WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMDeSantis drops LGBTQ and Latin people from remarks on Pulse anniversaryNine years after a gunman opened fire on Latin Night at the gay Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) dropped any reference to LGBTQ+ or Latin people from remarks on the anniversary of the shooting. The 49 victims who died in the attack were mostly gay and Latin people. Related The City of Orlando plans to purchase Pulse nightclub site & finally turn it into a memorial There have been several failed attempts to turn the site of the massacre into a space that honors the 49 people who were killed. In his previous statement recognizing the shooting on June 12, 2016, DeSantis called it a horrific act of terrorism against the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today This years statement instead throws a spotlight on the attacker.Nine years ago, on June 12, 2016, a shooter claiming alliance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant committed a horrific act of terrorism at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, DeSantis said, in an order lowering state flags to half-mast for the day.It was a remarkable show of callous disregard for the victims, their families, and survivors, as DeSantis embraces the erasure of LGBTQ+ and non-white identities in government and society, an agenda promoted by the Trump administration. The blatantly racist and homophobic omission comes as families and survivors visit the site of the massacre before its demolition. The demolition will make way for a long-troubled memorial to the victims. Those plans have been plagued by dysfunction.A foundation created to shepherd the project closed down two years ago after raising $20 million, most of which went to foundation employees. The COVID-19 pandemic and disagreements over a memorial design further delayed progress. In February, the city released a conceptual design created by an advisory committee of 18 survivors, family members, and community leaders that has been roundly panned. The concepts included a memorial and reflection space, a survivors tribute wall, a private gathering space for personal reflection, a walkway with columns honoring the 49 victims on rainbow glass panels, a healing garden, and a visitors center and gift shop. While releasing the overwrought concept, the city made a point to say admission to the memorial will be free, underlining its appeal as a possible tourist site. Former Pulse patron Zachary Blair, co-founder of the grassroots groupPulse Families and Survivors for Justice, said his group believes the citys current memorial design is too garish. Its too touristy. Its not a somber, reflective, dignified space where families and the public can come to pay their respects, he told CNN.Christine Leinonen, another co-founder of the Blairs group who is also the mother of the shooting victim Christopher Andrew Leinonen, agreed. She said the memorial plans have spun out of control and away from respect for the victims.Shed be happy with an outdoor memorial park with trees and a walking path. The current design isnt a fitting tribute to those we lost that day, she said.We want a simplified, dignified, free, easy space, Leinonen. A place where people can stop by while they are out walking. Lets not take a mass shooting and make it into your form of collecting tourist dollars, she said of city leaders. Brandon Wolf, who survived the Pulse shooting by hiding in a bathroom and now serves as national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign, said its past time for the Pulse family to have a respectful, permanent place to pay their respects.I am looking forward to a space that is worthy of the memory of my best friends, he said, one where I can feel close to them and reflect on why we have to continue doing the work to honor them with action. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMoms for Liberty honored this GOP Rep. He was just arrested for kiddie porn.Moms for Liberty (M4L), the anti-LGBTQ+ extremist hate group, reportedly honored South Carolina state Rep. RJ May as their 2023 Legislator of the Year and had him speak at their 2022 event on Reclaiming Education in America. May was just arrested this morning over nearly a dozen federal charges for distributing child sex abuse material he has a wife and child.Mays indictment is notable since M4L regularly seeks to ban LGBTQ+-inclusive childrens books as a form of pornography and regularly accuses LGBTQ+ people and their allies of grooming children for sexual abuse, a decades-old claim that inspires hatred and violence against queer people and their supporters. Because some of the images featured children the same age as his own child, prosecutors recommended he be held without bail until his trial. Prosecutors also allegedly found videos on his laptop of him having sex with three underage girls from Colombia, none of whom were his wife. May allegedly used an account on the social media platform Mega to send messages to these girls that consisted largely of arranging meet up dates, time, price negotiations, and rules regarding the videoing of sexual encounters, all of which are indicative of sex work, the court indictment against him stated.Mays lawyer has claimed that investigators found no child sex abuse images on Mays laptop and that prosecutors failed to link each allegedly incriminating Kik message directly to May. Nevertheless, if convicted, May could spend over a decade in prison. congrats to RJ May for receiving a special award from Moms For Liberty South Carolina for "excellence in distributing child pornography" pic.twitter.com/kQs6yIWDKk crunchyrugger (@crunchyrugger) June 12, 2025In 2024, May, who was the co-chair of the states ultra-conservative Freedom Caucus until they kicked him out over the kiddie porn charges, compared Medicaid funding for gender-affirming care to the state paying for lifestyles like drug addiction. We as legislators have an obligation to insure that our children have no harm done to them, Maysaid during a House floor debate on the bill.In their court filing, prosecutors wrote, If [May] can hide this criminal activity from [his wife who] he shares a bedroom with, then he can easily hide it from any court enforcement mechanism. Furthermore, there is evidence that he has recently traveled to South America to engage in commercial sex, again presumably without his wifes knowledge that he ever even left the country. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMConservative Christians freak out over Kroger being a good place for LGBTQ+ people to workThe perpetually outraged anti-LGBTQ+ organization One Million Moms (OMM) has condemned Kroger supermarkets for allegedly pushing its woke and liberal agenda onto families and conservative shoppers by offering Pride-related merchandise and having LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace policies. In a new petition urging Kroger to stay neutral in the culture war, OMM which only has 108,000 social media followers on Facebook and X notes that Kroger has been honored by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality because of the companys perfect score on the HRCs 2025 Corporate Equality Index, a ranking of companies LGBTQ+-inclusive workplace policies. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMTennessee AG says its Gods will for him to deny health care to trans youthAt the Southern Baptist Convention this week in Dallas, Texas this week,Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti (R) said its Gods providence that landed him as defendant in the landmark Supreme Court case United States v. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMChildrens hospital caves to Trump, ends care for nearly 3,000 trans patientsOn Thursday, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) announced the pausing of its transgender youth healthcare program, citing insurmountable pressure from the Trump administration. In emails reviewed by The Los Angeles Times, the hospitals Center for Trans Youth began telling its nearly 3,000 patients families about its upcoming closure. Related Largest-ever survey of trans people reveals the real reason trans people detransition Conservatives say many trans people later regret their transitions. Thats untrue, but here are the facts Were just disappointed and scared and enraged, stated Maxine, the mother of a current patient, who declined to give her last name for fear of attacks on her son. The challenge is how we break news to this kid who has had such a positive experience with everybody at Childrens. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The emails state there was no viable alternative that would allow the hospital to continue specialized care. There is no doubt that this is a painful and significant change to our organization and a challenge to CHLAs mission, vision, and values, hospital executives wrote to staff in a Thursday morning email. The center will close on July 22, and the emails say the decision follows a lengthy and thorough assessment of the increasingly severe impacts of federal administrative actions and proposed policies.Executives have determined that continuing to operate the center would jeopardize the hospitals ability to care for its hundreds of thousands of patients, noting the continual attacks by federal agencies, including the Department of Justice, Health and Human Services, Medicare and Medicaid Services who have been issuing numerous threats towards doctors and hospitals providing gender-affirming care for trans youth, including threats of prosecution. These threats are no longer theoretical, the note said. Taken together, the Attorney General memo, HHS review, and the recent solicitation of tips from the FBI to report hospitals and providers of GAC strongly signal this Administrations intent to take swift and decisive action, both criminal and civil, against any entity it views as being in violation of the executive order. The hospitals Trans Youth Center is among the oldest and largest programs in the country and the only facility to provide puberty blockers and other gender-affirming care for trans youth on public insurance. But because the hospital is significantly more reliant on public funding than other pediatric medical facilities in California, it is particularly vulnerable to the actions and de-funding threats of the Trump administration. The severity is exacerbated even more when taking in account that 40% of pediatric beds in Los Angeles are at this hospital.CHLA has a responsibility to navigate this complex and uncertain regulatory environment in a way that allows us to remain open as much as possible for as many as possible, executives wrote. In the end, this painful and difficult decision was driven by the need to safeguard CHLAs ability to operate amid significant external pressures beyond our control. This isnt the first time this year however, that CHLA has announced that itll no longer provide gender-affirming services. On February 4, CHLA declared that it would stop providing hormonal therapy to transgender people under 19 in the wake of President Trumps executive order threatening to cut funding from hospitals treating trans patients under 19.This decision was met with protests, as hundreds gathered outside the childrens hospital in East Hollywood. The hospital reversed its decision a few weeks later when a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking Trumps Executive order. After that, California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) issued a statement saying the hospitals cancellation of gender-affirming care violated the states Equal Protection laws. Let me be clear: California law has not changed, and hospitals and clinics have a legal obligation to provide equal access to healthcare services, Bonta said.Bonta has yet to respond to this current attempt to leave thousands of transgender patients without proper healthcare. Activists say this closure sets a dangerous precedent to other hospitals being pressured to cave by the current federal administration.CHLA needs to be a leader in this and stand up to the Trump administration, because other hospitals are taking note of what theyre doing, said Maebe Pudlow, a trans nonbinary activist who helped organize the February protests. It feels very conveniently timed when everybodys focus is on [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] raids happening in Los Angeles, the activist went on. I think its despicable.