SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTop NBA free-agent power forwards: Yes, Draymond Green could be at the top of the marketIf you are looking for major impact … power forward is not where it’s at. Still there are some useful players and storylines on the free-agent landscape.Let’s break down the top power forwards who could be available on this year's free agent market. (Note: Positions are determined off Basketball-Reference's positional breakdowns, meaning a player will be listed at the position in which he played the most minutes.)Free-agent position rankings: Point guards | Shooting guards | Small forwards1. Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors Status: Player optionValue of option: $27.6 millionGreen as the featured power forward in this free-agent class is, well, something. The 36-year-old is declining, and rapidly, but he holds specific value to the Warriors as one of the main two-way cogs in that machine. His relationship with Stephen Curry is also valued within the organization, meaning Green's own value is very much tied to the Warriors, instead of the open market. That said, Green does give a team consistent defensive pressure, a high on-court IQ and crucial playmaking from the four-spot. He's gone four straight seasons of hitting over 30% from behind the 3-point line, which is also worth mentioning, even if the scale is low. What makes sense: Picking up the option seems wise, unless the Warriors offer an extension worth substantially more than what he's currently slated to receive. 2. Jonathan Kuminga, Atlanta Hawks Status: Team optionValue of option: $24.3 millionIt finally happened. Kuminga and the Warriors split. The 23-year-old is now in Atlanta, where he will attempt to break out as an All-Star, with the organization holding significant control of his current contract. This upcoming season will be a huge one for Kuminga, as he'll try to play his way into a raise, unless, of course, the Hawks decline his option, which seems far-fetched at this stage. What makes sense: Expect the Hawks to retain Kuminga. 3. John Collins, Los Angeles ClippersStatus: Unrestricted free agentAfter Collins enjoyed two good years in Utah, the Clippers somehow brought him back down to Earth by giving him inconsistent minutes and an odd role, all while failing to understand how to properly utilize him. Unfortunately for Collins, this will hurt his market. Fortunately for a team out there that understands how to utilize him, Collins' suppressed market will benefit its chances of making a real upgrade. He hit over 55% of his shots, including over 40% from long range, and is a genuine lob threat and pick-and-pop option. What makes sense: The Spurs should give him a look in order to inject more offense into their rotation, but the price point will be tricky. Collins could land in the non-tax MLE area, or possibly lower if the market squeezes him out. 4. Tobias Harris, Detroit PistonsStatus: Unrestricted free agent Harris spent two productive years in Detroit and might even stick around, as the organization won 60 games this season and returned to relevance. Whether he opts to return or go somewhere else remains to be seen, but odds are good the 33-year-old will get a decent deal.Plenty of teams could use an off-ball, spot-up shooting wing big who can do a bit of everything. Harris likely won't break the bank, but it's also unlikely he comes at a discount. What makes sense: Harris should have a market, and the non-tax MLE area feels about right, albeit for three years as opposed to four. 5. Rui Hachimura Status: Unrestricted free agentThe 28-year-old wing big was one of the league's best shooters last season (44.3% from long range), and his 6-foot-8 frame makes that extra interesting for teams that wish to add floor-spacing without relinquishing size. While Hachimura isn't a strong defender, his 230-pound frame does allow for some paint protection, which means he can play big minutes. This could be interesting for teams trying to make a deep run in the postseason. What makes sense: An even $15 million per year would be fitting, but shooters get paid, so expect some extra mustard on that deal.Best of the rest 6. Harrison Barnes, San Antonio SpursStatus: Unrestricted free agent From a production perspective, Barnes has been better. But his veteran leadership, ability to optimize his own shot selection and defensive knack remain. This should have value to several teams, including his current teeam.7. Khris Middleton, Dallas Mavericks Status: Unrestricted free agent There's no denying that current-day Middleton is a far cry from the prime version. Injuries and age have turned him into a role player, as opposed to a two-way star. But that doesn't mean he can't be effective.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 20 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL supplemental draft: Rules, date, history, notable players taken and Brendan Sorsby's eligibilitySince 1977, the NFL has had the ability to run two different drafts every single year. There's the NFL Draft, the one everyone knows — the one that saw the Las Vegas Raiders select quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the top overall pick. And then there's the NFL supplemental draft, which is far less known. Sure, some NFL fans have likely heard about it, but even elite ball-knowers might struggle to fully explain how it works.Well, worry no more, because Yahoo Sports is here to help. With the 2026 NFL supplemental draft fast approaching, here's everything you need to know about the event. What is the NFL supplemental draft? The NFL supplemental draft is a secondary draft held each year that includes players who — for whatever reason — lost their college eligibility after the deadline to enter the regular NFL Draft. Those players were maybe caught up in some of the transfer drama or faced legal or academic issues during the year that preclude them from their remaining NCAA eligibility. When is the NFL supplemental draft? The NFL supplemental draft does not have an exact date, but it usually occurs over the summer, often months after the NFL Draft takes place. How does the NFL supplemental draft work?In order for a player to be eligible for the supplemental draft, they need to apply for eligibility and have their eligibility approved by the NFL. If there are players eligible for a supplemental draft, the NFL holds it that year. If no players are eligible for the supplemental draft in a given year, the league does not hold a supplemental draft.NFL supplemental draft orderIn the instance where players are eligible, NFL teams are sorted into tiers to determine the supplemental draft order. Teams with six or fewer wins make up one category, the non-playoff teams make up the second and the playoff teams make up the third. The NFL then uses a lottery system to order those teams within their tiers, so the teams with the worst records — like the regular NFL Draft — would have the best odds at picking near the top of the supplemental draft.Once the draft order is determined, teams can bid future draft picks if they want to select a player. For example, if the Cleveland Browns wanted to pick a player in the 2026 supplemental draft, they could bid a 2027 second-round pick on that player. If they win that particular player, the Browns would receive his draft rights, but forfeit their second-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. In the instance where two teams submit the same bid on the same player, the team with the better draft order would win that player's services. How many players have been taken in the NFL supplemental draft? There's a reason even the most elite ball-knowers don't know much about the supplemental draft. Since it was first put into effect back in 1977, only 46 players have been picked in the supplemental draft. The last player to be selected in the supplemental draft came back in 2019, when the Arizona Cardinals used a fifth-round pick to take safety Jalen Thompson that year. Some of the players selected in the supplemental draft wind up doing very little in the NFL. Others have become Pro Football Hall of Famers.Notable players selected in the NFL supplemental draftOne Hall of Famer and seven Pro Bowlers started their NFL careers as supplemental draft picks. Cris Carter is the lone Hall of Famer to come out of the supplemental draft. He was ineligible for the regular NFL Draft after prematurely signing with an agent. He was picked up in the supplemental draft in 1987 by the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth-round pick. The following players all reached the Pro Bowl at least once in their careers after coming out of the supplemental draft:• Bernie Kosar, Cleveland Browns quarterback, first-round pick• Bobby Humphrey, Denver Broncos running back, first-round pick• Rob Moore, New York Jets wide receiver, first-round pick• Mike Wahle, Green Bay Packers offensive lineman, second-round pick• Jamal Williams, San Diego Chargers nose tackle, second-round pick• Ahmad Brooks, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker, third-round pick• Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns wide receiver, second-round pickThere is a pretty significant exception to the above list. In 1984, the NFL held a special supplemental draft for players who had already signed with USFL or CFL teams. Three future Hall of Famers came out of that class, including Steve Young, Reggie White and Gary Zimmerman. Ten other players taken in that 1984 supplemental draft went on to make the Pro Bowl during their NFL careers. Is Brendan Sorsby eligible for the 2026 NFL supplemental draft? For a while, it was complicated. In early June, Sorsby had not applied for eligibility for the 2026 NFL supplemental draft. His college eligibility was in limbo after Sorsby was found to have gambled on college football games.Shortly after the 2026 NFL Draft, Sorsby was deemed ineligible during the 2026 college football season. But that changed in June, as Sorsby was granted an injunction, allowing him to play for Texas Tech in 2026.With the situation very up in the air thanks to an NCAA appeal, Sorsby reportedly decided to apply for the supplemental draft on Monday, June 15. The NFL reportedly set a deadline of June 22 for players hoping to apply for eligibility in the 2026 supplemental draft, so Sorsby made his decision a few days before the deadline.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 20 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKimmich hails Brown and Nmecha, warns over Ivory Coast's "exceptional" DiomandeKimmich hails Brown and Nmecha, warns over Ivory Coast's "exceptional" DiomandeGermany national team star Joshua Kimmich has praised both Nathaniel Brown and Felix Nmecha ahead of their next Group E game against Côte d'Ivoire. “Generally he's [Brown] a very quiet guy off the pitch. He's always in a group with Assan and Pavlo. On the pitch he's very brave and brings his qualities," he said at a press conference.“He hasn't asked me yet about FC Bayern. But I'm happy that we have him here. He played a great game on Sunday with a goal and an assist,” he added, before moving onto Nmecha.“I already said before the tournament that he is one of the most talented players we have. He is very fast, robust, and his goal [against Curaçao] was exceptional. “He also had many other notable moments in the game. He gives us a lot and can also defend well,” the German captain said of the Dortmund midfielder.Meanwhile, the 31-year-old kept an eye on their upcoming opposition. One familiar name in the Ivorian ranks is Yan Diomande, whom Kimmich highlighted as a serious threat. “A year ago, hardly anyone knew him. He's had a great season, even though RB Leipzig had a few problems. His dribbling is exceptional, a bit like Kingsley Coman at Bayern back in the day.“He's got incredible pace. But there are other good players we have to prepare for. They have spectacular attacking players,” he concluded, ahead of this Saturday's 21:00 CET showdown.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 20 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMU.S. Open 2026: The Jordan Spieth experience is underway after almost smoking someone in the head during range sessionThere’s never a dull day in the world of Jordan Spieth. The three-time major-winning master of disaster has become infamous for getting himself in (and out) of tight spots over the years. That tendency is amplified at the U.S. Open, where the brutal setups turn even golf’s most conservative players into scrambling lunatics. Not to be outdone, Spieth jumpstarted the “Jordan Spieth Experience” during his range session at Shinnecock on Monday, nearly smoking a random passerby in the head with an errant shot. Take it away, Jordan.RELATED: Your vibes-only guide to the top 41 contenders at Shinnecock Hills“37, three-degree cut—OH GOD!” Spieth was seen saying by cameras trained on his range bay, perhaps in anticipation of this very thing. “Jesus,” the 2015 U.S. Open champ continued, slumping forward in relief. “Dude, that almost smoked him in the head … I started looking down and he’s walking right at that ball. Wooo!”Classic Spieth, but in his defense, the northerly wind on Monday prompted many pros to abandon their practce rounds entirely. Shinnecock, which was designed with its location’s persistent southwestern blow in mind, becomes virtually unplayable when the wind shifts to the north. Needless to say, if you’re headed out to the tournament this week, make sure to keep your head on swivel, especially if you hear “now driving … JORDAN SPIETH!”RELATED: Tee times and pairings for the first and second round at Shinnecock Hills0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 20 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

