NYPD Reports There Were ‘Many Incidents of Incredibly Reckless and Dangerous Behavior’ After Knicks NBA Finals Victory
New York Knicks fans celebrate their victory after Game 5 of the NBA Finals basketball series against the San Antonio Spurs, Saturday, June 13, 2026, in New York. (AP Photo/Heather Khalifa)Rather than peacefully celebrating their favorite team winning its first NBA title in 53 years, a number of New York Knicks fans opted for “incredibly destructive” behavior on Saturday night, according to a NYPD report.“As the game progressed and then following the game, the crowds became increasingly destructive, and there were many incidents of incredibly reckless and dangerous behavior,” the NYPD said in a statement. That mayhem — according to police — included one shooting, four stabbings, five school buses lit on fire, and 10 NYPD cops getting injured. The shooting happened at 43rd street and Broadway – about 10 blocks away from the Knicks’ Madison Square Garden home arena; the 17-year-old victim was shot in the foot and had to be rushed by police car to the hospital because fans had “completely took over” the streets; the victim’s status is unclear.Three people of interest were taken into custody for the shooting and the firearm was recovered at the scene. The burnt school buses were being used to transport fans to the World Cup when they were stopped and attacked by the rowdy fans; some of this was captured and shared on social media. There were five cop cars that were also “badly damaged” after fans smashed them with baseball bats and jumped on them, according to the NYPD report. As for the 10 injured cops, one was punched in the face and another was smacked in the head with a glass bottle.A total of 63 people were arrested late on Saturday and early on Sunday morning due to the out-of-control celebrations. Some of the charges included assaulting an officer, criminal possession of a gun, and disorderly conduct.Other parts of NYC were seen on social media celebrating the title in a less-destructive way, with fans from SoHo to the Upper East Side to Brooklyn and other boroughs taking to the streets — and bars — to party.President Donald Trumpcongratulated his hometown Knicks and his pal, owner James Dolan, in a Truth Social post soon after Knicks beat San Antonio.“Tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson,” Trump said, after the point guard scored 45 points. “And there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”The post NYPD Reports There Were ‘Many Incidents of Incredibly Reckless and Dangerous Behavior’ After Knicks NBA Finals Victory first appeared on Mediaite.

Braves’ Rival Boss Sends ‘Exceptional’ Message After Surprise Breakout
Flushing, N.Y.: New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns speaks to the media during the team's pre-opening day workout at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, March 25, 2026. (Photo by Thomas A. Ferrara/Newsday RM via Getty Images)Newsday via Getty ImagesThe Atlanta Braves entered the season expecting to face a significant challenge from their division rivals, particularly after the New York Mets revamped their own roster with several star additions. But instead the Braves have established themselves as the team to beat in the National League East, taking the top spot from a rival that many expected to serve as the frontrunner. And that surprise breakout drew frank praise from a key Mets executive whose own team has struggled to find the same level of consistency. FORBES | By Peter ChawagaGiants’ 3-Year Infielder Cut By Hated Rival After Injury SetbackNew York Mets Boss Responds To Atlanta Braves’ Unexpected RiseSpeaking about the division race during the teams series this week, New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns offered a glowing assessment of the rival club that has become one of the National League’s toughest opponents.During a recent media session, Stearns acknowledged just how impressive Atlanta's run has been to start a season that his team might have hoped to dominate.“They’ve played exceptional on all sides of the ball,” Stearns said, per SNY, when asked about what his team has failed to do to make good on preseason expectations in the division. “You can make an argument they're the best team in baseball right now, or have played the best in baseball right now. They deserve a lot of credit for that. And we have not, we've played inconsistent… They deserve to be where they are."Rather than downplaying the competition or acknowledging the surprising flip following preseason expectations, Stearns openly acknowledged that the rival's success has been earned.FORBES | By Peter ChawagaCubs Decline To Apologize After Controversial Spanish Broadcast BumpAtlanta Braves, New York Mets Series Offers Glimpse Into Playoff PushThe recent set between the Braves and Mets offered a glimpse into how the surprise breakout in the division might be challenged by the preseason favorite going forward. On Saturday, one of the Mets’ biggest offseason acquisitions offered a glimpse into why the team invested so much into him.“...the Mets, despite their share of flaws, won a 7-5 game over the Braves at Citi Field behind a Bo Bichette grand slam and another heavy bullpen effort,” Anthony DiComo noted for MLB.com. “The win may not have done much to change the NL East or Wild Card races, or even to lift the Mets from last place in the division. But it was enough to prove — for one night, at least — that they can compete with the teams they’ll need to beat to grind their way back into postseason contention.”While that victory offered a brief bright spot for New York, Stearns' remarks underscored the broader reality of the season. The organization he runs is still searching for consistency, while the Braves, a breakout club he couldn’t help but praise, continues to stack wins and earn respect throughout the sport. For Braves fans, hearing a division rival publicly describe another contender as potentially "the best team in baseball right now" served as a reminder of how dramatically the National League landscape has shifted during the 2026 season. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Could the 49ers see a shakeup at safety this offseason?
The San Francisco 49ers didn’t have the best results from their safety room last offseason, as they rotated between Ji’Ayir Brown, Malik Mustapha, and rookie Marques Sigle. Many expected a step up from the young group, but the 49ers had inconsistent results in the secondary that led to questions this offseason. A part of that could’ve been from the lack of pass rush, which San Francisco is hoping for, as they didn’t make many major changes in the backend this offseason. But, there were a few smaller signings, including the ones of Nate Hobbs (one year, $3.5 million deal), Ashtyn Davis (one year, $1.8 million), and Jack Jones (1 year, $1.2 million).Hobbs seems likely to make the roster, as $3.11 million of the $3.5 million he’s receiving is fully guaranteed at signing. Davis and Jones, on the other hand, don’t have much guaranteed money on their smaller deals, so a spot isn’t guaranteed for them this offseason.Still, that didn’t keep Donte Whitner from believing that Davis could push Ji’Ayir Brown for his starting job this offseason.“I don’t think this move was made for him to be a backup,” Whitner said of the Davis signing on his podcast. “He’s coming to this team to compete for a starting job. “I think this was a move to Ji’Ayir Brown and said, ‘We gave you two years as a starter.’ In this third year, we cannot allow you to be a detriment to our success, and if you start the season the way that you ended last season, we have a bunch of other guys in this locker room that we will replace you with.’”Davis was a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and spent five seasons with them before playing with the Miami Dolphins in 2025.He was a full-time starter for the second time in his six-year career last season, making 12 starts in 15 games, while playing 75 percent of the defensive snaps. Overall, he had 65 tackles, four pass breakups, a forced fumble, and an interception, while allowing a passer rating of 121.8, per Pro Football Reference.San Francisco does have an open spot at safety if they choose to carry four on the 53-man roster this season. Currently, their room consists of Brown, Malik Mustapha, Marques Sigle, Davis, undrafted rookie Jalen Stroman, and third-year pro Patrick McMorris.Davis also has a ton of special teams experience, playing a significant role there in each of the last four seasons. So, that could be another reason to use a roster spot on him, aside from his manageable contract and experience.Despite the inconsistent results, San Francisco has been quite confident in Brown, who played in 74 percent of the defensive snaps in 2026 after seeing 83 percent of the defensive snaps in 2025. Perhaps the improvements up front will help the 49ers defense at safety, but there very well could be a competition in the room brewing this offseason.

Junior Kroupi back on Barcelona’s agenda amid Julian Alvarez doubts
BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND - MAY 19: Eli Junior Kroupi of AFC Bournemouth celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Bournemouth and Manchester City at Vitality Stadium on May 19, 2026 in Bournemouth, England. (Photo by Eddie Keogh/Getty Images) | Getty Images Junior Kroupi is back on the agenda at Barcelona amid doubts over the club’s ability to get a deal for Julian Alvarez over the line.Alvarez remains the club’s No. 1 target but Barca are under no illusions about how difficult it will be to prise the Argentina from Atletico this summer. An update from Diario Sport states that Barcelona currently see Kroupi as the “most viable” alternative to Alvarez if they do miss out on the Argentina international. However, the Catalans also think it will be a “risky” move as Kroupi is still only 19 and lacks top level experience. Ideally, they’d rather wait to try and bring him in but that might not be possible as a new striker is a must this summer. There’s also the fact that Bournemouth are asking for 100 million euros for Kroupi. The report suggests Kroupi’s valuation is more like 70m and that Barca could possibly include a player in any potential deal.Kroupi would love the move but for now Barca’s focus remains on Alvarez. However, if Atletico refuse to negotiate, Barca may be forced to look elsewhere.

Game #71: Rockies at Athletics Game Thread
Jun 8, 2026; Summerlin, Nevada, USA; Athletics pitcher Jeffrey Springs (59) throws the ball during the second inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at the Las Vegas Ballpark. Mandatory Credit: Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images | Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images This afternoon, the Athletics seek to wrap up their week in Las Vegas by completing a sweep of the Colorado Rockies. The past two nights, the A’s emerged victorious in back-and-forth contests, overcoming blown leads to retake the advantage and fend off the Rockies over the final few innings.A’s left-hander Jeffrey Springs, who was originally scheduled to start yesterday’s contest, will instead get the ball for the last game of the series. The 33-year-old will be the lone A’s starter making his second start of the week, and he will face the added challenge of pitching in what is expected to be triple-digit heat. Springs enters his 15th start of the season with a 3-6 record, a 4.68 ERA and 63 strikeouts over 75 innings pitched. He started the first game of the Las Vegas series, which the Milwaukee Brewers ultimately won 15-14 in 12 innings. In that game, Springs received a no-decision after allowing five runs on eight hits across five innings. Today marks two months since the A’s southpaw last earned a win, a streak he hopes to snap in this series finale. A big reason why Springs has not pitched well lately is because he has struggled limiting home runs. The ball is likely to carry in the extreme heat, creating an additional challenge for A’s and Rockies pitchers. Springs will need to be efficient and precise to avoid another short, less-than-ideal outing. Even if he pitches well, the A’s may be reluctant to let him work deep into the game given the oppressive temperatures and the associated health concerns.Keeping that in mind, the A’s made a roster-move this morning to add a fresh arm to their bullpen. Joey Estes was serviceable as the starter yesterday, but failed to complete five innings. He was optioned back to Triple-A, with left-handed reliever Brady Basso recalled as the corresponding roster move.We have made the following roster moves. pic.twitter.com/XvoKiqgkrh— Athletics (@Athletics) June 14, 2026Now onto the starting lineup. Here’s how manager Mark Kotsay decided to order things up as his team seeks its fifth straight win:Day baseball in LV ☀️ pic.twitter.com/3kbCFyqXdi— Athletics (@Athletics) June 14, 2026This lineup is certainly an interesting one. Center fielder Lawrence Butler is batting leadoff, a notable departure from the inconsistent hitter’s usual spot in the lower half of the order. Meanwhile, Nick Kurtz will serve as the designated hitter, getting a break from defensive duties. Veteran infielder Jeff McNeil will man first base instead. Butler and McNeil are not the only Athletics making their first starts of this series. Carlos Cortes will also make his first start, playing right field and batting fourth. Today’s A’s lineup is without starting catcher Shea Langeliers and shortstop Jacob Wilson. Langeliers gets the day off following two straight days behind the plate, while Wilson is not starting because he needs a rest day after recently returning from a stint on the injured list with a shoulder injury.Ninth-place hitter Alika Williams, starting at shortstop, has been an unexpected contributor. He accumulated three hits and a walk last night in his best offensive game as a major leaguer. The A’s will need the likes of McNeil, Williams and Butler to get on base and create RBI opportunities for Kurtz, left fielder Tyler Soderstrom and hot-hitting second baseman Zack Gelof. Those bats will be facing Rockies’ right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano. The 36-year-old Japanese native is 6-4 with a 4.08 ERA and 39 strikeouts over his first 13 starts, spanning 68 1/3 innings with the Rockies. He has won his past two starts, most recently limiting the Chicago Cubs to three runs on six hits over five innings pitched. Sugano has allowed 12 home runs, while Springs has given up 16, setting up a series finale that could feature plenty of power at the plate. And the Rockies’ lineup for game three looks like this:Freeman's back! pic.twitter.com/bXLc77tbUr— Colorado Rockies (@Rockies) June 14, 2026Springs has only faced one of Colorado’s starting nine before, so that could give the A’s starter the initial advantage in this matchup. Rockies’ shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, who sat out the previous two games, returns to his team’s lineup this afternoon. The visitors’ lineup is not as intimidating as some others the Athletics have faced this season, yet the Rockies have shown an ability to score in bunches through the first two games of this interleague series.Should the A’s finish off the league-worst Rockies, they would conclude their Las Vegas residency with a 5-1 record, and more importantly, return to West Sacramento one game over .500. Let’s go A’s!Follow the Game:Watch:Athletics – NBCSCAListen:Athletics – Talk 650 KSTE, A’s Cast

