SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJeremy Fears Jr. gives Izzo his Big Ten engine backJeremy Fears Jr. withdrew from the 2026 NBA draft on May 27 and will return to Michigan State for his redshirt junior season, keeping the Spartans’ primary ball-handler and top offensive organizer in East Lansing for 2026-27. The decision, confirmed through his return announcement and his draft withdrawal, restores the one player on the roster who already proved he can run a high-level Big Ten offense possession after possession. For Tom Izzo, that changes the shape of next season right away. Michigan State no longer has to replace elite playmaking at point guard, and the offense can stay built around an experienced creator who already knows how to generate shots for himself and everyone around him.Why Fears changes the ceilingJeremy Fears Jr. did not just have a solid 2025-26 season. He averaged 15.0 points and 9.4 assists per game, led the nation in assists, and earned AP All-Big Ten first-team and AP All-America second-team honors during a breakout year detailed in his draft entry coverage. That stat line matters because it identifies exactly what Michigan State gets back. Fears is a proven high-volume distributor, and that is the hardest role to replace on a college roster. Teams can patch minutes on the wing or in the frontcourt. Replacing 9.4 assists per game is a completely different problem.ESPN’s player page lists Jeremy Fears Jr. at 15.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 9.4 assists across 35 games in 2025-26, reinforcing how steady his production was over the full season. That profile is available here.Michigan State keeps its offensive organizerThe biggest shift in the 2026-27 outlook is role certainty. Jeremy Fears Jr. is already established as Michigan State’s lead initiator, which means Izzo enters the offseason with the most important backcourt job settled. That gives the Spartans structure before anything else. Returning veterans and newcomers can slot around a point guard who already controls tempo, creates passing windows, and handles the ball in the spots that matter most.Without Fears, Michigan State would have been staring at a full reset in the backcourt. Someone else would have needed to absorb the decision-making, the passing volume, and the burden of creating offense late in possessions. With Fears back, that burden stays with a player who already handled it at an All-America level. The pre-draft process still matteredFears entered the draft on April 10 while maintaining college eligibility, which kept the door open for a return after going through the pre-draft process. That decision was part of his original draft declaration, and it gave him a chance to gather feedback without closing off Michigan State. His withdrawal came close to the deadline, which left uncertainty around the roster until late May. Once he pulled out and returned, Michigan State got clarity at the most important position on the floor. That timing is part of why the decision feels so important for the Spartans. Izzo now gets to build summer and fall around a known engine instead of spending those months searching for a new one.The honors back up the productionFears’ season was not driven by volume alone. The national recognition matched the numbers.Michigan State announced on March 31 that Jeremy Fears Jr. was selected to the John R. Wooden Award All-America Team, placing him among 10 players chosen for that group. The school’s release is here. That matters for next season because Michigan State is not bringing back a productive guard in a general sense. The Spartans are bringing back a player who was recognized nationally as one of the sport’s top performers and who now returns as the clear center of their offensive identity. Why this fits Izzo’s roster better than starting overIzzo’s best teams usually have clarity at point guard. Michigan State does not have to spend the offseason guessing who will settle the offense, who will deliver entry passes, or who will control the pace in late-clock situations. Jeremy Fears Jr. already owns that role. That continuity carries into every other lineup decision. Guards can play off the ball more naturally. Wings can run the floor knowing the pass can find them. Bigs can expect touches in rhythm instead of learning a new delivery system from scratch.College teams can look deep on paper and still stall if the primary creator is unsettled. Michigan State avoids that problem by bringing back the player who led the country in assists.Preseason expectations are going to riseJeremy Fears Jr.’s return also changes how Michigan State will be viewed nationally. ESPN’s draft coverage indicated a return would put him in position to be a preseason All-American, and that kind of player shapes how a roster is judged before a season even starts. Those projections still have to play out on the floor, but the baseline is different now. A team led by an All-America point guard with proven production starts closer to the top of the Big Ten conversation than a team trying to replace its offensive organizer in June. That does not guarantee Michigan State anything. It does mean the Spartans enter 2026-27 with the most important ingredient for a title push already in place: a point guard who has shown he can create efficient offense over an entire season. The next question for Michigan StateWith Fears back, the focus shifts from uncertainty to lineup optimization. Izzo now has his lead guard locked in, and the next question is which surrounding combinations turn Jeremy Fears Jr.’s playmaking into the most reliable scoring groups once the season starts.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWilliams expected to make comeback at Queen'sSerena Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles as well as 14 in women's doubles with sister Venus [Getty Images]Serena Williams is planning to make her eagerly anticipated return to competitive tennis at Queen's Club next month.Four years after the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion waved goodbye to the sport in New York, Williams is set to play doubles at the WTA 500 event in London in two weeks' time.Nothing has yet been finalised, but the 44-year-old has been free to return to the sport since 22 February, having completed six months back in the drug testing pool. The American great would need a wildcard, but there are two available for the grass court event which begins on Monday, 8 June.Wimbledon - where Williams has won seven singles and seven doubles titles - begins three weeks later.Patrick Mouratoglou, who coached Williams to 10 of her 23 majors, is not part of her team.Williams' long-time hitting partner Jarmere Jenkins and Rennae Stubbs - a former Australian doubles player who coached Williams at the 2022 US Open - are expected to work with her.The Served podcast, hosted by former men's world number one Andy Roddick, claimed Williams would play with 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko at Queen's.BBC Sport has not yet been able to confirm this.Williams is one of the greatest players of all time. Her 23 Grand Slam singles titles are the most by a woman in the Open era and second-highest of all-time among women, behind Margaret Court. She also won 14 major women's doubles titles with sister Venus - who is still playing on the WTA Tour - and the pair won three Olympic golds in the discipline.French Open Daily: Sinner shock exit & Serena return?Tiafoe gets racquet back after Instagram pleaThere are two doubles wildcards available for the tournament at Queen’s, and one is reserved for a team which includes a former world number one, a Grand Slam champion of the past 10 years or a current top-30 player.WIlliams has never liked the word retirement, preferring instead to say she was "evolving away" from tennis in 2022.She lost to Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open, in what the world thought would be her final match.Williams had reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open the previous year, and won her last Grand Slam singles title in Melbourne in 2017 at the age of 35.Her potential return comes amid months of speculation and several interviews about her weight loss.Last year, Williams told the Today Show in the US about losing 31lb (14kg) over the previous eight months. She said had to look at her extra weight as "an opponent". Despite "training five hours a day" and "running, walking, biking, stair climbing," she told the show she had no other choice but to "try something different".Williams would not say which weight loss drug she was taking, although she had just become a spokesperson for Ro, a company which sells GLP-1 brands like Wegovy and Zepbound (known as Mounjaro in the UK) through its weight-loss programme. Her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, is also an investor.Williams said she was now seeing the benefit of her hard work at the gym, was training for a half-marathon and "running farther than I ever had".In a follow-up interview on the Today Show in January she said she was "going to see what happens" over a return. The Lawn Tennis Association has consistently prioritised British players when determining who should receive wildcards at domestic grass court events. All four available for the singles draw are very likely to go to British players, but the LTA is likely to feel differently about the doubles given the "exceptional circumstances" of a potential Williams return."Never say never, and not wanting to speak of any one individual player, but you will have seen over recent years that those wildcard opportunities are afforded to British players - that is absolutely my fundamental personal belief and philosophy," LTA chief executive Scott Lloyd said at a briefing for journalists in April."There might be exceptional circumstances which might influence a unique wildcard, but otherwise those playing opportunities we want to afford to British players."The organisation’s performance director Michael Bourne also hinted commercial opportunities could be a factor."It's also really important to remember that we in the performance team understand that players have to earn that right,” Bourne said."We don't take them for granted. If we didn't think we had a depth of player where it was right for them to take those opportunities, and there was something else that was good for the business, we would hold our hands up."The day the French Open men's draw blew wide open'Not a robot' - Sinner had 'no energy' in shock defeatElder sister Venus has played intermittently on the WTA Tour over the past few years and reached the quarter-finals of the US Open women's doubles last year. She is 15 months older than Serena and has already played seven tournaments this year.Venus' last singles win came in Washington last July, a month after her 45th birthday.Martina Navratilova is the oldest woman to win a singles match at a Grand Slam in the Open era - at the age of 47 in 2004.She also played in the US Open doubles semi-finals in 2005 and won the US Open mixed doubles title a year later - just a month shy of her 50th birthday.Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMChiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reveals rehab progress during OTAsKansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the media on Thursday for the first time since returning to the field for phase 3 of OTAs. He shared an update on his knee recovery and participating in drills with teammates."It was good to be back on the field and just deal with the guys. I think more than anything, when you're some of those days, you're rehabbing, you're kind of here by yourself, or with a couple of the other guys. You get that juice whenever everyone gets back in the building," said Mahomes, "So it was good to be out there and be able to take part in a little bit of the practice. I wore a brace in college, so I'm on the same knee. So it's not too different from how I felt before, and so now it's just getting adjusted to it. I'm not like running and cutting and doing all that stuff in it yet, so I'll get another adjustment period at some point, but it's good to get these reps now, so I get to kind of speed up that adjustment period."Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL late during the Chiefs' Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He continues to rehab and is reportedly ahead of schedule with his recovery while participating in OTAs."I don't want to miss games. As a competitor, as a football player, I want to be there. I know it's still a long ways away – I can't predict the future. And so all I can do is be great today, and then continue to be great tomorrow," said Mahomes, "I've gotten to where I've gotten to because of that mindset. The goal at the end – the very far end – is to be ready and to be able to go out there and play with the guys Week 1 at Arrowhead (Stadium). But I gotta take it day by day."The three-time Super Bowl MVP finished the 2025 season with 22 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 14 games before the knee injury. He also rushed for 422 yards and five touchdowns."Yeah, I mean, I wanted to play, I don't want to miss games as much as possible. I know it's not in my control. It's in God's control at some point. I'm going to give myself a chance by the way I work to be the best I can be," said Mahomes. "I'm in a good spot now compared to where some people thought." But I thought I was going to be here. So, it's just doing what I'm supposed to be doing every single day. And hopefully, that gives me the chance to be out there with the guys whenever we start the season."There hasn't been any early decision as expected, but Mahomes and the Chiefs are still targeting a Week 1 start against the Denver Broncos on September 14.This article originally appeared on Chiefs Wire: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reveals rehab progress during OTAs0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGeno Smith knows he can write a 'superhero movie' story in his return to the JetsFLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Geno Smith knows what a lot of New York Jets fans are daydreaming about. The quarterback has been here before, a much younger and less-experienced version, of course. The Jets had only missed the playoffs the previous two years when Smith was selected by the franchise in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He has come and gone elsewhere — four other stops, actually — and that postseason drought has since reached 15 years, the longest among teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball. Smith is now 35 years old and back where he began his professional career, a comeback story with the potential to be special if he can help return the downtrodden Jets to the playoffs.“Yeah, I mean, that would be like a story in a movie, right?” Smith said Thursday with a smile. “It’s kind of like one of those superhero movies, but my life is based on reality. We've got to focus on getting better every single day." After a successful five-year stint in Seattle, where he began as a backup to Russell Wilson before becoming the starter, winning the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022 and making two Pro Bowls, Smith had a dismal season for lowly Las Vegas. He threw for 3,025 yards and 19 touchdowns — after having at least 20 in each of the previous three seasons with the Seahawks — and a league-high 17 interceptions. But the Jets desperately needed a veteran quarterback after a failed one-year experiment with Justin Fields and traded for Smith, sending a sixth-round pick to Seattle and also getting a seventh-rounder back.It was an unlikely reunion, especially since the quarterback's first stint with the Jets was largely remembered for the locker room incident in 2015 that left Smith sidelined with a broken jaw, the result of a punch from then-teammate IK Enemkpali. It changed the trajectory of his career with the Jets. He lasted one more season in New York before leaving.Because of all that, Smith acknowledged the surreal feeling he had being back at the facility — nine years later.“Coming in for physicals and just walking down the hall again — it was the very first hall I walked down when I got drafted — all those feelings come back,” Smith said. "Just great feelings, great memories, seeing my mom in the locker room, and I started just thinking about my first time in the NFL, first time here. Immediately, it clicked right back in: I've got to get to work. I just got right back to that. “I’m really excited to be here and even seeing all your faces again, it’s really cool.”Jets coach Aaron Glenn was in the team's scouting department during Smith's rookie season and he has watched the quarterback — mostly from afar — mature on and off the field in the years since. “Just the fact of how he’s grown from that time to now is outstanding,” Glenn said. “And he’s still growing, even being in the league as long as he has. And he will tell you that.”Linebacker Demario Davis, who's in his third stint with the Jets, played three seasons with Smith and also praised him for overcoming obstacles in his career and persevering.“He’s obviously walked through different things in life that’s brought his countenance and his spirit to a place of peace,” Davis said. “He’s very comfortable in his skin. He knows who he is. He’s arriving at this moment with his mind right, and you can feel it.” Smith's teammates rave about their quarterback's command in the huddle and having the presence of a true leader. He isn't sure when this Jets reunion will end, though. Or if it'll have that fairytale-like ending. “We want to be the best team in the world,” he said. “I don’t feel shy about saying that, but I understand there’s a lot of work to be done.”And Smith is focused on that. Each day he takes the field — again — for the Jets. “God has blessed me to play in the league this long and to have an opportunity to come back here, I’m very, very grateful for that, because they don’t come too often,” he said. "These opportunities, you have to cherish them and that’s the way I look at it — I really cherish this opportunity. "I really look forward to, again, just going to practice tomorrow and trying to get better. That’s the way I’m going to treat this entire year and the rest of my career.”___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMChiefs' Patrick Mahomes issues bold statement on playstyle post-ACL injuryChiefs' Patrick Mahomes issues bold statement on playstyle post-ACL injury originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes is on the comeback from his ACL injury suffered last season, and No. 15 has been a participant as the AFC West franchise began OTAs this week.Of course, Mahomes isn't full go, only participating in some drills with a big brace on his left knee.Having made it known early on that his goal was to start in Week 1, many think that is a lofty goal , and one that might not be attainable, but Mahomes has made up his mind -- he's going to do everything possible to make it happen. But when players do get on the field, we can see that they aren't themselves with the mental handbrake firmly applied, however Mahomes has assured fans that when he does step on that field, he'll be all gas, no brakes."I'm going to be honest with you, I know that whenever I get out there on the field and I feel like I can be Patrick Mahomes, I'll be Patrick Mahomes," Mahomes said. "I've never not felt like 100 percent; even when I have a sprained ankle I feel like I'm 100 percent of what I can be. So, I'm going to have that mindset when I get on the field, and when I get on the field, I'm going to be myself. I'm not going to hold back."MORE:Patrick Mahomes offers ideal injury update for Chiefs fansMahomes making good progress in ACL recoveryWe are only early in the offseason, but to have Mahomes already dropping back, throwing, and executing handoffs to his running backs, that is a great sign.Of course, we can't get too ahead of ourselves, as we know the path back to full health from an ACL injury is a long one. But Patrick is hitting his markers early in his recovery, and the fact that he's doing drills as OTAs begin is a good sign of what's to come.Yes, the Chiefs will be cautious, and Mahomes will be pushing himself as hard and as far as he can to make sure he's on the field in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. But will he be "Mahomes" when he does? He seems to think so.More NFL news:Analyst has grave concerns for Steelers' AFC North chances in 2026Are Chargers poised to break 17-year drought in 2026?Analyst has Chiefs as AFC West contenders with one huge if Lamar Jackson makes definitive statement on long-term future with RavensCommanders urged to sign Bills WR for Jayden Daniels0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCould the SEC actually govern itself? With college sports in dire straits, more options are on the tableMIRAMAR BEACH — As she exited the Sandestin Hilton here after the SEC’s annual spring administrative meetings, Donde Plowman, the Tennessee chancellor and chair of the league’s presidential board, had something on her mind.