Joshua v Fury location still to be decided - Warren
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are former heavyweight champions [Getty Images]Frank Warren says a meeting will soon take place to confirm the details of Tyson Fury's long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua amid speculation the bout will happen in the US.A heavyweight showdown is targeted between the Britons for the end of November following years of failed negotiations between the former heavyweight champions.Fury, 37, is signed to Warren's Queensberry Promotions but last week teased a "massive announcement" from Zuffa Boxing president Dana White, before revealing he will be promoted by Saudi Arabian powerhouse Turki Alalshikh.Warren says Queensberry will continue to promote Fury alongside Alalshikh, and although he wants the Fury and Joshua fight to take place in the UK, he opened the door to the US."I'd love it to take place in the UK. But as I've tried to explain to everybody, until that meeting [with all the parties] takes place I don't think anything is going to be determined where it takes place [or] the date it takes place," said Warren."But whatever happens the fight is signed and it will happen. Because everyone wants it to happen."Fury said White, whose Zuffa Boxing is backed by Saudi Arabian funding and was set up to rival the sport's established promoters, would also potentially promote the Joshua fight.Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn has repeatedly denied Zuffa Boxing would be involved in the fight and suggested his fighter's contract states the Fury bout has to happen in the UK.But reports continue to swirl that Las Vegas is now the frontrunner to host the all-British fight.UFC's White unfilteredGarner's St Mary's dream comes true with dominant winItauma faces biggest test yet against Hrgovic in AugustFury's UFC appearance promoted speculation of how much Warren would be involved in the promotion of the Joshua fight."My understanding is what his management said, and that is he is being promoted by Turki and by us. That's how it is. I am very comfortable with that," said Warren."That is the position. All that is happening on the moment, is our team is working having an interim fight before he fights AJ in late November."He added: "Of course I'll be a part of it. I am with him."Fury marked his return from retirement with a win over Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, and said he has another "potential fight in August" before the Joshua bout can take place.Joshua, 36, also must win before a potential bout with Fury, with the 36-year-old facing Kristian Prenga on 25 July in Saudi Arabia.Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua has invited Fury to be ringside for the Prenga fight, as he was when his rival beat Makhmudov.Boxing schedule and results 2026Watch every Born to Brawl episode More boxing from the BBC Notifications, social media and more with BBC Sport

Gourley would 'crawl' track to star in home Games
Neil Gourley has missed out on recent events in his native city [PA Media]Neil Gourley is a man on a mission. The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow looms large this summer and the 31-year-old Scot is determined to cast off months of injury frustration with a starrring role."I will be there if I have to crawl round the four laps of the track," he told BBC Scotland.Gourley, who has world and European indoor 1500m silver medals to his name, has already been selected for the mile event in his home city after an "injury-plagued winter that was dominated by two different injuries"."I am doing a lot better now than I was a few months ago," Gourley added. His winter began on the sidelines, dealing with a patella tendon tear that had been troubling him last season. After returning in February, a broken foot the following month consigned him to further weeks on the sidelines.Hardly ideal preparation for his bid to be a home hero. However, he explained: "I am starting to really see some consistency now and thanks to the cross training I was doing, I don't seem to be too far away from fitness."The challenge is to turn that all around into fitness in time for the Commonwealth Games among other things this summer."I will never shy away from the fact I want to be at the top end of championships and I would love to win a medal in Glasgow, but it is going to be incredibly challenging."I have made it harder for myself by having some of the setbacks I did this year. But if every day goes to plan between now and then I think I will be really competitive in that final."Wightman hopes Scotland can showcase 'ridiculous' talent'Kerr & Wightman achievements deserve more credit''It is going to have to be third time lucky'Gourley would be forgiven for thinking his Glasgow jinx was striking again. Having reached the 1500m final at the 2019 European Indoor Championships in the city, he missed the race through illness.Five years later, there was more woe as he was forced to sit out the World Indoor Championships through injury."It is going to have to be third time lucky this one," he said. "I am full intending to be there at that championship 100% healthy."The prospect of Gourley going head to head on the track with fellow Scottish stars Josh Kerr and Jake Wightman is one of the Commonwealth Games' most eagerly anticipated events. And though Gourley does not have time on his side to get into top condition, he says there were "positive signs" from a recent "rust buster" 1500m race in Marseilles."There is still plenty to do in the next six weeks but I am not maybe as far away as I thought," he said."Nothing really compares to the importance I am putting on Glasgow this year."Some of the disappointments I have had in not being able to represent in my own city is a huge part of that as well and I am trying not to force that because you can want it too much."You can do too much in training and rush things because you feel like you are behind other people, so I am trying not to get too impatient in the training."It is absolutely the most important thing that is happening this year and I am excited about competing in front of a lot more family and friends than I am used to and competing in Glasgow."

Sean Payton expects ‘some quirks’ as Broncos move into new facility
The Denver Broncos will undergo their biggest change of the Walton-Penner ownership group tenure when as the team moves into the new Broncos Park facility, right across the practice field from their old administrative building. Denver coach Sean Payton acknowledged the move in his remarks after Wednesday's minicamp practice, citing the move as a partial reason for canceling Thursday's practice. "It’s unusual because there’s a lot of packing, a little bit more than normal when you’re moving into another facility," said Payton. "So when we’re back here, we’ll be in the new building.”Payton also said this move will be an adjustment for everyone involved. "There’s always just the simple logistics,” Payton said. "I like the idea of always coming back to something new. So pretend it wasn’t that facility. We’d have new signage... So here, we’ve been slow to even talk about putting things up in the hallways because you don’t know which ones are getting the traffic. So for all of us, I think there will be... some quirks." Payton has previously spoken on the new technology the new building will be equipped with, and one of the biggest advantages he spoke about was the size of the locker room as one of the 'quirks' to get used to. "The very No. 1 reason would be just the locker room size as the rosters have expanded, and you see this locker room," said Payton. "Those areas are much different."Hopefully, we will all soon get to see what is inside the Broncos' brand-new, state-of-the-art facility. We will continue to have all the updates on the developments here on Broncos Wire. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Sunday Cannon Fodder: World Cup Day 11
HOUSTON, UNITED STATES - JUNE 20: Brian Brobbey of Holland celebrates 1-0 during the World Cup match between Holland v Sweden at the Houston Stadium on June 20, 2026 in Houston United States (Photo by Roy Lazet/Soccrates/Getty Images) | Getty Images Good morning, TSFers! Is anybody World Cup-ed out yet? Too bad! The matches will continue until morale improves. We’ve reached the halfway point of the Group Stage. Yesterday, only Germany booked a place in the knockouts, although the Netherlands and Japan should feel pretty comfortable with their four points apiece. Today’s games are all between teams that drew their opening matches. Groups G and H are open for the taking. You’d expect Spain to bounce back. Probably Belgium too, although their side seemed unbalanced, and they’re playing Iran, who looked frisky. Uruguay should take care of business against Cape Verde unless goalkeeper Vozinha plays another blinder. New Zealand-Egypt should be an interesting, even matchup.Today’s action, points in parenthesis:Spain (1) vs. Saudi Arabia (1), 12 pm ET, FOXBelgium (1) vs. Iran (1), 3 pm ET, FS1Uruguay (1) vs. Cape Verde (1), 6 pm ET, FS1New Zealand (1) vs. Egypt(1), 9 pm ET, FS1Netherlands 5 – Sweden 1The Dutch swapped natural striker Brian Brobbey up top for Donyell Malen, who started their first game, and the result was immediate and fantastic. The attack, which was stagnant against Japan, sprung to life in the opening minutes, with Brobbey scoring in the 5th and 17th minute. It was 4-0 before Sweden pulled one back.Germany 2 – Cote d’Ivoire 1Breakout star Yan Diomande set up a Franck Kessie goal in the 30th minute to open the scoring. The 19-year old winger is something else. German substitute Deniz Undav scored in the 68th minute to level the scoreline and tallied a 94th minute winner to book Germany’s place in the knockouts.Ecuador 0 – Curacao 0Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room had the match of his life en route to earning the island nation their first point at the World Cup. Ecuador peppered his goal but with some help from his posts, he kept them out. Ecuador have played decently well in both matches but they can’t seem to find the back of the net. They need to beat Germany to advance. Fortunately, the Germans have already clinched the group, so Ecuador might get less than their best.Japan 4 – Tunisia 0It turns out the manager may not have been the problem for Tunisia, who followed up their 5-1 loss with a 4-0 defeat against Japan. Their 9 goals against are the most by any country at the tournament so far. Daichi Kamada kept up the MD2 early goal trend, putting Japan ahead 1-0 in the 4th minute. They added goals in the 31st, 69th, and 83rd.

