СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMHeat linked to $342M elite shooter, three-time All-Star to pair with Giannis AntetokounmpoHeat linked to $342M elite shooter, three-time All-Star to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Bradley Beal has been a well-liked veteran throughout his career, and he could have had an even more successful NBA career if he had not dealt with injuries as frequently as he has. Throughout his career, he has played alongside stars such as Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker. The 14-year veteran had the opportunity to return to the Los Angeles Clippers for the upcoming season. However, Beal declined his player option and will now become an unrestricted free agent.“LA Clippers guard Bradley Beal has declined his $5.6 million player option for next season and will become an unrestricted free agent. Beal signed with the Clippers last summer but the guard played in only six games after suffering a fracture in his left hip that required season-ending surgery. Beal averaged career lows of 8.2 points and 20.2 minutes per game while shooting 36.8% from 3,” ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk wrote. One team that Beal has been in contact with is the Miami Heat.“Among the free agents currently available who the Heat has already shown some level of interest in are veteran guard Bradley Beal and veteran forward DeMar DeRozan," Miami Herald's Anthony Chiang wrote. "The Heat has had discussions with the representatives for both players, according to league sources.”Miami could be an excellent destination for Beal, especially because the Heat are in need of additional shooting. The organization is believed to be a strong fit for Beal and his playing style.“A team such as Miami would seem to be an ideal fit for Beal. After waiting on James and seeing him land in Philadelphia, the Heat are looking at filling their roster with more shooters and scorers, and Beal would be a nice fit,” ESPN wrote. If the Heat were able to land Beal, it would open up the floor significantly for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. Miami has also shown significant interest in Klay Thompson, but Beal could bring more offensive versatility to the roster.Beal has made $342 million in contracts throughout his career. If he can stay healthy, he could be a great addition for the Heat. Adding another veteran presence to the locker room would also be valuable for a team looking to compete at the highest level. If Beal joins an already talented offense, Miami could become a much more difficult matchup for opposing defenses.More NBA news:Lakers predicted to trade Dalton Knecht for $45M sniper, NBA champion in 3-team blockbusterLakers predicted to part ways with $18M former first-round blunder to end disappointing stintCavaliers predicted to sign $349M former MVP, nine-time All-Star over Jonathan KumingaLakers urged not to sign $46M ex-Warriors NBA champion, focus on Klay Thompson, PJ Washington0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Nottingham Forest set to complete move for £34m defenderReport: Nottingham Forest set to complete move for £34m defenderNottingham Forest closing in on Ousmane Diomande in major defensive moveNottingham Forest are on the verge of completing one of the more eye-catching defensive deals of the summer, with the Athletic reporting that Ousmane Diomande is set to join from Sporting CP for €40million (£34.3m; $46.2m). The agreement is now being finalised and, if the remaining details fall into place, the 22-year-old is expected to travel for a medical before signing a proposed five-year contract at the City Ground. This has been building for some time. Forest were previously described as being in advanced talks and there was wider interest in Diomande from across Europe, which makes this a significant development. In market terms, it reads as a decisive push by a club determined to back Oliver Glasner early in his tenure and put the right profile of player into a squad that already contains quality in key defensive positions.Ousmane Diomande transfer points to clear Forest strategyThere is logic to the move beyond the headline fee. Diomande has made 132 appearances for Sporting since arriving from Midtjylland in January 2023 and has also played 16 times for Ivory Coast. He represented his country at the World Cup this summer, alongside Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, a detail that may help his adaptation in the dressing room.Forest have already moved for Xaver Schlager on a free transfer, while Sangare and Murillo have signed new contracts through to 2029 and 2030 respectively. Seen together, those decisions suggest long-term planning rather than opportunism. Diomande fits that model, young, established, physically impressive and already tested