Why Charlie Woods will not caddie for Miles Russell in U.S. Open debut
Charlie Woods will not be on the bag for golf's top-ranked junior player at next week's U.S. Open. Jacksonville Beach's Miles Russell announced his swing coach Ramon Bescansa would be his caddy at the 126th U.S. Open next week at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York in a teleconference on Friday, June 12 Russell, the No. 1 junior golfer in the AJGA Rolex Rankings, survived a 3-for-2 sudden death playoff to qualify on "Golf's Longest Day" at BallenIsles Country Club's East course on June 8 in Palm Beach Gardens.Woods, a rising senior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, was Russell's caddie for the 36-hole event. Russell was complimentary of Woods' impact as caddie and initially said he hoped his friend and fellow Florida State commit would available on the bag at the U.S. Open."We just walked and talked and laughed," Russell said. "We had a bunch of fun and he helped me the most probably just by staying calm, taking my mind off what was going on. "That's a pretty stressful day and if you have somebody on your bag that you don't want to spend all day with, it's going to make it that much harder."It was a common sentiment among the junior golfers in Monday's U.S. Open qualifier in Palm Beach Gardens. Royal Palm Beach's Giuseppe Puebla, 17, qualified for the U.S. Open and tied with PGA Tour veteran Ben Silverman for the day's best overall score. He selected his friend Hampton Beebe of West Palm Beach to man the bag."It's such a long stressful day that I think you want a familiar face on the bag," Puebla said. "Just someone that you can rely on. If it's someone you don't know, you're kind of trucking the whole day and just trying to stay alive. To have someone who is close to you is pretty nice."Beebe, an Auburn golf signee and reigning FHSAA state champion, is unlikely to be available to caddie for Puebla at the U.S. Open due to his own playing schedule. As of Friday morning, Beebe and Woods are in the field as players at Florida's 109th Amateur Championship in Jupiter. Beebe shot 3-under in the first round and is tied for fourth place while shot 8-over and is tied for 112th. Eric J. Wallace is deputy sports editor for The Palm Beach Post. Boston Stadium transforms into World Cup pitch ahead of first match
Gillette Stadium, now known as Boston Stadium for the next month, isn’t a football field anymore — it’s been transformed into a soccer pitch.Preparations are underway ahead of tomorrow night’s first match of the World Cup, Haiti vs Scotland. Grounds crews are hard at work cutting the grass and making final adjustments. The requirements for the playing surface are strict. FIFA mandates a natural grass pitch, cut to a precise length of nine-tenths of an inch. Officials say that helps ensure the proper roll and bounce of the soccer ball throughout the match. On Thursday, media members from around the world got their first look inside the stadium. Reporters toured the locker rooms before walking out onto the pitch themselves.FIFA officials say the goal is to create the perfect stage for the world’s best players to perform. Even members of the Scottish media covering the tournament say they’re impressed by the venue.“When you see the size of the bowl and how huge it is, it’s intimidating. I feel like I’m a long way from Kansas.”Another noticeable change beyond the FIFA World Cup branding is what’s being sold at concession stands. Coca-Cola products will be available throughout the stadium instead of the Pepsi products fans typically see during Patriots games.Kickoff for tomorrow night’s match is set for 9 p.m. Stadium officials say gates will open three hours before kickoff and are encouraging fans to arrive early to allow plenty of time for security screening and entry. This is a developing story. Law And Order Fans Had The Funniest Takes About Mariska Hargitay's Face After The Knicks Won Game 4
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: Virginia Sherwood/NBC The New York Knicks shocked the world with their Game 4 win on Wednesday, overcoming the largest deficit in NBA Finals history. It was a game that felt out of reach until the final moments, and even the celebrities in attendance couldn't believe what they witnessed. This included Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay, who went viral after fans spotted her shocked expression while being consoled by Taylor Swift. Olivia Benson isn't returning to the 2026 TV schedule until later this year, but fans are well fed after seeing Hargitay's face minutes after the Knicks took the lead thanks to a last-second putback by OG Anunoby. They're now one game away from winning their first NBA championship since 1973, and the face of this famous Knicks fan really says it all: Credit: Dustin Satloff/ Getty ImagesNo, Tracy Morgan didn't throw up courtside again; that's the look from a fan who realized she may be witnessing history as it unfolds. I'd say she got her bang for her buck for those courtside seats, but I recently learned that celebrities don't pay for those seats. Now, after seeing her reactions, of course, fans of Hargitay had a lot to say. So, I'll kick it over to the Law & Order fans who reacted to the moment on X, and had all sorts of jokes tied to the show: I have seen Olivia Benson attacked and shot at and look less traumatized than she does here. She just took down the biggest criminal in SVU historyLooking like she just seen William Lewis again Or had Noah stolen for the 12th timeThere are SVU episode blocks of Olivia getting kidnapped/tortured that had Olivia Benson look less emotionally traumatized then last night.“Dun dun” gotta be the new “badum”It's like Taylor caught the bad guy. It's all hilarious, but only because Noah Benson is a fictional character and the actor who plays him has a lot of fun behind the scenes with the actors. Mariska Hargitay is getting a lot of flak from the internet for her reaction to that moment, but as we've seen in pictures, just about everyone was losing it during the Knicks' historic comeback: Credit: Al Bello/ Getty ImagesI love how Ben Stiller looks absolutely locked in on his phone, because he's reportedly working on a documentary that chronicles the Knicks' 2026 playoff run (via THR). Hopefully, he has someone with footage he can borrow for the playoff game he skipped to attend the Met Gala, so maybe Mariska Hargitay can lend him some videos she took. Ultimately, Mariska Hargitay is just a passionate sports fan, and at the end of the day, her exhausted face will be one of the many headlines to come out of this NBA Finals season. So, I'll continue to laugh about reactions to this face and how people are likening it to Michael Jordan's flu game picture. The New York Knicks will look to close out the series against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, June 13th at 8:30 p.m. ET. It's do-or-die for Victor Wembanyama's team, and I have to wonder if this massive collapse from the Spurs started when he took them to see Obsession. Meanwhile, I'm going to hope that we'll get to see more of Mariska Hargitay's passionate reactions (and matching shirts with Taylor Swift) as the Finals continue.

PREVIEW: United States face first World Cup game with Paraguay for 96 years
PREVIEW: United States face first World Cup game with Paraguay for 96 yearsThe United States host Paraguay in their first meeting at the World Cup for almost a century to kick start their Group D campaign at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The Stars and Stripes are the third and final co-hosts to get underway, following Mexico‘s 2-0 victory over South Africa at the Azteca Stadium and Canada’s clash with Bosnia at 20:00 (BST).It will be the first time since 1990 that the two sides meet on the world stage, with their last clash ending in a 3-0 victory for the US in Montevideo, Uruguay.Though initially disputed, Bert Patenaude – a member of the country’s Hall of Fame – is officially recognised by FIFA as having scored the first ever World Cup hat-trick in that game. They finished third out of 13 teams – their best ever tournament 96 years ago – that year, which saw the 14th team Egypt miss their boat to the host nation thanks to a storm in the Mediterranean Sea.America are hoping to make the most of their home advantage on a 12th appearance at the World Cup, after bypassing the qualification process due to their successful bid to co-host.They arguably possess one of their best squads for some time, featuring AC Milan winger Cristian Pulisic, box-to-box midfielders Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams, Gio Reyna, and Premier League defenders Antonee Robinson and Chris Richards.Robinson will enter the tie full on confidence, as the Fulham left-back scored a thunderous volley in their final friendly match before the start of the World Cup in their 2-1 defeat to contenders Germany. They last hosted in 1994 and went as far as the round of 16, a feat that the US have only bested once when they reached the quarter finals in Japan 2002 and bowed out to Germany – who knockout out Paraguay in the previous round.Maurico Pochettino’s side have won three of their last six matches in all competitions, with their last two friendlies ending in a 3-2 win against Senegal and a 2-1 loss against Germany. But the US came out on top by two goals to one when the sides met for an international friendly last November and aim to secure a third victory over them when the two sides meet in the early hours of Saturday morning, UK time.Paraguay had missed out on the last three FIFA World Cup tournaments, with their previous appearance coming at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, but will make their grand return after 16 years of waiting. The South American side reached the quarter-final of that World Cup campaign before being knocked out 2-1 by eventual world champions Spain.Gustavo Alfaro’s side qualified for this year’s finals after securing sixth place in the final round of CONMEBOL qualifying fixtures, finishing level on 28 points with South American heavyweights Brazil and Uruguay.La Albirroja will be up against it as underdogs in terms of the US’ performance at the World Cup but also their record against them, having gone nine years without besting America in an international tournament.Their last victory came in the Copa América back in 2007 when they emerged 3-1 winners courtesy of goals from Édgar Barreto, Óscar René, and Salvador Cabañas at the Estadio Agustín Tovar in Venezuela.Paraguay possess several talents who could spoil the party in LA, including Strasbourg’s Julio Enciso, formerly of Brighton, and Miguel Almirón, who Premier League fans will remember for his pace and quick feet while at Newcastle. But Enciso was taken off on a stretcher in tears and clutching his knee after a collision just 25 minutes in Paraguay’s 4-0 win over Honduras in their final warm-up game, and it’s unclear whether Alfaro will be able to give him his World Cup debut. It could prove to be a cruel twist of fate for the 22-year-old after he dedicated his country’s qualification to his late grandfather who passed away in 2023, while he was still playing for the Seagulls in the Premier League. He said: “Dear grandpa, I dedicate this to you in heaven with all my heart. I always remember when you pointed at me and told me that one day I would be there. I dedicate this to him. He’s surely watching me from heaven.”Paraguay‘s long-awaited reunion with the United States will get underway at 02:00 (BST) and 09:00 (ET), with live coverage available on BBC One in the UK and both FOX and Telemundo for viewers over the pond.