Gio Reyna Was Never Easy to Measure
June 12, 2026; Inglewood, California, U.S.; Giovanni Reyna of the U.S. celebrates scoring their fourth goal with Tyler Adams. Some players arrive at a World Cup because their performances make the decision impossible.Their names are written onto the roster months before the tournament begins, secured through goals, assists, minutes played, trophies won and all the measurable markers modern football has become increasingly obsessed with. Others are included for reasons that exist beyond the stat sheet, their leadership and legacy tested time and again by history, proven in moments that only seasoned players learn how to survive. Coaches announce their selections, supporters nod in agreement and nobody feels particularly compelled to argue. Then there are players like Gio Reyna, who fit nowhere, in no category, not neatly into any box of statistics or qualifications. When Mauricio Pochettino unveiled his 26-man roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, few decisions generated more debate than the inclusion of the Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder. Reyna had started just four Bundesliga matches all season. He had not started a league game since December. Since the beginning of the calendar year, he had logged only 137 league minutes for his club, a statistic that looked even more startling when placed alongside a United States player pool deeper than any in the nation’s history. On paper, the decision seemed difficult to justify.Mauricio Pochettino never appeared interested in the paper. That distinction matters.Because for much of the past four years, American soccer has been attempting to decide who or what Gio Reyna is. A cautionary tale. A squandered opportunity. An injury-riddled prospect who never quite became the player many imagined he would. A talented footballer forever tethered to the controversy that engulfed the United States men’s national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.Pochettino saw something else.He saw a player whose gifts remained rare enough to matter.“I think we all know Gio have an amazing talent and experience, too,” Pochettino said when explaining the decision to bring Reyna to the World Cup, despite the midfielder’s lack of playing time in Germany. Later, he would describe him as a player who could “add different things to the team” and someone he trusted. Those words surfaced repeatedly whenever the Argentine discussed Reyna. Talent. Quality. Trust. Difference.Different may be the most important word of all.Because Gio Reyna has never fit comfortably into football’s standard methods of evaluation. There are players whose contributions reveal themselves through numbers. There are others whose value lives in the spaces between them. Reyna belongs firmly in the second category.Years ago, he was viewed as the brightest jewel of American soccer’s so-called golden generation, the son of former U.S. internationals Claudio and Danielle Reyna and a teenager whose technical ability often seemed years ahead of his age. He could receive the ball under pressure and somehow create space where none appeared to exist. He could manipulate defenders with a touch, slow a match down with a glance and unlock entire defensive structures with a pass that seemed obvious only after he had already played it.Those qualities cannot really be taught. Vision rarely can. What followed, however, was not the career trajectory many expected.Injuries interrupted momentum. Opportunities disappeared. Borussia Dortmund never fully became the launching pad many imagined. A loan spell at Nottingham Forest failed to establish him in England. Even a move to Borussia Mönchengladbach, intended to provide a fresh start, produced more frustration than breakthrough moments.Meanwhile, Qatar lingered. The 2022 World Cup should have been remembered as Gio Reyna’s arrival on the global stage. Instead, it became the tournament that nearly consumed him.Reyna entered the competition surrounded by expectations and left it surrounded by controversy. He played sparingly under Gregg Berhalter. Reports emerged regarding his reaction to limited minutes. Berhalter later revealed he had considered sending a player home during the tournament, comments widely understood to refer to Reyna. What followed became one of the strangest and most public episodes in modern U.S. Soccer history, eventually involving both families and stretching far beyond the football itself. For a time, it seemed possible that the entire saga would define him. Instead, it may have matured him. What stood out after Pochettino named his World Cup squad was not a player demanding validation. It was a player sounding grateful.“This time around, I’m just willing to do whatever it takes,” Reyna said. “Whatever’s called for by me, I’ll be willing to help.”Notice what he did not say.He did not speak about proving critics wrong. He did not talk about revenge. He did not frame his selection as vindication. The 23-year-old sounded less interested in rewriting the past than contributing to the present. That difference may explain why Pochettino trusted him.Not because this was some sweeping judgment of character. Not because Reyna had suddenly been rebranded as the corrected version of himself. Not because the noise around him had vanished.Rather, because Pochettino appeared capable of placing the player inside a different container.A footballing one.For the Argentine manager, the question was not whether Reyna had become the perfect symbol of maturity, redemption or American soccer’s complicated relationship with its own expectations. The question was simpler, and perhaps more useful: What can this player do on the pitch that others cannot?“For the last roster before the World Cup, I think it’s good to see players who maybe are not playing too much, like in that case about Gio,” Pochettino explained in March. “He is a very talented player, and we know how he can add to the national team.”That final phrase may be the most revealing. Not what Gio has done. What Gio can contribute.Pochettino was not selecting a résumé. He was selecting a solution.Because football matches, particularly at World Cups, are not always won by the players who accumulate the most minutes throughout a club season. Sometimes they are changed by a single pass, a moment of vision, an unexpected piece of creativity that shifts the geometry of a match before anyone else realizes it has shifted. Those moments are difficult to measure. They are even more difficult to replace. This moment between USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino and Gio Reyna at full time after the win against Paraguay 🥹❤️🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/kYdhU0wsmP— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) June 13, 2026Pochettino had already seen them during the November international window, when Reyna scored against Paraguay and assisted against Uruguay, performances that prompted the manager to describe him as “fantastic” and a “special situation.”“Gio was fantastic in November with us,” Pochettino said. “I think everyone praised him in his game against Paraguay, and then the way he was involved and committed with the national team. I was really happy in all the aspects, the factors, in which he was involved.”Teammates noticed it too. Against Paraguay, Reyna “looked great, probably one of his best performances,” Tim Ream said, praising the way the midfielder found pockets of space, connected attacks and turned in areas where most players would simply recycle possession. Those qualities rarely appear in a stat sheet.Coaches notice them anyway. That may be why Pochettino repeatedly returned to the same idea whenever he discussed Reyna. Not that he was exempt from scrutiny. Not that he was guaranteed a place. Not that his club form did not matter. But that he was different. And players like him rarely fit neatly inside football’s standard methods of evaluation. They create moments before other players see them. And sometimes that is enough. Then came SoFi Stadium and Paraguay again, this time under the brighter lights of the World Cup.Then came the moment that made Pochettino look like a man who had seen something everyone else had missed.¡GOLAZO ESPECTACULAR DE ESTADOS UNIDOS! ¡GOLAZAZO!Giovanni Reyna firma una tremenda anotación de fuera del área sobre Paraguay, ¡4-1!¡Una de las mejores actuaciones de los estadounidenses en Mundiales! pic.twitter.com/c5Tqljjqpu— Telemundo Deportes (@TelemundoSports) June 13, 2026When Reyna entered the match late, the United States already had control of the result, but World Cup moments are rarely remembered only because of the scoreline. They are remembered because they reveal something. They crystallize an argument. They take all the abstract talk about talent, trust and possibility and turn it into something visible. The United States moved the ball patiently, with every player involved in the build-up, before Reyna received a short pass near the right side of the penalty area. Nothing about the situation seemed particularly dangerous. Paraguay’s defense was set. The angle was tight. Safer options existed.Reyna ignored them all. With his first touch, he nudged the ball into space. With his second, he stepped toward the box. With his third, he opened his body just enough to strike the ball with the outside of his right foot, sending it curling away from the goalkeeper and toward the far corner of the net.For a moment, SoFi Stadium seemed suspended somewhere between disbelief and celebration, thousands of fans watching the ball bend through the California night before finally settling inside the side netting. It was not simply a goal.It was the type of goal that explains why coaches continue selecting players even when their club minutes disappear. The type of goal that reminds everyone that football is not always a meritocracy built exclusively on statistics and recent form.Sometimes it is a game decided by imagination.Because while most players would have seen a crowded penalty area and limited options, Reyna saw a possibility. That is what has always separated him.Not speed. Not strength. Vision. The ability to identify solutions before the rest of the field realizes a problem exists. The celebration that followed revealed something else. Reyna first covered his ears, later saying it was “just something between me and my friends,” though the imagery was hard to separate from the noise that has followed him for years. Then he tucked the ball beneath his shirt and sucked his thumb, revealing afterward that he and his wife, Chloe, are expecting their first child. For months, he had known. For months, he had waited. “I was waiting for the perfect time,” Reyna said afterward. “And this sort of felt like it.” It is difficult to blame him.Stay focused, trust yourself, and keep pushing forward. Challenges make us stronger, and together we will overcome them. I believe in this team.🏆❤️🇺🇸⚽ pic.twitter.com/TqHCNWfa2f— Gio Reyna (@GioAReyna10) June 13, 2026For years, American soccer had discussed Gio Reyna almost exclusively through the lens of potential, controversy, injuries and expectations. Yet in a matter of seconds, the conversation shifted.Just as striking as the goal itself was what happened afterward. As teammates rushed toward the corner flag, Reyna disappeared beneath a pile of red, white and blue jerseys, swallowed by embraces from players who understood the significance of the moment long before the rest of the stadium had fully processed it. Four years earlier, his World Cup story had unfolded largely on the margins, defined by uncertainty, frustration and questions about his place within the group. This one looked different. Not because the past had been erased. But because the image told its own story.A player once discussed as an outsider now stood at the center of the celebration. The gifted teenager who arrived in Qatar carrying the weight of an entire generation had become a husband, soon-to-be father and World Cup goalscorer.Perhaps that is why the entire scene felt bigger than football. While supporters debated his form, his playing time and his place on the roster, life had continued unfolding away from the spotlight. The prodigy was becoming a father. The player once defined by potential was now speaking the language of responsibility. And standing on the touchline, watching it unfold, was the coach who trusted him enough to bring him there in the first place.Maybe that is the lesson hidden beneath Mauricio Pochettino’s faith.Gio Reyna did not make this World Cup because he suddenly transformed into a different footballer. He made it because Pochettino never stopped seeing the footballer he already was.A rare talent. An imperfect player. A complicated story. A human whose ability on the ball spoke louder than the noise around his life. And when the moment arrived, he became exactly the kind of player capable of producing something no statistic could have predicted.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter calls Kyle Hamilton a one-of-one talent
Few players in the NFL can do what Kyle Hamilton does. At least that's how Jesse Minter sees it. The Ravens coach has spent the offseason learning how best to utilize one of football's most versatile defenders, and his admiration for Hamilton was impossible to miss during minicamp. When asked about the All-Pro safety, Minter didn't hesitate."Kyle [Hamilton] is incredible."He went even further moments later."He's a one-of-one player in this league."What makes Hamilton special isn't just his athletic ability."He's extremely smart. He's extremely cerebral. He wants to understand why we're doing things."Minter believes Hamilton could excel virtually anywhere on the field."You could put him in one spot, and he could be the best in the league; put him in another spot, and he could be the best in the league."That's a rare company. And it's one reason the Ravens expect Hamilton to remain a centerpiece of the defense for years to come. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Ravens coach Jesse Minter praises Kyle Hamilton

