Zelenskyy meets with Macron in Paris as U.S.-led peace negotiations advance

(AP Photo/Christophe Ena)2025-12-01T11:32:05Z PARIS (AP) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday at the Elyse presidential palace in Paris, part of a flurry of diplomatic activity aimed at brokering the terms for a potential ceasefire in the nearly four-year-old war in Ukraine. Zelenskyys visit to Paris followed a meeting between Ukrainian and U.S. officials in Florida on Sunday, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as productive. The two sides have worked to make revisions to a proposed U.S.-authored plan that was developed in negotiations between Washington and Moscow but criticized as being too weighted toward Russian demands. Those criticisms were perhaps most vehement from Ukraines European allies who, while welcoming U.S. peace efforts, pushed back on key tenets of the plan. Ahead of his meeting with Zelenskyy on Monday, Macrons office said the two leaders would discuss conditions for a fair and lasting peace. Later, Macrons office said he and Zelenskyy held talks with other European partners including leaders from Britain, Germany, Poland, Italy, Norway, Finland, Denmark and the Netherlands. Also included in the talks were European Union officials Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. Macron and Zelenskyy also had phone calls with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, Macrons office said. U.S. President Donald Trump has downplayed his administrations original 28-point peace framework, which would have imposed limits on the size of Ukraines military, blocked the country from joining NATO and required Ukraine to give up territory, as a concept to be fine-tuned. Last week, Macron a key ally for Ukraine who has firmly backed Kyiv and sought to counterbalance elements of the U.S. peace plan that are seen to favor Russia urged Western allies to bring rock-solid guarantees to Ukraine in case a ceasefire or a peace deal was to be reached. He has endorsed deploying a reassurance force on land, at sea and in the air to help ensure the countrys security. Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet with U.S. presidential envoy Witkoff on Tuesday afternoon. Witkoffs role in the peace efforts came under scrutiny last week following a report that he coached Putins foreign affairs adviser on how Russias leader should pitch to Trump on the Ukraine peace plan. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on Monday expressed concern that the U.S.-Russia talks might end up with Ukraine having to make yet more concessions, like being pressured to surrender its territory.Im afraid that all the pressure will be put on the victim, which is that Ukraine has to make concessions and obligations, Kallas told reporters in Brussels after chairing a meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers. Its the United Nations charter that says that you cant change borders by force. If this pays off, we will see this elsewhere all around the world, she warned. Whoever has the power gets to take what they want. Russia condemns Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure Peskov on Monday condemned Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil infrastructure over the weekend, including an attack on an oil terminal owned by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, CPC, and another that targeted two tankers in Turkish waters.A major oil terminal near the port of Novorossiysk halted operations Saturday after a strike by unmanned boats damaged one of its three mooring points, according to a statement from CPC, which owns the terminal. This came a day after Ukrainian naval drones struck two oil tankers in the Black Sea that were reported to be part of Russias shadow fleet that evade sanctions.Ukraine confirmed on Saturday it carried out the attacks.Peskov described both incidents as outrageous.Such attacks by Ukrainian drones on critical infrastructure facilities are an ongoing practice, Peskov said, discussing the CPC terminal strike. Its outrageous, because were talking about an international facility. Meanwhile, Russias Ministry of Defense said Russian forces had destroyed 32 Ukrainian drones overnight. The drones were shot down over 11 Russian regions, as well as the Sea of Azov, the ministry said.An apartment block was damaged during a Ukrainian attack on the city of Kaspiysk in Russias Dagestan region, local Gov. Sergei Melikov said. Located on the shore of the Caspian Sea, close to Russias border with Azerbaijan, the city is more than 1000 kilometers (620 miles) from the front line. Daytime strike on Ukrainian cityA Russian missile strike around midday on Monday killed four people and wounded 40 others, 11 critically, in the eastern city of Dnipro, according to the head of regional administration Vladyslav Haivanenko. The strike hit the city center, damaging four residential high-rises, an educational facility and the storage facility of a humanitarian organization, said Dnipros mayor, Borys Filatov, adding that search and rescue operations were ongoing.Ukraines Air Force said Russia had fired 89 strike and decoy drones overnight Sunday before the attack on Dnipro, of which 63 drones were shot down or jammed.Overall in November, Russia fired 100 missiles of various types and 9,588 reconnaissance and strike drones into Ukraine, according to the Air Forces monthly report published Monday.___Associated Press writers Katie Marie Davies in Manchester, England, and Lorne Cook in Brussels contributed to this report. ___Follow APs coverage of the war in Ukraine at https://apnews.com/hub/russia-ukraine SYLVIE CORBET Corbet is an Associated Press reporter based in Paris. Crypto stocks help pull Wall Street lower and threaten its 5-day winning streak