“Do you know how many firms on the Fortune 500 list were on that list 25 years ago?” she asked aloud. “It’s about 20%. Most organizations would rather die than change and most do die. I’m not saying we are dying. But we must change.”The SEC’s presidents and chancellors did not take action on any items this week. There was no vote on a future governance model, no decision on the long-discussed split from the NCAA or a creation of their own rules and enforcement. However, there are signs here that something drastic is afoot. For the first time since 2003, the league capped off spring meetings without a “business session,” where presidents normally adopt bylaw changes — an indication that the conference is possibly on its way to something grander this summer. Commissioner Greg Sankey offered subtle suggestions of impending decisions, telling reporters to “stay tuned.”And perhaps most notably, the league presented to its presidents and chancellors several future governance models on Wednesday during a closed-door session with the commissioner and conference staff, including — in a landmark moment — a collective bargaining framework.Though any bargaining model still seems a distant possibility — maybe years away? — the league’s willingness to explore such a revolutionary change is a notable move, especially this particular model, which included an infusion from private capital. It speaks to the frustrating landscape, as detailed in a story at Yahoo Sports on Tuesday, in which the conference finds itself: little regulation and enforcement on athlete movement and compensation.According to league leaders, the path is clear. If Plan A is congressional help — a Senate bill was released on Wednesday, though some of its contents are at odds with the league’s thinking — Plan B appears to be a conference-only governance model addressing several elements. The SEC is planning to go its own way, perhaps not yet for competition, but for rule-making and possibly enforcement, too.It is no longer just a threat, Plowman told Yahoo Sports on Thursday.“The first thing we start with is governing ourselves and not worry about what other leagues are doing and establish what we think is right,” she said. “I’m not afraid to look at collective bargaining. If we don’t get help from Congress, that will be out there.”The SEC could go its own way with a new governance model in the future. Maria Lysaker via Getty ImagesUniversity presidents and chancellors held what Mississippi State president Mark Keenum described as “healthy discussions” this week. The league’s executives “empowered” Sankey to return with more information on the modeling presented to presidents.Presidents are then expected to provide the conference with recommendations on the future by “mid-summer,” Keenum told Yahoo Sports. There exists an “urgency,” Plowman said, to implement anything before January’s football portal, when movement and compensation rates likely balloon even more.University presidents who spoke to Yahoo Sports declined to reveal details of the different governance models they were shown, but the paths seem clear: (1) self-governance while remaining within the NCAA umbrella and competing for national championships; (2) separating completely from the association, its rules and its championships; (3) and/or implementing an athlete bargaining structure from the conference level or through an outside third party (the most complicated option).Nothing appears off the proverbial table. The bill that was announced on Wednesday from Sens. Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell provides many concepts that the league is presumably discussing creating internally in a self-governance model: a one-time transfer, five-year eligibility and ban on pro players; tampering and agent regulations; and stricter athlete compensation enforcement. But leaders are exhausted of waiting on Congress, they say. While a Senate hearing on the bill looms next Wednesday on Capitol Hill, the SEC is moving forward with its “Plan B.”“We owe it to ourselves to pursue another parallel path and that path should include collective bargaining,” said Oklahoma athletic director Roger Denny, one of the most outspoken leaders on change.“Plan B is going to have to be Plan A and no Plan B is devoid of collective bargaining,” said another university president.Reform the CSC or go it alone? But first, as Plowman said, the league is marching down a path of creating and enforcing its own rules while still — at least for now — intending to make reforms to the College Sports Commission, the enforcement entity where millions in submitted NIL cash goes unapproved. Executives are debating reform ideas, such as exempting a portion of the deals under review if they are within a certain scope of the CSC’s range-of-compensation metric, as well as increasing the de minimis threshold from $2,500 to a larger figure like $10,000 (ie: deals of $10,000 or less would get immediately approved).More long-term reforms are expected later, such as discussions related to increasing the revenue-share cap, adding a luxury cap for over-spenders and key changes to the associated entity definition — the latter of which may be determined soon by a judge (there is a June 10 hearing over the matter).“We’ve got to abide by the rules we set. We are committed to doing that. That’s the first thing,” said Plowman, who is on the CSC’s eight-member board, along with a university president from each of the power leagues and their corresponding commissioner. “Now that we are on the board … we will be part of the rule-making. I want to help [CSC CEO] Bryan Seeley be successful.“Let the CSC do its business,” she continued. “If they say a deal doesn’t go, it doesn’t go or you go to arbitration and then you accept the outcome. If we need to give CSC feedback and amend this process, we can.”Seeley is open to change and wants to “enforce the rules that people want enforced.” The hangup is gaining consensus among the conferences in reforms, something that Seeley is “helping facilitate,” he said. For some, the CSC situation is dire. More than $100 million promised to athletes, much of it from the SEC and Big Ten, is held up in the system.“Schools that are not able to get a lot of their deals through right now in NIL Go [clearinghouse], are upset about that,” Seeley told reporters here earlier this week. “They think their deals should go through and we’re not enforcing the rules correctly with respect to them. One thing I will say is we are enforcing the rules consistently in NIL Go.”Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin says the CSC and Seeley are “trying to do what’s asked of them,” which he called a “herculean task.”“If the CSC is going to be successful, it’s probably going to take three to four years,” he said. And what of the deals held up in the system?“It’s almost like this market was set and then the CSC appeared,” Stricklin said. “I don’t know how you put that back without disenfranchising kids.”The SEC, as well as any one of the other power conferences, can make changes to the revenue-share cap if they submit such a request to the House settlement plaintiff attorneys, co-lead attorney Jeffrey Kessler told Yahoo Sports. But if such a request holds consensus among all conferences, the request has a better chance of approval from the settlement’s magistrate judge, he said.Any conference-only governance model may include a higher cap while also offering the league the ability to set rules and evade legal challenges considering its smaller membership group (from 350-plus in NCAA Division I to 16 in the SEC).However, self-governance is a lengthy process, Stricklin said, and if national competition ends, that’s “a line you are crossing for which there is no return.”Does the SEC support the new Senate bill?As for the Senate bill, Sankey declined to take a public position on the 111-page legislation — does the SEC support it or not? — but he responded to the bill’s language that some believe targets his conference and the Big Ten in certain ways (prohibiting a merger, expansion and the pooling media rights concept)."If someone chooses to write legislation that focuses on us because we’ve done things so well, I look forward to learning that explanation,” he said. Before his news conference here, the league distributed to reporters a one-page statement from university presidents reaffirming their position against the consolidation of media rights — an optional concept included in the Senate bill.“Those who advocate [for pooling rights] have represented things to me about how revenue would be distributed generally,” Sankey said, “and I think they have no idea how hard those conversations would be. No idea.”What may be just as difficult: implementing a self-governance system, enforcing your own rules and, perhaps eventually, limiting who you play.“l think we’d want to play with the schools following the rules,” Georgia president Jere Morehead told Yahoo Sports in January in a story that first publicized the SEC’s serious conference-only governance efforts in the absence of national enforcement. So, what’s next?“Stay tuned,” Sankey said. The room of reporters stared at him unsatisfied with such an answer.