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 28 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMI am ashamed: Closeted MAGA Christian singer confesses to sexually abusing younger menThe Christian rock world is reeling after multiple investigations, social media accusations, and an admission titled My Confession on Instagram that have brought down Christian rock band singer Michael Tait.Tait, the longtime front man for iconic Christian rock band Newsboys, allegedly led a double life of drug and alcohol abuse and sexually abusing young white men, according to separate investigative reports by Christian media outlet The Roys Report (TRR) and The Guardian. Related Caitlyn Jenner was set to be the guest of honor at Tel Aviv Pride. They just canceled Pride. Israel fears Iranian retaliation for their attacks this week. Taits behavior had been Nashvilles worst-kept secret for decades when TikToker Azariah Southworth made a viral post in January claiming the singer was gay. This decision does not come lightly and has been a shock to even myself, but amidst prayer and fasting, I have clarity that this is the right decision.Since then, multiple men, all who said that they were in their early 20s when they met Tait, have come forward to say he abused them. Conservative news outlets described his alleged behavior as grooming, a term that means building a relationship with someone to sexually abuse or manipulate them. Two men stated that they were drinking alcohol with Tait and later woke to him fondling their genitals, according to The Roys Report. One alleged that Tait also offered him cocaine while on the Newsboys tour bus.The third toldTRRthat Tait gave him a back massage while skinny dipping and later invited him to share his king-size bed. There, Tait allegedly non-consensually massaged his anal region. Its not an exaggeration to say that for many evangelical teens who came of age in the nineties, the Newsboys were a core part of their evangelical Christian experience, Leah Payne, professor of American religious history at Portland Seminary, told TRR. Theyve really had a second life that gives voice to American conservatism. The Newsboys hit song Gods Not Dead became an anthem for the MAGA movement and has long been in rotation at Trump rallies. Tait laid hands on Trump in prayer with other evangelical leaders at the King Jesus International Ministry church in Miami in January 2020.Before the Newsboys, Tait, a Liberty University alum, was one of three bandmates in another Christian rock supergroup, DC Talk. That band earned four Grammys and a description as the Beatles of Christian music for one of Christian rocks most enduring singles, Jesus Freak. In his confession posted two days ago, Tait said he was already on a path to healing from his sin.He quoted King Davids prayer of repentance: Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMarjorie Taylor Greene demands Alex Padilla face charges after begging for pardons for Jan 6 riotersRep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who spent years calling for the January 6 insurrectionists to not face any consequences for their violent attempt to stop Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 election that resulted in the deaths of five people and left nearly 200 police officers injured is demanding Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) face prosecution for trying to ask an administration official questions.I think he should be charged. He should be prosecuted, she said on NewsNation, a conservative news network. She did not explain why she believed he was attacking people when the videos of the incident didnt show that.He should be arrested, she said. No one is above the law.Greene supported the pardons of the January 6 insurrectionists and even said it was absurd for people to think that they should face prosecution for their attack on the Capitol, where they called for the death of Mike Pence and set up a makeshift gallows to execute him as he presided over the Senate before the Secret Service escorted him to safety. All of yalls obsession with January 6 is absurd, Greene said earlier this year. Everybody up here has their panties in a wad. Theyre pardoned and thank God. Democrats have stood up for Padilla. The Trump government has crossed one of the reddest of red lines that can exist in a free society, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on social media of the arrest. Any salute to the flag or talk of patriotism or American greatness is completely hollow if you do not respect the freedoms that that flag represents, the Constitution that directs the course of this country, and theyve shown what they think of those freedoms and that Constitution.California Gov. I quietly and politely said to him that I am trans and that I dont feel safe to use the male toilets at this time, and that I do have a right to use the unisex ambulant toilet. He responded by laughing in my face, saying he doesnt care, and pointing and demanding I use the males. At that point, I became visibly upset and angry. WWW.PRIDE.COMFletcher breaks silence on 'Boy' discoursehasn't been 'changed by a man'Sapphic singer Fletcher sent a shockwave through her fan base last week with the release of her new single, "Boy."The song, from Fletcher's upcoming album, Would You Still Love Me If You Really Knew Me?, is about falling in love with a man and being afraid