Options trader Steven Rodriguez, left, works on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, Monday, Nov. 24, 2025. (AP Photo/Richard Drew)2025-12-01T05:06:54Z NEW YORK (AP) U.S. stocks are giving back some of last weeks rally on Monday, as bitcoin, Nvidia and other former stars of Wall Street fall again. The S&P 500 slipped 0.6% and was on track to break a five-day winning streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 267 points, or 0.6%, as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.8% lower.Last weeks rally was largely due to strengthening hopes that the Federal Reserve will cut its main interest rate at its meeting next week to help shore up the slowing job market. Such hopes are still high, with traders betting on a roughly 87% chance of it, according to data from CME Group. But yields for longer-term Treasurys nevertheless rose in the bond market on Monday. It was part of a worldwide climb for bond yields after the head of the Bank of Japan hinted at a possible hike to interest rates there. When bonds are paying higher yields, they can attract investors who would otherwise buy stocks, cryptocurrencies or other investments. Higher bond yields can undercut prices for all kinds of investments, and they particularly hurt those seen as the most expensive. Bitcoin, which was soaring around $125,000 in October, dropped below $86,000. Thats down roughly 5% from a day earlier. That sent stocks lower across the crypto industry. Coinbase Global sank 4.8%, and Robinhood Markets fell 4.5%, for example. Strategy, the company that used to be known as MicroStrategy and now raises money just to buy bitcoin, dropped 6.9%. Other former high flyers on Wall Street also struggled, including stocks caught up in the frenzy around artificial-intelligence technology. Nvidia, which has grown to become Wall Streets most influential stocks, slipped 0.6% and was one of the heaviest weights on the market. Palantir Technologies fell 2.3%, and Super Micro Computer sank 3%. The market seemed to get relatively little solace from an apparently strong start to the holiday shopping season. Consumer spending during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday retailing bonanza was expected to exceed expectations, despite uncertainty over the outlook for the U.S. economy. Among the few winners on Wall Street was Synposys, which rose 4.6%. It said Nvidia is investing $2 billion in its stock as part of an expanded partnership between the two. In stock markets abroad, indexes were mixed amid some sharp moves.Frances CAC 40 fell 0.5%, dragged down in part by a 5.1% loss for Airbus. The European aerospace giant said Monday that most of its fleet of 6,000 A320 passenger jets have received an update after a weekend software glitch that could have affected flight controls. Travelers faced minor disruptions heading into the weekend as airlines around the world scrambled to push the software updates out after Airbus warned of the problem Friday, one of the busiest travel days of the year. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 tumbled 1.9% on worries about the possibility of higher interest rates. Japans benchmark interest rate has remained near zero for years in hopes of juicing the economy. Now inflation is holding above the Bank of Japans target of about 2%. In the bond market, the yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.08% from 4.02% Friday. ___AP Business Writer Elaine Kurtenbach contributed.

Donald Trumps lesbian niece says hes deeply unhealthy & losing his hold on the GOP
Donald Trumps lesbian niece, Mary Trump, emphasized in a recent video that her uncle is not doing well and that even diehard Republicans can no longer ignore his obvious physical and mental decline. Donald is 79 years old and a deeply unhealthy person, she said. His father had a very serious case of Alzheimers that went on for about 15 years. Related The Trump administration wont last forever. What happens after its gone? Every day, Donald seems increasingly feeble and unable to focus And as he weakens, so too does his hold over the Republican party.Mary Trump then referenced a November 19th op-ed from Salon writer Amanda Marcotte speculating that the presidents MRI and overall deteriorating health spurred Republicans to vote in favor of releasing the Epstein files. When the authoritarian leader starts to display physical impairment, the people who have been chafing under his iron fist stop fearing him, Marcotte wrote. They start to rebel.Mary Trump also brought up a Daily Beast report that said her uncle accidentally boosted a post from a social media account calling for his impeachment. In other words, Donald promoted calls for him to be removed from office, she said. Its another day proving the obvious: Donald cannot tell his allies from his enemies, his days from his nights, or his own propaganda from uncomfortable truths about his failures.Cognitive DeclineFull Video | https://t.co/RDh3REJfGJ pic.twitter.com/M1TfldQbkD Mary L Trump (@MaryLTrump) November 29, 2025

Why Cyber Monday could break spending records despite economic uncertainty
Shoppers browse for Black Friday deals at Atlantic Station outdoor mall, Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, in Atlanta, Ga. (AP Photo/Megan Varner)2025-12-01T02:41:54Z NEW YORK (AP) Deals promoted as some of the best of the holiday season are expected to keep people across the United States glued to their computers and smartphones as the post-Thanksgiving shopping marathon wraps up on Cyber Monday. Its no secret that buying things online is now a staple of many peoples everyday routines. And year after year, those purchases mount during the gift-giving holiday rush. Experts expect consumers to drive record Cyber Monday spending this year, despite wider economic uncertainty.Adobe Analytics estimates that U.S. shoppers will spend $14.2 billion online Monday, or 6.3% more than in 2024. Spending is expected to peak between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. local time, when Adobe expects $16 million to pass through online shopping carts every minute nationwide.U.S. consumers already spent $11.8 billion online for Black Friday, $6.4 billion on Thanksgiving Day and another $11.8 billion over the weekend exceeding Adobes forecasts. Purchases made across Cyber Week the five major shopping days between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday provides a strong indication of how much shoppers are willing to spend for the holidays. AP AUDIO: Cyber Monday caps the post-Thanksgiving shopping marathon in US This could be a record-setting day for online sales. AP