Jenna Davis wants M3GAN to be the new Chucky & dishes on her character's gay icon status
It's insane, right?!M3GAN garnered a passionate cult fanbase when the first film came out just over two years ago.Since then, the killer doll has become a pop culture phenomenon and gay icon for her sickening dance moves, creepy singing voice, and, of course, deadly attacks on anyone who stands in her way. With M3GAN 2.0 coming out this week, fans everywhere are rejoicing as they get to see this psychotic robot unleash her wrath in a sequel that is sure to horrify and delight audiences around the world.Jenna Davis voices the titular role and has thoroughly enjoyed seeing the LGBTQ+ community warmly embrace M3GAN into the canon of fan-favorite evil villains."To even have the word 'icon' thrown out is the biggest honor as an actress. Playing a new villain was definitely a bit scary. Villains can either be well-liked or not, and luckily, M3GAN really was, and I feel very honored to bring her back," Davis tells PRIDE. See on Instagram In M3GAN 2.0, M3GAN'S software is stolen by a defense contractor to create another military robot named AMELIA, who becomes too powerful and hostile to the general population. As a result, M3GAN is brought back to life to stop AMELIA and prove that she's no longer the killer machine she used to be."She's bringing a lot of heat, and she's even sassier in this film than she was in the first one. I have a feeling there's going to be some iconic lines that come out of this second film. She doesn't care what other people think! She's a certified diva, for sure."With M3GAN becoming a pop culture staple in a short amount of time, many horror fans have compared her to Chucky from the popular Child's Play series over the years."I would love to work on this until I'm in my 50s or 60s. That would be a dream come true. I have a really good feeling people will love the second film. They did such a fantastic job with the script, and I think it took the storyline to another level."As if her voice work as M3GAN weren't exciting enough, Davis is also dropping her debut country album on the same day as the film's release."We decided to shake some things up! It's a very coming-of-age project for me. There's a lot of different elements I just poured into this body of work. I'm excited for people to see a different side of me. I don't only sing like M3GAN! My voice can do a lot more."M3GAN 2.0 and Davis' album, Where Did That Girl Go?, both drop on June 27. To see the full interview, check out the video at the top of the page.