to tell her community and fans about it. The discourse started immediately. While some fans were being biphobic, others pointed out that the timing of the song's release during the first week of Pride month felt like Fletcher was "coming out" and saying it's scary to let the world know that you, as a woman, are attracted to men.Others felt that the song invited pity and sadness, rather than celebrating a new love in her life. Other fans who had felt seen and represented by Fletcher's career of songs about women felt like they were mourning the loss of a parasocial connection they had to the singer. Now, Fletcher has responded to all the discourse. @fletcherIn a new TikTok video, the singer addressed some of the things being said about her new song and new era.Fletcher emphasized that sexuality and queerness are not a phase, her queerness is not a phase, and that she will always love women, "whether I am with a guy or a girl, or just a human being that I love." She further explained that the song was not released to "center a relationship around a man, it was to center the complexity of the queer experience, of my queer experience, and the nuance of it.""I am fully aware that it is not brave, and it is not scary to share with the world at large about a straight-passing heteronormative relationship in this political climate, in this world that we are in right now" Fletcher clarified. "What felt scary for me was sharing with my community and my world, where people have only experienced and known me a certain way. I felt really nervous that I would let people down, and that I would disappoint them, and that my queerness wouldn't be queer enough."She also explained that archiving her Instagram is a normal thing for her to do when she starts a new era of music."I have not been changed by a man. I have not been healed by a man. I am not more evolved for being with a man. I just so happened to fall in love with one, and I wrote a song about it," she said. Many commenters still feel that this is not enough."Nahhh cuz the way I deleted all her music immediately. Like men. Date men. Who cares. The timing and the merch is gross. Built a career on the backs of lesbians and bi women just to do this. Tragic," one fan wrote in a comment with over 2,000 likes."This made me feel 0% better," another wrote in a comment with over 3,000 likes. "Love a crisis PR response," said a third, in a comment with over 4,800 likes. (@) Fletcher made a second TikTok addressing her "Boy" merch, which she has now deleted. In that TikTok, Fletcher said "I did not make this sh*t for heterosexual people." Instead, she says she was thinking of "trans guys and trans masc people and nonbinary people and gender nonconforming people, and girls who call their girlfriend 'boyfriend.'" She also pointed out that 100 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the merch go to Trans Lifeline. On her website, it is unclear if proceeds go to Trans Lifeline just during June, or if that will continue after June 30.Some fans didn't believe this reasoning."I call bullshit. The song has nothing to do with the trans community or nonbinary people. Show me one line of the lyrics. Just donate to trans lifeline and buy a better shirt. This was a publicity stunt," a listener wrote on Reddit."I wrote a song about being in a heteronormative relationship with a boy.' 'The corresponding merch is not for heterosexual people or that boy. Its for trans people DUH.' Excuse me damn," commented another.0 Comments 0 Shares 29 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COMRene Rapp called white gays insufferable, including herselfRene Rapp has never pretended be demure, but her recent appearance on Ziwe proves she is not one to beat around the bush. The singer and Mean Girls actress sat down for a rapid-fire interview filled with queer-coded chaos. The host said she was sort of unhinged and asked if she had any media training to prepare for her next press tour, and Rapp admitted that people have tried but it didnt really stick. She also noted that shes cycled through a number of publicists because of it.See on InstagramPerhaps because of her lack of media training, it was her blunt comments about white gays that hit hardest, especially because she included herself in the callout. And just when we thought we couldn't love her more. Six minutes in, when asked if she cared less about gay rights or womens rights, Rapp immediately said gay rights, explaining, The more gay you are, the more homophobic you become. When Ziwe asked what exactly makes being gay homophobic, Rapp replied, without hesitation, People like me. White gays. Were ruining everything. She further doubled down when asked to define a white gay by calling them insufferable and entitled, ending it with a simple read stating, Myself.See on InstagramThe segment struck a nerve not just for its memeable energy, though there was plenty of that, but because Rapp managed to articulate a cultural dynamic with disarming ease. In a queer landscape where white LGBTQ+ folks often dominate the narrative, Rapps self-aware humor landed like a wink and a gut punch at once.To be clear, the rest of the interview was still classic Ziwe territory. Rapp gleefully chanted dyke on a three-count, demonstrated lgbt gang signs, and declared she was pro-violence when it came to white women misbehaving in grocery stores. But the moment she admitted her own audience is largely made up of white gays and a ferocious bunch of Black and brown girls who are willing to say, shut the fuck up,and that she loves watching that beef unfold onlinethe interview went from unfiltered to unmistakably sharp. Its not easy to roast your core demographic without coming off ungrateful or out of touch. But Rapp pulls it off because she knows exactly who she is and why people are watching. She's not apologizing. Shes just making sure everyone else in the room can take a joke, too.Check out the full interview below:Be sure to follow Rene Rapp