I'll keep gambling with fitness for England - Saka
Bukayo Saka has made 49 appearances for England [Getty Images]Bukayo Saka says he will continue gambling with his fitness and is "ready to go" for England's World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday. The Arsenal winger has been carrying an Achilles injury since March and had game-time managed for both Arsenal and the Three Lions. Saka missed the March international break with the issue and seven games for the Gunners but returned to help his club side lift the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years. England manager Thomas Tuchel has said he needs to "take care" of the 24-year-old and it is "very unlikely" Saka would "start and finish" all the World Cup matches. But when asked if he is ready to play the whole of England's opening game in Dallas, Saka said he is ready to be selected. "I don't want to say anything that goes against the manager," Saka said. "What I would say is that between Mikel [Arteta] and the Arsenal medical team and Thomas [Tuchel] and the England medical team, since March they have managed me amazingly and helped me get back on the pitch and do what I can for the team. "I'm feeling better than I have felt in the last few months and I'm ready to go." Saka, who will make his 50th appearance for England in his next match, played 27 minutes of England's warm-up game against Costa Rica as the forward's game-time was managed by Tuchel. The winger was taken off in the Champions League final as Arsenal lost to Paris-St Germain in Budapest with the scores level at the time of his substitution. Saka's performance in that match was criticised, but when asked if he found it frustrating being judged while not 100% fit, he said it is a "gamble" he is willing to take. "Yeah, but I think as players it's the biggest gamble, especially if you're not feeling your sharpest. You have the choice whether you don't play or you put yourself out there knowing that people are going to judge you the same," Saka said. "And at the end of the day people don't really care how you're feeling, they expect you to deliver, they expect you to perform."I'm happy to take that gamble and it paid off I'd say, and I'm going to continue doing that - but like I said I'm feeling a lot better than I did in March and I'm ready to go, so I'm excited." Saka is competing for a starting spot on the right wing with Arsenal team-mate Noni Madueke, but says that despite competing for game-time for club and country they want the best for each other. "It's quite unique, two players that play in the same position to be as close as we are," Saka said. "I don't really know how it works, but it works. Noni is like my brother on and off the pitch. We push each other and we speak every day. "We have that mutual respect for each other and we want each other to do well. "The good thing is that we play on the same team and that if one of us is doing well it is good for the other." Do the Spurs need to shake it up? Why San Antonio shouldn't overreact to NBA Finals disappointment
San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson laid it plain in his closing press conference: “We weren’t ready to win an NBA championship.”The New York Knicks certainly were. They took every first quarter, first-half punch the Spurs threw and responded. Jalen Brunson got the buckets he needed; Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby filled gaps on both ends of the floor. Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges were timely; Jose Alvarado and Landry Shamet consistently tilted the energy, one drive, 3-pointer, screen, defensive stop at a time. Mitchell Robinson created extra chances, as he always does. More bites at the (Big) apple, if you will. There was a resolve with this group; an unrelenting belief that they could overcome anything thrown their way. There was a tactical comfort from Knicks head coach Mike Brown that screamed, “We may not have the answers right now, but we have a bunch of buttons available to find them.” That’s the spot, the level of know-how, that the Spurs are trying to get to.Nobody feels good after losing in five games. These Spurs sure won’t. Getting this close to the mountaintop, only to see yourself falter in short order understandably leaves a rough taste in the mouth. Losing all three games on your home floor, seeing your season end despite holding a lead for a majority of the series is tough to sit with. But that’s the playoffs for you. Cruel. Quick. Humbling, if you aren’t ready.Instead of jubilation, there’s noise to shuffle through. Noise about Victor Wembanyama’s readiness; he could never consistently ding a Knicks defense that worked to take away the easy stuff, the Knicks put him in action at almost-never-seen volume, and his response to physicality drew questions about his temperament. Noise about Johnson and his rotation decisions; noise about De’Aaron Fox’s performance and his status in the hierarchy with Dylan Harper’s star ascension feeling more imminent than hopeful. (Funny dichotomy that is: “F them picks” on one side, “Would the Spurs need to attach picks in a Fox deal?” on the other.)There’s room to discuss all of it, but I’d first caution against letting those topics take away from the bigger picture. Feeling disappointment is fair; feeling or calling for shame, for this run, is a bridge way too far. These Spurs weren’t supposed to be here; not this soon, or with this level of dominance.Seeds were planted last season. Per Cleaning The Glass, the Spurs performed like a 47-win team with a top-10 defense with Wemby on the floor. His rim protection, deadly; his rim deterrence, both easy to see and harder to wholly quantify. Johnson, who took over on an interim basis for the legendary Gregg Popovich, would occasionally deploy Wemby in a zone, but largely unleashed him as a drop coverage monster with the occasional late switch. That evolved into whatever you call the Spurs defense now. A maze? A labyrinth? We can stick with “headache” for now. As the great Steve Jones detailed, Wemby became a moving, pointing, always-talking, everpresent target. He might start possessions on a big; he may start in the corner of his choosing; either way, he was able to dictate terms to opposing offenses with a cadre of feisty perimeter defenders flying around to further restrict openings for opposing offenses. The defense with Wemby on the floor went from elite to darn-near impenetrable. Per Cleaning The Glass, that meant:A 105.1 defensive rating, 2.2 points stingier than the Thunder’s league-leading markA 90.4 defensive rating in the half-court, again stingier than OKC’s league-leading mark Opponents taking just 26.2% of their shots at the rim Opponents converting just 60.8% of their shots at the rimThat defense jumpstarted an electric transition attack — the Spurs were in transition on nearly 18% of their possessions with Wemby on the floor — that highlighted the talents and athleticism of their guards. The added emphasis on flare screens set early in the clock put defenses in more peril.Between those flare screens, off-ball screens to set up middle touches, and inverted ball screens set by guards, Johnson worked to move Wemby around the board much like he did defensively. It was that foundation that allowed the Spurs to not only improve from last year, but to win [checks notes] 62 games while boasting the second-best point differential in the league. The only team ahead of them, that Thunder team, lost the regular-season series to the Spurs, 4-1.The irony. Within that, we saw the empowerment of Fox, Harper, and Stephon Castle as attackers and, especially in the case of Castle, full-throttled defenders. Both Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie opened doors with their shooting, screening, and occasional offensive rebounding.Keldon Johnson did whatever was asked — shoulder-nudging drives, timely 3-point makes, offensive glass cleaning — en route to winning Sixth Man of the Year. Luke Kornet held down the fort as a reliable backup big, screening and sealing his way into positive impact plays. They dispatched of the Portland Trail Blazers, a versatile defensive group (8th in 2026) almost tailor-made to disrupt the Spurs’ offense with their personnel and penchant for cross-matching, in Round 1 of the postseason. Next came the Minnesota Timberwolves, led by a hampered-but-deadly Anthony Edwards off the backs of consecutive Western Conference finals appearances. They knocked off the defending champion Thunder in a seven-game thriller. The Thunder weren’t at full strength either, but coming back from a 3-2 deficit — having to win Game 7 on the road — is no small feat. You’ll have to excuse me for not thinking the Spurs should blow things up because of their blown leads in the Finals. The leap from last year to this one was too great to overreact in that matter. That’s not to say there’s no room for criticism, starting with Wemby. Part of the Spurs’ offensive inconsistencies in the Finals start with his lack of a go-to move or area. There are plenty of contexts in which he can be successful; there wasn’t one that the Spurs felt they could consistently go to and generate something fruitful.Cries for Wemby to jump on the Giannis Plan of body-buidling — seriously, we have to stop saying this for incredibly obvious reasons (they don’t have the same frame, nor did they have the same pre-draft living context) — are unreasonable. Wemby does have to strengthen his lower body so he isn’t pushed off his spots as easily. He must take another step as a screener. His shot decisions and overall game feel must get better. Considering he’s only 22 and seems to have the right mentality about self-improvement, it’s hard not to bank on him achieving those goals in the near future. That’s also not to say there’s no credence to looking at roster moves, specifically around Fox as his contract extension is set to kick in. The four-year pact, estimates courtesy of Spotrac, is a hefty one:2026-27: $49.5M2027-28: $53.5M2028-29: $57.4M2029-30: $61.4MIf you believe Harper and Castle are ready to be the backcourt of the present, I understand the logic of moving on if you can fill a need elsewhere. Is there a reasonable Fox-for-a-4 move out there? I have my doubts. Most of the league is either comfortable with who they have at point guard, or in position to draft one in a class projected to be pretty deep at the position. For the teams with some wiggle room — either with a veteran stopgap at the position, or a youngster that isn’t an obvious blue-chipper — how interested would they be in Fox without a sweetener? I’m sure the Spurs could talk themselves into a deal centered around, say, a Fox-Michael Porter Jr. swap; I’d guess the Nets would hang up the phone pretty quickly unless they were being incentivized. There are other 4s that would make sense — Aaron Gordon and P.J. Washington chief among them — but I’m not sure how you get there without incentive, a third team, or both. Nothing’s impossible, but the Spurs would have their work cut out for them.Beyond that … while there’s logic to explore a Fox move, is it really smart to move him now? He’s coming off a Finals series where he mostly underperformed, but also clearly wasn’t 100%. This doesn’t seem like an ideal leverage play, and with Castle and Harper still on rookie-scale deals, it’s not like the Spurs absolutely have to do something now. This is still a guy that averaged 18 & 6 while converting 58% of his 2s (!) during the regular season. The Spurs generated over 1.2 points per possession on trips featuring a Fox-Wemby pick-and-roll, the second-best mark in the league among 118 duos to run at least 200.I don’t think you sell low on that. And while Mitch Johnson didn’t press enough of the right buttons during the Knicks series, that shouldn’t be confused with him not pressing them at all. He continued to search for avenues to unlock Wemby more offensively, particularly in pick-and-roll. There was a willingness to toggle coverages and assignments with Wemby defensively as the Knicks increasingly sought him out. After understandable critiques of Wemby’s 44-minute Game 4, we saw a bunch of rest-stealing substitutions during Game 5 in hopes of keeping him fresher for the closing stretch. This was a learning period for Johnson — an extensive one considering how deep the run was, but a learning period nonetheless. He’s more than earned the opportunity to build on what this season was. Heck, this season should be enough proof for why the Spurs hand-picked him to take over to begin with. The Spurs put the NBA world on notice this year. While they didn’t get the ultimate job done, they certainly proved that they’re closer to pulling it off than many outside of their building gave them credit for.If not the fanfare, they should at least have the respect of the league. It’s now up to them to not only maintain their newfound heights, but to climb even higher. The world’s watching.

