Gonzaga women sign Denver transfer Jocelyn Medina
May 28—The Gonzaga women's basketball team added its second transfer of the offseason in guard Jocelyn Medina on Thursday.Medina was a junior college standout at College of the Sequoias before spending last year at the University of Denver. She joins the Zags with one year of eligibility as their 13th scholarship player.Medina, 5-6, was a potent scorer in her first two seasons, being named Central Valley Conference Co-MVP and averaging 22.8 points per game, while shooting 44.3% on 3-pointers. She was not nearly as successful at Denver last season, connecting on 12 of 59 3s (20.3%) and averaging 6.4 points.Still, the Zags will welcome depth to their guard position, led by returning junior Allie Turner."Jocelyn is a confident and competitive player who plays with a chip on her shoulder," Gonzaga coach Lisa Fortier said via release. "She can create for herself and her teammates and is eager to continue to build her game."Earlier this month, GU added another transfer guard in Emmy Roach from Rider University.Gonzaga lost one starter — senior guard Ines Bettencourt — off a team that finished 24-10, captured the West Coast Conference Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Vikings could be in on the 2027 NFL Draft QB class
Heading into the offseason, the quarterback situation for the Minnesota Vikings was going to be very fluid. Last season, the quarterback play was less than ideal, putting it mildly. The franchise made an effort to raise the level of play, signing free agent Kyler Murray to a one-year deal. It is widely expected that Murray will be the week one starter, but regardless of how he plays this year, could Minnesota be looking to add another in the draft next year?ESPN's Jordan Reid laid it all out, writing, "If Murray and McCarthy don't drastically improve from what they put on tape last season, Minnesota could be looking for its next franchise signal-caller as soon as the 2027 draft."There is a real chance that Murray elevates this offense in 2026. However, should we not see a major improvement this season, it sounds like Minnesota could address the situation in the 2027 NFL Draft. You could argue that there might be six quarterbacks taken in round one next year, should everyone declare, and one might be a Viking next season. Bari Weiss slammed during major awards show as she tears “60 Minutes” apart
Bari Weiss, the transphobic lesbian editor-in-chief of CBS News, was notably absent last night at the News & Documentary Emmy Awards in Manhattan, where a scholarship recipient told the audience that Weiss’ leadership at the news network “stains the legacy” of one of its most famous journalists. The day after, Weiss tore apart the veteran reporters behind the network’s leading news magazine 60 Minutes. During the event, Santiago Campos received the Mike Wallace scholarship, an annual $10,000 award given to an accomplished TV journalism student which honors the legendary CBS 60 Minutes journalist. In his acceptance speech, Campos condemned recent editorial changes made at CBS News under Weiss’ leadership, though he didn’t mention her by name. Related Bari Weiss “furious” at Anderson Cooper for his parting shots at her CBS News leadership “While I want to thank CBS news for funding this generous gift towards my education, I want to acknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the namesake of this scholarship,” Campos said, as audience members began cheering and applauding. “As corporate elites take hold over the very pipes through which our information flows, journalism that serves people becomes increasingly harder to come by, yet ever more crucial. And what the people want is the truth,” he continued. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “So at any time, if you hesitate to utter the word ‘genocide’ or remain silent in the face of blatant lies, remember to ask yourself, ‘Who is this for?’ I hope you choose us,” he concluded. After Campos’ speech, award-presenter and longtime CBS News reporter Mike Pelley reportedly remarked, “I know that Mike Wallace is looking down at you with pride at this very moment.” Campos: While I want to thank CBS news for funding this generous gift towards my education, I want to acknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the namesake of this scholarship.— Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-05-28T00:33:46.766Z Weiss wasn’t around to hear Campos’ criticisms, which was notable seeing as 60 Minutes, the network’s oldest and most-watched TV news magazine, had been nominated for 10 awards (and won three). Network leaders often attend the ceremony in support for their journalists’ work. The day after Campos’ speech, Weiss removed many of 60 Minutes‘ longtime journalists in what The New York Post called a “bloodbath.” She removed executive producer Tanya Simon, senior executive producer Draggan Mihailovich, correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, and replaced Tanya Simon, a 25-year veteran of the show, with Nick Bilton, a tech journalist who (like Weiss) has never worked in TV news. Weiss and Alfonsi clashed last December when Weiss pulled a 13-minute segment on deportations to El Salvador’s Center for the Confinement of Terrorism, an El Salvador prison infamous for its torture and human rights abuses. Just hours before it was set to air, Weiss said the piece was “not ready” and lacked an on-record response from the Trump administration. Alfonsi argued that the story was heavily vetted and that the administration’s silence effectively allowed the president to kill the story. The piece eventually aired in January Alfonsi called her dismissal “a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting,” adding, “It sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom.” Under Weiss’ leadership, the viewership of both CBS Evening News and CBS Mornings have fallen behind rival shows at the ABC and NBC News networks. Students for Trump co-founder arrested for allegedly threatening to kill a woman
Washington D.C. police arrested Ryan Fournier, co-founder of Students for Trump and Turning Point Action (the PAC for the young conservatives group Turning Point USA), early Tuesday morning for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill a woman he was dating. The woman told police that, while visiting Fournier, she found him passed out on the floor. When she woke him, he “started swinging his fists at her and struck her in the face with a closed fist two or three times,” according to a police affidavit obtained by Defector. A witness who identified himself as Fournier’s roommate said he overheard him saying, “Don’t touch me, woman!… Do you want me to crush your head in with this lamp?… Do you want to die today?” The witness said the woman appeared to have been punched in the face and said, “Don’t let him stab me.” The witness and the woman hid in the bathroom until the police arrived. Bangladesh gov’t saves Albino buffalo from sacrifice because it looks like Donald Trump
The Bangladeshi government stopped the ritual sacrifice of an albino buffalo that bears a striking resemblance to Donald Trump due to the swoosh of blondeish/orange hair that almost looks like a toupée on top of its head. Despite having been sold for an Eid al-Adha sacrifice, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buyer be refunded and the buffalo be transferred to a zoo “due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest,” Reuters reported. Related Tech reviewer eviscerates new Trump phone: It’s the color of “a urine sample” The buffalo went viral and has reportedly already drawn big crowds at the farm that purchased it. Ziauddin Mridha, the farmer who bought the buffalo, said his brother first noticed the resemblance and named him after the U.S. president.

Small town cancels Pride after vandals destroyed their banners twice
The English county of Hertfordshire canceled its June 20 Pride event after vandals tore down its promotional banners twice over. The Loud & Proud event was scheduled to occur at Shirley’s Roadhouse, a live music venue in the village of London Colney, with performances paying tribute to Christina Aguilera, Elton John, and Britney Spears, Attitude magazine reported. Organizers had already sold at least 100 tickets. Related Hong Kong unexpectedly canceled one of its biggest LGBTQ+ events. China may be to blame. However, promotional banners displayed around the county were torn down. When organizers replaced the banners five weeks later, those were torn down as well. “I thought we were living in 2026 and had moved on from this kind of discrimination and was really hoping we could have a nice family-run event that would celebrate the LGBTQ+ community,” Liz Needham, a Liberal Democrat village councilor, told BBC News, adding that the vandalism upset local LGBTQ+ people and allies, especially since banners promoting other non-Pride events had been left untouched. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today But the vandalism and hostile comments online compelled organizers to cancel the event out of safety concerns. “My first responsibility is to ensure the safety of the venue, performers, and attendees,” organizers wrote in a cancellation notice, saying that they couldn’t afford the “ridiculous costs” to pay for event security. “We’re sorry for those people that can’t come,” Needham said, but said that the number of supportive messages that the event has gotten online since its cancellation “shows the majority of people are actually supportive of something like that, and it’s just a very small minority that want to ruin it.” In March, organizers in the nearby town of Luton (just 12 miles northwest of Hertfordshire) canceled their June 13 Pride event, which was set to occur in the county of Bedfordshire. Pride in Luton, the organizing group, announced that its trustees lacked the “organizational capacity” to sustain the event. “We believe responsible leadership means recognizing when an organization cannot continue at the level it should, and choosing to close with integrity rather than compromise quality or accountability,” the group’s statement said. Tigers Wait for Save Answer After Kenley Jansen IL Move
Kenley Jansen went on the 15-day injured list Thursday with pelvic inflammation, and Detroit recalled Drew Sommers from Triple-A Toledo to take his roster spot, making the move official and updating the transaction log. The Detroit Tigers now head into the weekend without the reliever who had been handling their save chances.Jansen left Tuesday night’s ninth inning against the Angels before the IL move. A.J. Hinch said Jansen would see a specialist and could not pitch that weekend, so the Detroit Tigers filled the bullpen spot right away instead of carrying an unavailable closer, as shown in the team update. The ninth inning just got less settledAt the time of the move, Jansen had a 4.80 ERA and seven saves in 11 chances, per his season line at the time he hit the IL. He also had 483 career saves, which ranked third on the all-time list. The Detroit Tigers have not publicly identified who gets the next save chance. What is clear is that the bullpen loses its usual ninth-inning reliever while the club waits for more information on Jansen’s condition.Sommers gives Detroit a fresh left-handed armSommers was the immediate recall, and the move came three days after Detroit optioned him to Toledo on May 25, according to the late-May transaction record. That puts him back in the active bullpen as the Detroit Tigers cover Jansen’s absence. The left-hander is 25 years old, and his player page shows he recorded one strikeout in one-third of an inning on May 28. The same page also lists four major league appearances for Detroit in 2025.Detroit is still waiting on the bigger answerThe recall solves the roster spot. It does not settle how the Detroit Tigers will handle the final inning until Jansen is evaluated further.Hinch said Jansen will see a specialist, per Thursday’s injury update. Until that happens, the Tigers are moving forward with a changed bullpen and no confirmed public answer yet for the next save opportunity.

