SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArizona freshman Koa Peat makes 2026 NBA Draft decisionFormer Arizona forward and likely first-round pick Koa Peat made a decision on his future Wednesday night, choosing to remain in the 2026 NBA Draft. Although Peat's draft stock was said to have slipped following the NCAA Tournament and the combine, Peat is still expected to be a first-rounder due to his size, youth and athleticism alone.Last season for the Wildcats, Peat averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.6 steals. Currently, ESPN ranks Peat 20th on their draft big board. However, a recent mock draft conducted by NBA insider Brett Siegel has Peat going No. 27 overall to the Boston Celtics. Earlier in the year, Peat was said to be a top-10 or possibly a top-five prospect, but those reports died down well before the draft combine, where Peat showcased glaring shooting inefficiencies.Looking ahead to next year, Peat will have a prime opportunity to land with a contender near the end of the first round, giving the 19-year-old plenty of time to develop and adjust to the NBA level. This article originally appeared on Rookie Wire: Koa Peat makes final decision on 2026 NBA Draft0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

As bad as that end bit is, it might actually be a blessing in disguise for Xabi Alonso and his Chelsea players as it means no regular midweek games in Europe to effect fatigue and risk more injuries. They will have more time to build something, but less excuses to use if things went wrong yet again.EXCLUSIVE! SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGreatest of all-time? Stanford stakes its claim after latest NCAA Women's Golf titleCARLSBAD, Calif. — Throughout the dozens of individual wins and team trophies, the bad taste lingered. Stanford is no stranger to success. The Cardinal are arguably the greatest dynasty in women's college golf history, in the midst of a historic run that has seen the team win more titles than teams lost to since the 2020-21 season. Yet a loss to Northwestern in last year's championship match never went away. Paula Martin Sampedro and Andrea Revuelta were frustrated with how the team performed in that championship match. They knew how good their team was. They felt the Cardinal not only should've won but dominated. Anything less was unacceptable. That's why the junior and sophomore duo from Spain called a team meeting after the Augusta National Women's Amateur. It was before Stanford began its postseason run. Martin Sampedro and Revuelta didn't mince words with their coach and teammates. They wanted excellence. "There was like no reason why we shouldn't be winning every match play event," Martin Sampedro said. "So we kind of thought and dived deep into what are thoughts were and like how things played out in the past and how we could have gotten better."Added Revuelta: "We're clearly pretty good at stroke play. So that was a thought that was just building up within the players. We just talked about the little things that could be better."Those little things are what has separated Stanford from the rest of college golf in recent years, and it's a big reason the Cardinal are back on the mountaintop.No. 1 Stanford knocked off second-ranked USC 4-1 in the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Championship match Wednesday at Omni La Costa in a match that was never really in doubt. A string of early USC errors took away any chance the Trojans had, as Stanford capitalized on nearly every shortfall and took advantage of nearly every opportunity.Martin Sampedro earned the first point, topping USC star senior Catherine Park 3 and 2. Seconds later, sophomore Meja Ortengren polished off a 6-and-5 triumph. Then, fittingly, senior Megha Ganne capped an incredible career with a 4-and-3 win over Bailey Shoemaker, ending the match on the 15th green, the same hole former Stanford standout Rachel Heck clinched the championship match two years ago.The championship is Stanford's third in the past five years. The Cardinal have also won the stroke-play portion of the NCAA Championship six straight years. It's the fourth title in school history, with the latest coming 11 years to the day since the first one. And this team may have been coach Anne Walker's best."I don't know what other people will be saying, but they're going to live on in Stanford golf as the greatest of all-time, and you know, I feel like there's a strong possibility that it's the greatest team I ever coached," Walker said. "So really, really lucky to be in this position, be around these type of people."Walker mentioned how her team never felt the need to avenge last year's upset loss against Northwestern. But the team knew it needed to be better in match play this year. In the 2025-26 season, Stanford lost to more teams in match play (2) than stroke play (1). hence the player-led conversation after ANWA."Truly made me emotional because it was so impressive, it was so heartfelt, so just the love for the program and the love for each other," Walker said. "They wanted to be at their best this week, and so just that it was motivation."We've talked a lot all season about being brilliant at the basics, and that's what they anchored in, and that's what they did."All five Stanford players also competed in last year's championship match. The two seniors, Ganne and Kelly Xu – the latter who celebrated a birthday Wednesday – were dominant in match play in their careers and leave with two championships, but it was Sampedro and Revuelta who took initiative to push Stanford to get uncomfortable because that's where the most growth comes from. The cruised through the ACC Championship, winning their first title, and finished first at the NCAA Stanford Regional and then again in stroke play this week. The Cardinal didn't lose a match during Tuesday's longest day of college golf. Wednesday figured to be a battle. The top-two seeds and highest-ranked teams in the country facing off, but even with star power on both sides, Stanford's focus was set weeks ago. "Last year here at La Costa was a lot to swallow personally," Revuelta said. "But you know that was fuel the second I left here. We were really disappointed, but we knew we had done our everything that we left our heart and souls in this golf course last year. We didn't leave this with the trophy, but we were ready to come back. It was fuel, and just like being humble and acknowledging the fact that there is room for improvement."Although stroke play doesn't determine the champion in college golf, no men's or women's team has ever done what Stanford has accomplished in the NCAA era: win six straight stroke-play titles. One thing's for certain: in the deepest era of women's college golf, Stanford remains ahead of the competition, and it's leadership from players like Martin Sampedro and Revuelta that has been passed down through the years."You don't get to Stanford by not working hard and knowing how to be disciplined and knowing how to put in long days," Walker said. "I'm just very fortunate that these players, the character that they have it carries over once they get to Stanford, and I think that's allowed us to have sustained success over the last, you know, 10 or 11 years."Greatest team Walker has ever coached? It may be the greatest team of all-time.This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Stanford wins 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Championship at Omni La Costa0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 K League 2 Round 14 Preview2026 K League 2 Round 14 PreviewRound 14 of the K League 2 season brings together several of the division’s form teams as the race for promotion and playoff places continues to intensify. With confidence growing across the league and several clubs beginning to find their identity, this weekend’s fixtures could prove another important turning point in the season.Match of the RoundGimhae host Gimpo eyeing back-to-back wins Round 14 sees Gimhae FC 2008 host Gimpo FC. Gimhae claimed their long-awaited first K League win in their most recent outing against Jeonnam Dragons, while Gimpo come into the match unbeaten in their last three games with two wins and a draw.Gimhae had endured a difficult start to the season prior to the Jeonnam match, recording two draws and nine defeats. With just eight goals scored and 27 conceded, the balance between attack and defence had also been a major issue. To make matters more difficult, head coach Son Hyun-jun stepped down, meaning the Jeonnam match was overseen by assistant coach Choi Myung-sung.However, the South Gyeongsang side looked far more organised under the interim setup. Defensively, Choi Jun-young and Yeo Jae-yul added much-needed stability, while goalkeeper Choi Pil-soo produced several crucial saves to guide the team to a 1-0 clean sheet victory. Gimhae’s concentration stood out as they protected a lead earned through an opposition own goal until the final whistle.Gimpo, meanwhile, have also been enjoying a steady run of form. Due to renovation work on their home pitch, they have been forced to begin the season with 12 consecutive away matches, with only this trip to Gimhae remaining. Despite the demanding schedule, Gimpo have posted five wins, five draws, and two defeats, proving difficult to break down.In their most recent match against Paju Frontier, Gimpo secured a 1-0 win thanks to Kim Sung-jun’s late winner in a tightly contested game. Their recent improvement has been credited to a shift away from their traditionally defensive approach, increasing possession while making better use of their physical strengths. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides. With Gimhae looking to build momentum after their first victory and Gimpo aiming to push further up the table, an intense contest is expected. Gimhae and Gimpo meet on Saturday the 30th at Gimhae Sports Complex.Team of the RoundA back-in-form Daegu FCSpring has returned to Daegu. After an inconsistent start to the season, Daegu FC have successfully turned the tide thanks to a recent upturn in form. The Sky Blues' campaign did not begin with blue skies. They appeared to be building momentum with three straight wins after the opening round, but then stumbled with two draws and three defeats in their next five matches. Defensive instability was a particular concern. Operating with a back four, Daegu repeatedly dropped points late in matches. In Round 8 against Cheonan City, they conceded twice in stoppage time to suffer a frustrating defeat.Recently, though, the atmosphere around the club has changed completely. Under new head coach Choi Sung-yong, Daegu are unbeaten in four matches with three wins and a draw, climbing to fifth place in the standings.Perhaps the biggest positive has been their renewed defensive solidity, keeping clean sheets in three of those four matches. In their most recent outing against Ansan Greeners, Daegu also demonstrated their attacking quality by scoring three goals. Alongside the regular starters, substitutes such as Park Ki-hyun and Edgar Bruno have also made strong contributions. Overall, Daegu are beginning to look far more balanced at both ends of the pitch.Riding this momentum, Daegu travel to Yongin FC this round. Yongin are also unbeaten in their last three matches with one win and two draws. The two sides meet on Saturday the 30th at Yongin Mireu Stadium.Player of the RoundHwaseong's supersub Sava PetrovHwaseong FC's rise shows no signs of slowing down. They have recorded five wins and two draws from their last seven matches, climbing to fourth place in the table. Head coach Cha Du-ri’s tactics and leadership, combined with the squad’s strong winning mentality, have helped maintain their impressive run. Sava Petrov’s recent performances have been central to that surge.Hwaseong produced a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Chungbuk Cheongju in Round 13. Trailing 2-1 until the 80th minute, Petrov completely changed the game.Introduced in the 56th minute in place of Kim Byung-oh, Petrov equalised in the 80th minute with a header from a Demethryus cross. Then, just before full time, he struck again with another header from a corner to complete the comeback.Petrov’s greatest strength has been his remarkable efficiency in front of goal. Despite mostly appearing as a substitute, he has already scored seven goals and currently leads the league scoring charts. Six of those seven goals have directly contributed to victories, underlining his value as a decisive finisher.Starting with a brace against Gimhae in a 2-0 win, Petrov then scored the winner against Jeonnam in a 1-0 victory and followed that with another winning goal in a 3-2 win over Busan. Against Chungbuk Cheongju, he delivered both the equaliser and the winner in another 3-2 comeback triumph. With Petrov leading the charge, Hwasong now aim to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches as they host Gyeongnam FC this round. Gyeongnam are also in strong form after overturning a two-goal deficit to beat Suwon FC 3-2 in their previous match, extending their own run to two wins and a draw from the last three games. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBraves radio host warns major $20M decision looms for struggling Ha-Seong Kim as concerns growBraves radio host warns major $20M decision looms for struggling Ha-Seong Kim as concerns grow originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Braves picked up Ha-Seong Kim off waivers last September for the final month of the season. During that short stretch, Kim showed flashes of what he could do when healthy. That brief run with Atlanta proved enough for the Braves to bring him back during free agency. Kim later signed a $20 million contract with the club.“Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim is returning to the Atlanta Braves, agreeing Monday to a one-year, $20 million contract that addressed a major offseason priority for the team. Kim gets a $4 million raise. He had declined a $16 million player option that was in the two-year, $29 million contract he signed in February with Tampa Bay, a deal that paid him $13 million. The Braves announced the new deal with Kim on Monday night,” ESPN wrote. After signing the deal, Kim injured his wrist after slipping on ice. He has now been back for a couple of weeks, but he still has not gotten going offensively. Going hitless on Wednesday marked his third consecutive game without a hit.“Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves has gone hitless in three consecutive games. Kim Ha-seong started as the eighth-numbered shortstop in an away game against the Boston Red Sox,” The Chosun Daily’s OSEN wrote. With Kim continuing to struggle and the offense lacking production from the bottom of the lineup, Braves radio host Chris Dimino made it clear that the organization may soon have to have an internal discussion regarding the shortstop position.“Sounds like the Braves may be approaching a crossroads with Ha-Seong Kim. The belief internally may still be there, but if this continues another couple weeks, it feels like a legitimate ‘what are we doing at shortstop?’ conversation is coming,” Dimino said. There is no denying that Kim has had a difficult time at the plate. Earlier in the season, Atlanta’s offense was clicking, but recently it has started to cool off. It becomes much harder for an offense to stay productive when the eighth and ninth spots in the lineup are struggling to get on base consistently. The Braves are paying Kim more than enough money to produce offensively. Meanwhile, Jorge Mateo and Mauricio Dubón have both shown they are capable of handling the shortstop position if needed. The unfortunate part for Atlanta would be the financial loss tied to moving away from Kim so quickly. Still, if the struggles continue, the decision may eventually become unavoidable.More MLB news:Dodgers predicted to acquire $32M 2-time Cy Young winner to supercharge World Series rotationDodgers' Freddie Freeman admits retirement timeline has shortened for heartwarming family reasonBraves could trade for $100M Silver Slugger to fill Jurickson Profar void, create MLB best outfieldGiants' Tony Vitello praises Tennessee coaching staff and roster as NCAA Tournament looms0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Centuries will keep happening’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s message after missing fastest IPL hundredFifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again left the cricketing world stunned after his breathtaking 97 off just 29 balls helped Rajasthan Royals knock out Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator. The teenage sensation smashed 12 sixes during a jaw-dropping innings that nearly saw him break Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest century in IPL history. But despite the records, milestones and Player of the Match award, Sooryavanshi insisted his focus remains firmly on helping Rajasthan Royals win the trophy. Speaking after the match, the young opener revealed that he prefers not to overthink situations and instead focuses only on playing the game in front of him. “(Do you celebrate the happiness or is it more like ‘what’s gone is gone, now think ahead’?) When we win, we just take the positive intent forward and move on to the next match. And we try to win the next match in the same way and reach the finals.” Even after producing one of the greatest innings ever seen in an IPL playoff match, Sooryavanshi admitted he keeps his thinking simple before games. “(What’s your mindset going into the next game?) I do think a little bit, but not too much. I just try to play the game I’m in and not overthink. But if I feel there’s something I need to work on, then I look at that.” The RR opener also opened up on the amount of preparation that goes into his fearless batting approach. Despite only being 15, Sooryavanshi explained that he carefully studies opposition bowlers, the pitch and boundary dimensions before going out to bat. “(Tell us about your preparation before the match.) I just think about who the bowlers are in the opposition team, how I can face them on this wicket, how big the boundaries are, just these kinds of things. I just try to stay positive with my intent. When I do that, the bowlers stay under pressure. So I try to continue that and dominate the game.” That positive intent completely overwhelmed the SRH bowling attack in Mullanpur. On a true batting surface, Sooryavanshi toyed with the likes of Pat Cummins and repeatedly launched the ball into the stands as the Australian captain and his leadership group desperately searched for answers. Anything pitched full was smashed straight back over the bowler’s head, while short deliveries disappeared over third man and fine leg with astonishing ease. The teenager eventually fell for 97 after getting caught at third man off Praful Hinge, narrowly missing out on what could have been the fastest century in IPL history. However, Sooryavanshi revealed after the match that he was not even aware of the record during his innings. “(On the ball he was dismissed, was he aware about the record?) I found out only after I got out. At that time, my only focus was to contribute as much as I could because centuries will keep happening, but right now the focus is on how to win the trophy.” The youngster also explained that he prefers concentrating on his own plans rather than worrying about what the opposition might be trying to do against him. “If I feel I’m having trouble somewhere, I work on that. I don’t think about what the opposition is planning, that’s their plan. I focus on what my plan is, and I just try to play normal cricket.” Even without the century, Sooryavanshi’s innings rewrote IPL history. He broke Gayle’s 14-year-old record for the most sixes in a single IPL season and now has a staggering 65 maximums in IPL 2026. At just 15 years old, Sooryavanshi continues to produce innings that feel almost impossible, yet the teenager himself remains remarkably calm, grounded and entirely focused on winning matches for Rajasthan Royals.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMESPN insider links Braves to $9.4M World Series MVP, Gold Glover as Ha-Seong Kim replacementESPN insider links Braves to $9.4M World Series MVP, Gold Glover as Ha-Seong Kim replacement originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Braves offense has cooled off over the past four to five days, which was expected at some point during the season. However, the most noticeable drop-off has come from the shortstop position, where Ha-Seong Kim has struggled to find his rhythm at the plate.Kim returned from injury just a few weeks ago, but he still has not fully turned things around offensively. If the slump continues, the pressure on him could quickly escalate.“Sounds like the Braves may be approaching a crossroads with Ha-Seong Kim. The belief internally may still be there, but if this continues another couple weeks, it feels like a legitimate ‘what are we doing at shortstop?’ conversation is coming,” 680 The Fan’s Chris Dimino said.Recently, ESPN insider Buster Olney joined 680 The Fan, where he discussed potential moves the Braves could explore. One name Olney mentioned as a possible target was 2022 World Series MVP Jeremy Peña.“If they were to put Jeremy Pena out there... You drop him in the middle of the Braves lineup, man, someone who’s going to be a free agent - I think that would be like a finishing piece for a Braves team that has high aspirations,” Olney said. The Braves have long needed a consistent two-way presence at shortstop. Peña’s World Series MVP came during his rookie season, and he is currently working his way back from a hamstring injury.“Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña joined the club on Wednesday in Baltimore as he continues his recovery from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain that landed him on the 10-day IL on April 12,” MLB.com’s Ian Quillen wrote.Peña would be a major addition for Atlanta, as the team simply needs more consistent production from the shortstop position. There is no question his defense would play at a high level, but it is his offensive upside that could help the Braves the most.Peña is currently on a $9.4 million deal and will go to arbitration after this season before becoming a free agent at the end of next year. Atlanta acquiring Peña would be a significant move and could make moving on from Kim a much easier decision if the struggles continue.More MLB news:Braves radio host warns major $20M decision looms for struggling Ha-Seong Kim as concerns growDodgers predicted to acquire $32M 2-time Cy Young winner to supercharge World Series rotationDodgers' Freddie Freeman admits retirement timeline has shortened for heartwarming family reasonBraves could trade for $100M Silver Slugger to fill Jurickson Profar void, create MLB best outfield0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMChelsea set £120m asking price for Enzo Fernández — reportLONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 19: Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on May 19, 2026 in London, England. (Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images) | Getty Images We’re still in the early stages of the Enzo Fernández saga, and though the inevitable outcome might be that Enzo leaves by the end of the summer, right now we’re setting up our defenses in a strong position.According to The BBC, Chelsea’s asking price for a transfer will be £120m, which is slightly more than what we paid Benfica three and a half years ago, and certainly more than the initial indications that we would be happy with simply breaking even on amortization. Of course, it’s not like £70-80m is chump change either, so the potential pool of new destinations will always be, naturally, very limited.Real Madrid is said to be Enzo’s “preferred option”, but the rumor mill has been fairly quiet on that possibility in recent weeks. Similarly, any notion of PSG getting involved seems more lazy speculation than anything rooted in any sort of reality. So that might leave Manchester City, but they appear to be prioritizing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson … at least for now: Enzo Maresca’s expected official appointment could help reverse that.Fernández does obviously have a very long-term contract with Chelsea still, good through 2032, but he wants Champions League football and he wants inow, in his prime. The pressure will be on to find a resolution that benefits all involved.🚨Chelsea will ask for £120m for Enzo Fernandez this summer. The Argentina midfielder is not actively for sale and remains part of the club’s plans. However, sources suggest he wants to leave and now needs to hit conditions to get out. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Baseball Closer Report: Josh Hader nearing return, Kenley Jansen departs with groin injuryIn this week's Closer Report, Josh Hader's season debut with the Astros is drawing closer as he wraps up his minor league rehab assignment. Gregory Soto is tightening his hold on the Pirates' closer role. And Kenley Jansen's status is worth watching after the veteran closer departed Wednesday's contest. All that and more as we break down the last week in saves.