We Have Uniform Numbers For The Marquette Men’s Basketball Newcomers
Who could have foreseen that these #21 pictures of Ian Miletic would turn into a limited edition situation?? | Credit: Marquette University The other day I was looking at some pictures and video clips coming out of the summer workouts for YOUR Marquette men’s basketball team. Nothing super impressive that needs a blog, just guys doing drills, go look at your social media of choice to see ‘em if you want. But I did realize that they were wearing the practice jerseys with the numbers on them, which made me ask the question: Hey, is the roster page updated for 2026-27 with numbers yet? Turns out the answer is YES, so that means we can check in on which newcomer going to be wearing what and the history of their choice.Let’s start with Ian Miletic, who is not new but merely coming off a redshirt season and changing his number along the way:Ian Miletic — #7It would appear that Ian Miletic had designs on wearing #7 from the get-go at Marquette, as his commitment graphic back in 2024 had him in a #7 jersey. However, when he arrived on campus a year ago, that number was already occupied by Zaide Lowery, and so he opted for #21 during his redshirt season. With Lowery leaving the team midseason and eventually transferring to Dayton, the number is available and Miletic has grabbed it up. As was the case with his option of #21, the door’s open for Miletic to be the best #7 in Marquette history. Part of that is merely the NCAA rules that stopped players from wearing it for decades. Lowery himself was the first #7 since the 1940s, and none of the previous #7’s, going all the way back to William Hughes in 1938, established themselves as program legends. Seems like Miletic merely has to clear the hurdle of Lowery’s season and a half with the number. And now in alphabetical order:Colton Crowdis — #6Remember when I noted that Zaide Lowery was the first #7 for Marquette since the 1940s? That’s the honor Colton Crowdis will carry for #6 when he checks into a game for the first time. There have been just three #6’s in MU history: Charles Hammer (1939-42), Donald Gerken (1943-44) and Joseph Evans (1945-46). None of them appear in the record book other than their spot on the letterwinners and jersey number lists, so there’s more than just an 80 year streak of no one in #6 on the line for Crowdis if he proves to be capable of contributing at the Division 1 level.Alex Egbuonu — #21We’re just doing a series of interconnected numbers here, it seems. Does Ian Miletic count as a #21 in MU history since he didn’t play in 2025-26? If Egbuonu manages to keep #21 for more than one season, he’ll be the first Golden Eagle to do so since Traci Carter had it in 2015-16 and 2016-17. Since Carter didn’t make it through two full seasons in Milwaukee, that would put Egbuonu chasing Joe Fulce as the last notable long term #21 on the roster, and he hasn’t worn it since 2011. There aren’t a notable pile of #21’s in Marquette history, with maybe Ulice Payne wearing it for the 1977 championship team as the standout. Sananda Fru — #11God bless Sananda Fru, but he has absolutely zero chance at being the best #11 in Marquette history. He won’t even be the best #11 that Shaka Smart coaches at Marquette, barring I guess the possibility that Fru ends up as the National Player of the Year. This is obviously because Tyler Kolek was a two-time consensus All-American at Marquette as #11.Heck, Fru is going to have a hard time being the most notable #11 in Marquette history, much less basketball team history. Back in the mid-1940s, Ray Eckstein wore #11 for MU, and seeing as his name is now on 1) the law school, 2) one of the two towers in The Commons, and 3) the grassy space between the AMU and Schroeder Hall, you can easily argue that Marquette students are going to be mentioning Ray Eckstein more over the years to come than they talk about Tyler Kolek on campus. TRIVIA TIME: Do you know who the last #11 for Marquette was before the program retired it in honor of the Apollo 11 mission that landed on the moon in 1969? It was Pat Smith, who is the player in the famous staged photo with Al McGuire after DePaul head coach Ray Meyer blew a gasket about a pair of ejections in a game against the Blue Demons. You can see his #11 peeking out from under his warmup jacket in the photo.Ethan Johnston — #33Have people been avoiding wearing #33 at Marquette because it was Jimmy Butler’s number? There have been just two since Butler was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft in 2011: Derrick Wilson the very next season, and Dawson Garcia in 2020-21. That’s it, two seasons in 15 years since Butler embarked on his probably Hall Of Fame caliber pro career. Is Butler the best #33 in Marquette history? The other obvious option is Bernard Toone, who played in the 1977 national championship game (scoring six points in six minutes!) and then led Marquette in scoring and rebounding as team captain in 1978-79. He’s still #43 on the all-time scoring chart — Butler is #34 — and Toone lands in a tie for the fifth most wins in program history behind three of his 1977 teammates and Earl Tatum, too.In either case, if Ethan Johnston becomes the best #33 in Marquette history, we’re all going to be very happy with how the next four years play out.Nolan Minessale — #4#4 will be back on the court for Marquette next fall after a one year layoff. Stevie Mitchell picked it up from Theo John, so that led to an active streak from 2017 through 2025. That’s a heck of a consistent run for a number that lay quiet after Gene Berce last wore it in 1948 until Dom Smolinski picked it back up in 1981. Seems like all the single digits have something like this in their history, which is very weird. Was there an NCAA rule about single digits like there was for digits greater than 5 for a long time or something? Anyway, Gene Berce was a heck of a #4 back in the day, leading Marquette in scoring in three different seasons, and his 17.7 per game mark in 1948 is still the 10th best all time for a MU junior. He is credited as the first Marquette player ever drafted by an NBA team, and until Don Kojis debuted in 1964, Berce was, at least according to the records I can track down, the only MU player to ever score in an NBA game. In a nice little connection, Berce was also a Marquette High School graduate, just like Minessale.Follow Anonymous Eagle on social mediaFacebook: AnonymousEagleInstagram: AnonymousEagleSBNBluesky: AnonymousEagle

A key US government surveillance program is set to expire. A look at what that means
The U.S. Capitol is seen from Pennsylvania Avenue, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson)2026-06-12T10:57:17Z WASHINGTON (AP) — A key surveillance tool seen as vital in preventing terror attacks and catching foreign spies is set to expire Friday after congressional efforts to temporarily extend it failed in bipartisan fashion. It’s a significant lapse for the program known as Section 702, and even as President Donald Trump nominates a new national intelligence director more palatable to both Republicans and Democrats than his initial pick, it’s unclear how soon lawmakers — set for recess — would be able to revive the spy program.Still, there may not be an immediate drop-off given that a court order from March authorized these government surveillance powers to remain in effect for another year. Section 702 allows for sweeping powers to sift through foreign communicationsThe provision is a part of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, known as FISA, and grants American spy agencies sweeping powers to collect and examine the communications of foreigners located outside the United States without first getting a warrant. U.S. officials see the law as an invaluable national security tool that has helped disrupt potential acts of terrorism, yielded valuable insight into ransomware attacks on critical infrastructure and contributed to the killing of al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri in a 2022 drone strike. The law was passed in 2008 as an effort to codify key aspects of a predecessor spy program created by President George W. Bush’s Republican administration.Since then, officials across administrations of both major political parties have warned that without the law the government won’t be able to collect crucial intelligence overseas. The program’s renewal historically has been contentiousThe periodic need to reauthorize the law has prompted protracted debate in Congress well before this year, including discussion over whether additional guardrails are needed to protect the privacy of Americans and their personal data. That’s because when the government eavesdrops on foreigners abroad, it also sweeps up the communications of American citizens and others in the U.S. who are in contact with those surveillance targets.Civil liberties advocates have raised concerns over revelations that FBI analysts over the years have improperly queried the vast repository of intelligence collected through the program for information about Americans, including related to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters and the racial justice protests of 2020, as well as about state and federal political figures. Read More Some of those advocates have said the government should be required to have a warrant before examining communications collected from Americans. U.S. officials have said that a warrant would be legally unnecessary and overly cumbersome and that corrective measures have been implemented to reduce the number of improper queries. Complicating the debate is the unlikely political alliances it has produced, uniting a coalition of lawmakers skeptical of government surveillance that includes both privacy-minded liberal Democrats and Republicans who still regard the intelligence community with suspicion over the investigation of ties between Russia and Trump’s 2016 Republican presidential campaign. The holdup this time is tied to pushback over acting intelligence pick Bill PulteDemocrats balked when Trump picked Bill Pulte to serve as acting national intelligence director and refused to support a FISA extension until the selection was withdrawn. Pulte, a Trump loyalist with no known national security experience, has set off alarms by using his perch as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency to facilitate dubious mortgage fraud investigations of perceived Trump adversaries.A House vote this week that would have temporarily extended the program collapsed, with 19 Republicans and nearly all Democrats rejecting the temporary measure, 198-218. A Senate effort to approve its own versions also failed. After those votes, Trump announced he was tapping Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan who previously served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, as his permanent pick for director of national intelligence, or DNI. The pick was warmly received on Capitol Hill, but it was not enough to break the impasse before Friday’s scheduled expiration. Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said that he has “known and respected” Clayton for decades and that had he been tapped a week ago, “lots of pain might have been avoided.”“His intelligence, temperament and deep commitment to public service will make him a terrific DNI,” Himes said. The next steps for the spy powers provisionRepublican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have warned the Trump administration to prepare “for a potential significant gap in foreign intelligence collection.”The expiration is likely to be the first meaningful lapse of Section 702 since it was created more than 15 years ago. In 2024, the Senate barely missed its midnight deadline before voting to approve a bill that was then signed by President Joe Biden, a Democrat, creating a brief lapse.Despite this year’s lapse, there’s no expectation of any immediate drop-off in intelligence collection as the U.S. hosts a series of events this summer with potential national security concerns, including the World Cup and festivities surrounding the 250th birthday of the United States.A March opinion from the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court certified the program’s renewal for another year, meaning that Section 702’s authority is expected to remain intact for months.Even so, it’s conceivable that without congressional reauthorization, communications companies could try to cease cooperating with the government and stop complying with orders that it assist in intelligence collection.___Associated Press writers Mary Clare Jalonick, Lisa Mascaro and Seung Min Kim contributed to this report. Behind the Blog: World Cup Madness and Film Reviews
This is Behind the Blog, where we share our behind-the-scenes thoughts about how a few of our top stories of the week came together. This week, we discuss Trump fucking up the World Cup, some thoughts on ICE coverage, and movies. JASON: I have been meaning for weeks to write an article with a headline like: Donald Trump and FIFA Have Really Fucked Up the World Cup, but I never really honed in on the exact correct thesis or argument to make, but I’m gonna ramble a bit here in the BTB in hopes it shakes loose something in my head that I can turn into a more coherent article later. It was going to be part of a bigger piece or series of pieces I’ve been meaning to do about live events in general, which make the basic argument that live ticket prices—for sports, concerts, everything—are simply too high, and it’s an entirely artificial problem that is having an actually negative effect on sports, the music industry, and the local communities that venues and stadiums nominally are there to serve.

Roma Primed to Walk a Very Fine Line Financially
Roma Primed to Walk a Very Fine Line FinanciallyRoma will have to thread the needle in the summer, as their ownership is ready to splurge on some signings but, at the same time, they wish to reduce the payroll. The Giallorossi will have about €100M net to spend, plus what they’ll pocket from the sales, Corriere dello Sport informs. On the other hand, their wages bill currently amounts to roughly €140M. The Friedkin family wants it to get below the eight-digit threshold. Their new cap will be €4.5M per year. Paulo Dybala, who was earning €8M in 2025/2026, and Lorenzo Pellegrini must agree to stay below that threshold to prolong their expiring deals.Roma will step up their efforts to bring in new players after June 30th. Gian Piero Gasperini would like to avoid selling any centerpiece, which could easily occur because of their settlement agreement. The matter will go down to the wire. They could ask for a last-minute postponement to next year, but it’ll depend on the offers. While such a decision would prevent meaningful departures, their finances would remain under heavy scrutiny.Mason Greenwood continues to be the Giallorossi’s top priority. They aim to shell out €45M for him, but Olympique Marseille want more and isn’t in a hurry. Kerim Alajbegovic and Gianluca Scamacca are next on their shortlist. Then, they’d like to onboard a starting-level wing-back and have earmarked Dodo, Carlos Augusto, Davide Zappacosta, and Costantino Favasuli. Our Take on RomaLimiting wages has become a common strategy to be sustainable, but it’ll also mean that they’ll be priced out for certain players. It shouldn’t be a big issue this year, but it might be in the future if they keep improving and aspire to win trophies.