How Brooke Wells busted her lip and busted open Alabama softball win over UCLA
OKLAHOMA CITY — Brooke Wells wasn't going to let anything keep her from her first Women's College World Series appearance. Not the shadow of a hitless super regional streak. Not a strikeout. Not even a busted lip.On a foul out to Marlie Giles in the third inning, Giles mistakenly ran her shoulder into Wells' mouth. Former 49ers WR's insane comparison for himself after joining new team
It's not a secret that former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings has a high opinion of where he stands among the elite players at his position in the NFL. Now he's given a direct cross-sport comparison to an NBA legend that moved to the Bay Area instead of away from it. Jennings, who landed a one-year contract worth $8 million with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, wound up missing out on his desired payday in free agency. He missed part of training camp last year while negotiating a new contract that ultimately landed him some additional incentives. This offseason, his first foray into free agency, ended with Jennings not signing until after the NFL draft and landing a contract lower than the one he had in San Francisco last season. The lack of a major raise didn't do anything to quell Jennings' confidence. In an interview with Vikings media members during OTAs, Jennings compared himself to a future NBA Hall of Famer joining an already stacked Vikings receiving corps with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. #Vikings WR Jauan Jennings says he feels like Kevin Durant on the warriors with the current receiving core:“Big three man. A lot of talent over here.”(Via Vikings mobile app) pic.twitter.com/hOA20STXQK— VikingzFanPage (@vikingzfanpage) May 28, 2026"It's awesome. I feel like Kevin Durant and the Warriors," Jennings said in reference to Durant joining the Warriors in free agency after Golden State won 73 games the previous season. "It's a big three, man," Jennings explained. "There's just a lot of talent over here. It's just top down, head to bottom a lot of talent."There's no denying the Vikings receiving corps is very talented. It's just hard to fit Jennings into the Durant box given that Durant was arguably the best player in the world when he joined the Warriors, and then solidified himself as that while winning a pair of Finals MVPs in 2017 and 2018. It's tough to envision Jennings, who is a good player, living up to the kind of expectation that comes with the invocation of Kevin Durant on the Warriors. If Jennings does pull that off and meet those lofty standards, next offseason he'll surely get the payday he was seeking the last two. How Los Angeles Dodgers would be impacted by MLB's proposed salary cap
MLB proposed a hard salary cap to the MLB Players' Association in New York on Thursday, May 28. It was the first by the league owners since 1994. The proposed $245.3 million salary cap, which would include benefits, is lower than nine current MLB clubs’ payroll and would require a total reduction in payroll of $578 million.Among those nine teams is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have a payroll of $420,146,940 for the 2026 season, according to Spotrac. That's the highest in the league, and they're followed by the New York Mets ($381.85 million) and New York Yankees ($336.56 million).More: MLB fans should brace for lockout as owners throw down the gauntlet in labor warLos Angeles will pay just over $169.1 million in luxury tax (competitive balance tax) for the 2026 season. The team paid a record-breaking $169.4 million in taxes for 2025 after constructing the most expensive roster in sports history.MLB insists the newly proposed salary cap would increase competitive balance in the sport. How would a hard cap impact the Dodgers? The Dodgers have used the current salary structure to their advantage, acquiring star players such as Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Tucker in recent years and producing back-to-back World Series championships.Current contracts would be grandfathered in, but any future contracts would be structured around the new salary cap.If the hard cap is implemented, the defending champions would have to (currently) cut $174.84 million to meet the $245.3 million salary cap. While there are several things that would need to happen before the Dodgers actually have to make any decisions, it may, at the very least, place a sense of urgency on the franchise to make the most of the current success window.Ohtani has a heavily deferred 10-year, $700 million deal that he signed in 2023. Outfielder Kyle Tucker signed a four-year deal in January worth $240 million.Shortstop Mookie Betts (2032), pitcher Blake Snell (2030) and pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (2029) are among the other players at the top of the payroll with long-term deals. First baseman Freddie Freeman's six-year, $162 million contract expires in 2027.This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: How Dodgers would be impacted by MLB's proposed salary cap

BERLIN, GERMANY - MAY 23: Luis Diaz of FC Bayern Munich kisses the DFB Cup Final Trophy following victory during the DFB Cup Final 2026 match between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart at Olympiastadion on May 23, 2026 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by Christian Kaspar-Bartke/Getty Images) | Getty Images Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz has just had a remarkable first season with the Bavarians, being a major focal point in Bayern’s attack during the season and lifting three trophies in his first year in Munich. The Colombian recently spoke to ESPN Colombia (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) and reflected on a first season that seem to have exceeded even his own expectations. “I would describe it as spectacular, because for me it was a dream. Winning so many titles, winning three in the first season, is fantastic. You imagine many things when you arrive at a new club, you work for it, but when it happens, it truly fills you with pride, it fills you with joy, it gives you even more motivation to keep doing what you love, which is playing football, and to achieve many more,” Díaz said. The Colombian also made it clear that he’s not done winning trophies yet, and that he will work hard to continue enjoying his career in Munich. “So, I’m incredibly happy. Now I’ll work even harder for what’s to come, which is also going to be very important,” he predicted. If you are looking for more Bayern Munich and German national team coverage, check out the latest episodes of Bavarian Podcast Works, which you can get on Acast, Spotify, Apple, or any leading podcast distributor… Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

Major League Baseball begins their contract drama
Major League Baseball (MLB) and the MLB Players’ Association (MLBPA) have begun the process of negotiating a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that will take effect with the next baseball season. The current CBA runs out on Dec. 1 of this year. The two sides began their preliminary groundwork for negotiations earlier this month. The MLBPA submitted its first proposal on Wednesday, with its lead negotiator, Bruce Meyer, releasing a statement outlining the goal for their efforts.“Today, the MLBPA presented a comprehensive set of economic proposals designed to advance the rights and benefits of players at all levels,” MLBPA interim executive director Bruce Meyer said in a statement. “Our goal is to preserve and improve baseball’s market system, rewarding competition on and off the field.”MLBPA proposalFollowing is a synopsis of the major proposals for the MLBPA’s initial effort:A boost in the minimum salary from $780,000 to $1.5 million beginning in 2027.A Competitive Integrity Tax that penalizes a team that fails to reach a minimum $150 million payroll.Luxury Tax changes that would increase the Competitive Balance Tax threshold from $244 million to $300 million for 2027 and then incrementally increase to $360 million by 2031.Free Agency changes that would give a player who is 30-years-old and has a minimum of 5 years of service, the ability to become a free agent instead of the current required 6 years of service time.Revenue-sharing changes that would increase the amount shared from locally based revenues among all teams, but less sharing from local revenue generated from stadium-based revenues. Teams share the first $50 million in local revenue and then two-thirds of every dollar beyond that. Each team would get a certain amount from the central revenue each season, starting at $240 million the first year, and paired with a provision that requires spending the revenue on payroll.Increased revenue sharing to low-revenue teams that make the postseason or have winning records.Penalties to teams that don’t spend their revenue-sharing income on team payroll. Draft picks and incentives for low-revenue teams that are active in signing free agents.Expand the draft lottery from 6 teams to 8 teams for first pick in the draft.Expand the Prospect Promotion Incentive program.Eliminate the Qualifying Offer for free agents and eliminate the non-financial CBT penalties.Increase the compensation to lower-revenue teams losing a player to free agency.Enlarge the pre-arbitration bonus pool from $50 million to $180 million. There would be annual increases added to that amount.MLB made an official response to the MLBPA proposal.“We appreciate the union making a set of proposals and we look forward to continuing the bargaining process and working towards solving the competitive balance problem our fans are telling us needs to be addressed,” MLB spokesman Glen Caplin said in a statement. “We understand their proposals are designed to benefit players. Unfortunately, they do not address and in fact exacerbate the competitive balance problem our fans are telling us we must address.”MLB counterproposalToday, MLB released the highlights of its proposal and Glen Caplin, MLB spokesperson, made the following statement.“Fans overwhelmingly support a salary cap and floor like in the other leagues because they don’t believe a $446 million spending gap from top to bottom is a fair fight,” league spokesperson Glen Caplin said in a statement. “Our salary cap and floor proposal levels the playing field while sharing baseball revenue with the players 50/50 as we grow the game together.”Here are the major proposal highlights for the MLB:Payroll floor of $171.2 million and a payroll cap of $245.3 million for every team, starting in 2027. That includes player benefits, just like the current contract.50-50 split of league revenues with the players. As the revenues increase, the salary cap and salary floor would also increase.Centralized fund for all local media revenues, with the money distributed equally among all the teams. The issues of free agency, draft lottery, and arbitration were not addressed in their initial proposal. The league is proposing a seven-year term for the contract. What’s at stakeThis process promises to be a drawn-out battle with both sides determined to hold the course with their bottom lines. The players have repeatedly stated they will never agree to a salary cap, and the owners have repeatedly said the organizational revenue and payroll disparities are not good for baseball, and they are representing the demands of the fans with their proposals. Some points that both sides will undoubtedly bring out during the course of this negotiationA top 10 payroll team has won six of the last seven World Series.A bottom 15 payroll team hasn’t won a World Series since the Kansas City Royals in 2015.The payroll disparity from the top five teams to the bottom five is almost five times (4.7 exactly), the most on record. The Dodgers’ payroll, including luxury tax, is $407 million in 2026. The Miami Marlins payroll is $74 million in 2026.MLB formed a Fan Council in 2025, requesting the input of fans regarding issues important to them. Competitive balance was reported as the most important topic discussed. Baseball is at its most popular and financially lucrative status in history. Both sides should be motivated to reach an agreement to maintain this momentum. The fans were alienated significantly with the labor dispute of 1994, when the World Series and a lot of the season were cancelled. It is everyone’s best interest not to have that happen again. How this affects the PadresUnder the current proposal, the Padres would be one of the teams required to reduce payroll. It is not likely that this proposal will resemble the final proposal. These are the ideal terms the two sides would want to have for their contract. If the two sides can’t come to an agreement it is likely a owner “lock out” will ensue and the season could be compromised significantly.

