LA Mayor Bass declares emergency to secure resources to help fight warehouse fire

Hong)2026-06-20T23:36:06Z LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared an emergency Saturday to ensure the city gets the resources it needs to fight a large warehouse fire that has sent large plumes of smoke into the air. “The city and county have opened spaces for families seeking relief from the smoke, and we will continue working around the clock and doing everything possible to put this fire out completely,” Bass said in a news release announcing the emergency declaration. The fire at a privately owned cold-storage warehouse in the city’s Boyle Heights neighborhood started Wednesday, prompting shelter-in-place orders in the area because of the risk of hazardous air. Residents were told to close all windows, doors and vents, turn off air conditioning and bring people and pets to an inside room.Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Jaime Moore said in a news conference that they have taken care of the hazardous materials portion of the blaze and now they are working on the biohazard challenges. “We have 85 million pounds of frozen food inside of this facility and the way the building has been laid out, it’s very difficult for us to get in there because there’s zero visibility inside,” Moore said. “Our firefighters are not able to just go in there and start moving pallets.” The mayor’s declaration asks for recovery help under the California Disaster Assistance Act. She also asked the state to expedite access to resources and other relief programs. Read More Bass said their chief concern is for the health and safety of the people impacted by the fire, so they are trying to secure the help needed to move the toxic materials away from the area and dispose of them in a way that will avert a major environmental disaster. “So this is about prevention,” she said. “This is about protecting your public health.” 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

Newly released video captures the aftermath of a fatal teen stabbing at a Texas track meet
In this image taken from Frisco Police Department body camera footage, an officer arrests Karmelo Anthony at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025. (Frisco Police Department via AP)2026-06-20T21:41:36Z FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Newly released video from an officer’s body camera and a surveillance camera at a Texas running track captures the moments after a teenage athlete fatally stabbed another teen from a rival team in the stadium bleachers during a high school meet last year.Karmelo Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder on June 10 in the death of Austin Metcalf, 17, and sentenced to 35 years in prison. A jury rejected Anthony’s claims of self-defense. The videos were included in a batch of evidence released by the Collin County court following the conclusion of the trial. The surveillance video shows the track and bleachers on a rainy day. Suddenly a figure wearing a gray sweatshirt is seen popping up from behind a yellow tent and then running down the steps. The video has no sound. He got to the bottom of the bleachers, tripped and fell on the ground, and then kept running along the edge of the fencing that separates the bleachers from the running track. He stopped briefly, turned to look at what appeared to be someone chasing him, and then kept running. After making his way part way around the track, he was joined by an unidentified person. They stopped to talk and then hugged. They started walking again and were joined by another person. After talking more, Anthony walked toward the fence where he appeared to meet up with a police officer. The officer put him in handcuffs and walked him toward the police cruiser. Anthony obeyed the officer’s commands and then started crying.“He put his hands on me,” Anthony said in a broken voice. “I told him not to. He put his hands on me.”The officers escorted him to the police cruiser and placed him inside.

Saudis seek to repeat Argentina World Cup 'miracle' against Spain
Georgios Donis is hoping for another Saudi Arabia World Cup 'miracle' against Spain (Florencia Tan Jun)Saudi Arabia coach Georgios Donis said his side cannot show Spain too much respect as they aim to repeat a shock victory over eventual winners Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.Spain are under pressure to bounce back from a 0-0 draw against World Cup debutants Cape Verde, but face a Saudi side that themselves held Uruguay to a 1-1 draw in their opening game.Donis only took charge of the 2034 World Cup hosts in April after short-lived reigns for Roberto Mancini and Herve Renard. It was Renard who oversaw the famous win over Lionel Messi's Argentina in Qatar during his first spell as Saudi boss and Donis is hoping those memories can inspire a similar outcome in Atlanta on Sunday."It's nice to have miracles in football and we've seen it many times. We've seen it in the World Cup, we've seen it in other tournaments, we've seen favourites losing against underdogs," the Greek coach said at his pre-match press conference."It's great to have great memories in our national team such as the game against Argentina."We have to play against one of the best teams in the world and it's very important when you get to this sort of tournament and you have this sort of joy of playing against these teams to be able to enjoy those games, to respect the opponent but also not to respect them more than you should."Spain's inability to break down the Cape Verdean defence highlighted La Roja's reliance on the brilliance of Lamine Yamal. The 18-year-old only featured as a second half substitute as he is eased back to fitness after a hamstring injury.Yamal is expected to take his place in the starting line-up on Sunday, even though he is not yet ready to play 90 minutes.Donis hailed the Barcelona winger as the "biggest talent" in world football right now and did not hold back in recognising that Spain are less effective without him."Spain is not the same team when Yamal is on the bench," added Donis."I think Yamal is maybe this period the biggest talent in the world. I think he started to replace Messi in Barcelona in the best way."I didn't see a player at this age to make this difference and to have this quality and to play with this maturity. "For me the most important is not about the skills, but about the maturity and he knows what he can do every moment and that is the biggest difference."kca/gj

You can guess who had the biggest 54-hole U.S. Open lead — but here's the full list
Tiger Woods' 10-shot lead after the third round of the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach seemed a feat of Herculean proportions. It was the championship’s 100th playing, and the 24-year-old phenom was making his 100th start as a professional. What followed was less a victory than a coronation. At the absolute peak of his powers, Woods transformed one of golf’s most exacting stages into his own private showcase. Pebble Beach, perched along the California coastline and revered for its beauty and brutality, became the backdrop for a performance that left competitors chasing shadows and spectators searching for comparisons.“What he did at Pebble Beach is still the greatest performance in golf of all time,” Phil Mickelson would later say, speaking as both rival and witness. The numbers alone still seem outlandish. Woods opened with a 65 and never relented — adding rounds of 69, 71 and 67 to dismantle the field. He finished at 12 under par, a staggering total for a U.S. Open, and 15 shots clear of everyone else. But the margin tells only part of the story. For four days, Woods didn’t just win — he separated himself from the championship itself, redefining what dominance could look like on golf’s toughest stage. And while large 54-hole leads are few and far between, what Wyndham Clark is doing this week at Shinnecock Hills ranks among the all-time greatest performances. Even after a bogey on the 18th hole, Clark will have a massive six-shot edge as he heads into the final round on Sunday. Here's how it ranks with previous efforts.Largest 54-hole leads in U.S. Open historyYearLeader54-hole leadFinal position2000Tiger Woods101st2011Rory McIlroy81st1921Jim Barnes71st2026Wyndham Clark6TBD1898Fred Herd61st1903Willie Anderson61st (playoff)1933John Goodman61st1902Laurie Auchterlonie51st1919Mike Brady5T-21930Bobby Jones51st2014Martin Kaymer51stA total of 39 players have carried a cushion of five shots or more into the final round of a major. From that, 33 have converted, turning Sunday into little more than a procession. The last to let one slip remains Jean van de Velde, whose five-shot lead at the 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie dissolved into one of the game’s most infamous finishes, ending in a three-man playoff he ultimately lost.Push that margin to six strokes, and the outcome has been even more predictable. Twenty-one players have reached Sunday with at least a six-shot advantage — and only one failed to close. That exception, however, is memorable: Greg Norman at the 1996 Masters, whose final-round 78 at Augusta National opened the door for Nick Faldo, who stormed through to win by five.Tim Schmitt is the managing editor of Golfweek. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: US Open 54-hole leads: How Wyndham Clark stacks against Tiger Woods