When the two sides walk out at Headingley on Wednesday, June 17, it will mark the first-ever Women's T-20 International meeting between them. India will be looking to continue their winning momentum, while the Netherlands are desperate to get their campaign back on track. On paper, India hold a clear advantage. They are led by Harmanpreet Kaur, and comes in confident mood after a commanding 64-run victory over Pakistan. They have a powerful batting lineup and an experienced bowling attack and will aim to secure another convincing win as they strengthen their push for a place in the semifinals. The Netherlands, meanwhile, enter the fixture with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Captain Babette de Leede will be hoping her side can bounce back from their opening defeat to Bangladesh and showcase the fighting spirit that has helped the Dutch emerge as one of the fastest-rising associate nations in women's cricket. While experience and rankings favour India, World Cups have a habit of producing surprises. Both teams will be eager to ensure they come out on the right side of this first-ever meeting.India vs. Netherlands Prediction: Who Will Win?India head into this contest as overwhelming favourites, armed with a world-class squad and far greater experience on the international stage. Their batting lineup is packed with match-winners, with the aggressive opening pair capable of putting opponents under pressure from the very first over. The Netherlands do possess the bowling resources to make things competitive, particularly through their spin attack, which has shown the ability to control the flow of runs and create opportunities in the middle overs. However, containing India's explosive batting unit for a full 20 overs will be a daunting task, especially at Headingley, where batters can quickly take control once they get settled.India's bowling attack also gives them a significant advantage. The variety and discipline within the unit allow them to strike early and maintain pressure throughout the innings, making them well-equipped to exploit English conditions and restrict opposition scoring. The Netherlands will be hoping to pull off a major upset under Babette de Leede's leadership, but the challenge is immense. India's superior depth, big-match experience, and the confidence gained from their recent victory make them the clear favourites heading into this historic encounter.Barring something extraordinary, India are expected to continue their winning run and take another important step towards the semifinals.Bet Now: Get 200% deposit match up to INR 20,000 when you sign up with Dafabet!IND vs. NED Pitch Report: Headlingly Cricket Ground, LeedsHeadingley provides the perfect stage for this unique encounter. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMCity forced to scrap Rainbow Arch project due to Ron DeSantis’s anti-DEI lawThe city of Key West, Florida, has been forced to end a Pride-themed art initiative due to the state’s anti-DEI law. On Friday, the Key West Business Guild wrote on social media that the city attorney had “confirmed what many feared and sadly what we anticipated: Florida’s new Senate Bill 1134 effectively ended the Rainbow Arch project before it could even begin.” Related Ron DeSantis declares June “Faith & Family Month” to honor “Christian faith” & “Biblical” families The city launched the project in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) crusade against rainbow crosswalks throughout the state. After DeSantis’ wrath against LGBTQ+ people reached Key West and included his administration painting over a rainbow crosswalk in the dead of night, city officials proposed replacing the symbol of inclusion with a large rainbow arch downtown, declaring, “All Are Welcome Here.” But according to the Business Guild, the city attorney said the project was against state law “because its purpose was to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the freedom of LGBTQ+ people to live openly and authentically.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today In April, DeSantis signed S.B. 1134, which bans local governments from using taxpayer dollars to fund or promote DEI efforts. The bill defines DEI as any effort to “promote or adopt training, programming or activities designed or implemented with reference to race, color, sex, ethnicity, gender identity or sexual orientation,” but it includes exceptions for events or programs related to federal holidays or individuals and groups honored by monuments, memorials, and museums authorized by state law. The law – described by Equality Florida senior political director Joe Saunders as “a sledgehammer aimed at cities and counties that dare to recognize and address the diversity of the people they serve” – also allows any city or county resident to sue their local government for perceived violations, while local elected officials could be removed from office. The Guild explained that the arch could not even have been grandfathered in if it were built before the law officially takes effect on January 1, 2027, because it would require ongoing funding from the city to maintain. “Let’s be clear about what this means,” the Guild wrote. “The Rainbow Art project was not canceled because of a lack of community support. It was not canceled due to a lack of funding. It was not canceled because the project was flawed. It was canceled because a new state law targets initiatives associated with diversity, equity, inclusion, and LGBTQ+ visibility.” “For years, the Rainbow Crosswalk and the proposed Rainbow Arch Project represented something bigger than paint, steel, or public art,” the group continued. “They were symbols that told LGBTQ+ residents, visitors, families, and young people that they belong here. That they are welcome here. That they are part of the fabric of our community.” The Guild also emphasized its continued commitment to “equality, visibility, and belonging” and said they are “determined to do everything possible to restore our symbol of visibility and acceptance.” Last July, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy urged governors to remove any political messages, artwork, and markings from intersections that are not directly related to pedestrian or driver safety. He wrote on social media, “Taxpayers expect their dollars to fund safe streets, not rainbow crosswalks.” Later that month, DeSantis signed a law banning “nonstandard surface markings, signage, and signals that do not directly contribute to traffic safety or control can lead to distractions or misunderstandings, jeopardizing both driver and pedestrian safety.” Florida Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue confirmed the true motivation behind the campaign to remove the crosswalk art while praising the law. “Florida’s proactive efforts to ensure we keep our transportation facilities free & clear of political ideologies were cemented into law by @GovRonDeSantis,” Perdue posted to socials. “Great to now have our federal partners also aligned behind this same common-sense policy.” GOP officials claim the crosswalks distract drivers, but data says otherwise. The Bloomberg Philanthropies 2022 Asphalt Art Safety Study found that crashes involving pedestrians or cyclists drop 50% at painted intersections. It also reported a 25% decrease in conflicts between drivers and pedestrians, a 27% increase in drivers immediately yielding to pedestrians, and a 38% decrease in pedestrians crossing when the walk signal was not lit at intersections involving public art. The data also revealed that injuries resulting from crashes drop 37% in painted intersections. He showcased some promise at the tackle spot as he handled bull rushers well with his ability to remain balanced and anchor. The move inside will help him handle speed, but it will also allow him to showcase his strength better in the run game, working up the middle. He has a chance to be a riser at his new position, but for now, we remain on the passive side of the evaluation. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 World Cup: Cape Verde goalie Vozinha up to 8 million Instagram followers after star-making game vs. SpainThe 2026 World Cup is barely underway, and the star of the event may have already emerged. Following a star-making performance against Spain on Monday, Cape Verde goaltender Vozinha has seen his social-media following explode in a major way.Vozinha — who began Monday with roughly 50,000 followers on Instagram — has seen his social-media presence swell to over 8 million followers — and counting — less than 24 hours after Cape Verde’s 0-0 tie with Spain. Vozinha shared one post about his rising follower count Monday … when he had just 1.9 million followers. He may need to update that post after seeing that figure continue to surge in the hours after Cape Verde’s tie. View this post on InstagramVozinha — whose actual name is Josimar Dias — was nicknamed “Vozinha,” or granny in Portuguese, at a young age. The 40-year-old fully embraced that nickname Monday, dominating against players more than half his age while leading Cape Verde to a tie against one of the strongest teams in the World Cup. Vozinha was exceptional during Cape Verde’s tie, making seven saves against a Spain team that was expected to dominate the contest. In addition to Spain being among the favorites to win the 2026 World Cup, Cape Verde was making its World Cup debut. No one expected the team to hang with Spain, let alone play the powerhouse to a tie. Thanks to Vozinha’s performance, Cape Verde stunned the soccer-watching world. Following the win, Vozinha was named Man of the Match. When asked about that honor, the goalie credited his teammates, saying the whole team deserved the award. He’s kept up that energy on Instagram, where he’s posted numerous images and videos of Cape Verde’s tie for his still-rapidly multiplying followers. Following the tie, Cape Verde and Vozinha will look to prove they can repeat that performance in the team’s second World Cup game, which will come against Uruguay on Sunday.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 18 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho is a breakout candidate for the Bucs in 2026?In a recent look at breakout candidates across the NFC, Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports identified Emeka Egbuka as Tampa Bay's top breakout candidate heading into the 2026 season.Pereles pointed to Egbuka's rookie campaign as a season of two very different halves. The former Ohio State standout burst onto the scene early, recording 445 receiving yards and five touchdowns over his first five games. During that stretch, he looked every bit like the first-round talent the Buccaneers believed they were drafting. The production slowed as the season progressed, however. Over Tampa Bay's final 12 games, Egbuka totaled 493 receiving yards and just one touchdown. According to Dajani, drops became a bigger issue during the second half of the season, a surprising development for a receiver whose reliability and consistency were among his biggest strengths coming out of college.Even with the uneven finish, there were plenty of encouraging signs. Egbuka finished his rookie season with 938 receiving yards and six touchdowns while showing an ability to line up across multiple receiver spots. His best performance came against the Seahawks, when he hauled in seven catches for 163 yards and a touchdown while posting a 4.66 yards-per-route-run average. The opportunity in front of him is also significantly different entering 2026. With Mike Evans departing in free agency, Tampa Bay is expected to ask more of Egbuka within the offense. While veteran Chris Godwin Jr. remains an important part of the passing attack, the Buccaneers will likely need Egbuka to take another step as one of quarterback Baker Mayfield's primary targets.Pereles' argument is simple: Egbuka already showed flashes of high-level production as a rookie. If he can eliminate some of the inconsistencies that appeared during the second half of the season, he has the talent and opportunity to emerge as one of Tampa Bay's most productive offensive players in 2026.This article originally appeared on Bucs Wire: CBS Sports names Bucs' Emeka Egbuka as breakout candidate0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

APNEWS.COMGeorgia Republicans are under Trump’s shadow as they choose Senate and governor nomineesGov. Brian Kemp, center left, and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Derek Dooley greet supporters at campaign stop for Dooley at Farmview Market in Madison, Ga., on May 8, 2026. (Arvin Temkar/Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP, File)2026-06-16T11:55:47Z ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Republicans are waging their latest fight over party identity in runoffs Tuesday that decide the nominees to face U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and defend the governor’s office against former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.President Donald Trump is at the center of each contest. In the Senate race, the president made a late endorsement of Rep. Mike Collins, a second-term congressman who calls himself a “MAGA warrior,” over Derek Dooley, a first-time candidate and former football coach who has the backing of outgoing Gov. Brian Kemp.Trump picked his candidate for governor 10 months ago, endorsing Burt Jones, the Georgia lieutenant governor who was part of Trump’s attempt to overturn his 2020 defeat to Joe Biden. In that race, it was Kemp who made a late-hour endorsement, announcing his support for Jones on Sunday. The power of Trump’s endorsement — and Kemp’s — is being tested by billionaire Rick Jackson, whose campaign has spent more than $100 million, mostly out of his own pocket, to win the nomination. Senate contest previews a titanic fall fightGeorgia is key to the national fight for control of Capitol Hill. Ossoff, first elected in the 2020 cycle, is the only Democratic senator running in a state Trump won in 2024; Democrats desperately need to keep his seat if they hope to notch a net gain of four seats they’d need for a majority.Republicans’ choice hinges on a familiar debate over electability, with Dooley, 58, insisting his newcomer status is a benefit. “We have got to get the best candidate to beat Jon Ossoff,” Dooley said Monday in one of his final campaign stops before Tuesday’s polls open. “The Republican Party has not won a Senate race in 10 years. ... We have to learn some lessons from that.” He fleshes out the argument using football metaphors from his lifetime association with the sport. Read More “You’ve got to have somebody who can stay on offense” against Ossoff, Dooley often tells voters. Before becoming a college and NFL coach himself, Dooley hailed from a storied family in Georgia sports lore. His father was legendary University of Georgia football coach Vince Dooley. The younger Dooley also has criticized Collins for a House ethics complaint accusing the congressman of abusing taxpayer money by paying the girlfriend of a former top aide for a congressional job she allegedly did not perform. An initial inquiry yielded a referral of the matter to the House ethics committee.Collins, the son of a congressman, celebrated his endorsement from Trump. But he argues that his record actually makes for the best contrast with Ossoff, especially on immigration, and can attract a broader coalition.