84 days until Saints opener: Every player to wear the No. 84 jersey
Our countdown to the New Orleans Saints regular season opener has reached 84 days. On Sunday, Sept. 13, the Saints will kick off their year with a road game against the Detroit Lions. Wearing No. 84 as the team heads to training camp is Zaire Mitchell-Paden, a second year tight end.Mitchell-Paden is attempting to make the active roster at a suddenly crowded position. He's also the 20th player to wear the number 84 in New Orleans. Our countdown to kickoff series continues with a look at each of the players who wore the jersey.Saints History of No. 84TE Jimmy Hester (1967-69)DE Larry Estes (1970-71)WR Preston Riley (1973)TE John Beasley (1974)TE Paul Seal (1974-76)WR Rich Mauti (1977-83)TE Junior Miller (1984)WR Eric Martin (1985-93)WR Steve Rhem (1994-95)WR Eric Guliford (1997-98)TE Scott Slutzker (1999)TE Austin Wheatley (2000)WR Michael Lewis (2001-06)TE Tory Humphrey (2009-10)WR Kenny Stills (2013-14)TE Michael Hoomanawanui (2015-17)WR Lil'Jordan Humphrey (2019-21)TE J.P. Holtz (2023)WR Mason Tipton (2024)TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden (2025-current)Jimmy Hester wore 84 first for the Saints, suiting up for 29 games over the franchise's first three years of existence. As a selection in Round 14 of the 1967 draft, he was also the first New Orleans draft choice to wear an 84 uniform. Hester caught 22 passes for 354 yards and 3 scores during his Saints career. Larry Estes, an eighth-round pick in the 1970 NFL Draft, is the only defensive player to wear an 84 jersey. Estes played two seasons and 22 games for the team. John Beasley wore 85 in 1973, his first year as a Saint, then 84 briefly in 1974 before a switch back to the 85 jersey.Paul Seal came to the Saints in the second round of the 1974 NFL Draft. The 36th overall choice, he is the highest New Orleans draft pick to wear 84. Seal was with the team for 42 games over three seasons. In that time, he had 69 receptions for 952 yards and 4 touchdownsRich Mauti arrived in New Orleans as an undrafted rookie in 1977. Mauti played six years with the team, suiting up in 79 games for the second-longest stint of any Saint to wear an 84 jersey. He was an accomplished kick returner and also caught 21 passes for 314 yards with 2 scores. A little over three decades later, Rich's son Michael Mauti was a linebacker for two seasons with the Saints. Former Falcons star Junior Miller joined the Saints for the final season of his five-year career, catching 8 passes for 81 yards and a score in 15 games.Former LSU star Eric Martin was drafted in the seventh round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Saints. Martin was with New Orleans for all but one of his 10 NFL seasons, with his 143 games the most of any Saint to wear the 84 uniform. Martin would go on to be one of the most accomplished pass catchers in franchise history. He had 532 receptions for 7,854 yards and 48 touchdowns, all career team-high marks for several years after he retired. Martin had three 1,000-yard campaigns, the first to accomplish that in team history, and led the offense in catches and yards for nearly every season during his career. In 1999, Martin became just the second wide receiver to be inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame.Eric Guliford had a nice two-year run as a punt returner and backup wide receiver following two years of Steve Rhem wearing the 84 jersey. Tight ends Scott Slutzker and Austin Wheatley had similar stints into the turn of the century. Then, an unlikely star made his own legacy in the number 84 for the Saints.Michael Lewis had one of the most improbable careers in the history of the NFL. A star at Grace King High School in Louisiana, Lewis had stints with a few semi-pro and indoor teams before getting a shot with his hometown Saints. To say the least, he made the most of his opportunity. Lewis grabbed an unlikely roster spot in 2001, then took the league by storm in 2002. That season, he averaged an eye-popping 14.2 per punt return with 1 touchdown, took 2 kickoffs back for scores, and led the NFL in all-purpose yards, punt return yards, and kickoff return yards. His 2,432 combined return yards set an NFL record, earning him first team All-Pro recognition.Lewis continued to be one of the NFL's most feared returners through 2005. For his career, he also had 28 receptions for 558 yards and a touchdown. Lewis holds the Saints career marks for punt and kickoff return yards, surpassing Tyrone Hughes, another Saints great. His 4 return scores are second to Hughes in franchise history. The 63 games Lewis played are the second most of any New Orleans player to wear 84. In 2015, he took his spot in the Saints Hall of Fame.Tory Humphrey had a two-year stint in the No. 84 before the Saints added wide receiver Kenny Stills with a fifth-round choice in the 2013 NFL Draft. Stills was an explosive element in the offense, catching 95 passes for 1,572 yards and 8 touchdowns in two years and 31 games. Stills was traded away to the Miami Dolphins during the 2015 offseason. He returned to the Saints in 2021 for the final season of his career, but wore No. 12 for 13 games with little production.Michael Hoomanawanui wasn't much of a receiving threat for two years as a Saint, but was a valued blocker. Lil'Jordan Humphrey provided decent receiving depth during his three seasons. J.P. Holtz, Mason Tipton, and Zaire Mitchell-Paden each had little production with their turns in an 84 uniform. Tipton wore 15 in 2025 and will come into 2026 with the same number as he tries to make the squad. Mitchell-Paden is still in 84, trying to grab a job in what looks like a loaded tight end spot. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Every Saints player to wear No. 84, from Eric Martin to Kenny Stills

    🔙 1994 to 2026: Argentina return to Diego's cursed city 🇦🇷
🔙 1994 to 2026: Argentina return to Diego's cursed city 🇦🇷Argentina returns to Dallas this Monday to face Austria.Although the match will be played at the modern Cowboys Stadium, the Albiceleste’s return to Texas soil inevitably revives the ghosts of the 1994 World Cup, one of the most painful chapters in South American football history. It was at the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas that Diego Armando Maradona played his final match for the national team. That June afternoon, after the win over Nigeria, a nurse dressed in white stepped onto the pitch to lead the No. 10 away by the hand for a doping test, leaving behind an iconic and tragic image.Days later, the positive test for ephedrine was confirmed, news that, in Diego’s own words, "they cut off my legs". That medical intervention right there on the field marked the beginning of the end for a generation that had dreamed of eternal glory in the United States.Open wounds that must healToday, the reigning champion returns to the city where the myth was shattered. Although the setting and the protagonists are completely different, the memory of Maradona’s final performance still lingers in the Texas air like an old curse waiting to be lifted. The clash with Austria is not just another sporting fixture. For Argentina’s demanding fans, setting foot in Dallas again means closing a wound that has remained open for more than three decades, turning the old ghosts of the past into a new opportunity for triumph. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Moyes, tempering expectations, and the Everton elephants in the room
Moyes, tempering expectations, and the Everton elephants in the room(Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)The summer is supposed to be a time of optimism. Memories of last season’s shortcomings are getting further in the rear-view mirror, while transfer talk, despite being in large parts fabrication, does provide a bubble of excitement.Everton are yet to act this summer, andcomments from David Moyes this week have done little to offer encouragement. If the extent of the Everton manager’s ambition is to match Brentford and Bournemouth, the club has the wrong man in charge. That’s not to disrespect either of those clubs. Each have maximised their resources, bought well, turned profits, and impressed while doing so.Bournemouth will play European football next season, something Everton haven’t done for almost a decade. If Moyes meant to follow those basic principles, few would grumble. But it’s impossible to avoid the feeling that this, instead, was a tempering of expectations. For so long, Everton have plodded along contentedly with underdog status.‘Happily dissatisfied’ after a crumbled challenge for European football is a world away from ‘nothing but the best is good enough’.Moyes has contributed to a culture where pride is taken from participation and near misses. His comments this week did not feel like a message to the owners. Some, eternal optimists and Moyes supporters, have suggested the Scot purposely stoked the furore of supporters in a bid to push The Friedkins into action.I, for one, am not buying that.Whether it’s been trickled down from the top or instead from the man himself, it feels like a deliberate ploy to water down transfer disappointment ahead of time. It’s another mixed message. Everton have gone from projecting plans for ‘world-class players for a world-class stadium’, to naming ‘Moneyball’ recruitment models as the plan. The latter completely ignores the fact that, as things stand, neither club nor manager are suited to that model. Only four teams have won more top-flight titles than the Toffees, and one of those was propelled to such status by state-funded backing. This is not a fanbase that would be content with a steady stream of top talents heading for the exit door each summer, and neither should it be.Moyes, meanwhile, has faced regular criticism for his treatment of young talent. It's an unmissable elephant in the room.Remember Adam Aznou? The exciting Moroccan teenager who spent the season ‘developing’ on the sidelines. What about Tyler Dibling? Talked up as one of England’s most gifted talents, but the proud owner of just four league starts.Where is the evidence that would persuade up-and-coming talent that Everton is an ideal environment to progress?Moyes may feel he is simply being a realist, though that is somewhat ignorant to a fanbase that understands the club's circumstances. No one is more aware than the supporters of a three-decade trophy drought or the financial challenges to end it. Few are demanding success right now. But, at the very least, can there be some signs of ambition? Preempting excuses solidifies a culture of mediocrity that desperately needs a reset.Reader CommentsThere are no responses so far to this article. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scores fastest List A fifty, but 324.14 strike rate still isn't his best
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again showcased why he is regarded as one of India's brightest young talents, producing a breathtaking 94 off just 29 balls against Sri Lanka A in the Tri-Nation Series final. The 15-year-old struck at an incredible rate of 324.14, hammering 10 fours and 8 sixes before falling 6-run short of a century. While this innings ranks among the most destructive ever played for India A in the 50-over format, it was not the fastest-scoring knock of his young career. The 15-year-old opener unleashed a breathtaking assault on the Sri Lankan bowlers after Sri Lanka A elected to field first, racing to his half-century in just 11 deliveries, conjuring up a stunning sequence of 4, 4, 4, 6, 6, 0, 6, 4, 4, 6, 6 off his first 11 deliveries. In doing so, Sooryavanshi shattered the previous world record of a 12-ball fifty, set by Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005.But this was only his second-best innings in terms of strike rate. The best came in November 2025 when, at just 14 years and 232 days old, the left-handed opener rewrote the record books with a remarkable 144 off 42 balls against the UAE in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. In that T20 match, he smashed 11 fours and 15 sixes, scoring at a staggering strike rate of 342.86. He reached his century in just 32 balls, making it the joint third-fastest T20 century by an Indian batter with Rishabh Pant who smashes a 32 ball hundred for Delhi in SMAT . Sooryavanshi powered India A to a monumental 297/4 in their 20 overs and played a key role in steering the side to an emphatic 148-run victory. Although Vaibhav Sooyavanshi's highest run for Team India came in U19-Final match against England in 2026. Vaibhav dismantled England's bowling attack with 15 fours and 15 sixes and scored 175 runs off just 80 balls at a strike rate of 218.75 and powering India to a record 411/9 in the final.