⚾️ Baseball is back! MLB returns to NBC and Peacock in 2026! In addition to becoming the exclusive home of Sunday Night Baseball, NBC Sports will broadcast MLB Sunday Leadoff, “Opening Day” and Labor Day primetime games, the first round of the MLB Draft, the entire Wild Card round of the postseason, and much more.Check out this week’s Stolen Base Report!2026 Fantasy Baseball Closer Rankings▶ Tier 1Mason Miller - San Diego PadresCade Smith - Cleveland GuardiansJhoan Duran - Philadelphia PhilliesAroldis Chapman - Boston Red SoxAndrés Muñoz - Seattle MarinersRaisel Iglesias- Atlanta BravesMiller made one appearance this week, striking out two in a clean inning against the Athletics on Saturday for his 16th save. It was the first time he didn't have to navigate baserunners over his previous five outings. With solid contributions from Jason Adam, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada, the Padres have collectively had one of the best bullpens in baseball.Smith locked down three more saves to give him an MLB-leading 19. The 27-year-old right-hander has been lights out, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts over 26 2/3 innings. The back end of the Cleveland bullpen did take a hit, with Erik Sabrowski landing on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation. Sabrowski has been one of baseball's best setup men, with a 1.71 ERA and 39 strikeouts over 21 innings while leading the league in holds at 17.Duran surrendered a run to blow a save chance against the Guardians on Friday, then bounced back with three straight scoreless outings for three saves this week. He's certainly making up for the time he missed with an oblique strain, converting 11 saves with a 1.62 ERA and 26 strikeouts over 16 2/3 innings.Chapman got a week of rest as he didn't see any save chances. Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten lost the lead for the Red Sox on two occasions. The team currently finds itself in last place in the AL East. While they'll likely stick it out and try to get in the hunt over the next two months, Chapman will be a hot commodity if the team sells at the trade deadline.Muñoz picked up a save against the Royals on Friday and had strung together five straight scoreless appearances before giving up a solo homer in a non-save situation on Tuesday against the A's. The 27-year-old right-hander is up to nine saves with a 4.79 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings. On one hand, Muñoz has lowered his walk rate from last year and is generating far more whiffs, giving him an elite 29.2% K-BB rate that bodes well for better performance. On the other hand, he's giving up more hard contact than ever, giving up a 14.3% barrel rate and 49% hard-hit rate. Hitters are slugging .625 on his fastball. Still, it feels a little more fluky, and I trust he'll get back to his dominant self through the rest of the season. After starting the season with 15 consecutive scoreless appearances, Iglesias finally has an ERA after giving up two runs against the Red Sox on Tuesday. Still, he held on for his ninth save of the season, looking as effective as ever in his 12th MLB campaign.▶ Tier 2Riley O'Brien - St. Louis CardinalsBryan Baker - Tampa Bay RaysDaniel Palencia - Chicago CubsLouis Varland - Toronto Blue JaysTanner Scott - Los Angeles DodgersO'Brien recorded four outs and gave up an unearned run to take the loss against the Reds on Saturday for his only appearance this week. He remains at 13 saves with a 2.96 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings.Baker appeared in two games this week, picking up his 14th save with a scoreless inning against the Yankees on Friday. The 31-year-old right-hander is well on pace for over 30 saves this season, not something we thought we'd get out of a Rays reliever coming into the year. The Cubs have had a hard time getting a tight lead to the ninth for save chances all season. Palencia hadn't pitched in a week before getting the seventh inning in a blowout loss on Tuesday. He gave up one run on a solo homer.Varland completed a clean, two-inning save against the Pirates on Friday with three strikeouts. He was unavailable on Saturday after the extended outing, with Jeff Hoffman stepping in for a save. Varland was then used in the eighth on Wednesday against the Marlins to face the heart of the order. He kept Miami off the board before Tyler Rogers picked up the save in the ninth.Scott didn't get a save chance this week, either. Instead, he made a pair of scoreless appearances against the Brewers over the weekend, striking out five over two innings of work. With Scott unavailable on Monday, Blake Treinen stepped in to record the final out for a save against the Rockies. Scott then pitched the eighth inning against the top of the Rockies lineup on Wednesday before Kyle Hurt took the ninth for a save. While Scott should be considered the primary closer in Los Angeles, it's clear manager Dave Roberts isn't going to save him for every save chance.▶ Tier 3Paul Sewald - Arizona DiamondbacksDavid Bednar - New York YankeesJosh Hader - Houston AstrosGregory Soto - Pittsburgh PiratesDevin Williams - New York MetsKenley Jansen - Detroit TigersPete Fairbanks - Miami MarlinsJacob Latz - Texas RangersSeranthony Domínguez - Chicago White SoxSewald continues to get it done for the Diamondbacks. He picked up three saves and a win this week, giving him 14 saves with a 3.80 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings.Bednar got back on track with two scoreless outings. He struck out the side in a non-save situation against the Rays on Friday, then picked up a save against the Royals on Monday. Bednar is another reliever with better underlying metrics than surface stats, suggesting better days ahead.Bryan King recorded back-to-back saves against the Cubs over the weekend, then gave up one run in the eighth inning against the Rangers on Wednesday before Enyel De Los Santos stepped in for his fourth save. King has led the way in Josh Hader's absence with six. His utility could be coming to an end soon, with Hader approaching his season debut in the coming days. He's been out of action all season recovering from a biceps injury. The 32-year-old left-hander made his eighth rehab appearance on Wednesday and will likely get one more outing in with Triple-A Sugar Land before he's activated from the injured list. We'd place him here in the rankings for now, but he could quickly rise if he looks like he's returned to form following the long layoff.Soto has fully entrenched himself as the Pirates' primary closer. He picked up back-to-back saves this week against the Blue Jays and Cubs. The 31-year-old left-hander has converted five saves this month and six on the season to go with a 2.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts over 25 1/3 innings. Fellow left-handers Evan Sisk and Mason Montgomery have been excellent in middle relief, giving Soto the chance to be saved for the ninth inning.Just when Williams looked to have turned a corner, he surrendered four runs and took the loss while recording one out against the Marlins on Sunday. He had worked his ERA down to 4.32, then ended that day with a 6.35 mark. Williams recovered on Wednesday with a scoreless inning against the Reds, striking out the side for his eighth save, but had to work around three walks and strand the bases loaded. In Detroit, Jansen surrendered three runs, blowing a save and taking a loss against the Orioles on Sunday. He then departed from Wednesday's game against the Angels with a right groin injury and will undergo further evaluation. If Jansen is forced to miss some time, Kyle Finnegan would likely step in as next in line for saves. Though Finnegan's 1.82 ERA is mostly a mirage, as he's issued more walks than strikeouts with a 15/19 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings. Drew Anderson has shown far better skills, with a 45/16 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings. But he's been used for multiple innings in his outings, including three scoreless frames against the Angels on Wednesday.Fairbanks took the mound four times in the last week, picking up a win and a save. Nine of his eleven runs allowed have come in three blowup outings. He's been otherwise solid for the Marlins when healthy, converting six saves with a 21/7 K/BB ratio over 14 innings.Latz gave up a solo homer against the Astros on Tuesday, but held on to convert a four-out save with two strikeouts. Four of his six runs allowed have come over his last three appearances. Still, he's been incredibly solid for the Rangers, settling in as the team's closer with six saves and a 2.16 ERA over 25 innings. After giving up four runs in two appearances last week, Domíguez bounced back with a pair of scoreless outings. He picked up his 11th save against the Twins on Monday. The Grant Taylor hype turned out to be a bit premature after he picked up a save last week. He pitched the fifth inning in his next outing, giving up two runs against the Giants, then tossed a scoreless seventh against the Twins.▶ Tier 4Trevor Megill/Abner Uribe - Milwaukee BrewersRico Garcia/Anthony Nunez - Baltimore OriolesLucas Erceg - Kansas City RoyalsKaleb Killian - San Francisco GiantsMegill may be taking a step towards retaking the primary closer role. He pitched the ninth with a six-run lead against the Cardinals on Tuesday. This came after Uribe tossed a scoreless eighth and displayed a controversial gesture toward the Cardinals' dugout as he walked off the mound. Megill was given the ninth again on Wednesday, converting a save against the Cardinals.Garcia and Nunez have split save chances in the absence of Ryan Helsley, with three saves each. Nunez converted a save on Friday against the Tigers, then gave up a run to blow the lead in the eighth inning against the Rays on Monday. Helsley is working his way back from a bout of right elbow inflammation and hopes to return sometime next month.Erceg had a rough week. He gave up three runs against the Mariners on Sunday, then blew a save chance and took the loss with two runs allowed against the Yankees on Monday. It was always going to be difficult to maintain success with a 5.4% K-BB rate. But Erceg appears to have a leash on the closer role, for now. Daniel Lynch IV may be the biggest threat for saves in the bullpen, but he's the only effective left-hander on the roster. Carlos Estévez, out with a shoulder injury, could be cleared to resume throwing, but it'll likely be a while still before he's able to return.Kilian struck out the side in a perfect inning of work against the White Sox on Sunday for his third save of the season. He then tossed two scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, giving him a 2.22 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a 26/12 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings. If there's anyone worth rostering for saves in San Francisco, it's Kilian.▶ Tier 5Kirby Yates/Sam Bachman/Ryan Zeferjahn - Los Angeles AngelsGus Varland/Richard Lovelady - Washington NationalsTony Santillan/Graham Ashcraft - Cincinnati RedsMark Leiter Jr./Joel Kuhnel/Hogan Harris - AthleticsJuan Mejia/Antonio Senzatela - Colorado RockiesEric Orze/Justin Topa/Luis Garcia - Minnesota TwinsThese are the situations that are probably better off left untouched for fantasy purposes outside of the deepest of leagues. Varland had been gaining steam with the Nationals, but has now made seven appearances without recording a save as the team has gone with a matchup-based committee. Richard Lovelady and Orlando Ribalta recorded the two Nationals' saves this week. Kirby Yates picked up his first save with the Angels this week, striking out one batter in a clean inning against the Rangers on Saturday. He's one of the few in this tier worth speculating on in deep leagues if desperate for saves.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani continues to redefine baseball with his latest historic feat on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Ohtani displayed his two-way prowess, and as always, he was spectacular on both sides. In the 4-1 win over the Rockies, Ohtani launched a leadoff home run and also pitched more than six innings while allowing zero hits.According to Opta Stats, no other MLB player in the modern era has accomplished both feats at any point during their career — whether in the same game or separately.Tonight the @Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani:- hit a leadoff HR- pitched 6.0+ innings & finished with 0 hits allowedNo other MLB player in the modern era has accomplished both feats over the course of his entire career (same game or not). pic.twitter.com/rAjhID0hAO— OptaSTATS (@OptaSTATS) May 28, 2026The four-time MVP is the only starting pitcher in MLB history to hit a leadoff home run; he's done it three times in his career. Shohei Ohtani carrying Dodgers rotation once againThe 31-year-old superstar is finding his groove on offense and continues to be stellar on the mound. His homer on Wednesday was his ninth of the season, and he will head into the month of June with a sub-one ERA. Ohtani will head into June with a 0.82 ERA, which is the ninth-lowest ERA entering the month since earned runs became official in both leagues in 1913. The Japanese sensation had seven strikeouts and threw 99 pitches on the mound. He struggled with his command as he walked four batters in five innings. The Dodgers ace was far from his sharpest, and still, he had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to pull him out and go with Will Klein. Dodgers reliever Tanner Scott allowed the lone Rockies hit in the eighth inning to Tyler Freeman. That was the 10th time in Roberts' managerial career that he pulled a pitcher with a no-hitter going in the fifth inning or later. APNEWS.COMFrance moves to repeal Code Noir, the slavery law it never abolishedA statue named "Chains," by French artist Driss Sans-Arcidet, honoring the memory of the abolition of slavery, is photographed in a park in