Man United pinpoint exact trigger behind Andre Onana’s nightmare spell
Man United pinpoint exact trigger behind Andre Onana’s nightmare spell Manchester United have reportedly identified why Andre Onana struggled at the club, as his exit looms closer.End of the roadOnana is expected to leave United in the upcoming window following his difficulties since joining the side from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.He arrived to much fanfare and expectation after a positive stint in Italy, where he earned rave reviews for his performances, especially on the ball.He found it difficult to replicate his best form at United, delivering several displays that came at a heavy cost to his team, especially in the Champions League. Those mistakes then bled into the Premier League, leaving him with no clear path back.At one point, he almost became a symbol of ridicule. United loaned him out to Trabzonspor last summer. He spent the 2025/26 campaign with the Turkish Super Lig outfit, who have made it clear they wish to keep him.Onana is widely believed to be keen on a chance to fight for his place at United but Senne Lammens stands out as the undisputed starter after a dream maiden campaign in England. The best outcome seems to be a separation of ways. Now, Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun claims that United believe a change in the goalkeeping coach is largely to blame for Onana’s struggles at Old Trafford.Root causeLuckhurst writes, “Onana, 30, had such a good rapport with Jelle ten Rouwelaar that staff noticed a sudden drop-off almost as soon as Ruben Amorim took over in November 2024.”When Ruben Amorim came in for Ten Hag in the United dugout, he replaced Ten Rouwelaar with Jorge Vital, whom he worked with at Sporting CP. Ten Rouwelaar had only been at United for four months before his exit. The Dutch goalkeeping coach arrived at United after Richard Hartis left.Luckhurst adds, “Ten Rouwelaar was praised by United’s goalkeeping union for his innovative methods and he quickly struck up a warm rapport with Onana at United’s pre-season tour base in Los Angeles.”“Onana also had a tight relationship with his former Ajax manager Ten Hag, whereas he found Amorim to be more distant and closer to fellow Portuguese Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.”United forked out £47.2m to secure Onana’s services from Milan. They are unlikely to get anything close to that if he leaves.Featured image Clive Rose via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Dani Wexelman, Katie Nolan finding ways for women to join the tarps off trend
Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn ImagesWomen have been shut out from the tarps-off phenomenon exploding in Major League Baseball and other sports, but Dani Wexelman and Katie Nolan want to change that. The viral trend that sees men of varying ages strip off their shirts and wave them around like rally towels began last year in college football, but it emerged at a St. Louis Cardinals game earlier this season and has since spread to games across Major League Baseball. Naturally, women have not wanted to take their shirts off among other sports fans, but that shouldn’t exclude them from participating in the trend.Cardinals reporter Dani Wexelman joined Katie Nolan on her Mad Dog Sports Radio show on SiriusXM this week, where they discussed ways of getting women involved.Girls just want to have fun too!@katienolan & @DaniWex have officially entered the discussion about MLB’s viral “Tarps Off” movement… Baseball may never recover Listen to Katie’s show Fan Service: https://t.co/QwtC5RBF1rpic.twitter.com/p7nU9cxf5B— Mad Dog Sports Radio (@MadDogRadio) June 10, 2026“Tarps off is a phenomenon,” Wexelman noted. “And I have been thinking hard about this because women deserve to participate in the section, but I don’t think they’re going to take their tarps off, so we need to come up with an alternative…they deserve to be in the section too.”Nolan suggested women could take their pants off and participate that way — assuming they have underpants on — but then decided a pants-off trend wouldn’t work as well as tarps off because it would be harder to notice on the broadcast. Wexelman said maybe a “tarps off” shirt or rally towel might be sufficient, but this is still an untested working concept for women.“Men love to take their tops off and swing it around their heads,” Wexelman explained. “Their bellies are hanging out…but they don’t care, they’re unabashedly just being themselves.”A month ago, fans who weren’t going topless at sporting events probably expected the trend to fade before inventing a way for women to safely participate. But as we enter the warmer months of the baseball season, tarps off still seems to be growing in popularity. And if the trend is going to keep growing, then why not find ways of bringing in new participants? But maybe keep their pants on.The post Dani Wexelman, Katie Nolan finding ways for women to join the tarps off trend appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Broncos roster: S Talanoa Hufanga (No. 9) looks to build on career year
Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at sixth-year safety, Talanoa Hufanga, No. 9.Before the Broncos: Hufanga (6-0, 200 pounds) was a fifth-round draft pick (180th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft. In his second season, Hufanga was a part of the Niners' defense which took them all the way to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. He set then-career highs for total tackles, sacks, and earned first-team All-Pro honors, as well as his very first Pro Bowl nod. Hufanga dealt with injury issues in 2023 and 2024 which limited him to just 17 games in two years. Hufanga finished his service in San Francisco playing in 47 games (39 starts), making 219 total tackles (140 solo, 79 assisted), 14 pass deflections, two sacks, forcing two fumbles, and intercepting seven passes, returning one for a touchdown.Broncos tenure: Hufanga signed a three-year deal worth up to $45 million with the Broncos prior to start of the 2025 season. In his first year with Denver, Hufanga helped the Broncos' defense be one of the top units in the NFL, leading the league in sacks. On a personal front, he had an outstanding first season, setting career highs in pass deflections (11), total tackles (106), solo tackles (67), assisted tackles (39) and tackles for loss (six), en route to second-team All-Pro honors. Hufanga could have also had several interceptions throughout the season, but the football was either not secured or knocked out of his hands by teammates and opponents.Chances to make the 53-man roster: Near-lock. While one should never say never, Hufanga is poised to return to the top of his game in 2026. If Hufanga continues to stay healthy, he will be a force to be reckoned with as the last man on the field for the Broncos' defense.Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! James Talarico slams Republicans for focusing on his gender: “Here’s what real men don’t do…”
Republicans are making accusations of being gay, trans, or just not masculine enough, the central issue in the Senate race in Texas this year, accusing state Rep. and Democratic candidate James Talarico of being too light in his loafers because he supports trans people’s rights and because he is, according to Republicans, a secret vegan. Earlier this week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined in the attacks on Talarico and said, “If you were making a list of 1,000 adjectives to describe this guy, ‘masculine’ would not be one of them.” Related GOP gov posts picture of James Talarico as a woman while attacking his climate action bill MS NOW host Jen Psaki asked Talarico about Cruz’s statement, pointing out that the gender bullying is also an attack on LGBTQ+ people generally. They don’t sell their soul to the highest bidder. They don’t steal from other people in order to enrich themselves.” These comments were likely directed at his opponent in the Senate race, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has faced numerous corruption allegations for decades. “Real men serve others, weak men serve themselves. Friday Flakes: Nebraska Basketball Earning Respect – Ranked in Way-Too-Early Top 25
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA - MARCH 19: Head coach Fred Hoiberg of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Braden Frager #5 of the Nebraska Cornhuskers celebrate their win against the Troy Trojans in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Paycom Center on March 19, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images) | Getty Images We have been there time and time again. Our favorite team in one of our favorite sports is left out of the way-to-early Top 25. We have rationalized our way into think that our team led by Scott Frost and Adrian Martine should be in preseason Top 25. The good old days.Well fast forward to the better old days as some of the Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings are coming out for college basketball and based off of my sports fan PTSD I expected Nebraska basketball to be left out of most, if not all, Top 25 lists. It was easy to see why. In 2025-2026, Nebraska basketball had the best season in program history and maybe it was that they lucked into having the right combination of players at the right time. Nebraska lost Reink Mast, Jamarques Lawrence and Sam Hoiberg to eligibility. They also lost an athletic big man in Berke Buyuktuncel to Vanderbilt of all teams through the transfer portal. That is four starters from the best team in the history of the program that will not be coming back. Well apparently Fred Hoiberg and Co. are starting to receive some deserved respect. Jeff Borzello, of ESPN.com, has Nebraska ranked #22 in the preseason poll. That is just one of the way-too-early preseason polls that have Nebraska ranked. Not all of them have Nebraska in the Top 25, which should be expected, but it was a pleasant surprise to see Fred Hoiberg getting some of his due. As far as Borzello’s Top 25, the other Big Ten teams in his ranking are: Michigan (#3), Illinois (#4), Michigan State (#8), and USC (#12). He had Purdue, Indiana and UCLA in his next five out. On a related note, Borzello has Vanderbilt ranked 19th and does not have Berke in his projected starting lineup. Nebraska Welcomes Several Key Official Visitors This WeekendNebraska added six commitments from last weekend’s official visitors. No one expects those numbers again this weekend, but there are several recruits who play positions of need in the 2027 class. The Huskers pulled off a big flip last weekend and will have another opportunity, hosting a couple of their top remaining cornerback and interior offensive line targets. Here is your official visitor preview for Nebraska this weekend:Ranking the Big Ten: Interior Defensive LineAs the 2026 college football season quickly approaches, it is time to look at the top players at each position in the Big Ten.We will continue our Ranking the Big Ten series with a look at the interior defensive line. Dodgers injuries are piling up
Los Angeles, CA - June 06: Will Smith #16 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on in the sixth inning of a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angeles at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 6, 2026. (Photo by Keith Birmingham/MediaNews Group/Pasadena Star-News via Getty Images) | MediaNews Group via Getty Images The Dodgers escaped a turbulent series at PNC Park in Pittsburgh with a series win over the Pirates, but Thursday’s victory was dulled somewhat with Shohei Ohtani leaving with left knee inflammation and pitcher Justin Wrobleski suffering a right hamstring contusion.Wrobleski took a comebacker from Bryan Reynolds off the hamstring in the fifth inning, then nearly collided with Reynolds at first base on the infield single. Wrobleski told reporters after the game nothing came of the play at first base.“Thankfully he kind of got out of the way enough so that we barely touched each other,” Wrobleski said, as shown on SportsNet LA. “He’s okay, I’m okay.”Ohtani felt discomfort in his left knee, the same knee he had surgery on in September 2019 to repair a bipartite patella. It’s unknown when Ohtani might have suffered the discomfort. Manager Dave Roberts told reporters it might have been on a stolen base attempt in the fourth inning, on a pitch Andy Pages fouled off, though he wasn’t sure.Roberts was optimistic about Ohtani being in the lineup on Friday against the Chicago White Sox, depending on how he feels, and that Wrobleski would make his next start.“We tried to be smart about it,” Roberts said, as shown on SportsNet LA. “I feel good about him being in there [Friday in Chicago] but obviously with the travel tonight, we’ll see how he comes in.”Optimism is one thing, and Roberts possesses it in spades, but there’s only so much one can know in the immediate aftermath of an injury. Will Smith, for instance, was scratched from last Saturday’s starting lineup at Dodger Stadium with a stiff neck. Roberts at the time noted Dalton Rushing was going to catch one of the games against the Angels anyway, and that Smith might be able to catch on Sunday. Then when Smith was held out of Sunday’s lineup, the classic logic of pairing time off with a scheduled off day prevailed, with the hope of three full days but only two games off might do the trick. It didn’t work, as Smith’s neck pain persisted, and he was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with neck inflammation. The move was retroactive to Monday, which means Smith could conceivably return as soon as the series at home against the Baltimore Orioles next weekend, June 19-21.Chuckie Robinson got the call-up to fill in as the backup catcher. He told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA on Thursday that his grandfather grew up a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Robinson, who last year had two stints on the 40-man roster and played in one game last September for the Dodgers before re-signing on a minor league deal in December was hitting .260/.321/.442 with four doubles, two home runs, and two triples for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The plan for the 31-year-old Robinson is to catch once in each of the next two series — Friday against the White Sox, and Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays — Roberts told reporters prior to the series finale in Pittsburgh. Note this wrinkle though from Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.#Dodgers Dave Roberts said Chuckie Robinson will start Friday in Chicago then again Tuesday at home to give Dalton Rushing breaks. Roberts said he wants Rushing to catch Ohtani on Wednesday— Bill Plunkett (@billplunkettocr) June 11, 2026This was obviously before Ohtani’s knee inflammation, and we don’t yet know how his pitching (or hitting) plans might be affected by the injury. But Ohtani starting Wednesday — before a scheduled off day, as the Dodgers have done four times previously this year — would require a bit of rotation shuffling, as staying in order would have Ohtani start on Tuesday at home. So this means either Wrobleski moves up to start on four days rest — again, if his hamstring allows — something the Dodgers have only done once this season, or they opt for either a bullpen game or a spot start to cover Tuesday against Tampa Bay.River Ryan, conveniently enough, pitched on Wednesday this week for Triple-A Oklahoma City, and would be on five days rest on Tuesday.Back to Thursday’s roster move for a moment. Chuckie Robinson was not on the 40-man roster, but room was created when infielder/outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald was released by the Dodgers on Wednesday. The former Giants utility man was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on April 28 for cash considerations, and hit .293/.400/.598 with a 146 wRC+, six home runs and seven doubles in 24 games for Oklahoma City. Fitzgerald, 28, with the Comets started games at third base, second base, shortstop, left field and right field.

