France set to make three changes for Iraq game
France set to make three changes for Iraq gameFrance beat Senegal in their FIFA World Cup opener. For Les Bleus’ second Group Stage game, Didier Deschamps is expected to make three changes to his side, as per a report from L’Équipe. The animation of France’s attack was criticised in the first half, prior to bringing Michael Olise into the No.10 position. The Bayern Munich forward is expected to occupy that role from the start, with Ousmane Dembélé pushed out to the right. On the left, there could be a change. Paris Saint-Germain’s Désiré Doué struggled to make an impact and he could be replaced by the more dynamic and direct Bradley Barcola, L’Équipe understands. Behind him, there could also be a change, with Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne coming in for Théo Hernandez, whilst AS Roma’s Manu Koné is touted to replace Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni in the midfield. He will slot in alongside AC Milan’s Adrien Rabiot.GFFN | Luke Entwistle

The Morning Memory: Hello, Nick Chubb
ATHENS, GA - AUGUST 30: Nick Chubb #27 of the Georgia Bulldogs carries the ball for a fourth-quarter touchdown against the Clemson Tigers at Sanford Stadium on August 30, 2014 in Athens, Georgia. (Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images) | Getty Images Happy Saturday morning ‘Dawg fans. I don’t know how you plan to spend your weekend. I hope you make smart decisions. But whatever decisions you make, it’s unlikely that they’ll be better than the decision to give the ball to freshman Nick Chubb on a toss sweep against a Clemson defense that’s already been tenderized by a heavy dose of Todd Gurley:That was Nick Chubb’s first college touchdown, during the game in which the Georgia Bulldog offense pounded Dabo Swinney’s Clemson defense to the point that they just didn’t want to play football anymore. The Ground Hound from Cedartown would score 44 rushing touchdowns over the course of his career in the Classic City. And in retrospect that outcome seems like a foregone conclusion after watching that first one. Freshmen aren’t supposed to do that against elite competition. In that 2014 season opener Todd Gurley set a UGA single game record for total yards with 293. 100 of those came on a kickoff return to which I am certain we will return ere the summer, and this series with it, ends. Go ‘Dawgs!!!

Miguel Almiron becomes first player sent off for covering mouth at World Cup
Miguel Almiron became the first player to be sent off for covering his mouth during an altercation with an opponent, but Paraguay clung on for a 1-0 World Cup win over Turkey. The former Newcastle player was dismissed following a VAR review in first-half stoppage time. Almiron had covered his mouth while speaking to Turkey’s Mert Muldur.PARAGUAY DOWN TO 10 MEN 🟥Almiron becomes the first player to get a straight red card for covering their mouth at the World Cup pic.twitter.com/ru2GNZifkx— ITV Football (@itvfootball) June 20, 2026Any player covering their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may now be sanctioned with a red card. The rule change came is in light of the controversy surrounding Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr in a Champions League game in February. Prestianni covered his mouth during a confrontation with Vinicius, who accused him of racist abuse. This was unable to be proven but Prestianni received a six-game ban from Uefa for homophobic conduct. Miguel Almiron could not believe his dismissal by referee Ivan Barton (Reuters)“If the conversation is friendly, they can continue to do it without any problem,” refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina explained. “When the conversation is confrontational, covering the mouth means that you are doing something very wrong, potentially, and the sanction is the red card.”Matias Galarza gave Paraguay a second-minute lead as he collected a pass from Julio Enciso and fired a low effort into the bottom corner from 20 yards. With both sides having lost their opening game, there was plenty at stake at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium and the tension soon led to a fiery encounter.Mert Muldur’s header from a free-kick hit the crossbar and post before bouncing away as Turkey came close to a 33rd-minute equaliser.Given their numerical advantage it was no surprise that Turkey dominated the second half, with Orlando Gill saving from Abdulkerim Bardakci.Enciso fired a good chance wide on the counter attack while Can Uzun missed from six yards out at the other end.Needing a goal to maintain any chance of progressing, Turkey became increasingly desperate as Gill denied Uzun and Deniz Gul put the rebound off target. Merih Demiral headed a stoppage-time effort wide as defeat saw Turkey eliminated.PA

Barcelona’s tailored ‘mini pre-season’: Flick and his staff set homework for players
Barcelona’s tailored ‘mini pre-season’: Flick and his staff set homework for playersPreparations for the new season are already under way at Barcelona, even though many first-team players are still away on World Cup duty. With the squad set to reconvene at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on 13 July, Hansi Flick and his coaching staff have put in place a specific physical programme to ensure everyone returns in the best possible condition, reports SPORT.With several senior players unavailable, a large group of youngsters from Barça Atletic and the Under-19 side are expected to begin pre-season with the first team. Many of them have already started training individually during their holidays or from home.Personalised plans before reportingAs per the report, Barcelona’s fitness coaches have provided players with tailored programmes designed to be followed around 10 to 15 days before the official start of pre-season. The objective is to reactivate muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness and strengthen the areas of the body most exposed to the demands of intense training, particularly the lower limbs.Flick and his staff have designed specific plans for players. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images)The aim is to prepare players for the double sessions that await them at Sant Joan Despi and to ensure they can cope with the heavy workload from the outset.Learning from last year’s injury problemsOne of the main goals is injury prevention. Barcelona are keen to avoid a repeat of last summer, when Ibrahim Diarra suffered a serious hamstring injury just days after pre-season had begun.Several of the youngsters expected to report on 13 July have already started following these routines. Tommy Marques has been seen training at a specialist centre in the Algarve, while Alvaro Cortes has been combining his holidays in Andalusia with gym work and individual sessions.Orian Goren, Guille Fernandez, Toni and Alex Gonzalez, who joined from Damm earlier this year, are also working through their personalised plans. They will be joined by first-team players who are available from day one, including Alejandro Balde, Gerard Martin and Wojciech Szczesny, all of whom are following the same strengthening programme.More youngsters set for their chanceThe list of academy players expected to work under Flick continues to grow. Ebrima Tunkara will do pre-season with first team. (Picture credit: Instagram/@ebrimatunkara10)In addition to those already mentioned, Ebrima Tunkara, Oscar Gistau, and Xavi Espart, who is currently competing in the Under-17 European Championship, are also in line to begin pre-season with the senior squad. The demands will be high from the very beginning. Barcelona’s first friendly matches are scheduled just two to three weeks after the start of training, meaning there will be little time to ease into preparations.Double sessions and heavy physical loads are expected, making this early conditioning programme crucial. Flick and his staff believe that arriving with a solid physical foundation will help players adapt quickly to the rhythm and intensity required at first-team level. For many of the club’s youngsters, this “mini pre-season” could prove just as important as the official one.