Paris, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as France's National Assembly examines a bill to formally repeal the Code Noir, or Black Code, the 17th-century royal edict that governed slavery in French colonies and treated enslaved people as property. (AP Photo/Thomas Padilla)2026-05-28T05:10:45Z PARIS (AP) — For nearly two centuries after France abolished slavery, the colonial-era law that classified humans as property remained quietly in place. On Thursday, lawmakers will finally move to eliminate it.The bill, expected to be adopted by the National Assembly, will repeal Code Noir, or Black Code, the 1685 decree King Louis XIV signed to govern slaves across France’s colonies. The law turned human beings into chattel, allowing them to be worked, beaten, sold, raped and killed — and France never formally did away with it. That realization has left many aghast. “That shocks me,” said Muriel Jean-Baptiste, a Paris-born nurse whose parents are from Martinique, a French overseas department in the Caribbean. “A law that treated Black people as property was left sitting there,” she said. The code’s reach was total. Article 44 declared the enslaved “movable property.” Other sections ordered mutilation for those who fled, and dictated that the word of an enslaved person counted for nothing. Code Noir’s 60 articles “should never have survived the abolition of slavery” in the 19th century, President Emmanuel Macron said last week. “The silence, even the indifference, that we have maintained for nearly two centuries toward this Black Code is no longer an oversight,” Macron said. “It has become a form of offense.”Like French presidents before him, Macron stopped short of an apology. Read More France ran the third-largest slave trade, shipping about 1.4 million Africans to plantations whose sugar wealth built the French cities of Nantes and Bordeaux. Its empire later spanned four continents. Others see the repeal as something more telling — a symptom, they argue, of a country that has yet to reckon fully with that past, one of many slow steps along the way. Calls for France to face its pastIn law, officially eliminating it is the easy part, observers say. Code Noir lost all authority in 1848, when France abolished slavery. France didn’t relinquish its slave colonies: the four oldest — Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana and Réunion — were made full French overseas departments in 1946. That means they’re governed from Paris like any other. Their roughly 1.9 million people, most descended from the enslaved, are French citizens. Despite being fully part of France, the overseas departments remain among its poorest territories. Unemployment runs roughly double the mainland rate, and more than three-quarters of households in Mayotte live below the national poverty line.Shocked to find the law wasn’t annulledBefore he discovered the truth, the French lawmaker who put forward the proposal to repeal the law didn’t know it still existed.Max Mathiasin, from Guadeloupe, had bought copies of the text over the years and left them on his shelf. “As the great-great-grandson of people who were enslaved, I had never been able to read it in full,” he said. “This was made by human beings — against human beings.”For him, the vote is “a way of restoring our ancestors, restoring our humanity” before a France whose motto is liberty, equality, fraternity. “It means living up to the Republican promise.” That promise, he says, is still unkept at home.“In Guadeloupe,” Mathiasin said, “in the most important positions, in the structures of the state, they are white.”A colonial exception that never endedThe Foundation for the Memory of Slavery is chaired by a former prime minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, and its deputy director is Pierre-Yves Bocquet — both white men.Bocquet calls Code Noir the birthplace of France’s “colonial exception” — the principle that the French Republic’s founding rights could be suspended for those under its rule. The principle outlived the empire, he said: “Even today, we accept that people in the overseas territories can have fewer rights than in mainland France.”France is hardly the only country still holding fragments of empire — the United Kingdom and the United States still have overseas territories. But what sets France apart, observers say, is that it made its slave colonies equal departments of the Republic, not dependencies it governs from afar. The state insists that the overseas departments are France like anywhere else, even as the people who live there say they are treated as less. France is ‘still in a form of apartheid’For Max Relouzat, 81, president of the Association for the Memory of Slaveries, the repeal matters, because so little else has. His African ancestor had no name under the law, only a number and a registration code — the family that lived in Martinique was given the name Relouzat at emancipation, likely after Nelouzat, a village in the Auvergne region of central France. What galls him, he said, is what the symbolism leaves untouched: systemic racism in France.“Under the cover of departmentalization, a colonial system was maintained,” Relouzat said. “If the overseas departments are part of France, why is there a ministry for the overseas?”In France, he said, “we are still today in a form of apartheid … a form of colonial continuity.” ‘Racism is the legacy of slavery itself’For some who have fought longest, Thursday isn’t the milestone it appears. For Florence Alexis, a slavery expert and daughter of the Haitian writer Jacques Stephen Alexis, the real turning point came 25 years ago. In 2001, the Taubira law made France the first country to call the slave trade, and slavery, crimes against humanity.“That is what changed my life,” Alexis said. For her, racism is the legacy of slavery itself, not of one edict. “When I was a child at school, they called me the little monkey,” she said. “People made animal cries when I walked past — as they still do in football stadiums today.”Paris-born Élodie Léon, 29, whose family is from French Guiana, welcomes the repeal, but resents the delay.“Symbolic neglect is also neglect,” she said. The history of reparationsAt the Taubira law’s 25th anniversary on May 21, Macron floated the idea of reparations — something that France has long stay away from addressing. He called it “a question we must not refuse,” but one on which “we must not make false promises.”He committed no money, instead defining repair first as truth-telling, education and historical work. The wealthiest of France’s plantations were in Saint-Domingue, where the enslaved rose up and won independence in 1804 as Haiti. France then forced the freed to pay reparations for the loss of their masters — a debt cleared only in 1947.France isn’t alone. In the United States, federal reparations legislation has stalled for decades. California approved an apology, but no cash. But the timing of Macron’s latest speech was awkward. Two months earlier, France abstained when the U.N. General Assembly voted 123-3, with 52 abstentions, to call the trans-Atlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity. And this month at the Africa Forward Summit in Kenya, days after declaring himself a “pan-Africanist,” Macron seized a microphone and ordered the room to quiet down. “As soon as he sets foot on the African continent,” French opposition lawmaker Danièle Obono said, “he can’t help but behave like a colonizer.”The repeal of Code Noir, said Bocquet, “will have no direct effect.” Whether it helps France fight racism and inequality in its overseas territories, he said, “remains to be seen.”“It is easy for the French authorities, and for Macron, to do this,” Alexis added. “Because it commits them to nothing.” THOMAS ADAMSON Adamson is a foreign reporter based in Paris for The Associated Press. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Right now, the Atlanta Braves are the best team in the National League by a wide margin, holding the best record at 37-19. Already 8.0 games ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies in the division, the Braves are definitely in a position to win the NL East, so long as they continue playing the type of baseball they have been playing to start the season. It's still very early in the year, and Atlanta will have to keep this pace, and it will probably go through a slump at some point, but the early returns have been promising.Still, that doesn't necessarily mean the Braves are the best team in the National League, or even close to the team to beat, because of the Los Angeles Dodgers. If they want to change that, however, there will probably be a slugger available in Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez, who could potentially put them over the top.“The most intriguing player in Houston by far is Yordan Alvarez, one of the game's preeminent hitters who has reasserted himself after being limited to 48 games last season. Astros general manager Dana Brown probably is inclined to hold onto Alvarez, who will turn 29 in June and is owed a very manageable $53.66 million between 2027 and 2028. But the Astros could probably get a bounty for the three-time All-Star, which might be the right course of action if they feel the greatest run in franchise history is over,” Tim Kelly of BR wrote. The Braves' farm system isn't considered elite by any means, and the Astros will definitely be in search of a few top prospects. However, if the Braves are willing to move on from some of the top guys in their system, there's really no excuse why they can't get a deal done. The cost would be a ton, but he'd be worth whatever the price may be.More MLB news:Yankees should avoid everyone else but this $325 million World Series MVPMariners slugger now being considered a trade candidate due to free agency reasonOne AL contender could help the Yankees like no other team in baseball at MLB trade deadlinePhillies might lose Byron Buxton to Braves for this one important Atlanta reason no one has consideredYankees could fix offseason mistake by replacing Ryan McMahon with 20 home run sluggerFormer Phillies fan favorite Rhys Hoskins in danger of being designated for assignment0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘I will not stop until…’ – Real Madrid president reignites Negreira controversy with explosive statement‘I will not stop until…’ – Real Madrid president reignites Negreira controversy with explosive statementReal Madrid president Florentino Perez stepped back into the spotlight after presenting his candidacy in the club’s presidential elections. The veteran president used the occasion not only to reinforce his commitment to the club’s future, but also to revisit one of the most controversial topics in Spanish football in recent years – the Negreira Case. The campaign launch attracted huge attention from both supporters and the media. Perez was joined by legendary former Real Madrid stars Ronaldo Nazario and Roberto Carlos, two iconic figures who publicly showed their support during the event. Perez once again brought up the Negreira controversy. (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images) (Photo by Clive Brunskill/Getty Images)As such, the slogan chosen for the campaign was “A lot of history yet to be made”, a phrase aimed at showing both the club’s past success and its ambitions moving forward. While the event celebrated Real Madrid’s dominance across different sporting sections, the atmosphere shifted when Perez addressed the Negreira controversy.Perez reignites Negreira debateOne of the loudest reactions of the event came when Perez openly discussed the ongoing Negreira Case and criticised the handling of the matter within Spanish football.Speaking to the audience, the Real Madrid president made his position perfectly clear.“I will not stop until the Negreira Case continues to tarnish Spanish football. Perez is ready for the elections. (Photo by Denis Doyle/Getty Images)“It is incomprehensible that a club has been paying the vice-president of the referees for 20 years and nothing has happened, and that those same referees are still in La Liga,” he said.Perez then went even further by criticising both La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation over their involvement in the matter.