NFL writer explains why Riq Woolen could offer Eagles major upgrade
The Philadelphia Eagles entered the offseason with one of the NFL's most promising young secondaries. Quinyon Mitchell looked every bit the part of a future star during his rookie campaign, while Cooper DeJean quickly established himself as a versatile playmaker capable of impacting games from multiple alignments.Still, even successful defenses have room for improvement. That's one reason Philadelphia made the move to acquire Riq Woolen. The former Pro Bowler brings size, speed, and proven production to a secondary that already featured plenty of talent. The numbers tell an interesting Eagles storyRecently, NFL analyst Dan Pizzuta hung out with Mina Kimes and explained why he believes Woolen could have a substantial impact on the Eagles' defense, using advanced analytics to support his argument.Pizzuta's analysis centered on DVOA, which stands for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average. The metric evaluates efficiency on every play while accounting for game situation and quality of competition. Rather than focusing solely on raw statistics, DVOA measures how successful a player or team is relative to league averages.“Last year the Eagles were 2nd in DVOA vs #1 WRs…and 24th vs #2 WRs.”On the pod, @danpizzuta explained why Tariq Woolen is his X Factor pick for Philadelphia. pic.twitter.com/A9w10zBBxG— Mina Kimes (@minakimes) June 10, 2026For many fans, however, there's a simpler way to understand the point Pizzuta was making. When opposing quarterbacks targeted Quinyon Mitchell last season, they generally experienced far less success than when they threw toward the Eagles' other outside cornerback. At various points during the season, that responsibility fell to Adoree' Jackson. While Jackson's play improved as the year progressed, the overall difference remained noticeable. Simply put, offenses were far more comfortable testing the side of the field opposite Mitchell. Woolen could change the equation. The Eagles aren't asking him to be the centerpiece of the secondary. Mitchell has already established himself as one of the defense's foundational pieces, and Cooper DeJean appears set to continue thriving in the slot. What Philadelphia needs is a reliable outside corner capable of making quarterbacks think twice before attacking either boundary. If Woolen can provide that, the ripple effects could be significant. Instead of offenses identifying a preferred matchup, they could find themselves facing quality coverage no matter where they look.Whether Woolen and Mitchell eventually develop into an Eagles cornerback tandem worthy of comparison to Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent or Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown remains to be seen. Those are lofty expectations. Still, the vision is clear. Philadelphia believes Woolen can help eliminate a weakness offenses targeted at times last season, and the analytics suggest that belief may be well-founded.This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: NFL writer explains why Riq Woolen could offer Eagles major upgrade

Lamar Jackson embraces tough coaching from Declan Doyle
If there was any question about how Lamar Jackson would respond to being coached hard entering his ninth NFL season, the Ravens quarterback answered it with a smile.Throughout the offseason, one recurring theme surrounding Baltimore's new coaching staff has been accountability. Whether it's Jesse Minter stressing discipline, players being pulled for pre-snap mistakes, or coaches demanding attention to detail, the message has been consistent across the building. For Jackson, that standard starts with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.Leading up to one of the funniest moments of minicamp, Jackson explained why he enjoys working with Doyle despite the coordinator's demanding approach."I love that coaching. I'm a coachable player."Jackson believes the relationship works because communication goes both ways."Sometimes Declan Doyle sees things that I don't see, and sometimes I see things that he might not have thought of, and it's great to piggyback off each other."That dynamic was on full display during a recent practice when Jackson made a mistake on a play he was supposed to execute differently.Recounting the exchange, Jackson laughed as he told reporters exactly what happened."Declan Doyle was like, 'Lamar, what the F are you doing?' I was like, 'Damn, that's on me.'"While the story generated laughs, Jackson said there was no issue with the coaching."He was just being a coach — nothing more, nothing less."For a two-time MVP, that willingness to accept coaching speaks volumes. Jackson isn't approaching the season like a veteran who has seen it all. Instead, he's embracing the challenge of learning a completely new offense and welcomes a coordinator who refuses to let details slide. If the Ravens are going to reach the explosive potential Jackson has talked about throughout the offseason, it will likely start with the kind of accountability he and Doyle are building together now. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Lamar Jackson welcomes tough coaching from Declan Doyle

How Rachaad White’s receiving ability can impact Commanders running backs
Dan Quinn was asked about the Commanders running back room and the competition. This type of question always prompts a list of names and traits associated with them, and Washington’s head coach obliged that type of response. He started with newcomer and fifth-year veteran Rachaad White. What he said was interesting. “I’ve been pleased with the additions that we’ve had,” Quinn said after Tuesday’s OTA session. “So, seeing Rachaad out of the backfield catching it, he was on the return game the other week; he’s got great hands, so what does he add into it on some third downs?” Get used to seeing this a lot this season.Commanders RB Rachaad White catching passes out of the backfield. pic.twitter.com/kS8krQazZo— Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) June 9, 2026That’s an important question as we move forward. How does White fit into the overall offensive picture? The Commanders have second-year standout Bill Croskey-Merritt in the fold and he’ll demand a high carry count. Optimism’s high for sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen. Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols and undrafted free agent Robert Henry Jr. are also in the mix. The Commanders signed White after four seasons in Tampa Bay. He was a featured back earlier in his career, but had a solid 2025 season as part of a running back rotation. He had 572 yards on 132 carries with, per NFL NextGen Stats, a 50% rushing success rate and a plus-10.8 rushing EPA. That’s a major upgrade after three seasons of rushing EPAs deep into the negatives. He should take some carries on early downs, but back to Quinn’s question. How will White function on third downs and has a receiver out of the backfield? He’s not an old school scatback at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, but he’s a solid pass protector with good hands. Rachaad White can run and he can make plays like this as a receiver! He will fit in perfect back with Jayden Daniels. pic.twitter.com/E8nDNqK9ET— Zac (@DCzWall) March 12, 2026His receiving stats weren’t great in 2025 (40 receptions, 218 yards), but he has a quality track record in this area. He had 64 receptions for 549 yards and three touchdowns in 2023 and a plus-20.2 receiving EPA. He doesn’t drop passes and can make plays down the field. Those are all pluses for what we believe new offensive coordinator David Blough is installing in Washington. “I mesh with the system,” White said in his post-OTA presser. “I think it’s great. All the things he does for it and the positions he puts us in, I think it’s great. It’s going to be really fun.” White is also reuniting with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, a former college teammate at Arizona State. “It’s fun,” Daniels said a few weeks back. “I mean, just the player he is and he had the opportunity to go anywhere else and he chose here, so salute to him and obviously I’ve been knowing him since I was like 19, so it is fun to kind of just get him back in the same building and build off that rapport we have.” There’s a rapport building within the running back room during the offseason program, that should pay off in training camp when the pads come on. That’s when we’ll get a better sense of this rushing attack. “I think I fit in great,” White said. “It’s a talented room. We all compete against one another, but we all have fun and I just enjoy it. My game is my game and who I am. I’ve been in the league for five years, so I feel like I bring wisdom, juice and energy.”

Barcelona midfielder would prefer reunion with ex-teammate in Saudi Arabia over Al Hilal move
Barcelona midfielder would prefer reunion with ex-teammate in Saudi Arabia over Al Hilal moveMarc Casado is one of the few players whose future at FC Barcelona is far from secured heading into the summer transfer window. The La Masia graduate saw his standing in the team take a hit during last season when he fell down the pecking order under Hansi Flick. With a number of players already ahead of him, a summer exit has been talked about, with the homegrown star now accepting his fate.Casado would like to reunite with Inigo Martinez at Al NassrAs already reported, there has been speculation that Casado could be offered to Al Hilal as part of the operation to bring Joao Cancelo permanently to Barcelona.Casado open to Inigo Martinez reunion in Saudi Arabia. (Photo by Yasser Bakhsh/Getty Images)However, according to Mundo Deportivo, in case of a transfer to Saudi Arabia, the midfielder would prefer a move to Al Nassr, where he would reunite with former teammate Inigo Martinez.Casado’s agent, Jorge Mendes, who also represents Cancelo, has discussed the midfielder with Al Hilal, who are going through some changes in their sporting hierarchy at the moment. However, if he were to move to Saudi Arabia, Casado’s preferred destination would be Al Nassr, where former Barcelona defender Martinez is currently playing. The veteran Spaniard left the Blaugrana to join Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr last summer. And Casado is believed to view that option as a more comfortable environment in which to continue his development.Barcelona to seek €25 million for CasadoIn case of a standalone transfer, Barcelona are expected to demand a fee of around €25 million for Casado in the summer.Time up for Casado. (Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images)Despite the midfielder showing promise in the past couple of seasons, it has become apparent that he no longer holds a prominent role in Flick’s plans. As things stand, Casado finds himself behind Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, Gavi, and even Eric Garcia in the pecking order in midfield.Given the situation, it makes complete sense for the youngster to seek an exit in search of regular minutes while the club would welcome the financial boost from his departure. With Mendes hard at work to find a new destination for Casado, only time will tell where he ends up in the coming days, even as Barcelona hope to finalise his exit by June 30, when the accounting period for the current financial year closes.

