SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNotre Dame football misses on 5-star LB who commits to Texas A&MRecruiting is a whirlwind affair, and unfortunately Notre Dame football experience that with 2027 5-star linebacker Kaden Henderson. Just over a week ago, the 6-foot, 2-inch and 220-pounder dropped home state Miami, and it looked very much like he was headed to South Bend. However, over the last few days Texas A&M had emerged as his top option, and on Thursday afternoon he committed to the Aggies. This clearly wasn’t how the Irish wanted Henderson’s recruitment to go, as he was set to make his official visit to South Bend this weekend, but now won’t be happening. You had to wonder how the timing of Henderson’s commitment would effect his decision, as Texas A&M convinced him to move up his previous time frame and essentially put an end to Notre Dame’s pursuit of the talented linebacker. As of right now, the Irish do not have a linebacker committed in its 2027 class, as the one’s previously verballed have since decommitted. The next few weeks will be interesting as to how Notre Dame tries to fill those spots in its class. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHunter Biden skewers Joe Rogan over UFC White House praise, demands ‘cage match’ against Donald Trump Jr.CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 16: Joe Rogan reacts after a middleweight title bout between Dricus du Plessis of South Africa and Khamzat Chimaev of the United Arab Emirates in UFC 319 at the United Center on August 16, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Geoff Stellfox/Getty Images) | Getty Images UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, who helped call the action for the UFC White House event last weekend on the South Lawn in Washington, DC, has been gushing for the millions of views it generated on the Paramount+ digital network. The actual viewership numbers have yet to be verified, but far be it from Rogan to jump the gun or misreport data before it’s been authenticated.Either way, don’t expect Hunter Biden to STFU about it.“Dear Joe, I wish I could sit down with you face to face and explain why so many of us were offended by the UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House,” Biden wrote on social media. “For me, it had nothing to do with the UFC or who showed up for the fights. More power to you. As for the fighters, in my book, anyone brave enough to put it all on the line in the arena is remarkable to witness. Their dedication and discipline inspire me. I don’t understand anyone who can’t admire that.”“And as for the people who attended, I, for one, love Shane Gillis,” Biden continued. “I think he’s hilarious and brilliant. It was a show. A once-in-a-lifetime spectacle. I can’t blame anyone for wanting to witness it firsthand. My problem is that I believe some of our public spaces are sacred. And unlike many of the great powers that came before us, these American monuments belong to all of us. Not to whoever happens to hold power at the moment. The White House does not belong to Donald Trump. It does not belong to any President. It belongs to the people.”Hunter Biden is the second son of former president Joe Biden.“To treat it as Caesar treated the Colosseum is antithetical to everything our founding fathers fought for,” Biden said. “This is not Rome. Presidents are not emperors doling out bread and circuses for the peasants. The White House is the People’s House. This ‘celebration’ could have happened in any stadium within a stone’s throw of the South Lawn. No one would have had an issue with it. But that was obviously Donald Trump’s whole point. By holding the event on the South Lawn, what he was saying to the rest of us is: ‘This is my house. I own it. I will do with it what I please. I’ll build a colosseum and have the gladiators fight under my gaze. I’ll tear down the East Wing. I’ll pave over the Rose Garden. I’ll cover everything in gold and marble. I’ll erase the names of all the men who came before me.’ The fights were an exhibition of imperial domination, not a celebration of our 250th anniversary as a democracy.”“The White House is not Buckingham Palace,” Biden added. “It is not the Palace of Versailles. It is not the Forbidden City of Beijing. It does not belong to an emperor, or a king, or a commissar. The White House belongs to us. All of us. The person who sits behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office is nothing more than an honored guest. A temporary caretaker. The President is our servant. Not our Caesar. Respectfully, Hunter. P.S. Cage match between me and Don Jr.? Your call on the venue. Anywhere but the South Lawn.”Retired UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub with the predictable (but nevertheless funny) comeback.Excuse me sir. It’s ok to snort cocaine in the White House but you draw the line with UfC fights? https://t.co/CscSgY0gdr— Brendan Schaub (@BrendanSchaub) June 18, 2026Remember kids, UFC White House is patriotic, not political.“You can make anything political if you want to,” White told TIME magazine before the event. “I love this country like anybody on the left loves this country. I love this country like anybody on the right loves this country. This is basically me spending a sh*tload of money to celebrate the 250th birthday of America, with America and the rest of the world.”And the rest of the “bored billionaires.”0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTakeaways from Michigan State basketball's training camp scrimmageAnd just like that, Michigan State basketball is back, sort of. Summer training camp for the Spartans is now underway, and MSU hosted a public scrimmage this week that showed off some new names and faces like Anton Bonke and Carlos Medlock.A few things I noticed in the highlights, which we posted below:Carlos Medlock Jr. looks like an absolute stud. Medlock navigated screens and popped out for multiple nice-looking jumpers, and even blew by Jeremy Fears Jr. for an impressive layup. You don't want to overreact to one clip, but expect him to play a role this year, finally giving Fears the backup point guard this team has needed for years, and then some. It's great to see Kaleb Glenn healthy. They took their time with his rehab, and it looks like it's about to pay off. He looks great.I liked to see Coen Carr being assertive with the ball and driving to the basket. He's at his best as a secondary ball handler, using his strength and athleticism to get to the basket. This is no knock on him, and this was kind of expected, but don't be surprised if prized recruit Ethan Taylor takes a redshirt this year. Even in a short clip, you can see that his defense needs some work, but that's as expected. It's a little eerie to see Anton Bonke in the Carson Cooper role that MSU has always loved out of their centers, passing out of the center of the three-point line. Bonke should be able to add some dynamism to that position, since he is expected to be able to stretch the floor this year and shoot it.Week 1 underway 🏀 pic.twitter.com/lFyEPUjzUP— Michigan State Men's Basketball (@MSU_Basketball) June 18, 2026Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan state news, notes, and opinion. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWahi granted Canadian visa for Ivory Coast World Cup match after delaySeveral media reported that Elye Wahi (L) had been questioned by French prosecutors over suspicions of spot-fixing in a Ligue 1 match (CHARLY TRIBALLEAU)Ivory Coast forward Elye Wahi has been authorised to enter Canada for his country's second World Cup match against Germany, after initially being denied a visa over reported spot-fixing allegations, a source close to the player said on Thursday. The Ivorian football federation (FIF) had earlier announced Wahi would miss Saturday's game in Toronto. The FIF gave no reason for his initial visa refusal. But later on Thursday a source told AFP that Canada had delayed Wahi's visa authorisation after requesting further information regarding his legal situation, before rubber-stamping his entry.Several media reported that Wahi had been questioned by French prosecutors over suspicions of spot-fixing in a Ligue 1 match while he was playing for Nice. The case revolves around a yellow card which Wahi picked up in a 0-0 draw with Metz on the final day of the season in mid-May, after betting authorities had noticed an unusual volume of bets being placed on the 23-year-old receiving a yellow card. The French football league (LFP) announced on Wednesday that it had lodged a complaint to police for "facts which could constitute sporting fraud and organised corruption".The public prosecutor's office in Marseille confirmed to AFP that "a 23-year-old professional footballer, playing in the Ligue 1 championship, was arrested on May 29, 2026 in relation to an ongoing investigation".That investigation related to "organised fraud, organised sporting corruption, receiving stolen goods and money laundering".The public prosecutor said that the player had been released but that their investigations were ongoing. The FIF pledged its support for Wahi, describing him as "an important element for the Ivory Coast national team".Wahi's lawyer, Marie Dose, said earlier the player had been questioned "for a few hours" last month but was subsequently released."Elye Wahi is therefore not facing charges at this stage and is not subject to any judicial restrictions," she added.Born in France, Wahi switched allegiance to Ivory Coast in March and started in their opening 1-0 World Cup Group E victory over Ecuador on Sunday. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Nice from German club Eintracht Frankfurt. The Elephants' final group-stage match is against Curacao in the United States on June 25.Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey missed their last-gasp 1-0 win over Panama in Toronto on Wednesday after his country failed with an appeal against his Canadian visa rejection.Partey is facing seven charges of rape and one count of sexual assault in Britain. He denies the allegations.sjd/pid/ig/bc-jc/gj0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOf R$180m spent, only one signing became a Cruzeiro starterOf R$180m spent, only one signing became a Cruzeiro starterCruzeiro’s first half of 2026 was marked by heavy spending in the transfer market, totaling R$180.5 million on signings in the January window. However, the immediate on-field return fell short of expectations: of the five players who arrived at Toca da Raposa, only one managed to establish himself as an undisputed starter in the team.Below is a breakdown of Raposa’s five reinforcements, according to ge.Gerson (R$176 million): The most expensive signing in Cruzeiro’s history, the midfielder justified the investment. He became an undisputed starter under both Tite and Artur Jorge, turning into the pillar of the midfield alongside Matheus Pereira. He played in 31 of the club’s 37 matches this year.Néiser Villarreal (No transfer fee): The young forward was the second newcomer with the most opportunities (20 matches and 4 goals). Despite being inconsistent in front of goal, he has Artur Jorge’s trust and was the hero of the 1-0 win over Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores. He is currently competing for a spot with Sinisterra.Bruno Rodrigues (Loan): He returned to the club after a direct request to SAF owner Pedro Lourenço. Loaned from Palmeiras until the end of the year, he has made 18 appearances, with one goal and two assists, serving as an option in the squad.Matheus Cunha (No transfer fee): Signed to be Cássio’s immediate backup, he took over in goal after the starter’s injury. However, he failed to impress: he conceded 13 goals in 12 matches, drew harsh criticism from the fans, and eventually lost his place to young Otávio, a promising academy product.Chico da Costa (R$5.5 million): The striker is the one who has received the fewest opportunities (14 matches, only seven of them under Artur Jorge) and has yet to find the net. With little space, he is not expected to remain at the club for the second half of the year, attracting interest from other teams. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDeion Sanders believes Travis Hunter should play both ways, all the timeLast month, Colorado coach Deion Sanders expressed disappointment that the Jaguars never contacted him regarding former Buffaloes superstar Travis Hunter. In a more recent interview, the topic came up again regarding whether the Jaguars will pick Deion's brain."They’re not going to ask me," Sanders told D.J. Saddiqi of Covers.com. "I thank God that you're asking me. The kid won the Heisman Trophy playing both sides of the ball. That's all I've got to say on that.”Deion later said a bit more, on the topic of the player(s) to whom Hunter could be compared."There's no comparison to what he's able to produce on the field," Sanders said. "It's no comparison. I can't say who I would compare him to, because I would be lessening that person. That's not fair to him or the persons that I'm comparing it to. He's different, man."The Jaguars made Travis Hunter a part-time two-way player in 2025, taking roughly two-thirds of the offensive snaps in the seven games he played and roughly one-third of the defensive snaps.A knee injury ended Hunter's rookie season prematurely, underscoring the durability concerns raised by taking practice and game reps on both sides of the ball.Yes, Hunter did it — and did it well — in college. Doing it in the NFL against the best of the best competition is a very different proposition.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJimmie Johnson Adds Another Job to His NASCAR ResumeJimmie Johnson’s NASCAR career may have entered a new chapter years ago, but the seven-time Cup Series champion continues finding new ways to stay at the center of the sport.Already balancing responsibilities as co-owner of Legacy Motor Club and an occasional Cup Series driver, Johnson is now adding broadcaster to his growing list of roles. TNT Sports announced this week that the NASCAR Hall of Famer will join its coverage team as a studio analyst during select events in the network’s 2026 NASCAR In-Season Challenge coverage. The move puts one of NASCAR’s most accomplished drivers back in front of fans in a different capacity while adding even more star power to TNT’s expanding broadcast lineup.Jimmie Johnson Will Join TNT Sports This SummerAccording to TNT Sports, Johnson will serve as a studio analyst during coverage from Sonoma Raceway on June 28, North Wilkesboro Speedway on July 19 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26.The seven-time champion said he is eager to take on the opportunity.“Joining TNT Sports is an opportunity that truly energizes me,” Johnson said. “NASCAR has given me so much throughout my career, and getting the chance to share that passion from a new perspective alongside a fantastic team of NASCAR legends is something I’m really looking forward to. TNT Sports has a long history of bringing fans closer to the action, and I’m excited to help deliver that same level of insight, intensity, and fun as part of their NASCAR coverage.”Johnson is no stranger to television work. Following his retirement from full-time Cup Series competition after the 2020 season, he spent time as a NASCAR analyst before shifting much of his focus toward helping lead Legacy Motor Club’s growth as a Cup Series organization. Now, he will return to the broadcast booth while remaining actively involved as both a team owner and competitor.TNT Sports Continues Building Its NASCAR Coverage TeamJohnson’s addition is the latest move by TNT Sports as it prepares for its second season covering NASCAR under the sport’s current media rights agreement. The network’s booth featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Letarte and Adam Alexander will return in 2026. We’re always looking for new ways to create access and bring fans closer to the sport they love.”The additions come as TNT prepares to once again air NASCAR’s five-race In-Season Challenge, which begins at Sonoma Raceway and concludes with the championship round at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Few retired drivers remain as visible across every corner of the sport as Johnson. Between helping guide Legacy Motor Club, making occasional Cup Series starts and now stepping into a national television role, the seven-time champion continues to shape NASCAR’s future long after his record-tying championship run came to an end.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

WWW.404MEDIA.COA New Fossil Discovery Just Rewrote 150 Years of Evolutionary Theory🌘Subscribe to 404 Media to get The Abstract, our newsletter about the most exciting and mind-boggling science news and studies of the week. Ancient fossils have revealed that the earliest animals to walk on land more than 300 million years ago did not experience a metamorphosis similar to modern amphibians, a discovery that rewrites the evolutionary history of terrestrial vertebrates, according to a study published on Thursday in Science Advances.Humans and all other land-dwelling vertebrates descend from four-limbed “tetrapods” that left the seas to roam on land, an evolutionary process that took tens of millions of years. If you can recall your old biology textbook, this is probably what you were taught it looked like: the pioneering tetrapods adapted to land with a life cycle similar to frogs and toads, in which an aquatic larval phase, like a tadpole, is followed by metamorphosis into an amphibious adult form. A pair of scientists at the Field Museum in Chicago looked at extremely rare fossils of hatchlings that span the “fin-to-limb” transition to identify direct evidence of this metamorphosis, such as the type of external gills seen on tadpoles. To their surprise, the researchers found no evidence of a transient larval phase in the early animals, thereby “falsifying hypotheses of an ancestral origin of metamorphosis,” according to the new study.“There's still this sense that these [tetrapods] had this gilled larva that is fundamentally and anatomically different from the terrestrial adult,” said Jason Pardo, a research associate at the Field Museum and a postdoctoral fellow at Vilnius University in Lithuania who co-led the study, in a call with 404 Media. “There are a lot of reasons why that would make sense, because it's easier to make that transition from water to land if your baby, when it hatches out of the egg, is still fish-like, more or less. Then, you have this period of transition that allows it to get itself on land.”“The problem is that we've never actually had direct evidence of that,” he continued. “The assumption has always been, ‘Of course we had a larval stage, and it would transition into an adult.’ But we didn't really have information that went one direction or the other.”To fill this gap, Pardo and Arjan Mann, the Field Museum’s assistant curator of early tetrapods and the other co-lead of the study, scoured both public museum archives and private collections for fossils that captured the early hatchling phase of primordial tetrapods. Such specimens are extremely rare because these baby animals were small and had developing bones that required ideal conditions for preservation. But Pardo and Mann were able to track down a handful of particularly intriguing fossils sourced from the Mazon Creek fossil beds in northern Illinois, which has preserved incredibly detailed snapshots of life as it existed about 310 million years ago, during the tail end of the fin-to-limb transition. These animals included two embolomeres, which were crocodile-like predators, a snake-like aïstopod, and several megalichthyid fish. Some of the tetrapods were so young when they died that their fossils preserve abdominal yolk that the hatchlings were feeding off until they were mature enough to seek their own food. This selection represents “the most phylogenetically extensive sample of stem tetrapod early developmental stages to date and a definitive documentation of stem tetrapod hatchling anatomy and life history,” according to the study.Concept art of an embolomere hatchling next to an adult. Image: Gabriel Ugueto“We've been trying to look at the smallest animals that we can get out of these sites, where we can actually get very early stage babies,” Pardo said. “This is after the initial transition from water to land, but we have animals that span that transition. We have animals that branched off before [the development of] fingers and toes, and animals that branched off after fingers and toes.” “When we started to look at these fossils, we were expecting that we were going to get something that looked kind of like a metamorphosis,” he added. “What we ended up finding is that there was no such evidence at all.” External gills, for instance, are a telltale feature of the metamorphosis observed in frogs and toads. They appear on freshly hatched tadpoles and are slowly absorbed into the body to become lungs. But the hatchlings showed no signs of these gills, or anything else on the “checklist” of a transient larval phase, Pardo said. “It was very striking that none of the structures that we would look at seemed like larval features that we would expect to see,” he said. “It was quite hard to make sense of at first because, at this point, there’s a 150-year tradition of treating these animals as amphibians.”Some of the early hatchling fossils studied by the team, including detailed preservation of eyes and soft tissues. The scale bar is 10 millimeters. Image: Jason Pardo, Arjann Mann, Lauer Foundation.“What we ended up finding is that we can't actually justify any claim of metamorphosis in those animals that are transitioning across that water-to-land transition,” he added. The results suggest that early tetrapods had the same basic anatomy, more or less, throughout their life cycle. This evolutionary strategy may have delayed the transition to land for much longer than previously assumed, as tetrapods slowly acclimated to life in a terrestrial habitat. Amphibian-style metamorphosis probably emerged well after tetrapods established their foothold on land, perhaps to maximize their colonization of diverse new land environments, rather than as a condition for getting out of the seas in the first place. In addition to overturning conventional wisdom, the fossils offer a glimpse of the ancient trailblazers that took the first steps into a new realm hundreds of millions of years ago, paving the way for the rest of us. As a result of them gradually expanding onto land, these tetrapods became the progenitors of all vertebrate land animals. The exquisite fossils even include eerily preserved eyes in some cases, gazing out from a long-lost past.“They look like they were around yesterday,” Pardo said. “You can see skin. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJacob Misiorowski wasn’t content being MLB’s hardest-throwing starter. Now he also might be the bestMILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski isn’t content with merely being the game’s hardest-throwing starting pitcher. He’s intent on becoming the best. He already may be there. The 24-year-old is hitting unprecedented velocities for a starter in MLB’s pitch-tracking era that began in 2008. Over the last month, he’s dominated unlike any pitcher in the last century.Misiorowski has allowed just one run over his last eight starts heading into his matchup with the Atlanta Braves. He says he can’t come up with a specific moment or decision that sparked this surge.“It’s more that it finally clicked,” said Misiorowski, who is 8-2 with a 1.34 ERA and 131 strikeouts to lead the majors in the latter two categories. “Everything started settling in and feeling good.”The fact Misiorowski used the word “finally” to describe an emergence in his first full major league season underscores his exacting standards.Misiorowski’s rise has Brewers manager Pat Murphy comparing him to Forrest Gump, which prompted a social media post by the pitcher his own face over the Tom Hanks movie character’s body.