“We’ve got a great organization with the right voting record and the right message,” he said during his closing runoff swing.Collins, 58, sponsored the 2025 Laken Riley Act, which requires immigrants accused of certain crimes to be held without bond. The law is named for a Georgia nursing student killed in 2021 by a man who had entered the U.S. illegally. Ossoff voted against the measure before flipping to back it after Trump returned to the White House. Collins also emphasizes his ownership of a trucking company, saying it’s exposed him to the struggles workers and business owners endure. “We must protect Americans first, protect our people, put them first, get the federal government off the backs of hardworking men and women out there,” he said. Whoever wins the nomination will face an immediate campaign finance gap and depend heavily on national GOP resources. By the end of May, neither GOP hopeful had reached $5 million in fundraising and both had less than $2 million on hand. Through late April, the last time Ossoff had to file before his uncontested primary, the senator had raised $60.4 million and had $32.5 million on hand.Gubernatorial primary is a unique challenge for TrumpThe president’s preferred primary candidates have a strong record so far in 2026. But none have faced a self-funded rival with Jackson’s spending power.Jackson, a 71-year-old businessman, amassed a fortune from his company that provides contract healthcare personnel, and he’s used it to blanket television and online platforms with ads. Appealing to hard core Trump supporters, he’s pledged that immigrants in Georgia illegally will be “deported or departed.” He promises a slew of tax cuts. And previewing a potential general election argument, he’s played up his biography as a product of the state foster care system and featured his grandchildren advising him on how to make friendlier ads. Jones, 47, comes from a wealthy family but is running a more modest campaign. Framing himself as a “proven leader,” Jones proposes eliminating Georgia’s state income tax — without detailing how he’d make up the revenue. And he trumpets his presidential seal of approval and time as a University of Georgia football player in the 1990s. As lieutenant governor, Jones pushed legislation that ultimately did not pass but would have disqualified Jackson’s company from receiving taxpayer-funded contracts. Trump did not travel to Georgia to campaign with Jones but he’s given the lieutenant governor a fresh round of social media accolades and called in to a tele-rally during the early voting period. “Burt was strongly committed to my Campaign in 2016, 2020, and 2024, and worked tirelessly to help us WIN. He has been with us from the very beginning,” Trump posted on Truth Social last week.Runoffs for elections chief carry 2028 undertonesGeorgia’s secretary of state election is open for the first time since Trump’s attempts to subvert the 2020 election, famously pressuring outgoing Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find 11,800 votes” to overtake Biden. Raffensberger refused. For his potential successor, Republicans are left to choose between an outright election denier, Vernon Jones, and a state lawmaker, Tim Fleming, who avoids explicitly disputing the president’s 2020 election lies.Jones, a perennial candidate who was once a Democrat, embraced Trump’s “stop the steal” movement and says he stands “with those who believe there was election fraud.” Fleming, who once served as deputy secretary of state, says there were “irregularities” in 2020, a word choice that has become code for Republicans who want neither to ratify nor call out Trump’s errant claims.Democrats will choose between Dana Barrett, a Fulton County commissioner, and Penny Brown Reynolds, a former state judge in Fulton County who also served in the Biden administration as deputy assistant secretary for civil rights for the Department of Agriculture. APNEWS.COMPizza Hut, where sales have lagged with arrival of delivery culture, will be sold for $2.7 billionThis Dec. 15, 2016, file photo shows a Pizza Hut restaurant in New Orleans. (AP Photo/Gerald Herbert, File)2026-06-16T12:24:20Z Pizza Hut, the 68-year-old chain that has long struggled with growing competition and outdated restaurants, will be sold for $2.7 billion by parent company Yum Brands.Yum said Tuesday that the private equity firm LongRange Capital will buy Pizza Hut, excluding the mainland China business, for about $1.5 billion. The mainland China Pizza Hut will be purchased by Yum China Holdings Inc. for approximately $1.2 billion, the company said. China is Pizza Hut’s second-largest market outside the U.S., accounting for 19% of sales.Yum Brands, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell, began to explore its options for Pizza Hut in November. Last year, Yum Brands’ global sales rose 5% but Pizza Hut’s sales fell 2%.In February, Yum Brands announced plans to close 250 U.S. Pizza Hut locations. Pizza Hut had 19,974 restaurants worldwide at the end of last year. “Pizza Hut has long been the weak link in Yum’s portfolio,” Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, wrote Tuesday. “Despite efforts to revitalize the brand and shut underperforming locations, it has become increasingly clear that pushing the division back into growth will require a level of investment and patience that Yum is just not prepared to commit to.” Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, by two brothers who borrowed $600 from their mother to open the store. They chose the name because their sign only had room for eight letters. Read More Pizza Hut’s familiar red roof debuted in 1969 and by 1971 it was the top pizza chain in the world by sales. PepsiCo acquired Pizza Hut in 1977 but spun off its restaurant division — which became Yum Brands — in 1997.By the 1980s, Domino’s was the fastest-growing U.S. pizza company, buoyed by its promise of 30-minute delivery. As carryout and delivery grew in popularity, Pizza Hut was saddled with large, dine-in restaurants. The chain has been further pinched in recent years by the growth of DoorDash, Uber Eats and other restaurant delivery companies which marketed access to a slew of cuisines besides pizza. By selling Pizza Hut, Yum Brands can focus more on its brands with stronger sales, Yum CEO Chris Turner said. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUruguay boss Marcelo Bielsa defends unusual World Cup photo: ‘I’m not a model’The enigmatic Uruguay head coach Marcelo Bielsa, who is affectionately known as “El Loco”, has once again captured attention with his distinctive style, this time through an unconventional official World Cup portrait. The former Leeds boss was pictured looking downwards, rather than into the lens, for the photograph displayed on television screens before matches at the tournament. When pressed about the unusual image following his side’s 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia in Miami on Monday night, the bespectacled 70-year-old offered a characteristically direct explanation."I don’t have to give any explanation, the picture was taken the way it was taken," Bielsa asserted. Uruguay's Maxi Araujo celebrates scoring his side's equaliser against Saudi Arabia (AP)"I’m not a model! There is a limit in terms of what we need to explain. If I’m wearing glasses, why am I wearing glasses? “You look somebody in the eye, why do you do that? There is nothing wrong about wearing glasses or looking into somebody’s eyes or looking down."Bielsa’s comments came after his side fought back to rescue a point in their opening World Cup match after a disappointing first half performance.Saudi Arabia deservedly took the lead in the 41st minute through Abdulelah Al-Amri after Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera spilt a header from a corner.Uruguay needed to find a response after the break and they gradually ramped up the pressure before getting their reward 10 minutes from time.Maximiliano Araujo followed in to fire home after an initial save from Saudi Arabia’s goalkeeper, as Uruguay got back on level terms. The South American side pushed for all three points but had to settle for one after wasting several late chances.Uruguay will return to action on Sunday evening when they take on Cape Verde, who held European champions Spain to a goalless draw on Monday.Uruguay’s final group match will then be against Spain, and is set to take place on Friday 26 June.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrendan Sorsby's realistic worth after this saga comes to a closeThe conversation around Brendan Sorsby has become fairly explosive over the past couple of weeks, and rightfully so. After the betting scandal broke at the end of April, the only conversation that has floated around the quarterback is how bad the betting situation is.There is plenty out there covering the severity of that situation. Now that Sorsby has committed to the NFL's Supplemental Draft and is officially leaving college football, who is he as a quarterback?Sorsby is a career 61 percent thrower over four years and three seasons playing. He played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman before transferring to Cincinnati for the final two years of his career. In 2024, he threw for 2,813 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Fine numbers for a quarterback that has found himself in "first round" conversations. In what turned out to be his final season in college football in 2025, Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Again, from a numbers perspective, he was just fine. Star QB Brendan Sorsby is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, sources tell NFL Network. After legal wrangling about his NCAA eligibility, Sorsby — regarded as a first-round talent — now could be the highest-drafted supplemental pick in decades. pic.twitter.com/ltK1SiWZr4— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) June 16, 2026Some of the things that stand out from his game are that he plays with a fearless mindset. There isn't a throw on the field that he doesn't believe that his arm can't make, and while that is a valuable mindset, it also can get you in trouble. Mechanically, he is a smooth thrower of the football. The ball does truly jump out of his hand, and he can touch every part of the field, which will be attractive at the NFL level. However, his game does require some work on his footwork. He is a player who is a victim of the modern college football game. His footwork is sloppy, and he relies too much on his athleticism to make plays. This is something that worked at Cincinnati, but it is not something that he will be able to get away with in the pros. While understanding that this is a very incomplete analysis of the quarterback, it describes the current state of his game fairly well. He is a gunslinger who has some work to do with his feet, has a 14-21 career record, and he brings a lot of baggage along with him. If Cleveland is truly interested in him, they will be competing with the typical subjects. Teams like New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and maybe a team like Minnesota, which is unsettled at the position. If Cleveland is convinced that Sorsby is their potential future, then the most expensive pick I would exchange in the Supplemental Draft would be a second overall pick. The smart decision would be for the Browns to bid a third-round pick, and that being the max. I'm not totally sold on Sorsby as the player, especially if there are going to be some punishments handed out by the league, which there might be. The lack of winning in college, especially in the Big 12, holds a lot of weight for me.The Browns need to be very smart about this and make a well-educated decision. They have been known to be impulsive in these scenarios in the past. Hopefully, this time is different than all of the rest. This article originally appeared on Browns Wire: Brendan Sorsby's realistic worth after this saga comes to a close0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPWHL draft in Detroit will double as Team USA gold medal reunion, with 5 Olympians up for selectionDETROIT (AP) — The Olympics are long over for Gina Kingsbury, and the now-former Team Canada women’s hockey executive is ready to put aside cross-border rivalries and whatever lingering sting remains from losing to the Americans in February. As GM of the Toronto Sceptres, Kingsbury is looking forward to the opportunity to select from the bumper crop of U.S. talent available in the PWHL draft being held in Detroit on Wednesday.“When I look at the draft, I’m beyond excited for some of these incredible American players that are coming in,” Kingsbury said last week. “Regardless if I had my Canada hat on or not, I think everybody would be very excited to be able to work with these incredible athletes.”The only question is who will be available when the Sceptres are set to pick at No. 8.The newly expanded 12-team PWHL is holding its fourth draft in one of its new markets. And the event is essentially doubling as a reunion for five members of the U.S. team that won gold by beating Canada at the Milan Cortina Games in February.A deep and talented 236-player draft class is top-heavy with Americans, led by Wisconsin defender and Olympic tournament MVP Caroline Harvey. She’s followed by four U.S. teammates in Wisconsin’s Laila Edwards and Kirsten Simms, Minnesota forward Abbey Murphy and Penn State forward Tessa Janecke.Add in non-U.S. Olympians in Wisconsin forward Lacey Eden, Ohio State defender Emma Peschel and Minnesota forward Sydney Morrow, and the first round could feature a predominant American flavor.Vancouver is scheduled to pick first, followed by fellow 2025 expansion team Seattle, after being the first two teams eliminated from playoff contention. Then come the PWHL’s newest additions, with Las Vegas having picks Nos. 3 and 5. Las Vegas was awarded the No. 5 pick, and acquired the No. 3 selection in a sign-and-trade deal that sent five-time U.S. Olympian Hilary Knight to Detroit.San Jose is set to pick fourth and Hamilton sixth. The depth of the draft classes' overall talent was already worked into the PWHL projections when it elected to add four expansion teams this offseason. And each of the 12 teams have numerous needs following an expansion signing process that shook up the rosters of the eight returning teams. The American talent in the draft is so rich that U.S. coach John Wroblewski said any one of his five players would have been considered potential No. 1 selections in most years.