🤣 Coritiba player scores, falls into tunnel celebrating, watch 🎥Couto Pereira witnessed a hilarious episode this Saturday (8) involving center-back Jacy during the clash between Coritiba and Chapecoense. The home team captain found the net from a set piece and, during the celebration, jumped over one of the advertising boards by the side of the pitch. The problem is that right where he decided to do it, there is one of the stairways leading onto the field. When he landed on the other side of the advertising board, Jacy went straight into the tunnel, causing concern among his teammates. To make matters worse, the goal was later disallowed for offside.See below how it happened:Jacy was treated by Coritiba’s medical staff, stayed in the game, but had to be substituted early in the second half.According to Cazé TV, he came off because of the fall during the celebration. The defender was seen on the bench with ice on his ankle. It’s not the first time! Most incredibly, it’s not the first time this has happened to a Coritiba player at Couto Pereira. In the 2014 Brasileirão, Cameroonian forward Joel was also a “victim” of the stadium tunnel. He scored one of the goals in Coxa’s win over São Paulo and got hurt in the same spot after jumping over the advertising board. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. UFC Vegas 120 Highlights! Miller Brutalizes Goff After Corner Fails To Step In
Ty Miller cemented himself as a true prospect to watch earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) at UFC Vegas 120 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the revamped Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as “Thriller” steamrolled fellow welterweight Billy Ray Goff with a blistering third-round TKO (punches). This was all Miller from the opening bell. He utilized his long reach to establish a range Goff couldn’t keep up with. This basically made him target practice for Miller, who had no trouble finding his shots in bunches. Miller hurt Goff with a stiff jab, shots to the body, head kicks, and upper cuts. It was a striking clinic from the undefeated prospect. It appeared Goff suffered an orbital injury to his right eye along the way, but his corner still allowed him off the stool for the third round. It’s unfortunate they did because Miller slammed a perfect right hand that instantly shut Goff down and finally forced the referee to stop the fight. While some may debate the decision Goff’s corner made this fight was all about Miller’s performance. He was downright dominant and should be a real name to watch in the welterweight division heading into next year.Check out his knockout finish below:Goff ATE this headkick early from Ty Miller 😳[ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/Wyvpfdv68y— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026TY MILLER IS NASSSTTYYYY IN THE OCTAGON 😮‍💨He gets the late TKO tonight! UFC Vegas 120 video: Daniel Cormier rips Billy Ray Goff's corner after Ty Miller TKO
Daniel Cormier and many others in the MMA community were not pleased with Billy Ray Goff's corner after his TKO loss to Ty Miller at UFC Fight Night 284.After Goff (9-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) got battered for two rounds by Miller, there was reluctance to start the third round of the welterweight bout at Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Goff's corner sent him out, and almost immediately he got smashed with a huge punch by Miller (8-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) that sent him flying back to the cage and folded into the canvas at the 0:15 mark of Round 3.TY MILLER IS NASSSTTYYYY IN THE OCTAGON 😮‍💨He gets the late TKO tonight! "Look at his right eye. And then when he got hit on the right eye he went down. The coach told him, 'Don't engage, just circle' and essentially run. Why not just stop the fight? ... The writing was on the wall, especially if that's the advice you're giving your guy going into the third round."Many others in the MMA community agreed with Cormier's take on the result. They did, and he got stopped 5 seconds into the 3rd. Irresponsible corner job. #UFCVegas120https://t.co/r7kCXfvIVD— Matthew Wells (@MrMWells) August 9, 2026Complete dereliction of duty from the Goff corner. He's down two rounds and their advice is for him to avoid Miller and circle.Just call the fight and let him fight another day.— Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) August 9, 2026After the impressive beatdown from Miller, he also gave his thoughts on the fight going into a third round."I didn't think he was going to get off the stool, to be honest," Miller told Cormier in their post-fight interview. Commanders five-time Pro Bowl LT Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps
The Washington Commanders entered training camp believing they had one of the NFL's best left tackles protecting Jayden Daniels. That plan has taken a devastating hit.Five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps during one-on-one pass-rush drills, according to reports from Adam Schefter and Steve Wyche. Tunsil will likely require surgery and is expected to miss a significant portion of the regular season. There are few offensive linemen capable of replacing what Tunsil provides. Washington acquired him to protect Daniels' blind side and provide stability at one of football's most important positions. Now, the Commanders must rearrange their offensive line weeks before the regular season begins.Andrew Wylie now is likely to be the Commanders’ new left tackle, with Josh Conerly at right tackle.Brandon Coleman was Washington’s left tackle in 2024 but he had been moved to guard. https://t.co/QhNwU7hJvH— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 9, 2026Andrew Wylie is expected to move to left tackle, with Josh Conerly remaining on the right side. Brandon Coleman started at left tackle in 2024, but Washington had already moved him inside to guard. Moving Coleman back outside remains an option, but doing so would create another opening along the interior. Washington may also explore the veteran market before settling on its starting five. What the injury means for the EaglesThe Eagles already had several reasons to feel confident about their defensive front. Tunsil's absence gives Vic Fangio another potential weakness to attack when Philadelphia faces Washington.Wylie is an experienced starter, but moving from right tackle to the left side is a significant adjustment. Philadelphia can rotate its edge defenders, change their alignments and create opportunities to isolate Washington's tackles in obvious passing situations.Tunsil's injury could also force the Commanders to keep a running back or tight end in protection, giving Daniels fewer receiving options downfield. How the NFC East outlook changesWashington shouldn't be removed from the NFC East race because of one injury. Daniels remains one of the division's most dangerous quarterbacks, and the Commanders have time to adjust their protection plan. They can emphasize quicker throws, move the pocket and give Wylie help against the division's best pass rushers. Still, losing an elite left tackle changes how an offense operates. The Eagles, Cowboys and Giants will enter their matchups against Washington knowing there is a new area to attack. Every defensive coordinator in the division will look for ways to test Wylie, Conerly and Washington's ability to communicate after the reshuffle.Final analysisTunsil could return later in the season, depending on his recovery. Until then, the Commanders must find a way to protect Daniels without the player expected to anchor their offensive line. Washington still has enough talent to contend, but the road just became far more difficult. One of its greatest strengths has suddenly become one of the biggest questions in the NFC East. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Commanders five-time Pro Bowl LT Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps

RI falls to New York in Little League Metro Regional opener
The Rhode Island champion Lincoln Little League All-Stars opened regional play with a tough loss on Saturday, Aug. 8, falling to the New York champions from Port Washington 10-3 at the Metro Regional tournament held at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol, Connecticut. The New Yorkers struck first, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning, and adding four more in the third to take an early lead. Lincoln answered with two runs in the bottom of the third when Tucker Choiniere doubled home Adrian Duffney, who opened the inning with a walk.Choiniere advanced to third on a ground ball, then scored when Jackson Lockhart grounded out to the second baseman. Two innings later, Duffney hit a one-out single, took second when Choiniere drew a walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then came in to score on another wild pitch. But New York would not allow any other runs and added three more of its own in the final frame to seal the game.Hugo Fiero, Duffney and Choiniere each recorded a hit, with Duffney scoring two of Rhode Island's three runs. The regional tournament is double-elimination style, and the Little Leaguers from Lincoln are no strangers to that format. Lincoln navigated the losers’ bracket and beat Barrington twice, including a 2-1 triumph in the winner-take-all Rhode Island championship final to capture the state’s crown. The win marked Lincoln’s return to the regional stage for the first time since 2013, when it played in the New England Regional. Rhode Island takes the field again on Sunday, Aug. 9,. at 7 p.m., to face the loser of the Connecticut vs. New Jersey matchup (played Saturday night). This article originally appeared on The Providence Journal: RI falls to New York in Little League Metro Regional opener

Hossler and Brennan share Wyndham Championship lead with postseason berths at stake
Beau Hossler hits from the second tee during the first round of the 3M Open golf tournament at the Tournament Players Club Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Blaine, Minn. (AP Photo/Bruce Kluckhohn)2026-08-09T00:45:52Z GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Beau Hossler handled a half-dozen tough par putts and two rain delays Saturday for a 4-under 66 that gave him a share of the lead with Michael Brennan going into the final round of the Wyndham Championship with postseason berths at stake.Hossler is No. 122 in the FedEx Cup, knowing his only mathematical chance to be among the top 70 to advance to playoffs is to win for the first time on the PGA Tour. Brennan, who went from the PGA Tour Americas to a PGA Tour card by winning the Bank of Utah Championship last fall, made a birdie putt from 15 feet on the last hole for a 63.They were at 16-under 194, one shot ahead of Scottish Open winner Tom Kim (63), and two shots clear of 44-year-old Alex Noren and Alex Smalley, who each shot 65.Such is the nature of the final regular-season tournament — and the stakes — that nine of the top 10 players on the leaderboard shot 66 or lower on Saturday. Hossler was leading until a 30-minute delay because of storms, and returned to three-putt from 30 feet for bogey on the par-3 16th hole, ending his streak of 31 holes without a bogey. He hit his tee shot into the rough on the 17th and then came another delay of 1 hour, 20 minutes. The rough was even thicker and damper when he returned, and the greens were challenging as ever. Hossler save par with three putts from 10 feet or long, and three others in the 5-foot range that looks even longer with the grain in the greens. “That might be the hardest two-putt on the PGA Tour right there,” Hossler said of the 18th green. “Was really glad to get that down in two and give myself a chance for tomorrow. But very chaotic day, and just glad to make it through.” Read More Jordan Smith of England, at No. 68 in the FedEx Cup, helped his cause in many ways when he made a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th hole with a 9-iron. That also came with a million reward points from tournament sponsor Wyndham. Davis Thompson had enough drama to last a week. He is at No. 81 — a year ago he finished 71st after the Wyndham Championship and missed the postseason by five points — and holed out with an 8-iron from 186 yards for an albatross on the par-5 fifth hole. “Making an albatross usually helps get things going,” Thompson said. The other par 5 at Sedgefield didn’t work out as well. Thompson noticed a crack in his driver on the 13th hole, and he had a spare driver head in his locker. But before it could be brought out to him, he reached the par-5 15h and had to hit 3-wood. He his 3-iron (instead of a mid-iron) into the bunker and had to settle for par.Even so, his 65 put him in a great spot to hold his own and advance to the postseason.“It’s my fourth year on tour and two of the three years I’ve been right on the bubble, so I’ve got experience with it,” Thompson said.He also was close enough to the lead — three shots — to think about winning. Hossler has no choice but to win if he wants to get into the lucrative postseason, that starts with a pair of $20 million tournaments. Brennan, at No. 105, could finish in a three-way tie for second and still have a mathematical chance at the top 70.Brennan was more honest than most about the final round. “I know where I need to be. I know what I need to do. I know I’m going to be thinking about it,” he said. “Just get myself to comeback to the golf I’m playing.”Keegan Bradley got a reprieve by making the cut on the number, but he could only muster a 69 and needs a low round Sunday to move from his spot at No. 72. Andrew Putnam and Austin Smotherman also need something special.Ben James, the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University ranking who made his pro debut in June, has to win and he started one shot out of the lead and in the final group with Hossler. But he had four bogeys in a five-hole stretch on the back nine and, much like his Saturday in the Canadian Open, went the wrong direction in a hurry. He shot 72 and was seven shots behind.Brooks Koepka, meanwhile, will see his season returning from LIV Golf end sooner than he would have hoped. Koepka shot a 74 on Saturday and was 11 shots behind where he needed to be to have any chance of advancing.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf

FIFA defends Infantino against allegations tied to his time at UEFA
FIFA President Gianni Infantino makes comments during the opening ceremony of the International Broadcast Center, June 1, 2026, in Dallas. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez, File)2026-08-09T01:14:58Z LONDON (AP) — FIFA has issued a statement defending its president, Gianni Infantino, against what it calls a “concerted and ongoing effort” to undermine his leadership of the organization. The statement was released Saturday, a day after a report by British newspaper The Daily Telegraph raising questions about an exit package paid by UEFA to a female staffer who worked with Infantino when he was general secretary of European soccer’s governing body.UEFA confirmed that a “departure payment” was made to the employee and said it was “in line” with regulations at the time.Infantino worked at UEFA for 16 years before being elected FIFA president. In the statement Saturday, FIFA accused Infantino’s critics of trying to weaken his authority and remove him from office without due process.“It is increasingly evident that there is a concerted and ongoing effort by some to undermine FIFA and its president,” the FIFA statement said. “Those who do not have the support of FIFA’s member associations should not seek to achieve through allegation, insinuation or misinformation what they cannot achieve through FIFA’s established democratic processes.” It said some reporting has included “unsubstantiated assertions and demonstrably false claims” which shouldn’t be presented as fact.“Change inevitably challenges established interests, but disagreement with that change cannot justify efforts to undermine the democratic mandate of FIFA’s president or the institution he was elected to lead.” Infantino faced intense backlash after details of his plan to sell World Cup profits to private equity were published. UEFA and two other continental confederations — North America’s CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation — rejected the plan. Read More He did receive backing from FIFA’s management board last Wednesday following a meeting in Morocco, and he apologized over the process. UEFA’s threat to have its 55 member countries boycott FIFA competitions until the plan was scrapped remained, with UEFA saying Thursday that the announcement “changes nothing.”While confirming the exit payment “was in line with the regulations that existed for departing staff at the time,” UEFA said the rules had been tightened since 2016 and currently “reflect those found in a modern, high-profile organization.”___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

Boston fails to post 2nd win streak of 10-plus in a season for 1st time, falls to A’s 7-3
Boston Red Sox's Jarren Duran snaps his bat after striking out to end the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Athletics, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, in Boston. (AP Photo/Jim Davis)2026-08-09T00:38:06Z BOSTON (AP) — The way the things have gone for the Boston Red Sox since early July, it wouldn’t have been surprising if they pulled off another comeback.Instead, they loaded the bases against Athletics reliever Hogan Harris after scoring a run, but Ian White lined out solidly to center field to end their bid for a second win streak of at least 10 games in the same season for the first in team history with a 7-3 loss on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park.“That we might actually win the game the way it’s gone,” interim manager Chad Tracy said, when asked what he was thinking with the potential tying run at the plate.“It was a great effort to get the tying run to plate and give ourselves a shot, which was awesome,” Tracy said of the rally that started with two outs and a runner on second. It was just Boston’s fourth loss in its last 31 games. On Friday, the Red Sox became just the seventh team since 1920 to win 27 or more in a 30-game span, and the only team to begin their run under .500. On June 24, the Red Sox were 14 games under .500. Now, they’re 64-52.Just over two weeks ago, the Red Sox had a franchise record-tying 15-game win streak ended. It matched th mark set by the 1946 club that was led by future Hall of Famer Ted Williams. The most recent streak started July 29, after a loss in West Sacramento, California, against the Athletics, sending them on a nine-game skid. “I think that’s our identity. I think that’s who we are as a team,” Boston DH Jahmai Jones said. “We’ve seen comebacks for us, we’ve seen a lot of late inning rallies. Read More “Unfortunately, it was hit on the screws right at somebody,” he said of the final out.Entering Saturday, 12 of Boston’s last 19 wins came in a comeback, including Thursday when the Red Sox became the first team in modern MLB history to score in the final five innings from the ninth inning on in the same game in a 12-11 victory over the White Sox.“We had that hope, that big hope,” infielder Andruw Monasterio said.Boston has won its last nine series. Walbert Ureña suffers rare blowup in Angels loss
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Walbert Urena (57) throws against the Miami Marlins during the first inning at loanDepot Park. MIAMI - Walbert Ureña has been one of the most pleasant surprises to come out of the Los Angeles Angels this season, but that doesn't mean that he's immune to bad days. Saturday's start against the Miami Marlins was one of those days. Things went mostly smoothly for the flame-throwing 22-year-old through the first two innings, but the third was where things fell apart. Walbert Ureña could not make it out of the 3rd inning today… pic.twitter.com/EhvGI0miMC— SleeperAngels (@SleeperAngels) August 8, 2026Owen Caissie led off the bottom of the third with a line drive and soon after Ureña allowed back-to-back walks to load the bases with just one out, bringing up Xavier Edwards with a chance to do some serious damage. A Tough FourthThat's exactly what Edwards did. He ripped a sweeper at the top outside corner of the zone down the left field line for a double to drive in two runs, but that was just the start of Ureña's struggles. He allowed yet another walk to the next batter to step up to the plate, Kyle Stowers, then allowed a two-RBI single to Otto Lopez, again to left field, to improve the Marlins to a 4-0 lead. A workhorse by every definition. 🐎@sandyalcantar22 has set the franchise record for innings pitched. pic.twitter.com/Vh4ALjVPdk— Miami Marlins (@Marlins) August 8, 2026That single ended Ureña's day as Brett Kerry came in for relief, leaving Ureña with 2.1 innings pitched with four earned runs on four hits and three walks allowed while striking out just two, his worst start since a seven-run blowup he suffered against the Athletics on June 26. The rookie Kerry found himself in an interesting position after taking over for Ureña in the third as manager Kurt Suzuki chose to keep Kerry in for the rest of the game rather than utilize the rest of the bullpen. Kerry's Long DayKerry managed himself fairly well beyond one difficult inning of his own when the Marlins tacked on another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jakob Marsee led off the inning with a triple down the right field line, then headed home when Edwards singled him in with another line drive to Wade Meckler in left field. Loaded twice. Delivered twice. pic.twitter.com/EPCMu4ZtZB— Miami Marlins (@Marlins) August 8, 2026Kerry got one out after giving up that run, but two singles and a double followed to improve the Marlins to a 7-0 lead. Still, Kerry stayed on the mound for the rest of the game and finished with 5.2 innings pitched while allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk, but a promising site from Kerry was the seven Marlins that he struck out. Scoreless Against AlcantraAdd seven shutout innings and eight strikeouts to No. 22’s historic day. pic.twitter.com/wFOIkFbCWe— Miami Marlins (@Marlins) August 8, 2026Even if Ureña or Kerry hadn't had the difficult innings that they did, the Angels still would have had a hard time taking the ballgame considering they were shut out by the combined efforts of Miami starter Sandy Alcantra, who in the process of shutting out the Angels became the Marlins' all-time leader in innings pitched, and the Marlins bullpen. The Angels managed just five hits the whole game and while they had opportunities in front of them, finished the game 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base, continuing a worrying trend of the Angels being unable to capitalize with runners on.

Olympic weightlifter hoists debris for Venezuela earthquake recovery
Two people stand atop the debris of a building destroyed by the June 24 earthquakes in Caraballeda, Venezuela, on July 17, 2026 (Raul ARBOLEDA)Venezuelan Olympic weightlifting silver medalist Julio Mayora hoisted 151 kilograms (330 pounds) to win two gold medals this weekend at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. Not so long ago, he was using his superhuman strength to lift up concrete blocks to rescue victims from the double earthquakes that devastated his home country.Mayora hails from La Guaira, the northern coastal Venezuelan state that was hit hardest by the June 24 double earthquakes, with respective magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale. The powerful earthquakes killed over 6,000 people and reduced dozens of buildings to rubble -- including people and places known to Mayora. He dedicated his two gold medals to the victims of the earthquakes."In truth it broke my heart, to see so many friends buried under the rubble, and it's something that I never thought I'd live through," Mayora told AFP in an interview a day after his victories in the snatch and clean and jerk competitions. The day after the earthquakes, Mayora flexed his skills to carry beams, concrete blocks and other debris from collapsed buildings."We were helping out, clearing the debris to help people. It was my turn to help, there are videos of me on social media helping all those people, saving lives," he said.He recalled seeing "people crying shouting, desperate" amid the crisis. Not far from La Guaira is the capital Caracas, also hit by the earthquake, where fellow weightlifting Olympian Keydomar Vallenilla resides. While he did not have firsthand experience of the immediate aftermath of the earthquakes, he suffered losses that weigh on him as well."We had a kid from our gym, where I trained, lose his life," Vallenilla said."He seemed like he was going to be a future athlete in (weightlifting). He was going to be, I'm one hundred percent sure, a great athlete. A great guy."- 'Lost everything' -Like his compatriot, Vallenilla also claimed a gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games, motivated by a goal of "setting an example" for thousands of Venezuelans to keep moving forward despite the tragedy."We are athletes, we are an example of what the Venezuelan people are: a determined people who will always go out and give it their all and make the country proud," he told AFP. Government data from the earthquakes say more than 40,000 homes were damaged, leaving thousands of Venezuelans homeless. "There are people who truly lost everything," the weightlifting champion said. "I only hope that this kind of joy can reach their hearts so they can havve a little something to smile about amidst all the bad things that have happened," Vallenilla added. "This medal is as much mine as it is for them and the country," he said. In the same vein, Mayora promised his family would do everything they could to bring some joy to La Guaira. "These two medals are for the state of La Guaira, with much love for them," he said. The two weightlifting champions, who both received silver medals during the 2020 Tokyo Games, now have their sights set on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles."I always hold my Venezuela in the highest regard...I have this faith and this strength that, in the name of God, we will make a great showing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and gov for that gold medal," Mayora said.str-bc/lp/ag/jgc/sla