  • Scottie Scheffler has an eventful back nine to tie for second through three US Open rounds
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler raised a club in his left hand and fist-pumped with his right while the crowd roared so loudly the cheers reverberated around Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.Chipping in from 65 feet on the 14th hole began a stretch of three consecutive birdies Saturday for Scheffler, who went into the third round outside the top 10 at the U.S. Open. Slightly more subdued fist pumps followed, as did a bogey after landing his tee shot in the bunker on No. 17.By the time his eventful back nine was over, Scheffler shot a 69 tie for second place at 1 under for the tournament. He was six strokes behind leader Wyndham Clark going into Sunday.“We’ve been battling hard for a few days, and I did a good job of keeping myself in the tournament,” Scheffler said. “It was nice to steal a couple there on the back nine when I really needed them as the tournament was kind of slipping away from me.”Milestone day for SchefflerOnly Arnold Palmer in 1960 and Johnny Miller in 1973 have won the U.S. Open when trailing by six or more strokes going into the final round. The opportunity to pull off the third such comeback after 54 holes just happens to land on Scheffler’s 30th birthday and Father's Day, not long after he and wife Meredith Scudder welcomed their second child in April.“We want to be in these positions,” Scheffler said. “This is why we practice and play: to have the opportunity to win golf tournaments, and that’s what (this) is. I have an opportunity to go out there and have a great round and give myself a chance to win the tournament.”Scheffler dug himself a holeAfter an opening 72 in the gusting wind, Scheffler has been playing catch-up since. While shooting 68 on Friday got him into the mix, he still went into the weekend outside the top 10 with a lot of players between him and the top of the leaderboard.Scheffler fell two more shots back of Clark by bogeying the first two holes Saturday. His tee shot went way left into the hay and his next one into the bunker on No. 1, then he was short right into the sand and missed a 6-foot putt on No. 2.After parring Nos. 3 and 4, he faltered on the easiest place on the course at 5, two-putting on a hole more than half the field made birdie or better. “I got off to a tough start,” Scheffler said. “Just did my best to try and stay patient.”Back nine had ups and downsHis first birdie of the third round didn't come until the 10th hole, hitting a flop shot he said he has only made a few of that caliber in his career. The birdie on No. 14 he felt gave him some momentum, and the emotional celebration showed how he felt.Scheffler found his groove to birdie No. 15 and then had to wait several minutes to tee off on 16 because of people moving around in his line of sight. Caddie Ted Scott ran down the fairway to clear the path.“Ted finally, I think, got tired of trying to holler,” Scheffler said. “He just got a little impatient and ran up there and got them out of the way.”Scheffler was not thrown off his rhythm, and his second shot took a perfect bounce to within just over 13 feet of the cup. Even missing that eagle putt, he was able to move another shot closer.Being slightly off target on a par putt on the 17th hole and a birdie attempt on the 18th prevented him from being in sole possession of second place but didn't take away from his overall satisfaction.“You can hit a lot of good shots and end up in some spots where you’re going to be frustrated with the result, but I think that’s part of the U.S. Open test,” Scheffler said. “Proud of how we played on the back nine."___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf

🚨 Germany on alert! Schlotterbeck’s World Cup could be over
🚨 Germany on alert! Schlotterbeck’s World Cup could be overNico Sclotterbeck raised alarm bells in Germany’s second Group Stage match after failing to finish the game due to injury. "Honestly, it doesn’t look good at all," Julian Nagelsmann said in the press conference. And according to Kerry Hau of Sky Sports, the German player could miss the rest of the World Cup due to an injury to the medial ligament in his ankle, meaning he will have to undergo an MRI upon returning to Die Mannschaft’s base camp. If the diagnosis is confirmed, the World Cup would be over for the Borussia Dortmund defender. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. 📹 Remember him? Flu hero misses a sitter, becomes a global jokeIn Kansas City, United States, the score remains 0-0 for Ecuador vs. Curaçao this Saturday (20), in the second round of Group E of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.The situation, however, could have been different if an "old acquaintance" had not missed an unbelievable goal just two minutes into the match. That would be Enner Valencia, who found himself free right on the edge of the six-yard box, but ended up being denied by Curaçao’s goalkeeper. The missed chance did not bring only "good memories" for Fluminense fans and "nightmares" for Internacional fans. The foreign press, more specifically Argentina’s Diario Olé, posted an edit of the World Cup play with the caption: "WATCH OUT! Enner Valencia wasted a clear one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper right at the start of the match, and the shot went horribly wide...". On social media, Brazilian fans also did not let the play go unnoticed. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. You can read the original version in 🇧🇷 here.

Where Oregon alum Wyndham Clark sits heading to U.S. Open final round
Former Oregon Ducks golfer Wyndham Clark holds a commanding lead after three of four rounds of the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island, New York, seeking his second title in the four-day tournament after winning in 2023.Clark, who competed at the University of Oregon from 2016-17 after his first four collegiate seasons at Oklahoma State, holds a six-stroke lead heading into the final day of the tournament over Scottie Scheffler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Sam Stevens, all in second place one stroke under par. Clark set a 36-hole record for the lowest score in a U.S. Open held at Shinnecock Hills through two days and now is the undisputed favorite, baring a collapse, to win his second U.S. Open championship.Clark sits seven strokes under par with a three-day score of 203. Clark's performance so far at the 2026 U.S. Open serves as a bit of redemption after a disappointing finish and subsequent ban from Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh after damaging two lockers following his performance.Clark did not make the 36-hole cut during the 2025 US Open after winning it in 2023, and took out his frustrations on two lockers, which led to a temporary ban after pictures of the damage went viral on social media. The Oregon alum told reporters this week that the incident doesn't reflect who he is and that he's hoping he can "win back the fans" with a more mature approach this year. Clark will tee off in the final round at 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Fans can watch Day 4 of the tournament on USA Network from 6 to 9 a.m., then from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. coverage will be on NBC and Peacock.Alec Dietz covers University of Oregon football and women’s basketball for The Register-Guard. Detroit headlines teams targeting Charlotte's Coby White in free agency
Charlotte Hornets fans were concerned earlier this week, following a report from Marc Stein that indicated recent trade acquisition Coby White could be "gettable" in free agency by opposing teams this offseason. With that in mind, besides Charlotte, what other franchises could be interested in the former UNC guard?Stein has already reported that Detroit has interest in White, as the Pistons look for a shot-creator off the bench behind Cade Cunningham. In addition to Detroit, the Brooklyn Nets would likely be interested in signing White as well. Of all the suitors, Brooklyn could be the most dangerous, as the Nets are among teams with the most cap space at their disposal this summer. If unable to re-sign Ayo Dosunmu, the Minnesota Timberwolves would be a logical fit for White too.Lastly, teams that considered making a move for White at last February's trade deadline could have renewed interest in the seven-year pro. Those teams include the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks and the Los Angeles Clippers. This article originally appeared on Rookie Wire: Pistons headline teams targeting Charlotte's Coby White in free agency