Stokes and McCullum have led England's Test side since 2022 [Getty Images]England head coach Brendon McCullum says he can work with Ben Stokes when the captain returns for the third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.Stokes and pace bowler Gus Atkinson were made unavailable for the huge second-Test defeat pending an investigation into an incident in a London nightclub.Following a 4-1 Ashes series defeat that was dogged by off-field problems, both Stokes and McCullum denied their relationship had deteriorated in Australia. Then, following England's win in the first Test since the Ashes - against New Zealand at Lord's - Stokes broke the team's midnight curfew in celebrating the victory. The results of the investigation are still to be confirmed, but McCullum told BBC Test Match Special he is expecting Stokes and Atkinson to be available in Nottingham, with Stokes resuming the captaincy. On his relationship with the captain, McCullum said: "You're just trying to make sure you're very communicative right throughout."We all got the same ambition, which is to make English cricket a very good team and to try to achieve results on the field, and that hasn't changed."McCullum said he has spoken to Stokes "every day" since the nightclub incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, 8 June. The New Zealander also confirmed England director of cricket Rob Key has visited Stokes this week.Chaotic England fortnight ends with huge defeatStokes and Atkinson withdrawn from county gamesGet cricket news sent straight to your phone

Luka Doncic Reveals Details on LeBron Relationship, Offseason Plans
Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic was in his home country of Slovenia when he got interviewed by local media about his offseason plans and intentions. Doncic was attending a Jordan Brand-related basketball tournament in Slovenia, where the news site 24ur.com asked him a handful of questions. As the superstar deals with recovery from his hamstring injury and personal matters related to his children, there is plenty on the plate of Doncic this offseason. This does not even include all of the moving parts involving the Lakers, who will likely have a revamped roster next year with new faces. Instead, he will be focus on other athletic pursuits for his basketball career and new hobby. “I mean, we know I won’t be with national team. So basically individual practices, fitness, other sports. This year also golf, so it’s a bit different,” Doncic said.Luka Doncic reveals his golfing relationship with LeBronMay 5, 2026; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (77) yells to his team during a play against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first half during game one of the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs at Paycom Center. His teammate, LeBron James, has been at the forefront of the movement, posting multiple videos related to his golf practice.“We played once or twice. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal says Pirates could deal a competitive Balance pick ahead of MLB Draft
Aug 4, 2024; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Pittsburgh Pirates general manager Ben Cherington looks on before the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at PNC Park. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images The 2026 MLB Draft is right around the corner on July 11-12, and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal believes the Bucs could be willing to trade a competitive balance pick ahead of the draft.Teams that acquire them would gain not only an additional selection in the upcoming amateur draft, but also extra bonus pool money.Competitive balance picks are the only ones that can be traded in the draft. Pittsburgh owns one of them which is the 34th overall pick. According to Rosenthal rival clubs believe the Pirates are open to trading it.In the past two seasons a team has traded a competitive-balance pick for a reliever, establishing precedents for the kind of deal the Pirates could end up making. The Washington Nationals did it in 2024, trading away third baseman Cayden Wallace and the 39th overall pick for right hander Hunter Harvey. While last year the Tampa Bay Rays traded the 37th overall pick to the Baltimore Orioles for right hander Bryan Baker. The team also is willing to trade prospects. And it is not limiting their search for potential upgrades to bullpen help, though that is the club’s biggest area of need. You can expect Pittsburgh to be aggressive during the draft and the Trade deadline which is August 3 because of how close they are in the playoff race. The Buccos already made a move Thursday night by trading away catcher Joey Bart for right handed pitcher Hunter Stratton from the Atlanta Braves. Bart was a nice piece for the team but there is a higher need right now for relief pitching and you would assume that will not be the last move made by the Bucs. I think this could be a beneficial move for Pittsburgh who needs to think about the second half of the season. If trading away a competitive balance pick means you can get a relief pitcher who can make an immediate impact, then Pittsburgh should definitely consider it.

NY Giants’ new offensive line coach aims to ‘build their toolbox’
Mike Bloomgren | Getty Images No. 10 overall pick Francis ‘Sisi’ Mauigoa will be the starting right guard for the New York Giants. A 23-year-old rookie starting at that spot is a big change for a Giants’ team that had Greg Van Roten, whose pro career began in 2012, at right guard for the past two seasons. That, though, is not the only big change for the Giants on the offensive line.Mike Bloomgren is the team’s new offensive line coach, replacing the popular Carmen Bricillo, who did well in that role over the past two seasons. The Giants’ offensive line was 15th in the NFL last season using the Pro Football and Sports Network Impact Score as a measuring stick, its best standing since beign 16th in 2019.“I have a lot of respect for Carm,” Bloomgren said recently. “I think he did a great job with the room. So it’s great that they have such a good baseline of knowledge and an understanding of this great game.”This will mark only Bloomgren’s second season as an NFL offensive line coach after he held that job with the Cleveland Browns a year ago. Bloomgren, though, is an accomplished, veteran coach. His coaching resume:2025: Cleveland Browns – Offensive line2018-24: Rice University – Head Coach2014-17: Stanford University – Offensive Coordinator/Associate Head Coach2013: Stanford University – Associate Head Coach2011-12: Stanford University – Offensive Line2010: New York Jets – Assistant Offensive Coordinator2009: New York Jets – Offensive Assistant2007-08: New York Jets – Offensive Quality Control Coach2005-06: Delta State – Offensive Coordinator2002-04: Catawba College – Co-Offensive Coordinator1999-2001: University of Alabama – Graduate AssistantHow has Bloomgren approached trying to help a mostly veteran offensive line group?“I think we’re always trying to build their toolbox,” Bloomgren said. “We spent the first part of our time here in February and March in addition to preparing for the draft and free agency, we were really trying to evaluate these guys and what they did exceptionally well and what we thought maybe a tool here or a tool there could help them with.“When you put in any new system, which we did, and we’re slightly different in some ways and very different in others. But the techniques change. The names change. And so a lot of it has been really trying to build the foundational knowledge so this room can go out and play football fast.”Jermaine Eluemunor’s adjustmentNo Giants’ offensive lineman feels Bricillo’s absence more than Eluemunor. This marks the first time since 2018 that Eluemunor is not on a team where Bricillo is an assistant.“It’s definitely been different,” Eluemunor said. “I think Bloom and Carm are two great O-line coaches. Obviously, Carm helped me to get where I am right now. Bloom’s thing is you’ve been here and you’ve gotten here but how can you take that next step. It’s been really cool just picking Bloom’s brain, being out here just seeing little things I can get better at.“Bloom and (assistant offensive line coach) Grant (Newsome) are helping me with the little technique things that will make a big difference come Sundays.”Bloomgren is hoping to give Eluemunor “a couple tools”, and not reinvent the wheel.“When we’re talking about schematics, when we’re talking about techniques, this guy protected the passer really well last year,” Bloomgren said. “Really proud of what Jermaine did. Really glad we have him back in the building.“And so, again, there’s not a whole lot there. There’s a couple tools you could add, a couple things, hey, think about this. But for the most part, like in pass protection, you’re really going to say, like, block your man.“And we’re going to give him tools to do so.”Changing run schemesIt wasn’t a secret that the Giants were a better pass-blocking that run-blocking team in 2025. The Giants, of cours, are now a John Harbaugh coached football team. One thing that follows is a renewed emphasis on running the football, and inevitable changes in how Giants’ offensive linemen will be asked to execute those blocks.“I look at the potential there and the ability, and really you look at what they did in the past to get a baseline and to understand what you can try to improve,” Bloomgren said. “This system is going to be so much different than what they’ve done in the past from a run game standpoint.“I couldn’t be happier with how the group has attacked this offseason … even though we’re not in pads and it’s football-like, not football, you’re still seeing great growth out of these guys.”Early thoughts on MauigoaBloomgren had a glowing early assessment of the prized rookie.“Completely in love with football. And I think not just playing football, but the ability to prepare the right way and the desire to prepare the right way,” Bloomgren said. “I think he comes in with a great baseline of knowledge. I think you look back at him being coached by Alex Mirabal (at Miami) and nobody in college football is teaching it better and getting a better product out there than Alex. And so that’s really nice.“You’re able to see the college film, see how it will translate to our system, and it just made Sisi a real good easy proposition if we could get him.”