Florida football targets to watch during the weekend's official visits
As Jon Sumrall looks to round out the 2027 class, Florida football is hosting another group of prospects for official visits this weekend. The Gators have four spots available and are hoping to capture at least one more five-star commitment as the cycle draws to a close. The most notable campus visit is flip target and No. 1 overall recruit Jalen Brewster, who will be making his third visit to Florida in the last several months. The 6-foot-3-inch, 302-pound, five-star defensive lineman committed to Texas Tech back in October, but opened the door for Sumrall and company with his continued engagement.Rival national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong views Florida as the "biggest threat to the Red Raiders." Following his official visit to Texas, Wiltfong reported that Brewster's father said "everyone is equal," referring to the contenders in his son's recruitment. Tech will be Brewster's final official visit on June 19. Another flip candidate for Florida is five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, who committed to Texas last November. The 5-foot-11-inch, 200-pound prospect is regarded as the No. 1 receiver in the class.Other players to keep an eye on include Raheem Floyd, a four-star cornerback from East St. Louis who is coming off an official visit to Missouri. Wiltfong has Florida firmly in the mix, but believes that the Tigers hold a slight edge. Wiltfong suggests that, with Floyd on campus, the Gators have a chance to sway the 6-foot-2-inch, 170-pound blue-chip defensive back.Marquis Evans is another name to watch out for. The 6-foot-3-inch, 235-pound Spain Park High School prospect is coming off visits to Tennessee, Miami and Auburn before making his way to Gainesville. Clemson is reportedly the leader for Four-star Lakeside High School safety Seth Williams, but Florida will get to make its case with the Peach State native this weekend.Florida has 23 total commits in the 2027 cycle, with 16 of those pledges rated four-stars or better. It is the 4th-ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports composite and No. 3 according to ESPN's latest national rankings.Follow us @GatorsWire on X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Bluesky, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida Gators news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Gators Wire: Florida football official visit targets to keep an eye on this weekend

'Shubman Gill hasn't really settled down yet': Ex-India cricketer sounds alarm over ODI captaincy
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has pointed out that Shubman Gill still has work to do as India's ODI captain, despite enjoying considerable success with the bat. Ahead of India's upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, Chopra reflected on Gill's record as leader in the 50-over format and suggested that the young skipper is yet to fully establish himself in the role.India head into the series after registering a commanding victory in a one-off Test match. The ODI leg begins on June 13 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, with Gill once again leading the side.Gill took over ODI captaincy duties from Rohit Sharma, but results have not gone India's way so far. Under his leadership, India have played six ODIs, winning only two and losing four. The team also suffered a 1-2 home series defeat against New Zealand in January 2026.Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra highlighted the numbers behind Gill's start as ODI captain."Shubman Gill has captained in six matches, and we have lost both series. We have won only two matches, one in Australia and one against New Zealand. So, Shubman Gill, as a captain in this format, hasn't really settled down yet," Chopra said on his YouTube channel Aakash Chopra.Despite the disappointing results, Chopra feels the Afghanistan series presents an ideal opportunity for Gill to turn things around and begin building a stronger record as captain."That's a big story. You want to change that thing. You really want him to just stamp his authority, although he is not stopping with the bat. He has scored runs as a captain as well, and he will continue to score runs. Considering the kind of form he is in, you will look towards him to score runs," he continued. While questions remain over his captaincy record, Gill's performances as a batter in ODI cricket have been exceptional. Since making his debut against New Zealand in 2019, the Punjab batter has accumulated 2,953 runs in 61 matches at an impressive average of 55.72. He is also among an exclusive group of just five Indian players to have scored a double century in ODI cricket, underlining his stature as one of the format's premier batters. 131686472

Elite pass rusher JaBarrius Garror commits to Texas
Courtesy 247Sports The Texas Longhorns continue to make recruiting waves in deep SEC country with the addition of Mobile (Ala.) Vigor edge rusher JaBarrius Garror to the 2027 recruiting class on Friday morning, the second big-time commitment in two days for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff.View LinkThe consensus four-star edge rusher was a coveted prospect from teams all across the country, reporting 30 offers, including 13 from the SEC. While it appeared to be a final group of Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, and Texas, only the Longhorns, Tigers, and Bulldogs received summer visits with Texas landing the final opportunity to host him on campus.Garror has played varsity snaps since his freshman year at Vigor, becoming a massive pass-rushing threat as a sophomore. Over the last two seasons, he’s turned in 210 total tackles, 88.5 tackles for loss and 42.5 sacks, leading the Wolves’ defense as they made playoff runs in both seasons. Measuring 6’2, 215 pounds, Garror ranks No. 107 overall in the Rivals/On3 Composite rankings and as the No. 12 edge rusher in the country.View LinkGarror steps in as the third-highest ranked player and blue-chip No. 8 in the class, just 11 spots ahead of Mansfield Summit edge Cameron Hall. He is the third edge to join the 2027 class, alongside Hall and Brookhaven (Miss.) defender Derwin Fields for new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s defensive unit. The Texas class now boasts 14 pledges and is up to No. 19 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.Texas expects to add more talent as they reap the seeds from the May and June visit windows, getting more elite players to spend time on the Forty Acres.Analysis (by Daniel Seahorn):Jabarrius Garror out of Mobile is affectionately known as “Chicken” by friends and family. I can already see the NIL deals getting brainstormed by his marketing team. I am going to put this upfront, so we can get it out of the way. You will have a very hard time finding a more productive edge rusher in the country. I would put Garror’s counting stats up against any prospect out there and I would force you to show your work and put the tape on so I could see it with my own eyes. Garror is ranked as the TWELTH best edge prospect in the country by 247Sports’ composite rankings that take every network ranking into account. That feels too low after getting a chance to watch his tape — Garror has tallied 88.5 tackles for loss and 42.5 sacks over his past two years on the varsity levels. Those are not typos. The last time I saw that kind of eye popping production I was breaking down Colin Simmons three years ago, and even Simmons’ production fall short of what Garror has done so far at the high school level. I’m not saying Garror is going to be a three-and-done guy and likely top-10 pick like Simmons is about to be for Texas, but brothers and sisters, he has a chance to be a dude at the collegiate level. Garror terrorizes offenses in several ways, as he lines up both on the edge as well as off the backer in the middle of the defense at times on tape. Garror possesses a good get off at the snap and shows twitch and savvy to how he manipulates tackles as a pass rusher. Does a good job of threatening the upfield shoulder with his speed rush and is able to get dip back underneath tackles to get the quarterback. Shows the ability to run the arc, which leads to tackles being very wary of him beating them over the top. Shows good use of his hands with the ability to strike and shed blockers and competently uses them as a pass rusher. Junior tape shows snaps of him lined up off the ball and being able to hold his own in coverage, including making plays on the football for PBUs. Plays the game fast and is relentless, as he is always in constant pursuit of the ball carrier and is always in the frame of the play. Garror was previously committed to Alabama, and honestly I am not sure how the in-state powers let a guy like this cross the state lines and play elsewhere. If you can add some more mass to him and he can still maintain his athleticism, you have a guy who has a chance to be something nasty at the next level.

Knicks owner James Dolan loses battle with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani
Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images, ohn Jones-Imagn ImagesThe New York Knicks are up 3-1 in the NBA Finals after hosting the San Antonio Spurs for Games 3 and 4 and splitting the homestand. Unfortunately, much of the discourse surrounding the game was dominated by matters unrelated to basketball, namely United States President Donald Trump, New York Knicks owner James Dolan, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.Trump, somewhat controversially, attended Game 3 in Madison Square Garden, taking the game in from a suite and making history as the first sitting president to attend the WNBA Finals. The President’s attendance led to increased security around the venue, as well as the cancellation of watch parties outside of the arena, as has been the norm during New York’s impressive playoff run. However, Game 4’s watch party outside of MSG was also cancelled, despite Trump not attending. Dolan said that the onus of the blame for the cancellation was on Knicks mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch.“They don’t want the celebration. I can’t tell you why they don’t want the celebration, right? I’m not sure they know why they don’t want the celebration, but they clearly don’t want it,” Dolan said ahead of Game 4.Knicks owner James Dolan is at odds with Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch over security measures outside Madison Square Garden. pic.twitter.com/HnnrP0VJAh— Knicks Fan TV (@KnicksFanTv) June 10, 2026Mamdani refuted Dolan’s claims, asserting that Madison Square Garden requested a permit for a watch party of up to 999 people and that the permit was granted, implying saying that the watch party’s cancellation was solely at Dolan’s discretion.Ultimately, Mamdani got the last laugh, as noted by business analyst Aakash Gupta, when he pulled off broadcasting the game for free on public digital screens across New York City.“The NBA just did something leagues almost never do: side against one of its own owners, in his own market, during the Finals,” Gupta posted on X.“Live broadcast rights are the most protected asset in sports. Disney and friends paid $76B in the latest media deal partly for moments exactly like this. Bars need licenses just to show games. Yet within hours of James Dolan pulling the plug on the watch party outside his own arena, the league cleared New York City to stream Game 4 free on public street furniture.“Dolan’s stated reason for canceling: a 999-person cap was an insult when ‘we’re about millions of people.’ So the city took him literally. LinkNYC runs roughly 2,000 kiosks across the five boroughs, built on the corpse of the old payphone franchise. Dolan controls the Garden. The city controls every sidewalk around it. One detail makes the whole thing sting. MSG requested the 999-person permit itself, then canceled when it was approved. Owners win these standoffs when they own the only screen in town. Dolan just found out the city has two thousand of them.”Ultimately, if the Knicks can win one of the next three games and win the franchise’s first title in 53 years, the vibes in New York may be so good that Mamdani and Dolan bury that hatchet and celebrate. However, as NBA legend Kobe Bryant famously said, “the job’s not finished.”The post Knicks owner James Dolan loses battle with NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.

