Which team holds record for most threes made in NBA Finals game? Spurs on verge of history vs. Knicks
Which team holds record for most threes made in NBA Finals game? Spurs on verge of history vs. Knicks originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The San Antonio Spurs don’t want to go back home with a 3-1 NBA Finals deficit, and it’s showing in their play thus far.The Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs dominated the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden during the first half of their Game 4 clash, entering the break with a commanding 76-49 lead. It’s safe to say a three-point barrage helped San Antonio take control of the game in the first 24 minutes. San Antonio connected on 14 of their 26 three-point jumpers (54%), making it near impossible for New York to keep pace with the five-time NBA champions. Given that the Spurs are on pace to convert 28 triples on Wednesday night, it feels appropriate to raise the question: Which team holds the record for the most threes in an NBA Finals contest? To answer that question, we’d have to go back in time a little, specifically to the 2017 NBA Finals matchup vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. Although Golden State ultimately bested Cleveland in five games to win their first title in the Kevin Durant era, the Cavaliers had their way with Stephen Curry and company in Game 4. Cleveland notched 24 threes in their much-needed 137-116 victory over Golden State, which is still an NBA record to this day. With the way the Spurs are shooting the ball, though, that could change by the end of the night.More NBA news:Rockets predicted to swap ex-Lakers disgruntled forward for $285 million Celtics starLakers rumor is good news for Luka Doncic, bad news for LeBron JamesLakers predicted to cut ties with Dalton Knecht, acquire $175 million two-time MVP

TORONTO (AP) — Alec Bohm hit a three-run home run, Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper also went deep, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-4 on Wednesday night.Jesús Luzardo (5-4) allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings and Jhoan Duran finished for his 17th save in 18 chances as the Phillies won for the seventh time in nine games.Phillies outfielder Adolis García left in the seventh after making consecutive throws to home plate on sacrifice flies. Steward Berroa came on for García, who was diagnosed with a pulled muscle in his shoulder.Bohm and Harper both homered off Max Scherzer (1-4), who allowed five runs and five hits in 3 1/3 innings. Bohm’s homer was his eighth and Harper’s solo shot was his 15th.Schwarber greeted Mason Fluharty with a two-run homer, his aseball-leading 24th.Scherzer reached 3,500 career strikeouts when he caught Schwarber looking at an 86 mph change-up to begin the game. Scherzer walked three and struck out four in 3 1/3 innings, pushing his career total to 3,503. He allowed five runs and five hits. The three-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star is the 11th pitcher in big league history with 3,500 strikeouts. Poor Start From Scherzer, Jays Lose
Jun 10, 2026; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter George Springer #4 slides into home plate against Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto #10 during the seventh inning at Rogers Centre. Mandatory Credit: Kevin Sousa-Imagn Images | Kevin Sousa-Imagn Images Phillies 7 Blue Jays 4That was bad in a lot of ways. Might as well get the congratulations out of the way first, Max Scherzer got his 3500th strikeout, just the 11th pitcher to get to that number. He’s at 3503 now. Number 10 in the list is Walter ‘Big Train’ Johnson at 3509. But I really don’t care if Max passes him. It very much appears that Max has aged out of being a useful MLB pitcher. Max threw 3.1 innings, allowed 5 hits (with 2 home runs ), 5 earned, 3 walks with the 4 strikeouts. When Shane is ready to come back, I’d likely hand Max his gold watch. And the offense did very little. There are a couple of moments I’d like to mention. In the third inning, with two out, George Springer walked on five pitches (it could have been four, he swung at one off the plate) and then Vladimir Guerrero walked on four pitches. Next up Ernie Clement, who, one would imagine, would have seen the two at bats before him and thought ‘maybe I should take a strike’. Nope swung at the first pitch, that was outside and almost bounced. And he swung at the second pitch, but it was a strike. And then he swung at the third pitch, which was a little further outside than the first. I know that Ernie is like that (though he did walk later in the game), but we were down by four. I mean, I can see going up and thinking ‘I’m likely to get a first pitch fastball down the middle’ and then sit on that, cause the pitcher doesn’t want to walk the bases loaded. But anything else, he should have kept the bat on his shoulder. Sorry Ernie, you are having a great year, but that could have been our chance to get in the game. And in the fifth, we had runners on first and second (Myles Straw and Nathan Lukes hit singles) with one out. A pitch was bounced, Straw got a bit of a jump off second, but the ball bounced off the catcher and up the third base line. Straw saw he’d be out and went back to second, but Lukes saw Straw take the couple of steps and headed to second. He didn’t see Straw retreat and Lukes was an easy out, ending the inning. You gotta be watching the guy ahead of you. We did get some runs:One in the sixth: With one out, Clement (now he walks) and Kazuma Okamoto walked. Yohendrick Piñango, in a tough spot against a lefty, struck out. But Brandon Valenzuela singled. Clement ran through the stop sign at third and scored. If he had been thrown out, I’d have benched him. We were down six and would have had the bases loaded. Unfortunately Andrés Giménez flied out to end the inning.Three in the seventh: Phillies reliever Chase Shugart had all sorts of trouble with the strike zone. Straw singled. Lukes (on four pitches) walked. Springer (on four pitches) walked. Vlad (on five pitches, one right dead center) walked in a run. Ernie Clement, who had the bad at bat earlier, took a strike and then hit a deep fly to the opposite field, unfortunately caught at the wall, for a sac fly. Okamoto hit another sac fly (Springer was just safe). Piñango ground out to end the inning. In total, we had eight hits and seven walks. Straw had 3 hits. Vlad and Springer each had a hit and two walk. . Lukes a hit and a walk. Piñango and Charles McAdoo were the only starters not to reach base. With Scherzer coming out early, we used a bunch of relievers, thankfully tomorrow is an off day.Mason Fluharty got the last two outs of the fourth, but gave up another run.Tommy Nance pitched the fifth, giving up just a hit.Jeff Hoffman pitched the sixth, with just a walk and a strikeout.Braydon Fisher started the seventh, but gave up a couple of hits, a walk and run, while getting just one out.Spencer Miles finished the seventh and pitched the eighth, without giving up a baserunner, with 2 strikeouts. Tyler Rogers pitched the ninth. He made a couple of nice defensive plays. On a comebacker he looked the runner at second back to the bag and then threw to first and, on the last out, it was a roller down the first base line, and Jay of the Day: No one, the high mark was Springer (0.05).The Other Award: Max (-0.24) and Clement (-0.08).Tomorrow is an off-day. I can use it.