Husbands Richard & Chris recreate a romantic moment each year at Pride
LGBTQ Nation will be sharing your pictures of Pride throughout May and June. Submit your own if you want to be included! Richard Munoz-Moore was surprised a couple of times one night ten years ago. His husband, Chris, once. The couple was on their way to a romantic dinner when a freak thunderstorm broke out where they live in Sacramento. Back home, “it was still raining, so we hurry into the house,” Richard shared with LGBTQ Nation. “As I’m going to grab towels for us, I hear him say ‘f**k it.'” Richard turned around to find Chris on one knee, “rain on his face and a ring in his hand.”“I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” he quotes Chris. Richard said yes “immediately.” Chris is a “planner,” his husband said. “He planned every detail: the perfect restaurant, a romantic walk after dinner, then pop the question under the stars. He thought of every detail — but the weather.” But the story couldn’t have turned out better. “I know how romcom it sounds, and believe me, I’ve never been that guy. Years ago, if I were reading this, I’d probably break out in hives from the sap of it all. Sweet and sappy have never been my life, but with Chris, it has been.” The romance has rubbed off. For their wedding in a park, Richard draped everything in warm white lights. “Everyone wore masquerade masks, and we drank, danced, and celebrated under the stars.” He called the evening “magical.” For several years now at Pride in the California capital, the couple has recreated one of the most romantic images ever shot on film as an affirmation of their love: the iconic photo from Times Square on V-J Day, with Chris playing the sailor and Richard the woman in white. Alfred Eisenstadt captured the moment for Life magazine in August, 1945. Asked what kind of “victory” their photo represents, Richard replies, “Every day we wake up, smile and live our truth. We’ve found our own fairytale ending.” “The legitimacy of marriage is so important to us,” he says. “I love introducing Chris to people as my husband. I will never tire of it. When we married, we had a moment of silence to give respect to those within our community who were not able to have this right, this dignity within their relationships. We do not take it for granted.” And what does Richard not take for granted about Chris? “That’s a tough one. I could say his eyes, his build, his furry body, but I do also love his mind. He’s a bright man, he reads a lot, and can talk to anyone about most anything. I’ve always found intelligence really attractive.” “But he also has a great heart: he loves fiercely. In my wedding vows, I told him that I was a better person for loving him and for being loved by him. And that is still true. Also, he has an a** that won’t quit, so there’s that.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

The GOP’s actual strategy against James Talarico? Call him a fa**ot
The corrupt Texas attorney general, Ken Paxton, won the GOP primary runoff for a U.S. Senate seat this week, making him the official candidate and opening the general election season, where he will face off against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico. The GOP isn’t very popular right now, and they’re stuck with a polarizing Senate candidate in Texas (Paxton’s own very Christian ex-wife publicly shamed him by saying she was leaving him for “biblical” reasons). Now, he’s facing a charismatic Democrat who wears his Christianity on his sleeve, and their strategy is… to call the Democrat a f*g. Related Trump is giving billions to victims of “lawfare” while working overtime to weaponize the judiciary “The Democrats made history in Texas by nominating their first transgender senate candidate,” White House advisor Stephen Miller quipped about Talarico, who is straight and cis. Republicans have been rattling off the same talking points about Talarico: he supports trans rights, he’s a “creep,” he doesn’t believe gender is a simple binary, and he doesn’t eat meat (read: he’s not a real man). So there is a memo going around. “He’s a vegan who thinks God is nonbinary and that there’s actually six biological sexes,” Paxton himself said this week in his victory speech. He has also called Talarico “Talafreako.” The president himself has been using those talking points without really even stringing them together into a coherent thought, almost like he was told to memorize them and spit them out at every opportunity. It’s the whole GOP. “Tala-freako is a creep, and uh, he thinks… He’s a vegan. He thinks God is nonbinary. He wants to mutilate children, he wants to put boys in girls’ locker rooms,” said RNC Chair Joe Gruters on Newsmax this week. Just use the F slur already this is taking all day.— Max Dubler (@maxdubler.com) 2026-05-27T15:41:31.420Z Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) made the same point more succinctly using the language common among conservative health influencers: “Low T.” Low T https://t.co/QR6FR46XO6— Brandon Gill (@realBrandonGill) May 27, 2026 On Fox News, host Jesse Watters stressed this week that Talarico isn’t married. Worse yet, while Talarico has a girlfriend, he appears to respect her, calling her his “best friend.” You know what that means…. “Talarico is also 37 and not married,” Watters said, knowing what he was implying. “Why haven’t we ever seen [his girlfriend] before?” Watters left out the fact that, in that same interview, Talarico stressed that they were in love, gave some concrete details about how they met, and said that he was worried about threats to his girlfriend’s life if her identity were made public. Watters: Talarico is also 37 and not married. He says he has a girlfriend. He called her his best friend. He’s not revealing her identity because he wants to protect her privacy. Why haven’t we ever seen her before? Does she exist? If he wins, are they going to have a coming out… pic.twitter.com/yFskJ7tcsm— Acyn (@Acyn) May 27, 2026 Fox’s Kennedy, when told Talarico is a seminarian, went vulgar: “He put the semen in seminarian.” This is the level of respect that conservatives afford gay men when they’re not being outwardly hostile. Kennedy on Talarico: This baby lotion soft child. He looks like such a beta male. Perino: They will say he's a seminarian, how dare you! Kennedy: He put the semen in seminarian… pic.twitter.com/6pyOzLTmC1— Acyn (@Acyn) May 27, 2026 Right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson – who has faced gay rumors himself – said that Talarico is proof that Democrats have “given up on masculinity, giving up on testosterone, they’ve given up entirely for effeminate, estrogenetic, uh, uh, uh, catty, and, and, and totally embarrassing candidates like Beto [O’Rourke] and ‘Beta’ here.” “You say you have a girlfriend, why don't you name her?”– Benny Johnson, a MAGA influencer, makes insinuations about James Talarico’s private life. Talarico is a Texas lawmaker and Democratic Senate candidate. @Acyn (2026) pic.twitter.com/NaxM1P4bN4— The Intellectualist (@highbrow_nobrow) May 28, 2026 Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) asked, “So what’s his name?” in reaction to a clip where Talarico talked about his girlfriend. Great… so what’s his name? https://t.co/QdJxzA2DXi— Wesley Hunt (@WesleyHuntTX) May 16, 2026 I could go on with the examples, and for the next few months, this is probably all that we’ll hear about Talarico. The GOP’s strategy is to treat him as they treat gay men, without literally calling him gay since there’s no reason to think he’s attracted to men. To conservatives, gay men are a symbol. To be gay is to be a failed man, and masculinity is a binary. There are real men, and there are failed men. There is no in-between. Gay men are the original failed men. The ones who, by definition, do not participate in the sexual domination of women, which is how someone, to them, takes on the social role of “man.” This is part of conservatives’ unconscious understanding of how the world works. Racking up enough non-masculine traits gets a person kicked out of the real man category, so they’re going to be carping on every little thing he does that might not be considered masculine. Hence the vegan thing (for the record, Talarico is not vegan). Watters himself has made a career out of nitpicking Democratic men’s behavior to show that they’re not real men, using everything from “they eat ice cream” to “no real man drinks from a straw” to attack their masculinity. The subtext of the Talarico vegan thing, and I’m not exaggerating about this, is that Texan men find it *deeply* emasculating to care about animal suffering. It is considered typical to teach your son to kill animals before age 10 specifically to prevent this.— ellie lockhart (she/they) (@eleanor.lockhart.contact) 2026-05-28T05:17:41.780Z They’ll say that these traits are a sign of something deep in Talarico, like that he has “low testosterone” or is a “beta” male. They can’t actually run a hormone or chromosome test on him to “prove” that he’s not a real man. All they want is for people to suspect that there’s something going on; they don’t need to prove anything. This is also why they will be stressing Talarico’s questioning of the gender binary, including his comments about how nonbinary and intersex people exist, how God is beyond the concept of gender, as well as his respect for his girlfriend as a human being. To question the binary is to question patriarchy itself, and real men are supposed to show solidarity for one another by supporting the patriarchy. And they’ll bring in the “creep,” “freak,” and probably “groomer” insults. When one’s entire understanding of humanity is based on a simplistic model like “Men are from Mars and women are from Venus,” then people who fall outside of that are unsettling and dangerous. Calling queer people a threat to children is one of the oldest slanders against us that they have. This all might seem rich for a political movement that has made one of its defining beliefs the idea that one’s gender identity is always the same as one’s sex assigned at birth and that one’s sex can never be changed. If you’re born with a penis, you’re a boy. If you’re born with a vagina, you’re a girl. It’s that simple, and there are no exceptions. So it’s remarkable that they’ll say that in one breath, and in the next, they’ll say that, actually, voting for a woman for elected office means that someone isn’t a real man, no matter his chromosomes or genitalia or whatever. I grew up in a conservative part of Indiana, and I remember some boys in eighth grade making lewd comments about a substitute teacher we had, who was a young woman. Another boy told them to knock it off, that they were being sexist and disrespectful. So they started hitting him and calling him a f*g. I don’t know if any of those boys actually thought that kid was gay or if they understood what that meant. I heard “f*g” and “fa**ot” dozens of times each day at school growing up in the 90s, starting in elementary school. It was not just the worst insult they had, it was by far the most common, the one they reflexively went to. It was the worst thing anyone could be, as decided by a bunch of kids who were likely incredibly insecure about their own genders. And that’s what I’m seeing in how the right is treating Talarico now. Jared Polis brutally mocked for “tape” picture about being silenced: “This is pathetic”
Out Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) is getting mocked online for a picture shared on social media of him with tape over his mouth, symbolizing how he has been silenced by the state Democratic Party, which voted to censure him last week. Earlier this month, Polis commuted former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters’ prison sentence. Peters was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2024 after she was convicted on nine charges connected to voting machine tampering, part of a plot to overturn the state’s 2020 election results and take electoral votes away from Joe Biden, who won Colorado that year. Related Dems pass “profound” law to protect trans kids who change their names Polis reduced her sentence and made her eligible for parole on June 1 of this year. So last week, the Colorado Democratic Party voted to censure Polis. The move bans him from speaking or participating in events sponsored by the state party. Polis, though, stands by the commutation, saying that it “will be remembered fondly.” Meanwhile, he appears to harbor some hard feelings toward the state party because he showed up to a video call with tape over his mouth. Pete Buttigieg leads Democrats in early presidential poll
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is Democratic voters’ top choice for a 2028 presidential nominee in a new poll from Emerson College Polling. In the results released earlier today, 18% of likely Democratic voters said they want Buttigieg to be the 2028 Democratic presidential nominee. Related Poll finds Americans really want AOC & Pete Buttigieg to run for president California Gov. Gavin Newsom got support from 16% of respondents, followed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) at 11%, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and former Vice President Kamala Harris at 10% each, and then Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear at 9%. Eighteen percent said they were undecided. The poll was conducted on May 24 and 25 with a sample of 432 likely Democratic voters. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Since the 2026 midterms have not yet happened, it’s unsurprising that none of these candidates has formally announced a 2028 campaign. Buttigieg has dropped a few hints that he is considering another run, eight years after his 2020 campaign made him the first out LGBTQ+ person to win a state primary. In April, Rev. Al Sharpton asked Buttigieg if he would be having lunch with him at Sylvia’s in 2028. The primary candidates dining at the famed Harlem restaurant with Sharpton is a Democratic tradition. “You save me a seat. I’ll be there,” Buttigieg responded. Buttigieg has been touring the country, holding town hall events, speaking at local Democratic functions, and showing his support for candidates up for reelection this year. These appearances have notably included several early primary states, like New Hampshire, where Buttigieg appeared in February to support out Rep. Chris Pappas’ (D-NH) Senate run, as well as Rep. Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), who is running for reelection in the state’s other congressional district. A reporter asked Buttigieg if he’s running in 2028, and he responded that he’s “a long way from any kind of decision.” “Campaigning in New Hampshire made me, I think, a better public servant,” he said. “The conversations that I had, the way that the size, the scale, and the civic spirit of this state really forces people on the national stage to stop and pay attention to things on a more immediate human scale.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Democrats shoot down Stephen Miller’s trans insult in just 5 words
The official X account of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) had just five pointed words to share with Donald Trump advisor Stephen Miller after he made a transphobic joke about Democratic Senate candidate and Texas state Rep. James Talarico. “The Democrats made history in Texas by nominating their first transgender senate candidate,” Miller wrote in response to a photo of Talarico posted by the Democratic party that declared, “It’s time to take back Texas.” Talarico’s skyrocketing popularity has spawned a bigoted GOP strategy of continuing to make Talarico look weak by calling him gay or trans (he is straight and cis). Related Medical expert gives surprising sign Trump may have a heart issue But the DNC had no time for schoolyard taunts. The account replied, “shut up you ugly f**k.” The clapback has racked up more than 31 million views and been reposted 30,000 times. Stephen Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, replied by publicly identifying the person who runs the account, Paulina Mangubat, no doubt aware that doing so could put her in danger of threats and violence. Katie Miller also appeared on Fox News to discuss the online exchange and claimed Mangubat’s comment is “the same violent political rhetoric that is leading people to shooting up, whether it be the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, or President Trump in Butler.” Many online pointed out the hypocrisy of her statement, considering the violent rhetoric the president himself churns out on an almost daily basis, in addition to similar sentiments shared by his political sycophants. Just this week, Trump shared an AI-generated photo of himself holding a gun and declaring, “NO RINOS,” which stands for Republicans In Name Only, a term the GOP has given to those who are essentially not loyal enough to Trump. The viciously anti-LGBTQ+ account Libs of TikTok – run by Chaya Raichik – also shared the DNC’s post, acting holier-than-thou by writing, “The official Democratic Party.” The official Democratic Party https://t.co/5gquFmY85B— Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) May 27, 2026 Yet, Raichik’s posts have been linked to multiple bomb threats across the country, although she has denied any responsibility. Her account regularly echoes right-wing claims of LGBTQ+ people and allies “indoctrinating,” ”grooming,” and “sexualizing” kids — rhetoric that leads to violence against queer people and allies. Her bio on X once proudly touted her being labeled as a “stochastic terrorist,” a person who uses mass media to provoke random acts of ideologically motivated violence. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. There are so many ways to sum up Bo Bichette's struggles since leaving the Toronto Blue Jays for the New York Mets. You can even use Andres Gimenez to do the trick.Gimenez is still with the Blue Jays, starting at shortstop now that Bichette is out of the way.The lefty-hitting Gimenez has never had a great bat, and he's not at his peak level of hitting at the moment, either.Despite that, this post on X is fully true:Andrés Giménez has more home runs, RBIs, stolen bases, doubles, triples, a higher OPS, and a higher WAR than Bo Bichette this season.— Chris Black (@DownToBlack) May 29, 2026Bichette has not done any sort of damage whatsoever for the Mets. He's batting .225, which is actually a tad bit of a hot streak to get up to that number. He's got five home runs in 227 at bats.Bichette actually has a negative-0.5 Wins Above Replacement in Baseball Reference's measurement. It doesn't make sense that the 28-year old Bichette has regressed to what is currently a .591 OPS, but somehow that's where he finds himself. There's obviously no way to know how he would've performed if he stayed with the Blue Jays. Maybe he'd be raking. But something is off for Bichette right now, and it hasn't turned itself around about two months into the season. It's hard to know if the rest of this Mets season will get any better for the $126 million signing.

