Washington Football Hosting Coveted 4-Star Safety For Official Visit
One of the six uncommitted official visitors for the Washington Huskies football program this weekend is a blend of two former defensive backs and one current safety, making him the perfect fit to become part of the 2027 class.Jaden Walk-Green, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety out of Corona Centennial High School in Southern California, has a mixture of ex-Huskies Myles Bryant and Makell Esteen, along with current sophomore Rylon Dillard-Allen, with ball skills that most cornerbacks possess despite lining up as a safety.Listed as a four-star recruit by 247Sports' Composite rankings and the No. 35 safety in the '27 cycle, Walk-Green has been a disruptive force for the prep Huskies, registering 172 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 5 pass breakups in the past two seasons for Centennial.Locked in for Seattle ☔️ pic.twitter.com/Y0Q6EacVFL— Jaden Walk-Green (@Jaden_WalkGreen) April 6, 2026This coming season, UW is expected to graduate at least two safeties in seniors Alex McLaughlin and CJ Christian, though the latter could return on a medical redshirt after missing most of 2025 with an injury before suffering a torn Achilles tendon in spring practice. However, there are only seven scholarship safeties on the 2026 roster, which means Taylor Mays and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters will need to replenish the position group through the 2027 recruiting class. With four-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava filling more of a strong safety role, Walk-Green can complete the hyphen-safety duo that UW is seeking to fill out its defensive back room on paper while both can play alternating roles—another reason the pair fit well as an unofficial package in the cycle.Walk-Green has one more trip scheduled to Arizona State on June 12 before the four-star makes his college decision on Saturday, June 20. Having the coveted safety on campus with the majority of the Huskies' defensive class could make a strong impression that helps sway him to make Seattle his home for the next four years. This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: Washington Huskies Perfect Match for Productive 4-Star California S

Alpine requests FIA ‘right of review’ over penalties which cost Monaco GP podium
Motorsport photoPierre Gasly said he had been “robbed” of a podium in Monaco after finishing third on the road, and his team agrees. The Alpine team posted a statement which read: “After the result of today’s Monaco Grand Prix, BWT Alpine Formula One Team can confirm it has requested a Right of Review from the FIA following the penalties applied for pit lane speeding.” Read Also: Pierre Gasly says he's been "robbed" of F1 Monaco GP podium, Alpine requests right of review over pitlane speeding Both Gasly and Franco Colapinto were penalised for exceeding the pitlane speed limit – twice in Gasly’s case, resulting in 10 seconds being added to his race time. That dropped him from third place on the road to seventh overall. There appear to be questions to answer here, since Gasly and Colapinto were not the only drivers to be penalised for the same offence. Lewis Hamilton, who was classified second, also collected a penalty but was able to serve it while pitting again under the late-race safety car.Oscar Piastri and George Russell were among the others to be penalised, and several teams warned their drivers to be cautious about how they approached the pit entry. Gasly’s second penalty for speeding came when he was bunched up in the field following the safety car through the pitlane – and it’s understood the margin on both occasions was less than 1km/h over the limit."I know for a fact that what's in the car is below the 60kph [speed limit],” Gasly told media including Motorsport.com after the race.“And I know on both occasions I've put it [the pitlane speed limiter] way before the line. That's probably the most simple setting you can put in a Formula 1 car."When you have three or four teams that get caught for speeding... Hopefully it rings a bell to the guys that they need to check exactly what's going on because it's just not right."Pierre Gasly, AlpinePierre Gasly, AlpineIn Formula 1 the pitlane speed limit is not enforced by a single speed ‘gun’, since this would create an obvious loophole for teams to exploit. It is calculated as an average in the so-called “fast lane” using the FIA transponders and electronic timing loops embedded in the track surface. This has created unusual scenarios in the past, such as in Singapore in 2009 when Sebastian Vettel was penalised for speeding in the pitlane. Although his Red Bull team subsequently provided data to back up its claim that Vettel had never exceeded the speed limit, and he had simply taken a different line at the pit entry, the result stood.Interestingly, Alex Albon was warned that the penalties were related to “cutting the line around the Cadillac area”. There is a school of thought that the slightly different configuration of the pit exit this year, to allow for the space required by an additional F1 team, has tempted several drivers to stray over the line denoting the fast lane as it curves left towards the exit. But Alpine faces almost insurmountable hurdles in securing a successful right of review. The bar to this has been set very high to dissuade teams from making fatuous protests. The test is that the team must provide a “significant and relevant new element” of evidence which was unavailable to the stewards when the original decision was made. Read Also: Cadillac loses maiden F1 point as Sergio Perez penalised Five quick takeaways from F1's Monaco Grand Prix In this case, it’s understood that the FIA discussed the issue of the pitlane configuration with the teams before the event, hence the drivers being cautioned to keep their noses clean at the pit entry and exit. Given the method of calculating average speeds, snipping off a few centimetres here and there could easily make a car look like it was exceeding the limit even when it wasn’t.Given the requirement for evidence to be “significant and new”, Alpine’s chances of success are quite small. To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.

NBA legend urges Victor Wembanyama to reach a new level to beat Knicks in Finals
NBA legend urges Victor Wembanyama to reach a new level to beat Knicks in Finals originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Through two games of the 2026 NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama has the stat lines of a dominant player but the results of an absolute losing guy. He put up 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in Game 1, followed by 29 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and four blocks in Game 2.These are solid numbers on paper, but his actual performance on the floor tells a very different story. In Game 1, he shot only 6-for-21 from the field and committed six turnovers, with Karl-Anthony Towns holding him to 2-for-11 shooting. In Game 2, the Spurs scored 14 points late in the fourth quarter to tie the game but Wemby’s lack of aggression and an immature pass to Stephon Castle during a do-or-die situation ruined San Antonio's final possession and sealed the win for New York. Now, the Spurs are down 0-2 heading into enemy territory at MSG and Wemby has been the story for all the wrong reasons in crunch time. That is the backdrop for Dwyane Wade's challenge. Speaking on his WY Network platform, the Miami Heat legend compared Wembanyama's current struggles to his own 2006 NBA Finals, when the Heat fell behind 0-2 against the Dallas Mavericks. He thinks Wemby needs to find a gear nobody has seen yet."What Wemby's done has been incredible, I need to see more," Wade said. "If you're gonna win this championship, we're gonna have to see Wemby go to the level that we think Wemby can go to. He's shown us he can. I knew the opportunity that was in front of me and I didn't want the opportunity to pass me by, and so I end up discovering a player that I never had seen before. That guy who averaged 34.7 in the Finals, I never seen him before."Dwyane Wade says for Wemby to come back and win this championship, he has to perform at a level we all think he can 👀“What Wemby’s done has been incredible, I need to see more. If you’re gonna win this championship… we’re gonna have to see Wemby go to the level that we think… pic.twitter.com/F1Vy7lwLUY— Wy Network by Dwyane Wade (@wynetwork) June 6, 2026Wade famously pushed past his limits to average 39.3 points over those final four games, completing one of the most dominant turnarounds in Finals history. While that blueprint exists, replicating it is a massive hurdle for the 22-year-old because he is playing in his first finals and has been tasked with leading a comeback in one of the league's most hostile buildings.Plus, history is not helping him much, as no team in NBA history has ever recovered from a 0-2 deficit after dropping the first two games at home. Since the odds are also pretty much against the Spurs, Wade's advice left only one way for Wemby to save the series. Serena Williams says her children motivated comeback, does not rule out return to singles competition
Serena Williams announcing her comeback to tennis was received enthusiastically. Getting another opportunity to see one of the sport's greatest players take the court again is exciting.Yet Williams' pending comeback in a doubles match at the HSBC Championships also prompted questions. Why would she do this? What does she have left to prove? Speaking at the Queen's Club in London before taking the court this week, the 23-time Grand Slam singles winner agreed that she has nothing to prove and nothing to lose by returning to the court. But there was one important personal reason for playing again. "It's really about my kids getting to see me play," Williams said at a news conference on Sunday. "Olympia is a little bit older, Adira is very young. But it's also having an opportunity to still be able to possibly do that, one last time, is kind of cool and exciting." Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentWilliams' older daughter Olympia will be nine years old in September, while Adira will turn three in August. Asked if she could return to singles competition, Williams did not definitively say that wouldn't happen."For singles, I can't say yes, I can't say no," she said. "Right now, no. I feel like I probably need to train a little bit more if I want to play singles. We'll see if I get there." Additionally, Williams has committed to play in the Berlin Open, which begins next week. As with the HSBC Championships, she will play doubles with partner Victoria Mboko, 19. Could Wimbledon be next after that? Doubles competition at the All England Lawn Tennis Clubbegins in early July, while singles play starts at the end of June. Williams, 44, played her last professional tennis match at the 2022 U.S. Open, where she lost a grueling third-round contest to Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets, 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1. However, she never said she was retiring, but referred to her distancing from the sport as "evolving away." Yet that evolution appeared to be moving back toward tennis when she re-entered the International Registered Testing Pool. The anti-doping test was required for returning to play, though she insisted at the time that a comeback was not imminent. Players have to be in the pool for six months before being eligible to play, which follows Williams' timeline here.