“Why would I announce what might happen when it hasn’t happened?” Sankey responded. “What happens next will happen next. It hasn’t happened now.”0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFeds Say Terry Rozier Took $70K Bribe in Sports Betting CaseTerry Rozier’s legal troubles over allegations he was involved in an illegal sports betting scheme just escalated.Federal prosecutors added two new counts against Rozier—including the anticipated allegation that he took a bribe—in a superseding indictment made public Thursday. The other new count is “honest services wire fraud conspiracy,” making it four total counts against Rozier in the sprawling gambling scandal that first exploded in October. The others are conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. The superseding indictment includes no new games in which Rozier is accused of point shaving or taking himself out early. The new information all relates to the same game that was included in the original indictment, a March 23, 2023, matchup in which the Hornets lost to the Pelicans 115-96.Rozier, on the Hornets at the time, was previously accused of informing his childhood friend, Deniro Laster, that he would pretend to be hurt and “prematurely remove himself from the game in the first quarter.” Laster, also a defendant, was accused of selling that information to multiple co-conspirators, who bet the under on multiple Rozier statistics for about $100,000. Rozier did as he said, removing himself from the game after less than 10 minutes and never returning. He scored five points (including a three-pointer) and had two assists, well below his averages of about 21 points, 5 assists and 2.6 threes. The superseding indictment goes a step further, saying Rozier agreed to do this in return for a roughly $100,000 bribe, and that he committed to give a portion of that money to Laster. Rozier only ended up receiving a bribe of about $70,000, the indictment says, because he finished with four rebounds and therefore “went over his betting line.”Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, wrote in an emailed statement to Front Office Sports, “the superseding indictment just confirms that our motion to dismiss was righteous – new charges, new theories, but all just a misplaced effort to make something stick.”The motion to dismiss, filed in December, blasted the evidence against Rozier as weak and cited U.S. Supreme Court precedent he said dooms the government’s case. The superseding indictment indicates that prosecutors have been gleaning information from some defendants who originally professed innocence. One, Marves Fairley, changed his plea to guilty Thursday on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, and said he “agreed to pay a player to change their game performance to give me an advantage.” The government says that player is Rozier.Fairley was the second person to plead guilty in the case. Last month, former NBA player and assistant coach Damon Jones said he would change his plea to guilty. The sports betting scandal was one of two cases revealed in October that, in total, featured 34 arrests. The other was an alleged mafia-backed poker ring in which Chauncey Billups was allegedly involved. Billups pleaded not guilty, and the judge is targeting a November trial for the poker case. A trial date for the betting case has not been set.Rozier was traded to the Heat in 2024. Miami waived him last month to make a roster spot available for the play-in tournament. Rozier has been on leave since his arrest, but in February an arbitrator ruled that he still has to receive the $26.4 million he was owed by the Heat this season. The post Feds Say Terry Rozier Took $70K Bribe in Sports Betting Case appeared first on Front Office Sports.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

While speculation about DeMarcus Lawrence’s potential retirement has been on a smooth, downward slope since the Super Bowl, all fears seem to have been officially laid to rest. The 2025 Seattle Seahawks team leader in forced fumbles and recovered fumbles returned to the field on Thursday. The team posted a video of Lawrence arriving for OTAs. This marks the 13th NFL season for which he has begun preparation. 0️⃣ pic.twitter.com/jkxh5mjIV9— Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) May 28, 2026“Yeah, he’s on his plan,” Mike Macdonald said on Tuesday when asked about Lawrence. “He’s working through some things. But he’s in great spirits. He’ll be here at some point.”This is not – as some might call it – ‘new’ news, but let it be an encouragement to the soul of 12s everywhere. Lawrence gave no indication whatsoever in ‘25 that his style of play has yet become hampered. On the contrary, he was highly disruptive last season, being named the best free agent signing of 2025 and tying his career-high Approximate Value per Pro Football Reference. The Seahawks signed Dante Fowler Jr. in the absence of Boye Mafe, but the team returns Lawrence, Derick Hall, Leonard Williams, and Byron Murphy as one of the most ferocious defensive fronts in the NFL.Thirteen seasons at defensive end. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRepublic of Ireland win disrupted by Israel fixture protestsInternationalsRepublic of Ireland 1 - 0 Qatar FTThe game was briefly stopped twice in the first half [Getty Images]The Republic of Ireland's friendly win over Qatar in Dublin was twice briefly disrupted by fans protesting against the home side's upcoming fixtures with Israel. After Republic of Ireland captain Nathan Collins headed the game's only goal, tennis balls featuring the Palestine flag were thrown on to the Aviva Stadium pitch around the 10-minute mark. When tennis balls again rained down on the field for the second time after 20 minutes, the players used the stoppage as a hydration break on the sidelines. After the game, RTE reported that protesters were ejected from the ground. The Republic of Ireland are set to face Israel in Group B3 of the Nations League at an expected neutral venue on 27 September before the return fixture in Dublin on 4 October.Pressure has grown in Ireland for a boycott of those games because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign having held a protest at the Dáil (Irish parliament) on Tuesday. The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) confirmed the games will go ahead, with CEO David Courell saying the governing body had "no choice" and could face "serious consequences" if it pulled out of the games.Earlier this week, Collins said that if individual players felt strongly enough to boycott the games, "we are not going to stand against them", while manager Heimir Hallgrimsson feels it's "unfair for the players to be in this position".Experienced defender Seamus Coleman also said the situation "should have been dealt with above us". The protest sparked memories of a similar incident in 2019 when the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 qualifying win over Georgia in Dublin was disrupted by Irish fans throwing tennis balls on to the pitch in protest against John Delaney remaining in the FAI hierarchy. Asked about the protests after the game, Hallgrimsson told RTE: "I would have liked to have it in the second half, if they do it again just to kill time in the second half, when we were killing time."Everybody has a right to protest, it just kills the game."If they want to destroy the game for us, so be it. It is obviously not fun to see especially for us who are trying to think about the football side."McGrath expects Israel fixtures controversy to 'heat up'Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson helped clear the tennis balls off the pitch [Getty Images]Republic of Ireland analysis: Red card cuts short impressive Moylan home debutDespite it being a low-stakes end-of-season friendly for the Republic of Ireland, Hallgrimsson fielded a strong side featuring eight players who started the World Cup play-off defeat by the Czech Republic in March. And when Collins glanced a Jack Moylan free-kick into the corner after just five minutes, the 28,891-strong crowd perhaps expected a barrage of goals. But it was not to be. Despite the interruptions in the first half, the hosts dominated the game, but their standout player Jack Moylan's home debut ended in tears when he was shown a straight red card just before half-time. Moylan was dismissed by referee Jamie Robinson for a studs-up challenge on Qatar's Jassem Gaber, which Hallgrimsson called "the wrong decision". The 24-year-old Lincoln City forward was visibly upset as he left the field as an eye-catching display was unceremoniously cut short. In addition to setting up Collins' goal, Moylan - who scored a debut hat-trick against Grenada earlier this month - had been a livewire in the Irish attack, his willing runs giving the home side a decent outlet. His early exit paved the way for a largely uneventful second half, although both teams finished the game with 10 men after Almoez Ali was red carded for an off-the-ball clash with Jayson Molumby 12 minutes from time. While a second goal eluded the hosts, the World Cup-bound visitors - managed by former Real Madrid, Spain and Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui - were unable to find an equaliser. And as the game petered out, Hallgrimsson handed debuts to Lecce's Corrie Ndaba, Benfica's Jaden Umeh and Tottenham forward Mason Melia. What's next? The Republic of Ireland travel to Montreal to face World Cup co-hosts Canada on 6 June (00:30 BST)Qatar face El Salvador in their final game on 6 June before taking on Switzerland, Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup group stage0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMcGrath expects Israel fixtures controversy to 'heat up'Republic of Ireland fans threw tennis balls featuring the Palestine flag on to the pitch during Thursday's game [Getty Images]Republic of Ireland midfielder Jamie McGrath says he expects the controversy surrounding the side's upcoming Israel fixtures to "heat up" after Thursday's friendly win over Qatar was disrupted. The Aviva Stadium game - which the Republic of Ireland won 1-0 thanks to Nathan Collins' early header - was twice briefly interrupted in the first half when home fans threw tennis balls featuring the Palestine flag on to the pitch. After the game, RTE reported that protesters were ejected from the ground, and McGrath expects more backlash before the Republic of Ireland face Israel in a neutral venue on 27 September and 4 October in Dublin in the Nations League. Earlier this week, Republic of Ireland stalwart Seamus Coleman said the situation "should have been dealt with above us"."I obviously listened to Seamus' interview and I think he was spot on," McGrath told BBC Sport NI. "It's obviously a unique scenario. The people [protesters], we have to listen to them, they have the right to do what they do, as long as it's done in a peaceful way, that's all that matters."I'm sure it's going to heat up over the next few months. Like I said, we don't want to be put into a position. Hopefully the powers above us can work something out or use it for the greater good, I'm not sure what the process will be as it heats up."At the end of the day, we're footballers and we don't want to be caught in this, but sometimes we might have to."Republic of Ireland win disrupted by Israel fixture protestsPlayers won't be stopped from taking stand - Collins on Israel fixtures'We shouldn't be