Southview spoils Lexington comeback in district championship thriller
TIFFIN - J.R. Davis isn't typically an emotional guy.But even he couldn't hold back tears after Lexington's comeback attempt fell short in extras against Sylvania Southview in a Division III district title game; the two-seeded Cougars won 5-4 in nine innings over the five-seed Minutemen."One of our goals was to make the district championship," Davis said. "It has been hanging over their heads for the longest time, so being able to do that, I'm happy I could help them out with that."It's sad because this is such a great group of kids. When I came over they welcomed me with open arms, I've just had so much fun coaching."DIVISION VII: Plymouth freshman stellar in Big Red's district semifinal loss to MohawkDIVISION VII: South Central's calculated pitching risk pays off in win over LucasThe emotion after the game shows just how much this spring has meant to Davis. He took over the program in mid-September and worked tirelessly to make an impact in his debut season."We started off the year 0-4 and everybody was struggling, we were trying to figure out what to do," Davis said. "Then we end up 19-9 and that just tells the fight these guys have, they're not gonna give up."Ironically the Minutemen found themselves trailing 4-0 heading into the seventh inning after the Cougars scored one in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Through the first six innings Lexington had mustered just two hits against Southview's Ben Kotnik who had thrown just nine innings in the month of May, but got the nod Thursday."Coming in (Luke) Girlie was probably our No. 2, but due to an injury he had to catch," Southview coach Tim McCarthy said. "I thought maybe Benny's arm slot with that sling would give them some problems and he threw a great game."He was right as Kotnik's unique delivery from the side caused the Minutemen all sorts of issues for a majority of the game."We struggled for six innings to hit the ball and put the ball in play against him ... we were surprised when we saw him coming in with the stats he had, he didn't throw that many innings this year," Davis said. "But he came in and shoved it, he just kept us off balance and did a helluva job today."But once Markale Martin led off the seventh with a single up the middle, you could tell something special was brewing. Cooper Clark followed with a shot to right field and Carson Fisher was walked to load the bases. A sac fly from Brayden Vance scored Martin, Ben Young's single scored Clark, Tyler Galownia drove in Fisher, and Jack Eichorn's sac fly to centerfield tied the game seeing Young cross home plate. In the bottom, Cole Eichorn struck out the first batter, walked the second, then struck out the next two to send it to extras.Lexington drew a lead-off walk and then saw Martin intentionally walked to get runners on, but Cooper Clark grounded into a double play. Southview's Girlie hit a one-out single then saw his next two teammates intentionally walked to load the bases strategically — Cole Eichorn struck out the final two batters to get out of the jam and cap off a phenomenal effort on the bump.DIVISION VI: Zizzo sparks walk-off for Colonel Crawford over Wynford in districtsDIVISION VI: Spoerr shuts down Monroeville, powers Crestview into district final"Unbelievable," Davis said of his senior pitcher. "There were several times I had the earpiece to talk to him and I went out there once in the eighth inning and told him — hey man, it's the last batter — because he was at 120 or something, and he ended up striking out the kid ending up at 122. So I went to the mix and said — you got one more — he just keeps battling."At the beginning of the year he wasn't our No. 2, we were thinking of making him a non-conference guy. But with some pitching situations we had, he found his way to be our No. 2 throughout the year. Having him come in, me trusting him throwing in that situation and going eight innings until your arm falls off ... I'm just very proud."Girlie took the mound for the Cougars and struck out the side in the top of the ninth before going on to blast a ball into right field with two outs scoring Adam LePla for the walk-off."We knew we had to play clean defensively, which we did, and battle through a little adversity," McCarthy said. "We had a 4-0 lead and you hope it's over after that, but credit to them for battling back to tie the game and both of us trading blows at the end leaving guys on. We were just fortunate enough for Luke to get that hit there."That was the hit of a lifetime, a game-winning hit in a district final."The loss brought an end to the careers of 10 seniors, seven of which were starters. Eichorn finished with 11 strikeouts, six hits allowed, five walks, and four runs along with two hits and a walk drawn on offense; Galownia had an RBI single; Martin and Clark had a hit, run, walk apiece; Young had a hit, run, and RBI."I'm not a crier, but these kids are so great and that's what makes this so difficult," Davis said.zholden@gannett.com | 419-617-6018 | Twitter/X: @Zachary_HoldenThis article originally appeared on Mansfield News Journal: Lexington baseball's comeback attempt falls short in district final