Hodgkinson stunned by Werro despite personal best
Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson ran a personal best at the Diamond League in Stockholm but it was not enough to beat Audrey Werro. The Swiss athlete stunned Hodgkinson by winning in a time of one minute and 53.98 seconds - the third fastest women's 800m time ever and fastest in the world this year.Hodgkinson, competing in her first outdoor 800m race of the season, was narrowly behind in a British record of 1:54:33 while American Roisin Willis was third in 1:57:56.There was also a shock for Armand Duplantis as the Swedish pole vault star suffered this first defeat in 40 events. Hodgkinson has targeted the world record this year and the 24-year-old Briton smashed the world indoor record in February. And although she ran her fastest 800m time since July 2024 - 1:54.61 at the Diamond League meeting in London - Werro took more than a second off her previous best (1:56.64).The 22-year-old set the pace during a first lap of 55.54 seconds and although Hodgkinson hit the front with 300m remaining, Werro cruised past her just after they turned onto the home straight."It was a quick one, a really interesting race," said Hodgkinson. "When Audrey went off I was like 'just chill', but massive respect to her. That was a great race and it will motivate me more in training to make sure that doesn't happen again."Hodgkinson finished seventh in a rare outing over 400m on Thursday and plans to compete over 800m in Eugene before the Diamond League meeting in London on 18 July."I was a little bit apprehensive coming in, not quite knowing exactly where I was with the 800m, because we have been doing some 400 training and are going to put together the 800m now," she added."But it makes me excited because I can build on this great start. It's still very early. It's good to have a run in your legs because you can learn what you can do better but overall I am quite happy with that race because I made the right decisions, but Audrey was just better on the day."Meanwhile, Olympic and world champion Duplantis suffered his first Diamond League defeat in three years. In March, the 26-year-old broke the world record for the 15th time, with a jump of 6.31m slightly north of Stockholm in Uppsala. But the best he could muster on Sunday was 5.80m, second to Australia's Kurtis Marschall (5.90m).There was one local win in the men's discus for Daniel Stahl, with the world champion's throw of 69.60m beating Australia's Matthew Denny (69.02) and Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh (67.67).Britain's Lawrence Okoye was eighth with 64.02, some way short of his season's best (71.88). In the women's 100m, Britain's Amy Hunt ran a personal best 10.97 seconds to finish second to America's Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. Dina Asher-Smith was sixth in 11.24. British sprinter Jeremiah Azu was disqualified after a false start in the men's 200m, which was won by American Kenneth Bednarek in 19.87 seconds, with South Africa's Sinesipho Dambile second in 20.10.GB's Elise Thorner was second in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing almost 12 seconds behind Tunisia's Marwa Bouzayani, who won in a meeting record eight minutes and 59.28 seconds. Charlie Dobson was fifth in the men's 400m, won by South Africa's Zakithi Nene in 44.48 seconds. The men's 800m was won by America's Cooper Lutkenhaus in a season's best one minute 42.70 seconds, with GB's Ben Pattison (1:43.70) and Jake Wightman (1:44.39) fourth and seventh respectively. American middle-distance runner Yared Nuguse outlasted 19-year-old Australian Cam Myers to snatch victory in the men's 1500m.There was another meeting record in the women's shot put with the Netherlands' Jessica Schilder registering 20.89m. Hodgkinson ready for 'battle of world records' in London

Denzel Ward affirms commitment to Browns after Myles Garrett trade
Denzel Ward wants to remain with the Cleveland Browns even after the team traded his long-time teammate, star defensive end Myles Garrett, to the Los Angeles Rams.Ward affirmed his status when asked about his future at his inaugural celebrity softball game on June 6."I definitely still want to be here," Ward said, per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. "Myles is a good friend of mine, a great teammate, but things aren't lost. It's Ohio against the world. So people could doubt us, but we're going out there still trying to play our best ball and bring wins to the city."Ward had been teammates with Garrett since arriving in Cleveland as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The duo played eight seasons together and helped lead the Browns to a stellar 2025 season during which they ranked fourth in defensive EPA allowed per play, according to the NFL's Next Gen Stats. After Garrett's departure, Ward becomes the Browns' longest-tenured defensive player. The 29-year-old is clearly looking forward to operating in that role and seemed hopeful about helping to turn things around in Cleveland. At the same time, Ward acknowledged how rapidly things can change in the NFL and that he won't have any control over whether he will eventually be traded."I could get traded, but I don't really look too much into that stuff," Ward said, per Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com. "It's the nature of the game. Say I do get traded – I feel, for me, like wherever I'm at that's where I'm supposed to be. So if I'm here, I'm supposed to be here. If I go to a different team, that's where I'm supposed to be. But I love playing for the Cleveland Browns. I want to be here. I'm grateful – wherever I'm at, whatever opportunity I get to go play football, that's what I do."The good news for Ward? Browns general manager Andrew Berry implied the team wouldn't be entertaining trade offers for Ward even after dealing Garrett."Denzel's been great throughout the offseason. His communication's been good. a big part of the team, and we like him a lot," Berry said at a June 2 news conference. "He's still playing at a really high level. That doesn't change with this transaction."With that in mind, it seems like Ward will remain in Cleveland at least for the two years remaining on the five-year, $100.5 million extension he inked with the Browns in 2022.Denzel Ward contract detailsBelow are the full details of Ward's contract with the Browns, which runs through the 2027 NFL season.Term: 5 yearsTotal contract value: $100.5 millionAverage annual value (AAV): $20.1 millionGuaranteed money: $71.25 millionWard is set to make $20 million in cash during the 2026 NFL season with a $16.9 million base salary and a $30.9 million cap hit, per Spotrac.com. His cap hit will drop slightly in 2027, when he will carry a cap hit of just under $30 million.Ward is set to be a free agent in 2028, but his contract has attached to it three void years. That helps to defray his present-year cap hits but means the Browns will take on a cap hit of just over $9.2 million in 2028 even if Ward doesn't re-sign with the team.Denzel Ward statsWard has been a Pro Bowler in five of his eight NFL seasons, including each of the last three campaigns. Below is a look at the stats he has racked up across his eight-year career to date.'Games: 110Tackles: 361TFL: 13Sacks: 0.5Interceptions: 18Pass defenses: 104Forced fumbles: 4Fumble recoveries: 6Defensive TDs: 4Ward is coming off a season during which he totaled 39 tackles, one interception and nine pass defenses while allowing a 89.7 passer rating. The next Neymar, superstar about to announce himself at Liverpool
The next Neymar, superstar about to announce himself at LiverpoolLiverpool have the next Neymar at the club and he's about to announce himself. Neymar's brilliance in his prime was a pure footballer. The purest footballer perhaps we've had in the modern era.He was silky, sublime technically and just so brilliant in one vs one situations. As a winger, he consistently ranked among the most feared dribblers in world football, capable of dismantling defensive structures with sudden acceleration, intricate footwork, and unpredictable changes of direction. In his peak years at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, he turned one-on-one duels into personal showcases, often leaving full-backs stranded and creating decisive advantages for his team.Neymar embodied the essence of the modern winger, combining street football spontaneity with elite tactical awareness. His dribbling was not merely decorative but functional, breaking lines, drawing fouls, and opening space in tightly packed defenses.Few players in history have matched his ability to beat a defender repeatedly in isolation without losing control or tempo.Even when doubled or tightly marked, he could improvise with elastico moves, stepovers, and quick bursts that shifted momentum instantly. This made him one of the most influential attacking players of his generation, feared by defenders across domestic and international competitions. His prime years showcased not only technical brilliance but also a sharp footballing intelligence that allowed him to read defensive cues and exploit even the smallest gaps.Weeks of preparation from opponents often still failed to contain him, as his unpredictability in one-on-one situations consistently tipped matches in favor of his team and cemented his reputation as a generational talent. He remains a benchmark for elite wing play in modern football.Few could match him consistently. Will there ever be a player like him? It's hard to really know. There usually isn't a second coming of a generational talent like Neymar. So many players over the years have been given the sobriquet of the 'next Messi' or 'next Ronaldo' but how many have truly lived up to those labels?None. It's been the same for Neymar. However, it might not be that way for long. Because there is a Liverpool youngster who is about to announce himself on the world's stage and become the heir to Neymar's throne as the last remaining silky one vs one specialist winger in world football who still plays with freedom and creativity.Rio Ngumoha has already caught the eye at Liverpool. But it's early stages for him. His career is just getting started. Right now he's away on England international duty and actually became the fifth youngest to debut for the country's senior national team at just 17-years-old.That speaks volumes of his talent. But there's more to this story.Ngumoha did not just debut for England against New Zealand on Saturday, he left a mark. Such a discernible mark that he was actually voted Man of the Match in the game, despite only playing the second-half.But to those who observed the match, the accolade was no surprise. This was a special performance from the Liverpool youngster. He completed the most dribbles (3) on the pitch and was constantly looking to play one vs one situations, beating defenders and just playing pure football - like he was in a park somewhere. It was a joy to watch. The last player who played with this kind of freedom really was Neymar and in Ngumoha the Reds may very well have the next version of the Brazilian.Next season, the whole world is about to know his name, because Ngumoha showed on Saturday that he is ready to announce himself on the global stage at Liverpool.