in this position' on Israel games - ColemanPressure has grown in Ireland for a boycott of those games because of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign having held a protest at the Dáil (Irish parliament) on Tuesday. The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) confirmed the games will go ahead, with chief executive David Courell saying the governing body had "no choice" and could face "serious consequences" if it pulled out of the games.Earlier this week, Collins said that if individual players felt strongly enough to boycott the games, "we are not going to stand against them", while manager Heimir Hallgrimsson said if protesters "want to destroy the game for us, so be it" after the Qatar game.Asked if there is confidence within the squad about a resolution, McGrath added: "To be honest, I've no idea."We obviously touched on it a few days, I'm sure as it heats up it might be taken out of our hands, I'm not sure."0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBoulter loss means no Brits in singles third roundKatie Boulter was trying to reach the third round at Roland Garros for the first time [Getty Images]Katie Boulter lost in a deciding set to 28th seed Anastasia Potapova, ending British interest in the singles competitions at the French Open.Francesca Jones also lost in the second round while Emma Raducanu, Cameron Norrie, Jacob Fearnley and Toby Samuel went out in round one.Boulter, who was targeting a first appearance in round three at Roland Garros, came out on top of an untidy opening set which included seven breaks of serve. However, whereas Potapova found her rhythm on serve, Boulter was broken twice more in each set as the Russian-born Austrian won 5-7 6-4 6-2.Potapova will face defending champion Coco Gauff in round three as she bids to reach the second week of a major for only the second time in her career.Boulter had reached the second round in uncertain fashion, being taken to three sets by teenage American wildcard Akasha Urhobo. Her performance on Monday was characterised by poor serving and groundstroke errors, with the 29-year-old producing 35 unforced errors, including seven double faults, to 24 winners and having her serve broken five times. At times, it was a frustratingly similar story against Potapova and unlike Grand Slam singles debutant Urhobo, the 25-year-old - enjoying a career-best clay-court swing which has seen her climb from outside the top 90 to 30th in the world - was able to capitalise.Boulter held serve in the first game of the opening set before a run of six consecutive breaks of serve, and the Briton eventually closed out the set with her fourth break. However, a resurgent Potapova broke twice in the opening five games of the second set, including Boulter conceding a break to love with a double fault, and although the British number three saved three set points as she fought back from 5-1 to 5-4, she could not avoid being taken to a decider.Potapova, who was only broken once in the final two sets, converted both of her break points in the third to complete the win in clinical fashion. The day the French Open men's draw blew wide open'Not a robot' - Sinner had 'no energy' in shock defeatBoulter has struggled on clay throughout her career, only winning her first WTA-Tour level match on the surface in 2025. Despite winning just four clay-court matches across five tournaments this season, Boulter feels like she is making positive steps."I have to keep reminding myself that I got my first win on clay last year and I'm here now testing some of the better players on a clay court and that is important to me," Boulter told BBC Radio 5 Live."I'm taking the steps towards where I feel like I need to be on a clay court. It's taking time but I do think that today was one of the better matches I've played."I think I found my identity really well on the court and I just went after it. I started to commit to my shots and see where I was winning points and start gravitating towards that more."Frustratingly, it was not her groundstrokes or being outfoxed by the conditions which cost her against Potapova, but her serve. Boulter hit 10 double faults to just one ace, her first-serve percentage down at 54% and she only won 36% of points behind her second serve, while only 16 of her 51 unforced errors were groundstrokes."I've hit a couple of double faults in big moments but, at the same time, I think I'm also trying to improve my serve," she said in her main press conference."I'm not necessarily holding back, and I'm not just trying to push the ball in the court and run."I'm pleased with the way it's going towards my goals. It's a work in progress. It's going to be good days and bad days. I think I'm pretty level-headed about it."Boulter has been struggling to shake off an illness in recent days and, moving forward, she said her "number one priority" is returning to full fitness for the upcoming grass-court tournaments.Williams expected to make comeback at Queen'sTiafoe gets racquet back after Instagram pleaSabalenka and Gauff safely throughWhile top seeds such as Jannik Sinner have tumbled in the men's draw, world number one Aryna Sabalenka and 2025 champion Gauff advanced with straight-set wins.Sabalenka, pursuing her maiden French Open title, won five consecutive games as she took the first set and raced into a 3-0 lead in the second against France's Elsa Jacquemot.Although she was broken while serving for the match, the 29-year-old immediately broke back to 15, converting her first match point to win 7-5 6-2 and set up a third-round tie with Daria Kasatkina.Fourth seed Gauff only lost five games as she beat Mayar Sherif 6-3 6-2.However, it was far from a routine win for the two-time Grand Slam singles champion, who was broken four times across the match but replied with seven breaks of her own.Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBig 12 coaches unanimously agree on their preference for a 24-team playoffFRISCO, Texas (AP) — Big 12 coaches unanimously agreed Thursday on their preference for a 24-team College Football Playoff, a scenario in which the conference would have had five playoff teams last season instead of only league champion Texas Tech like it did in the current 12-team playoff format. When the 16 coaches were informally polled about doubling the size of the playoff field during one of their sessions at the Big 12 spring meetings, all of them raised their hands. “They should ask coaches for more opinions on what's best for college football,” West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said. “We voted and it was unanimous. ... Who knows where that goes.”Scott Draper, the league's chief competition officer, said the coaches took part in an hour-plus presentation by the CFP staff.“If the 24-team playoff started last year, we would have had five teams in,” Draper said. “We were the second-ranked conference, strength of conference, in their metrics last year. So I'm confident that we'll be well-represented in a 24-team playoff.”Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark has expressed his support for a 24-team playoff if the economics of such an expansion make sense. Yormark is scheduled to address reporters Friday at the end the league's spring meetings. League runner-up BYU's only two losses last season were to Texas Tech, first in the regular season and then in the Big 12 championship game. The Cougars were 12th in the final CFP rankings last year, but they and No. 11 Notre Dame were left out of the playoff because of automatic qualifiers that instead got into the field. Three other Big 12 teams were in that final poll: with Utah 15th, Arizona 17th and Houston 21st.Texas Tech was fourth in the CFP rankings and got a first-round playoff bye before losing to Oregon in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.A 24-team playoff would eliminate automatic qualifiers and render conference title games virtually meaningless. Because the Big Ten and SEC haven’t been able to agree on the playoff format, it remained at 12 teams for the upcoming season. (KDFW FOX 4 via AP)2026-05-28T19:26:16Z DALLAS (AP) — A huge fire destroyed a two-story apartment building in Dallas on Thursday, causing fatalities and injuring at least four people, and the search for the missing is ongoing, a fire official said. The blaze sent huge plumes of black smoke into the sky and drew a massive firefighter response.“There have been fatalities at this point,” Dallas Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Mark Berry said at a news conference, adding the mission has changed from rescue to recovery. “Let us work through the recovery phase and get a total number.”Dozens of firefighters searched through the smoldering rubble of the building on the outskirts of downtown Dallas Thursday afternoon, even as colleagues continued to drench the blackened debris.Berry said firefighters were responding to a call of a gas leak when an explosion happened. “We had the cavalry coming,” Berry said, “But the explosion had already taken place.” City officials said there was no city maintenance work being done at the scene at the time of the explosion.Assistant Chief James Russ of Dallas Fire-Rescue said during an earlier news conference that at least four people were taken to a hospital with injuries. Firefighters rushed to the scene as flames and black smoke billowed into the sky. Some trained their hoses on piles of smoking debris while others removed lumber and other burned wreckage to look for anyone trapped underneath. Little more than a blackened shell of the original building remained. Read More “The fire is contained, but our members are still working on the scene to do primary searches,” Russ said. Authorities set up a family reunification center at a nearby high school. Several hours after the blaze, Frances Rizo was still trying to find her friend who lived in the building.“She’s not answering her phone,” Rizzo said. Julie Jensen said she was at home less than a block from the burning building when she heard a noise like an explosion that left her ears ringing. “I was sitting on my couch watching TV — stuff flew off our walls,” Jensen said. Jensen said she saw rising smoke and neighbors running when she looked out the window. She grabbed her family’s cat and left, finding a nearby parking lot to wait until she knew it was safe to return.Sal De La Rosa was at work at a nearby auto repair shop when “all of a sudden we just heard and felt this huge boom.”“We felt where the building kind of shook a little bit,” Del La Rosa said.He said a co-worker went outside and saw thick, black smoke rising into the air.___Associated Press journalists Jim Vertuno in Austin, Texas, and Russ Bynum in Savannah, Georgia, contributed.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 44 Views 0 previzualizare