England, resuming the final day in pursuit of an improbable target, lost their last five wickets in just 48 minutes to hand the Black Caps a deserved win. What a delivery that is from Matt Henry! His first-ever 10-wicket haul in Test match cricket 🙌 pic.twitter.com/UVOkzbQi3E— Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) June 21, 2026The visitors had controlled the contest from the second day onwards. Glenn Phillips' maiden Test century anchored New Zealand's first-innings total of 391 before Henry Nicholls' 121 in the second innings extended the lead beyond England's reach. England were bowled out for 291 in their first innings and offered only Joe Root's resistance in the second.Henry was the difference across both innings. The seamer, troubled by back spasms during New Zealand's defeat at Lord's a fortnight earlier, returned to full fitness and finished with 5/80 in the first innings and another five-wicket haul with figures of 6/29 in the second, his first ten-wicket match return in Test cricket.MORE:Will Ben Stokes play in England vs New Zealand 3rd Test?Henry's match-defining ten-wicket haulHenry's performance carried weight beyond the raw numbers. He claimed the prized wickets of Root and Brook in both innings, dismantling England's most important batting pair each time they threatened to build a stand. Root, who became the second man to reach 14,000 Test runs during the match, found precious little support around him.The milestone also reframed the series opener. New Zealand won at Lord's without a fully fit Henry, and his commanding display at The Oval prompted reflection on how different that first Test might have been had his back allowed him a full part in the contest. Henry also became the first bowler since the legendary Shane Warne to take 10 wickets at the iconic Oval.Matt Henry becomes the first bowler since Shane Warne in the 2005 Ashes to take a ten-wicket match haul at The Oval, and the first seamer since Devon Malcolm in 1994 🌟 pic.twitter.com/pvh476TJA9— ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) June 21, 2026Warne was the last bowler with such a dominant display back in 2005. Since then, nobody had taken 10 wickets, with the closest person being English bowler Josh Tongue at last year's five Test series against India. The cricket world reacts to a legendary displayThe reaction across social media was immediate and effusive. "Matt Henry gets another 5-fer and 10 wickets in the match!!! What a legendary performance!!" tweeted CSA correspondent The Popping Crease. It was clear just how dominant Henry's performance was and calling it legendary was totally apt.Matt Henry gets another 5-fer and 10 wickets in the match!!!What a legendary performance!! #ENGvNZpic.twitter.com/ZsDeVx0oQZ— ThePoppingCrease (@PoppingCreaseSA) June 21, 2026Meanwhile, journalist Will Macpherson wrote, "New Zealand won the second Test by 253 runs. Heroic stuff from Matt Henry, who finishes with 11 wickets." He continued, "Sets up a box office decider at Trent Bridge from Thursday. A sorry showing from England, who were completely outplayed and lost their last 5 wickets in 48 minutes today."New Zealand win the second Test by 253 runs. Root looked dangerous as he reached 75 before Henry scalped his wicket, thus crumbling England's innings.Matt Henry has ten wickets for the match - the first time in his Test career - and he’s taken by far the most important 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 wickets of Root & Brook in both innings.Boy how different the first Test might have been if he’d played a full part at Lord’s.— Michael Appleton (@michelappleton) June 21, 2026He wrote, "Matt Henry has ten wickets for the match—the first time in his Test career—and he’s taken by far the most important wickets of Root & Brook in both innings. Boy, how different the first Test might have been if he’d played a full part at Lord’s."What's next: England face a Trent Bridge deciderThe defeat leaves England's new-look side, still missing the suspended Ben Stokes, with much to address before Trent Bridge on Thursday. Root's unbeaten 75 in the second innings was a lone hand, and England was second best for four consecutive days after an even opening day at The Oval.Jamie Smith is expected to return from paternity leave in Nottingham to keep wicket, with debutant James Rew under pressure after a difficult match behind the stumps. The series now hinges on a single Test, a far cry from the position England held after their Lord's win.For all the latest cricket news, opinion, and commentary and to share your voice, head to our Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) pages.

Report – Napoli Intensifying Pursuit of Genoa Rising Star
Report – Napoli Intensifying Pursuit of Genoa Rising StarSerie A runners-up Napoli have reportedly developed a genuine interest in Genoa wingback Brooke Norton-Cuffy. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Englishman could be one of Napoli’s first signings under new manager Massimiliano Allegri.Allegri is on the verge of taking over from Antonio Conte, who left Naples at the end of the season. Indeed, the Italian veteran’s arrival is just a mere formality, as the parties found an agreement earlier this week. Meanwhile, Napoli are already scouring the market for reinforcements after failing to defend the Scudetto.Long-serving captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo remains a faithful servant, but the Partenopei are looking to upgrade their options on the wing. As such, they’ve identified Norton-Cuffy as a concrete target despite Inter’s interest in the Arsenal academy graduate.Cristian Chivu’s men have been keen on the 22-year-old since January, but Napoli are now poised to hijack the transfer. Our take on Napoli & Norton-CuffyNorton-Cuffy’s contract at Luigi Ferraris runs until 2029, which puts Genoa in a strong bargaining position heading into the summer transfer window. Aware of the growing interest in their rising star, the Griffins are likely to demand north of €25 million for the transfer.Given the player’s potential, Napoli would be wise to shell out that figure. With Di Lorenzo entering the autumn of his career, now is the perfect time for the Partenopei to strengthen the right wing. Furthermore, Allegri’s trademark 3-5-2 formation would perfectly suit Norton-Cuffy.As if that’s not incentivizing enough, Napoli would put a dent in Inter’s transfer plans. Therefore, their pursuit of the English starlet makes perfect sense.