When is NFL mandatory minicamp? Dates, full schedule for 2026
June is typically a quieter month in the NFL, but the 2026 offseason is bucking that trend. The month started off with a couple of blockbuster trades. A.J. Brown was sent from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New England Patriots in a long-anticipated deal while the Cleveland Browns shocked the NFL world by trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. Those deals provided NFL fans some excitement in the midst of the doldrums of the offseason. And soon, more will be created as teams open their mandatory minicamps for the 2026 NFL season. The league's offseason team activities (OTAs) are voluntary, so minicamp will represent the first set of mandatory practices. It will be important to watch potential no-shows for the sessions, especially among players known to be seeking new contracts.Jacoby Brissett and George Pickens will be two of the most notable players to watch with that in mind. Brissett is known to be seeking a raise as the Arizona Cardinals entrust him as the team's starting quarterback and could hold out if he doesn't get it.Meanwhile, Pickens is set to play on the franchise tag in 2026. The Dallas Cowboys have made it clear they don't plan on giving him a long-term extension this offseason, but coach Brian Schottenheimer is expecting the 25-year-old receiver to be at mandatory minicamp even despite that.Plenty more storylines will develop at mandatory minicamp, especially as the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings hold two of the NFL's most wide-open quarterback competitions. Here's a look at the NFL's minicamp schedule for 2026 and the dates of each teams mandatory workouts.NFL DEFENSE RANKINGS 2026: Rams still not Top 3 after Myles Garrett tradeNFL minicamp schedule, dates for 2026Arizona Cardinals: June 8-10Atlanta Falcons: June 16-18Baltimore Ravens: June 9-10Buffalo Bills: June 9-11Carolina Panthers: June 9-11Chicago Bears: June 9-11Cincinnati Bengals: June 16-18Cleveland Browns: June 9-11Dallas Cowboys: June 16-18Denver Broncos: June 16-18Detroit Lions: June 16-17Green Bay Packers: June 9-11Houston Texans: June 9-11Indianapolis Colts: June 9-11Jacksonville Jaguars: June 9-11Kansas City Chiefs: June 9-11Las Vegas Raiders: June 9-11Los Angeles Chargers: June 16-18Los Angeles Rams: June 15-16Miami Dolphins: June 2-4Minnesota Vikings: June 9-11New England Patriots: June 15-17New Orleans Saints: June 16-17New York Giants: June 8-10New York Jets: June 16-18Philadelphia Eagles: June 9-10Pittsburgh Steelers: June 2-4San Francisco 49ers: (Canceled)Seattle Seahawks: June 9-11Tampa Bay Buccaneers: June 16-18Tennessee Titans: June 16-17Washington Commanders: June 16-18This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: NFL mandatory minicamp schedule, dates for all 32 teams

NBA, NHL miss opportunity as Sunday night passes without a Final game
Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images / James Guillory-Imagn ImagesSports fans will have to get their fix without hockey or basketball this Sunday, as some questionable scheduling has left a prime Sunday night window without a Stanley Cup Final or NBA Finals game. Both the NBA and NHL are in the heart of their season finales, but neither league is taking advantage of Sunday night, historically one of the strongest viewership windows for live sports in the United States. Instead, both the NBA Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks, and the Stanley Cup Final series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes, will take a night off, sacrificing what could have been one of the most-watched games in either series.Instead, the NBA chose to keep a two-day rest period between games when the series switches cities, and the NHL, which typically schedules the Stanley Cup Final around the NBA Finals, opted to continue its every-other-day cadence through the first three games of its series. The decision is perhaps most perplexing on the NHL’s part, as it could’ve banked an extra rest day as the series switched cities after Thursday’s Game 2, but decided nonetheless to play Game 3 on Saturday. Adding to the curiosity, the NHL could’ve scheduled Game 3 for Sunday without altering any of its other scheduled games, with Game 4 already being slated for Tuesday. In recent years, leagues and networks have viewed Saturdays more favorably when scheduling marquee events, which could’ve played into the NHL’s decision. Traditionally, Saturday has been among the worst viewership days for live sports, but since the addition and expansion of Nielsen’s out-of-home viewing measurements, Saturday has become a day that can deliver large audiences. Even still, when given the choice, leagues and networks would likely tend to choose a Sunday night over a Saturday night for an event as big as the Stanley Cup Final. As for the NBA, the league began scheduling a two-day gap between site changes in the Finals starting in 2016. In a typical year, when the Finals begin on a Thursday, that would allow for two Sunday games (Game 2 and a potential Game 7). This year, however, the NBA moved the beginning of the Finals to a Wednesday to avoid going head-to-head with the U.S. Men’s National Team’s opening World Cup game this upcoming Friday. The league decided to maintain the same cadence of a two-day gap between sites even with the early start, resulting in the first NBA Finals without a Sunday game since 1970.Still, the NBA could’ve decided to keep just a one-day gap between Game 2 and Game 3 had it valued the Sunday night window. But the league decided Monday night was suitable enough for Game 3.ABC, the network broadcasting both the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Final, likely wouldn’t have minded a Sunday night window for either series. Tonight, ABC will be airing America’s Funniest Home Videos followed by Toy Story 4 in primetime. For sports fans, the decisions mean turning to alternatives on Sunday night. Fox will air an IndyCar race from Illinois, NBC will air Sunday Night Baseball, and ESPN will air Super Regional action in the College World Series; not exactly a murderer’s row of sporting events. Hopefully, most fans got their fill earlier in the day, with the French Open men’s final going five sets, the U.S. Women’s Open and Riviera drawing to a close, and the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament finishing in the evening. The post NBA, NHL miss opportunity as Sunday night passes without a Final game appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Vivian Wilson walks off red carpet after reporter says her father Elon Musk is “the best”
Billionaire Elon Musk’s estranged trans daughter, Vivian Wilson, made headlines this week for her abrupt exit from an interview after the reporter told her that Musk is “the best.” Wilson, a model, was at an event in Spain to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Desigual store. Video of the moment shows Wilsom smiling and speaking to the media on the red carpet when one reporter asks, “Your father. The best, no?” Related Tim Kaine tells trans kids to ignore hateful GOP Senators: You are “worthy of love as you are” “My what? Sorry?” she replies, taken aback. “The best, your father?” the reporter repeats. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Vivian Wilson walks off during an interview after the interviewer brings up her father, Elon Musk, and calls him "the best." pic.twitter.com/HXyDdnVpaz— Molly Ploofkins (@Mollyploofkins) June 4, 2026 Wilson has long been outspoken about her father’s rejection of her because she’s trans. Musk, himself, has also not shied away from the conversation, voicing publicly his belief that his “son” was “killed by the woke mind virus” and claiming just this week that his shame over her trans identity is why he began to meddle in right-wing politics. In a 2024 interview, Wilson said that growing up, her father would berate her for any sign of gender nonconformity, including having a voice that was too high-pitched. She described him as “cold,” “very quick to anger,” and “uncaring and narcissistic.” But last year, Wilson told Teen Vogue that the notion that her trans identity turned her father into a right-wing zealot is “insane.” “It’s such a convenient narrative, that the reason he turned right is because I’m a f**king tr*nny, and that’s just not the case. That’s not what that does to people. Him going further on the right, and I’m going to use the word ‘further’ — make sure you put ‘further’ in there — is not because of me.” But Wilson has not let the haters – whether her father or others – bring her down. In response to the claim she died at the hands of wokeness, she posted a video of herself lip syncing the iconic lines uttered by drag queen Morgan McMichaels on RuPaul’s Drag Race after another queen spread false rumors she had died: “I look pretty good for a dead b**ch.” In the caption, Wilson added a direct message to her father: “And you don’t.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vivian Jenna Wilson (@vivllainous) “There’s not much I can do about it, so who cares?” she told Vogue last year of the lingering association with her father. “It’s part of my story, but it’s not the future of my story.” This past March, she also launched a new product line as both a middle finger to Musk and as a way to give back to LGBTQ+ youth. The line of merch features the phrase “Evil Woke Mind Virus” emblazoned on t-shirts, ball caps, tote bags, and other items, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Trevor Project. Florentino Pérez left disappointed by Real Madrid presidential election voting
Florentino Pérez left disappointed by Real Madrid presidential election votingReal Madrid chief Florentino Pérez has been left underwhelmed by the margin of victory achieved in his latest presidential triumph. This comes ahead of the imminent announcement of the Spaniard being reelected at the Santiago Bernabéu.Recent weeks have of course seen Pérez pitted against one chief rival in the race to be named Real Madrid president for the term ahead. After Enrique Riquelme entered the scene with a head-turning pitch centering on big-money signings and more, Los Blancos’ long-time leader was forced to pull out all the stops in his bid to remain. These efforts, as expected, have since proven sufficient, with Pérez primed to be officially reinstated to his post on Sunday evening. As alluded to above, though, the 79-year-old is not entirely happy with the outcome of the election. As per a report from journalist Abraham P. Romero, amongst a number of other sources in Spain’s capital, based on the current voting numbers, Pérez and his team have been left ‘concerned’.The Spanish patron expected a much wider margin of victory over Enrique Riquelme, forcing Pérez to face up to dwindling backing in his role at the summit of the Real Madrid boardroom.Conor Laird – GSFN

