This iconic queer term has officially been added to the Cambridge Dictionary
The queer slang term, Lewk, has officially been added to the Cambridge Dictionary, which defines it as a particular style, fashion, or outfit especially one that is unusual and impressive. Sample sentences provided after the definition include other common slang: Your lewk is giving Barbie; This girl knows how to serve lewks. Related This childrens book is a must for gay parents who want to teach kids about love & fashion The word was popularized by both social media and RuPauls Drag Race after originating in drag and queer subcultures. Internet culture is changing the English language and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary, Colin McIntosh, lexical program manager for the Cambridge Dictionary, told The Guardian, adding that only words with staying power are added. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Other words that were added this year include delulu, tradwife, and Skibidi. LGBTQ+ words have been increasingly added to dictionaries as queer culture continues to become more mainstream. In 2019, Merriam-Webster named the personal pronoun they as the word of the year. The same year, the publisher announced the addition of three new trans words: gender nonconforming, top surgery, and bottom surgery. The gender-neutral pronoun (along with themself) was also added. In 2022, the Oxford English Dictionary added a whopping 18 LGBTQ+ words, including gender-affirming, LGBTQ, gender expression, gender presentation, Enby, anti-gay, and TERF. In 2023, Dictionary.com added words like pinkwashing, queerbaiting, abrosexual, multisexual, polysexual, and the phrase gay marry as a verb. A few years earlier, it also added ace, biromantic, and deadname. It also replaced the words homosexual and homosexuality with gay, gay man, gay woman or gay sexual orientation, based on discussions with GLAAD and in accordance with American Psychological Association guidelines. Dictionary.comsaid it made these changes to avoid implying or suggesting that being gay or bi is a pathology. For example, we now define gayness as gay or lesbian sexual orientation or behavior compared to the outmoded gloss of homosexuality. These changes alone affect over 50 entries, they wrote in their update for September. The previously used terms homosexual and homosexuality originated as clinical language, and dictionaries have historically perceived such language as scientific and unbiased. But homosexual and homosexuality are now associated with pathology, mental illness, and criminality, and so imply that being gay a normal way of being is sick, diseased, or wrong. The website also changed the definition of words with the -sexual suffix, updating the phrasing of romantically or sexually attracted to to romantically, emotionally, or sexually attracted to.Not only do these revisions help eliminate heterosexual bias in language, they also help better convey the diversity and richness of and take Pride with a capital P in human sexual experience and identity,Dictionary.comexplained, also saying that they added a new entry for the word Pride that refers to events or recognition of LGBTQ+ people.Dictionary.com also declared woman its 2022 word of the year amidst the rise of the GOPs anti-trans agenda. Republicans spent the better part of that year trying (and failing) to prove that they could easily define what makes someone a woman. The website explained that the word continues to be a source of intense personal importance and societal debate and that it was inseparable from the story of 2022.Our selection ofwomanas our 2022 Word of the Year reflects how the intersection of gender, identity, and language dominates the current cultural conversation and shapes much of our work as a dictionary, the announcement continued, adding that at its highest point, searches for the word rose by over 1400%.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

What Counts as a National Emergency?
In his seven months back in office, President Trump has declared nine national emergencies, plus a crime emergency in Washington. Those emergency declarations have been used to justify hundreds of actions including immigration measures, sweeping tariffs and energy deregulation that would typically require congressional approval or lengthy regulatory review, according to a New York Times analysis of presidential documents.