and Ziwe on Instagram.0 Comments 0 Shares 28 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.PRIDE.COM22 joyful pics of the 2025 Provincetown Pride Rally & Sashay to TeaProvincetown, Massachusetts, has been an LGBTQ+ haven ever since 1899, when Charles Hawthorne founded the Cape Cod School of Art. It gained traction in the 1920s as a place of "relative freedom and acceptance" and has only grown more accepting ever since.Although we've taken ten steps backward thanks to the current administration, 2025 proved the city was just as gay with its Pride Rally and "Sashay to Tea" event that culminated in a dance party at the Boatslip.Provincetown started encouraging businesses and entertainers to come out of the closet in the 1950s, but the Stonewall Riots led the town to explode with activism and visible queer expressions of art, which led to this year's parade being "structured in the Spirit of Stonewall."Hosted by Austin Tyler and Mackenzie, the event included performances by Tori McClain and Qya Cristl, with state Senator Julian Cyr making a speech to help remind the masses why it's so important to be proud of our LGBTQ+ community every day, even despite Provincetown assuring that every day is Pride. The streets were packed with energy, as is displayed in the 22 photos below. While you're scrolling, be sure to check out photographer Julia Comes on Instagram @juliacumes to see more of her amazing work. How many of these Pride facts did you know? WWW.PROPUBLICA.ORGTrump Administration Abandons Deal With Northwest Tribes to Restore Salmonby Tony Schick, Oregon Public Broadcasting This article was produced for ProPublicas Local Reporting Network in partnership with Oregon Public Broadcasting. Sign up for Dispatches to get our stories in your inbox every week. Less than two years ago, the administration of President Joe Biden announced what tribal leaders hailed as an unprecedented commitment to the Native tribes whose ways of life had been devastated by federal dam-building along the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest. The deal, which took two years to negotiate, halted decades of lawsuits over the harm federal dams had caused to the salmon that had sustained those tribes culturally and economically for thousands of years. To enable the removal of four hydroelectric dams considered especially harmful to salmon, the government promised to invest billions of dollars in alternative energy sources to be created by the tribes. It was a remarkable step following repeated failures by the government to uphold the tribal fishing rights it swore in treaties to preserve. The agreement is now just another of those broken promises. President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Thursday pulling the federal government out of the deal. Trumps decision halted a government-wide initiative to restore abundant salmon runs in the Columbia and Snake rivers and signaled an end to the governments willingness to consider removing dams that blocked their free flow.Thursdays move drew immediate condemnation from tribes and from environmental groups that have fought to protect salmon. The Administrations decision to terminate these commitments echoes the federal governments historic pattern of broken promises to tribes, Yakama Nation Tribal Council Chair Gerald Lewis said in a statement. This termination will severely disrupt vital fisheries restoration efforts, eliminate certainty for hydro operations, and likely result in increased energy costs and regional instability. The governments commitment to tribes, however, had been unraveling since almost when the deal was inked.Key provisions were already languishing under Biden. After Trump won the presidency, his administration spiked most of the studies called for in the agreement, held up millions of dollars in funding and cut most of the staff working to implement salmon recovery. Bidens promise to seriously consider the removal of dams gained little traction before it was replaced by what Trumps energy secretary, Chris Wright, called passionate support for keeping them in place. The chair of the White House task force to implement the agreement quit in April because of what he saw as Trumps efforts to eliminate nearly everything he was working on.Federal agencies who were on the hook to do the work were being destroyed through untargeted, inefficient and costly purges of federal employees, Nik Blosser, the former Columbia River Task Force chair, told ProPublica and OPB. When I left, most things were on hold or paused even signed contracts were on hold, which is a disgrace.Trumps White House announcement called the Biden administrations commitments onerous and said the president continues to deliver on his promise to end the previous administrations misplaced priorities and protect the livelihoods of the American people.President Trump is committed to unleashing American energy dominance, reversing all executive actions that impose undue burdens on energy production and use, the announcement read. But the decision could also have some unintended consequences, experts say.Trump signed an executive order in April to restore American seafood competitiveness but in revoking the Columbia River agreement has canceled millions of dollars to support the programs that seed the ocean with fish to catch. He signed a separate executive order on his first day in office to unleash American energy dominance but has now reversed a commitment, made under the Biden salmon deal, to build new sources of domestic energy. This weeks action has sent federal agencies back to court, where judges have repeatedly shackled power production at hydroelectric dams because of its impact on the endangered fish. Its tempting to comment at length on the absurdity of the Presidents order, including the fact that what he says he wants stability for power generation is in fact put more at risk by this action, Blosser wrote in a post on LinkedIn. Instead, Ill look for inspiration