Marjorie Taylor Greene & other hardcore MAGA supporters turn on Trump over Iran military strikes
Supporters of President Donald Trump have begun turning on him over his decision to have the U.S. military launch bombing attacks Saturday against three Iranian nuclear facilities. Anti-LGBTQ+ Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) both publicly criticized Trump, as did the anti-LGBTQ+ pro-fascist group The Proud Boys and at least one Trump voter who recently called into C-SPAN.The U.S. military operation (dubbed Midnight Hammer) ostensibly sought to keep Iran from developing uranium to build a possible weapon of mass destruction. However, critics have noted that Trumps intelligence officials have claimed that Iran lacked the capability to do so, that Trump himself withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2018 (despite it being established purely to prevent Iranian nuclear ambitions), and that post-attack reports have contradicted Trumps claims that the weekend strikes completely obliterated Irans nuclear refinement capabilities. Related Trump makes homophobic dig at Anderson Cooper a day after he fled to a bomb shelter live on air The president managed to insult both gay people and women while berating the media for questioning his claims about his success in Iran. In a long X post, Rep. Greene suggested that the U.S. should be dropping bombs on drug cartels and said she was sick of neocon warmongers and all U.S. funding of foreign involvements. Subscribe to our Newsletter today I dont know anyone in America who has been the victim of a crime or killed by Iran, but I know many people who have been victims of crime committed by criminal illegal aliens or MURDERED by Cartel and Chinese fentanyl/drugs, she wrote.Im 51 years old, she added. Im GenX. Ive watched our country go to war in foreign lands for foreign causes on behalf of foreign interests for as long as I can remember. I was in 10th grade when Desert Storm started and my father before me was sent to Vietnam, another senseless foreign war.America is $37 TRILLION in debt and all of these foreign wars have cost Americans TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS of dollars that never benefited any American.American troops have been killed and forever torn apart physically and mentally for regime change, foreign wars, and for military industrial base profits. Im sick of it. However, she also said that she continues to support Trump despite disagreeing with him on Iran. Contrary to what brainwashed Democrat boomers say, Trump is not a king, MAGA is not a cult, and President Trump has surrounded himself with people who once disagreed with him and even ran against him for President, she claimed.Theanti-LGBTQ+ and pro-fascist groupthe Proud Boyscriticized Trump in its Telegram grouplast Wednesday, writing, If the United States gets directly involved in the Israel-Iran conflict, the voters that voted for Trump because there was a hope that Trump was America First can no longer support Trump.America First does not mean war for Israel. Donald Trump, focus on the health of our nation, period. We are crumbling. We are crippled with debt with no plan for a solution. Be the President you ran as. In a Sunday call into the political network C-SPANsWashington Journalprogram, one self-described MAGA supporter named John said, I woke up this morning on my X account, and theres a short clip of Trump just ripping into [former President George W.] Bush on the presidential debates, and, you know, complaining about how the country was lied to about the weapons of mass destruction. Well, you know, I mean, I feel the same thing has just happened again to us.John was referencing unsubstantiated claims made by the Bush administration in 2002 and 2003, that Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction that warranted an immediate U.S. invasion. An estimated 300,000 people (both civilians and combatants) have died due to the March 2003 U.S. invasion of the country, according to the Iraq Body Count project.I am so disappointed in Trump, he continued, claiming that Trump had bought into Israels pro-war propaganda. He added, And I am a hardcore MAGA guy. And I had so much support for this guy. And I just feel betrayed about this. Trump has done the wrong thing Weve gotten sucked in to yet another war. And its just, I am so disappointed in this guy.Unsurprisingly, Democrats have also blasted Trump for his strikes. During the Sunday MSNBC show The Weekend, Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) said,Trump lied to the American people and to his voters, promising he would not get us in yet another Middle East war This is an astonishing double cross by Donald Trump to his supporters and to his pledge to Americans.Welch noted that Trumps own intelligence officials had concluded that while Iran was enriching uranium, it didnt have the capacity to deliver a weapon. He also said that Trump had willingly acceded to the agenda of Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, who seeks regime change in Iran, a euphemism for conquest. Surprisingly, however, Rep. Massie both publicly criticized Trump and alsointroduced a bipartisan War Powers Resolution with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) last weekto prohibit United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran.I feel a bit misled, Massie told Fox News Digital in aSunday afternoon interview. I didnt think he would let neocons determine his foreign policy and drag us into another war.In response, Trump issued a social media postclaiming that Massie is not MAGA, that MAGA doesnt want or respect him, and promising to campaign for Massies Republican primary opponent in the next election.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