Paul Skenes strikes out 10, including 7 of first 8 batters, but Pirates' defense falters in loss to Cubs
Paul Skenes mustered just two strikeouts over the weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays. He gave up at least four earned runs for the second start in a row. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner conceded a leadoff homer, a bad omen on a day when he surrendered nine hits, the most he’s been responsible for in a game this season.Back at home on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs, Skenes recalibrated. He dialed up some of his best stuff, except even that wasn’t enough to return him to the win column. He struck out seven of the first eight batters he faced and clocked out with 10 Ks. Although he was pegged for three runs, only one of them was earned. Back-to-back errors in the sixth were catalysts for the other two. Skenes didn’t get the support he needed, from his defense or from a Pirates lineup that came up well short in a 7-2 defeat. The righty’s record fell to 6-5. That said, his ERA dropped, too. That number dipped below three and now sits at 2.89 as the calendar readies a flip to June. The Pirates (29-28) wound up splitting the four-game series against the Cubs (31-26), who snapped their 10-game losing streak on Wednesday, as the NL Central standings continue to shape shift.Skenes came in with wildly disproportionate numbers in day and night games this season. He kept on dazzling under the lights Thursday.Right away, he used a 99-mph four-seam fastball to get Pete Crow-Armstrong looking. He wrapped the top of the first with an 89-mph changeup that produced a whiff from Michael Busch.Skenes fanned the side in the second, punching out both Alex Bregman and Seiya Suzuki with his sweeper. For the third time in his career, he mounted seven Ks through the first three innings. He accomplished that feat twice during his NL Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024, per MLB.com. One of his three walks on the night, an infield single and then a Suzuki bloop single to left paved the way for the Cubs’ first run. That arrived in the fourth. In the sixth, though, Skenes’ infield let him down. Granted he issued a four-pitch walk to Busch, but then Bregman reached base due to a throwing error from third baseman Tyler Callihan, whom the Pirates recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis as Konnor Griffin sat out with right forearm soreness.Another errant throw, that one from fill-in shortstop Jared Triolo, on the very next play resulted in the Cubs tacking on a run and Ian Happ making it to first. Skenes was pulled, and then Bregman scored on a subsequent fielder’s choice while reliever Mason Montgomery was on the bump.A Bryan Reynolds solo shot and a Callihan RBI double made it a 3-2 game in the bottom half of that frame. That said, the Cubs ended up creating more separation, in part thanks to a two-run blast from Happ in the eighth that further rendered Skenes’ bounce-back performance obsolete.