to the mighty salmon, who dont stop swimming upstream when they get to a waterfall.Back to CourtBefore they began negotiating the Columbia River Basin agreement in 2021, federal agencies had been losing in court over the hydropower system for more than 20 years. Judge after judge ordered the federal government to use less water for making electricity and instead let more of the river spill through the dams floodgates so that fish could more safely ride the current past them. The accord with states and tribes guaranteed up to a decade without those lawsuits. Trump canceled that. The Bonneville Power Administration, which sells the hydroelectricity from federal dams, had more at stake than the rest of the agencies in the deal. When the government signed it, Bonneville Administrator John Hairston said it provided operational certainty and reliability while avoiding costly, unpredictable litigation in support of our mission to provide a reliable, affordable power supply to the Pacific Northwest. In its most recent annual report, Bonneville credited the agreement for giving it the flexibility to increase hydropower production during times of high electricity demand, which helped stem the losses in an otherwise difficult financial year.A major component of the agreement was the acknowledgment of the regions dependence on hydropower and the need to build new sources of energy before removing the dams. It offered no guarantee of dam removal. The Biden White House had pledged to help tribes develop enough renewable energy sources to replace the output of four dams on the Snake River, which salmon advocates have long wanted to remove. The administration also planned an analysis of how to meet the regions energy needs without sacrificing salmon. The Biden administration never followed through. Even tribally backed energy projects that were already in progress ran into bureaucratic quagmires. When Trump took office and slashed thousands of jobs from the Department of Energy, the commitment for new energy sources died too.Proponents of Columbia River dams, including the publicly owned utilities that buy federal hydroelectricity, criticized the Biden administration for leaving them out of the negotiations that led to the agreement.I want to thank the President (Trump) for his decisive action to protect our dams, Rep. Dan Newhouse, a Republican from Central Washington, said in a statement on Thursday. He said the Biden administration and extreme environmental activists would have threatened the reliability of the power grid and raised energy prices with dam removal.Even critics of the Biden deal, however, acknowledge they do not want the issue to return to court, where judges orders have driven up electricity rates. When Bonneville cant generate as much hydropower to sell, but still has to pay for hatcheries and habitat fixes for salmon, it has to charge utilities more for its electricity. Im hoping that we avoid dam operations by injunction, because that doesnt help anybody in the region, said Scott Simms, executive director of the Public Power Council, a nonprofit representing utilities that purchase federal hydropower.Earthjustice attorney Amanda Goodin, who represents the environmental advocates who signed the agreement, said the Trump administrations actions would force a return to courts. The agreement formed the basis for the stay of litigation, Goodin said, so without the agreement there is no longer any basis for a stay.More Fish Will DieThe White House said that Trumps revoking of the Columbia River deal shows that he continues to prioritize our Nations energy infrastructure and use of natural resources to lower the cost of living for all Americans over speculative climate change concerns.Shannon Wheeler, chair of the Nez Perce Tribe, said the damage on the Columbia River is anything but speculative. This action tries to hide from the truth, Wheeler said in a statement. The Nez Perce Tribe holds a duty to speak the truth for the salmon, and the truth is that extinction of salmon populations is happening now.Wild salmon populations on the Columbia and its largest tributary, the Snake River, have been so sparse for decades that commercial, recreational and tribal subsistence fishing are only possible because of fish hatcheries, which raise millions of baby salmon in pens and release them into the wild when theyre old enough to swim to the ocean. In some years, an estimated half of all the Chinook salmon commercial fishermen catch in Southeast Alaska are from Columbia River hatcheries, making them critical for restoring American seafood competitiveness as Trump aimed to do.But some Columbia River hatcheries are nearly a century old. Others have been so badly underfunded that equipment failures have killed thousands of baby fish.As ProPublica and OPB previously reported, the number of hatchery salmon surviving to adulthood is now so low that hatcheries have struggled to collect enough fish for breeding, putting future fishing seasons in jeopardy. The Biden administration promised roughly $500 million to improve hatcheries across the Northwest. His administration never delivered it, and Trump halted all the funds before eventually canceling them with this weeks order.Mary Lou Soscia, former Columbia River coordinator at the Environmental Protection Agency, said the administrations dismantling of salmon recovery programs amounts to cutting off your nose to spite your face. Were losing decades of accomplishments, said Soscia, who spent more than 30 years at the agency. When the fish managers arent there to make real time river decisions, more fish will die, she said. Or the watershed restoration work will take a lot longer to happen because you wont have funding and more fish will die.0 Comments 0 Shares 64 Views 0 Reviews