Penn State basketball adds intriguing guard transfer
While Penn State basketball has been very busy in its dealings in the transfer portal, they ended up making an important decision to help bolster the depth of the squad. Having made 10 different additions this offseason, the 11th could prove to be integral. Dasonte Bowen, a point guard from St. Bonaventure, may not be an immediate starter but he adds much needed depth and experience to the roster.Last year, Bowen was able to start in all of the games St. Bonaventure played in and averaged 10.9 points with a career high 4.8 assists per game to boot. More importantly, Bowen will be a fifth year senior coming into Happy Valley, so he can instantly slot into a position group with a lot of youth. While another transfer in Jay Rodgers will be expected to be the starter, Bowen can instantly slot into a backup role that was previously expected to be Frenchman Francois Wibaut's to lose. Another thing in Bowen's favor is that he has played in the Big Ten before. Before his time with the Bonnies, he gained vital experience with the Iowa Hawkeyes, getting just over 11 minutes per game. Right now, he would be the only player in head coach Mike Rhoades' rotation who can say they have gained Big Ten experience. While Bowen may just be an additional piece to an already loaded transfer-laden roster, his experience could prove vital for a team that could struggle to find his footing early on. Dak Prescott on Cowboys’ $27M wildcard: ‘That guy’s ready’
In an era where each offseason conjures up a variety of roster changes, distractions and negotiations, sometimes “ready” is all that one can ask for when looking towards training camp. In the case of standout receiver George Pickens, "ready" is music to the Dallas Cowboys’ ears. After franchise tagging Pickens in February, the Cowboys didn’t quite know what to expect from their sudden standout. 2025 was a breakout year for Pickens, moving the 25-year-old into top-of-the-market territory in contract negotiations. To make matters worse, Pickens shares an agent named David Mulugheta with last year’s high-profile malcontent, Micah Parsons.Speaking of Parsons, he offers a fantastic example of what can go wrong in matters such as this. After failing to secure a long-term extension last year, Parsons very publicly aired his frustrations in a dramatic “hold in”. Things got sa bad last summer, Parsons eventually was traded, making the entire situation a perfect disaster.Unlike Parsons, Pickens has played his situation positively. Instead of leaving the tag unsigned and withholding his services from practices, Pickens signed and reported to work for the mandatory portion of offseason activities. Not only that but he came in with good attitude and a commitment to work. As reported by Jon Machota during the final day minicamp, Dak Prescott seems impressed by all things Pickens right now.Dak Prescott on George Pickens being at minicamp: “It’s great. You feel his energy. You feel his presence. It’s in the locker room. Obviously it’s out there on the football field. Everything felt good. He looks great. He’s just different. He understands his leverage. He understands his routes. He understands where I’m looking for him at the catch point, the depth…we can go throw a lot of touchdowns right now. That guy’s ready.”A focused and driven Pickens should strike fear in the hearts of opponents. Pickens’ presence took the Cowboys offense to new heights in 2025. It stands to reason if everyone can stay healthy the bar can rise even higher in 2026.“It’s great,” Prescott said of Pickens’ presence. “You feel his energy. You feel his presence. It’s in the locker room. Obviously, it’s out there on the football field. Everything felt good. He looks great. I know he’s going to be ready for (training) camp.”You can follow Reid on X @ReidDHanson and be sure to follow Cowboys Wire on Facebook to join in on the conversation with fellow fans! This article originally appeared on Cowboys Wire: Dak Prescott on Cowboys’ $27M wildcard: ‘That guy’s ready’

Los Angeles Sparks provide Kate Martin injury update
After exiting Wednesday's 99-83 loss to Minnesota with a knee injury, the Los Angeles Sparks provided an injury update on former Hawkeye Kate Martin on June 19.Martin collected just one rebound and took three shots during her brief seven minutes of action against the Lynx on Wednesday before being ruled out with a knee strain by the team's medical professionals.“She had a little knee strain. We got it all tested, and now she's just kind of been returned to play, so she's wearing the jerseys, you know, non-contact, so she's day-to-day as well," said Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts when discussing Martin's inclusion in the list of injuries that have taken a toll on the team lately.EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Los Angeles Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts on waiving second-year forward Sania Feagin to sign point guard Kiana Williams, a former developmental player with the Phoenix Mercury.Coach Roberts also shared detailed injury updates on Kelsey Plum, Cameron Brink… pic.twitter.com/qHAThCccLY— John W. Davis (@johnwdavis) June 19, 2026Fortunately for Martin, the strain does not appear to be inhibiting her ability to practice, and she could be a candidate to be activated to the active roster for the Sparks' matchup tonight against the New York Liberty at Crypto.com Arena. It is also important to note that Martin's Player Development Contract allows her to be activated to the active roster for up to 12 games before a decision must be made on whether to sign her to a standard player contract. If the deadlock persists after those 30 minutes of extra time, then a penalty shootout will determine the team that moves on to the quarterfinals. The Round of 32 pairings are set in advance. What is the ceiling (and floor) for the Denver Broncos in 2026?
Last season was one to remember for the Denver Broncos. They finished the regular season with a 14-3 record, tying the franchise-best mark of 14 regular-season wins that was set in 1998. They captured the AFC West crown for the first time since the 2015 season, a campaign that culminated in the franchise winning Super Bowl 50 and earning the top seed in the AFC in the NFL Playoffs. The Broncos advanced to the AFC Championship Game, but lost starting quarterback Bo Nix on the penultimate play of the previous game and went on to fall to the Patriots 10-7, keeping them from their first Super Bowl appearance in a decade. Now, with Denver looking to make it back to the postseason for a third straight year, what is the ceiling – and what is the floor – for the Broncos in 2026?Ceiling: 14-3The Broncos will have a healthy Bo Nix back at signal caller, and this offseason, they made a major offensive addition in Jaylen Waddle, giving Nix an elite No. 1 wideout to work with. The Broncos had one of the top defenses in the NFL last season, ranking second in the league in yards allowed, and they return several of the pieces that made them so dangerous on that side of the ball. 15-16 wins are rare with the expanded 17-game schedule, but it wouldn't be a surprise if the Broncos can repeat their record from last year.Floor: 9-7The Broncos won eight one-score contests last season, and the likelihood of pulling off wins in so many close contests in back-to-back years is low. There is a lot of parity in the league, and if the Broncos don't take another step forward – or other teams do – some of those coin flip games could go differently, and things could look a lot different at the end of the season. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: What is the ceiling (and floor) for the Denver Broncos in 2026?

Iowa football offers 2028 Hawkeyes legacy offensive lineman
After attending Iowa's Hawkeye Tailgater event this past week, the program offered 2028 offensive lineman James Barrett, who is the son of Offensive Line coach George Barnett. The 6-foot-2, 270-pound lineman from Iowa City West High School in Iowa City, Iowa, serves as the team's center. Windies edge past Sri Lanka to remain unbeaten
West Indies and England are both unbeaten in Group Two [Getty Images]Women's T20 World Cup, Group 2, Bristol Sri Lanka 98 (19.4 overs): De Silva 30 (26); Matthews 3-15West Indies 99-5 (16.1 overs): Taylor 27* (25); Dilhari 2-22West Indies won by five wicketsScorecard, TableWest Indies edged closer to the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup despite making hard work of chasing just 99 against Sri Lanka. The Windies slipped to 70-5 before the experience of veteran Stafanie Taylor calmly got them over the line with 3.5 overs to spare. Taylor finished with 27 not out to ensure that West Indies remain unbeaten in Group 2, along with England, while the result also eliminates winless Ireland. Sri Lanka, who are struggling with one win from three, were skittled for 98 in 19.4 overs as Windies skipper Hayley Matthews took 3-15.Player of the match Matthews took all her wickets in the first three overs as Sri Lanka slumped to 9-3, including captain Chamari Athapaththu being dismissed for two. Kavisha Dilhari made 21 and Nilakshi de Silva scored 30 as Sri Lanka gradually rebuilt but Matthews was backed up by a fine all-round performance, with a wicket apiece for the other four bowlers. De Silva struggled for support from elsewhere as their reliance on Athapaththu was evident once more.West Indies next face England on Wednesday, where the winner will book their place in the semis. Red Sox News & Links: Injury updates on Romy Gonzalez, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, history for Aroldis Chapman
BOSTON, MA - JUNE 18: Isiah Kiner-Falefa #2 of the Boston Red Sox celebrates while scoring after hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning during the game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Thursday, June 18, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Natalie Reid/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images Hey, remember that one-step-forward-two-steps-back pattern of injury recovery we discussed just three days ago? It’s back! Three games into his rehab assignment, Romy Gonzalez missed yesterday’s game with hip flexor soreness. The Red Sox are “collecting information” on the injury before determining next steps. (Chris Cotillo, MassLive)And, unfortunately, Romy’s setback comes just as the Red Sox lose another infielder. Isiah Kiner-Falefa, the much-maligned offseason acquisition who has been on the team’s better hitters of late, was placed on the 10-day IL with left forearm inflammation. There is some concern, however, that said inflammation could actually be a broken bone. He underwent an MRI yesterday in Seattle, and will undergo a CT scan when the team returns to Boston on Thursday. (Tim Healey, Boston Globe)Thankfully the infield is not a totally lost cause. After playing the first two months of the season as arguably the worst hitter in all of baseball, Caleb Durbin has turned this around in June, hitting .271/.294/.583 with 4 homers. (Aaliyan Mahammed, NESN)Aroldis Chapman has never needed to turn anything around — he’s been one of the very best relievers in baseball for most of his career, and certainly from the moment he put on a Red Sox uniform. And now he’s on the verge of becoming the all-time leader for strikeouts by a reliever. (Daniel Yanofsky, NESN)But don’t get too attached to Chapman. The 2026 team is still headed towards “massive sell-off” territory as it parallels another recent and disappointing season: 2014. “The dynamics are almost eerily familiar: A team coming off a ‘restoration’ year and believing that an emerging young core had created a title window. An offensive collapse that occurred in no small part because of a power deficiency, and because unestablished big leaguers weren’t ready. A waste of pitching excellence. The early realization that anticipated contention could give way to a massive selloff.” (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)Chapman is nearing the end of his career, while Connelly Early is just at the beginning of his. Maybe that’s why he needed a pep talk from Carlos Narvaez (Hey! He is still on the team! That’s great.) in the first inning of last night’s game. (Josh Kirshenbaum, MLB.com)