“It’s for sure meant to be a compliment for a guy who didn’t put in limits on himself and his naiveté,” Murphy said. “It was a factor in a positive way, where he went out and achieved whatever he set his mind to, and didn’t let the outside forces, weren’t even aware of the outside forces, and didn’t let anything hold him back.”Misiorowski was selected to the All-Star Game last season after only five starts. He struggled late last year before producing a 1.50 postseason ERA during Milwaukee’s run to the NL Championship Series. Now he’s a Cy Young Award favorite.Misiorowski is more than just a hard throwerThe eye-popping numbers most associated with Misiorowski come from the radar gun. He reached 104.5 mph — the fastest velocity by any starter in the pitch tracking era — and got to 100 mph on a record 58 pitches during the Brewers’ 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. He’s thrown 460 pitches at least 100 mph this season, already surpassing the record for a starter set by Cincinnati’s Hunter Greene with 337 such pitches in 2022.But his most impressive statistics have more to do with results than velocity.According to MLB.com, Misiorowski’s 0.17 ERA since May 1 is the best in an eight-start stretch for any pitcher since earned runs became an official statistic in 1913. Against Philadelphia, he became the third pitcher since 1900 to throw a shutout while striking out 15 and allowing no more than one baserunner.Opponents are batting just .140 against Misiorowski this season. SportRadar says no starting pitcher has allowed an opponent batting average of .166 or below over a full non-pandemic season since at least 1910. Boston’s Pedro Martinez had batters hitting .167 against him in 2000. Opponents hit .168 against Cleveland’s Luis Tiant in 1968.Misiorowski’s development into a complete pitcher should come as no surprise, considering who he grew up watching. The pitchers Miz admires most aren’t necessarily smoke throwersThe list of pitchers he admired growing up includes Adam Wainwright, Zack Greinke, Clayton Kershaw and Chris Sale. While Sale is a hard thrower and Kershaw also had outstanding velocity early in his career, Wainwright and Greinke succeeded without overpowering fastballs. They had one thing in common.“Every game, you felt like they could trust them to get a win,” Misiorowski said. “That was the big thing. You looked at those guys and they were going out there and going to perform for seven or eight innings to secure the team a win.”His appreciation for baseball history includes a baseball card collection he says numbers in the thousands, though he probably owns even more Pokemon cards.“Since I was a kid, my dad got me into it,” Misiorowski said of his baseball card collection. “It’s huge right now. I think I need to downsize it a little bit, but it’s fun.”His enthusiasm shows on the mound and in his work ethic. He devoted the offseason to upgrading his leg strength to withstand the rigors of a full season and results are showing in his improved endurance and command.“He could rest on his laurels. ‘Hey, I was an All-Star in my first year. I pitched in the playoffs. I pitched well. I can do it. I’m fine. I’ll be all right,’“ Murphy said. “Or you can say, ‘I’m going home. I’m going to get stronger. I’m going to do whatever I can do to come back and dominate.’ That’s what he’s done.”He’s stabilizing an injury-riddled rotationMisiorowski’s growth has helped the Brewers overcome numerous pitching injuries to build a comfortable NL Central lead. With Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison (8-1, 2.47) leading the rotation, the Brewers rank fourth in the majors in ERA.Over his last eight starts, Misiorowski has struck out 80 while allowing nine walks and 14 hits over 54 1/3 innings. The only extra-base hit he’s allowed over his last nine starts was a double by Houston’s Isaac Paredes on May 31.The low walk totals are notable after Misiorowski battled control issues as a rookie. He walked 31 batters in 66 innings last year, but now constantly gets ahead of hitters.“He’s winning the 0-0 and the 1-1 (counts) a lot,” pitching coach Chris Hook said. “When he doesn’t, it stands out to be like, ‘Oh, God, he didn’t win the 0-0. He didn’t win the 1-1.’ Like that’s weird, for him to go to a two-ball count.”Once hitters fall behind in the count, they have little chance. After facing him for the first time last month, New York Yankees slugger and three-time MVP Aaron Judge noted that “he’s almost basically releasing it in the catcher’s glove” due to the extension Misiorowski gets with his 6-foot-7 frame.MLB Network analyst and two-time All-Star pitcher Ryan Dempster says Misiorowski reminds him of 6-10 Hall of Fame lefty Randy Johnson in that regard because their hands seem right in front of the plate to the batter when they let go of the ball.“You can tell yourself to swing, but your brain doesn’t quite compute until it’s out of the hand,” Dempster said. “By the time it’s out of his hand, it’s already on you. I haven’t seen a fastball like this since Kerry Wood.”Wood’s career was derailed by injuries, leading to worries of hard throwers being susceptible to blowing out pitching arms. Dempster notes Misiorowski is playing in an era with lower pitch counts. Misiorowski also produces elite velocity without overthrowing.“He sure is repeating his delivery, and when you repeat your delivery, you tend to stay healthy,” Dempster said. “Guys who don’t repeat deliveries and get out of whack and something’s a little off, they struggle with that. I really think he will stay healthy, just me personally.”0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 NBA mock draft: 76ers select Arizona's Koa Peat at No. 22 overallThe 2026 NBA draft continues to approach quickly as June 23 is right around the corner. The Philadelphia 76ers hold the No. 22 pick in the draft as they were able to acquire the selection from the Oklahoma City Thunder at the February trade deadline. The pick comes via the Houston Rockets. As the Sixers head into the draft, there are a number of options they can look at as this specific draft is considered one of the deeper ones in recent history. Philadelphia should be able to land a rotation player in this draft and bring in someone who can help right away.A mock draft performed by CBS Sports has the Sixers selecting Arizona big man Koa Peat, who has been a popular selection for them at 22:The one-and-done Arizona product is among the most uncertain draft picks heading into next Tuesday. Peat had a brutal shooting showing at the combine after shooting just 7-of-20 from 3-point range all season with the Wildcats. He passed on $5 million to return to school because he's set on starting his NBA life ASAP. Peat's got great physical attributes and has probably taken a bigger reputation hit than deserved. His range could reasonably be anywhere from 16 to 28, but I think his build and style fits well with Philadelphia, who is getting a look at him this week. Philly is coming off a dispiriting playoff exit to the Knicks. Peat would be a good piece to reinforce their toughness quotient.Peat averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as a freshman for the Wildcats in 2025-26 as he was able to make an impact despite not having much of a jumper. Sixers Wire did a full deep dive on Peat, which can be read here, and looked at his strengths, weaknesses, and potential fit on the Sixers. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: 2026 NBA mock draft: 76ers select Arizona's Koa Peat at No. 22 overall0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMProjecting immediate roles for every Ravens draft pickThe Ravens entered the 2026 NFL draft looking to add immediate contributors to a roster with championship aspirations, and Baltimore once again leaned into value, versatility, and toughness. From a potential Day 1 starter in the trenches to offensive weapons who can give Lamar Jackson more answers, several rookies have clear paths to meaningful roles this fall. The Ravens do not need every draft pick to become an instant star, but they do need the class to strengthen the roster around Jackson, Derrick Henry, and a defense built to compete in the AFC North. Whether it is adding explosiveness, stabilizing special teams, deepening the secondary, or creating more competition along the line of scrimmage, Baltimore’s latest rookie class has a chance to shape the season quickly.1. Vega Ioane, G, first round, No. 14Ioane is the easiest projection in the class because his path to early snaps is already clear. The former Penn State guard gives Baltimore a physical, athletic interior blocker who can immediately compete for a starting job at either guard spot. With Tyler Linderbaum gone and the offensive line being reshaped around Ronnie Stanley, Roger Rosengarten, and a new center competition, Ioane’s arrival gives the Ravens a high-end rookie who should be expected to play right away. He did not allow a sack over his final two seasons at Penn State and drew zero holding penalties, the kind of profile that fits a team trying to keep Jackson clean while powering a run game built around Henry.2. Zion Young, OLB, second round, No. 45Young enters a deeper edge room than most second-round picks, but that does not mean his rookie role will be small. Trey Hendrickson is a projected starter, while Mike Green and Tavius Robinson are also battling for snaps, and Calais Campbell’s return gives Baltimore another veteran presence who can affect how the defensive front is structured. Young’s production at Missouri makes him too intriguing to bury. He had 23 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, and one interception in his final season, while Pro Football Focus credited him with 37 quarterback hurries and nine quarterback hits. His immediate role should come as a rotational pass rusher with a chance to earn more work if his burst and finishing ability translate quickly.3. Ja’Kobi Lane, WR, third round, No. 80Lane gives the Ravens a big, athletic target who fits what Baltimore has been trying to build around Jackson. The former USC wide receiver finished his college career with 99 receptions for 1,363 yards and 18 touchdowns, including 49 catches for 745 yards and four scores last season. His size and catch radius should give Declan Doyle another red-zone and intermediate option, especially in an offense looking to create more explosive plays without forcing everything through one receiver. Lane may not have to be a full-time starter immediately, but he should have a path to snaps in three-receiver sets and RedZone packages.4. Elijah Sarratt, WR, fourth round, No. 115Sarratt brings a different profile to the receiver room. He arrives as a productive, reliable possession target after a standout season at Indiana, where he caught 65 passes for 830 yards and 15 touchdowns for the national champion Hoosiers. His immediate value could come from route detail, contested catches, and situational reliability. The Ravens have Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Lane, and several other receivers competing for roles, but Sarratt’s polish gives him a chance to carve out snaps as a chain-moving option. He could also become valuable if Jackson and Doyle quickly trust him on third down and in condensed areas.5. Matthew Hibner, TE, fourth round, No. 133Hibner fits the Ravens because Baltimore has always placed a premium on tight ends who can move, block, and create matchup problems. The former SMU tight end appeared in all 13 games last season and started 12, recording four receiving touchdowns and multiple games with at least four catches. With Mark Andrews still leading the room, Hibner does not have to become a featured target immediately. His rookie role could come as a developmental TE2 or TE3 who earns snaps in heavy personnel, special teams, and packages designed to give Jackson another athletic target down the seam.6. Chandler Rivers, CB, fifth round, No. 162Rivers may have one of the clearest paths to early defensive snaps among Baltimore’s mid-round picks. A two-time All-ACC honoree, including a first-team selection in 2024 and second-team selection in 2025, Rivers has the profile of a rookie who can compete immediately in the slot. The Ravens have Marlon Humphrey, Nate Wiggins, and Chidobe Awuzie at the top of the cornerback room, but slot depth and sub-package flexibility are always important in the AFC North. Rivers’ quickest path to the field may be as a nickel competitor and special teams contributor, with the potential to grow into a regular defensive role.7. Josh Cuevas, TE, fifth round, No. 173Cuevas gives the Ravens another versatile tight end option, which matters in a Doyle offense that could use tight ends and H-backs to create formation flexibility. Coming from Alabama, Cuevas brings experience in a pro-style environment and has the blocking and