“Crying in my arms”: People are moved to tears as these dads come to Pride to play catch
LGBTQ Nation will be sharing your pictures of Pride throughout May and June. Submit your own if you want to be included! Over seven years and thousands of tossed balls, “Play Catch With a Dad” has become a ubiquitous part of Pride celebrations everywhere. John Piermatteo started the sessions in 2019 in his hometown of York, Pennsylvania, at their Unity Fest, inspired in part by “Free Mom Hugs.” Now Piermatteo is joined by scores of dads — most of them straight like him — at as many Pride events across the country. The latest are Pride Nights at MLB games. Related Ingrid Christina moved to Canada because of Trump. But they still found Pride in their hometown. After a Pride Night at Wrigley Field in Chicago last year, the group was invited to play catch at ten Major League games this June, from New York to San Francisco. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Last week, “Dad” Rabbi Randy Flesher joined “catchling” Clara Dawson on the field at Busch Stadium in St. Louis for a session at the Cardinals Pride Night. After that warm-up, Clara even got to throw out the first pitch. She might have been good luck; the Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds, 10-3. Clara’s star turn — her name filled the Jumbotron looming over right field as she walked to the mound — followed the same simple game of catch that had Dads and catchlings alike sharing tears on turf at Pride celebrations coast-to-coast. “You did not adequately prepare me for how many people were going to be crying in my arms,” a new Dad volunteer told Piermatteo at the end of one catch-filled day. Dan Selzer is another Dad recruited by Piermatteo to play catch, who now coordinates other volunteers in Illinois. He shares one of his favorite catch encounters. “Last year at Pride, I played catch with a participant who (by my guesstimate) was in his late 20s or early 30s,” Selzer recalls. “Like with all catchlings, we tossed the ball back and forth a few times, and then I offered a Dad hug, and told him I loved him and was proud of him. He became a little weepy, then the hug ended, and he went on his way.” “Ten to fifteen minutes after this interaction, I was at the front of our tent trying to interest more participants to play. I happened to look back at the Dads to see if we had room at that moment for another catchling, and I noticed my earlier one standing behind the tent and a little off to the side. He caught my eye and motioned me over. When I stepped out, he grabbed me in a huge bear hug and lifted me off the ground.” “Mind you, I’m 5’5”, and this individual was well over 6’ tall.” “He told me that no one had ever, in his entire life, told him that they were proud of him. We cried on each other’s shoulders for a minute or two, and then he released me. I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t tearing up just telling you about this experience.” Piermatteo says that kind of reaction is common, and the interactions between catchling and Dad can have a profound, lasting effect on kids who may have missed out on an affirming father. Last year’s MLB game session is an example. “The Chicago Pride Festival in 2025 took place a week after Pride Night at Wrigley Field,” Piermatteo recalls. “Early on that Saturday, a young man was passing by our booth and shouted to his friends, ‘That’s my Dad! That’s the Dad I was telling you about!’ He then ran over and gave me a big hug.” “What we have learned is that for us Dads, these encounters might last a few minutes, and then we are on to the next kiddo. But for the members of the community that engage us, those few minutes mean so much more.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Fantasy Football: These 2 sophomores 'haven't even come close to their ceilings' — plus more TE breakout candidates for 2026
With fantasy football drafts ramping up and NFL training camps just over a month away, the time has come to narrow down which players could be this year’s breakout stars. It seems easy in hindsight, but identifying young talent on the verge of making a major leap is often what propels fantasy managers to championships. Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonI’ve already highlighted my favorite breakout candidates at every key fantasy position. So today, we’re finishing the series off by looking at tight ends. 2026 Breakout Candidates: QB | RB | WR | TEColtson Loveland, Bears2026 Fantasy ProjectionReceptionsReceiving YardsReceiving TDsColston Loveland781,0156Loveland and Tyler Warren had very strong rookie seasons last year, so if your initial inclination is to dismiss them for being overqualified as breakout candidates in 2026, I understand it completely. However, we haven’t even come close to their ceilings yet. Loveland was the TE18 in fantasy points per game during his debut campaign, with 58 receptions, 713 yards and six touchdowns. Over the final nine weeks of the fantasy season, he really began to assert himself by emerging as the fifth-highest scoring tight end during that span. The 22-year-old really flashed his potential down the stretch, becoming a focal point of the Bears’ passing attack while posting stat lines of 6-94-1, 10-91-1, 8-137-0 and 4-56-0 over his last four outings, including Chicago’s two playoff appearances. He also saw 48 targets combined in those contests, with at least 10 targets in every game. There’s a reason why Loveland is being taken as the third tight end off the board in fantasy drafts. He has the best chance of anyone at the position to challenge Brock Bowers and Trey McBride for the fantasy scoring crown. Boone’s redraft rank: TE3 (Ascending high-end TE1 with an elite ceiling) Tyler Warren, Colts2026 Fantasy ProjectionReceptionsReceiving YardsReceiving TDsTyler Warren849295While I prefer to have Loveland on my 2026 fantasy teams, Warren is also positioned for a massive sophomore season, but can be drafted two rounds later. As a rookie, Warren was the TE6 in fppg through Week 10, before he dealt with some injuries down the stretch and lost his starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles. With Michael Pittman Jr. now wearing a Steelers’ jersey and Alec Pierce recovering from ankle surgery that could sidelined him into training camp, there’s a clear opportunity for Warren to dominate targets for the Colts this year. After all, Warren led the team in targets as a rookie with 112, followed by Pittman with 111, Josh Downs with 88 and Pierce with 84. Pierce and Downs will also benefit from Pittman’s departure, but Warren has the talent to be an elite fantasy tight end if he can carve out more volume. It also stands to reason that coming off a serious knee injury, a less mobile version of Jones will look to get the ball out quick, which plays into Warren’s high-end range of outcomes. Warren finished second among all tight ends in yards after the catch, a coveted skill when trying to identify breakouts at the position. If you’re looking for this year’s Tucker Kraft — a young tight end with excellent YAC ability who could be one of the top-two targets in his offense — Warren is that guy. Boone’s redraft rank: TE4 (Ascending TE1 with an elite ceiling) 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One: The group stage is here, make your picks now!Isaiah Likely, Giants2026 Fantasy ProjectionReceptionsReceiving YardsReceiving TDsIsaiah Likely616945Likely displayed intriguing fantasy upside on multiple occasions while serving as a backup to Mark Andrews on the Ravens, and now gets a chance to spread his wings and start for the Giants. The 26-year-old followed his head coach John Harbaugh to New York, where he’ll be a featured part of the passing attack — with major spike-week potential early in the season while star wideout Malik Nabers recovers from an ACL tear. Even once Nabers returns, Likely will push to be the No. 2 pass-catcher in the offense. Jaxson Dart’s affinity to making plays off-script fits well with his new tight end, who’s been excelling in that area even going back to college. Likely will also give Dart a weapon in the red zone and another downfield threat, while fighting for extra yards after every catch. Unlike some of the other more highly-touted breakout options, there’s almost no risk associated with selecting Likely, given his ADP in Round 11 as the TE14.Boone’s redraft rank: TE12 (Low-end TE1 who could get off to a hot start) Chig Okonkwo, Commanders2026 Fantasy ProjectionReceptionsReceiving YardsReceiving TDsChig Okonkwo576123Okonkwo is an underrated talent at tight end, who was signed by the Commanders to take over as their starter. While it’s a different offense coming in under new coordinator David Blough, veteran Zach Ertz had success there in recent years, including TE14 fantasy stats on a per game basis over the first 13 weeks of the 2025 campaign before suffering a season-ending injury. The Commanders are constantly mentioned as a team that could sign a free agent receiver like Stefon Diggs or Brandon Aiyuk (when he’s eventually released by the 49ers), but as of mid-June that hasn’t happened. So aside from Terry McLaurin, there aren’t any proven pass-catchers for Jayden Daniels to lean on. That means Okonkwo will be battling for targets with third-round rookie wideout Antonio Williams and former first-round reclamation project Treylon Burks. Despite coming over from an underwhelming Titans’ offense, Okonkwo managed to haul in more than 50 passes each of the past three years. He’s even shown us glimpses of being a startable fantasy option, averaging top-12 TE production down the stretch in 2024, including top-seven weekly finishes in half of his games from Week 12 on that year. If there’s a tight end who’s going to come out of nowhere to be a fantasy TE1 this year, Okonkwo continues to have my vote.Boone’s redraft rank: TE15 (Promising TE2 with low-end TE1 ceiling)

Why the number 88 million will define Colts' 2026 NFL season
What figure will define the Indianapolis Colts' 2026 season? NFL.com analyst Matt Okada says 88 million -- as in 88 million dollars. That, of course, is the total contract value that the Colts are paying Daniel Jones over the next two seasons. As Okada notes, the Colts' level of success in 2026 will be determined by Jones' play."His much-discussed two-year contract was inked just 94 days after he tore his Achilles in December," Okada wrote. "The two big questions? Will Jones be healthy to start the season, and if he is, will he play like he did early last season, when the Colts won seven of their first eight games? If so, the deal could go from dicey to discount very quickly."In regard to Okada's first question, Jones says that he will "absolutely" be ready for Week 1. He was already participating in 7-on-7 action during minicamp, although there are still some hurdles in the recovery process to navigate. Okada's second question is much more unknown. Through 10 games, the Colts were 8-2 and boasted one of the highest-scoring offenses in football, with Jones one of the most productive passers in the game. That said, even before Jones' Achilles injury in Jacksonville, the offense had begun to slow down a bit after its red-hot start. This upcoming season hinges on Jones' ability to return to that previous form. The Colts are banking on it.This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: The defining number for the Indianapolis Colts 2026 NFL season