in high-pressure environments.Oliver Glasner back three taking shape at City GroundThe key football point in the report is that Diomande could become the missing piece in Glasner’s preferred system. The analysis describes the deal as “not only a significant statement of intent from Forest, but it could also provide a key piece of Oliver Glasner’s defensive jigsaw.” That feels accurate.Forest already have a strong pairing in Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic, but Glasner’s teams have often relied on a balanced back three, each defender bringing a different strength. Diomande is viewed as someone who can complement what is already there, adding athleticism, presence and composure in possession. As the report puts it, “Diomande would add some of the height and physical presence Glasner believes his squad needs to help them to thrive from set pieces at both ends of the pitch. But he is also confident and capable on the ball.”That profile matters. Milenkovic offers authority and aerial strength. Murillo brings mobility and quality in build-up. Diomande appears to offer a blend that can connect the two, which is why this deal has the feel of a carefully selected tactical addition rather than a simple squad-strengthening exercise.Forest making statement in transfer marketTiming is important too. Forest believed they were close to getting this done during their Portugal training camp, and while the final steps have taken longer than expected, there is a sense that this could become “a pivotal moment in the early stages of Glasner’s tenure.” If completed, it would reinforce the idea that Forest are giving their head coach the platform to implement the structure he wants from the outset. There is also a broader message in signing a player who had interest from multiple European clubs. Forest are showing ambition, and they are doing so in a targeted way. A fee of £34.3m for a 22-year-old defender is substantial, but for the right age profile and the right tactical fit, clubs increasingly view that as the modern market rate.Should the final formalities be completed as expected, Forest will have landed a centre-back with pedigree, upside and clear relevance to Glasner’s plans. On paper, at least, this looks like one of the more coherent Premier League moves of the window. Our ViewAs Forest fans, this is exactly the sort of news that gets the pulse racing. Diomande feels like a proper statement signing, young, powerful, proven at a high level, and coming in with a reputation that suggests Forest have beaten serious competition to get him. When you read that he has had “suitors from across Europe this summer”, it makes the whole thing feel even bigger. This is not a gamble pulled from nowhere, this is a club moving with confidence. The exciting part is how he could fit with Murillo and Milenkovic. You can already picture that back three, strength, pace, aggression and quality on the ball. If Glasner gets the balance right, Forest could become an awkward side for anyone to play against. The line that Diomande is “a key piece of Oliver Glasner’s defensive jigsaw” says plenty, because supporters want to see a clear plan, and this looks like one. There is also a sense of momentum around the club. New contracts for Murillo and Sangare, Schlager arriving, and now a £34.3m move for Diomande, it all suggests Forest are not standing still. From a supporter perspective, that is what you want, ambition with a purpose. If this one gets over the line, the City Ground will believe something exciting is building under Glasner.Source: ATHLETIC0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMFC Barcelona Is ‘Furious’ With Frenkie De JongFC Barcelona is reportedly angry with its midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who refuses to undergo surgery while showing no signs of improvement some six weeks after becoming injured.Getty ImagesFC Barcelona is angry with Frenkie de Jong according to SPORT, citing anonymous sources, with the midfielder refusing to undergo surgery while showing no signs of improvement some six weeks after becoming injured.De Jong returned to Catalonia with a foot injury following the Netherlands’ last 32 World Cup exit to Morocco at the World Cup. That defeat came on June 30, and De Jong is still yet to go under the knife or show signs of improvement. In a major blow to Hansi Flick and his squad planning ahead of the new season, De Jong’s absence timeframe has been put at three months in normal circumstances and anything up to six depending on how he handles it. Furthermore, there’s also a feeling that De Jong didn’t give his all at the end of last season because his main priority was the World Cup.February 22nd was the last time he played a full game for the club, which he joined in a high-profile move from Ajax in 2019 as the