IndyCar celebrates World Cup with drivers representing their home countries
Every summer, the world comes together on the racetrack in the United States for IndyCar. But this year brings an extra special international celebration with the 2026 World Cup being played in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The two global sports competitions will collide on Sunday, June 7 when FOX helps create hype for the soccer tournament by bringing together 12 IndyCar drivers, each from a different country. For the promotion, each driver donned special firesuits and helmets that paid homage to each national team's kit.The spot will air as part of the broadcast for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 outside of St. Louis, which starts at 9 p.m. ET and airs on FOX.The 2026 World Cup is just days away. We’ve got a few surprises coming Sunday night 👀 pic.twitter.com/bKESdFPF68— NTT INDYCAR SERIES (@IndyCar) June 7, 2026The drivers said energy was high while shooting the promotional video and photos. It was something light-hearted in the midst of intense competition."We’re just doing something that we’re not used to doing," Alex Palou, the current IndyCar leader told USA TODAY Sports in a phone interview from set. "So it’s just been very fun.""The energy’s very high," Josef Newgarden added. The Team Penske driver races for the United States and was excited for the synergy not only of his home country to host the World Cup, but for the television product as well. FOX has the broadcast rights to IndyCar and will also air the soccer tournament."We’re all proud to be able to host the World Cup here in the United States and certainly proud of FOX’s involvement and think they’re gonna do a great job displaying it," Newgarden said. "We love that for them because they televise our product in IndyCar and we think they do a fantastic job. So to have a little bit of crossover and energy within the promotion is exciting right now."Palou is one of the soccer/football experts on the grid and is thrilled to represent for Spain. After winning last year's Indy 500, he took the Borg-Warner Trophy to a match for FC Barcelona, his hometown club."I love soccer. It’s a huge deal for Spain," he said. "It’s by far our biggest sport. And although I’ve never been very good at playing, since I was a kid I struggled playing, but honestly I’ve been following since I knew the sport."The four-time IndyCar champion said that it's "absolutely" motivating for him when La Roja is doing well on the pitch for him to continue performing on the track. Spain won the European Championship in 2024 and is the favorite to win the World Cup."It’s just very cool that Spain is so good, right?" he said. "Although being a very small country, we have options to battle and to fight for wins or at least to fight for the championship."Like the rest of the world, Palou is looking forward to the World Cup debut of Lamine Yamal. He was grateful he got to watch the teenage sensation play in person when he attended Barça's match."He’s so good. He’s so young," Palou said. "... It’s super exciting to see someone that is that young playing at the level that he’s playing and just getting better and better. In Spain, everybody’s crazy with Lamine. I understand it. I had the pleasure, as I said, to see him play live. It’s pretty remarkable. So hopefully he does an amazing job at this World Cup."Marcus Ericsson's big soccer moment was when he got to meet an already established superstar, Zlatan Ibrahimović, back when his fellow Swede played for the Los Angeles Galaxy."That was really cool," he said.Ericsson, who won the 2022 Indianapolis 500 and had a stint in Formula 1, is glad Sweden is back in the World Cup after missing the 2022 tournament. There's extra meaning that the United States is co-hosting the competition."We had some bad years, so it’s great for us as a country to be back in the World Cup," the Andretti Global driver said. "It’s fun for me living here in the U.S. to have Sweden play here."Similar to Spain, despite Sweden's size, there is a lot to be proud of in representing The Elongated Country."I’m very proud to be Swedish. We’re quite a small country, but it’s cool to be here in the U.S. and on a world stage like IndyCar race and represent my country," Ericsson said. "And I know a lot of people are following me back home in Sweden, so it’s something I’m very proud of."Pato O'Ward said that even though he's not a big soccer fan, he understands the significance of the World Cup being played in his home country of Mexico. There will be matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara and his hometown of Monterrey."I know everyone there is quite the fanatic for football, so it’s obviously something that I have known ever since I was a child," the McLaren driver said. "I personally never really played ‘cause I wasn’t very good. But I know it’s part of the culture for sure."He thought his firesuit, which has a similar look of Mexico's green adidas home kit with red stripes, was "really cool." As the only Mexican driver on the IndyCar grid, O'Ward is grateful to represent the same spirit that El Tri shares with the world, one of energy."I’ve always worn it very proudly on my back everywhere that I go, so it’s cool that not only we have the World Cup and the team that’s going to be participating throughout," he said. "I get to do it also in a pretty similar way, but just in a racecar."Newgarden, on the other hand, is a passionate soccer fan and is a known supporter of Liverpool in the English Premier League. While there is temptation to root for the Three Lions, the Nashville native is clear where his allegiances lie for the World Cup."I think there’s a lot of desire to see England win one. I feel like there’s a lot of heartbreak for that country, but I’ve gotta back the United States," he said. "I wanna see them do well. I’m not sure how far we can go, but I think with anything, you just never know. So I’ll definitely support our country and more than anything, just excited to watch and see the energy that we’re gonna have on display right in our backyard."The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner thought his firesuit and helmet for the World Cup promotion was very reminiscent of Evel Knievel."It looks like I may jump the Grand Canyon," he laughed.Perhaps the driver who appreciated his kit the most was Will Power. Donning Australia's green and gold brought a sense of nostalgia. Before becoming a two-time IndyCar champion, he made his debut in Champ Car and won the 2006 Rookie of the Year representing his home country."It reminds me of when I first came over here and I was driving for Team Australia," he said. "The green and gold, it’s really cool. I love the suit they made."Soccer wasn't popular yet in Australia when Power was growing up. Rugby was king. Football has grown in what he thinks is the last decade or so and, even though the Socceroos are underdogs in the World Cup, Power knows they will exhibit the grit that the nation is known for."I’m really hoping for a great World Cup for Australia," he said. "I think it’s a really good team. Obviously, very tough competition, but I know the Australian mentality and attitude, they like to fight hard, so it’s gonna be fun to watch."Reflecting on his own journey from the small city of Toowoomba to the big lights of St. Louis, Power said, "I understand the fight."Scott Dixon hails from New Zealand, Australia's rival. The other Oceania country also has an uphill battle in the World Cup. He said he enjoyed seeing the group chatter about the competition while shooting the promotion material for the summer tournament."I think our chances are somewhat slim compared to some of the others, but always good to have a bit of banter," the Chip Ganassi Racing driver said, noting he hopes to attend a match in person. Dixon had briefly heard about the All Whites rising star Tim Payne, who went from four thousand to five million Instagram followers weeks before the World Cup kickoff. He said the defender's journey from an unknown on Wellington Phoenix to potentially shining on the global stage is "fantastic."The six-time IndyCar champion was knighted by his country last year. He said he is very appreciative to be a part of New Zealand's motorsport legacy that includes Formula 1 champion Denny Hulme and the co-founder of McLaren, Bruce McLaren."I think New Zealand definitely packs a pretty big punch considering it’s only a small couple of islands," he said. "... I take great pride in flying the flag on a world stage and all the successes that come with it."The other drivers that participated in the IndyCar promotion for the 2026 World Cup are Caio Collet (Brazil), Dennis Hauger (Norway), Louis Foster (England), Mick Schumacher (Germany), Rinus VeeKay (Netherlands) and Romain Grosjean (France). The World Cup kicks off on Thursday, June 11 when Mexico takes on South Africa in Mexico City. The United States begins its journey on Friday, June 12 with a match against Paraguay in Los Angeles. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: IndyCar celebrates World Cup with national team-inspired race suits

The tight restrictions Iran has now been given for entry into the USA for World Cup games
Photo by Orhan Cicek/Anadolu via Getty ImagesIran’s World Cup preparations have been thrown into chaos by strict US entry rules, turning every American matchday into a logistical challenge. The squad has been forced to train in Mexico after visa issues disrupted their original plans for the 2026 group games in Los Angeles and Seattle. This is not just a scheduling issue. Iran now has to manage travel rules that cut into their usual buildup and recovery routines.Photo by Orhan Cicek/Anadolu via Getty ImagesIran forced into Mexico base by World Cup visa restrictionsAl Jazeera English reported that Iran’s players must enter and leave US territory on the same day as each World Cup match, citing Iran’s ambassador to Mexico. That is the key restriction. The players have reportedly received visas to compete, but the team cannot operate like a normal World Cup squad based inside the host country.Instead of being stationed in Tucson, Arizona, as originally planned, Iran has set up camp in Tijuana, Mexico. That move changes the entire flow of their tournament.Matchday preparations now include border crossings, security checks and travel, all before the football even begins.Iran visa delays split squad and support staffThe restrictions have also created a divide within the delegation. Iranian state television reported that 14 backroom staff and officials were still waiting for US visas as the tournament approached. Those reportedly included federation Secretary-General Hedayat Mombeini and Vice President Mehdi Mohammad Nabi. That matters because World Cup preparation relies on more than the players and coaching staff. There were also reports that Iran’s national team departed from Turkey for its Mexico base while several federation officials and support staff were still waiting for clearance.Iran is in Group G and are scheduled to face New Zealand and Belgium at SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles area before taking on Egypt at Lumen Field in Seattle.Every one of those games now comes with the same added complication. Iran must get in, play and get out without the normal lead-in or wind-down time other teams may have.Read more:World Cup team given no-go areas around training camp due to snake infestation‘Dangerous’ Timothy Weah sparks controversy in USMNT’s final World Cup warm-up vs GermanyWorld Cup 2026 stadiums: Location, capacity and fixtures for every venue in US, Canada and Mexico