Hinduism’s queer history provides a “sword of knowledge” for fighting anti-LGBTQ+ bias
With LGBTQ+ identity under attack by radical governments and religious conservatives around the world, how should gay and trans people respond? We “confront this challenge with knowledge,” says Amara Das Wilhelm, a Hindu priest who has spent the last 30 years ministering to LGBTQ+ people. “The sword of knowledge is very helpful and powerful.” Related Seminary leader: Anti-LGBTQ+ politics are a “distraction” from the Gospel’s true mission Amara Das joined the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in 1974 and earned both his “harinama” and “brahmana” initiations (for chanting and sacred rituals) two years later at just 19. In 2004, he published “Tritiya-Prakriti: People of the Third Sex,” a landmark article explaining Vedic Hinduism’s traditional accommodation of sex- and gender-minorities in society. “In Hinduism, God is recognized as unlimited and untethered by any gender restrictions,” Amara Das says. It’s a conception that cascades through the religion and informs Hinduism’s “foremost quality”: compassion. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Amara Das shared his thoughts on the challenges confronting LGBTQ+ people today from his home in Honolulu, Hawaii. LGBTQ Nation: In 2001, you founded the Gay and Lesbian Vaishnava Association, known as GALVA-108, the world’s first LGBTQ+ Hindu religious organization. What inspired you to start the group, and how do you describe its mission? Amara Das Wilhelm: The main inspiration to found GALVA-108 was my spiritual master or guru, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Knowing his desire to see all different types of people make spiritual advancement and engage in the chanting of Hare Krishna, and at the same time seeing many misunderstandings and even some exclusion or ridicule of LGBTI+ people within his mission, I felt it important to research the matter thoroughly from a personal and more positive perspective. The Vedic literatures really stand out as different from the Abrahamic views of homosexuality and transgender identity. I suppose I could sum up the main mission of GALVA-108 as to educate Vaishnavas and Hindus about the Vedic (ancient, traditional Hindu) understanding of LGBTI+ people, known as “tritiya-prakriti” or the third sex in Sanskrit. Knowledge is a powerful tool in dispelling misunderstandings, fear, and doubts about the unknown. What does the “108” in the name represent? 108 is a very auspicious number in Vaishnava Hinduism and symbolizes several different things. For instance, we chant on 108 beads and Lord Krishna has 108 groups of cows, as well as 108 prominent “gopis,” or milkmaid girlfriends. [They symbolize the pinnacle of bhakti (pure, selfless devotion) to Lord Krishna, leaving behind their worldly duties to surrender to the divine.] An illustration of the Hindu God Krishna | Shutterstock Most conservative theologians interpret the Bible, the Koran, and other religious texts to outlaw homosexuality. Broadly, what did you learn from the Vedic and Hindu scriptural canon that contradicts that claim among Hindus who demonize LGBTQ+ people? Yes, the Vedic literatures really stand out as different from the Abrahamic views of homosexuality and transgender identity. First of all, three natural sexes or genders are clearly mentioned and described throughout the religious scriptures, or “sastra.” This is opposed to the “two-gender only” stance maintained by most other faiths. Briefly, the three sexes mentioned are cisgender heterosexual males, cisgender heterosexual females, and a third sex that contains various combinations of the two. This third sex is more in line with many of the other indigenous beliefs in the world, such as the two-spirits of Native Americans or the “mahu” (transwomen) of Polynesia. Just knowing that the Vedic canon acknowledges a natural third sex or gender can go a long way in dispelling the fears and demonic ideas people may have about sexually- or gender-different people. Is there a particular passage or example you can share that illustrates the accommodation Hinduism provides for LGBTQ+ people? Oh wow. There are so many, but perhaps the best-known examples are the passages from the Kama-sutra about gay men, and also a story from the Mahabharata [one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India]. The Kama-sutra [an ancient Sanskrit text on sexuality, eroticism, and emotional fulfillment] provides various details about the practices of gay men and how they were commonly engaged as barbers, masseurs, florists, etc. in Vedic society. The Mahabharata describes how Maharaja Virata, a great king of Vedic India, welcomed the transwoman Brihannala into his kingdom. Brihannala enters the kingdom as a transwoman dressed in female attire, despite a somewhat manly physique, and professing to be a teacher of all the fine arts. Maharaja Virata kindly welcomes Brihannala into his kingdom, allowing her to live in the female quarters and become a teacher to all the ladies of the palace, a typical role for transwomen in ancient India, and also here where I live in Polynesia. The cover for a modern book on the Kama-sutra. What else can you share about attitudes toward same-sex relationships in Hinduism? Christian conservatives cite a Biblical claim that for a man to lie with a man, it’s an abomination. Is there something similar in Vedic literature, and something that contradicts it? The negative attitudes we find in Hinduism today come from the many centuries of foreign rule — first by the Islamic Moghuls and then, especially, under the British. Otherwise, prior to foreign rule, same-sex relationships were considered a natural variation of desire in India, especially among people of the third sex. There are some mild prohibitions of homosexuality in religious texts such as Manu-samhita [an ancient foundational text of Hindu law and society], but only in regard to brahmanas [priests], who were held to much higher standards than the ordinary population. For example, if a brahmana engaged in homosexual acts, it would be considered a mild sin; he would atone for it by taking a ritual bath, and if the behavior continued, he would leave his brahminical post and serve society in other ways that were less demanding. In terms of lesbianism, Manu-samhita prohibits it only when the violation of underage girls is concerned. What is a quality in Hinduism that on its face contradicts a derogatory judgment of LGBTQ+ people? The foremost quality in Hinduism is compassion. It is considered to be the highest dharma or righteous path. This compassion is extended to all beings, even the animals. So, what to speak of other types of human beings? Everyone is to be treated kindly and everyone is to be included in society. These are all very important Hindu and Vaishnava principles. There are actually many, many different manifestations of God, the Goddess, and various demigods that display various types of gender transformations and varieties. I don’t think any other religion does this to such an extent. You’ve written that even some liberal members of your own order, ISHKON, have expressed “well-intended yet uninformed views” of LGBTQ+ people. Can you share some examples? Yes. Just before I started GALVA-108, there was a Godbrother of mine named Bhakti Tirtha Swami. In one of his books, he expressed some fear that homosexuals were increasing in the modern age and pondered over what could be done about it. He was actually a very compassionate and open-minded leader within ISKCON, but he didn’t yet know about the Vedic concept of a third sex. He read my original article, “Tritiya Prakriti: People of the Third Sex,” which really piqued his interest. Around that same time, an ISKCON member, a young gay man, committed suicide in the backyard of an ISKCON temple after he was rejected for being gay. The incident really touched Bhakti Tirtha Swami, and after that, he sincerely began trying to understand LGBT+ people and address their concerns.Among Vaishnavas — one of the largest major denominations within Hinduism, which includes your own — the Supreme Being is personal and accessible, and the path to liberation is through intense love, devotion, and surrender to the divine. How do those beliefs inspire accommodation for sex- and gender-minorities in society? The personal aspect of God (and also the Goddess) in Vaishnava Hinduism is very helpful to LGBTI+ devotees in several ways. First of all, many of the manifestations of God, and even lesser demigod types, display numerous examples of sex and gender variations. They manifest all three types of gender. For example, Lord Krishna is considered the Supreme Male, and His consort, Sri Radha, the Supreme Female. They also combine together into one form as Lord Caitanya — Radha and Krishna combined. There are many similar examples of Lord Siva, Lord Vishnu, and others displaying similar third gender forms of male and female. These forms are very dear and interesting, especially for LGBTI Hindus and Vaishnavas. There are actually many, many different manifestations of God, the Goddess, and various demigods that display various types of gender transformations and varieties. I don’t think any other religion does this to such an extent. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the three main deities of Hinduism | Shutterstock What are some of the “false conceptions” that inspire discrimination by conservative Hindus who express animus for LGBTQ+ people? Basically, these are the standard misconceptions promoted by Abrahamic faiths. Western devotees, raised in Christian families, often bring these misconceptions with them to Hinduism, and Hindus, influenced by early British laws, schools, and Islam, are raised with them. These include such ideas that LGBTI+ identity is demonic, unnatural, something in need of correction, and so on. These misconceptions are still very prominent among Hindu families in India and South Asia. According to Vedic texts, homosexuality and transgender identity are developed within the womb (during the second month of gestation) due to variations in hormones. It is not something that is wrong or can be corrected. Since 2004, you’ve updated your foundational text with new research, more than doubling the book’s length. What have you learned in those intervening years that you didn’t know when you started? The Vedic (Hindu) canon is extremely voluminous. There are still many of the Puranas [a vast genre of ancient Hindu texts] that I have not studied or even read. I learned more about all the different demigods and forms of God that were gender-variant. I especially acquired more knowledge from the medical scriptures (Ayur-veda) describing LGBTI+ identity as inborn, the various Vedic lawbooks (Narada-smriti, Manu Samhita, Artha sastra, and others), and learned a lot more from all the astrological texts (Jyotir sastra). I’m sure there are still many texts to be discovered. The LGBTQ+ community today is confronted with hostility from some members of organized religion and governments in the United States and around the world. How do gay and third sex Vaishnavas and Hindus approach this challenge, or is it considered a challenge at all within the framework of their beliefs? We, first of all, confront this challenge with knowledge. The sword of knowledge is very helpful and powerful. People may have so many opinions, but what do the scriptures actually say? There are also some people who are inimical by nature and whose minds cannot be changed. For those types, it is best to avoid them and not waste time in arguments. I advise members who come to me for help to focus on the positive and avoid the negative. Associate with persons who are favorable, friendly, open- and like-minded. Good association is very important on the spiritual path, whereas bad, negative association can harm it. Like any other faith, there are favorable, liberal-minded Hindus and inimical, closed-minded ones. So, it is important to associate with other adherents and attend temples that are favorable. We have also created the GALVA-108 groups on the internet for those who may not have access to good association where they live. July 29, 2023 – Hare Rama, Hare Krishna Monks singing and chanting. | Shutterstock How can society at large today benefit from the example of Vedic Hinduism’s traditional accommodation of LGBTQ+ people? And what can LGBTQ+ people learn from the same example? Society has much to benefit by studying the ancient, pre-Abrahamic approaches to accommodating LGBTIQ+ people. Not just the Vedic but also the Native American, Polynesian, Greek, Roman, and other indigenous cultures around the world. Sex- and gender-variant people were not always stigmatized in society. Rather, they often held valuable and esteemed posts. The modern-day vilification of LGBT+ people can be taken as a symptom of this modern age of Kali-yuga, a degraded age when people argue endlessly and abuse one another. But by studying ancient, indigenous cultures that were much closer to nature and humanity than we are presently in these mechanical, technological, and often impersonal times, we can learn much. And LGBTI+ people will feel much better about themselves and the current state of things when they learn it hasn’t always, and doesn’t have to be, this way. Scott Bessent busted writing “concerning” affirmation to himself during Cabinet meeting
A photo of gay Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s motivational notes to himself is making the rounds after a photographer captured it during a Wednesday Cabinet meeting that covered issues such as the war in Iran and the worsening Ebola crisis. The administration continues to claim that the skyrocketing cost of gas is the necessary price Americans must pay for the war, despite the fact that no one really understands why the president started the war in the first place or what its goals are. There’s an actress in a movie… This is a hard question… Boy Meets Girl, I think, that could maybe play me.” PabloReports: Who would you have play Sarah McBride in a biopic about Sarah McBride?McBride: Oh, dear God. Well, it’d have to be a trans actress. Subscribe to our Newsletter today It’s most likely that McBride is referring to Michelle Hendley, a trans actress who plays Ricky, one of the leads in 2014’s rom-com Boy Meets Girl. While the actress in the movie bears a resemblance to McBride, the congresswoman might be out of luck if a biopic were to be made, as Henley seems to have left acting. Her last acting credit is from 2020, and her social media content has gone in a new direction. McBride’s immediate note that “it’d have to be a trans actress” taps into an important cultural discussion around trans representation in media that has been going on for decades, and highlights where McBride is in the conversation at this point. Prior to 2015, it was common for cis actors to play trans characters, and those roles tended to be villainous, depicted as immoral, or were the butt of a joke in some way. Alternatively, the characters were a cis person’s idea of a trans person, in which the trans identity is the whole fascination of the role and the narrative, with representation failing to be authentic. That those roles went to cis actors has also shut trans actors out of the film world for years, since trans actors weren’t getting cast in cis roles either. While there might be a hypothetical time in the future where a cis person playing a trans character could be acceptable to the community, trans people remain such a marginalized and maligned community that it won’t be any time soon. This is especially true when playing a real person and a key trans figure like McBride. McBride’s obvious awareness of that issue is telling. In the wake of the election, McBride tried to distance herself from being seen as “the trans representative” and the assumption that she would want to just focus on trans rights while in office. Throughout her campaign, she spoke about household issues affecting the people of Delaware and has remained dedicated to representing her constituents’ interests. However, that led to criticisms when she declined to stand up to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and their anti-trans crusade that led to a trans bathroom bill at the Capitol. As the anti-trans movement has focused more on McBride and she’s found herself repeatedly targeted by her far-right co-workers, McBride has been on the offensive more in recent months. That’s included more chiming in on social media and calling out anti-trans Republicans, as well as reaching across the aisle to get Republicans to vote in favor of trans rights. A simple question about who could play her in the movie is the latest sign that she’s willing to have a more active role in the conversation about trans rights. After the question about the biopic, Manríquez moved on to asking about the DNC’s autopsy of the 2024 election. Man charged with stabbing gay dancer O’Shae Sibley claims “it wasn’t my intention to hurt”
Dmitry Popov, the man accused of murdering O’Shae Sibley, testified this week that he did not intend to hurt the 28-year-old gay dancer. On Wednesday, Popov took the stand to testify in his murder trial. The now-20-year-old was arrested in 2023 and charged with second-degree murder as a hate crime in connection with Sibley’s death following a confrontation with Popov, who was 17 at the time, and others. Related The LGBTQ+ community mourns O’Shae Sibley in memorials across New York City According to witnesses and security camera footage, Sibley and four friends were returning from a trip to the beach on July 29, 2023, when they stopped at a Brooklyn gas station. Sibley, a professional dancer, was voguing to a Beyoncé song in the parking lot when a group of young men reportedly told him to stop. Witnesses said that the young men cited their Muslim faith as a reason that Sibley had to stop dancing, and others claimed the group used racist and anti-gay slurs. Popov’s attorney later noted that his client is not Muslim, describing him as “a good Christian boy.” Surveillance video of the altercation reportedly shows Sibley and friends exchanging heated words with the young men, one of whom can be seen recording the interaction with his phone. According to CBS News, the two groups eventually began to disperse, but one witness claimed the group of young men continued to harass Sibley and his friends as they were leaving. Another witness claimed the group may have continued to make anti-LGBTQ+ comments. Sibley’s group returned to the storefront to confront the other group, and a fight broke out between Sibley and the man recording on his phone. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The suspect stabbed Sibley in the torso and ran off. Sibley was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died. Popov, who has pleaded not guilty, testified Wednesday that while his friends used anti-gay slurs during their interaction with Sibley, he never did, CBS reported. “I was telling them, you guys get out of here,” Popov told the court. When Sibley and his friends allegedly returned to the scene, Popov said, “I felt I was slowly getting surrounded.” Popov admitted to pulling a kitchen knife from his pocket, which he claimed was meant to show Sibley and others they should “keep a distance.” He claimed one of Sibley’s friends told him to “put the knife down, let’s fight.” Video of the altercation reportedly shows Sibley running at Popov. When prosecutors suggested Wednesday that Popov should have turned and run away at that point, Popov told the court that he “didn’t want to be hit from the back.” “It wasn’t my intention to hurt,” he claimed. Defense attorney Mark Pollard argued that Popov was acting in self-defense. “At that moment, as a 17-year-old boy, thinking like a 17-year-old boy, he did what he thought was reasonable, necessary, and I’m talking about in seconds. He thought about this in seconds, and that’s how we ended up here,” Pollard told the court. Popov faces life in prison if convicted. His trial continues this week. Trans prom king speaks out as critics whine about “woke agenda”
Community members surrounding the White County High School of Cleveland, Georgia are standing up to those upset over the fact that students elected transgender student Willow Polangco-Kenney as their prom king last month. Polangco-Kenney herself has spoken out, noting that people’s hatred has overlooked the prom queen’s beauty and the student body’s love and support. Junior and senior students at the school (which has approximately 1,140 students) elected the royal couple by vote at the end-of-year dance event. The attendees chose Polangco-Kenney, a trans-femme theatre arts student who was assigned a male gender at birth, as prom king and Katie Nanney, a cisgender Christian girl, as prom queen. Related Teen dazzles prom in full drag as teachers & peers cheer him on: “I love this side of myself” After images of the royal couple began circulating online, White County School Superintendent Jonathan Stribling issued an April 20 letter addressed to the community in which he encouraged “open and respectful dialogue” but wrote, “Let me be clear: the actions and personal choices of an individual student at a school event do not represent a shift in the mission, values, or educational priorities of White County Schools.” “School-sponsored events like prom are meant to be celebratory occasions for students and families,” Stribling wrote. “While we establish guidelines for conduct and attire, there are limits to how far schools can and should regulate individual expression,” he added, noting, “There was no violation of the code of conduct” at the prom. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today He said the district “is not promoting any political or social agenda” and remains focused on “student safety, academic excellence, character development, and preparing students for responsible citizenship.” In an April 19 Instagram video, Polangco-Kenney said that people shouldn’t be mad at the school because its administrators have never supported her gender identity. “At White County High School, I’m not supported. I am not safe,” she said. “I had to get special provisions to even let me use a restroom because there’s not an accessible restroom downstairs at the Performing Arts Center, which accessible restrooms are supposed to be a thing everywhere. And I get looked at like I’m crazy and told absolutely insane things just because I have to go pee, and there’s a whole procedure for me. There is so much that I have to deal with, and it’s all so that the school doesn’t have to acknowledge or support me.” “But you know who does support me? [It’s] the student body,” she continued. “The other students are wonderful people, and a lot of them happen to love love and happen to love when people are able to express themselves and happen to believe in the American idea of freedom of speech and freedom of expression, and none of that comes from the school. The school does not support that.” I feel like, maybe, by the mere act of existing and being prom royalty with [the prom queen], I have taken away an amount of spotlight that is now being occupied entirely by people’s hatred, when really we should be celebrating how awesome [she] is.”Willow Polangco-Kenney, trans prom queen of White County High School in Cleveland, Georgia In a separate April 19 video, she said “I think that we need to acknowledge the real biggest takeaway of this situation, which is that people care way more about what they hate than what they love, because people are not talking nearly enough about how freaking awesome it is that Katie Nanney won prom queen!” “Katie Nanney is a wonderful human being,” Polangco-Kenney continued. “She is so kind. She is so caring. She gives so many people so much joy, and she makes your day every time you talk to her, and she’s just great and she absolutely deserved it, and I’m so happy she got it and she was just like ecstatic about it.” “And I want to apologize, honestly, because I feel like, maybe, by the mere act of existing and being prom royalty with her, I have taken away an amount of spotlight that is now being occupied entirely by people’s hatred, when really we should be celebrating how awesome Katie is.” In response to the video, Nanney wrote to Polangco-Kenney, “You are truly the kindest human. I am so grateful to know you, thank you.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mayuri Joshi (@may.u.joshi) Kara Zajac, a queer woman who lives near White County with her wife and daughter, wrote of Polangco-Kenney’s election, stating, “I had never been so proud of that student’s courage for being true to herself and not hiding, and of White County’s students for their inclusivity.” “It seemed the students had adopted a live-and-let-live attitude, one of compassion, acceptance, and understanding, the opposite of the anti-trans hatred that has dominated news headlines for several years,” Zajac added. She noted that a local pastor wrote a Facebook post criticizing the school for allowing Polangco-Kenney to win, lamenting society’s “woke agenda,” and expressing embarrassment for being an alum of the school. However, the pastor edited their post and stopped allowing comments after many commenters opposed his message. “All I can hope is that maybe that experience opened the pastor’s mind a little, that it helped him see that this student could be his child, or sibling, or friend, who’s afraid to reveal their true self because of his rigid religious beliefs,” Zajac wrote. White County, Georgia has about 29,800 residents, is 94.4% white, and voted for the current president by a margin of 84.02% in 2024, according to the U.S. Census and EnhancedVoting.com. Wembanyama was all business in Game 6 of West finals. It earned him and the Spurs a chance at Game 7
Victor Wembanyama looked different in Game 6. In every way. There was the Shaolin robe that the San Antonio star wore to his home arena on Thursday night, an obvious nod to his two-week stay last summer at a Chinese temple he visited while seeking physical, mental and spiritual growth. There was the freshly cropped hair, another sign that he was all business. And on the court, he was back to his dominant self as well.Facing an elimination game for the first time in his career, Wembanyama — who had a fiery pregame address for teammates, something he doesn't typically do — seemed as comfortable as could be. He had 28 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists, on 10-for-21 shooting in 28 minutes, leading the Spurs past the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 to tie the Western Conference finals at 3-3.Game 7 is Saturday night in Oklahoma City, the place where Wembanyama started this West title series with a 41-point, 24-rebound masterpiece that carried the Spurs to a double-overtime win. If he gets another win on Saturday, he and the Spurs will be heading to the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks. From the outset, Wembanyama's imprint was on Game 6. After winning the opening tip-off, his next three plays went like this — made 3-pointer, blocked shot, another made 3-pointer. The tone was set, and the Spurs never trailed. He got most of the fourth quarter off, with the game having long been decided. Game 6 wasn't over, but it's a safe bet that Wembanyama was already thinking about Game 7. Harrison Barnes, the team's third-oldest player, was in Wembanyama's ear during the fourth quarter on the Spurs' bench, offering some wisdom. He spoke. Wembanyama nodded. Whatever the message was, it was clear. The formula for this series held true again Thursday. When Wembanyama is the most dominant player, the Spurs have won. When he isn't, they've lost. Good hasn't been good enough — in the three Spurs losses, he's averaged 22.3 points on 43% shooting. In the three Spurs wins, he's averaged 34 points on 51% shooting.___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/nba