THEONION.COMFBI Warns Second California Senator Still At LargeWASHINGTONEmphasizing that the threat against Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem remained active and ongoing, the FBI issued a statement Friday warning that a second California senator was still at large. While Alex Padilla has been safely taken into custody, we urge the public to be on the lookout for an additional, extremely dangerous senator from the same state who remains able to voice opinions if given the opportunity, said an FBI spokesperson, who displayed a composite drawing of an older man in a navy blue suit and explained that the sketch had been based on eyewitness descriptions of the fugitive senator. These types of politicians tend to work in pairs, and this individual should be considered highly trained in rhetoric and public speaking. Do not respond to any fundraising texts this person may send you. Alex Padilla (D-CA). We expressgratitudeto law enforcement for bravely apprehending a sitting U.S. senator who expressed dissent in a public forum, read the resolution, which won the support of 75 Democrats and praised both FBI and Secret Service agents for risking their lives to throw Padilla to the ground, handcuff him, and drag him outside. Thankfully, they were able to stop the senior senator from California before he could ask any difficult or probing questions onbehalf of his constituents. THEONION.COMKristi Noem: Sen. Padilla Had Even Deadlier Opinion That Failed To Go OffLOS ANGELESStressing that she had significant reason to fear for her life during yesterdays confrontation, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters Friday that she believed Sen. Alex Padilla had an even deadlier opinion that failed to go off. We found this individual possessed a second, far more lethal string of words locked and loaded, and Im terrified to think how the situation would have shaken out if hed been able to say even one of them aloud, said Noem, adding that the California senator clearly had been honing his convictions for days or even weeks before he used them at her news conference. Thanks to the brave intervention of federal agents, we were able to detain the senator before he expressedthis other highly dangerous belief, but if things had progressed differently, its very likely I wouldnt be standing here today. Let me put a finer point on it: If this man had spoken just one more sentence to me, I would almost certainly be dead. At press time, Noem released evidence from a raid of Padillas home that suggested he had a lengthy history of expressing such deadly opinions in writing and in person. The post Kristi Noem: Sen. Perhaps proving that the shows themes were lost on him, the president told a reporter on the red carpet Wednesday night that he wasnt sure whether he identified more with its hero, Jean Valjean, or with its villain, Javert. Ticket buyers, subscribers, and donors have spoken with their wallets, one staffer told the Washington Post last week. Not against a Republican being in charge, but against the hostile takeover of their performing arts center.Sure enough, videos from opening night of Les Mis showed rows and rows of empty seats inside the theater.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 31 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMHey right-wingers: You can try, but LGBTQ+ Pride cant be canceled!Pride which is celebrated throughout the month every June means different things to different people. For some, its a celebration of hard-won rights and recognition for LGBTQ people. For others, its a party: a chance to see and be seen. For many in our older generation, Pride has to do with the resilience and determination it took to make it through some pretty tough times. Related The GOP is hopping mad after a city outsmarted its Pride flag ban PLUS: Pedro Pascal prances to Todrick Halls gayest song ever. Basically, were proud we survived all the s**t thats been thrown our way. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Honestly, most of us thought the worst of those hard times were behind us, at least in the United States.Alas,it was not to be.But if people think the open hostility of the Trump administration to LGBTQ+ people and our concerns means our community will now roll over and play dead, they know even less about us than we thought.Since the two of us left the United States at the end of 2017, weve now celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride all over the world. In Istanbul, which used to have the largest Pride parade in the Islamic world, Pride is now banned. Despite that, brave activists still march, using social media alerts to evade the police pursuing them with water cannons and tear gas.In 2021, we joined them, and when the police finally caught up with us, we got tear-gassed right along with everyone else. Things were better the following year in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. But there was enough local opposition to LGBTQ+ rights that the Pride Parade was confined to a three-block stretch, carefully guarded by security. But remember what we said about resilience and determination? The celebration was unstoppable, and Sarajevo ended up being one of the most moving Prides weve ever attended.Last year, we were in Oslo, Norway for Pride, and the event was a joyous, city-wide celebration seemingly without any controversy at all. It made a nice change after Istanbul and Sarajevo.(But sadly, two years before, a man killed two people and seriously wounded nine others in anattack on Oslo Pride, proving that hate knows no borders.) In our travels, weve visited lots of other places where LGBTQ+ visibility is common, like Reykjavik, where the Rainbow Street, known locally as Sklavrustgur, celebrates Pride year-round.And London, where we visited Leadenhall Market, which stood in for Diagon Alley in one of theHarry Potterfilms. From 2021 to 2023, it hosted an installation showing the evolution of the Pride flag perhaps a subtle dig at J.K. Rowlings increasingly unbalanced anti-trans views. On the other hand, in many of the other places weve visited, weve seen no signs of LGBTQ+ visibility at all. The more repressive and anti-democratic a place is, the more likely this is to be.Which brings us back to America, which is definitely now at a crossroads when it comes to the treatment and visibility of its LGBTQ+ residents.Yes, yes, it was such a sick burn by the Trump administration to proposerenaming the S.S. Harvey Milk a ship named after the famous civil rights leader during Pride Month. And also to ban the flying of Pride flags on government buildings, and toopenly pressure corporationsto end their sponsorship of Pride events. And, yes, the administration is now encouraging other countries to harass and intimidate their LGBTQ+ citizens too, includingbanning their Pride events. This is having a real impact on this years Pride, with many events already canceled.Sure, they can cancelevents, but do these people really think they can cancel Pride?Have these folks honestly never watchedHow the Grinch Stole Christmas?Just like Christmas isnt about packages, boxes, and bags, Pride isnt about floats, music, and glitter. Its about a feeling ofpride, God damn it!Well, maybe its about prideandglitter. Because the world always needs a little bit of glitter now more than ever.Anyway, just like the Grinch couldnt stop Christmas from coming, Donald Trump and his minions cant stop Pride from coming either. The forces of ignorance and repression couldnt stop it in Istanbul or Sarajevo, and they cant stop it in America either. Its June, and news flash: It came! Somehow or other, it came just the same! And now Pride is here.Celebrate it andfeelit.Happy Pride, Everyone! And heres hoping for better times ahead. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMRiley Gaines claims that Olympic icon Simone Biles groveled to herAnti-trans activist Riley Gaines is bragging about how Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles apologized to her in their days-long social media disagreement over trans rights.Earlier this week, Biles apologized to Gaines for getting personal in her comments to Gaines where Biles defended trans peoples participation in sports. Some of those comments included telling Gaines that shes truly sick and that shes as big as a man. Related An anti-trans MAGA influencer tried to insult Simone Biles. It didnt go well for him. Charlie Kirk decided to insert himself into someone elses feud, but he didnt quite have the zinger he thought. That is, Biles did not change her opinion on the issue and just apologized for her personal insults. But Gaines ran to Fox News to claim it as a win on the merits. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today I accept her apology. I see this truthfully as a really big win, Gaines said on Fox News. You have this really famous public figure who is now issuing a groveling and backtracks after, again, tweeting pro-trans propaganda, if you will, this scenario would have been unthinkable a year, certainly two years ago.Whether its sincere or not, I think thats a different question, but nonetheless, she learned we are not living in 2020 anymore, Gaines concluded. The mention of 2020 is likely a reference to the protests that occurred after George Floyd died that year, which many conservatives see as the high point of progressivism. Gaines: I accept her apology and see this as a really big win. You have this famous public figure now issuing a groveling public apology and backtracks after tweeting pro-trans propaganda, if you will. pic.twitter.com/RVE34hiYEK Acyn (@Acyn) June 11, 2025Over the weekend, the iconic gymnast called Gaines out after Gaines bullied a high school girls softball team for allowing a trans girl to play with them. Biles replied with disdain, telling Gaines, Youre truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead You bully them One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!Gaines expressed hurt, saying that it was so disappointing that Biles wouldnt take her side in mocking the high school students. Its not my job or the job of any woman to figure out how to include men in our spaces, she said. You can uplift men stealing championships in womens sports with YOUR platform. Men dont belong in womens sports and I say that with my full chest.Simone then responded, bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male. This week, Biles apologized. Ive always believed competitive equity & inclusivity arebothessential in sport. The current systemdoesnt adequately balance these importantprinciples, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didnthelp for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for. These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly dont have the answers or solutions to,but I believe it starts with empathy and respect, Biles continued.I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in womens sports. My objectionistobe singlingout childrenfor public scrutinyinways thatfeelpersonal and harmful.Individual athletesespecially kidsshould never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system they have no control over.Biles has won 11 Olympic medals over the course of her career. Gaines tied for fifth place with a trans woman at a college swim meet and built a career on her resentment for having to share the spot with her.On X, people noted that Biles apology was not groveling and was only about Biles personal attacks, not an admission that Gaines was right on the larger issue. Some people argued that this is why there is no sense in apologizing to people like Gaines, who earn a living demonizing historically oppressed minorities. She gets in a Twitter spat w the greatest female athlete of all time who apologized for getting too personal and the next day shes being showcased on Fox News as a heroThis is what were up against. The money and power behind the anti trans movement is massive. What can we do? https://t.co/ohriSCw9PP stacy (@stacycay) June 11, 2025 Because there is no media outlet that cares about trans people as much as the right wing outlets do.