Report – Bundesliga Striker Backed to Join Milan This Summer
Report – Bundesliga Striker Backed to Join Milan This SummerIt’s a near-certainty that Milan will sign a new striker this summer after Santiago Gimenez failed to meet expectations at San Siro. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Serhou Guirassy has emerged as bookmakers’ favorite to join the Rossoneri. With the arrival of Ruben Amorim, Milan are expected to undergo a significant tactical and personnel overhaul, especially after missing out on Champions League qualification last season. Led by Massimiliano Allegri, the San Siro giants scored just 53 goals in Serie A, finishing fifth in the table, a point adrift of Como.In addition, they were the lowest-scoring team among the top six, prompting the club to scour the market for attacking reinforcements. Meanwhile, several forwards could leave after the World Cup. Gimenez is not the only name on the chopping block. There’s also a veil of uncertainty surrounding the futures of Rafael Leao, Christian Pulisic, and Christopher Nkunku. In the meantime, several elite strikers, including Robert Lewandowski, have been linked with a move to Milan. However, the outgoing Barcelona veteran is reportedly on the verge of joining Major League Soccer franchise Chicago Fire. Therefore, Milan must expand their search. Our take on Milan & GuirassyGuirassy has been on Milan’s shortlist for years. Indeed, they were keen on the Guinean striker before he moved from Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund in 2024. Fast forward two years, and the 30-year-old could finally complete his transfer to Serie A.The bookies view Guirassy as a perfect fit for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup, even though he had a disappointing season by his standards. Indeed, he netted 17 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last term.Meanwhile, Dortmund will reportedly listen to offers for their star center-forward, whose contract at Signal Iduna Park expires in 2028. Milan would reportedly have to shell out around €40 million to secure his signature.

First Real Madrid casualty of 2026 World Cup as Arda Guler falls with Türkiye
First Real Madrid casualty of 2026 World Cup as Arda Guler falls with TürkiyeReal Madrid have many players at the 2026 World Cup, but only a week into the tournament, one of them is already heading home.Arda Guler would’ve had high hopes to go far in the tournament, with many spectators considering Türkiye to be one of the dark horses. However, last week’s defeat to Australia had them on the back foot to qualify from Group D, and it meant that they had to avoid a second loss in a row against Paraguay in order to remain in with a chance of reaching the Round of 32.However, it was not to be for Guler and Türkiye, as they were defeated 1-0 by the South American side. Matias Galarza’s strike after 64 seconds was the difference, despite the fact that Paraguay played the entire second half after Miguel Almiron was shown a straight red card in stoppage time at the end of the first period.Despite having 32 shots and 50 touches in Paraguay’s penalty area, Türkiye were unable to get the goal they need. It means they will head home after facing the United States next week, as they cannot overtake Australia or Paraguay due to FIFA changing the tiebreaker from goal difference to head-to-head record.Guler could still have a busy summer in store(Photo by Richard Pelham/Getty Images)Guler will undoubtedly be very disappointed to have fallen short, as he would have had aspirations to take Türkiye far in the World Cup. It means he will take him away from football after the USA match before likely returning to Real Madrid for the start of pre-season next month. However, there is no guarantee that Guler remains a Real Madrid player come the end of the summer. The recent arrival of Bernardo Silva means his place in the starting line-up is under threat, which has prompted Chelsea to consider a move for him.

Official: Mitchell Weiser signs contract extension at Werder BremenAs Werder Bremen officially announced this morning, Mitchell Weiser has extended his contract, which was due to expire this month. As is customary, Bremen did not disclose the specific duration of the contract, but it is understood to be a one-year deal.“We are delighted to continue our journey with Mitchell,” explained the club's Head of Professional Football, Peter Niemeyer.“We remain absolutely convinced of his quality and are optimistic that Mitch will help us with his creativity in the new season after his knee injury.”Negotiations between the parties had dragged on for several months after club insisted on a heavily performance-based contract.Due to a cruciate ligament injury, the once ever-present player didn't play a single minute for Werder in the 2025-26 season. However, the sides moved closer to an agreement in recent weeks, with the wing-back still highly valued at Bremen.

Countdown to Kickoff: Jalen Moreno-Cropper is Saints Player of Day 85
There are 85 days remaining until the New Orleans Saints take the field for their 2026 regular season opener. New Orleans will face the Detroit Lions on the road to kick off their year on Sunday, Sept. 13. A recent new addition to the team, wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper, currently wears No. 85 as the Saints sit about six weeks away from training camp.Jalen Moreno-Cropper was just signed by New Orleans earlier this week after a tryout. As our Saints Player of the Day, let's have a look at his background and career to date.Name (age): Jalen Moreno-Cropper (25)Hometown: Sanger, Calif.Position: Wide receiverHeight, weight: 6-feet, 172 poundsCollege: Fresno State BulldogsRelative Athletic Score: 6.23Drafted: Undrafted in 2023 (Dallas Cowboys)NFL experience: 1 year2026 salary cap hit: TBDA four-star recruit out of Sanger High School and Buchanan High School in California, Moreno-Cropper would choose the Fresno State Bulldogs to play collegiately. Playing with future Saints draft choice Jake Haener at quarterback, Moreno-Cropper led the Bulldogs in catches and receiving yardage in three of his four seasons. He earned 2nd Team All-MWC honors in 2021 after 83 receptions for 899 yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2022, Moreno-Cropper received first team All-MWC recognition with 1,086 yards and 5 scores on a conference-best 85 catches.Despite the production, Moreno-Cropper was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Instead, he'd sign an undrafted deal with the Dallas Cowboys. From there, he'd spend most of the next three years on the Dallas practice squad. Moreno-Cropper saw one game of regular season action in both 2024 and 2025, but did not record a catch or target. At the conclusion of last season, Moreno-Cropper signed with the Houston Gamblers of the United Football League. He played in five games for the Gamblers, recording 291 receiving yards on 22 catches and another 213 as a kick returner. Moreno-Cropper's highlight was a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. With Houston, Moreno-Cropper played with quarterback Hunter Dekkers, another recently signed addition by the Saints after spending 2025 on the team's practice squad.Moreno-Cropper will have some fierce competition just to make the New Orleans roster at a loaded wide receiver spot. However, his explosiveness as a kick returner could also have him as a dark horse roster candidate. There, he'll compete with rookie sixth round choice Barion Brown and free-agent pickup Ty Chandler during training camp and preseason. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Countdown to Kickoff: Jalen Moreno-Cropper is Saints Player of Day 85

Can Colts' Daniel Jones recreate last season's success? ESPN analyst weighs in
Before a season-ending Achilles injury, was Daniel Jones' performance last season for the Indianapolis Colts a blip on the radar or a sign of what's to come?Through 10 games, the Colts held an 8-2 record, with Jones and the offense off to a red-hot start. The Colts offense was one of the highest-scoring offenses in football during that stretch, with Jones ranked among the best in numerous key passing categories. So can that success be replicated? ESPN's Ben Solak does think so, calling Jones' performance a "super blip."Solak's evaluation is due to how Jones performed under pressure for much of the season."Statistical performance under pressure is notoriously volatile, and through seven weeks, Jones led the league in EPA per dropback when pressured," Solak wrote. "This was not really commensurate with his play over the previous six seasons with the Giants, when pressure tended to make him fold."And even before Jones' injury in Jacksonville, defenses were already beginning to find more success against him and the Colts' offense. With Jones missing the final several games of the season, we never found out if Jones and Shane Steichen would have been able to counter what defenses were doing."As the clock struck midnight and the carriage became a pumpkin, Jones' pressure-to-sack ratio shot back up," wrote Solak. "In the middle of the season, Jones began taking bad sacks against the Titans (33.3%), Steelers (27.8%) and Falcons (43.8%)."All that said, while Solak doesn't expect Jones to return to his peak 2025 form, that doesn't mean he and the Colts can't be productive. "Jones was never coached well in New York, and his immediate comfort in Steichen's offense is notable," Solak wrote. "He'll never again achieve those 2025 highs, but could he give the Colts what the Buccaneers have gotten from Baker Mayfield? I believe so."The Colts re-signed Jones to a two-year, $88 million deal this offseason, operating under the belief that the success he and the Colts had through 10 games last season can be recreated and sustained. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Analyst on why Colts Daniel Jones won't recreate success from 2025 season