Ajax set to appoint La Liga manager as exit confirmed by club
Ajax set to appoint La Liga manager as exit confirmed by clubAjax are set to shop in La Liga for their next manager, with a move to appoint Michel Sanchez moving one step closer to completion.Just two season after guiding Girona into the Champions League for the first time their history, Michel was unable to stop them from being relegated at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Despite this, the 50-year-old’s stop remains very high, and he will not stick around in Segunda in order to move to Amsterdam. It’s been in the pipeline for a couple of weeks that Michel would be joining Ajax in the summer, but the next step towards this happening has now taken place – that’s because Girona have confirmed in an official statement that the former Rayo Vallecano and Huesca manager has left Montilivi following relegation.“Míchel Sánchez will not continue at Girona FC. The club would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Madrid coach for the dedication, commitment and professionalism with which he has led the first team, as well as for the human, close and respectful treatment he has maintained at all times with the members, fans, management and all the workers of the Club.”Michel had a memorable spell in CataloniaAlthough it turned out to be a disappointing end for Girona, there is no doubt that Michel will leave the Catalan club with a very good reputation among the supporters. Guiding them to the Champions League in 2024 is something that many will remember for a very long time, which is why they will let him go to Ajax with their best wishes.Girona must now begin their search for a new manager. It will not be easy to attract the level of coach they would have wanted given their relegation, and on top of this, it would be no surprise to see their squad picked apart over the summer.

Azzi Fudd shines in first career start, leading Dallas Wings to victory
It took seven games for Azzi Fudd to earn the first start of her professional career. She shouldn’t be headed back to the bench anytime soon.Fudd replaced Odyssey Sims in the Dallas Wings’ starting lineup in Thursday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces, and she tied for a game-high 22 points in the Wings’ 95-87 victory over the defending champions. After a two-minute rest in the first quarter, the rookie didn’t sit for the remainder of the evening, and Dallas was plus-15 in her minutes.“It’s an honor, and I don’t take it lightly,” Fudd said after the win. “To be on the floor, whether it’s coming off the bench or starting, (I’m) super grateful.”The starting perimeter group of Sims, Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale had a net rating of minus-18 points per 100 possessions entering Thursday. Sub in Fudd for Sims, and the rating bumped to plus-20.9. The Wings saw the full effect of that change in their win over the New York Liberty on Sunday, when Fudd took Sims’ place to start the third quarter — and Awak Kuier came in for Alanna Smith — to spark a 16-point second-half turnaround. That performance led to Fudd, the No. 1 draft pick this year, joining the starting five, and she responded with another efficient outing. She shot 9 of 15 from the field and made 3 of 5 3-pointers, adding two assists to zero turnovers. She was shot-ready whenever the ball came to her, including a rapid-release 3-pointer with 4:15 to play after Las Vegas had cut the lead to one possession. Fudd also had a step-back 3-pointer that sent Stephanie Talbot to the floor in the third quarter.“She gets to her spots,” coach Jose Fernandez said. “She’s very confident in her shot, and her teammates find her, which they should, right?…. I like seeing her being so aggressive.”Fudd’s emergence has come in concert with a playmaking surge from Jessica Shepard. The Wings wanted a point guard next to Bueckers and Ogunbowale in the starting lineup, which is what pushed Fudd to the bench, but the playmaking has instead come from Shepard at the five spot. Shepard has done a little bit of everything for Dallas. On Thursday, she became the second player in WNBA history to post at least 20 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a game, joining Alyssa Thomas.Playing Fudd more often has improved the Wings’ defense because of her size (5-foot-11) compared to Sims (5-8). With 6-6 forward Kuier also getting more run at the expense of Smith and Maddy Siegrist, Dallas is deceptively long and athletic. The Aces couldn’t find openings through the defense and managed only 34 points in the second half. Fudd and Bueckers combined for three blocks, and Fudd added a steal. The Wings are now 5-3 — a significant improvement from last season, when it took them until June 28 to earn as many victories. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Dallas Wings, WNBA2026 The Athletic Media Company