Another Texas A&M slugger wastes no time hitting first MiLB home run
The 2023 Texas A&M baseball signing class was loaded with star power, but amid the headliners, one player quietly developed into one of the SEC’s most dangerous hitters, and he’s already making noise in the minor leagues.Caden Sorrell never lacked talent, but sharing a class with Gavin Grahovac and joining a roster that already featured Jace LaViolette meant he initially flew under the radar. That changed quickly. Sorrell worked his way into the starting lineup as a freshman and earned Freshman All‑SEC honors. His sophomore season was derailed by injuries, limiting him to just 26 games, but his response in 2026 was emphatic.Sorrell delivered a breakout campaign, slashing .341/.434/.743 with 77 hits, 23 home runs, and 67 RBI. By the end of his three‑year career, he ranked top‑five in program history with 46 home runs and totaled 158 hits, 151 RBI, and a 1.094 OPS. Numbers that made his selection at No. 62 overall in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs feel inevitable. Now, just three games into his professional career with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Sorrell looks exactly like the hitter Aggies fans watched mature in College Station. Through his first few games, he’s slashing .364/.417/1.053, a small sample size but an early sign that his power and approach translate cleanly to pro ball. And like his former Aggie teammates, it didn’t take long for him to notch his first major milestone.Below, you can watch the first home run of his minor‑league career.CADEN SORRELL CRUSHES #1 💣 pic.twitter.com/jQWJvxNYyy— Myrtle Beach Pelicans (@Pelicanbaseball) August 8, 2026Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. UFC veteran suffers brutal knockout in 35 seconds in final UFC fight
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - AUGUST 08: Yadier del Valle of Cuba knocks out Darren Elkins in a featherweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Meta APEX on August 08, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Yadier del Valle spoiled Darren Elkins’ retirement at UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday after connecting with a brutal left hand that ended their fight just 35 seconds into the opening round. After fending off a kick but coming up short on a takedown, Elkins was already dealing with immense pressure from del Valle. The end came just seconds later when del Valle uncorked a hellacious left hand that sent Elkins crashing to the canvas in a heap.A few more strikes were landed on the ground but the referee quickly rushed in to rescue Elkins from further harm with del Valle getting the first-round finish.LEFT HAND LANDS CLEAN FOR YADIER DEL VALLE FOR THE R1 TKO 😤[ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/uD9udoGmpk— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026“Please for everyone a round of applause for Darren Elkins,” del Valle said after his win. “This was one of the hardest camps I’ve had. This is the first thing. So I was ready for this.”While certainly not the ending he wanted, Elkins already vowed that Saturday night would be the final fight of his career — win, lose or draw.Throughout his career, Elkins displayed heart and durability like few ever have in the sport and his willingness to step through the fire in every single fight absolutely defined his career.“Gratitude,” Elkins said about how he was feeling after laying his gloves down in the octagon. “I didn’t love how this ended but that’s life. I’m going to keep going. I can’t lose in life. I’m happy.“This has been a journey. Almost 17 years. I never thought I’d still be doing it at 42 years old. I always left in the cage. Sometimes it didn’t go my way but keep going.”Elkins retires with a 29-13 record including a record for the most bouts in UFC featherweight history with 29 including four post-fight bonuses and the second most wins in the history of the 145-pound division with 18.

Jac Caglianone powers Royals to a victory
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - AUGUST 08: Jac Caglianone #14 of the Kansas City Royals hits a home run in the first inning against the Chicago Cubs at Kauffman Stadium on August 08, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Amy Kontras/Amy Kontras/Getty Images) | Amy Kontras/Getty Images Jac Caglianone was the first Royal to get 12 or more total bases in a game since Lorenzo Cain had his three-home run game against the Yankees on May 10, 2016 and the Royals won 6-3. It was also the first time a Royal had hit four extra-base hits in a game since Kendrys Morales’ three-home run, one triple game on September 20, 2015 against the Tigers. All four balls were hit at 104.9 MPH or harder; he had the three hardest-hit balls in the game on either team.Let’s talk about the pitching really quick so we can celebrate Jac’s terrific night some more. Seth Lugo’s control was much better tonight, he only walked 1 and struck out 5 while allowing 3 runs in 6 innings for a definitional quality start. John Schreiber got the seventh and worked around a pair of two-out walks to escape with what was then a one-run lead intact. He also struck out a pair. Steven Cruz got the eighth because it was the middle of the Cubs’ order and worked around a two-out double for a scoreless inning including a strikeout. Nate Pearson got his first opportunity at a save since joining the Royals and worked around a leadoff double to get the job done. He even struck out Pete Crow-Armstrong to finish things, his second of the inning.Jac Caglianone got things started early and impressively, giving the Royals a first inning lead:That was Jac’s longest home run so far this year at 448 feet. In the bottom of the second, Michael Massey led off with a single and John Rave walked to put runners at first and second with no outs. Nick Loftin sacrifice bunted, which is a ridiculous thing to do in the second inning, but it ended up paying off when Josh Rojas singled them both home.In the bottom of the third, Bobby Witt Jr. reached base on an infield single to Alex Bregman right before Jac Caglianone ripped a sweeper down into the right field corner for an RBI double. Clay Holmes finally had a scoreless fourth, but by then the Royals had thoroughly ruined is Cubs debut and Colin Rea came in to pitch the remainder of the game.Jac Caglianone added a double off the top of the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth but couldn’t score. As noted, Lugo gave up three runs over the course of the game, so we entered the bottom of the seventh with the Royals clinging to a 4-3 lead despite an inning from the leaky bullpen. Carter Jensen got a leadoff walk and Jac Caglianone came through again. The bullpen ultimately didn’t allow any runs, but it sure felt a lot better in the eighth and ninth with those insurance runs protecting the lead.Let’s not ignore Bobby Witt Jr’s ridiculous defensive play in all the Jac hype, though:When Bobby and Jac are both going good, you almost don’t need anyone else in the lineup. The wins and losses don’t matter at this point in the season, but wins are always more fun and watching the young studs do impressive things only makes it better. The Royals will try to win the series tomorrow afternoon. Randy Dobnak (1.16 ERA, 5.16 SIERA) will face off against Matthew Boyd (3.49 ERA, 4.09 SIERA). The game, as ever, will be aired on Royals.TV. It would be pretty fun if the Royals could take 2 out of 3 from the Cubs after Chicago went hard into the deadline and the Royals seemed to sleep in.

Seahawks stadium Fan Fest: Emmanwori stretches, Hall’s truck, Price still out
Their top rookie wasn’t practicing again.Their Super Bowl-champion threw an interception, which in his sterling training camp is semi-news.Nick Emmanwori did the smallest bit of stretching with his teammates before he watched them practice again. Fellow safety D’Anthony Bell and their coaches joked with Emmanwori and slapped him warmly on his back. It was the next, incremental step in the dynamic safety/linebacker’s return to Mike Macdonald’s top-ranked defense from arthroscopic ankle surgery last month. Emmanwori remains what the team has thought all along: on track to play in the opener in four weeks. And a player who had his worst football day in this event almost a year to the day showed he is all the way back. The Seahawks’ annual fan-fest, training-camp practice at Lumen Field Saturday evening was the second straight practice rookie first-round draft choice Jadarian Price missed. He was in team sweats walking out as the champs took the field to the crowd’s cheers to begin drills. A team spokesman said the running back has “lower-body soreness,” per a team spokesman.Coincidentally, departed (to Kansas City) Kenneth Walker, the lead back the Seahawks drafted Price 32nd overall this spring to replace, missed this fan fest last summer with what the team also called “soreness.” That was part of Macdonald’s staff pacing Walker through the summer following a high-ankle sprain from the winter of 2024.The Seahawks were inside Lumen Field as a team for the first time since they were sipping from red Solo cups, chuggin’ Bud Lights, raising the Lombardi Trophy to roaring fans and getting on Army vehicles to parade through downtown Seattle to celebrate their Super Bowl victory in mid-February.Macdonald uses this Fan Fest practice at Lumen Field as a dress rehearsal for how game days go in the NFL regular season. The head coach scheduled the practice to begin at 5:15 p.m., because that’s about the time of the five primetime home games Seattle has this season on national television. The first one is the league’s kick-off game, Wednesday, Sept. 9, when the Seahawks get a Super Bowl 60 rematch with New England at Lumen Field.Macdonald had them go through a pregame timing and warmup schedule similar to in the real season.Derick Hall and his truckDerick Hall would have loved to have driven there. In his massive, beloved Dodge truck. The Seahawks re-signed Hall this offseason to a $42 million contract to extend him in Seattle beyond his rookie deal as the team’s second-round draft choice out of Auburn in 2023.Hall said he knew he could have played out the final season of his rookie contract and likely commanded more on the open market next spring. But he loves Seattle, loves Macdonald, loves the Seahawks’ brotherhood — and the fact he just won a Super Bowl with them.Macdonald loves Hall’s ability to take on double-team blocks and set the edge outside against the run game, as well as to cover receivers in pass coverage and pressure quarterbacks with his pass-rushing.So the Seahawks paid him $42 million, and let Boye Mafe leave in free agency to Cincinnati this offseason. The News Tribune asked Hall on KJR-FM radio what if any big purchases he made with his first monster NFL contract.“I’ve been into trucks, obviously. So I bought another truck, a sixth-gen(eration) Dodge. I’ve loved the Cummins (engines),” Hall said. The truck is massive. Hall installed air lifts in it to raise it many feet above the road. He can raise it, lower it, even lean it. He says he does that at stop lights, to amuse himself with the looks he gets from the drivers around him. It’s one of multiple Dodge trucks with Cummins engines Hall, 25, has and loves. The nation got to see Hall’s 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 in the first episode of NFL Films’ Hard Knocks series on the Seahawks training camp. It aired on HBO Tuesday.Lasting impression of first NFL Films #Seahawks training camp Hard Knocks episode that just aired on HBO:Derick Hall’s truck!!! pic.twitter.com/eGmkCOldfK— Gregg Bell (@gbellseattle) August 5, 2026The NFL Films camera on the parking lot of the Seahawks’ Virginia Mason Athletic Center in the opening seconds of that scene? Hall ran over it. Obliterated it with his giant tires. He couldn’t see it.“I did. I ran it over,” he said. “They were like, ‘D-Hall, did you feel something when you rolled in?’ I was like, ‘No.’ And they showed me the camera and it was just smashed.“I was like, ‘Dang, I apologize.’ But they were like, ‘No, it’s unique. It’s authentic.’“But I did smash a camera.”Delivery drivers to Hall’s place in the hills above Seahawks headquarters in Renton happen onto Hall working on his truck in the driveway. All the time.“I built that truck last offseason in my shop back in Mississippi,” the native of Gulfport, Mississippi, said. “It was brown with polish overlays. And I got up here and I tore it apart again.“You can go on YouTube and watch it on Derick Hall Truck Productions.“I was still hands-on. When we tore that truck apart, one of the first few trucks had that two-tone powder coat. So you have that base color, which is the teal. That process is pretty unique because you spray the whole thing teal, and then you let that bake. You take it out of the oven, and then you spray everything white, and then whatever you want to stay teal, you have to wipe that off. It’s a lot of detail going into that.”But wait, Hall wants to tell you more about his truck.“As far as driving, I drive it every day. I drive it over everything else. I drive every day. I love it,” he said. “I enjoy it. It’s just truly who I am. I have tons of these things. I love the trucks. I love the trucking lifestyle, so it’s truly who I am and I like to show people what I do outside of ball, and that’s just my life.“Being hands-on with it, I do it myself. I think that’s pretty unique.”AJ Finley is backA year ago at the same event, AJ Finley’s season was already over. The then-third-year safety tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in the team’s 2025 fan-fest practice. He missed all of last season, missed out of possibly being on the field in Super Bowl 60 in February.Saturday, Finley showed he’s all the way back. He intercepted Sam Darnold to end the first series of a simulated overtime session. It was off an out route by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, when the NFL offensive player of the year fell down coming out of his break. As is their custom, Finley’s defensive teammates ran with him to the end zone to complete the play. The crowd got a kick out of that, more than Darnold did.Devon Witherspoon vs Cooper Kupp, continuedA day after Cooper Kupp got the better of Devon Witherspoon one-on-one with a slant route and catch that left the Pro Bowl cornerback angry, Witherspoon got back at him.Kupp tried a similar, head fake then sharp slant move across Witherspoon in a goal-line, one-on-one drill Saturday. This time, Witherspoon denied Kupp’s cut. He broke up Darnold’s pass in the end zone.Sam Darnold throwing to Cooper Kupp and the rest of the #Seahawks WRs at the annual fan-fest practice at Lumen Field.@thenewstribunepic.twitter.com/VQI6Vv839f— Gregg Bell (@gbellseattle) August 9, 2026Montorie Foster Jr. shiningOhio high-school substitute teacher and real-estate agent Montorie Foster Jr. continued his excellent week at wide receiver. Again this summer it is one of Seattle’s most competitive and crowded position groups for roster spots. He’s been so good, Foster is starting to get some reps with the first-team offense.Later in Saturday’s goal-line, one-on-one scrimmage, Foster dived Superman-like at the back, right corner of the end zone to reach a pass long from Darnold. Foster tapped the ball to himself with his right arm extended, then kept both feet inside the back line of the end zone for a wowing touchdown. In the middle of the field in an 11-on-11 scrimmage, Foster made a double move with a head-and-shoulder fake. It left rookie cornerback Andre Fuller falling down 5 yards behind him as Foster made the catch and run in open field.Foster later scored a touchdown by ripping a pass by Drew Lock away from the defensive back along the left sideline.Running back signedZach Charbonnet on the physically-unable-to-perform list following reconstructive knee surgery in February, Price out, plus an injury that’s sidelined Jacardia Wright all week and Robbie Ouzts ongoing absence and uncertain status have thinned the Seahawks’ running-back depth.Saturday the team signed Justin Jones, an undrafted rookie out of Auburn. Jones was in Seattle’s rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player. Jones only had 16 carries over four seasons at Auburn, 11 of those last college season. He excelled at special teams. The running backs with the first-team offense Saturday evening: George Holani, Emanuel Wilson and Velus Jones Jr.The Seahawks waived linebacker Power Echols, whom they’d signed only days ago.Under the logo, what the #Seahawks will be unveiling here at Lumen Field Sept. 9 at the opening game vs New England, to match the 2013 Super Bowl champions banner in the stadium rafters immediately to its left. pic.twitter.com/sxIzJmddWr— Gregg Bell (@gbellseattle) August 9, 2026Extra points*Smith-Njigba’s daily brilliant play was in the one-on-one drill. He ran past starting cornerback Josh Jobe then used his unique body control to keep Jobe away from Darnold’s incoming pass for a touchdown in the back, left corner of the end zone.*Jobe answered with a breakup of Darnold’s pass into the same area of the end zone to Kupp. Jobe bodied Kupp into the left sideline boundary and forced the 33-year-old wide receiver to juggle the ball for an incompletion out of bounds.*Tight end Elijah Arroyo, the team’s second-round pick last year, continued his standout camp. In the one-on-one drill at the goal line he bulled into the chest of rookie safety Bud Clark, then deftly drifted away from the second-round pick to the left side of the end zone for a touchdown catch. Arroyo later beat Clark with a smooth cut on a deep in route for another catch.Arroyo’s best play was when he made a cut and move past Pro Bowl veteran safety Julian Love for a touchdown catch from Darnold in 11 on 11.

The Buffalo Bills held a landmark occasion in Orchard Park on Saturday. It was the first time football took place at the team's new Highmark Stadium. After years of planning and construction, the team finally welcomed fans into the new venue for the annual "Red and Blue" practice. Parts of the session were standard drills the team usually runs at training camp. Joe Brady's coaching staff did still find time for some team activities so the players could put on a show for Bills Mafia. How did some of the first sights and sounds look at the team's new home? Jac Caglianone powers the Royals past Chicago 6-3 as Clay Holmes makes a shaky debut for the Cubs
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals made Clay Holmes' debut with the Chicago Cubs a forgettable affair Saturday night, hammering him for four runs in his return from the injured list, while Jac Calgianone helped to power Kansas City to a 6-3 victory.Caglianone hit two homers, two doubles and finished with four RBIs for the Royals. Josh Rojas also had a pair of RBIs.Seth Lugo (5-7) out-shined Holmes with his eight-pitch repertoire, which included a looping 65 mph curve that fanned MVP candidate Pete Crow-Armstrong. Lugo wound up allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings, striking out five.Nate Pearson handled the ninth against his former team to pick up his second save of the season.Holmes (4-5) last started a big league game May 15, when he was still with the Mets, and a 111 mph liner from the Yankees’ Spencer Jones fractured his right fibula. He was in the midst of making rehab starts when the Cubs traded for him earlier this week.Holmes needed 70 pitches to go four innings, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out one.Caglianone gave the Royals to a 1-0 lead with his first-inning homer, a shot to right-center that went an estimated 448 feet. Rojas added a two-run single in the second, after a sacrifice bunt by Nick Loftin had advanced the runners, and Caglianone's double in the third was enough to score Bobby Witt Jr. from first base and make it 4-0.Carson Kelly halved the lead with a two-out double in the fourth, and Ian Happ's two-out homer made it 4-3 in the sixth. But the Cubs squandered a chance when the Royals' John Schreiber struck out Seiya Suzuki with two aboard in the seventh.Caglianone added his second homer in the bottom half of the inning to give the Royals some breathing room.Up nextLHP Matthew Boyd (7-1, 3.59) tries to win his eighth consecutive decision Sunday when he takes the mound for the Cubs in the series finale. RHP Randy Dobnak (2-0, 1.16) tries to continue his resurgence when he makes the start for Kansas City.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Jamal Musiala talks through evolution of roles for club and country
GILLETTE STADIUM, FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS, UNITED STATES - 2026/06/29: Jamal Musiala of Germany in action during the FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 32 football match between Germany and Paraguay. Paraguay won 4-3 on penalties over Germany after a 1-1 tie after extra time. (Photo by Nicolò Campo/LightRocket via Getty Images) | LightRocket via Getty Images It is easy to forget how close the fight between England and Germany was for Jamal Musiala, with the talented Bayern Munich breakout star eventually deciding on Germany. He took his role of exciting young talent into the 2021 European Championship and 2022 World Cup, but that role has evolved by 2026. Musiala now has the #10 for Germany and nears his mid-20s. Despite coming off of a big injury, he is one of the faces of the Germany team. This conflict was brought up to Musiala by Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), who queried Musiala on shedding his old one as exciting dribbler for his new role.“Of course I still enjoy dribbling, and I’m getting a better feeling for it all the time. But you can’t forget that coming back from an injury takes time,” Musiala cautioned. “The more minutes and matches I play, the better I feel. Getting on the ball again brings me joy. But it’s also true that my responsibilities for the team have increased. I take more responsibility for our attacking play and contribute more defensively as well. Winning the ball back can be fun as well.”Moving into the new era with Jürgen Klopp now at the helm will require Musiala to evolve further. Can he become the difference maker for the country that so many had been hoping for five years ago?Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

Cardinals OF Jordan Walker finally goes deep with first home run since winning Derby
St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday night against the Colorado Rockies. While Walker hit 22 home runs in the first half of the season, he had been without a home run since the All-Star break. To make the slump even worse, it came on the heels of his winning the 2026 Home Run Derby in impressive fashion. The outfielder found himself in the finals of the derby against Kyle Schwarber, who was competing in front of his hometown Philadelphia Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park. Schwarber was up first in the final round and hit 11 home runs on 16 swings, putting the pressure on Walker. The 24-year-old needed to hit six home runs in a row to win the tournament. He hit three to put himself into the bonus, and then hit three more home runs to clinch the impromptu win. JORDAN WALKER WALKS IT OFF IN THE @TMOBILE#HRDERBY FINALS! pic.twitter.com/tTbJvWwW78— MLB (@MLB) July 14, 2026Then the slump hit. Heading into Saturday’s game, Walker had gone 19 games without a home run. He was still hitting well, hitting .368 so far in the month of August, but with none of his seven hits so far leaving the park. That changed Saturday night. St. Louis was down 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Walker came up with the bases empty and one out in the inning. He sent a 79-mph changeup an estimated 432 ft. into the seats in left-center field. While the home run is sure to give Walker a boost, or at least one less thing to mentally be worried about at the plate, it was not enough to inspire a St. Louis comeback. The Cardinals lost 8-6 and fell to 58-59 on the year, just below .500. St. Louis is in third place in the NL Central, but 15 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jamal Adams switches from No. 54 to No. 32
When veteran defender Jamal Adams joined the Vikings, the team assigned him a traditional linebacker number: 54. He recently switched to 32.And while he's still officially listed in the team's online roster as a linebacker, the change means Adams will be playing plenty of safety — his original NFL position.Adams anticipates being deployed at both positions."I was telling some people inside the training room, just to have somebody believe in me again, and to know I can go back there and play the safety position, it feels great," Adams said, via Lindsey Young of Vikings.com. "I can kind of do it all in the back end. I just want to be versatile and do anything I can to help the team."The key is winning. So whatever they need me to do, I'm going to do. That's what I'm here for."Adams reiterated prior comments regarding the long road back to full health after tearing a quad tendon in Week 1 of the 2022 season."When I got hurt in '22, and then . . . those two or three years, I felt like I lost a little bit off my career," Adams said. "So for me, it's like a rebirth. There was a lot of adversity I went through, and I knew eventually I was going to make it out of that hole, but it was going to take time — and it took longer than I expected. But mentally and physically, I had to rebrand myself, be better on and off the field as far as my mentals and how I approached the game."I have a different perspective. It's a different perspective on not only football but just life. Just being grateful and being happy where I am. Being where my feet are and just embracing the opportunity."Adams's versatility fits perfectly with the Brian Flores defense, which uses chaos and unpredictability to rattle nerves and create mismatches. Adams could end up being a key piece of the Minnesota attack.

Pentagon pushes defense companies to boost weapons production after concerns of depleted stocks
A Patriot missile mobile launcher is displayed outside the Fort Sill Army Post near Lawton, Okla., on March 21, 2023. (AP Photo/Sean Murphy, File)2026-08-09T02:00:37Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon is pressing the U.S. defense industry to accelerate production of weapons to help replenish its diminished stockpile of munitions, including those depleted in the ongoing war with Iran.Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement Saturday that the department was actively focused on boosting munitions acquisitions to provide “the weapons our warfighters need at the pace the threat demands.” He confirmed department efforts in the last week to significantly speed the process but insisted it was part of a broader modernization effort that predated the five-month-old conflict.Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg wrote to industry leaders on Wednesday, giving them no more than 21 days to submit plans to “drive significantly faster, more aggressive delivery schedules and/or increased production for critical capabilities,” according to a memo obtained by The Washington Post. “Years-long development cycles are not acceptable,” Feinberg wrote. “We must dramatically accelerate our program schedules and expand our production capacity now.”The memo comes as recent fighting with Iran used up more of the U.S. military’s already diminished stockpiles of advanced missile interceptors, potentially putting American troops at more risk if hostilities resume, according to a new analysis.Shrunken inventories of Patriot and THAAD interceptors may force the U.S. and its Middle Eastern allies to take more risks to conserve those air defenses, according to the analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank. For example, it said, American forces may launch fewer missiles against incoming Iranian drones and missiles, raising the chance of one getting through. President Donald Trump in recent days has bristled over public reports of a munitions shortage, posting on Truth Social on Thursday that the U.S. has “massive amounts.” He added that “large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed.” Read More On Saturday, Parnell affirmed that Feinberg’s memo seeking a rapid escalation of weapons production is “real,” adding that it “will inform the fiscal year 2028 budget submitted to Congress for funding, and it is entirely consistent with our ongoing push to rebuild the defense industrial base.” A defense spending bill is currently stalled in Congress, with lawmakers fuming over Trump’s military action against Iran and resisting the White House request to substantially increase Pentagon spending to $1.5 trillion, up from about $900 billion last year. The number of Patriot interceptors fell from 2,330 before the war to 1,030 when the April ceasefire took effect, CSIS estimated last month. Following recent fighting, the stockpile is now estimated to be between 759 and 827, a decrease of at least 65% since before the conflict began. The number of THAAD interceptors fell from 452 before the war to between 232 and 262 at the start of the April ceasefire, CSIS said. The U.S. was able to replenish some of the inventory to between 234 and 278 interceptors. But the stockpile is still at least 38% smaller than it was before the conflict.

A Tibetan cooperative keeps a centuries-old weaving tradition alive
Workers weave Pulu, a traditional wooden fabric into clothing, at wooden looms near statues of Princess Wencheng and Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo at the Ethnic Huaji Handwoven Cooperative in Shannan in western China's Tibet Autonomous Region on July 23, 2026, as seen during a government organized visit for foreign journalists. (AP Photo/Ng Han Guan)2026-08-09T02:23:11Z SHANNAN, Tibet (AP) — More than a dozen men and women sit at wooden looms, sliding shuttles through rows of wool yarn before pulling each thread tight. They repeat it again and again as they weave Pulu, the traditional woolen fabric that has clothed people on the Tibetan plateau for centuries. They work at the Ethnic Huaji Handwoven Cooperative in Shannan, where artisans are trying to preserve one of Tibet’s oldest weaving traditions while creating jobs for local residents.Founded in 2008 by Tibetan artisan Pasang, the cooperative employs more than 100 local residents, including some people with disabilities, while teaching younger Tibetans a craft that he feared was disappearing. The cooperative specializes in Zeter, a finer variety of Pulu made from especially soft wool from the necks and backs of sheep. He said the finer wool makes the yarn more difficult to spin than that used for ordinary Pulu. Pasang said that because Zeter is lighter, softer and more delicate than ordinary Pulu, it was presented as a tribute from Tibet to the Chinese imperial court during the Ming dynasty.Pasang said he learned the craft from his parents at a time when fewer than 10 people still knew how to weave Zeter. He added that the craft has been recognized as part of China’s national intangible cultural heritage, and that he hopes younger generations will continue practicing it. The wool comes from sheep raised around Shannan, about 3,700 meters (12,100 feet) above sea level. Read More Statues of Tibet’s 7th century King Songtsen Gampo and his Chinese bride, Princess Wencheng, stand at the center of the workshop, surrounded by wooden looms. According to local tradition, the weaving craft dates to when Princess Wencheng introduced weaving techniques to Tibet after marrying the king.In Chinese official history, their marriage symbolizes the historical ties between Tibet and China. “It integrated Tibetan and Chinese cultures,” Pasang said about the fabric’s history. The Associated Press joined a government-organized trip to Lhasa and Shannan last month, which included visits to the cooperative, palaces, Buddhist temples, tourist sites, an eldercare center and local businesses. Next to the workshop, a small showroom displays scarves, shawls, jackets, bags and other products made from Pulu and Zeter. Pasang said most sales are in Tibet, although customers also come from elsewhere in China. Sign up for Morning Wire: Our flagship newsletter breaks down the biggest headlines of the day. Tsering Yangchen has been working for seven years in the cooperative. The 80-year-old woman moved from another county and said she struggled to find work before joining the workshop, where instructors taught her and others how to weave. She said Pulu is more than just a product she weaves.“We usually wear them,” she added. “They are made from pure wool.”____Associated Press video producer Olivia Zhang contributed.

UFC Vegas 120 Highlights! Salkilld Shocks Gamrot With Early Submission
Quillan Salkilld leveled up last night (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) at UFC Vegas 120 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the revamped Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the rising contender put a dominant stop to lightweight veteran Mateusz Gamrot with a main event first-round submission (rear-naked choke). This was a big spot for both fighters, but especially Salkilld as this was his first UFC headliner. Many thought the 26-year-old Australian had the skills to keep climbing the lightweight ranks, but once Salkilld was pitted up against Gamrot things quickly became real. It was up to Salkilld to prove he’s got the chops to fight the best 155-pound fighters in the world.Salkilled did exactly that as he clipped Gamrot early into the first round with a short left hook. That forced Gamrot to quickly go to his wrestling and try to drag Salkilld to the ground. To Gamrot’s surprise, Salkilld showcased an impressive ground game as he reversed multiple positions and was able to get back to his feet.Moments later, it was Salkilld who changed levels and scored a takedown on Gamrot. It was a shock to Gamrot since he’s the one usually landing on top. Salkilld eventually work his way to Gamrot’s back and locked in the rear-naked choke. Gamrot fought for a few seconds before tapping out and handing Salkilld his sixth-straight UFC win.Check out the video highlights below:Quillan catching the chin early 👀[ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/lHGQWztbqY— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026AUSTRALIA, YOU HAVE ANOTHER CONTENDER 🦘Quillan Salkilld ends this one EARLY with a R1 submission![ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/5oEO85TJzU— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026Top 5 better watch out fast for Quillan Salkilld 👀[ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/UOMRFqsaos— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026He DOES NOT CARE where the fight goes ❌[ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/4ZgE9HukaW— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026For complete UFC Vegas 120 results, coverage, and highlights click HERE.

Quillan Salkilld snatches rear-naked choke to finish Mateusz Gamrot in first round in UFC Vegas 120 main event
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - AUGUST 08: (R-L) Quillan Salkilld of Australia looks for a submission against Mateusz Gamrot of Poland in a lightweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Meta APEX on August 08, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Quillan Salkilld has officially arrived as a serious contender at lightweight following his victory over Mateusz Gamrot in the UFC Vegas 120 main event.Undefeated thus far in his UFC career, Salkilld was supposed to face his toughest test to date on Saturday but outside of a leg lock attempt from Gamrot early in the opening round, the Australian had his way with the veteran top-10 fighter. After battering Gamrot on the feet, Salkilld decided to show off his ground game after scoring a perfectly timed takedown and then eventually transitioning to take the back. That’s where Salkilld locked up the rear-naked choke with Gamrot tapping out to end the fight at 4:25 in the opening round.AUSTRALIA, YOU HAVE ANOTHER CONTENDER 🦘Quillan Salkilld ends this one EARLY with a R1 submission![ #UFCVegas120 | LIVE on @ParamountPlus ] pic.twitter.com/5oEO85TJzU— UFC on Paramount+ (@UFConParamount) August 9, 2026That extended Salkilld’s overall win streak to 13 in a row including six straight wins in the UFC.“That feels f*cking good,” Salkilld said after the win. “I just proved I’m the real f*cking deal. That’s just how I fight. I want to take it to you where you think you’re safe. I want to use all the weapons I have available in the arsenal. I believe I can get it done with the first minute or the last minute.”A slick jab from Salkilld was immediately connecting and Gamrot was stuck playing defense on the feet. Another straight punch from Salkilld rocked Gamrot and forced him to dive for a leg trying for the takedown.Salkilld countered quickly but he couldn’t quite break Gamrot’s grip as the Polish lightweight dove for an ankle lock on the ground. Salkilld eventually broke free and he immediately began dishing out punishment on the feet again.Salkilld eventually went for a takedown of his own to surprise Gamrot as he sought to take the back and look for a submission of his own. Gamrot defended well but he was still stuck with Salkilld on his back, searching for the rear-naked choke. The choke wasn’t directly under the chin but the pressure was so immense that Gamrot had no choice but to tap out as Salkilld scored another impressive victory as he continues climbing up the lightweight ranks. Many of the top fighters at 155 pounds are already booked or fought just recently so it’s tough to say who Salkilld might get next but he appears ready for the best of the best from the division whenever he competes again.“I don’t give a f*ck,” Salkilld responded when asked who he wants next. “As long as it’s in the top five. I think I deserve someone in the top five or close to it.”

WNBA commissioner stresses integrity, respect on topic of transgender athletes in league-wide memo
In a memo sent to team presidents, general managers and coaches Friday, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert advised the league’s leaders on their approach to the topic of transgender participation in women’s sports. The commissioner stressed approaching it with integrity and respect, without specifically defining the league’s stance. The issue has dominated conversation around the WNBA in the wake of Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham’s recent comments in favor of excluding trans athletes from women’s sports.Engelbert listed three guiding principles for the league in the discussion but did not clarify whether or not trans athletes are allowed to play in the WNBA.“First, we will always approach this topic thoughtfully, respectfully, and in alignment with the long-standing values of our league,” she wrote in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by The Athletic. “Second, our player eligibility rules, unlike the eligibility rules of some other leagues and governing bodies, are collectively bargained. Lastly, preserving the integrity of our game and ensuring fair competition will always remain among the league’s highest priorities.”There is no mention of trans athletes in the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement, although the document does state that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA.”Engelbert wrote in the memo that the league has a previously scheduled meeting of a task force of presidents and GMs in the coming week that will address this conversation and other league issues. In the wake of Cunningham’s comments and the subsequent rallies that have followed the Indiana Fever at road games, the commissioner acknowledged that she expects “this topic will continue to receive significant attention.” She praised team leadership for their response to increasing questions and invited them to continue reaching out to her with questions and perspectives.Coaches around the league have frequently been asked about the issue since Cunningham first told ESPN she wants to “protect young girls in a locker room” and that “they shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”Cheryl Reeve has been the loudest voice in favor of inclusion of transgender kids in particular. Golden State Valkyries All-Star Gabby Williams welcomed transgender athletes joining the WNBA, while the Women’s National Basketball Players Association released a statement denouncing “hate, abuse, and demonization” of the transgender community. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.WNBA2026 The Athletic Media Company

Tigers right-hander Jackson Jobe dazzles in first big league outing since Tommy John surgery
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Detroit Tigers right-hander Jackson Jobe had some nerves and some good stuff in his first big league outing in more than 14 months.Returning to the majors after having Tommy John surgery last year, Jobe uncorked a 100-mph fastball on a 3-2 pitch past to strike out San Francisco leadoff hitter Bryce Eldridge on Saturday. That was the first of four strikeouts for Jobe, who limited the Giants to one hit in five shutout innings as Detroit rolled to an 8-0 victory. The 24-year-old Jobe had made four rehab starts in the minors over the past month, and his performance Saturday was particularly gratifying.“I had some good nerves,” Jobe said. “I was just excited to come in (and) show everyone what the past 14 months were for and how hard I worked. Yeah, it’s a good feeling.”The Tigers’ first-round pick, third overall, in 2021, Jobe hadn’t pitched in the majors since a start against the Giants in a 4-3 win in Detroit on May 28, 2025.On Saturday, he allowed only one walk (to Drew Cavanaugh in the third) and a single by Willy Adames with one out in the fourth. Jobe threw 71 pitches, 46 for strikes.Detroit manager A.J. Hinch was pleased with what he saw.“Almost a perfect outing when it comes to what we were trying to accomplish,” Hinch said. “It was a big step for him to get back to this level. He had electrifying stuff.”Jobe went 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA as a rookie last year. He believes he has used his rehabilitation period to improve in multiple ways.“I do feel very different,” Jobe said. “I’m definitely stronger physically. Mentally, I feel sharper, just more of a mature pitcher. “And then I’ve just cleaned up my throw a bit. I made some minor tweaks that are going to help a lot.”After his outing, Jobe received a big compliment from Detroit pitching coach Chris Fetter.Jobe said that Fetter told him, “That’s the best he’s ever seen me look.”___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Diego Rossi helps Monterrey to 2-1 Leagues Cup win over Messi-less Inter Miami
MIAMI (AP) — Diego Rossi scored the go-ahead goal in the 90th minute to help Monterrey to a 2-1 win over Inter Miami, which played without Lionel Messi, in the group stage of the Leagues Cup on Saturday night.Messi returned to his native Argentina following the death of his father, Jorge, earlier in the day. It is not known when the 39-year-old star forward will return to the club. The 39-year-old Messi took a two-week break after leading Argentina to a runner-up World Cup finish. He made his first appearance as a reserve when Inter Miami tied Columbus 2-2 in an MLS match Aug. 1. Messi then had two goals and an assist in Inter Miami’s first Leagues Cup match – a 4-2 win against Atletico San Luis on Wednesday.Miami (1-1-0, 3 points) won the 2023 Leagues Cup and reached the final last year, but its chances of advancing to the knockout stage appear bleak with one match remaining in its 18-team group. The strike by Rossi, who was acquired July 3 from the Columbus Crew, capped a two-goal second half for Monterrey (1-1-0, 3 points). Rossi won the 2022 MLS Golden Boot for Los Angeles FC and he helped Columbus to titles in the 2023 MLS Cup and 2024 Leagues Cup. Monterrey erased a 1-0 halftime deficit on Hugo Cuypers’ equalizer in the 47th minute. Cuypers was an 2026 MLS All-Star and scored 13 goals in 11 games this season for the Chicago Fire before his transfer to Monterrey on July 23. Rodrigo De Paul put Inter Miami on the board with a strike from 25 yards that landed inside the left post in the 32nd minute. As he celebrated the goal, De Paul temporarily removed his No. 7 jersey to reveal Messi’s No. 10 in support of his national team and club teammate, which resulted in a yellow card. Monterrey defender Carlos Salcedo went off due to an injury in the 15th minute and was replaced by Jorge Rodríguez. Both clubs conclude the group phase on Wednesday. Miami will host León while Monterrey will visit Nashville.___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer

Austin Reaves talks trash ahead of Luka Doncic's minicamp
Later this month, members of the Los Angeles Lakers will head to Slovenia to take part in a four-day minicamp that is being held there by Luka Doncic. It will be an opportunity for these players, especially the many new ones, to build chemistry and camaraderie ahead of the official start of training camp several weeks from now.The Lakers are now fully centered around Doncic and Austin Reaves, and the two have developed a legitimate friendship with each other. Reaves has been in China on a tour with Rigorer, the company he has a signature sneaker with, and he was asked about that upcoming minicamp. He responded by trash-talking Doncic a little.“I’m going to feel great. I’m gonna kick his [expletive] in golf. That’ll be a lot of fun. But it’ll just be good to get around everybody. We got a fairly new team, a lot of new guys, so it’ll just be good to be around them, get to know one another off the court and just build that chemistry there.”Just about everyone knows that Reaves is a huge fan of golf and that he plays the game quite often. He recently took part in the American Century Championship, an annual celebrity golf tournament, and he finished in a tie for 16th along with NFL wide receiver Adam Thielen.Doncic has also picked up golf, but it is pretty safe to say that he isn't as avid a golfer as Reaves is.Still, this coming season will be a big one for Reaves. With LeBron James gone, he will have to carry the Lakers offensively a little more, and it seems like he will be up to the task. He averaged 23.3 points and 5.5 assists a game last season, and he was seemingly on his way to his first All-Star berth before he suffered a gastrocnemius strain in late December. When James missed the first 14 games of the schedule with sciatica, Reaves put up 28.3 points and 8.2 assists a contest. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Austin Reaves talks trash ahead of Luka Doncic's minicamp