Morganti stresses value of prep time for Club World Cup formatThe Under-20 Women’s National Team is training in Aveiro, Portugal, for one of its final preparation periods before the World Cup. In addition to the friendlies already played against Finland U-23 and South Korea on June 3 and 6, Brazil will still face Portugal on Tuesday (9). Morganti spoke about the importance of having this preparation period in a format very similar to the World Cup group stage, which will be played this September in Poland.“This preparation period is very important for us because, coincidentally, there are three matches, which matches our group stage exactly, with a very similar gap between games. So we are already trying to prepare physically, mentally, and tactically, thinking about adapting quickly to what the World Cup may demand from us,” she explained.Speaking about the atmosphere among the players and coaching staff, the goalkeeper highlighted that everyone is on the same page. The team is focused on listening to coach Camilla Orlando’s plans and arriving at the World Cup in the best possible shape.“We really buy into Camila’s idea that we are already at the World Cup, because everyone who is here wants to be there, so we are working hard to prepare ourselves to get there, have a great tournament, and chase something that has never been achieved before. The atmosphere is great, we are working very hard and trying to build chemistry as quickly as possible,” she said.Brazil will return to the field on Tuesday (9) at 11:30 a.m. (Brasília time) for the friendly against Portugal. Christian Eriksen collapses: Denmark vs. Ukraine abandoned, former Spurs, Man United star 'conscious'
Christian Eriksen collapses: Denmark vs. Ukraine abandoned, former Spurs, Man United star 'conscious' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Denmark's international friendly against Ukraine was abandoned on Sunday after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field. The hosts were 2-1 up in Odense when Eriksen appeared to hold his chest and collapsed to the ground in the 65th minute of the game. That immediately sparked grave fears for the 34-year-old's wellbeing after he suffered cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 match against Finland in June 2021.However, the early indications from the incident at Odense Isstadion were thankfully encouraging.Christian Eriksen collapse: Midfielder 'conscious' after pacemaker 'responded as it should'A statement from the Danish Football Union (DBU) said Eriksen was conscious and "doing well under the circumstances", before confirming the game against Ukraine had been called off.Players from both teams formed a ring around Eriksen as he received treatment before he as able to walk to an ambulance under medical supervision.Denmark's national team doctor Morten Boesen stated that the pacemaker Eriksen had fitted after his cardiac arrest five years ago "responded as it should" and that the player would undergo further tests in hospital."Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should," Boesen said."He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him."He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital."But Christian is doing well and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay." Getty Images What happened to Christian Eriksen at Euro 2020?A footballer collapsing on the field would prompt concern in any circumstances, but worries over Eriksen's condition were particularly pronounced after the events of June 12, 2021.During Denmark's opening match of Euro 2020, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. He received emergency treatment on the pitch for 13 minutes. Eriksen was given CPR and a defibrillator, at which point it was determined he had suffered cardiac arrest. He was taken to hospital where he was stabilised and eventually had surgery, before being discharged on June 18. After three months of recuperation, he began training with a local Danish side in an attempt to return to playing football, before moving to Premier League club Brentford in January 2022He then joined Manchester United in August of that year and returned to the Denmark national team, playing for his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The Scandinavian nation failed to qualify this time around after they lost in the final of UEFA playoff path D to Czechia on penalties. How could Christian Eriksen play after heart attack?Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, which is designed to prevent against future cardiac arrests. This was the device that Boesen credited for working effectively when he collapsed during the Ukraine match. After the incident at Euro 2021, Eriksen was forced to leave Inter Milan due to Serie A rules that stated players with pacemakers were unable to compete in the league. Premier League rules do not feature such a restriction.Following his spells with Brentford and Manchester United, Eriksen joined Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. Now aged 34 and, despite the overall positive outcome, retirement feels like a very possible outcome following his latest scare.

Ravens pass rusher Mike Green has added muscle entering Year 2
Mike Green believes his body is ready for the demands of a breakout season. Appearing on The Lounge Podcast with Ryan Mink and Clifton Brown, the Ravens edge rusher discussed the physical changes he has undergone since completing his rookie campaign. Green said his training has focused less on making drastic changes and more on continuing the development that naturally occurs at the NFL level."I think I've dropped a good amount of fat percentage and added muscle percentage as well," Green said. The changes are part of what many players experience between their first and second seasons."I think I've dropped a good amount of fat percentage and added muscle percentage as well," Green said.Green explained that the physical demands of professional football force players to adapt and become stronger."More loads go onto your body, so it's able to build and tolerate more things," Green said. The results have left him feeling better than ever."Especially going into this second year, this is the best I ever felt," Green said.Perhaps most notably, Green said he's carrying more weight than at any point in his career while maintaining the explosiveness that made him such a dangerous pass rusher in college."This is also maybe the heaviest I've ever been as well," Green said.If the added strength translates into additional power off the edge, opposing quarterbacks could have even more reason to worry about Baltimore's pass rush this season. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Mike Green says body transformation has him ready for a breakout

NBA Finals Game 3 watch party outside MSG canceled with Trump expected
A planned watch party for Game 3 of the NBA Finals outside Madison Square Garden has been canceled.More than two dozen people were arrested at a similar party last Friday during Game 2 of the series between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. But now, with President Donald Trump and NYC mayor Zohran Mandami planning to be in attendance as the series moves to New York, security is on heightened alert. The Knicks are making their first appearance in the NBA Finals since 1999, and fans have enthusiastically embraced the team's title run. After nearly 7,000 fans showed up at Madison Square Garden to watch New York's 105-104 victory in San Antonio, authorities said 26 people were detained, with 17 arrested and charged. The New York Police Department said it had more than 1,000 officers on patrol at the MSG watch party. And police commissioner Jessica Tisch has expressed concern about the force being stretched thin with the World Cup also coming to the area. The Knicks have told fans with tickets to Game 3 on Monday night to arrive two hours early to account for security wait times with Trump and Mamdani planning to attend. An NYPD spokeswoman told The Athletic the decision to cancel Monday’s watch party was made in coordination with the Secret Service, which will provide security for President Trump during his visit.Other watch parties around the area are expected to continue as planned. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Knicks watch party for Game 3 canceled due to security concerns

UCLA commit Jerry Outhouse tries to lure other recruits to Westwood
The UCLA Bruins are expecting to bring in an exciting crop of talent with their 2027 recruiting class but they’re not finished yet either. UCLA’s recruiting efforts have expanded greatly this offseason under Bob Chesney, with the program getting help from unexpected areas.Currently safety Jerry Outhouse Jr. is ranked as the third-highest recruit for the UCLA 2027 class but he’s comfortable sliding down to No. 5 if that means there will be more talent around him on the Bruins roster. Outhouse posted on Twitter on Sunday to offer encouragement to a pair of recruits UCLA has been targeting.“@bradyedmunds9 @XavierSabb Make that move to WestWood! Let’s build something special and make History.” Outhouse said on Twitter.@bradyedmunds9@XavierSabb Make that move to WestWood! Let’s build something special and make History. 4s Up 🐻🐻— Jerry Outhouse Jr. (@J_OuthouseJr4) June 7, 2026Brady Edmunds wrapped up his visit to UCLA this past weekend, receiving a video from Hall of Famer Troy Aikman trying to attract the Ohio State commit to flip to the Bruins. Xavier Sabb is an even higher ranked recruit, with the five-star wideout also set to take an official visit with UCLA.In his first offseason with UCLA, Chesney has focused on the Bruins’ defense. Of the 10 four-star recruits that UCLA has gotten commitments from, six play on the defensive side of the ball. That’s not to say UCLA has ignored the offense, with offensive lineman Jackson Roper, tight end Zac Fares, running back Jayshon Gibson and wide receiver Kingston Celifie all committing to the Bruins as four-star recruits. If UCLA can land Edmunds and Sabb then the Bruins will have a plan for the future at quarterback while giving that quarterback a dynamic weapon. This is unfamiliar territory for the Bruins, who have spent the past few recruiting cycles in relative hibernation but it’s an exciting change for the program. This article originally appeared on UCLA Wire: UCLA commit Jerry Outhouse Jr. uses Twitter to do some recruiting

Zverev savours 'happy end' at French Open after grand slam heartache
Alexander Zverev put his grand slam heartache behind him to finally lift a major trophy at the French Open. The German was presented with a golden opportunity in the absence of injured two-time winner Carlos Alcaraz and with Jannik Sinner losing early, and he battled to a 6-1 4-6 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-1 victory over Italy’s Flavio Cobolli. It is nearly six years since the German blew a golden chance to win the US Open against Dominic Thiem, while he also lost in Paris to Alcaraz two years ago and to Sinner at the Australian Open last year.Another memory that came into Zverev’s mind as he held the Coupe des Mousquetaires was the severe ankle injury he suffered during a semi-final against Rafael Nadal four years ago.“This court is so special to me in so many ways,” said the 29-year-old. “I’ve had the best moments of my life on this court, I had the worst moment of my life on this court.“I was laid in that corner four years ago with seven broken ligaments and two fractured bones. I lost a grand slam final here two years ago. Now finally it’s a happy end.”Turning to his team sat in the stands, Zverev said: “We’ve been through so much, we’ve been through injuries, we’ve been through heartbreak, we’ve been losers in the most important moments, but, at the end of the day, we’re grand slam champions.”Tenth seed Cobolli was an unexpected if not wholly unlikely opponent and the 24-year-old recovered well from a nervous start in his first slam final to push Zverev all the way before running out of gas in the fifth set.Cobolli admitted he began suffering with cramp at the end of the fourth set, saying: “I felt so tired. My body left me on the court.”An emotional and exhausted Zverev collapsed onto the clay when a final overhead from Cobolli landed well long before the good friends shared a long hug.It was not quite the dramatic denouement of 12 months ago, when Alcaraz and Sinner contested one of the best matches of all time, but it was a fitting ending to what has been a refreshingly unpredictable tournament. The winner will certainly not be universally welcomed, though. While Zverev’s tennis CV merits a major title, he is a polarising figure after being accused of domestic violence by two ex-girlfriends.He has strenuously denied all the accusations but Brenda Patea, who is also the mother of his daughter, took her case to court before Zverev reached a financial settlement.Zverev is the first German man to win a slam singles title since Boris Becker at the Australian Open 30 years ago, while it had been so long since a German triumphed here that the victor, Henner Henkel, later died at the Battle of Stalingrad.Cobolli was effusive in his praise of Zverev, saying in his on-court speech: “It’s not easy for me to talk right now but I want to start with you Alex, if someone asked me who deserves more this title, I always said you.“I’m happy for you. I’m also sad because I was close and I feel it. Now that you achieved your dream, let me win the next time.”Cobolli, who will break into the top 10 next week for the first time, described it as “the best week of my life”.He added: “I started to play tennis when I was young and I never expect this kind of result.“But, now that I’m here, I just want to make possible something special because, for me, it’s not done, it’s only the start. I’m still young. I just want to enjoy the moments I spend on court with my smile.”Both men had lost only two sets in reaching the final but Cobolli had been given a walkover in his semi-final after friend and countryman Matteo Arnaldi came down with an ill-timed stomach virus.Zverev, who is a Type 1 diabetic, and Cobolli were clearly struggling physically in the final set but it became clear early in the decider that it was the Italian’s race that was run.