U.S. Open 2026: The brilliance, frustration and resilience of Scottie Scheffler
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — It's tempting, albeit short-sighted, to view Scottie Scheffler's Saturday at Shinnecock through the lens of his last two holes. Had he made the seven-foot par putt after an exceptional bunker shot on 17, and had he holed the downhill four-foot birdie putt on 18, he'd have finished at three under, just three shots behind Wyndham Clark, who was fighting his own battles many holes behind. It would have guaranteed Scheffler a spot in the final group and given Clark a few unsettling scenarios to ponder. It would also have meant he shot a frankly unbelievable 30 on the back nine and come off the course with the kind of torrid momentum that would have to rattle the seemingly unshakeable leader, at least a little. But let's temper the recency bias just a bit with a few relevant facts:—Scheffler shot a 69, one under, which was one of exactly two under par rounds in the entire field (shout out Emiliano Grillo who somehow found a 67 out there.)—He shot a 32 on the back nine, best of the field, and the list of players who broke par on that brutal inward nine is three names long—Scheffler, Clark and Sahith Theegala.—The USGA upped the green speed, the wind blew (though maybe not as much as the gleeful amateur meteorologists were predicting), dust was in the air, and the list of players under par dwindled from ten to three.—Scheffler himself seemed upset on the range at the state of his swing (conducting animated discussions with his coach Randy Smith) and started the day with two straight bogeys. He was lucky to make the first one, too, burying a nine-footer to prevent an early disaster. To come back from that and actually finish under par on a day when the field's average score was almost four over is a testament to his grit.—There's also this—you could argue that missing the putts on 17 and 18 was a little unlucky, but luck also swung the right way a few times, most notably on 14, when he faced a tricky up and down for par from behind the green, and instead holed the chip for birdie. Ditto for his second shot on 16, which was an act of genius, but also touched with good fortune itself, a few yards and a bad hop from getting lost in the bunkers. That list hopefully gives a bit of context to an exceptional day at Shinnecock, and yet......and yet, behind him, Wyndham Clark just kept getting up and down from trouble, and then made a massive birdie on 14, and then delivered the kiss of death with the only eagle of the entire tournament on 16 and now carries a six-shot lead into the final round that looks impregnable. We can give Scheffler all the credit in the world for his fight, but that first instinct is still true; he gave up a universe of momentum because he couldn't make the crucial putts at the crucial time to put real pressure on Clark. Wild things can happen on Sunday, and he earned his spot in the final group after surviving a scare from Sam Stevens, but as the sun sets over Shinnecock, it doesn't feel hyperbolic to say that those putts cost him a chance—even the shadow of a chance—to win the U.S. Open, and the career Grand Slam with it.At his press conference, Scheffler looked appropriately wind-whipped and exhausted. He gamely answered the 12 questions that came his way, but when he tried to explain why the course was hard, or what the chip-in on 14 meant for him, he expelled the words in a quiet rush with intent but no energy behind them. As a sign of how he viewed his own day, he said the words "steal" or "stealing" or "stole" six times, making it clear that Shinnecock was only yielding birdies at the point of the knife. When asked how he viewed his position heading into Sunday, he mustered the verve to crack a joke."I mean, I'd rather be leading," he said. The laugh didn't last long."We've been battling hard for a few days," he continued, "and I did a good job of keeping myself in the tournament. I'll need a really nice round tomorrow if I'm going to try and catch Wyndham."David CannonJust as he was saying those words, Clark made a 14-foot putt on No. 13 to save par and remain at six under. Later, Scheffler would speculate on the final margin, placing it between three shots and seven shots, but knowing what he'd just survived, he couldn't have expected that it would shake out close to the worst-case scenario. All he could do was analyze the conditions, and the assessment from the podium was like listening to a soldier assess the enemy's formations after being routed in battle."The fairways were starting to firm up yesterday," he said. "Then the greens today started to firm up ... on the greens, you'd see some pretty green grass and then some very brown grass, so there was a little bit of mystery in terms of how the ball was going to react when it hit the green ... I feel like if you hit a great shot, you're going to get rewarded. Good shots are going to be borderline. I assume going into tomorrow they're going to continue to get firmer and firmer."As for the putt on 18, he could only shrug his shoulders at the "mystery" of how the ball would break late in the day. They read inside left, he hit it inside left, but it never stopped breaking. So it goes. Everyone got beat up, but Clark was more immune than the others, and now Scheffler seems to be chasing a fantasy rather than a career slam. But when it was all over, he was back on the range, and then on the putting green, where you could see him attempting a replica of the putt he missed on 18. Barring a meltdown that would match Norman's humiliation in '96, he's not winning the U.S. Open tomorrow, but if there's a shred of hope here, it's contained in everything that happened on Saturday, and how it reaffirmed the most material truth: Bury him on the leaderboard, muck up his swing, throw wind and sun and dust in his face, and he'll still be up for the fight.MORE GOLF DIGEST U.S. OPEN COVERAGEU.S. Open 101: Answering all your frequently asked questionsHow to watch the 2026 U.S. OpenPower Rankings: Every player in the U.S. Open field, rankedHere’s the record prize money payout for each golfer at the U.S. OpenVideo: Every hole at Shinnecock HillsWhy can't the USGA get Shinnecock Hills right? A 'Who's That?' list of dreamers joins Scheffler in 2nd at the US Open, needing to make up 6 shots
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — The bunched leaderboard, the inability to pull away, the momentum changing with virtually every shot.Yes, the race for second place Sunday in the final round of the U.S. Open figures to be a nailbiter. Three players whose names will drive Google searches galore for the casual golf fans — Tom Kim, Sam Stevens and Sahith Theegala — found themselves tied with a bigger name, Scottie Scheffler, in a four-way logjam for second at Shinnecock. They all finished Saturday's third round trailing leader Wyndham Clark by six shots."As you can see, it’s kind of a jumbled leaderboard," Kim said, “except for where the leader is.”For the record, a six-shot rally would be one less than the biggest final-round comeback in U.S. Open history. That belongs to Arnold Palmer, back in 1960 at Cherry Hills. Even if they had resumes approaching Palmer's, the odds would be stacked against these three dreamers. Turns out, they don't. Kim, Stevens and Theegala have a total of one top-5 finish in majors between them. All in their 20s and looking for a breakthrough, they have a total of 39 starts in majors between them, dating to 2020.They will play in groups ahead of Scheffler, whose early round of 69 left him in that jumble at 1-under 209 and gave him the last, and featured, tee time with Clark on Sunday. The other three are looking to make a name for themselves, but it's quite a hill to climb. If Clark falters or Shinnecock Hills rises up — now less likely with the wind expected to calm down — then Scheffler would be the best bet to scoop up the trophy and wrap up the career Grand Slam. “So much of it kind of depends on what Wyndham does,” Stevens said. “I could play a great round tomorrow and shoot 3- or 4-under and still lose by seven.”But, stranger things have happened. “There's a disaster waiting to happen on every hole,” Theegala said. “So you just have to be patient.”A quick look at the group in second place:Sahith TheegalaAt Pepperdine, became only the fifth player in the last 30 years to win the three biggest awards for college players: The Fred Haskins, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus Awards. But Theegala became a bigger name when he appeared on the Netflix series “Full Swing,” which takes an inside look at players on the PGA Tour. He was still living at home when he made it to the tour, and things like doing his laundry felt new. Theegala's best major finish was ninth place at the 2023 Masters.Quotable: “There’s a lot of danger involved in pushing it a little bit, but you do have opportunities to kind of make a push at the end there.” Tom KimKim became a lightning rod for his fiery appearances at the Presidents Cup in 2022 and 2024. There was friction because of the fist-pumping antics he pulled and some difference of opinion over who, if anyone, crossed the line when he teamed with Si Woo Kim in a match against Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.Kim also made a splash of sorts when he waded into a swamp looking for an errant tee shot at the 2023 PGA at Oak Hill. He came out a muddy mess and had to dip into a stream to clean up — a viral moment that he explained by saying: "I mean it’s a major championship. I’m fighting for every single stroke I have.”Kim finished in a tie for second at the 2023 British Open, though he shot a 67 to pull into that tie and was still six shots behind winner Brian Harman in a major as lopsided as this one is shaping up to be.Quotable: “I think you’ve just got to look at it as you’ve got to kind of do your own thing. USMNT-Australia delivers strong viewership across Fox, Telemundo
Credit: REUTERS/Albert GeaEven on a Friday afternoon, the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage match between the United States and Australia brought in another impressive audience for Fox and Telemundo.Fox revealed preliminary numbers on Saturday showing that the USMNT-Australia match averaged 14.781 million viewers, making it the most-watched Friday afternoon telecast on any network since the USMNT-England World Cup match on Black Friday in 2022 (15.38 million viewers). The USMNT’s 2-0 win over Australia made for the third-most-watched men’s World Cup group stage match. One of those matches was the USMNT’s first game of this World Cup vs. Paraguay, which averaged a record 18.037 million viewers (the preliminary number was 15.986 million).Additionally, the USMNT-Australia telecast peaked at 19.169 million viewers (4:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET), which is even higher than the preliminary peak audience of 18.86 million reported for the USMNT-Paraguay match.G’day: The preliminary numbers are in and America showed out. The @USMNT’s 2-0 victory over Australia delivered 14,781,000 viewers on FOX, ranking as the best Friday afternoon telecast on any broadcast network since 2022. pic.twitter.com/8b6cYJ1Hy3— FOX Sports PR (@FOXSportsPR) June 20, 2026Telemundo’s preliminary numbers revealed an average audience of 5.9 million viewers for the USMNT-Australia match on the Spanish-language broadcast. The USMNT-Paraguay match had a preliminary number of 8.9 million viewers.Interestingly, the Brazil-Haiti match actually had a higher preliminary audience, averaging 6.3 million viewers. Another strong matchday. Yesterday’s preliminary numbers are in. 5.9 million preliminary Total Audience Delivery (TAD) viewers for USA vs. Australia, up +27% vs. Team USA’s second FIFA World Cup Group Stage match in 2022. USA vs. Australia generated 3.1 million… pic.twitter.com/L9w2xjbKjm— NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises (@NBCUTelemundo) June 20, 2026In total, the Fox and Telemundo telecasts combined to average roughly 20.7 million viewers per the preliminary numbers. And as was the case with the USMNT-Paraguay data, the viewership total should rise once the final numbers are released. The viewership numbers declined from the USMNT-Paraguay match, but that’s no surprise due to the time slot, even on a national holiday with Juneteenth. A Friday afternoon is not going to lead to better viewership numbers than a primetime audience would (USMNT-Paraguay began at 9 p.m. ET on the previous Friday, for example). As Awful Announcing’s Matt Yoder wrote, the USMNT’s schedule in this World Cup could’ve been more optimized for an American viewing audience. It’s also important to note that this is the first World Cup under the Big Data+ methodology, which has generally boosted live viewership of sporting events by roughly 15%.USMNT’s final match in the group stage will be against Turkey on Thursday, June 25, at 10 p.m. ET. The USMNT has already clinched the top spot in Group D, while Turkey has already been eliminated. So, neither team has anything to play for but pride, and it will be interesting to see if that’s detrimental to the television ratings. And even if that happens, the viewership numbers for the USMNT’s to-be-determined match in the knockout stage on July 1 (8 p.m. ET) should more than make up for it.The post USMNT-Australia delivers strong viewership across Fox, Telemundo appeared first on Awful Announcing.

