SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBlue Jays predicted to trade for $6.2M All-Star to stack rotation with Dylan Cease, Max ScherzerBlue Jays predicted to trade for $6.2M All-Star to stack rotation with Dylan Cease, Max Scherzer originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled at times this season to find consistency, as injuries have heavily impacted their starting rotation. However, the team is beginning to get back on track.Toronto is expected to be aggressive in adding another starting pitcher at the trade deadline, and one name they have already shown interest in is Tarik Skubal.“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote. If the Blue Jays are unable to land Skubal, they are expected to pivot elsewhere. SI’s Curt Bishop believes Minnesota Twins starter Joe Ryan would be an excellent alternative to bolster the rotation.“The Blue Jays recently got some reinforcements with the returns of Max Scherzer and Dylan Cease. Shane Bieber is also moving closer to a return, but they still have been hit hard by injuries this year. Cody Ponce is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in April, so one more starter wouldn't hurt. The Blue Jays would also give Ryan a chance to compete for a postseason contender after the Twins fell apart a few years ago,” Bishop wrote.Toronto is eager to return to the World Series after falling just one win short of a championship. The Blue Jays’ rotation will be a key factor in determining how far they can go in October.Ryan is currently on a team-friendly $6.2 million contract, making him an appealing target. After coming so close to a title, Toronto is expected to be aggressive at the deadline, and adding a pitcher like Ryan could make a significant difference in their postseason push.More MLB news:Braves predicted to part ways with $20M underachieving Gold Glove winner at trade deadlineBraves predicted to go all-in for $32M 2-time Cy Young winner after Spencer Strider injuryPhillies predicted to trade for $100M Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger after Adolis Garcia injuryDodgers' Mookie Betts ruined Yoshinobu Yamamoto's perfect game bid and shot at MLB history0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe Need, Fit For Both FC Barcelona’s Nikola Kusturica and Gonzaga’s Parties Are ApparentATHENS, GREECE - MAY 24: Nikola Kusturica, #46 of U18 FC Barcelona in action during 2026 ANGE Finals Championship game Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona on May 24, 2026 in Athens, Greece. (Photo by David Grau/Euroleague Basketball via Getty Images) The Gonzaga Bulldogs 2026-27 roster is four spots short of filling their 15 possible scholarship/walk-on spots. But don’t fret, the coaching staff, specifically Director of Basketball Operations Jorge Sanz, is on the hunt to fill that gap over in Spain. Per multiple reports, FC Barcelona’s 6-9 wing Nikola Kusturica’s interested parties are Gonzaga, Kentucky, UCLA, Arizona, Duke, Louisville, and North Carolina. The Zags under coach Mark Few and the Wildcats under coach Mark Pope are the favorites to secure the commitment. The 17-year-old Serbian is a top 2028 NBA Draft prospect who already has EuroLeague and Spain’s Liga ACB experience at such a young age. In fact, Kusturica is the youngest player in FC Barcelona’s history to score a basket during a Liga ACB contest at 16 years old. He’s considered to be one of the top physical specimens with a bright future coming out of Europe. In FC Barcelona’s U-18 NextGen EuroLeague championship win over Real Madrid, the long frame of Kusturica stood out after contributing 20 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. He’s a pure shot and playmaker with a ridiculiously high ceiling once he puts on weight with whatever college program he chooses, only at 180 pounds at the moment. It sounds as if this would be a two-year situation for him with the NCAA. The need/fit with Gonzaga makes the most sense given this multiple seasons in college probability. He would potentially come off the bench in his first year with the Inland Northwest program, and blossom into a starting role for the 2027-28 campaign for the Zags.Kusturica is currently preparing to represent his home country of Serbia at the FIBA U-17 World Cup, which which is taking place from June 27 to July 5 in Istanbul, Turkey.Arden Cravalho is a Gonzaga University graduate from the Bay Area… Follow him on X @a_cravalho0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrost Bank Center security guard’s admission will crush San Antonio Spurs’ 3-1 comeback hopesPhoto by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesA Frost Bank Center security guard’s overheard admission has added another brutal layer to the San Antonio Spurs’ already difficult Game 5 task against the New York Knicks.San Antonio trail the NBA Finals 3-1, need three straight wins to complete a historic comeback, and now may not even get the full feel of home-court advantage. For a team still processing how Game 4 slipped away, that is a rough setting for an elimination game.Photo by Caleb Bowlin/Getty ImagesSecurity guard’s warning points to New York Knicks takeover against San Antonio SpursIn a post shared by Stefan Bondy on X, the reporter said he overheard a security guard at Frost Bank Center before Game 5.“They told us in our meeting it’s basically going to be a New York Knicks home game,” the guard said. That is the last thing the Spurs would want to hear before trying to keep their season alive. Game 5 is in San Antonio, but the building may carry the sound and tension of a Knicks clinching party. The concern has been building for days. Ticket data and local reports pointed to a heavy New York presence, with Spurs-related measures around ticket sales not fully quieting the idea that Knicks fans could flood the arena.San Antonio Spurs’ 3-1 comeback hopes need more than Victor WembanyamaThe crowd issue matters because the Spurs are already fighting history as much as New York.Only one team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers. San Antonio must now win three straight against a Knicks team one victory from its first championship since 1973.Game 4 made that climb feel even steeper. The Spurs led by 29 before losing 107-106 at Madison Square Garden, a collapse that changed the series and gave New York the chance to close it in Texas.Victor Wembanyama gives San Antonio a reason to believe, but comeback attempts usually need control, confidence and a building that feeds the home team when the game tightens. If Knicks chants cut through Frost Bank Center, that advantage gets weakened at the exact moment the Spurs need it most. The series is not over until New York wins a fourth game. Still, a supposed home elimination game sounding like enemy territory would make San Antonio’s path from 3-1 down feel even thinner.Read more:NBA confirm referee team for Knicks-Spurs Finals Game 5, Scott Foster listed as crew chiefShaquille O’Neal shares his take on who’d win between him and Victor Wembanyama in a one-on-one‘Victor Wembanyama should be suspended at some point,’ says Draymond Green amid 2026 NBA Finals0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJalen Rose tries to humble New York Knicks fans ahead of potentially ending 53-year NBA title droughtPhoto by Stephanie Augello/Variety via Getty ImagesJalen Rose sent a sharp reminder to New York Knicks fans as the franchise moved within one win of ending a 53-year NBA title drought. The city has waited since 1973 for another championship, so the excitement around Game 5 against the San Antonio Spurs is easy to understand.Rose’s message was aimed at keeping that celebration in proportion before the Knicks have even finished the job.Photo by CHARLY TRIBALLEAU / AFP via Getty ImagesJalen Rose tells New York Knicks fans one title does not equal tenIn a post shared by Jalen Rose on X, the former NBA guard addressed Knicks fans and the new wave of supporters jumping onto the run.