Atlanta banking on Bates-Watts tandem to spark more takeaways in 2026
Atlanta banking on Bates-Watts tandem to spark more takeaways in 2026 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Falcons believe they have one of the NFL’s premier safety tandems, and veteran linebacker Divine Deablo isn’t shy about saying it.Speaking during training camp, Deablo praised the pairing of Jessie Bates III and rising star Xavier Watts, calling them the best safety duo in football. It’s a bold statement, but one the Falcons hope will prove true as they enter the 2026 season with one of the league’s most talented defenses.Bates has already established himself as one of the NFL’s elite defensive backs. Since arriving in Atlanta, he has consistently been the leader of the secondary, combining outstanding instincts with the ability to create game-changing turnovers. The excitement, however, continues to grow around Watts. The former Notre Dame All-American has impressed coaches and teammates throughout the offseason with his range, football IQ, and ability to make plays on the ball. If his development continues on its current trajectory, Atlanta could indeed boast the most complete safety tandem in the NFL.That possibility becomes even more important when looking back at last season’s numbers.Falcons see elite potential in Bates-Watts safety combinationDespite fielding one of the league’s more talented secondaries, the Falcons struggled to consistently take the football away. Atlanta finished the 2025 campaign with just 16 interceptions, a total that fell well below expectations for a defense loaded with talent in the back end.Creating turnovers has become a major emphasis throughout training camp.Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has repeatedly stressed the importance of turning tight coverage into takeaways, knowing that interceptions can dramatically change the outcome of games. With Bates serving as the veteran leader and Watts emerging as one of the NFL’s promising young safeties, the Falcons believe those numbers will improve significantly. If Deablo’s confidence proves accurate, Atlanta won’t just have one of the league’s best safety duos—they’ll have a defense capable of creating the splash plays needed to compete deep into January.More NFL news:Ben Johnson responds to Liam Coen’s pointed Caleb Williams commentLamar Jackson is already predicted to be a Hall of Fame QB for Ravens per ESPNEagles' Jalen Hurts 'shouldn't have trouble' reaching Hall of Fame if he can continue to have playoff successPackers edge Micah Parsons already predicted to be on cusp of Hall of FameWhy Sheduer Sanders vs. Deshaun Watson QB competition is taking so long for Browns

Ohtani's RBI infield single in the 10th helps Dodgers snap 7-game skid, beat D-backs 2-1
PHOENIX (AP) — Shohei Ohtani brought home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning on an infield single and the Los Angeles Dodgers snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Saturday night. The Dodgers won despite Edwin Diaz blowing his second consecutive save after losing a 1-0 lead in the ninth.Los Angeles rallied with two outs in the 10th when Hunter Feduccia walked and automatic runner Kyle Tucker moved to third on a wild pitch. Ohtani followed with a grounder to the right side that first baseman Tim Tawa dove to knock down, but couldn't recover to make an out.Jack Dreyer earned his first save of the season, retiring the final two outs by fielding a comebacker from Ryan Waldschmidt and starting a double play. The D-backs trailed 1-0 entering the ninth, but Geraldo Perdomo and Corbin Carroll connected for back-to-back triples off closer Diaz to tie it. Diaz recovered to retire the next three batters, stranding Carroll at third to send the game to extra innings.L.A.'s Kyle Tucker hit a solo homer to break a scoreless tie in the eighth, driving the second pitch he saw from reliever Jonathan Loáisiga over the right-field wall.Arizona left 15 runners on base.Arizona's Brandon Pfaadt and Los Angeles' Yoshinobu Yamamoto were locked in an impressive pitcher's duel for most of the evening, with both right-handers breezing through the opposing lineup.Pfaadt made it through seven innings, giving up just two hits and two walks while striking out two. He has a 1.32 ERA over eight starts since returning from Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks managed to drive up Yamamoto's pitch count into the 80s by the sixth inning, which started with a Gabriel Moreno single and Ketel Marte walk. Yamamoto retired the next two batters, but then was then replaced by Evan Phillips after throwing 107 pitches.Yamamoto gave up three walks and three hits while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings.Up nextDiamondbacks LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (10-4, 2.71 ERA) was set to pitch Sunday vs. Dodgers LHP Justin Wrobleski (11-3, 3.31).___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Dodgers need extra innings to snap their seven-game losing streak
PHOENIX, AZ - AUGUST 08: Kyle Tucker #23 of the Los Angeles Dodgers hits a solo home run in the eighth inning during the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Saturday, August 8, 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Brendon Baranov/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images The Dodgers are finally back in the win column, as they came away with a 2-1, 10-inning win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. It was another dormant showing from the Dodgers offense, as Brandon Pfaadt worked around a one-out walk from Andy Pages in the top of the first by getting a ground ball double play from Freddie Freeman. The Dodgers would go down quietly until the top of the fourth inning, when Pages singled to reach base for the second time. Freddie Freeman lined out to third with Pages on the move, and the center fielder was doubled up at first. Pfaadt would retire the next six hitters in order, facing the minimum over six shutout innings while tossing 74 pitches. As for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, he worked around a pair of two-out baserunners in the bottom of the first inning by getting his former WBC teammate Lars Nootbaar to ground out. Yamamoto allowed just one walk over his next three innings, but Arizona would threaten with two men on with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Yamamoto froze Geraldo Perdomo for the second out before Corbin Carroll met a similar fate to get the Dodgers out of trouble. Both Gabriel Moreno and Ketel Marte reached against Yamamoto for a second time to begin the bottom of the sixth inning, and after getting two crucial outs, the right-hander’s day was done after 107 pitches. Evan Phillips came in relief of Yamamoto, and kept Arizona off the board by getting Tim Tawa to line out to right field. After allowing three runs over eight innings against the Boston Red Sox in his last start, Yamamoto was able to toss his first scoreless start since tossing seven shutout innings against the San Diego Padres on July 4. Although Yamamoto was not able to get his first quality start since May 31, his six strikeouts were the most he’s had in a start since punching out seven during his complete game against the Yankees on July 19. Pages reached on his second infield single against Pfaadt in the top of the seventh, and put the Dodgers in scoring position for the first time with a stolen base. Even though they managed to put two men on, Pfaadt got Mookie Betts to ground out to short complete seven shutout innings on the mound.Alex Vesia came in to keep the game scoreless, but lost his command by walking two over his first three hitters. After getting Carroll to foul out, Vesia won a 10-pitch battle against Moreno by striking him out to strand the two runners and keep the game scoreless. Two pitches were all Kyle Tucker needed to break the scoreless ice, as he launched a solo home run against Jonathan Loásiga to put the Dodgers on top by a run. It’s the second home run Tucker has over his five-game hitting streak, where he’s managed to hit .389 over that time.Kyle breaks the tie! pic.twitter.com/qg62uS2e5x— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 9, 2026Teoscar Hernández and Hunter Feduccia added a pair of one-out singles, but Loásiga struck out both Shohei Ohtani and Pages to limit the damage at one run. After Kyle Hurt got two quick outs on three pitches, he promptly allowed a single to Nolan Arenado before walking Tawa and James McCann to load the bases. Tanner Scott was called on to fan the flames, and he got the rookie Ryan Waldschmidt to fly out to center and keep Arizona off the scoreboard. The Dodgers failed to get any insurance in the top of the ninth inning, and Edwin Díaz was called on to try to get the save. Perdomo laced a leadoff triple to put the tying run 90 feet away from scoring, and Carroll followed suit with a triple of his own to give Díaz his second blown save in as many games. Díaz got Moreno to line out to third for the first out before getting Marte to pop out to Mookie Betts. The Dodgers walked Nootbaar intentionally to put runners on the corners, and Díaz sent the game to extra innings by striking out Ildemaro Vargas. After the first two hitters failed to get anything going in the top of the 10th, Hunter Feduccia drew a two-out walk, but the pitch sailed past McCann and allowed Tucker to take third. Shohei Ohtani hit a ground ball to first, but the ball trickled out of Tawa’s glove, allowing both Ohtani to reach safely and Tucker to score as the Dodgers regained the lead. Shohei for the lead! pic.twitter.com/STFKxspglp— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 9, 2026Jack Dreyer took over for the Dodgers in the bottom of the 10th inning, and after he struck out Tawa for the first out, McCann reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners. After playing hero last night, Ryan Waldschmidt grounded right back to Dreyer, who turned a 1-6-3 double play to put the losing streak to bed. With the Dodgers coming away with the win, they regain an 8 1/2 game lead over Arizona in the NL West standings. Top-ranked Sabalenka, Pegula stunned in Toronto fourth round
World number one Aryna Sabalenka leaves the court after losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova in a fourth-round match at the WTA Toronto Masters hardcourt tournament (MATTHEW STOCKMAN)World number one Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula were both upset in fourth-round matches on Saturday at the Toronto Masters.Four-time Grand Slam winner Sabalenka suffered a blow to her preparations for a tilt at a third consecutive US Open title, beaten 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 6-4 by Russian 16th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova."I wasn't trying to think about the score or anything like beating number one," said Alexandrova after ousting the Belarusian in 2hr 29min. "I was just trying to do my best."I just tried to play every single point as if it was the last one because with her, you don't get a lot of chances during the match," Alexandrova said."I had a lot today, but I couldn't realize some of them. I'm super happy that I could win because after the second set, I thought (winning) was already past me."Alexandrova moves on to a quarter-final against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, who dispatched American Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4 in 78 minutes.Russian 15th seed Shnaider upset world number three Pegula 6-3, 6-3 to book a last-eight date with Poland's Iga Swiatek. The 22-year-old left-hander took only 73 minutes to defeat Pegula."This week I've been very comfortable on both defending and just firing some winners," Shnaider said. "It was working well. I was choosing a bigger target today but sometimes ripping the ball."Sabalenka dropped the first set on a tiebreak as her Russian opponent won five of the last six points."I was trying to play super aggressive, the way I didn't play for a long time. It worked," said Alexandrova. "I had the feeling I have some kind of power and I can create something and it helped me mentally."Sabalenka levelled the match but in the decider faced match points on her serve in the 10th game. She saved the first on a service winner and the second with an ace. But, after sending a backhand beyond the baseline, the Belarusian made her sixth and final double fault to lose the match."I didn't have any expectations before the match," Alexandrova said. "I knew it was going to be super difficult when I walked on the court."I was trying to risk as much as possible because it felt like it was the only way to create some chances. It caused many more mistakes but at the same time I created many more opportunities."Former world number one Swiatek, the seventh seed, rallied to defeat Ukraine's 10th-seeded Marta Kostyuk 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.Swiatek, a four-time French Open champion, saved nine break points in the last two sets without dropping serve."In the second I came out... playing a bit faster and more heavy and pushing Marta a little bit more," Swiatek said. "Game by game I felt like it was a good plan and a good choice and I went for it."js/dh