  • Dutch royals swap orange for blue as they cheer for the Netherlands, then Curaçao at the World Cup
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands began Saturday by cheering the Dutch past Sweden in Houston. The monarchs ended the day by watching Curacao play Ecuador in Kansas City. The small island nation of Curacao is a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and that makes King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima the heads of state. So, after a quick flight north Saturday, the royal couple dutifully swapped out their bright orange scarves of Het Oranje Legioen they wore to their earlier match with bright blue ones for The Blue Wave.Curacao, the smallest World Cup team in population and size, made its tournament debut last Sunday in a 7-1 loss to Germany.“It is an extra-special World Cup because we have both the Netherlands and Curacao,” Willem-Alexander told RTL-TV. “So we have twice as many teams to cheer for. A great opportunity to cheer on both the Blues and the Oranges. All in all, it will be a special World Cup for me with two teams, and I naturally hope they go extremely far.”The Netherlands moved one step closer to the knockout round after a 5-1 win over Sweden.Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo scored two goals apiece to help coach Ronald Koeman's team bounce back from a disappointing draw in its opener and move atop Group F. The Netherlands concludes group play against Tunisia on Thursday in Kansas City.It is quite rare for sitting monarchs to come through the area. Queen Ann of Romania attended the dedication of the Liberty Memorial, which is where Kansas City is holding its World Cup FanFest, in the 1920s, while King Gustav XVI of Sweden made a stop in the small Kansas town of Lindsborg when he was passing through the Midwest in the 1970s.___AP World Cup coverage: https://apnews.com/hub/fifa-world-cup