APNEWS.COMConditions of 4 climbers who fell on Mount McKinley unknown as rescuers try to reach themThis image made from video provided by KDFW FOX 4 shows a large fire at an apartment complex in Dallas, Thursday, May 28, 2026. (KDFW FOX 4 via AP)2026-05-28T22:38:45Z DENALI NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE, Alaska (AP) — Rescuers are trying to reach four climbers who fell on Alaska’s Mount McKinley, North America’s tallest peak, the National Park Service said Thursday. The climbers’ conditions weren’t immediately known following the fall, which was reported to Denali National Park and Preserve rangers overnight, and rangers were seeking a weather window to allow them to reach the area by helicopter, a statement from the agency said. The four climbers were part of a seven-person team. The three others climbing attended to those who fell, and then returned to camp, the statement says. The fall occurred near Denali Pass, at about 18,200 feet (5,547 meters). The climbers returned to camp at 17,000 feet (5,181 meters), the statement says. McKinley stands at about 20,310 feet (6,190 meters). The park service said weather conditions on the mountain were improving and would soon enable helicopter operations. The agency did not immediately respond to questions seeking comment. A typical climbing season for Mount McKinley begins in late April and continues into mid-July, according to the park. It was not immediately clear how many climbers currently are on the mountain. On Wednesday, two climbers as part of a separate incident were evacuated from the mountain by helicopter around 11 p.m., but the park service said it did not have additional information to share. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 44 Views 0 previzualizare

APNEWS.COMWhat to know about the heat policy at the French OpenJannik Sinner of Italy cools himself with the ice during the second round men's singles tennis match against Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina at the French Open tennis tournament in Paris, Thursday, May 28, 2026. (AP Photo/Thibault Camus)2026-05-28T19:35:33Z PARIS (AP) — Despite an unprecedented heat wave at the French Open, the tournament’s extreme weather policy has not been activated this week. And even if it had been, it’s unlikely that the retractable roof on Court Philippe-Chatrier would have been closed before or during top-ranked Jannik Sinner’s loss.According to the policy, if the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) — which takes into account temperature, humidity, sun, wind and other factors — reaches 30.1 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) or higher, 10-minute cooling breaks can be added between the second and third sets for women’s matches and between the third and fourth sets for men’s matches.“If the WBGT hits 32.2 C (90 F), play is suspended… this activates around 100 F,” the policy states. The conditions during Sinner’s defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Thursday didn’t hit those levels. The temperature at the start of the match was 29 degrees C (84 F) and rose to 32 C (90 F).The Roland Garros extreme weather policy makes no mention of closing the roofs. There is also a retractable roof on the tournament’s second-biggest stadium: Court Suzanne-Lenglen. That differs from the policy at the Australian Open, where if matches on the outdoor courts have been suspended, the referee may make the decision to close the roof — or to keep the roof closed — for any upcoming matches on the arena courts.Sinner has a history of struggling in the heat. He admitted he was lucky at the Australian Open in January against Eliot Spizzirri when the roof was closed midway through and the third-round match swung his way. Read More The French Open does not usually have so many consecutive days of extreme heat as experienced this year: It has reached 32 C (90 F) all five days of the tournament so far.The heat policy has never been activated for the French Open. Djokovic suggests holding more night matchesNovak Djokovic was asked after a grueling four-set victory on Wednesday, if the French Open should consider changing its policy.“It’s always a discussion,” he said. “But then if you close one roof, then all of the others are playing, it’s not fair, also. Why would you close center court and then everyone else has to be playing on the heat? I wouldn’t agree with that.”Djokovic suggested that the Paris organizers should consider moving more matches later in the day and night on days with extreme heat.“With Grand Slams it shouldn’t be an issue, because we have so many courts,” Djokovic said. “If you have certain days that you have extreme heat and conditions, then maybe that’s something to consider.”___AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis ANDREW DAMPF Dampf has been a Rome-based sports writer at The AP for over 20 years, covering soccer, tennis, Alpine skiing and many other events in Italy and beyond, including five soccer World Cups. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCincinnati Bearcats baseball previews Louisiana in NCAA openerThe day before the Cincinnati Bearcats baseball team took the field in Starkville, Mississippi for their eighth NCAA Tournament game, head coach Jordan Bischel, pitcher Nathan Taylor and outfielder Derrick Pitts met the media at Dudy Noble Field. All three have tournament experience as Taylor and Pitts both played in the Knoxville Regional last year, helping UC to win over the No. 2 seed Wake Forest, before falling to top-seed Tennessee and losing an elimination game to the Demon Deacons from the ACC.Bischel has skippered the Bearcats to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments for the first time ever, plus he has experience in Starkville from his time at Central Michigan. His 2019 Chippewas beat the Miami Hurricanes before falling to the Bulldogs. They lost the rematch with the Hurricanes but won 47 games that season.More: Storms in Starkville weather forecast for NCAA TournamentUC faces Louisiana at 7 p.m. Friday, May 29 on ESPN+.Cincinnati Bearcats coach Jordan Bischel on weekend pitching plans“Yeah, I’m hoping Nate can go nine, and we’ll go from there. I think we’ve been pretty goodat worrying about the next one. We know Nate will give us a great chance to win tomorrow. Iwould imagine as the weekend plays out, we’ll follow the same rotation we have for a whilenow with Logan Knight and Connor Blue. When you get to this point in the year, it’s allhands-on deck trying to win the one in front of you. That’s where we’re at. I think, without adoubt, Adam Buczkowski will play a big role in this regional for us. He’s been pretty lightsout the last month, but there’s a lot of bullpen arms that have helped us a lot. That’s a bigdifference from last year’s team.”UC Bearcats No. 1 pitcher Nathan Taylor on Starkville Regional“Yeah, it just means everything. I don’t think when I came here my freshman year, tworegionals in two years is pretty cool, knowing where we were before this. It’s just a surrealmoment getting to play past the Big 12 Tournament. Getting to play extra baseball isawesome.”Can UC Bearcats offense get Nathan Taylor enough runs?“Yeah, I mean it’s awesome. I mean, last year in the regional I think I gave up a prettygood amount of runs, and I mean, my offense had me the whole time. It’s happenedmultiple times this year, even on the defensive side. It’s an awesome thing for a pitcher, getting to be able to spike a slider almost every other pitch and having them block justabout everything.”UC Bearcats sophomore outfielder Derrick Pitts on 'Bischel Ball'“Oh man, it’s so much fun. Having guys that can run the ball out of the yard, it’s great tosee for us, not just the fans. But obviously, when you can have those explosive types ofplays on the offensive side, it’s good at any time. Just trusting the next guy andunderstanding the depth of our offense and how good we can be when we just trust eachother is the biggest thing. In our mind, there’s no group that can stop us when we’re allclicking and all playing team-ball together.”Cincinnati Bearcats gametime for Saturday in Starkville?Should the Bearcats win, they'll play the winner of Mississippi State/Lipscomb at 9 p.m. (Eastern) Saturday, May 30. Channel 11 Sports Director Jenna Harner was at practice on Thursday, talking with Head Coach Mike McCarthy about how he feels the group is coming together. McCarthy has been really impressed with his team’s work ethic as they’ve officially reached the midway point of OTAs.They’ve been diving into a lot of video from these two weeks of practice, and McCarthy feels they’re on pace with the installs on both sides of the ball. It’s been exactly four months and a day since McCarthy was hired by the Steelers. He shared how he put together a report for his staff for his first 100 days on the job, noting that he feels it’s more important for him to listen and observe than to talk.McCarthy also highlighted how there’s a certain progression and regression to this process as they all learn together.“We need to learn the offense, learn the defense, make sure we know the special teams, make sure we have a clear understanding of the fundamentals, make sure each player has a toolbox that’s full, make sure they have success, don’t give them too much. Keep building that in a progressive, regressive way,” he said. “It’s been a very hectic, busy offseason, but it should be. It’s year one. This is what year one looks like.”McCarthy also mentioned a couple of players by name, including wide receiver Roman Wilson, who’s looking to take a big step forward this season.Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts.Follow Channel 11 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch WPXI NOW0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow to live stream Spurs vs Thunder: NBA Western Conference Finals, Game 6, TV channelThe season is on the line for the San Antonio Spurs tonight as they return home trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder 3-2 in the Western Conference Finals, with a trip to the NBA Finals hanging in the balance.MORE:NBA Finals power rankings for remaining playoff teamsMay 24, 2026; San Antonio, Texas, USA; San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (1) drives the ball in the first quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder during game four of the Western Conference Finals for the 2026 NBA playoffs at Frost Bank Center. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Dunn-Imagn ImagesHow to Watch Spurs vs ThunderWhen: Thursday, May 28, 2026Time: 8:30 PM ETTV Channel: NBC / PeacockLive Stream: Peacock (watch now)Oklahoma City regained control of the series with a 127-114 win in Game 5 behind another dominant performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 32 points while continuing to dictate the pace offensively. The Thunder’s depth has become one of the defining storylines of the series, especially with reserves like Alex Caruso and Jared McCain providing major scoring bursts off the bench. OKC has massively outscored San Antonio’s second unit throughout the matchup, giving the defending champions a huge advantage late in games.– Live Stream Spurs vs Thunder with Peacock –For San Antonio, everything starts with Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs star struggled in Game 5, finishing with 20 points on 4-for-15 shooting, and head coach Mitch Johnson emphasized afterward that the team needs a far more aggressive version of Wembanyama in Game 6. When the Spurs won Game 4 in dominant fashion, Wembanyama controlled the paint defensively while the Spurs dictated tempo and physicality from the opening quarter.Another major factor will be the young Spurs backcourt. Rookie Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle have shown flashes throughout the series, but Oklahoma City’s pressure defense has forced turnovers at critical moments. Meanwhile, San Antonio hopes home-court energy at Frost Bank Center can recreate the atmosphere that fueled their 103-82 Game 4 win.Historically, Game 5 winners in a tied conference finals series go on to win the series more than 76% of the time, so the Thunder enter tonight with both momentum and history on their side. Still, this Spurs team has consistently responded under pressure throughout the postseason, setting up what could be the defining game of this young core’s rise. This is a great NBA matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.Live Stream Spurs vs Thunder with Peacock: Start your subscription now! With Peacock, you can catch the NBA Playoffs without cable on your phone, TV, or tablet. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDo the oddsmakers know something about John Stones and Bayern Munich?MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - MAY 25: John Stones of Manchester City brings out the 2018/2019 Premier League trophy during the After Party Celebration to mark the achievements of Manchester City men’s, women’s and academy teams during the 25/26 season at The Co-op Live Arena on May 25, 2026 in Manchester, England. (Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images) | Getty Images Last weekend, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl shot down any thought that the club had interest in head coach Vincent Kompany’s former teammate, Manchester City defender John Stones.Or…did he?Per Betano, Bayern Munich is still the leader in the clubhouse to land Stones: Bayern Munich are heavy favourites to sign John Stones this summer following his release from Manchester City, according to Betano.Stones has departed the Etihad after a trophy-laden spell at the club, landing six Premier League titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the Club World Cup and the Uefa Super Cup.All roads appear to lead to the Allianz Arena for Stones, with Betano making him a 5/4 heavy favourite to join the German champions this summer and reunite with former central defensive partner Vincent Kompany, now in charge of Bayern Munich.A return to former club Everton is a 3/1 chance, while a switch to AC Milan is 8/1, followed by either Juventus or Inter Milan at 10/1.A listing of the odds is below as well: Bayern Munich 5/4Everton 3/1AC Milan 8/1Juventus, Inter Milan 10/1Barcelona, Aston Villa 12/1Como 14/1BFW CommentaryIt still feels like it would be a longshot for Bayern Munich to get Stones, but the oddsmakers do not feel the same way, eh?As a free agent — and with Bayern Munich in a great two-year window to chase a treble — a move for Stones is not crazy. Sure, the Bavarians would likely prefer to find a center-back of the future, but Stones could eventually become an option if both the player and the club do no have solutions in place later this summer. It might seem easy to dismiss the odds, but they were correct on Anthony Gordon’s move to FC Barcelona. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTexans QB C.J. Stroud believes he's deserving of new deal, but focused on 2026 seasonEventually, Houston Texans Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud will be paid. The only questions now are when, how much and with whom. Stroud, who is entering his fourth season with the Texans and is two years removed from winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, said following the second day of voluntary OTAs that he feels as if he's done his part to earn an extension, but that his focus is set on the season and not the new contract. "I let my agent handle that. If it's time to do it, then it is," Stroud said on Thursday. "My job is football. That's what I'm focused on, just getting better. I think I've held my bargain up. Whatever happens, happens."#Texans QB C.J. Stroud doesn't seem too worried about hammering out a new extension:🗣️"I let my agent handle it. If it's time to do it, then it is.""My job is football. So, that's what I'm focused on, just getting better. And I think I've held my bargain up on that end." pic.twitter.com/eq3kUNGEfy— Houston Texans On SI (@TexansOnSI) May 28, 2026The Texans already extended fellow 2023 draft pick and All-Pro defensive end Will Anderson Jr. earlier this offseason, making him the highest-paid non-QB in the league on a three-year deal worth $150 million. Stroud, who did have his fifth-year option picked up after an underwhelming postseason, still has two more years left on his rookie contract before hitting free agency. #Texans passing connection: C.J. Stroud to Jaylin Noel @KPRC2pic.twitter.com/HzmTmbwz7r— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) May 28, 2026Since being drafted No. 2 overall, Stroud has impressed as the face of the offense. He helped Houston win 28 regular-season wins while throwing for 10,876 passing yards, 62 touchdown passes and 25 interceptions. Stroud has led the Texans to three playoff appearances and three playoff victories, though none have come past the wild-card round. This offseason was built around Stroud improving his body and mind. He added muscle, cut his hair and spent ample time working on the little details of his craft to better the chances of being viewed as the long-term quarterbacks. Temmates have taken notice of the improvements and physique as he's entering a critical year for his career. "These last two days, I think they've done a good job with the process in terms of handling, coming out of the huddle, making sure that everybody's where they need to be, handling motions the right way, and then seeing stuff post-snap and making the right passes," defensive back Jalen Pitre said. Stroud will continue to look for a chance to make the lasting impression of his career be based on his future role rather than his past mistakes, especially his postseason run that resulted in a four interception afternoon against the New England Patriots. "I really learned in my life that you got to learn to let failures go, let successes go just as quick as you would do a win," Stroud said. "You got to learn from it and move on, so that's what I did.”This article originally appeared on Texans Wire: Texans QB C.J. The five-time All-Star and 2023 NL MVP connected off reliever Greg Weissert for his third home run this season and first since April 24. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSouth Central's calculated pitching risk pays off in win over LucasGALION — South Central baseball coach Nick Kirk is a gambling man.Well, more like a calculated risk kind of guy.Instead of giving the ball to staff ace Weston June, Kirk gave the starting pitching nod to Troy Ayers in the Trojans’ Division VII district semifinal game against Lucas on Thursday, May 28. The idea was to save June for a potential district championship game, but Kirk also saw the success Ayers had against the Cubs earlier in the season and in district semifinal games in the past, so it wasn’t exactly a gamble kind of move.POSTSEASON TRACKER: 2026 spring sports postseason tracker | First state track and field tickets punchedNonetheless, it worked out perfectly as the Trojans knocked off the Cubs 11-0 in a five-inning run-rule victory at Galion’s Heise Park to advance to their third straight district championship game.“Last year, we were in the same situation,” Kirk said. “We played Buckeye Central and then had Mohawk in the district championship and we did the same thing. I have full confidence in anyone we put out on the mound and Troy had that experience of pitching in a big semifinal game. He went out with the same mentality today and gave us a win.”Ayers was untouchable allowing just one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk in his five dominant innings. He faced just 17 batters and threw 67 pitches.“I just go out there with confidence that if I do my part, it will help our team win,” Ayers said. “If hits don’t come, my job is to make sure the other team doesn’t hit. Thankfully, my guys hit for me today.”That is an understatement. The Trojans used a nine-run second inning to break things open and two more in the third to reach the run-rule deficit. Those two innings allowed Ayers to relax on the mound and reach back on what made him so successful against Lucas in their April 10 game, a 6-3 Lucas win, where he only allowed one earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work.“It went way up,” Ayers said. “When we put up that nine-spot, I was able to pitch freely and do my own thing. Pitching against Lucas earlier in the year and the last couple of years, I knew exactly how to attack them and it worked.”June had two hits and three RBIs while Alex Hamons had a hit and two RBIs, Cole Frankart had two RBIs, Michael Sanders had a hit and an RBI, Bryan Chaffee had an RBI and Kaden Blair and Gavin Olney had one hit apiece.