Crysencio Summerville: Man United target set for summer exit
Crysencio Summerville: Man United target set for summer exitManchester United are hoping to sign both Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United.West Ham’s relegation to the Championship has led to suggestions of a mass exodus in east London, as the Hammers may be forced to raise funds through major sales to avoid breaching financial rules. Furthermore, their best players are unlikely to look forward to playing in England’s second tier, especially amid interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Manchester United admire Crysencio SummervilleManchester United have been chasing Mateus Fernandes for some time now and were expected to make a move for him, irrespective of West Ham’s fate in the Premier League. However, following West Ham’s drop, Crysencio Summerville has also emerged as a serious target for the Red Devils, who are keen to add a versatile attacker to their ranks. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United made an enquiry for the electric winger after he “scored high in data analysis”.The 5ft 9in winger, who can hug the touchline or drift into the centre comfortably, possesses explosive pace and exceptional dribbling ability. Described as “incredible” by teammate Jean-Clair Todibo, the Dutchman does not shy away from his defensive responsibilities either.Crysencio Summerville set to leave West HamAs is the case with Fernandes, West Ham have slapped a high price-tag on Summerville. The Championship outfit are demanding around £50m for the versatile winger. However, his exit appears to be more certain than that of the Portuguese midfielder, despite a long-term contract in London.According to Fabrizio Romano, Summerville is “set to leave” West Ham with “several clubs calling.”The Italian journalist claims United are “informed on price and added his name on shortlist”. There are other Premier League clubs in the race for Summerville’s signature as well. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain’s interest depends on the futures of Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande. On his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that United “keep asking” West Ham about Summerville, suggesting the Mancunians are pushing to sign the Netherlands international.Featured image Julian Finney via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Jun. 20—AIKEN — On June 19, local kids and their families were able to witness the United States Men's National Soccer Team defeat Australia 2-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage match during a watch party on the University of South Carolina Aiken's campus. The U16/U17 Boys and Girls Aiken Futbol Club (AFC) teams were hosting the event, which brought in lifelong soccer fans and several dipping their toes into the sport."The World Cup is an opportunity every four years to bring nations together. It unites people from different backgrounds, it brings different cultures and experiences together through one united language, the language of soccer," said Terrence Charles, head coach for the U16/U17 Boys AFC team."Outside of being a soccer player, I think it's important to be able to cheer on your country, to have something to root for, especially in something this big. And it's exciting that it's here in the United States," added Kinsie Mitchell, head coach for the girls U17 AFC team and assistant women's soccer coach for USCA.Two young fans spoke during the game's halftime about what got them interested in soccer and what it was like for them to watch the U.S. compete.Henry Kramer, 9, said he started watching soccer when he was 4 years old because of his dad, Branden Kramer."It's fun when they score a goal. Lions' Mike Kafka could be mirroring Dan Campbell's coaching path
As Detroit wrapped up its minicamp, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said new pass game coordinator Mike Kafka has fit right in."First of all, he’s been a great addition for us," Campbell said of Kafka.Campbell noted that he and Kafka's paths could be starting to mirror one another. In 2015, Campbell went 5-7 as Miami Dolphins interim head coach. Following the 2015 season, Campbell interviewed for the Dolphins' full-time head coaching job, but Miami hired Adam Gase instead.Kafka spent the past four seasons as the New York Giants' offensive coordinator. The 38-year-old also served as the Giants' interim head coach last season after Brian Daboll was fired. The Giants lost their first five games with Kafka as its interim head coach, but four of those losses came by one score, including a 34-27 overtime loss at Detroit. Kafka's creativity was on display in that Week 12 contest from Ford Field as he and the Giants burnt Detroit on a pair of trick plays.Kafka finished his interim stint with a 2-5 mark as the Giants rolled the Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys in the season's final two weeks. When the season ended, Kafka interviewed for the Giants' full-time head coaching vacancy, but he was passed up for John Harbaugh."I know what that is when you go from where he’s been. You were the interim head coach and then you’re kind of sliding back to a role with a new team. You’ve got to humble yourself again a little bit, and that’s a good thing. Like for me, it was easy, because I came right back under Sean Payton who I have a tremendous amount of respect for and knew that he could fill in those things for me that I needed help with," Campbell said.Kafka interviewed with the Lions for its offensive coordinator opening, but Campbell opted for former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. The Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers both interviewed Kafka for their OC openings, too. But, when the Eagles hired Sean Mannion and the Bucs hired Zac Robinson, that meant the Lions had another opportunity to add Kafka to its staff."He's been unbelievable. Man, he’s a thinker, he listens. He’s going to do exactly what Drew wants done, what I want done. He’s good with the players. And then a lot of it he’s just finding his way, too. You’re kind of the new guy, so you’re trying to get a feel of the other coaches around you, which is growing and developing. He fits right in. And then with the players, too. With Goff," Campbell said.Alongside pass game specialist David Shaw, Kafka will play a critical role in the Lions' advanced scouting for upcoming opponents."He and David Shaw are both in a lot of advanced scouting. Division opponents, what’s coming next down the road in two, three weeks. And then give us your ideas. It’s not so much, okay, this is what we’re good at, but how do we dress this up? How do we maximize the things we do well and it gives us some leverage or it gives us a matchup we want."That’s what a lot of that is, because the coordinator doesn’t have all the time in the world to do that, so he needs those ideas and then he can pull from them. He’ll have his own thoughts. It’s critical, man. I do think he’s creative. I think David Shaw’s creative, too. That’s where those two guys really help out, but he’s been a really good addition to this point," Campbell said.Kafka hopes this opportunity with the Lions can help chart a similar trajectory for his career like Campbell's stint with the Saints alongside Payton did for Campbell's."If you aspire to be a coordinator, aspire to be a head coach, you aspire to continue to move up and help support your family and do things that you love," Kafka said. "I have all those things. But right now, my focus is on my role with the Lions."And Kafka is fired up to work with Lions quarterback Jared Goff."Being in the room with Jared, he's phenomenal," Kafka said. "He's one of those guys who I had a ton of respect for from the outside. You look at him, this guy is like a sniper. He's into it, he's got great command in the huddle, at the line of scrimmage. He's so accurate. I didn't really realize how accurate he was until being out here and seeing the anticipation, the velocity, the timing, the ball placement, all those things that go into the pass game. Watching him operate has been really impressive."Kafka played quarterback at Northwestern under current Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Kafka was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Eagles and spent six NFL seasons with seven teams before jumping into coaching. For more Lions coverage, follow us on X, @TheLionsWire, and give our Facebook page a like. Fighting persists in Lebanon despite a ceasefire as the US-Iran deal is under threat
Smoke rises to the sky following an Israeli military strike in southern Lebanon as seen from northern Israel, Friday, June 19, 2026. (AP Photo/Leo Correa)2026-06-20T09:15:09Z TYRE, Lebanon (AP) — Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon on Saturday killed at least seven people, including two children, hours after reports emerged of a ceasefire agreement. The persistent fighting threatened an interim agreement between the United States and Iran to end the war in the Middle East. Lebanon’s National News Agency said the strikes hit the southern town of Nabatiyeh and nearby villages. At least seven people remained trapped under the rubble, it said. Mediators were scrambling to halt the fighting between Israel and the militant Lebanese Hezbollah group, after a heavy exchange on Friday killed at least 47 people in Lebanon and four Israeli soldiers. An Israeli military official said Hezbollah had fired more than 50 projectiles at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon overnight, prompting the military to start targeting the militant group there. The official spoke anonymously in line with regulations. On Friday, Israeli ambassador to Washington, Yechiel Leiter, said on X that Israel “remains firmly committed to an immediate ceasefire” if Hezbollah honors the agreement and ceases hostilities. In public statements, Hezbollah has said it will abide by a ceasefire if Israel does, but has not said a ceasefire was actually in place.A Hezbollah official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to comment publicly, said Friday after reports of a ceasefire deal emerged that efforts were underway by Qatar, the U.S. and Iran to broker an Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire but stopped short of confirming a deal had been reached. Read More A conflict that could sink the US-Iran dealHezbollah and Israel went to war just days after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran on Feb. 28, with Hezbollah firing rockets and drones at civilian communities in northern Israel and Israel seizing large swaths of southern Lebanon. The interim U.S.-Iran agreement signed this week has already reopened the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had closed as the war unfolded — cutting off the global economy from significant supplies of oil and natural gas. The deal also envisages the relaunch of talks on Iran’s nuclear program, a core issue in the war. Neither Israel nor Hezbollah are signatories to the deal, which calls for a halt to military operations in Lebanon and for the country’s sovereignty to be respected. With the fighting continuing, the accord is under threat and U.S.-Iran talks in Switzerland, planned to start Friday, have been delayed, with no new date announced.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to keep Israeli forces in southern Lebanon until any threat to Israel is eliminated. Hezbollah has refused to halt its attacks unless Israel commits to withdrawing from Lebanon, which Iran says is also a condition of the deal. The fighting in the south, near the Israel-Lebanon borderPlumes of smoke rose into the sky over southern Lebanon Saturday and Israeli jets flew low over the coastal city of Tyre.A strike on the village of Barish killed four members of a family, parents and two children. In Arab Salim village, a body was pulled from a destroyed house, and in the villages of Doueir and Kfar Rumman, drone strikes killed a person on a motorcycle and a Lebanese soldier.Netanyahu’s office did not immediately comment on the ceasefire efforts. On Friday, Netanyahu posted on X that, on his orders, the Israeli army had “struck powerfully” 150 Hezbollah targets, killing dozens of militants.Military spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said the Israeli forces were operating in a “forward defense zone” and would continue doing so. Iranian and US officials cancel travel to SwitzerlandIranian officials did not travel as planned to Switzerland, insisting that the fighting in Lebanon must stop before the talks can take place. U.S. Vice President JD Vance also postponed his trip.On Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told the semi-official ISNA news agency that Pakistan’s interior minister will arrive in Iran as part of continued negotiation efforts. Baghaei had said earlier that consultations through mediators were ongoing regarding the next phase of negotiations to draft a final U.S.-Iran agreement.Because the initial deal was signed digitally earlier this week, the talks in Switzerland were not urgent, and plans were underway to hold a meeting in the coming days, he said. Much still needs to be resolvedThe talks in Switzerland were expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear program. Tehran maintains it’s for peaceful purposes only, though it has a large stockpile of uranium enriched to higher levels that are a step short of weapons’ grade. That uranium could be used to build multiple atomic bombs, should Tehran choose to do so, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog. Those talks are expected to be difficult. The 2015 nuclear deal, which U.S. President Donald Trump scrapped during his first term, took more than 18 months to negotiate. The interim deal gives negotiators 60 days to come up with a nuclear agreement, but that can be extended. It outlines lucrative incentives if Iran does reach a new agreement, including the eventual lifting of all international sanctions and a $300 billion fund for postwar reconstruction. Iran has already won some concessions. Following the signing of the interim deal, the U.S. lifted its blockade of Iran’s ports and is allowing it to sell its oil freely. The deal also calls for Iran’s assets to be unfrozen — though it’s not clear how quickly. ___Mroue reported from Beirut. Here's who will present Panthers great Luke Kuechly into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Tom Kuechly brought Luke Kuechly into this world—and now, he'll bring him into football immortality. As announced by the Carolina Panthers on Friday, Luke will be presented into the Pro Football Hall of Fame by his father, Tom. Kuechly is set to be enshrined on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.A must-see moment pic.twitter.com/mXjKZFAPL4— Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) June 19, 2026Kuechly was named one of five inductees for 2026 back in February. And fittingly enough, Tom also played a part in initially delivering that info to his son—setting up Luke's house for the surprise announcement."So I pull up to the house, and there's a ton of lights on," Kuechly said, via Darin Gantt of Panthers.com. "And there are a couple of lights on that traditionally aren't on, cause my dad is a big 'If the light doesn't need to be on, it doesn't need to be on' guy. So I was like, I don't know, maybe he hit a button and turned the light on."So I walked into the house. And I turned the light off in the hallway, which is traditionally not on. And I'm like, 'Hey dad', and don't get a response. I was like, well, that's weird. And the TV's not on, so I'm like, what's up?"Well, he eventually got a response—from fellow franchise legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Julius Peppers, who broke the news to Kuechly. Peppers was joined by Tom, Luke's mother, Eileen, and Luke's brothers, John and Henry. All eight of Kuechly's pro campaigns were spent in Carolina. And despite an abbreviated career due to multiple concussions, he was as decorated as they come—capturing the 2012 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, the 2013 AP Defensive Player of the Year honors, five first-team All-Pro nods, two second-team All-Pro nods and seven Pro Bowl selections.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Pro Football Hall of Fame: Luke Kuechly's presenter announced