"I can't thank everyone enough for coming out to support me today, this wouldn't be possible without this amazing support."I want the biggest and best fights next, I want to earn as much money as I can for my family, but I'm so grateful to fight here - look at this crowd and atmosphere, Southampton's the place to be." The Cyclones have strengthened their softball roster with the addition of two impactful transfers, pitcher Kennedy Diggs from Kansas and utility player Maggie Werner from the Minnesota.Kennedy Diggs joins the Iowa State program as a sophomore following two seasons at Kansas. A standout pitcher from Creighton, Missouri, Diggs entered college with a legendary high school resume, holding the career record at Sherwood High School with 1,308 strikeouts, including a single season where she retired 511 batters. In 2025, she was recognized on the Softball America Freshman Watch List after finishing her debut season with a 4–1 record and a 4.04 ERA, highlighted by a nine-strikeout shutout performance against East Texas A&M. Beyond her 42 hits and five home runs, she was a defensive anchor with a .990 fielding percentage and 278 putouts. Her collegiate journey is marked by steady progression, having transitioned from a redshirt freshman year in 2023 to becoming a central starter and a team leader by 2026.In addition to their on-field production, both athletes bring a high level of character and academic excellence to the Cyclones. Werner is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was the recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2026. Extreme heat expected again at the Grand Canyon after 3 hikers die in heat-related incidents
The Kaibab Trail, running right to left at center, at Grand Canyon National Park on Jan. 20, 2001. (AP Photo/Matt York, File)2026-06-20T17:35:38Z GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — Visitors to Grand Canyon National Park are being warned about extreme temperatures that will hit the popular destination early next week after a recent increase in heat-related incidents in the inner canyon, including the deaths of three hikers. The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat watch at the Grand Canyon for midday Monday through Tuesday, forecasting temperatures that could reach or exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius) at the low-elevation Phantom Ranch.People are “strongly advised” to avoid hiking in the middle of the day, the National Park Service said this week in a statement following a “recent influx of heat-related incidents.”An extreme heat watch was in effect June 16 when two hikers, ages 67 and 68, were found dead on the North Kaibab Trail, which the NPS describes as the most difficult of the major inner canyon trails. The service said they appeared to have succumbed to symptoms of heat-related illness. A third person, 72, died June 12 along the South Kaibab Trail after becoming ill from the heat, NPS said. About 90 miles (145 kilometers) to the south, Oak Creek Canyon visitors and residents were evacuated late Friday as a wildfire burned hundreds of acres just north of Sedona.Much of the Western U.S. from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast saw above-average temperatures Saturday and with even hotter weather anticipated for early next week. Officials also warned that the prolonged dry, hot weather and relatively low humidity increased the risk of fire danger. Read More Extreme heat increases risk of hiking at the Grand CanyonPark and weather officials alike emphasize to visitors that hiking conditions can be deceiving. Temperatures at the rim of the Grand Canyon are often 20 to 25 degrees cooler than what hikers will experience at the bottom. “It’s just a hot place at the bottom of the Grand Canyon,” said Justin Johndrow, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Flagstaff. Johndrow warned that the region is approaching the hottest period of the year before rain monsoon season later in the summer offers some relief.Hikers may have cooler temperatures and an easier time going downhill to start the descending trails, but they face an intense climb of thousands of feet in elevation and much hotter bottom-of-the-canyon temperatures to get back up. Those conditions can cause heat illness symptoms to sneak up on visitors.“That’s very strenuous even on a mild day,” Johndrow said of the hike back up to the rim. “Throw in temperatures of 105 to 110 degrees, and that causes some pretty bad problems.” Wildfire near Oak Creek Canyon posed risk to public safetyA federal interagency team and at least a dozen local agencies were working to combat the blaze, which was burning roughly 500 acres (200 hectares) of very steep and rough terrain near Oak Creek Canyon, said Dick Fleishman, fire information officer with the Southwest area complex incident management team. The fire was concentrated in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain wilderness area about 7 miles (11 kilometers) north of Sedona, but it started to creep into the Coconino National Forest. Firefighters were working to contain the burn, to prevent it from moving toward Oak Creek Canyon, where residents and visitors were evacuated, or Sedona, and to prepare for the possibility that it does. Fleishman said the steep slope, the nearby property at risk, the heat from the fire and the risk of post-fire flooding caused by rainwater rushing down the slope were among the reasons the Pocket Fire is particularly concerning. “This fire ramped up in complexity quickly,” he said. “We want to try and keep it as small a footprint as possible.” About 30 miles (50 kilometers) of the adjacent state highway was closed in both directions. The Coconino National Forest issued a formal closure Saturday afternoon for all campgrounds, picnic sites and trailheads in the area.“For June 20,” said Fleishman, who drove through the area, “I’ve never seen it that quiet.”Oak Creek Canyon attracts millions of visitors each year.

3 Uzbek Fighters Taking ONE Championship By Storm
Uzbekistan has emerged as one of combat sports’ most exciting martial arts hotbeds. The Central Asian nation has produced world-class athletes across multiple disciplines for decades, from striking to wrestling to MMA. Now, a new generation of Uzbek fighters is making waves in the world’s largest martial arts organization. What makes the current wave of Uzbek talent even more remarkable is the speed at which they’ve risen through the ranks. Many came through the weekly ONE Friday Fights series, where the organization develops its young talent, and parlayed impressive performances into lucrative six-figure main roster contracts in record time. Some have already reached the pinnacle, while others are knocking on the door of World Championship gold.View this post on InstagramThe story of Uzbek fighters in ONE Championship is one of relentless ambition, high-level training, and uncompromising dedication to excellence. These athletes represent their nation with pride and are establishing Uzbekistan as a major force that opponents cannot ignore.Three fighters in particular embody this explosive rise and have cemented themselves as the flag-bearers of Uzbekistan’s martial arts revolution.#1 Avazbek KholmirzaevView this post on InstagramHistory was written when Avazbek “Ninzya” Kholmirzaev dethroned Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu at ONE SAMURAI 1 this past April, becoming Uzbekistan’s first-ever ONE World Champion. The 25-year-old’s second-round knockout didn’t just win him the ONE Flyweight MMA World Title, it announced his country’s arrival as a major player in mixed martial arts. When Kholmirzaev returned home to Uzbekistan after his historic victory, he received a hero’s welcome that reflected the magnitude of his achievement. For a nation with a rich combat sports tradition, seeing one of their own crowned a ONE World Champion represented a watershed moment. The journey to the top has been remarkably swift. Training out of Team Raqobat, Kholmirzaev started his promotional run at ONE Friday Fights, where he won seven matches in eight outings. Those dominant performances earned him a life-changing six-figure main roster contract in 2025. In less than a year, the explosive and all-round fighter went from surging star to undisputed divisional champion. His overall record stands at an impressive 16-2, but his ONE statistics are even more eye-catching: 10-1 with nine finishes. Currently riding a seven-fight winning streak, Kholmirzaev is preparing for his first World Title defense. #2 Aslamjon OrtikovView this post on InstagramWhile Kholmirzaev has already captured gold, Aslamjon Ortikov sits just one fight away from making history of his own. The undefeated 23-year-old Muay Thai striker will challenge for the vacant ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship at The Inner Circle 20 on June 26 against fellow undefeated fighter Asadula Imangazaliev.Ortikov’s credentials are undeniable. His professional record stands at a perfect 24-0 with an impressive 13 finishes, proving he’s not content to win decisions. In ONE, he’s maintained that perfection with a 10-0 record and five stoppage victories. The 23-year-old earned his opportunity through epic performances at ONE Friday Fights, which resulted in a US$100,000 main roster contract. Since joining the global stage, Ortikov has defeated some of the world’s biggest Muay Thai stars, earning him respect in a sport that values tradition and proven skill. If Ortikov defeats Imangazaliev at The Inner Circle 20, he will become Uzbekistan’s first-ever ONE Muay Thai World Champion, further cementing his nation’s dominance across ONE’s multiple disciplines. Training at TC Muaythai and Sport Club Shakhriyor, he has the tools, the record, and the momentum to bring that title home.#3 Sanzhar ZakirovView this post on InstagramWhile Kholmirzaev has already claimed championship gold and Ortikov prepares for his own shot at the coveted belt, Sanzhar “Tornado” Zakirov represents the next wave of Uzbek talent. The 23-year-old remains undefeated with a perfect 16-0 mixed martial arts record and an unblemished 7-0 mark in ONE.Zakirov, who trains at Khaturaev Team, also came through the ONE Friday Fights pipeline and earned his US$100,000 contract after impressing in the weekly series. His undefeated record in the promotion suggests there’s plenty more success ahead for the young Uzbek sensation. At just 23 years old, Zakirov has already established himself among the division’s finest. As he continues to climb the ranks, the “Tornado” has all the potential to follow in Kholmirzaev’s footsteps and eventually compete for championship gold. For now, he remains focused on extending his winning streak when he faces Russia’s Ruslan Satiev at ONE Fight Night 45 on Prime Video on July 17.Source

