The San Antonio Spurs handled the defending NBA champions 118-91 to force Game 7.The MVP played 28 minutes but went just 6-of-18 on field goals and 0-for-5 on 3-point shots. The guard scored 32 points the game prior."I was pretty encouraged last game at the cracks we were able to get him," Daigneault said. "And obviously, I don't think we were able to do that as well tonight. I'd never discredit the defense and the opponent. There's always that. There are things I think we can do better."Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 31.1 points per game in the regular season en route to his second straight Most Valuable Player award. He had a career-high 55 points early on in an October double-overtime matchup where the Thunder beat the Indiana Pacers 141-135, in a rematch of last year's Finals. The four-time All-Star has cooled off a bit in the playoffs, though. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho was the worst Notre Dame Football coach of all-time?Portrait of Notre Dame Coach Joe Kuharich Notre Dame Football is currently blessed. The Fighting Irish are under the leadership of Marcus Freeman, and they are on the brink of being a national power like something we haven’t seen since Lou Holtz paced the sidelines at Notre Dame. It’s easy to view Freeman as someone who is cut from the same cloth as Holtz because the program is on the same type of upward trajectory as what Holtz brought to South Bend in 1986.It’s also easy to hate on a coach like Brian Kelly, but he put Notre Dame back on the map as a program that can compete for national championships — even if he failed at doing so. He’s kind of a terrible person too, but without him, the Irish wouldn’t be where they are right now. So… you can hate BK all you want, but he’s not the worst head coach in Notre Dame history — but who is? Who is the worst head coach in Notre Dame Football history? Do we base our answer on winning percentage alone? Do we go with a recency bias? Was there some unforgivable acts sone under the service of the head coach? Who is it?Notre Dame isn’t just blessed with its current leader, but it has a history of great head coaches like no other program. Knute Rockne, Frank Leahy, Ara Parsegian, and Lou Holtz form a Mount Rushmore with all of Notre Dame’s national championships. Still… the Irish have had a few bad ones — it’s okay to call it out.Let us know in the comments below who you believe is the worst head coach in Notre Dame Football history, and why you feel that way.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAces let one slip away due to second half struggles against WingsMay 28, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Wings forward Jessica Shepard (32) looks to move the ball past Las Vegas Aces guard Chennedy Carter (23) during the second half at College Park CenterAfter a relatively strong strong to the season for the Las Vegas Aces, the defending champions now find themselves in their first extended battle against adversity. On Thursday, the Aces lost control against the Dallas Wings, who dominated the second half en route to a 95-87 victory.“”I think our defense sucked,” said Hammon in blunt fashion. “[Defense] did a nice job in the first quarter, and then you just have slippage, and that slippage compounds, and you don’t have enough timeouts to even stop the bleeding.”Half the battleThe Aces seemed to be in fine shape at the end of the first half, sporting an eight point lead at the end of 20 minutes. It would all go south for them in the second half, however. The Wings managed to get to their game and never look back, putting up 50 points in the last 20 minutes to tie the game after the third period and jet out to a lead they would never relinquish in the fourth. It is just the latest in what has been a concerning stretch for the Aces defense, which has been susceptible to allowing momentum shifts to snowball out of control.“First half, we were the more physical team, then the second half, we just kind of didn’t give it our all,” said A’ja Wilson.Commander ShepardWhile the dynamic duo of Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd would do their damage, it was Jessica Shepard that would sink any chance of the Aces getting a victory to start the road trip.Shepard was far and away the best player on the court throughout the entire game, posting a triple-double against the Aces. The former Minnesota Lynx forward would post a dominant 20 rebounds in the contest, as well as 22 points and 10 assists. Shepard was a vital part of the Wings’ comeback, as the Aces simply had no answers for how to stop her as she became the first player in WNBA history to cross both the 20-point and 20-rebound thresholds.“Jessica can do it all,” commented Jackie Young, who was teammates with Shepard at the University of Notre Dame. “I think just, keeping that in mind while defending her, just knowing that’s she trying to quarterback the game. She gets all the hustle plays, gets all the 50/50 balls, rebounds, all that. It’s showing up on the stat sheet.”Trouble comingDo not be surprised if Hammon gets a call from the WNBA following her heated presser after the game. While Hammon did admit that the Aces’ defense was nowhere near where it had to be in the second half, the Aces head coach also took the time to air her grievances towards the officiating crew. Through the early part of the season, the Aces have only averaged 18.3 free throw attempts per game, tied with Minnesota at the bottom of the league. Against the Wings, Las Vegas only received 12 opportunities at the charity stripe while Dallas received 22.“A’ja Wilson shoots one free throw, Chennedy Carter zero, Jackie Young zero. I’m f—ing tired of that b——t. I’m not saying (the Dallas Wings) didn’t earn their 22 down there, but when Awak Kuier shoots more free throws than A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young and Chennedy Carter, all combined, that’s a problem,” Hammon said.“And give me my fine,” Hammon mentioned before abruptly ending the presser. With the Aces losing back-to-back games for the first time since last July, they will be looking to get back in the win column against the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBayern Munich News: Dušan Vlahović back on FC Bayern’s radar?; João Palhinha willing to take pay cut?; and MORE!TURIN, ITALY - MAY 24: Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus celebrates his goal during the Serie A match between Torino FC and Juventus FC at Stadio Olimpico di Torino on May 24, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Image Photo Agency/Getty Images) | Getty Images Bayern talking to Vlahović again? (ESPN)Just a day after Bayern Munich missed out on versatile attacker Anthony Gordon, the German power was — again — linked to Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović.It is very hard to discern what is true and what is not regarding Bayern Munich’s alleged interest in Vlahović, but this is what the latest report has to say: Bayern Munich have made contact regarding a move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, per Tuttosport. The Bundesliga champions reportedly see the 26-year-old as a potential back-up option to starter Harry Kane, but could face competition from Newcastle United and Napoli. Vlahovic is set to become a free agent next month and has yet to agree a new contract with the Bianconeri. He scored seven goals in 19 Serie A matches last season, with two coming in Sunday’s 2-2 draw league closer with Torino.Vlahović’s role at Bayern Munich would be to back up Harry Kane — not exactly a spot where a lot of minutes are available. Would it be great to have him? Yes. Would it be awesome to get him on a free transfer? Hell yeah! However, it would be a very odd move for a striker in his prime to make in this market. Palhinha willing to take pay cut for Sporting move (Goal)João Palhinha is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to make a deal work between Bayern Munich and Sporting CP: Joao Palhinha is reportedly ready to make a significant financial sacrifice to push through a return to Sporting CP this summer. After helping Tottenham to secure Premier League survival during a challenging loan season, the Bayern Munich midfielder has clarified his priorities as he looks to head back to the club where he first made his name.According to A Bola, the return of the Portugal international is a specific request from the club’s leadership and coach Rui Borges. While the move is considered difficult due to the player’s market value, the emotional pull of Sporting and the desire to be closer to his family in Portugal have made the midfielder push for the deal. To facilitate the move, Palhinha is said to be willing to reduce his current salary to the absolute limit. The main obstacle in the deal remains Palhinha’s substantial earnings. Currently contracted to Bayern Munich until June 2028, the midfielder commands a gross annual salary in the region of €9 million. These figures are generally considered impossible for any Portuguese club to match, which is why the player’s willingness to take a pay cut is viewed as a vital gesture.Let’s not waste any time on this. If Sporting CP is game and the price for a fee is right, get it done!United bails on Anderson pursuit (ESPN)As Manchester City has pulled ahead in the race for Nottingham Forest midfielder and England international Elliot Anderson, Manchester United has pulled out: Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to The Mirror. Anderson, 23, would reportedly prefer to join Manchester City, while the Red Devils don’t want to meet his £100 million valuation. City are now optimistic of getting a deal over the line to sign the England international ahead of their rivals, but United have made progress elsewhere over a deal with Atalanta for midfielder Éderson.Nagelsmann unsure where Undav fits, but admires his scoring ability (@iMiaSanMia)German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann does not know if VfB Stuttgart attacker Deniz Undav is best as a No. 9 or a No. 10, but does not really care where Undav plays — just as long as he scores. “The good thing is, he can play as a number nine and as a number ten. He himself can’t say what his best position is. What’s good is his ability to score goals and be unpredictable. He also uses his body well and can provide assists. I’m not going to commit to where he’ll play. He can do well in both positions,” Nagelsmann said. Juve to make Salah play? (ESPN)Mo Salah is set to leave Liverpool and his future is wide open, but Juventus would like to give the Egyptian star a new home: Juventus are interested in signing Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah on a free transfer, according to La Repubblica. Juve boss Luciano Spalletti is reportedly keen to add the 33-year-old to his squad, despite failing to reach the Champions League, but the Egypt international would need to accept a lower salary than what he could be offered from a team in Saudi Arabia. Salah, who previously played in Italy with Roma, is expected to make a decision on his future after the World Cup.It seems like Saudi Arabia is going to be the move, but Juve is a great option and Salah would likely rip up MLS. LFC want to make quick move for Diomande (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)Liverpool wants to act quickly on RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande in hopes of preventing Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City from getting too involved: 🚨⚡️Behind the scenes, Liverpool are pushing for a quick agreement with Yan Diomande. 19 y/o gem remains one of their top targets.Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are closely monitoring the situation and have already held talks. There is still no agreement with any club. #LFC #MCFCRB Leipzig still want to extend his contract and improve his salary. 