Wembanyama and aggressive Spurs force game seven against Thunder
Victor Wembanyama came out of the blocks with ferocious intent (Ronald Cortes)Victor Wembanyama scored 28 points as the San Antonio Spurs forced a decisive game seven in their thrilling NBA Western Conference finals series against Oklahoma City, leading throughout an emphatic 118-91 win Thursday. The Spurs were aggressive in a win-or-go-home clash with the defending champion Thunder, roared on by a boisterous crowd to keep alive their hopes of reaching the NBA Finals, where the red-hot New York Knicks await.Dylan Harper added 18 points from the bench as San Antonio bounced back from Tuesday's disappointing loss to tie up the best-of-seven series at 3-3. The final game takes place in Oklahoma City on Saturday."We ain't done nothing yet," said Wembanyama, who collected 10 rebounds and made three blocks.Wembanyama, after an uncharacteristically poor game five, arrived at his first-ever playoff elimination game with ferocious intent. The seven-foot-four French superstar -- this season's NBA Defensive Player of the Year -- came out of the blocks fast, following his teammate Julian Champagnie's quickfire three-pointer with two pinpoint range efforts of his own, plus a block, to open an almost immediate 9-2 Spurs lead. Reigning two-time Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander -- who poured in 32 points in the previous game -- looked unsettled. He was swarmed by the Spurs defense, missing multiple mid-range efforts. The sharp-shooting Spurs' eight three-pointers in the first quarter were their most of any post-season quarter this year.Wembanyama and San Antonio's energy and shot accuracy dipped slightly in the second quarter. The Thunder headed into the half-time break somehow just seven points down. But the Spurs went on an astonishing 20-0 run in the third quarter to put the game out of sight. They were assisted by a disintegrating Oklahoma City offense that missed 13 field goal attempts in a row and went scoreless for more than seven minutes, scoring just 13 points in the third quarter. With six minutes left, and the Spurs up 28 points, both teams' starters were benched to rest up for the decider, and the home crowd began to sing "Ole".Having spurned this chance to become the first team to reach back-to-back NBA Finals since the Golden State Warriors in 2019, the Thunder will have another opportunity on home court this weekend. The Knicks will play the victors, well rested after sweeping both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers in an 11-game winning streak on their way to the finals. amz/pst

College quarterback uses loophole to enter transfer portal
Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty ImagesThe NCAA transfer portal for college football players may have closed back in January, but one college quarterback just entered the transfer portal this week using a genius loophole. While the transfer portal is a popular option for college players looking to explore other opportunities at other schools, there are limitations. A player can only enter the transfer portal during the designated transfer portal window, which opened on Jan. 2, 2026, and ran for 15 days, closing on Jan. 16, 2026. Players cannot enter the portal outside of that window. However, UCLA quarterback Karson Gordon appears to have found a genius loophole that would allow him to transfer to another football program and play there next fall.On Thursday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that the redshirt sophomore quarterback/receiver was entering the transfer portal, but not as a football player. Instead, Gordon decided to enter the portal as a track and field athlete even though he plans to also play football at his next school.“Despite entering the portal as a track and field athlete, Gordon can sign with any program as a two-sport athlete, meaning he can join any interested football program ahead of the upcoming Fall semester. The NCAA’s month-long track and field portal window opened Thursday and will close on June 26,” On3 reported. It’s worth noting that while this does make use of a loophole that would allow Gordon to effectively transfer to a new football team, he is a perfectly capable track athlete, as well. In fact, he’s a national champion.Gordon has been a member of the UCLA track and field team in the past, last competing during the 2025 indoor season as a triple jumper, and he’s been quite successful. Gordon set a personal record with a winning jump of 51 feet, 11 inches at the Spokane Sports Showcase in January 2025. Gordon also won a national championship in the triple jump with a leap of 51-4.5 at the 2023 Nike Outdoor Nationals. We’ll have to see where Gordon ultimately ends up after this decision. The post College quarterback uses loophole to enter transfer portal appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.

Oklahoma City Thunder couldn’t handle San Antonio Spurs physical game six
The NBA Playoffs are now just one game away from determining who will face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. After the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers, attention shifted to a pivotal Game 6 in the Western Conference Finals. The Oklahoma City Thunder had an opportunity to close out the series on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. Not only did they fail to get the job done, but they were also thoroughly outplayed. The Spurs embraced a physical style from the opening tip and never backed down, setting the tone throughout the night.MORE: Underdog refuses to back down amid Shai Gilgeous-Alexander controversyVictor Wembanyama led San Antonio onto the floor with a clear mission: intimidate the defending champions. The Spurs delivered a relentless performance that repeatedly made Oklahoma City look overmatched.May 28, 2026; San Antonio, Texas, USA; Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain (3) dribbles the ball against San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper (2) in the second half during game six of the western conference finals for the 2026 NBA playoffs at Frost Bank Center. Mandatory Credit: Daniel Dunn-Imagn ImagesTheir physical approach paid off. San Antonio secured the victory while holding the Thunder to just 37% shooting from the field and 25% from three-point range. Oklahoma City never found an offensive rhythm.Wembanyama anchored the effort with three blocks, 10 rebounds, and two steals. His performance embodied everything the Spurs wanted to accomplish defensively as they dismantled the defending champions. The Spurs’ 27-point win was so dominant that even Skip Bayless took to X to react. Bayless sharply criticized the Thunder’s lack of competitiveness, writing, “I’m about to unleash a video on the all-time sorry and shameful performance the Oklahoma City Thunder just put on national display in Game 6.”MORE: NBA ‘Super Teams’ are thing of the past & here’s why The play that may have best summarized the night wasn’t a basket at all. Instead, it was a hard foul by Carter Bryant on reigning NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.While battling for a loose ball, Bryant crashed into Gilgeous-Alexander while pursuing an offensive rebound, sending him to the floor. After facing frequent criticism from fans and media for allegedly embellishing contact, Gilgeous-Alexander had little choice but to absorb the hit on this play. The series now heads back to Oklahoma City for a decisive Game 7. The Spurs successfully fed off their home crowd and used that energy to fuel their aggressive, physical approach. The question now is whether they can replicate that intensity on the road and send the defending champions home.

‘It’s been a grind’: Chicago Cubs offense showing signs of life after salvaging series split with 7-2 win
PITTSBURGH — Chicago Cubs hitting coach Dustin Kelly knew the questions were coming. That’s the life of a big-league hitting coach. The Cubs’ 10-game losing streak and the lineup’s prolonged top-to-bottom slump over the last two weeks naturally invites more scrutiny for an offense that’s better than what it has shown. After snapping the skid with Wednesday’s blowout win, the Cubs salvaged a split of their four-game series in Pittsburgh by taking advantage of defensive miscues to beat Pirates ace Paul Skenes in a 7-2 victory. The Cubs (31-26) still struggled with runners in scoring position, going 2-for-10 and leaving eight on base, but they did enough to come away with the win.Even on the heels of a 10-run night Wednesday at PNC Park, the Cubs came into the series finale tied for the second-fewest runs scored and third-lowest wRC+ (weighted runs created plus) in the majors over the previous 19 days.“Obviously the last couple years our offenses have gone into little spells, but not like this,” Kelly told the Tribune before Wednesday’s win. “There were times where we were in funks, we were still winning games, but to be in a funk like this and really not have things go your way at all, it’s tricky to deal with.“We’re positive — we have to be — but at some point you’re like: You know what? This sucks and this is not fun, and we’ve got to figure out a way to change it.”Ian Happ homered in both wins, his two-run shot in the eighth Thursday giving the Cubs a welcome 5-2 cushion. They added another run in the inning when Seiya Suzuki scored on a passed ball on ball four to Miguel Amaya.Pete Crow-Armstrong then enlivened the dugout in the ninth with a nifty headfirst slide and swim move to avoid the tag as the Pirates played the infield in. He was initially ruled out, but the call was overturned on manager Craig Counsell’s challenge. Crow-Armstrong was so confident he was safe, he pantomimed high-fives to his teammates to celebrate the run as he walked through the dugout. The vibes certainly have shifted for the Cubs in the last 48 hours.“It’s been a grind, I don’t think there’s any other way to put it,” Kelly said. “To have this many guys scuffling at the same time makes for some tense moments. And everybody feels the pressure right now. At-bats feel like they’re more important than the next, and when we’re really good we understand that this is a collective group.“This lineup isn’t built around two guys, and when we’re rolling, everybody’s contributing and everybody’s doing a little piece of it. And when you’re struggling, it feels like nobody is. So just getting the guys back to, hey, this whole group is what makes this lineup good. It’s not one particular guy that has to carry us or has to go off. Everybody understands that it’s easier said than done.”The two wins don’t erase the offensive issues the Cubs have experienced lately. Although they still aren’t fully out of their offensive funk, Counsell believes Alex Bregman is on the verge of delivering more power production.Getting Suzuki going could be the X-factor. He drove in two runs Thursday after tallying only one RBI in his previous 17 games. During that span, Suzuki hit .129 with a .194 on-base percentage and .145 slugging percentage. He has just five extra-base hits in May.Suzuki and the Cubs know more is needed from the slugger.“We need Seiya, and we know when he gets going well how much damage there is,” Counsell said. “So he needs some positive things to happen, and tonight was a night he got some positive things.”In assessing his struggles this month, Suzuki believes he has been tense at the plate with runners in scoring position because he hasn’t been coming through in those spots. He’s focusing on trying to stay calm when he gets RISP chances and trusting the work he has put in and his communication with the hitting coaches.“I think today I was able to stay calm,” Suzuki said through interpreter Edwin Stanberry. “It was tough, the moments where in batting practice I was trying to come up with creative ways to try to figure out how to get that big hit, staying tenacious. And the past few weeks, I haven’t been performing well, but today I’m glad I got that hit off of a really good pitcher.”If working through these stressful stretches at the plate with the Cubs hitting coaches has taught Suzuki anything, it’s that a hitting coach job doesn’t await him in his post-playing future.“I might go bald,” Suzuki said with a big grin.