Champions League’s best midfielder that term.He was then out for nine games, losing his place to the likes of Marc Bernal and Gavi across the last six matches he came back for for.In the last two of the 2025/2026 campaign, De Jong played no part at all prior to linking up with Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands outfit. On the eve of another season, Barça wants Frenkie to make a decision. Surgery is the club’s preferred method of treatment, but Frenkie opts for something more conservative that would reportedly keep him out of action for four months. This could be Frenkie de Jong’s last season at FC BarcelonaThat four month timeframe could have its benefits. If Barça manages to land Rodri, it can restructure the wage bill and fall on the right side of Financial Fair Play limits. In normal circumstances, were he not injured, De Jong might already be placed on the transfer market just like midfielders such as Marc Casado and Tommy Marques, who have their exits described as “imminent”.Rodri’s expected arrival after agreeing terms provides an “overbooking” in midfield, and the Spain captain is direct competition for De Jong.In his injured state, there is no way that De Jong is moved on any time soon despite past links with Premier League giants such as Manchester United. Effectively, though, this could be his last season at FC Barcelona if Rodri becomes the starting pivot charged with acting as a mentor to Marc Bernal. This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMJayden Bogle: Getting back in our home was importantJayden Bogle: Getting back in our home was importantAfter putting in his usual marauding display down the right-hand-side and being part of a defensive unit that kept a clean sheet over 120 minutes against RB Leipzig, Jayden Bogle gave his post-match thoughts to LUTV.The 26-year-old has been a regular in pre-season and enjoyed his time on the pitch during the tour of the US, but he admitted it was a great feeling to return to West Yorkshire for this one and to get another win. “Yeah, it was good,” Jayden explained. “It was enjoyable and nice to be back as well. Overall, it was a good game in both sixties. Even though it is still pre-season, getting back in our home was important. We had a good few games away as well but, yeah, everyone was buzzing to be back.“It was nice [playing and training in the USA], a bit different to what we have done previously. But again, I think as it got towards the end, everyone was excited to get back home and get back for this game as well.”The Whites have had to face teams showing different styles of play during the summer so far and Bogle sees that as a positive, after coming up against an aggressive Bundesliga outfit at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.“That is what we have been working on as well. We know that in the Premier League, you are going to get teams that are going to counter-press really quick.“You have to be good on the ball but stay as calm as possible to try and take the press out of it. So yeah, I think we showed that really well at times today.”Bogle’s last question to answer in his post-match interview was about the upcoming clash with Manchester United in midweek, where he was asked whether it can really be called a friendly.“No, you can’t,” he laughed. “Even though it is pre-season, it is not going to be a friendly. We will recover now and then prepare for that one next.”0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMLiverpool Starting XI vs AS Monaco: Confirmed Team News and Predicted LineupLiverpool Starting XI vs AS Monaco: Confirmed Team News and Predicted LineupVictor Munoz set for Liverpool debut against Monaco at AnfieldLiverpool are expected to give Victor Munoz his first appearance this weekend, with Monaco the opposition and Andoni Iraola edging closer to a side that actually looks like his own.Munoz arrived from Osasuna for £34.5 million before the World Cup, the first signing of the new regime. His integration has been delayed by Spain’s run in North America, even if he did not play a minute after suffering an injury early in the tournament. Rules are rules, he was due a three-week break, and that should have pushed his Liverpool start until after this game.Instead, he cut the holiday short. He reported for training on Wednesday and has made it clear he wants in immediately. “Well, I think I’m ready,” Munoz said. “Obviously if the coach says so after training and asks me to feature in the starting XI, I’ll be there. “I’m keen and I can’t wait to get started. [Against] Monaco, why not?”That is the correct attitude. It also helps that, thanks to his lack of World Cup minutes, he should be relatively fresh. A start is possible. Ninety minutes would be another matter.Photo: IMAGOMunoz debut adds pace to Iraola planThis game matters because