SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFamily of victim in Darron Lee murder case plans to pursue potential claim against ChatGPTThe murder case against former NFL first-round draft pick Darron Lee includes evidence that he used ChatGPT for advice on how to deal with an “unresponsive” person.Via Madison Sims of Local3News.com, the family of the victim in the case, Gabriella Perpétuo, plans to pursue accountability from ChatGPT for facilitating those efforts."The defendant in this case engaged ChatGPT to cover up a crime,” attorney C. Mark Warren told Sims. "We feel like that it’s important that ChatGPT and all AI platforms have guardrails in place where they can engage, but not engage without consequences."There's an inherent ready-fire-aim quality to AI, with millions of users essentially serving as the beta testers. Companies like OpenAI are using the real-time experiences of everyone using the product to fine-tune it.That process will give rise to a wide range of problems. OpenAI already faces litigation alleging that ChatGPT served as a "suicide coach." And there's more than one such case.As to Lee, if Perpétuo was unresponsive but still alive, Lee's decision to use ChatGPT for advice on how to handle the situation — and ChatGPT's willingness to comply with the prompt — may have squandered the last opportunity to save her.Especially if the response from ChatGPT was anything other than, "Call 911 right now."When a life is lost, justice comes in various forms. Lee faces first-degree murder charges. The family has filed a $50 million wrongful-death lawsuit against him. ChatGPT and OpenAI may have liability, too.The AI revolution will give rise to plenty of legal questions. The responsibility of such companies to program their products to act properly in such situations will be determined either through regulation or litigation. For most new industries, there's a Wild West phase that plays out before the legislative and/or regulatory components of state and/or federal government can catch up. That's where the civil justice system becomes critical to the creation of clear standards through the application of settled principles (primarily, negligence) aimed at forcing these companies to treat those who use their products with an adequate amount of care and respect.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLiverpool in talks beat Barcelona to the signing of 28-year-old wide playerLiverpool in talks beat Barcelona to the signing of 28-year-old wide playerLiverpool needs to invest in a right back this summer, and Andrei Ratiu is reportedly on their shortlist. The 28-year-old defender has done quite well for Rayo Vallecano, and Liverpool is impressed with his performances. According to a report from Anfield Index, they are preparing a move for the 28-year-old Romanian defender.Andrei Ratiu available for a reasonable priceThe player has a €25 million release clause in his contract. Liverpool certainly has the financial resources to get the deal done. They have Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley at their disposal, but both players have struggled with injuries. It is clear that Liverpool cannot rely on them to play every week. They need more depth in that area of the pitch, and the Romanian could be an interesting option for them.He has shown his quality in La Liga, and he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well. The report claims that Barcelona are also interested in signing the defender, but Liverpool have already held talks with his representatives in recent weeks. APNEWS.COMTrump deepens the dustup with Italy’s Meloni over a disputed photo from the G7 summitPresident Donald Trump speaks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a working lunch with leaders of G7 and the Middle East in Evian-les-Bains, France, Tuesday, June 16, 2026. (Evelyn Hockstein/Pool Photo via AP)2026-06-20T13:06:12Z WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Saturday lashed out at Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, insisting that she asked “over and over” for a photo with him at the recent Group of Seven summit and criticizing what he said was Italy’s lack of cooperation during the Iran war.The remarks deepen the spat that began this week with the Republican president’s interview with an Italian broadcaster, during which Trump claimed Meloni “begged” for the photo during the G7 meeting in France. Meloni has called that “completely fabricated.” The dustup led Italy’s foreign minister to cancel a planned trip to the United States as Meloni’s government lined up in her defense.“Italian Prime Minister Gigiorgia Meloni asked, over and over, for a picture with me during the G-7 meeting in France,” Trump wrote on his social media platform while spending the weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat. He misspelled her first name in the initial post, which he later corrected. He continued: “She is doing poorly in Italy with her level of popularity, possibly because she turned down the United States of America, a Country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to denying Iran from obtaining or developing a Nuclear Weapon (But so did NATO, for that matter!).” Trump’s comments were aired Friday on the La7 network. A correspondent had asked the president about Ukraine, but Trump raised Meloni and made the claim about the photo. Trump said he was not obliged to take the picture with her but that he felt sorry for her and agreed, La7 said. The broadcaster put a dubbed version of the conversation online, but not the original English audio. Read More In his post, Trump also complained that Meloni would not allow the U.S. to use Italy’s landing strips or runways during the Iran war even though the U.S. is a leader in defense spending among NATO allies. That is a long-standing complaint about the military alliance and one that Trump raised before his White House meeting Wednesday with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and the NATO summit in Turkey next month. Italy, a key logistics hub for the U.S., declined in March to allow American bombers headed for the Middle East to use a base in Sicily without parliamentary approval. Trump vented his frustration about Meloni and on Saturday claimed that she “wants to be friends again” in light of the initial deal between the U.S. and Iran to end the war. APNEWS.COMWarsh’s gamble: A quieter Federal Reserve could mean volatile markets, higher ratesFederal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's press conference appears on screens on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, Wednesday, June 17, 2026. (AP Photo/Richard Drew)2026-06-20T12:44:57Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve has for decades moved steadily from a remote, opaque government agency that shared little about what it did or why to a more transparent institution willing to explain how it makes decisions and what it thinks about the economy. But in his first press conference Wednesday, new chair Kevin Warsh began to reverse some of those steps. Warsh, like many economists, thinks the financial markets have become too dependent on Fed guidance, and that such direction is more effective in financial crises or economic downturns.Warsh quickly made changes: The Fed’s statement on its interest-rate decision was slashed to 132 words, from 341 in April. And Warsh pointedly noted that the statement excluded any hints, or “forward guidance,” about what the Fed’s next moves might be. In short, Warsh rapidly delivered on a promise to slash the Fed’s communications, particularly the guidance it gives to financial markets about its next interest-rate moves. Yet such an approach carries the risk of more violent swings in stock and bond prices, analysts say, and ultimately could lead to higher interest rates for consumers and businesses. “Forward guidance in general has served to suppress volatility and anchor market expectations,” said George Pearkes, global macro strategist at Bespoke Investment Group. “And that has led to lower borrowing rates, relative to alternatives.” Still, the impact on consumers is likely to be modest, Pearkes added, with mortgage rates perhaps a quarter-point higher than they would be otherwise. Read More Financial markets see-sawed, then fell Wednesday after the statement and news conference. The yield on the 10-year Treasury, which strongly influences mortgage rates, jumped Wednesday to 4.49% from 4.43%, though it fell back in Thursday trading. The yield on the 2-year Treasury, which closely tracks expectations for Fed action, was 4.16% Thursday, up sharply from 4.05% before the Fed’s meeting. The broad S&P 500 stock index dropped 1.2% Wednesday. Warsh may be headed back to 1990sSuch swings could be a sign of things to come. Previous chairs have signaled the Fed’s next moves clearly enough that financial markets have largely anticipated the central bank’s actions. But Warsh has frequently cited as a model former chair Alan Greenspan, whose circumspect comments often kept investors guessing. Greenspan, who served as chair from 1987 to 2005, did