New CBA could result in underperforming officials working UFL games
The new Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NFL and the NFL Referees Association emphasizes competition. And it carries fresh accountability for those who can't compete. As mentioned in the ESPN article that takes a close look at the nooks and crannies of the new CBA, underperforming officials can be assigned to the UFL.The decision would come following a review of the officials "who underperformed during the season, and were not assigned" to a playoff game, NFL V.P. of officiating training and development Ramon George told ESPN. Those officials would work with their supervisors to review each of their calls and to identify any mistakes in mechanics and positioning. Following the review, George will assign officials to work in the UFL, "if necessary."It's unclear how many officials could be assigned to work in the UFL. It's also not known how that would impact existing UFL officials. Will the NFL officials who are relegated for extra work supplant UFL officials? Will the UFL be able to say, "thanks, but we're good" and/or "no thanks; that guy sucks"?Regardless, it's the first clear connection between the NFL and the UFL, which has become the de facto developmental league for NFL players. Now, it will become the officiating equivalent of being sent to the minors. It's another reason for the NFL to have its own developmental league. That likely won't happen, however, unless and until the NFL sees a way to generate sufficient profit from creating a way for players, officials, coaches, and executives to get real football experience.

Ashley Cole expected to leave Cesena eight games into Serie B career
Ashley Cole expected to leave Cesena eight games into Serie B careerReports in Italy indicate that former England international Ashley Cole is set to leave his position as head coach of Serie B side Cesena just eight games after he was handed the reins.Ashley Cole expected to leave Cesena after eight gamesCole was appointed in mid-March, joining Cesena who were on the push for a play-off spot in Serie B at the time. This was the former Chelsea and Arsenal left-back’s first full-time role as a head coach.Cole, who spent two years with Roma towards the end of his playing career, did not get off to the best of starts upon his return to Italy. At the time of his appointment, there were reports that the Cesena fans and players were not at all pleased with the dismissal of previous head coach Michele Mignani.Mignani had lost eight of his final 13 matches in charge of Cesena, but his form from the beginning of the season was still enough to have the team up in the play-off positions at the time of his departure.Reports at the time claimed that Cesena’s former sporting director Filippo Fusco did not approve of the sacking of Mignani, and some players were reportedly left in tears upon hearing the news of his departure. It is believed that the original decision to appoint Cole was taken by the club’s Californian-based co-owner Mike Melby, who knew the Englishman well from his time with LA Galaxy. However, like the players and sporting director, the Cesena fans were not best pleased with the decision to replace Mignani midway through the season, and that is before Cole’s record of one win from eight matches in charge is taken under consideration.DERBY, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 13: Ashley Cole, Assistant Head Coach of England U21’s, looks on prior to the 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualifier match between England and Andorra at Pride Park on October 13, 2025 in Derby, England. (Photo by Nathan Stirk/Getty Images)In the end, Cesena finished the 2025-26 season in 11th place in Serie B: Cole recording a record of one win, three draws and four defeats.According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, there had briefly been discussions over a possible contract extension for Cole, whose contract with Cesena will expire on June 30, but now, it appears that it is almost certain the Englishman will leave by the end of the month.

Carlos Sainz Issues Public Ultimatum: How Long Will He Wait for Williams?
When former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer recently speculated that Carlos Sainz was already eyeing a contract escape clause, it was easy to dismiss it as standard paddock gossip. But the whisper network just got a massive dose of reality. The four-time Grand Prix winner has officially gone on the record, completely confirming the rumors that he is actively questioning his future with Williams. In a remarkably candid new interview with Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Sainz dropped the PR filter and openly admitted that the team’s abysmal start to the 2026 season is forcing him to reconsider his long-term commitment to James Vowles’ project.“Further Away Than Expected”When Sainz signed with Williams, he bought into a multi-year rebuilding phase centered entirely around the 2026 regulation reset. The expectation was that the new regulations, paired with their class-leading Mercedes power unit, would slingshot the historic British team back to the front of the grid. Instead, they are completely marooned in the midfield.Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Sainz explicitly voiced his frustration with the team’s developmental regression, revealing his fear that the team’s ultimate goals have already been delayed by “a few months or a year.”“It is true that last year we were closer than expected to the leaders, and this year further away than expected,” Sainz explained. “So maybe one thing balances the other, and it is something that I am working on, also in my head, how long I am willing to wait to win again in Formula 1, and I want that time to be as short as possible.”A Massive Red Flag for WilliamsFor a Team Principal, having your star driver publicly admit that he is mentally calculating exactly “how long he is willing to wait” is an absolute worst-case scenario. It proves that Palmer’s earlier assessment was completely accurate: Sainz did not sign up to fight for ninth place, and his patience is officially running out.May 24, 2026; Montreal, Quebec, CANADA; Williams driver Carlos Sainz (55) during the Lenovo Grand Prix Du Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Mandatory Credit: Eric Bolte-Imagn ImagesIn Formula 1, a developmental delay of “a year” is an eternity. Sainz is currently 31 years old and operating in the prime of his racing career. He knows firsthand what it feels like to pilot a race-winning chassis, and the brutal reality of scraping together lower-tier points while his former Ferrari seat is occupied by Lewis Hamilton is clearly taking a massive mental toll. The 2026 Grid RealityIf Sainz decides that his internal timer has expired and he wants his wait to be “as short as possible,” his actual exit options are incredibly specific.Mercedes & Ferrari are Locked: With Kimi Antonelli dominating alongside George Russell at Brackley, and the Hamilton/Leclerc super-team firmly established at Maranello, the two top constructor seats are entirely unavailable. The Red Bull Lifeline: The most logical escape route remains Milton Keynes. If Team Principal Laurent Mekies decides that Red Bull needs a more proven, reliable veteran to back up Max Verstappen, Sainz is the ultimate plug-and-play candidate. The Aston Martin Gamble: While Aston Martin is currently suffering through their own catastrophic engine vibration issues with Honda, their long-term ceiling under car designer Adrian Newey might still look far more appealing to Sainz than waiting out a multi-year delay at Williams.Ultimately, the clock is now loudly ticking in the Williams garage. Sainz has drawn his line in the sand, and if the chassis doesn’t dramatically improve soon, the Spaniard is going to take his talents elsewhere.

Real Madrid can attempt selling Nico Paz to the Premier League as Como struggle
Real Madrid can attempt selling Nico Paz to the Premier League as Como struggleNico Paz really grew in stature at Serie A side Como in the last two seasons, helping them qualify for the Champions League. As Real Madrid look to buy him back, there is a chance he can soon end up in England. There have been major suggestions that Los Blancos are demanding a massive figure from Como to let them sign the Argentine, with Jose Mourinho sharing the same stance.SportItaliareport that the situation around the attacking midfielder is heating up. Next week will be key, as Como executives will fly to Madrid between Thursday and Friday in an attempt to convince Real Madrid about a deal.Mourinho’s side are proving to be a real headache though. They can now engineer to possible move to the Premier League, especially as Como have been left reeling by the €60 million price tag. Real Madrid also want a €80 million buyback, which the Ligurians are hesitant in having. This is causing concern in Italy and it won’t be a surprise if English clubs join the race.Things complicatingAs things stand, everything can come down to Nico Paz and his entourage as they are keen on staying at Como beyond this summer. If he pushes and puts his foot down, he could yet get control over his career instead of being used by Real Madrid simply as a means to earn money.Things are complicating for Como but they should hinge on the player’s entourage for help.Kaustubh Pandey I GIFN

“A player we were looking for”: Werder confirm transfer of Swiss international
“A player we were looking for”: Werder confirm transfer of Swiss internationalWerder Bremen have officially announced the signing of Cedric Itten from Fortuna Düsseldorf, bringing one of the most productive strikers from last season’s 2. Bundesliga to the Weserstadion. The Swiss international joins after scoring 15 league goals for Fortuna during the 2025/26 campaign. Although Düsseldorf were unable to avoid relegation, Itten’s performances attracted interest from several clubs, with Werder ultimately winning the race for his signature. Due to a contractual clause that rendered his deal invalid following Fortuna’s drop to the 3. Liga, the striker was available on a free transfer.Werder’s sporting leadership views Itten as an ideal addition to the squad, with the club highlighting his physical presence, aerial ability and proven eye for goal. The move also reunites Itten with head coach Daniel Thioune. The pair previously worked together at Fortuna Düsseldorf during the early stages of last season, a factor that reportedly played an important role in the player’s decision to move to Bremen. Under Thioune, Itten made a strong start to the campaign before continuing to establish himself as Fortuna’s leading attacking threat.Itten is currently part of the Switzerland team at the 2026 World Cup.