Liverpool still need sharpness, shape and some clarity. Iraola got a strong first-half showing against Leeds before things drifted in a 4-2 defeat. There were encouraging signs, particularly in midfield, where Trey Nyoni did enough to deserve another chance ahead of Ryan Gravenberch. The likely setup has Nyoni alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, with Florian Wirtz operating as the No 10 behind Alexander Isak. That gives Liverpool mobility, technical quality and a centre-forward who can finish. Munoz, if selected from the start, would add directness from a wide area, something this squad needs.Alisson and Van Dijk return boosts Liverpool XIAlisson Becker only resumed pre-season on Tuesday after his World Cup involvement with Brazil, though he should still get some minutes. Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are in a similar position and are expected to feature. Gakpo has been linked with Tottenham, but for now that is background noise. At the back, Liverpool may have to improvise. Jeremy Jacquet is still waiting for his debut after a knock picked up on the USA tour. If he misses out, Ifeanyi Ndukwe is on standby to partner Van Dijk. Jeremie Frimpong remains a doubt after coming off against Leeds, although the issue was described as precautionary.Liverpool team news for Monaco friendlyAlexis Mac Allister is not due back until next week following his World Cup break. Hugo Ekitike, Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley are all out injured. Wataru Endo is also a doubt.Predicted Liverpool XI, Alisson, Frimpong, Ndukwe, Van Dijk, Kerkez, Nyoni, Szoboszlai, Munoz, Wirtz, Ngumoha, Isak.Kick-off is 2.30pm BST on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Anfield.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMView From The Dolan: Gladiators Fighting DragonsIf you are one of those people that say “ooh, it’s just another friendly” or worse, “it’s a semi-friendly”, then stop reading now. I bloody love the cups, always have done, so for me this was as competitive as two gladiators fighting dragons (I don’t know who was a gladiator and who was a dragon in the context of this game, but just go with it).I’m actually not in England at the moment but knew this game was on TV, so the night before I scoped out a local bar to tap the owner up into showing the game for me. To be fair, I’d visited this bar two years ago to watch us play Birmingham City in the season opener, so I knew what I was getting.Because the game was on the red button, he made it clear he wouldn’t know if he could show the game until kick-off, or at worst, five minutes after kick-off. To set the scene, the bar has about 18 screens dotted throughout the place and the most random selection of footie shirts you’ve seen pinned to the wall. One of our very own Waitrose classics was displayed very close to the screen I ended up watching.I faced an anxious wait to see if our game would be shown, so I calmly and expertly ordered a local draught beer – a beer I called “a waiting beer”. As he flicked through the games, it became clear I’d have to wait until after kick-off to see our lads do battle.Barnsley, Bradford City, Bristol City… Burnley, Burton Albion, Cardiff City all appeared, but not us (side note: those little dots indicate where we should have been). By now, I was worried. The bar was filling with slicked-back-hair, Asics-wearing West Ham United fans to watch their game against Portsmouth (I mean literally the worst two teams going) on the big screen with the sound, and I was sat there with a local beer, watching the owner cycle through thousands of channels. Just as I’d finished the complimentary BBQ Ruffles, we appeared, like a unicorn in the highlands of Scotland. Show time!In celebration, I ordered another local draught beer and settled down, hoping for a) a win and b) to block out the commentary of the other game (which in itself proved to be a skill). We started well, the kit looking good in the sunshine and the ball being sprayed around well. So good in fact that we actually scored through a comprised strike via the baby-faced assassin Josh Stokes. He really does look about 12 but, if he scores on the regular, I’ll overlook it completely. The camera panned to the dugout and it was a contrast of styles clothing-wise. Here is my review below:Leam Richardson: All black. Brave, given the weather. Not a badge in sight. Wouldn’t look wrong on the sidelines of La Liga.John Coleman: Badged-up. Chunky trainers. Mismatch of colours. Looked like a lost dad at an all-inclusive buffet in Cyprus.Bromley manager Andy Woodman: Competition winner. After the goal, it’s not wrong to say we collapsed. We conceded a goal that would have been a shambles for a Sunday league team, let alone a professional outfit that have access to free bottles of water