usher in the statement the Fed now issues after each meeting announcing its decision. The first statement was issued Feb. 4, 1994, and said the Fed would increase its key rate for the first time in five years. The move caught investors off-guard and the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 2.4% that day. Sign up for Morning Wire: Our flagship newsletter breaks down the biggest headlines of the day. The paring back of Fed communications is part of a larger package of potential reforms to the central bank’s operations that Warsh signaled Wednesday. He announced that the Fed will set up five task forces to examine the Fed’s communications, its balance sheet, how it analyzes and gathers economic data, the impact of AI on productivity and jobs, and the frameworks it uses to analyze inflation. Warsh said the communications task force would consider changes to the quarterly economic projections the Fed issues as well as look at other recent innovations, including press conferences. Former chair Ben Bernanke was the first to hold them, though he did so only after every other Fed meeting. Warsh’s predecessor, Jerome Powell, shifted to holding them after every meeting. Such steps are a sharp contrast with the 1990s, when Greenspan never explained a Fed decision, on the record, to reporters. Warsh could ultimately dial back some of the Fed’s increased transparency.“This is a big change in how the Fed has conducted itself since the (2008-2009) global financial crisis,” Matthew Luzzetti, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank, said. “Since then there has been a one-way train to greater communication, more transparency, and more forward guidance. Warsh has now put that train in reverse.” Fed chairs have seen benefits to forward guidancePrevious Fed chairs, starting with Bernanke, have seen a clear benefit to more communication: It helps guide the markets in the direction the Fed wants. Fed officials control a short-term interest rate, but the rates that affect the economy — such as the yield on the 10-year Treasury — are heavily influenced by investors’ expectations for inflation and economic growth. By telegraphing their next moves, policymakers can cause those longer-term rates to change even before the Fed adjusts its own benchmark rate. Yet Warsh’s view is that financial markets have become too dependent on Fed guidance. Instead, he wants investors to gauge where the Fed may move next by examining economic data and making their own judgments, which the Fed can then consider as part of their assessments of where the economy is headed. “Financial market prices are probably the most important source of information to guide central bankers,” Warsh said at Wednesday’s news conference. Guidance can help with unexpected eventsDavid Andolfatto, an economics professor at the University of Miami and former economist at the St. Louis Fed, said he agreed with Warsh that forward guidance has flaws. It can be easily upended by unexpected events, he said, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine or the Iran war. But the chair should set out guidelines for how the Fed will react to unexpected events, Andolfatto said, or to challenges such as the persistent inflation it is grappling with now, yet Warsh so far hasn’t done so. “I’m with him on dispensing with forward guidance, but you have to replace it with a contingency plan,” Andolfatto said. “It’s not enough to say, trust me, we’ll keep inflation at target.” Ironically, Warsh’s decision to drop forward guidance may empower the other 18 members of the Fed’s rate-setting committee, Pearkes said. Those officials — six members of the Fed’s governing board, plus the presidents of the 12 regional Fed banks — frequently give public speeches, and their remarks will get even more attention as financial markets seek clues about what the Fed may do next. A big challenge to Warsh’s approach will come if there is a sharp financial downturn or economic crisis, as occurred during the COVID pandemic. In those circumstances, economists said, forward guidance can play an important role calming markets. “Whether it will stand the test of time and he will behave this way for five years is a very different question, but one that we’re going to have to wait for events to unfold to get an answer to,” Pearkes said. APNEWS.COMUkrainian officials criticize Polish president’s decision to strip Zelenskyy of honorPolish President Karol Nawrocki, left, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attend an official welcome ceremony before their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, Poland, Dec. 19, 2025. (AP Photo/Czarek Sokolowski, File)2026-06-20T09:22:48Z WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A decision by the Polish president to strip Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Poland’s highest state honor was beneficial to Moscow, which has an interest in seeing Kyiv in conflict with its allies, Ukrainian officials said. President Karol Nawrocki announced Friday he will strip Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle over the Ukrainian leader’s decision to name a military unit after a Ukrainian paramilitary organization accused of massacring Poles during World War II.Former Polish President Andrzej Duda bestowed the award on Zelenskyy in 2023 for services to security, resilience and the defense of human rights. Zelenskyy issued a decree on May 26 naming a military unit of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, or UPA, which operated during the 1940s and 1950s and has been accused in Poland of mass killings. “For the majority of Polish society, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army remains above all a formation responsible for cruel crimes against the citizens of the Polish Republic during World War II,” Nawrocki said in a 13-minute address on social media. The decision to revoke the honor did not mean Poland’s support for Ukraine in its defense against Russia would decrease, Nawrocki said. The Ukrainian decision was met with widespread criticism in Poland. However, Nawrocki is a nationalist politician who has exploited anti-Ukrainian sentiment for electoral gain. Ukrainians in Poland have been facing increasing prejudice despite their contribution to the economy. Read More Ukrainian Presidential Office chief Kyrylo Budanov wrote on Telegram that Nawrocki’s decision was “an unfriendly act toward our people” and “a gift to the Moscow aggressor, which will certainly use it against both of our countries.”Ukraine Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the step “a strategic mistake by the President of Poland, one that benefits only Moscow.” Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland Vasyl Bodnar said the decision was “especially painful” as Ukrainians battle missile and drone attacks. The three Ukrainian officials, as well as Budanov’s deputy, Ihor Zhovkva, said they would return state honors that Poland had issued them. Some have criticized Ukraine’s response.Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Ukraine’s former prime minister, wrote on X Saturday that one “harmful and incorrect decision by the current president of Poland cannot be corrected by other incorrect decisions of ours.”Poland is scheduled to host a major event on Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction next week, which Zelenskyy is expected to attend. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, a political rival of Nawrocki, urged the two leaders to “tone down emotions, not stoke tensions.” “The front line runs elsewhere,” Tusk wrote on social media Friday night, adding that the conflict between Poland and Ukraine “delights Putin and shocks our allies.”Zelenskyy’s May decree said the designation was meant to restore the historical traditions of the national military and recognize the unit’s performance in defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence. The UPA fought for Ukrainian independence against both Nazi Germany and Soviet forces. But it has been accused of killing tens of thousands of Poles, most in the Nazi-occupied regions of Volhynia and Eastern Galicia. In 2016, the Polish Parliament recognized the crimes committed by UPA as genocide. Ukrainians say armed formations on both sides, including the UPA and Polish underground forces, were involved in attacks and reprisals that led to large-scale civilian casualties among Poles and Ukrainians.Poland and Ukraine had recently made progress on the issue of exhumation of Polish victims. A December meeting between the two presidents in Warsaw had signaled progress on historical reconciliation.