“Dear Knicks fans (and those on the bandwagon), you get ONE Championship if you win not TEN),” Rose stated. He added, “Note: A Champion happens every season in the NBA. Thank you, the rest of us.”The tone was playful, but the message was clear. Rose was not dismissing what a Knicks championship would mean; he was warning fans not to treat one possible title like it erases every argument in basketball history. That is part of what has made the Knicks’ Finals run so loud. A long drought creates pent-up joy, and New York’s fanbase was never going to celebrate quietly if the franchise got this close.New York Knicks title drought has fans ready to explode before Game 5The Knicks lead the Spurs 3-1 in the NBA Finals and can close the series in Game 5 at San Antonio.Their last championship came in 1973, when New York beat the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, the franchise reached the Finals in 1994 and 1999 but fell short both times, leaving multiple generations of fans without a title. That history explains why Rose mentioned both Knicks diehards and bandwagon fans. A team one win from ending a 53-year drought naturally pulls in casual supporters, celebrities and people who want to be part of a rare New York sports moment.Game 4 only intensified the mood. The Knicks beat the Spurs 107-106 after a dramatic comeback, pushing themselves to the brink of their first championship in more than half a century.Rose’s warning will not quiet New York if the Knicks finish the series. It does, however, capture how the rest of the NBA may feel if one championship turns into a citywide victory lap that sounds like a dynasty celebration.Read more:New York prepares for ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ Saturday night as NBA finals and World Cup collideNBA confirm referee team for Knicks-Spurs Finals Game 5, Scott Foster listed as crew chief‘Victor Wembanyama should be suspended at some point,’ says Draymond Green amid 2026 NBA Finals0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2027 NJ Wide Receiver Isaiah Alvarez Commits to Rutgers FootballDec 26, 2024; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Rutgers Scarlet Knights wide receivers coach Dave Brock against the Kansas State Wildcats during the Rate Bowl at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images | Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images Rutgers football has landed three-star Don Bosco Prep wide receiver Isaiah Alvarez, adding another commit from the June 5 official visit weekend to its 2027 class. Alvarez, who was rated a three-star by all three ranking services, is listed as the No.112 WR and the No.24 New Jersey prospect by Rivals and the No.82 WR, No.15 New Jersey prospect by 247Sports. During his junior season at Don Bosco, Alvarez totalled 702 receiving yards and six touchdowns, averaging around 18 yards per catch. He also showed off his talents in the return game, totalling over 300 yards as a returner with three additional touchdowns on special teams. That production is a major jump from his sophomore year, when he caught 38 passes for 421 and three touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect has received a lot of power four interest, and chose Rutgers despite holding offers from. Colorado, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Penn State. He was scheduled to take a visit to both Nebraska and Penn State, but ultimately decided to cancel those before committing to Rutgers. According to both Rivals and 247Sports, Alvarez was one of the top receivers on Rutgers recruiting board. Rutgers wide receivers coach gets a lot of the credit for locking down Alvarez’s commitment.“It’s the development. Coach Brock has developed a lot of receivers; Julio Jones, KJ Duff, guys like that. Looking at the stats, they had three receivers in the top 20 in receiving yards last year,” said Alvarez in a statement to 247Sports. Alvarez’s most recent visit to campus wasn’t the only one he took this year. Alvarez visited the campus this past April and had a really good time. Following the visit, he told The Knight Report that Rutgers was one of his top schools.Alvarez now joins a three-man wide receiver class that has three-star wide receivers Jamar Taylor and Arnold Mugerwa in it.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCharlotte Hornets 2025-26 player grades: Kon KnueppelDespite falling out of the top three in last year's 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, the Charlotte Hornets were still able to scoop up a tremendous talent with the No. 4 overall selection, former Duke guard Kon Knueppel. Although some expected Knueppel to contribute right away, no one anticipated his breakout season, narrowly falling short of NBA Rookie of the Year Award honors to his former college roommate, Cooper Flagg.Throughout the year, Knueppel played 81 games, making 80 starts and averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 0.7 steals. He neared 50/40/90 efficiency, shooting 47.5% from the field, 42.5% from 3-point range and 86.3% from the free-throw line. The Milwaukee native led the league in 3-pointers, breaking the rookie record for made 3-pointers as well. Knueppel also became the third rookie in NBA history to average 15 or more points and five or more rebounds while shooting above 40% from beyond the arc. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMock trade idea sends former Lakers All-Star to HoustonThe Houston Rockets are expected to make frontcourt upgrades this offseason to improve their roster around the core of Kevin Durant. Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson. For this reason, many have speculated that Jabari Smith Jr. could be on the move or perhaps Tari Eason if the two sides are unable to reach a contract extension. In a recent article by Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report, Hughes proposed that Houston would move on from both Eason and Smith Jr. in favor of 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis. In the proposed deal, Houston would receive Davis in return for Jabari Smith Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, Tari Eason and a 2027 second-round pick.Although this deal would give up some of Houston's youth, the acquisition of Davis would make the Rockets quite threatening in the Western Conference when at full health. Either way, between a trade for Davis, Jaylen Brown or another star, the Rockets seem likely to make a big move this summer. This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: Mock trade idea sends former Lakers All-Star to the Rockets0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTrack and Field: CJ state championship completes successful multi-season campaignChaminade Julienne’s group of underclassmen traveling to Columbus had one mission in mind.A strong indoor season already proved there were talented individuals able to win a team title. Crunching the numbers before making the trip, CJ head coach Terrence Glenn believed his athletes were able to earn the points to contend.“We just come to find out, we actually were one of the teams that could put over 40 points in that meet,” Glenn said. “So I really just told the girls, ‘We can go out here, perform like we’ve been doing all season, and there’s a possibility we can come out of it state champions.’“And they all bought into that.”Chaminade Julienne came home from the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships held Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, claiming the school’s first team championship.CJ scored 44 points to take the title in Division II.“We had that indoor titles and they got the fulfillment, the joy of we can do this,” said Glenn. “I know they wanted to feel that same joy of actually bringing home the outdoor state title. And I’m not going to say it was easy as it was very challenging, but we had girls that just had awesome regional finals.”All of CJ’s point scorers were juniors.Claire Downer had four podium finishes to lead the scoring for the Eagles. Downer got second place in both the high jump (5 feet, 5 inches) and long jump (18’ 7.25”) events. She earned the same spot running in the 300-meter hurdles (43.23 seconds), and also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.65 seconds).CJ also had Cloie Williams score twice and Sydney Haywood once. Williams was second in the 100-meter dash (12.04 seconds) and fourth in the 200 (24.53 seconds.) Haywood placed eighth in the 100 (12.27 seconds) as well. Both sophomore Jacelyn Colvin and freshman Mychael Hanson qualified for the meet as well as part of the 400 relay team.