receiving background to compete for a multi-purpose role. His immediate challenge will be separating himself from Hibner and the rest of the tight end depth. If he can contribute on special teams and handle multiple alignments, Cuevas could force his way onto the roster as a developmental piece with game-day value.8. Adam Randall, RB, fifth round, No. 174Randall is one of the more creative fits in the class. At Clemson, he became just the fourth player in program history to record at least 750 rushing yards and 750 passing yards, giving Baltimore a gadget option with unusual versatility. Henry remains the offensive tone-setter, and Justice Hill gives the Ravens a proven change-of-pace back, but Randall’s value could come from packages that allow him to line up in multiple spots. He can be used as a runner, receiver, motion player, or trick-play option, giving Doyle another way to stress defenses that already have to account for Jackson.9. Ryan Eckley, P, sixth round, No. 211Eckley has a direct path to a starting job after Jordan Stout left for the Giants. The former Michigan State punter led the FBS with a 48.5-yard average, the second-best single-season mark in school history, and he arrives with the leg strength to immediately help Baltimore control field position. For a Ravens team that values special teams and situational football, Eckley’s consistency, hang time, and ability to flip the field could make him one of the most important rookies in the class. If he wins the job, he will fill an immediate need.10. Rayshaun Benny, DT, seventh round, No. 250Benny gives the Ravens a developmental defensive lineman with positional flexibility. The 6-foot-3, 298-pound former Michigan defender played multiple spots under former Ravens defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, which should help his transition into a front that values versatility and toughness. Baltimore has established interior pieces, including Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, Broderick Washington, and Aeneas Peebles, so Benny’s rookie path may begin as a depth lineman competing for a roster spot or practice squad role. His ability to handle different alignments could be what keeps him in the mix.11. Evan Beerntsen, G, seventh round, No. 253Beerntsen is an older, experienced offensive lineman who gives Baltimore another interior option during a year of transition up front. The 25-year-old spent six seasons at South Dakota State before finishing his college career at Northwestern, and most of his work came at right guard. With Ioane expected to start and the center competition involving Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn, and Corey Bullock, Beerntsen’s immediate role is likely as a developmental guard who competes for a backup job. His experience and physical maturity should help him in camp, but his clearest path may be as a practice squad candidate who can provide depth if injuries hit.Final analysisThe Ravens do not need every rookie to play major snaps immediately, but this class was built with several obvious entry points. Ioane can start right away. Eckley can win the punting job. Young can help the pass rush. Lane and Sarratt can give Jackson more options. Hibner, Cuevas, and Randall can add flexibility to the offense, while Rivers has a real chance to compete in the slot. Benny and Beerntsen are longer-term trench pieces, but both fit Baltimore’s preference for physical, developmental depth. That is what makes the class interesting. The Ravens already have star power, but the margins in the AFC North are tight. If this rookie group supplies even a handful of immediate contributors, Baltimore’s draft class could become more than a future investment. It could become part of the reason the Ravens stay in the championship conversation this season. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Where each Ravens rookie fits entering training camp0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJared Verse already making a strong first impression with BrownsJared Verse only spent two years with the Los Angeles Rams but it didn’t take very long for him to become a leader in the locker room. The outspoken pass rusher was well-respected and beloved by his teammates, something that hasn’t changed whatsoever in his brief time with the Cleveland Browns so far.It hasn’t even been a month since the Rams traded Verse but he’s already made a strong first impression with his new team. His defensive line coach, Jacques Cesaire, told Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com that Verse has already fit in as if he’s been with the team for five years.“The great thing about (Verse) is, I asked him, ‘Hey, what do you expect out of this? What do you want to do here?’ defensive line coach Jacques Cesaire said last Thursday on the final day of mandatory minicamp. “And the first thing he said is, ‘I want to make sure that I play so hard that everyone around me eats.’ He’s like, ‘I’m a team guy, coach.’ And right when he came in the room, obviously it’s going to be an adjustment for everybody.“Alex Wright told me he’s been with Myles his whole career. Now all of a sudden here’s this new guy and honestly, it’s been like Jared has been here for five years. That’s how cool he is, how much of a team-first guy that he is and I’m excited about just his leadership, his development. He’s told me he has a lot to work on and we’re going to keep working together and I’m just really excited to see what he can do.”Verse told Andrew Siciliano that shortly after he learned he was being traded to the Browns, he started watching film of his new teammates. He checked out tape of Carson Schwesinger, the Browns’ top linebacker and reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year, as well as Wright. He was excited by what he saw and couldn’t wait to get started.Jared was doing his research 🧑💻check out BPA ➡️ https://t.co/ORJqIK72wipic.twitter.com/yyIeLtKMSb— Cleveland Browns (@Browns) June 18, 2026Verse has a punishing bull rush that he uses often, but the Browns want to add some “different wrinkles” to his repertoire to make him a more diverse pass rusher. And they’re confident that when they do, “it’s going to be a show,” Cesaire says.“Jared, he does have a nice repertoire right now,” Cesaire said. “We’re going to add a couple of little different wrinkles to it, but I love what he does best, which is just smash people, and that guy loves violence and he has a lot of speed and I know that when he comes out here, when we get the pads on, it’s going to be a show.”There's no lack of excitement about Myles Garrett in Los Angeles, but Verse is still a tough player for the Rams to lose – both on the field and in terms of being a locker room guy. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Jared Verse making strong impression with Browns after Rams trade0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC's Tim Means has child abuse charge dropped after witness nonappearanceProsecutors have dismissed the child abuse charge against UFC fighter Tim Means. On Monday, the Bernalillo County (N.M.) District Attorney's office dropped the charge after a witness did not appear in court, records confirmed after an initial report by New Mexico local news outlet KRQE. The charge was dismissed without prejudice via nolle prosequi, meaning the DA's office could refile.Means, 42, was arrested April 22 after police said he head-butted his 17-year-old daughter, grabbed her by the throat, threw a potato at her face, and punched her.Means told police he only grabbed his daughter in order to stop her from attacking him. The altercation stemmed from an argument over house chores in Tijeras, N.M.“Let it be known that there were visible hand and red marks on neck, indicating she was strangled,” the police complaint reportedly stated. “There was blood on and in her nose where she was head-butted and several red marks indicated she was hit in the face and on her cheek.”Nicknamed "The Dirty Bird", Means (33-17-1 MMA, 15-14 UFC) is one of the longest-tenured fighters on the UFC roster. He hasn't competed since October 2024, when he lost to Court McGee in what was his 30th promotional appearance. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMChicago White Sox are proving that they're not just fun -- they're one of the American League's bestIt’s not supposed to happen this quickly. Not long ago, the Chicago White Sox were coming off a 121-loss season with little to look forward to. But less than two years from that forgettable time in Sox history, a team of young and hungry players looking to turn the tides on the South Side has emerged. And they’ve emerged not just as a good team but also as one of the American League’s best. “You should stop thinking of this as a surprise,” White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery said this week. “Because we're consistently winning, we're consistently in every game. ... It doesn't matter what team it is, we're not going to overlook them. We're going to go out there, and we're gonna just try and play our ball. I think those days [of being a surprise] are kind of over.”So far in 2026, the White Sox have been arguably the best story in baseball. Coming off a third consecutive 100-loss season, Chicago is 38-34 and tied for first in the AL Central. It’s the team’s best start to a season since 2021, and this squad has already changed the narrative on what they can be this year.If you broke the season down into quarters, the White Sox’s first 40 games (they went 19-21) were a surprise to most. An incremental step forward was expected, but they weren’t supposed to be a team playing .500 ball. Yet in May, Chicago took off, winning 18 of 28 games. The Sox began to play inspired baseball, led by rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami, who was the first player in MLB to hit 20 home runs this season. The emergence of the team’s young core, including Montgomery, third baseman Miguel Vargas, utility man Sam Antonacci and rookie top prospect Braden Montgomery, has helped the White Sox raise their profile league-wide. The Sox’s entertaining, exuberant style of play has stood out to onlookers as they’ve continued to find their groove and hit their stride. Since May 1, Chicago is 24-17, the sixth-best record in MLB in that span. The second quarter of this White Sox season is showing that this team is not only fun but also legitimately good — and not just in comparison to a subpar American League. Unlike in their first 40 games, the White Sox have had to deal with some new challenges lately. Murakami, their best offensive player, has been out due to a hamstring strain for the past three weeks. Even so, the Sox have managed to stay afloat, going 8-7 without the Japanese star. The real test has come this month, with the White Sox getting the chance to find out what they’re made of by facing off in consecutive series against four of the best teams in baseball: the Phillies, Braves, Dodgers and Yankees. For a young team, this stretch presented an opportunity to show the baseball world they are no fluke.