___Yurchuk reported from Kyiv, Ukraine. APNEWS.COMUtah marks a year of battling measles, with no clear end in sightLauren Ellenburg, a nurse, prepares a combination measles, mumps and rubella vaccine for a patient at Tiger Pediatrics in Easley, S.C., March 17, 2026. (AP Photo/Mary Conlon, File)2026-06-20T12:21:01Z Utah has spent the past year fighting measles outbreaks — a grim milestone that could affect whether the United States can keep its measles-free designation. More than 680 people have gotten sick since the state’s first outbreak began on June 20, 2025.Unlike measles outbreaks in Texas, South Carolina and Arizona, the spread in Utah has been tough to contain to one region — infecting undervaccinated communities in nearly every county. Measles popped up in healthcare settings, big-box stores and restaurants, and youth sporting events. In February, an exposure at a state high school wrestling championship sparked at least 46 cases among attendees.Measles is one of the most contagious diseases known to medicine. It causes a tell-tale rash, high fevers, strong cough, ear infections and diarrhea. While most recover, some — including young babies, pregnant people and those with weak immune systems — are at higher risk of developing dangerous complications like pneumonia, brain swelling, blindness or even dying. Even healthy people can develop issues years down the road, including a rare but fatal degenerative brain disease that manifests about a decade after infection. The measles vaccine is safe and 97% protective after two doses. Though Utah’s spread has slowed in recent weeks, state epidemiologist Leisha Nolen sees little opportunity to rest. She’s worried the start of school and arrival of colder weather in the fall will cause measles to surge again.“It’s still here, it’s still transmitting,” she said. “We just need those few cases to hit the wrong community and it could flare up really big again.” Read More Utah sees the impacts of dropping vaccination ratesThe worst spread has been in the southwestern part of the state, where 265 people have fallen ill with the vaccine-preventable disease since last summer. Overall, measles infections hit 22 of the state’s 29 counties. In the state’s rural northeast, the conditions were also ripe for measles to spread. Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties — collectively dubbed the “tricounty” health region — has seen the second-largest decline in childhood vaccination rates in the state. More than 16% of the region’s kindergarteners were missing their measles vaccines in the last school year, according to state data. Statewide, 12.8% were missing their vaccine, putting the state far short of the 95% vaccination rate needed to prevent measles outbreaks. The TriCounty Health Department logged 74 cases of measles this spring, after people who got sick at the youth wrestling tournament spread the virus in school and later within their households. The frontier region had seen a rise in vaccine hesitancy for some time, said Sydnee Lyons, the health department’s public information officer. Despite the large number of cases, local and state health officials consider TriCounty’s measles response a success. Health officials focused efforts on mitigating the inevitable spread. Unvaccinated students were excluded from in-person school and people who were sick were told to isolate themselves. And their appeal to care for one’s neighbors led to more people coming in to get vaccinated, officials said. TriCounty’s infectious disease specialist Cyndie Mattinson recalled a parent who told a school nurse she didn’t want to talk to the health department because “she was worried that we would be angry with her and be judgmental because her children were unvaccinated.” The nurse vouched for the health department staff, and told the mom to let her know if she felt judged. Mattinson ultimately had a great conversation with the mother.“The perceptions were changed that we weren’t out there to police, we were there to be a help and a resource to the community,” Mattinson said. Health experts will meet to decide on US measles statusUtah’s lengthy battle with measles will likely affect whether the U.S. can keep its measles-free designation. Public health officials consider measles to be eliminated from a country when it shows it stopped continuous spread within local communities for at least a year. The national measles case count was 2,104 as of June 18, nearly surpassing last year’s record total.Utah has fought measles for a year, but it’s not clear if the earliest clusters are connected with the major outbreak on the Utah-Arizona state line, which was detected in August, Nolen said. But since then, most of the state’s measles cases have come from within Utah, not from other parts of the country.International health experts will gather in November to determine if the U.S. and Mexico have lost their measles elimination status. Canada lost its status last year after ongoing outbreaks. In Utah, doctors continue to reassure scared patients and lobby for better public health policy.Dr. Ellie Brownstein, president-elect of the state chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a pediatrician in Salt Lake City, spent the height of the outbreak opposing a bill that would have made school vaccine waivers easier to get. It failed, but she says there hasn’t been a clear cultural reckoning over measles’ resurgence. “I don’t know that we get it to end,” Brownstein said. “I don’t know that we’re going to get this genie back in the box because there’s enough people out there to spread it.”___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Department of Science Education and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. One for All. WE completed the mission together as brothers, and that’s all that matters to me.”Fans had been questioning why Irving was not part of the Cavaliers’ current 10-year reunion trip, with LeBron James, Richard Jefferson, Channing Frye, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith, Matthew Dellavedova, Kevin Love, and others gathering around a golf retreat. The noise grew after Smith appeared to suggest Irving had been invited and had ghosted the group. Later reporting claimed Irving never RSVPed because he was handling family matters, which softened the idea that his absence was rooted in a broken relationship.Irving’s caption matters because it did not read like damage control. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTunisia Rolls The Dice By Hiring New Coach After One World Cup GameSweden celebrates its fifth goal against Tunisia in both team's 2026 World Cup opener.Getty ImagesLet’s say you’re finishing a day of work, and you’re getting ready to head out the door. The boss stops you. “We need your help,” the boss says. “We had to let someone go, and he had a major project due in five days. We’re reassigning it to you. Good luck.”Now imagine that your project will be unveiled in front of a global TV audience measuring in the nine figures. That’s the situation Hervé Renard faces. He is the new coach of Tunisia, which fired head coach Sabri Lamouchi after just one game in the World Cup — a 5-1 loss to Sweden. The veteran coach was hired on Tuesday. His first game with Tunisia will be against Japan on Saturday night in Monterrey, Mexico. (Midnight for those on the East Coast; 9 p.m. Pacific.)Renard was available because he was fired two months ago, when Saudi Arabia said, “Thanks for leading us through World Cup qualifying, but we’re going in a different direction.” The Frenchman’s resume is impressive. He led Zambia to its first African Cup of Nations championship in 2012. He won his second African championship in 2015 with Ivory Coast. He then led two consecutive World Cup qualification campaigns — Morocco in 2018, Saudi Arabia in 2022 — and was on the sideline with Saudi Arabia for its colossal upset over Argentina. He has pulled off a rare double by coaching in both the men’s and women’s World Cups, leading France through the 2023 Women’s World Cup. It’s safe to say Renard’s assignment is far from routine. A few coaches have been fired after two group-stage games, including another Tunisian national team coach — Henryk Kasperczak in 1998. But those firings were essentially capitulations by teams that were already eliminated. In the 48-team World Cup, in which eight of the 12 teams that place third in their groups will advance to the knockout rounds, the math doesn’t rule out a Tunisia comeback. Unfortunately, the degree of difficulty is about as high as whatever Simone Biles tries in the Olympics.Realistically, Sweden was the team that Tunisia needed to beat to have a solid chance. In the current FIFA rankings, Sweden stands 34th, far lower than their next two opponents — Japan (17th) and the Netherlands (8th). The good news for Tunisia is that changing coaches doesn’t seem to faze the players too much. The team had three different coaches in World Cup qualification but didn’t concede a single goal in 10 games. Even the third coach didn’t last — Lamouchi took over in January, three months after qualification ended. But with the World Cup expanding to 48 teams, many countries had easy paths, and Tunisia’s was among the easiest. The rest of their group: Namibia, Liberia, Malawi, Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe. None of those teams have ever qualified for the World Cup, nor are they in the top 100 in FIFA’s rankings. The bottom line is that nothing in Tunisia’s history, recent or otherwise, suggests that expectations should have been high. The team has three World Cup wins in its history. They won the African Cup of Nations in 2004 but only made the semifinals one time since then, and they didn’t make it past the round of 16 last year.In international soccer, coaches have to play the hand they’re dealt, and the cards are not in Tunisia’s favor. The team is in a transitional phase, with some older defenders and defensive midfielders (Nice’s Ali Abdi, Union Berlin’s Rani Khedira, Frankfurt’s Ellyes Skhiri) over age 30 and promising young players (Augsburg’s Ismaël Gharbi, PSG’s Khalil Ayari, Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri) not yet firmly established as seasoned top-level professionals. The site transfermarkt, which estimates the value of each player on the transfer market through which clubs buy and sell their players, estimates the total value of Tunisia’s players at a little less than 70 million Euros, or $80 million. The other teams in their group are much higher: Japan is more than 270 million Euros, Sweden is over 400 million Euros, and the Netherlands’ squad is over 750 million Euros. (For the purpose of comparison: The U.S. team is at 385 million Euros.)So advancing to the knockout rounds for the first time was always going to be a long shot. Scrambling to hire a new coach after one game doesn’t seem likely to change that. But the team was going nowhere under Lamouchi. Under Renard, they may suffer two more lopsided defeats — or they might induce enough chaos to shock the world.Lamouchi would surely feel differently, but from the team’s perspective, maybe they have nothing to lose. This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

In order to enable him to stay fit and fresh for the ODIs, the selectors had left him out of the T20I squad, but the Mumbai Indians captain will now have to wait for some time before making his return to the format for the first time since the 2025 Champions Trophy final in Dubai on March 8.The 37-year-old Kohli had to miss the ongoing ODI series at home against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal replacing him. The superstar bat has been tele-consulting famous orthopedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwalla, who is based at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, and is the consultant orthopaedic surgeon for the BCCI.Kohli had picked up the hamstring injury during his unbeaten 75-run knock off 42 balls in the IPL final, which helped RCB chase down 156 against Gujarat Titans and lift them to their second consecutive IPL title. 1318731190 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDTM Lausitzring 1: Mapelli takes first Temerario victory thanks to pit luckMotorsport photoThe new bull from Italy stormed surprisingly to his first victory in the DTM: Abt-Lamborghini driver Marco Mapelli wins the first race at the Lausitzring. The 38-year-old Italian, who had started the race from 16th on the grid, completed his mandatory pit stop during a full-course yellow phase and thus benefited from an enormous time advantage."Yes, at the start we took a gamble, just like others did, and I trusted the team," Mapelli told ProSieben. Despite a rain shower before the start, Abt went into the race on slick tires. "But I wasn't really sure, especially on the first lap. But sometimes you just have to listen to people who have already won much more.""That worked out well," says the Italian, who only benefited from the pit stop during the yellow phase. "Of course we were lucky with the full-course yellow, that was a game changer. I think it's a nice reward for everyone working on this project. I'm happy."Ben Dörr repeats his podium from ZandvoortBen Dörr (Dörr-McLaren) and Manthey-Porsche driver Ricardo Feller also had the same luck, as they too came into the pits at the perfect time and completed the podium on Saturday. Polesitter Nicki Thiim (Comtoyou-Aston-Martin) was unlucky: despite a bold tire gamble that had actually already paid off, the Dane only finished fourth."To be honest, I didn't expect that," second-placed Dörr told ProSieben. "I rather assumed we would have poor chances here. But strategy and weather played into our hands today, just like for the other two on the podium.""I think we did everything right today and can be very satisfied with the result," the McLaren driver praises his team. "Of course we started on slicks and gambled a little with that, because we had repeatedly had problems in the rain in the past."Marco Wittmann (Schubert-BMW) finishes fifth, followed by Maximilian Paul (Grasser-Lamborghini) and Thierry Vermeulen in the Emil Frey Ferrari. Lucas Auer (Landgraf-Mercedes) takes eighth position, while Jules Gounon (Winward-Mercedes) and Matteo Cairoli (Emil Frey Ferrari) complete the top 10.Rain shower causes tire gamble at the startEven before the race, the teams and drivers faced a difficult tire decision: around 15 minutes before the start, a heavy rain shower fell, flooding the track within a very short time and causing a five-minute delay.Due to the high asphalt temperatures, the strong wind, and the fact that apparently no further rain was expected, some teams anticipated the track would dry quickly. Several drivers therefore opted for slicks, including even polesitter Thiim. View this post on InstagramAfter two formation laps, the start was given in the familiar two-by-two formation. Lucas Auer immediately stormed into the lead on rain tires, followed by his two AMG brand teammates Jules Gounon and Maro Engel. The fourth AMG driver Tom Kalender (Landgraf-Mercedes) was spun around in the midfield.Bastian Buus also didn't get far: the Land-Porsche driver spun into the gravel trap in turn 7 and got stuck there, triggering the first and only safety car phase. That especially played into the hands of the slick-tire drivers, who thus did not lose even more ground. However, Thiim had already dropped back to 13th at that point.Slick tires become the decisive advantageWhen the safety car came in again a few laps later, the track was significantly drier, but the drivers on slicks were still at a disadvantage. Auer defended his lead against Gounon, while Engel behind them had to give way to Cairoli and Arjun Maini (HRT-Ford).Just the second lap after the restart brought the turning point: the lap times of the cars on slick tires now became significantly faster. At that point Thiim was the best-placed driver on treadless tires, lapping around two seconds faster than the leaders and beginning to pass the first rivals on rain tires. View this post on InstagramEven before the pit stop window opened, the Dane had already moved past Auer into the lead. It was accordingly hardly surprising that all the drivers on rain tires came into the pits at the first opportunity to switch to slicks. One lap later, however, Thiim, Vermeulen and Paul also completed their mandatory pit stop, while Timo Glock had to park his Dörr-McLaren on the track due to a technical defect. This in turn led to a full-course yellow phase, which became the race-deciding moment.Mapelli, Dörr and Feller lucky with the pit stopAlthough it is not permitted to complete the mandatory stop during a full-course yellow phase, Marco Mapelli, Ben Dörr and Ricardo Feller had already crossed the line at the pit entry when the yellow phase was called. Therefore, their pit visit was counted as the mandatory stop. After the pit stop window closed, a completely different picture emerged at the front: Mapelli was suddenly leading in the Abt Lamborghini, closely followed by Dörr and Feller. The trio was more than 20 seconds ahead of Thiim, who despite his charge could not turn his successful tire gamble at the start into a victory.Mapelli's debut success was no longer in danger in the closing stages. The Italian even extended his lead over Dörr further in the final laps and ultimately crossed the finish line as a commanding winner.Maro Engel, who had previously led the overall DTM standings, on the other hand experienced a difficult race. After the full-course yellow, the Winward-Mercedes driver slid off the track and plowed through the gravel trap, which dropped him far back. In the end, Engel finished only in 15th place and collects just one point for that. The AMG driver engaged in a hard duel against Manthey-Porsche driver Thomas Preining in the closing stages. After several position changes, contacts and angry radio messages, Preining ultimately came out on top. Engel must surrender his overall lead to brand teammate Auer. There is hardly any time for the drivers to let tempers cool down again: the sixth race of the 2026 DTM season is already scheduled for Sunday. After the morning qualifying session (from 9 a.m.), the start of the next heat battle at the Lausitzring follows at 1:30 p.m.To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAnalyst names the best and worst jerseys in 49ers historyFew uniform histories in the NFL carry the weight of the San Francisco 49ers', with five Lombardi Trophies and decades of iconic gold-and-red looks to choose from. The Athletic's Matt Barrows took on the task of ranking the best and worst looks in the franchise's history, and his picks