“I think it’s going to be unprecedented to see this many Olympians taken, and pivotal PWHL players. It’s certainly not going to be the norm going forward,” Wroblewski told The Associated Press. “There is just so much exceptional and generational talent in the top spots.”Though Wroblewski called it a “no-brainer” for Harvey to go No. 1, each of the five Olympians has the potential of being immediate impact players. With her fluid skating and play-making ability, the 23-year-old Harvey is already regarded as one of her game's top players after also earning women's college hockey MVP honors.Murphy brings grit and offense. At 6-foot-1, Edwards can play defense or forward, and possesses the rare combination of having a hard shot and smooth skating ability.Janecke is a well-rounded center, while Simms is strong on the wing, and a half-wall specialist on power plays. And that doesn’t even include Eden, who missed the national team cut but finished last year with a women’s college hockey-leading 77 points. There’s plenty of Canadian and European talent available in the six-round draft. The top-ranked Canadians are considered to be Ohio State defender Sara Swiderski and Princeton forward Issy Wunder.Switzerland national team goalie Andrea Braendli could go in the first round. The 29-year-old earned top goalie honors at Milan. Among the top-ranked European skaters are Finland national team forwards Elisa Holopainen and Petra Nieminen.“The talent is there in the first round, but I don’t think people have really been looking into rounds 3 through 6, and that talent is deep in this draft,” Las Vegas GM Dominique DiDia said. “It’s not stopping at Round 1.”___AP women’s hockey: https://apnews.com/hub/womens-hockey0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

LOUIS, MO - JUN 07: St. Louis Battlehawks cornerback Sean Fresch (29) returns the punt during a UFL Semifinal playoff game where the St. Louis Battlehawks hosted the Louisville Kings on Sunday June 7th, 2026, at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis MO (Photo by Rick Ulreich/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images According to multiple reports, including 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have signed former UFL cornerback and returner Sean Fresch. To make room for him on the 90-man roster, the team has waived cornerback Paul Manning. Per source, #Broncos have waived CB Paul Manning. Move makes room for Sean Fresch, a returner/corner.— MikeKlis9NEWS (@mikeklis9news) June 16, 2026Fresch is a 5-8, 173-pound cornerback and returner who had 2 sacks, 3 TFLs, and 4 PBUs this past season, as well as leading the UFL in punt return yards with 333 yards. He graduated from Rice in 2024 and has spent the past two seasons in the UFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks, but will now attempt to make it in the NFL and make the Broncos’ 53-man roster or their practice squad. The Broncos are pretty loaded at corner with Pat Surtain II, Riley Moss, Ja’Quan McMillian, Jahdae Barron, and Kris Abrams-Draine locked into roster spots. After that, you have Taylor Reese, Jaden Robinson, Ahmari Harvey, Brent Austin, and now Sean Fresch competing for one final spot on the 53-man roster or a few spots on their practice squad. What may benefit Fresch is his ability as a returner. He led the UFL in punt return yards this past season, but the Broncos do have an All-Pro punt returner in Marvin Mims Jr. However, he is in the final year of his deal and has recently switched agents, so who knows how that will all play out in the coming months. Having another player capable of returning punts is valuable, and we will see if Fresch can make an impact in the return game. The Broncos also signed former UFL and St. Louis Battlehawks wide receiver Hakeem Butler. To make room for Butler, the Broncos waived/injured veteran WR Michael Woods II, according to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis. So, the Broncos will be adding at least two former UFL players to their 90-man roster ahead of the start of their mandatory minicamp practices. We have seen Dondra Tillman come from the UFL and make an impact on the Broncos roster, and now Butler and Fresch will have the same opportunity. Both players are joining stacked areas on the roster, so it will be difficult, but competition is always good, and maybe the Broncos can find some more hidden gems in one or both players.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDharamsala gives wake-up call to rest of the BCCI state associationsTimesofIndia. com in Dharamsala: Around 5pm on Saturday, Rohit Sharma was the first Indian cricketer to walk out at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Relentless rain delayed the start of the first ODI between India and Afghanistan, forcing the players to stay busy with some indoor cricket as the weather showed no mercy. The DJ tried his best to entertain the spectators and the mighty Dhauladhar played a perfect tease in a very gloomy setting. The covers finally came off around 4:50pm and it took the groundstaff only 15 minutes to have the outfield ready for the toss. The Afghanistan openers took guard just 45 minutes after the covers came off for the first time that day.The entire ground was not covered, and the run-up area was protected only after the downpour became heavier. The moment the rain subsided, the sub-surface drainage system did its magic and the field was game-ready within 20 minutes. The HPCA Stadium is only the second cricket stadium in the country, after Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, to have the drainage system that allows for minimal delays the moment the weather clears up. Dharamsala acquired the technology ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup while Chinnaswamy has been using it for close to a decade now.No other venue in the country has warmed up to this idea and continues to rely on traditional methods like full ground covers - something which was pressed upon by then BCCI secretary Jay Shah ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. It is learnt that Chepauk explored the idea when they were relaying the entire outfield but the initial conversations never materialised and they continue to use the traditional drainage system. How expensive is the sub-surface drainage system? The sub-surface system used by Chinnaswamy and HPCA Stadium could range anywhere between Rs 6-8 crores. While this cost is at least five times more than traditional full ground covers, it eradicates the percentage of human error. With the drainage system, no association needs full ground covers or the army of ground staff required to seamlessly move them during interruptions. There is the need for regular maintenance but the operational cost is much less than the benefit it provides."No association is short of funds. The BCCI is giving them enough to maintain world class infrastructure and it's all about having the right priorities. The fans and other stakeholders can't be taken for a ride. Every washed-out cricket match is a wakeup call and it's the job of the administrators to ensure infrastructure is the last hurdle," explains a veteran BCCI official.TimesofIndia. com reached out to multiple stakeholders, and all were unanimous in explaining how a washed-out match affects the finances. The comprehensive insurance plan covers most revenue streams. While finances aren't severely hit, the cricket and spectators - the most important stakeholders — take a hit. There is some loss of ticket revenue because the money must be refunded if no balls are bowled."The revenue streams are taken care of by the insurance. Even the broadcaster doesn't lose much or anything because the inventory is played out during the rain-interrupted capsules. The one who suffers is the spectator who paid the top price for a seat in the stadium, and the teams participating in the fixture," explains the CEO of a leading IPL franchise."Every washed out or abandoned fixture robs a team of momentum which can have a bigger say in the larger scheme of things," added the CEO.The richest cricket board in the world has no dearth of resources and it's about time the state associations realign their priorities to ensure the game of cricket doesn't suffer.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

Bryson DeChambeau is coming off of two very rough major championship outings, which is surprising considering the tear he had went on just before things turned for him. Then there's Jon Rahm, who has been dominating on the LIV Golf circuit and was just in contention at the PGA Championship.Play Golf Pick ‘Em now to make your predictions for the U.S. Open!LIV Golf is very uncertain entering the week, too. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has announced that it is pulling funding for the league after the 2026 season. LIV Golf is now looking for new investors to rebrand and stay alive, but next season is in doubt for sure.Scottie Scheffler is still the favorite this week. A win for him would complete the career grand slam. But Rahm isn't far behind, and Dechambeau, who won the tournament in 2024, has more than proven he's capable when things go right. Here's a look at the 13 LIV Golf members in the field this week in New York.LIV Golf members playing at the U.S. OpenJon RahmBest finish: 1 (2021)OWGR: 8Of all the LIV Golf members in the field this week, Jon Rahm is in the best spot to win.Rahm has won twice on LIV Golf this season and has four runner-up titles in what's been a dominant run for the former top-ranked golfer in the world. He finished second at the PGA Championship last month, too, and has been incredibly consistent week-in and week-out. Expect Rahm to be able to contend this week.Bryson DeChambeauBest finish: 1 (2020, 2024) OWGR: 32It's been a bit of a rough stretch for Bryson DeChambeau, who was once dominating at the majors for LIV Golf. He missed the cut at both the Masters and PGA Championship this season, and his game looked rough. But he did help lead his LIV Golf team to a win in Korea, where he revealed he used Gemini to help fix his swing. He finished T3 before that at Augusta National for his best Masters outing, and he came in fourth last season at the U.S. Open. He won the LIV Golf tournament in Andalucia earlier this season, too.David PuigBest finish: T39 (2023)OWGR: 57David Puig is in this week after he cracked the top 60 in the OWGR, thanks largely to his T18 finish at the PGA Championship last month. He finished in second at LIV Golf Mexico City, too, and has five top 10 finishes this season.Joaquin NiemannBest finish: T23 (2021)OWGR: 80Joaquin Niemann missed the cut at the U.S. Open last season, but he is coming off a T18 run at the PGA Championship last month. He won LIV Golf Korea in a playoff this season, too, which helped him secure entries into both the U.S. Open and British Open this summer.Lucas HerbertBest finish: T31 (2021)OWGR: 88Lucas Herbert is back in the U.S. Open for the first time since 2023. He's only made the cut once at the major in his four starts, and he earned his way in this week as the top three players in the LIV Golf standings not otherwise exempt into the tournament. He won LIV Golf Virginia this season, too.Cameron SmithBest finish: 4 (2023)OWGR: 136Cameron Smith has only made the cut once in his last seven major starts. But that was last month, when he snuck into a T7 finish at the PGA Championship. We'll see if that can restart things for him.Carlos OrtizBest finish: T4 (2025)OWGR: 188This will be Carlos Ortiz's fifth U.S. Open start since he made his debut in 2016. He finished T4 last season, and was just four shots off the lead entering the final round. He posted a 60 earlier this season at LIV Golf Hong Kong, too. Peter UihleinBest finish: T48 (2018)OWGR: 181Peter Uihlein earned his way in this week through a qualifier. He's only finished under par in two of his last 10 major starts, too. The former top-ranked golfer in the world has finished in the top five in his last two LIV Golf outings, however, and has at least made the weekend in his last three majors. That's a start.Caleb SurrattBest finish: -OWGR: 287Caleb Surratt survived a 6-for-1 playoff at his U.S. Open qualifier in Dallas to earn a U.S. Open berth, which will be his first ever major championship appearance. He's made three top-20 finishes with LIV Golf this season.Graeme McDowellBest finish: 1 (2010)OWGR: 950While he won back in 2010, Graeme McDowell has struggled over the past decade or so. He's not played in a major championship at all since the 2021 campaign, when he missed the cut at the U.S. Open, and he only made it in this week through a qualifying event.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrewers Reacts Survey: Who do you want to see in the All-Star Game?Jun 14, 2026; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras (24) bats during the game against the Philadelphia Phillies at American Family Field. Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images | Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Brewers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. We’re back with another Reacts Survey, and this week we’re asking fans about the upcoming All-Star Game in Philadelphia! While it seems all but guaranteed that we’ll see Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski in the big game, we’re wondering which other Brewer you’d most like to see make an appearance. We’ve narrowed it down to fellow starting pitcher Kyle Harrison, outfielder Jackson Chourio, second baseman Brice Turang, first baseman/outfielder Jake Bauers, and catcher William Contreras.Harrison, 24, is putting together the best year of his career, as he’s totaled 65 2/3 innings over 13 starts for Milwaukee, pitching to a 2.47 ERA, 3.05 FIP, and 80 strikeouts — and that’s including a blow-up appearance where he allowed eight runs in just 2 1/3 innings against the A’s in Las Vegas.Chourio, 22, missed the first month-plus of the season, but he’s been better than ever since returning, as he’s hitting .322/.370/.572 with nine homers, 11 doubles, 26 RBIs, 27 runs, and five steals across 35 games. He’s also fresh off an NL Player of the Week selection, as he slugged five homers and drove in at least one run in each of Milwaukee’s six games.Turang, 26, got out to a red-hot start but has cooled off a bit in recent weeks. Even so, he’s hitting .261/.378/.457 with 10 homers, 14 doubles, 42 RBIs, 53 runs, and 12 steals across 65 games while also providing above-average defense. After finishing in 14th place in last year’s MVP voting, it only seems deserving that he should be an All-Star for the first time in his career.Bauers, 30, is having a bit of a breakout year, as he has 1.7 bWAR over 60 games, easily the best mark of his career. He’s hitting .276/.374/.519 with 13 homers, 12 doubles, 46 RBIs, 40 runs, and five steals, as he’s started to make a few more starts in the outfield as Pat Murphy tries to get both him and the red-hot Andrew Vaughn in the lineup. Finally, Contreras, 28, continues to be a leader on this young Brewer squad. While he has just 1.3 bWAR, he’s still hitting .295/.352/.411 with six homers, 12 doubles, 43 RBIs, 39 runs, and a steal while providing veteran leadership and leading the league in ABS challenges (his 88 as a catcher easily outpace the second-place Edgar Quero, who has 68).MLB provided a voting update yesterday, and while pitchers (like Miz and Harrison) aren’t eligible to be selected via votes, all four of the position players mentioned here are within shouting distance:Chourio: 15th among outfielders at 252,264 votes (current sixth place: Jordan Walker at 437,071 votes)Turang: second among second baseman at 373,656 votes (current second place: Bryson Stott at 399,729 votes)Bauers: fourth among first baseman at 207,276 votes (current second place: Matt Olson at 802,848 votes)Contreras: fourth among catchers at 303,240 votes (current second place: Will Smith at 662,883 votes)Which of these five would you most like to see in July’s All-Star Game? Weigh in below and stay tuned for results later this week! Please take our survey0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

APNEWS.COMA 6.7 magnitude earthquake shakes part of Indonesia, causing damage and injuriesA man talks on his mobile phone near a building damaged in an earthquake in Palu, Central Sulawesi, Tuesday, June 16, 2026. (AP Photo/Josua Marunduh)2026-06-16T03:50:59Z PALU, Indonesia (AP) — A 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook part of central Indonesia ’s Sulawesi island Tuesday, injuring dozens of people, damaging homes and infrastructure and rattling residents of a city devastated by a quake and tsunami eight years ago, officials said. The initial quake was centered inland about 43 kilometers (27 miles) east-southeast of Palu, and the U.S. Geological Survey said it was about 10 kilometers (6 miles) deep. The strong shaking sent people fleeing into open areas in and around Palu, a city of about 400,000 people and the capital of Central Sulawesi province. Several hospitals evacuated patients, some with IV drips, outdoors as a safety measure. Four regencies close to the epicenter — with a combined population of 1.3 million — have yet to be fully assessed, but a preliminary report said at least 109 people have been displaced by the powerful earthquake. At the same time, 32 people were reported injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, including eight with serious injuries in the hardest hit Sigi regency, according to Abdul Muhari, the National Disaster Management Agency’s spokesperson. AP AUDIO: 6.7-magnitude earthquake shakes part of Indonesia, causing damage and injuries AP correspondent Charles de Ledesma reports a strong earthquake has shaken Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island, injuring at least 8 people, and followed by strong aftershocks. He said the earthquake also caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure, including 64 houses, four places of worship, four public facilities, two bridges, two government office buildings, a cafe and a hotel. A section of a provincial road linking Palu city and its neighboring regencies of Sigi and Poso was cut. The agency also said that at least 55 aftershocks continued throughout the day, raising concerns among residents shaken by memories of a devastating 2018 earthquake and tsunami in the region. The aftershocks prompted residents to flee buildings and gather in open areas. Read More Images from the area showed heavily damaged structures with partially collapsed roofs, shattered walls and debris scattered across the streets. “We have evacuated all guests from the hotel, including several guests who remained in their rooms,” said Effendi Natali, a general manager of a four-star hotel in Palu. Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami but warned aftershocks could continue.“The earthquake shaking was extremely strong,” Palu resident Muhtar Ahmad said. “We are still traumatized by the previous earthquake, so we chose to remain outside because we are afraid that aftershocks may continue.”Many Sulawesi residents are haunted by the magnitude 7.5 earthquake that devastated Palu in 2018, setting off a 3-meter (10-foot) high tsunami and a phenomenon called liquefaction in which soil collapses into itself. More than 4,000 people were killed, including many who were buried when whole neighborhoods were swallowed in the falling ground. In January 2021, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake near the city of Mamuju on Sulawesi island left at least 100 people dead, with thousands sleeping outdoors for days out of fear of aftershocks. Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity because of its location on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.___Associated Press journalists Niniek Karmini and Edna Tarigan in Jakarta contributed.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

APNEWS.COMWhy eat junk on a camping trip? Tips and recipes for nutritious food on the trailRashad Frazier prepares food outdoors in Lava Lands, Ore., on Aug. 7, 2024. (Alex Forestier via AP)2026-06-16T12:43:14Z Few things feel better than a long hike in the woods, exhausting yourself as you soak in the fresh air and tranquility. Then, back to camp, where you chip away at those health benefits with packaged hot dogs slapped into a white-bread bun with a slice of plasticky processed cheese food.It doesn’t have to be that way, said Aaron Owens Mayhew, a dietitian and long-haul trekker in Orcutt, California.“It always made me sad that people who train so hard, they exercise, they eat well at home, and then they go backpacking and pick up honey buns,” Owens Mayhew said.Getting outside generally improves mental and physical health. But too often, campers and hikers resort to the convenience of processed foods high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. Here’s how to rethink campsite cooking to eat healthy while acting healthy. This article is part of AP’s Be Well coverage, focusing on wellness, fitness, diet and mental health. Read more Be Well. Eat outdoors what you eat at homeMany people rightly assume that a little processed food is fine, especially when you’re exerting outsize energy that can help counter excess calories. The problem lies in the way the body processes it, said Owens Mayhew, who founded Backcountry Foodie, a website dedicated to bringing nutrition to the trail.Simple carbohydrates like sugary baked goods and candy bars can cause rapid blood glucose spikes followed by a sharp drop, leaving hikers more fatigued than before. Meanwhile, heavily processed foods tend to be dense in calories but lacking the vitamins, minerals and protein the body needs to perform well. A healthy diet can provide consistent energy throughout the day and improved recovery. “I like to think of food as one variable that can be controlled, unlike a sprained ankle or bad weather,” Owens Mayhew said. Read More She said the best way to eat in the wilderness is to find ways to continue eating the food you normally do at home. Instead of frying bacon and eggs on the fire because that’s what you did at camp as a kid, have that bran cereal you eat every morning, this time with powdered milk (find it in the baking aisle). Many of the recipes on Owens Mayhew’s website are healthier versions of her family’s classic recipes, including tuna casserole, garlic-Parmesan noodles and sweet potato casserole. As a supplement to grilled meat or fish, she suggested packing instant brown rice, quinoa and couscous, which are lightweight, healthy and require only boiled water. To boost flavor, add fresh ginger, herbs, or garlic or onion powder. Adding nuts, dried mushrooms, grated Parmesan, sun-dried tomatoes or dried fruit turns the starch into a meal of its own.Prep meals at home and assemble at campCooking at camp is much harder than when you’re comfortably home in your kitchen, so winging it is usually a bad idea, said Rashad Frazier, founder of Camp Yoshi, a gourmet adventure outfitter.Well before a trip, take time to plan meals and prep as many ingredients as will stay fresh in zip-top bags or containers. Chopping onions or grating fresh ginger at home frees time to enjoy the sunset and spend time with family when you’re outdoors.“There’s no extra bonus points for cutting onions and making mango chutney at camp,” he said. Frazier’s cookbook, “Cook Out,” devotes a section to pantry ingredients that can be prepped at home. His universal spice mix, salsa verde, chutneys, curry paste, pickled onions and other flavor boosters pack a punch without adding many calories. They can be mixed and matched, he said, with whatever meat, vegetables or grains you have. Also, always have an emergency backup meal for when bad weather or other factors ruin your plans, Frazier said. His is a Bolognese sauce that he keeps in the freezer until leaving. But a homemade pureed soup or even peanut butter and jelly can be a lifesaver.“Have that one dish that’s always like, in the event of emergency, break glass, eat this,” he said. Two recipes to elevate campsite cooking:Rashad Frazier’s Universal Camping Spice MixFrom the cookbook “Cook Out “Ingredients1 tablespoon kosher salt1 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper1 teaspoon smoked paprika1 teaspoon thyme1⁄2 teaspoon garlic powder1⁄2 teaspoon onion powder1⁄2 teaspoon cayenne (adjust to spice preference)DirectionsMix at home and put into a sealed container. Rub onto any meat, fish or vegetable before cooking on a well-oiled grill.___ Backcountry Foodie’s Parmesan Pesto RamenOne servingIngredients:1 package ramen noodles2 tablespoons pine nuts or almonds1 tablespoon dried basil (or 2 tablespoons fresh, if available)1/8 teaspoon garlic powder1/8 teaspoon table salt2 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese3 tablespoons olive oil6 oz water DirectionsAt home, discard the ramen’s high-salt seasoning packet. Create a pesto packet by putting the nuts, herbs, garlic and cheese into a small baggie. At camp, boil water to cook the pasta, discard the water when tender, and stir in the pesto packet and oil. Tear fresh basil if you have it and stir it in.___The recipe for Universal Camping Spice Mix is excerpted from “Cook Out: Recipes and Tips for the Great Outdoors” by Rashad Frazier, courtesy of 4 Color Books. The recipe for Parmesan Pesto Ramen comes from the website “Backcountry Foodie.” ___EDITOR’S NOTE: Albert Stumm writes about food, travel and wellness. (Alex Forestier via AP)2026-06-16T15:34:10Z LONDON (AP) — The British military is investigating a report that a Russian warship fired warning shots at a yacht in the English Channel. The Defense Ministry said “we are investigating reports of an incident in the Channel” on Tuesday. It comes after a U.K.-registered yacht said it was fired on by a Russian navy vessel about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of the Isle of Wight, outside U.K. territorial waters. There are no reports of injuries or damage to the yacht. The Royal Navy ship HMS Mersey was monitoring the Russian vessel at the time. The incident comes two days after armed British forces boarded and detained a sanctioned tanker in the Channel that is suspected of being part of the Russian “shadow fleet.” Officials are not linking the two events. The ship’s captain, an Indian national, charged with shipping Russian oil in violation of international sanctions over Moscow’s war on Ukraine, was ordered held in jail after appearing Tuesday in court. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJoshua Kimmich defends Leroy Sané: ‘I don’t understand the criticism’Joshua Kimmich defends Leroy Sané: ‘I don’t understand the criticism’Germany captain Joshua Kimmich has defended Leroy Sané following criticism of his performance after their 7-1 victory over Curaçao on Sunday.“I saw that and to be honest, I don’t think the criticism is understandable,” explained Kimmich in Tuesday’s press conference. “I thought he was extremely committed, he never left me alone in counter situations and always sprinted back to help defensively.”At one point, a Kicker poll indicated that 77% of readers (64,221 votes) believe that Leroy Sané shouldn’t start vs Ivory Coast.“Of course he didn’t score a goal, which you’re judged by as an attacking player but the most important thing is that internally, we don’t judge the players by that,” added Kimmich.“I don’t understand the criticism after a 7-1 win, especially when you see Leroy’s body language, which always was a point of criticism.