“We've done a great job all year of just never giving in,” second baseman Chase Meidroth said. “You know, it's one through nine, it's for nine innings … we're gonna come at you every single day.”Sure enough, the White Sox began their jaunt against the Phillies, Braves, Dodgers with some success, winning five of those eight games and taking the series against Atlanta and L.A. And while dropping the series to the Yankees (the finale is Thursday), ends this stretch on a less fun note than where they started, the White Sox’s overall performance against a group of contenders showed that they can hold their own against the powerhouses of MLB. What lies ahead for the White Sox as they enter the third quarter of their season? Well, they’ve officially put themselves in position to compete for the division. With the contenders and underperformers in the division having become clear, it looks as if the AL Central is going to be a two-horse race between the Sox and the Cleveland Guardians. The Guardians, who have won the division in three of the past four years, come to Chicago next week for a three-game set that is suddenly a battle of the Central’s two best teams. Whichever team emerges victorious from that series will have a leg up as the season reaches its midway point. But a major factor for Cleveland in the second half is that the Guardians will be without superstar third baseman José Ramirez for at least five to seven weeks as he recovers from surgery to repair a broken hamate bone. And as the White Sox gear up for a back-and-forth battle for the AL Central crown, for the first time in four years, they should be looking to add at the trade deadline. While their young position-player group is set, in the weeks to come, the front office could look to add depth to their starting pitching. Despite the first-half success of right-hander Davis Martin, Chicago’s rotation could use some reinforcements.Whether Chicago can play in October this year remains to be seen, but the White Sox’s first half has given them something to chase and reason to be optimistic as their season nears its halfway point. Going into the year, it was all about improvement, but now these White Sox have a real chance to win. They’ve given themselves a shot for more, and they’ve proven to the baseball world that they are no accident. “It doesn't matter what [people] believe. We stay with us. We believe it,” Meidroth said. “That's all that matters, and we're going to continue to put the work in. We've got a ways to go. We've got to get a lot better at a few things. We're excited. “We know where we're at, but we're not satisfied right now."0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJaguars roster: Carter Bradley looks to secure roster spotBetween now and training camp, we will be going through the Jacksonville Jaguars' full 90-man roster, previewing each player.Up next is quarterback Carter Bradley, who wears No. 10.ProfileHeight: 6-3Weight: 221Age: 26NFL experience: 2 yearsCollege: South AlabamaRecapping Carter Bradley's 2025 seasonIn late Sept. of last season, the Jaguars signed Bradley to the practice squad, where he spent the remainder of the season. As the Jaguars' third quarterback, Bradley filled the important role in practice of being the scout team quarterback against the Jaguars' first team defense. This was a role that Bradley filled quite well."He's a stud. He's awesome," said defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. "He's been so good for us in terms of giving us the exact look -- even the communication of things at the line of scrimmage. He takes it so seriously. He's got great leadership qualities at the line of scrimmage, and you can see him driving the scout guys.Campanile continued, "He really does a great job of controlling the tempo of the practice, and giving us such an accurate look of, not only what the plays are gonna be, but the pre-snap process."Looking ahead to 2026 for Carter BradleyThe quarterback room for Jacksonville is largely set in stone; Trevor Lawrence is the franchise quarterback, and in all likelihood, Nick Mullens will remain QB2. Bradley, then, will be competing with Joey Aguilar for a spot on the roster at QB3. Even without Aguilar, though, that could be difficult, as the Jags only rostered two quarterbacks in 2025 and put the third on the practice squad. The best-case scenario for Bradley actually lies with Mullens, who has struggled so far during OTAs and minicamp. If he continues to perform poorly, and Bradley turns in an exceptionally strong performance, he could theoretically leapfrog past Mullens to land the QB2 spot. However, this is a long shot, and Bradley will likely be fighting just to get on the roster at all. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars training camp preview: QB Carter Bradley0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTexas' Dailyn Swain earns invite to NBA Draft Green RoomAs many Longhorn fans have turned their attention to football, there is still a major outstanding story for the basketball team. Dailyn Swain, the Longhorn star, is set to hear his name called next week during the NBA Draft. While his stock has been a variable one, it seems there is some confidence that he’ll hear his name called on the first night. Four more players have earned green room invitations for next week’s draft, per sources:Isaiah EvansAllen GravesEbuka OkorieDailyn Swain— Jeremy Woo (@JeremyWoo) June 17, 2026For those unaware, earning an invite to the green room is generally the universal sign he’ll be a first round pick. That’s not guaranteed, of course, but the NBA seemingly believes Swain was worth the invitation. CBS Sports has Swain being drafted 18th overall to the Charlotte Hornets, joining LaMelo Ball, Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller. As the Draft has approached, most every mock draft has placed him in the first round.Swain put together a special season for Texas, leading the Horns in points, rebounds, assists and steals for the game. He’s been described as a “point forward” given his remarkable playmaking and passing ability. His ability to develop a consistent three-point shot could be what takes him to the next level in the NBA. It seems that the journey will start in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. He came with Miller from Xavier and took a massive step forward, proving he can be a true No. 1. The looks from the NBA grew as the season continued and by season’s end, it was understood he was off to the next level. If Swain hears his name called Tuesday night, it’ll be the second year in a row a Longhorn was taken in the first round(Tre Johnson in 2025). He’ll become the first of likely many draft picks during Sean Miller’s tenure at Texas. It seems, barring a late change, he’s set as a night one selection and he’ll get to walk across the stage at the Barclay’s Center Tuesday night. This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Texas Longhorns star Dailyn Swain earns invite to NBA Draft Green Room0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

APNEWS.COMU.S. lifts blockade of Iran and Iranian supreme leader endorses direct talks with American officialsVice President JD Vance points to a reporter to take a question in the James Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House, Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)2026-06-18T15:34:44Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. on Thursday lifted its blockade of Iran, and oil tankers began freely moving through the Strait of Hormuz after months of being unable to use the critical channel, as the tentative agreement to end the war took effect.Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance announced that he may postpone a trip to Switzerland that had been planned for Friday and included a ceremonial signing of the deal. The visit might have helped start talks on the next, potentially even more critical, round of negotiations between the two sides.Hours later, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtab Khamenei endorsed direct negotiations with the U.S. in a statement read by state media. It was Khamenei’s first reaction to the deal recently reached between Iran and the U.S. to end hostilities.“It is obvious that the face-to-face negotiations that will be held in the future will not mean accepting the enemy’s opinion,” he said. The supreme leader has not been seen in public since he was wounded in a strike at the start of the war. Uncertain timeline could make it more difficult to promote dealThe now uncertain timeline could raise new questions and make it even more difficult for the Trump administration to promote a deal that many in the U.S. — including some congressional Republicans — have criticized as too favorable to Tehran.“Our plan is to go to Switzerland. I don’t know exactly when,” Vance said during a briefing with reporters at the White House when asked about not flying, as planned, to the signing ceremony.“I suspect this weekend, but I’m not sure,” he added. That injected new doubt into an agreement that President Donald Trump said he signed to avoid “economic catastrophe” in the U.S. Vance’s announcement came a day after Trump signed the pact with Iran while dining with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles. The deal is slated to take immediate effect and extends a ceasefire while giving each side 60 days to hammer out broader agreements on larger issues. Read More Trump said the deal would avoid continued stress on the U.S. economy after the war caused oil prices to skyrocket, made financial markets skittish and fueled inflation. He repeatedly said he did not want to be compared to Herbert Hoover, whose policies helped exacerbate the Great Depression of the 1930s. Vance defends U.S.-Iran dealThe vice president, who was initially personally skeptical of the U.S. going to war with Iran, has increasingly become the administration’s face of the conflict and has been outspoken in defending the deal. Asked about concerns it concedes too much, the vice president said repeatedly that the accord would force Iran to “change their behavior.”Shortly before Vance said his trip was being delayed, Pakistan said it was postponing a visit by its top officials to Switzerland’s resort near Lucerne, where Islamabad was to host the signing ceremony. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and top officials had been set to make the trip, but officials said that a ceremonial signing became less urgent after both sides had already signed.Vance defended the agreement and shrugged off accusations that its rollout has been piecemeal and sometimes contradictory, saying, “I don’t think our public messaging has been chaotic.” He also offered a surprisingly blunt warning to Israel, which has pushed the U.S. to take a harder stance against Iran and launched attacks on the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon throughout the war, including just before the deal extending the ceasefire was reached. Those attacks complicated the peace efforts with Iran.Trump “is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel at this moment in time,” Vance said. “And he happens to be the head of state of the world’s superpower.”The vice president said more than 12.5 million barrels went through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night. That could further soothe oil prices that spiked during the war but have been falling since the U.S. and Iran announced a tentative deal to end the conflict. He said the U.S. easing its blockade of Iran means “honoring our end of the early part of the agreement on the military side.” U.S. Central Command said American warships “will remain in the general area to make sure that all aspects of the agreement are adhered to, obeyed and in full force and effect.” Shipping starts to pick upAt least two oil tankers left Iran and crossed the U.S. military blockade without being stopped. A merchant shipping tracking website said the ships were carrying a combined total of 3.8 million barrels of Iranian crude oil.Iranian state media said shipping had “normalized” at Iran’s southern ports but added that the strait remains supervised and under the control of the Iranian military, and transiting through the vital waterway still requires coordination.Major shipowners began moving vessels through the strait after the agreement was signed, according to maritime data company Lloyd’s List Intelligence, though Lloyd’s did not give data on how many ships have passed through the strait as of Thursday. In a media briefing, Richard Meade, editor-in-chief of Lloyd’s List, said for the first time in 110 days, ships owned by major companies are transiting the strait after effectively being marooned there since February.Tankers controlled by major ship owners Grimaldi Group, Cosco, Knutsen and NYK have passed through the strait. And two Iranian-flagged, sanctioned crude oil tankers owned by the National Iranian Tanker Company have entered the strait, according to Lloyd’s List.Phillip Belcher, marine director of Intertanko, a trade group for global independent tanker owners, said the main central route of the strait is still closed and has an estimated 80 mines that need to be cleared. But ships have been passing through the smaller northern route, which goes through Iranian waters, and the southern route, which goes through Omani waters.Agreement calls for a lasting end to hostilitiesThe U.S.