Soccer-Iran's World Cup team arrive in Tijuana with US tensions high
By Emily Green TIJUANA, June 7 (Reuters) - Iran’s national soccer team arrived in Tijuana early on Sunday ahead of three World Cup matches in the United States, amid tensions that have turned the world’s biggest sporting event into a soft-power contest between the warring countries. The squad touched down shortly after 5 am (1200 GMT) in the ‌Mexican city, across the border from San Diego, after an overnight flight from Turkey where they have been training for the past three weeks. As the team’s bus pulled away ‌from Tijuana airport, it paused briefly so members of the federation could wave to about 20 fans holding Iranian flags. A cordon of military and police escorted the team from the airport to their hotel. Soccer is virtually a religion in Iran, a national pastime beloved by people across the political spectrum. But for Iran’s team, the tournament has been marred by fraught politics at home, the war with the U.S., and tensions over whether they would actually be able to set foot on U.S. soil to play their games. Even their presence in Tijuana is politically tinged. The Iranian federation negotiated at the last minute to move the team’s base camp from Arizona to Mexico, due to uncertainty over whether they would be granted visas and a growing feeling in Iran that the squad’s presence in the U.S. should be kept to a ‌minimum, Iran’s ambassador in Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh, told Reuters. Iran's coach Amir Ghalenoei told FIFA that the team ideally would have arrived in Tijuana last week in order to adapt to the time difference. "Normally, in tournaments like this, humanitarian and ethical considerations should come before technical matters, and I believe those considerations were not extended to us," he said after arriving at Tijuana airport. Iranian defender Ehsan Hajsafi said the team has suffered “very difficult circumstances” since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran in February but that the players are in excellent physical condition and “fully ready” for the tournament. Iran are scheduled to play their first two Group G games near Los Angeles, against New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21, and then face Egypt in Seattle on June 26. Iran and the U.S. could meet in the round of 32 if both teams come second in their groups. PRESSURE ON PLAYERS This is the first World Cup since its inception in 1930 in which a host nation ‌is set to receive a country it is at war with. But the U.S. tensions are just one of several factors that have turned the World Cup into a political battleground for the Iranian team. Widespread protests that erupted late last year, calling for an end to clerical rule, culminated in a sweeping crackdown that killed more than 2,000 people in the deadliest unrest since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. The U.S. and Israel then attacked Iran on February 28, sparking a months-long war that continues. Iran’s soccer team were under pressure from all sides, said Abbas Milani, director of Iranian studies at Stanford University. “It has become a lose-lose for the players,” Milani said. “There are pressures on players not to play with the team, pressure to show comity with the people, and the athletes ‌are just there to play soccer,” he said. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Iran’s team were both cheered and jeered after refusing to sing the national anthem, which was viewed as an act of solidarity with anti-government protesters back home. Since then, the pressures on the team had only increased, Milani said. VISA DRAMA After weeks of uncertainty, the U.S. awarded visas to all the players on Friday, just 10 days before their first match. But several members of ‌the Iranian squad were not given visas, including “key managerial and administrative members,” according to Iran’s football federation, which accused the U.S. of breaching its host obligations and violating FIFA regulations. Pasandideh, the Iranian ambassador, said 15 of the 70 members of the party who arrived in Tijuana on Sunday had not been given visas to enter the U.S. FIFA did not respond to a request for comment about the dispute. An official with the U.S. State Department told Reuters on Friday that the administration had issued "the visas necessary for Iran to compete in the World ‌Cup, including for athletes and necessary support staff." The official added: "We will not allow the Iranian team to abuse this system to sneak terrorists into the U.S. under false pretenses.” Tonatiuh Guillen, who ran Mexico’s national immigration agency between 2018 and 2019, said Mexico’s willingness to host the Iran squad is a message of "solidarity at a moment of emergency." Iran’s World Cup plans in chaos after ‘discriminatory’ visa denials
Iran’s plans for the World Cup are in disarray after claims that the national team will only be able to enter the United States on the day of their matches, with the host nation being accused of “discriminatory treatment” over visa denials.Key members of Iran’s coaching staff have had their visas denied due to the country’s ongoing conflict with the US, with the country’s embassy in Turkey lambasting the US government for “the worst possible form of politically biased interference in sport”.“Why do you not say that visas were denied to a large portion of the managerial and executive staff, technical advisers, and others who are an integral part of any national football team?” the Iranian embassy posted on X, referring to an earlier announcement by the US envoy Tom Barrack that visas had been granted to players. “You have now escalated the deliberate and discriminatory treatment against Iran’s national football team to its highest level.”Iran’s national team departs for Mexico but without key members of staff, who were denied visas (Reuters)The US State Department claimed that the “visas necessary for Iran to compete in the World Cup” had been issued and asserted: “We will not allow the Iranian team to abuse this system to sneak terrorists into the United States under false pretences.”The national federation negotiated a last-minute move of the team’s base for the tournament from Arizona to Mexico amid the diplomatic standoff, but in a fresh twist, the country’s ambassador to Mexico has claimed the team will only be allowed into the US on the day of their group games before departing immediately after full-time.World Cup rules dictate that every team is expected to travel the day before each match, attending a press conference at the stadium.Iran will seemingly be unable to fulfil these duties, according Iran’s envoy Abolfazl Pasandideh, who has told reporters that “we can enter in the morning and we must leave the same day”, citing visa restrictions. It comes after months of uncertainty over Iran’s participation at the tournament, with Trump posting on Truth Social in March that he did not believe it would be “appropriate that they be there, for their own life and safety”.Iran will play their first Group G match on 15 June against New Zealand in Los Angeles before returning to SoFi Stadium to face Belgium in their second outing on 21 June. Their group campaign will then finish in Seattle against Egypt on 26 June.

Arsenal Identify This Atletico Madrid Forward As A Target: Should Arteta Go For Him?
Arsenal Identify This Atletico Madrid Forward As A Target: Should Arteta Go For Him?In a recent report, Cadena Ser claimed that Arsenal have identified Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez as a target for this summer transfer window. It has been mentioned that the Gunners would have to compete with Barcelona in the race to sign the Argentina international, who prefers a move to the Catalan club this off-season.Alvarez’s Impressive Numbers In La Liga Last SeasonAlvarez had another impressive campaign at the Madrid club as he was responsible for putting in a string of productive displays for them in the final third. The 26-year-old scored 20 goals and picked up nine assists in 49 matches for Diego Simeone’s side last season across all fronts. The Argentine talent is currently one of the most feared strikers in La Liga. Thus, the Gunners would do well to bring him to the Emirates Stadium in this summer transfer period. His current contract with Atletico Madrid will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it difficult for Arsenal to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.SEVILLE, SPAIN – APRIL 18: Julian Alvarez of Atletico de Madrid in action during the Copa del Rey Final match between Atletico de Madrid and Real Sociedad at Estadio de La Cartuja on April 18, 2026 in Seville, Spain. (Photo by Fran Santiago/Getty Images)Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Go For Alvarez?Alvarez is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few decent chances in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Argentine talent can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the final third. Alvarez is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate as a wide player if asked to do so. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Manchester City and won’t take much time to adjust to life in England if the Gunners manage to snap him up this summer. We can expect Alvarez to inject more quality into Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s frontline. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting place at the North London club next season. At 26, Alvarez has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a dream signing for Arteta to consider this summer. However, the Argentine talent prefers a move to Barcelona, so the Gunners would be wise to focus on some of their other targets if they fail to convince him to join this off-season.

Has Davante Adams hit ‘the wall’?
WOODLAND HILLS, CA - JUNE 02, 2026: Davante Adams #17 of the Los Angeles Rams smiles at Rams training facility on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in Woodland Hills, CA. (Ric Tapia / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) Davante Adams posted the lowest completion percentage of his 12-year NFL career in 2025, at 52.6%. What caused that? Some of the problem was he and Matthew Stafford not completely gelling, but, most notable to me, it was simply Adams not completing the catch. At 33 years old, was Father Time tapping him on the shoulder? According to a study by Dwain McFarland, it could be the case.“To appropriately understand the magnitude of age in the WR performance equation, I decided to divide production at each age (20 to 40) by their prime production. Prime production equals the average fantasy points per game for a player’s best three-year stretch in their career, and player ages were rounded based on their age on Week 1 for each season. After compiling that data across every season where a WR had at least 200 routes from 2011 to 2023, we get a clear picture of when WRs are at their peak and when they begin to decline. For the sake of simplicity, buckets were created for age groups based on performance.“View LinkHowever, looking at the drop off in catch percentage, I wondered if that particular statistic could be explained by something else. Age doesn’t necessarily hamper a player’s ability to catch the ball, does it? Was it scheme?I found a clip of every single pass thrown to Adams and watched it a couple of times. Davante Adams ran a highly diversified route tree with the Los Angeles Rams in 2025, excelling in vertical routes, deep comebacks, and red-zone slants, but he looked very uncomfortable on crossing patterns when the ball was thrown while he was running between the hash marks. He was fine, however, running a curl, finding a spot, and sitting there. I think I found out why.During the second play in this clip of Adams in the Houston game, Stafford hits Adams on a crossing pattern at the left hashmark. When he’s down on his knees, Henry To’o To’o drops his shoulder and hits Adams in the head with a brutal shot. If it were a college game, I suspect To’o To’o would have been tossed for targeting. His trepidation in the middle of the field after this hit is understandable.Understanding the physics of a head-on collision like this takes years of study, but to put it simply in sports involving contact, the force in a head-on collision is roughly equal to the sum of the speeds of the two players. If Adams was traveling at 19 mph and To’o To’o at 17 mph, the force Adams would have felt would be like running into a brick wall at 36 mph. Being tackled from behind or from the side creates a fraction of that force.Over the course of the season, as I watched, it was the same on virtually every pass. Curl routes, over the shoulder, end zone fades, and anything along the sidelines, he looked confident. Across the middle, with the possibility of a collision, and he often looked like he had T. Rex arms. The ball would hit his fingertips and fall to the ground incomplete.Or was it age?I also went and watched clips from his good years with Aaron Rodgers. It was absolutely magical the way Rodgers could float the ball into not even a window but a keyhole, and Adams would wait until the very last possible moment to raise his hands to the ball and make the catch. One can only hope that Adams and Stafford reach that comfort zone. With their first year together under their belts, I can see that happening. It also became pretty apparent, watching Adams from four and five years ago and comparing him to today, that he’s either a step slower, or the defensive backs are a bit faster. In those Green Bay clips, he was constantly beating guys with speed. Another possible sign of him aging are the two hamstring injuries. One with the Jets in 2024 and, of course, the one last season. Studies have determined that the most consistent non‐modifiable factors for hamstring strains are age and the history of a prior hamstring injury. So is it age? Or is it scheme? It’s undeniable he’s slower, but he still finds ways to get open and can make ridiculous catches. Maybe Sean McVay just needs to keep him out of those uncomfortable situations to get the production numbers back up.