“He was always the first to celebrate the goals, even before the ball had gone in. For me that shows that the team is the most important thing for him. For me he played a good game from the team’s perspective.”GGFN | Daniel Pinder0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMJude dismisses lawsuit filed by nonbinary ranger fired for trans flag. They’re not done fighting. The nonbinary ranger who was fired for displaying a large trans flag at Yosemite National Park last year has had their lawsuit against the federal government dismissed by a judge. The dismissal came not on the merits of the case, but on a technicality, which requires them to wait on a response from the office of the special counsel before they can appeal. Dr. SJ Joslin told the New York Times that this “isn’t a ‘win’ for the federal government.” They went on to lament that “this just slows down the process of allowing justice to be served for the American people and slows down allowing National Park Service employees to be effective stewards of public lands.” Related Nonbinary biologist fired for hanging large trans Pride flag in Yosemite National Park Nonbinary biologist fired for hanging large trans Pride flag in Yosemite National Park Joslin had petitioned the court to reinstate them in their job, order the government not to pursue a criminal investigation into them for an action purportedly protected by the First Amendment, and issue a preliminary injunction enabling them to return to work while the case was decided. US District Judge Jennifer Thurston ruled that, as a probationary employee, Joslin was required to follow the process in the Civil Service Reform Act (CSRA). Under that policy, they must file a complaint with the Office of the Special Counsel (OSC). Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Joslin has already filed with the OSC, but a response to their case is not expected until August. In the meantime, OSC denied the request to put Joslin’s termination on hold until a final decision is issued. While Joslin may be able to return to the courts if the OSC upholds their termination, Judge Thurston has said they cannot do more until that decision is reached. In her ruling, the judge noted that the government claimed Joslin’s firing was not related to the potential free speech issue surrounding the display of the trans flag, but rather focused on the technical matter. “The government has another more fundamental and more persuasive point: under the laws that Congress has passed, and under the legal precedent that a federal trial court must follow, this Court does not have authority to decide whether Joslin was fired for unconstitutional or illegal reasons, nor to block a hypothetical criminal case against them.” The judge also denied the preliminary injunction, as such an injunction would have to be predicated on an expectation that Joslin would win their case. As that case is being dismissed, the injunction cannot be issued. In May 2025, during off-work hours, Joslin led a group of activists (including Pattie Gonia, who is currently fighting a copyright lawsuit from Patagonia) to hang a 55-foot transgender Pride flag from El Capitan. Joslin has said that the protest came in the face of the Trump administration’s campaign against trans and gender diverse people through a series of executive orders and a renewal of his trans military ban. Speaking to the Associated Press at the time, Joslin said, “I was really hurting because there were a lot of policies coming from the current administration that target trans people, and I’m nonbinary.” They described it as a way to “tell myself… that we’re all safe in national parks.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pattie Gonia (@pattiegonia) The act was not illegal, with many National Parks having “First Amendment areas” where no permit is required for a small demonstration of 25 or fewer people. El Capitan is located within one of those areas, and the group of activists was small. There were also no policies against such a display at Yosemite at the time. However, the day after Joslin and their team unfurled the trans flag, Ray McPadden, the Yosemite acting supervisor, updated the rules to ban “any banner, flag, or sign larger than fifteen square feet” from any of the park’s “natural or cultural feature[s].” On August 12, Joslin received a letter firing them for “failing to demonstrate acceptable conduct” during their 2-year probationary period, citing the demonstration. They asked for evidence that the display was in any way against the policies of the time, but never received it. They were later notified that they and two of their coworkers were under criminal investigation over the incident. In February, Joslin filed their lawsuit against the federal government, challenging their termination and the alleged criminal investigation, claiming that both infringed on their First Amendment right to free speech. The lawsuit targeted the National Park Service (NPS), the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Department of Justice, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and NPS acting director Jessica Bowron. In the complaint, Joslin’s lawyers noted, “For decades, climbers at Yosemite National Park have expressed messages — political and non-political — from the iconic rock formation El Capitan.” However, “For this transgression, Dr. Joslin was summarily fired and then, in a significant escalation, criminally investigated. This vindictive campaign violated Dr. Joslin’s First Amendment and Privacy Act rights and continues to chill their expressive conduct and speech.” The lawsuit also cites the Trump administration’s campaign against the trans community. Joslin told The Hill in May, “Yes, I lost my job for this flag. But this wasn’t the first way that the Trump administration had been scaring us into silence as federal workers.” Clayton Bailey of the Civil Service Law Center, which serves as co-counsel on the case, said that, “If Dr. Joslin had hung a flag the administration liked, they would be working at Yosemite today.” Despite the dismissal, the judge has left room for Joslin to return to court in the future. She notes that if OSC upholds the termination, Joslin might have limited options. At the same time, the decision does not address the First Amendment aspect of the case. Instead, Thurston dismissed the case without prejudice, meaning that the matter may be revisited in a subsequent lawsuit. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYankees player has beef with MLB, and he is making valid pointsNew York Yankees utility man Jose Caballero has built a reputation as one of MLB‘s most annoying players to play against, and that’s meant as a compliment. Caballero thrives on energy, hustle, and finding little ways to gain an advantage over his opponents. Sometimes that style rubs people the wrong way, but his latest disagreement with Major League Baseball raises an interesting question: if a player is following the rules, should he be criticized for it? That was the situation Caballero found himself in during Sunday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.MORE: Aaron Judge injury gives Yankees young stars chance to shine Playing By The RulesJun 2, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees shortstop Jose Caballero (72) talks with umpire Chris Segal (96) during the fourth inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn ImagesIn the sixth inning, Caballero stepped into the batter’s box and took nearly all the time available to him under MLB’s pitch clock rules before engaging with Blue Jays reliever Spencer Miles. According to the rulebook, hitters have until there are eight seconds remaining on the pitch clock to be alert and engaged with the pitcher. Caballero did exactly that, making eye contact with Miles while the clock still showed eight seconds.Despite following the written rule, home plate umpire Steven Jaschinski appeared frustrated by the tactic and made an issue out of the situation. Caballero’s strategy is simple. By waiting until the final legal moment to engage, he limits the amount of time a pitcher has to get comfortable, come set, and deliver a pitch. Is The Real Problem The Rule? There’s no doubt Caballero knows exactly what he’s doing. Could he engage with the pitcher earlier? Of course. But that’s not really the point. The current rules allow hitters to use the entire allotted time, and Caballero is simply taking advantage of that opportunity. If opposing teams, umpires, or MLB officials dislike the tactic, the solution is straightforward: change the rule.Until that happens, it’s difficult to argue that Caballero is doing anything wrong.Gamesmanship Has Always Been Part Of BaseballBaseball players have spent generations looking for competitive edges. Some work counts, some take extra leads off base, and others find ways to disrupt a pitcher’s rhythm. Caballero’s approach falls squarely into that category.Love it or hate it, he’s operating within the framework MLB created. If there’s a controversy here, it isn’t Caballero following the rulebook. It’s the idea that a player could face criticism for doing exactly what the rules allow him to do.— Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSeries Preview: Giants travel to God’s country to get swept probablyATLANTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 14: Manager Walt Weiss reacts with Drake Baldwin #30 and Mike Yastrzemski #18 of the Atlanta Braves during the eighth inning against the Miami Marlins at Truist Park on April 14, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images) | Getty Images The players’ protest of Pride Night reminded me of country musician Morgan Wallen walking off of the Saturday Night Live set and posting to social media “Get me to God’s country.” It was such an odd protest, but it did the task of 1) informing me of Morgan Wallen’s existence (and I don’t claim that I’m too cool for school in that regard, I just haven’t heard anything new in a long time for lots of reasons) and 2) reminding me of the awkward — yet effective — social protests that evangelicals love to do. But why am I thinking of Morgan Wallen at a time like this?Oh yeah, he and Tony Vitello are good friends.… But, like, SNL invited you on the show, Morgan. What are you complaining about? And your social media post was “Get me to God’s country” overlayed on an image of your private plane. I’m at a loss… oh, right. It’s not supposed to make sense beyond conveying disapproval and being vaguely disruptive. I guess waiting until the very end of the show is the least disruptive disruption you could do to make sure you keep getting invited to these mainstream things, but the shot at New York? Oh, right. That’s for “your base” (he also sells t-shirts with that phrase). Successful people of faith have decided to lead by taking shots at the institutions which have propped them up. Fair enough, I guess. And, it makes sense. If some people of faith take issue with “lifestyles,” then regions of land seems like an emotionally consistent extension.Okay, not only are Vitello and Wallen friends, one of Wallen’s songs is called “‘98 Braves” — okay, now we’re back on track. This is a series preview about the San Francisco Giants traveling to Atlanta for a three-game series. That song’s about a great team coming up short anyway. From 106-56 to losing to the Padres in the NLCS. (Stares in 1993 Giants). Atlanta’s coming off a 2025 which fell far short of expectations in a much more dramatic way in that they went 76-86. But with a championship in recent memory and a well-managed organization, the fandom certainly thought a run like the 90s teams was in progress. Well, maybe it is. Last year seems to have been merely an anomaly. Sort of like 2013 was for the championship era Giants. Atlanta’s lineup is excellent, led by Drake Baldwin (158 wRC+), who’s sort of their Bryce Eldridge (sarcasm). Matt Olson continues to be outstanding (team leading 20 HR along with a 143 wRC+), Michael Harris is having a season on par with his sublime 2022 season (when he was 21) where he had a 137 wRC+ (it’s currently 134), Ozzie Albies is having his best season since 2023 (113 wRC+), Ronald Acuna has stopped being a slugger but he’s still a tough out (.373 OBP, 14.8 BB%), and, a trio of former Giants are buttressing all of this talent with solid performances..Mauricio Dubon (1.5 fWAR) is sort of a dude on this team. Last week, he got this glowing writeup in The Athletic where he sounds a whole lot more confident than he did in his younger days with the team:“It’s funny because sometimes ‘Oh lefty-righty matchup,’ I think that’s a bunch of bulls—,” Dubón said. “I hit everybody, and (Braves manager Walt Weiss) knows that. For him to give me the trust and go out there and perform, it’s good when the manager has your back.”Mike Yastrzemski got off to a disastrous start (.200/.258/.252 through May 9th), but has taken off over the past month (.290/.421/.516 since). Dominic Smith (106 wRC+) is their DH but rather famously, he hit a walk-off grand slam in his first game. So, keep an eye on those guys.Meanwhile, the headline is pretty dramatic. A sweep at the hands of these Atlantans is not a foregone conclusion. The Giants took 2 out of 3 last year in a down year, but also 2 out of 3 in 2024. Sure, the Braves have won the series in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, but it’s not like the Giants were good in 2024 and 2025. They’re even worse now. Does that mean they have the Braves right where they want them? Do the Giants know them well enough to keep their bad times rolling or did all that familiarity disappear with the coaching staff turnover?GiantsBryce Eldridge: I’d very much like to see what he could do in Truist Park and against the two worst starters in Atlanta’s rotation. Grant Holmes is sporting a 5.26 FIP thanks to a 1.8 HR/9 and JR Ritchie has a 5.15 FIP in part because of a 1.2 HR/9 but mainly a 5.3 BB/9. The Giants might lose every game 9-3, but if all three games feature a 3-run dinger from the rookie, that’d be great.Robbie Ray: His trade value is quite low, but a solid start against a great team could help salvage some of it. Rafael Devers: I wrote this scathing piece about how he probably wasn’t going to be much better than a league average hitter (he’s at 95 wRC+ right now) and I would like to eat some crow on this because I’d hate for the only time that happens this season to be because Luis Arraez became an All-Star second baseman in part because of his defense. For the same reasons that Eldridge might thrive, Devers should, too. Tony Vitello watchYou know, I should mention that Atlanta’s manager is a first timer, too, only he’s former Oakland Athletic Walt Weiss, who has been a longtime major league coach. He sort of backed into the job by default after Brian Snitker announced his retirement, but, you know what? He’s here and thriving. Prediction timeMorgan Wallen will show up.