Doctors in Gaza say patients protruding ribs and bony limbs offer evidence of malnutrition
A medical staff member prays in a room designated for sterilizing surgical tools, which also serves as a rest and prayer space for doctors and staff, at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, July 4, 2025. (AP Photo/Jehad Alshrafi, File)2025-08-23T14:00:03Z GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) Not long after Texas surgeon Mohammed Adeel Khaleel arrived at a Gaza City hospital in early August, a 17-year-old was brought in with gunshot wounds to both legs and one hand, sustained when he went to collect food at an aid site.In the emergency room, Khaleel said he noted the ribs protruding from the teens emaciated torso, an indication of severe malnutrition. When doctors at Al-Ahli Hospital stabilized the patient, he raised his heavily bandaged hand and pointed to his empty mouth, Khaleel said. The level of hunger is really whats heartbreaking. You know, we saw malnutrition before, back in November, already starting to happen. But now the level is just, its beyond imagination, Khaleel, a spinal surgeon on his third volunteer stint in Gaza, said in an interview. On Friday, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, or IPC, the leading authority on global hunger crises, said for the first time that parts of Gaza are in famine and warned that it is spreading. For months, U.N. agencies, aid groups and experts had warned that Israels blockade and ongoing offensive were pushing the territory to the brink. In the 24 hours following the famine announcement, eight people in Gaza died of malnutrition-related causes, bringing the overall toll of such deaths during the war to 281, according Gazas Health Ministry, which is part of the Hamas-run government and staffed by medical professionals. A U.S. medical nonprofit working in Gaza says one in six children under 5 is affected by acute malnutrition. Israel rejected the famine announcement, calling it an outright lie and pointing to its recent efforts to allow in more food after it eased a complete 2 month blockade in May. It has accused Hamas of siphoning off aid allegations disputed by the United Nations, which says Israeli restrictions and a breakdown of law and order make it extremely difficult to deliver food to the most vulnerable. Khaleel, who spoke to The Associated Press ahead of the announcement, said the evidence of deprivation was already clear. Just the degree of weight loss, post-operative complications and starvation that were seeing. That wouldnt surprise me at all if it was called famine, said Khaleel, who traveled to Gaza as an independent volunteer via the World Health Organization. At Gaza Citys Shifa Hospital earlier in the week, nutrition director Dr. Mohammad Kuheil led an AP journalist to the bedside of a thin-limbed girl. Aya Sbeteh, 15, was wounded in an airstrike. But her recovery has been set back by weakness from lack of food that her family says has reduced her weight by more than a third. All we have are grains like lentils, sometimes, said her father, Yousef Sbeteh, 44. Even flour is unaffordable. The sick, wounded and young are most vulnerableAnother patient, Karam Akoumeh, lay with sunken cheeks, his thin skin stretched like plastic wrap across his rib cage. His intestines were seriously damaged when he was shot while going out to collect flour, his family said, compromising his digestive system. Now he is one of 20 people at Shifa brought in for abdominal wounds and increasingly malnourished because of a shortage of intravenous nutritional supplements, the doctor said.Akoumehs father, Atef, said the lack of supplements compounded the hunger that reduced Karams weight from 62 kilograms (136 pounds) to just 35 kilos (77 pounds).I checked throughout all Gazas hospitals for it (the supplements), but I have not found any, he said.Israeli officials have pointed out that some of those said to have died from malnutrition had preexisting conditions. But doctors and other experts say that is to be expected, as famine first preys on the most vulnerable, including babies and small children. Doctors and others see signs of hunger everywhereOutside the hospital, the shortage of nutrients is equally dire, doctors and civilians say. There are no protein sources, only plant-based protein from legumes. Meat and chicken are not available. Dairy products are not available, and fruits are also unavailable, said Kuheil, the doctor in charge of nutrition at Shifa. In Gaza City on Friday, Palestinians displaced from elsewhere recounted a desperate search for food. Were starving. We eat once a day. Will we be more hungry than we are now? Theres nothing left, said Dalia Shamali, whose family has been repeatedly displaced from their home in nearby Shijaiyah. She said they spent most of their money over the last two years moving from one part of Gaza to another as the Israeli military issued evacuation orders. With Israel allowing more food in recently, the price of flour and other food items has been dropping, but the family still cant afford them, Shamali said. Hunger agency says famine is expected to spreadIn its announcement Friday, the IPC said famine in Gaza City is likely to spread across the territory without a ceasefire and a flood of humanitarian aid. Some of the IPCs conclusions were echoed in a report by a group that organizes medical missions to Gaza, which described a catastrophic rise in severe malnutrition among children and pregnant women. One of every 6 children in Gaza under 5 is now affected by acute malnutrition, said the report by U.S. nonprofit MedGlobal, based on observations by its staff in four of Gazas five governorates. The group warned that all young children in Gaza are at risk of starving without intervention.Khaleel, the Texas doctor, said he would leave it to others with more expertise to measure exactly what constitutes famine. But he knows what he saw in three weeks of treating patients in Gaza, most of the time at the hospital in Gaza City. Again and again, medical workers cut open patients clothing to treat injuries, revealing a loss of muscle and fat caused by hunger that left skin stretched tight over protruding bones. These patients, a number of them that were seeing are just exposed ribs, severely skinny extremities, he said. And you know that theyre just not getting calories in.