reflect both the franchise's enduring classic look and a brief experiment that didn't quite work. For the best, Barrows went with the traditional road uniform that has been a staple since 1964.The 49ers' home and away jerseys both are winners, but the road whites get a slight nod. That's because the gold pants, which in the team's heyday leaned more toward beige, have since become brighter, making them compete with the red jerseys. The white tops are more understated and thus a better complement. On the other end, Barrows singled out the black Color Rush uniforms worn intermittently from 2015-2017 and again in 2025.Black uniforms always sound good … until they're put to the test. When the 49ers wore them beginning in 2015, there wasn't enough contrast between the black background and the red stenciling, which made the numbers hard to see. Was it Garrett Celek (88) who just made that catch? Or was it Vance McDonald (89)? It didn't help that the team went 1-4 in the alternates. The contrast between the two picks underscores a common theme in uniform rankings across the league: the simplest, most enduring looks tend to age better than flashier alternates designed for one-off appearances. For a franchise as steeped in tradition as the 49ers, it's fitting that the road whites, which have remained virtually unchanged for more than 60 years, still hold up as the gold standard. This article originally appeared on Niners Wire: Analyst names the best and worst jerseys in 49ers history0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTime running out for Steelers rookie Drew Allar to avoid being a problemWhen the Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft, it came as something of a shock. Not just to fans but Allar himself who is a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan and didn't seem at all excited about the pick. Nevertheless, Allar showed up and has gone through all of the Steelers offseason workouts. But he's done it all without a contract. Allar is the only member of the Steelers 2026 draft class who hasn't signed his rookie contract. This will be a problem if it isn't resolved by the start of training camp because league rules state Allar cannot practice if he isn't under contract. It would behoove Allar to get that deal done in the next month so he doesn't lose any more ground to second-year quarterback Will Howard in the quarterback position battle. Howard has looked sharp in minicamps while Allar is having his lower body mechanics retooled by new head coach Mike McCarthy. Lost time at training camp will do Allar no favors if he wants to push for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Time running out for Steelers rookie Drew Allar to avoid being a problem0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMilan eye €45m Hjulmand as Amorim looks to reunite with his Sporting captainMilan eye €45m Hjulmand as Amorim looks to reunite with his Sporting captainRuben Amorim wants to bring Morten Hjulmand to Milan this summer, with the Danish midfielder identified as the ideal profile to anchor the midfield in his new 3-4-2-1 system, and the player is available at a significant discount on his €80 million release clause.Hjulmand joined Sporting Lisbon from Lecce for €20 million in the summer of 2023 and has since become one of the club’s most important figures, being handed the captaincy and nearly tripling his market value. His development at Sporting was shaped largely by Amorim himself, making the reunion angle a powerful one as the Portuguese coach begins his Milan project, as per CalcioMercato.PARMA, ITALY – NOVEMBER 08: Samuele Ricci of AC Milan during the Serie A match between Parma Calcio 1913 and AC Milan at Stadio Ennio Tardini on November 08, 2025 in Parma, Italy. (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)Sporting’s promise to Hjulmand could unlock €45m Milan deal as Ricci considered ‘at-home’ alternativeThe key financial detail is a private agreement Hjulmand reached with Sporting twelve months ago, in exchange for agreeing to stay in Lisbon for another season, the club promised to let him leave in 2026 for a preferential fee of €45 million rather than the full release clause. That promise now puts Milan in a potentially strong position, though the fee remains a significant outlay for a club without Champions League revenue.Tactically, Hjulmand represents a fundamental shift from Allegri’s low-lying playmaker to a more transitional, ball-winning regista, precisely what Amorim’s high-pressing system demands.Samuele Ricci, who spent the vast majority of his career operating as a more defensive-minded midfielder rather than a mezzala, is also being considered as the ‘at-home’ solution for the Rossoneri.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCyclists tackle 200-mile dawn-to-dusk challengeThe 2026 event was Chase the Sun's biggest ever with more than 1,200 cyclists [John Nurden]More than 1,200 cyclists have set off from Kent on their way across England in an attempt to follow the sun on one of the longest days of the year.As part of the Chase the Sun event, cyclists set off from Minster on the Isle of Sheppey as the sun was rising and were hoping to arrive in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, about 200 miles (322km) to the west, as the sun set at about 21:30 BST.Olly Moore started the annual event, which many take part in for charity, after he set out with two friends in 2008 to see how far they could cycle on the summer solstice."You have to remember that this is a ride, not a race. It is about enjoying the riding and taking in the countryside," he said.Sunday marks the summer solstice - the official start of astronomical summer across the northern hemisphere, and the longest day of the year. However, Chase the Sun, which now also has courses in both the north of England, Ireland and Italy, was held a day earlier."It is a unique experience, and the riders aren't doing it alone," Moore explained."It's a collective who come together with a shared goal." Moore said he chose Minster as the starting point in 2008 as he could see the sun rising over the sea and track it across the country."Ocean to ocean, sunrise to sunset, east to west - that's why we are here," he said.Follow BBC Kent on Facebook, X, and on Instagram and listen to BBC Radio Kent on Sounds. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Bears center Logan Jones is among most underrated rookiesThe Chicago Bears were dealt a surprising blow when Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman announced his shocking retirement at 27 years old, which forced them to pivot at a key position in Ben Johnson's offense. That included using a second-round pick to land Logan Jones, the first center selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. It was the second move made at center after Dalman's retirement. Shortly after the news, the Bears traded for New England Patriots center Garrett Bradbury, a long-time NFC North veteran to serve as a stop-gap solution. But they doubled down in the draft with the selection of Jones, who they believe will the long-term answer for quarterback Caleb Williams. It's uncertain whether Jones will see the field as a rookie, with Bradbury on the roster for one year, but he'll get a chance to compete for the starting job this summer. Even if he doesn't win the job as a rookie, ESPN's Jordan Reid believes Jones is one of the five most underrated rookies heading into 2026, where it's all about the long game. The sudden retirement of Drew Dalman left a huge hole at center for the Bears in the long term. Chicago traded for Garrett Bradbury to be its presumptive starter in 2026, but he'll be a free agent after the 2026 season. Jones could be the centerpiece of Chicago's O-line in 2027 and beyond. With the arrival of Johnson as head coach, the Bears overhauled the interior offensive line with All-Pro Joe Thuney, Dalman and Jonah Jackson, who joined right tackle Darnell Wright on what became a top offensive line in the league. Replacing Dalman won't be an easy task, but the Bears have two capable players in Jones and Bradbury, including the young rookie who could prove to be the long-term solution.Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and InstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears' Logan Jones among most underrated rookies in 20260 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCarlos Sainz Reportedly Eyeing an Audi Move as Williams 2026 Season Hits a WallThe road from Ferrari to Williams was supposed to lead somewhere. Right now, it’s leading nowhere near the points. Rumors of a potential Carlos Sainz exit from Williams have now intensified, and the name being floated as a possible destination is one that passed on him before: Audi.Sources suggest Sainz is naturally disillusioned with the problems Williams is facing in 2026 and is actively considering his options.Given where the team currently sits, that’s not a surprising conclusion to reach. After helping Williams to fifth in the 2025 Constructors’ Championship and raising real expectations for the new era, the 2026 season has instead become a nightmare. The team missed the opening pre-season test following development delays and arrived at the first race with an overweight and uncompetitive FW48.James Vowles has now admitted that the team won’t realistically be fighting at the front until 2028 or later, and after seven rounds, Williams are already 251 points adrift of Mercedes.Unfortunately for the Spaniard, Williams has become less of a rebuilding project and more of a waiting room.Former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer said:“I imagine Carlos is keeping a good eye on what’s going on at the front of the field. This isn’t what he signed up for. Williams have been incredibly disappointing so far.”David Coulthard argued that Sainz “has gone from Ferrari winning grands prix to Williams being happy scoring points” and is almost certainly scanning the horizon for what comes next.Audi Wanted Him Then, and Apparently Still DoesWhen Sainz was a free agent heading into 2025, it was Williams that beat out Sauber, which would have had him joining the team’s transition into the Audi project, to secure his signature.Audi had reportedly made him a lucrative offer at the time, but Sainz had doubts about how competitive a brand-new power unit programme could be from day one, and Williams looked like the safer, faster bet. In 2025, that logic held up fine. In 2026, it’s looking a little shaky.Audi’s F1 project chief Mattia Binotto has admitted to trying to lure Sainz to the German outfit, according to Planet F1, a reminder that the interest from that side of the paddock was and apparently remains genuine. But with its drivers still in contract, the issue is purely just time.Audi has made a reasonable start to 2026, which makes the comparison with Williams’s struggles even more pointed for Sainz. The door at Audi isn’t wide open, though. Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto are both under contract through 2027, meaning any move would be a conversation about 2028 at the earliest rather than an immediate rescue mission.Sainz has said he believes Vowles’ target of fighting the top teams by 2028 is “realistic,” but the question is whether that timeline matches his own career ambitions. That’s a very polite way of saying he’s not sure he wants to spend two more years at the back of the grid waiting for a car that might arrive when he’s already 34.Sainz’s manager has also reportedly approached Red Bull, given the uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen‘s long-term future there, which suggests the Audi angle is one of several conversations happening in parallel rather than a done deal. What makes this more than a routine contract rumor is the combination of genuine talent going to waste and a manufacturer that has already shown its hand. Audi wanted Sainz once. Williams isn’t making the case for why they should stop wanting him now.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMC.J. Stroud among 3 NFL breakout fantasy candidates from the AFC SouthThe Jaguars, Texans, Colts, and Titans have a combined 10 players inside the top 80 overall ADP. These guys are, of course, must-draft options. But who are some under-the-radar breakout candidates? With Michael Pittman Jr. now in Pittsburgh, the Colts’ wideout corps probably will be a two-man operation. The team has pieced together a supporting cast that includes Ashton Dulin, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and seventh-round rookie Deion Burks. This reality gives Josh Downs a huge opportunity to bust out. Downs owns a WR47 / overall-105 ADP. Only two years ago, he was the WR31 in points per game. The 24-year-old is primed to surprise. Are any managers all in on C.J. Stroud? Maybe some. Not a lot, and that’s okay. Injuries to him and his receivers have undercut his career, which looked incredibly promising after his impressive 2023 rookie campaign. His QB22 / overall-135 ADP assumes that Malik Willis (QB21), Tyler Shough (QB20), and others will outshine him. I disagree. Stroud is a great young quarterback surrounded by talented receivers. He has a better shot at top-12 production than Willis, Shough, and at least a dozen other starting QBs.Finally, don’t sleep on Gunnar Helm (TE25 / overall-183 ADP). Last year’s fourth-round rookie gobbled up most of his targets and came on strong in the second half of the season, compiling a combined 25-160-1 receiving line in Weeks 11-15. Cam Ward owned a sterling 105.8 passer rating when looking his way. There’s a clear path for Helm to hit 55-550-3, which last year would have placed him in the top 16.This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: C.J. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMProven veterans fuel New York Giants' promising 2026 offensive outlookThe New York Giants will enter the 2026 campaign with a multitude of weapons on the offensive side of the football.New York signed veteran Darnell Mooney to a one-year deal this offseason, adding an instant boost to the Giants’ wide receiver room. Mooney spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, where the veteran served as the team’s WR2 behind Drake London.Additionally, the Giants will begin the season with one of the most promising backfields in the NFL. Star running back Cam Skattebo is expected to enter the year fully healthy after suffering a season-ending ankle injury in 2025, while fellow halfback Tyrone Tracy Jr. will look to shine as well. Both Mooney and Tracy reportedly played at an extremely high level during New York’s spring practices. Giants analyst John Schmeelk recently shared his thoughts on the duo’s production, stating they helped themselves more than any other offensive players.I'm going to go with two veterans who have already proven themselves to be good NFL players: wide receiver Darnell Mooney and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.With injuries to Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton and Cam Skattebo, Mooney and Tracy were shifted into the spotlight for the majority of the summer and were able to show this new coaching staff what they can do. Mooney was consistently productive while Tracy showed his ability in both the run and pass games.Mooney has recorded 4,028 yards and 17 touchdowns across his first six seasons with the Chicago Bears and the Falcons. Tracy has continued to flash elite potential over the first two years of his career, and the talented running back could quickly emerge as a star in 2026 considering Schmeelk’s report. The duo will undoubtedly play a critical role in the Giants’ offense this season. Mooney is a talented veteran who should have no problem developing a consistent connection with star quarterback Jaxson Dart, while Tracy now finds himself in prime position for a true breakout year in 2026.This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Proven veterans fuel New York Giants' promising 2026 offensive outlook0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMESPN skeptical about breakout 2025 campaign for Panthers' new free-agent additionThere's been no shortage of criticism for the Carolina Panthers and the massive contract they gave edge rusher Jaelan Phillips in free agency. To make a long story short, Phillips—who has yet to amass more than 8.5 sacks in a season—is going to have to produce like a true star in order to justify the $120 million investment that they have made.Conversely, the takes on linebacker Devin Lloyd's contract have been overwhelmingly positive. But now, we have a new angle from Ben Solak at ESPN—who seems to doubt that Lloyd's breakout year in Jacksonville will carry over to Carolina.Solak writes:Lloyd certainly played with better physicality last season, but his breakout 2025 seems more related to his role than his actual improvement. After he spent four seasons with the Jaguars, the Panthers gave $45 million over three years to Lloyd, and defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero now needs him to be a three-down, off-ball linebacker that makes those sideline-to-sideline plays. Carolina does not have the depth at linebacker to specialize Lloyd's role the way Jacksonville did... Lloyd played better in 2025, but not as well as his production would indicate. This is a blip year -- and it won't be the only one at the top of the linebacker market, as recent big contracts are aging poorly at this changing position.Yikes.If Phillips' big deal winds up being a bust it will undoubtedly sting. But if Lloyd's contract also ages poorly, it will represent a devastating failure in free agency from general manager Dan Morgan.Hopefully for Morgan, Solak's concerns are off-base, and Lloyd will be able to fill the more traditional inside linebacker role that the Panthers need from him. His Pro Bowl campaign in 2025, where he tallied career-highs in pressures (25) and interceptions (five), should inspire hope.Make no mistake—Carolina needs Lloyd to thrive as a pass rusher, in coverage and in run defense if he's really going to transform this unit from an average one into a (potentially) great one.