2027 5-star LB explains why he committed to Texas A&M over Notre Dame
Texas A&M is closer and closer to securing the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class after landing five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson on Thursday afternoon, as third-year coach Mike Elko continues to prove that he is one of the top recruiters in the country, and after seeing a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, he is also proving to be an elite developer. Henderson is one of the top overall athletes in the class, possessing elite instincts, and his speed and agility make him a third-down pass-rush option with immense potential as an outside linebacker, given his advanced coverage skill set. Becoming the sixth five-star commit in the Aggies' 2027 class, Henderson stated to Rivals insider Chad Simmons exactly why he chose Texas A&M over Notre Dame, focused on the "comfort level" he has developed with the A&M coaching staff, and College Station as a whole.“I just feel like my heart was at Texas A&M. I can see myself there tomorrow or next month and not have a problem. It is about that comfort level."First-year linebackers coach Travis Williams' first commit is a five-star prospect, which is quite the achievement, and further proves that he was the right hire after serving as Arkansas's defensive coordinator from 2023 to 2025. Yes, Henderson's relationship with Mike Elko is stronger than oak, but developing a strong connection with his future position coach is even more vital to his development and NFL future. “I trust Coach T-Will to make me the best player I can be,” Henderson stated. “Coach Elko is a defensive-minded head coach who believes in me and knows how to use my versatility. The relationships with the people at A&M are real.”Going back to the early parts of Henderson's recruitment, Florida made the early push, while Notre Dame, which received a prediction to land the blue-chip defender, made things highly interesting down the stretch, but focused on what Mike Elko is building, a "dynasty," as Henderson puts it, his heart was always with A&M, which was finally sealed with a loud, and proud commitment. “Coach Elko is definitely building a dynasty. I think Coach Elko wants what’s best for every player individually, and this recruiting class is only going to get crazier.”Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. Jaguars in middle of pack in USA TODAY NFL power rankings
The Jacksonville Jaguars are eager to prove the 2025 season was not a fluke. Not many thought the Jaguars would make the playoffs last season, let alone run away with the AFC North Division title and host a playoff game. But after a 13-4 season, their first under head coach Liam Coen, the Jaguars now get a chance to show they are still one of the powers in the AFC.They may have a good chance at it, too. Trevor Lawrence wasn't healthy entering last season, but he was this time around. And many of his premium passing weapons are back after a high-powered 2025. And one of those weapons, Travis Hunter, is back after an injury-shortened rookie campaign in which he showed glimpses of promise. But we're 2.5 months away from meaningful football. Until then, we get to evaluate just how good the Jaguars are compared to the rest of the league. USA TODAY NFL power rankings: OffseasonThe Jaguars landed at No. 17 in USA TODAY’s latest offseason NFL power rankings. This places them in the middle tier of the NFL ranks before they report to training camp at the end of July. Jacksonville's success in 2026 will largely depend on the continued development of quarterback Trevor Lawrence and if the organization's recent roster-building efforts can translate into more consistent results on the field.Jaguars free agent movesThe Jaguars only have one new free agency signing; however, Jacksonville has chosen to re-sign many players during the 2026 offseasonNewbie: Chris Rodriguez Jr., RBJacksonville's outside addition was former Washington Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. With 500 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2025, Rodriguez gives the Jaguars additional depth and competition in the backfield.Reputable Resigns: Dennis Gardeck and Quintin MorrisDennis Gardeck, LB/EDGE: The Jaguars retained veteran defender Dennis Gardeck after he provided depth and experience to the front seven. His versatility remains valuable as their defense hopes to build on recent progress.Quintin Morris, TE: Jacksonville also brought back tight end Quintin Morris, who appeared in 14 games and made five starts in 2025. After starting on special teams, Morris' adaptability and flexibility allowed for him to be a top candidate to contribute to offense.Jaguars 2026 NFL Draft ClassWithout a first-round pick because of the trade that landed Travis Hunter in 2025, Jacksonville's draft began in Round 2. The Jaguars ultimately selected 10 players.Nate Boerkircher, TE, Texas A&M (Round 2, No. 56)Boerkircher became Jacksonville's first selection of the draft. The 6-foot-5 tight end is viewed as a strong blocker who could help expand the offense along with becoming a receiving threat.Albert Regis, DT, Texas A&M (Round 3, No. 81)Regis addresses the interior defensive line after recording 49 tackles and two sacks during his final collegiate season. He has the potential to be a great contributor in the defensive tackle rotation.Emmanuel Pregnon, G, Oregon (Round 3, No. 88)Pregnon may have the best chance among Jacksonville's rookies to compete for early playing time. Worried, Germany? A written-off World Cup star is on fire
Worried, Germany? A written-off World Cup star is on fireAfter the emphatic 7-1 win over Curaçao, Germany’s national team face a far tougher test in their second group match. In Côte d’Ivoire, the DFB team will meet a strong opponent that even beat France in a friendly shortly before the World Cup began and has several players capable of causing Germany serious problems. Hardly anyone, in particular, would have expected one of them to be in the mix.Côte d’Ivoire opened with a deserved 1-0 win over Ecuador. Drawing major attention was their Bundesliga wing duo of Yan Diomande and Bazoumana Touré. After outstanding seasons, the two speedsters are now valued at 40 and 90 million euros respectively. But the Ivorians are about far more than just their two well-known wide players. Lurking in the shadow of Diomande and Touré is another star who, after difficult years, has impressively rediscovered his old strength — and one most fans will probably recognize as well.Back to his best in the Yellow SubmarineBecause just a few years ago, Nicolas Pépé was one of the hottest properties on the international transfer market. The now 31-year-old made his breakthrough in France’s Ligue 1, where he produced an outstanding 22 goals and 12 assists in the 2018/19 season.Arsenal took notice of that rapid rise and signed the attacking star soon after for a hefty 80 million euros (source: transfermarkt.de). At the time, he was the most expensive African footballer of all time. But Pépé was never able to justify that enormous fee in north London. After recording 11 goal contributions in each of his first two seasons, a true horror year followed, with just one league goal. But why was the former wonderkid never able to find his footing at the Gunners? Just a few weeks ago, Pépé spoke to 'Flashscore' about his time at Arsenal. Much of it centered on his relationship with Mikel Arteta. "He is a coach who demands certain things. Sometimes it was a bit difficult for me, because the communication between us didn’t always work very well," Pépé said. However, he by no means placed the blame solely on Arteta: "That is exactly what I regret most: that I didn’t communicate enough with him.”📸 CHARLY TRIBALLEAU - AFP or licensorsTo give his stalling career fresh momentum, the pacey dribbler returned to familiar surroundings in 2022. But he flopped again at Ligue 1 club OGC Nice and only a few months later joined Trabzonspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on a free transfer. Normally, that is the kind of place where careers begin to wind down. Yet even there, things never really clicked. But instead of taking yet another step downward, he moved on to Spain on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.There it became clear: Villarreal were exactly what Pépé had been searching for all those years without finding it. After a solid first season, he truly flourished in the campaign just gone: with eight goals and ten assists, he fired the Yellow Submarine to an impressive third-place finish and into the Champions League. So, just in time for the World Cup, Pépé is in outstanding form. Together with the young breakout stars Diomande and Touré, the reborn forward forms a devastating attack that leaves even Man United star Amad Diallo with only a substitute role. As a classic number nine, Côte d’Ivoire can also rely on Elye Wahi and Inter gem Ange-Yoan Bonny.Diomande had to fight tooIt is a team that knows how to deal with setbacks. A few days ago, breakout star Diomande also revealed in 'The Players’ Tribune' that his career was by no means a straightforward rise. Bournemouth had rejected him. And so had "Chelsea, Rangers, Olympiacos, Crystal Palace." Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise had even come up to him and said: “Yo kid, you’re really good.” Still, nobody signed him."Not even the MLS B-teams wanted me. I don’t even know why. They never gave me a reason. The adults handled everything. They offered me all over Europe, but everyone said no," said Diomande. He said he had to travel back to Africa and was bitterly disappointed. When Leganés, his team before moving to Leipzig, wanted to sign him weeks later, he cried with joy.A goal against Germany as the highlight of his career?Côte d’Ivoire’s sporting quality is impossible to miss. Every single one of the Ivorian attackers has serious pace and therefore poses a potential threat to the German defense. Because if the DFB team has one major weakness, it is clearly their vulnerability on the counter and after losing the ball themselves.Côte d’Ivoire are aware of that too. It can be assumed the Africans will be waiting for exactly those lapses before bursting into the open spaces at top speed. Striker Pépé in particular should therefore get plenty of opportunities to make his mark and continue his comeback story. Perhaps he will even crown his footballing renaissance with a goal against the four-time world champions. It would fit the trajectory of his past year. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. You can read the original version in 🇩🇪 here.