New mindset, prior win give Clark confidence at US Open
American Wyndham Clark says he is more confident entering the final round of the 126th US Open at Shinnecock than he was ahead of his 2023 US Open triumph (DAVID CANNON)Wyndham Clark says a new mindset and a major victory in 2023 give him a confidence boost as he enters Sunday's final round of the US Open with a six-stroke lead.Clark eagled the par-five 16th but closed with a three-putt bogey to fire a level-par 70 in Saturday's third round to stand on seven-under 203 at windy Shinnecock."Tomorrow is going to be a new challenge. There's going to be some ups and downs. I'm really hoping I kind of bring my A-game finally, just sharper," Clark said."I made some dumb mistakes with wedges, which I normally don't do, and a couple of bad three-putts. If I can have my game, then I really love the opportunity."Clark, the 2023 US Open winner, will be in the final group with top-ranked American compatriot Scottie Scheffler, a four-time major winner who can complete a career Grand Slam with a victory."I get to play with one of the best players in the world on one of the best courses in the world in one of the best championships, so it's a dream come true," Clark said."Scottie is the best player in the world and he's going to play probably really good. He always does, but it's nice to have a six-shot lead on him."I'm going to keep approaching it the same way. If I go out and execute and go through my process and hit the shots I know I can hit, I like my chances."One major reason Clark does is because he has become less emotional and better at letting go of mistakes to focus on upcoming holes."I'm trying to get more consistent. Today was very volatile," Clark said. "Hopefully tomorrow it can be a little more low-key and hopefully I can play some boring golf."I've just gotten a lot better at moving on and making each shot its own shot and not thinking, wow, why did I do that, how did I get myself here."I've gotten so much at better at going, 'OK, now I have this shot, this is the new challenge, embrace it, and try to hit the best shot you can.'"Winning the 2023 US Open has made him more confident than when he took his first major title."I'm definitely a lot more confident and believe I can do it," Clark said. "I'd say in '23 there was still doubts. Not necessarily doubts, but I hadn't done it, so there was a lot of unknown. Now that I've done it, I know I can do it, and I can do it again."I'll definitely lean on that experience and other experiences from when I've won. Hey, I can break through and do this again."js/bb