Angel Perez then closed things down with a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fifth save.In game two, the game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Anthony Martinez walked it off with a solo shot. Martinez went 2-for-3 in the game. Jonathan Martinez also had a strong game, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and Luis De La Cruz doubled and stole a base. Will McCausland was fantastic in game two, tossing 6.0 scoreless innings of four-hit ball with three strikeouts and two walks. Keegan Zinn finished off the game with a scoreless seventh inning.ACL Guardians 9, ACL White Sox 6Guardians improve to 21-12The ACL Guardians are on fire, led by Venezuelan catcher Reiner Herrera. He had the game of his life on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a whopping three home runs and a double. He has been a revelation this season, blasting off for 11 home runs already in 31 games and currently is slashing a ridiculous .330/.485/.740 as a 20-year-old in the ACL.Estivel Morillo also had a great game, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base while Delmagro went 2-for-4 and Carlos Garces went 1-for-3 with a walk and two steals.A rehabbing Yorman Gomez allowed three runs on four hits in 3.2 innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Trevor Stephan allowed a solo home run with two strikeouts in 1.1 frames.

Curaçao scores a goal in its first World Cup game, but Germany still gets a blowout win
Curaçao got a goal in its first World Cup game. And that was the only highlight for the smallest nation in the tournament.Germany sped past Curaçao 7-1 on Sunday in Houston as Group E opened play. The Germans were massive favorites ahead of the game and the final score reflected it. But Curacao at least had a moment of hope early on.After Germany went up 1-0 on an early Felix Nmecha goal, Curacao scored its first-ever World Cup goal on just its second shot of the game when Luciano Comenencia's shot deflected past Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. It was a sharp counter-attack after Germany dominated the opening stages of the game. Yes, Germany's defending was poor to not get the ball out of the box. But Curaçao adeptly took advantage. That hope of stealing a point — or even all three points — lasted less than 20 minutes before German defender Nico Schlotterbeck headed home a cross to restore the Germans' lead. The lead was two just before halftime when Nmecha was tripped inside the Curacao penalty box. The obvious foul received little protestation from Curacao's players, and Kai Havertz converted the penalty. From there, the second half was a formality. Especially after Jamal Musiala scored less than two minutes after halftime as the Germans added three more in the second half to turn what was setting up to be a comfortable win into an absolute rout.Even though the win was largely expected, it's a big step for Germany in its quest to get out of the group stages of the World Cup for the first time since winning the tournament in 2014. The victory is just the third for Germany in its last seven World Cup games. They'll be assured of moving onto the knockout rounds of the expanded tournament with a win over either Cote d'Ivoire or Ecuador.Curaçao, meanwhile, still remain's the group's massive underdogs and goal differential is now against it as well. Simply put, Curaçao needs improbable wins against the other two teams in the group to get to the Round of 32.

Royals place 1B Vinnie Pasquantino on IL with fractured hamate in right hand
Vinnie Pasquantino became the second AL Central slugger to suffer a fractured hamate bone in his right hand on Saturday. The Kansas City Royals first baseman left Saturday’s 8-7 loss to the Houston Astros in the fifth inning after popping out to third base. Following the popout, Pasquantino appeared to be in obvious pain as he returned to the dugout. He soon went into the dugout tunnel toward the clubhouse without being checked by a trainer. The team announced that he would not return after suffering a right hand/hamate injury. The injury occurred on the same day that Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez sustained a fractured hamate in his left hand. Pasquantino was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, but he will likely miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery. New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll and Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday each sustained similar injuries during spring training and took at least a month to return to the lineup. Carroll required about a month to recover, while Holliday took longer.Pasquantino has a .224/.309/.350 slash average with 6 home runs, 10 doubles and 32 RBI. After poor production in April (.165 average, .595 OPS), the five-year veteran was improving in June with a .298/.365/.426 line. Jac Caglianone took over at first base after Pasquantino left Saturday’s game and he’s getting the start at that position on Sunday. He played 10 games there as a rookie last season and five so far this year. Caglianone was primarily a first baseman in college, playing 85 games at first in two seasons at Florida. Cole Ragans suffer setback in return from injuryLeft-hander Cole Ragans appeared to be on course to return to the Royals’ rotation soon. But he suffered a setback in his recovery from left elbow impingement after throwing a bullpen session. It’s the second time Ragans hasn’t recovered well following an outing during his rehab assignment. Following a rehab start on May 23, his left elbow didn’t feel right and he didn’t throw until this past Wednesday. Ragans has been on the IL since May 7.The Royals put pitcher Seth Lugo on the 7-day concussion IL earlier this week after he took a line drive to the head in Wednesday’s 6-4 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Real Madrid open to offers for three stars after €50m verbal agreement for Chelsea ace
Real Madrid open to offers for three stars after €50m verbal agreement for Chelsea aceChelsea left-back Marc Cucurella is on the verge of becoming a Real Madrid player. The deal is understood to be all but agreed, with only the final paperwork still outstanding. While nothing has been officially signed, discussions between the parties are at an advanced stage and there is growing confidence that the transfer will soon be completed.Changes expected at left-backThe potential arrival of Cucurella could trigger a reshuffle within Real Madrid’s options at left-back, reports AS.The proposed agreement would see Real Madrid pay around €50 million for the Spanish left-back, who is expected to sign a four-year contract.Carreras faces competition from Cucurella. (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)With his arrival, Real Madrid are now understood to be open to offers for their three current left-backs – Alvaro Carreras, Ferland Mendy, and Fran Garcia.Carreras likely safeAs per the report, Mourinho wants Cucurella and Carreras to compete for the left-back position, a scenario that places the futures of Mendy and Garcia under serious scrutiny. Both players are now viewed as potential departures, while Carreras remains highly valued despite speculation surrounding his own future. The former Benfica starlet is still highly regarded by Mourinho, although the club would listen to exceptional offers for him. What about Mendy and Garcia? As far as Mendy is concerned, Real Madrid acknowledge that he remains difficult to sell due to his current injury situation, with expectations that he will not return until around November.Fran Garcia likely to leave. (Photo by Florencia Tan Jun/Getty Images)Therefore, Garcia’s future appears the most uncertain, especially with his contract running until 2027 and no renewal talks currently progressing. The Spanish defender had already come close to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in January, when AFC Bournemouth were pushing to sign him, only for Florentino Perez to block the operation. However, with now Cucurella also set to join to further increase competition at left-back, the former Rayo Vallecano defender is expected to bid goodbye to Los Blancos. As for Mendy, a call regarding his future will only be made in 2027, considering that he is unlikely to return to action until later this year.

'The new Emma' - positives Raducanu can take from Queen's to Wimbledon
For the first time this week, Emma Raducanu sat on her chair and looked forlorn. The British number one had finally succumbed to Croatia's Donna Vekic in a slow-burning Queen's final, unable to save a fifth Championship point and continue a match which she had admirably stoked into a scrap. The 23-year-old has undoubtedly enjoyed a productive week at the quaint club nestled in the Victorian terraces of west London. But missing out on a first WTA Tour title - and a first trophy since that unforgettable US Open victory in 2021 - still hurt."Right now it obviously really stings, so I'm just going to try and let myself feel it today - but try and get over it pretty quick," Raducanu said. With Wimbledon around the corner, BBC Sport looks at the positives Raducanu can take from her encouraging start to the grass-court season.Raducanu loses Queen's final as trophy wait continuesPlaying with freedom on a surface that suits her gameWhen Raducanu dissected her French Open first-round exit just three weeks ago in Paris, things looked much bleaker.Skipping the entire clay-court season had been a viable option, considering she had only played four matches in the previous three months because of a viral illness and its after-effects.Instead, Raducanu felt the hours spent on the clay courts - getting time in her legs - would pay dividends when she returned to Britain for the grass season. Crucially, it meant she did not have to make a standing start under the guidance of Andrew Richardson, the coach who helped Raducanu win the US Open and has been reappointed until the end of the season.Raducanu has long been searching for freedom on the court, playing with a looseness which allows her natural game to flourish.Over the past week at Queen's, Raducanu has found what she is looking for.Raducanu reached the final without dropping a set and, while she ultimately came up short against Vekic, there was clear evidence of how the grass courts suit her. Firstly, Raducanu's movement on the surface is natural and confident - unlike many of her peers who are brought up playing on clay and hard courts.Secondly, the ball's tendency to have a lower, skiddier bounce on grass means Raducanu's serve and groundstrokes have more punch."I think I'm playing pretty freely, pretty aggressively, but finding the right balance," she said."I've been returning well, serving pretty well. It's important on grass."Another familiar face - and playing with a smileRehiring Richardson looks to have been a masterstroke.Under his tuition she has played four tournaments - including the 2021 US Open and this year's Queen's - and won 14 of her 17 matches.Richardson is an old-school coach who brings volume to create good habits - basically, hitting plenty of balls and putting in the hard yards.Known as a 'gentle giant', Raducanu says Richardson also has a fiery side that ignites the competitive spark in her.His messaging can sometimes be sparse, but the targeted input has an impact with a player who likes to be challenged by her coaches.During the second set against Vekic, Richardson could be heard telling Raducanu to drive returns up the middle of the court - to drag her opponent into the longer duels that she did not relish. It was a tactic which changed the complexion of the match."It's great to have him back. I think we have been working on this game style. The whole week I have been playing really, really good tennis and the brand of tennis that I really want to play," Raducanu said."I wouldn't say it's necessarily the old Emma. I think it's the new Emma."You take all the lessons and experience, all the different ups and downs, and you take everything. You understand a lot more what's going on and what works for you."Raducanu has shown she plays better when surrounded by long-time confidants who she trusts implicitly. On home turf, with a swell of support from friends and fans, it has been striking how relaxed she has looked - and that has enabled her to play with the freedom she craves. That has also been evident at Wimbledon where, aside from her fairytale in New York, she has produced the best Slam results of her career.Emma Raducanu has reached two WTA finals this year, despite a stop-start season disrupted by illness [Getty Images]Showing a resilience which many questionedQuestions have often been asked about Raducanu's spirit. Has she got the heart for the fight? Is she resilient enough to come through tough situations? This week she has shown she does possess that vital ingredient for any elite player. The way she recovered in the second set against Vekic was another admirable example and a positive sign for the future - even though she ultimately faded."I managed to get myself back into the second set and I'm proud of how I fought," Raducanu said."That's not something that in the past years I have always done, so that's a positive."Raducanu cannot be accused of having an easy path to the Queen's final, either. She beat a pair of top-20 players in Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea and American teenager Iva Jovic on the way - and overcame an injury scare to win two matches on Saturday. But this is only the first stepAn injury-disrupted start, shoots of hope in the spring, a chastening clay swing, blooming on the British grass.Rinse and repeat. The past couple of years have broadly followed a similar pattern for Raducanu. This season has, so far, fit the mould. Now Raducanu has to break it.The next challenge is maintaining the level she has shown at Queen's - arguably her best tennis since that unfathomable US Open triumph - for a sustained stretch of time. The momentum she has generated in west London is a huge step in the right direction with Wimbledon, which starts in a fortnight, fast approaching.Since becoming a Grand Slam champion as a teenage qualifier, Raducanu has reached the second week of a major on just one other occasion - at Wimbledon two years ago.The Grand Slam tournaments remain the barometer for success - at least in the eyes of a wider audience - and another deep run in front of a supportive home crowd at the All England Club would further elevate Raducanu's reputation."Going into Wimbledon you want as many matches on grass as possible. This week was great. I played five matches on grass," said Raducanu, who now looks unlikely to play the WTA event in Nottingham which starts on Monday."It has to be a positive. You take things that work, take things that didn't work, and apply it to when I play next."How to follow the men's tournament at Queen's on the BBCLive scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone

“Crybully”: Republicans share how they really feel about Nancy Mace after her primary loss
Notorious transphobe Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) lost in her state’s Republican gubernatorial primary earlier this week, coming in 5th place as Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson advanced to a runoff. And now, Republicans who worked closely with her are speaking out about why she is unfit to lead. Mace’s behavior became increasingly erratic over the past year and a half, seemingly fueled by the election of Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) as the first out trans person in Congress. Mace made lashing out at McBride (and the trans community at large) her entire persona, which sparked a series of incidents in which Mace claimed to be a victim of progressive backlash. Related Sarah McBride gets last laugh as Nancy Mace loses gubernatorial primary: “Happy Pride, Nancy!” Mace also exhibited erratic behavior in committee hearings and during public interactions with constituents. Former House speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told the Washington Post he watched as her “political and personal life unraveled” over the past few years. “The only thing I hope is she gets the help she needs.” “I helped her win. But I just watched her change along the way,” McCarthy continued. “Some people warned when she was an early candidate, ‘Watch out, she’s not all there.’ I didn’t.” Your LGBTQ+ guide to Elections Stay ahead of the election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today When McBride became the first out trans person elected to Congress, Mace got her banned from women’s restrooms. She centered her gubernatorial campaign around dismantling trans rights and has relentlessly bullied McBride since the two became colleagues in the House. The self-described “proud transphobe” has lobbed transphobic slurs at a student, shouted these slurs during a speech and a House committee meeting, publicly bullied a trans influencer, was booed when discussing a trans activist’s genitals at a public talk, targeted two universities in her state for offering more than two gender options on certain student forms, referred to McBride as “it” and “a man” in a TV news appearance, and called trans people “mentally ill” (even though trans identity isn’t considered a mental illness by any major medical or psychological association). Mace’s former communications director, Will Hampson, called Mace “her own best weapon and own worst enemy.” “I don’t think Nancy Mace has ever seen a bridge in her life that she hasn’t burned down,” he said. Justin Evans, a veteran GOP operative in South Carolina, said Mace simply didn’t have the ethics to succeed in the end. “I don’t know of anybody who puts their finger in the wind and tries to see which way it’s blowing more than Nancy Mace,” Evans said. “She was a good-looking, talented communicator, had the social media following, had all the ingredients that a successful candidate should have. It’s just her moral compass was completely missing.” Dorchester County Republican Party Chair C.J. Westfall, who worked on Mace’s 2022 reelection campaign, said Republicans seemed to like her at first because she was an “independent voice.” But as time went on, Westfall said it was clear she was a “crybully” obsessed with “play[ing] the victim.” Last December, for example, Mace claimed foster youth advocate James McIntyre of Illinois injured her arm at an event for the Foster Youth Caucus, of which Mace is a co-chair. “I was physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man,” Mace wrote on X, inexplicably starring out the word trans. “One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO. #HoldTheLine.” The charges allege that McIntyre “took her hand with both of his hands and shook her arm up and down in an exaggerated, aggressive hand-shaking motion.” Three eyewitnesses, however, accused Mace of manufacturing the assault, saying Mace and McIntyre, who pleaded not guilty, shared nothing more than a standard handshake while he asked the Congresswoman to protect trans rights. In April, federal prosecutors dropped the charges against McIntyre. Also in April, Mace posted a video of herself saying, “F**k you” to one of her constituents while shopping at an Ulta makeup store after he asked her if she was holding any town halls this year. She assumed that the man was gay and part of the “left,” even though he neither mentioned his sexuality nor political affiliation during their interaction. Despite the fact that he merely asked her a question, she posted that an “unhinged lunatic… got in my face today.” Some unhinged lunatic, a man, wearing daisy dukes, at a makeup store, got in my face today. Dems are nuts. So I went off – and I won’t be backing down.I hold the line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Try me. pic.twitter.com/Uv181Ovys0— Nancy Mace (@NancyMace) April 19, 2025 In December, she blamed transgender people for her public meltdown that occurred at the Charleston International Airport on October 30. A police report said Mace turned a minor security miscommunication into a swear-filled “spectacle” that left airport employees visibly upset. Mace accused the police of lying about the incident. When asked what happened by Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo, Mace replied, “We have to take our security very seriously. If you’re conservative, if you’re well known, if you have fought the transgender community like I have, exponentially — in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s public assassination — the death threats, the amount of political violence, the celebration of the killing of conservatives, is deeply disturbing.” A police report of the incident said that Mace called police “f**king idiots” and “f**king incompetent”; proclaimed that she is a “f**king representative”; and told a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) supervisor, ‘I’m sick of your s**t…. You guys are always f**king late and this is f**king ridiculous.” Mace accused the TSA and Charleston International Airport security (CHS) workers of conspiring against her in “a disturbing abuse of power and a clear case of political retaliation.” She claimed that her selection for additional airport security screening was “the stuff of the DEEP STATE and BIG BROTHER,” and claimed that her lawsuit against the airport “may bring South Carolina’s Attorney General down in flames with it, and several others.” This is the stuff of the DEEP STATE and BIG BROTHER. https://t.co/i8tjfTL7RO— Nancy Mace (@NancyMace) November 12, 2025 Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

WORLD CUP PLAYER RATINGS | Germany 7-1 Curaçao – Germany open their World Cup campaign with a comfortable win against debutants Curaçao
WORLD CUP PLAYER RATINGS | Germany 7-1 Curaçao – Germany open their World Cup campaign with a comfortable win against debutants CuraçaoGermany kicked off their World Cup campaign with a game against tournament debutants and minnows Curaçao in Houston, as they look to begin their tournament with a much-needed win, and a first win in their group opener since 2014, when they beat Portugal 4-0.The game started as you would expect, with Germany’s dominance translating into several chances, and they were able to break down the Caribbean side’s defence pretty quickly when a layoff from Florian Wirtz was curled in by Felix Nmecha to make it 1-0. However, it was clear that some of the German players were getting pretty excited about the chance to score, and this meant they were flooding forward and leaving plenty of room for Curaçao. Dick Advocaat’s side then did the unthinkable and equalised through Livano Comenencia to make it 1-1. The midfielder’s goal came from a Curaçao counter, where the ball then deflected into his path, and his shot easily beat Manuel Neuer.Germany then upped the ante, but Curaçao were able to hold strong until a corner was won when a Kai Havertz shot was deflected out by former Wolfsburg player Riechedly Bazoer. The corner would then be headed in by Nico Schlotterbeck to give Julian Nagelsmann’s side the lead once again, on top of it being his first goal for Germany.Just before the break, Havertz would then give the four-time winners a comfortable lead when he converted a penalty after Bazoer fouled Nmecha in the box. After the half-time interval, Jamal Musiala would get on the score sheet when he coolly slotted past the Curacao keeper after he was played in by Joshua Kimmich. Germany could have made it 5-1 when a long Jonathan Tah ball was brought down by Leroy Sané, but the winger, 1v1, through on goal, missed. After providing an assist for Schlotterbeck’s first goal of his Germany career, Brown would then score his first goal to, this time, make it 5-1, following a layoff from Deniz Undav. The Stuttgart striker would then turn scorer when he turned in a Kimmich cut back from close range to make it 6-1. Havertz would then get his second of the game, as he would link up with Undav, who played him through, and the Arsenal forward chipped the keeper to make it 7-1.The win will give Germany much-needed momentum, as this was the first time they have won a World Cup group opener since the 2014 World Cup, which they would go on to win. What this game did show, is this team probably still needs some honing, mainly in the attack, and mainly with Sané being in the squad, Julian Nagelsmann has been a fierce defender of the winger, but even today showed that there a better options of the bench, such as Undav, who combined well with Havertz when he was subbed on in the 64th minute.Germany’s next game is on June 20th against the Ivory Coast in Toronto, a game which will not be as one-sided. PLAYER RATINGS:Germany:Manuel Neuer (5), Joshua Kimmich (7), Jonathan Tah (6), Nico Schlotterbeck (6), Nathanial Brown (7), Aleksandar Pavlovic (6), Felix Nmecha (7), Leroy Sané (4), Jamal Musiala (6), Florian Wirtz (6), Kai Havertz (6)Others: Deniz Undav (7), Antonio Rüdiger (5), Leon Goretzka (5), David Raum (5), Waldermar Anton (-)GGFN Man of the Match: Nathanial Brown (7)In his first-ever World Cup game, and only his fourth-ever start for the national team, Brown repaid the faith shown in him by Julian Nagelsmann. The 22-year-old first showed his dead-ball skills when his corner found the head of Schlotterbeck to give Germany the lead, while he then demonstrated his attacking ability when he found himself in the Curacao box to score Germany’s fifth goal of the evening. You can see why Bayern Munich are interested in spending neart €55m for him this summer. On top of this, all of this happens in America, the country where he holds nationality, too. Thus, Arsenal would have to make a convincing offer if they want to get him on board this off-season.TURIN, ITALY – MAY 17: Kenan Yildiz of Juventus FC evades challenge from Jack Harrison of ACF Fiorentina during the Serie A match between Juventus FC and ACF Fiorentina at Allianz Stadium on May 17, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Chris Ricco/Getty Images)Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Get Yildiz On Board This Summer?Yildiz can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goalsThe Turkish talent is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or as a striker if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Gunners manage to land him this summer. We can expect Yildiz to bring more goals and creativity to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta’s frontline. He is capable of fighting for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium next season. At 21, Yildiz has got a bright future ahead of him. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, Arteta would be wise to go all out to get him on board before the end of this transfer period.