‘Weaker teams would have crumbled’ – Scotland boss Clarke on narrow defeat to Morocco
‘Weaker teams would have crumbled’ – Scotland boss Clarke on narrow defeat to MoroccoSteve Clarke praised the fight shown by his Scotland players despite losing 1-0 to Morocco in their second game of the World Cup.Ismael Saibari scored just two minutes into the game to give Morocco a 1-0 win.It leaves Scotland on three points in the group after their opening game win over Haiti, meaning they could need a point against Brazil in their final group game to progress to the knockout stages.Despite the loss, Clarke says there are positives to take.“I think we picked ourselves up first half, to be fair,” the Scotland boss said. “It took us ten minutes to get into the game because obviously when you have a setback like that it’s really difficult to respond.“Weaker teams would have crumbled, I think, against that quality of opposition, but we dug in, got ourselves back in the game, started moving the ball around a bit better and I thought after the hydration break, we were good, we had good momentum going in at half-time and we carried that into the second half. “Proud of the players but obviously we’re all devastated and disappointed that we didn’t get the result we wanted so that we can carry on in this tournament as long as we can.”Scotland were denied penalties for challenges on John McGinn and Scott McTominay in the second half, while Clarke felt that Morocco defender Issa Diop could also have been shown a red card.“Everyone in the flash area, where I did interviews, were talking about the Scott McTominay one but that’s the only one I didn’t watch back, because I didn’t have much time, I have to come out and speak to you,” Clarke said.“I thought the John McGinn one was a 50/50. Some will give it, and I think if the referee gives it, he doesn’t overturn it.“I was a little bit 50/50 on the Che Adams last man incident too. He had a chance to go through one on one with the goalkeeper and gets brought down.“Again, the referee chooses yellow and VAR backs the referee. But listen, there is nothing we can do about it.”