What UNC HC Scott Forbes said after losing CWS Finals Opener
Ever since taking over for Mike Fox as UNC's head baseball coach, Scott Forbes is continuing a tradition of college baseball excellence in Chapel Hill.Forbes has North Carolina in the College World Series for a second time in three seasons. Thanks to their 3-0 start in Omaha, the Diamond Heels are playing in the CWS Finals, breaking a 19-year drought.UNC's Championship Series started off on a sour note, though, losing 9-3 to Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. North Carolina (53-13-1) scored three first-inning runs, leading many to believe the start of an offensive explosion, but bats disappeared and starting pitching struggled.Forbes made the right decision to start staff ace Jason DeCaro in Game 1. DeCaro played a major role in the Diamond Heels even playing for their first championship, going the distance in Game 2 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. The Sooners got to DeCaro early, tagging him for seven runs in just under four innings. Deiten LaChance slugged a 2-run home run in the first inning, then tied things with a third-inning solo shot. Kyle Branch broke out of his Omaha slump, giving the Sooners a 2-run lead they never relinquished with a fourth-inning single, while small ball chased DeCaro.UNC left 10 men on base, creating flashbacks to the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Jake Schaffner was the only North Carolina hitter with multiple base knocks, while Gavin Gallaher and Colin Hynek were the only two batters to drive in runs.Sure, the loss is concerning because the Diamond Heels now face elimination. Look what UNC did after its Game 1 loss to USC.Forbes will have his boys playing better baseball on Sunday. Check out what North Carolina's boss said postgame, courtesy of Rykin Fuller at TarHeel247:Opening comments“Congrats to Oklahoma, they played really well I thought in all phases. That’s why they came out on top. The great thing about baseball, when you’re playing a weekend series, is you move on quickly. That’s what our team will do. They just beat us today. I thought Jason was aggressive, I thought he had really good stuff. In their big inning, they did it all with two outs and again, they got those big hits. We weren’t able to get those big hits. Love the way our guys competed. Love the way they carried themselves but you know, I believe you give credit where credit is due. And I thought Oklahoma played a pretty complete game. And when they took the lead, they applied some more pressure. I was really proud of Chewy (Tom Chmielewski) for going in there, never pitching here and keeping us in the game, giving us a chance to come back. We could just never piece it together and make that run that we generally do. So we’ll flush that quickly, like we have been doing all year. We’ll walk up and be excited to play tomorrow.”On the bottom of UNC's batting order struggling:“It’s a hot-and-cold game. Again, I thought they (Oklahoma) threw the ball well. I thought our guys looked calm in the box. I thought they had some good at-bats. I thought Rom (Kellis) hit two balls really really hard, didn’t have much to show for it. You get to this point, too, it’s all about positivity. Our guys are competing their tails off. The great equalizer in this game is the guy on the mound. They (the Sooners) equalized us there at the bottom, got a lot of confidence in the bottom. I feel like the bottom will do a good job tomorrow.”On Rom Kellis pinch-hitting for Macon Winslow:“I just felt like he’d been struggling a little bit and wanted to get a new look in there. Rom had great BP, so popped him in there.”On game planning for a hot-hitting Oklahoma team:“A lot. You saw that today. I thought Jason was good. Now the video will tell me how good he was, as far as how bad his mistakes were. I think you just, it’s pretty plain and simple, when a team is feeling that good, you can’t make many mistakes because they’re going to make you pay for it. He had one walk, six strikeouts, we didn’t give them free passes today. We did strike them out, but they made us pay for those mistakes. They got big hits in big situations and that’s how you win games, that’s how they’re here. But I also know that our guy tomorrow, Ryan Lynch, could equalize that in a heartbeat and I feel good about putting him out there.”On Carter French's big catch in right field, UNC's second-inning collision:“I think that was a heck of a play by Carter French. I feel like that was the old Bermuda Triangle right there (with the collision). That ball just dropped, everybody’s going as hard as they can at it. I think three people caught it at the same time. I’m just thankful that everybody got up from it because it was a pretty good collision, knocked the breath out of Jake. But I asked them when they came in, it was definitely not nerves with our guys. They were getting after it. I was impressed, honestly, how they jumped on us like that and we came right back. Obviously we gave up that 4-run inning, but that was just a tough play to make. They all caught it at the same time.”On channeling motivation from previous Game 1 losses:“Yeah of course. I’ve already done that. And it’s a weekend series. I just talked to them. I said, “you gotta forget this one, just like we forget all of them.” Win or losses, that’s being process-oriented. Don’t let outcomes be distractions. I told them before, you’re playing in a weekend series and we’re trying to do what we’ve done really well and win the series. Unfortunately, we lost Game 1 and that’s a stinker, but again, you gotta win two. We were in a really tough spot against a really good Southern Cal team. We found a way. I have a confidence in these guys and we’ll go about our business the same way we’ve been doing it all year.”On UNC's bats starting hot, cooling off as game progressed:“I thought he (Oklahoma pitcher Cord Rager) started, he’s got a good arm obviously. But early on, he couldn’t land that breaker very much and he couldn’t throw his changeup for a strike. He started throwing those, especially in some big 3-2 counts. The team, a lot of times that wins those 3-2 counts, ends up winning the game offensively. And it wasn’t like it was a really electric pitch, but he did enough to get you off the fastball. I felt like that was a good adjustment by his part and him being able to land that, we had to adjust and be able to fight two pitches instead of one.”On trust, checking in with his players before Game 2:"This team has come too far. I trust them. We’ve believed in what we believed in all year. And I’m gonna tell them tonight, we did it all year. So when we get back, we’ll shower, we’ll turn in our loops, we’ll have a postgame meal. And I want them to spend time with their families. We’ll meet right before we go to bed, but I’m not gonna go in there and try to pump them up. I don’t need to do that with this team. I’ll remind them go to bed and forget about it. Either way, if you win you gotta forget about it because sometimes, it can be even harder to get that second one when you win the first one, because you know what you’re gonna get from the team that lost that first one. So we’ll just keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing all year. And I’ll trust that process and I’ll trust our players.”On attacking Oklahoma's pitchers:“You wanna try to get a pitcher uncomfortable as much as you can. And when you have to move a guy from the wind-up to the stretch, that means you’re applying pressure and you have runners on base. So obviously, that was one of our big goals to find a way. But that’s most all pitchers. We challenge our pitchers to be just as good out the stretch as you are the windup because usually, you have to make your most meaningful pitches out of the stretch. But for sure, that’s what we were trying to do, scratch and claw. We couldn’t get that leadoff hitter on a ton, again they did, so that’s when you can apply that pressure.”On Tom Chmielewski and Cam Padgett's appearances giving the remainder of UNC's pitching staff much-needed rest:“Absoultely. I mean it’s all hands on deck. Even though it’s a weekend series, we did it at Clemson. We were tied and we went for it. Obviously, we have no choice but to go for it tomorrow. Everybody’s gonna be well-rested, Lynch will get us going and we’ll go from there. He will be ready to pitch.”On the need for UNC to make big pitches and Oklahoma's 2-strike approach:“I’m gonna have to watch and I’ll do that, I’ll watch some of his (DeCaro’s) pitches and Coach (Bryant) Gaines will do the same thing. Again, I thought he (DeCaro) looked really, really good and they’re (Oklahoma) hot. He made some offspeed mistakes and they made him pay for it. You always want to do a good job of executing those 2-strike pitches. Their approaches to get a swing off, that’s clear. They’re not spreading way out, just trying to move the baseball. They’re not afraid to strike out and if you put that ball where you want to with two strikes, you have a better chance to get a strikeout and prevent that damage. This article originally appeared on Tar Heels Wire: UNC Baseball: Scott Forbes reflects on losing Game 1 of CWS Finals

Kyle Schwarber blasts 2 homers in 3rd inning, then Bryce Harper completes cycle in the 5th amid Phillies' onslaught of Mets
Perhaps Kyle Schwarber gave baseball fans a sneak peak at this year's Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park. The Philadelphia Phillies super-slugging lefty launched home runs in back-to-back at-bats on Saturday against the New York Mets — in the same inning.First he teed off a solo shot on Mets starter Freddy Peralta, taking the third pitch of the third inning, an 85-mph changeup, for a 456-foot ride, all the way over the right-center wall and into the second deck full of elated Phillies fans. Then, after Philadelphia chased Peralta later in the frame, Schwarber mashed the fourth pitch left-handed reliever Cionel Pérez tossed. The three-time All-Star, who seemingly gains more power with age, lifted a 97-mph sinker to almost the same spot he dropped off the other long ball, with the three-run shot sailing 457 feet.Schwarber's third-inning dingers danced a combined 913 feet across the Bank. They were the 33-year-old’s 26th and 27th homers on the year. And they drove in a total of four runs, half of the Phillies’ scoring output in the frame.By the end of the third, Philadelphia was up 11-0 on the NL East rival Mets.An equally tantalizing subplot started to unfold in that inning: Bryce Harper’s campaign for the cycle. Earlier, Harper opened the scoring gates on Saturday, rocketing a solo home run — his 16th long ball of the year — to right field. During the circus of the third inning, he lashed a double and a single. All that was left was the elusive triple, which he promptly secured in his next at-bat.That came in the fifth inning, when he shot a liner into the left-center gap and raced around the bases to cap the 11th cycle in Phillies history. This story is being updated.