🇨🇮Per The Mirror (via ESPN), RB Leipzig is going to do everything it can to keep Diomande: RB Leipzig are ready to resist all offers to sign winger Yan Diomande amid interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, reports The Mirror. Leipzig have no interest in parting ways with the 19-year-old after they qualified for next season’s Champions League, despite talk of a €100 million fee. PSG are looking to sign the 19-year-old as a potential replacement for Bradley Barcola, but now Liverpool and Arsenal could face difficulty in landing the France international if Diomande stays put.Werder Bremen gets USYNT defender (The Athletic’s Tom Bogert)Werder Bremen is sipping its toes back into the water of the United States and has inked USYNT defender Ramiz Hamouda: If you are looking for more Bayern Munich and German national team coverage, check out the latest episodes of Bavarian Podcast Works, which you can get on Acast, Spotify, Apple, or any leading podcast distributor… Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Comment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreate community posts0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM’A Lot Of Nonsense’ — NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal Defends Angel Reese Against Dream Star’s Critics‘A Lot Of Nonsense’ - NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal Defends Angel Reese Against Dream Star’s CriticsAngel Reese has come a long way from starring at LSU to becoming the WNBA’s preeminent rebounder. The 6-foot-3 forward leads the league with 10.8 rebounds per game while averaging 12.3 points for the Atlanta Dream.Like many players, the 2024 lottery pick has flaws in her game that have drawn criticism over the years, particularly her at-rim finishing ability. However, some have singled out Reese’s on-court struggles simply to generate clicks from WNBA fans. The constant trolling and bullying directed at the Dream star do not sit well with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who urged critics to stop.Shaquille O’Neal Slams Critics Mocking Angel Reese’s Game for Internet ClicksO’Neal, a four-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer, appeared on “The Rich Eisen Show,” where he discussed the WNBA, particularly his affiliation with Reese and Washington Mystics rookie Lauren Betts.Reese and Betts are signed with Reebok, a shoe company O’Neal has enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership with since his early days in the NBA. The 2000 MVP told guest host Suzy Shuster he is proud of Reese and Betts for standing out on their respective squads. He added that they are “having fun” and are “determined to do great things” in the league. But when he was asked about his thoughts on the treatment both players receive on social media, he changed his tone and came to both players’ defense.“I wish I could punch some of these guys in the face that just pick on my Angel and pick on my Lauren, but I have to be professional,” O’Neal said.“It’s just a lot of nonsense, and just a lot of embarrassing, a lot of bullying sometimes. And guys bullying (other) guys is fine, but I can’t let you just bully females, just so you can get likes.”MORE:‘Get Some Therapy’ — WNBA World Enraged As Cari Champion Slams Officials’ ‘Special Treatment’ Favoring Caitlin ClarkO’Neal stepped up his tirade against the critics who tried to highlight Reese’s on-court flaws on social media to bait Internet clicks. He labeled them “amateurs” who take advantage of the media to target an individual and make an issue of their shortcomings on social media.“A lot of guys, when they get off air, they want to go to their page. So, what do they do to go to their page? They’ll take a hot topic and promote it on their page to get their followers up,” O’Neal said.O’Neal and Reese are both products of LSU’s collegiate basketball program and have shone in the professional ranks. The NBA icon continues to play the role of Reese’s vocal defender while serving as an invaluable mentor and business partner.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

(Photo by Sam Hodde/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images The Astros best starter this season has been a guy not deemed good enough to make the Opening Day roster.Spencer Arrighetti (W, 7-1) picked up his 7th win in 8 starts with another terrific performance, limiting the Texas Rangers (25-31) to one run over 6 innings as the Houston Astros (26-32) took 3 of 4 games in Arlington with a 5-1 victory at Globe Life Field.Arrighetti allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6. His lone blemish was a solo HR allowed to Josh Jung. Houston gave Arrighetti all the run support he would need before he even took the mound.Jeremy Pena led off the game with a HR, his 2nd of the season, off Rangers SP Nathan Eovaldi (L, 5-6). Eovaldi then walked Yordan Alvarez before surrendering a 2-run HR to Isaac Paredes. Houston led 3-0 going into the bottom of the first. The 3 runs in the first off Eovaldi by Houston was more runs than they had scored off him in his last 4 starts against them (2 runs in 27.1 IP).After Jung homered in the bottom of the 2nd, the Astros answered right back in the top of the third.Paredes drew a 2-out walk, then took second on a wild pitch. Taylor Trammell then ripped an RBI double, scoring Paredes to make it a 4-1 lead. Cam Smith then drove in Trammell with a single to center to make it a 5-1 game. Eovaldi was charged with 5 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 HR allowed in 7 innings. He struck out 6.Houston used 4 relievers to get the final 9 outs, with Bryan Abreu working a 1-2-3 9th with a pair of strikeouts. Pearson, Okert, De Los Santos and Abreu allowed only 1 hit and 2 walks in 3 innings, while striking out 5 as the bullpen got the job done again for Houston. Houston has now won 9 of its last 13 games, and only allowed 13 total runs in those 9 wins. They went 7-3 on the road trip, and have won consecutive series for the first time this season. Houston took 3 of 4 from the Rangers in this series, and now has a 5-2 edge in the Silver Boot Series. The Astros will now come back to Daikin Park and open a 3-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers.Pitching probables:Fri: RHP Kai-Wei Teng vs. RHP Coleman Crow (Fri, 7:10 pm)Sat: RHP Peter Lambert vs. RHP Brandon Sproat (Sat, 3:10 pm)Sun: RHP Tatsuya Imai vs. RHP Jacob Misiorowski (Sun, 1:10 pm)0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBurton, Williams lead the way as Valkyries hold off Clark, Fever in 90-88 winSAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Veronica Burton had 25 points and six rebounds, Gabby Williams added 19 points, six rebounds and six assists, and the Golden State Valkyries beat Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 90-88 on Thursday night.Clark's 3-pointer with 3:55 to play pulled Indiana to 81-80 and Aliyah Boston put the Fever ahead with a jumper the next time down. But Clark turned the ball over with 1:32 left and her team trailing by three then again with 1:06 to go before missing a 3 with 40 seconds remaining.Indiana had another chance with 24.8 seconds left and Sophie Cunningham scored on an uncontested layup. Williams missed the first of two free throws on the other end. Boston missed a turnaround jumper as the final buzzer sounded — sending the celebratory sellout home crowd into a frenzy.Clark finished with 16 points, six assists and four rebounds but struggled to find a shooting groove — she was 3 for 12 — at Chase Center again as Indiana had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Fever missed their initial eight 3-point attempts and were 3 of 12 at halftime. Janelle Salaun came off the bench to contribute 19 points and seven rebounds for Golden State. This was another physical game after a testy matchup won 90-82 by the Fever exactly a week earlier at Indiana that became heated between Clark and Tiffany Hayes when Clark signaled her hand at the Golden State guard and they exchanged words. Clark said before the rematch that she had moved on already. The fans at Chase Center took every opportunity to show their displeasure with Clark, booing the star guard every time she touched the ball. Clark, who attended the San Francisco Giants' game Wednesday at nearby Oracle Park, was averaging 23.8 points per game. Her last game on the Valkyries' home floor was forgettable. Clark shot just 3 for 14 at Chase Center in an 88-77 loss last June — going 0 for 7 on 3s and missing her initial six shots before a layup at the 4:12 mark of the second quarter.Up nextFever: Visit the Portland Fire on Saturday night.Valkyries: Host the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday.___AP WNBA: https://apnews.com/hub/wnba-basketball0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDoes Jerrod Calhoun arrival change outlook on Bob Huggins? | WilliamsAsk columnist Jason Williams anything − sports or non-sports – and he’ll pick some of your questions and comments from his inbox and respond on Cincinnati.com. Email: jwilliams@enquirer.comSUBJECT: About-face on former Cincinnati Bearcats basketball coach Bob Huggins?MESSAGE: So now that a Huggins-adjacent figure is back on the sidelines at UC, you cannot quickly enough attempt to make public amends for his previous forceful and unapologetic denouncement of (Huggins’) decades of “abhorrent behavior,” eh? Because to stand on the principles you so proudly espoused less than three years ago might jeopardize your proximity to – and acceptance from – the freshly instated and fiercely loyal pro-Huggins crowd now in control at UC.Guess when you once appeared to actually flash (some guts), you didn’t see coming the crazy wrinkle where Huggins' coaching tree might wind its way back to Clifton.Reply: Did my wife put you up to writing this? Because she’s always on me about projecting and turning things into something they aren’t.My viewpoint on Bob Huggins hasn’t changed since his days at the University of Cincinnati. I’ve consistently been critical of him for decades while most of my colleagues in the media have kissed up to him.Let’s get one thing clear: I don’t write things I don’t believe. I am allowed to evolve in my viewpoints, just as you are.The only thing that has changed in how I view Huggins: I can now accept that UC fans appreciate what he did for Bearcats basketball. He was a winner, and we’ve not had many of those around here. Now that Huggins’ coaching career is over, I can accept that fans embrace his on-court accomplishments at UC and the special relationships he’s maintained with some of his former players. Is there something wrong with that? Because there’d be something wrong with me, as both a person and journalist, if I didn’t at least change my outlook on that. No principles have been compromised. Huggins still deserves every bit of criticism for his off-the-court issues and for how he bullied a lot of people during his career.I’m not advocating for UC to officially hire Huggins as a fundraiser or as a coaching consultant. That’s not going to happen, anyway. As for UC hiring a member of Huggins’ “coaching tree,” it’s irrelevant to my commentary on the former coach. Jerrod Calhoun is his own guy. He and Huggins would tell you that. The journalist-newsmaker relationship is built on its own merits. That’s not unlike any other professional relationship. Yes, there are journalists who write things – or intentionally don’t write things – to curry favor with sources and newsmakers. I’m not one of those journalists.I’ve criticized many politicians and sport figures over the years. I’ve praised many of them, too. Regardless, most of them have still talked to me. Most public-facing, powerful figures understand criticism comes with the job. Sometimes, it takes time for the relationship to get fixed, but developing trusted relationships is a big part of the job. Aren’t trusted relationships a key to any job, though? Many people who are close to Huggins have always talked to me and still do. The only person who I can recall who wouldn’t talk to me after I started being critical of him was his close friend Chuck Machock, the late UC radio analyst. And that most likely was because I torched him – and deservedly so – in my report for the Cincinnati Post after Machock embarrassed the university when he got ejected from that 2003 NCAA Tournament game in Utah. Chuck took that and my criticism of Huggins personal, and I now understood because of how passionate he was about Huggins, UC basketball and his role on radio.Anyway, I look forward to writing about the Calhoun era and hope Huggins-level success is on the horizon for UC basketball. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: About-face on basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Huggins? | Williams0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The blockbuster Western Conference Finals continues to deliver as the San Antonio Spurs have forced a Game 7 against the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. It has been a fun series to watch for basketball fans, and it is exciting to see, as both teams seem hell-bent on proving each other wrong.Heading into the series, the Thunder were the favorites, especially since they are the defending champs. However, the Spurs have continued to prove the doubters wrong. Before the season started, no one expected them to be title contenders, but it seems they are in a good position to do so now.Stephon Castle gets candid about his belief in his team being better than the ThunderBefore the season started, the Thunder were unanimous best team in the league. They were the defending champions with a young core that was hungry to turn the team into a dynasty. That has been the truth for the most part, as they have been dominant. However, the Spurs have turned that narrative on its head because it seems Victor Wembanyama and his team are well ahead of schedule. They are an even younger team than the Thunder, but they are matching them blow for blow in the Western Conference Finals.MORE: The complete box score from Game 6 of the 2026 Western Conference FinalsAs one of the star players of the Spurs, second-year guard Stephon Castle has been quite vocal throughout the series. He has said that the referees are not giving enough leeway to the Spurs that the Thunder are being given, and now, he has said that the Spurs are the better team. "As a group, I think we all want this. It's right there in front of us. We feel collectively that we're better than this team. We didn't want to let our fans down on our home court either, so coming out here with a chance of going back to OKC and play Game 7, that was enough motivation," Castle said to the NBA on NBC crew after the huge Game 6 win. Those are some bold statements to make, especially for such a young team like the Spurs. However, the Spurs have backed up a lot of their talk with their success this season. Their season might end on Saturday, but it seems the Spurs will always have the confidence in them against any opponent.More NBA news:Mark Daigneault provides the context behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's WCF strugglesThe Thunder have been called for more fouls than the Spurs in the 2026 WCFVictor Wembanyama leads the Spurs to a dominant victory in Game 6 against the ThunderThe Spurs vs Thunder WCF has helped the 2026 Playoffs tie the record for most Game 7sWe now know what Victor Wembanyama whispered to Mason Plumlee in a controversial clip0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

After his journey, he spoke about what the experience taught him.“It was a great experience,” Wembanyama told The Shop last year. “My goal going there was putting my body through things that it’s not used to doing and allowing my range of movement and strength. This was probably as very different as possible from what I’m used to doing.”This period of time for Wembanyama was intentional. While he shared that it was to improve a different set of strength, he was able to put these techniques to work by practicing, “Kung fu. Everyday. It was like a vegan temple, monastery. … I was isolated.”Game 6 was a must-win for the Spurs given that they were down 3-2 in the series. As Wembanyama reflected on his spiritual journey, it makes sense that he chose this outfit for this game. Wembanyama did not let this honor to the Shaolin temple go to waste as he put his practice into real-time, scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals to lead the Spurs' 118-91 victory tonight (May 29). SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAfter a dominant Game 6, Victor Wembanyama's winner-take-all moment has arrivedSAN ANTONIO — Some time before the Spurs’ 118-91 Game 6 win Thursday night, a gathering of excited nuns, dressed uniformly with white habits and team gear, scurried through the bowels of Frost Bank Center. The Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco had made the trek before, offering their prayers, positive energy and good luck for their beloved home team. And Victor Wembanyama, while not known to be a practicing Catholic — the 7-foot-4 center has studied and shown an appreciation for Buddhism — the similarities between the two walks of life are closer than one would suggest. Discipline. Mental fortitude. Compassion. Humility. Necessary ingredients in both. And more importantly, for Wembanyama, essential components of emerging from a playoff elimination game — the first of his young career — unscathed. Despite committing their lives to a different profession, the soft-spoken Salesian Sisters made their presence felt in a crowd of 20,000, not by the volume of their voices, but by the absence of noise altogether. When Wembanyama drilled his second deep triple 90 seconds into the game — prompting a Mark Daigneault emergency timeout — he simply walked back toward the bench without saying a word, despite teammate Keldon Johnson screaming at the top of his lungs. And when Wembanyama had only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander standing between him and the basket, with a golden opportunity to throw down a thunderous slam, the Frenchman opted for the softest touch possible on a floater. The message had already been sent. A mastery of the perimeter and the paint. Wembanyama finished with a game-high 28 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks in 28 minutes, subbing out with nine minutes to go and nodding his head in approval of a task carried out to completion. A season defined by his continued ascension within the ranks of his peers while discovering himself on a deeper level isn’t quite ready to end. “I think we were consistent,” Wembanyama said after the Spurs evened the Western Conference finals at three games apiece. “We did what we needed to do. Trusted the game. Trusted the basketball gods.”The seventh and final game of what has been a brilliant, drama-filled series has no more chess moves to make, no additional levers to pull. Game 7 will be the 12th time these two teams have seen each other this season — familiarity breeds regularity. But even with that, the Spurs have an unspoken advantage they may be able to tap into. And if Oklahoma City’s last two trips to San Antonio weren’t enough of a reminder of the defensive fortitude that runs through Alamo City, Gilgeous-Alexander’s struggles against the Spurs’ setup should serve as enough of a warning. The reigning MVP finished with just 15 points on 18 shots in Game 6 (no other Thunder teammate scored more). Over the last four games, Gilgeous-Alexander has missed 44 of his 69 shot attempts, with San Antonio’s individual defenders showing an understanding how to affect the Canadian in a variety of ways. To take it a step further, the Spurs have largely been able to affect SGA’s drives and neutralize the gravity he feasted on for months, all while limiting his trips to the free-throw line. Four of the six games thus far have seen Gilgeous-Alexander attempt single-digit shots from the charity stripe. Of course, there’s a glaring health element that cannot be understated. Thunder All-NBA guard Jalen Willams returned from a nagging hamstring injury but appeared sluggish, out of rhythm and unable to impact the game. Key reserve Ajay Mitchell — who served as Williams’ understudy — is also missing in action, depriving Oklahoma City of a quality ball-handler, scorer and floor spacer. In contrast, Lu Dort, who has remained healthy and is the Thunder’s strongest pound-for-pound defender, has shot just 18.2% from deep in this series. But Wembanyama’s gradual mastery of one of the greatest basketball teams in recent history has been the underlying theme of a matchup of this magnitude. The Thunder have thrown a plethora of looks his way — putting him in multiple ball screens, toggling wings and bigs on him, upping the physicality levels and attempting to flat-out deny him in some instances. With every passing possession and game, Wembanyama has adapted to what he’s seeing on the floor and churned out new results like artificial intelligence. Screener. Play initiator. Play finisher. Rebounder. First and last line of defense. Whatever the situation has called for, Wembanyama has answered the call. “His will and intent on leaving his imprints on the game,” head coach Mitch Johnson said. “His desire to meet the moment. He’s not always perfect and we gotta help him at times obviously, he’s 22 years old. But his passion and desire for being right where he is and at the forefront of it all, and to take the responsibility, role and burden of what he does, I don’t know what else to say. He’s comfortable with that regardless of the outcome. Not waiting to be perfect or knowing what to do all the time, but to attack the moment, have the right approach and live with the results.”Outside of Wembanyama, a heap of praise should be shared elsewhere. Dylan Harper, the rookie making waves for his fearless forays into the restricted area, finished with 18 points on tidy 6-for-9 shooting off the bench, offering a positive contrast to veteran De’Aaron Fox’s struggles. Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie, San Antonio’s most prolific floor spacers, recorded two blocks apiece. The sheer value in shooters being able to impact the game at the other end is understated in today’s game, but the Spurs’ length allows Johnson to experiment. Oklahoma City scored just 73.9 points per 100 half-court possessions and converted 48% of shots at the rim, the 3rd and 4th percentile of playoff performances. Johnson was also able to generate positive results in the minutes Wembanyama wasn’t on the floor, with their most-used five-man pairing a +6 in that span.Game 7 will be a test of will. A battle of wits. The Thunder, the current holders of the Larry O’Brien Trophy, will be favored (currently by -4.5 points) in their home building in front of one of the loudest, craziest fanbases in basketball. A roster full of champions desperate to keep their reign of terror alive won’t need additional motivation against a team still building experience. But Wembanyama, as he’s done since he stepped foot in the league, will meet the moment. Game 5 was marred by Wembanyama declining to speak to the media. On Thursday night, his game did the talking. Win or go home.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTracy McGrady urges Victor Wembanyama to keep attacking the paint to dominate the ThunderTracy McGrady urges Victor Wembanyama to keep attacking the paint to dominate the Thunder originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.In Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, the San Antonio Spurs were dominant. The main reason behind that performance was Victor Wembanyama and his aggression early in the game. He was taking it to the Oklahoma City Thunder, and they had no answer for the French giant. After the Game 5 loss in OKC, it was clear that head coach Mitch Johnson and the rest of the Spurs wanted Wemby to respond. As the superstar and leader, he did just that, as he was superb from the get-go. Now, he will need to do that again in Game 7 if they want a shot at reaching the NBA Finals.Tracy McGrady wants Victor Wembanyama to keep attacking to help lead the Spurs to winsAs the superstar for the Spurs, Wembanyama always has a target on his back. Considering he is also 7'5", he is easy to spot on the court. Despite the game plans against him, it is nearly impossible to stop him. The Thunder have managed to slow him down at times in the series, but they can never fully stop him. That is why people like Tracy McGrady want Wemby to keep being aggressive, because he has all the tools in his arsenal to be dominant. Of course, fatigue and physicality are factors, but in a do-or-die Game 7, everything should be on the table.MORE: Victor Wembanyama's dominant performance helped the Spurs force a Game 7McGrady brings up a valid point because the Spurs have been struggling if Wemby is not aggressive enough. However, T-Mac also wants Wemby to recognize that attacking the paint is much better to start with rather than hoisting up threes in the hopes of getting more points quicker."I think Wemby should start inside because if you start out here and that shot is not falling, it's an avalanche going the other way... It's gotta be a slow pace with Wemby inside controlling that, getting that tempo and establishing that inside, and then he can step out," McGrady said about Wembanyama on the NBC broadcast panel. As long as Wemby is aggressive, it will be difficult to beat the Spurs. They have the optimal supporting cast around him, and they can only get better when Wembanyama is commanding everyone's attention. With all eyes on him, the rest of the team has more opportunities. Despite that, it might be unstoppable an aggressive Wemby, and the Thunder must watch out in Game 7.More NBA news:Mark Daigneault explains the reason behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's WCF strugglesHow the Thunder have more fouls called on them than the Spurs in the WCFStephon Castle firmly believes the Spurs are the better team in the WCFThe Spurs cruised to the 27-point victory in Game 6 against the ThunderRichard Jefferson speaks against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's critics0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNo. 6 Texas hosts Austin Regional after last year’s disappointmentHOOVER, AL - MAY 22: Pitcher Luke Harrison #53 of the Texas Longhorns winds up for a pitch during the SEC Baseball Tournament Quarterfinals game between Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks on May 22, 2026, at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama.(Photo by David Buono/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Last year, an impressive debut season for head coach Jim Schlossnagle with the Texas Longhorns came crashing down in the Austin Regional when the No. 2 overall seed fell to the UTSA Roadrunners after the Longhorns blew a 6-1 lead on Saturday before falling behind 7-0 on Sunday and getting eliminated.Behind a second straight 40-win season, Texas is hosting an Austin Regional again this year looking for redemption against a field that includes UC Santa Barbara, Tarleton State, and Holy Cross. For Schlossnagle, last year’s disappointment hasn’t been a point of emphasis this week.“I haven’t instilled the message, maybe the veteran players have,” Schlossnagle said on Monday. “In today’s college athletics, you have so much turnover on your team. We have a lot of guys back from that team last year, but there’s still probably more new players than there is returning players, so that’s where you lean on your leadership, the guys that were on last year’s team to just make sure anything we feel like we could have done better last year, we do it this year.”Mistakes in the field and an inability to execute on the mound contributed to UTSA’s Saturday comeback before the lack of pitching depth was exposed for Texas on Sunday despite winning on Friday with three relievers. The Horns haven’t been able to find a fourth starter this season and senior right-hander Ruger Riojas has been dealing with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder, but the overall depth is better and the infield defense has been a team strength to bolster a fielding percentage that ranks 18th nationally, although outfield misadventures have been too frequent. However, the infield will continue to be without junior Ethan Mendoza, who hasn’t played at second base since injuring his shoulder against Tennessee three weeks ago. Since the injury, Mendoza is 2-for-16 (.125) as the designated hitter.Mendoza is one of several Texas players who have benefited from only playing one game in the 13 days prior to Friday’s regional opener against Holy Cross. Junior right fielder Aiden Robbins was sick during the Missouri series and missed the regular-season finale and sophomore shortstop Adrian Rodriguez continues to deal with pain in his surgically-repaired left hand, although he did record three-hit performances against Tennessee and Missouri. On Thursday, Schlossnagle also provided an update on Riojas.“I think he’s in a really, really good place,” Schlossnagle said. “He had a couple side sessions in the last two weeks, one in particular a couple days ago, that was outstanding, and so I anticipate him being at full strength.”The role that Riojas will play is dependent on how the regional unfolds — as the Longhorns head coach pointed out, everything depends on the first game, which redshirt senior left-hander Luke Harrison (6-3, 4.63 ERA) will start. “Other than Luke starting the game, there’s no real plan other than that, other than to have every pitcher available for every game, and certainly the guys who have pitched the best will be the ones that more than likely pitch the most. Can’t script out a weekend when you’re playing great teams, and it’s a postseason — anything can happen,” Schlossnagle said.Harrison is the only Longhorns player with experience in the College World Series after pitching two innings against Texas A&M in Omaha in 2022, giving him an understanding of what it takes to play deep into the postseason.“I think it takes a lot. It requires you to play your best baseball at the right time, and having that experience, I feel like it’s been good to be able to share with the guys — not only what it takes to get there, but also what it takes to win there. And we know that it starts with just doing our job tomorrow, going out there and playing our game,” Harrison said.Friday’s challenge is beating Holy Cross, the winners of the Patriot League Tournament. The Crusaders are making their 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, a history that includes a national championship in 1952 that makes Holy Cross the only team from the northeast to ever win the College World Series. With a sub-.500 record this season, the expectations for Ed Kahovec’s team are much more modest, but if Kahovec decides to start the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Jayden Wywoda, the Crusders could provide a challenge to the Longhorns.Although Holy Cross features minimal pitching depth across its staff, which has a collective ERA of 6.42 as opponents bat .275 against the Crusaders, Wywoda has a 3.76 ERA with five complete games and a save this season. In the conference tournament, he earned MVP honors after throwing 196 pitches over three days, including a 122-pitch complete game in the opener on Monday and a 74-pitch, 4.2-inning save on Wednesday. For the Texas pitching staff, controlling two-time Patriot League Player of the Year CJ Egrie will be key — the New Jersey product is first on the team in batting average (.338), hits (54), on-base percentage (.483), and stolen bases (46). The 46 steals by Egrie rank second nationally as he set the program’s single-season record. Egrie hopes to maintain his momentum from the conference tournament, in which he slashed .474/.643/.895 with a 1.538 OPS, notching a home run, four RBI, three doubles, 10 runs scored, eight walks to one strikeout, and six stolen bases.“CJ has just shattered record after record here at Holy Cross,” Kahovec said. “He played an almost unprecedented conference tournament. Statistically, he was just off the charts. A remarkable effort on his part.”Holy Cross is also used to playing on the road — cold early-season weather in Massachusetts contributed to the Crusaders playing 37 of their 53 games away from Worcester, which includes a 5-3 road record in their last 13 games.Texas could face a bigger challenge on the mound on Saturday if the Longhorns and the Gauchos advance. UC Santa Barbara head coach Andrew Checketts was unwilling to divulge whether his ace Jackson Flora will start on Friday against Tarleton State or on Saturday in a potential matchup against Texas, but saving Flora for Saturday is the most likely scenario. And Flora could certainly alter the course of the regional because he’s one of the best pitchers in the country. A semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, the 6’5, 205-pound right-hander was also named the Big West Pitcher of the Year because he leads the NCAA in ERA (1.05) and wins (11) while ranking second in hits allowed per nine innings (5.1), third in WHIP (0.86), and fifth in strikeouts (124). Opponents bat just .161 against Flora. It’s not just Flora, too — the Gauchos staff is fifth nationally in ERA (3.45), seventh in hits allowed per nine innings (7.5), and seventh in WHIP (1.22), combining their elite pitching with a small-ball approach reminiscent of Augie Garrido’s Longhorns teams in ranking eighth in the country with 55 sacrifice bunts.Given the importance of winning the first two games in the regional, the biggest threat to Texas is facing UC Santa Barbara on Saturday and having Flora shut down the Longhorns lineup, allowing Checketts to use his high-leverage relievers and take control of the Austin Regional.UTSA didn’t quite follow that blueprint last year after having to rally on Saturday, but that crucial second-game victory set the stage for the Roadrunners to win the regional and that’s exactly what the Longhorns need to avoid this year. And while Schlossnagle hasn’t addressed the lessons learned from last year with his team, graduate first baseman Josh Livingston did ask his teammates about that loss after his arrival from Wichita State. The answer, according to Schlossnagle?“Expect it to be hard. It’s going to be hard. There’s going to be moments in the game that we don’t do well. There’s going to be times where we’re playing from behind.”And how the Longhorns respond to that inevitable adversity will define this season’s team, just like the inability to respond to that adversity defined last season’s team.“When you wear this jersey, when you play for Texas, you embrace the expectations that come with it, and making a regional isn’t considered a win for a season here, and everybody here knows that, but it just starts with going out and playing our game one pitch at a time,” Harrison said.“We can’t win a regional tomorrow. We’ve gotta go out there and just play our best baseball tomorrow, and then worry about the next day the next day.”Texas faces Holy Cross to open the regional on Friday with first pitch at noon Central on SEC Network.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrooklyn Nets named 'potential bidder' for Los Angeles Lakers star in free agencyBrooklyn Nets named 'potential bidder' for Los Angeles Lakers star in free agency originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Los Angeles Lakers will have some competition when it comes to re-signing star guard Austin Reaves this summer. Reaves has a $14 million player option for next season that he's widely expected to turn down in favor of a new deal in free agency, and a potential new suitor has emerged. Nets named 'potential bidder' for Austin Reaves According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, the Brooklyn Nets are a team to watch as a "potential bidder" for Reaves over the offseason, due largely to the Nets' ample cap space coupled with their need to add talent to the roster. From Bontemps: One potential bidder to watch this summer, sources said, is the Brooklyn Nets, who will enter the offseason with more than enough salary cap space to accommodate a max-type player.Perhaps the Nets will make the Lakers sweat a little bit with their ability to offer Reaves a big contract, but it seems unlikely that he would leave L.A. for Brooklyn. It also seems unlikely that the Lakers would let that happen, as the organization seems determined to keep Reaves around. "He started his journey here as a Laker and has made it very clear to us that he wants his journey to continue as a Laker," Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said of Reaves earlier this month. "And we feel the same way. We want his odyssey to continue to unfold in the purple and gold. ... Both sides have made it abundantly clear that we want to work something out where he continues his prolific career here."Things could obviously change, but Nets fans probably shouldn't get their hopes up about the possibility of landing Reaves in free agency. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘I had to stop him!’ Ravi Shastri reveals when Virat Kohli nearly lost control in AustraliaVirat Kohli’s fierce competitive streak has long defined his battles against Australia, with the former India captain repeatedly thriving in hostile conditions and high-pressure moments Down Under. Whether it was his recent verbal exchange with Travis Head during an IPL clash or his unforgettable duels during Test series in Australia, Kohli has always embraced confrontation as fuel for his batting. But according to former India head coach Ravi Shastri, there was one moment during the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he actually had to step in and stop Kohli from taking things too far during an intense face-off with Mitchell Johnson.View this post on InstagramA post shared by one8 (@one8world)Speaking alongside Kohli on a podcast for the batter’s lifestyle brand One8, Shastri recalled the heated incident from the Melbourne Test, one of the defining contests of that famous tour.