'Should ask for release': Former Indian cricketer urges KL Rahul to enter IPL auction as Rishabh Pant set for DC return
Rishabh Pant is set to rejoin his former IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, where he began his career. After spending two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants, a stint that did not quite work out for him, Pant now appears ready for a homecoming. Amid the developments, former India cricketer Dodda Ganesh has urged KL Rahul to leave Delhi Capitals if the move goes through.A blockbuster trade is on the cards, with Pant set to join Delhi Capitals while Kuldeep Yadav moves to Lucknow Super Giants. As TOI reported on Friday that the deal is almost finalized, with the official paperwork currently with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).KL Rahul was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 14 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction and has performed exceptionally well during his two seasons with the franchise. In his debut season for DC, Rahul finished as the team's leading run-scorer, amassing 539 runs in 13 innings at an average of 53.90 and a strike rate of 149.72.Retained for Rs 14 crore ahead of IPL 2026, Rahul completely transformed his T20 approach and played with immense attacking intent. Across 14 matches, he scored 593 runs at an average of 45.62 and a blistering strike rate of 174.41.Despite Rahul's success, Ganesh believes the wicketkeeper-batter should consider entering the auction if Pant returns to Delhi."KL Rahul should ask for release and go to the auction if Pant comes back," Ganesh wrote on X .— doddaganesha (@doddaganesha) KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant endured contrasting IPL 2026 campaigns. While Rahul led Delhi Capitals' batting charts as their highest run-scorer, Pant struggled for a second consecutive season with Lucknow Super Giants.Pant, who joined LSG for Rs 27 crore, managed just 312 runs during the IPL 2026 season. Under his captaincy, the franchise finished at the bottom of the points table, following which Pant stepped down as captain. Before joining LSG, Pant spent nine seasons with Delhi Capitals, playing 111 matches between 2016 and 2024. He also captained the franchise in 43 matches across three seasons before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. On the other hand, Rahul enjoyed another prolific season, scoring 593 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 174.41. His highest score was an unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. 131873322

Jaguars roster breakdown: Who's a lock, on the bubble at defensive tackle
With minicamp behind us, let's break down the Jacksonville Jaguars' roster through a different lens.In this series, we will be going position-by-position and placing each player into various categories, determining whether they are a lock to make the team or find themselves on the bubble. What this exercise can do is help bring into focus how many roster spots are actually available this summer, along with highlighting who may be on the outside and looking in.Up next are the defensive tackles.Roster locks (4): Arik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Ruke Orhorhoro, Albert RegisThere has been a lot of conjecture around Armstead's future with the team, but the Jaguars don't have the depth to move on from him. It's also important to note that before a late-season hand injury, Armstead was producing at a fairly high level.Hamilton provides a run-stuffing presence inside, while Orhorhoro can hopefully give the Jaguars added pass rush juice. Regis was one of the Jaguars' third-round picks this past April. On the bubble (5): Matt Dickerson, TJ Bollers, Quinton Bohanna, Jalen Hunt, Keivie RoseAt a minimum, there is likely one more roster spot at this position up for grabs. Dickerson will be the favorite when it comes to earning that role. As last season progressed, he carved out more playing time for himself. That said, he's not a lock either. If a younger player like Bollers, Hunter or Rose can showcase their upside, that could earn them a spot on the 53-man roster. It's also not out of the realm of possibility that the Jaguars keep six defensive tackles, but that's not a given either. Two players will have to emerge and make it impossible for GM James Gladstone to release them. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars 53-man roster: Locks and bubble players at defensive tackle