Spain do not have to win when they take on Saudi Arabia in Atlanta on Sunday, owing to the bloated format at World Cup 2026, but improvements in attack will be a must.Having been held by Cape Verde in one of the great World Cup shocks on Monday, Luis de la Fuente will be hoping star man Lamine Yamal can contribute more than 19 minutes off the bench as he battles back from a hamstring injury.Spain vs Saudi Arabia LIVE: World Cup team news as Lamine Yamal decision loomsSaudi Arabia, meanwhile, battled to a creditable draw against Uruguay in their opener and have no reason to feel overawed having beaten Argentina at the last tournament in Qatar. Here’s everything you need to know about this World Cup 2026 game:When is Spain v Saudi Arabia?Spain and Saudi Arabia is at 5pm BST on Sunday 21 June (12pm ET) in Atlanta. Trump admin sues key trans org, another country bans homosexuality & Vance insults Pride
Trump administration sues the world’s leading trans medical group to suppress gender-affirming care What the lawsuit argues: The WPATH has published the standards of care for trans health care for decades. The Federal Trade Commission, now led by a Trump appointee, is suing the WPATH, saying that it fooled parents into getting gender-affirming care for their kids for personal financial benefit. Why it matters: All major medical associations back gender-affirming care for trans people as safe and life-saving, and the standards of that care are set by the WPATH. By claiming that they’re just in it for the money, the Trump administration is hoping to undermine the basis for gender-affirming care even further. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Niger bans homosexuality with a new law that will send gay people to 5 to 10 years in prison Why it’s happening now: Niger is one of several Saharan nations and former French colonies (along with Burkina Faso and Mali) that are banning homosexuality after their democratically elected governments were toppled by military coups in the 2020s. Niger’s government was overthrown in 2023. In 2025, homosexuality was banned, and this week that ban was officially codified. Why it matters: Not only does this make the lives of LGBTQ+ people in Niger worse, but it is also a sign of increased hostility towards LGBTQ+ people across both western and eastern Africa. Military junta in Niger bans homosexuality with 5 to 10 years in prison Federal judge shuts down Idaho bathroom ban What the judge said: Calling the state’s anti-trans bathroom ban “unconstitutionally vague,” Judge Amanda Brailsford wrote: “It does not identify any objective benchmark, specify what evidence may establish such a need, or explain how an officer is to assess whether the exception applies… Instead, enforcement largely depends on an officer’s subjective assessment of an individual’s physical condition at a particular moment.” Why it matters: Courts (but not the Supreme Court) remain one of the few federal institutions willing to stand up to the right and protect LGBTQ+ people’s rights. Federal judge temporarily blocks Idaho law threatening prison for trans restroom users JD Vance says that people “don’t have to do” Pride anymore now that Donald Trump is president The context of his statement: Vance was commenting on several Major League Baseball players who wrote Bible verses on their baseball caps during a Pride Night game in an attempt to insult LGBTQ+ people. Why it matters: While Pride Nights were never required by law – teams host them to draw more LGBTQ+ fans to support their games – his statement is part of a right-wing narrative that Trump’s election was not about any particular policy but was more about ending “woke,” that is, respect for historically oppressed minorities. This is one of the main reasons Trump’s supporters stand by him: he could crash the economy and start a war, but he gives MAGA permission to express their anger at Pride Nights. JD Vance says sports teams “don’t have to do” Pride Nights anymore because “Trump won” Trump administration declares fertilized embryos to be “children who already exist” in what could be an attack on IVF rights What happened: The Department of Health and Human Services updated its description of a small grant program to say that frozen embryos are “children who already exist and are in need of a family.” This is part of the anti-choice narrative, which states that an individual’s life begins at the moment of fertilization, even though a lot of fertilized eggs will never turn into children who are born. Why it matters: This idea was behind the court case that banned IVF in Alabama. IVF is a fertility treatment that requires many fertilized eggs to be created in the hopes of them resulting in even one pregnancy. LGBTQ+ parents are more likely to depend on IVF to build their families. “Trojan horse”: Trump admin calls embryos “children who already exist” in possible threat to IVF Pictures of the week Indianapolis celebrated Pride this past weekend. World Cup frenzy shows why NFL is globalizing — and how much more work needs to be done
The ongoing World Cup frenzy throughout the United States should both fascinate and depress the NFL.On one hand, it shows what happens when a sport becomes a truly global phenomenon. On the other hand, it shows how far the NFL has to go in its effort to globalize. The notion that an international American football tournament could bring tens of thousands of fans from other countries to the host nation for a 104-match free-for-all lasting more than a month (with hundreds of millions watching worldwide on TV) should inspire the NFL to keep pushing. The fact that American football is a very long way from ever getting to that point could make some wonder why the NFL is even bothering.Still, the NFL has decided it's worth the money and the effort to keep pushing the sport to an international audience. The emergence of flag football could be the first step toward eventually having a World Cup-style gathering, especially since it's much easier to export a game that requires far less equipment. And if flag football assists in the generation of greater interest in tackle football, perhaps more and more countries will embrace that version of the sport, in time.Time is the key word. When the NFL first started playing regular-season games in London nearly two decades ago, it was seen by some as part of a 100-year plan to take the existing NFL inventory and expand the interest in (and viewership of) those games. When I first caught the incurable NFL virus in the early '70s, thanks to the Immaculate Reception, NFL Films, and Howard Cosell's halftime highlights, baseball was by far the dominant sport in America. Now, baseball has fallen behind football, basketball, and soccer — with football clearly taking over as the new American pastime.Football won't catch soccer, from a global perspective, any time soon. Possibly, the sun will burn out before that ever happens.Regardless, the NFL is laying the foundation for seeing how far the sport can go. Even if it will take decades (if not centuries) to close the global gap with soccer, the NFL is committed to trying. The images we've seen since the World Cup started nine days ago underscore the simple fact that the potential upside (whatever it may be) is well worth the effort.

“I hope one day he’ll be in a league with Platini and Zidane” - Saliba on Olise
“I hope one day he’ll be in a league with Platini and Zidane” - Saliba on OliseWilliam Saliba has become the latest high-profile figure to underline the growing influence of Michael Olise, with the France defender praising his teammate’s extraordinary technical ability and maturity on the ball.Speaking about the Bayern Munich winger, Saliba left little doubt about how highly he rates the 24-year-old.“As everyone can see, I think he's a star. He's a very, very good player.”Olise has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past year, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking players and becoming an increasingly important figure for both club and country. His creativity, composure and ability to decide matches have earned widespread admiration, and Saliba believes his impact is already evident whenever he takes to the pitch. The Arsenal defender was keen to stress, however, that comparisons with legendary French playmakers Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane remain premature.“Of course there is still a long way to go before he can be compared to Michel Platini or Zinedine Zidane. But in any case, it's a pleasure to have him in our team.”Despite urging caution, Saliba did not hide his belief that Olise possesses the qualities needed to eventually enter that conversation.“He's a player who can do everything and who can break the deadlock in all sort of situations. I hope that one day he'll be in a league with Platini and Zidane, but it's too early now.”One of the most striking aspects of Saliba’s praise centred on Olise’s decision-making. While many gifted attackers rely heavily on individual brilliance, the defender highlighted the winger’s intelligence and efficiency as key strengths.“Technically he is world-class. He can shoot, he can dribble, he can pass… he always plays the right ball and makes the right decision.”“He's not the type of player who'll try to dribble past everyone. When he needs to pass, he passes. When he needs to dribble, he dribbles."For Saliba, that combination of technical excellence and football intelligence sets Olise apart from many players of his generation. Rather than seeking the spectacular at every opportunity, the Bayern star consistently chooses the option that benefits the team most.As expectations around Olise continue to grow, Saliba’s comments offer a glimpse into the esteem in which he is held within the France camp. Surrounded by some of the world's best players, the winger has already established himself as a fan favourite among teammates. And for Saliba, the verdict is simple:“Honestly, it's a pleasure to watch him play.”With his reputation continuing to soar, Olise appears well placed to become a cornerstone of France’s future, even if, as Saliba himself admits, comparisons with Platini and Zidane can wait for another day.

Is Jaxson Dart's career on the line if Giants miss playoffs again?
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has made quite a stir in Giants training camp so far, and not all of it has been good.Dart introduced Donald Trump at one of his rallies, and that set off a controversy that the team and Dart are trying to sweep under the rug. It's great and all for the team to talk about unity after all this, but if Dart doesn't have a great season, what will it mean for his future? It means he is going to have to play his behind off to gain the respect of the teammates he may have lost because of the controversy and the unwanted attention he brought to this team. But is Dart capable of weathering the storm? The Giants had seemed to find their identity before running back Cam Skattebo was injured, and when the Giants needed Dart to carry the team to the playoffs, he couldn't- at least not by himself. Now, Dart has put himself in a precarious spot where he has to do well, or the Giants could move on from him quickly. There was a time when rookie quarterbacks were given time to learn and mature, but this is a new day and time. You have to wonder how quickly this team could turn on Dart if he doesn't get it. Will management have the patience to wait, or will they move on to next year's draft? With everything that has already happened this offseason, you have to believe that Dart is on a short leash. This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Is Jaxson Dart's career on the line if Giants miss playoffs again?

What have we learned from Scotland's World Cup so far?
After two World Cup outings, Scotland's hopes of progressing from Group C hang in the balance. They have three points after a 1-0 win over Haiti and a 1-0 reverse against Morocco. That tally could be enough should they avoid a heavy defeat against Brazil on Wednesday (23:00 BST), while a point would all but guarantee their place in the last 32.But what have we learned from the two outings in Boston before the Tartan Army descend on Miami?Scotland expects: What is behind McTominay's understated World Cup?Boston bounce sends Scotland to Miami with hope and no fearReferee told McGinn penalty denied as ball going out of playLack of attacking thrustChe Adams managed just 11 touches against Morocco [BBC]In the build-up to this tournament, head coach Steve Clarke deployed a 4-4-2 formation in friendlies against Curacao and Bolivia to great effect.Against admittedly poor opposition, Scotland scored eight goals across the two matches and looked confident before the World Cup.Clarke stuck with the same shape for the tournament opener against Haiti, but Scotland had fewer shots than their opponents and a lower expected goals (xG of 1.05 v 1.21).John McGinn's winning goal came via a deflection, and starting strikers Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams were on the periphery. Shankland dropped to the bench against Morocco as Clarke bolstered his midfield, but once again, Adams failed to get into the contest.Often an isolated figure up front, he failed to hold the ball up and get Scotland up the park, managing just 11 touches before being substituted for Lyndon Dykes on 71 minutes. Scotland finished the game with zero shots on target. It seems likely Clarke will go with the same system against Brazil, but there could be a personnel change with Dykes, Shankland, Ross Stewart and George Hirst competing with Adams to lead the line.Winger Ben Gannon-Doak, having impressed against Haiti, provided much-needed late dynamism off the bench as Clarke's side finished strongly against Morocco.Fellow wide player Findlay Curtis, 19, came off the bench late on against Haiti for his World Cup debut and also offers pace and trickery. Might he feature at some stage in midweek as Scotland look to relieve the pressure?Defensive solidityAlthough Scotland have struggled to carve out meaningful opportunities in their two group matches, they have been largely solid in defence. One mistake against Morocco was punished as Ismael Saibari raced past Grant Hanley to score the game's only goal after just 70 seconds. However, from that point onwards, the Scots' back four limited their high-quality opposition to relatively few chances.Jack Hendry was superb, averting danger more than once with his pace and reading of the game. His block to deny Saibari a second was out of the top drawer."Terrible start but the reaction to that was good," Clarke said after the game. "We had to dig in for five or 10 minutes just to get our feet in the game."This group of players, this squad, have shown that [resilience] in abundance over the years."That resilience bodes well for Scotland's third group game, where another stout defensive display is of vital importance.Gunn justifies Clarke's faith[Getty Images]It was widely expected Angus Gunn would be Scotland's number one for this tournament, but the 30-year-old's struggle for minutes with Nottingham Forest last season meant he was not a certainty.Having signed on a free transfer last summer after his Norwich City deal expired, Gunn made just one club appearance, playing 45 minutes off the bench in a 1-1 Premier League draw against Crystal Palace. However, Clarke stuck with Gunn ahead of Craig Gordon and Liam Kelly and has been justified in his selection to this point.A clean sheet against Haiti - despite one or two hairy moments - ensured a vital three points in the hunt for knockout football. He had no chance with Saibari's powerful strike in game two and kept Scotland in the contest with several fine stops, denying Achraf Hakimi, Bilal El Khannouss and Chemsdine Talbi.More of the same will be required come Wednesday night.Mixed bag in midfield without GilmourBilly Gilmour was ruled out of the World Cup after injuring his knee in a pre-tournament friendly against Curacao [Getty Images]Although Billy Gilmour is with the squad in the United States, Scotland have missed the Napoli man's calming influence in the heart of midfield. He sustained a knee injury in the friendly victory against Curacao and was ruled out of the World Cup, with Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher called up in his place. In both matches, Scotland have struggled to both keep possession and build attacks through midfield. One of Gilmour's strengths is his ability to take the ball off his centre-backs and progress the play.Against Haiti and Morocco, there has been plenty of keeping the ball at the back before going long towards Adams. Much has been made of Scott McTominay's subdued start to the tournament and how well Lewis Ferguson has applied himself, but neither are in the Gilmour mould.World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World Cup

Broncos OLB Drew Sanders ‘doing well’ as an edge defender
Denver Broncos fourth-year linebacker Drew Sanders finally comes into a season healthy. Sanders has battled injury after injury, including a torn Achilles in 2024, and a season-ending foot injury in 2025. But coach Sean Payton believes Sanders could just be getting started. "I think, to his credit, he’s in great shape," Payton said of Sanders in late May. "He’s someone that has that versatility. The one thing when you watch him play, when it’s decisive and it’s really good. I think that he’s moving around, he’s at a good weight. You probably see him more at the edge."True to his word, Payton has tested Sanders out early as an edge rusher during organized team activities as well as mandatory minicamp. Payton has been impressed with the results of Sanders' play. "He’s doing well out here playing an edge position," Payton said on Wednesday. "He’s instinctive. He’s at one of those positions [where] it’s hard to evaluate with what we’re doing right now. He can get the alignment, the assignment, all of that. There’s a young player that, knock on wood, we feel like is really talented, and (can) stay healthy."Sanders and fellow linebacker Jonah Elliss could get an extended look at pass-rusher, depending on how the legal and league status of veteran Jonathon Cooper plays out in the weeks leading up to training camp. Both players have impressed coaches, which could potentially constitute a major change at the position across from Nik Bonitto. For now, Payton is focused on Sanders' health. "This is one of the offseasons (Sanders is) coming into this portion of training camp healthy, so I’m encouraged with that.” Let's hope it stays that way. Why Dustin Johnson is LIV Golf’s only hope of avoiding further embarrassment after The Open Championship
Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty ImagesDustin Johnson still needs to qualify for The Open Championship to stand any chance of making the cut at all four majors in the same calendar year for the first time since 2019. Johnson was one of LIV Golf’s last men standing this week at the US Open. The two-time major champion got off to a flyer at Shinnecock Hills. However, an eight during his second round largely put paid to his hopes of winning the event for a second time.It has been another incredibly poor week for LIV. In fact, the US Open has opened the door for an occurrence that would be a complete embarrassment for the league. There is now just one LIV Golf player who can possibly make the cut at all four majors in 2026.The rare highs and many lows of LIV Golf’s biggest names in the majors in 2026Much was made of how badly The Masters went for those on LIV. Tyrrell Hatton performed superbly to finish in a tie for third. However, the Englishman was the only LIV player to finish inside the top 30 at Augusta National.Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut, while Jon Rahm was able to finish up his week early on Sunday. There was better news for Rahm at the PGA Championship as he reminded everyone of his quality by finishing tied for second.Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty ImagesElsewhere, Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut, and Hatton joined him in not making it through to the weekend.Rahm was a surprise casualty at Shinnecock Hills, with his second round completely unravelling.Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut alongside him.Only Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Niemann, and Caleb Surratt made it to the weekend at the US Open. With that, Johnson is now the only LIV player who has any chance of making all four major cuts this year.Dustin Johnson may not even get a chance to make the cut at The Open ChampionshipThe big problem with that is that the 41-year-old is not currently in the field for The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. He could yet decide to go through Final Qualifying at one of the four venues available to him. Meanwhile, there are still places up for grabs through the DP World Tour events in Italy and Scotland. However, Johnson is no longer exempt due to his victory at the 2020 Masters. He has played on the DP World Tour this season, but it would appear that he is not currently planning to tee it up in Italy next week.Obviously, missing one major cut in the season is not the end of the world by any means. DeChambeau missed the cut at The Open Championship in the same year he won the US Open for a second time. But it is striking just how many of the PGA Tour’s best players are inside the top 20 heading into the final round at Shinnecock Hills.Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler had also won four of the last six majors between them.By contrast, LIV’s biggest star, DeChambeau, has missed four major cuts in his last five starts. The debate about whether LIV Golf events properly prepare their players for the majors has been emphatically put to bed.