-Iran deal calls for a permanent end to hostilities and starts a 60-day negotiating clock to reach a final deal on the future of Iran’s nuclear program, though Trump has left the door open to resume attacks. The agreement appears to offer Iran several benefits up front while extracting little in return. It states that Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which is believed to be buried under rubble, must at minimum be diluted under international supervision. It also says that Iran shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons — a commitment it has made previously. But beyond stating that the U.S. and Iran will negotiate over Iran’s nuclear program, other commitments still need to be worked out.The deal also waives U.S.-backed sanctions on the country, immediately allowing Iran to sell its oil freely in a major concession from Washington.Still, Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, said Thursday that the 27-nation bloc would leave its sanctions on Iran in place for now. The bloc had slapped a series of separate sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, human rights violations and the closing of the strait.“Once the conditions allow, of course, member states will discuss whether the lifting of sanctions is in place, but we are not there yet,” Kallas said ahead of a summit of EU leaders in Brussels.__Associated Press writers Munir Ahmed in Islamabad, Pakistan, Aamer Madhani in Zurich, Collin Binkley and Michelle L. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'You'll be criticised for captaincy as well': Gavaskar's candid verdict on Shubman GillShubman Gill's remarkable purple patch continued on Wednesday as the India captain produced another batting masterclass, prompting high praise from Sunil Gavaskar after India's emphatic ODI series-clinching victory over Afghanistan in Lucknow.Gill has enjoyed a stunning run of form over the past three weeks, piling up runs across formats and competitions. The 26-year-old began the sequence with a commanding century for Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 before registering his 11th Test hundred in the one-off Test against Afghanistan. He then followed an unbeaten 85 in the rain-affected ODI in Dharamsala with a magnificent 154 in Lucknow as India secured a dominant win.The latest innings came in challenging conditions and helped set up India's massive total of 402. Gill shared a match-defining 224-run stand with Ishan Kishan, who blasted 125, as the pair completely took the game away from Afghanistan.Speaking on JioStar's 'Cricket Live' show, Gavaskar said Gill's success with the bat was also having a positive impact on his captaincy."When you're not getting runs, you're not confident about making those marginal moves that come from your gut feel, like holding back a bowler who has bowled well, giving him an extra over, or moving a fielder from a certain position. That gut feel is a lot stronger when you're personally performing. But if you're not performing, even when you get a gut feel, you're apprehensive about making that call because you're worried about getting it wrong. Since you're also not performing as a player, you'll be criticised for your captaincy as well," Gavaskar said. While Gill and Kishan stole the spotlight with the bat, India's young fast bowlers also played a key role in completing the victory. Afghanistan were dismissed for 232, with rookie pacers Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav combining for five wickets.Gavaskar was particularly impressed by Brar's performance, praising both his bowling rhythm and ability to trouble batters with steep bounce."His run-up is so good, his rhythm is so good, he was hitting the deck and getting the ball to climb. The wicket he got of Gurbaz was particularly impressive because of the way that bouncer followed him. It's very accurate. It comes right at you, exactly where the batter does not want it. I think the selection committee deserves all the compliments. If you look at his stats, or his India A performances, they're okay, but not to the extent where you would say he deserved an India cap. However, the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, saw something in him, and that's why they picked him. He's also been backed by the management, which is so important,” added the former India captain.India's all-round display secured a 170-run victory and gave them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, with Gill's outstanding form continuing to be one of the biggest positives for the team.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe horror hour that set the tone for England’s worrying day against New ZealandThere will have been a few tough conversations around the England environment over the last 10 days or so; there should be more to be had after a wasteful, worrying day that has left them teetering in this Test. From a favourable position, Joe Root and his squad squandered their opportunities with bat and ball in a showing that bore a striking familiarity to their Australian misadventures of the winter.Wayward with the ball; imprudent with the bat; short of sharpness in the field – it was a day to forget for Root and the ranks against a New Zealand side that contrasted in each facet. Here, perhaps, was the enforced inexperience showing – although mistakes came from the remaining senior heads, too, with Ben Duckett shelling a simple-enough chance at deep midwicket early on and Root making more than a couple of curious captaincy calls. England endured a difficult day as New Zealand took control of the second Test (Getty)In the process, the Blackcaps were allowed to swell their first-innings score close to 400 thanks to a maiden Test century from Glenn Phillips. It had been they who had been guilty of letting things slip a touch on the first day; not so here, with a disciplined and determined performance helping them fight back into the series. If it cannot be said that they are in total control, a sizeable first-innings lead is well within reach.New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips celebrates his first Test century (PA Wire)“Being able to get it over the line was fantastic,” Phillips said, having looked to the heavens to celebrate his landmark. “It’s the anniversary of my dad’s passing tomorrow. Today was close enough for the moment to matter. He would have loved to see that. Test cricket was his favourite format, so I know he was watching at some stage.“The boys kept coming back spell after spell. England got away to a good start, so to be able to peg them back with a few wickets at the end was a really nice reward.”It really was a horror hour to start the day from England, one that cost them 74 runs in a 12-over span that featured a squandering of the new ball, a simple dropped catch and what felt like a handful of peculiar decisions. Twenty-seven of those 74 came in the three overs that preceded the availability of a fresh bit of leather as England elected, strangely, to thump in a selection of errant bouncers. Phillips went to his half-century from the second ball after the resumption and found good support from Kyle Jamieson, able to play a fine supporting hand despite being struck twice on the helmet and offering that chance to a retreating Duckett. The sight of a Barbados-born bowler being tossed a five-over old ball was not a surprise; that it was Jacob Bethell rather than Jofra Archer most certainly was. He did, eventually, strike, ending Jamieson’s innings on 41 and the partnership on 87. Onwards Phillips ploughed, though – having shown real bravery and brains to survive a hostile Archer spell on the first evening, the all-rounder made the most of the fresh morning light to cut, clap and carve his way to a first Test ton from 133 balls.Glenn Phillips helped New Zealand make a strong start as he went to his first Test ton (PA Wire)Matt Henry fell to a belatedly-introduced Archer from the very next delivery, however, and Phillips in the next over has he hoicked Matt Fisher to the legside sweeper. His even 100 was outstanding; that extras was New Zealand’s second-highest scorer spoke both to England’s profligacy and a series of squandered starts from the tourists. The hosts soon had one of their own. One could not blame Duckett, flying on 36 off 25 balls before being done like a kipper by his partner as Emilio Gay set off for a single that was never there. “I apologised as much as I could,” Gay admitted afterwards. “I probably picked out the wrong fielder – Nathan Smith is an unbelievable athlete.” Smith was accurate from short mid-off, and then from the top of his mark, pecking the edge of Jacob Bethell’s bat to reduce England to 68-2. Ben Duckett was caught short having made an enterprising start (PA Wire)Enter Root, who had been strangely peripheral during the side’s morning toil but not once he arrived at the crease. With Ben Stokes set to be back in action at Durham on Friday, the future of his temporary premiership will remain a subject of interest yet there has never been any doubt of his steadying influence with bat in hand. Root eased, effortlessly, to a fast start to compensate for a partner who had stalled with a milestone in sight. After 14 balls on 49, Gay hooked Will O’Rourke for four to go to a well-earned half-century – one he perhaps needed after his midsummer barbecue of his opening partner – but could not go on, found on review to have fended a short ball off the face into the gloves of Tom Blundell. “To get 50 and not convert it is disappointing,” Gay conceded. It seemed certain that Root would follow the left-hander to 50; he did not, thanks to a superb bit of seam bowling from Matt Henry and another error of judgement. Looking to leave, the England captain was beaten by a vicious nip-backer, a jagged little pill swallowed by his front pad while on course for the stumps beyond. With Blundell up to the stumps to discomfort a cricketing claustrophobe, a similar concoction soon accounted for Brook, LBW for 24, to leave the hosts in a huge hole.Matt Henry removed Joe Root and Harry Brook in quick succession as England struggled (Reuters)With a long tail to come, it left the partnership between debutants James Rew and Jordan Cox key. The pair are prolific domestic run-makers, and each former teammates of Henry at Somerset and Kent respectively, but as their former county colleague whirred in from the Vauxhall End, the challenge was clear. Rew should have perished to O’Rourke after top edging to Rachin Ravindra at fine leg; as it was, he was pouched by Daryl Mitchell at first slip after contorting a short ball upwardly once more. He, like England, had got himself in a spot of bother.