___Geller reported from New York. Associated Press writer Sally Abou AlJoud in Beirut, Lebanon, contributed to this report. Texas Gov. Abbott vows to approve GOP-leaning congressional voting map
Visitors explore the rotunda into the late night as the Senate takes a recess before hearing more debate over a bill on a redrawn U.S. congressional map during a special session at the Texas Capitol in Austin, Texas, Friday, Aug. 22, 2025. (AP Photo/Stephen Spillman)2025-08-23T14:57:20Z AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday promised to quickly sign off on a new, Republican-leaning congressional voting map gerrymandered to help the GOP maintain its slim majority in Congress. One Big Beautiful Map has passed the Senate and is on its way to my desk, where it will be swiftly signed into law, Abbott said in a statement.Texas lawmakers approved the final plans just hours before, inflaming an already tense battle unfolding among states as governors from both parties pledge to redraw maps with the goal of giving their political candidates a leg up in the 2026 midterm elections. In California, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has approved a special election to take place in November for residents to vote on a redrawn congressional map designed to help Democrats win five more House seats next year. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has pushed other Republican-controlled states, including Indiana and Missouri, to also revise their maps to add more winnable GOP seats. Ohio Republicans were also already scheduled to revise their maps to make them more partisan. In Texas, the map includes five new districts that would favor Republicans. Democrats vow to challenge it in courtThe effort by Trump and Texas Republican-majority Legislature prompted state Democrats to hold a two-week walkout and kicked off a wave of redistricting efforts across the country.Democrats had prepared for a final show of resistance, with plans to push the Senate vote into the early morning hours in a last-ditch attempt to delay passage. Yet Republicans blocked those efforts by citing a rule violation. What we have seen in this redistricting process has been maneuvers and mechanisms to shut down peoples voices, said state Sen. Carol Alvarado, leader of the Senate Democratic caucus, on social media after the new map was finalized by the GOP-controlled Senate. Democrats had already delayed the bills passage during hours of debate, pressing Republican Sen. Phil King, the measures sponsor, on the proposals legality, with many alleging that the redrawn districts violate the Voting Rights Act by diluting voters influence based on race. King vehemently denied that accusation, saying, I had two goals in mind: That all maps would be legal and would be better for Republican congressional candidates in Texas. There is extreme risk the Republican majority will be lost in the House if the map does not pass, King said.Battle for the House waged via redistrictingOn a national level, the partisan makeup of existing districts puts Democrats within three seats of a majority. The incumbent presidents party usually loses seats in the midterms. The Texas redraw is already reshaping the 2026 race, with Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett, the dean of the states congressional delegation, announcing Thursday that he will not seek reelection to his Austin-based seat if the new map takes effect. Under the proposed map, Doggetts district would overlap with that of another Democratic incumbent, Rep. Greg Casar. Redistricting typically occurs once a decade, immediately after a census. While some states have their own limitations, there is no national impediment to a state trying to redraw districts in the middle of the decade. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2019 ruled that the Constitution does not prohibit partisan gerrymandering to increase a partys clout, only gerrymandering thats explicitly done by race. Fight fire with fireMore Democratic-run states have commission systems like Californias or other redistricting limits than Republican ones do, leaving the GOP with a freer hand to swiftly redraw maps. New York, for example, cannot draw new maps until 2028, and even then only with voter approval.Republicans and some Democrats championed a 2008 ballot measure that established Californias nonpartisan redistricting commission, along with a 2010 one that extended its role to drawing congressional maps. Both sides have shown concern over what the redistricting war could lead to.California Assemblyman James Gallagher, the Republican minority leader, said Trump was wrong to push for new Republican seats elsewhere. But he warned that Newsoms approach, which the governor has dubbed fight fire with fire, is dangerous. You move forward fighting fire with fire, and what happens? Gallagher asked. You burn it all down.___Cappelletti reported from Washington and Golden from Seattle. Associated Press writer Kimberlee Kruesi contributed to this report from Providence, Rhode Island. Texas Republicans perfectly represent the death of the Republican Party