Douglass taps ex-Auburn assistant Rodney Hill as boys basketball coach
Douglass announced the hiring of Rodney Hill as its boys basketball coach on Friday. Hill, who arrives following one year as an assistant on the Auburn women’s staff, will fill in for the Trojans after Steven Alexander recently stepped down. "I'm so excited to step into this new role at Douglass," Hill said in a release. "This program is arguably the best in the entire state over the last 15 years, so I can't wait to continue sustaining the success of the Trojans at the highest stage. I'm excited to get to work with these hard-working student-athletes!"Prior to his stint at Auburn, Hill was an assistant on the Texas A&M women’s staff from 2023-25 and had several stops before that at the high school, college and even professional level as he spent the summer of 2016 as the assistant director of operations for the Dallas Wings. More: Former OU women's basketball guard Ana Llanusa named Norman head coachDouglass made it to the Class 4A state finals this past season and lost to Cascia Hall 87-58. Alexander led the Trojans for five seasons and had a 108-28 record while winning championships in 2023 and 2024. Alexander became the Langston men’s director of player development during his tenure as Douglass’ coach. He will keep that role at Langston and was also recently named the school’s head women’s assistant.“Douglass has a strong foundation and a community that deeply cares about its students,” said Shane Sanders, the executive director of athletics for Oklahoma City Public Schools. “We’re not starting over — we’re building on the great work that’s already been done and taking it to the next level. Coach Hill is the type of leader, mentor and relationship-builder that every school deserves, and I believe his impact will be felt quickly throughout the program and community.” Nick Sardis covers high school sports for The Oklahoman. Bucky McMillan recaps exciting first season leading Texas A&M
Texas A&M's basketball program is in a good place under coach Bucky McMillan, who is entering his second season at the helm after leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament during his inaugural campaign, which, by all accounts, is an extremely impressive feat. However, after building his first roster entirely from the transfer portal, losing star forward Rashaun Agee quickly became the central focus. Thanks to his veteran staff and financial backing, Bucky McMillan's recruiting efforts in the transfer portal, just weeks after the Aggies fell to Houston in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, paid off, landing the top-ranked shooting guard, former Kansas State star PJ Haggerty, who averaged nearly 24 points per game last season, combined with five other key depth/starting additions to pair with returning forwards Jamie Vinson and Zach Clemence. Reflecting on his first year in College Station, McMilan should be proud of the progress he and his staff made with a roster that was predicted to finish 13th in the SEC, and miss the NCAA Tournament, only to finish within 11 conference wins, tied for 4th in the standings. Speaking with The Next Round show on Friday, providing an in-depth look into the ups and downs of his first season in the biggest job of his coaching career.“Last year we were hired so late that you’re just piecing things together. I really believe that when I’m done coaching and I look back on that group, I’ll be as proud of that group as any group I’ve ever coached based on the circumstances. They were great."From losing star transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako for the season, and having to rely on Rashaun Agee, Rylan Griffen, and several other transfer additions to fill the void, and get through the year on a high note, likely won't happen again during McMillan's tenure with the Aggies, but it will be remembered as one of the more exciting seasons in program history. "You want to have a brand of basketball that whether you love basketball or you don’t know anything about basketball, people all love going to the games and keeping up with the Aggies. That’s what we built this first year."While former head coach Buzz Williams attempted to make Aggie basketball a more enjoyable watch, Bucky McMillan's fast-paced, up-tempo style and press defense made nearly every matchup last season must-see television, and after building a 2026-2027 roster with several NBA-level prospects, the fun has just begun. Fernando Alonso Eyes Dakar Win and Le Mans With Max Verstappen After F1 Retirement
At 44, with his Aston Martin contract expiring at the end of 2026 and no extension yet on the table, Fernando Alonso is spending less time worrying about what comes next than most people would expect.Speaking in Barcelona on the weekend of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, Alonso confirmed no concrete contract talks have taken place for 2027, but remains remarkably unbothered by the prospect of his F1 chapter closing. When the door does shut, he already knows which ones he wants to open.“I will continue racing, if it’s not F1 I will do Dakar [Rally]. I said many times it’s a challenge that I want to take, winning endurance racing, F1 and rally.“I want to win the Dakar, it would have no precedents.”Alonso competed in the Dakar Rally in 2020 during his F1 sabbatical, describing it beforehand as “undoubtedly” the biggest challenge of his sporting career.A major crash in stage 10 cost him hours, and he eventually crossed the finish line in 13th with Toyota. The unfinished business there is obvious.Le Mans Is Still Very Much on the Table – Especially With Max VerstappenThere’s also a potential return to Circuit de la Sarthe on the table.During his sabbatical from F1 between 2018 and 2021, he won the Le Mans 24 Hours twice and took the World Endurance Championship title with Toyota. That record makes him a two-time winner walking back into a race he’s already conquered – not an unusual position for him. “The 24h of Le Mans was a very beautiful experience that I might repeat one day. Especially if it’s with [Max] Verstappen.”The Dutchman has addressed his desire to race at Le Mans alongside Alonso more than once, and the feeling is mutual. He confirmed he had been speaking to Alonso about it, with the Spaniard saying “he would only want to do it with me again. That would be really cool.”Verstappen is contracted to Red Bull through the end of 2028, which makes a near-term pairing logistically unlikely. That said, Alonso has always been good at waiting. The one door he seems content to leave closed for now is Indianapolis. “I think Indy… no, or I don’t have it in my head right now.”During his previous sabbatical he made three entries at the Indianapolis 500 in pursuit of motorsport‘s triple crown – a feat only ever completed by Graham Hill. The triple crown remains unclaimed, but Alonso’s priorities have clearly changed since then. He’s also made clear he expects to stay connected to Aston Martin in some capacity even after stepping away from driving, whether in an ambassadorial or advisory role.So retirement from F1, if and when it comes, won’t mean disappearing from the paddock entirely.

Frank Lampard set to sign long-term deal with Coventry City
Frank Lampard set to sign long-term deal with Coventry CityFrank Lampard is set to sign a new long-term deal with Coventry City ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League, according to The Times. The former England international has transformed Coventry since taking charge in November 2024. Despite arriving midway through the campaign, Lampard guided the club to the Championship title with an impressive 95-point haul, ending a 25-year exile from the Premier League.Discussions over a new agreement are understood to be at an advanced stage, with both sides keen to continue the partnership that has delivered one of the club’s most memorable seasons in recent history.Lampard still has more than a year remaining on his current contract, but Coventry are eager to reward his success and provide stability as they prepare for the challenges of Premier League football. The 48-year-old is reportedly heavily involved in plans for the upcoming season, working closely with owner Doug King on recruitment and the club’s strategy. Coventry are expected to strengthen their squad significantly this summer as they look to establish themselves in the top flight rather than simply make up the numbers.Last season’s survivors are proof that promoted clubs can compete successfully and keep their head above water if they invest wisely.Sunderland defied expectations by qualifying for the Europa League in their first season back in the top flight, while Leeds United comfortably avoided relegation with a 14th-place finish.Coventry will hope to follow a similar path and build a squad capable of handling the step up in quality and intensity that comes with Premier League football.Lampard is already helping identify transfer targets, though not every move has gone to plan. The club recently saw a bid worth up to £20 million rejected for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who impressed during a loan spell last season and became one of Coventry’s standout performers.Lampard, who beat Mikel Arteta to the LMA manager of the year award, will kick off the Premier League campaign with a difficult trip to reigning champions Arsenal. The Sky Blues will then welcome Hull City for their first home Premier League game in a quarter of a century.

Cowboys Headlines: Prescott's playoff goals, Mafah's chance to shine
The Dallas Cowboys have put a lot of effort into rebuilding their defense to help return to the playoffs, but just making the playoffs isn't enough for quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott acknowledged improvements he's noticed going up against the defense, and after all the moves made, just making the playoffs is low on their list of goals in 2026. He's motivated by the energy he's seeing from his teammates on defense and defensive coordinator Christian Parker, which is why he believes making the playoffs is a minimum goal. He and the team have aspirations far greater than just making it to the dance.Another player with big aspirations in 2026 is running back Phil Mafah, who sat out the majority of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. Now Mafah has the opportunity to shine and show he is worthy of backing up starter Javonte Williams. Both Mafah and Jaydon Blue have been getting more reps with the starters. The Cowboys coaching staff may view Mafah as the back best suited to back up Williams, thanks to his size and physical running style. It will be up to Mafah to prove it on the field and take control of the RB2 spot. Here are more headlines, news and notes from the Cowboys as the weekend kicks off.Dallas Cowboys Top HeadlinesReaching playoffs the 'minimum' for Dak Prescott, Cowboys in 2026 :: DallasCowboys.com (Link)Cowboys testing out new insurance policy for $24M investment :: Cowboys Wire (Link)Meet the new Cowboys players recently added to the roster :: Blogging The Boys (Link)Cowboys have no clear RB2 favorite after Brian Schottenheimer reveals backfield plan :: The Sporting News (Link)6 Biggest Takeaways From Dallas Cowboys' Shortened Mandatory Minicamp :: Sports Illustrated (Link)5 Documentaries About the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ Impressive History :: People.com (Link)4 Winners & 2 Losers From Dallas Cowboys Mandatory Minicamp :: Sports Illustrated (Link)Christian Parker is the source of so much Dallas Cowboys optimism :: Blogging The Boys (Link)Which NFL breakouts, nosedives will continue in 2026 season? :: ESPN.com (Link)Charles Snowden Signing Puts 3 Cowboys Edge Rushers on Notice :: Inside The Star (Link)Cowboys' quest to fix biggest flaw hinges on under-the-radar signing :: The Landry Hat (Link)Dallas Cowboys' Most Notable Injury Updates Following Mandatory Minicamp :: Sports Illustrated (Link)Latest Updates Around the NFC EastCommanders subtly expose the Cowboys' target driving their defensive urgency :: Riggo's Rag (Link)Jeffery Simmons contract extension holds meaning for Jalen Carter and the Eagles :: Bleeding Green Nation (Link)Philadelphia Eagles Likely to Trade Superstar Jalen Carter? An Israeli strike hits a Gaza City apartment, killing 2 children, Palestinian health officials say