“Never… no once, once. I’ll tell you about it,” said Shastri as Kohli burst into laughter, clearly aware of the story that was about to be revisited.“This was Melbourne, right. And he and Mitch were constantly having a go, because first ball he played he hit him on the head,” Shastri said, recalling Johnson’s aggressive spell against Kohli during that fiery series. The incident came shortly after Johnson had struck Kohli on the helmet early in the innings, adding even more intensity to an already charged rivalry between the two players.“And he’s off to a start at lunchtime. Both going up… as he enters the dressing room, he’s looking at Mitch like this. I had to catch him like this, come here, come here, focus on your batting. I think of those days and sometimes your hair stands,” Shastri added. That Border-Gavaskar series ultimately became one of the most important tours of Kohli’s Test career. While Australia won the series, the tour marked Kohli’s emergence as India’s next long-term leader and one of the most dominant batters in world cricket. The right-hander was unstoppable throughout the series, piling up 692 runs in four Tests at an astonishing average of 86.50. He smashed four centuries in eight innings, including a highest score of 169, announcing himself as a batting force in Australian conditions. The tour also laid the foundation for Kohli’s intense yet iconic relationship with Australian cricket, where the pressure, aggression and crowd hostility often brought out the very best in him.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWest Warwick baseball digs deep to rally past North ProvidenceWEST WARWICK – West Warwick baseball’s title hopes are boiling. The Wizards just found a gritty performance at a windswept McCarthy Field against one of the league’s hottest teams. Thursday night’s finish might have slipped away from the Wizards in years past. But the No. 2 seed in Division II play has nearly ended its championship drought in each of the last three seasons. The all-too-close losses have only built this senior class as it heads to the Pod 2 Championship after a 6-4 victory over No. 3 North Providence in the Winners’ Final. The Wizards await the winner of North Providence and Chariho on May 31. First pitch is TBD.It’s the second time in three seasons that West Warwick reached a Pod final as it also finished runner-up in D-III in 2024. Rogers clipped the Wizards, 5-2, in Game 3 of the series at McCarthy Field. The Wizards were promoted to D-II last season after the championship loss that would’ve netted the program their first title since 2002. The program followed with a 14-7 season, which saw the Wizards win two playoff games before getting bounced in the double-elimination quarterfinals.“The last three years, we’ve come close, and we come back knowing that we have to fight,” said Joe Riviera, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored. “Knowing that if we keep fighting, we can make it far, and that’s what we’re doing this year.”North Providence, which ended the season winning eight of its last nine games, jumped on West Warwick early with a double and consecutive errors by the hosts. The 2-0 lead didn’t unravel West Warwick; it tightened its defense and got to work in the second frame.Mason Hunt stranded two in scoring position in the top half, and then West Warwick took advantage of a North Providence error to even the game. A dropped third out at third base turned into an RBI double by Charles Brown, who then scored on another error.“It feels great – I can always trust my team,” said Hunt, who secured the win with four innings pitched. “The defense is great. I didn’t have my best stuff today, but I can just trust my defense and get through the win.“We just stayed together and didn’t lose our composure. We just had to get some hits and get on the board.”The Wizards plated three more runs in the third inning after consecutive walks from Riviera and Anthony Burt started the sequence. Nick Andruchow sent both home on a triple to center and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunt. West Warwick, despite getting outhit 12-5, added an insurance run in the sixth as Jair Blanco tripled to center and scored on a ground out by Brown.“Playing together is the biggest part of our game,” Andruchow said. “Last year we had some individual [talent] and we weren’t really playing together. I feel like that’s why we got bounced early, but this year we have a really good team atmosphere, and I think we can go all the way.”Freshman Michael Sabetta tossed three innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on five hits with two walks. The righty stranded runners on first and second with a lineout to left field to finish off the Cougars.“We’re a big team,” Riviera said. “West Warwick baseball is a family. We come here locked in and do our jobs for each and every one of us and whoever’s pitching, we got their back.” This article originally appeared on The Providence Journal: West Warwick-North Providence playoff baseball score May 28, 20260 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEli Junior Kroupi: Bournemouth confirm their stance as United lie in waitEli Junior Kroupi: Bournemouth confirm their stance as United lie in wait Manchester United will need attacking reinforcements, considering they will have to compete on four fronts next season.Benjamin Sesko cannot do it all by himself, and while Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are both capable of playing up front, they are far more effective when deployed as a second striker or wide forward.INEOS will be desperate to avoid the same fate that befell Rasmus Hojlund during his time at the club, with the Dane being asked to lead the line single-handedly.Joshua Zirkzee was signed as his backup, but the Dutchman is not prolific in front of goal and is expected to depart in the summer.Eli Junior Kroupi on United’s radarBournemouth’s red-hot sensation Eli Junior Kroupi caught the Red Devils’ eye, with the 19-year-old scoring 13 times in his debut campaign in England. The France Under-21 international scored for the Cherries in both games against United last season, and rumours suggested that the team from the Vitality Stadium was open to a sale for a blockbuster amount. They were even looking at possible replacements on the market, but TalkSport has a different story to tell. With Bournemouth having qualified for the Europa League for the first time in their history, they feel most of their stars will not agitate for a move away, unlike what transpired last summer when they lost multiple key personnel such as Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen.Bournemouth feel Europa League qualification will help avoid losing starsThe report reveals that both the 20-time English league champions and Arsenal are set for disappointment in their hopes of capturing Eli Junior Kroupi.“Bournemouth plan to keep both Brazilian Rayan and fellow teenage sensation Junior Kroupi. Kroupi is being tracked by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.“The south coast side finished the 2025-26 campaign in sixth in the Premier League under Iraola, which was enough to secure a Europa League finish for the first time in the club’s history.“And the form of their star players has caught the eye of a number of the division’s heavy hitters. Bournemouth sold a host of star players last summer but hope qualifying for the Europa League can avoid a repeat.”United need to recruit an experienced ace to provide Sesko backupIt is unlikely United could afford a move for the Bournemouth forward, and an experienced, low-cost arrival makes much more sense.Sesko can learn from the veteran, while his development will not stagnate due to reduced game time. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAva Kuszak walk-off home run lifts Nebraska past Arkansas in WCWS gameMagic is in the air in Oklahoma City — and so is Ava Kuszak's home run, assuming it's not still hovering in space above Devon Park.Nebraska's senior shortstop had the biggest hit of the Cornhuskers' 5-3 win vs. No. 5 Arkansas — the biggest hit of the Women's College World Series, arguably — with a two-run, walk-off homer vs. the Razorbacks. With one fell swing of her bat, she helped Nebraska survive an upset bid that went into the bottom of the 10th inning before Nebraska could finally pull away.REQUIRED READING: Nebraska vs Arkansas softball final score: Ava Kuszak hits walk-off HR for CornhuskersSHE'S MADE FOR THE MOMENT. KUSZIE CALLS GAME. pic.twitter.com/ZPnt9o1BTX— Nebraska Softball (@HuskerSoftball) May 29, 2026Speaking after the game, Kuszak simply said she was thankful to play as a Cornhusker when asked about her emotions in the moment."Honestly, I'm just so grateful to be a Husker," Kuszak said, "and so grateful to be a part of this team. These girls are my best friends, and I would do absolutely anything for them. And I'm so blessed, so grateful."Kuszak's first hit of the day couldn't have come at a better time, either. She had gone 0-for-4 in her previous at-bats, flying out once and grounding out in the remainder of her plate appearances, her most recent in the bottom of the eighth, where the Cornhuskers stranded two runners in their first extra-inning walk-off opportunity."I feel like we were just sitting there saying, 'We're on it. We just gotta keep grinding, find a way to get on,'" Kuszak said. "And that was honestly my plan, just getting on for the girl behind me."With the win, the Cornhuskers get a much-needed day off on Friday, May 29 while Arkansas falls to the losers' bracket to face No. 8 UCLA in an elimination game. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBarcelona come up with plan for Hamza Abdelkarim ahead of 2026-27 seasonDOHA, QATAR - NOVEMBER 4: Hamza Abdelkarim of Egypt celebrates the third goal during the FIFA Under-17 World Cup match between Haiti and Egypt at Aspire Academy on November 4, 2025 in Doha, Qatar. (Photo by Sayed Hassan/Getty Images) | Getty Images Barcelona have reportedly already come up with a plan for striker Hamza Abdelkarim ahead of the 2026-27 season. The Egypt striker is expected to sign for the club permanently after catching the eye following his arrival on loan in the winter.Abdelkarim will have further chances to impress in the summer, as he’s been called up to the Egypt squad for World Cup 2026.Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has already admitted that the youngster “could be an option” for next season and that he’s been keeping an eye on him.According to Diario Sport, Abdelkarim could join up with the first team for pre-season (depending on his involvement at the World Cup and subsequently holidays) but will then link up with Barca Atletic. The Catalans want him to play a key role for Juliano Belletti’s side next season, and the current plan is for him to play up front with highly-rated attacker Oscar Gistau. That does not mean that Abdelkarim will not get any first-team chances. Flick has shown throughout his time at Barca that he’s willing to offer opportunities, and if Abdelkarim shines for Barca Atletic it could open the door to a first-team debut.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLiverpool searching for Alisson contract agreement amid Juventus interestLiverpool searching for Alisson contract agreement amid Juventus interestThe future of Alisson Becker has been cause for concern among Liverpool supporters in recent weeks. The 33-year-old shot stopper has been heavily linked with a move away from the club, with Juventus thought to be the favourites in the race for his signature.Although his season has been affected by injury, Alisson is still the clear number one for the Reds and proved his worth with an incredible save against Brentford on the final day of the season.Even with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson saying their goodbyes to the Anfield faithful following the Brentford game it wasn’t clear if Alisson would be staying or going. Now, a fresh report has shed some light on the situation.Liverpool hoping to agree contract with AlissonRecent reports have speculated that Juve are close to a full agreement with the player, but that club-to-club negotiations have been a sticking point. Now it appears that the Reds have little intention of letting Alisson leave the club and are instead looking to agree a new deal with him.Alisson has concerns over Liverpool’s long-term plans and has reportedly become frustrated with the club’s unwillingness to match the long-term deal Juve have offered. That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk, which revealed that the player is seeking talks with the hierarchy at Anfield in order to work out a resolution.Juventus don’t seem to have been deterred by Liverpool’s reluctance to sell, and the saga could become drawn out if the Reds can’t come to an agreement with Alisson over his future. If Richard Hughes and Co are serious about keeping Alisson around, they may have no choice but to cede to the Brazilian’s demands and a new extended deal could be the outcome.Liverpool will have to enter the market if Alisson is sold, either to replace the 33-year-old or to replace Giorgi Mamardashvili if he is promoted from deputy.Depending on Alisson’s demands, it may be better for the Reds to just stick with a ‘keeper they already know to be world class and give Ali a new deal.