91 days till Arizona Cardinals' opener: Remembering the 1991 season
We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Sunday, June 14, is 91 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers. With 91 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1991 season for the Cardinals.A look back at the 1991 season for the CardinalsThe 1991 season was a disaster. After quarterback Timm Rosenbach looked promising in 1990, he injured his knee in training camp and missed the entire season. That led to a trio of quarterbacks — Tom Tupa, Stan Gelbaugh and Chris Chandler — starting for the Cardinals. They finished 4-12 on the season and had the second-lowest scoring offense in the league, averaging 12.3 points per game. They were 22nd in scoring defense, allowing 21.5 points per game. They started the season 2-0 but ended up losing their last eight games. They scored 10 or fewer points eight times. They had two Pro Bowlers — punter Rich Camarillo and safety Tim McDonald. 1991 offensive leadersTupa started 11 games at quarterback. He went 4-7 and completed 52.4% of his passes for 2,053 yards, six touchdowns and 13 interceptions. His best game was a 312-yards, 3-touchdown game against the New England Patriots, a 24-10 win. Johnny Johnson led the team in rushing with 666 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Ernie Jones was the team's leading receiver, catching 61 passes for 957 yards and four touchdowns. Ricky Proehl had 55 catches for 766 yards, and Randall Hill had 43 catches for 495 yards. 1991 defensive leadersLinebacker Eric Hill led the team with 108 tackles. McDonald made the Pro Bowl with 96 tackles and five interceptions. Cornerback Aeneas Williams was a rookie in 1991 and picked off six passes. Ken Harvey led the team with nine sacks. Freddie Joe Nunn had seven and Eric Swann had four. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Brandon Aiyuk posts a new video, hinting that he may soon be released
Two days after deleting a pair of Instagram videos that criticized the 49ers for not releasing him, receiver Brandon Aiyuk is back on social media. In his new video, he's dancing. While wearing a robe and boxer shorts. The caption says "coming to a endzone near [you]."Combined with his decision to extend an olive branch by deleting the videos, it's hard not to wonder whether the 49ers have decided to abandon the effort to trade Aiyuk and to cut the cord in the coming days. That would avoid the awkward dance of Aiyuk showing up to training camp and forcing his release. The 49ers have proven their point. By refusing to release Aiyuk and holding out hope for a trade, they've wiped out his ability to get up to speed through his new team's offseason program. At some point, rubbing Aiyuk's nose in it takes the team's eye off the bigger prize. They need to just fold the tents, like they did when they admitted their mistake with quarterback Trey Lance. Focus on the positives, move on from the negatives. And ensure that Aiyuk won't be one of the hot topics when the team gathers for practices in the electromagnetic hot zone.

UCLA basketball offers four-star 2027 guard Micah Gordon
It’s been a quiet offseason for UCLA Bruins men’s basketball recruiting. Mick Cronin and the Bruins brought in two freshmen for the upcoming 2026-2027 season, but have yet to earn any commitments for their 2027 class. On Saturday, 2027 guard Micah Gordon announced on Twitter that he had received an offer from UCLA. Gordon is the No. 12 point guard in the class according to 247 Sports and is a four-star recruit.Blessed to receive an offer from UCLA pic.twitter.com/e6TrdRpahF— Micah Gordon (@MicahGg1) June 13, 2026Gordon is from Plainfield, New Jersey and stands at just 5’10” but he’s already received offers from Auburn, Georgetown and Maryland. The guard attends Plainfield High School, helping lead the Cardinals to a 27-4 record as a junior. If UCLA were to be able to land Gordon, it’d give the Bruins a Top-50 recruit to begin their class. UCLA has a few young guards on their roster already with Trent Perry, Eric Freeny and Jaylen Petty but Gordon would be a welcome addition to a Bruin team that has underperformed since joining the Big Ten Conference.Since leaving the Pac-12, UCLA hasn’t competed atop the Big Ten and have been bounced in the second round of the NCAA tournament in each of the past two seasons. It won’t be easy for the Bruins to land Gordon over other East Coast schools but it’d be a big get for Cronin. UCLA hasn’t had a Top-30 recruiting class since 2023, where the Bruins added seven recruits including Aday Mara, Sebastian Mack and Brandon Williams. This article originally appeared on UCLA Wire: UCLA Bruins gives four-star 2027 guard Micah Gordon an offer

Red Sox get good trade deadline news on Aroldis Chapman for odd reason
Red Sox get good trade deadline news on Aroldis Chapman for odd reason originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox are having a brutal 2026 season, and the club is very likely to be trade deadline sellers this summer if things don't drastically improve, which doesn't seem likely. With the Red Sox as likely sellers, someone like Aroldis Chapman is sure to draw plenty of trade interest and be at the center of trade rumors this summer. A recent update corroborated that notion.According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox got some good news on Chapman's trade value this summer thanks to an odd reason: his lack of outings in the last 26 days.Red Sox get good news on Aroldis Chapman trade value"Well, the good news for the Boston Red Sox' struggles is that closer Aroldis Chapman's trade value has gone up," Nightengale writes. "... Chapman, who has converted all 13 of his save opportunities with a 0.46 ERA, has pitched just twice in the last 26 days, going back to May 18, and has pitched only 19.2 innings this entire season."While there are going to be plenty of pitchers around MLB who've pitched more than Chapman, the less wear-and-tear of Chapman should be a little appealing to clubs around MLB.He's not pitched much this season, and it's not even due to a stint on the injured list. The Red Sox just haven't had many chances to use him, and they aren't using him in every opportunity possible.MORE: Roman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxSending Chapman to a World Series contender would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox this summer, as they're likely going to receive a fairly strong return in such a deal. His 0.46 ERA and limited wear and tear are appealing aspects of Chapman's game this season that could make him the most sought-after reliever trade target this summer. As Nightengale notes, "There won't be a single reliever traded at the deadline who will have a fresher arm."While the Red Sox getting an increased trade value for Chapman not pitching is a little odd, it makes sense, as clubs would be able to get a fresh Chapman for a World Series run this season, which might be more appealing than most other bullpen trade targets.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius

Germany hammer World Cup debutants Curacao after early scare
Kai Havertz scored twice as Germany thrashed World Cup debutants Curacao 7-1 (RONALDO SCHEMIDT)Germany won their first opening match at a World Cup since lifting the trophy in 2014 as they eased to a 7-1 win against debutants Curacao in their opening Group E match in Houston on Sunday. The Germans will face stiffer tests against group rivals Ecuador and Ivory Coast but the win against the tiny Caribbean nation puts them in a good position to progress to the knockout stages for the first time since 2014.An early German goal by Felix Nmecha was cancelled out by a deflected strike from Livano Comenencia which had the Curacao fans, known as the Blue Wave, out of their seats in Houston. However, Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz with a double, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav scored to put to bed any possibility of one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history.Germany settled early, Nmecha scoring a beauty in the sixth minute, receiving the ball from Florian Wirtz and curling the ball round a Curacao defender and past goalkeeper Eloy Room. The goal had coach Julian Nagelsmann letting out a huge roar. Nmecha, who like Musiala played for England at junior level before choosing Germany, went close minutes later with a rasping effort from outside the box.German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who at 40 is the oldest German player ever to appear at a World Cup and is playing in his fifth global tournament, had had little to do until Comenencia struck with a shot which took a deflection. While Germany's senior citizen shook his head ruefully, the oldest coach to ever appear at the finals, 78-year-old Dick Advocaat, was up out of his seat arms raised. The drinks break allowed the Germans to regroup.Soon after the restart Schlotterbeck's header was brilliantly turned over the bar by Room. The four-time world champions huffed and puffed round the Curacao goal, but time and again desperate defending frustrated their Germans. However, the Curacao defence cracked in the 38th minute when an unmarked Schlotterbeck headed home from a corner for his first goal for his country. The Germans went into the break with a two-goal advantage as Havertz stroked home a penalty after Nmecha had been brought down by Riechedly Bazoer.Germany struck 69 seconds into the second half, Musiala running on to Joshua Kimmich's pass and scoring from a tight angle. It should have been 5-1 just after the hour mark but Leroy Sane sent his effort wide with only Room to beat.Where Sane came up short Brown did not as the fullback fired home just before the second hydration break.Substitute Undav made it six with his seventh goal in his last seven international appearances.Havertz rounded it off with his 24th goal for Germany to replicate the same scoreline as they famously recorded against hosts Brazil in the 2014 semi-finals. pi/gj

Brad Keselowski Overcame a Broken Leg. Now He’s Facing a New Problem
When Brad Keselowski arrived at Daytona to begin the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, simply being on the grid felt like an accomplishment.Just weeks earlier, the RFK Racing co-owner had suffered a broken femur after slipping on ice while dropping his daughter off for a ski lesson. The injury required surgery and cast doubt on whether he would be ready for the Daytona 500.Instead, Keselowski fought his way back.He missed the preseason Clash but returned for NASCAR’s biggest race, turning what could have been a lost offseason into one of the sport’s most impressive comeback stories. And he didn’t just race, but he earned his team a fifth-place finish at “The Great American Race.”For much of the first half of the season, that story only got better. Then everything changed.Brad Keselowski’s season has unraveled in a matter of weeksJust a few weeks ago, Keselowski sat ninth in the standings and appeared comfortably on his way toward a Chase berth. Now he’s fighting just to stay above the postseason cut line. The change has been sudden and dramatic.Chris Knight noted Sunday that Keselowski is set to finish 30th or worse in five of his last seven NASCAR Cup Series races. For a driver who spent much of the season building momentum, it represents one of the sharpest downward trends in the garage.Four races can change everything in NASCAR.A month ago, Keselowski looked like one of the sport’s best comeback stories. Today, he’s fighting simply to keep a promising season from slipping away. What makes the slide particularly frustrating is that it hasn’t been driven by a lack of speed.Instead, the No. 6 team has repeatedly found itself caught up in accidents, damaged race cars, and disappointing finishes at the worst possible time of the year.Bob Pockrass pointed out Sunday that Keselowski did not record a DNF in his first 13 races of the season. Over the last three weeks, however, his races have ended early because of accidents. The recent stretch has wiped away much of the cushion he spent months building.Pocono delivered another setbackSunday’s race at Pocono Raceway only added to Keselowski’s growing concerns. An accident ended his day early and sent him tumbling further down the standings during a critical point in the regular season.By the end of the race, Keselowski had fallen to the postseason cut line in the live standings, a stunning position for a driver who looked secure only a few weeks ago.The downturn has also changed the outlook for RFK Racing. Not long ago, the organization appeared to have all three of its drivers comfortably positioned to reach the Chase. Now, every point matters as the regular season continues to wind down. The difficult part for Keselowski is that the season was supposed to be a story about perseverance. After recovering from a broken femur and making it back for Daytona, he spent months proving he could still compete at a high level despite the setback. For much of the spring, he did exactly that. Now, the challenge isn’t recovering from injury. It’s stopping a late-season spiral before it turns a remarkable comeback season into one of NASCAR’s biggest missed opportunities.