'Strong contender at Test level': Gavaskar's verdict on Manav Suthar
NEW DELHI: Manav Suthar could hardly have asked for a better start to his Test career. The left-arm spinner marked his debut with three wickets on Day 2 against Afghanistan, earning praise from legendary India captain and batting great Sunil Gavaskar.Suthar struck in his very first over in Test cricket, dismissing Abdul Malik to enter an elite list of Indian bowlers who have taken a wicket in their opening over on debut. He finished the day with figures of 3/34, removing Abdul Malik, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Afsar Zazai as Afghanistan closed on 113/5, still trailing India by 451 runs.Impressed by the youngster's all-round display, Gavaskar highlighted not only Suthar's bowling but also the composure he showed with the bat."Manav Suthar has certainly made an impressive start to his Test career. What stood out was not just his bowling, but also the confidence he showed with the bat, particularly in the way he used his feet and looked comfortable at the crease," Gavaskar while speaking on JioStar’s ‘Cricket Live’ said."With the ball, he was extremely accurate and consistently put the batters under pressure. There was some assistance available from the surface, which he utilised well, but the real test for any spinner comes on flatter pitches where greater variety and adaptability are required."While urging caution over judging a spinner solely on a helpful surface, Gavaskar felt Suthar had shown enough promise to suggest he can succeed at the highest level."Having said that, this was a highly encouraging debut and he has shown the attributes to be a strong contender at the Test level going forward," he added.Suthar's selection was backed by a strong domestic record. The Rajasthan all-rounder has claimed 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches at an average of 25.76, including best figures of 8/33. His red-ball résumé also features six five-wicket hauls and three 10-wicket match hauls. The 23-year-old has also contributed with the bat, scoring 945 runs in 48 first-class innings at an average of 25.54, including a century and six fifties, with a highest score of 120.Earlier this year, Suthar represented Gujarat Titans in the IPL, picking up two wickets in four matches.

Cadillac gets and then loses elusive 1st point in F1 as Sergio Pérez penalized
MONACO (AP) — Cadillac's team principal hailed an “incredible testament to the resolve of the team” as Formula 1's newest constructor came close to an elusive first point, only to lose it to a penalty.Sergio Pérez finished strongly at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday to cross the line in 10th but was bumped down to 15th after the race when he was ruled to have false-started when the race resumed after an earlier suspension.Pérez had a wheel outside his grid box at the restart, his second false start of the race after lining up in the wrong spot at the original race start. “To finish 10th on the road is an incredible testament to the resolve of the team to keep fighting until the end,” team principal Graeme Lowdon said in a statement. “After the red flag restart, Checo (Pérez) drove fantastically well to make up several positions on the road — it was a real shame that the penalty dropped us back as he fought like he was going for the win.”That penalty handed 10th and the single championship point to Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, which has been Cadillac's closest rival through most of the season so far and had also yet to score in 2026. Pérez called the race “an amazing thing for the team” and claimed he hadn't benefited from his position at the restart "but that’s how it is — it doesn’t detract from the result today.” The General Motors-backed team's other driver Valtteri Bottas was a non-finisher with a repeat of the brake problems which were an issue for Cadillac through the Monaco weekend. ___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Sean Shelby's Shoes: What's next for Belal Muhammad after UFC Vegas 118 loss?
Belal Muhammad's time as the top welterweight is becoming an increasingly distant memory after he suffered another loss in the UFC Fight Night 278 main event.Muhammad (24-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC) had no answers for Gabriel Bonfim (20-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) on Saturday at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. He lost all five rounds on each of the three judges' scorecards, marking his third consecutive defeat since being dethroned of UFC gold by Jack Della Maddalena in May 2025.Muhammad struggled to find ways to be effective in his previous setbacks to Della Maddalena and Ian Machado Garry, but those losses are to a more proven caliber of fighter than Bonfim, respectfully.Maybe Bonfim goes on to be that guy in the division. Unfortunately, that does nothing of benefit to Muhammad now. He turns 38 next month, and this is obviously a proven danger zone for a fighter. It's not to say Muhammad can't still get some significant wins in this division. His rival and fellow former champion Kamaru Usman was ironically in a nearly identical situation of three straight losses, and he managed to get back on track with a main event win over Joaquin Buckley. Can Muhammad do the same? There's no doubt he will try. His post-fight body language didn't represent someone who was thinking about retirement, and the optimist would argue he's still in the top 10 of arguably the best weight class in the sport right now.The pessimist, however, can claim that Muhammad's career is on the ropes. He has never received beneficial treatment from the UFC, and if any of the brass think his use has nearly expired, then there's probably another tough fight coming his way. There's a good chance Muhammad gets another welterweight on the rise. Canadian standout Mike Malott (14-2-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC), who has won four straight, and former Bellator champion Yaroslav Amosov (30-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), are two names hungry to get a signature name on their resume, and Muhammad would be that for either. This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC Vegas 118 matchmaker: Who's next for Belal Muhammad after loss?

Tarik Skubal looked dominant in rehab, so when will he rejoin Tigers?
COMSTOCK PARK – Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal was pleased with his rehab start for the West Michigan Whitecaps on Sunday, June 7, throwing five scoreless innings while touching 99 mph.But Skubal danced around the question of when he might pitch next, either for the Tigers or on another rehab start.“That's a good question that I'm not going to answer,” he said at LMCU Ballpark. “There's a plan in place. I need to wake up and feel good tomorrow, and have a good week of work. Then we'll make that decision. But it doesn't really do me any good to tell you guys what I'm pitching next. I need to make sure that I bounce back from this one really well.”Skubal threw 54 pitches, 44 of them strikes. As a two-time American League Cy Young Award winner, Skubal had no problem dominating the Dayton Dragons – the High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds – and creating some weak swings. He recorded six strikeouts and no walks while giving up two hits.MASH UNIT: Justin Verlander needs another rehab start before return to TigersThe official radar gun had his fastball at 99 mph, while the in-stadium radar gun was significantly slower.“Really hope that gun out there isn't right, because that means I'm throwing slow,” Skubal said with a smile. “I think velocity was good, execution was good. I threw a ton of strikes, I was in the zone a lot today, so it's a good day.”Skuba hasn't pitched for the Tigers since April 29. He underwent surgery May 6 to remove a bone chip from his elbow. And he was pleased with his first official game action since the surgery.Facing 17 batters, Skubal got five ground outs and one fly out – a deep ball to center that was caught at the warning trackAfter finishing the fifth inning, Skubal didn’t go into the dugout. He turned and walked slowly toward the outfield. He finished his outing in the bullpen. As he walked, the sold out crowd gave him a standing ovation. He threw 15 more pitches in the bullpen.“I think the shapes were pretty good,” Skubal said. “There were some changeups that I cut a little bit that didn't have the depth that they normally do have, and that's a product of a lot of different things. The wind, the stadium, the mound. I asked about velocities and they said they were good. I said, 'are my shapes good?' And they said, 'Yeah.’"I'm sure I'll get a report about it, and kind of go through it, sift through it. I think the results were good, the execution was good, and I think that matters more than the shapes right now.”Skubal was nearly immaculate in the first inning.Skubal threw eight pitches – all strikes – recording two strikeouts and getting a groundout to second base. He touched 98 mph."I thought that was gonna be special,” Skubal said.Skubal credited West Michigan catcher Bennett Lee.“I thought Bennett called a good game,” Skubal said. “We were on the same page with almost everything. I don't think there may have been one shake in there, but I love the way he used big spin, especially in these circumstances, most guys are gonna go up there and swing at everything. So, yeah, I thought I competed well and executed pitches well, and I feel good now. So, that's kind of the most important thing.”Contact Jeff Seidel at jseidel@freepress.com or follow him @seideljeff.This article originally appeared on Detroit Free Press: Tarik Skubal dominates rehab sort; when is return to Detroit Tigers?