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWooster's comeback halted by last seconds goal by Gilmour Academy in Div. II regional final defeatWOOSTER − A run needed to be made. Down 7-4 in the middle of the fourth quarter with around six minutes to play, it was now or never for Wooster, as they trailed Gilmour Academy in Thursday's Division II regional final at home. Wooster answered. In possession, Wooster midfielder Drew Thomas struck an outside shot that went pass the goalkeeper for goal. About three minutes later, Thomas made an outside-inside move he scored a goal on to cut the lead to one. Shortly after, Drew's brother, Jack, scored a transition goal to even it all up, as the Wooster fanbase exploded.Yet, Gilmour Academy would strike with nine seconds left when Gavin LaPolla received the ball on a broken play on the outside and launched it past Wooster goalie Liam Ozar for the game-winner to win it 8-7 and knock out last season's Division II state finalist.More: Off-ball screen game on point for Wooster girls in Div. II lacrosse tourney win over Medina Highland"The defense stayed strong. They just put one in at the end with nine seconds," said Wooster head coach Reid Delaney."Knowing it could be your last game when you step on the field. Giving it your all," said Wooster senior midfielder Brooks Laughlin, on Wooster making that run late in the fourth quarter. "We knew we had to empty the tank at the end. It wasn't looking great. The last goal we had added some kick but it wasn't enough. It's part of the game."As the top-seed in their region going into the regional final, Wooster (14-5) had won 13 of their last 14 games after a 1-3 start and already defeated Gilmour Academy (15-1) 16-14 at home on April 11 this season. That was a pretty high-scoring match. On Thursday, it was the total opposite. "We were missing a few guys last time. It was a fast pace game last time. It was a lot slower today," Laughlin added. The Lancers held a 3-2 lead at halftime, where in the first half a number of penalties were called on both sides. Although throughout, Gilmour Academy used constant body checks and their physicality on defense to push Wooster off their runs towards goal that seemed to throw the Generals off their attacking rhythm. In Wooster's first meeting with Gilmour Academy, the Generals scored 14 goals through the first three quarters. On Thursday, they mustered just four goals through three quarters.Delaney said he didn't anticipate the regional final being as low-scoring as it was this time around."Probably not this low," he said. "Our gameplan was definitely to dominate the time of possession, value the ball and limit their transition goals. Unfortunately, we didn't execute on that.""Yeah, they have a lot of hockey guys on that team," Laughlin said. "They know how to be physical. You just got to keep your cool. It was tough. Catching the ball you don't know if you're going to get hit blindside. You drop it, you have to pick it up and keep going."Delaney gave a lot of credit to his defense who overall had a strong outing, especially in 6-on-6 situations and noted that "five of their eight goals were in transition" citing how sturdy the Generals defended on their half of the field.Yet, he touched on his team playing in two tough tournament games in three days − Wooster defeated Archbishop Hoban 11-9 on Tuesday − and how physically that could have played a role in the defeat."Playing on Tuesday, then coming into today. We played a physical game on Tuesday, then to play another physical game today is just not ideal for the kids bodies," Delaney said. For a Wooster team that has made three straight regional finals, including a Division II state championship game appearance last season, Delaney said this senior class will be missed. Key senior players like Laughlin, goalie Liam Ozar, long-stick midfielder Kellen Smith, defender Max Haas, midfielders Grady Hahn and Drew Thomas, faceoff player Logan Beery and attacker Gavin Giauque make up a core that helped guide Wooster on possibly the most successful three-year run in the program's history."Some of the best kids I've met my entire life. I'll get pretty emotional," Delaney said. "I've coached these kids since seventh grade and in their freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. They've helped turn this program around. They've never had a losing season. Three straight regional finals. The senior class is special and doing it with the skill level they had, humility, kindness and passion they bring. There's not a single negative thing I can say about any of them. I'm just grateful and blessed I could be a part of their lives the last five years.""Coach Delaney has done a great job and I'm gonna miss him when I go to college," said Laughlin. "It hasn't hit me all the way yet. I've been playing with those guys for five years. I've been loving every second with them. I've grown really close to God with a lot of them. It's gonna stink to lose them."jamessimpson@gannett.comTwitter/X: @JamesSimpson IIThis article originally appeared on The Daily Record: Wooster boys lose to Gilmour Academy in lacrosse regional final0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe World’s Most Valuable Soccer Teams 2026For a club that has won more La Liga and Champions League titles than any other team on the planet, the past two seasons have been disappointments for Real Madrid, which finished behind archrival Barcelona in the Spanish league standings in back-to-back years and crashed out of European competition in the quarterfinals each time. Yet for all of the hand-wringing among the team’s exacting fans, business has never been better for Los Blancos.During the 2024-25 season, Real Madrid posted $1.27 billion in revenue, up 12% from its mark the year prior, already a record for a soccer club. In fact, the new figure just edges the Dallas Cowboys’ $1.23 billion from the 2024 NFL season for the highest revenue total for a sports team ever measured by Forbes (without adjusting for inflation). So even with Real Madrid sitting out Saturday’s Champions League final—where Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain will battle for an extra $29 million in prize money—Los Blancos are the world’s most valuable soccer team for the fifth year in a row, and the tenth time in the past 13 editions of Forbes’ annual ranking. Real Madrid is now valued at $9.5 billion—a $2 billion lead on No. 2 Barça, which last season became the only other soccer club ever to have surpassed $1 billion in revenue (excluding player trading).Despite the Spanish dominance at the top, La Liga has only one additional club represented among the 30 most valuable soccer teams, leaving it behind England’s Premier League (11), the United States’ Major League Soccer (seven) and Italy’s Serie A (four) in its representation in the valuation ranking. Germany’s Bundesliga also has three clubs among the top 30, and France’s Ligue 1 and Portugal’s Primeira Liga each have one to fill out the list.On average, the 30 teams are worth $2.9 billion, a 21% increase from 2025’s record $2.4 billion.ForbesOne notable omission from the ranking is Serie A club Napoli, which recently fielded an unsolicited offer of around $2.3 billion from sports-focused private equity firm Underdog Global Partners, according to a report from the Athletic citing unnamed sources. (In an email to investors reviewed by Forbes, Underdog did not explicitly deny making the bid but said, “Anything you read in the press should be taken for what it is at this stage—pure speculation.”)Such a price—at roughly 11.7 times Napoli’s $197 million in 2024-25 revenue, excluding player trading—would be an extreme outlier in European soccer. For instance, the sale of La Liga’s Atlético de Madrid to Apollo Sports Capital, which closed in March and was priced at roughly $2.95 billion at the current exchange rate, including debt, came at about six times the team’s revenue the previous season. In the Premier League, meanwhile, Forbes values five top teams between 6.0 and 8.3 times trailing-year revenue and most other clubs below 4x. At a multiple between 3x and 4x, in line with marquee Italian clubs like Inter Milan and AS Roma, Napoli would be worth less than $800 million. The math works quite differently in MLS, where the average multiple is 8.9x, and in other major North American sports leagues, including the NBA (12.9x), the NFL (10.7x), the NHL (8.9x) and even MLB (7x). The gap is a result of numerous challenges that make European soccer clubs less enticing to investors, starting with the promotion-relegation model. In England, for example, the three teams that are demoted from the Premier League to the second-tier Championship each year see their annual revenue decline by tens of millions of dollars—a threat that looms over even well-established clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, which narrowly avoided relegation this season.European leagues have also been confronted with a more tepid market for media rights than many of their American counterparts and must grapple with a less commercialized sporting culture more broadly. Liverpool, for instance, is dialing back planned ticket price increases in the face of fan protests after charging an average of $99 in 2025—more than most of its European rivals but less than half the comparable figure for top NFL franchises. In addition, European soccer lacks a salary cap, and the arms race for the most talented players has traditionally made the sport a fairly unprofitable enterprise. Those factors, among others, help explain why Real Madrid lags well behind the $13 billion valuation of the NFL’s Cowboys even though it has the edge in revenue.Still, the Atlético sale, along with some transactions involving lower-profile teams outside the 30 most valuable soccer clubs, shows that investors’ interest may be growing. Just last year, Forbes valued Atlético at 3.8 times revenue, and the average multiple of the European clubs in the top 30 was 5.1x, compared with 5.6x this year.Stoking the enthusiasm, teams that finish high in their domestic league’s standings gain access to increasingly lucrative continental tournaments such as the Champions League, which is reportedly poised for a 20% increase in its media rights fees for the cycle that begins in 2027, and a wave of new and renovated stadiums should help revenue continue to grow at the local level. Real Madrid and England’s Everton are among the clubs that have recently unveiled significant venue upgrades, and projects are expected to be completed over the next few years at Barcelona, Manchester United and AS Roma and in Milan, where AC Milan and Inter Milan are collaborating to replace the historic San Siro. However, the biggest driver of valuations right now is the influx of American investors desperate to break into sports ownership. This season, more than half of the clubs in the Premier League were majority-owned by Americans or U.S.-based firms, and Americans or Canadians controlled nine of Serie A’s 20 teams, as well as three clubs in La Liga after Apollo’s purchase of Atlético. U.S. investors have also begun to buy up teams in lower divisions and in other countries, such as Mexico, where Atlanta-based Innovatio Capital acquired Liga MX’s Querétaro in July and New York’s General Atlantic took a 49% stake in Club América in December.“There are just so many Americans with cash who like sports, and the American market is kind of closed off to a lot of these owners,” one European soccer insider says. “If you’re an American millionaire from North Carolina, you’re probably priced out of your local USL club, and you’re definitely priced out of an MLS club—that is like cash billionaires now.