The Curacao moment that vindicated Fifa’s controversial World Cup revamp despite Germany thrashing
There will not be many 7-1 games at this World Cup and fewer still in which the one feels wholly more significant that the seven. But Germany have scored many World Cup goals before and they will score many more. Curacao’s goal, by contrast, was a moment that will forever be etched into the country’s story. The ball broke loose in the German penalty area and when it fell invitingly to right-back Livano Comenencia, stomachs tightened and eyes bulged. A stadium watched as Comenencia’s left-footed shot deflected off the underside of Germany captain Joshua Kimmich’s leg, into the ground and up over the outstretched hands of Manuel Neuer. Germany 1-1 Curacao, and Neuer’s first task in his fifth World Cup was to pick the ball out of the net.Curacaoan players rushed to the corner in a delirious bundle. Their 78-year-old coach, Dick Advocaat, stood on the touchline with his arms raised in the air like a triumphant gladiator. All around him there was bedlam, substitutes running, coaches falling, a swathe of blue fans behind the dugout embracing the nearest person and dancing with joy. There will come a time in this World Cup when the football takes over, when tactics and tension come to the fore, probably in the knockout stages when the real jeopardy kicks in. We will find out what Germany are really made of another day. But this group stage is about something else, about collective experience and shared memories. Everyone connected to the tiny Caribbean island of Curacao will remember where they were when Livano Comenencia scored that goal against Germany.Livano Comenencia fires home Curacao's goal (Reuters)Manuel Neuer is beaten in the Germany goal (AP)Curacao players celebrate their equaliser (AP)It is worth dispelling the notion that Curacao are World Cup minnows, in the original sense. All of their players came through the Dutch football system and the only Curacaoan squad member born on the island, Tahith Chong, left to join Feyenoord’s academy when he was 10. They are not a bunch of Caribbean plumbers and electricians but a professional group, many of whom have played in the Dutch Eredivisie. Comenencia trained in Juventus’s academy.Yet it can still be true that for an island of 150,000 people, almost half of whom could have fit inside this vast NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, it was an extraordinarily powerful thing. This is a country which became autonomous in 2010 after years of Dutch rule as part of the Netherlands Antilles. In generations past it had been a hub for the Dutch Atlantic slave trade. So when the Curacaoan journalist three seats down broke with all press box etiquette, leapt off his chair and bellowed “We did it!” on repeat, he was entitled to indulge in the moment. It had begun ominously for Curacao, who were behind after only six minutes. One of the pre-match debates in the German media was whether Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka would start despite a limited role for the German champions this season, or whether Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha might be preferred in midfield. Julian Nagelsmann chose Nmecha, and the former England youth international repaid the faith with an arcing finish into the far corner after a smart one-two with Florian Wirtz. But Curacao threatened with the occasional flurry on the break and their goal wasn’t entirely against the run of play. It was, perhaps, a vindication of Fifa’s inflated 48-team format to see a debut nation score against one of the great grandfathers of World Cup football, the four-time champions, against one the great modern goalkeepers no less. What was not an endorsement for Fifa’s approach to the tournament was the mid-half hydration breaks, powered by Powerade, which were taken immediately after Curacao’s goal. Curacao had momentum on the field and a raucous atmosphere off it, and all of that energy was sucked away, replaced by a Mariachi Band who came out onto a balcony and serenaded the crowd while adverts played on Fox Sports. It was a catchy jig, but the game felt flatter when it restarted three minutes later. Kai Havertz scored twice in the victory (Reuters)Germany would have taken charge anyway but from that point on, Curacao never regained a foothold. Nico Schlotterbeck nodded in a corner unmarked, and when Nmecha was felled in the box just before half-time, Kai Havertz slotted home the penalty despite the jeers of Curacao fans standing behind their goalkeeper Eloy Room.A couple of minutes into the second half, Kimmich slid a precise pass into the path of Jamal Musiala, who slotted the ball past Room. Germany’s best goal was their fifth, when substitute Deniz Undav flicked the ball into the air for left-back Nathaniel Brown to volley into the far corner. Undav added a sixth from close range and Havertz’s dinked finish for No 7 was delicious. It was Germany’s day. A sharp, confident Havertz will be essential to their progress and he looked hungry leading the line here. Yet perhaps Curacao, whose fans greeted their players like heroes at the full-time whistle, can take some encouragement from this heavy defeat on their World Cup debut. If they can score against Germany, they can score against anyone.

Dylan Harper’s Mom Has 3-Word Message As Spurs Rookie Season Ends With Standout Finals Showing
Dylan Harper's Mom Has 3-Word Message As Spurs Rookie Season Ends With Standout Finals Showing © Imagn ImagesOn Saturday, the San Antonio Spurs lost a heartbreaker 94-90 at home in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and were officially eliminated by the New York Knicks, who won the NBA Championship for the first time since 1973. Obviously, it’s tough not to be disappointed in the aftermath, especially when it felt like this team had the potential to go the championship distance. Several players really stepped up and stood out for the Spurs in these playoffs, including rookie Dylan Harper, who should be part of a bright future for the franchise.Harper, the star of the night, led them in scoring off the bench. He finished with 25 points, five rebounds, and four assists, along with one block in the loss. If the offense had been able to generate any momentum, Harper could have helped San Antonio pull off an unlikely win. Regardless of the loss, he ended the season on an impressive note.Following the game, one fan posted a message tagging Harper’s mom, Mariah Harper. The message included Game 5 stats along with the caption:“This is not normal for a rookie. Mom still proud of you, keep balling, bounce back.”The Spurs guard’s mom reshared the story on Instagram and replied in three words:“Mama always proud.”Harper, who was selected second overall in the 2025 draft, was an absolute force for a San Antonio team that reached the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.9 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 69 regular-season games. He took it up another level, averaging 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as a rookie in the playoffs. The youngster also had a special achievement, becoming the first rookie since Richard Dumas in 1993 to record multiple 20-point games in an NBA Finals series. The young guard should be proud of the rookie season he’s put together.Dylan Harper is starter for the Spurs next seasonEver since the Spurs drafted him, Dylan Harper’s opportunities have grown. The 20-year-old exceeded expectations this season. It was expected that he would take a couple of years to develop into a star, but he kept improving throughout the season.Despite playing most of his minutes off the bench, he looked like a seasoned veteran. He made all the right plays on both ends, shooting 50.5% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range.Harper will undoubtedly be stronger next season when it begins in October. The fact that he is already this good and still only 20 is impressive. There’s a real chance he becomes the starting guard next season if he keeps developing well. He’s going to be an important player for a long time.Read More:“Knicks MVP Right There”: NBA Fans Pin Blame on De’Aaron Fox After Spurs Choke Again in NBA Finals Elimination Game 53 Biggest Losers as New York Knicks Win 2026 NBA Championship Ft. Brown: “I'm proud of the team”
Brown: “I'm proud of the team”Germany appeared to be cruising after Felix Nmecha’s early opener, but Curaçao stunned the favourites with a surprise equaliser in the 21st minute. To their credit, Julian Nagelsmann’s side responded emphatically, regaining control of the contest before running riot to secure a comprehensive six-goal victory.Among the standout performers was Brown, who marked his World Cup debut in memorable fashion. The 22-year-old full-back showed no signs of nerves on the biggest stage, contributing a goal and an assist in an outstanding all-round display.Speaking after the match, Brown reflected on a dream debut and the team’s impressive response to adversity.“It’s indescribable that I scored in my first World Cup match. We’re very pleased to have scored seven goals. The goal we conceded was unnecessary, but perhaps it did us good to wake us up. I’m proud of the team for simply carrying on and playing well. The goals are good for us, but we also need to keep working on our weaknesses.”Brown’s performance will have done no harm to his chances of retaining his place in the starting lineup, and he will be eager to build on his impressive World Cup debut when Germany face Ivory Coast on June 20.

Bo Bichette’s declining value could give Red Sox chance to land perfect offensive fit
Bo Bichette’s declining value could give Red Sox chance to land perfect offensive fit originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox are in a bit of a bind this season, as they were expected to be a true top contender, and have ended up falling way short of that. They are 29-39, and five games behind the final spot in the AL Wild Card. The most visible reason for this is Boston’s lack of stud bats in the offense, which they were supposed to pursue this offseason. Luckily, it seems one of them may be up for grabs again next offseason, as it was reported that New York Mets All-Star Bo Bichette may be opting out of his contract after 2026.Bichette’s value is at an all-time low © Sam Navarro-Imagn ImagesComing off a World Series run with the Toronto Blue Jays, Bichette was supposed to be the bat to complement Juan Soto after New York lost Pete Alonso. However, this season, Bichette has been anything but that. He’s slashing .236/.283/.361/.661 with nine doubles, eight home runs, and 40 RBI in 70 games played. While this is on the low side, keep in mind, a lot of the Mets aren’t doing well, which is shown in their 31-29 record. This is actually good for the Red Sox, though, as it lowers his asking price if he does opt out. Plus, his swing is built for Fenway Park, which is probably something he knows as well.Bichette could have a comeback in Boston © Brian Fluharty-Imagn ImagesBichette could thrive in Fenway. He’s a pull hitter, which isn’t serving him well at Citi Field, with left field being 358ft to the wall, and deep left-center being 385ft. In Boston, left field is only 310ft away, with deep center-left being 379ft. Sure, the Green Monster is there, but Bichette would abuse it for doubles and easier home runs. The proof for this is from his Blue Jay days: he slashed .329 with 47 hits, six being homers, for 30 RBI and 27 runs scored in 35 games at Fenway. The Sox should try for a “prove it” deal © Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesIf he does opt out, the Sox need to offer him a “prove it” deal, like they did Alex Bregman; a one-year contract to prove he’s bounced back, with an opt-out for the next season. However, if he does bounce back, unlike with Bregman, the Red Sox need to re-sign him. Then, he could be either at second base or shortstop, and Marcelo Mayer would fill the other spot.Hopefully, the chance presents itself, and the Red Sox jump at the opportunity.MORE MLB NEWSRed Sox may have rushed Roman Anthony after sophomore slump derails superstar expectationsRed Sox face major roster decisions as trade deadline forces tough choices on key playersCaleb Durbin’s breakout could save the Red Sox from another major roster mistake