Royals' Seth Lugo leaves game after taking line drive to the head
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo was hit in the head by a 106.6 mph line drive from Texas Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo and left Wednesday night's game. In the fourth inning, Lugo threw a full-count changeup that Nimmo hit up the middle before it deflected off the right-hander's forehead. Lugo immediately dropped, but was able to get up without assistance and spoke to teammates and the Royals' training staff as he walked off the field. Nimmo, who was teammates with Lugo for seven years on the New York Mets, called time once he reached first base to run to the mound and check on him. The Royals posted on social media, “Seth Lugo is doing well after exiting tonight’s game and will undergo the appropriate protocol and testing.”Lugo threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed one run on 44 pitches. Lugo was replaced by Mason Black. ___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Luck may have turned 3 Cowboys misses into good offseason outcomes
The Dallas Cowboys have had a busy offseason, adding pieces to a team that missed the playoffs in the last two years. Their biggest additions were trading for pass rusher Rashan Gary and signing safety Jalen Thompson to the biggest free-agent deal the team has done in 14 years. And while both of those moves are solid hits in their own right, it’s the three misses for the Cowboys this offseason that could most work out in the team’s favor. It’s no secret Dallas coveted a top edge rusher, making a hard push to land Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby. Their best offer of the 12th pick overall, a second-round selection in 2027 and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa wasn’t enough to get the trade done. Crosby was shipped to the Baltimore Ravens, a trade that was eventually rescinded, sending him back to the Raiders. After failing to deal for Crosby, the Cowboys turned their attention to Gary, whom they acquired for a much lower cost of a fourth-round pick. Gary isn't anywhere near the same class of pass rusher as Crosby, but he also came with a reduced salary after the team reworked his contract. In addition to Gary, the Cowboys used the 12th pick overall (officially the 11th selection) on one of the best players in the draft in Caleb Downs. The defensive chess piece is a perfect fit for Christian Parker’s defense and was a consensus top-5 talent who fell outside the top 10.The Cowboys could’ve had Crosby, instead they came away with Gary and Downs, while keeping a premium pick in next year’s draft, which is considered an elite class. Gary is younger and cheaper than Crosby, and Downs is a 21-year-old defensive player the team can build around. It feels, for now, like the Cowboys won the situation, one that could grow if the team revisits trading for Crosby during the season. The team also tried in free agency to land a high-priced linebacker, but struck out. The Cowboys wanted to sign LB Nakobe Dean, who played under Parker with the Philadelphia Eagles, to be one of the rebuilding centerpieces. It didn’t work; despite being offered a similar contract by Dallas, Dean chose to sign with the Raiders over a “gut feeling.”Just talked with someone close to the situation and apparently Dallas was actually very competitive in the Nakobe Dean market. He was one of their 5 zooms allowed. I’m told their offer was similar to the Raiders but ultimately he went with his gut feeling but was told he could…— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) March 9, 2026Former Green Bay Packer Quay Walker was another LB the Cowboys tried to bring in, but he also signed with the Raiders. The deals for Dean and Walker were for three years, at $36 million and $40.5 million, respectively. Missing out on the duo left the LB market bare and forced the team to look elsewhere for help.It wasn’t until the draft where the Cowboys found an answer. The team made their second offseason trade with the San Francisco 49ers when they sent a fifth-round selection in exchange for LB Dee Winters. The four-year veteran LB has started 27 games over the past two seasons and appears to be an ascending player coming off a career best 2025 campaign. The early reviews about Winters have been positive, giving him an edge as one of the starting LBs. Dallas then supplemented the position when they drafted Jaishawn Barham in the third round of the draft. Barham offers upside as a pass rusher, as well as a thumper against the run. Getting Winters for Day 3 pick, paying him just over $3.6 million this season and drafting Barham feels like another win for the Cowboys. The duo might not have been in the plans if the team were able to sign Dean or Walker in free agency.Sometimes not getting what you want works out. For the Cowboys, missing out on Crosby, Dean and Walker was disappointing at the time, but it could end up being the best thing for the team. You can chat with or follow Ben on twitter @BenTalksCowboys and be sure to follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans! First place feels pretty good: White Sox edge Braves, 2-1
Need a big game? Davis Martin has become the White Sox's answer. | (Michael Hirschuber/Getty Images) Well, look who’s sitting atop the American League Central.Behind six gritty innings from Davis Martin, another electric performance from Braden Montgomery, and a lockdown bullpen, the White Sox knocked off the mighty Braves. The win pushed the Sox into first place, and if you’re keeping score at home, that’s consecutive nights of making one of baseball’s best teams look decidedly mortal.Martin came out firing. The righthander needed just 13 pitches to carve through the first inning, striking out two along the way. Atlanta kept threatening throughout the evening, but every time the Braves put runners aboard, Martin found another escape hatch. The second inning was his biggest tightrope act. Mauricio Dubón singled, Austin Riley wore a pitch, and Mike Yastrzemski’s infield hit loaded the bases with one out. Martin responded by punching out Jorge Mateo and getting Austin Wynns to line out harmlessly. The Braves put runners at the corners in the third and got a two-out double from Mateo in the fourth, but Martin kept slamming the door. By the time he finished six scoreless innings, he’d scattered six hits, struck out six, and generated 13 whiffs while repeatedly winning the biggest moments of the game. Unfortunately, the Sox were denied a shutout line thanks to some seventh-inning misfortune. The South Side offense finally broke through against old friend Chris Sale in the fourth. Montgomery continued his remarkable first week in the majors by leading off the inning with a double into left. Derek Hill followed with a sharp RBI single to center, bringing home the rookie and giving the Sox a 1-0 lead. The Sox weren’t finished. Jacob Gonzalez moved Hill to third with a ground out, and Luisangel Acuña cashed him in on a ground ball that made it 2-0.That would be all Chicago could squeeze out of the veteran southpaw, who was vintage Chris Sale for much of the night. The former White Sox ace struck out six and repeatedly escaped trouble despite Chicago forcing him to work. The Good Guys managed just one hit in 10 opportunities with runners in scoring position, but on this night, two runs proved enough.Sean Newcomb inherited the lead in the seventh and immediately ran into trouble when Mateo singled to open the frame. After two outs, a Miguel Vargas fielding error down the line allowed Mateo to score, cutting the lead to 2-1 and saddling Newcomb with the lone run, albeit unearned, against the pitching staff. The Sox had a golden opportunity to answer in the bottom half. Acuña singled and advanced all the way to second after an error, but a bizarre sequence followed: Tristan Peters’ bunt attempt popped out, and a successful challenge overturned an out call on Acuña’s steal of third. But Chase Meidroth’s grounder resulted in Acuña being tagged out at home, and Andrew Benintendi struck out to end the threat. No matter.Seranthony Domínguez handled the eighth with a clean 1-2-3 inning, and Bryan Hudson took the ball for the ninth.Hudson retired Mateo, walked pinch-hitter Eli White, then got Michael Harris II to pop out. One final out remained. Ozzie Albies lifted a pop-up into shallow right-center, where Meidroth ranged out and made the grab to seal it.Ballgame.The White Sox are in first place. And Braden Montgomery? The kid followed up his storybook debut by collecting two more doubles and scoring a run. Safe to say the curtain call wasn’t a one-night thing.First place. Against the Braves. Dodgers Calling Up Minor Leaguer Amid Will Smith IL Stint
The Los Angeles Dodgers have made their choice on who will replace Will Smith, electing to have minor league catcher Chuckie Robinson take over his spot on the team. Smith has been suffering from “stiffness” in his neck, which has kept him on the bench over the last four games, two against the Los Angeles Angels and two against the Pittsburgh Pirates. View this post on InstagramA post shared by Dodgers Nation (@dodgersnation)The injury was originally supposed to be nothing serious, with manager Dave Roberts playing it down and chalking it up to some poor sleep or minor discomfort. However, the pain lingered long enough for Smith to avoid playing, making his discomfort worse. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn ImagesIn his absence, Dalton Rushing has started four straight games, quite a toll for a player even as young as Rushing.Catching is a tiring position that requires players to stay on their knees for extended periods, so much so that teams often rotate catchers. With Smith unavailable, Rushing has held the position down, barring any kind of emergency, doing a great job at the plate and behind it, but the Dodgers now need someone else to take some of the load. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesAfter speaking with the team following a brutal 9-8 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday, manager Dave Roberts announced that Smith will be headed to the injured list, retroactive to Monday, and that he will be eligible to return on June 19th. In his place comes Chuckie Robinson, a longtime minor leaguer who played in one game for the Dodgers back in 2025. He signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers this year and has played 21 games with Oklahoma City. The Dodgers are calling up minor league catcher Chuckie Robinson to the active roster, with Will Smith heading to the IL, per Dave Roberts.Robinson is hitting .260/.321/.442 down in Triple A.Rushing will start on Thursday, but Robinson will give him some rest on Friday. pic.twitter.com/p8Mjwd4Zaw— Nelson Espinal (@nelson__espinal) June 11, 2026Robinson is someone that the Dodgers trust to do a serviceable job behind the plate and carries a degree of reliability. His bat has not been great in the majors, hitting just .131 in 130 at-bats, but the defensive work should hold down the fort.Neck injuries can be tricky to test and heal, but Smith should likely only need the minimum amount of time if it is truly just discomfort rather than something underlying.

Tyler Callihan, ex-Reds OF with Pirates, hits first MLB HR off Ohtani
Suffice it to say Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Tyler Callihan's first MLB home run was a memorable one.Callihan, who played in four games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2025 before suffering a broken forearm, hit a 427-foot home run out of PNC Park and into the river off of Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani in the fourth inning of the Pirates' 9-8 win.Callihan added a three-run homer in the eighth inning, and walked twice.Callihan suffered a broken left forearm while trying to make a catch May 5 of last season in the left-field corner of the Reds' series opener against the Braves in Atlanta.Callihan, drafted by the Reds in the third round of the 2019 draft, was traded in March to Pittsburgh for pitcher Kyle Nicolas.Last week, the Baltimore Orioles acquired Nicolas from the Reds for cash considerations. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Tyler Callihan, ex-Reds OF with Pirates, hits first MLB HR off Ohtani

49ers trade acquisition ready to ‘bury the dead’ in SF
Osa Odighizuwa is leaving Dallas behind for good. The San Francisco 49ersacquired the defensive lineman from the Cowboys on March 11 in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick to fortify the team's beleaguered front four. It was an abrupt end his time in Dallas, and Odighizuwa acknowledged the trade stung, but he isn't harping on the past."There's definitely a lot of love [with the Cowboys] that I still have," Odighizuwa said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. "So it's definitely one of those that hurt. It's the business, something I'd never experienced before, but it kind of is what it is. Gotta always say this: bury the dead, feed the living. What happened happened. I can only do the best with what I have, be where my feet are and make the most of the opportunity I have in front of me."The 49ers are betting Odighizuwa, 32, has plenty left to give after being drafted in the third round in 2021. In five seasons with Dallas, he appeared in 84 games and started 76, recording 216 tackles, 81 quarterback hits and 17 sacks to go along with two forced fumbles. Now he steps into a starting role in San Francisco, where he is expected to line up at defensive tackle alongside Alfred Collins. C.J. West and 2026 rookie Gracen Halton are projected as the backups behind them. For a 49ers defense looking to reestablish itself as one of the league's most disruptive front fours, adding a proven interior pass rusher with Odighizuwa's track record fills a real need. His ability to generate quarterback hits — 81 in his career — speaks to his consistency as a disruptive force even when sacks don't follow. He may have left Dallas under difficult circumstances, but Odighizuwa sounds like someone who has already moved on mentally. This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: 49ers DT Osa Odighizuwa ready to ‘bury the dead’ after trade