“Standing on the podium was a moment I thought about for a long time but was never fully prepared for how it would feel,” said Downer through CJ’s communications department. “It was incredibly fulfilling to know we finally achieved something that will forever represent the kind of athletes and team we are.”The year finishes a successful multi-season effort for CJ track athletes. Williams won the indoor state championships in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. Haywood, Williams and Downer teamed with Olivea Stanley to win the indoor 4 x 200 relay championship. Stanley had to sit out the outdoor season due to state transfer rules. All of their success indoors made the team “laser focused” on its chance to duplicate feats at the outdoor championships, according to Glenn. In case there was a little bit more of a push needed, CJ was able to gain additional motivation following its girls basketball team’s run to the D-III state championship while they were getting through the indoor season.“The girls really saw all that came with their run and the recognition. They really thought that could be us this year,” Glenn said. “We just really got to sit together and stick to the plan of what we have to do to get that state title.”The track team took after the basketball team with how close it made its run to the title. CJ outpaced Big Walnut by four points in the final standings.Glenn said when he saw Big Walnut’s relay team drop a baton in its finals race, he felt destiny was taking place in front of his eyes.“The rest just played out for itself and we came out on top,” he said. “And for that to be the first one in school history is amazing. 175 years of Chaminade Julienne history and all those state titles, and we were able to bring our first one.”The best part of the group is they get to come back and get another next year. The team had virtually no seniors competing this season and none that made it to state. Those five that brought home the trophy can become more vocal leaders as seniors to hopefully bring up more talented athletes to state next season with them.Winning a title changes the overall perception of a program, and CJ can now reap the benefits that will come from one.“We had three girls score at state. That just is crazy,” Glenn said. “I don’t know how it got done, but it got done. We are the state champions.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTigers ace Tarik Skubal shows some rust in first start since elbow procedureCLEVELAND (AP) — Tarik Skubal wasn't seeking any sentimentality for his return from elbow surgery. Save the pats on the back and warm words for someone else.Skubal didn't win back-to-back AL Cy Young Awards on fuzzy feelings or nostalgia. The fiery left-hander is all business, and his time away from the mound didn't soften him at all.“I don’t want to play into that narrative of trying to be back,” Skubal said Saturday following his first start since April 29. "I need to be better, plain and simple. ‘Just happy to be there,’ that’s a loser mentality to me. I need to go out there and pitch and compete and give my team a chance to win and I didn’t do that.”Skubal showed some rust while pitching 4 2/3 innings as the Tigers again failed to get any timely hits (they stranded 11 runners) i n a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The left-hander had a loose body removed from his elbow in an i nnovative surgical procedure on May 6 that accelerated his return. While Skubal wasn't dominant, that hardly mattered to the Tigers. They were just happy to have No. 29 back on the mound and delivering pitches with his familiar high-leg delivery.“He didn’t execute at the level that we’re used to,” said Detroit manager A.J. Hinch. “But man, it was nice to see him out there.”Skubal was lifted after 80 pitches by Hinch, who noted it was a “weird start” given the Guardians' lineup changed dramatically in the early innings when Cleveland lost outfielders Angel Martinez (bruised foot) and Chase DeLauter (bruised ribs) to injuries.Skubal allowed five hits, struck out four and made one big mistake when he elevated a two-strike pitch to Daniel Schneemann, who connected for a two-run homer in the third inning.“If I want one pitch back, it’s the one to Schneemann,” Skubal said.Skubal was ahead 0-2 in the count when he missed with a high fastball that Schneeman, a left-handed hitter who had never faced Detroit's ace, drove 417 feet to give the Guardians a 3-1 lead.“It was bad. Really bad,” Skubal said. "On 0-2, I’m going up and away and I kind of miss. It’s not in enough and it’s not up enough. If I’m going to miss, it needs to be more in and more up. It’s a good swing on it, but the execution on it was pretty poor.”Skubal's velocity was fine, as his fastball registered in the mid-90s (mph). His breaking pitches had their usual spin, and for the most part he was pleased with his outing.“My process was really good today,” he said. "Every pitch I was bought-in on. At the end of the day, that’s all I can really control, is me trying to go out there and execute every pitch and sometimes things just don’t fall your way."Credit to those guys, too. They had some really good at-bats, and they were in on some pitches, and fouled off some pitches and took some really good pitches, too. You kind of give credit where credit is due. At the same time, I’ve got to be better to give our team a chance to win. I just didn’t do that today.”___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM49ers mourn the sudden death of former All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith at 36SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Aldon Smith, the troubled but talented pass rusher whose promising career was derailed by legal problems, has died at age 36.The San Francisco 49ers announced Smith's death on Saturday night. The team did not disclose a cause of death.“We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith,” the 49ers said in a statement. “Aldon’s undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into.”Smith was drafted by the 49ers with the 11th overall pick out of Missouri in 2011 and made an immediate impact on the team, helping San Francisco snap a playoff drought and reach the NFC title game his first three seasons with one trip to a Super Bowl.He had 14 sacks as a rookie when he finished second to Von Miller in voting for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and had a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks in 2012 when he was named a first-team All-Pro. His 33 1/2 sacks in his first two seasons are the most in NFL history. He kept that pace up with 4 1/2 sacks in the first three games in 2013 before the off-field issues started with an arrest for DUI and a stint in rehab for substance abuse that sidelined him for five games. He was also arrested on a weapons charge that season but returned to the field.“I’m getting there,” he said after his stint in 2013 on the non-football injury list. "Every day’s just a step closer to getting to where I want to be I’ve gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person.” Smith had 3 1/2 sacks in the playoffs that season but was suspended for the first nine games in 2014 and never made it back to his early level of performance because of suspensions and injuries.San Francisco then released him in August 2015 after another drunken driving charge — his fifth arrest in three years. He signed with Oakland just before the start of the 2015 season and had 3 1/2 sacks in nine games before being suspended again.“Aldon proudly wore the Silver and Black, was respected by his teammates and will be missed dearly,” the Raiders said in a statement. Smith applied for reinstatement to the NFL in 2016, but was not allowed back initially. The Raiders released him in 2018 following a domestic violence arrest. A plea agreement was reached in that case.He eventually was reinstated in 2020 and played 16 games for Dallas that season and had five sacks. He signed with Seattle the next season but was arrested again for battery and was released in training camp. He served a six-month jail sentence for DUI in 2023 and never played again in the NFL.Smith finished his career with 52 1/2 sacks in 75 games. In college he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and the recipient of Missouri’s Defensive Lineman of the Year Award in 2010.