correspondent Mike Hempen reports. Cyber Week is off to a strong start, Vivek Pandya, lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights, said. Discounts are set to remain elevated through Cyber Monday, which we expect will remain the biggest online shopping day of the season and year. Deals on electronics and apparel are expecdted to peak Monday at 30% and 26% off average listed prices, per Adobes latest estimates. But other categories will still continue to see deep discounts including toys, which Adobe expects to reach 27% off listed prices. Meanwhile, software company Salesforce which tracks digital spending from a range of retailers, including grocers estimates Cyber Mondays online sales will total $13.4 billion in the U.S. and $53.7 billion globally. While the amount of money going into online shopping carts is expected to reach new heights Monday, rising retail prices also may contribute to any record sales figures that materialize. Consumers may be buying fewer total items. Experts say tighter budgets are causing many to shop with more precision than in years past such as focusing on a few big ticket purchases, for example, and spreading out what they buy over days of promotions in hopes of getting the most bang for their buck.Businesses and households have watched anxiously for financial impacts from U.S. President Donald Trumps tariffs on foreign imports. Workers in both the public and private sectors are also struggling with anxieties over job security amid both corporate layoffs and the after-effects of the 43-day government shutdown. For the November-December holiday season overall, the National Retail Federation estimates that U.S. shoppers will spend more than $1 trillion for the first time this year. But the rate of growth is slowing with an anticipated increase of 3.7% to 4.2% year over year, compared with 4.3% during last years holiday season. At the same time, credit card debt and delinquencies on other short-term loans have been rising. More and more shoppers are turning to buy now, pay later plans, which allow them to delay payments on holiday decor, gifts and other items. Buy now, pay later loans are expected to drive $20.2 billion in online spending this holiday season, according to Adobe, up 11% from last year. The firm predicted that buy now, pay later loans would pass a new $1 billion milestone on Cyber Monday, the vast majority involving purchases made on mobile devices.Overall, mobile devices have become the dominant shopping platform consumers are turning to for the holidays. Adobe expects smartphones, wearable tech and other handheld electronics to account for 58% of online spending this season.Five years ago, a majority of online purchases were made on desktops.Shopping services powered by artificial intelligence are also expected to play a role in what consumers choose to buy. For Black Friday, Salesforce estimated that AI assistants and digital agents contributed to $14.2 billion of the total $79 billion it said was spent online worldwide. Across the holiday season, hot sellers will include gaming consoles such as the Nintendo Switch 2 and toys-turned-fashion statements like Labubu Dolls, Adobe said. The analytics company anticipates the newest editions of popular consumer electronics including the iPhone 17, Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S25 will also see high demand. To many, Cyber Monday is billed as the last call to take advantage of the deepest discounts in the days following Thanksgiving. But its reach has grown over the years.Cyber Monday is two decades old now, dating back to when the National Retail Federation first coined the term in 2005. Today, sales continue to bubble up throughout the week riding on the hype that the industry has built to fuel consumer spending. Indiana lawmakers in state House to convene session with redistricting top of mind
Indiana Republican House Speaker Todd Huston leaves the podium in the house chamber at the Statehouse, Jan. 8, 2024, in Indianapolis. (AP Photo/Darron Cummings, File)2025-12-01T05:04:39Z Indiana House members are expected to press forward Monday with redrawing the states congressional districts in Republicans favor, increasing pressure on their defiant counterparts in the GOP-led Senate to meet President Donald Trumps demands.Republicans who control the House have said theres no doubt that redistricting will pass that chamber. But the fate of any proposal remains uncertain in the Senate. Republicans control that chamber, but caucus members have resisted pressure to redistrict for months. Senate leadership recently backed off its previous intentions not to meet at all, agreeing to convene next Monday. However, its still unclear whether enough senators will support a new map. Republicans hold seven of Indianas nine U.S. House seats. Trump and other Republicans want to make the map 9-0 in the GOPs favor, seeking to give the party two extra seats in the 2026 elections that will determine control of the U.S. House. Democrats only need to flip a handful of seats to overcome the Republicans current margin. Indiana House Republicans published a draft of a map Monday morning still featuring nine congressional districts, but with new boundaries designed to oust the states two Democratic U.S. House members. The city of Indianapolis would be split among four congressional districts, a major change to the current map where the city makes up the entirety of the 7th District, which reliably backs Democrats. Stay up to date with the news and the best of AP by following our WhatsApp channel. Follow on Indianas other current Democratic district is in the states northwest corner near Chicago. The new map would instead group a large portion of Republican counties in northern Indiana with the cities of East Chicago and Gary to make a new 1st Congressional District. Indiana lawmakers have been under mounting pressure from the White House to redistrict, like Republicans in Texas, Ohio and North Carolina have done. To offset the GOP gains, Democrats in California and Virginia have moved to do the same. But some Indiana Republicans have been far more resistant. Republicans in the state Senate rebelled against Republican Gov. Mike