“I invite you to watch the footage of the trial again and see the role played by LaLiga and the RFEF: they asked just one question. “Their alliance is deplorable. I have only one mission, and that is to defend Real Madrid,” he added.Source: Mundo Deportivo0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPower Grabs and Engine Supermajorities: Inside F1’s Latest Political EarthquakesThe F1 paddock is currently navigating two massive political earthquakes. While the grid has finally broken the boardroom deadlock over the highly debated 2027 engine regulations, the head of the sport’s governing body is quietly making an unprecedented move to consolidate his power. Here is the latest breakdown of the off-track drama reshaping the future of Formula 1.The End of FIA Term Limits via Ben SulayemMohammed Ben Sulayem is making a massive play for long-term control over the FIA. According to a new report from BBC.com, Ben Sulayem has officially proposed the abolishment of term limits for FIA Presidents. This controversial move comes shortly after he won the last election completely unopposed, primarily because current election rules prevented anyone else from standing against him.To add further context, this plan to alter the FIA’s statutes will face a formal vote at the FIA General Assembly next month. When BBC Sport pressed the governing body for an explanation regarding the sudden desire to abolish term limits, an FIA spokesperson could not provide a specific, direct answer. Instead, the spokesperson bizarrely pointed to the NFL in the United States, arguing that commissioner Roger Goodell has held his position since 2006 and has “transformed the sport into a global brand”.Alongside removing term limits, Ben Sulayem’s proposal also introduces significantly stricter hurdles for any future challengers.Prospective candidates will now be required to “demonstrate sufficient experience within an FIA member or an FIA body”.The deadline for challengers to submit their list of supporting vice-presidents will more than double, jumping from 49 days to 100 days before the election date. The 60/40 Engine SupermajorityWhile the FIA restructures its leadership rules, the Formula 1 grid has finally reached a massive consensus regarding the cars. The push to change the 2027 power unit output to a 60/40 split in favor of the internal combustion engine now officially has enough votes to pass.Just days ago, a fierce manufacturer blockade threatened to kill the proposal. Audi, Ferrari, and Cadillac originally formed a united front to block the engine overhaul. However, the political landscape has drastically shifted over the last 48 hours. Both Honda and Cadillac have flipped their stances and now lean toward a “YES” vote for the new 60/40 regulations. This alignment with Red Bull and Mercedes means the grid has officially achieved a supermajority.Audi and Ferrari, who heavily opposed abandoning the 50/50 electrical split, are now left completely alone in their resistance.Although the exact final terms of the agreement remain unknown, everything firmly points to the fact that the 60/40 split will be implemented in 2027. This represents a massive victory for drivers like Max Verstappen, who previously threatened to quit the sport entirely if the heavy, battery-dependent 2026 engine regulations were not fixed. With the supermajority secured, the combustion engine is officially reclaiming its dominance on the grid.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Los Angeles Clippers have found some success on the court, though it's definitely not unfair to suggest that they haven't played the type of basketball they were hoping for when they made deals for Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and other stars they either still have on the roster or have moved on from.Leonard is definitely the most intriguing player of all, as the 34-year-old has remained one of the NBA's better players despite some injuries. Leonard, who has one year remaining on his contract, might even be a trade candidate because of how well he's played despite those injuries. According to the latest, there's reason to believe the Clippers could actually move on from him, despite some of their previous comments about keeping him on the roster.“Kawhi Leonard, Clippers. (Remaining contract: one year, $150 million.) The Clippers say they’re not trading him. But logic dictates they should consider it,” Sean Deveney of Heavy wrote. The Clippers have some tough decisions to make in the next few weeks to months, with Leonard being one of them. They also hold the fifth overall pick, which could give them a chance to reset the organization and try to bring in a young star to be the future of this team. In that event, it wouldn't be the worst idea to move on from Leonard to get more draft capital.More NBA news: Lakers' chances of landing Giannis Antetokounmpo shut downCavaliers fan swears there's a 95% chance LeBron James returns to ClevelandLakers trade idea lands Luka Doncic's lob partner from MavsPaul Pierce sparks controversy with Luka Doncic and Jaylen Brown All-NBA takeJalen Brunson’s $113 million gamble changed Knicks history foreverKnicks players who weren't alive for New York's last NBA Finals appearance0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFreddy Peralta’s feelings on staying with Mets revealed, but they don’t make senseFreddy Peralta’s feelings on staying with Mets revealed, but they don’t make sense originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. When the New York Mets made a trade for right-hander Freddy Peralta, the hope was that Peralta would not only have a chance to continue being one of the better starters in Major League Baseball but also be a guy who could put the Mets over the top. Peralta was one of the biggest offseason additions for any team in Major League Baseball, though obviously, it hasn't worked out the way the Mets have been hoping for. That isn't really his fault, as Peralta has still been very good and put up similar numbers to what he has throughout his career, but the Mets are currently the worst team in the National League at 22-33, and it doesn't look like anything is going to change anytime soon. With his upcoming free agency, some have questioned whether he wants to stay in New York or be traded at the deadline to join a new team. According to the latest from The Athletic, Peralta hopes that the Mets can turn things around.“Freddy Peralta maintains hope that the New York Mets are going to turn things around. And that they won’t end up trading him before the Aug. 3 deadline…” Will Sammon wrote."Plenty of teams are eyeing him this summer for the same reason the Mets sent two consensus top-100 prospects to the Milwaukee Brewers last winter to get him: He might not be an ace, but he’s a proven frontline starter. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPenguins' fans must brace for a reality they do not want to believe in after the 2026-27 seasonPenguins' fans must brace for a reality they do not want to believe in after the 2026-27 season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Pittsburgh Penguins made a miraculous run towards the Stanley Cup playoffs, but fell just short in the first round against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was not supposed to be as good as it was, but 2025-26 should be considered a success. They got one very big bit of news already this offseason, with the return of Evgeni Malkin for one year at a $5.5 million AAV that is very bonus-heavy. But, there is something else that happened inside of that recent deal that should make every Penguins fan shed a tear. The era of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang is unofficially coming to an end. Though no statements have been made as to whether the 2026-27 season would be it for any of the trio, there is a sense that it is heading that way. Malkin seems like he is going to be the first to bow out, following this one-year deal. Which also contains a No-Movement Clause, meaning that he is locked in with the Pens for the duration of the 84-game season. Crosby is currently playing in the World Championships for Team Canada. His two-year deal is set to expire at the end of this season, and he will turn 39 on August 7. He is still playing at a high level, but the vibe is that his monumental career is coming to an end now. Letang is on the hook for two more seasons and just turned 39. He will likely play out the duration of that contract, and that could be it for him as the last man standing of this trio that brought three Stanley Cups to Pittsburgh. These past 20-plus years of success from these three players should be celebrated and remembered if this upcoming season is the last ride. More NHL News:Return of the SuperSonics? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarstool personality believes Cubs season is dead, and for good reasonBarstool personality believes Cubs season is dead, and for good reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.As a whole, the Chicago Cubs have definitely had a decent season. At 30-26, there really isn't a lot to be too upset about. However, going 0-10 over their last 10 games is just flat-out insane, especially when we factor in the two winning streaks Chicago had. The Cubs finally won a game on Wednesday night to break the streak. It's almost crazy to think that this team went from playing as well as it did to losing 10 straight games, and it didn’t feel like anything is going to change anytime soon, at least if you ask some fans around Chicago. That includes a Barstool personality, who went as far as to say that this team is dead.“Yeah, they already negated one of their ten-game winning streaks,” Eddie of Barstool said.“So that’s great. But I don’t know, I’ve been kind of intentionally avoiding it to a degree, and just being like ‘Oh, they’ll come out of it today. Today’s the day.’ Finally, Sunday was the day when I was like, ‘Are we dead?’”I hate to say that a team is dead because they're still 30-26 and only 4.5 games out in the National League Central, but wow, those past 10 games had been bad.More MLB news:Red Sox’s Jarren Duran did something that only two other players in Boston history have accomplishedYankees’ Cam Schlittler is doing something we haven’t seen in more than 100 yearsMets’ Francisco Lindor trade update will shock fans, but it shouldn’tBraves could guarantee themselves NL East title, and chance to beat Dodgers, by making this one tradeYankees should avoid everyone else but this $325 million World Series MVPMariners slugger now being considered a trade candidate due to free agency reason0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

Medina is expected to have her medical tests soon as well as her contract signing.”Medina played against United three times this season in the Champions League and she has represented Atletico 102 times, scoring one goal. The youngster has also represented Spain at under-16, under-19, under-20 and under-23 level but is still waiting for her first senior cap.Medina has been described as a player with “speed, stamina, and tenacity on the pitch. As a left-footed fullback, she is comfortable pushing up the flank to support the attack with overlapping runs and accurate crosses, while still maintaining defensive discipline and a competitive spirit.”The Spaniard will compete with Swede Anna Sandberg as United now have two of the best young left-backs in Europe at their disposal.United Women fans will hope this is the start of a rebuild this summer which allows the Red Devils to finish in the top three next season and perhaps land another trophy after the 2024 FA Cup triumph.Andrea Medina 25/26 season statsonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe Hoddle of Coffee: Tottenham Hotspur News and Links for Thursday, May 28Good morning everyone! We’re continuing our roundup of the EFL playoffs. Today is the final one with League 2.——I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one. I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to watch it. But, spoiler alert: Notts County have been promoted to League One!It all looks like a straightforward 3-0 victory to me. Notts were up 2-0 by half and Jodi Jones put it away in the 69th minute. That means the club that was taken over by some Manchester United greats will have to endure another year in League Two.And, for Notts, it means they’re now one league behind Wrexham (this was a plot line on that Welcome to Wrexham series a few years back). So who do they join in League One? Bromley, MK Dons and Cambridge United, who were also promoted, and Oxford United, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, who were relegated from the Championship. This should make for a very interesting season with Leicester, Luton, Argyle, Reading, Blackpool and Wigan.Fitzie’s track of the day:Adam Raised a Cain, by Bruce SpringsteenAnd now for your links:The Independent: “How to fix Tottenham: Start by selling Cristian Romero, and follow this blueprint”The Athletic ($$): “Lewis family promise investment in Tottenham, take ‘ultimate responsibility’ for struggles”BBC: “Nuno to stay as West Ham boss after relegation”The Guardian: “Crystal Palace win Conference League after Mateta strike sinks Rayo Vallecano”0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMExclusive on why Chelsea want key player’s future “wrapped up quickly”Exclusive on why Chelsea want key player’s future “wrapped up quickly”Ben Jacobs has made an interesting point about why Chelsea want to wrap up a deal for Enzo Fernandez quickly. If you enjoy Chelsea News coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.Ben Jacobs’ exclusive for TalkSport about Enzo Fernandez makes a very interesting point about why Chelsea want his future wrapped up quickly. They’ve set a big asking price and want suitors or either meet it or move on. Jacobs says “it’s understood Chelsea want Fernandez’s future resolved quickly in order to provide stability for new head coach Xabi Alonso.”They consider Enzo Maresca’s mid-season departure this year as a key reason for the disaster of a season, and want to make the best possible environment for Alonso. For starters, that means knowing if such a key player is going to be at the club so planning can start around what the team will look like.Chelsea don’t want to sell Enzo – but it’s a move that could help themEnzo is still just 25, and his peak could well be ahead of him. But so far he’s been a bit of a pain for Chelsea, both on and off the field. His tactical fit hasn’t quite worked under a number of managers, and seems to struggle to mesh with Cole Palmer. At the right price, there certainly is a strong argument for cashing in and using the money on a top replacement who fits Alonso’s ideas better. In other news…Enzo’s asking price is set at £120m according to the same report – and all of this will come down to whether Real Madrid or any other team are willing to pay something close to that.Levi Colwill’s return from injury was really impressive – he came back as though he had never been away. ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAYAlong with Mo Salah, the 32-year-old bade an emotional farewell to Anfield last Sunday after nine years with the Reds in which they won two Premier League titles, the Champions League and several other trophies.Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that there was an ‘agreement in principle’ for the Scotland captain to join Spurs, and it now seems as though that transfer is inevitable.Romano gives Robertson to Spurs the ‘here we go’Romano took to X on Wednesday evening to report that Robertson is on his way to north London, with the 2025 Europa League winners having previously sounded out Liverpool about a potential move for him in January. The Italian transfer guru posted: ‘EXCL: Tottenham reach verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson, here we go! Pact expected to be respected and deal to be signed soon despite Juventus proposal to try hijack the deal. Robertson, wanted by THFC last January and again now with De Zerbi. It’s happening.’Want more Empire of the Kop coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trustWhat are Liverpool’s left-back plans for next season after Robertson exit?It had previously been reported that Spurs would be the left-back’s preference so long as they preserved their Premier League status (The Telegraph), and having finally accomplished that mission last weekend, Roberto De Zerbi’s side now look set to snap up the Liverpool legend.Even the photoshopped image of Robertson in the shirt of the north London club in Romano’s post looks jarring for those of us who’d become so accustomed to seeing him in Merseyside red over the past decade, but we probably better start getting used to seeing him in opposition colours from hereon. The 32-year-old is duly poised to return to Anfield with the away team at some point next season, and whenever that happens, he’ll undoubtedly be given the warmest of welcomes from the supporters who showered him with affection during his send-off last Sunday. For Liverpool, it now leaves Milos Kerkez as the clear first-choice at left-back, though it’ll be interesting to see what happens in terms of cover for the Hungarian. Will Kostas Tsimikas resume his backup role upon returning from his loan spell at Roma? Do the Reds promote from within (Owen Beck steps up to senior squad), or do they seek to bring in an affordable alternative who could challenge our number 6 for a starting berth? While Robertson’s future now seems to be resolved, there remains a big question over LFC’s left-backs plans for next season.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'New six machine': Chris Gayle makes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi admission after 15-year-old breaks his IPL recordNEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the IPL 2026 Eliminator with a stunning knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener smashed 97 runs off just 29 balls, including 12 massive sixes, helping his team register a dominant 47-run victory and move into Qualifier 2. Although he missed out on a century, his fearless batting grabbed attention from cricket fans and legends around the world.Chris Gayle, whose long-standing IPL record for most sixes in a season was broken by Sooryavanshi, praised the youngster after he reached 65 sixes in the tournament, going past Gayle’s 59 from 2015. “What a phenomenal player Vaibhav is. Great entertainment young man! New Six machine," Gayle wrote.— henrygayle (@henrygayle) After the match, Sooryavanshi revealed he was not thinking about personal milestones during his explosive innings. “I got to know after the game," he said when asked about narrowly missing the fastest IPL hundred. He added, “My focus was on hitting a six. I will score centuries in future, but the focus was on getting maximum runs for the team."India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also praised the teenager’s fearless batting. “Chin up boy. What a CLASS innings, you’ve taken everyone’s breath away," Surya wrote on X, calling him a future star. While Sooryavanshi stole the headlines, Jofra Archer played a major role with the ball. The England pacer rattled SRH early by dismissing Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Ishan Kishan during the powerplay. Chasing a huge target, Hyderabad never recovered from those early blows and were bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs. Rajasthan Royals will now face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 for a place in the IPL final.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFernandes makes Opta's team of the season[Getty Images]Statisticians Opta have conjured up their Premier League team of the season based on data collected throughout the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made the cut after playing a key role as the Red Devils improved markedly under Michael Carrick to comfortably secure third place and a return to the Champions League.[BBC]On Fernandes, Opta said: Without doubt the easiest inclusion for this season's best team, Bruno Fernandes broke the Premier League record for assists in a season with 21, overtaking Thierry Henry in 2002-03 and De Bruyne in 2019-20 (both 20) as the most creative player in a season in the history of the competition. The underlying numbers behind it were even more extraordinary.Fernandes created 136 chances, which was far and away more than the next best (Dominik Szoboszlai, 78). That is a record gap between the two most creative players in a Premier League season Opta has on record since 2003-04.And in that time, only Mesut Ozil for Arsenal in 2015-16 has created more chances in one season (146), with Fernandes' 136 the most in any of Europe's big-five leagues since De Bruyne also created 136 in 2019-20.He led the way for open-play chances created (98), big chances created (33), expected assists (12.3), open-play expected assists (9.1), passes into the box (326), through balls (39), successful final third passes (662) and line-breaking passes in the final third (210). He also ended the season fourth for shots attempted (85).From Michael Carrick's first game on 17 January until the end of the season, Fernandes created 37 more chances than any other player (80) and his per 90 minutes total of 4.7 chances created under Carrick is the best ratio of any player under one manager on record since 2003-04.Read about the rest of Opta's picks here - and cross-reference it with Troy Deeney's team of the season here0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBaylor transfer Tounde Yessoufou commits to St. John’s after withdrawing from NBA draftLAS VEGAS, NEVADA - NOVEMBER 24: Tounde Yessoufou #24 of the Baylor Bears yells after a dunk against the Creighton Bluejays late in the second half of a Players Era Championship basketball tournament game at Michelob ULTRA Arena on November 24, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Ian Maule/Getty Images) | Getty Images If there is one basic truth about Rick Pitino on the recruiting trail, he will not go quietly without making a splash that reverberates throughout the college basketball landscape.Shortly after the NBA draft withdrawal window closed at midnight on Thursday, St. John’s attained one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal. First reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, former Baylor star Tounde Yessoufou announced his return to college basketball and that he will commit to St. John’s.Yessoufou went through the full NBA draft process and graded remarkably well in the combine’s physical testing, but there were no guarantees that he was going to be a first-round pick. While scouts laud his natural athleticism, high-motor play, and defensive upside, he was still regarded as an unfinished product on the offensive end, struggling with shooting consistency and passing during a difficult year for the Bears.ESPN and Yahoo Sports tabbed Yessoufou as an early second-round selection in their most recent mock drafts, while CBS Sports and The Athletic mocked him as one of the final picks in the first round. Now, the gifted 6-foot-5 guard from Benin is back in college to sharpen the edges of his two-way skillset and elevate his draft stock under the guidance of a Hall of Fame head coach. As a freshman, Yessoufou recorded 17.8 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while hitting 46.5% from the field, 29.3% from three, and 74.6% from the free throw line, earning an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention nod. Prior to his college career, Yessoufou was named a McDonald’s All-American and ranked as the 14th-best prospect in the class of 2025 according to 247Sports Composite. The Red Storm also may not be finished in the portal. According to Jon Rothstein, Yessoufou’s commitment won’t preclude St. John’s from continuing their pursuit of Milan Momcilovic, the prized Iowa State transfer who also announced his withdrawal from the NBA draft process. Other major suitors for the All-Big 12 forward are Kentucky, Louisville, and Arizona. Momcilovic averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 assists for the Cyclones last season while shooting 50.6% from the floor and an astounding 48.7% from three.Yessoufou is expected to start alongside returnees Ian Jackson and Ruben Prey, English point guard Quinn Ellis, and Syracuse transfer Donnie Freeman, forming an intriguing lineup with physicality, length, and scoring potential.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarcelona believe long-awaited Man City signing can finally happen this summerBarcelona believe long-awaited Man City signing can finally happen this summerIt has been a while since Bernardo Silva has been linked with the Catalan giants, yet financial complications and squad priorities have repeatedly prevented a move from materialising. This time, however, there is a growing belief within the Catalan club that the operation may finally be achievable.According to fresh reports emerging from El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona now view the possibility of signing the Manchester City playmaker as increasingly realistic ahead of the upcoming transfer window. More importantly, the player himself is reportedly placing Barça above every other destination despite interest elsewhere. What’s the story? The situation surrounding Silva has changed significantly in recent months, especially since he announced his departure from Manchester City as a free agent. Bernardo could make an attempt for Bernardo Silva. (Photo by Naomi Baker/Getty Images)Another important factor involves Jorge Mendes. The influential agent is understood to have actively presented Silva’s situation to Barcelona, while other major clubs, including Real Madrid, have also been informed of his availability.Even so, the strongest desire appears to be coming from the player’s side.Notably, Silva has never hidden his admiration for Barcelona, and the possibility of eventually wearing the Blaugrana shirt continues to appeal strongly to him. There is now even growing talk that developments could accelerate before the World Cup depending on how Barcelona structure the remainder of their summer business. Why Barcelona are not rushingBernardo Silva wants to play for Barcelona. (Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images)Although the signs around Silva are becoming increasingly positive, Barcelona’s current priority remains elsewhere. Internally, the club continues to focus heavily on rebuilding the attack before shifting attention towards midfield reinforcements. That explains why there is no panic inside the Camp Nou offices despite the encouraging situation.Simply put, Anthony Gordon’s expected arrival is already seen as a major step, but Barcelona are still exploring the possibility of adding another number nine before considering further investment in midfield.