LOOK: Saints reveal jersey patch celebrating their 60th season
The upcoming 2026 regular season will mark the 60th anniversary of the New Orleans Saints' founding, and the team is marking the occasion with a new jersey patch worn on this year's uniforms. With players reporting for photo shoots at Monday's media day sessions, we got our first good look at the patch on a jersey. It features a beveled font in a nod to the "diamond jubilee" signifying a 60-year anniversary and the emblem of a knight's shield, recalling the team mascot "Sir Saint" and a logo variant used early in team history. The Saints' nine division titles (two in the old NFC West, seven in the NFC South) are represented by hash marks that both match the gridiron on a football field and with occasional staggering to resemble dripping "black gold," the oil that originally inspired team colors. See it for yourself:Celebrating Saints’ 60th season⚜️ pic.twitter.com/qTOtP3jQJY— New Orleans Saints (@Saints) June 15, 2026Solid. It's a solid logo with some fun details. It's not as brilliant as the old-school Louisiana patch the team used to wear, featuring the state outlined in black and gold with a star representing New Orleans, but it's a good jersey patch to mark a special occasion. We'll keep an eye out for other festivities to mark the team's 60th anniversary. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: LOOK: Saints reveal jersey patch celebrating their 60th season

While there will be a lot of attention on Aaron Glenn's defense, the offense is going to have a ton of eyes on it this summer.Geno Smith is the new quarterback, as he's returning for the first time in nearly a decade. But there is a more interesting question for the Jets at minicamp. As ESPN's Rich Cimini highlighted, the Jets have a big question about their wide receiver two behind Garrett Wilson that might get answered during minicamp.Jets might answer big WR2 question during minicamp"Who is emerging as Geno Smith's No. 2 target? We know Garrett Wilson is the No. 1, but the Jets need another reliable option in the passing game," Cimini writes. While it's still very early in the process of making this offense work together, minicamp will be the first real look at who could emerge as the No. 2 receiving option behind Wilson this upcoming season.Adonai Mitchell, the player the Jets got in the Sauce Gardner trade last year, and Omar Cooper Jr., the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, are the leading contenders for the No. 2 role in this offense.MORE: ESPN analyst says if Cade Klubnik gets on the field for Jets it would mean something went wrongUnfortunately, Kenyon Sadiq is going to miss minicamp, as his hernia surgery has sidelined him until training camp later this year.Mason Taylor is a decent tight end, but he looks more likely to be a depth option and a No. 2 TE with the Sadiq selection in the first-round this year.Behind Wilson, the Jets need a receiving threat to step up, and minicamp might provide the first glimpse at who that could be.Cooper and Mitchell are most likely to win this job, even if only until Sadiq returns from injury. Belgium and Egypt draw 1-1 in World Cup group game
Mohamed Salah (L) battles with Amadou Onana (ALEX GRIMM)Belgium and Egypt drew 1-1 in their World Cup opener on Monday after a second-half Belgian equalizer spoiled Mohamed Salah's 34th birthday.Emam Ashour opened the scoring early in the first half in Seattle, before Romelu Lukaku came off the bench after the hour to force Egypt's Mohamed Hany into an own goal. With the draw, seven-time Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt's wait for a first victory at a World Cup goes on.This is their fourth participation in the global showpiece and with Group G fixtures to come against Iran and New Zealand, they will hope to break that hoodoo in North America. For Belgium, this tournament is likely the last chance for the remnants of their golden generation to better their third-placed finish in Russia eight years ago and finally win silverware.Veterans Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Lukaku are the main protagonists of that group still involved in Rudi Garcia's squad. With all eyes in the Pacific Northwest on Salah and De Bruyne, it was the ex-Manchester City playmaker that created the first moment of note in the match when he dragged a sharp effort narrowly wide in the seventh minute. However, it was Ashour who upstaged the pair just before the hydration break when he received the ball in a similar position to De Bruyne but his sweetly-struck effort left Courtois no chance as it whistled into the bottom-right corner. It was just the second time in their history that Egypt had taken the lead in a World Cup match -- after Salah opened the scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in 2018.De Bruyne came within inches of levelling early in the second period when he whipped a close-range free-kick over the Egyptian wall, only to see it rocket off the outside of the post.Salah responded at the other end as he ghosted into the box but had his downward header punched away by Courtois with Ashour getting his follow-up effort all wrong. The match became stretched as both sides came close on a couple of occasions, including a screaming left-footed volley by Belgian captain Youri Tielemans. With 65 minutes gone, Rudi Garcia decided to send on Lukaku. The change immediately paid dividends as Belgium's all-time top goalscorer showed his predatory instincts to dash in on a Thomas Meunier cross, with his presence enough to destabilize Hany who put through his own net.Salah departed the field with 15 minutes remaining as Egypt sought to shut up shop and ultimately held out for a point.bur-nf/gj

That duo, both from Saint Mary’s, replace Toby DeMello, who had handled Arizona’s hitting and catching since 2022.Returning for 2027 is recruiting coordinator Trip Couch and pitching coach Sean Kenny, who was hired in January after the UA had three pitching coaches leave during the offseason.Caulfield played in 231 games for the UA from 2022-25, tied for second-most in school history behind Hale (255), and his 877 at-bats trail only Hale (978) on the career list. Caulfield hit .276 in his Wildcat career with 21 home runs and 153 RBI.A native of Sacramento, Caulfield spent two seasons at San Joaquin Delta College in 2020-21 but did not play because the school had both seasons cancelled due to COVID.