Braun in November and said they would not attend a special session he ordered on redistricting. The chambers top Republican, President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, at the time said the Senate did not have the votes. A spokesperson for Brays office did not respond Friday when asked if that is still the case. Meanwhile, Trump attacked Indiana senators on social media, particularly Bray. He swore to endorse primary opponents of defecting senators. A spree of threats and swatting attempts were subsequently made against lawmakers who either said they do not support redistricting or have not taken a stance. At least one lawmaker in favor of redistricting and Braun was also threatened. Last week, the House announced plans to convene in Indianapolis on Monday. All legislative business will be considered beginning next week, including redrawing the states congressional map, House Speaker Todd Huston said in a statement Tuesday. The Indiana Senate, where several lawmakers objected to leaderships refusal to hold a vote, then said members would reconvene Dec. 8. The issue of redrawing Indianas congressional maps mid-cycle has received a lot of attention and is causing strife here in our state, Bray said in a statement Tuesday. He said the Senate will finally decide the matter this month. __Volmert reported from Lansing, Michigan. Luigi Mangione fights to exclude evidence from trial in the killing of UnitedHealthcares CEO
Luigi Mangione is escorted into Manhattan state court in New York, Sept. 16, 2025. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig, file)2025-12-01T05:06:14Z NEW YORK (AP) As the first anniversary of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompsons killing looms this week, the man charged in his death will be in court fighting to prevent prosecutors from using evidence they say links him to the crime.Luigi Mangione, 27, is set for hearings starting Monday on his bid to block the Manhattan District Attorneys Office from showing or telling jurors about items seized during his arrest. Those items include a 9 mm handgun that prosecutors say matches the one used in the Dec. 4, 2024, killing and a notebook in which they say Mangione described his intent to wack a health insurance executive. After getting state terrorism charges thrown out in September, Mangiones lawyers are zeroing in on what they say was unconstitutional conduct that tainted his arrest and threatens his right to a fair trial. They contend that the gun and other items should be excluded because police lacked a warrant to search the backpack in which they were found. They also want to suppress some of Mangiones statements to police, such as allegedly giving a false name, because officers started asking questions before telling him he had a right to remain silent. Eliminating the gun and notebook would be critical wins for Mangiones defense and a major setback for prosecutors, depriving them a possible murder weapon and evidence they say points to motive. The Manhattan District Attorneys Office has quoted extensively from Mangiones handwritten diary in court filings, including his praise for Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. Stay up to date with the news and the best of AP by following our WhatsApp channel. Follow on In it, prosecutors say, Mangione mused about rebelling against the deadly, greed fueled health insurance cartel and said killing an industry executive conveys a greedy bastard that had it coming. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to state and federal murder charges. The state charges carry the possibility of life in prison, while federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Neither trial has been scheduled yet. Mangiones lawyers want to bar evidence from both cases, but this weeks hearings pertain only to the state case. The next hearing in the federal case is scheduled for Jan. 9.Court officials say the hearings beginning Monday could take more than a week. If that holds, Mangione is almost certain to be in court Thursday, which is the anniversary of Thompsons death.Defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo told a judge in an unrelated matter last week that Manhattan prosecutors could call more than two dozen witnesses. Thompson was killed as he walked to a Manhattan hotel for his companys annual investor conference. Surveillance video showed a masked gunman shooting him from behind. Police say delay, deny and depose were written on the ammunition, mimicking a phrase used to describe how insurers avoid paying claims.Mangione, the Ivy League-educated scion of a wealthy Maryland family, was arrested five days later at a McDonalds in Altoona, Pennsylvania, about 230 miles (about 370 kilometers) west of Manhattan.Prosecutors in the state case have not responded to the defenses written arguments. An officer searching a backpack found with Mangione was heard on a body camera recording saying she was checking to make sure there wasnt a bomb in the bag. His lawyers argue that was an excuse designed to cover up an illegal warrantless search of the backpack.Federal prosecutors, fighting similar claims in their case, have said in court filings that police were justified in searching the backpack to make sure there were no dangerous items. His statements to officers, federal prosecutors said, were made voluntarily and before he was taken into police custody. MICHAEL R. Tarot for sex and dating: the spreads queer people actually need