The idea that politicians in the United States are puppeteered by special interest groups is nothing new. But at this point, its not clear what (if anything) the Republican party would actually stand for if those strings were cut. The party has become a shell that yells about principles while simply pushing the desires of organizations like the Heritage Foundation and enacting the whims of Donald Trump. While this has been becoming apparent for a while, the recent lies and hypocrisy coming out of Texas show just how deeply that rot has set in. Related Donald Trumps militarization of DC isnt about making streets safer. Its about fear. At Trumps prompting, Texas Republicans have redrawn congressional district lines for the next elections, something that is typically only done every ten years after a census. The move was explicitly made to gerrymander the state to provide Republicans with five additional seats in Congress so that the GOP can take firmer control of the House in 2026. Its a purely political move, aimed at consolidating power, not helping meet the needs of constituents. In response to this act by the Texas legislature, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is pushing to redraw congressional district lines in his state so that Democrats get five more seats to balance out Texas Republicans gerrymander. That plan still requires voter approval, which will be the subject of a special election in November. Republicans have been outraged by his actions, with California Republicans attempting to sue to prevent a vote on Californias redistricting from going ahead. That hypocrisy has been loud as California Republicans refuse to criticize their Texas counterparts, and Newsoms redistricting plan would only go into effect if Texas votes in favor of the gerrymandered redistricting. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today Earlier this month, when Texas Republicans wanted to vote on this redistricting, many Democratic Texas lawmakers responded by fleeing the state to keep the legislature from forming a quorum. Republicans and right-wing pundits have been irate about this tactic, suggesting that the Democrats were abdicating their responsibility and failing to represent their constituents. Those same concerns were not in evidence when, earlier this year, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) chose to recess Congress early. Johnson sent House members home rather than risk a vote on whether to make files associated with the investigation of child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein public. Again, its a move designed to preserve power by protecting Trump and other prominent political figures who might be mentioned in the files, not one aimed at protecting the interests of the people. When Texas Democrats did eventually return to the state, they were put under guard and required to get permission slips to leave the floor. It was under those conditions that the redistricting bill was passed. At the same time, Texas Republicans pushed through a sweeping anti-trans bathroom ban that will endanger the safety of both trans people and cis people who dont conform to subjective and traditional binary gender ideals. All of this was done during a special session that was supposedly held to provide time to address Texas recent floods, and Democrats were pushed to return for it through claims that they were failing to provide disaster relief by playing political games. Republicans notably didnt seem to value that disaster funding previously, when it could have actually prevented a disaster. Instead, they are now using the dead and grieving as a pawn to move another pawn (trans people) on their political chessboard. The Republicans, across the country but especially in Texas, have made it clear that they will use whatever means they can, not to push a moral agenda or a particular policy platform. Rather, their purpose is the advancement of the will of the hate groups and shadow organizations that support them and to prop up their would-be supreme leader. Prominent system theorist Stafford Beer stated that the purpose of a system is what it does. It doesnt matter what a system claims to be: if the output is different from that defined purpose and no one tries to change it, then that output is simply what the system is for. A tap delivers water, and thats its purpose. If it produces no water, then it is broken and needs to be fixed. If a tap that claims to produce water instead produces raw sewage and no one tries to change that, then the tap is now simply a raw sewage tap.So it is with the Republican Party. They have claimed to be fiscal conservatives, but every recent Republican government has ballooned the national deficit (the last Republican president to leave with a smaller deficit than he started with was Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1961). They claim to be the party of family values, but they dont support the polices that would help families and are attempting to roll back child labor laws. They claim to support the working class, but help to break unions and strip down workers rights and wages. And, of course, they claim to support the military, but their trans ban will cost the armed forces millions, decrease military readiness, and force out people who have devoted their lives to the country, all in favor of pushing the ideals of the religious groups that fund them.Whatever the Republican Party once stood for, it is no more. A lot of the blame for that can be laid at Trumps door, but he was really just the final nail in the coffin. At some point, they became far more obsessed with just holding power rather than with doing anything constructive with it. And that left the door open for them to be co-opted by hate groups and the authors of policy platforms like Project 2025.The party is already fractured between the traditional Republicans and the Trumpers: without a unified purpose, its hard to see how they come back from this in the long term.