“But if you can buy an English football club—maybe even though they’re all the way down the system—at one times revenue, when a USL club is probably trading at anywhere from seven to 15 times revenue, that’s probably a no-brainer.”The World’s Most Valuable Soccer Teams 2026 #1. $9.5 billionReal MadridLeague: Spanish La Liga | One-Year Change: 41% | Revenue: $1.265 billion of each league and each team. For teams based in Europe, estimates of revenue and operating income (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) reflect the 2024-25 season and are rounded to the nearest $1 million. For U.S. clubs, figures reflect the 2025 regular season and are taken from Forbes’ annual MLS team valuations, published in February. The team values reflect the economics of each team’s stadium but do not include the value of the stadium real estate itself. Equity stakes in other sports-related assets and mixed-use real estate projects are also excluded.Forbes excludes player trading and disposals of player registrations from its operating income and revenue tabulations. For MLS clubs, playoff games and shared distributions from the league are also omitted.Debt is measured in terms of interest-bearing borrowings due in more than one year (including stadium debt). Because enterprise value is a capital-structure-neutral metric, it allows Forbes to compare teams with different debt and equity structures.Where necessary, revenue and operating income numbers are converted to U.S. dollars based on the average exchange rate during the season (€1 = $1.09, £1 = $1.29, £1 = €1.19).No one-year valuation changes are listed for Benfica, Everton or VfB Stuttgart, which were not included in Forbes’ 2025 ranking of the 30 most valuable soccer teams. The information used to compile Forbes’ valuations came from teams’ annual reports and documents, team executives, soccer team investors, credit rating agency reports and sports bankers, as well as the annual Deloitte Football Money League report and the soccer finance reporter known as Swiss Ramble.More From ForbesFORBES | By Justin BirnbaumThe Most Valuable MLS Teams 2026FORBES | By Maneet AhujaNew Billionaire David Beckham On His Family And LegacyFORBES | By Brett KnightMexican Soccer Team Sells For More Than $120 Million To American-Led GroupFORBES | By Brett KnightThe World’s 10 Highest-Paid Athletes 2026This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSunil Gavaskar crowns Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as 'God’s gift to Indian cricket' after SRH carnageSunil Gavaskar has declared Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a “God’s gift to Indian cricket” after the teenage sensation’s breathtaking performances in IPL 2026, with the batting legend even backing the 15-year-old for a place in India’s upcoming T20I tour of England.Sooryavanshi has emerged as the biggest story of the IPL season after producing one explosive innings after another for Rajasthan Royals. His latest masterpiece came in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he hammered a stunning 97 off just 29 balls and completely dismantled one of the tournament’s strongest bowling attacks. The RR opener smashed 12 sixes during the innings and equalled Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest IPL playoff fifty, reaching the milestone in just 16 deliveries. He also came within touching distance of Chris Gayle’s all-time record for the fastest IPL century before falling three runs short. However, Sooryavanshi did surpass Gayle’s long-standing record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, taking his tally to a staggering 65 maximums.Reacting to the teenager’s astonishing rise, Gavaskar said Indian cricket should not hesitate to fast-track him into the national T20 side despite his young age."2026 will be remembered as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Year. He (Sooryavanshi) is ready to play T20 International cricket," Gavaskar said on Sports Tak."For England away T20 series, he will be selected. I mean he deserves to be selected after this brilliant show. If you don't give him chance after this performance, when will you give him chance?"Gavaskar insisted that age should not become a barrier for a player already dominating some of the world’s best bowlers."Don't go by his age. He is hitting those bowlers who are older than him. In fact at 15, he is hitting bowlers with 15 years of international experience. Just look at his fearless approach," Gavaskar said. The former India captain admitted India would face difficult selection calls if Sooryavanshi is included in the T20 setup, with players like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson already occupying top-order roles."Yes there will be headache as to whom you should drop. But it is a happy headache to have. When your option is whom to drop, that speaks of your country's depth of talent.""I think he (Sooryavanshi) will be kept in squad of 15 or 16 but whether he will be in 11 or not can be decided later. But the experience he will gain in that dressing room will be priceless," he added.Gavaskar appeared especially impressed with the technical quality behind Sooryavanshi’s six-hitting, saying the youngster’s clean striking separates him from traditional power-hitters."What we saw yesterday, even when I take into account some of his earlier innings, was different. He is not just special, he is very, very extra-ordinarily special.""When we visualize six hitters, the idea of a slogger comes to our mind. But this kid hits straight sixes -- over long on and long off with technical perfectness.""And when one bowls short balls, he comes inside the line and hooks and pulls it with such cleanliness, that's a rarity. Not just me but everyone apart from SRH players were sad when he got out at 97 and missed the record for fastest century. Sooryavanshi is God's gift to Indian cricket."Gavaskar also drew parallels with his first impressions of Sachin Tendulkar as a teenager, although he stopped short of making direct comparisons."Sachin had all qualities. He could attack, he could defend, all shots in the book. His balance was very different. When I saw him for first time, I thought that he too was God's gift.""The bats are different. That time Sachin played, bats were different and weren't as powerful. You need bats like you get now to hit those sixes."The former India skipper also revealed an emotional moment before practice when Sooryavanshi came over and touched his feet."Our upbringing teaches us to respect our elders. Not just me, Sanjay Bangar was standing alongside me and he touched his feet also. He might have expected that I would say something and I told him 'Lage Raho' (Carry on)."When asked what he hoped for the youngster going forward, Gavaskar ended with a smile."I don't want that kid in him to grow up," he said in jest.Sooryavanshi has now scored 680 runs in 15 innings this season at a stunning strike rate of 242.85, with one century, four fifties, 55 fours and 65 sixes, underlining one of the greatest breakout IPL seasons ever witnessed.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPep Guardiola has left a mark like no other as Manchester City have nailed their tributes this weekPep Guardiola has left a mark like no other as Manchester City have nailed their tributes this weekIt was a week ago today that Manchester City announced that Pep Guardiola would step down as City manager. Pep Guardiola’s farewell to the Etihad Stadium and the City fans has come and gone. Guardiola’s, as well as Bernardo Silva’s and John Stones’ City careers, were celebrated with gusto at Manchester City’s parade and after-party that celebrated City’s success for the entire club this week. Throughout this week, City have nailed it as they’ve released a series of touching tributes to Pep Guardiola. Throughout it all, you cannot help but look back at the past decade and be grateful to Guardiola and his team. A new era will begin, but the past decade will live forever.Manchester City have paid fitting tribute to Pep Guardiola throughout this week. The new North Stand at the Etihad Stadium has been named the Pep Guardiola Stand. Guardiola will also have a statue erected outside the Pep Guardiola Stand. Those are fitting tributes for the past decade that has unfolded under Pep at Manchester City. However, this week, the City media team has paid a host of tributes to the greatest manager in the club’s history.First of all, Manchester City produced a video message for Guardiola, about the fans journey throughout his decade as manager. It was a beautiful video package that summed up the journey Guardiola has taken City on. Manchester City’s fans have lived the journey with Guardiola; he wouldn’t have had it any other way. Neither would City’s supporters.Perhaps the most special video that City released this week was when Pep Guardiola sat down to view tribute messages from Manchester City fans. The videos were heartwarming and spanned every generation of City supporter. The love for Pep shone through, as did his tears when seeing the joy he has brought City fans. One of the greatest aspects of Guardiola’s management is that he made City fans part of the journey for the entire decade. Manchester City is his club; the fans loved him from day one. Fittingly, one of his final acts was to feel the love from City fans that will last forever. It was a beautiful touch from the City media team.Lastly, Pep Guardiola sat down with Noel Gallagher to discuss the past decade. Gallagher was the first person to interview Guardiola when he became City manager. It was a nice touch to see the pair discuss a wide range of topics on Pep’s way out. That interview capped off a superb week of tributes to Guardiola and his decade as Manchester City manager. The journey with Guardiola as City manager has been a special ride.Personally, it still hasn’t sunk in that Pep Guardiola’s time at Manchester City is over. For the past decade, he has been a constant at City. Seeing Guardiola in the dugout always felt like a security blanket ahead of a new season or a big match. Given the way the news cycle operates in football, there isn’t a lot of time to pause and reflect. This piece is my time to have that brief moment. The past decade has been special. There is no other way to put it. Any Manchester City fan would have dreamt of seeing the club win 20 trophies in a decade. It has been a privilege to see City do that with Guardiola as manager. Pep Guardiola’s playing style was a joy to watch. The fact that he did it at Manchester City is even more remarkable. For the past decade, they have been the most successful club and dominated English football and conquered the world. Guardiola has led City down that path. It has been a joy to watch, experience and live. Pep Guardiola has taken us all for the ride; City fans have backed him all the way. That has stood out across the tribute videos City have released this week.A decade is a long period of time. Life twists and turns over a ten-year period. Every Manchester City supporter has experienced this. Throughout the past decade, Pep Guardiola has always been there, at City. Now he is not. Guardiola has stepped down from his post; City has honored him, and Guardiola seems at peace with his decision to step away. That is the perfect ending for Pep at Manchester City. This week’s tributes for Guardiola from City’s media team have been perfect. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMarcus Rashford: Barcelona dream evaporating fastMarcus Rashford: Barcelona dream evaporating fast Marcus Rashford could be set for heartbreak in his endeavour to prolong his dream stint at Barcelona, if the latest reports emerging from Spain are any indication. The Mancunian scored 14 times while registering as many assists as the Blaugrana ran away with the La Liga title. While manager Hansi Flick appeared satisfied, the Barca officials have had cold feet over triggering the Englishman’s buy option, which stands at a mere £26 million. They initially asked Manchester United to reduce their asking price, then demanded another loan, and subsequently proceeded to dilly-dally over the payment terms.Barcelona have plans to replace Marcus RashfordNow with Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon on his way to the Camp Nou, there seems to be little appetite from Barca to sign the United forward on a permanent basis.INEOS are not too concerned, as they feel they can get a better price from elsewhere, and SPORT have revealed that United’s co-owners might need to start offering their academy graduate to other clubs very soon. The Catalan giants are reportedly interested in signing long-term target Bernardo Silva, with super agent Jorge Mendes pushing for the deal.Should the Portuguese international end up signing for Barcelona, it will be curtains for Marcus Rashford. With a return to Old Trafford off the cards, it will be interesting to see where his future lies.City star in, Marcus Rashford out“Bernardo Silva is waiting for Barça, although he also has another offer from La Liga. It’s from Atlético de Madrid.