How this BYU product went from late-round draftee to one of Cleveland’s most valuable players
Cleveland Guardians' Daniel Schneemann, right, slides into home as Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto, left, waits for the ball during game, Sunday, May 24, 2026, in Philadelphia. | Chris Szagola, Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas — Daniel Schneemann has already played five different positions this season for the Cleveland Guardians. However, his defensive versatility is far from new, but Schneemann, 29, has also delivered impeccable defense no matter where the BYU product has played, with just one error in 135 total chances as of June 7.Guardians manager Stephen Vogt knows exactly how valuable the ex-Cougar has been to his team since making his big-league debut in June 2024. “He plays Gold Glove-level defense at four, five positions and gives you a quality at-bat. Obviously, his first month of the year was outstanding, had a tough May, but him driving the ball, we’re starting to see some signs of that,” Vogt said. “But Daniel Schneemann’s been one of the most valuable players for us at least since he’s been up with us. Not many people in the league, if any, can do what he does as far as playing Gold Glove-level defense (at so many positions).”So far this season, he’s played second base, shortstop, third base, center field and right field. In three games, he’s played multiple positions, which most recently happened on June 7 at Texas when he started the afternoon at third before a late-game switch to short.“That (my versatility) is the way I get into the lineup. I’ve really embraced it and my goal is just to help the team win any way I can,” Schneemann said. “If I’m not swinging (it well) at the plate, hopefully I can move around, play some good defense, and help the team win that way.”BYU daysCougar fans remember his three seasons in Provo (2016-18), where he, his wife and daughters reside in the offseason. The other ex-Cougar currently in the big leagues, A’s reliever Justin Sterner, is his offseason workout partner, even if they have yet to face each other in a big-league game, something they both hope happens in the future. “Yeah, it’s cool just seeing a guy from BYU make it. There’s not a lot of us,” Schneemann said. “There’s just something we can relate to and it’s grinding out of BYU. It’s cool just being competitors against each other. Being on the same big-league field is really cool.” BYU's Daniel Schneemann runs the bases. He went 3-for-5 on opening day. | Jaren Wilkey, BYU And speaking of standout Cougars, he admits he doesn’t watch a ton of NBA basketball but is looking forward to seeing ex-BYU superstar AJ Dybantsa be selected early — quite possibly No. 1 overall — in the 2026 NBA draft in late June. “It’s always cool seeing players from the school that you went to thrive at the professional level. He’s not a professional yet, but I am sure wherever he gets drafted and whenever it is, it’s always going to be cool just seeing someone from your school succeed,” he said. One aspect of being a BYU product, which never gets old, is seeing Cougar fans all over the country offer him a kind word, wanting an autograph or to take a photo. “Yeah, there’s BYU fans all over the country. Wherever we’re at, I usually hear a couple of ‘Go BYU,’ ‘Go Cougs.’ It’s cool and something I feel that is going to follow me my whole career,” Schneemann said. Cleveland cultureIn 2018, he was a 33rd-round pick of the Guardians. Now in his third season with Cleveland, playing for Vogt, in his third season as manager, has been a huge blessing because of the incredible culture which Vogt built with the Guardians. “I haven’t been in other clubhouses before, but that’s just one of the things I feel like separates us from other teams. And I really think it goes a long way in helping us win games when everyone’s pulling for each other and you’re more worried about the team’s success than individual,” Schneemann said. “I think that just helps not just yourself but just helps the team win games. Vogt’s setting the tone and all of us following, when you’re not going to be one of the top spenders in the league, you got to be good at things like that.” Cleveland Guardians outfielders Angel Martínez, left, Chase DeLauter, center, and Daniel Schneemann, right, celebrate after the Guardians defeated the Boston Red Sox in a game in Cleveland, Friday, May 29, 2026. | Sue Ogrocki, Associated Press Not only has “Schnee,” as he is called in Guardians circles, played for the same manager all three seasons as a big-leaguer, he’s also in Year 2 of working with Grant Fink, a former hitting coach and roving instructor in Cleveland’s organization who he’d previously worked with in the minors and is now in his second season as the big-league hitting coach.“Yeah, I’ve known him a long time. He was my hitting coach in, I think it was 2021 at (Low Single-A) Lake County, so I’ve had a really good relationship and he’s helped me grow as a hitter my whole career,” Schneemann said. “So, it’s just cool (having him here with the Guardians now). It’s cool just having someone that I already had a relationship join the team. He’s helped me a ton in my career, so I’m glad he’s here.”‘My own worst critic’Schneemann admits he is his own worst critic when it comes to evaluating his own performance and how his career has gone to date. But judging from what his manager and teammates say about him, he is clearly in a good spot with the Guardians. “Yeah, feel good about it (my career thus far). I’m just trying to get better every single day at the plate and continue to get better moving around the diamond,” he said. “There’s always areas of improvement. Honestly, I always feel like I should be doing better. I would definitely say (that I’m my own worst critic). Obviously, I love being here on this team, being in this clubhouse and in the major leagues, but I always want to continue to get better. That’s my goal.” Cleveland Guardians center fielder Daniel Schneemann catches a fly ball hit for an out by Washington Nationals' Curtis Mead during game in Cleveland, Tuesday, May 26, 2026. | Sue Ogrocki. Dallas Goedert explains decision to remain with Philadelphia Eagles in free agency
Dallas Goedert explains decision to remain with Philadelphia Eagles in free agency originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. There was some speculation that the Philadelphia Eagles would lose veteran tight end Dallas Goedert in free agency over the offseason. Ultimately though, Goedert ended up re-upping with the Eagles for another season. In his first media availability signing re-signing with the Eagles, Goedert detailed the decision. While he did have other suitors, none of the options were more appealing for Goedert than continuing his career in Philadelphia. "I was able to test for agency a little bit. Had opportunities to go elsewhere. Nothing was a better opportunity than I thought I could have here," Goedert said."Being able to play in the same place for nine years is special. It would have had to be something really drastic to have me try to sign somewhere else."This story will be updated. LA28’s Defining Moment Fast Approaching Says IOC Executive Director Christophe Dubi
(This story is based on a Forbes exclusive interview with Christophe Dubi June 4, 2026 in Los Angeles, California. All quotes are taken directly from a transcript of the interview.)(Left) Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi and Tim Genske June 4, 2026 Los Angeles, California(Photo courtesy of Tim Genske)As Los Angeles prepares to host the world in 2028, the International Olympic Committee's top Games executive sees a city uniquely positioned to turn the Olympics into the ultimate global gathering. The Final CountdownWith just over two years remaining until the Opening Ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games, the countdown has entered a new phase. For Christophe Dubi, the Executive Director of the International Olympic Committee, the next six months represent the point where planning gives way to execution. It is the moment when Los Angeles moves from vision to reality.Executive Director of the Olympic Games Christophe Dubi speaks during a LA28 and International Olympic Committee news conference on preparations for the 2028 Games at the JW Marriott L.A. Live in Los Angeles on June 4, 2026. (Photo by Patrick T. Fallon / AFP via Getty Images)AFP via Getty Images"The steep phase begins in the next six months," Dubi said during an interview with Forbes following meetings between the IOC and LA28 leadership in downtown Los Angeles.Olympic organizers often describe Games preparation as following an S-curve: years of careful planning followed by a sharp acceleration of activity as the event approaches. According to Dubi, LA28 is now approaching the most demanding segment of that curve. Venue agreements will be finalized. Major contracts will be signed. Staffing levels will rise dramatically. Procurement efforts will intensify. By the final six months before the Games, approximately $1 billion worth of temporary infrastructure and venue overlay will need to be installed across Southern California.Los Angeles, CA - June 4: Details of one of the olympics logos on display during a press conference at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)Los Angeles Times via Getty Images"The final two years are where costs and activity rise exponentially," Dubi explained. For LA28, the challenge is amplified by scale. Spread across some of the most iconic venues in Southern California, the Games will be larger and more complex than any Olympic event before them. That reality, Dubi believes, makes leadership and institutional experience more valuable than ever."The most important thing is having the right team in place," he said.Former Olympic swimmer and Chief Athlete Officer for LA2028 Janet Evans speaks during a ceremonial lighting of the LA28 Olympic cauldron at the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles on January 13, 2026, ahead of the launch of ticket registration for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. (Photo by Frederic J. Brown / AFP via Getty Images)AFP via Getty ImagesThe Olympic Games As Only Los Angeles Can Deliver ThemEvery Olympic host city seeks to define itself through a unique identity. The Paris 2024 Games showcased culture and history through unforgettable imagery, including beach volleyball beneath the Eiffel Tower and an Opening Ceremony staged along the Seine River. The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics embraced Italy's geography, connecting alpine communities and urban centers through a uniquely distributed Games concept. What, then, will define Los Angeles? According to Dubi, LA's greatest asset is not a single venue or landmark. It is the city's ability to attract the world."Los Angeles is a city where people come to reinvent themselves and dream bigger," he said.Long Beach, CA - April 01: 2028 An aerial view of Alamitos Beach Stadium where LA28 Summer Olympic Games beach volleyball will take place Wednesday, April 1, 2026. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images)Los Angeles Times via Getty ImagesUnlike Paris, which leveraged centuries of architectural grandeur, Los Angeles offers something different: a convergence of sport, entertainment, business, politics and popular culture unlike anywhere else on earth. Olympic athletes will share the stage with movie stars. Heads of state will mingle alongside technology innovators, musicians, entrepreneurs and global influencers. The result, Dubi predicts, will create a level of energy and visibility that only Los Angeles can generate."If you have a fear of missing out, LA28 will be the place to be," he said with a smile.MILAN, ITALY - FEBRUARY 03: (L-R) Chairman of LA28 Casey Wasserman and IOC member Gene Sykes look on as CEO of LA28 Reynold Hoover speaks during the IOC Session at the Main Media Centre MPC at Allianz MiCo on February 03, 2026 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by Andreas Rentz/Getty Images)Getty ImagesIn many ways, Dubi's assessment captures a broader reality facing the Olympic Movement. The Games are no longer simply a sporting event. They are increasingly a global cultural gathering where sport, media, entertainment and digital storytelling intersect. And no city understands that intersection better than Los Angeles.UNSPECIFIED: (EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE) In this image released on August 11, Snoop Dogg performs at the LA28 Olympic Games Handover Celebration. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for LA28)Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for LA28Lessons From ItalyBefore looking ahead to LA28, Dubi spent much of the past year focused on delivering the Milano Cortina Winter Games. His biggest takeaway from Italy was not technological innovation or operational efficiency. It was authenticity."The Games felt authentically Italian," he said.MILAN, ITALY - FEBRUARY 06: A general view of a parade of performers dressed as symbols of Italian imagination and creativity during the opening ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics at San Siro Stadium on February 06, 2026 in Milan, Italy. (Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty Images)Getty ImagesFrom the sophistication of Milan to the mountain culture of Livigno and Cortina d'Ampezzo, each host region expressed its own character while remaining connected to a larger Olympic narrative. For Dubi, that lesson has direct relevance for Los Angeles. While LA28 will be centered within one metropolitan region, it will unfold across distinctly different communities. Long Beach possesses a coastal identity. Carson reflects Southern California's sporting culture. Downtown Los Angeles brings urban energy and international connectivity. The San Gabriel Valley contributes yet another layer to the city's personality. Rather than creating a uniform Olympic experience, Dubi believes each community should showcase what makes it unique."Long Beach, Carson, Downtown LA and the Valley must each express their own character," he said.Sunrise Relected in the Buildings of Downtown Los Angeles, California, USA. (Photo by Sam Lafoca/Construction Photography/Avalon/Getty Images)Getty ImagesThat approach aligns with a broader trend in Olympic planning, one that emphasizes local identity over standardized presentation. The Athlete Experience Still Comes FirstDespite praising Milano Cortina's success, Dubi remains focused on areas that require improvement. One issue stood out. Some athletes competing in remote locations felt disconnected from the larger Olympic experience. The geographical spread that helped showcase Italy's diversity also created moments of isolation for competitors who were far removed from celebration venues and fellow athletes."We did a good job keeping athletes at the center," Dubi said. "However, some athletes still felt isolated."TOPSHOT - USA's Hunter Wonders (C) parades with members of his delegation during the closing ceremony of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games at the Verona Arena in Verona, northern Italy, on February 22, 2026. (Photo by Stefano RELLANDINI / AFP via Getty Images)AFP via Getty ImagesThe IOC is already applying those lessons to future Games planning. For the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympics, organizers are exploring concepts that would connect athletes across multiple locations, including synchronized medal celebrations designed to create a stronger sense of unity. The goal is simple: regardless of where athletes compete, they should feel part of one Olympic community. Why Pau Gasol Earned Athletes' TrustAmong the Olympic Movement's most influential voices today is former NBA champion and Spanish basketball legend Pau Gasol. Dubi speaks about Gasol with obvious admiration."People gravitate to him everywhere he goes," he said.Inglewood, CA - February 14: Spike Lee, left, talks with Pau Gasol , former Los Angeles Lakers during NBA All-Star Saturday at Intuit Dome in Inglewood on Saturday, February 14, 2026. (Photo by Keith Birmingham/MediaNews Group/Pasadena Star-News via Getty Images)MediaNews Group via Getty ImagesWhat impresses Dubi most, however, is not Gasol's fame but his leadership style. Thoughtful. Respectful. Curious. Collaborative. Dubi also emphasized an important distinction often overlooked by observers: Gasol was not appointed by the IOC hierarchy. Instead, he was elected by fellow athletes and subsequently chosen by his commission colleagues to serve as chair."The athletes made an excellent choice," Dubi said.As athlete representation continues to expand within Olympic governance, Gasol's role reflects the growing influence competitors hold in shaping the future of the Games. The Challenge That Matters MostWhen asked what keeps him awake at night, Dubi did not mention venue construction, transportation planning or security. Operational problems, he argued, can be solved. His greatest concern is preserving the Olympic Games' relevance."Importance and relevance," he said.Importance means ensuring the Games remain valuable enough that the world continues finding ways to stage them, even during periods of extraordinary disruption. The successful delivery of the Tokyo Olympics amid a global pandemic serves as a powerful example.TOKYO, JAPAN - JULY 23: Flag bearers Yui Susaki and Rui Hachimura of Team Japan lead their team out during the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Olympic Stadium on July 23, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. (Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty Images)Getty ImagesRelevance is a different challenge. It means remaining meaningful to future generations, athletes, communities, broadcasters, sponsors and (increasingly) digital audiences. That evolution extends directly into media strategy. Traditional broadcasters, journalists, influencers and content creators all want access to the Games. Managing those competing demands while preserving value for rights holders is becoming one of the IOC's most delicate balancing acts. Yet Dubi views that tension as a positive sign."When demand exceeds supply, that's healthy," he said.It signals that the Olympic product remains compelling in an increasingly fragmented media landscape.Mission Accomplished—But Never FinishedReflecting on Milano Cortina, Dubi ultimately delivered a simple verdict: The Games succeeded. Not perfectly. Not without lessons. But successfully. Athletes competed on the world's biggest stage. Communities embraced the event. Italian culture was showcased globally.LIVIGNO, ITALY - JANUARY 31: The olympic rings are seen prior to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on January 31, 2026 in Livigno, Italy. (Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images)Getty ImagesStill, perfection remains elusive.Dubi wants athletes to feel more connected. He wants venues completed earlier. He wants fewer last-minute questions about readiness and operations. Those lessons are already informing preparations for LA28. As Los Angeles enters the steepest section of the Olympic delivery curve, the task ahead is enormous. Yet Dubi remains convinced the city possesses something no other Olympic host can replicate. For two weeks in the summer of 2028, the world will gather in one place. And if Dubi is right, missing out on the LA28 Games will simply not be an option. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Oklahoma Sooners get great news from All-American
The Oklahoma Sooners lost Kasidi Pickering to the transfer portal on Monday, but there's been plenty of good news coming Oklahoma's way in the first week of the portal. Earlier in the week, Kai Minor, Allyssa Parker, and Miali Guachino signaled their return on Instagram. Now another Sooners star looks like she'll be returning for 2026-2027 as well.According to an Instagram post, star shortstop Gabbie Garcia is expected to return to OU in 2027. Garcia said, "See you in August," then quoted hip-hop artist J. Cole: "There's beauty in the struggle." She then added, "The highs are great, but the growth happens in the grind. Grateful for it all."Garcia followed up a freshman season in which she led the Sooners with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs to set new career highs as a sophomore with 22 home runs and 74 RBIs, finishing second on the team in both categories. Garcia earned All-SEC honors and All-SEC defensive team honors in 2026 for her work at shortstop. She also earned All-American honors from Softball America and the NFCA. Garcia's first two seasons might have ended earlier than anyone expected for the Oklahoma Sooners, but she's done her part to help the Sooners win back-to-back regular season SEC titles and put together a pair of great seasons in Norman. Now it looks like Oklahoma will have one of its stars back, looking to make a run in 2027. Tigers all wet in post-rain delay loss
Jun 10, 2026; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Detroit Tigers shortstop Zack Short (15) turns a double play against the Minnesota Twins in the seventh inning at Comerica Park. Mandatory Credit: Lon Horwedel-Imagn Images | Lon Horwedel-Imagn Images The Tigers were unable to pull off another win against the Twins as they lost game two 6-4. Today’s game started with some questions. After a brief delay due to potential impending weather, it was determined the game should go ahead and start. The starters for the game were slated to be Framber Valdez for the Tigers and Mike Paredes as the start of a bullpen day for the Twins. The Tigers were hoping to ride their win from Tuesday, but what they weren’t anticipating was bringing the weather delay from Tuesday’s game with them as well. Things got started in the first. Byron Buxton got a one-out walk, but then Brooks Lee grounded into a double play, and even as the inning was winding down the Jumbotron was advising fans to seek shelter immediately. As soon as Framber had gone through the side, the tarp was out on the field and the game was in a delay. An hour later, the game was back on and the Tigers went 1-2-3 in the home half.Despite his lengthy downtime, Valdez was back out for the second, and with two outs, he gave up a home run to Royce Lewis. He got the final out of the inning, but the Twins were on the board first. Spencer Torkelson took a two-out walk in the home half, but he was the only baserunner for the inning and the Tigers weren’t able to bring him home. Ryan Kreidler got a leadoff walk in the top of the third. Alex Jackson singled behind him. Both runners advanced a bag on a groundout from Austin Martin. Byron Buxton then hit into a fielder’s choice, where Kreidler was tagged out sliding into home. Props to Kreidler, who slammed into Dillon Dingler pretty hard at the plate and immediately checked on him as soon as he got to his feet. You don’t see that a lot in on-field play. Buxton stole second, then Brooks Lee walked. Thankfully after a mound visit, Valdez got back in the zone and got the final out of the inning. In the home half, Kevin McGonigle took a two-out walk, then Gleyber Torres hit a ball deep into the outfield that Byron Buxton narrowly missed catching on a diving play. It was an RBI double, bringing McGonigle home to tie up the game. Kerry Carpenter was hit by a pitch, taking a free walk, but no additional runs scored. tied! pic.twitter.com/JoJDybL2rf— Detroit Tigers (@tigers) June 11, 2026The Twins managed one baserunner in the fourth with Luke Keaschall getting a two-out single, but they weren’t able to bring him home. In the bottom of the inning the Twins dipped into their bullpen for Taylor Rogers and he got three outs in a row. Alex Jackson was hit by a pitch to start the fifth. Then Austin Martin was hit by a pitch. This was followed by Byron Buxton hitting a three-run homer. So pretty much the worst-case scenario to start the inning. Brooks Lee singled, but then a double play and a pop-out ended the inning. The damage was done, though, and the Twins were up 5-1. Andrew Morris was the next pitcher in for the Twins’ bullpen day gave up a leadoff single to Zach McKinstry, with an assist from Keaschall who is new to playing first and couldn’t keep his foot on the bag. With one out, Morris was called for a balk, putting McKinstry into scoring position. McGonigle worked a walk. Torres then singled, loading up the bases. A Carpenter single brought two runs in. Two outs followed to end the inning, but the Tigers were now within one. right back in it! pic.twitter.com/XVQhhFRldy— Detroit Tigers (@tigers) June 11, 2026Brenan Hanifee was in from the Tigers’ pen for the sixth. Valdez had clearly started to falter in the fifth, so this didn’t come as a surprise. His final line for the game was 5,0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR on 75 pitches. With two outs a pinch-hitting Kody Clemens doubled. Hanifee did get out of the jam, though. Travis Adams was the new Twins pitcher in the home half, and he got the Tigers out in order. Ty Madden replaced Hanifee and gave up a leadoff walk to Martin. Buxton then singled. A Brooks Lee groundout eliminated Buxton and moved Martin to third. That was it for Madden, after the second out, and he was replaced by Drew Sommers. A Josh Bell single scored Martin. Royce Lewis walked to load the bases, then a wild pitch allowed Lee to score. By the time S0mmers got the final out, the Twins were up 6-3. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, McGonigle got another walk. Torres then singled. Anthony Banda came in from the Twins’ pen and he got the final two outs of the inning. With one out in the eighth, S0mmers was replaced by Beau Brieske. A comebacker deflected off of Brieske, allowing Jackson to get safely to first for a single. Austin Martin then singled. A double play off the bat of Buxton was a huge lifesave for the Tigers, getting them out of the inning without any extra runs scored. Brieske owes Kevin McGonigle a big hug for getting that double play turned. Riley Greene took a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning. With a lot of effort from Buxton in the field, the Tigers were out of the inning with Greene left stranded. Brooks Lee got a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth, followed by a single to Orlando Arcia. Brieske got really lucky with a double play, followed by a flyout to end the inning. The Tigers were down to their last chance to make something happen. Yoendrys Gómez came in for the Twins and gave up a single to Wenceel Perez. With one out, Torres walked. Matt Vierling hit a deeeeep flyout to center that was snagged by Buxton. For a hot second it looked like it could be something but it died short of the wall. Dingler singled, bringing Perez home. Alas, Greene struck out to end the game. Better luck and less rain tomorrow, Tigers!Final: Twins 6, Tigers 4

Vlade Divac discusses and defends Kobe Bryant's legacy
In 1996, in order to clear salary cap space and nab Shaquille O'Neal in free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers traded Vlade Divac, who was then their starting center, to the Charlotte Hornets for the draft rights to Kobe Bryant. Bryant had just been taken with the No. 13 pick in the draft out of Lower Merion High School in the Philadelphia area, and no one knew just how transcendent a player he would become.Divac was initially reluctant to go to Charlotte, but he eventually relented. During an appearance on Byron Scott's "Fast Break" podcast, he briefly talked about Bryant's legacy and even said he's glad he was sent to Charlotte for the Hall of Famer (h/t Lakers Nation).“Greatness,” Divac responded when asked to describe Bryant in one word during his appearance on Byron Scott’s Fast Break. “What he did with his work ethic, with his talent, with his passion. Ready to sacrifice for the goal that he set for his life, it was amazing. I’m glad that I had the opportunity to play at least one year, my last year. And I’m glad that Jerry [West] traded me for him.”During his 20 seasons, all of which were spent with the Lakers, Bryant won five NBA championships, made 18 All-Star teams and 12 All-Defensive teams and he scored more career points than any other guard in league history. Yet various people continue to attack his resume and legacy, whether it is because of personal dislike or for other reasons.Divac said he has no idea why people would try to diminish Bryant's accomplishments.“I’m not in the social media that much so I didn’t see that,” Divac said. “I’m shocked that somebody would do that. Why? I have no idea. Usually what you cannot reach, you trash.“... It would anger me,” Divac continued. “I didn’t see that, that’s why I’m not [angry] but that’s ridiculous. If you see where he came from, what he achieved, what he went through. He’s my top-3 ever.”Bryant, of course, died along with his daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash in January 2020. But his legacy lives on, and he continues to be an inspiration for today's players, not just in the NBA but in other sports as well. That swap that exchanged Divac for Bryant back in the summer of 1996 could very well be the most lopsided trade in basketball history. While Divac was a good player throughout his 16 seasons in the league, Bryant helped resurrect Lakers mystique after a prolonged drought following Magic Johnson's first retirement in 1991.This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Vlade Divac discusses and defends Kobe Bryant's legacy

33-34 – Rangers survive bruising battle in KC, win 6-4 in 10
Jun 10, 2026; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Texas Rangers center fielder Evan Carter (32) catches a long fly ball against the Kansas City Royals during the third inning at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images | Denny Medley-Imagn Images The Texas Rangers scored six runs while the Kansas City Royals scored four runs in ten innings.Remember the second game of the season when the Rangers literally dropped the ball multiple times in Philadelphia and turned what looked like an easy victory into an extra innings game that they eventually did hold on to win? It might be difficult to recall because it was all the way back in March.I bring that game up because it was, remarkably, the only other time that the Rangers played extra innings this season before tonight’s game. But getting from entering the game adverse to free baseball to the final score was an adventure in and of itself, to say the least. Here’s just a smattering of the obscene things that happened in this one: Designated hitter Joc Pederson left the game after injuring himself drawing walk.Tonight’s Kansas City starting pitcher Seth Lugo was forced to leave tonight’s game after 3.1 innings because he took a 106 MPH comebacker directly off his forehead off the bat of former teammate Brandon Nimmo. The Rangers lost a replay on a play at the plate in a game that went to extras that the players involved (including Kansas City catcher Sal Perez) seemed pretty certain would go Texas’ way all because maybe there wasn’t a single camera angle that showed anything useful. The Royals scored a run apiece in two separate innings that materialized via hits that all came after there were two outs. The Rangers probably haven’t accomplished that twice all season. Both teams struggled with runners on base ultimately. The Rangers went 3-for-10 with RISP and left 14 runners on base, including several wasted bases loaded opportunities. The Royals, meanwhile, went 4-for-13 with RISP and left 13 on base. The teams combined to use 13 pitchers with five from Texas and a whopping eight from Kansas City after Lugo was forced to exit. The go-ahead run was scored when Elias Diaz doubled in Texas’ Manfred Man despite him only being in the game because tonight’s starting catcher Kyle Higashioka was lifted for a pinch runner. Texas’ insurance run scored via a bases loaded walk. The Royals then loaded the bases in their half of the tenth with zero outs but then borrowed a page from the Rangers and didn’t score.Anyway, like back on March 28, despite some hellish baseball the Rangers won. They’re now 2-0 in extra innings games.Player of the Game: Former Royal and No. 9 hitter Nicky Lopez doubled, singled in a run, drew a tenth inning walk, and was hit by a pitch to ignite another bases loaded opportunity in which the Rangers scored the tying run in the eighth.Up Next: The Rangers and Royals finish off this series in a matinee affair tomorrow afternoon with RHP Kumar Rocker set to pitch in the finale for Texas opposite RHP Michael Wacha for KC.Thursday’s finale matchup from Kauffman Stadium is scheduled for 1:10 pm CDT and you can catch it on the Rangers Sports Network.

Royals lose a wild one to the Rangers
Jun 10, 2026; Kansas City, Missouri, USA; Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo (67) drops to the mound after being hit by a line drive from Texas Rangers right fielder Brandon Nimmo (24), not pictured, during the fourth inning at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images | Denny Medley-Imagn Images 3 ties, 4 lead changes, 24 hits, 13 pitchers, and a partridge in a pear tree. This game had it all, except for a Royals win that is. Texas pulled out a 6-4 extra inning affair on a wild night of baseball. The first three innings only had three major events before the game really shifted. In the 2nd inning Jac Caglianone doubled to left field and then came home on a bloop single from Isaac Collins. There was also a fun double steal of Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnnie Pasquantino that got Witt a tie for the major league lead in stolen bases. Finally, there was an injury to Joc Pederson on ball 4. I do not know how to explain tweaking something on ball four, but he managed it and Jake Buger took over DHing duties later in the game. Then in the 4th inning the Royals plan for the day shifted rather drastically when Seth Lugo took a Brandon Nimmo 106.6 mph line drive off of his head. See video below. It was very scary in real time. View LinkSeth was obviously pulled and the bullpen was called on with one out in the third. Mason Black was first up. I think we should all give him some grace for having to warm up and jump in with no warning like that. He struggled for the first few batters. Wyatt Langford was first up and singled off of Bobby Witt’s glove while he leaped to try and snag it. That moved Nimmo to second as well. Then Eziquiel Duran was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Evan Carter was also walked to score the first run for Texas on the night. It was looking like Black might blow up and the Royals would be in a lot of trouble. Then he found the zone managed to strike out Kyle Higashioka to get the second out and keep them loaded. Next up was Royal killer Nicky Lopez, who has been raking against his former club. His streak continued with a single to right scoring Langford from third to take the lead, but it also ended the inning because Duran followed him and was gunned down by Jac. Texas challenged saying Salvador Perez did not get the tag on him. It was upheld and you can watch below to see why. View LinkThe Rangers exited the top of the 4th with a 2-1 lead. It could have been worse and there was still a lot of game left and what a game it was. Kansas City took a couple of innings to tie things back up. After two strikeouts to start the 5th, Vinnie walked to start something up. Then Starling Marte advanced him with a single through the right side. That is when Jac Caglianone decided he was not done causing problems for Texas after last night’s theatrics. He willed a seeing-eye single just past the diving Nicky Lopez at second base. It was not traveling very fast so Pasquantino made it home easily to tie the game. After ending the 5th having given up 2 runs, that would be the end of Mackenzie Gore’s night was over after throwing 87 pitches. He was replaced by Peyton Gray who the Royals got to in the 6th. Collins led of the 6th with a double to the left field corner and was brought home on a Lane Thomas single. Collins got a bad read off the bat. It looked like the throw might have got him but the Rangers cut it off and KC took a 3-2 lead. Texas responded to that immediately when Jake Burger took his second plate appearance to lead off the 7th after replacing the injured Pederson. By this time Black had given way to Stephen Cruz who escaped a messy 6th and Matt Strahm was on for the seventh. His first offering to Burger was a very high slider that was lifted over the left field wall to tie the game at 3 runs apiece. In the bottom of the 7th the Royals started off with two groundouts to set up another 2-out rally. Caglianone grabbed his 3rd hit of the night with a single. Then Nick Loftin brought him home on what was ruled a triple and sure looked like an error to me. Either was the one run lead was back, Royals 4 and Rangers 3. View LinkLucas Erceg was given the 8th. He has been struggling and it was nice to see him strike out Duran to start the inning. Unfortunately, that was the only good part of his outing. After walk, walk, HBP loaded the bases, Erceg was pulled and Daniel Lynch IV came on to try and put out the fire. Jake Burger was next up and Lynch got him to fly out to center. It was deep enough to score Evan Carter and tie the game 4-4. The Royals had now surrendered three separate leads on the night. Lynch then walked Corey Seage to re-load the bases before getting Josh Jung to lineout to right and end the threat. Old friend Jakob Junis took over in the 8th for the Rangers and he plunked Lane Thoms to begin the inning and was pinch run for by Tyler Tolbert. Tolbert stole second but came off the bag with his hand before the leg got to the base and he was called out on replay. Witt and Garcia went down too and we headed to the 9th still tied. Matt Quatraro went John Shreiber out for the 9th, the sixth bullpen arm of the night. He took care of business one two three. Junis returned for 9th in the bottom half and followed suit. It was the calmest inning of the night with no baserunners to be seen. It would be decided in extras with the Royals needing to end it sooner rather than later. They came into the game with a rested bullpen but the early exit from Lugo meant they were down to Alex Lange and Beck Way. Lange would take the 10th and start the inning with a fly ball to center. Then the third former Royal of the night would sting them. Elias Diaz who played for Kansas City just 21 days ago hit the ball hard to the right and Cags misplayed it into a double allowing the Rangers to take the lead for the second time on the night. This was followed by a walk to Nicky Lopez and a Jake Burger infield single. Alex was in some trouble with the bases loaded. He struck out Seager with a beautiful sinker to get the second out and bring up Josh Jung. Lange got ahead 0-2 before throwing four consecutive balls and walking in an insurance run, Royals down 6-4. Nimmo hit a scary liner to center that was tracked down by Tolbert and get him out of the jam. Last chance for the Royals would come against Jacob Latz, the 13th pitcher of the night. Jac took the first pitch up the middle for his fourth hit of the game, another single. Starling Marte was the zombie runner and had to hold on the hit, so he only made it to third. Kameron Misner came in to pinch run for Caglianone and make his Royals debut after being called up this afternoon. Nick Loftin decided that the bases should be loaded in the bottom of the 10th too by taking a walk and bringing Collins up. Ball three was challenged by Diaz though it was a ball, so Texas lost its extra inning challenge too. Isaac battled but was struck out watching a 98 mph fastball at the knees. This is back to the top of the lineup though that meant Tolbert who took over for Lane Thomas after he had been hit by a pitch in the arm earlier. Tolbert hit it straight to third. Step on third throw to first, double play ends the game. It was a tough loss. It was also a thrilling game. Back at it in about 15 hours to see who will win this series.

    José Mourinho Officially Leaves Benfica

(Photo by Valter Gouveia/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images Real Madrid’s expected appointment of José Mourinho is entering its final stages.Benfica officially announced on Thursday that Mourinho has stepped down as head coach after Real Madrid informed the Portuguese club of its intention to activate the manager’s release clause. While Madrid have yet to make an official announcement, the move is considered a matter of timing rather than uncertainty.A Benfica SAD comunicou à CMVM que o Real Madrid CF formalizou a intenção de contratar José Mourinho pelo valor de 15 milhões de euros, tendo o treinador dado o seu acordo.Obrigado, José Mourinho. pic.twitter.com/KXZ6niXRWo— SL Benfica (@SLBenfica) June 9, 2026The Portuguese coach is set to begin his second stint at the Santiago Bernabéu, more than a decade after his first spell ended in 2013. His return comes at a pivotal moment for the club following two disappointing seasons that ended without major silverware and ultimately triggered a change on the bench. With Mourinho expected to sign a three-year contract, attention is already shifting toward the construction of his squad. Early indications suggest that strengthening the defensive unit will be among the club’s primary objectives this summer.During his presidential campaign, Florentino Pérez publicly promised reinforcements in defense, with Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries among the names highlighted. Real Madrid are also expected to pursue a left-back, with several high-profile options reportedly under consideration as the club seeks to rebuild its back line. The prospect of Mourinho’s return has generated a mixture of excitement and skepticism among supporters. His first spell at Madrid helped end Barcelona’s domestic dominance and delivered a record-breaking La Liga title, but it was also marked by controversy and intense pressure. Few figures in modern football provoke stronger reactions, and his return is certain to dominate headlines.Although no presentation date has been confirmed, Mourinho is expected to be unveiled before preseason preparations begin in mid-July. Until then, only the formalities remain. Before departing Benfica, Mourinho released a farewell message thanking the club and those he worked alongside during his time in Portugal.“I thank president Rui Costa for the opportunity he gave me to work for Benfica. Representing this club was an honor and a privilege,” Mourinho said. The veteran coach also expressed his appreciation to Benfica’s staff and players, praising their professionalism and dedication while wishing them success in the future.

Zohran Mamdani finds creative loophole to James Dolan’s NBA Finals watch-party cancellation
Photo by Selcuk Acar/Anadolu via Getty ImagesNew York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani found a creative workaround after James Dolan and Madison Square Garden canceled the New York Knicks Game 4 NBA Finals watch party. The canceled gathering could have left New York Knicks fans with little more than frustration before one of the biggest nights in franchise history.Instead, Zohran Mamdani turned the dispute into a broader statement about access, public space, and how a city can still gather when one location is taken away.Barry Williams/New York Daily News/Tribune News Service via Getty ImagesZohran Mamdani Sends New York Knicks Watch Party To LinkNYCIn a post from NYCMayor on X, Zohran Mamdani presented LinkNYC screens as the city’s answer to the canceled Madison Square Garden watch party for New York Knicks Game 4.“When James Dolan cancels the watch party outside MSG, we bring the watch party to you,” Mamdani tweeted. “Thanks to the NBA, Knicks Game 4 is now playing on dozens of LinkNYC screens across our city.”The move worked because it did not try to recreate the original event in one crowded space. It spread the moment across New York City, using screens already built into the everyday sidewalk experience. That made the response feel more pointed than a standard alternative viewing plan. Zohran Mamdani did not simply replace the Madison Square Garden event, he reframed the night around fans who still wanted to feel connected to the New York Knicks.James Dolan Clash Gives New York Knicks Watch Party A Wider StageThe dispute around Madison Square Garden had already become bigger than a normal event-planning issue before Zohran Mamdani stepped in.City officials said a permit had been approved for a limited crowd outside Madison Square Garden. Madison Square Garden objected to the restrictions and canceled the planned New York Knicks Game 4 watch party before fans could gather there.James Dolan’s side argued that a restricted event would have left too many supporters outside the celebration. The city’s position centered on crowd control, security, and the challenge of staging a major public event outside one of New York City’s busiest venues. That backdrop made the LinkNYC move sharper. It shifted the viewing plan away from a single pressure point outside Madison Square Garden and gave New York Knicks fans a more distributed way to share the game. There is no perfect substitute for a packed watch party outside the arena. Still, putting Game 4 on LinkNYC screens turned a cancellation into a very New York workaround, and it gave Zohran Mamdani the final word in a fight James Dolan seemed ready to own.Read more:Zohran Mamdani blames James Dolan for ‘breaking hearts’ of Knicks fans after Game 4 watch parties cancellationJames Dolan slams NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and says he ‘loves’ Donald TrumpZohran Mamdani addresses Victor Wembanyama flagrant decision when predicting NBA Finals outcome

NBA Finals: De'Aaron Fox's lay-up gaffe gives Game 4 away for good in Knicks' historic comeback
The New York Knicks have completed the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history. They owe a very big “thank you” to De’Aaron Fox for leaving the door open. The final 20 seconds of the game saw the Knicks complete a 29-point comeback win, but they also saw the Spurs guard commit an unbelievable gaffe. With the Spurs up by one point, they got a much needed stop when a Jalen Brunson drive resulted in a loose ball bouncing into Knicks territory.Fox, one of the fastest players in the NBA, chased the ball down with about 13 seconds remaining on the clock. It was at that point the nine-year veteran had a couple choices: a) dribble the ball away from the Knicks, who will likely foul you and give you a chance to put your team up by three without much time left, b) call your final timeout for a chance to reset everything and put the ball in the hands of your best free throw shooter or c) go for the lay-up with OG Anunoby, a very good defender, breathing down your neck.Fox chose option “c.” His reward was a block by Anunoby and Knicks ball. One near-backcourt violation by Knicks guard Jose Alvarado later, New York inbounded the ball and took the lead off a tip-in by Anunoby with 1.2 seconds left. The Spurs failed to muster a shot in response, handing the Knicks the kind of win that might not only decide this series, but effectively end it.It was an up-and-down game overall for Fox, who made a key 3-pointer minutes earlier and finished with 18 points on 6-of-16 shooting, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 turnovers. In the final five minutes alone, he was 1-of-5 with a turnover. It was a game full of regrets for the Spurs, and he had more than his fair share.