Phantastic performances: Phillies' Shwarber homers twice in an inning, Harper hits for cycle vs Mets
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyle Schwarber launched two long home runs in the Philadelphia Phillies' eight-run third inning against the New York Mets on Saturday night and Bryce Harper became the 11th player in franchise history to hit for the cycle.Schwarber led off the Phillies' huge inning with a solo homer off Mets starter Freddy Peralta, sending the ball 456 feet into the second deck in right field.Later in the inning, Schwarber hit a three-run shot off Cionel Perez into nearly the same spot, 457 feet away for his major league-leading 27th home run of the season.Schwarber is the 67th player in major league history to hit two home runs in an inning and the second this season, joining Houston’s Yordan Alvarez, who accomplished the feat on June 12. He's the fourth Phillies player to do so, along with Trea Turner (Aug. 19, 2023), Von Hayes (June 11, 1985) and Andy Seminick (June 2, 1949).Harper finished his first career cycle by the fifth inning. He hit a solo home run in the first, his 16th of the season. He doubled and scored on an error in the third, then singled after Schwarber’s second home run.In the fifth, he lined a ball into the gap in left-center field and motored around to third base for a two-run triple. He's the first Phillies player to hit for the cycle since Weston Wilson on Aug. 15, 2024.—AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

(Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Navajo Stirling stayed undefeated with an impressive finish over Ion Cutelaba in the UFC Vegas 119 co-main event. While there were plenty of back-and-forth exchanges, Stirling eventually overwhelmed Cutelaba after trapping him against the cage where he just started unloading punches in succession. With Cutelaba just covering up and doing nothing but covering his head, Stirling unleashed a few nasty elbows that gave the referee no choice but to stop the fight with the end coming at 3:23 in the second round.A FLURRY OF PUNCHES GETS THIS ONE DONE! ✅Navajo Stirling gets back-to-back finishes in the Octagon![ #UFCVegas119 | LIVE ON @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/riDFL1eIYo— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) June 21, 2026“I told everyone that I was the next big thing,” Stirling said after his latest win. “They can come fraud check these nuts because I’m the real deal. I can scramble my ass off. I know no matter what, I’m not afraid to get taken down because I’m going to get back up. I wrestle all the time so I had to show everyone.“The division’s all over the place, I don’t care whoever it is. Maybe October next. Anyone.”An early battle against the cage led to Cutelaba snatching a standing guillotine choke and it appeared he might get the submission. Stirling stayed strong and even found a way to escape the choke after Cutelaba got him down to the ground.Back on the feet, Stirling reset and started using a lead jab to snap off some punches before throwing a knee that glanced off Cutelaba’s head. With less than a minute in the round, Stirling blasted Cutelaba with a stiff body shot that backed him up, although “The Hulk” was quick to fire back with a slick shot of his ownAs the second round got underway, Stirling was once again trying to maintain his reach advantage with Cutelaba looking to close the distance. Stirling cracked him with a powerful right hand before looking for a takedown and Cutelaba countered with a kimura attempt.Cutelaba used the submission to eventually get back to his feet but as he attempted a takedown of his own, Stirling was quick to reverse and separate to begin striking again.Another brief grappling exchange led to Stirling trapping Cutelaba against the cage and he just stood up before unloading a barrage of punches. Stirling eventually hammered him with some gruesome elbow strikes as well and Cutelaba was just absorbing punishment as the referee finally saw enough to stop the contest.Stirling is now 10-0 in his career with a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC as he continues climbing towards ranked competition in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

Arrighetti Surrenders 3 HRs in 8-1 Loss to Guardians
HOUSTON, TEXAS - JUNE 20: Spencer Arrighetti #41 of the Houston Astros pitches in the second inning during a game against the Cleveland Guardians at Daikin Park on June 20, 2026 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Houston Astros/Getty Images) | Getty Images Spencer Arrighetti’s (L, 7-3) May dominance has been followed by significant June struggles, and tonight was no exception. Arrighetti’s first pitch of the game was drilled out to right center for a solo homer by Travis Bazzana to give the Guardians a 1-0 lead. Houston tied the game in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back singles by Isaac Paredes and Jose Altuve to open the frame gave the Astros runners on 1st & 2nd with no outs. Yainer Diaz followed with an RBI single scoring Paredes, with Altuve advancing to third. Houston could do no more damage that inning, however, as Cam Smith flew to shallow left and both Jake Meyers and Brice Matthews struck out to end the inning. Missing out on that kind of opportunity to have a big inning would immediately come back to haunt the Astros. In the top of the 3rd, Kyle Manzardo hit a 2-run homer of a 91.6 MPH four-seam fastball from Arrighetti to give the Guardians a 3-1 lead. In the top of the 5th, Bazzana would get Arrighetti again. This time, Bazzana hit a 3-run homer to right center to give Cleveland a 6-1 lead. Arrighetti would pitch a 1-2-3 6th inning, and his final line would be 6 IP, 6 ER, 6H, 0BB, 8K, 3HR.In the 7th, the Guardians would add 2 more runs on 4 straight singles off Astros reliever Nate Pearson.Meanwhile, Guardians starter Joey Cantillo (W, 6-3), would retire 20 of the next 22 Astros batters following Diaz’ RBI single in the 2nd. He tossed 8 innings of 1 run ball while allowing 4 hits, one walk and striking out 9.With the loss, the Astros fall to 36-42, and the Guardians improve to 41-36Astros SP Kai-Wei Teng (3-6, 4.32 ERA) will oppose the Guardians’ Slade Cecconi (3-5, 4.60 ERA) in the rubber match tomorrow afternoon at 1:10PM CT.

UFC Vegas 119 Highlights! Magomedov Debuts With Insane Twister Submission
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JUNE 20: Murtazali Magomedov of Kyrgyzstan secures a submission against Melsik Baghdasaryan of Armenia in a featherweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Meta APEX on June 20, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Murtazali Magomedov scored an incredible Octagon debut earlier tonight (Sat., June 20, 2026) at UFC Vegas 119 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside UFC Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the undefeated featherweight finisher ended Melsik Baghdasaryan with a modified twister early in the first round.Magomedov, 26, came into Saturday’s debut as a sizeable betting favorite and for good reason. Due to his undefeated record, 100% finish rate, and knockout finish on Dana White’s Contender Series last September, Magomedov was expected to deliver the goods. That said, nobody thought “The Highlight” would turn in one of the rarest stoppages in mixed martial arts (MMA).Baghdasaryan landed a nice kick in the early moments of the first round and it prompted Magomedov to quickly change levels. Magomedov went to work right away and secured a tight body triangle. From there, he was able to twist Baghdasaryan’s mid section until he was forced to tap in agony. It was a great debut for Magomedov and something that should keep fans excited for his next UFC appearance.Check out the video highlights below:WHAT JUST HAPPENED 😳Murtazali Magomedov gets the QUICK tap in R1 in his UFC debut![ #UFCVegas119 | LIVE ON @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/LpVXynVlt4— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) June 21, 2026For more UFC Vegas 119 results, coverage, and highlights click HERE.