US and Iran are close to a deal to end their war, officials say
Residents swim and play in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz while cargo ships and commercial vessels lie anchored in the distance off Bandar Abbas, Iran, Wednesday, June 10, 2026.(Razieh Poudat/ISNA via AP)2026-06-12T15:35:05Z ISLAMABAD (AP) — The United States and Iran are close to signing an agreement aimed at ending their war, three regional officials told The Associated Press on Friday. A senior U.S. official said the tentative deal includes terms for removing and destroying nuclear material from Iran.Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted Friday on X that an agreement “has never been closer.” He gave no details, saying a final deal was still pending. The apparent breakthrough in negotiations comes after Iran exchanged fire with the U.S. and Israel over three days this week, threatening to return the Middle East to full-scale war.U.S. President Donald Trump has said multiple times in recent weeks that the countries were on the cusp of a deal. The war launched by the U.S. and Israel on Feb. 28 has rattled the Middle East and virtually shut down oil and natural gas shipments from the Persian Gulf. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since April 7. The regional officials said the emerging deal is expected to pave the way for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the phased lifting of sanctions on Iran, and the release of frozen Iranian assets. These officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the negotiations, declined to discuss further details. A senior U.S. official said key terms in the emerging agreement include the removal and destruction of Iran’s nuclear material and the dismantling of Tehran’s nuclear program. The terms also include Iran agreeing not to fund terrorist groups, the official said. Read More The U.S. official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to provide details about the sensitive talks.Underscoring the fragility of the talks, Trump on Friday lashed out at Iranian officials on social media and said: “They better get their act together, and FAST!”Iran’s nuclear program has been a key point of division. The U.S. and Israel fear it could lead to an atomic weapon — a main reason their leaders cited for going to war. Tehran has insisted its nuclear efforts are for peaceful purposes. Also critical is Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for oil and natural gas. Disruption of transit through the strait has crimped global energy supplies, driven up fuel prices and made food and other basics more expensive well beyond the region. The U.S. has responded since mid-April with a naval blockade of Iranian ports to choke off Iran’s own oil exports. The regional officials said they expect a signing ceremony for the agreement in the coming days after officials in Washington and Tehran approve it. “This deal has the potential to remake the region and lead to lasting peace,” U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Friday in a social media post, without releasing details.Trump on Thursday claimed significant progress in talks to extend the ceasefire, just hours after he threatened to escalate attacks and seize Iran’s oil industry. Esmail Baghaei, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said on state television that mediators were active and the text of a deal was “mostly finalized.” There was no immediate comment Friday from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, which has been leading efforts to mediate a deal between the U.S. and Iran. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi had said Thursday that Pakistan remained involved in negotiations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel was not a party to the deal being negotiated. He said in a statement Friday that he and Trump were in “full agreement” that Iran must not have nuclear weapons. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement Friday he expects Trump to advocate for Israel’s interests. Katz warned that Israel could still act independently toward Iran and said the country would not pull out of the zones it is occupying in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza, nor would it withdraw from the northern refugee camps of the Israeli-occupied West Bank.Iran has insisted that any deal to end the war must also end fighting in Lebanon between its ally militia Hezbollah and Israel. Netanyahu appears intent on pursuing his goal of destroying the militant group, complicating negotiations between Iran and the U.S. The deal was largely being brokered by Pakistan, led by its army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, the regional officials said, with backing from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar.___Binkley reported from Washington and Bynum reported from Savannah, Georgia. Judge extends block on Trump’s $1.8 billion ‘Anti-Weaponization Fund’
President Donald Trump is pictured during an event where he signs a proclamation about the fishing industry, in the Oval Office of the White House, Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)2026-06-12T15:04:16Z ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A federal judge agreed on Friday to extend a court-ordered block on the Trump administration’s creation and operation of a $1.8 billion settlement fund for compensating people who claim to be victims of a weaponized government.Earlier this month, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress that the government is scrapping its plans for the fund in the face of a fierce bipartisan backlash. Government attorneys have argued that lawsuits challenging the fund are now moot, but plaintiffs’ attorneys aren’t satisfied by Blanche’s assurances that the fund won’t move forward.Neither was U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema, who ruled that the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” will remain blocked until further notice from the court.“The (government’s) mootness argument, in my view, doesn’t go anywhere,” the judge said. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, has not publicly and unequivocally endorsed its cancellation. He has continued to express support for the fund in remarks to reporters.Brinkema gave the parties a week to negotiate an agreement for Blanche to submit a sworn declaration that the administration won’t revive the fund. Brinkema previously agreed to temporarily block the administration from proceeding with the fund for at least two weeks. Her May 29 order was due to expire on Friday.Trump’s Republican administration created the fund to resolve his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service over the leak of his tax returns. Read More Plaintiffs who sued to block fund payouts argue that the government can’t legally divert taxpayer money into what they argue is a slush fund for compensating Trump’s allies. In a separate case on Wednesday, a different judge in Washington, D.C., rejected a government watchdog’s parallel request for a court order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from forging ahead with the fund. U.S. District Judge Richard Leon said he accepts Blanche’s representation that the fund is now moot. Leon had asked Justice Department attorney Andrew Block why Blanche doesn’t formally rescind his May 18 order establishing the fund. Block said he didn’t know. He still didn’t have an answer to that question when Brinkema posed it two days later. “It’s a huge gap in the record that we don’t have an answer to that question,” the judge said.In the Virginia case, attorneys from the legal advocacy group Democracy Forward asked for an order to temporarily suspend the fund’s implementation and stop the Trump administration from disbursing any payouts from it.The plaintiffs include a fired prosecutor and a college professor acquitted of assaulting federal agents at a protest.Even before the administration said it was dropping the fund, the Justice Department did not form the five-member commission that would decide on payout criteria, so no money was paid out nor claims accepted. Many of the Republican president’s allies are opposed to compensating rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. In May, however, Blanche wouldn’t rule out the possibility that Capitol rioters who engaged could be eligible to apply for payments from the fund. Trump issued mass pardons to Capitol rioters on his first day back in the White House last year. More than 1,500 people were charged in the Jan. 6 attack before Trump erased every case with his sweeping act of clemency.Brinkema was nominated to the bench by President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.

Ravenwood's Simon Hetrick named Gatorade Tennessee Boys Soccer Player of the Year
Ravenwood's Simon Hetrick has capped a state-title winning senior campaign being named the 2025-26 Gatorade Tennessee Boys Soccer Player of the Year.Hetrick scored 11 goals and provided eight assists for the Raptors this season, being named District 10-AAA Midfielder of the Year before helping lead Ravenwood to the program's first state title, knocking off six-time champion Bearden in penalty kicks in the championship game last month."Simon’s dominance is not always demonstrated in goals and assists, but his control over the game is easily visible," Kyle Roelke, recently elevated Franklin soccer coach, said in a news release. "The impact he has on his team’s ability to control large amounts of possession comes down to how good a passer he is and how well he reads the game as a central midfielder. He was the best player we played in our district and the state tournament run."More: Meet the winners of the 2026 Middle Tennessee High School Sports Awards presented by Ponce LawThe Gatorade Player of the Year awards aren't just awarded for athletic excellence, but also work in the classroom and community. How Simon Doull predicted Kane Williamson's shock retirement days before the announcement
What initially appeared to be a passing remark during a live broadcast has now turned out to be a remarkably accurate prediction.Just five days before Kane Williamson stunned the cricketing world by announcing his retirement from international cricket, former New Zealand pacer and commentator Simon Doull had dropped a mysterious hint about a major development involving the BlackCaps.— SkyCricket (@SkyCricket) Speaking during Sky Sports' coverage following England's victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Lord's on June 7, Doull left viewers intrigued with a brief but cryptic message."A big announcement is coming in the next few days," Doull said before ending the discussion, offering no further clues about what was on the horizon. The comment immediately sparked speculation among fans, but few could have anticipated the scale of the news that would follow.Five days later, on June 12, New Zealand Cricket confirmed that Kane Williamson had retired from international cricket with immediate effect, bringing an end to one of the greatest careers in the country's sporting history. The 35-year-old said "now is the right time" to step away after a remarkable 16-year journey at the highest level. His decision also means he will play no further part in New Zealand's ongoing Test series against England.Williamson leaves the game as New Zealand's leading run-scorer across all international formats, having amassed 19,346 runs in 378 matches. His tally includes 48 international centuries and six double-centuries, records that underline his status as one of the finest batters of his generation.Beyond his batting achievements, Williamson's calm leadership defined a golden era for New Zealand cricket. Between 2016 and 2024, he captained the BlackCaps across formats, guiding them to two ICC Cricket World Cup finals, three semi-finals and, most memorably, the inaugural ICC World Test Championship title in 2021.His individual honours were equally impressive. Williamson was named ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2015, ICC Test Player of the Year in 2019, and won the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal a record four times. He also earned global admiration for his sportsmanship, receiving the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award in 2018.With Williamson now stepping away from international cricket, Doull's brief remark at Lord's has gained renewed attention. What seemed like a cryptic teaser has proven to be an early warning of one of the biggest moments in New Zealand cricket history.

Carmelo Anthony compares OG Anunoby Finals MVP push to Andre Iguodala award
Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty ImagesOG Anunoby has been one of the New York Knicks’ most dependable players all season, but the NBA Finals have made his value impossible to ignore. His role gained more visibility after Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs. Anunoby produced a decisive late bucket and a vital stop on De’Aaron Fox, strengthening his Finals MVP case. That discussion has intensified with Anunoby averaging 23.8 points per game against the Spurs in the postseason, according to StatMuseStill, Carmelo Anthony, the former Knicks star, 10-time All-Star and 2025 Hall of Fame inductee, believes another Knick should lead the race.Carmelo Anthony makes bold Andre Iguodala point on OG Anunoby’s Finals MVP debatePhoto by MediaNews Group/Bay Area News via Getty ImagesAnthony did not question Anunoby’s importance. However, he placed a hypothetical award to the 28-year-old forward besides one of the most debated Finals MVP decisions of the modern era.Andre Iguodala won the 2015 award with Golden State after averaging 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists against Cleveland. His defence on LeBron James and move into the starting lineup helped swing that series, even while Stephen Curry remained the Warriors’ attacking centrepiece.Anthony sees a similar debate around Anunoby. A trophy for him would reward elite two-way impact and decisive moments, but it would also overlook Jalen Brunson’s offensive leadership and contribution in clutch moments, as happened with Curry.“OG has been the most steady consistent guy in these Finals. Forget the tip-in, that stop on Fox was amazing! Now, you put all of that together… If OG wins it, it will be like Andre Iguodala’s at Golden State.”Anunoby has been pivotal for the Knicks, but it is unlikely his clutch moment in Game 4 will overshadow Brunson’s steady contribution.Read more:Magic Johnson’s take on De’Aaron Fox’s clutch mistakes costing Spurs Game 4 against the KnicksGiannis Antetokounmpo’s potential trade price to Timberwolves emerges amid rumors with Heat, CelticsLakers receive bad news as Eastern Conference team prepares $178 million offer for Austin Reaves