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJavon Kinlaw's funny NSFW response on Commanders' offseason additionsThe Washington Commanders made a lot of moves this offseason. Many of those moves were on defense. With one of the NFL's worst defenses in 2025, the Commanders needed an overhaul. Last season, Washington struggled to defend the pass, stop the run, get off the field on third down, force turnovers, pressure opposing passers, and much more. The Commanders will have several new starters in 2026, with edge rushers Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, defensive tackle Tim Settle, linebackers Sonny Styles and Leo Chenal, cornerback Amik Robertson and safety Nick Cross all expected to start or play a significant role. One of Washington's returning defensive starters, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, spoke with the media on the first day of the Commanders' OTAs on Wednesday and was asked about some of the new additions. To say Kinlaw is impressed would be an understatement. Kinlaw unleashed the quote of the year when discussing Washington's defense. "We got some motherf-----s now," Kinlaw said. "Excuse my language. Sh-t, Oweh, he can go. Sh-t, Charles Omenihu, he can go. Sh-t, K'Lavon can go. Sh-t, Tim Settle can go. Sh-t, we got D-Wise (Deatrich) back, you know he can go. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOlympic gold medalist Maroulis to host wrestling clinic in YorktownHelen Maroulis has climbed the mountain of wrestling. She knocked off a 13-time world champion en route to a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. Maroulis took home gold again in 2020 in Tokyo and grabbed bronze in 2024. Now, the two-time gold medalist is trying to give back, as she also prepared for a trip to the 2028 Los Angeles Games. On June 20, Maroulis and Victoria Anthony – a four-time national champion – will host a clinic at Mildred E. Strang Middle School in Yorktown Heights. “Overall, I’m looking forward to meeting everyone, sharing the mats and the love for this great sport and for getting to inspire the next generation of young men and women,” Maroulis said in a statement provided by event organizers. The clinic is being organized by Jimmy Kaishian, who has coached Yorktown High School's boys wrestling team for the past five years. He hopes that the clinic will increase interest in a girls wrestling program. Last week, Kaishian’s proposal for a girls team at Yorktown was approved into the budget for the next academic year. “I think [Maroulis] liked my offer, which was that I’m starting a girls wrestling program,” Kaishian said. “I’m not going to be the coach, but I’m starting the program and the thought was, ‘Let’s do this the right way.’” Proceeds from Kaishian’s clinic will go to two places. First, they will help support Maroulis as she prepares for a return to the Olympic Games. Additionally, funds will be set aside for singlets for Yorktown’s newest varsity athletic team. Kaishian is a Yorktown alum, and after spending time as a coach at Springfield College, he wanted to establish a culture at his high school alma mater. “We just won our first section title, and in my senior year we had taken second,” Kaishian said. “It was kind of a full-circle moment. Now, we’re going to start a girls program, so we’re trying to change the culture of the town and turn it into a wrestling town.” Putnam Valley senior Maddy Keeler, who won a Section 1 title at 138 pounds in 2025, plans to attend the clinic as she prepares for her first year wrestling at the NCAA Div. I level. Keeler is committed to continuing her athletic career at Presbyterian College.“The two clinicians are two pioneers of women’s wrestling who have accolades on top of accolades and have done amazing things in the sport,” Keeler said. “Helen Maroulis is a big role model of mine, so the fact that I can meet her and learn from her is something that really attracted me to the clinic itself.” Building a girls program Kaishian’s goal is for the Maroulis and Anthony-led clinic to inspire more girls to get involved in wrestling. “(Girls wrestling) is one of the fastest growing sports,” Kaishian said. “It was kind of a matter of time for me for Yorktown to have it. We have a few girls in the youth program, but I was waiting to capture some momentum. About four or five girls came up to me asking, and that was all I needed. I said, ‘We’re going to do this, but you guys got to get kids on the team.’” Recently, Kaishian put out a form to gauge interest in the program. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrom bitter rival to the Bills, this pass rusher embraces his new roleORCHARD PARK - Sometimes the box score or the stat sheet doesn’t tell the full story about the impact players have on a play, a game, or even a season. The newest member of the Buffalo Bills’ revamped defense, edge rusher/outside linebacker Mike Danna, was never a player who stood out like a beacon of light on a foggy night during six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.Instead, the former 2020 fifth-round pick — to borrow a term from Sean McDermott - always did his 1/11th for Kansas City’s defense, just a cog in the machine in helping the Chiefs win four AFC titles and two Super Bowls during his time there. And that’s what prompted Bills’ president/general manager Brandon Beane to sign the 28-year-old to a one-year free agent contract on May 11.“We sometimes look and we say, ‘All right, how does the team do when this player's on the field?’” Beane said Tuesday after the Bills’ OTA session. “Sometimes you're like, ‘Hey, this guy's racking up tackles but the team actually stinks when he's out there. They're worse when he's on the field.’”That was rarely the case with Danna. During his first three seasons he was primarily a situational defensive player who contributed on special teams, yet even in that role he had 10.5 sacks, 72 QB pressures, four forced fumbles and 41 stops, defined by Pro Football Focus as a tackle that caused a failure for the offense.Over the past three years when he became a full-time starter his statistics didn’t take a big jump forward, but he remained a steady player for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo who used him in a wide variety of places along the defensive line.“Statistically, they were a better rush group with him on the field, even though he might not actually come down with the sack all the time,” Beane said. “They have other good players and sometimes you got guys, like in basketball, who's setting a screen? He doesn't get the points, he doesn't get the shot or the assist, but without that, the play doesn't happen.”That’s a quality every team looks for in players, and the fact that Danna has two Super Bowl rings sure boosts his resume because as Beane said, you never ignore championship pedigree.Danna, of course, comes from a team that Bills’ fans loathe, the team that has prevented the Bills from reaching a Super Bowl since the year Danna joined them in 2020. Now he has flipped sides in one of the NFL’s hottest rivalries and he’s looking forward to seeing how the other side operates.“It was a pleasure and a blessing to be a part of that journey and that group of guys,” he said of his time with the Chiefs. “I'll never take any of that stuff for granted. That’s in the past. I'm just glad to be wearing the right uniform, the right colors, so it's all a pleasure, and I'm excited for it.”Although Danna’s Chiefs had success at the old Highmark Stadium, most notably in the 2023 divisional round when they gutted Buffalo 27-24, he always enjoyed the challenge of playing in the old stadium.“Being a visitor, the first thing I noticed was the Bills Mafia, their crowd, their fan base gets rowdy, gets crazy for all,” he said. “That's one of the coolest things, being in that atmosphere at Highmark. Playing there in a playoff game wasn't easy. Everybody knows going to Highmark Stadium in the playoffs is a rowdy environment, it's enemy territory. I'm excited to be on the right side of the ball and to have the team and the fans behind us.”Danna saw the brilliance of Patrick Mahomes up close, and it will obviously be quite a task to now go against him, but on the flip side, he admitted it will be nice not to have to face Josh Allen in 2026 who carved up Kansas City in numerous games.“Chasing Josh Allen, it takes all 11 guys, maybe 12 sometimes,” he said with a smile. “But it's definitely gonna be cool and great to have him on the other side of the ball and him scoring touchdowns for us instead of trying to tackle him or having numbers of guys trying to tackle him. So I'm happy about that.”Danna’s role in Jim Leonhard’s defense is evolving as the coaches determine how best he’ll fit. He’ll be part of the stand-up outside linebacker mix along with Greg Rousseau, Bradley Chubb, Michael Hoecht and TJ Parker, but he can also put his hand on the ground and play defensive end in an odd-man front.Having spent two years as defensive passing game coordinator with the Broncos, Leonhard saw plenty of Danna in the AFC West so he knows he’ll be able to deploy him in various ways.“Number one, you saw the versatility, and he always found a way to make a play,” Leonhard said. “They have some superstars on that defense, you were always looking for those names and then, all of a sudden, his always popped up in critical moments. The versatility he has, he’s played all around the defensive line – interior, on the edges. Any time you can bring in a vet who’s willing to do all the dirty work in a number of different ways, you feel as a coach you can utilize their strengths and hopefully help move the pieces around him because of that experience that he has.”The Chiefs released Danna in late February, a move that cleared $8.9 million in salary cap space, so his $1.2 million deal with Buffalo is a huge salary cut, but that’s OK. The hardest part was being a man without a home for nearly three months waiting for the right team to come calling.“I understand the business side of it,” he said. “It's just kind of waiting on the right opportunity and not trying to jump on the first available team and just being patient. It's kind of hard for players because it gets anxious, you’re in a gray area, you don't know what's going on, but you just got to have faith.“So coming here starting a new chapter, a new journey, I’m just looking forward to making more memories and making more moments with new faces, and hopefully, new opportunities.”Sal Maiorana has covered the Buffalo Bills for more than four decades including 37 years as the full-time beat writer/columnist for the D&C. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJosh Allen turns 30 with one of the best starts to an NFL career everJosh Allen turned 30 last week.NFL defenses are probably disappointed he's still in his prime.Allen's 30th birthday was May 21 eight seasons into his NFL career, he is alongside some of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the history of the sport before age 30.Only three quarterbacks have thrown more touchdown passes before turning 30 than Allen. Only six quarterbacks have won more playoff games at that age. And no quarterback in league history has rushed for more touchdowns.Allen’s age-29 season added another impressive chapter to that résumé. Despite playing part of the season with a broken bone in his foot, Allen still accounted for 39 total touchdowns with 25 passing and 14 rushing, finishing third in NFL MVP voting. The Bills’ season ended with an AFC Divisional Round loss to the Denver Broncos after Buffalo’s streak of five straight AFC East titles came to an end, and Allen later underwent offseason surgery to repair the injury.Allen married actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld on May 31, 2025 and the couple’s announced the birth of their first child on April 2, 2026.Where Josh Allen ranks among NFL quarterbacks before turning 30Touchdown passesOnly three quarterbacks in NFL history threw more touchdown passes before turning 30 than Allen’s 220. Only Mahomes, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Aikman and Brett Favre won more playoff games before turning 30.Mahomes has the most career wins by a quarterback younger than 30 with 17 victories. From 1990-2019 only 12 teams made the playoffs, with the top two seeds in each conference earning a bye. The NFL expanded it to 14 teams in 2020. Allen already owns NFL quarterback rushing touchdown recordAllen’s passing numbers are elite but his legs have separated him historically from most quarterbacks. He already owns the NFL record for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 79. Allen is also the first player in NFL history with five consecutive seasons of at least 40 total touchdowns.NFL quarterbacks can define their legacies after turning 30Thirty used to sound old for an NFL quarterback. Now it mostly sounds expensive.Modern quarterbacks are playing longer than ever, and many of the defining accomplishments of all-time careers now happen after age 30 rather than before it.Brady won four Super Bowls after turning 30. Multiple Hall of Fame quarterbacks, including Joe Montana, John Elway and Bart Starr, also won multiple championships in their 30s.For quarterbacks today, turning 30 represents a wide-open championship window rather than the end of a prime. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘You are the best’ – Real Madrid legends rally behind Florentino Perez during presidential presentation‘You are the best’ – Real Madrid legends rally behind Florentino Perez during presidential presentationFlorentino Perez wanted his presidential presentation to send a message of power, stability and unity around Real Madrid and by the end of the event, that message had become impossible to ignore.Perez arrived at the venue knowing the elections would bring criticism and pressure from rival voices, but he also knew exactly how to remind supporters of the figures who still stand beside him. That was where Ronaldo Nazario’s presence carried enormous weight. What’s the story? The Brazilian icon, one of the most symbolic signings of Perez’s first Galactico era, was among several former Real Madrid figures invited to support the acting president. Furthermore, Roberto Carlos and Santiago Solari were also present, but it was Ronaldo who ended up producing the moment that drew the biggest emotional reaction from the crowd. Before Perez even took the stage, the two embraced warmly near the front row while supporters inside the venue applauded loudly. It was a scene loaded with symbolism given the history between the pair dating back to Ronaldo’s arrival from Inter Milan in 2002, a transfer still remembered as one of Florentino’s most iconic moves.Ronaldo stands in Perez’s supportOnce Perez finished speaking, several club legends gathered around him on stage as the applause continued. Perez even encouraged Roberto Carlos to say a few words, but the Brazilian full-back stepped aside and allowed Ronaldo to speak instead.Addressing the Real Madrid president directly, Ronaldo said, “President, you are the best and you will always be the best. “All the members will be very grateful for everything you have done. Hala Madrid,” he shouted. With tensions rising around the presidential race, candidates are certain to play around with the emotional angle, although in Perez’s case, he has already received Karim Benzema’s affirmation without even calling for any endorsement.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCal Crutchlow to make MotoGP return at Mugello as Johann Zarco's replacementMotorsport photoLCR and Honda have given the green light for Cal Crutchlow to race in this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello as a replacement for the injured Johann Zarco. As reported by Motorsport, Crutchlow joined the test session held by MotoGP’s five manufacturers at Misano on Wednesday in order to assess both his physical condition and the realistic chances of making a comeback with acceptable guarantees.LCR confirmed the decision on Thursday morning. The Mugello race will mark the return of the 40-year-old Briton almost three years after the last time he lined up on a MotoGP grid, at the 2023 Japanese Grand Prix, where he competed as a Yamaha wildcard while serving as the manufacturer’s test rider.Despite Crutchlow's lengthy absence from racing, Zarco’s injury – with the Frenchman still waiting to undergo surgery following the serious injuries sustained in the heavy crash he suffered in Barcelona – has prompted LCR to turn to one of its most successful former riders. Crutchlow claimed three victories wearing Lucio Cecchinello’s team colours.Cal Crutchlow, Yamaha Factory RacingCal Crutchlow, Yamaha Factory RacingAt present, Honda – supplier of LCR’s RC213V machines – has Takaaki Nakagami and Aleix Espargaro as its two main test riders and potential stand-ins in the event one of its regular riders is sidelined through injury. However, the Spaniard is unavailable after the crash he suffered around a month ago during a private test session at Sepang in Malaysia. The logical move would have been to place Nakagami on the bike, but several factors led Cecchinello to bring Crutchlow back instead.Firstly, Honda is keen to protect Nakagami from any potential injury risk, as the Japanese rider is playing a key role in the development of the prototype the manufacturer plans to field next season under MotoGP’s new technical regulations, centred around the 850cc engine. At the same time, the Tokyo-born rider – who retired from full-time racing in 2024 – does not appear particularly enthusiastic about taking on the demands associated with grand prix weekends.Crutchlow, who formally retired in 2020 after six years as one of LCR’s leading riders under direct Honda contract, joined Yamaha as a test rider for 2021 and went on to contest several races as a substitute rider through to 2023.Subsequently, a hand injury that later became more complicated forced him away from the paddock, until he received a call from Cecchinello a few days ago. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBehind the scenes: Neymar has secret tests, worries CBFBehind the scenes: Neymar has secret tests, worries CBFThe first day of the Brazilian National Team’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup was marked by tension and suspense.Instead of taking the field with the rest of the squad at Granja Comary—where full-back Danilo was also absent—Neymar had to be taken to the Teresópolis Diagnostic Center to investigate an issue in his right calf.According to ge, the CBF set up a “special operation” to ensure the player’s privacy. The federation requested that the clinic be closed to the public starting at 5 p.m. and required the signing of a confidentiality agreement to prevent the medical report from being leaked. The No. 10 stayed there for about an hour, accompanied by doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, national teams manager Cícero Souza, and supervisor Sérgio Dimas. After hearing Lasmar’s guidance, Neymar appeared shaken and left the clinic lying down on the van’s seat on the way back to the training center.Differences with SantosNeymar is not the first Brazilian star to be called up for a World Cup while injured. It had already happened with Zico and Romário, but Romário ended up being cut in a controversial episode at the 1998 World Cup.It is worth remembering that the injury to the No. 11, which led to Zagallo dropping him, was also in the calf.Although there is still no news of a possible withdrawal of the player, the episode involving Neymar exposed a communication breakdown between the CBF and Santos, according to ge.Neymar had felt the discomfort in a match against Coritiba, on the eve of the squad announcement. On May 18, at the confederation’s request, the São Paulo club sent a document certifying that the injury was only a “simple edema” and that it would not prevent the player from training normally with the national team. However, after reporting in Teresópolis, the CBF’s standard tests indicated that the issue required greater attention, contradicting Santos’ account and generating clear discomfort behind the scenes among the coaching staff.Next Steps and FIFA RegulationsWith the detailed MRI results in hand, the medical department and coaching staff are cautiously assessing the forward’s future. The expectation is that he will be rested, ruling him out for Brazil in the friendly against Panama and, most likely, against Egypt the following week.Until when can the squad list be changed?Submission of the final list: World Cup regulations require the final squad list to be submitted by June 1.Exceptional removals: After that date, replacements are only allowed upon proof of illness or serious injury.Deadline: FIFA authorizes the replacement of an injured player up to 24 hours before the start of the national team’s first match in the tournament. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMavericks' Kyrie Irving receives update on future after Dallas parts ways with Jason KiddMavericks' Kyrie Irving receives update on future after Dallas parts ways with Jason Kidd originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a rough season, but there is a bright spot with Cooper Flagg winning Rookie of the Year. Dallas is now under new leadership, aiming to positively impact the future of the organization. The decision was made to fire Jason Kidd as head coach, ending a five-year tenure with the Mavericks.“Jason Kidd is out as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks after five seasons in what the team described as a mutual decision Tuesday evening. Kidd has four years and more than $40 million remaining on his contract, sources told ESPN. But Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont, who extended Kidd's contract during Dallas' NBA Finals run in 2024 and again before last season after they declined the New York Knicks' request to interview him, gave new president Masai Ujiri full authorization to determine the coach's future with the franchise,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon wrote. This now puts the rest of the roster in question. A key name to watch is Kyrie Irving, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL.“Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving will miss the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from knee surgery last March. Irving, who had the surgery last March to repair a torn left ACL, has not played this season. The nine-time All-Star is expected to return for the 2026-27 season,” ESPN wrote. For now, there appears to be no interest in the Mavericks trading him, even though he was very close with Kidd.“Masai Ujiri and Mike Schmitz have both stated they foresee Irving staying, as they think he and Cooper Flagg can be good fits alongside each other. However, Irving is 34 years old and is coming off an ACL injury. By the time he takes the floor in October, it will have been 19 months since he played in an NBA game,” SI’s Austin Veazey wrote. “Kyrie Irving also wants to be in Dallas. He feels comfortable with the city, which is not something you can say for every other stop he has made in his career.”Irving remains a key piece in Dallas, especially alongside a young core of players he will now share the floor with. Irving and Flagg could develop into a strong duo if they adjust well to playing together. The Mavericks’ front office seems hesitant to move on from Irving, which is a positive sign for the team’s future. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Ecstatic' and 'proud' - fans on Palace's historic night[BBC]We asked you to let us know how you're feeling after Crystal Palace's historic Conference League final victory over Rayo Vallecano. Here are some of your comments:Ken: The achievement of the team and Oliver Glasner is just great. Being 15th in Premier League, losing very good, key players and still winning a European trophy is in the history forever. Bravo, Glasner. Bravo, Crystal Palace boys. Great job, indeed. Sure, Thomas Tuchel biggest selection mistake is not taking Adam Wharton to the World Cup instead of 35-year-old Jordan Henderson.Tony: I'm absolutely exhausted. What a two years this has been. For a supposed 'little team' to do this is unbelievable. Oliver's army I will always be. Thank you for the memories, south London's most famous son. You have made my dreams come true. I hope we name a stand after him.Eafle: As a Palace supporter of over 50 years, there's been a few ups and lots of downs - I never expected to see the success of the last year. What's next? The Palace of old would appoint a useless manager, implode and be relegated. Hoping we are on a new path, but will continue to support whatever, with memories of what has been achieved.Mark: Wonderful occasion, privilege to be there. I've followed Palace for 55 years through thick and thin. What a 12 months. Rayo Vallecano fans are an absolute credit to their club - amazing.Andy: I watched from Selhurst Park. I am so very proud to be a Palace fan. We've suffered over the years with relegations and administrations, and yet here we are. FA Cup and Conference League champions. It's really hard to believe but it's the most amazing times. You cannot praise our players enough - it's been a hugely tough season. And finally... thank you, thank you, thank you, Oli Glasner. You gave us memories and joy I will never forget! South London and proud!Simon: Ecstatic. Rough at times but that's Palace and that's why we love them. Should have been in the Europa League to start with, but we did it the Palace way, the hard way... but we got there in the end! Up the Palace! EAGLES!Steve: It's hard to imagine the club I first watched playing against teams like Gateshead, Barrow and Accrington Stanley are now European winners. Back then, three trophies in one year seemed an impossible dream. This final may not have been pretty, but who cares? Congratulations to everyone at the club, which, for so many, has always felt like an extended family. Long may it continue.Jake: A fairytale ending to Oliver Glasner's tenure. We have been hit and miss all season but have cleared the final hurdle. Thank you, Oli and the players, you've made the impossible happen.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima