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYankees predicted to trade for AL rival $9M 2-time All-Star as potential Ryan McMahon replacementYankees predicted to trade for AL rival $9M 2-time All-Star as potential Ryan McMahon replacement originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Yankees are firmly in the mix as one of the league's true contenders, although they have gone through some rough stretches at times this season. One player who has struggled for much of the year is third baseman Ryan McMahon, who got off to a slow start offensively.“You'd hope for one of two things from a glove-first guy hitting No. 7 or 8 in your lineup: Either they make lots of contact in order to move runners over and force the defense to make plays, or they do damage in the form of extra-base hits. McMahon profiled as the latter when New York traded for him, but he's been neither of late, striking out more than 30 percent of the time while sending harmless fly balls to the opposite field whenever he does connect,” FanSided’s Chris Landers wrote.Recently, however, McMahon has begun to turn things around for the Yankees, showing signs that he may be finding his rhythm at the plate.“There might be some light at the end of the tunnel, though. From May 19th until Wednesday, McMahon has turned things around to some extent, and the numbers show it. Over that span, the infielder is hitting .304/.319/.587 with four home runs and a 150 wRC+ in 47 plate appearances,” Pinstripe Alley’s Andres Chavez wrote.Even with McMahon's recent improvement, the Yankees could still pursue another third baseman as insurance in case his struggles return. Houston Astros infielder Isaac Paredes would be an intriguing option, potentially forming a platoon at third base with McMahon.“Paredes is a right-handed hitter and a capable third baseman who could step into a platoon at the hot corner with Ryan McMahon. Paredes, a two-time All-Star, is an above-average hitter who hit 31 home runs and drove in 98 RBIs in 2023 with the Rays. This year, the 27-year-old has a .725 OPS with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 66 games. His 106 wRC+ is still above league average but is his lowest in a single season since ‘21. He’s not a top-tier defender by any metrics, but he makes up for it with his bat and can also rotate to various positions in the infield. Paredes has a $13 million club option for 2027,” SI’s Karl Rasmussen wrote. The Yankees know they need a long-term answer at third base, and McMahon has yet to prove he can consistently fill that role. Paredes could eventually develop into New York's everyday third baseman while also providing lineup flexibility.Paredes is playing on a $9 million contract and has a club option for the 2027 season. The Yankees could benefit from his affordable salary while potentially moving on from McMahon's contract. Paredes would be a solid addition for New York, providing value both offensively and defensively.More MLB news:Giants reportedly exploring trade offers for $646M veteran trio after abysmal start to seasonDodgers' Dave Roberts announces $66M game-changer is nearing return after hamstring injuryBraves receive sobering Tarik Skubal trade update following Spencer Strider elbow injuryBraves predicted to trade for $75M 3x All-Star, Cy Young finalist after Spencer Strider injury0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Los Angeles Knight Riders fared in Major League Cricket 2025Los Angeles Knight Riders endured another difficult Major League Cricket campaign in 2025, finishing bottom of the six-team standings with just two wins from 10 matches. They ended with four points and a net run-rate of -1.320, failing to qualify for the playoffs. The season began disastrously with three successive defeats, including a crushing 113-run loss to Washington Freedom - their biggest defeat of the tournament. A six-wicket victory over Seattle Orcas in Dallas briefly revived hopes, but LAKR were unable to sustain momentum. They lost six of their next seven matches, with their campaign effectively ending before a spirited final-day win over San Francisco Unicorns.LAKR suffered several heavy defeats while chasing and repeatedly failed to defend competitive totals. Their biggest win came in a rain-shortened thriller against San Francisco Unicorns, where they successfully protected 243 in 19 overs to sign off on a high. However, the campaign was marked by inconsistency and a lack of bowling control, with only two victories and no no-results.Season record: 10 matches, 2 wins, 8 lossesBiggest defeat: Lost by 113 runs vs Washington FreedomBiggest victory: Won by 11 runs vs San Francisco Unicorns (DLS-adjusted)Final position: 6thMatch-by-matchMatch 3: Lost to San Francisco Unicorns by 32 runsLAKR's season opener proved disappointing. Chasing 220 after the Unicorns posted 219/8, they were bowled out for 187 in 19.5 overs. Despite some resistance from the middle order, the chase never truly gathered momentum.Match 5: Lost to Texas Super Kings by 57 runsTexas Super Kings amassed 181/4 and LAKR's batting collapsed under pressure. They were dismissed for 124 in 17.1 overs, registering back-to-back defeats and exposing early problems against quality pace bowling.Match 8: Lost to Washington Freedom by 113 runsWashington Freedom piled on 208/5 before producing a devastating bowling display. LAKR folded for just 95 in 16.3 overs, suffering their heaviest defeat of the season and extending their losing streak to three matches.Match 12: Beat Seattle Orcas by six wicketsAfter three losses, LAKR finally got on the board. Seattle posted 177/6, but the Knight Riders chased down the target with ten balls to spare, reaching 178/4 in 18.2 overs. It was their most complete performance up to that point.Match 15: Lost to Texas Super Kings by 52 runsFacing TSK for the second time, LAKR conceded 196/8 and could only manage 144/7. The defeat underlined their inability to contain opposition batting line-ups.Match 17: Lost to Washington Freedom by five wicketsOne of LAKR's best batting performances came when they posted 213/4. However, Washington Freedom chased down the target in the final over, reaching 214/5 and denying LAKR what would have been a morale-boosting win.Match 20: Lost to Seattle Orcas by five wicketsLAKR again crossed 200, making 202/4, but their bowlers failed to close out the game. Seattle reached 206/5 with one ball remaining, handing LAKR another painful defeat.Match 24: Lost to MI New York by eight wicketsBatting first, LAKR made 154/8, which proved insufficient. MI New York cruised to 155/2 in 17.5 overs, leaving LAKR staring at elimination.Match 27: Lost to MI New York by six runsIn a low-scoring encounter, MI New York managed 142/9. LAKR looked favourites for long periods but finished on 136/4, falling agonisingly short and suffering another close defeat.Match 30: Beat San Francisco Unicorns by 11 runsLAKR saved their best for last. In a rain-reduced 19-over contest, they blasted 243/3 before San Francisco were set a DLS target of 245. Despite the Unicorns' aggressive chase, they were bowled out for 233 in 18.5 overs, allowing LAKR to finish the season with a memorable victory.Top performersBatting starsUnmukt Chand – 302 runsUnmukt Chand was LAKR's most consistent batter, scoring 302 runs in nine innings at an average of 37.75 and a strike rate of 124.79. He registered three half-centuries and remained the anchor of the batting unit throughout the season.Andre Fletcher – 289 runsThe veteran opener produced the most explosive performances for LAKR. Fletcher struck 289 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 158.79, including two centuries, making him one of the most destructive batters in the competition.Sherfane Rutherford – 222 runsRutherford provided valuable middle-order firepower, scoring 222 runs at a strike rate of 159.71. His unbeaten 86 showcased his finishing abilities.Saif Badar – 170 runsBadar contributed useful runs in the middle order, including one fifty, and added stability when the top order failed.Andre Russell – 126 runsAlthough not at his dominant best with the bat, Russell chipped in with a fifty and maintained a strike rate of nearly 145.Leading bowlersShadley van Schalkwyk – 14 wicketsVan Schalkwyk emerged as LAKR's most successful bowler, claiming 14 wickets in 10 matches. Despite operating in difficult circumstances, he consistently provided breakthroughs.Andre Russell – 10 wicketsRussell contributed with both bat and ball, picking up 10 wickets and often serving as the side's strike option in the middle overs.Tanveer Sangha – 9 wicketsThe leg-spinner impressed with nine wickets in six matches and maintained an economy of 9.09, making him one of LAKR's more reliable bowlers.Jason Holder – 9 wicketsHolder's experience was valuable, with the West Indian all-rounder collecting nine wickets while also contributing useful lower-order runs.Corne Dry – 5 wicketsDespite featuring in only four matches, Dry managed five wickets and showed promise as a pace option.Season verdictThe 2025 season was another frustrating campaign for Los Angeles Knight Riders. While the batting unit frequently posted competitive totals and enjoyed standout contributions from Andre Fletcher and Unmukt Chand, the bowling attack struggled to defend scores consistently. Six defeats came after either posting or chasing competitive totals, highlighting the team's inability to close out matches.Yet, the final-game victory over San Francisco Unicorns showed the attacking potential within the squad. If LAKR can find greater balance with the ball and convert promising positions into wins, they will hope to avoid another bottom-place finish in future seasons.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDustin May's early pitch mix change has fueled his career year in St. LouisIt's been a long road for Dustin May from GIF hero to reliable starting pitcher. Videos of his hard-running sinker and sweeping breaking ball dazzled many baseball fans for years, but he had pitched over 50 innings just once in an MLB season heading into last year. Even in a relatively healthy 2025 season, he had his worst year from a results perspective, so what May has done this year in his first season with the Cardinals has caught many by surprise. After seven years, it seems that we may finally be witnessing the Dustin May breakout. When the right-hander debuted back in 2019, he was coming off a solid but not exceptional minor league career. His ratios had always been good, but the strikeout numbers never seemed to match what people saw with their eyes: a 6'6" mass of lanky limbs and flowing red hair, hurling 98 mph sinkers with 19 inches of run in on right-handed hitters and 87 mph breaking balls with nearly 16 inches of movement in the other direction. It was so easy to imagine May leaving MLB hitters in fits. Yet, it never seemed to happen. Mostly due to injuries. After pitching over 140 innings split between the majors and minors in 2019, May was healthy for all of the COVID-shortened 2020 season, throwing 56 innings with a 2.57 ERA, but the strikeouts weren't quite on par with the league average. In 2021, he began the season in the Dodgers' starting rotation before injuring his elbow and having to undergo Tommy John surgery in May of that year. When he returned in 2022, he pitched well in the minors and threw 30 MLB innings before back injuries shut him down for the rest of the season. He was, again, healthy at the start of 2023 and made nine starts before a right forearm and flexor tendon injury ended his season and required surgery and significant rehab. That's when the injuries got even scarier. While May was completing a rehab program in the Dodgers’ training facility at Camelback Ranch,he suffered a torn esophagus when a piece of salad got stuck in his throat while he was out to dinner. May had to be rushed into surgery and then remained in the hospital for another 11 days before being released. Not only was the incident frightening in its own right, but it further delayed his return from elbow surgery, and he missed the entire 2024 season. As a result, not much was expected of May when he returned to the mound in 2025. It was just nice to see him healthy and pitching. He went on to make 23 starts for the Dodgers and Red Sox, pitching a career high 132.1 innings before missing the final weeks of the regular season and the Wild Card Series due to elbow inflammation. On one hand, a 4.96 ERA and 1.42 WHIP were disappointing, but on the other hand, May finally cleared an important mental hurdle and threw a full MLB season. Almost. "I mean, it definitely helped [to throw a full season]. I mean, I still didn't have a full season, which is kind of irritating," May said before the Cardinals' final game against the Mets in New York last week. "I got kind of close and then fell off right at the end, but it was definitely good to go and throw the most that I had thrown in a season."Yet, there was still more to accomplish heading into 2026, and while May came into the season feeling good, the early results were not kind to him. In his first three starts of the year, May had a 9.45 ERA while posting an underwhelming 17% strikeout rate and 7.4% swinging strike rate (SwStr%). It seemed like the 28-year-old was heading for another disappointing season before he made a small pitch mix change, leaning into his cutter more than he had in years. Over the first three starts, May threw almost 31% four-seam fastballs and just 11% cutters. Over his next 11 starts, he has reduced his fastball usage to 25% and upped his cutter usage to 24.5%. Since then, May has a 2.63 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 24.1% strikeout rate, and nearly 11.1% SwStr%. "It was just kind of something where we liked the shape of [the cutter], and we didn't think we were using it enough," explained May. "Then once I started to use it more, it definitely weakened contact a lot. I feel like it's a very good, 'get me back into count' pitch. I feel like it's a good get-me-out-of-a-jam pitch. It's been big for me so far."May's belief that his cutter weakened contact is backed up by the data as well. On the season, the pitch has given up far less hard contact than his four-seam fastball. May has a 25% Ideal Contact Rate (ICR) and 3.3% barrel rate allowed on his cutter compared to a 41.3% ICR and 6.8% barrel rate on the four-seamer. Because of May’s lower arm slot, his four-seamer has below-average vertical movement and a lot more horizontal movement than normal. That's a problem for lefties because the four-seamer will tail out over the plate a bit more, kind of like a sinker. As a result, lefties hit May’s four-seamer harder and swing and miss less often, which is why, over this recent stretch, May has made his cutter his primary fastball to lefties, throwing it nearly 30% of the time, while knocking his four-seam usage down around 26%. Specifically, the cutter has been a pitch that he’s able to use 67% of the time early in counts to lefties and get ahead, which then sets up his sweeper, which has a 32% PutAway Rate to lefties this year (that measures how often a two-strike pitch results in a strikeout). The cutter has provided May with more value than just weakening contact against lefties. In this 11-start stretch, he’s also throwing the cutter 16% to righties, using it early in the count 71.4% of the time. Despite it being an early-count pitch for righties, it actually has a 23% swinging strike rate over these last 11 starts, likely because May is so sinker and four-seamer focused to righties that when he throws a cutter that’s four mph slower than his other fastballs and with a different movement profile, hitters are lost: "Righties are probably so geared up for the sinker in, so anything that's kind of starting in the same line and then just kind of holds it and kind of darts left at the end instead of barreling it on their hands, they're probably like, "Oh s@#t, like I gotta swing, like that's in the zone, and then it's like already too far."Not only has the cutter itself gotten additional whiffs for May, but it has also improved his four-seamer performance as well. In this 11-start stretch, May's four-seamer is allowing just a 27% Ideal Contact Rate to righties and has not given up a single barrel. He's also gotten more swing and miss on the four-seamer, with a 14% SwStr% to righties, mostly because he’s locating it up in the zone over 70% of the time during this run. As May explains, the four-seamer has "a pretty similar spin profile [to the cutter], so coming out of the hand, it looks pretty much the same. Then it holds its line a little bit better, so I feel like throwing it in the relative locations that the cutters are, which is more targeted at the upper zone, I feel like it opens up a lot." In this case, elevating the four-seamer over the top of the cutter has opened up plenty of whiffs for May against right-handed hitters. That deliberate attention to location has been a focal point for May this season: "I for sure think it's location-based for me at the moment. The heater's been playing very well, and being able to know where I want to throw it, getting it into location, has been good. So, I'm just trying to tack onto that." In fact, May is getting more strikes on all three of his fastball variations this season. His sinker may have a slightly lower zone rate, but the strike rate has gone from 68% last year to 73% this year. Similarly, since the cutter is inducing more whiffs, its zone rate is down, but its strike rate is up from 66.7% in 2025 to 73.1% this year, and the four-seam fastball has improved in both, with a 3.5% increase in zone rate and a 8.3% increase in strike rate. If you wanted to use Location+, which is a FanGraphs stat that measures a pitcher's relative success in hitting his spots, May's four-seam fastball Location+ has improved from 92 last year to 102 this year (99 is average), and his cutter has gone from a 91 Location+ to a 112, which is a massive shift. That improvement is not lost on May, who knows that his recent success is because he's "locating [his] heaters pretty well, trying to keep a good mix with those, and just trying to figure out the good spots to throw the breaking balls." It's those breaking balls that have been a larger struggle for May over his career. In part, May's struggle with his breaking balls has been because of just how much they move. It's a bit of a gift and a curse. May gets tremendous movement on his breaking balls, but that means he constantly needs to think about where to target them so that they land close enough to the strike zone to induce a swing. Last year, May's most-used breaking ball was a sweeper, which had a Stuff+ grade of 108 (99 is also average) but a Location+ of just 96. The pitch had nearly 18 inches of horizontal run at 85 mph and seemed like it should have killed righties, but it had a below average 11.7% SwStr% against them in part because the zone rate was just 1.4% above average, and the strike rate was 2% above league average for a sweeper. He also had a 6.7% mistake rate on the pitch, which was 2.5% above league average and is supported by the fact that May threw far more middle-middle sweepers than average. He had the same issue in 2023 when his most-used breaking pitch was a curveball that had 15 inches of horizontal movement at 86.2 mph. It was really just an earlier iteration of his current sweeper, but it had a Stuff+ grade of 136 and a Location+ of 85. That season, May had just a 17th percentile strike rate on his curveball, so it posted just an 8% SwStr% despite its elite movement profile. "The sinker, the heater, the cutter, are all pitches I'm kind of able to kind of throw kind of where I want to," admitted May. "I'm still trying to figure out how to throw the slider like I was last year, because last year was super easy out of hand, but it's been pretty bad so far this year." Last year was the first year that May threw his new slider. He scrapped his curveball last year and tweaked it into more of a sweeper, taking off over one mph but adding about three inches of horizontal movement and removing about an inch of drop. Last season, that new sweeper became his most-used pitch overall at 39.3% and posted a 44.3% zone rate and 61.5% strike rate, as mentioned above. This season, that zone rate has fallen to 36.8%, but the strike rate is only slightly down to 58.4% in part because he's getting far more swings and misses on it. Dustin May finishes the first complete game AND shutout of his career pic.twitter.com/tXWltetICr— MLB (@MLB) June 16, 2026This is where a fresh approach can help. May is now on his third team in the last year after being traded from the Dodgers to the Red Sox in July and then signing with the Cardinals over the winter. With each new organization comes new coaching staffs and new ideas for how to attack hitters or utilize a pitch mix. In May's case, moving to the Cardinals didn't mean a drastic overhaul of his arsenal but simply new discussions about how to optimize it. "My pitch shapes are kind of what they are; they're good, so there hasn't been any talk for anything shape-wise," he revealed. "It's just more so usage-wise, and trying to figure out the right time to use [a pitch], and the ability to like get back into counts or get ahead in counts, and then finish it off."The added swing and miss on his sweeper has likely been tied to that shift in usage. Even if May is not happy with the feel and location of his sweeper, seeing a 15.6% swinging strike rate on the pitch after posting an 11.7% mark last year is encouraging. A big part of that is because May has leaned into it as his two-strike pitch, throwing it 49.2% of the time in two-strike counts this year versus 34.3% last year. The biggest jump has come against lefties, where he is using it nearly 55% of the time as a two-strike offering to them, after doing so 33% of the time last year. May has been able to utilize this approach because his curveball has been a nice surprise for him after bringing it back this season. The pitch is now 83 mph (down three mph from 2023 when he last used it), with 10 inches of horizontal movement and nearly 19 inches of drop, meaning that May has made it more of a vertical breaking pitch to pair with his more horizontal sweeper. It's a pitch May uses only 7% of the time this season, but it's one he believes has been a key to his success."I feel like the curveball opens a lot of doors, and I'm very fine with where my arsenal is at right now, and how it's playing," May admitted. "Being able to flip a curveball in for an early strike, and then trying to get a swing and miss with the sliders... That was kind of the whole idea behind it; it was never like 'Let's use this as like a big pitch for this year,' but it's been really good, so it's definitely opened up some eyes for myself. If I can locate this, then I'm definitely gonna get some swing and miss on it, so just being able to kind of feel that out as the year's gone on and kind of find the right situations to throw it and not overexpose it."That last part is crucial to May's maturity as a pitcher. It would be easy to understand why a pitcher would see a pitch performing well and decide to keep throwing it. Make the hitters show that they can hit your pitch. However, May has come to realize that some pitches are better in complementary roles. The curve is one of those pitches. It has been hit relatively hard this year, with a 50% Ideal Contact Rate allowed and a .400 average and .459 wOBA; however, it also has a 22% called strike rate against lefties, over 4% better than league average. He uses the pitch 75% of the time early in a count to lefties and can steal those key strikes to get him ahead in the count; yet, relying on it too much would leave him open to allowing more hard contact. "I feel like the, the more that I would expose [the curveball], the more that it would probably show that it's not needed to be thrown that much, and it's more of like, oh, there it is, and then it's more just to keep it in their head."Right now, May is certainly in hitters' heads. He has always been an imposing figure on the mound, with his lanky frame, wild hair, and elite pure stuff; yet, the results have never matched the image. His strikeout rate during his entire Dodgers career was just over 22%. He had only twice posted a swinging strike rate over 10%, and it was in two seasons where he didn't even pitch more than 30 innings. Yet, here he is with an 11-start stretch where he's missing bats comfortably above the MLB average and pitching like one of the better arms in baseball."I'm always an open ear to listen to stuff, but I feel like I've got a pretty good knowledge about myself to figure out what's good and what's bad. When I'm going good, I know I've got good stuff."At this point, it would be hard for anybody to disagree.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJoseph Woll trade grades: Who won the Flyers and Maple Leafs deal? It's only been a few days since we saw the Stanley Cup awarded to the Carolina Hurricanes, but the rest of the league is not content to sit on its laurels as the offseason begins. On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs made a swap of backup goaltenders and depth defensemen, with netminder Joseph Woll headed to Philadelphia in the deal. It's not a major trade by any means, but it's certainly one of significance for the two clubs as they work to improve their teams for the upcoming season. The Flyers and Maple Leafs are no stranger to making trades either, as in recent years Philadelphia sent veteran forward Scott Laughton to Toronto at the 2025 trade deadline for a first-round pick and a prospect in return. So, with the dust settling on this deal, let's take a look at the details between this player swap between the Flyers and Maple Leafs and hand out grades accordingly!Flyers and Maple Leafs trade detailsPhiladelphia Flyers get: G Joseph Woll, D Simon BenoitToronto Maple Leafs get: G Samuel Ersson, D Emil Andrae, 2026 third-round pickFlyers trade gradeThe Flyers get the best player in this trade in Woll, who now slots behind Dan Vladar in net as Philadelphia's backup. While Woll dealt with an injury in the 2025-26 season which caused him to play just 39 games this year, the 27-year-old goaltender has shown promise. In his last three seasons with 20-plus games played, Woll has posted a .904 save percentage and a 54-41 record with the Maple Leafs.Benoit is a big-body defenseman and is certainly a depth piece for the Flyers as they continue to make tweaks to their blue line. However, Woll will for sure make the biggest impact on the Flyers going forward as general manager Danny Briere has put together a pretty solid goaltender tandem with a Vladar extension looking likely this offseason.Grade: B+Maple Leafs trade gradeErsson is a worse backup option than Woll, but is a current RFA so he's likely not going to be Toronto's second netminder outside of the short-term. In four seasons with the Flyers as a starter and backup, Ersson has an .884 save percentage and a 65-50 record and will do just fine slotting in behind Anthony Stolarz. On the other side of this defense swap, Andrae is a small body but works hard and has a high motor. It's quite possible that if he develops right, Andrae could be the steal of this trade for the Maple Leafs, but the 24-year-old has work to put in to reach his potential.Overall, the Maple Leafs are slightly worse off than they were before this trade, but acquiring a third-round pick as well is still a fine grab all the same.Grade: CThis article originally appeared on For The Win: Joseph Woll trade grades for Flyers and Maple Leafs deal0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKonrad Laimer nearing Bayern Munich contract extensionKonrad Laimer nearing Bayern Munich contract extensionKonrad Laimer’s contract saga appears to be coming to an end. According to a report by Kicker, the financial differences have been resolved and a broad agreement has been reached with the Austrian on the verge of signing an extension beyond 2027.Discussions between Bayern, Laimer and his entourage have been ongoing for around eight months and had made good progress, but financial differences became a problem which resulted in a break in negotiations. However, Kicker now report that productive talks have since resumed and an agreement is expected to be announced soon.Although Laimer had no intention of leaving Germany’s record champions, Bayern were ready to sell should they not find a middle ground, rather than losing the 29-year-old on a free transfer in 2027. With several details still to be resolved, Barcelona remain optimistic that an agreement for Salinas can be finalised in the coming weeks.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 19 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