Many queer people are drawn to spirituality thats separate from organized religion. Practices like witchcraft, astrology, and tarot often hold more appeal and can be safe ways to tap into something larger than yourself. Tarot is especially accessible since you can do it at home with just a deck of tarot cards and questions on your mind. Tarot is an accepting and inclusive practice, so no matter what you believe in, you can get something out of pulling cards. So spread out a decorative tablecloth, light some candles, grab your Tarot deck, and listen to our LGBTQ+ tarot experts who are going to help you pull cards to figure out everything you need to know about that situationship youre stuck in, whether you should open up your relationship, and so much more. To get you the lowdown on everything you need to know about tarot, we talked to Jezmina Von Thiele, a queer, nonbinary Romani tarot, palm, and tea leaf reader and the coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling; and Danny Santos, a gay astrologer, Shaman, and spiritual healer at Santos and the Crystal Visions. How can Tarot be helpful for queer dating and relationships? Many queer people have the shared experience of being judged or rejected by organized religion, which is why so many people turn away from the church and toward spiritual practices like Tarot. Tarot can be a helpful tool for navigating queer relationships because it is spiritual guidance without spiritual dogma. Anyone can read tarot, regardless of belief and identity, and yet many marginalized people find comfort and direction in spiritual tools that have also been marginalized, Thiele tells PRIDE.Tarot is a great thing to start incorporating into your everyday life, especially if you are looking for guidance because it does not judge and requires you to be honest with yourself about what you need and how you feel, Thiele says. Its a magical bestie who doesnt sugarcoat things but does tell you what you need to hear, but through symbols, metaphors, and art. And whats more queer-coded than that? But Santos warns that while Tarot can help provide you with clarity and guidance, its not healthy to try to control your own emotional well-being through obsessively pulling Tarot cards. There have been many times where I was obsessing over a guy and hoping that he would call me back, meet up for another hookup, or that we would start dating, he reveals. But the truth is, other people have free will and the Tarot can reflect information back to you about the situation at hand, but its up to the individual pulling the cards to be willing to see the truth. I do believe the cards and the archetypes behind them are rich with knowledge, guideposts, and meaning, but if you want to know if a relationship is over and you keep pulling The Devil, girl, its time to wake up and smell the palo Santo! How should you pull the cards? There is no one way to draw cards so whether you choose the cards at the top of the deck or random ones that call to you throughout the deck, the important thing is to pick cards in a way that feels right to you.Luckily, our experts have broken it down, so that experts and newbies alike will know what cards to pull. For every question, Santos will give you a breakdown of how many cards you need to pull and what each card represents, while Thiele simply lays out what you need to be thinking about when you pull the three cards, then you can look up the symbolism for each card you select.Am I really ready for love?Santos advice: A simple past, present, future spread should be able to give all the information you need to know about how ready you are for love, he says. The first card will give a history over your dating life, the second card will show where you are at the present moment, and the third card will reveal what the result would be if you started dating or getting back into the dating game under the current circumstances.Thieles advice: 1. My heart 2. The wound. 3. The medicineIs this person really into me? Or is this a situationship/sex?Santos: For a question like this, Id recommend the one-card pull. While the Tarot can often feel cryptic, this is the type of question where less is more, and by pulling one card, meditating with it, and using it as something to research and meditate on can be incredibly helpful.Thiele: 1. You, 2. Your person 3. Your connectionIs this relationship healthy?Santos: My favorite spread when looking into the state of a relationship is something that Ive invented and I teach to my students in The Foundations of Tarot. Its what Ive named The Cauldron. This is a 3 card spread where you pull one card to represent you in the current relationship, the second card reflects the person youre asking about, and the third card is the energy that is created when you merge yourself and another person into one energy for a relationship.Thiele: 1. How youre feeling 2. The obstacle 3. The solutionHow can we move this stalled-out relationship forward?Santos: To move a stalled-out relationship forward, Id recommend the Clarifier spread. This is a two card spread that helps get clarity on the situation at hand or what is the best course of action to take. In this instance, you can pull the first card to ask about the current state of the relationship. Then, the second card can illustrate how to move the stalled-out relationship forward!Thiele: 1. Where youre stuck 2. Why youre stuck 3. The moveIs it time to define the relationship?Santos: The Window and the Door spread is an amazing tool to use for all of these questions. This is a two card spread that helps give more details into the dynamics of a relationship. The first card is reflective into the essence, potential, or the window, of what the relationship is. This card helps illustrate what is essential to be understood in order to move forward. The second card would be the doorway or the steps needed to be taken in order to make progress toward the window. We dont always need these massive 10 card spreads - often, less is more and will tell you everything you need to know.Thiele: 1. The vibe check 2. The potential 3. The approachIs the relationship over?Santos: To find out if the relationship is over, Id recommend the Yes or No spread that a mentor taught me over 10 years ago. Begin by shuffling the cards and drawing 5 cards from the deck. The more favorable cards in the spread the more positive the outcome, and vice versa. For a quick Yes or No without taking the images on the cards into consideration, draw 5. For every major arcana card or even number minor card, that would be a yes. Every court card or odd numbered minor card would be a no.Thiele: 1. Our connection 2. Whats left 3. What nextSources cited:Jezmina Von Thiele, a queer, nonbinary Romani tarot, palm, and tea leaf reader and the coauthor of Secrets of Romani Fortune Telling.Danny Santos, a gay astrologer, Shaman, and spiritual healer at Santos and the Crystal Visions.