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

The 2014 Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act bans same-sex marriage and criminalizes all forms of consensual same-sex relationships and public displays of affection. In northern states governed by Sharia law, homosexuality is punishable by death. This isnt just about the law anymore, Philip, a queer rights activist based in Lagos, told News.com.au.Its about everyday people deciding they have the right to punish, beat, and humiliate queer people as a form of moral policing, then broadcast it for clout. And the internet is amplifying it. One source of that encouragement is well-known Nigerian TikToker S.K Records, who launched an online campaign earlier this summer called SOS, or Save Our Society.Taking a cue from other anti-LGBTQ+ activists in Africa, including elected officials, the influencer frames homosexuality as a Western threat to African values and encourages mob violence by an army of young Nigerian followers. The influencers so-calledmovementhas amassed thousands of followers in a matter of weeks. This kind of rhetoric gives mobs permission, said Philip, the Lagos-based activist. It tells them they are doing something noble. There is no safe place, he added. Not in the streets, not online, not even on a university campus.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

US seeks to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Uganda after he refused plea offer in his smuggling case
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, center, leaves the Putnam County Jail, Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, in Cookeville, Tenn. (AP Photo/Brett Carlsen)2025-08-23T14:47:03Z NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Immigration officials said they intend to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Uganda, after he declined an offer to be sent to Costa Rica in exchange for remaining in jail and pleading guilty to human smuggling charges, his defense attorneys told a court Saturday. The Costa Rica offer came late Thursday and included a requirement that he remain in jail, according to a brief filed in Tennessee, where the criminal case was brought. After Abrego Garcia left jail on Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement notified his attorneys that he would be deported to Uganda and should report to immigration authorities on Monday.Later on Friday, the government informed Mr. Abrego that he has until first thing Monday morning precisely when he must report to ICEs Baltimore Field Office to accept a plea in exchange for deportation to Costa Rica, or else that offer will be off the table forever, his defense attorneys wrote. They declined to say whether he is still considering the offer.Filed along with the brief was a letter from the Costa Rican government stating that Abrego Garcia would be welcomed to that country as a legal immigrant and wouldnt face the possibility of detention. An additional benefit of the offer would be that Costa Rica is a Spanish-speaking country, like Abrego Garcias native El Salvador. Abrego Garcia would only be deported to Costa Rica after serving his sentence on the smuggling charges, according to the brief. Abrego Garcias case became a flash point in President Donald Trumps immigration agenda after he was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March, despite a judges earlier determination that he faced a well-founded fear of violence there. Facing a court order, the Trump administration brought him back to the U.S. in June, only to detain him on human smuggling charges. Stay up to date with the latest U.S. news by signing up to our WhatsApp channel. He has pleaded not guilty and has asked the judge to dismiss the case, claiming that it is an attempt to punish him for challenging his deportation to El Salvador. The Saturday filing came as a supplement to that motion to dismiss, stating that the threat to deport him to Uganda is more proof that the prosecution is vindictive. Despite having requested and received assurances from the government of Costa Rica that Mr. Abrego would be accepted there, within minutes of his release from pretrial custody, an ICE representative informed Mr. Abregos counsel that the government intended to deport Mr. Abrego to Uganda and ordered him to report to ICEs Baltimore Field Office Monday morning, the brief says, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The smuggling charges stem from a 2022 traffic stop in Tennessee for speeding. There were nine passengers in the car, and officers discussed among themselves their suspicions of smuggling. However, Abrego Garcia was allowed to continue driving with only a warning. A Department of Homeland Security agent later testified that he didnt begin investigating the traffic stop until this April, when the government was facing mounting pressure to return Abrego Garcia to the U.S. Abrego Garcia has an American wife and children and has lived in Maryland for years. Although he was deemed eligible for pretrial release last month, he remained in jail at the request of his attorneys, who feared the Republican administration could try to immediately deport him again if he were freed. A recent ruling in a separate case in Maryland required ICE to provide 72 hours notice before initiating deportation proceedings time to allow a prospective deportee to mount a defense. An email from ICE sent to attorneys at 4:01 p.m. on Friday refers to that decision. Please let this email serve as notice that DHS may remove your client, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, to Uganda no earlier than 72 hours from now (absent weekends), it states. Uganda recently agreed to take deportees from the U.S., provided they do not have criminal records and are not unaccompanied minors.Federal officials have argued that Abrego Garcia can be deported because he came to the U.S. illegally and because a U.S. immigration judge deemed him eligible for expulsion in 2019, just not to his native El Salvador. Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Abrego Garcias lead attorney in the Maryland lawsuit against the Trump administration, said Saturday that the government is trying to use the immigration system to punish his client. There is a perfectly reasonable option available, Costa Rica, where he his family can visit him easily, but instead they are attempting to send him halfway across the world, to a country with documented human rights abuses and where he does not even speak the language, he said in a statement.

Take it from a queer economist: Women dont need men.
Economist, author, and mom Corinne Low is not only living her best life after her marriage in December to wife Sondra Woodruff, shes also a living example of the thesis from her forthcoming book, Having It All: What Data Tells Us About Womens Lives and Getting the Most Out of Yours.Women dont need men to live their best lives, according to the Wharton professor. Related LGBTQ+ partners in polyamorous relationships are slowly winning legal recognition and rights After a failed marriage to her sons father, the economist dropped men from the data sets she used in her search for the perfect partner, a real-life result of the heteropessimism plaguing women. The term, coined in 2019, describes straight womens disappointment with the opposite sex.Low provides reams of anecdotal and statistical evidence showing that men are less mature, less educated, and less emotionally available than their female counterparts. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today She also shows that even when men earn far less than their wives, their contribution to housework stays remarkably low. Unemployment can have adverse effects, too, making men with nothing to do nearly useless. In fact, womens time spent on housework actually fell after they divorced, while mens rose, indicating that men really can perform basic chores but simply elect not towhen theres someone else around to do it. For Low, having it all meant subtracting her male partner. In several ways, the gap between men and womens expectations has only widened in the last few years, with the rise of the manosphere on social media, the trad wives phenomenon, a natalist cult promoted by tech weirdos like Elon Musk, and the incel movement inspiring an anti-feminist backlash. In Low and Woodruffs housekeeping routine, meal-making and other chores for the family wont be the duty of one spouse or the other.Im not physically repulsed by men, Low joked in an interview with The Cut. Im socially and politically repulsed. Fortunately, Low says she falls somewhere around the middle of the Kinsey scale a measure of a persons sexual orientation on a continuum granting her more choices than other women.I know of few women who would say, Theres no man out there I would want to marry, Low says. Rather, these women are opting out of the options that are available in order to live their best lives. Many women are remaining single, according to the data, and making what Low describes as an evidence-based decision to pass on the current dating pool.Thats taken to extremes in some quarters, like South Koreas feminist 4B movement, which eschews any voluntary contact with men. Abandoning men, however, is not an option for most straight women, Low admits. I want them to set more boundaries, renegotiate things, reclaim their time, correct leisure inequality, she says. Not everyone needs to get divorced! But for many women, unhappiness can be traced to those data points, indicating men arent interested in a relationship that most women would term equitable. All Low can do as she has with steady stream of straight female students flocking to her office asking if they should break up with boyfriends is present them with the facts.Well, heres what the data says, she tells them.Low says the current fetishization of traditional womens roles is part of mens grieving their loss of privilege. They could eventually reach acceptance, she says. She and her wife arent waiting for that male come-to-Jesus moment, however. On a recent evening, their eight-year-old son joined them in making the dinner salad, with pickled onions hed prepared. Low says hes currently in training to be a not-useless man.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