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers LB Devin Lloyd's 2025 season deemed a 'blip' by ESPN analyst0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTottenham to demand £115m for Micky van de Ven as Barcelona and Liverpool show interestTottenham to demand £115m for Micky van de Ven as Barcelona and Liverpool show interestTottenham Hotspur are braced for bids for Micky van de Ven, who is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Liverpool.According to Mundo Deportivo, Spurs have slapped a whopping £115 million asking price on the Netherlands international in a bid to ward off potential suitors. The 25-year-old centre-back has three years left on his contract with Spurs, but speculation about his long-term future has dominated the headlines.Tottenham have tried to secure his long-term commitment by opening talks over a new contract, but negotiations have stalled in recent weeks.Despite the situation, Tottenham are reluctant to part ways with Van de Ven, who is seen as a key part of the club’s long-term plans under new manager Roberto De Zerbi. While Van de Ven is reluctant to pledge his allegiance to the club, Tottenham are still in a strong negotiating position and will demand an earth-shattering fee to let go of one of their captains.Van de Ven has grown into one of the most highly regarded centre-backs in European football since joining Tottenham, drawing interest from several top clubs.Former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has described Van de Ven as ‘one of the best in the world’, and his performances for the club have caught the eye over the years. After being part of a Spurs side that finished 17th in back-to-back Premier League seasons, Van de Ven is reportedly ready to jump ship this summer. He wants to take the next step in his career and would welcome the opportunity to join either Liverpool or Barcelona, who seem to be the most interested.Tottenham’s asking price will ward off Barcelona, who are looking to invest their summer budget wisely after finding some semblance of financial stability.Liverpool may be looking to test the waters later in the transfer window, especially after losing Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid on a free transfer. However, any deal for Van de Ven will likely set a new world record transfer for a defender, eclipsing Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester United.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrian Schottenheimer reveals plans to unlock a new dimension of George Pickens' gameBrian Schottenheimer reveals plans to unlock a new dimension of George Pickens' game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.George Pickens, playing on a $27.3 million franchise tag after Jerry Jones declined to pursue a long-term extension following his first season in Dallas, skipped all voluntary OTAs this spring on his agent's advice. But when mandatory minicamp opened June 16, Pickens was on the field at The Star. No holdout, no fines, no noise. He showed up and put the contract dispute narrative to rest for now. Now, head coach Brian Schottenheimer is ready with a plan. And that plan is going to give NFC defenses something else to worry about. In 2025, his first year with the Dallas Cowboys after being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Alabama native had one of the best statistical seasons of any receiver in the NFL. He caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, earning All-Pro honors. Pickens did almost all of it from the outside X receiver spot, ranking 90th out of 91 qualified receivers in slot snap percentage at just 10%. This year, coach Brian Schottenheimer wants to diversify his role. At the close of minicamp, Schottenheimer told reporters that the team plans to move Pickens around the formation rather than keeping him static on the outside. "As we talk about evolving, I would say the biggest thing we're doing is we want to move George around more," Schottenheimer said. "He's not just going to live at X. He doesn't like that anyways. We want to put him in the slot some. We want to get him isolated some to the front side, the same side as the tight end."This alignment flexibility creates tough decisions for opposing defenses. When Pickens lines up in the slot, defensive coordinators must decide whether to match him with a linebacker or drop a safety down to cover him. Paired with CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys now have two elite wide receivers who can win matchups from anywhere on the field.Schottenheimer was also blunt about the tactical arms race around Pickens' slant game and what comes next. "You guys basically tried to stop our slant game because he was so good at slants, and you guys kept asking me about it every week. So everybody kept jumping inside and making it hard on us," he told reporters. "That's the biggest thing — how do we complement the things that we know he is so good at... He's a fun tool to mess around with."The league spent a year scheming to take away one thing. The Cowboys spent the offseason building three more.More NFL news: Jerry Jones faces unwelcome advice as 6× Pro Bowler urges George Pickens to take different routeCowboys ended minicamp early, but several questions remain unansweredDallas Goedert explains decision to remain with Philadelphia Eagles in free agencyChristian Parker's message on Caleb Downs should terrify NFL offensesTwo Philadelphia Eagles stars among NFL's top merchandise sellers0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMVikings named fit for QB Brendan Sorsby in NFL Supplemental DraftThe Minnesota Vikings have been viewed as a quarterback-friendly organization since Kevin O'Connell was hired in 2022. Kirk Cousins was playing at an MVP level in 2023, and Sam Darnold saw his career finally take off in O'Connell's system in 2024.There is optimism that O'Connell can help Kyler Murray rediscover his early-career magic in 2026, and the organization believes that J.J. McCarthy can take another step in his own development as well. But could the Vikings still try adding another quarterback? With Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby poised to enter the NFL's Supplemental Draft next month, there is speculation that Minnesota could be an ideal landing spot for him. Sorsby will have to prove he is past his gambling habits, but his physical talent is undeniable. Had he not had the off-field issues, he could have potentially been a first-round pick in next year's draft.ESPN's Ben Solak dove into Sorsby's game, and he lists the Vikings as the third-best fit for the Texas Tech QB.Minnesota is secure at QB for 2026, as Kyler Murray is in town on a one-year deal to refurbish his career and right Kevin O'Connell's sinking ship. If Murray is a successful veteran quarterback, the Vikings will be faced with the same question they answered last offseason, when they let Sam Darnold sign a deal with the Seahawks to give J.J. McCarthy the reins of the offense. With Sorsby in the building for all of 2026, O'Connell could get a long look at his potential as a QB1 challenger in 2027 should Murray play his way into a bigger deal elsewhere. While the Vikings' offense isn't a one-for-one fit for what Sorsby did in college, he saw some translatable concepts (especially rollouts). It'd be fascinating to see the dynamic of Minnesota's quarterback room with Sorsby in the fold. He wouldn't be counted on to play in 2026, but what message would his inclusion send to Murray and McCarthy, who have each already publicly expressed some sort of frustration with their own competition this summer? We'll see if the Vikings even put in a bid for Sorsby in the draft. But if they do secure his rights, they may provide one of the best situations for him. This article originally appeared on Vikings Wire: Texas Tech's Brendan Sorsby named fir for the Vikings0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBradley Barcola: Arsenal’s plan to beat Man United to PSG star explainedBradley Barcola: Arsenal’s plan to beat Man United to PSG star explainedManchester United risk missing out on Bradley Barcola as Arsenal prepare to strike first in a red-hot race for the 23-year-old forward, according to a new report.PSG open the doorThere are few clubs in Europe who could boast a player as talented as Barcola in their ranks, yet consign him to the bench rather than making him an undisputed starter – but Paris Saint-Germain are no ordinary team. Led by the brilliant Luis Enrique, the Ligue 1 giants successfully defended their Champions League title last month, beating Arsenal on penalties in the final in Budapest – a victory for football as much as for France.Their frontline – comprised of Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, and French starlet Desire Doue – is as fluid as it is fantastic, racking up an impressive 23 goals in Europe alone. But the triumphant trio leave little room for Barcola to carve out a consistent spot for himself, despite a scintillating campaign in 2024/25 that saw him return 21 goals and 21 assists across all competitions. This season has been a wildly different experience for the France international, with only 20 goals and assists combined. He failed to start either the semi-final or the final of the Champions League. There is a growing sense that if the Lyon academy graduate is to realise his full potential, he must do so as the main man away from the Parc des Princes, which has put a number of suitors – including the Red Devils – on red alert over a summer swoop.Arsenal ready to strikeA report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed United had held initial talks with Barcola’s representatives to gauge interest, though virtually every top European side is understood to have also been contacted.Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Napoli are said to be in the hunt alongside United – a reflection of how highly rated the Frenchman is.Ideally, PSG would like to extend Barcola’s contract, which runs until 2028. But his willingness to explore an exit has led the Parisian side to consider offers, with a valuation set in excess of €100 million (£87 million).United are on the hunt for a new left winger this summer, though the priority is a major revamp in midfield. This makes PSG’s demand a prohibitive one, as INEOS are focusing the bulk of the budget on fixing Michael Carrick‘s stalling engine room.Furthermore, Arsenal are preparing a “bid worth around €80 million” (£70m), according to Caught Offside, as the Gunners look to build on last season’s success, which saw Mikel Arteta lead them to their first Premier League title in 22 years. While this falls below the price set in the French capital, it is a statement of intent that Barcola will take notice of and is likely to simply be the opening gambit in a protracted negotiation for one of the potentially biggest transfers of the window.Final ThoughtsWhile Barcola would be an outstanding addition to United’s attacking unit, capable of rotating with Matheus Cunha on the left or playing through the middle instead of Benjamin Sesko, the midfield rebuild will leave little in the bank to be able to compete with the likes of Arsenal. That explains the recent interest in West Ham star Crysencio Summerville, who is valued at less than half what PSG are demanding for their French wing wizard. A move for Barcola has simply come a summer too early for INEOS’s long-term plan.Featured image Stuart Franklin via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Dvalishvili’s comments come in the aftermath of his close friend and fellow Georgian Ilia Topuria’s (17-1) lightweight title loss against Justin Gaethje at UFC White House earlier this month. Topuria appeared supremely confident leading up to his title defense against Gaethje at the White House. “El Matador” had repeatedly predicted a first-round knockout win, even celebrating with a party a day before the fight. However, Gaethje bloodied up Topuria, forcing his corner to throw in the towel at the end of the fourth round.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMShould Buccaneers be among teams doing homework on QB Brendan Sorsby? The Buccaneers do not have an immediate quarterback crisis, but Baker Mayfield’s contract situation gives Tampa Bay a reason to at least study Brendan Sorsby as one of the most intriguing supplemental draft cases in years.Mayfield remains the face of the Buccaneers’ offense and is coming off another productive season, but his long-term future is not settled. Speaking publicly for the first time this offseason, Mayfield said extension talks with Tampa Bay “are not anywhere close to what we were thinking” and made it clear that he wants something done before training camp begins in late July. Mayfield said that once camp starts, contract discussions will stop and his full focus will shift to football. That creates an interesting backdrop for Sorsby, the former Cincinnati and Texas Tech quarterback who has applied for the NFL supplemental draft after an NCAA eligibility issue tied to sports betting. Cincinnati coach Scott Satterfield told ESPN that every NFL team had already asked about Sorsby, especially earlier in the year when it appeared he might enter the regular NFL draft before transferring to Texas Tech. If every team has done some homework, the Buccaneers have almost certainly gathered information as well.Sorsby’s talent makes the evaluation worth having. He threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions last season while rushing for 580 yards and nine more scores. In 2024, he completed 64% of his passes for 2,813 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, while adding 447 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. Satterfield described him as a talented quarterback with size, mobility, and passing ability, traits that would normally make him one of the more interesting developmental options in any draft cycle. The complication is significant. Sorsby was ruled ineligible by the NCAA after it discovered he placed more than 9,000 bets totaling at least $90,000 on professional and college sports over four years while enrolled at Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech. That included at least 40 wagers involving Indiana football when he was a freshman with the Hoosiers in 2022. He has also entered treatment for a gambling addiction, making his evaluation as much about maturity, accountability, support structure, and league scrutiny as it is about arm talent. For Tampa Bay, the football question is tied to timing. Mayfield is entering the final year of the three-year extension he signed in 2024. His current $100 million deal averages $33.33 million annually, which ranks 16th among quarterbacks, and he wants long-term security after throwing for 3,693 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 2025 while adding 382 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also expressed excitement about the Buccaneers’ skill-position group, including Jalen McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, Tez Johnson, and rookie Ted Hurst, reinforcing that he still views Tampa Bay as a place where he can win.The Buccaneers should still want to resolve Mayfield’s deal if they believe he is their long-term quarterback. He has stabilized the franchise, earned the locker room’s trust, and given Tampa Bay legitimate direction after arriving at a turning point in his career. But quarterback planning often requires teams to think beyond the current starter, especially when extension talks are not close, and the player has set a training camp deadline for negotiations.Sorsby would not have to arrive as a threat to Mayfield. He could be viewed as a developmental quarterback with physical tools, dual-threat ability, and upside who could sit, learn, and rebuild his reputation without immediate pressure to play. The supplemental draft also gives teams a different kind of opportunity. Selecting Sorsby would cost a corresponding pick in the 2027 NFL draft, so Tampa Bay would have to decide whether his talent is worth sacrificing future draft capital. That is where the risk becomes real. Sorsby is not a clean prospect, and the gambling concerns are serious. Teams must consider competitive integrity, future availability, and the public reaction to investing in a quarterback whose college career was disrupted by betting violations. The Buccaneers would need to be fully comfortable with their background work before making any bid.Still, Mayfield’s contract uncertainty makes the Sorsby conversation more relevant in Tampa Bay than it might be for teams with settled long-term quarterback rooms. Due diligence does not mean the Buccaneers will act. It does mean they would be doing their job by studying every possible path for quarterbacks.Mayfield is still present in Tampa Bay. Sorsby would be a complicated bet on the future. With training camp approaching and Mayfield’s extension talks unresolved, that is enough to make the Buccaneers a logical team to monitor as the supplemental draft process unfolds. This article originally appeared on Bucs Wire: Bucs have reason to study Brendan Sorsby before the supplemental draft0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains keen to strengthen his attacking options at the Emirates Stadium club as the Gunners prepare for next season. Summerville had an impressive World Cup debut against Japan last week, weighing in with a goal to help the Netherlands to a 2-2 draw. West Ham want €50 million for the winger but his transfer market value has skyrocketed in recent days and a top performance going forward in the tournament will be good news for the Hammers. However, Arsenal will face competition from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for his services. The North London club want attacking firing power as they look to defend the Premier League title next season and go one better in the Champions League. Summerville has the experience and quality the Gunners need, but 24-year-old could prefer joining a club where he is guaranteed regular playing opportunities. He is expected to leave West Ham following their relegation to the Championship, and remaining in the English top-flight will appeal to him.0 Comments 0 Shares 1 Views 0 Reviews