New Study Finds Nearly 1 in 5 People on PrEP in the U.S. Get It Through MISTR
A new Emory University study confirms what many in public health have suspected: telehealth has officially reshaped HIV prevention in the United States. The research, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), highlights how MISTR is now providing HIV prevention care to 19% of all Americans using PrEP.The data, spanning 2018 to 2025, analyzed de-identified records from MISTRs national telehealth network alongside CDC and AIDSVu data. The findings illustrate just how dramatically prevention care has shifted online. More than one-third of MISTR users are uninsured, and over 80% completed at-home testing for HIV and STIs, including hepatitis screenings. The convenience and privacy of telehealth appear to be breaking long-standing barriers to care.A Model for Accessible PreventionUsing savings from the federal 340B Drug Pricing Program, MISTR reinvests funding to cover lab work, consultations, virtual visits, and prescriptions, not only for insured users but also those with no coverage. The study points to MISTR as a successful model for how 340B dollars can be used transparently to expand preventive care. The platform also offers free DoxyPEP, a preventive medication taken after sex, which has cut STI infections among its patients by nearly half. Researchers note that when preventive medicine is convenient, stigma-free, and financially accessible, people are more likely to use it consistently. This study is validation that our model works and that telehealth can help end HIV and reduce STIs in the U.S. without costing patients or taxpayers a penny, said Tristan Schukraft, founder and CEO of MISTR. When care is free, fast, and stigma-free, people use it.Lead author Dr. Aaron Siegler of Emory University said the results show how innovative access points are reaching people who often dont receive care in traditional medical settings.Breaking Stigma Through Community-Centered PreventionMISTR is not just a healthcare provider, its also a visibility powerhouse. Through social campaigns, nightlife activations, and community events, the platform has shifted how people talk about sexual health. Its National PrEP Day campaign reached millions online, helping normalize conversations around HIV prevention and building a culture centered on empowerment rather than shame.Harold Phillips, CEO of the National Minority AIDS Council, said MISTRs role is vital: Ensuring PrEP access is one of NMACs strategic pathways to ending the HIV epidemic among communities of color.Carl Schmid of the HIV + Hepatitis Policy Institute emphasized MISTRs impact on policy and efficiency, calling it an example of how 340B funds can drive real health outcomes.A New Era of Prevention: PrEP, DoxyPEP, and Long-Acting ProtectionMISTR and its sister platform, SISTR, are currently the only national telehealth providers offering completely free PrEP, whether or not patients have insurance. Users receive lab testing, physician consultations, prescriptions, and medication shipments at no cost.Patients can also bundle PrEP with DoxyPEP, a post-exposure antibiotic shown to significantly reduce the risk of bacterial STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. And the next phase of prevention is already here: MISTR is enrolling patients for Yeztugo, a long-acting injectable PrEP option that requires just one dose every six months. The Emory study closes with a call for policymakers to preserve the programs that make this level of access possible, including telehealth services and 340B funding.Because when prevention is free, stigma-free, and available from your couch, people use it, and lives change.Source

Hayley Williams Makes It Clear: Bigots Arent Welcome at Her Shows
Hayley Williams has never been shy about using her mic for more than music. The Paramore frontwoman, and now solo artist, has sharpened her message, this time not through a lyric, but through a hard boundary. In a recent interview with CLASH promoting her upcoming album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party, she drew a clear line: if you hold racist, sexist, or anti-trans beliefs, you are not part of the audience shes building. No Hate in the CrowdWilliams told Clash magazine that while she has always believed in open doors at concerts, those doors are closing for anyone carrying prejudice. Ive always said, all are welcome at our shows, she said. But I dont want racists around, and I dont want sexist people around, and I dont want people there who think that trans people are a burden. Her message is less about restricting entry and more about protecting community. She hopes that people who hold harmful beliefs will feel naturally out of place when stepping into a room built on acceptance, joy, and solidarity. As she put it, when they walk in and see fans united around something positive, theyre not going to feel welcome.Music With TeethWilliams solo work pushes even further into social commentary. One track from her upcoming album, True Believer, revisits her roots in Nashville and takes on heavy themes like racism, religious extremism, and cultural erasure. She admitted she wanted to write about these issues for years but only recently found the voice, and timing, to do it authentically. The song underscores a complicated pride in the American South. Its a beautiful area of not only the country, but the world, she said. Its so rich in culture and meaning, but were focusing on the wrong thing.Naming NamesWilliams has never danced around difficult topics. In an interview with The New York Times, she confirmed that lyrics in the albums title track referencing a racist country singer were directed at Morgan Wallen. The country star was recorded using a racial slur in 2021. Williams didnt flinch when naming him. Im always talking about Morgan Wallen. I dont care, she said. Her refusal to soften the truth reflects what fans have come to expect from her, not just catchy choruses, but conviction.More Than MusicWilliams comments dont just fuel headlines; they reflect a larger shift in live music culture. Concerts are no longer neutral spaces. Artists are staking their ground, defining their values, and asking audiences to do the same. For Williams, that means building a space where queer fans, fans of color, and anyone historically pushed to the edges of music cultures can exist not just safely, but loudly. That stage light isnt for everyone. And thats the point.Source