and Powerade. For me, Joel Pereira is solely to blame for that. Paudie O’Connor had too much on his player with both the striker and the ball, and needed Pereira to come and smash it. He didn’t, got ‘megged and somehow the Bromley fella made it look more difficult to score than miss (seriously, watch it. He looks like a penguin in Piccadilly Circus putting it in the net).At half-time I was 2.5 beers deep, felt awkward asking for a fourth bowl of complimentary Ruffles and needed a wee. I did the wee first, then ran down the stairs (I forgot to say this bar was on the first floor) and into the local supermarket to buy my own bag of Ruffles and ordered another beer.Listening to another game while watching ours was seriously testing my patience. At one point, the commentator was talking about a team targeting one of Hull City’s best players. “Why would Bromley be in for him?” I thought to myself and then realised it was West Ham. A genuine Matrix-style feeling that needed a lot of concentration. The second half was a little better. Kyreece Lisbie was enjoying the fruits of his labour and earned a penalty. Lewis Wing stepped up, hit the post and it ended up going out for a throw-in – something I’d never seen before in my whole life. From about the 70th minute, I felt it was going to pens and it seemed like both teams agreed with me. We huffed and puffed but couldn’t start the fire and, as such, our first competitive game of the season was decided by death-kicks.A perfect set of pens and a save from Pereira saw us into the hat of the second round. Ultimately, we lacked composure in the middle with Wing and Andy Rinomhota. We also didn’t create enough from those spots until Charlie Savage came on, creating four chances in his cameo.Lisbie looked OK. The rest were pretty average and you’d hope for a much-improved performance against Luton Town in the league opener. As I left the bar, I made a mental note of how much Sim owed me from the TTE kitty given that I’d left a pool, a beer machine and my sun lounger to roll down a mountain (hill) in 35-degree heat (yes, I know it’s hot at home but this is different heat) to watch this. I also wondered how I’d feel in February when I’d be walking down Wembley Way to watch our boys in the final of this competition. We can hope, right?Until next time.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COMFormer Lions' Pro Bowler an option for Commanders as Laremy Tunsil replacementThe Washington Commanders have a giant hole to fill for the upcoming 2026 season. After being helped off the field in Saturday's practice, further tests revealed that left tackle Laremy Tunsil had suffered a torn pec. That's the worst possible news for Washington at the worst possible time. Where do the Commanders turn now? Brandon Coleman makes the most sense. He started 12 games at left tackle for the Commanders as a rookie in 2024. Last season, Coleman started the final three games at left tackle. He played well. But Coleman is currently competing with Chris Paul for the starting left guard position. So, what if Washington looks outside for a Tunsil replacement? One name stands out: Taylor Decker. Decker, who turns 33 later this month, spent the past 10 seasons as the left tackle for the Detroit Lions. For his NFL career, Decker has played in and started 140 games. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2024. Why is Decker no longer with the Lions? Well, Detroit had a young replacement lined up. Penei Sewell was dominant as Detroit's right tackle for the past three seasons, but it was clear his future was on the left side. And when Decker's price tag was too high for the Lions, the two sides couldn't agree to terms on a restructured deal, and Decker requested his release. Decker to Washington does make some sense. Offensive coordinator David Blough was Decker's teammate from 2019-21 and part of 2023 with the Lions. No one would know Decker better than Blough. And money isn't a problem for the Commanders, who had over $43 million available in cap space before Friday's signing of Stefon Diggs. Still, Coleman makes the most sense. But what if Washington wants Coleman at left guard, or to keep him in a utility role? If that's the case, then Decker is worth a call. No one player can replace Tunsil, but the Commanders do have better options than most. СсылкаSPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘I would have banned Sourav Ganguly’: Javagal Srinath on Steve Waugh’s wait during 2001 Eden Test tossCHENNAI: If Javagal Srinath had been the match referee when former India captain Sourav Ganguly famously kept his Australian counterpart Steve Waugh waiting at the toss during the 2001 Eden Gardens Test match, Ganguly may well have faced a suspension!