(AP Photo/Abdel Kareem Hana)2026-06-20T10:20:38Z DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza (AP) — An Israeli strike early Saturday killed at least two children in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian health officials said.Despite an October ceasefire between Israel and the militant group Hamas, the enclave has seen near-daily Israeli attacks that have killed over 1,007 Palestinians, the Gaza Health Ministry said.Saturday’s strike hit an apartment in Gaza City around 2 a.m local time, according to the ministry, with the death toll expected to rise as rescue teams work on recovering more bodies. There was no immediate information on the number of the wounded. At the site of the attack, an Associated Press reporter saw scattered rubble and chunks of concrete stained with blood. The bodies of the two sisters, 4-year-old Zina and 14-year-old Lana, were sent to Shifa Hospital’s morgue, where they lay shrouded in white hospital bags, surrounded by family members. “I was sitting at home. The rocket fell on us without a warning,” said their cousin, Mohammad Safadi, who had a forehead wound. He said both he and his wife were wounded in the attack.“This ceasefire the occupation and the negotiation team speak of … is this really a ceasefire? We are civilians. I never held a weapon,” Safadi added. The Israeli military didn’t immediately issue a statement, but said it was looking into the incident. Israel says it is targeting Hamas and other militants who pose a threat. Read More Five Israeli soldiers have been killed since the truce. The war erupted when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage on Oct. 7, 2023. Israel’s retaliatory military offensive in the Gaza Strip has since killed 73,018 Palestinians, including those slain since the ceasefire, Gaza’s Health Ministry said Saturday. The health ministry, part of the Hamas-led government, is staffed by medical professionals and maintains detailed records that are generally considered reliable by United Nations agencies and independent experts. It does not distinguish between civilians and militants but says women and children make up around half of all fatalities. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

A top banker made a case for mining to Pope Leo XIV, who has seen its impact up close
The President of the Inter-American Development Bank Ilan Goldfajn speaks to the Associated Press during an interview in Rome, Thursday, June 18, 2026. (AP Photo/Domenico Stinellis)2026-06-20T09:50:13Z ROME (AP) — The head of Latin America’s top development bank made a pitch to Pope Leo XIV this week in the face of the Vatican’s call to divest from the mining industry: that the mistakes of the past can be avoided in extracting rare earth minerals to supply a global tech boom. Ilan Goldfajn, head of the Inter-American Development Bank, met privately with the pope on Friday and asserted the potential of rare earth mining, saying it could be a boon to Latin America provided there are safeguards and value is added locally. It’s probably not an easy sell. The Vatican for years has taken a firm stand against multinational mining corporations, especially in Latin America and in favor of the Indigenous peoples, whose lands and livelihoods are often ravaged when mining projects come to town. Goldfajn’s visit, which followed one earlier this year by mining executives, suggests that he recognizes the weight of the pope’s words in the majority-Catholic region, and a desire to sensitize him to the possibility of a better way of doing business. Whether Leo can be swayed is another matter, given his own experience in the region and criticism of the often corrupt deals mining companies ink with governments in the developing world. The 17 rare earth elements are a subset of them. They’re used in a wide range of products, including smartphones, semiconductors, electric vehicles and jet engines. “It’s a unique opportunity for the region, but you need to do it in the right way with the standards, the labor conditions, with the environmental conditions, the governance,” Goldfajn said in an interview in Rome on June 18, one day before his meeting. Read More “We have exactly the tools to do that,” he added, noting the IADB has a roughly $4 billion pipeline of critical mineral projects in the region, mostly in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, and three-quarters of that amount with private companies. He had just delivered a presentation on rare earth minerals at a finance conference, with an eye on potential European investors. A pope who knows PeruMining has a checkered, centuries-long history in Latin America, from forced labor and displacement of Indigenous peoples to deforestation, poisoning of waterways and deadly dam collapses. Foreign companies withdrew much of the wealth from the earth without enriching local populations. In colonial times, silver and gold made its way across the ocean to adorn Catholic churches.Leo, who spent two decades working as a missionary in Peru, would be intimately familiar with the plight of Indigenous peoples in mining areas and the environmental impact of extraction industries on the land. He ministered in Chulucanas, in the archdiocese of Piura, which has huge copper mining projects, and in Trujillo, known for its gold deposits. His final Peruvian posting, Chiclayo, is a big logistical hub for northern Peru’s extraction industries. He noted that Leo held a private audience with a group of top mining executives in January, which he heard from them had been “very constructive.” The President of the Inter-American Development Bank Ilan Goldfajn speaks to the Associated Press during an interview in Rome, Thursday, June 18, 2026. At a Vatican news conference, top officials held up an ecumenical Christian network, known as the Church and Mining Network, that is active in particular in Latin America. The campaign seeks to encourage local churches to review their investment strategies and divest where needed, and to share information especially with Indigenous groups about the types of extraction occurring on their lands.Leo is expected to visit Peru in November, including places where he ministered. In each of the three sub-Saharan countries he visited during his April trip to Africa — Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea — he blasted the “colonization” of Africa’s minerals by mining companies. It makes sense for people like Goldfajn to try to engage Leo, even if the pope alone won’t move investment decisions, Bryan Harris, managing partner at Sabio, a Latin America-focused strategic advisory firm, wrote in an email. “The decades he spent in Peru give him personal credibility and his messaging on mining sets the tone for how dioceses and parishes across the continent will engage with mining companies and projects,” said Harris, who consults for international mining companies in the region. “These groups are often the basis of local opposition movements to mining, so the Pope has considerable sway on whether relations are confrontational or conciliatory.” A mine operated by Serra Verde Mining in Minacu, Goias state, Brazil, Monday, July 28, 2025, produces rare earth elements, including neodymium, praseodymium, terbium and dysprosium which are essential for the production of permanent magnets. Mining as colonization in modern dayLeo’s predecessor, Pope Francis, a native of Argentina, singled out the toll of mining in his 2015 environmental encyclical “Praised Be,” noting the pollution of underground water systems as a result of runoff, the mercury pollution in gold mining or sulfur dioxide pollution in copper mining.Francis said it was “essential” for Indigenous communities to be the principal dialogue partners when large projects affecting their land are being considered. The Vatican didn’t provide any readout of Leo’s private audience with Goldfajn. In a separate audience Friday, Leo met with participants in a conference at the Vatican’s environmental educational center named for Francis’ 2015 encyclical. He denounced the profit-at-all cost mentality of those who seek to plunder the earth “at the expense of the most vulnerable and enhances the risk of dehumanization.”There are 75 million tons (82.7 million U.S. tons) of rare earth oxides around the world, more than half in China, and with Brazil home to the second-largest reserves, according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s most recent estimate.