‘I’m A True Fighter’ – Regan Upshaw’s Unconventional Journey From The NCAA College Football Championship To MMA
Before Regan Upshaw steps into Lumpinee Stadium for his ONE Championship debut, most fans will see a highly touted heavyweight MMA fighter with explosive finishing ability and an easygoing smile. What they may not realize is that the American’s journey to the world’s largest martial arts organization has followed a path few athletes have ever taken.View this post on InstagramUpshaw will face Britain’s Paul “King of the North” Elliott in a heavyweight MMA showdown at ONE Fight Night 44: Jarvis vs Rungrawee II on Prime Video, which airs live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, June 26.While he arrives unbeaten across amateur MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing competition, combat sports were not the first arena where he found success.Long before he was chasing knockouts, Upshaw was winning National Championships on the football field and building a reputation as a versatile athlete capable of thriving in multiple sports. Learn more about his extraordinary road to the ONE Championship ring. From NFL Roots To Clemson FootballBorn in Tampa, Florida, Upshaw was raised in the shadow of professional sport. The family patriarch, Regan Upshaw Sr., spent nine seasons in the NFL and appeared in Super Bowl XXXVII with the Oakland Raiders. Yet despite his father’s football pedigree, the younger Upshaw’s path onto the field was anything but conventional. He spent parts of his childhood in Virginia, California, and Florida, and unlike many future college football players, he wasn’t immersed in organized football from an early age. In fact, his mother and father were not particularly interested in pushing him toward the gridiron. But eventually, he found his way there.Upshaw explained:“Actually, I played football very late. I started when I was 15, and then we were doing like a homeschool scenario. They didn’t understand the rules and everything, so we ended up not playing any further.”Instead, Upshaw spent his younger years competing in a variety of other sports, including hockey and rugby, where he developed the foundation that would later serve him well in both football and fighting.Still, he never stopped believing opportunities would come his way.Rather than worrying about recruiting rankings or resumes, he focused on preparing himself. He trained on his own, improved his athleticism, and trusted that the right opportunity would eventually arrive. That faith paid off. In the summer following his junior year of high school, Upshaw attended a football camp at Clemson University in South Carolina. At the time, he wasn’t even playing organized football. But what happened next changed the trajectory of his life. The 28-year-old recalled:“One thing about me is I’ve always been very good about visualization, and opportunities will pop up. Even though I wasn’t on a team, I was going to the park. I was doing drills. I was looking at who’s the strongest in my class, and I would go to the gym and I’d get my numbers up.“My parents happened to drive by a Clemson football camp and asked if I wanted to go. So, I ended up going to the camp. I did my thing, and I got an opportunity.”View this post on InstagramThat opportunity ultimately led him to Clemson following his graduation a year later, where Upshaw became part of one of the most successful programs in modern college football history.Over six seasons with the Clemson Tigers, the defensive end helped the team win two NCAA College Football National Championships and experienced a level of sustained success that few athletes ever reach.Looking back, he remains grateful for everything the program gave him:“Clemson was awesome. Clemson has an amazing culture, and I’m very grateful for that experience with the Tigers. I had some of my best experiences there and also, growing up, some of my hardest experiences there. I’m very grateful for Clemson and that time.”Why Football Wasn’t The Final DestinationFor many athletes, winning NCAA College Football National Championships would represent the culmination of a sporting journey. As for others, it’s a pathway to major professional sports leagues like the NFL.Upshaw, however, had another dream waiting in the background.Combat sports had fascinated him for years. Even while football occupied most of his attention, the idea of eventually becoming a fighter never disappeared. He said:“Fighting is something that I’ve always wanted to do.“I’ve seen PRIDE – the old PRIDE fights a long time ago. I’d seen big events when I was a kid. It’s always been in my realm, so to speak. So, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”View this post on InstagramAfter graduating from Clemson, Upshaw could have continued pursuing football and enter the NFL Draft. Instead, he found himself increasingly drawn toward a sport where success depended entirely on individual performance.Football had given him championships, lifelong friendships, and invaluable lessons, but he was ready for a different challenge. He explained:“The opportunity was on the table. I could have done my pro day, I could have gone and probably made a team doing special teams. I had a bunch of freak numbers. But the reality is football was no longer for me. It served its purpose.“It was time for me to do something where I get what I earned. That’s why I wanted to do fighting.”View this post on InstagramBetting On Himself Again In MMAUpshaw’s first serious exposure to martial arts came in Ohio, where he initially began training simply because he enjoyed it.At first, he wasn’t preparing for a professional career. He was just another student learning a new skill. But the deeper he got into training, the more convinced he became that he could build something special in combat sports, particularly MMA.If he wanted to maximize his potential, however, Upshaw knew he needed to surround himself with elite talent. That realization led him to Denver, Colorado. Interestingly, the decision was influenced by a personal tradition that had guided him for years. He explained:“In college, we used to have a word for the year, right? Like, what are you going to give to the team, and what’s your word for the year? I brought this with me into my normal life when I left college. My word for the year was ‘elevate.’ I wanted to elevate my life.“I was doing some research on YouTube and saw some top coaches training in Denver. One of the walls said Team Elevation. I always put things together. I’m always looking for clues like that. And I pulled the trigger.”View this post on InstagramBy 2023, he made the move to Denver. Once Upshaw arrived in the “Mile High City,” he began training with Elevation Fight Team members at High Altitude Martial Arts and followed the same formula that had worked throughout his life.He showed up, put in the work, and believed the results would come. And they did.The former defensive end said:“High Altitude was my first gym, and I just went into the normal beginner class and trained like everybody else. I didn’t announce myself or what I wanted to do or anything of that nature. I just went to work and started getting noticed.”View this post on InstagramThat approach has fueled an unbeaten run through amateur MMA, Muay Thai, and kickboxing competition, and it ultimately led to him joining ONE Championship earlier this year. Now, Upshaw is preparing for the biggest opportunity of his young combat sports career, as he’ll make his professional MMA debut at ONE Fight Night 44 in just a few short weeks.Time and again throughout his life, Upshaw has trusted his instincts. Whether it was attending a camp without an organized football background, leaving the sport after winning National Championships, or relocating across the country to pursue fighting, he has consistently backed himself to succeed. And he expects nothing less on June 26.He said:“I’ve always been a gamer. I’ve always been confident. I find that I’m a true fighter.“You can teach somebody techniques, but when you put yourself in an environment with some of the best coaches and best fighters in the world, and you keep showing up, you’re going to learn pretty quick. That’s what I bet on.”View this post on InstagramSource

Gareth Southgate backs England for World Cup glory after turning down TV work to ‘keep out of the way’
Former England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed he turned down offers for World Cup television work, opting instead to "keep out of the way" to avoid distracting the national team. Despite his absence, Southgate expressed strong confidence in the squad, stating they are "ready to win" the tournament. This summer's 48-team competition in North America marks the first World Cup since 1994 that Southgate will not be directly involved, following his successful tenure which saw England reach a World Cup semi-final and quarter-final, alongside back-to-back European Championship finals before his departure after Euro 2024.Explaining his decision in an Instagram video, Southgate highlighted his extensive history with the tournament. "This is obviously a very different tournament for me this one, I have been at the last seven World Cups as a player, as a broadcaster, as a scout and then as a manager," he said. Southgate led England to two European Championship finals (Bradley Collyer/PA) (PA Archive)"This time I took a conscious decision not to do the TV. I didn’t think it would be helpful for me to be talking about the team."He further elaborated on his desire to prevent any potential misinterpretations. "I don’t want anything to be misconstrued or thrown at them in press conferences. So, best for me to keep out of the way."Offering his full backing, Southgate added: "I want to take a moment to say good luck to all the boys. All the knockout nights they’ve had means they are going to be full of confidence going into the tournament. “They have overcome so many hurdles to winning, penalty shootouts, semi-finals, we got so close and they are ready to win. I am looking forward to watching. I hope everybody has a great one and I will be staying out of the way."England arrived at their Kansas City base on Saturday and are set to commence their Group L campaign against Croatia in Dallas on Wednesday.

Iranian football legend Azizi puts peace above politics amid World Cup tensions
Khodadad Azizi celebrating with fans after Iran qualified for the 1998 World Cup (WILLIAM WEST)Iranian football legend Khodadad Azizi, who played in the first World Cup meeting between Iran and the United States in 1998, has told AFP that football should promote "peace" and remain separate from politics.Azizi, 54, was speaking as Iran prepare to play their first match at the World Cup co-hosted by the United States, the country they have been at war with since February.Nicknamed Team Melli, Iran will open their World Cup campaign against New Zealand in Los Angeles on Monday, hoping to reach the knockout stage for the first time in their history."If we beat New Zealand, we will advance from our group, and that is not a difficult task," Azizi said in an exclusive interview. The match comes after the Iranian squad has had to overcome a series of additional hurdles. They relocated the team's base camp from Tucson, Arizona to the Mexican border city of Tijuana and said the US initially refused visas for 15 members of the delegation, including football federation chief Mehdi Taj.Azizi was part of the Iran side that defeated the United States 2-1 in the countries' first World Cup meeting at the 1998 tournament in France. In a widely remembered gesture before kick-off, players exchanged flowers, while Iranian captain and goalkeeper Ahmadreza Abedzadeh presented Iranian handicrafts to the American side.Azizi recalled that a group photo was also proposed by organisers."Because it was about football, and there were political differences between the governments, the idea of a group photo was proposed, since football is a symbol of peace," Azizi told AFP.- Football above politics -The former striker, nicknamed "the speedy gazelle" by Iranian commentators, said he did not observe any inappropriate behaviour during the match, which ended with FIFA awarding both sides the Fair Play award."I personally exchanged jerseys with the player wearing the number two in the US squad (Frankie Hejduk)," Azizi said. "Through this gesture in the match against the US, we wanted to show that football is above politics."Azizi, now a television commentator in Iran, said he regretted that the atmosphere at the current tournament is "filled with nothing but politics".On the treatment of teams entering the United States, he added: "I have never seen this level of strictness regarding teams' entry", and contrasted it with what he described as the "respect and dignity" shown in 1998.Azizi also criticised FIFA, saying: "How is America any different from Germany or France?"Do you think the players have any other choice? These issues are happening because of FIFA's weakness," he added.Despite the controversies, Azizi said the Iran team members had told him via messaging apps that they were thinking about matters on the pitch."The team is not thinking about these matters at all; they are laser-focused on football," he said.He also dismissed criticism from Iranian dissidents who accuse the team of representing the authorities rather than the public."A player plays for his country, not for political reasons," Azizi said.ap/sbr/rkh/nf/gj