Happy Straight Pride Month! Wait… let me double check my notes
It’s finally that time of year, when we celebrate “Straight Pride!” And frankly, it’s about time. For centuries, heterosexual people have been oppressed, marginalized, and forced to live in the shadows of a ruthlessly queer-dominated world. It’s time we address this glaring inequality and finally celebrate the joy, the triumph, and the beautifully beige aesthetic of being straight. First, let’s brush up on our straight history. Even before the 1960s, heterosexual people were routinely targeted, harassed, and arrested just for holding hands in public. Related Ron DeSantis declares June “Faith & Family Month” to honor “Christian faith” & “Biblical” families Hold on, my editor is whispering in my ear. Correction: That was actually homosexual people. My mistake! But I’m sure if we dig deep enough into the archives, we’ll find a time when straight people were persecuted for their orientation. No? Nothing in the database? Huh. Well, no matter! Straight people should still be able to celebrate the brave act of being exactly what society expects them to be. What’s not to celebrate? Imagine the sheer courage it takes to embrace an attraction to the opposite sex without a single fear of societal retaliation. It’s not like heterosexuality has been the default setting since, well, the dawn of human civilization. They deserve a parade! Sure, heterosexuals make up the vast majority of the population, but this is the modern era – everyone gets a participation trophy. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today The big straight coming out I’ll never forget the day my sister finally came out to our parents. Lord, what an emotional roller coaster. She had confided in me weeks prior, trembling as she asked if Mom and Dad would still love her. I kept reassuring her: “It’s going to be okay. They’re progressive. They’ll accept you.” When the moment arrived, she sat on the couch, clutching a shredded tissue in her shaking hands, took a deep breath, and confessed that she was… straight. Mom immediately burst into tears. Dad gasped. But they both jumped up to embrace her, whispering, “No matter what the outside world thinks, you are our baby, and you are perfectly, statistically normal.” I was beaming with pride. The fight for representation It’s just exhausting seeing how lopsided our culture is in favor of the LGBTQ+ community. Those poor, sweet straights are practically invisible. You never see them in movies, and they are certainly never depicted as representing the “normal” way of living. When was the last time you saw a jewelry commercial featuring a man and a woman? Or a sitcom centered around a husband and wife? Almost never! It’s completely unfair that straight people don’t have a designated month to look at a billboard and think, “Wow, it’s okay to be me.” Consider the global crisis: Right now, there are nearly 70 countries where being heterosexual is literally illegal, and in several, it carries the death penalty! Editor’s Note: Apologies again, I read the chart upside down. It is actually illegal to be homosexual in those countries. In fact, heterosexuality is legally protected and culturally enforced in 100% of the world. But still! That doesn’t mean straight people feel like they have the entire weight of global law, religion, and history reinforcing their lifestyle. Right? The legislative onslaught Let’s talk about the political climate. As we speak, there are over 500 anti-heterosexual bills moving through the U.S. legislature. Over 500! These hetero-haters are doing everything in their power to deny basic rights, ban straight couples from adopting, dictate which bathrooms they can use, and ensure that bakers don’t have to bake them a frickin’ wedding cake. They’ve even passed “Don’t Say Straight” bills in schools! Well shoot. I’m looking at the script again. It turns out I got it backward one more time. It’s actually the LGBTQ+ community facing those bills. My bad. Look, at the end of the day, I just don’t think it’s fair. Yes, my research has revealed that heterosexuals are the overwhelming majority. And yes, science confirms that society is already built entirely around the heterosexual lifestyle. But if they don’t get a parade for successfully doing the bare minimum required to propagate the species, then what was this all for? I mean, who doesn’t want to live in a world where expecting parents literally risk their lives skydiving out of planes or detonating pipe bombs in public parks just to announce a baby’s gender? That is peak hetero culture, and it deserves a grand stage. And let’s face it: Isn’t the traditional rainbow a bit… loud? It’s overdone. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue… It’s total sensory overload. It’s time to tamp those colors way down and bring back the true spectrum: The Rainbow of Beige. Imagine the majesty The palette: A breathtaking sea of khaki, tan, eggshell, cream, and maybe a daring splash of navy blue if someone’s feeling spicy. The uniform: An endless horizon of cargo shorts. So many pockets, yet nothing of substance inside them. Paired exclusively with New Balance sneakers and polo shirts tucked in just a little too tight. The atmosphere: Completely and deliciously low-stakes. There will be absolutely no glitter. Glitter gets into everything; it stays in your carpet for years and, quite frankly, requires too much cleanup. Instead, the floats will be showered in eco-friendly, biodegradable sawdust. Instead of booming techno music that shakes your ribcage, the parade will feature a steady, comforting playlist of mid-tempo 70s yacht rock and the gentle hum of lawnmowers. The floats won’t be extravagant; they’ll just be highly functional pickup trucks towing sensible mid-sized sedans. Is a straight parade really too much to ask for? It’s safe. It’s muted. It will be wrapped up by 4:00 PM sharp so everyone can get home, check their 401(k), and beat the dinner rush at the local chain restaurant. Straight people have had a really rough time in life. Not only do they deserve a straight pride, but let’s face it, that is a lifestyle worth celebrating. Shaley Howard is the author of “Excuse Me, Sir! ‘You Will Not Speak on Flock Tonight’: County Commissioner Refuses to Let Residents Opposing Flock Speak at Meeting
A County Commissioner in North Carolina refused to let dozens of residents speak opposing Flock surveillance at a public meeting this week, instead forcing the group to designate one single spokesperson.“How many people are here for public comment dealing with license plate readers AKA Flock?,” Michael Garrison, the chairman of the Madison County Board of Commissioners began the public meeting by saying. Nearly everyone in the audience’s hand went up. “Probably most everybody. Per our county policy, I’m going to respectfully ask that you guys take a few minutes to converse with each other, designate one person to speak … we’ll move forward with only one person, whoever that happens to be.”“What? No. We all want to speak on this,” someone in the crowd said; others can be heard trying to object as well.“You will not speak on Flock tonight,” he responds. “One person designated. You can pick that person … if I gave everyone three minutes to say the same thing, which is opposition to Flock, we’d never get done … I’ve spoken. I’m not debating this. I am taking advantage of our policy as it is written to streamline this process, you can either do it or not.”“You’re in a room full of people who care!,” a person in the crowd says. “We’re not going to engage in this back-and-forth conversation,” he responds. “We’re going to allow one person. Pick a person or not.” 0:00 /1:50 1× The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has been using Flock’s automated license plate readers, which scan and analyze the time and location of cars as they drive by, since at least March, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office. Records compiled by HaveIBeenFlocked.com based on public records requests show that the Sheriff’s Office searches Flock hundreds of times per month. Over the last year, citizen privacy groups have successfully pressured their local governments into ending contracts with Flock. But in some cities and municipalities, residents feel like their concerns have been ignored.“The Sheriff Office claims they are only using this technology for serious crimes, yet published audit logs tell a different story,” a website called Madison for Privacy says. “Madison County has searched the nationwide database over 1,200 times over just a 60 day period. In a county over only 20,000 residents, its hard to understand what could warrant this many searches.”Members of the audience and several of the commissioners then argued back and forth. The commissioners said that the citizens constituted a “group” who all had the same position, and therefore could only select one representative to speak for seven minutes, which the board said was longer than the three minutes each person would normally be allowed to speak for. Residents argued that they were not a “group” but were there to give different perspectives on the issue and that they were concerned about the surveillance as specific individuals: “I’m not here as a group, I’m an individual,” one person says.“I’m not here to argue with you,” a commissioner responds. “So you’re going to decide to not listen to your citizens, that’s what you’re saying,” a woman in the crowd says.“We’re going to follow the policy,” the commissioner responds. “Can we request that there be a special meeting,” about Flock, a resident says.“If you want a special meeting, you go back to the 250 years that the sheriff has been the elected official in the state of North Carolina and you have that meeting with him. This board, we don’t own Flock cameras, I’ve emailed some of you this. We don’t pay for Flock cameras. We don’t operate Flock cameras. We have no interest in Flock camera or Flock camera discussion. That’s your elected sheriff. So if you want to have a meeting with the person that’s involved with that, then you’ll have a meeting with [him], not with us that’s a legislative body. We don’t control the sheriff’s budget. We give him X number of dollars, he does with it what he wishes. I’m not having this discussion. Either you select a person or not.”One of the residents suggests that the board of commissioners could pass an ordinance about Flock cameras; he is cut off by Garrison, who says again that the residents can pick a person to speak or not. Eventually, the residents do select one representative, who was allowed to speak for seven minutes.Garrison’s argument is that the Board of Commissioners gives the Sheriff’s Office a budget, and that the Sheriff can spend the money on whatever it wants to. He suggested that the board therefore does not have oversight of what surveillance technology police are buying or what they are using it for. This fact highlights a problem many communities around the country are facing: Cities and counties are sometimes buying Flock surveillance technology without any transparency, with no public process, and with very little oversight. Citizens around the country have also felt like their elected officials are not listening to their concerns about surveillance. It is common practice at city council and county council meetings to allow all residents who have shown up to speak provide public comment, which is one of the reasons that these types of meetings are often many hours long. At the Madison County meeting, these residents were not allowed to speak, which is much different than the practices we’ve seen at other, similar meetings. Later in the meeting, another resident explains that their public records requests for details about the Sheriff’s Office contracts and use of Flock have not been sufficiently responded to. She was allowed to speak because she was providing comment about her requests for public records, and not Flock specifically. “I’m here to talk about the lack of government transparency and accountability that I’ve seen come up with the Flock issue, starting with tonight. I think that it’s disgraceful the way you are refusing to let citizens speak to their elected officials,” she said. “We’ve repeatedly asked you to hold a public meeting for us to discuss this, so I’m very disappointed to see a lack of transparency.”The Madison County Board of Commissioners and Madison County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for comment.

Tortorella's confidence unshaken as Golden Knights face elimination game in Stanley Cup Final
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — John Tortorella has never worried about how his Vegas Golden Knights handle tough situations in pushing to the Stanley Cup Final. That won't change now, with the Golden Knights facing their first elimination game and dealing with an injury to center William Karlsson. The Golden Knights lost 4-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes in Thursday's Game 5, moving the Hurricanes within a victory of claiming the Stanley Cup. The series shifts to Las Vegas for Sunday's Game 6, with the Golden Knights aiming to force a Game 7 back here Wednesday.“They've been through it all," Tortorella said in a Zoom news conference Friday morning. "They know what's at stake here. We need to win one game. They'll be ready to play.”Vegas — featuring numerous holdovers from the team that raised the Cup in 2023 — had only gained momentum since the abrupt firing of coach Bruce Cassidy in late March to hire Tortorella. The Golden Knights won seven of eight to close the regular season. They faced 2-2 playoff series in Round 1 against Utah and Round 2 against Anaheim, and won Games 5 and 6 to close out each. They swept the Presidents' Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche. And they held a 2-1 lead on Carolina after a double-overtime victory in Game 3.But the Hurricanes have gradually begun to turn the series.Since trailing 4-0 entering the third period of Game 3, the Hurricanes have doubled up the Golden Knights (13-6) while finding a spark with Brandon Bussi taking over in net. In Game 5, the Hurricanes got two more power-play goals from a unit that had sputtered through the Eastern Conference playoffs while also reversing Vegas' second-period dominance.Vegas had compounding mistakes like getting a kill only for Brayden McNabb to immediately go to the box for cross-checking Jackson Blake in the second period. Or there was Mark Stone's high stick on Jalen Chatfield in the third, leaving Chatfield bleeding from a cut above his right eye for a double-minor penalty.Carolina's Andrei Svechnikov scored after both, coming amid a postseason of questions as to when he and fellow top-liner Sebastian Aho would get rolling. “Anytime you give the other team’s best players the opportunity to be on the ice on the power play and feel good about themselves … you stack that up and it definitely can be challenging and tire guys out,” center Nic Dowd said afterward.Svechnikov's scores pushed the Hurricanes to 6 of 16 (37.5%) on the power play this series, coming after they were at 12.5% (7 of 56) in a 12-1 push through the Eastern Conference playoffs.“One of the areas that we've lost a little bit is special teams, a couple of power-play goals last night,” Tortorella said Friday. “Like I said after the game, I thought at times we were killing, we had some good times as far as moving, being aggressive with our penalty kill, and are doing the job. Other times, not so good.”Then there's Karlsson, who missed nearly six months with a lower-body injury before returning for his playoff debut to start the Anaheim series. He had three goals and six assists through 14 playoff games to elevate the Golden Knights, including goals in Games 1 and 4 against Carolina. But Karlsson appeared to injure his left arm or shoulder after getting knocked into the boards by Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker midway through the second. He got medical attention on the bench briefly, skated off and never returned.Tortorella said Thursday that Karlsson was “not going to be with us, probably” and Vegas needed a collective effort to replace him. He offered no additional details Friday morning.Still, he has defiantly promised the series would “be back here” for a Game 7.“We know what we have to do to beat this team," McNabb said Thursday night. "It's a matter of going home and winning one game. That's all it is, and hopefully we're back here for Game 7.”___AP NHL: https://apnews.com/hub/stanley-cup and https://apnews.com/hub/nhl