Dodgers Survive Another Edwin Diaz Blown Save to End Losing Streak
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 despite yet another blown save from closer Edwin DiazThe Dodgers have been totally out of sync over the last few weeks, compiling a seven-game losing streak with the offense not picking up the pitching at times, and the pitching letting down the hitters as well. LA was up 1-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth, when Edwin Diaz stepped up for another save opportunity. He came in and allowed consecutive triples, blowing the save, and with no outs and a speedy runner in Corbin Carroll on third base, the game looked lost. Dodgers outfielder Kyle Tucker (23) high-fives teammate Tommy Edman (25) after a solo home run against Diamondbacks pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga (43) in the eighth inning during a game at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz. on August 8, 2026.However, thanks to a great play from Max Muncy to catch a line-out, an infield pop-up, and then a clutch strikeout, Diaz saved himself from further scorn. Edwin Diaz pushes it to 99 MPH for a clutch strikeout! He blew his second consecutive save, but at least he kept the Dodgers in the game. For those losing hope in Diaz, the fastball is still encouraging, but the slider is letting him down badly. He is not throwing it enough…— Nelson Espinal (@nelson__espinal) August 9, 2026In the top of the 10th inning, things looked grim as the offense’s struggles continued. There were two outs on the board quickly, but somehow, Hunter Feduccia worked a walk, and on the fourth ball, Kyle Tucker, the runner on second, moved to third. Then, Shohei Ohtani legged out a tricky grounder, scoring the second run of the game. Jack Dreyer came in during the bottom of the 10th and delivered a great outing, powering the Dodgers to a win with a save. Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) walks out of the dugout prior to a game against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, on August 8, 2026.Offense fails to produce againOn Saturday, August 8th, the offense generated nothing other than a run through nine innings, leaving the team with too little of a margin against a struggling bullpen. The Dodgers had just two runners in scoring position throughout the game and went 0-for-3 with them in scoring position, for nine innings. Kyle Tucker scored the only run for the Dodgers through regulation on a home run that looked to be a special moment for him, until Edwin Diaz collapsed in the ninth inning again. Kyle Tucker has his first major Dodger moment!Despite the losing streak and a rough season all around for Tucker, he steps up to break a 0-0 stalemate with a solo shot. He is hitting .400 over his last 7 games. Might be peaking at the perfect time. pic.twitter.com/IprYzsBOwL— Nelson Espinal (@nelson__espinal) August 9, 2026Yamamoto’s gusty outingOn the mound, they got 5.2 shutout innings from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was nowhere near his best but did the job of an ace. Yamamoto battled an illness over the last week, so he didn’t travel with the team to Chicago. Instead, he stayed on the West Coast, giving him the chance to make a short trip to Arizona instead. Yoshinobu Yamamoto's final line vs. the D-Backs: 5.2 IP3 H3 BB0 ER6 KsNot the best from Yamamoto, but considering he is battling an illness, absolutely stellar.Always reliable.pic.twitter.com/KvxQjo9eO6— Nelson Espinal (@nelson__espinal) August 9, 2026His fastballs, both the four-seam and cutter, were not good tonight, but his offspeed was so good that he allowed only three hits and three walks while still getting six strikeouts. Even while not feeling 100%, Yamamoto still delivers for the Dodgers.

UFC Vegas 120 post-fight show: Reaction to Quillan Salkilld’s eye-opening destruction of Mateusz Gamrot
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - AUGUST 08: Quillan Salkilld of Australia reacts after a submission victory against Mateusz Gamrot of Poland in a lightweight fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Meta APEX on August 08, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC) Quillan Salkilld sent a message to the rest of the lightweight division on Saturday night with a first-round finish of Mateusz Gamrot — but it wasn’t just the fact that he got the quick stoppage, it was how Salkilld did it against one of the division’s best grapplers. Following the win, Salkilld called for a top-five fighter. But will he get it next?Following UFC Vegas 120, MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck and Alexander K. Lee react to the card, Salkilld’s impressive submission win over Gamrot, the realistic options in front of him, and what would’ve happened had Salkilld called out PFL champ and newest free agent Usman Nurmagomedov. Additionally, they discuss Diego Ferreira’s co-main event win over Billy Quarantillo, Alexia Thainara continuing her rise up the strawweight ranks with a win over Amanda Lemos, the updated main card for next weekend’s UFC 330 event, and much more. Ben Simmons Could Solve the Lakers’ Forward Problem With Low Risk
The Los Angeles Lakers need help at forward, and Ben Simmons, a free agent looking for a home, could be worth a flier. The Lakers are a franchise known for taking risks on highly talented players, and Ben Simmons fits that description to a T. The former No. 1 overall pick out of LSU was boldly compared to LeBron James coming out of college, and he was described as a franchise player. During his first season with the Sixers, he lived up to his prospect billing, not quite James, but an elite defender who could handle the ball, finish at an elite level, and pass like a guard. Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesHowever, the pressure of playing in Philadelphia, along with a jump shot never developing, hampered his growth and, in fact, caused a total regression, which has him on the outskirts of the NBA. In fact, despite being in his physical prime, Simmons did not play last year at all, a true rock-bottom moment for the former All-NBA player. Still, Simmons has been active on social media, expressing interest in coming back to the league and reasserting himself as a player in the association. “I wouldn’t change the story. The highs, the lows, the pain, the time, the lessons. I embrace all of it,” Simmons wrote on Instagram. “Every chapter built something in me that I couldn’t have built any other way.“Grateful for where I’ve been. Proud of where I stand. Ready for wherever this goes.”View this post on InstagramA post shared by Ben Simmons (@bensimmons)Why Ben Simmons makes sense for the LakersApr 11, 2025; Sacramento, California, USA; Los Angeles Clippers guard Ben Simmons (25) during the third quarter against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center. Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesSimmons can guard every possible position on the floor, switching at will and guarding up to centers at certain points. Additionally, he is a good rebounder and contributes in terms of assists. He also gives head coach JJ Redick the chance to run some unique plays, with Simmons handling the ball and even running pick-and-roll actions to take some pressure off Doncic and Reaves. On a league-minimum contract, Simmons is worth taking a gamble on, seeing what kind of development magic Redick can do, and whether he can finally move on from his mental demons to get his career back on track. India's 2036 Olympic bid receives ECB support: Chief Executive Richard Gould cites 2030 CWG in Ahmedabad as ideal prep
India's 2036 Olympic bid receives ECB support: Chief Executive Richard Gould cites 2030 CWG in Ahmedabad as ideal prep originally appeared on Cricket News. Add Cricket News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.KEY TAKEAWAYS:ECB backs India's 2036 Olympic bid, cites 2030 CWG preparation.Mixed disability cricket format gaining traction, eyeing Olympic future.IOC's revised process to finalise 2036 host nation by 2029.ECB chief Richard Gould backs India's push for 2036 Olympic hosting rightsEngland and Wales Cricket Board Chief Executive Richard Gould has confirmed the ECB's full support for India's potential bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, and framed the country's ambitions as a natural extension of cricket's expanding global footprint.According to Dainik Jagran, Gould described cricket's comeback at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as a significant opportunity for the sport's growth, praising the efforts of ICC Chairman Jay Shah and the wider governing body in making it happen. While speaking about India's Olympic hosting aspirations, Gould made clear that the ECB stands firmly behind both India and the BCCI in this pursuit. He also pointed to the 2030 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad, as an ideal testing ground that could help India build the infrastructure and experience needed ahead of a potential Olympic bid.MORE: Brett Lee ignores Sachin Tendulkar as ex-Australia star names his pick(Getty)Mixed disability cricket eyes pathway toward Olympic inclusionAlongside Olympic discussions, Gould touched on the growing momentum behind mixed disability cricket. India and England are currently locked in a seven-match series, and Gould revealed that the concept originated roughly three to four years ago through Ian Martin, who joined the ECB and envisioned a format allowing players with different types of disabilities to compete together on the same field, against opposition from around the world.Gould expressed his enthusiasm about the possibility of this format eventually featuring at the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and even future editions of the Paralympics. He insisted that the format has already gained considerable popularity through fixtures between India, England and Australia, and believes that ICC Chairman Jay Shah could play a crucial role in expanding its reach. MORE: Full list of injuries suffered by India stars in 2026: Latest updates with Indian cricket in a fitness crisis BCCI/Creimas When will the IOC decide the host for the 2026 Olympics?Once the Targeted Dialogue phase wraps up, the Future Host Commission will present its formal recommendations to the IOC Session. From there, it's up to the IOC Executive Board to settle on their preferred picks, with those final names then heading to a vote at the IOC Session sometime in mid-2029.In practical terms, this means India's Olympic hosting ambitions will remain under close evaluation for roughly three more years before a definitive decision is reached. Why India's Olympic bid deserves cautious optimismSupport from a body like the ECB is a massive boost to India's Olympic ambitions, particularly given cricket's massive commercial and cultural influence within the country.Using the 2030 Commonwealth Games as a rehearsal run makes strategic sense too, as hosting a major multi-sport event first would expose gaps in infrastructure, logistics and organisation well before the far greater demands of an Olympic Games arrive.MORE: 'Sooryavanshi has skill but…': Dhawan gives his verdict on VaibhavThat said, India's bid now faces a considerably more rigorous vetting process than previous host nations encountered, given the IOC's newly introduced Strategic Dialogue stage. However, the three-year runway before a final decision gives India ample time to build a genuinely strong case, provided the groundwork through Ahmedabad 2030 translates into real, demonstrable capability rather than just political rhetoric. For all the latest cricket news, opinion and commentary and to share your voice head to our Facebook, Instagram and X (Twitter) pages.