“It’s also worth noting that the arrival of Bernardo Silva would completely rule out Rashford, who has played this season at the Camp Nou on loan from Manchester United, from remaining at Barça.“With the arrival of the Portuguese player and the already confirmed signing of Anthony Gordon, there would be no room in the squad for the English winger.”United are also in the market for left-sided reinforcements, but it is likely to be at left-back instead of left wing after the emergence of Patrick Dorgu.Feature image Alex Caparros via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama Uses Adversity As MotivationWASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 10: Victor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs celebrates after a 131-121 victory against the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena on February 10, 2025 in Washington, DC. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by Greg Fiume/Getty Images)Getty ImagesOnce again, San Antonio Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama exerted his dominance. Just like an old-school center, Wembanyama showcased his scoring skills in the post and his defensive presence at the rim. Just like a modern-day big, Wembanyama showcased his shooting range to open the game. On and on the highlight reels went until the Spurs ended with a 118-91 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. The outcome forced the best thing about the NBA playoffs: a Game 7 on Saturday. The play in between ensured Wembanyama’s Game 6 excellence with 28 points while shooting 10-for-21 from the field and 4-for-9 from 3-point range along with 10 rebounds and three blocks. That represented a much better version than what Wembanyama showed in a Game 5 loss with 20 points while going 4-for-15 overall and 0-for-5 from deep along with six boards and three blocks. The Spurs and the 22-year-old Wemabanyama surely expected that to happen after cementing himself as the NBA’s best two-way player in only his third NBA season. That also led to Wembanyama finishing third for the NBA’s regular-season MVP award. But Wembanyama didn’t just flex his offensive and defensive talent in Game 6. He also displayed how to thrive in adversity. After the Thunder limited him with varying double teams and one-on-one matchups, Wembanyama became an unstoppable force. After becoming frustrating with the Thunder’s physicality, Wembanyama seemed more composed. After becoming annoyed enough to skip league-mandated post-game interviews following Game 5, Wembanyama appeared much more reflective on managing both success and failure following Game 6. At only 22 years old, Wembanyama still has plenty of years to further cement himself as the NBA’s best player both in performance and accolades. He has plenty of time to harness how he internalizes setbacks. He has plenty of seasons to figure out how to fuel his competitive edge. At only 22 years old, however, Wembanyama has already appeared pretty close in blending all of those potentially contrasting qualities together. OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA - MAY 18: Victor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs reacts during the second quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game One of the NBA Western Conference Finals at Paycom Center on May 18, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty Images)Getty ImagesWembanyama becomes highly-critical of himself when he doesn’t excel. He becomes chippy toward his opponents when they succeed at his expense. He follows mindfulness practice when he becomes upset. Because of those qualities, Wembanyama will rarely become complacent with success. Because of those qualities, Wembanyama will always become motivated from failure. Because Wembanyama nurses those mature qualities, it remains disappointing that he skipped on league-imposed post-game interviews following the Spurs’ Game 5 loss. Yes, the NBA only gave him a warning over a fine because he was a first-time offender. Yes, neither Spurs officials or teammates will hold Wembanyama in contempt should he ever do it again. Yes, media members will still likely vote Wembanyama for the Pro Basketball Writer’s Association “Magic Johnson Award,” which goes to a player that deals with the media and fans in a graceful manner. Neither Wembanyama nor anyone else should lose sight, however, that his presence during post-game interviews matters. It will drive the NBA’s global popularity. It will enhance the lucrative media rights deal even more. It will tell everyone that he takes ownership of every positive and negative moment in his career. Nonetheless, Wembanyama has also proven that he can lead strongly by letting his words do most of the talking. The latest example: how Wembanyama performed in Game 6. He opened the game making two 3s. He then blocked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s layup attempt. He joined David Robinson and Tim Duncan as the only players in franchise history to post at least 25 points and 10 rebounds in five playoff games in the same postseason run. On a night that the Spurs could have ended their season, Wembanyama gave them new hope to upset the Thunder on the road in a decisive Game 7. At a time that a young phenom may seem satisfied with just appearing in his first playoffs, Wembanyama has operated like the restless vet eager to win his first NBA championship. At a time when young prospects still mostly rely on their talent, Wembanyama taps into his competitiveness, patience and team-oriented attitude. Who knows if that will be enough at least this season. The top-seeded Thunder excelled in two Game 7s during last year’s NBA championship run in the second round against Denver and in the Finals against Indiana. The Thunder have also maintained resilience throughout this competitive playoff series. Even if the Spurs advance, the New York Knicks are well rested and have dominated arguably inferior competition with superior two-way consistency. Wembanyama reminded his team, his opponent and the public, however, that he will embrace any challenge. He has succeeded during most of these moments not only because he possesses point-guard talent in a big-man’s body. Wembanyama already boasts the right mix of competitiveness, arrogance and humility following hardship. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMStephon Castle, Spurs 'feel like we’re better than this team' ahead of Game 7 vs ThunderSAN ANTONIO — The Western Conference finals are headed to the distance. The OKC Thunder and San Antonio Spurs will play for a winner-take-all Game 7 after the Spurs rolled to a 118-91 win in Game 6 on Thursday night inside Frost Bank Center. With its season hanging in the balance, San Antonio delivered its most complete performance of the series behind a dominant bounce-back outing from star Victor Wembanyama. The 7-foot-4 phenom imposed his will early, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in just 28 minutes while knocking down four 3-pointers.Spurs teammates emphasized after their Game 5 loss that they needed a more aggressive version of Wembanyama. He responded immediately. But according to Wembanyama, motivation was never tied to one bad night."Today, winning in the NBA means just as much to me as winning back when I was playing at the middle-school level or in regional competitions,” Wembanyama said. “Competitiveness has always been the same for me."More: Victor Wembanyama, Spurs dismantle Thunder to force Game 7 for NBA Finals spotSan Antonio’s urgency showed everywhere.Second-year guard Stephon Castle continued his breakout postseason run with 17 points, nine assists and five rebounds while helping fuel the Spurs on both ends of the floor.Following San Antonio’s Game 5 road loss, Castle said the Spurs tend to thrive when desperation kicks in. Thursday only reinforced that belief. And while Castle has already experienced pressure-packed moments — including winning a national championship as a freshman at UConn in 2024 and a gold medal with Team USA at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship — he admitted this stage feels different. But none of those feats pale in comparison to being a win away from the NBA Finals."As a group, we all want this," Castle said. "It's right there in front of us. “We feel like collectively that we’re better than this team and we didn't want to let our fans down on our home court either. So coming out here with a chance to go back to OKC and play a Game 7 I feel like is all the motivation we need."More: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder get smacked in Game 6 by Spurs | NBA Playoffs report cardNow, the series shifts back to OKC with everything on the line.Game 7 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday on NBC and Peacock. The anticipation is already building inside both locker rooms."I think a lot of fans are going to be happy," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. "This is the best line in sports I believe. We'll be prepared, take the next 40 hours or whatever it may be to try to get ready, get organized, and get ready to go into a hostile environment against the defending champs in the Western Conference finals."For a team that's done it multiple times and knows exactly what it takes, I would expect to get their best punch. We're gonna go out with our eyes wide open and expect nothing less."Jordan Davis covers high school sports for The Oklahoman. Have a story idea for Jordan? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe three signings Florentino Perez has planned for Real Madrid this summer – reportThe three signings Florentino Perez has planned for Real Madrid this summer – reportFlorentino Perez has been queerly silent about his election campaign’s manifesto, so much so that it seems he trusts he will be elected back on the merit of what he has done for the club over the years. So far, the president has not announced any plans of his openly, nor about the manager he has in mind to take Real Madrid forward, nor on the signings he guarantees if he is made president once more. For all of this silence to coexist with a moment where Enrique Riquelme is openly exposing him, needless to say, paints a puzzling picture.Perez’s player planPerez likes Joao Neves. (Photo by Franco Arland/Getty Images)While it remains uncertain if Perez will ever name the players he sees as good signings for the club before the election, Tiempo de Juego have come out with a three-man list that they claim is Perez’s ideal summer. The first player on the list is PSG’s versatile midfielder Joao Neves, whom Perez is rumoured to like as an option to reinforce the midfield. At just 21, he is a young and high-quality option who would fit into the long-term project.Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan is the second player whom Perez loves and sees as an ideal fit for the team, especially at a time when they have been struggling at the back. At 27 years of age, the central defender brings the right mix of experience and energy – something that is crucial in the department.Bastoni is linked with Real Madrid. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images)The third and final signing that Perez sees as a positive for the team is that of Victor Munoz – the Osasuna player on whom Real Madrid have a buy-back option. After all, his stocks are at an all-time high after his inclusion in Spain’s World Cup squad.A radical opponentWhile Perez has not openly disclosed any of his signings or moves if he is elected president once more, Riquelme has begun painting a very rosy picture of his possible presidency and the changes that he will bring. The challenger began by directly backing members to receive more benefits from the club and has revealed that he already has a top-class, experienced manager signed for the club.He also spoke highly of Manchester City’s Rodri, raising speculation that the Ballon d’Or winner may be his star signing.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 49 Views 0 Προεπισκόπηση
