5,000 dancing activists made the worlds largest human Pride flag
Five thousand Mexican LGBTQ+ activists in Mexico City reportedly set a world record by making the largest-ever human Pride Flag in the citys central main square, known as Zcalo (Constitution Plaza). Its unclear what the previous record for such a display was.The display began at 10:30 a.m. on June 22 and lasted for two hours. Each participant wore a t-shirt displaying one of the traditional Pride flags six colors, carried an umbrella of the corresponding color, and moved to the song A quin le importa (Who cares) by Alaska and Dinaramaas, Latin Times reported. A drone captured photos and videos as the participants filled the plazas entire 787 square foot space. Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada joined the crowd and said of the event, Mexico City is and will continue to be the city of rights and freedoms. The display was meant to stay up during the citys month-long Pride festivities, which include over 40 art exhibitions, workshops, social events, coffee meet-ups, markets, drag bingo, parties, and much more, The Star Observer noted.Unfortunately, the flowerbed was vandalized sometime during the early morning hours of June 23.Police are hunting the vandal, but the mayor said the flowers wouldnt be able to be replaced before the months end.