Mohamed Salah Assists in Egypt’s 1-1 Draw with Belgium
Mohamed Salah #10 of Egypt looks on during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G match between Belgium and Egypt at Seattle Stadium on June 15, 2026 in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty Images) | Getty Images Mohamed Salah led Egypt out in what is highly likely to be his last World Cup, and the winger put in a confident captain’s performance. Though Egypt will be disappointed to have conceded an own goal to allow Belgium to equalize midway through the second half, Salah can be pleased with his team’s performance. The man himself played the assist for Emam Ashour’s confident goal just before the 20th minute, Salah also created the joint most chances (3) across his 75 minutes on the pitch. The former Liverpool player is currently without a club as rumors swirl following Arne Slot’s departure that his time on Merseyside might not quite be done — though the rumors, which seem to have come from the Egypt camp, have been challenged by Mo Salah’s.Though the romance of Salah retiring as a Liverpool player is strong, the finances behind the kind of overhaul Liverpool require make it challenging to see how his wage packet could be accommodated even if a dramatic U-turn would be possible. Though Salah was far from the absolute star of the show in Seattle on Monday afternoon, his energetic and central performance certainly suggested he has playing years left in the tank. There are sure to be mixed opinions on this one.

Bills' Joe Brady raves about rookie defender early in his career
Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady has been impressed with one of his team's rookies early on this offseason and it might not be who you think. Kaleb Elarms-Orr was selected by Buffalo in the fourth-round of the 2026 NFL Draft. The TCU product believes he has what it takes to secure a spot on the field when the Bills begin their upcoming season against the Houston Texans in Week 1."I want to be a starter Week 1," Elarms-Orr said at OTAs. Adrian Rodriguez hits for third CWS cycle in 14-2 Texas win over Alabama
The red-hot postseason for sophomore shortstop Adrian Rodriguez continued on Monday at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha as the No. 6 Texas Longhorns extended their stay in the College World Series with a convincing 14-2 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. In the seventh postseason game for Rodriguez, the Flower Mound product recorded his seventh straight multi-hit performance, going 5-for-5 with seven RBI in hitting for just the third cycle in CWS history after a scoring decision review turned a second-inning double into a triple.Rodriguez combined with the two batters in front of him — freshman left fielder Anthony Pack Jr. and junior designated hitter Ethan Mendoza — to go 11-for-14 (.786) with six runs and 13 of the 14 RBI recorded by the Longhorns. In recording 13 hits overall, Texas went 8-for-17 (.471) with runners in scoring position and 9-for-21 (.429) with runners on base, evidence of the extent to which the Horns improved their mental process at the plate after getting sped up in Saturday’s loss to the Diamond Dogs.Texas also got a quality start from senior right-hander Ruger Riojas, the third straight from the 6’0, 195-pounder after battling shoulder tendinitis last month. Riojas threw 105 pitches over six innings, allowing two runs on six walks with seven strikeouts and two walks, putting the Horns in a positive to win without extending the bullpen after the offense gifted him three runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning. To open the game, Riojas worked off his lively fastball at 95 to 96 miles per hour, mixing in two different breaking balls to keep Alabama hitters off balance. Shortstop Justin Lebron did record a one-out single up the middle and a two-out stolen base, but the depth on a 1-2 breaking ball from Riojas induced the third strikeout in the frame.set the tone, @RugerRiojas_19 💪#HookEmpic.twitter.com/6Gw7SlIGgR— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026Texas quickly looked threatening in the first as junior right fielder Aiden Robbins bounced back from his 0-for-4 performance against Georgia by smashing a 1-0 breaking ball down the left-field line for a leadoff double. Junior catcher Carson Tinney worked a full-count walk and Pack got to 3-2, too, but flew out to left field. Battling through a right shoulder injury and elevated to the four spot in the lineup, Mendoza took advantage of an elevated breaking ball to shoot a double through the left side and drive in Robbins.double the fun 🤘#HookEm | @_EthanMendozapic.twitter.com/0NwF8RIiW5— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026So with only one out in the first inning, the Horns had already scored more runs against Adams than they did in the Texas product’s scoreless, six-inning outing in Austin two months ago. Rodriguez quickly added another double, pulling a 1-0 pitch down the right-field line to drive in two runs. shouldies in Omaha 👏#HookEm | @arod_2024pic.twitter.com/jmwBCK4HYe— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026Adams recovered to strand Rodriguez on third by retiring redshirt senior second baseman Temo Becerra on a groundout to third and striking out junior first baseman Ashton Larson. Despite getting ahead 0-2 against designated hitter Josh Lemm, Riojas issued a leadoff walk in the 11-pitch at bat as the Texas starter lost some velocity on his fastball and started to get some arm-side run on it, losing the strike zone entirely on an ensuing four-pitch walk. Trying to bunt, diminutive second baseman Brennan Holt got down 0-2 and suffered some bad luck on a hard-hit liner to first base that turned into a double play. Dropping down for an 0-1 breaking ball, Riojas gave up a bloop single to left field that got one run back for Bama and extended the inning, but only for one more batter as Riojas recovered his command enough to get ahead and force a groundout to shortstop.Junior third baseman Casey Borba opened the second inning with a leadoff single into the left-center gap, setting up a bunt situation for redshirt senior center fielder Dariyan Pendergrass, who finally got it down with two strikes to advance Borba into scoring position and turn the lineup over for Robbins. A strikeout on three pitches brought Tinney to the plate. Borba advanced to third on a wild pitch as Tinney drew his second walk.Down 1-2, Pack slapped his own bloop single to left to score Borba before Mendoza pushed the lead to four runs on an opposite-field single through the right side. your National Freshman of the Year 🤘#HookEm | @theeantpackpic.twitter.com/uRMIFvZ3T7— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026Doza delivers…AGAIN ‼️#HookEm | @_EthanMendozapic.twitter.com/eCrN448ZbJ— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026Rodriguez blew the game open, hitting a ball into the left-center gap that was misplayed by the Tide outfielders as the ball rolled to the warning track, allowing Rodriguez to advance to third on the two-run double eventually reclassified as a triple for a 7-1 lead as the Horns keyed in on Adams tipping his pitches, negating the effectiveness of his high-level changeup. After walking Becerra on a full count, Adams departed with two outs in the second inning and runners on the corners, but Alabama escaped without further damage as left-hander Matt Heiberger recorded the final out to strand both runners.Riojas appeared to settle in with a 1-2-3 third inning and a strikeout to start the fourth before spinning a breaking ball onto Lemm’s barrel for a solo home run and then giving up two straight singles. On a hard-hit ball into right-center, Pendergrass was able to track it down with a good jump for a big second out. Reaching 81 pitches, Riojas left two runners on base with a swinging strikeout to get out of the fourth. As assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki implored his hitters to work deeper in counts in the wake of a 12-pitch, 1-2-3 third inning, Tinney drew his third straight walk, but Pack grounded into a double play on the second pitch he saw from Heiberger. Mendoza was able to work a longer at bat before his own groundout that ended with his favoring his injured shoulder on the way back to the dugout.Longhorns head coach Jim Schlossnagle was able to get some length with Riojas out for the fifth and sixth innings, which went quickly as the Texas starter extended his streak of consecutive batters retired to eight to finish his outing. In the bottom of the sixth, two home runs turned the game into a blowout as Pack sent a two-run shot into the bullpen in left field, his fifth postseason homer, but his first since the Austin Regional, and a two-run bomb by Rodriguez at 106 miles per hour off the bat that traveled 418 feet.postseason Pack-Man 🤘#HookEm | @theeantpackpic.twitter.com/wbjU1QvWed— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026EN FUEGO 🔥#HookEm | @arod_2024pic.twitter.com/m9fQMKyxB4— Texas Baseball (@TexasBaseball) June 15, 2026It was only the fifth home run of the season for Rodriguez, who hasn’t had his typical power since breaking his right hand almost 16 months ago.On in relief for Riojas, freshman right-hander Brody Walls helped preserve the Texas bullpen, which only threw 31 pitches on Saturday, striking out two and allowing only a single base runner over two innings. In a heartening development for Schlossnagle and Tulowitzki, the Horns kept the pressure on the Tide at the plate, taking advantage of a fielding error by Lebron in the eighth when Tinney drew his fourth walk and Pack recorded his third RBI with an opposite-field single. Official | OGC Nice academy product Kail Boudache signs for LyonKail Boudache (19) has signed his first professional contract with Olympique Lyonnais, rather than formative club Olympique Lyonnais. Boudache ensured that he left a parting gift at Nice. He netted the goal that put Le Gym ahead in their Ligue 1 promotion/ relegation play-off against AS Saint-Étienne at the end of May. It ensured that the club remained in France’s top flight. That was his third goal for Nice and his last. Boudache was integrated into the first-team set-up by Claude Puel around the turn of the year. The Côte d’Azur club were determined to retain the promising prospect, who had risen through their academy. After Nice secured safety, they made a final attempt to retain the winger and sign him to a first professional contract, but in vain.Lyon made their move and succeeded in convincing Boudache to join the club. His arrival was confirmed on Monday. He has signed a five-year deal with Les Gones. OL will compete in the UEFA Champions League preliminary rounds next season.GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Tottenham Hotspur join Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign Sandro Tonali
Tottenham Hotspur join Arsenal and Manchester City in the race to sign Sandro TonaliTottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. The Italian is facing an uncertain future at St James’ Park this summer, with several top clubs interested in his services. Spurs’ pursuit is driven largely by manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has identified Tonali as his primary midfield target ahead of his first full season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Targeting a player of Tonali’s calibre signals Spurs’ intent to compete for silverware in the near future, having narrowly avoided relegation in 2025/26. Any deal for the 26-year-old will require Spurs to fend off competition from Manchester City and Arsenal. City see the Italian as a top alternative to first-choice target Elliot Anderson, while Arsenal remain interested after a failed January bid. With Tonali under contract until 2028, Newcastle United hold significant leverage and will demand a substantial fee to consider selling their prized asset, despite having already sanctioned a high-profile exit this summer, with Anthony Gordon moving to Barcelona, which somewhat alleviates the Magpies’ financial concerns.Having signed Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi, Spurs are moving quickly to complete their summer business. The North London club are also in talks with Brighton & Hove Albion for Jan Paul van Hecke and reportedly hold an interest in Bart Verbruggen.

Brayan Bello’s Growing Pains with Red Sox Aren’t a Setback
In March 2024, Brayan Bello signed a six-year, $55 million extension after posting a 4.24 ERA in 2023. This extension officially declared that he would be a part of Boston’s long-term future. A six-year extension was the longest contract of their 2023-2024 offseason. Brayan Bello is an aggressive user of his sinker and changeup, with above-average whiff and groundball rates against hitters on either side of the plate. This year, in his fifth season in Boston, he hit a breaking point. On June 4, the first inning unraveled before an out was ever recorded against Baltimore. It wasn’t just a bad outing; it was the kind of inning that forces an organization to reflect — especially given his inability to remain as a starter. It forces them to decide who a pitcher is right now versus who they believe he can become.MLB.com reported that Bello was officially optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Friday.“One of the things that we asked him to do was to kind of fall in love with baseball all over again,” Craig Breslow, the Red Sox Chief of Baseball Operations, said. “He’s gonna work hard — we know that. But [we told him] to remember why you love playing this game.” Brayan Bello’s Demotion, and What It Really MeansBello needed space to reset, refine his delivery, and rebuild the consistency that made him Boston’s most promising young arm. “This was no longer the best place for him to reset and work through this process,” Breslow said. His command had slipped, his pitch sequences fell apart, and his confidence looked shaken. The demotion also revealed something bigger: Bello is still trying to figure out how to pitch like the ace Boston expects him to be, and as the arm behind Garrett Crochet in the starting rotation.Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow addressed Brayan Bello's demotion before Friday's game vs. the Yankees in the Bronx. pic.twitter.com/z7PTZ9AJhE— NBC Sports Boston (@NBCSBoston) June 5, 2026A New Role for BelloThe Red Sox decided to give Bello a new environment on May 5 when he appeared out of the bullpen against the Tigers. During his first stint as a reliever this season, Bello threw seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits while recording seven strikeouts to earn the win. His trend as a consistent reliever continued through his next three games.Coming out of the bullpen, Bello has posted a 0.71 ERA across 25 innings. As a starter, Bello holds a 10.35 ERA in 35 innings. In these relief outings, Bello’s changeup was sharper, his velocity ticked up, and his groundball profile still translated in leverage spots. It seems like Bello works better in an environment someone creates for him, rather than in one he creates himself. When Bello’s pitches work, they work, but when Boston is paying him to be a starter, maybe the best option is to let him figure it out with the Woo Sox. “Stop talking about bullpen and starting games…when I’ve been successful as a starter, no one asks questions about whether I should be in the bullpen,” Bello said to NBC Sports Boston after his eight-run allowance on June 4.View this post on InstagramBello’s Upside is Still RealBello’s changeup remains his most valuable pitch, and the data backs that up. When it’s located below the zone, it produces a whiff rate comparable to top AL changeup specialists. The pitch’s vertical separation from his sinker is still elite, and hitters continue to chase it when he’s ahead in the count.Even during his inconsistent stretch, Bello’s ground‑ball percentage stayed above league average. Pitchers who generate ground balls at that rate tend to stabilize faster because they limit damage and avoid big innings when their command is right. This is the type of profile teams invest in long‑term because it’s sustainable, not streaky. At 25 years old, Bello is still in the developmental window where pitchers typically make their biggest leaps. Most frontline starters don’t fully stabilize until ages 26–28. His year‑to‑year improvements show that he’s trending in the right direction, even if the results haven’t lined up yet.The TakeawayBello’s upside isn’t hypothetical; it’s measurable. The tools, the age, the pitch shapes, and the flashes all point toward a pitcher who can still become a mid‑rotation anchor or better. His reset isn’t a setback. It’s a step in the development curve Boston expected. The post Brayan Bello’s Growing Pains with Red Sox Aren’t a Setback appeared first on The Lead.

How a 40-year-old goalkeeper became a World Cup sensation. And why he wept for Cabo Verde
ATLANTA ― He did it for his country. He did it for himself. But mostly, he did it for his mother and grandparents. Vozinha waited a long time for this moment. He worked for decades. He's 40 years old. And he just led his country, Cape Verde, to an improbable and once thought impossible result. Cape Verde, the third smallest country to ever qualify for the World Cup, held favorite Spain to a scoreless draw in front of an announced 67,640 people at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. For Cape Verde, the match meant so much more than its result. It brought global attention to a nation that made its World Cup debut. It also put a spotlight on its goalkeeper, who openly wept when the whistle blew."I cry because I (grew) up with my grandparents, and unfortunately, they are not here. They died a few years before, and they (were) everything, everything for me," Vozinha told reporters after the match. "And also because (of) my mom. She didn't manage to be here because ... of the money we have to pay for the visa. We didn't manage on time. I would like (for her) to be here, but I'm very happy also, and I'm very happy for all the Cabo Verdeans."Vozinha gained nearly two million followers on Instagram following his performance. When he arrived at postgame media interviews, his eyes were still red from crying as he held his player of the match trophy. "He was overwhelmed with emotion," Cape Verde coach Bubista said. "He’s quite an experienced player and struggled throughout all these years to be here on this world stage. It was also a cry of resilience."Cape Verde is No. 67 in FIFA's World Cup rankings. Spain is ranked No. 2. Yet, on Monday, what was once a proverbial David and Goliath story turned into an even playing field.Spain, a World Cup favorite, had 27 attempts on goal, but just seven of them were on target. Every time Spain thought it was close to finding relief in its defensive battle with Cape Verde, there was a one-man yellow wall waiting on the other side.Vozinha's heroic seven saves were the second-most by a goalkeeper age 40 or older in a single World Cup match since 1966."Very proud. For me, it's an honor to represent my country. We do this with passion, with love because we are from (a) very small country," a humble Vozinha said postmatch. "Today, a dream come true (to) compete against Spain."We are very, very happy. Very proud of all of the players, all of the people from Cabo Verde."For more than ninety minutes, Spain struggled to score. Ball after ball either went wide or was suddenly stopped in its tracks. Why did Spain struggle so much with Cape Verde? Vonzinha and an army of willing players who would not relent.Spain head coach Luis de La Fuente warned it would not be easy for his club against Cape Verde. He said pregame that The Blue Sharks played very well tactically and that they were a very well-structured team. He admitted that even if Spain won, it would be a struggle."We (knew) of how difficult this game was going to be," de la Fuente said. "We mentioned this before the match; it's (a) team playing in a very, very low block, defending deep."Spain now moves on to play Saudi Arabia in a must-win game at noon ET Sunday in Atlanta. Cape Verde faces a tough Uruguay team at 6 p.m. Sunday in Miami, and hopes to bring the same grit and determination they did to silence the reigning European champion."Of course, we already had a lot of confidence before, but, of course, this is a game that you have to survive, and I think we did well," Cape Verde midfielder Laros Duarte said. "So now we have an even better feeling, but like I said, we stayed calm, and we just continue the things that we practice. Now it's time to show it in the next two games. We have a good feeling."This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Vozinha, 40-year-old Cape Verde goalkeeper, played for grandparents

Texas scored in four different innings. Each scoring inning for the Longhorns had at lest three runs per scoring inning. Republican divides and strange alliances emerge ahead of Georgia runoff
Georgia governor candidate Rick Jackson campaigns in Alpharetta, Ga., Monday, June 15, 2026, before the runoff against Lt. Gov Burt Jones on June 16. (AP Photo/Bill Barrow)2026-06-15T21:38:02Z ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) — The final days of Georgia’s Republican primary campaigns have exposed internal party fault lines, produced unusual alliances and will test the party’s ability to consolidate quickly to match Democrats’ head start on the general election campaign. The melee, including last-minute endorsements from President Donald Trump and outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp, was on full display Monday ahead of Tuesday’s runoff. Rep. Mike Collins and former football coach Derek Dooley are competing for the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate, while Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and billionaire businessman Rick Jackson are running for governor. Trump and Kemp are aligned behind Jones but split in the Senate race. Top grassroots organizers are divided too. Even Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a former rival to Trump, stepped into the mix on Jackson’s behalf, putting him at odds with the president and governor. “There’s a lot of division in the MAGA world and across the Republican Party,” said Debbie Dooley, an original national tea party organizer who is backing Jones for governor but Dooley for Senate. (She’s not related to the candidate.) “We better get it together after Tuesday.” Kemp insisted there is a common denominator.“Everything I’m doing is to win in November,” he said Monday after campaigning for Jones and Derek Dooley at separate events in metro Atlanta.Kemp has backed Derek Dooley for months in the Senate race, arguing it will take an outsider to defeat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff in November. Yet Kemp campaigned for the first time Monday with Jones, a day after he endorsed the lieutenant governor despite Jackson’s outsider campaign. In the governor’s race, Kemp reasoned that Jones is the right man to defeat Democratic nominee and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Read More Trump, meanwhile, has backed Jones since last August, rewarding him for his loyalty as part of Trump’s alternate Electoral College slate in the 2020 scheme to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential victory. But the president waited until the final weekend to choose Collins over Dooley, with a social media post that noted Dooley has backed Trump’s falsehoods about his loss to Biden. Kemp’s and Trump’s differing courses highlight their complicated relationship — Kemp certified Biden’s electors in 2020 over Trump’s objections — and the results Tuesday will tests both men’s internal party influence as their final terms play out.“I’m not worried about any political equations or keeping score,” Kemp said Monday after campaigning alongside Jones and Dooley at separate morning events. “It’s making sure we have the right people at the top of the ticket.”He also rejected any notion that he was being inconsistent by pushing the Washington outsider in one race and the Georgia statehouse insider in another. The reason, he said, was that Georgia has been controlled by Republicans for more than two decades and, in Kemp’s estimation, is doing well enough that Jones would be “really building off the great legacy” of multiple state administrations. Congress, meanwhile, is a mess of “inaction” with abysmal approval ratings, he said. Dooley, for his part, embraced Kemp’s influence and downplayed Trump’s.“It’s very simple,” he said. “A vote for Mike Collins is a vote for Jon Ossoff. A vote for me is a vote for the people of Georgia.”Jackson likewise downplayed Kemp’s last-minute nod for Jones.“I respect Gov. Kemp very much, and I think people are ready for an outsider,” he said.Cruz was more animated, with an implicit comparison of Jackson to Trump.“He’s rich,” Cruz told Jackson supporters with a smile. And he’s a first-time candidate, the senator continued. “I don’t know anybody like that in politics,” Cruz deadpanned.Debbie Dooley, the conservative activist, noted that erstwhile tea party leaders in the state aren’t on the same page anymore either. While she’s campaigning with Derek Dooley, the founder of Tea Party Patriots, Jenny Beth Martin, has appeared with Collins.“It’s just not as simple as blindly following Trump anymore,” Debbie Dooley said. “I don’t want the most conservative candidate. I want the most conservative candidate who can win.” BILL BARROW Barrow covers U.S. politics for The Associated Press. He is based in Atlanta. twitter mailto

Cape Verde star Ryan Mendes shown teammate Vozinha’s new social media following on live TV, it’s brilliant
Photo by Mattia Ozbot/Getty ImagesVozinha became the face of Cape Verde’s historic World Cup debut against Spain. The 40-year-old goalkeeper made seven saves, including six from inside the box, as Cape Verde earned a 0-0 draw and their first ever point at the tournament against one of the favourite countries to win it.He was named man of the match, but the scale of his new global fame was only made clear when teammate Ryan Mendes saw his Instagram rise on live television.Ryan Mendes stunned by Vozinha’s Instagram explosionPhoto by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesBrazilian journalist Barbara Coelho, from CazeTV, showed Mendes that Vozinha had gone from 56,000 Instagram followers to almost two million after the Spain draw.Coelho explained that CazeTV had helped lead a campaign to boost the goalkeeper’s account after Cape Verde’s heroic performance.Mendes could barely believe the number.“What? He’s going to faint there when he sees that,” he said. The figure has kept rising, too. Vozinha is now recording 2.7 million Instagram followers, turning one clean sheet into a life-changing moment. That reaction carried extra weight because Mendes knows what Vozinha means to Cape Verde. Like the goalkeeper, he is considered one of the country’s greatest ever players.Mendes has 96 caps for Cape Verde, is one of the most talented players the nation has produced, and alongside Vozinha he has long been one of their biggest symbols.Read more:Cape Verde’s hero vs Spain Vozinha opens up on US visa issue that stopped mom attending World CupPunter loses $1,000,000 after Spain fail to win vs Cape Verde in huge World Cup shockChelsea and LA Lakers owner Todd Boehly could complete world-first as $9bn takeover on cards

UFC CEO Dana White rebuffs Josh Hokit's post-UFC White House comments
UFC CEO Dana White rebuffs Josh Hokit's post-UFC White House comments originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Josh Hokit has made it quite well known that he will say and do as he pleases. But his boss, UFC CEO and President Dana White, is not happy about his latest remarks. After Hokit scored a big win vs. fellow heavyweight Derrick Lewis Sunday night at UFC White House - or UFC Freedom 250 - from the lawn of the White House, Hokit made some rather nasty remarks involving former President Barack Obama's wife, Michelle Obama.White, always one to state the importance of freedom of speech, actually did not support it this time."I understand that the Obama's are public figures but I'm completely against saying nasty and false things about people's families," White said in a statement to TIME Magazine. "Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense."Not the first time Josh Hokit has come under fireHokit immediately went to President Donald Trump at Octagon-side after finishing Lewis, putting a chain with a card of himself around his neck. The event was held in collaboration with the United States turning 250 years old and Trump's birthday. This is far from the first time Hokit has upset the brass, doing so with comments made about Brittney Griner, a WNBA star, earlier this year. Darwin Nunez to Liverpool? Fresh update emerges on shock return claim
Darwin Nunez to Liverpool? Fresh update emerges on shock return claimDarwin Nunez has been linked with a sensational return to Liverpool.Reports had claimed that the move would not be confirmed yet as Nunez is focused on representing Uruguay at the World CupJournalist Fabrizio Romano has now debunked the reports, stating that there have been no negotiation between Nunez’s representatives and the Reds.He said on his YouTube channel: “My information is that those close to Darwin and those close to Darwin’s camp deny this information. They say there’s nothing ongoing with Nunez and Liverpool.”Nunez left Liverpool for Saudi Pro-League side Al Hilal last summer, three years after his blockbuster move from Benfica. The 26-year-old struggled at Liverpool, scoring just 40 goals in 143 appearances across all competitions. While the Reds are looking at bolstering their attack this summer, a move for Nunez would be surprising.Liverpool exploring other attacking optionsLiverpool want to sign at least two forwards this summer’s tranfer window following Mohamed Salah’s departure and the long-term injury to Hugo Ekitike.RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande is their priority target. The Ivorian is considered a perfect replacement for Salah and his attributes will complement Alexander Isak.Diomande enjoyed a great season at Leipzig, emerging as one of the best forwards in Europe. He also starred in Ivory Coast’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador in their World Cup opener.Arsenal and Manchester United are also in the race for the 19-year-old. Leipzig are reluctant to sell, but could listen to offers in excess of €100 million.Liverpool are also considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, although a deal is unlikely until after the World Cup.

Kansas State Football – 4* Defensive Back Joshua Vilmael Commits to the Wildcats!

Joshua chose Kansas State over numerous high-major offers. He took an official visit to North Carolina earlier this month and had a visit set with Florida State this weekend before pulling the trigger on his K-State offer after his official visit to Manhattan. Helping the Wildcats secure his commitment was his brother, incoming freshman defensive Josiah Vilmael, a highly regarded commit from the 2026 class.BioPosition: Defensive BackHeight: 6’2”Weight: 185Hometown: Richmond, TexasHigh School: William B. I am particularly intrigued by the possibility of having a Vilmael family reunion on the field at corner. Listing the starting corners as J. Vilmael and leaving it at that saves me a few seconds of typing.Joshua has all the physical attributes this coaching staff covets. He’s got a lanky frame (listed anywhere from 6’ 1.5’ – 6’3”), speed to burn, and isn’t afraid to get physical at the line of scrimmage. Remember, if you can’t tackle on the outside, you can’t play in Jordan Peterson’s defense; that shouldn’t be a problem .This is shaping up to be one of the best recruiting classes, on paper, in Kansas State history. It currently ranks 2nd in the Big 12 and 30th nationally, with a few more high-quality recruits set to commit this week. If this coaching staff executes as well in games as it does in recruiting, this could be a fun stretch of football for the Wildcats. Potentially, a long, fun stretch with Coach Klein ensconced in Manhattan long-term.

Australian VAR referee Evans denies 'far right' hand gesture
Australian Shaun Evans has denied he intentionally made a hand gesture used by white supremacists in a clip of the VAR officials prior to Germany’s match against Curacao match on Sunday.Evans appeared to make an upside-down ‘OK’ symbol with his right hand as the broadcast feed cut to the ‘meet the team’ section for the VARs before kick-off.The gesture is used in the completely harmless school-yard ‘circle game’, but has also been used by far-right supporters and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) added it to a list of hate symbols in 2019.FIFA is understood to be seeking answers from Evans as to why he made the gesture, although the governing body subsequently said no evidence of any disciplinary code breaches had been established. The Fare network, which combats inequality and discrimination in football, has nevertheless called for the Australian official to be sent home.Evans issued a statement on Monday maintaining any movement he made “was an involuntary, subconscious twitch” of which he was “unaware” he had done at the time.“I would like to clarify that I did not intentionally make a hand gesture or symbol to communicate a message, affiliation, game or belief of any kind,” Evans said.“The only explanation I can offer is that the movement was an involuntary, subconscious twitch and I was unaware I had done it at the time.“Images taken later during the match showed that I repeated this movement many times while holding a pen between my fingers.”Evans added: “The coverage following this incident simply does not reflect who I am.“Of course, I understand how the gesture has been interpreted and I regret this, however I want to be very clear and categorically say that I did not knowingly or deliberately make the hand symbol suggested.“Officiating at the World Cup is the biggest honour of my career and I look forward to supporting my colleagues for the rest of the tournament.”In all matches up to and including this one, officials had stood facing towards the camera when the feed cut to the VAR hub in Dallas. In the games that followed it, the VAR teams were shown at work, facing their screens. FIFA has not commented on why this change was made.Following on from Evans’ statement, the governing body said: “FIFA’s independent disciplinary committee can confirm that, after looking into the matter involving support video assistant referee Shaun Evans, it has found no evidence of breaches of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.“The Disciplinary Committee has also taken note of Mr Evans’ statement.”

Winds batter Shinnecock as US Open practice begins
Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler of the United States stands on the 13th green at Shinnecock as brisk winds blow upon the flag during a practice round for the 126th US Open (Andrew Redington)Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, seeking a career Grand Slam with a victory in this week's 126th US Open, tested himself in windy afternoon conditions Monday as practice began at Shinnecock.Brisk breezes, dense rough, and greens that are lightning-fast despite rain and watering made practice rounds tough for those who braved the 7,440-yard, par-70 layout on eastern Long Island."I wouldn't want to be putting aggressively on these greens," said 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick of England."You have to pick and choose your moments, and that's where course management comes in. You can try to leave it under the hole on some. But with the wind forecast, it's easy for them to get away from you this week and you're going to have to be mindful of that."I want it to get as dry and firm as possible, as US Opens do, and just see where that takes us."Oddsmakers darling Scheffler can become only the seventh golfer to complete a career Grand Slam with a victory on Sunday, his 30th birthday. The American is a four-time major winner and this is his first chance at completing the Slam after winning last year's British Open and PGA Championship.Scheffler played an early afternoon practice round on the back nine with compatriots Brian Harman, Marek Fleming and Chris Gotterup and is set for a Tuesday tour of the front side with South Korean Kim Si-woo and Americans Sam Burns and Gary Woodland.Wyndham Clark, the 2023 US Open champion, decided against going out Monday."This wind is not the normal wind, so if there's any time to take a day off, it was today," he said. "Wind is always a challenge here and that's kind of what everyone talks about."The greens, however, offer the toughest test, Clark said."The biggest challenge at Shinnecock is the greens. "If you can eliminate the three-putts or leaving yourself really challenging putts, I think that's the person that's going to have the most success."You're just going to have to handle the punches that Shinnecock is going to give you and stay really patient out here."Defending champion JJ Spaun checked out drone footage of the course."The one thing you don't realize is how much more undulation and rolling hills and perched greens there are around Shinnecock," he said. Toby Collyer could be heading back to former club
Toby Collyer could be heading back to former club With plans to strengthen multiple areas of the squad, Manchester United will need to raise significant cash through player sales.Unlike the Glazer regime, INEOS have been smart when it comes to moving players on, as evidenced by their tactics in the last two summers. But now, it is time for them to be ruthless, and that includes discarding academy graduates who are unlikely to make an immediate impact for the Red Devils.Radek Vitek is one who could leave, and given his form for Bristol City, United should try to earn a substantial fee.Toby Collyer: loan spells did not work outAnother player who is generating interest from both the Premier League and the Championship is Toby Collyer. The 22-year-old was a favourite of former United boss Erik ten Hag, who trusted him more than Casemiro. Previous head coach Ruben Amorim was also a fan, but it was decided that a loan would be best for his continued development. He joined West Bromwich Albion on a short-term basis, and while there were moments of magic, injuries hampered his stay at the Hawthorns and United felt the midfielder needed a change of scenery. The United academy graduate was subsequently sent to Hull City, but injuries meant the Englishman managed only one start before he returned to Old Trafford to continue his rehabilitation.Hull remain interested in Toby CollyerThe Tigers are keen to bring him back to the MKM Stadium, with The Daily Mail reporting that the newly-promoted Premier League side are planning to sit down and discuss terms with United.Manager Sergej Jakirović feels Toby Collyer is ready to make an immediate mark in the Premier League, and a full pre-season with his new teammates could help him explode.“They would like to discuss a deal with Manchester United for Toby Collyer, who they had on loan at the end of last season.“It is felt the 22-year-old would benefit from a full pre-season, and develop into a midfielder capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.”Will Toby Collyer leave permanently or on loan?As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, INEOS are open to letting the former England Under-20 international leave, so Hull could potentially sign him on a permanent basis this time around. His sale will count as pure profit, all the more reasons for INEOS to sanction a sale. However, it must also be remembered that Michael Carrick needs legs in midfield after the departures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte.Whether Toby Collyer gets his chance to impress Carrick or whether he is let go will be interesting to see. One thing is for certain: the youngster needs game time one way or the other.Feature image Vasili Mihai-Antonio via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Julia Roberts delivers beautiful tribute to queer mom killed by ICE agent
LGBTQ+ ally, actress Julia Roberts, delivered a beautiful tribute to Renee Nicole Good — the 37-year-old queer mother of three in Minneapolis, Minnesota, whose killing by a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer last January began a national outcry against the current president’s anti-immigrant regime — while talking at Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment. The event, held at The Town Hall in New York City, was an occasion “for people around the country to stand up to authoritarian shifts threatening our democracy today,” according to Broadway World. Roberts spoke alongside other allies like Jane Fonda, Bette Midler, and Joy Reid and alongside LGBTQ+ entertainers such as sexually fluid actress Tessa Thompson, gay musician Rufus Wainwright, gay actor Wilson Cruz, transgender Drag Race alumn Peppermint, and queer Native American actor Lily Gladstone. The event’s ticket sales and donations benefitted the Committee for the First Amendment, an advocacy collective relaunched by Jane Fonda that seeks to defend free expression against government repression, industry complicity, and intimidation. Related Stonewall veteran busts myths: It wasn’t about Judy Garland, it was “a revolution” “Renee Nicole Good is not a symbol,” Roberts said at the event. “She is an American woman, a queer woman who was doing the very best she could do to be good in an unjust world.” “I am honored to celebrate her life and her legacy tonight,” Roberts added, “because the life she gave is our responsibility to carry.” Roberts then read the poem “For Renee Nicole Good Killed by I.C.E. on January 7, 2026,” written by Amanda Gorman, the first U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate. Change is only possible, & all the greater, When the labour & bitter anger of our neighbors Is moved by the love & better angels of our nature. What they call death & void, We know is breath & voice; In the end, gorgeously, Endures our enormity. You could believe departed to be the dawn When the blank night has so long stood. But our bright-fled angels will never be fully gone, When they forever are so fiercely Good. Julia Roberts: Renee Nicole Goode is not a symbol. But what was most heartbreaking and most enraging at the time about the murders was how unsurprising they were to me as a Black American.” “There is a kind of bone-tired exhaustion in fighting the battles that we have fought so many times before, in insisting time and time again, generation after generation, that people have the right to exist, even if they speak out against the state…. but the people had the power to protect one another, and the people refused to let Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s murders intimidate them into inaction,” Thompson added. “The collective became the hope. That community care is why my reservoir of optimism has not yet run dry. I felt it then, and I feel it now in this room together tonight,” she concluded. “So, it’s our job, even and especially in the face of despair, to keep that hope alive.” Tessa Thompson: As a Black American, there is a kind of bone-tired exhaustion in fighting the battles that we have fought so many times before, and insisting time and time again, generation after generation, that people have the right to exist even if they speak out against the… pic.twitter.com/YamICejDx1— Acyn (@Acyn) June 15, 2026 Gladstone also expressed similar feelings of exhaustion, albeit from a Native American perspective. “For many Americans, this era of division, of stolen speech, broken promises, families torn apart, of risking all you have for the simple right to exist as you are, this may feel unprecedented. You may think, ‘How did we get here?'” Gladstone said. “For the First Peoples of this land, unfortunately, this has been ongoing since the birth of this country as we know it today. So, perhaps the question then is not, ‘How did we get here?’ It’s, ‘How are we still here?’ and maybe more importantly, ‘How do we move forward?'” Gladstone: You may think, “How did we get here?”For the First Peoples of this land, unfortunately, this has been ongoing since the birth of this country as we know it today. So perhaps the question then is not, “How did we get here?” It’s, “How are we still here?” pic.twitter.com/f2vtgQ1bR7— Acyn (@Acyn) June 14, 2026 Speaking about the current presidential administration’s removal of rainbow crosswalks nationwide (but particularly in San Antonio, Texas), Cruz said, “When the governor of Texas [Republican Greg Abbott] clicked his little boot spurs and had all the rainbow crosswalks painted over, activists grabbed their brushes and painted the sidewalks instead, because that’s what we do.” “It goes to show: if you lower our flags, we will raise them back up, baby. Trans children who should be living openly in their truth are intimidated by a government that cares more about censoring their bodies than feeding them. A government more concerned with what school sports they can play than whether or not those very schools are properly funded.” “These attacks on the trans community, they serve as a distraction from the immense hoarding of wealth and resources by billionaires and now trillionaires, a distraction from the failures of this government to protect its people instead of harming them, and these discriminatory attacks on the trans community also distract us from the very lopsided rate of anti-trans violence and murder that way too many trans people have fallen victim to,” she continued. Peppermint said that 11 trans people have been murdered in the past three months in the U.S. country, adding, “and I’ve not seen a single word about it on the news.” “I grew up during a time when transness wasn’t recognized or talked about, and yet here I am, baby,” she said, “having experienced things most people, let alone trans people, don’t get to experience. All of us shown the door for just doing our jobs, standing up to the administration, and in my case also for speaking out against the genocide.” She continued, “Don Lemon arrested, Georgia Fort arrested, Terry Moran fired from ABC, Scott Pelley fired from CBS by the clique of far-right ideologues who bought it and handed it over to a zealot named Bari Weiss, who may … soon also control CNN.” “Pelley, one of the most trusted voices in news from what was the most trusted news program in America. 60 Minutes, he told The New York Times, and I quote, ‘CBS News is on fire.’ …But as excited as I am to be on this stage, I also understand the stakes in the assignment, because the threat is not coming, friends — it is here.” Joy Reid: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert fired after more than 30 years because a certain orange asshole, whose name is no longer on the Kennedy Center, can’t take a joke. pic.twitter.com/iDALPqs88M— Acyn (@Acyn) June 15, 2026 Pro-LGBTQ+ children’s entertainer Ms. Rachel spoke out against “thecruel policies of family detention and family separation,” saying ” the American Academy of Pediatrics says, there is no safe amount of time for a child to be in detention.” She met a 10-year-old boy who had been held at the Dilley Immigration Detention Center in southwest Texas. “He was begging for help to get out of what we know is a family prison, a prison that is neglecting, abusing, and traumatizing kids.” Ms. Rachel: As the American Academy of Pediatrics says, there is no safe amount of time for a child to be in detention. Gane And Aspinall Want Rematch In Paris Following UFC Freedom 250
WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 14: (L-R) Ciryl Gane of France is interviewed by Joe ROgan in the UFC interim heavyweight championship fight during the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn at the White House on June 14, 2026 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC)Zuffa LLCHeading into Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 fight card, one of the hot topics was focused on Alex Pereira’s standing among the MMA greats if he managed to defeat Ciryl Gane in the evening’s co-main event. That talk quickly fizzled when Gane stopped Pereira via TKO 97 seconds into their bout. With the stoppage win, the victorious Gane became a two-time interim UFC heavyweight champion. With that, the post-fight talk question became, when and where would Gane fight current UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in a unification bout. At the UFC Freedom 250 press conference, Gane was asked what his perfect scenario for a rematch with Aspinall would look like. “As soon as possible, in Paris is a good idea, but I know, let the staff of the UFC work on it,” said Gane. As for Aspinall, he seemed to like Gane’s thinking. "Paris in September, eh? I’ll do that," Aspinall said in a video posted on Instagram. "You're up for it? I'll do that. Let me know. I don't mind. I'll go to Paris. I'll be there. Ciryl Gane in Paris – let's go. Let's go. I'm back to training now – literally right now."Aspinall and Gane first met at UFC 321 in October. That fight, which took place in Abu Dhabi, was for Aspinall’s UFC crown. The bout ended prematurely after an eye pokes left Aspinall unable to continue. The matchup was ruled a no contest at 4:35 of the first round. Aspinall underwent surgery to both his eyes, enduring procedures in January and February. In early April, Aspinall resumed training. The UFC has held four fight cards in Paris, with each of those bouts being Fight Night events, not numbered fight cards. This year’s visit, scheduled for September 5 at Accor Arena is expected to also be a Fight Night affair. No fights have been officially announced for the card. Pereira entered UFC Freedom 250 as a former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight champion. Had he won the interim heavyweight title to become a three-division promotional champ, UFC CEO Dana White said of Pereira, "If he wins the third world title that night, he jumps over Jon Jones and becomes the greatest of all time.”When Pereira and Gane entered the Octagon on Sunday, both fighters were listed at -110, making the bout a pick ‘em. In the second round, Gane landed 31 of his 41 significant strikes attempts and scored the only knockdown of the fight before referee Herb Dean waved off the affair. Pereira landed a single punch in the second stanza.Gane is a two-time interim champ. He failed to unify the titles in January 2022 when then-champ Francis Ngannou beat him via decision at UFC 270. Gane had a second crack at the undisputed championship in March 2023. He lost that fight to Jon Jones via first-round submission. Jones claimed the vacant title with that win. Gane is 3-0-0-1 since the Jones fight.Aspinall won the interim UFC heavyweight belt in November 2023 with a knockout of Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. He defended the interim title in July 2024 with a KO of Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall was promoted to undisputed champion in June 2025 when Jones announced his retirement. The Gane matchup was his first attempt at defending that crown. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Detroit Tigers Scratch Troy Melton from Monday’s Start Due to Injury
The Detroit Tigers were dealt another injury concern on Monday as right-hander Troy Melton was scratched from his scheduled start against the Houston Astros.According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Melton was removed from the lineup due to what he described as “general back tightness.” The late change came just hours before Detroit opened its three-game series at Daikin Park. The timing is particularly unfortunate for both Melton and the Tigers. The 25-year-old has been one of the bright spots in Detroit’s injury-riddled pitching staff this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.81 ERA and 1.013 WHIP across his first four starts of 2026. In 25.2 innings, Melton has allowed opponents little room to breathe while helping stabilize a rotation that has dealt with multiple setbacks.Detroit has already been without several key pitchers at various points this season, including Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Justin Verlander, and Reese Olson. While Skubal has returned and Verlander is working his way back, the last thing the Tigers needed was another question mark in their rotation. At this point, the severity of Melton’s back issue remains unknown. The Tigers will likely provide additional updates in the coming days as they determine whether the injury will force him to miss additional time.

VAR official says hand gesture was 'involuntary, subconscious twitch'
Video assistant referee Shaun Evans says an 'OK' sign hand gesture was "an involuntary, subconscious twitch" after he was cleared by a Fifa investigation.Evans said that he was "unaware" of making the hand movement and denied "intentionally" attempting to "communicate a message, affiliation, game or belief of any kind".The Australian could be seen making the fingers of his right hand into a upside down 'OK' sign when Fifa cut to a shot of the VAR team at the referee hub in Dallas before Germany's 7-1 win over Curacao on Sunday.Such a gesture has two very distinct meanings - one harmless and the other connected to an expression of white supremacy.World governing body Fifa said after looking into the matter that it found "no evidence of breaches of the Fifa Disciplinary Code".The incident was immediately subject to a huge amount of speculation on social media."The coverage following this incident simply does not reflect who I am," Evans said in a statement issued by Fifa."Of course, I understand how the gesture has been interpreted and I regret this, however I want to be very clear and categorically say that I did not knowingly or deliberately make the hand symbol suggested."Evans is available for selection for the rest of the tournament.'No evidence of breaches of the Fifa disciplinary code'Fifa issued a short statement to confirm an investigation had been carried out but that the official would face no action. The 38-year-old Evans went on to explain that video evidence from the VAR room proved that he had made involuntary movements."Images taken later during the match showed that I repeated this movement many times while holding a pen between my fingers," he said."Officiating at the World Cup is the biggest honour of my career and I look forward to supporting my colleagues for the rest of the tournament."Before matches during the World Cup, Fifa has been briefly focusing on the officials as part of its world feed global coverage.First, the referee, and the rest of his team, have walked to the touchline and a graphic has been displayed with their names and roles. Then the picture has cut to a shot of the VAR team at the referee hub in Dallas.Rather than showing them at work and looking at their monitors, they have also briefly posed for the camera and their names have appeared on screen. When the camera cut to the VAR room on Sunday, Evans was standing with his arm by his side - and then could be seen making the fingers of his right hand into a upside down 'OK' sign. There was a noticeable change in approach for pre-match rituals after the Germany-Curacao game. When the VAR hub was shown in subsequent matches, the officials were already facing the monitors. Xavier Legette tells harsh truth about future with Carolina Panthers
One of the NFL’s most beloved personalities is Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette. His charming country accent, colorful descriptions of Southern cuisine, and love for horses have made him a fan favorite. However, Legette knows his on-field production must match his popularity off the field. Doing so would not only benefit his career but also help the Panthers win games.Speaking with reporters, Legette offered an honest assessment of his 2025 season. He acknowledged the disappointment surrounding his performance and understands what he must do in 2026.MORE: Former 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith’s friend describes his final moments“My main thing is just to have a better year than my first two years,” Legette said Thursday. “I can’t have another year like I did last year. I can’t do that.”Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette during pregame warmups against the Dallas Cowboys at Bank of America Stadium. | Jim Dedmon-Imagn ImagesThat harsh reality creates uncertainty about his future in Carolina. Next offseason, the Panthers must decide whether to exercise his fifth-year option.Legette understands that his first two NFL seasons have not gone as planned. If anyone is putting pressure on him, it’s himself.MORE: Expansion coming soon? He has prototypical size, outstanding speed, and elite athleticism. While his rookie production in 2024 was modest, he showed flashes of the potential that made him a first-round selection. He followed his rookie season of 49 catches and nearly 500 receiving yards with a disappointing sophomore campaign, as his production declined across the board. Despite those struggles, Legette remains an easy player to root for. Will Legette finally make the leap in Year 3?

Katie Blackburn on why the Bengals kept Duke Tobin and Zac Taylor
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and director of player personnel Duke Tobin talk during practice at the Paycor Stadium practice field in downtown Cincinnati on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025. | Sam Greene/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Katie Blackburn sat down with local members of the media on Monday to discuss what’s been a momentous offseason for the Cincinnati Bengals. One of the topics discussed was why the Bengals decided to keep both Zac Taylor and Duke Tobin in their respective positions as head coach and de facto general manager.“We think they deserve another opportunity to prove that we can do what we hope we can do,” Blackburn said via Paul Dehner of The Athletic. After three straight seasons of missing the playoffs, the Bengals were aggressive in adding talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball. While Tobin and Taylor may have kept their jobs this year, the organization is expecting a return to the playoffs in 2026.“We obviously are hoping to have a successful season this year. I know they want to do that as much as I want to do that. I can’t predict anything into the future, but we’re certainly counting on, right now, having a good season and going from there,” she said.If there is a fourth straight season of missing the playoffs after the additions to this defense, I would imagine a major staff overhaul would be in the works. It’s no secret that Taylor’s seat is about as hot as it is for any NFL coach. For now, that is not a conversation the front office or this fanbase wants to hear. The expectations are not only a return to the playoffs, but for a deep run in those playoffs.