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIs the College World Series Replacing March Madness?Every year, in the middle of winter, the NFL season has just ended, and the baseball season is usually around the corner. Still, one tournament usually takes the whole country by storm: March Madness, the biggest college championship. For all of March, the whole country’s eyes are glued to their TVs as 68 teams battle for a basketball championship. For decades, fans have viewed March Madness as the greatest collegiate tournament in the country. Every year, fans see contenders fall, and Cinderellas make unexpected postseason runs. The chaos is part of what makes the event iconic. But the 2026 NCAA Baseball tournament is changing many people’s views of the sport, even prompting some viewers to wonder: Is this better than March? This year, we have seen top seeds go down, like No. 1 overall seed UCLA, which fell in their regional, and No. 2 overall seed Georgia Tech, which fell in THEIR regional a day later. Fans across the country watched in disbelief. This was the second straight tourney where the top two seeds failed to reach Super Regionals. This year, we saw two teams make it to Omaha for the first time, a Cinderella run by Troy, and a record-breaking five SEC teams make it to Omaha (where the final eight teams play). This year has had it all, from viral singing to breakout stars. The 2026 College World Series Started With Chaos in RegionalsIn what should be called May Mayhem, chaos took over in regionals which took place from May 29 to June 1. In the four days, out of the 16 national seeds, only nine made it out. With those teams being No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 Auburn, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Alabama, No. 11 Oregon, No. 14 Mississippi State, No. 15 Kansas, and No. 16 national seed West Virginia.Nine of the 16 national seeds advanced to super regionals, but conspicuously absent are the top two. And two No. 4 regional seeds reached the supers for the first time. https://t.co/bz4h9ssDtS— Chicago Tribune (@chicagotribune) June 5, 2026Not only did we have seven national seeds fall at the start of the tournament, but also history was made for the first time in NCAA baseball tournament history. When two No. 4 seeds reached the super regionals in the same season: Little Rock and St. John’s.This is the kind of weekend that made fans go wild. Basketball has the dramatic stories of buzzer-beaters and Cinderella making deep postseason runs. They don’t win the tournament, and it’s always rare to see a mid-major school win March Madness. But in college baseball, you see mid-majors become powerhouses and Cinderellas dance their way to the championship.Cinderella Takes Center StageIn college baseball, we saw Cinderella take the stage, like when Milwaukee beat Auburn 13-8, sending Auburn to the loser bracket, or when St. John’s took down Florida State. Troy was in the running for the title until just a few days ago. Cinderellas make a living off this tournament.Just 18 years ago, the tournament saw Fresno State, a No. 4 seed (equivalent of the 15 seed or 16 seed in March Madness), win it all when they beat the No. 8 national seed, Georgia, 6-1 in Game 3 of the championship to win the school’s first men’s national title in any sport and the school’s second national title all-time after they won the 1998 women’s softball national title.Fresno State does what no other Cinderella team has done before and brings home the National Championship (2008) pic.twitter.com/HMmuyCOSIG— College Baseball Archives (@collegeplayers9) March 30, 2026While Fresno may be the best example, tons of mid-major schools have had success in the tournament. Just last year, Coastal Carolina made it to the championship game before falling to LSU. Here are the rest of the mid-majors to win the College Baseball World Series:Holy Cross (1952)Cal State Fullerton (1979, 1984, 1995, 2004)Wichita State (1989)Pepperdine (1992)Rice (2003)Coastal Carolina (2016)While it’s still rare, it’s more likely to happen than in basketball, which hasn’t had a mid-major win since 1990, when UNLV did it.This is the main appeal of college baseball. In this sport, fans believe a Cinderella can win the whole thing, and history proves they’re right. When the tournament starts, there’s always a team that’s looking to crash the party and make its run to not only Omaha but also the chance at the title as well. Why Are Fans Paying Attention to the CWS Now?While Cinderella lives, so does power conference domination, specifically the SEC, which has five of the eight teams represented in Omaha. The SEC is looking to have the tournament’s sixth-straight national champion. As impressive as this is, what the college baseball postseason delivers is an atmosphere where teams like Troy and West Virginia compete with those giants, bringing people from across the nation for playoff baseball. We have had several viral moments, like West Virginia singing “Country Roads ” on national TV.COUNTRY ROADS HITS DIFFERENT IN OMAHA @WVUBaseball gets a W in its MCWS debut! pic.twitter.com/Tam3EdaJSf— ESPN (@espn) June 12, 2026 College baseball isn’t the niche sport it was 20 years ago, when fans who wanted to watch it needed a radio, hoping the local station was covering it (like how West Virginia’s student radio, U92 the Moose, is doing now). The sport is growing, and it’s just now getting the respect it deserves. The post Is the College World Series Replacing March Madness? appeared first on The Lead.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is Juventus’ likeliest goalkeeping targetWhy Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario is Juventus’ likeliest goalkeeping targetSerie A side Juventus have faced significant challenges in the hunt to sign a new goalkeeper. As other options fade away, Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario can actually be their best possible option.La Gazzetta dello Sport note how the idea of signing Alisson has faded away. It seemed like a deal was close but the Brazilian never asked Liverpool to lower their demands. Similiar issues are being faced for Emi Martinez, who is valued at more than what Juve want to pay by Aston Villa.Atletico Madrid also demand a significant amount for Jan Oblak, leaving Tottenham’s Vicario as a viable profile. He is 29 and Spurs can give a discount, as he could already be a second-choice behind Antonin Kinsky. Vicario is also keen on returning to Italy. He has a low salary which would be quite affordable for the Old Lady, with Marco Carnesecchi also appearing as an expensive target.Juve should make formal approachJuve sporting director Marco Ottolini has had a very good relationship with Vicario’s agent Gabriele Giuffrida. This should drive a deal forward and Tottenham have shown no indication of wanting to keep him.Vicario’s chapter in London seems to be over, having also won silverware. His contract runs out in 2028, making 2026 the best time for Tottenham to sell him.Kaustubh Pandey I GIFN0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMConfirmed: Real Madrid to receive €20 million as Liverpool sign former La Fabrica wingerConfirmed: Real Madrid to receive €20 million as Liverpool sign former La Fabrica wingerFormer Real Madrid winger Victor Munoz’s future has taken an unexpected turn. The 22-year-old Spaniard has signed for Liverpool from Osasuna after the Premier League club activated his €40 million release clause. The move sees the former Real Madrid and Barcelona academy player arrive at Anfield, where new manager Andoni Iraola views him as a key addition following Mohamed Salah’s departure.€20 million for Real MadridFor a long time, Newcastle United appeared to be favourites to sign the winger. However, Liverpool moved decisively and hijacked the operation, convincing Munoz to head to Merseyside instead. The transfer also represents excellent business for Osasuna. The Navarrese club paid €5 million to sign the winger last summer and, after just one season, will pocket a substantial profit. Half of the €40 million fee goes to Osasuna, while the remaining €20 million goes to Real Madrid thanks to the agreement reached when the player left the Bernabeu.Including the original transfer to Osasuna, Real Madrid will have earned more than €25 million from a player who made just four appearances for the first team. The Spanish giants are also believed to have retained a buy-back option, ensuring they can bring Munoz back in the future if they choose, although some sources dispute this claim.A standout season at OsasunaMunoz is now a Liverpool player. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images)After making his first-tema debut at Real Madrid in 2024/25 under Carlo Ancelotti, the La Fabrica speedster signed for Osasuna last summer. Munoz enjoyed an impressive campaign with Osasuna which earned him a place in Spain’s World Cup squad. He became one of the club’s most important players, making 34 league appearances, 31 of them as a starter, and scoring six goals. His performances significantly increased his value and attracted attention from several clubs before Liverpool eventually secured his signature. And, Real Madrid, having retained 50% of the winger’s economic rights while selling him to Osasuna in 2025, profit handsomely from the operation.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COM“Heated Rivalry” stars score cheeky ads in a tougher environment for LGBTQ+ visibilityThe rising stars of the steamy, runaway HBO hit Heated Rivalry, which is about hockey players who repeatedly scored with each other, are now scoring with major advertisers too, even as Pride events struggle to hold on to sponsors. Their sculpted bottoms play important supporting roles. Related Acceptance of gay people improved a lot in the 2010s, but it’s stagnating in the 2020s. Why? Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today A short horror-style video for Verizon called “Look Behind You” features Connor Storrie, who portrayed the Russian player Ilya Rozanov on Heated Rivalry. Set at a remote cabin in the woods, a series of creepy things happen to Connor but it ends humorously on the tagline, “The Best Butt, The Best Network. There’s no escape.” Verizon CMO Leslie Berland told Marketing Brew, “There was a real spark of excitement around this idea of, ‘What if we bring together this famous butt with the Verizon 5G network and create really fun, interesting, compelling storytelling around that?’” Hudson Williams, who repeatedly revealed his muscular physique as Heated Rivalry’s Canadian Shane Hollander, now shows off his body – this time clothed – as he exercises for the internet-connected workout system Peloton. His “Let Yourself Go” ad fittingly starts off with the camera trained on his derriere as he drips with sweat through a dance-infused workout. “‘Let yourself go’ feels very in line with my beliefs,” Hudson said in the Peloton release. “It’s amazing what fitness can do for your life. I think everyone needs a form of movement that liberates them. Movement is the quickest way to get out of sticky feelings – whether that’s dancing or exercise.” [Editor’s note: Peleton removed its ads featuring Williams after the emergence of a photo of him as a high school senior with a swastika drawn on his face. Williams’ representatives said he had no idea that the symbol had been drawn on his face by others when the photo was taken. The drawings were part of a school tradition in which seniors draw on one another.] Big brands apparently weren’t scared of the spicy sex in the series, since a good number of them provided product placements, including Adidas, Corona, Doritos, Land Rover, Lays, Nike, Ray-Ban, Royal Caribbean, Tostitos, Under Armour and others. So far, neither Heated Rivalry star has publicly defined their sexuality, even though Williams has been in a long-term relationship with a woman. Yet many advertisers are showing they will still choose LGBTQ+ stars – and those playing queer characters – even amid the current conservative political climate. Verizon and Peloton are part of a pattern that signals a new era of “gay vague” advertising. Today’s spots don’t call attention to a celebrity’s queerness or queer-coded roles unless the viewer already knows. Their sexuality isn’t the point — their fame is. Feb 8, 2026; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga perform the halftime show in Super Bowl LX | Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images That resolve was on full display during this year’s Super Bowl LX, where advertisers paid a record average of $8 million for 30-second ads – many that prominently featured openly LGBTQ+ stars. The lineup of rainbow celebrities included TV host and producer Andy Cohen for Nerds Juicy Gummy Clusters, SNL comedian Bowen Yang for RITZ crackers, and pop group Katseye, whose out members include Lara Raj and Megan Skiendiel, for State Farm. Levi’s tapped Grammy-winning bisexual rapper Doechii, and Pokémon paired Young Miko, the lesbian Puerto Rican rapper with bisexual pop icon Lady Gaga. The trend extended into the 2026 Olympic Winter Games when The Hershey Company featured Jason Brown, a gay bronze-medal figure skater, in its “Happiness is the Real Gold” ad campaign with supportive messages from athletes’ parents. But future queer representation on TV could get tougher, as the climate shifts. The FCC is now evaluating whether TV ratings should flag “gender identity themes” or carry warning labels before programs featuring transgender or non-binary characters. No major corporation or media company has publicly opposed the plan, but resistance is being channeled through industry coalitions and trade groups. Public comments will be accepted through June 22, 2026. With increased federal scrutiny about DEI policies, the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Corporate Equality Index, published February, reported a 65% decline in participation by Fortune 500 companies in the survey. Accordingly, an April 2026 survey by Gravity Research of corporate executives found that 39% planned to reduce Pride engagement this year – 61% cited pressure from the White House and the broader political environment as the primary drivers. Tampa Pride and events in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Arlington, Texas have all canceled this year after punishing sponsor losses. This may explain why “gay vague” is so appealing to advertisers right now as they try to ride things out. Brands can boast queer inclusion with less of a target on their backs. Here’s hoping it’s a strategy for the moment, and not a permanent retreat. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMarcus Rashford: Rio Ferdinand performs U-turn on United aceMarcus Rashford: Rio Ferdinand performs U-turn on United aceManchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has changed his stance on Marcus Rashford’s future. The English forward is expected to leave the Red Devils permanently this summer, but his future remains unresolved at the moment. In an ideal world, Rashford should have been vying for Wayne Rooney’s goalscoring record for the English giants by now, but the reality is entirely different. The former Carrington graduate has scored 138 goals and registered 79 assists in 426 games for United to date and was once tipped to become an Old Trafford legend. Marcus Rashford Club Career StatsSource: Transfermarkt. Unfortunately, Rashford last featured for the Premier League giants in December 2024, under former head coach Ruben Amorim, who deemed him surplus to requirements. The 28 year old spent six months on loan at Aston Villa, before moving to Barcelona on another temporary deal last summer. Rashford was a revelation at Camp Nou, registering 14 goals and 14 assists in all competitions to help the Catalans win the league and the Supercopa de Espana. However, that was not enough to convince the Spanish champions to trigger the €30 million purchase option in his contract. Rashford’s future remains unclearBarcelona have since opted to secure the services of Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon, igniting talk of Rashford’s possible reintegration into United’s squad. Recent reports, though, suggest that INEOS have decided to cut ties with the Englishman this summer. Rashford has been included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup and was on the bench for the game against Croatia on Wednesday, 17 June. The United star replaced Gordon in the 72nd minute and scored in the 85th minute to help secure a 4-2 victory. Ferdinand had previously acknowledged that the Red Devils are better advised to part ways with Rashford this summer. However, the former England defender has now altered his stance on the situation. Ferdinand advocates Rashford’s United staySpeaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents after Rashford’s goalscoring start to the World Cup, Ferdinand insisted that his former club must reassess their stance on the player’s future. He said: “Manchester United might have to reevaluate Marcus Rashford’s situation.”“It seems like he has matured; the time away from the club may have done him the good that he needed, and it has cleansed both parties. Is it time to shake hands and come back?”Former United defender Wes Brown echoed those sentiments in a recent interview with The Peoples Person, where he said both parties need to apologise and sort out the matter. Barcelona spell has helped Rashford improveFerdinand, meanwhile, went on to claim that the loan spell with Barcelona has helped Rashford mature, adding: “I think with Marcus Rashford, you can see the maturity, and you can see that Barcelona phase of his career has worked out in a way that he now understands his role.”“He was given a role at Barcelona, told he would be an impact player at times, to come on and change games. At England, that is his role, and that’s a huge asset to the squad in this competition.”“When you are an opposing full-back, and you see Marcus Rashford warming up at 75 minutes, you are looking over to the bench and saying, ‘Please get my number ready and take me off, I’m subbing myself out because I don’t want that smoke’. You don’t want that smoke at the start of the game, let alone in the 75th minute.”Final ThoughtsThe Rashford saga is fast becoming an elephant in the room for United and Michael Carrick. INEOS will have to deal with the matter tactfully to ensure it does not dictate how their summer progresses. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMAngry constituents school transphobic Democrat who misgendered colleague in front of everyoneAn Erie City, Pennsylvania city councilmember who intentionally misgendered a colleague from the dais last week is suffering the backlash, with dozens of outraged constituents showing up to a Wednesday night council meeting to share their displeasure. The councilman, Ed Brzezinski, a former school board member and registered Democrat, sat stone-faced through the five-hour meeting. Related “Your time is up!”: Out mayor publicly shuts down religious homophobic troll “In this country, we have freedom of speech, but that does not mean that we have freedom from consequence,” said Savannah Wilson, an Erie resident. Brzezinski’s behavior “last meeting is permission for discrimination,” Wilson said.Brzezinski’s insult came toward the end of a heated council debate on June 9 over a bayfront redevelopment project. Council President Tyler Titus, who is out as transgender and uses they/them pronouns, cautioned Brzezinski with a reminder to limit his interruptions, Erie News Now reports. The rebukes continued at Wednesday night’s council meeting, where 58 attendees addressed his behavior during three hours of public comment in the packed council chamber, with almost all the comments directed almost exclusively at Brzezinski, Erie Times-News reported. Dozens of people spoke out Wednesday during an Erie City Council public comment session, calling for the immediate resignation or a public apology from Councilman Ed Brzezinski. https://t.co/4ndk6pz24k— JET/FOX/YourErie.com (@JET24FOX66) June 18, 2026 “Let us be clear: this was a deliberate act of disrespect and intent to harm a member of our trans community,” said trans constituent Rie Witherow. “I am misgendered daily,” they said, adding that most of those incidents are simple mistakes. Brzezinski’s outburst was not a mistake, they said, while calling on him to resign or for his colleagues to censure and strip him of his committee assignments. Erie Mayor Daria Devlin publicly apologized to Titus during her report in chambers. She said she regretted not doing more in the moment after Brzezinski uttered the words. Brzezinski said nothing through the comment period, only speaking at the end of the meeting to announce an unrelated event. “That’s it. Thank you,” he said.Titus saved their comments for the meeting’s final minutes. “Healing does not happen by pretending harm did not occur. Healing happens when we tell the truth about what happened, we take responsibility for our role in it, and we commit ourselves to building a better city,” they said. “That is my hope for this council, that is my hope for this city, and despite everything, that hope remains stronger than my anger,” Titus said. Whether or not that message sank in seemed to be answered by a meeting attendee who watched Brzezinski exit the session. “After hours of public comment condemning Ed’s decorum at the city council meeting tonight, Ed Brzezinski walked up to a young female reporter in the lobby, made smooching noises and commented that she was the only thing that kept him awake through the meeting. I heard him and he’ll have to hear me call him out at the next meeting,” social media user Sammie Voto wrote online. Councilman Brzezinski purposefully misgendered Erie’s trans nonbinary city council president last week, got yelled at by constituents for 4+ hours last night due to his actions, and then proceeded to hit on a reporter. We need him gone from council ASAP. pic.twitter.com/Scz3eLowrb— Cole (@ColeAsLife) June 18, 2026 Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Unfortunately, there isn't a slot': Ex-India captain's blunt verdict on Ishan KishanFormer India captain and ex-chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth believes Ishan Kishan possesses all the attributes needed to succeed in Test cricket, but feels the wicketkeeper-batter is currently a victim of India's crowded red-ball setup.Kishan has enjoyed a remarkable resurgence over the past few months. After spending nearly two years on the sidelines, the left-hander forced his way back into India's T20I squad ahead of the World Cup and has now marked his ODI return with a stunning century against Afghanistan. While Kishan's comeback in white-ball cricket has attracted widespread praise, Srikkanth feels the Jharkhand star is equally capable of making an impact in the longest format."I am a great fan of Ishan Kishan. From nowhere he has made a comeback (into the Indian team) and he's just doing brilliantly. I like his game. The sheer quality of his stroke play, timing, power and effortless game. Ishan is an all-format player. Actually, he can play Test cricket too. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a slot," Srikkanth told PTI.Kishan's journey back into the national side has not been straightforward. After losing his central contract in 2024 amid concerns over his participation in domestic cricket, the diminutive batter returned to the grind, working extensively on his game and featuring in domestic competitions, including the Buchi Babu Trophy.Srikkanth believes the tough stance taken by the BCCI ultimately benefited the player."BCCI did a wise thing by asking him to go play domestic cricket, which has helped him a lot.Subsequently, he captained Jharkhand to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph."While discussing India's selection dynamics, Srikkanth pointed to another player he feels has not received enough opportunities across formats despite consistently proving his credentials. The former selector described Yashasvi Jaiswal as a complete all-format cricketer but believes the opener has been unfortunate to miss out on regular chances in white-ball cricket because of the intense competition at the top of the order."For example, Yashasvi Jaiswal is an extraordinary cricketer. I think he is an all format cricketer. But he is only utilized in Test cricket. Even in the last match or series against South Africa, he scored a century in one of the one dayers."And he has centuries in major Test playing countries like England and Australia. I think he is amazing in T20 cricket also. I think it's just his bad luck that he is forgotten for the shorter formats of the game," the 1983 World Cup winner said.According to Srikkanth, the abundance of top-order talent has made team selection increasingly difficult, particularly when it comes to opening spots."That's the problem in the opening slot especially. It goes like a merry-go-round. Sometimes you are there, sometimes you are not there, sometimes somebody else fills in your place. You find it difficult to come back. That's part of cricket. But I think Jaiswal is an all-format player."Srikkanth also expressed concern over what he described as a lack of continuity in selections, arguing that strong performances are sometimes forgotten too quickly because of the relentless international calendar."Unfortunately, what is happening is, some players get a chance and then sometimes they are forgotten also, which should not happen. There should be continuity. But unfortunately, what is happening also, too much of cricket being played. So, we forget what happened in the last series also," Srikkanth said.Despite those concerns, the former chairman of selectors praised the current selection panel and its chairman Ajit Agarkar, while suggesting that more opportunities should be created for deserving domestic performers."There are some players despite doing so well in domestic cricket, they don't find a place in the Indian side. I think that is one correction the selection committee has to make though Ajit Agarkar has been doing a brilliant job as a chairman."But Test cricket is the ultimate format for any cricketer. So, in Test cricket, probably we will have to make some adjustments (change of approach)," Srikkanth said.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 18 Views 0 previzualizare