“I would have banned Sourav for a few games,” Srinath said at an event here while recalling the incident, which has gone down in history as an act of gamesmanship that rattled Waugh and the Australian team during the course of the famous series that India won 2-1. Ganguly later said that he couldn’t find his blazer, leading to an impromptu delay.Srinath, however, praised Ganguly’s leadership, particularly his ability to nurture youngsters such as Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Virender Sehwag. He felt Indian cricket underwent a major transformation after the match-fixing scandal of the late 1990s, with players developing a collective resolve to restore the game’s image.“There was a bit of a resoluteness in each and every player to really put that image back and then prove to the world that cricket is superior, cricket is clean,” Srinath said. He recalled that between 1991 and 1997-98, India struggled to win abroad but things began changing from 1999 on.Looking back at the 2003 World Cup final against Australia, Srinath revealed that he had wanted India to bat first after a discussion within the team. “I was one of the guys who said we should always bat first and then put them under pressure,” he said. But Ganguly had a different view. And once the decision was made, Srinath said the team had to move on, but Australia were simply too strong. He recalled recommending Zaheer to selector Chandu Borde after watching the left-arm pacer take six wickets against Air India while representing the MRF Pace Foundation. When Borde jokingly asked what would happen to Srinath if Zaheer was picked, his response was simple: “If he’s good, he replaces me.” 1330633350 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

While Lopez was never a star, he enjoyed a long career as a serviceable starter and rotational player. The recent debate over trans women being included in the WNBA led to other former NBA players like Enes Kanter and Royce White to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft, citing the vague language in the CBA about eligibility.Robin Lopez slams Enes Kanter and Royce White over WNBA Draft debateWith Kanter and White trying to force the WNBA to exclude trans athletes through their draft declarations, Lopez criticized his former NBA peers heavily with strong comments against both.“Biggest issue: If you’re being drafted, people are saying, ‘We want you around for 4 years,’ and I can’t imagine anybody wants Enes Kanter or Royce White around them for even 4 minutes. We’ve seen this illustrated whenever Enes is near Turkey, or Royce comes close to logic/reality.”Photo by Elsa/Getty ImagesLopez directly attacked both Kanter and White personally, referring to the reaction to Kanter’s opposition of the incumbent Turkiye government and White’s switch from mental health advocate to a political conspiracy theorist. The former Stanford Cardinal Lopez clearly stands against Kanter and White’s attempts at further politicizing a sensitive WNBA issue, which has been a very polarizing sports topic in recent weeks. The WNBA is looking to address the language in the CBA to have stricter wording, but not necessarily an outright ban on future trans athletes potentially playing in the league. The debate was sparked by Sophie Cunningham, but it has become something else entirely. Hopefully, the WNBA can find a solution that’s satisfactory to all parties.Read more:Jason Whitlock wants DiJonai Carrington banned from the WNBA after Sophie Cunningham altercationFever coach Stephanie White defends DiJonai Carrington after hard foul on Sophie CunninghamSophie Cunningham responds to ‘White Privilege’ comment from hard-fouling opponent after Sky game0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

We don’t want to always give them the answers, when we don’t have to.“It prepares them a little bit for the season as well. In that respect, there are a lot of things people don’t always see that we were quite happy with. There were some good signs there.”United conclude their pre-season campaign with fixtures against Leeds United and AC Milan, before the Premier League opener at Hull City on August 22nd. Carrick is confident his team are in good shape ahead of the new season.“I feel it’s been a good pre-season so far,” added Carrick. “In the games that we’ve had, we’ve kind of built and taken steps throughout that. Normally, if you’re travelling, it’s literally hotel and going to the stadium but we’ve had a walk and a bit and seen the supporters.