Weak offense and too many walks = Rays 1 Marlins 4
MIAMI, FLORIDA - JUNE 07: Cedric Mullins #31 of the Tampa Bay Rays catches a fly ball against the Miami Marlins during the second inning at loanDepot park on June 07, 2026 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Rich Storry/Getty Images) | Getty Images Today, the Marlins played a sort of game that felt familiar. Their pitching, from starter to bullpen, was outstanding. Their defense possibly robbed Cedric Mullins of a home run and was sharp across the board. They ran the bases well, making just one mistake (Heriberto Hernandez was thrown out at second trying to stretch a single to a double) but otherwise stole four bases, including a double steal that led to two runs.I realized, this style of play felt familiar for a reason: this had been the way the Rays were playing until about a month ago. But now that is gone. They have lost their good luck but also lost some of their basic ability to play clean baseball.Griffin Jax started and pitched five shutout innings, bouncing back after his last (four inning, six run) start. And the Rays got on the board early as well, piecing together a hit, a stolen base, and an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Things were looking up!But their offense, after that, was AWOL. They scored just one run on six singles, and managed to lose two runners who were caught stealing. And their relievers struggled to avoid walking people (Rays pitchers gave up six walks altogether), with several of the batters they walked ultimately scoring.Catcher Hunter Feduccia had an especially terrible day. He blew the Rays two ball/strike challenges early on. Now, I have been frustrated in the past when the Rays DON’T use their challenges — you can’t save them up for a rainy day! But if you have lost your first challenge and it’s not even the fifth inning I would be very very cautious about using another. But his biggest error? Following that double steal, with Miami runners on second and third base, Joe Mack hit a weak grounder that was fielded by Taylor Walls. Walls fired to Feduccia and the throw was in time to get the runner out….but Feduccia muffed the catch, the ball bounced away, and not just run but two runners scored. Was it a difficult throw to corral? Sure. Should he have held on to it? Yes! Here’s the video, what do y’all think?View LinkThe Rays continue to disappoint on both sides of the ball, although at least in this series we got some decent starting pitching. Now it’s up to Boston, and it would be really nice to win that series and NOT give the Red Sox any glimmer of hope.

MONACO (AP) — Kim Kardashian looked on as Lewis Hamilton placed second at the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday. The reality TV star and entrepreneur and the seven-time Formula 1 champion have been seen in public together at events in recent months, including the Super Bowl, though neither have commented in detail on any relationship.Ferrari driver Hamilton was asked about having a “high-profile supporter” at the track after the race. “It’s amazing to have her come this weekend and have the support,” he said in reply, also without giving any name. “With my friends, incredible turnout, just overall with people. I don’t really know what else to say. It’s amazing to have good people around you and good people supporting you, and she does that for me every day.”Kardashian was at the track in Monaco through the weekend and was pictured wearing Ferrari team-branded headphones during Saturday's qualifying session.Hamilton blew a kiss from the podium after he received the second-place trophy, a result which matched his best in any Grand Prix race since he joined Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season.___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

Arnold Allen wants Sean Strickland next: 'Let's run this sh*t back'
LAS VEGAS – Brendan Allen wants his shot at the UFC middleweight title, or at the very least a fight that gets him just hat.Allen (27-7 MMA, 15-4 UFC), a veteran contender at 185 pounds, maintained his top five position in the division with a solid win over Edmen Shahbazyan (16-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 278 (Paramount+) – which took place Saturday at the Meta APEX. The victory put Allen on a three-fight winning streak, and now he wants to cash those wins for an chance at UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland."I don't think I deserve anything. I earned (it). I try to earn everything I get," Allen said at the UFC Fight Night 278 post-fight press conference. "I mean, f*ck, I hope Sean goes out here and he's the champion, so hopefully he picks me. Let's run this sh*t back. It's been six years since we fought. I think I was beating him going into it. If you watch our fight at different angles, you could tell he didn't hit me with the striking. It wasn't there. So I think I get him out of there now. "I think Edmen is a better version of him. He's younger. He's more technical. He's faster. So I think Edmen is a better version of him, and I think I get Sean out of there, 'And new.' But you never know. If not, let me and Nassourdine (Imavov) fight. If Nassourdine wants to sit down and wait, that's fine. Let me fight the winner of (Kamaru) Usman and Dricus (Du Plessis) in October, maybe early November at the worst."Allen has history with Strickland. The two fought back in 2020. Strickland put a halt to a seven-fight winning streak for Allen, while also handing him his first UFC loss.Saturday's bout at UFC Fight Night 278 was a bit of an odd one for Allen. Allen, ranked in the top five of the division, was fighting an unranked fighter in Shahbazyan. It's not often you see someone so close in title contention fight that down in competition. It was a big risk for Allen and one that he was proud of making."I guess I'm not the most likable guy, and I don't got the most followers or none of that, but I can f*cking fight," Allen said. "I'm 15-4 in this promotion. I've fought the best guys I could fight. He was young. He's motivated as f*ck. He's a very skilled guy, and he earned his spot, or he earned his shot – right place, right time, also. But I took the fight because I needed to make the money, No. 1. No. 2, he was that next guy in line. You just keep going until you hit the next guy, and he was the next guy on a streak without a fight, and that's what we did. So hat's off to him. He was like the director. He pushed me. He made me find a new version of myself and he motivated me. So hat's off to Edmen."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Arnold Allen wants Sean Strickland next: 'Let's run this sh*t back'

ANP | Hollandse Hoogte | BART STOUTJESDIJK (Photo by ANP via Getty Images) | ANP via Getty Images Bayern Munich board member for sport wanted to show some support to injured star Lennart Karl, who picked up an injury on Friday that will keep him out of the World Cup. “Missing out on a World Cup at the last minute is incredibly painful of course, and the news came as a shock to the whole of FC Bayern. But it doesn’t change the fact that Lenny has so much talent, passion and potential. He more than deserved to be at this World Cup thanks to his outstanding first season as a professional,” Eberl told FCBayern.com. “Lenny will receive all the support he needs at FC Bayern. We’ll get back on the pitch as soon as possible – and we all know that he still has many major tournaments ahead of him. He himself is already looking ahead and says he’ll come back stronger. That’s what I like about him, and that’s the spirit you need at times like this.”Karl will have to stay positive and be resilient. Fat Joe: Knicks owner James Dolan is ‘misunderstood, like Batman in Gotham City’
The Knicks‘ practice-day media session at Madison Square Garden welcomed two unexpected guests on Sunday: New York City legends Fat Joe and Jadakiss.Fat Joe arrived with a message for a fan base that spent much of the last two decades directing its frustrations at Knicks owner James Dolan. The Bronx-born rapper believes Dolan deserves far more credit than he’s received.“Shoutout to Mr. Dolan. Greatest team owner in the game,” Fat Joe said. “Very misunderstood. They villainize Mr. Dolan almost like a Bruce Wayne, like Batman in Gotham City because he’s an elite. But this man: All these watch parties. That man’s taking care of us.”For years, Dolan’s name became synonymous with the Knicks’ dysfunction. He presided over failed eras built around stars such as Stephon Marbury, Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, while championship expectations routinely gave way to disappointment. But with the Knicks in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, Dolan is experiencing something unfamiliar: public praise.Fat Joe pointed to a recent experience as proof. The longtime rapper and entertainer-turned-podcaster purchased courtside seats for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Cleveland’s Rocket Arena. According to Fat Joe, those plans changed once Cavaliers officials realized who was trying to buy them.“They took it away when they knew it was Fat Joe the Knicks fan,” he said. “And Mr. Dolan was so pissed, he said, ‘Man if we go Game 5, I’m putting the owner up a deck.’ That’s when I really knew. He solidified that he’s for us. So shoutout to Mr. Dolan.”Fat Joe believes much of the criticism surrounding Dolan stems from the impatience that comes with owning New York’s basketball team.“What do you want me to say? The guy lives a great life. It’s a lot of pressure,” he said. “New York City, man, they want answers and they want it now. So they kept trying to get it right and now finally you’ve got this team-ball mentality.”Dolan has overseen the Knicks for more than two decades, but Fat Joe sees a fundamental difference between this roster and many of the star-driven groups that came before it.“[In New York], we like big names, and we always went for the big names, but those were more like individual achievers. It wasn’t team basketball,” he said. “So we got it right.”Fat Joe admitted he was skeptical when the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau after last season’s Eastern Conference Finals appearance.“I was a little nervous with coach cause I’m not gonna lie to you: I loved Thibs,” he said. “So when he came, I said, ‘Dog, what did we do?’ But [Mike Brown] proved to me that he’s an incredible, incredible coach. This is all a team. They’ve got that mentality. They’re not celebrating. I might be celebrating more than these guys.”And if the Knicks’ Finals run has created a different atmosphere around Dolan, Fat Joe believes it’s created something even bigger around New York City itself.“I seen Hasidic Jews breakdancing with Black kids outside. This is the greatest unification you’ve ever seen of New York City in your life since 9/11,” he said. “If you want to know what we felt like on 9/11 after the tragedy, it’s what you’re seeing in New York City. It’s everybody together.”

Bellinger and Chisholm hit 8th-inning homers that lead the Yankees over the Red Sox 6-1
NEW YORK (AP) — Cody Bellinger's tiebreaking homer sparked a five-run eighth inning capped by Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s three-run drive, and the banged-up New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 on Sunday.Bellinger drove a cutter from Justin Slaten (0-3) into the right-center seats for a 2-1 lead. Trent Grisham added an RBI single and Chisholm went deep on a cutter against Joe La Sorsa.New York (38-26) gained a split of the rain-shortened, two-game series and moved within percentage points of first-place Tampa Bay (37-25), which has led the AL East since May 10. Tim Hill (3-2) pitched a perfect eighth.New York is missing a trio of regulars who are on the injured list: Aaron Judge (fractured rib), Giancarlo Stanton (calf strain) and Austin Wells (cervical headaches).