Hamilton's first Ferrari win a statement to himself and rest of F1
Tennis' 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic waved the chequered flag as Hamilton crossed the line [Getty Images]Lewis Hamilton's historic first victory for Ferrari in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was a statement to himself as well as to the rest of Formula 1, and the watching world. It answered doubts Hamilton admitted to having at times himself about whether he could still do the job at the pinnacle of the sport he once dominated. It justified his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari. And it proved Ferrari could get back to winning ways after a period that was as difficult for them as it was for the driver who has delivered their first win since Mexico in October 2024.The race turned on a virtual safety car that gifted Hamilton a cheap pit stop and ensured he would come out in the lead from Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli. But Hamilton and Ferrari did not need the luck. Mercedes admitted after the race that the seven-time champion would have likely beaten them anyway. It would just have required him to pass their cars on track to do it. Such was his pace on fresher tyres, though, that there was little doubt he would have managed it.Hamilton says Barcelona win beyond wildest dreamsHamilton wins first grand prix for Ferrari'I allowed it to get to me'For Hamilton it was a moment of redemption after a first season at Ferrari that left him questioning himself, and others questioning him.It was painful to watch him at points last year, as he wrestled with the confusion created by his lack of pace. He called the season a "nightmare". He called himself "just useless". He suggested Ferrari should get another driver. On Sunday, after soaking up the adulation of his team, fighting back tears on the podium, he revealed what he had gone through to get back to the place he belongs."After a year like last year," he said, "there were definitely moments that I was like, 'Sheesh, maybe it is true that, you know, when you get to a certain point, you lose it.' But I've proven that you don't. You always have it and it just takes work."The criticism he had received had hurt him, he acknowledged."I mean, I'm only human," he said. "So, there's moments where I see the stuff and for sure there's moments where I allowed it to get to me and penetrate deeply."He went away over the winter, turned off his social media, and set about resetting himself."The training that I put in was harder than I've ever experienced, to keep myself in good shape," the 41-year-old said, "because I think at the beginning of last year I got injured here, actually, and carried that for months."Just things that I know is to never second-guess yourself, never doubt yourself. You've got to continue to believe in yourself at the core. And those are the things that I've managed to reimplement into my mentality. I've rebuilt my mind to this point, to get myself back to where I was."Hamilton is only the fourth driver in his 40s to win an F1 race since 1958, following Graham Hill in 1969, Sir Jack Brabham in 1970 and Nigel Mansell in 1994.New rules, new mindset, new girlfriendLewis Hamilton's girlfriend Kim Kardashian attended the Monaco Grand Prix a week ago [Getty Images]Few people know Hamilton better than Toto Wolff, the Mercedes team principal with whom Hamilton won six of his seven titles, during which time they became friends.Hamilton's revival this year, Wolff said, was partly down to the work he had put in, partly down to the new cars this year suiting him more than the ones of the past four years, which had a different aerodynamic design.Wolff even said he thought Hamilton's new relationship with Kim Kardashian had also played a part."Hard work," Wolff said, "and I think this is a car that is maybe different to the previous era cars with the bouncing, with the stiffness, maybe not easy to feel. And this is back to more conventional driving in terms of at least aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics."Obviously, the engine management is completely different, but you can see he's driving strong. The dynamics in the team look to be good between him and his race engineer."I saw him on the podium, on the telly. I mean, that face shows me that he's very happy."Maybe the girlfriend helps. Helped me to have a partner that you have a stable family life, and they seem to be getting on really well. I think it's all of those factors that put together the emotional and the personal and professional perspective. If they are in a good place, you win."Hamilton does indeed look a different driver this year. Last year, he struggled compared with team-mate Charles Leclerc, renowned as one of the fastest drivers on the grid, especially in qualifying.Hamilton out-qualified Leclerc only seven times last year across all qualifying sessions, over 24 grands prix and six sprints. And Leclerc was 0.15 seconds a lap quicker on average.Hamilton had also been beaten by George Russell two seasons out of three from 2022 to 2024.This year, he has looked much more at home. The ground-effect aerodynamics, and stiffly sprung cars, have been consigned to history. These new ones are more like the ones with which Hamilton had so much success. In qualifying this year, Hamilton is 6-4 up on Leclerc and on average pace there is virtually nothing to choose between them.'A shock to the Ferrari system'Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur first worked together in Formula 3 [Getty Images]Hamilton also seems to have had a galvanising effect on Ferrari. He demanded changes of the team, to the car for him specifically, but also in attitude and approach. In doing so, his voice as a multiple champion was added to what team principal Frederic Vasseur, who was instrumental in bringing Hamilton to Maranello, was already saying."Me coming was a big shock to the system because I am very, very vocal," Hamilton said."If I see something that I don't think is right, or I push very, very hard, that's at the core of who I am and I'm relentless with it."And I think it's not easy to be on the receiving end of that when you're also juggling a whole organisation, you know, and a culture that in its own is set in a certain way."Vasseur said: "The collaboration, we are improving. We know each other, at least Ferrari and Lewis, we know each other a bit more each day. And it's all a matter of details."I'm taking it as a mega good result, mega positive result. Good reward for everybody, for Lewis, for the team in Maranello, for the team on track. But it's not that the situation is completely different compared to last week."Vasseur refused to take any credit for the rebuilt Hamilton of this season."I have zero merit on this," the Frenchman said. "It's more Lewis himself. He was able to come back after a tough moment of weekends. He was able to come back and do a full reset. To continue to push, to continue to come at the factory on Tuesday morning."This commitment is a huge support. Coming from a world champion, it's even more, I would say. It was also a huge motivation for everybody at the factory."'Hamilton train can be very difficult to stop'Hamilton's victory, in such convincing style, has inevitably raised questions about what he and Ferrari can go on to achieve. The team entered this year with high hopes that the new regulations for chassis and engine could give them a chance to return to the front. So six consecutive Mercedes victories at the start of the year, and the obvious fact that Ferrari's engine was lagging behind the best, were an unwelcome surprise. The Ferrari car was as good as anything else in the corners - perhaps the best - but that was not enough to compete with Mercedes.Barcelona changed all that. Ferrari introduced their second major upgrade of the year, to follow the first at the fourth race of the season in Miami. And on a track where power is not such an important part in lap time, it made a critical difference.Hamilton was left behind by Antonelli in Monaco a week ago, on a track where power is even less important. But this time he was the fastest driver in the race. The win - in combination with Antonelli's first retirement of the year - puts Hamilton 41 points adrift of the Italian, and extends his lead over Russell to nine. And under F1's engine rules, Ferrari have been granted two upgrades this season, Mercedes only one. The first could come, it is said, as early as the next race in Austria.Hamilton has been seeking that elusive eighth title ever since he lost it in the controversy of Abu Dhabi 2021. To achieve it with Ferrari would be one of the biggest stories F1 has ever seen. Can he do it?"With the way that the year started out, I have not really been thinking about it like that," Hamilton said. "I've not been thinking about an eighth."Mercedes have come out the gates with a blistering car and blistering pace, both drivers doing such a great job. We know we have this power deficit."There's going to be tracks where we go to with long, long straights where that makes it even harder."But we've got a great car at the core and if we keep adding performance and we can go through the corners quicker, maybe we can narrow that deficit down a little bit until we improve or until we close the gap on power."Wolff said: "I'd rather not fight with him for a title because I know what he's capable of. If he smells blood, he goes. I've seen it many years where suddenly the Lewis Hamilton train started to go and then it's very difficult to stop it."Perfect 10 for Hamilton and Norris keeps fighting - driver ratingsMercedes ask for right of review over Gasly penaltyAndrew Benson Q&A: Send us your questionsBarcelona GP Review: Hamilton Wins for Ferrari

Cleveland Browns trio of young WRs continues to show promise
BEREA, OHIO - JUNE 10: Denzel Boston #12 and KC Concepcion #1 of the Cleveland Browns run a drill during the Cleveland Browns Mandatory Minicamp at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus on June 10, 2026 in Berea, Ohio. (Photo by Nick Cammett/Getty Images) | Getty Images The Cleveland Browns have a long and productive history at the wide receiver position. From their first season in 1946, when Dante Lavelli averaged 21.1 yards per reception, through Gary Collins and Paul Warfield in the 1960s, Reggie Rucker and Dave Logan in the 1970s, Webster Slaughter, Reggie Langhorne, and Brian Brennan in the 1980s, almost every generation of fans enjoyed watching Cleveland’s receivers in action. That has not exactly been the case since the team returned in 1999, with a few outliers (such as Josh Gordon’s 1,646 receiving yards in 2013 or Braylon Edwards’ 16 touchdown receptions in 2007). The situation bottomed out in recent years as the combination of historically poor quarterback play and a group of wide receivers averse to catching passes left Cleveland’s offense struggling to accomplish anything.Things could be improving this fall, at least when it comes to the guys tasked with catching the ball, in the form of three young players. First up is Isaiah Bond, who has been drawing favorable comments throughout his first offseason with the club. While Bond is in his second year, he did not sign with the Browns until training camp due to off-field issues, which left him having to catch up during the season, which is never an easy task. Excited to see what Isaiah Bond can do in a Todd Monken style offense. Added muscle, still has that same foot speed. A true “touch guy” who wins in space and creates “easy yards.” That skill set translates fast. #Brownspic.twitter.com/HP25SANC99— Lance Reisland (Coach Riz) (@LanceReisland) April 22, 2026Now with some additional seasoning to go along with some added muscle, Bond is starting to resemble an NFL wide receiver, according to wide receivers coach Christian Jones:“He’s not afraid to go up and attack the ball. He’s not afraid to get guys off of him when he’s running his routes. A lot of fast receivers typically have issues getting in and out of their breaks, carrying their speed into their breaks, and that’s something that I have not seen with him. He’s not afraid to carry all his speed into a speed cut, coming back down the stem, an angle break, a square cut, and that’s been really impressive.”Cleveland’s trio of young wide receivers will be filled out by rookies KC Concepion (one of the club’s two first-round draft picks) and Denzel Boston (who the Browns chose in Round 2).The rookies were highlighted in Terry Pluto’s column on Sunday at cleveland.com about what he is hearing about the Browns:I heard a lot of good things about the Browns’ various preseason workouts. One name dominated – Denzel Boston. My source told me, “Don’t misunderstand, we like KC (first-round pick KC Concepcion) a lot … but Boston has been phenomenal at times.”Boston has impressed with his size, and his strength and reliable hands mean he can catch the ball in tight coverage. He had 19 TD catches in his last two college seasons. The Browns wisely stuck to their draft board and grabbed Boston, even though they had picked Concepcion in front of him.Concepcion has been getting better during the various workouts. He’s had some drops, but not excessive. Coach Todd Monken can use him in various ways — as a slot receiver, an outside receiver, and on jet sweeps. The idea is to get the ball into his hands and let him make plays. It is easy (or at least easier) to look good in a practice setting with no pads and where the defense is not hitting you. But it is still encouraging to continue to read that Bond, Boston, and Concepcion are showing why the Browns were interested in them in the first place. Cleveland still needs to fix the quarterback issue, but at least there is renewed hope that if whoever is at quarterback can get the ball out, the guy on the other end may actually be able to catch and make a play. Which for a team looking for anything positive on offense, would be a great first step.

Blue-chip defensive lineman commits to Auburn over South Carolina