___More AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDodgers’ Yamamoto loses no-hit bid on Peters’ leadoff homer for the White Sox in the 9th inningCHICAGO — Yoshinobu Yamamoto was so close. Again.Yamamoto sailed into the ninth inning with a no-hit bid for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Tristan Peters hit a leadoff homer for the Chicago White Sox. The Japanese right-hander had to settle for a dominant performance in a 7-1 victory on Saturday. The 27-year-old Yamamoto also carried a no-hitter into the ninth at Baltimore on Sept. 6. He surrendered a solo homer to Jackson Holliday with two out, and Los Angeles went on to a frustrating 4-3 loss. This time, Alex Vesia closed it out for the Dodgers. But Yamamoto was left to wonder about another close call.“What I did, I didn’t make it, complete it, because of the ninth inning, the no-hitter,” Yamamoto said through a translator. “But how I was pitching, I was pretty satisfied.”Yamamoto, who was the World Series MVP when the Dodgers won their second consecutive championship, improved to 4-0 with a sparkling 0.94 in his last four starts. He has surrendered 14 hits and struck out 24 in 28 2/3 innings during his win streak.“He can attack the plate on both sides from ball to strike probably better than anybody I’ve ever seen,” Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior said.Yamamoto retired his last 22 batters while pitching eight innings in a 9-2 win against the Angels in his previous start. Then he retired his first 23 batters against Chicago. The streak — and Yamamoto’s bid for a perfect game — ended when shortstop Mookie Betts mishandled Chase Meidroth’s two-out grounder in the eighth inning for an error.“I’m not making any excuses. I should have made the play,” Betts said.Jacob Gonzalez bounced to second for the final out in the eighth, but Peters hit a drive to right on a 96.6 mph fastball from Yamamoto. It was Peters’ third homer of the season.Yamamoto departed after Edgar Quero flied to center for the first out in the ninth. He was saluted with a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 37,832 as he made his way off the field.“One of the best outings we’ve seen from an opponent this year,” White Sox manager Will Venable said. “The stuff was outstanding. Lived on the edges. We didn’t have a ton to hit.”Yamamoto struck out seven. He threw a season-high 109 pitches, 74 for strikes. Before the ninth inning, Chase Meidroth had the best chance for a hit for the White Sox. He had a liner hook just foul before he struck out swinging for the final out of the fifth. There was a short delay before the bottom of the sixth while the grounds crew worked on the area around the pitching rubber on the mound. But Yamamoto had no issues when the game resumed, striking out Gonzalez on a full-count cutter before Peters bounced to first and Quero fouled out to left.“He was in the zone. He kept it out of the middle. I mean, kept them off balance,” Betts said. “I mean that’s just Yoshi being Yoshi, you know. I’m glad he’s on our team.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘I will take his ‘O’ from him’: Justin Gaethje vows to end Ilia Topuria’s undefeated run in final faceoff ahead of UFC White HouseJustin Gaethje is a heavy underdog in the UFC White House main event but that hasn’t shaken his confidence as he vowed to end Ilia Topuria’s run as champion when they clash on Sunday.Just 24 hours before the card kicks off, Topuria and Gaethje faced off one final time at the ceremonial weigh-ins but this time UFC CEO Dana White didn’t let the fighters get anywhere near each other after he was surprised by a shove from “El Matador” that capped off the pre-fight press conference on Friday. This time around there was just a tense faceoff with Gaethje then delivering his prediction for what he has called his final chance to become an undisputed UFC champion.“I was absolutely made for this shit right here,” Gaethje shouted to the crowd. “I am blessed to be in this position that I am and I will take his ‘O’ from him tomorrow night. You watch.”For his part, Topuria was much more subdued at the ceremonial weigh-ins after he was fired up during the UFC White House press conference. The reigning and defending UFC lightweight champion soaked in the moment and explained what Sunday night’s fight means to him.“Since I was a kid I always heard this little call ‘the American dream,’” Topuria said. “I never really understood the meaning of that word. But tomorrow night, we are going to live the American dream.“I’m going to get another victory. 18-0. I’m going to get that victory with fashion. See you tomorrow night. Let’s go.”In the co-main event, Alex Pereira received the biggest ovation of the night as he stared down Ciryl Gane before they meet with the interim heavyweight title going up for grabs. Pereira is seeking to become the first ever three-division champion in UFC history after already capturing gold at light heavyweight and middleweight. The spiciest faceoff on Saturday came from the heavyweights as Josh Hokit and Derrick Lewis got a little too close to comfort with security eventually pulling them apart before the situation escalated any further. Hokit put on a bizarre performance at the UFC White House press conference and that only seemed to fire up Lewis even more for the fight.Hokit is seeking to stay undefeated after his potential Fight of the Year win over Curtis Blaydes while Lewis was a late addition after President Donald Trump personally requested his presence and White booked the matchup as the seventh and final fight on the card.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy New York Knicks fans should be happy about Scott Foster’s role in Game 5 of the NBA FinalsPhoto by David Berding/Getty ImagesNew York Knicks fans already had plenty of reason to feel good before Game 5 of the NBA Finals, and Scott Foster’s assignment gave them one more trend to enjoy. The Knicks lead the San Antonio Spurs 3-1, sit one win from their first championship since 1973, and enter the night with momentum from a stunning Game 4 comeback.Referees do not win games, but certain numbers still travel quickly when a title can be decided.Photo by Lachlan Cunningham/Getty ImagesScott Foster trend gives New York Knicks fans another Game 5 talking pointIn a post shared by Legion Hoops on X, a notable Knicks trend with Foster was highlighted before Game 5.“The Knicks are 10-0 in their last 10 games with Scott Foster as the lead referee.”That stat does not mean Foster is the reason New York have won those games, and it should not be treated as a guarantee. The Knicks still have to close out a Spurs team led by Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio. It does, however, explain why Knicks fans would take the assignment as a positive sign. A 10-game winning run under the same lead official is exactly the kind of detail fanbases hold onto before a potential championship clincher.New York Knicks’ 3-1 lead makes Scott Foster note feel worse for San Antonio SpursThe Foster trend lands harder because the series already favors New York. The Knicks lead 3-1 after beating the Spurs 107-106 in Game 4, a night when San Antonio blew a 29-point advantage and watched OG Anunoby tip in the winner with 1.2 seconds left. That loss left the Spurs needing three straight wins to take the title. Only one team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals, the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers, so San Antonio’s path is already narrow before any referee storyline enters the picture. For the Knicks, the combination is simple: one win needed, a historic drought waiting to end and a recent Foster trend that leans completely their way. For the Spurs, it is another uncomfortable subplot before an elimination game where everything already has to go right.New York cannot rely on an officiating trend to finish the job, but fans looking for omens before Game 5 have an obvious one. The Knicks have won their last 10 with Foster leading the crew, and one more win would finally deliver the championship they have chased for 53 years.Read more:NBA fans react to Sydney Sweeney wearing Jalen Brunson’s jersey at Knicks vs. Spurs Game 5Amar’e Stoudemire reveals if Taylor Swift is a real New York Knicks fan or notFrost Bank Center security guard’s admission will crush San Antonio Spurs’ 3-1 comeback hopes0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 3 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

What draw with Morocco means for global powerhouse's World Cup future originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Brazil and Morocco conjured spells in the opening match of the Group C slate of games. Vinicius Jr. uncorked a pearler toward the end of the first half, saving a point against an Atlas Lions side that looked well-equipped to compete for a deep run in the World Cup.Carlo Ancelotti’s side showed signs of life as the match progressed. Vinicius Jr. was the standout player, dancing and prancing around the pitch while offering a steady stream of defensive contributions. Fabinho helped shore things up in midfield, while a late Alisson double save ensured that Selecao would take something from the grinding affair. While Brazil’s resilience should be commended, its performance occasionally left something to be desired. There is also the case of the result, which has some wondering just where the Brazilians will finish in the group table. With that, here is what you need to know about Brazil’s prospects of securing a spot in the Round of 32.2026 WORLD CUP HQ:Latest World Cup news | Full World Cup scheduleWill Brazil get out of group stage?Brazil's path to the knockout stage remains fairly straightforward despite its result on Saturday evening. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM49ers mourn the sudden death of former All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith at 36Aldon Smith, the troubled but talented pass rusher whose promising career was derailed by legal problems, has died at age 36.The San Francisco 49ers announced Smith’s death on Saturday night. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into.”Smith was drafted by the 49ers with the 11th overall pick out of Missouri in 2011 and made an immediate impact on the team, helping San Francisco snap a playoff drought and reach the NFC title game his first three seasons with one trip to a Super Bowl.He had 14 sacks as a rookie when he finished second to Von Miller in voting for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and had a franchise-record 19 1/2 sacks in 2012 when he was named a first-team All-Pro.His 33 1/2 sacks in his first two seasons are the most in NFL history. “Every day’s just a step closer to getting to where I want to be I’ve gotten a lot of support, from my family, friends, organization, teammates and everything. And it really says a lot that people care about me outside the field and they care about me as a person.”Smith had 3 1/2 sacks in the playoffs that season but was suspended for the first nine games in 2014 and never made it back to his early level of performance because of suspensions and injuries.San Francisco then released him in August 2015 after another drunken driving charge — his fifth arrest in three years. He signed with Oakland just before the start of the 2015 season and had 3 1/2 sacks in nine games before being suspended again.“Aldon proudly wore the Silver and Black, was respected by his teammates and will be missed dearly,” the Raiders said in a statement.Smith applied for reinstatement to the NFL in 2016, but was not allowed back initially. In college he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection and the recipient of Missouri’s Defensive Lineman of the Year Award in 2010.Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts.Follow Channel 11 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch WPXI NOW0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReports: Multiple Serie A clubs showing interest in loan move for Giovanni DaffaraFROSINONE, ITALY - JULY 26: Giovanni Daffara of Avellino looks on during Pre-Season Friendly Match between Avellino v Lazio at Stadio Benito Stirpe on July 26, 2025 in Frosinone, Italy. (Photo by Image Photo Agency/Getty Images) | Getty Images It has been a good amount of time since Juventus had a goalkeeper prospect that got people interested in what he was doing while out on loan in a lower division of Italian football. But during this past season, Giovanni Daffara, a product of the Juve youth academy, bucked that trend, with his season-long loan spell at Avellino in Serie B thought to be a highly-productive spell in Italy’s second division.Naturally, the question becomes this: What’s next for the 21-year-old Daffara? While we don’t know for sure just yet, a few options appear to be potentially developing.According to a pair of reports over the past week, Daffara has multiple Serie A clubs interested in bringing him in on loan for the 2026-27 season. Who are they, you ask? It’s a trio of clubs in Italy’s top flight — Udinese, Cagliari and Lecce — as well as recently-relegated Pisa, which may seem unlikely considering he just had quite a good season in Serie B and making a step up looks to be the most logical option. Avellino are expected to pick up their option to buy Daffara this summer, but with Juventus having a buy-back option of their own, that only seems procedural so that the Serie B side can make a little bit of a profit on a player who spent a total of 10 or so months at the club.Even with a loan move looking likely for the upcoming season, Daffara — who is expected to renew his contract with Juventus at some point this summer — could very well be part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad during this summer’s pre-season tour to Australia and Hong Kong.La Juventus devrait exercer sa clause de rachat pour récupérer Giovanni Daffara 🇮🇹Cagliari, l'Udinese, Lecce et Pise adorent son profil pour un prêt 🧐(🗣️@_Morik92_) https://t.co/PDdvC3VRVtpic.twitter.com/8pR3povNW4— Gazzett'Azzurri🇮🇹 (@GazzettAzzurri) June 10, 2026Daffara received his first-ever call-up to Italy’s senior squad last month as part of the extremely experimental and young squad assembled by interim head coach Silvio Baldini. Considering the fact that Italy captain Gianluigi Donnarumma was one of the few regulars to be called up by Baldini, seeing Daffara in action was never likely. However, it still was a nice way to cap a good season for a young goalkeeper looking to take the next step in his career. This past season, Daffara appeared in — and started — 25 games for Avellino. Once he made his first start on Matchday 10 against Pescara, he never relinquished the starting spot for an Avellino side that ended up finishing eighth in the Serie B table. His counting numbers likely tell only some of the story — he finished with a save percentage of 67.3% and allowed 39 goals in his 25 starts. He faced a whopping 104 shots on target in those 25 appearances, recording three clean sheets and making 71 saves in total. So how about we look at some visual evidence of Daffara’s season on loan with Avellino, OK? Here ya go …OK, yes … it is a YouTube compilation of Daffara’s saves at Avellino with questionable music accompanying it. However, it’s something to see about the work he did while out on loan this past season. Sure, you don’t see the mistakes that he may have made, and I’m not sitting here trying to convince you that I was watching Avellino games every weekend and grinding tape of every Serie B matchday they played. But it’s a start — and you can certainly see that there is a talent in his 6-foot-4 frame.Where that talent plays next season still remains to be seen. But Serie A clubs are interested, and that is hopefully the next step in a young goalkeeper’s development that could very well lead him back to Turin on a more permanent basis one day soon.