“This time of year, that’s always important because you feel the energy and passion from the fans. I said it for years," McKenna told Sky Sports."Since I was six years old, I thought about this moment my whole life, so for it to finally happen at 27, it goes to show everyone, don't give up, always stay true to yourself, and you can do anything."McKenna admitted Oliha provided a sterner challenge than expected and welcomed all challengers."Oliha was definitely strong. I made it harder than it should have been, but I got the job done."It doesn't matter [who's next], anyone. I'm easy to find now that I have a belt. I want to collect every belt in boxing. I'm the best middleweight in the world, and super-middleweight; I don't mind jumping up either."Oliha began positively and applied pressure during the cagey opening rounds, enjoying particular success in the second as McKenna looked to establish his jab from the back foot.McKenna, known as 'The Silencer' gradually found his rhythm, repeatedly landing his jab and uppercut while using his range effectively to avoid Oliha's heavier attacks. The 27-year-old increasingly took control, forcing Oliha onto the ropes and landing combinations to the head and body.Oliha continued to march forward, but McKenna's movement and defence largely nullified the Italian's pressure as he continued to land the cleaner shots.A clash of heads left McKenna bleeding in the 11th, but he remained composed and landed several clean shots in response.Oliha pushed forward in search of a dramatic finish in the final round, but McKenna continued to frustrate him with his jab before the final bell prompted celebrations from the Dublin crowd.Simpson avenges only loss in Williamson rematchIrish boxers complete a clean sweep in DublinIn the co-main event, Cork native Callum Walsh defeated former European champion Tyler Denny by decision after a gritty 10-round battle, extending his unbeaten record to 17-0 as native fighters completed a clean sweep of wins in the Irish capital.Joe Ward marked his return from a two-year absence with a victory over previously unbeaten Artjom Kasparian, as the Athlone boxer settled into the contest and finished strongly to earn a decision win.In the prelims, Stevie 'The Hitman' McKenna - brother of headliner Aaron - produced an emphatic first-round knockout of Owen O'Neill, dropping the Belfast fighter with a powerful right hand just over a minute into their middleweight contest.Derry's Connor Coyle improved to 23-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Mark Beuke, while Patrick O'Connor stopped Juan Manuel Moriel after the opening round.McKenna 'counting down days' to world title shotBoxing schedule and results 2026Watch every Born to Brawl episode More boxing from the BBC Notifications, social media and more with BBC Sport0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

СсылкаAPNEWS.COMWatchdog for $46 billion tribal gambling industry can’t enforce the law without a chairpersonThe Harrah's Casino, owned by the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, is seen in Chandler, Okla., Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026. (AP Photo/Brittany Bendabout)2026-08-09T10:11:11Z ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — On opening day at the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma’s new Harrah’s-branded casino, the tribe’s chairman watched customers pack the gambling floor while a queue of cars spilled out of the parking lot.“We couldn’t let them in because we were so full,” Chairman Jacob Keyes said. “That’s a direct impact from the Harrah’s name.”But a vacancy in Washington is preventing the tribe’s partnership with the gambling giant from moving beyond branding. Plans for Harrah’s parent company to take over day-to-day management of the casino in Chandler, Oklahoma, stalled after it opened in April, because no one is at the helm of the federal commission that oversees tribal gambling. The last chairperson of the National Indian Gaming Commission stepped down from the role in January. President Donald Trump has not nominated anyone to fill the vacancy. Absent a chair, the commission is unable to perform some key responsibilities, like enforcing legal and safety violations, approving new tribal gambling laws and certifying management agreements between tribes and casino operators. Industry leaders say the agency’s inertia risks delaying business deals, weakening oversight and leaving tribes without a key advocate in Washington as they grapple with an emerging threat posed by online prediction markets.“At this crucial time, the (National Indian Gaming Commission) is operating with one arm tied behind its back,” said Jonodev Chaudhuri, a former NIGC chair from 2013 to 2019 and a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. “That’s a very precarious position for tribes and Indian gaming.” There’s a lot at stake for tribes that rely heavily on casino revenue to fund healthcare, housing, education and other vital services. Tribal gambling brought in a record $46 billion in 2025, nearly triple the annual casino revenue of gambling powerhouse Nevada. The commission’s core powers are vested in its chair With its Harrah’s contract stuck in limbo, the Iowa Tribe’s small government staff finds itself managing the 175,000-square-foot (16,258 square-meter) casino, a mammoth task it had intended to outsource.