World Cup fans say soaring ticket prices are highest in years
A longtime World Cup supporter says this year's tournament is the most expensive he has ever attended, with ticket prices climbing from the hundreds into the millions on resale sites.Sean Riskowitz, who moved from South Africa to Society Hill, has been attending World Cup matches since 2010."It's very expensive," he said.Riskowitz purchased tickets for 13 matches, including all six being played in Philadelphia."The World Cup is the best thing that's ever happened, and it's my once-in-a-lifetime event every four years," he said.READ MORE | 2026 FIFA World Cup: What to know about the schedule, teams, moreHe ultimately decided to sell some of his tickets. Knicks One Win From Title After Historic Game 4 Comeback
NEW YORK – The Knicks are one win away from their first NBA title in 53 years. On Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks overcame a 29-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Spurs 107–106 and take a commanding 3–1 series lead. OG Anunoby’s tip-in with 1.2 seconds left capped the largest comeback in NBA Finals history. “I don’t know if there’s a play bigger in the history of Knicks basketball,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said in his postgame press conference. Game 5 is Saturday night in San Antonio. Tipoff is slated for 8:30 pm ET. The Knicks boast the NBA’s second-highest payroll at $207 million and have been a major money-maker for owner Jim Dolan during the team’s historic run. Analysts estimated to Front Office Sports that the team will generate at least $145 million in revenue from this postseason run, all while Madison Square Garden’s stock price surges amid a possible spinoff of the Knicks and Rangers. And that figure could end up much higher. Team merchandise sold in Madison Square Garden has drawn long lines around the concourse and prompted limitations on how many Finals shirts fans can purchase.Dolan hired superagent Leon Rose in 2020 to run the team’s basketball operations after years of mediocrity. Rose signed Jalen Brunson as a free agent two years later, which vaulted the Knicks into contention. Rose over the next few years traded for the team’s four other current starters in Anunoby (2023), Josh Hart (2023), Mikal Bridges (2024), and Karl-Anthony Towns (2024), building a winning roster neither through free agency nor the draft. The series has had other historic firsts. President Donald Trump, a longtime friend of Dolan, attended Game 3 at MSG, the first time a sitting president has attended an NBA Finals game. New York’s last title came in 1973 when MSG analyst Walt Frazier and then future-Senator Bill Bradley were among the team’s star players. Both men were in the house Monday and Wednesday to support the current Knicks. It’s been a decade since a team overcame a 3–1 deficit to win a championship, when LeBron James led the Cavaliers over the Warriors in seven games in 2016 for that city’s first title since 1964. History isn’t on the Spurs’ side as another half-century long title drought is on the brink of ending. Shohei Ohtani, with worst pitching start of the season, sees ERA rise to still-minuscule 1.06 amid Cy Young push
PITTSBURGH — Shohei Ohtani, blood on his pant leg, sweat on his forehead, trudged off the PNC Park mound wholly unsatisfied. His frustration was warranted — or, at least, understandable. Ohtani had just been yanked, pulled mid-inning for the first time this season. Not since Bo Bichette went 442 to dead center in World Series Game 7 had Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts made that slow stroll to remove his $700 million man. Ohtani the Pitcher handed his boss the baseball, thanked the home plate umpire and hit the proverbial showers — but not the actual ones, of course, because Ohtani the Hitter was still on the clock.Such is life for the four-time MVP, who experienced quite an eventful few hours, even by his standards, on what was a disgustingly muggy Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania.Ohtani, gunning for his first career Cy Young this season, threw 102 pitches across 6 2/3 innings. He also hit a late home run and had another taken away via robbery. With Ohtani throwing to catcher Dalton Rushing for the first time this season, there were a handful of critical missed opportunities for ABS challenges. Then the Dodgers blew a five-run lead in spectacular fashion, eventually losing 9-8.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentStatistically, it was the worst pitching outing of Ohtani’s season, with 3 earned, 6 hits and 3 walks on his ledger. He nearly escaped the proceedings relatively unscathed, but a two-out, two-run, seventh-inning double from Pirates second baseman Brandon Lowe knocked Ohtani from the game. It was just the fourth time this season that a hitter swung at a 3-0 pitch with his team down at least five runs. As a result, Ohtani’s ERA skyrocketed from 0.74 to a still-minuscule 1.06.“Going into that inning, the pitch count was pretty, relatively low,” Ohtani said afterward through interpreter Will Ireton. “So I don’t think [fatigue played a factor.] ... It was just a mis-execution on that 3-0 pitch.”In truth, Ohtani looked his usual self, blowing easy triple-digit heat by a frisky Pirates lineup for most of the night. He admitted that he threw fewer splitters than he wanted to — probably related to the nagging, bleeding blister on his right middle finger — but he was able to quiet the Buccos regardless. Until the seventh, the only blemish was a solo moonshot by rookie Tyler Callihan, a jaw-dropping blast that cleared the stadium altogether. For Ohtani, there was nothing, despite the middling final line and bloody finger, to be legitimately concerned about.“No issues with the blister,” he insisted. “I don’t think it’s been affecting my performance.”But whenever Ohtani fails, falls short, is less than, it is remarkable in and of itself. That’s even more true considering the thin margins on which Ohtani’s Cy Young case will eventually rest.Because the Dodgers are deploying a six-man rotation, Ohtani will finish the season with a lower innings total and lesser counting stats than those of his Cy Young competition. Hurlers such as Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez, Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes, Atlanta’s Chris Sale and Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski are all solid bets to flirt with or surpass the 200-inning mark. Ohtani, now just one out shy of qualifying for MLB’s official leaderboards, will probably finish the regular season with 25 starts. At his current innings per start pace, that will put him right around 150 innings.Such a gap is not unprecedented for a Cy Young winner; Corbin Burnes took home the hardware in 2021, despite having 46 1/3 fewer innings than runner-up Zack Wheeler. Still, it’s a daunting proposition, one that makes every Ohtani start and every Ohtani earned run all the more crucial in his quest for the only major trophy he has yet to win."He wants a Cy Young," Rushing told ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez before this season.Rushing also happened to be a major character Wednesday. The much-maligned backstop has been pushed into regular duty since every-day catcher Will Smith suffered a neck injury over the weekend. Smith was placed on the IL after Wednesday’s game. The Dodgers don’t expect it to be a lengthy stay, but even so, as a result, Rushing caught Ohtani for the first time all season.“I shook a few times more than usual, but I think that’s normal, given that I haven’t really worked with him this year,” Ohtani said afterward. “It’s something that you just have to have a conversation here and there and be on the same page.”In the crucial seventh inning, there were a few borderline pitches that Rushing, who has been uneven with ABS this season, declined to challenge. Ohtani admitted postgame that while he typically leaves those decisions to the catcher, he wished that either he or Rushing had been more aggressive with challenges. Their passivity played a small role in Ohtani’s early-than-preferred departure and, in turn, the Dodgers’ shocking loss.Surely, this was merely a hiccup amid Ohtani’s very real chance at Cy Young glory. But when the leeway is this small, every little misstep might matter in the end.

Inside the numbers: An unbelievable Game 4 between Knicks and Spurs, with tons of numbers to note
The San Antonio Spurs put together one of the best first halves in NBA Finals history. And then the New York Knicks pulled off the best comeback that the league's title round has ever seen.Down 29, the Knicks rallied to beat the Spurs 107-106 on Wednesday night to take a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals. It was the biggest comeback in finals history ... and a whole lot of other things happened in Game 4 as well, some that swung the pendulum completely San Antonio's way and some that wound up letting New York do its share of rewriting the NBA history book as well.A look inside the numbers:A 29-point comebackAbove all else, there was this: The biggest comeback in the finals.San Antonio 81, New York 52 was the score with 9:40 left in the third quarter. No team had ever rallied from 24 points down in a finals game and won; the Knicks outscored the Spurs 55-25 over the final 21 1/2 minutes to pull this off.Boston trailed the Los Angeles Lakers by 24 points in Game 4 of the 2008 finals, before winning 97-91 — another 30-point swing, just like what the Knicks pulled off on Wednesday. There even were records within the record, such as:— The Knicks were down 27 at the half. The biggest halftime deficit successfully overcome in a finals game was 21 points (41-20) by the Baltimore Bullets over the Philadelphia Warriors on April 13, 1948.— The Knicks were down 15 going into the fourth, tying the biggest end-of-three-quarters deficit ever overcome in a finals game. Chicago trailed Portland 79-64 on June 14, 1992.Only a 1-point leadThe Knicks never led by more than one point and won — the first time any team has done that this season. The last time it happened, in any game, regular season or playoffs? Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals, when Indiana beat Oklahoma City 111-110.Down 20 (or more), againThere had been three comebacks from 20-point fourth-quarter deficits in the last 30 years of playoff basketball ... until three weeks ago, that is.The Knicks were down by 22 in the fourth and beat Cleveland in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. They were down by 20 in Game 4 against the Spurs and won again. So, the Knicks in that situation in these playoffs: 2-0.The rest of the NBA in that situation in the last 30 postseasons: 3-751.2 with 33Jalen Brunson scored 36 points and OG Anunoby had 33 for the Knicks. Anunoby had the tip-in that ended up being the winning basket for the Knicks, but two teammates having that many points in a finals game also put that duo in title-series lore. They became the 10th set of teammates with at least 33 points apiece in a finals game.Elgin Baylor and Jerry West did it six times for the Lakers from 1962 through 1966. Kyrie Irving and LeBron James did it twice for Cleveland against Golden State, once in 2016 and again in 2017.The other duos to do it: Philadelphia’s Hal Green and Chet Walker (1967); the Lakers’ West and Wilt Chamberlain (1970); the Lakers’ Magic Johnson and Jamaal Wilkes (1980); the Lakers’ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy (1985); Portland’s Clyde Drexler and Jerome Kersey (1990); the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal (2002); and Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant (2017).27-point halftime leadSan Antonio led 76-49 at the half, the 27-point margin tying the third-largest in finals history.(Technically, that was the biggest halftime lead on the road, but more on that in a moment.)Boston led the Los Angeles Lakers by 30 (79-49) at the half of Game 1 of the 1985 finals. The Lakers led Miami by 28 (64-36) at the half of Game 6 of the 2020 finals in the bubble; the Heat was the designated “home” team for that game, but it was played in the neutral site of Walt Disney World. The Knicks also had a 27-point lead at the half of a finals game in 1970; they led the Lakers 69-42 at the break of Game 7 that year.76 points at the halfSan Antonio had 76 points at halftime, the most by a road team in an NBA Finals game and tied for the third-most by any team in the title series. The other first-half scoring outputs that reached that number: Cleveland scored 86 against Golden State in Game 4 of the 2017 finals; Boston scored 79 against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of the 1985 finals; and the Celtics also scored 76 against the St. Louis Hawks in Game 1 of the 1960 finals. The most by a road team in the first half of a finals game, before Wednesday, was a 73-point first half by the Lakers over the Celtics in Game 2 of the 1962 finals.14 3s in a halfSan Antonio made 14 3-pointers in the first half, an NBA Finals record for any half. The previous record was 13 by Cleveland in the first half against Golden State on June 9, 2017.The Spurs also made eight 3s in the second quarter, one shy of the NBA Finals record for most in a quarter. Golden State made nine in the first quarter against Cleveland on June 7, 2017 and Boston made nine in the fourth quarter against the Warriors on June 2, 2022.The other teams with eight in a quarter: Phoenix against Milwaukee in the 2021 finals and Dallas against Boston in the 2024 finals.1:02Only 62 seconds into the game, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson — or more specifically, whoever makes the call in the second row of the bench area and relays that information — wanted a timeout called to review a foul that was called on San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama.Great move by the review caller. Turns out, New York's Karl-Anthony Towns was pinning Wembanyama's arm, the call got overturned, Towns went to the bench with his second foul of the game and that helped set the tone for the Spurs' huge opening half.___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

A’s Overcome Early Deficit to Win Rubber Match Against Brewers
Jun 10, 2026; Summerlin, Nevada, USA; Athletics center fielder Lawrence Butler (4) reacts after defeating the Milwaukee Brewers at the Las Vegas Ballpark. Mandatory Credit: Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images | Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images The Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers faced off in the rubber match of this three game interleague series. Down 3-0 after 6 1/2 innings, it looked like the A’s offense had finally cooled off in the desert heat. Yet, the team burst to life just in time and then its bullpen shut the door on the Brewers, sealing the A’s 4-3 victory in this tightly-contested series finale.Brewers Assert Early DominanceThe Brewers struck first for a third straight game. Facing A’s starting pitcher Jack Perkins, Christian Yelich drew a leadoff walk and later scored on Andrew Vaughn’s two-out RBI single to right field. Perkins responded by striking out the next batter to strand Vaughn at second base. The Brewers added another run in the second inning. Catcher Gary Sanchez got the inning started with his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. Perkins limited further damage, leaving David Hamilton at third after his one-out double.Meanwhile, Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Sproat was sharp early, holding the A’s scoreless through the first two innings. The visitors made it three in the third as center fielder Jackson Chourio crushed the first pitch of the inning 440 feet to dead center for his sixth home run of the season and second in as many games. Both home runs came on mistake pitches from Perkins, who has yet to find his rhythm as a starter. Perkins allowed two walks but no further runs, though he needed over 30 pitches to complete the inning.A’s Threaten but Don’t ScoreA’s center fielder Henry Bolte led off the A’s half of the third with an infield single, speeding down the line to beat the throw to first. He then stole second, putting himself in scoring position with no outs. Sproat walked second baseman Jeff McNeil before the Brewers middle infield turned a slick double play on a ball off the bat of A’s shortstop Alika Williams. The right-hander promptly struck out Kurtz to end the inning. Through three innings, the A’s hit into two rally-killing double plays. Maybe the inning would have gone differently if Williams had bunted to advance the runners rather than swing away. Game Rolls AlongPerkins tossed his first scoreless inning of the night in the fourth, which also marked the end of his laborious outing. The A’s starter allowed three runs on five hits and three walks. Offensively, the A’s could not take advantage, continuing to struggle against Sproat, who needed just 58 pitches to complete five scoreless innings.Athletics right-handed reliever Luis Medina replaced Perkins in the fifth and needed just seven pitches to complete a scoreless inning. He remained in the game the next inning; however, the Brewers opened the sixth with back-to-back singles. Medina escaped the jam unscathed, getting Milwaukee’s shortstop Joey Ortiz to ground into an inning-ending double play.A’s Score At LastThe A’s finally scored off Sproat in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Williams hit his first MLB home run, a solo shot to left field, cutting the hosts’ deficit to two. The Brewers stranded two runners on base in their latest attempt to extend the lead. A’s Complete the ComebackIn the last of the seventh, the visitors turned to reliever Chad Patrick after Sproat allowed one run over six innings on just 68 pitches. A’s right fielder Carlos Cortes welcomed Patrick to the game by hitting his sixth home run of the year, a 461 feet solo shot to right to cut his team’s deficit to one. Los goes yard!!!🗳️: https://t.co/SBezYOtGtGpic.twitter.com/oN2Gp22PiE— Athletics (@Athletics) June 11, 2026A’s third baseman Zack Gelof followed by lining a double to right, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Then, right fielder Lawrence Butler came through with his biggest hit in a while. His fourth home run of the season, a 463 feet two-run rocket to center field, put the hosts up 4-3. The A’s hit 15 home runs this series, tying a franchise record for most home runs in a three-game series.LAW DAWGGGGGG#VoteAthletics ⭐️ https://t.co/SBezYOtGtGpic.twitter.com/zOhTW7PUvN— Athletics (@Athletics) June 11, 2026The Brewers turned to left-hander Aaron Ashby after Patrick failed to record an out. With two outs, Williams singled and then Kurtz walked. The runners advanced 90 feet on a passed ball before Soderstrom grounded out to end the inning.Chaotic EighthIn the eighth, Milwaukee collected two straight singles with one out. A’s left-hander Hogan Harris escaped trouble by getting pinch-hitter William Contreras to ground into an inning-ending double play, preserving the hosts’ one-run lead.Jeff McNeil does it himself for a HUGE double play ✌️ pic.twitter.com/g7y3WRHoSR— Athletics on NBCS (@NBCSAthletics) June 11, 2026Facing new Brewers reliever Trevor Megill, A’s catcher Shea Langeliers led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to the left-center field gap. Megill retired the next three batters as the A’s failed to capitalize on a prime chance to add an insurance run.Elvis is BackAthletics reliever Elvis Alvarado entered to pitch the ninth. Alvarado was dominant for a second straight night as the Brewers top three hitters were no match for his 100 mph fastball and nasty slider. The hard-throwing reliever struck out two of the three batters he faced, recording his first career save and more importantly securing the series victory for the Athletics against a very good Brewers squad. The Athletics will have a day off in Las Vegas tomorrow. On Friday, the Colorado Rockies open a three-game series against the A’s at Las Vegas Ballpark. Left-hander Gage Jump will start for the A’s at a ballpark he knows well, having made several starts there during his time in Triple-A. The Rockies have not yet announced their starter for Friday night’s matchup.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jose Siri hit a game-winning single in the 10th inning, Mike Trout and Logan O’Hoppe homered, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Wednesday night. Chase Silseth replaced Detmers to begin the eighth and gave up a leadoff homer to Cam Smith that tied it 2-all. Houston nearly took the lead in the ninth. George Kittle explains why QB Mac Jones is the 49ers' 'glue guy'
San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Mac Jones was one of the most talked-about trade candidates this offseason. After stepping in for an injured Brock Purdy and going 5-3 as a starter — completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions — the former Patriots first-round pick had done more than enough to generate interest around the league. The 49ers ultimately held on to him, giving Jones a pay bump after the draft came and went without a trade deal. And by all accounts, Jones is fine with how things played out. But more than just being a good backup, Jones appears to be a key player off the field for the 49ers, according to tight end George Kittle."He's a juice guy," Kittle said on Fanduel TV's Up & Adams show. "He's got all the energy in the world and he loves life. Usually, your quarterback's not usually the glue guy — and Mac Jones is a glue guy. It's usually like an offensive lineman, a tight end, maybe a D-lineman. There's usually like one guy that the entire team loves. That's Mac Jones."Mac Jones is the ULTIMATE glue guy, according to George Kittle 🤝@MacJones_10 | @gkittle46 | @49ers | @heykayadamspic.twitter.com/GoumT7tIRt— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) June 10, 2026Kittle described a teammate who shows up whenever and wherever the guys need him — road trips to San Francisco, weekends in Vegas, nearly a trip to Miami Swim Week."He's always down to hang out with the boys and just support," Kittle added. But Kittle was quick to note that Jones' off-field presence only means something because he backs it up between the lines."He worked his tail off, does everything he can to play at a high level — and he's the only reason we made the playoffs," Kittle said. "I have nothing but green flags to say about Mac Jones."Jones even responded to Kittle's kind words and noted in a recent interview that he isn't dwelling on what could have been and said he isn't mad about not being dealt to a team where he could start. Instead, Jones said that he's happy to be having fun playing football again."I want to build on it and have another good year," Jones said. "It's never been really about the money for me, to be honest. I'm just glad that I'm having fun again. That's priceless to me.”This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: George Kittle explains why QB Mac Jones is the 49ers' 'glue guy'