Heavy snow predicted for Northeast as Midwest still struggles with Thanksgiving weather snarls
A departure board lists delayed and cancelled flights at O'Hare International Airport, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, in Chicago. (AP Photo/Adam Schreck)2025-12-01T17:44:03Z PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Black ice, snow showers and fog pestered post-holiday travelers in the Midwest on Monday while the Northeast geared up for its first major snowstorm of the season.More than 8 inches (20.32 centimeters) of snow fell at Chicago OHare International Airport this weekend, setting a record for the highest single calendar day snowfall in November at the airport, according to the National Weather Service. The previous record was set in 1951.About 300 flights into and out of OHare had been canceled by early Sunday evening, while about 1,600 had been delayed, according to the tracking site FlightAware. Dozens remained canceled or delayed there into Monday, and commuting conditions on roads were expected to remain dangerous in some areas well into Monday night. In the Northeast, some parts of northern New England were expecting up to 10 inches (25.4 cm) of snow. A windy, potentially icy storm was headed to the region, and could soak some parts of the six states while piling snow in others, forecasters said. And with plowable snow expected to coat large parts of Pennsylvania, crews began to treat snow lanes along the 565-mile (909-kilometer) Pennsylvania Turnpike system on Monday, said the agencys press secretary, Marissa Orbanek. Vehicle restrictions on the turnpike systems Northeast Extension, from the Lehigh Valley to Clarks Summit, will be imposed at 5 a.m. Tuesday. More than 600 equipment operators and safety workers are available to help clear the turnpikes 2,900 miles (4,667 kilometers) of snow lanes, Orbanek said. The turnpikes winter staffing schedule began in mid-November, and 23 maintenance sheds are staffed around the clock. Stay up to date with the news and the best of AP by following our WhatsApp channel. Follow on We really prepare for snow all year long, Orbanek said. In Chicago, Don Herrian was among the crowds of travelers at OHare on Sunday, hoping to make it back home after Thanksgiving as hundreds of flights were delayed and canceled following a winter storm in the Great Lakes region. The 76-year-old retiree from Ardmore, Oklahoma, had visited his daughter and her family in Indianapolis. He said his first flight was three hours late, and his connecting flight to Oklahoma City from Chicago was already running another two hours behind. It is what it is, Herrian said. Its congested, but thats expected due to the snow, the delays and the holidays.Roads leading to OHare were packed Sunday with slow-moving vehicles even after the roads had been cleared of snow. Inside, delayed travelers crowded into gate seating areas, restaurants and sports bars to pass the time. Others grabbed spots on the floors of the terminals, snacking, knitting or scrolling their phones.Planes were being de-iced at several airports across the country on Sunday, including at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and MinneapolisSaint Paul International Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.Over 12 inches (about 30 centimeters) of snow had fallen since Saturday in areas close to Lake Michigan. Hundreds of churches in western Michigan told worshippers to stay home or watch services online. In Wisconsin, utility crews worked to restore power to thousands of people. We Energies reported more than 6,000 power outages, with more than half in Milwaukee and South Milwaukee. The airport in Des Moines, Iowa, reopened on the critical travel day after a Delta Connection flight landing from Detroit slid off an icy runway. No injuries were reported, and passengers were transported to the terminal by bus.By early Sunday evening, over 400 flights into and out of Detroit Metro Airport were delayed and over 45 were canceled, according to FlightAware.Elsewhere in Iowa, gusty winds on Sunday were blowing snow back onto roads, extending hazardous travel conditions, the National Weather Service said. We did have areas of Iowa and Illinois that saw over one foot of snow, said meteorologist Andrew Orrison. Over 16 inches (40 centimeters) of snow fell in Fort Dodge, Iowa, according to the National Weather Service. Orrison said snow in the Great Lakes region was tapering off, but the new storm was heading to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, with up to a foot (30 centimeters) of snow by Tuesday. Its going to be the first snowfall of the season for many of these areas, and its going to be rather significant, Orrison said. The good news is that it does not look like the major cities at this point are going to be looking at any significant snowfall.___Schreck reported from Chicago. 'Unauthorized' Edit to Ukraine's Frontline Maps Point to Polymarket's War Betting
A live map that tracks frontlines of the war in Ukraine was edited to show a fake Russian advance on the city of Myrnohrad on November 15. The edit coincided with the resolution of a bet on Polymarket, a site where users can bet on anything from basketball games to presidential election and ongoing conflicts. If Russia captured Myrnohrad by the middle of November, then some gamblers would make money. According to the map that Polymarket relies on, they secured the town just before 10:48 UTC on November 15. The bet resolved and then, mysteriously, the map was edited again and the Russian advance vanished. The degenerate gamblers on Polymarket are making money by betting on the outcomes of battles big and small in the war between Ukraine and Russia. To adjudicate the real time exchange of territory in a complicated war, Polymarket uses a map generated by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a DC-based think tank that monitors conflict around the globe. One of ISWs most famous products is its live map of the war in Ukraine. The think tank updates the map throughout the day based on a number of different factors including on the ground reports. The map is considered the gold standard for reporting on the current front lines of the conflict, so much so that Polymarket uses it to resolve bets on its website. The battle around Myrnohrad has dragged on for weeks and Polymarket has run bets on Russia capturing the site since September. News around the pending battle has generated more than $1 million in trading volume for the Polymarket bet Will Russia capture Myrnohrad. According to Polymarket, this market will resolve to Yes if, according to the ISW map, Russia captures the intersection between Vatutina Vulytsya and Puhachova Vulytsya located in Myrnohrad by December 31, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. The intersection station will be considered captured if any part of the intersection is shaded red on the ISW map by the resolution date. If the area is not shaded red by December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to NO. On November 15, just before one of the bets was resolved, someone at ISW edited its map to show that Russia had advanced through the intersection and taken control of it. After the market resolved, the red shading on the map vanished, suggesting someone at ISW editing permissions on the map had tweaked it ahead of the market resolving.According to Polymarkets ledger, the market resolved without dispute and paid out its winnings. Polymarket did not immediately respond to 404 Medias request for a comment about the incident.ISW acknowledged the stealth edit, but did not say if it was made because of the betting markets. It has come to ISWs attention that an unauthorized and unapproved edit to the interactive map of Russias invasion of Ukraine was made on the night of November 15-16 EST. The unauthorized edit was removed before the days normal workflow began on November 16 and did not affect ISW mapping on that or any subsequent day. The edit did not form any part of the assessment of authorized map changes on that or any other day. We apologize to our readers and the users of our maps for this incident, ISW said in a statement on its website.ISW did say it isnt happy that Polymarket is using its map of the war as a gambling resource.ISW is committed to providing trusted, objective assessments of conflicts that pose threats to the United States and its allies and partners to inform decision-makers, journalists, humanitarian organizations, and citizens about devastating wars, the think tank told 404 Media. ISW has become aware that some organizations and individuals are promoting betting on the course of the war in Ukraine and that ISWs maps are being used to adjudicate that betting. ISW strongly disapproves of such activities and strenuously objects to the use of our maps for such purposes, for which we emphatically do not give consent. But ISW cant do anything to stop people from gambling on the outcome of a brutal conflict and the prediction markets are full of gamblers laying money on various aspects of the conflict. Will Russia x Ukraine ceasefire in 2025? has a trading volume of more than $46 million. Polymarket is trending no. Will Russia enter Khatine by December 31? is a smaller bet with a little more than $5,000 in trading volume.Practically every town and city along the frontlines of the war between Russia and Ukraine has a market and gamblers with an interest in geopolitics can get lost in the minutia about the war. To be on the outcome of a war is grotesque. On Polymarket and other predictive gambling sites, millions of dollars trade hands based on the outcomes of battles that kill hundreds of people. It also creates an incentive for the manipulation of the war and data about the war. If someone involved can make extra cash by manipulating a map, they will. Its 2025 and war is still a racket. Humans have just figured out new ways to profit from it.

Swiss tennis star Mika Brunold comes out as gay despite the 'pressure to stay quiet'
Swiss tennis star Mika Brunold opened up about his sexuality in a revealing Instagram post. The 21-year-old athlete came out as gay when he took to Instagram and admitted that it was time to open up and share his sexual orientation with his fans. After writing that he has spent countless hours working on his game, body, and mindset, Brunold said that self-discovery has been the most important thing hes devoted time to. Through all of this, one of the most important things Ive learned is that success on the court isnt just about physical skill its about discovering your personality and staying true to yourself, he started his Instagram post.Brunold went on to admit hes felt like he had to hide the fact that hes gay from the public. And while it hasnt always been easy, hiding it and pretending to be someone Im not was never an option.Thats why I feel its time for me to open up and share with you that Im gay, he continued.See on InstagramBrunold also admitted that he felt pressure to stay quiet about being gay, a source of stress and anguish that straight people never have to face. Brunold wrote that in an ideal world, we wouldnt even need to come out at all, but that he felt it was important because he believes its not talked about enough in sports.Historically, tennis hasnt been a very inclusive sport, with very few out LGBTQ+ players, despite Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King both coming out in the early 80s.But things are slowly changing, and now not only is Brunold an out gay player, but sapphic Aussie player Daria Kasatkina made it to this years Grand Slam, and last year Brazilian gay tennis star Joo Lucas Reis da Silva became the first active male pro tennis player to come out publicly.