“It’s discouraging. We’re paying a fee and not getting the full value,” Keyes said. The decision to outsource management was strategic: Harrah’s branding would bring in more business than existing staff could accommodate. Instead, staff has to balance management with other priorities like preparing tribal budgets and overseeing social programs, Keyes said. The three-member gaming commission was formed in 1988 to regulate casino-style gambling and promote economic development on tribal lands. Some 250 tribal governments across 29 states now operate 545 gambling facilities, the commission said. Read More Under federal law, its enforcement powers are vested solely in the chairperson. Industry leaders say its inability to cite casinos for violating federal law or force the emergency closure of unsafe facilities is particularly troubling. In a typical year, the commission issues several citations to tribes for operating casinos on unauthorized lands, failing to submit required financial statements, misusing revenues and other violations. The commission’s last enforcement action was issued on Jan. 12 — the same day acting chairperson Sharon Avery’s term expired. She remains on the commission. The commission declined an interview request and said in an emailed statement that tribal officials and its field staff provide “excellent regulation” amid the leadership gap. But Steven Light, an expert in tribal gambling law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, said the lack of enforcement power could discourage investment in tribal gambling and slow business growth.“Markets function best when there’s stability and certainty around processes and rules,” Light said. Prediction markets have emerged as a new threat to tribal gaming The commission vacancy comes as the popularity of online prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket explodes. Tribal leaders fear those platforms, which allow users to wager on the outcome of virtually any event, could violate their sovereignty and take a bite out of gambling revenue.“Every dollar generated by Indian gaming goes to fund healthcare for our people, education for our children, housing for our elders,” said David Bean, chairman of the Indian Gaming Association and a citizen of the Puyallup Tribe. At least eight tribes have sued prediction market platforms, alleging they accept bets from tribal lands and in states where tribes have exclusive gambling rights in violation of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, which the gaming commission is tasked with enforcing. Prediction markets argue their users are engaging in futures trading, not gambling, and dispute claims that they are circumventing regulation. The commission chairperson typically serves as an advocate for the tribal gambling industry in Washington, according to former commissioners and staffers. Yet it’s been conspicuously silent while the federal government weighs how to regulate prediction markets, said Joe Valandra, the commission’s chief of staff from 2005 to 2007 and a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. James Siva, who leads the California Nations Indian Gaming Association and is vice chairman of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, said the Trump administration’s support of and business ties to the prediction markets industry could explain why it hasn’t filled the vacancy. “These things are happening in conjunction with each other,” Siva said in April at a news conference with the Indian Gaming Association. “It is not a coincidence by any means.” The leadership gap spans two administrations The commission’s last Senate-confirmed chairperson termed out under former President Joe Biden without a successor in place. A White House spokesperson called the commission a “valued board” but did not say when a new nomination will be made. In April, Trump appointed Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Billy Kirkland, a citizen of the Navajo Nation, to the commission. That’s raised questions about potential executive branch influence over an agency designed to be independent.“This crosses that threshold in an uncomfortable way,” said Shannon O’Loughlin, the commission’s chief of staff from 2015 to 2017 and a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Keyes said a crucial opportunity to develop his tribe’s economy hangs in the balance. He doesn’t see the commission vacancy as partisan play. “I don’t want to sound like sour grapes, but when have Native American issues ever been prioritized by the federal government?” he said.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 1 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр