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWashington State's Rosemary Longisa wins national championship in 1,500Jun. 13—EUGENE — Rosemary Longisa entered Saturday's 1,500-meter national final as the top-ranked runner in the event, and the Washington State sophomore left no doubt, separating for a comfortable victory to claim her first NCAA championship and cement herself as a Cougar great.Longisa didn't have her best performance in the sweltering Oregon heat, but still delivered a convincing victory at Hayward Field during the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She paced the pack the whole way, then turned it up on the final stretch, breaking away by several strides and crossing the finish with a time of 4:12.10. She came in 0.79 second ahead of second-place Salma Elbadra of South Carolina."I'm so happy. It's like, I came here for a comeback, in a good way," Longisa told ESPN after the race. She had placed second nationally in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. The result was a fitting end to the season for WSU's young phenom from Kenya, who had been building up to this moment with a string of outstanding runs in recent months — none more impressive than her 4:02.55 finish during a meet in April in Southern California. That mark was the nation's best in the 1,500 this season, and the second-fastest time in the event in NCAA women's history. She cruised to a first-place finish (4:06.41) in the national semifinal on Thursday, then became the first woman in WSU history to win the national title in the 1,500. Longisa is also the first Coug woman to win a national title in any event since 2003, and her championship was the fourth overall in WSU women's program history. And with two more seasons left, there's still plenty of time for Longisa to win more.In the day's next event, University of Idaho junior Constanze Paoli placed 11th in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase national final with a time of 10:08.28.BYU's Taylor Lovell won the title with a time of 9:21.03.Paoli won the Big Sky championship in the event with a program-record time, then broke her record on Thursday in the national semifinals, placing 10th overall with a time of 9:44.85 to qualify for the final.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMichael Bisping rates rival coaches he's faced on The Ultimate FighterWASHINGTON – Michael Bisping has quite the history with The Ultimate Fighter. Not only did Bisping enter the UFC by winning season three of The Ultimate Fighter, but the former UFC champion also served as a coach for three seasons of the reality T.V. series. Bisping's first season as a coach came in 2009 when he coached Team United Kingdom on season nine of TUF against Dan Henderson, who coached Team U.S. Bisping then returned to the show again in 2011, coaching opposite to Jason Miller. Now, 15 years later, Bisping just wrapped his third season of TUF, this time competing with his friend and fellow retired fighter turned UFC commentator Daniel Cormier. So, that leaves the question: Who's the most annoying rival coach Bisping has to compete against? "Dan Henderson wasn't annoying at all," Bisping told MMA Junkie. "He's a very level-headed guy, so he wasn't annoying at all. DC's awesome. He's the man, but he's also the man. He picks his times. He wants it like this. He wants it like that. But come on, without a shadow of a doubt, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller, right? Being around him for that long, I couldn't wait to fight him. But wish him all the best. That was a long time ago."Bisping fought Henderson and Miller after the show. He lost by KO to Henderson and beat Miller by TKO. Coaching against Cormier, given they're friends, retired, and in different weight classes, will not result in a fight between the two, contrary to the usual dynamic of TUF.In terms of the pool of talent recruited for the show, Bisping has been beyond impressed. "I'll say this: the talent, and I'm not just saying this as a PR guy or a company guy like every nobhead online says, the talent is so good," Bisping explained. "It's crazy. I'm like, what can I show these guys? I mean, obviously, I can tell them how to prepare for a fight, how to get them in shape, and how to mentally prepare. But all of them, like we had one lady that's like a four-time jiu-jitsu world champion. We had incredible wrestlers from, you know, other parts of the world where they've got great wrestling cultures. We had some amazing strikers. These guys came in, and they've been doing MMA since they were like six, seven years old. So they can do it all. Yeah, it was great, man. Me and DC we had some fun, you know. I lost my hair through stress, maybe. I got it back, though. Don't worry."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Michael Bisping rates rival coaches he's faced on The Ultimate Fighter0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC White House full fight: Justin Gaethje dominates Paddy PimblettJustin Gaethje silenced many on his rise back to title contention.Gaethje, two-time UFC interim champion and long-time staple of the lightweight division, received what many at one point thought was an unlikely title shot back in January. Despite having No. 1 contender Arman Tsarukyan looking to get his opportunity, Gaethje was matched up against Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight title at UFC 324. Not only did many not like Gaethje's of getting the interim fight, but they didn't like his chances of winning it. Gaethje entered as an underdog against Pimblett. Despite the adversity, Gaethje dominated the British fighter from start to finish, taking home his second interim belt. You can watch Gaethje's big win over Pimblett in the video above.Gaethje (27-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) returns to the cage this Sunday against UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) in a title unification bout. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCuracao can shock Germany on World Cup debut, says AdvocaatDick Advocaat is hoping Curacao can shock Germany at the World Cup (Molly Darlington)Curacao coach Dick Advocaat believes the tiny Caribbean island can "steal some points" from four-time winners Germany on their tournament debut on Sunday. The 78-year-old Dutchman will also become the oldest coach in World Cup history and will take charge of a third different nation at a World Cup after the Netherlands and South Korea.Despite his vast experience in both the club and international game, Advocaat said the team spirit that has carried a nation of just 160,000 to the World Cup is the best he has seen."The team spirit in this team is something I've never seen before. As a country we will give everything to win for the island, but we're not the favourite," Advocaat said at his pre-match press conference on Saturday."When you are participating with the Netherlands or a bigger team, you are one of the favourites. Now it is just amazing to be a part of this."We would like to show them what we can do and what we're worth. And for the island of Curacao, it is amazing what we have shown the people over the past two years."A daunting task awaits Advocaat's side.As well as facing Germany in Group E, they will take on an Ecuador side that finished second in South American qualifying and African powerhouses Ivory Coast."I think we will have to steal some points, but in a legitimate way. We want to show them that we have a good plan," added Advocaat"Germany will be the dominant team and that is normal."Curacao's carefree attitude has already won admirers online with players singing and dancing bare-chested on the team bus in a viral social media post."We are a nation that we love to have a little bit of a party as well," said captain Leandro Bacuna. "We love to have fun."Bacuna, like most of his team-mates, was born in the Netherlands but is proud of his heritage and the achievement of putting Curacao on the map."People sometimes say I'm not really from Curacao. But these are people, my parents, who had been looking for opportunities and these opportunities are not always present on Curacao," added the former Aston Villa midfielder."But we are Curacaoans and we love Curacao!"kca/gj0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

But the 76ers took the next three games, with Hal Greer's 28 points and Chamberlain's 16 rebounds leading to a Game 4 win that made it 3-1.The Celtics, however, came back to force a Game 7; Russell had 24 rebounds in Game 5 and another 31 in Game 6. Also owning a deep group of role players, Detroit appeared poised for a deep playoff run for the first time in decades. Then, the Pistons ran into trouble in the first round. An Orlando team with plenty of defensive talent, plus a capable No. 1 scorer in Paolo Banchero, used its size to slow down Detroit's offense and stunningly take a 3-1 series lead as the No. 8 seed. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Yankees have moved into first place in the AL East for the first time in quite a while this season. They have been playing better recently after a somewhat sluggish start. However, the Yankees suffered a major setback a week ago when they lost their best player, Aaron Judge. Judge is expected to miss significant time with a stress fracture in his rib.“Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge said the stress fracture in his right rib stems from him diving for a ball in late April and that he played through discomfort for over a month until the pain became unbearable over the weekend in Sacramento. The three-time American League MVP declined to discuss a timetable for return to play,” ESPN’s Jorge Castillo wrote. With Judge sidelined, the Yankees could look to add a power bat at the trade deadline. Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy believes Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki could be a potential target.“The Yankees just lost Aaron Judge and it's unclear when he will be back. With New York, it's a simpler fit. With Judge out, the Yankees could use another star and Suzuki would easily fill that role,” McAvoy wrote.Adding Suzuki would significantly boost the Yankees’ lineup and outfield depth. New York could ultimately stand pat at the deadline, but if they do make a move, adding an outfielder remains a realistic possibility.“If they do (make trades), then it's still about October, and for that part of the calendar, they might look at adding another righty bat, perhaps a third baseman and, certainly, some bullpen help," ESPN’s Bradford Doolittle wrote.Suzuki has been a Silver Slugger finalist in two separate seasons, showcasing his power at the plate—exactly the type of production the Yankees need in Judge’s absence.Suzuki is currently on an $85 million contract and will become a free agent after this season. That makes him an appealing rental option for New York. There is minimal long-term commitment involved, and his offensive ability would provide an immediate boost to the Yankees’ roster.More MLB news:Blue Jays predicted to trade for $6.2M All-Star to stack rotation with Dylan Cease, Max ScherzerBraves predicted to part ways with $20M underachieving Gold Glove winner at trade deadlineBraves predicted to go all-in for $32M 2-time Cy Young winner after Spencer Strider injuryPhillies predicted to trade for $100M Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger after Adolis Garcia injury0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPREP BASEBALL: NorthWood shuts down Norwell 3-0 to advance to semistate championshipLAPORTE — An eight-pitch sequence in the bottom of the fourth inning meant postseason life and a possible death for the NorthWood Panthers in their Saturday semistate semifinal game against Norwell at Schreiber Field.NorthWood junior starting pitcher Finley Miller welcomed his infielders and his head coach to the mound when a bunted ball loaded the bases with one out for the Knights. With the Panthers clinging to a 1-0 lead, head coach Zach Benko didn’t remember what he told his group, but he clearly explained a way out for his ball club. After a first-pitch strike to Norwell’s Trey Privett, the starting catcher fell for a well-executed NorthWood trap.“We had film, and we had seen them do some squeezing in bases loaded-situations in previous games,” Benko said. “We knew it’d be a possibility and the I saw something that tipped me off that it was probably going to happen here and so we put the call on — a verbal call — and the boys executed perfectly.”Privett was thrown a high fastball and he bunted the ball up. As the ball skied toward the home dugout, NorthWood catcher Ryder Ransberger discarded his mask and made the thrilling catch at the fence to pick up the second out of the inning. Miller, who has been given the nickname “Phil” by his peers, would get behind a 3-1 count to Norwell’s Carter Castello, but he’d secure his sixth strikeout of the game to leave ’em loaded.“We talked about that all day coming into the game,” Ransberger said about his catch in the fourth inning of a NorthWood 3-0 win over the Knights. “If they’re going to try and squeeze, we’re going to go fastball-up and try to get him to pop it up. We worked on that every day and so it wasn’t too difficult. I was just glad that Phil executed and we got that out.”NorthWood (19-12-1) will now play for the Class 3A semistate championship against No. 1 Andrean (29-3) in LaPorte at 7 p.m. CT. Andrean defeated DeKalb 2-0 in the second semifinal game. The Panthers beat Norwell 3-1 in the semistate semifinal last season in LaPorte before a 4-0 championship loss to Andrean. The Fighting 59ers went on to win the Class 3A state title and have already guaranteed themselves a spot in Class 4A next season.Norwell out-hit NorthWood 4-3 on Saturday, but the Knights were never able to bring home a run against Miller. The Wawasee transfer threw all seven innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.“He was changing speeds, stayed within himself and did a nice job finding spots,” Benko said. “He understood where the zone was the entire game.”NorthWood took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Ean Bogan took a leadoff walk. Bogan advanced two bases on a pair of passed balls. Eventually, sophomore Brody Rondeau drove the run in with a two-out single through the left side of the infield.“That has been a shift, but it didn’t start today,” Benko said about Bogan, who finished the game 0 of 1 at the plate with three walks. “For him, he’s been much better in the state tournament and he’s been seeing a lot of pitches for our entire team and he’s really setting the table nicely so pitchers are having to throw him everything to get him out.”Norwell’s Dylan Chism would allow the first earned run of the game, but he’d shut the NorthWood offense down for much of the game. The Panthers didn’t record a third hit until the sixth inning.Up 1-0 and having gained momentum in the bottom of the fourth, NorthWood added some insurance runs in the sixth. A leadoff walk to Miller opened the frame before Ransberger turned on a 2-2 count. He sliced a ball down the left field line for a double, which scored Miller from third. Jett Rulli would hit a ball to shortstop, but an error by the Knights scored Ransberger for commanding 3-0 lead.“We were really having good at-bats the entire game and we were seeing a lot of pitches,” Benko said.“I was trying to just hit the ball hard,” Ransberger said. “He had struck me out on a fastball earlier and so I was just making sure that it wasn’t going to get by me again. He threw me a curveball and I just hit it well.”In the bottom of the seventh, Miller would give up a single to the first batter. He’d recover by getting a lineout to centerfield, a swinging strikeout and an infield popup for the final out.PREP BASEBALLClass 3A Northern Semistate Semifinal – At Schreiber Field in LaPorteNorthWood – 1; 0; 0; 0; 0; 3; 0 – 3; 3; 0Norwell – 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 0; 0 – 0; 4; 1Championship: NorthWood (19-12-1) vs. #1 Andrean (29-3) – 7 p.m. CT0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEquipment stolen from England's World Cup team recovered, BBC saysStolen equipment belonging to England's World Cup team has been recovered, CBS News partner BBC News reported Saturday. The gear was stolen "at some point between their over-the-road transport from Florida to their arrival at the training facility in Kansas City," Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas said on social media Saturday. Lucas said authorities at the "local, state and federal levels" were investigating the theft. The vehicles transporting equipment from Florida to Kansas City arrived without the equipment, the BBC said. Footwear and soccer balls were among the items taken, the BBC reported, but the theft did not include anything "game-critical." It's not clear when the items were stolen or how they were recovered. Two arrests have been made in connection with the incident, the BBC reported, citing sources. No other information was immediately available. The England team arrived in Kansas City's Swope Soccer Village Saturday. England goalkeeper Dean Henderson addressed the issue when asked by reporters following the team's arrival in Kansas City. "To be honest, I didn't really notice anything about it until you started saying," Henderson said. "I believe all the boots came back, we got everything back, so nobody's bothered."They will have their first training session on Sunday, and play their first World Cup match against Croatia, in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMN.Y. mayor, gov claim ‘New York IS the World Cup’ while sitting in a stadium in N.J.Despite appearing together at a stadium indisputably located in New Jersey’s Meadowlands for the World Cup on Saturday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s offices kept up their social media feud about which state is truly hosting.“So we both agree New York IS the World Cup?” the New York governor’s press office posted to X, formerly Twitter, in response to a photo of Hochul and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during Saturday‘s match at MetLife Stadium. Sherrill’s office simply replied, “Photo taken in East Rutherford, New Jersey.”While the social media comments are made in jest, there’s real debate over whether New Jersey is getting the credit it deserves for hosting the World Cup. New York and New Jersey won a joint bid to host World Cup matches — including the July 19 final — together. But Garden State residents have been particularly irritated by the temporary renaming of MetLife Stadium to “New York New Jersey Stadium” for the global soccer tournament.Sherrill advocated for New Jersey’s name to appear first at the stadium, according to a report by the Athletic. One of the two major signs outside the stadium has been changed since then.View this post on InstagramAs the world’s biggest sporting event gets underway in New Jersey, Sherrill has been hyping up the state’s reputation and role in hosting eight matches.Prior to Saturday’s 6 p.m. match, Sherrill posted another video to X welcoming fans to the “greatest state in the United States of America.”“How do we know? Because we were chosen to host the FIFA World Cup final,” Sherrill said. “There is nothing like hosting the World Cup.”Despite the tension online, New York and New Jersey’s leaders ended up sitting together for the first game at the East Rutherford venue. But online, the two states continued to taunt each other. “We excited for the Knicks tonight? Whatever happened to your basketball team?” Hochul’s press office posted on X. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGermany vs. Curacao features World Cup's youngest and oldest coachesHOUSTON — In the World Cup game between Curacao and Germany on Sunday, June 14, one of the most intriguing matchups will take place on the sidelines.Curacao's Dick Advocaat, 78, is the oldest head coach in the 2026 World Cup while Germany's Julian Nagelsmann is the youngest at 38. The 40-year age gap between them is the largest ever between two coaches in a FIFA World Cup match. Advocaat is also the oldest coach in World Cup history. On June 13, the day before the match, both men expressed admiration for each other. But when Nagelsmann was asked whether he hopes to still be coaching when he's Advocaat's age, he laughed.“No, not really," Nagelsmann said. "I love my job but I hope I have some different things to do at that age. But Dick Advocaat is a brilliant guy. I think he’s a really cool coach who (did) a brilliant job with Curacao’s incredible history that they qualified for the World Cup for the first time." In return, Advocaat referenced the injuries that ended Nagelsmann's playing career at age 20 and joked, "I can understand because he received a lot of money when he was retired young. I keep going on because I like it, not because of the money, I want to be clear about that.”Advocaat helped Curacao qualify for its first-ever World Cup as the smallest nation to ever play in the tournament. In his decades long career, the Dutchman has coached several well-known European club teams as well as the national teams of the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia and South Korea.Nagelsmann, meanwhile, is somewhat of a coaching prodigy. He was 28 when he was hired as head coach of German club Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, and was 33 when he became the youngest coach to make the Champions League semifinals with Leipzig. In 2021, he was hired to coach Bayern Munich and in 2023 appointed to lead the German national team. "He has proved himself at a very young age. He is an excellent coach," Advocaat said. "Curacao, we will make life very difficult for him tomorrow, or at least we will try. But he’s an excellent coach.”Nagelsmann said he had met Advocaat a few times before. "I always can learn from people like him," Nagelsmann said. "Tomorrow for the game I will say 'hello' and we will fight during the game, and after the game we will be friends. So let’s see what will happen tomorrow.”This is Advocaat's third World Cup with a third different team. He led the Netherlands to the quarterfinals in 1994 and coached South Korea in 2006, where they were eliminated in the group stage. Both of those countries had extensive World Cup history, unlike Curacao. “It was a big difference because those teams were under a lot more pressure than this team. We have everything to win and nothing to lose," Advocaat said. "We (Curacao) think we can still surprise somebody and that’s what we have to try tomorrow, and then the next game and the next game. And at the end, we will see what we have done.”Although Germany is favored to beat Curacao, Nagelsmann said his squad aren't underestimating their opponents. "We hear about David and Goliath and we see this a lot in football," he said. "In the end it counts only for the performance, not who’s favored or not.” This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Curacao v. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMets score just one run in loss to BravesIf you knew that Sean Manaea and the Mets’ bullpen would hold the Braves to just three runs over the course of a game, you might’ve thought the Mets would win. That would take a lot of faith in a Mets lineup that has struggled to score runs all too often this year, but if you saw Manaea pitch over the first few weeks of the season, you’d be thrilled at the prospect of a win. That’s not what happened, though, as the Mets scored just once in the game, adding another poor performance at the plate to their dubious record on the season.Mark Vientos drove in the Mets’ sole run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, and the team might’ve scored one more if not for a home run replay review that resulted in a would-be home run in the ninth. As for the pitchers, Manaea went six innings, struck out six, walked two, and gave up two runs on four hits. That’s his best appearance of the season by far. Austin Warren gave up a run over the course of two innings of work, and Daniel Duarte threw a scoreless inning in the top of the ninth. The Mets will attempt to win the series and improve upon their 31-39 record on the season in the series finale tomorrow afternoon 1:40 PM EDT.SB Nation GameThreadsAmazin’ AvenueBattery PowerBox scoresMLB.comESPNWin Probability AddedWPA to follow0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 2 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

The bout, taking place later today, will be contested at light heavyweight (205 pounds), a move up for both fighters.MMA Fighting shared footage of Chimaev weighing in at 203.4 pounds for his first match under the wrestling promotion. While he hasn’t fought at this weight class in MMA, he previously faced Jack Hermansson in a catchweight wrestling match at 187 pounds.Danis tipped the scales right on the light heavyweight limit, coming in exactly at 205 pounds ahead of his second appearance in the promotion. He’s looking to bounce back from a loss to Colby Covington earlier this year.Reports suggested that one reason for his difficult cut last month was that he had been preparing for a move up to light heavyweight and started camp heavier than usual before being told to defend his belt at 185 pounds instead. The co-main event fighters also made weight without issue. Arman Tsarukyan weighed in at 169 pounds, while Tony Ferguson came in slightly lighter at 165.6 pounds.Read more:Jon Jones signals major career shake-up: Will trade UFC octagon for RAF?Fight of the year?