“Confidence is an amazing thing,” Kirk said. “We have 10 seniors and each one of them are leaders and have decided to play up to their standard. We are battle tested and are going to give their all all the way through. We set the tone right away and put pressure on them.”Lucas (9-10) committed two errors on defense and issued four walks and hit three batters for nine free passes on the day. It was a recipe for failure.“Our whole bread and butter this year has been our pitching and defense and today, those two things didn’t show up,” Lucas coach Dean George said. “We were very excited to win our game against Buckeye Central that I think we had a little bit of a hangover from that. We put a lot of effort into winning that game.“We needed it to be a low-scoring game, because South Central has a lot of fire power, more than what we could compete with.”Xavier Hall had the lone hit for the Cubs. Lucas still finished as Mid-Buckeye Conference champions in the final year in the league and George had to be proud of his team’s accomplishments this season.“It was a year where I believe we exceeded our own expectations,” George said. “We lost eight seniors from last year and weren’t sure what we could put together this year. We have to look back on our season and be proud of the young team. I am excited to see these guys grow. I can’t wait to see what Zell Finley can do behind the plate and what Brady Anschutz can continue to do because he is going to be a problem by his senior year.”South Central (11-13) moves on to play Tiffin Calvert at 2 p.m. on May 30 back at Galion for a district championship.“It’s going to be a ballgame,” Kirk said. “It doesn’t matter who we play or where, we are going to show up and play our brand of baseball. If we play like we did today, I will take us every day of the week.”jfurr@usatodayco.com740-244-9934X: @JakeFurr11This article originally appeared on Mansfield News Journal: South Central Trojans beat Lucas Cubs in district semifinal baseball0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDodgers Legends’ Records Threatened by Phillies AcePhiladelphia Phillies pitcher Christopher Sánchez is having an incredible season, and if it continues this way, some Los Angeles Dodgers legends could be eclipsed in the history books.Sánchez current streak of 44.2 scoreless innings in the same season is good for seventh best in the Live Ball Era (since 1920), as reported by Paul Casella of MLB.com.Mar 18, 2025; Bradenton, Florida, USA; Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Christopher Sanchez (61) throws a pitch in the first inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates during spring training at LECOM Park. Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Dyer-Imagn ImagesIn his last outing, he overtook Dodgers great Clayton Kershaw, who threw 41 straight scoreless innings from June 13 to July 10, 2014 — the season in which he won National League MVP and the NL Cy Young Award. Now, Sánchez has three more former Dodgers in his sights.Who remains in front of Christopher Sánchez? If Sánchez goes one more inning, he’ll pass a pair of San Francisco Giants — Sal Maglie and Carl Hubbell — and tie Dodger Zack Greinke, who threw 45.2 scoreless innings from June 18 to July 26, 2015, the year after Kershaw’s streak. After that, he next stands to overtake the St. Louis Cardinal Bob Gibson’s 47 innings in 1968, explains Andrew Simon of MLB.com.View this post on InstagramA post shared by MLB Network (@mlbnetwork)Then, only two legendary Dodgers stand in Sánchez’s way, though it’s a marked jump up.Another scoreless outing most likely puts Sánchez into third place all-time, but in second place is Don Drysdale’s 58 straight scoreless innings from May 14 to June 8, 1968.Given the difference — 11 innings — it would require at least one more start from Sánchez, and given the pitch counts of current hurlers, probably two more. It’s also worth noting that while Drysdale’s 58 innings are second place in the Live Ball Era, it’s also second best in the Dead Ball Era, which makes the Dodger in the top spot even more impressive.Orel Hershiser went 59 straight innings without allowing a run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 28, 1988.So if Sánchez can catch Drysdale, Hershiser isn’t much further off — though that’s only if you count the regular season, which is the case for the record books.Hershiser pitched eight more scoreless innings in the NLCS on Oct. 4, bringing his actual total to 67.Do you think Christopher Sánchez will pass those Dodger greats?0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAnalyst offers brutally honest Chiefs 2026 reality for Rashee RiceAnalyst offers brutally honest Chiefs 2026 reality for Rashee Rice originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice has had an indifferent offseason so far, and with his off-the-field incidents reportedly landing him in trouble, that isn't great.Given the Chiefs' need to have Rice as a key part of their offense, to have him missing time is less than ideal, but not only that, Rashee is in the final year of his contract, and this sort of thing won't exactly put him into the Chiefs' good graces.Which is why the 2026 season looms as a pivotal one for Rice's career long-term, not just this season. In a list compiled of the players who have the most money at stake in 2026, NFL.com's Eric Edholm has Rice on that list."Rice has put himself in a bad situation by continually making poor decisions," Edholm wrote. "He's entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the Chiefs don't yet know if they can trust him. The character questions surrounding Rice wouldn't vanish with a strong campaign, but that -- along with some accountability -- surely would help his chances of earning a long-term deal befitting of his immense talent.“The way wide receiver contracts have blown up, that could mean a salary averaging north of $30 million. Or it could be a story of missed opportunity for Rice if he runs afoul again this season. The future is in his hands."MORE:Can Falcons' Tua Tagovailoa survive 'career crossroads' in 2026?Can Rice rediscover form?Since his rookie season, Rice has battled off-field issues and poor play on the field as he now enters Year 4 with a lot to prove. He posted 938 yards in his rookie season, but hasn't surpassed 571 in the two seasons since, and for a player who some think can be a No. 1 weapon, that isn't good enough.Injuries played a role, no doubt, but the off-field issues are now starting to become a glaring problem for Rice and the Chiefs. Will the franchise want to give $30+ million to a receiver who, right now, doesn't look like he's the most dependable player? Likely not.Which is why the 2026 season is crucial for Rice to show the Chiefs he's worthy of a big payday.More NFL news:Analyst has high hopes for Kyler Murray with VikingsRavens' Jesse Minter a huge Trey Hendrickson fan as DE stars at OTAsChiefs' Andy Reid reacts to Patrick Mahomes at OTAs with 5-word messageCommanders' Jayden Daniels in 'love' with David Blough's offense at OTAsChiefs' Patrick Mahomes issues bold statement on playstyle post-ACL injury0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHS BASKETBALL: Riverside’s Antoniacci invited to NBPA Top 100 CampAfter an outstanding sophomore season that included being the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class 3A boys basketball player of the year, Riverside’s Nico Antoniacci is about to attend an exclusive showcase.A two-time Times-Tribune Player of the Year, Antoniacci, who also plays for NEPA Elite, was invited to participate in the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 Camp on June 8-11 at the Rock Hill Sports and Events Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina.Antoniacci is one of 40 players who are members of the Class of 2028. Last season, he led Riverside to a 25-2 record and the Lackawanna Division II and District 2 Class 3A championships. He averaged 30.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game this season and has 1,383 career points.“This means a lot, because they only pick 100 of the best high school players; the people who vote on this think that I am among that group, which makes this a big honor,” Antoniacci, 17, said. “I have been putting in a lot of work, attacking the weight room to become a stronger, more athletic player. I am working hard on becoming a more consistent jump shooter and a better leader for my high school team.“I am looking forward to this because it is going to be a good challenge. I am going to be competing and see how I can score against the best players in the country, the level of players I will see in college. I am very excited.”The NBPA Top 100 Camp includes team and instruction sessions coached by current and former NBA players. Top NCAA coaches and NBA scouts will be in attendance during the camp. Coaches leading this year’s camp include Rajon Rondo, Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy, and Tom Creen.“This is an incredible opportunity for him to be coached and mentored by high-level players and coaches and, more importantly, gives him a chance to get some exposure on a big-time level,” Riverside coach Josh Aniska said. “He is finding every opportunity he can to better himself as a player and a person.”Alumni of the camp include Bam Adebayo, Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Dwight Howard, Kemba Walker, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Karl Anthony-Towns, Trae Young, Zion Williamson, and Anthony Edwards.“We are extremely proud of Nico and his accomplishments thus far in his high school career, but being invited as one of the top 100 players to a camp of this pedigree, both throughout the US and internationally, has to be at the top right now,” NEPA Elite’s Kevin Clark. “This isn’t some secondary camp; this camp is the cream of the crop. With the selection process as difficult as it is, Nico continues to grow in the game at the national level, and many people are starting to take notice.“We have no doubt he will only get better, and with this NBPA Top 100 camp, Nico will be in the gym with the best of the best from a player perspective and will be able to showcase his skills in front of the top colleges in the country as well as NBA scouts on hand.”0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 43 Views 0 previzualizare
