Brayden Watson Gives Michigan Its First 2027 LB
Michigan filled a key spot in its 2027 recruiting class on May 29 when Brayden Watson committed as the Wolverines’ first linebacker pledge in the cycle. For a defense that needs to keep stocking off-ball depth, adding a true linebacker this early gives the staff a starting point for how the future rotation can be built.Watson is a three-star prospect from Buford High School in Georgia, listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He also became Michigan’s 16th known verbal commitment in the class and its 11th commitment during May.Why this matters for Michigan’s linebacker boardLinebacker was the clear opening in the class. Michigan had built out much of its 2027 group, but it had not landed a player at that position until Brayden Watson jumped in.That is an important piece of roster planning. Off-ball linebackers often need time in a college weight program, and Watson’s frame suggests Michigan can develop him over multiple years before expecting him to handle Big Ten traffic inside.Watson fits the kind of projection Michigan can work withThe Michigan Wolverines linebacker recruit brings length at 6-foot-3, even if the current 200-pound listing points to a longer development track. That profile fits a player who could grow into a larger every-down role after adding strength and learning the structure of the defense.Michigan offered Watson in January, which shows this was not a late board fill-in. The staff identified him early, stayed on the recruitment, and closed on a prospect who held nearly 20 Division I offers and ranked No. 39 among linebackers, No. 61 in Georgia, and No. 505 overall in the composite rankings listed in his commitment profile.Buford keeps showing up in Michigan’s recruiting planBrayden Watson’s pledge also keeps Michigan active at Buford, one of the more recognizable high school programs in the country. Pulling another Georgia-based recruit into the class shows the Wolverines are still willing to go outside the Midwest for defensive athletes with room to develop.Alex Whittingham was closely tied to the recruitment, and Watson’s comments tied Michigan’s push to that relationship, as detailed after the commitment. On the field, that matters because linebacker recruiting usually works best when the position coach gets in early and stays consistent through the process. What comes next for the 2027 linebacker classBrayden Watson gives Michigan a first piece, not a finished room. The next question is whether the staff adds another true inside linebacker in the 2027 class or balances Watson with a more hybrid defender who can play in space, because that second addition would give a clearer read on how Michigan wants to shape its future linebacker rotation.

Mailbag: Will Kirk Cousins be good enough to quiet calls for Fernando Mendoza to start for Las Vegas Raiders?
HENDERSON, NEVADA - MAY 28: Quarterbacks Fernando Mendoza #15 and Kirk Cousins #8 of the Las Vegas Raiders practice during an OTA offseason workout at the Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters/Intermountain Health Performance Center on May 28, 2026 in Henderson, Nevada. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images) | Getty Images We’re still a ways away from training camp and the Las Vegas Raiders having to make any decisions on the 53-man roster, but OTAs are underway in Las Vegas, and thus, the battles for positioning on the depth chart have already begun. That’s the focus for this week’s mailbag as we get closer to the dead period on the Raiders’ calendar.TVRaiderWill Kirk Cousins be a noticeable enough improvement over Geno/Minshew/AOC starts the past couple of years? Or is he sufficiently washed enough that fans will be clamoring for a QB change by like Week #6 or something? The stats (EPA, QBR, Value as Starter QB) say yes, but might not be meaningful. A: To be honest, I don’t think there is much Kirk Cousins can do to quiet the calls for Fernando Mendoza to start. Especially if Mendoza plays well in the preseason, even if that comes against backups, fans are going to want to see him on the field in the regular season. I get that. He was the No. 1 pick and is tabbed as the “future of the franchise”, so people want to see what he’s got sooner rather than later.Cousins will have to play like prime Peyton Manning, while the Raiders come out of the gates hot and are winning for people not to want Mendoza to start. That’s hyperbolic, but I think you get the overall point I’m trying to make here.Personally, I’m not expecting much from Cousins. He played solidly down the stretch and the Falcons were better with him at quarterback than Michael Penix Jr. last season. But the guy turns 38 in August and hasn’t looked like the Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback he was before tearing an Achilles in 2023. Being old and injured is a tough combination to overcome, and that’s what cost him the job in Atlanta. That being said, Cousins’ play on the field is probably the third most important responsibility on the team this year, in my opinion. First is being Mendoza’s mentor and making sure he’s set up for success in the NFL, especially when it comes to the mental and preparation aspects of playing quarterback in the league. The second is being a veteran voice/leader in a young locker room.To me, that’s how the 14-year pro will make a lasting impact on the Raiders, and anything positive he brings as an actual player is a bonus.Q: Is Mike Washington not just a faster Zamir White? I have a feeling we’re gonna hate watching him run in zone.A: In full disclosure, this question was asked after the draft, and I didn’t have time to get to it then, so I bookmarked it and forgot about it until earlier this week. Whoops, and apologies for my very delayed response.Washington is definitely better as a downhill runner, but he has much better vision than White does. I really like the way Washington sets up blocks, and he had a few good reads on outside zone runs with Arkansas last year. Don’t get me wrong, he has room for improvement on zone concepts and will probably always be a committee type of back, but I’m pretty excited to see what he can bring to the offense as a homerun-hitter out of the backfield. If you’re looking for some reasons to buy stock in the fourth-round pick, dive into my film breakdown on him below. R8RN8tionEthosLet’s just say there’s a massive, positive improvement across the board with this team by the end of the year. I’m not necessarily implying Super Bowl or a deep playoff run, but rather a glaringly obvious huge step forward with the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. What are the chances we can run it back with the same coaching staff? Do you believe the likelihood of that is almost certain, or are there coaches on this staff that could potentially get poached for promotions? Obviously if things start clicking, players are improving, and the team as a whole is playing at a completely different level than we’ve been use to, I’d love to have this coaching staff run it back next year to keep that momentum going. But every year coaches get poached. Do we have any up and coming assistants on staff that could start commanding attention from other teams in this case? Or are most of the coaches currently new to their respective roles now and not on any rising star radars? Thanks MattA: The “problem” with having success in the NFL is that once a team gets some, every other club is going to want a piece of it. So, if the Raiders have a dramatic turnaround, expect some coaches to get poached in the offseason, especially if Mendoza plays well. There is going to be at least one team (and probably multiple) that is picking toward the top of the draft, will have fired their head coach and will be looking to take a rookie quarterback. If Mendoza is coming off a successful campaign and the Raiders pull off a quick turnaround, a guy like offensive coordinator Andrew Janocko will be a head coach target in the offseason.Janocko is still a young coach, just turned 38, and this will be his first season as a coordinator. But another organization is going to love the fact that he has extensive experience working with quarterbacks, has won a Super Bowl recently and been a part of a quick turnaround. Again, this is working under the assumption that Las Vegas exceeds expectations this year. All of that being said, I do think there’s a good chance that the Raiders can keep the majority of their coaching staff after next season. The team will likely have to be in the playoffs for their coaches to be hot commodities in the offseason, and (sorry to be the bearer of bad news) I just don’t see that happening with a young roster in 2026. with1ntheruinsAm I really that football dumb or is Zuhn’s “lack of length” being overblown? We drafted him 91st overall. He shared the Jacobs trophy for the top blocker in the entire country with Kadyn Proctor who went 12th to Miami. Zuhn’s arms are only about an inch shorter and he’s maybe a half inch shorter than Kadyn. He’s also 40 pounds lighter and nearly 20 points more athletic according to his NFL draft profile. He played 48/50 games in college at LT and had the best pass blocking grade in D1 history. He only allowed 15 pressures total the entire 2024 season. He was a team captain and all SEC player. Kadyn meanwhile iirc, had concerns about his commitment/conditioning during the draft. Kadyn flipped his college commitments 3 or 4 different times while Zuhn committed entirely to Texas A&M. Make of that what you will but I feel like that reflects a lot better on Zuhn. Zuhn’s profile on NFL draft buzz said he’s basically already an elite pass blocker and needs to work on his run blocking. I would think run blocking would be easier to improve upon in the NFL than pass blocking. Kadyn’s profile says he gets beat way too often for a 3-year SEC starter, his mass works against him often and his arms are also short for his frame.tldr; everything statistically reads to me like Zuhn was a steal at 91st overall. What am I missing here? I could see like 29 inch arms being a problem but I fail to see how 32.5 inch arms vs 33.375 inch arms warrants an 80 slot draft difference.A: In a game of inches, an inch is significant! For context, Zuhn’s arm length is in the 19th percentile for an offensive lineman (the position group as a whole, not just tackles), and Proctor’s is in the 44th percentile, according to MockDraftable. So, both guys have below-average length for NFL standards, but the former would be an even bigger outlier than the latter. Mockdraftable lists a little over 34 inches as the mean arm length for an NFL offensive tackle, and Procter is in the 23rd percentile for the position, while the site doesn’t even offer an OT comparison for Zuhn. The issue with shorter arms in pass protection is that the margin for error reduces with a lack of length, especially on the edge. Tackles have to operate in space more than the interior linemen, and the goal in pass pro is to make the first significant contact against the pass-rusher, and the guy who has longer arms between the two will have the advantage. It’s like boxing or UFC fighting in that regard. Also part of Zuhn’s problem is that he has a below-average wingspan for a tackle, coming in just under 81 inches (per The Athletic’s Dane Brugler) when the mean is a little more than 82 inches. To be fair, that’s kind of the same issue because his arm length is tied to his wingspan, but I bring that up because it creates shorter edges for pass-rushers on top of the reach issue mentioned above. So, Zuhn is going to have to be on time and precise with his hands, on top of having the lateral movement skills to stay in front of pass-rushers and protect the edges. He did all of that pretty well in college, but it’s a whole different ball game in the pros, where the smallest disadvantage can get exposed. To me, the bigger issue with the Texas A&M product is something I think you’re downplaying: the running game. As good as Zuhn was as a pass-protector last year, he ranked 22nd among SEC offensive tackles with a below-average 58.4 run blocking grade from Pro Football Focus. He struggles to move defensive linemen and create rushing lanes, and I don’t see that all of a sudden getting better at the next level. That’s a big part of the difference between him and Proctor, who ranked fourth with an 81.1 mark.In other words, Zuhn is an offensive lineman who doesn’t have the ideal length to protect the edge in the NFL and isn’t a good run blocker. That brings up the question of: where do you play him? And that’s how he ends up sliding in the draft. With Proctor, a team is at least thinking they’re going to get a good guard out of him if he can’t hang at tackle. That being said, I would agree with the point that Proctor was overdrafted and has a better future on the interior.Mark Davis’ hairWith Trey Zuhn getting a lot of reps at RT, but being listed as a guard with center experience, where do you ultimately seeing him land? Could he be part of the starting 5?A: To pick up right where I left off, good question! LOL!Honestly, I don’t have a strong conviction on where Zuhn will play for the Raiders. I think his best position in the NFL is at center, where his arm length won’t be as big of an issue (he’s in the 47th percentile for that position), and it’s easier to give center help in the running game via combo blocks than it is at guard in a zone blocking scheme. However, unless something happens to Tyler Linderbaum, Zuhn has to find a different spot to see the field in Vegas.Ultimately, everything leads me back to the right tackle spot. That’s a big question mark for the Raiders, and if the coaching staff doesn’t trust D.J. Glaze or Charles Grant to protect Mendoza, Zuhn at least has a good track record of keeping quarterbacks clean in college. That being said, I’m a big believer in Grant and like him to win that job in training camp.ChrisVMDOpen ended and vague, giving you the floor:What’s something you’re convinced about our team/roster/coaches that is contrarian? If you’re feeling spicy, how about a positive one and a negative one.A: Keeping the theme going, I wasn’t a fan of John Spytek’s third-round picks, whereas a lot of other people seem to be high on them. With Zuhn, I just don’t know where he’s going to play in Las Vegas. I get the feeling this is going to be the Caleb Rogers/Charles Grant situation all over again, where a top 100 pick barely sees the field as a rookie. And if Zuhn is playing, that likely means Rogers or Grant aren’t for the second year in a row. With Keyron Crawford, it’s a situation where I dislike the pick, not the player. I get the idea with Crawford. He’s a high-level athlete who hasn’t played football for very long, so he has a high ceiling. I just think he’s a bigger project than most people realize, especially for a guy who was taken in the Top 75. Also, with how the edge group is currently constructed, he’s probably not going to see the field much as a rookie, too.To me, I feel like Spytek didn’t learn his lesson from last year and overdrafted a pair of prospects in the third round. Granted, Pete Carroll’s coaching staff was a big part of that problem in 2025, and obviously, that’s not an issue anymore. On a positive note, I think I’m more optimistic about Jack Bech than a lot of other people. I think he’s a good fit with Klint Kubiak and never felt like the Raiders had to draft a wide receiver early this year. I’m expecting Bech to have a much better performance in year two and am excited to see what he can do. If he doesn’t progress, hopefully the Raiders can be in a position to get Jeremiah Smith in 2027, or the upcoming wideout class ends up living up to the hype. I guess the real takeaway here is I’m not as down on the outlook at wide receiver as a lot of other people are.Kavman25I’m not hearing really any noise on EJ Williams or Jonathan Brady so far in OTA’s.What kind of influence does Fernando have in advocating for his guys to keep them on the team? There is something to be said for familiarity and comfortability with a quarterback and Fernando has had good success with both receivers.Do you think there is any world where Klint Kubiak and John Spytek sit down with Fernando to get his opinion and gain his perspective on how they could be impactful to the team? There are so many unknowns at receiver. It feels like if given the opportunity, Fernando could stand on the table and advocate to keep his guys. A: I’m sure Mendoza will have some influence because the organization is going to make sure he’s as comfortable as possible to hit the ground running as the franchise QB. But, at the end of the day, the better players are going to make the team and be on the field. So, E.J. Williams and Jonathan Brady have to hold up their end of the bargain and show out during training camp and the preseason. If it’s a situation where Williams and/or Brady are on the bubble and essentially tied with another receiver for the last roster spot, then familiarity with Mendoza or Mendoza’s opinion could be the deciding factor. However, if receivers like Malik Benson, Chase Roberts or anyone else in the same category are clearly playing better, then the coaching staff owes it to the rest of the locker room to put the best players who can contribute to the team on the roster. That being said, I do think the Indiana wideouts have a significant competitive advantage in training camp since they already have familiarity and chemistry with Mendoza, especially since he’ll be working with the second team offense to at least begin the summer. Considering everyone else will still be figuring out how to play with each other, having that immediate connection will be really significant.Raider LowdownDid we really address the linebacking corps or is this another year of bandaids on a deep cut?A: I do like the additions of Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker. However, Dean simply can’t stay healthy, and Walker enters year five still trying to find his footing in the NFL. Also, while Walker has never had a major injury, he has battled through minor ailments throughout his career, missing at least three games in each of the last three seasons. So, I was a little surprised Spytek didn’t draft a linebacker to potentially serve as the third off-ball linebacker since there’s a good chance that player will have to make a few spot starts given the two former Georgia Bulldogs’ injury histories. From the looks of it, Spytek and the coaching staff seem to be confident that either Tommy Eichenberg or Cody Lindenberg could fill that role.I liked both of those guys as prospects, so I can’t say I completely disagree with that thought process. But I do think there is some weight to the thought that the Raiders haven’t 100 percent solved their linebacker problem this offseason. If Dean can stay healthy and Walker finally puts it all together, then the defense is set on the second level for the next three years. But there’s a reason why that sentence starts the way it does. That’ll do it for this week’s mailbag. Colby Covington explains decision to retire from MMA and focus on RAF: ‘I’m much happier now’
TAMPA, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 14: Colby Covington is seen in his locker room prior to his fight during the UFC Fight Night event at Amalie Arena on December 14, 2024 in Tampa, Florida. (Photo by Mike Roach/Zuffa LLC) Colby Covington is returning to his roots. Earlier this month, Covington notified the UFC that he had retired from MMA. While not completely out of the blue, Covington is still a big name in the sport and could have continued fighting for many years; however, Covington wanted to leave the UFC so he could focus all his energy on his return to the wrestling mats at Real America Freestyle.“I’m not really retired, it’s just the red tape that I needed to open up all the matchups for Chad Bronstein and RAF,” Covington told Mike Heck of MMA Fighting. “I want to go against Arman [Tsarukyan], I want to test myself on this mat in the first sport that I started in. I started in wrestling. As a little kid, this is the sport that brought me into the UFC and gave me everything I had in the UFC. It’s wrestling. This is how I got an education. It got me a degree to go to college.“So, what I had to do to open up all these big matchups with Arman, with Marty [Kamaru Usman], potentially [Belal Muhammad], whatever you want to call it, red tape retire. But in my mind, I don’t feel like I’m retired because I would still take a fight. I still train every single day, I’m still in great shape and good health. So I don’t feel like I’m retired, but if that’s what needed to happen to get all these matchups in RAF, so be it.”The “red tape” Covington is referring to is a restriction the UFC has around its athletes competing against each other outside of the promotion. While the UFC seems to be comfortable with its fighters competing for RAF, the company has drawn the line at UFC fighters taking on other UFC fighters, making many of Covington’s most sought-after matchups impossible unless he retired from MMA. But while practicality may have been the biggest reason Covington retired from the UFC, the truth is he also enjoys RAF more than the UFC anyway.“I’m much happier now,” Covington said. “I had a lot of time reflecting after that fight, like, ‘Do I still want to do this? Is my head still in this game?’ I’ve achieved everything. I’ve already fought for a title four different times. I already fought in 7, 8, 9 different main events. So, I’m thankful for everything I’ve accomplished and everything I did in the UFC, but now I’m back to my true love and my passion, RAF.“It’s so much fun. It’s so light-hearted. You see, we’re hugging people on the stage. It’s not like that in the UFC. everybody’s like, ‘We want to kill each other!’ on stage. You see your opponent before the fight, and they’re like, ‘What’s up, bitch! I’m going to f*ck you up!’ It’s all serious. Here, it’s all love, and it’s family-friendly. I’m just so thankful to be a part of RAF.”MMA retirements are notoriously short-lived, and with Covington even acknowledging that his might not even be real, there is always the chance that the former interim UFC welterweight champion returns to the cage at least once more. But if he doesn’t and this really is the end, “Chaos” is at peace with the career he had inside the octagon.“Yeah, I’m OK with it. I’m OK with everything I’ve been able to accomplish,” Covington said. “I won a world title there. I fought many high-level fights, headlined many pay-per-views, sold millions of pay-per-views through the years, so I’ll be OK with it. I’ll have no regrets for everything that happened. Everything happens for a reason.”

Donald Trump’s contempt for female journalists is indicative of a much larger problem
Though it seems routine by now, each time I hear Donald Trump verbally attack journalists, particularly women of color, who are doing their job by asking him hard questions, I feel as though he has punched me in the gut, making me almost want to scream out against this monster bully-in-chief. With his verbal assaults, the president sends a strong message: that women are unworthy to hold the esteemed post of career journalist and that they don’t deserve respect. Related For anti-trans activists, it’s about cruelty, not politics. They want to harm trans people. Earlier this month, the president called one female journalist “dumb” while accusing another of being “a stupid person,” one after the other in a matter of seconds, all because they questioned him about the inflation of petroleum products brought on by his war on Iran and whether public taxes would be used in the construction of his ballroom. As I have thought about these exchanges, I’ve been transported in my mind’s eye back to a beautiful town in southeastern Poland on a warm summer day during one of my frequent visits to the country, where I conduct genealogy and Holocaust research. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today My good female Polish friend and I were walking along one of the streets, which connected to a small grassy field. On the other side of the field was a building site in which two young, shirtless men whom I considered to be very attractive were laboring in the hot sun. As my friend and I were walking, I kept my glance on the men. After a very brief time, they noticed me, and as they did, I saw their fists clench and faces tighten to a mad scowl. They tossed their tools to the ground and began to step toward us. I have seen this same body language on men in my own country. It’s a reaction stemming from a privilege, or perhaps more accurately, a right that males are granted from their first breath, the moment the doctor announces, “It’s a boy.” This right, which is unearned and the exclusive domain of those assigned male at birth, goes by the label of the “outward male gaze”: that powerful stare males are promised in their objectification of girls and women. Any other male who objectifies them, on the other hand, violates the rules and is at risk of ridicule, ostracization, and violence. Some men allow women to objectify them when it may feed their vanity, as long as they maintain ultimate control over the gaze. The hierarchy of power There is a strong connection between how Trump viciously berates primarily female reporters and the rageful reaction directed toward me from the young men in Poland. That connection is the privilege males are accorded in a patriarchal system established within a power hierarchy, with males on the very top layers subdivided between “Alphas” on the summit and “Betas” lower down. Females are placed at the bottom depending on their age and physical appearance. Gender roles include the set of socially defined roles and behaviors connected to the sex we are assigned at birth. These vary from culture to culture. Our society recognizes two distinct gender roles. One is the “masculine,” having the qualities and characteristics attributed to males. The other is the “feminine,” having the qualities and characteristics attributed to females. A third gender role, rarely condoned in our society, at least for those assigned “male” at birth, is “androgyny,” combining assumed male (andro) and female (gyne) qualities. “Gender” is constructed as a verb (a repeated action). According to social theorist Judith Butler in her book Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity, “The act that one does, the act that one performs, is, in a sense, an act that has been going on before one arrived on the scene. Hence, gender is an act, which has been rehearsed, much as a script survives the particular actors who make use of it, but which requires individual actors in order to be actualized and reproduced as reality once again.” Gender roles maintain the sexist structures of society, and heterosexism reinforces those roles by, for example, casting such epithets as “f***ot,” “d*ke,” “homo,” at anyone who steps outside their designated gender roles, regardless of their actual sexual identities. Society hurls these symbolic spears at the heart of anyone who violates socially constructed behavioral norms. The burden of the binary All people, no matter our assigned sex, are saddled with the heavy burden of the masculine/feminine binary. Concepts of masculinity and femininity promote the domination of males over females and reinforce the identification of maleness with power. Assigned males are encouraged to be independent, competitive, goal-oriented, and unemotional, and to value courage and toughness. Assigned females, on the other hand, are taught to be nurturing, emotional, sensitive, and expressive, and to care for others while disregarding their own needs. Society mandates that males must be “in control.” They cannot get too close to their feelings, and if they do, they certainly cannot allow them to show. They must “keep it all together” and “suck it up.” They cannot show vulnerability, awkwardness, or doubts. They must be “on top,” both in and out of bed. Within the male/masculine conflation, society maintains a rigidly controlled hierarchy: On top is the so-called “Alpha Male.” Characterized as the leader with inflated confidence, as well as mental and physical toughness, they are highly competitive; winning is the most important thing. Weaknesses for alpha males include intellectualism, empathy, and the display of any strong emotion other than anger or rage. They have a presence, meaning they take up the space they inhabit and are seen as physically dominant and virile. Signs of tenderness or vulnerability are only allowed when inebriated and during the heat of sex. The Beta Male, on the other hand, is seen by the Alpha as a follower, unremarkable, lacking confidence, avoiding risks, lacking physical presence and charisma, and acting overly emotional. Though ultimately unattainable for any male, the deceptive rabbit of masculinity circulates on a patriarchal track that projects the alluringly tasty rewards of control, security, and independence. But males end up perpetually competing in the race, sprinting after that ever-elusive creature. Some boys and men internalize this socially mandated illusion of masculinity to the extreme, resulting in a self-destructive and toxic hyper-masculinity. As they run and run and run around the course, they invariably stumble, hurting both themselves and others along the way. They build and accumulate frustration, turning to resentment and then to anger and often rage because they can never truly reach the promised patriarchal bait. For those who survive, the societal masters dispose of them as dog trainers dispose of overworked greyhounds. They are stalked, controlled, used, wasted, and ultimately slaughtered. Girls and women, who also grow up in this patriarchal system of domination, are certainly not immune to these messages. They may even collude to pressure males into staying in the race. When compulsory masculinity reaches the level of toxic hyper-masculinity (and even beforehand), males are forced to surrender their critical reasoning by never challenging the system, losing their individuality, abandoning moral and ethical compasses, ignoring their emotions, and bucking their very integrity and humanity for some promise of security, support, and camaraderie, not to mention the privileges that automatically accrue to followers of the patriarchy. Taken to extremes, this often results in violence. On the international scale, it results in wars. According to the social rules, gay and bisexual males can never ascend to the top ranks unless they achieve the pinnacle of social status through occupation and wealth. Transgender males can be accorded a certain degree of male privilege if an essential condition is met: that other people outside of their friendship spheres perceive them as males assigned at birth. Transgender women within this patriarchal pyramid, however, are seen as gender traitors who must forever relinquish their former standing in the gender order. This hierarchy of gender, just like the hierarchy of race, is a myth. It is made up. It is socially constructed to grant power and dominance to some (males) while delegating others (females) to the ranks of the powerless and marginalized. The outcomes often result in violence against women, gay and bisexual men, and trans people. Within the United States, violence against women, primarily intimate partner violence, including sexual violence, is currently a major public health problem. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 1 out of 3 (30+%) women worldwide have been the target of either physical and/or sexual intimate partner or non-partner violence in their lifetime. WHO found that the trauma women experience from this violence has lifetime effects on their physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. Violence against women and girls, like most social problems, is not inevitable, and it has solutions: massive educational efforts, more support systems, codification of mandated institutional and governmental policies, men and boys acting as positive role models, and each of us calling out those who violate the physical and emotional spaces of women and girls and all others who are targeted on the lower rungs of the social ladders of privilege and power. Fortunately, a new generation is challenging the system by revolutionizing the concept of gender identity and expression. They are shaking up traditionally dichotomous notions of male/female, masculine/feminine, and gay/straight. They are courageously calling into question this social myth of gender normativity and heteronationalism. They have opened the boxes for all of us to ultimately obliterate the gender status quo showing us the enormous gender continuum. Their stories and experiences have great potential to bring us into a future where everyone will live unencumbered by social taboos and cultural norms. It is a future in which our unrestrained expressions can live and prosper in us all. This future will come faster if we stop electing leaders who enforce the status quo. ‘Throw age out of the window’: Kagiso Rabada's blunt take on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Kagiso Rabada believes Rajasthan Royals teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's remarkable IPL 2026 campaign has been built on fearless cricket, quick reflexes and an ability to read bowlers earlier than most players his age.The Gujarat Titans pacer showered praise on the 15-year-old after Qualifier 2 on Friday, where Sooryavanshi's stunning 96 went in vain as GT chased down 215 to secure a seven-wicket win and book their place in the IPL 2026 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.Sooryavanshi once again lit up the contest with a 47-ball 96, following his blistering 97 in the Eliminator. The teenager signed off from the season with 776 runs, ending his campaign at the top of the run-scoring charts for now, although Shubman Gill still has an opportunity to surpass him in Sunday's final. Sooryavanshi also narrowly missed out on a second successive century after being dismissed by Rabada.Speaking after the match, Rabada admitted Sooryavanshi continues to surprise everyone with his maturity and attacking approach."He just keeps amazing everyone who watches the game. He's got such fast hands, and he picks length quickly. He's got so much energy."The South African said the youngster's fearless mindset has been one of the biggest reasons behind his success this season."When you're young, you have so much energy and no fear, and that's exactly what he's shown, no fear and just a natural instinct for the game that allows him to perform the way he is performing."Rabada felt Sooryavanshi's performances have already moved beyond discussions about age."At this stage, you throw age out of the window; it doesn't matter how old he is. It's amazing what he's doing."Earlier, Gujarat's pace attack had put Rajasthan under pressure with Mohammed Siraj and Rabada striking early. However, Sooryavanshi fought back once again, sharing a valuable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 45, as Rajasthan posted 214/6.Rabada, who finished with figures of 2/35 from his four overs, admitted Gujarat were not at their best with the ball despite restricting Rajasthan below what they believed was a par score."The plan was to back our strengths, as we normally do, and hopefully get early wickets. We did get two early wickets, but then they fought back, and we missed our mark by bowling a few too many short balls, where we probably wanted to challenge them a bit more upfront."The fast bowler said GT never felt out of the contest despite Sooryavanshi's counterattack."They got away from us a little, but we knew we weren't completely out of it because we knew we could still get wickets. We had the game under control until the 19th over."Rabada also acknowledged the challenge faced by Rashid Khan on a batting-friendly surface and felt Gujarat could have restricted Rajasthan to a lower total."It was pretty tough for Rashid (Khan) to come on and bowl on this wicket as a spinner against some genuine power hitters. We probably felt that 180-190 was what we should have restricted them to, barring the dropped catch (of Sooryavanshi)."GT eventually made light work of the chase through a magnificent century from captain Shubman Gill and a 167-run opening stand with Sai Sudharsan, reaching the target with eight balls to spare.Rabada also praised his bowling partnership with Siraj, saying the Indian pacer's intensity and ability to build pressure have been crucial for Gujarat throughout the season."Siraj's my partner this season. We've just been trying to operate as a partnership. If he's putting pressure on from the other end, then hopefully I can do the same, and that's how we get wickets.""Everyone knows him. He's got a lot of heart, and he's got a lot of skill too. It's lovely to be bowling with him (as) it just increases your chances of getting a wicket because someone at the other end is applying just as much pressure, if not more."

Ben Johnson’s Caleb Williams message shows what Bears want next
Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty ImagesBen Johnson’s message to Caleb Williams was not a criticism. It was a reminder of what comes next for a quarterback the Chicago Bears increasingly trust to run their offence.Williams is not being evaluated on talent alone anymore. The focus is shifting to his command of the huddle, his communication, and what he does before the snap. That is exactly what he needs to hear. The Bears have seen enough to stop treating him like a developing prospect and start holding him to the standards of a franchise quarterback.Ben Johnson wants Caleb Williams to own the Bears offencePhoto by Kara Durrette/Getty ImagesBen Johnson’s message during OTAs was clear: he wants Williams to take charge, to control the line of scrimmage, and to communicate with authority. That is a shift away from talk about physical tools or playmaking ability. Johnson is asking Williams to run the offence with confidence and consistency. For a young quarterback, that is a far more meaningful challenge. The next step is not about highlight plays. It is about making the routine parts of the offence run smoothly.Caleb Williams has already earned the right to be pushed harderWilliams’ 2025 production gives Johnson a serious platform. He threw for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while adding 388 rushing yards and three rushing scores. The clearest sign of progress was the sack total falling from 68 to 24. That is not a minor detail. It points to better protection, better timing and better quarterback management. This is why Johnson’s warning lands as a positive. The Bears are not asking Williams to become talented. They are asking him to become exact. That is the right standard. If Williams is going to carry Chicago forward, the next stage has to be precision, command and weekly control.Read more:John Harbaugh finally steps in between Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart controversy over Donald TrumpJameis Winston sparks fan debate after weighing in on Jaxson Dart’s Donald Trump introductionWhat George Kittle would be willing to accept if the NFL ‘bumped up’ payments for players

Real Madrid can re-sign 3 players for just €23m this summer
Real Madrid can re-sign 3 players for just €23m this summerLa Liga giants Real Madrid could take advantage of a trio of cut-price buyback clauses to reinforce their first-team ranks for next season. This comes amid confirmation that Los Blancos are keeping a close eye on the situations of all of Nico Paz, Jacobo Ramón, and Víctor Muñoz.All three, of course, previously spent time developing in Real’s famed Castilla academy. The former pair went on to link up with Serie A outfit Como, with the call having already been made to activate youngster Paz’s €9 million buyback option.Defender Ramon, meanwhile, is also fresh off a fine season in Italy. The lack of options at the heart of defence in Madrid could in turn convince the Bernabéu hierarchy to make use of his bargain €6 million clause. And last up comes attacker Muñoz. After a solitary season plying his trade with Osasuna, the 22-year-old is now an established Spanish international, considered one of the standout wingers in La Liga.Real Madrid activating their €8 million option to bring Muñoz back for next season is therefore considered a real possibility. As per Marca, incoming manager José Mourinho’s squad could in turn be reinforced in three important positions, for a total of just €23 million.Conor Laird – GSFN

Kemp inspires England to win over India in Bristol
Freya Kemp starred with 39 off 13 balls for England and then 2-15 with the ball [Getty Images]Second T20, BristolEngland 168-5 (20 overs): Kemp 39* (13); Sree Charani 3-25India 142-9 (20 overs): Bhatia 33 (36); Kemp 2-15England won by 26 runsScorecardFreya Kemp breathed life into England's preparations for the T20 World Cup as they levelled their series against India with a 26-run victory in Bristol. After being outclassed in the first T20 on Thursday, England were pedestrian with the bat until Kemp took 24 from the last over to finish 39 not out from 13 balls. That lifted England to 168-5, a total that had looked well beyond them just two overs earlier, though India were still well placed at 70-1 in the ninth over of their chase. But Kemp, only just returning to bowling after more than a year of back injury restrictions, came to the fore again by having the classy Smriti Mandhana caught at deep square leg for 32.Her wicket sparked an impressive fightback from England's bowlers as they first halted India's scoring through Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone and then claimed a flurry of wickets. After India retired out Yastika Bhatia for 33 from 36 balls – the first instance of the tactic being used in a women's T20 between full member nations – Kemp had her replacement Jemimah Rodrigues caught with a slower ball.Needing 39 from the last two overs, India crumbled to 142-9Though parts of the batting remain a concern and England also dropped two catches, the win is a significant boost to England as they build towards their opening match of the World Cup at Edgbaston on 12 June.Rather than facing a dead rubber after another demoralising defeat, they can now clinch the series in a decider in Taunton on Tuesday.England's Kemp never considered future during injury woeWomen's T20 World Cup 2026 squads Kemp proves worth to EnglandIn the end, the margin of victory was convincing in England's favour. For long periods, a heavy defeat looked far more likely.Kemp played her part in the bowling fightback but that, in truth, was a team effort. India also stumbled in disappointing fashion. The boost the 21-year-old all-rounder, who has been plagued by back injuries in recent years, gave to the batting innings was almost single-handed, however. She hit as many boundaries in the final two overs as the previous 11.Kemp, after coming in at number six with England 116-4 in the 17th over, only faced 13 balls but hit four fours and two sixes. Her strike-rate of 300 was the highest by any England woman in an international innings of 20 or more runs and showed what England have been lacking.Their inability to hit sixes was laid bare in Chelmsford on Thursday and for the first 18 overs here. Some will question whether Kemp should come in earlier, perhaps ahead of former captain Heather Knight who made 18 from 14, but here she completed her role perfectly, validating coach Charlotte Edwards' call to back her despite an injury-hit career.Fightback masks other issuesBefore Kemp's assault, Sophia Dunkley, who has a high score of 26 in five knocks for England this season, was caught behind for 10, having already been dropped on nought.Danni Wyatt-Hodge failed to inspire meaningful increase in scoring at the top after returning following the birth of her child as she made 29 from 25 balls, and while Knight offered more intent amid debate over her place in the side her high score in seven matches for England this summer remains 28.England took only 34 runs from the powerplay – a number India bettered by 15 with Shafali Verma looking dangerous in striking five fours before being caught at cover.Mandhana stroked the ball beautifully but after she was dismissed, India fell away badly.Bhatia, who batted excellently for 54 for Thursday, could not get going – nor India's returning captain Harmanpreet Kaur.Credit must go to Dean, who conceded only two from the 13th over with her canny off-spin. Ecclestone was hit for 11 in her first over but her third, on the back of Dean's, cost only one. There was a run of 18 deliveries without a boundary and India could not get going again. They will be a rival to England for the title next month so this win should not be underestimated.Notifications, social media and more with BBC Sport

NFL Insider Says Trade Framework Is In Place For Patriots To Land A.J. Brown
NFL Insider Says Trade Framework Is In Place For Patriots To Land A.J. Brown originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer sparked excitement among Patriots fans on Friday night when he said his understanding is that the framework is in place for a trade for A.J. Brown."My understanding is there is a framework in place for a trade to be made early next week that will make A.J. Brown a Patriot," Breer said on NBC Sports Boston. "The exact terms, I think, there are some things to be worked out there, but it would sort of take someone backing out at this point, whether it's the Eagles or the Patriots, for it not to happen.""I think it would sort of take someone backing out at this point... for it not to happen." 🚨via @AlbertBreerhttps://t.co/PDqg71NYcdpic.twitter.com/VP3IVKHlxf— Patriots Coverage on NBCS Boston (@NBCSPatriots) May 30, 2026It always seemed likely that the Eagles would trade Brown to the Patriots after June 1, as Philadelphia would only face a $16 million dead cap hit this season instead of $43 million. It’ll be interesting to see what trade package the Patriots send to the Eagles. It seems likely that a first-round pick will be included in the deal going back to Philadelphia. The big question is which year the first-round pick will be. Many teams are hesitant to part with their 2027 first-round picks since this draft class could be one of the deepest in years. Perhaps the Patriots are planning to offer the Eagles a 2028 first-round pick instead, ensuring they still have a first-round selection available for next year's draft.More NFL: Why An NFL Analyst Thinks Patriots-A.J. Report Cuesta to continue at Parma, club happy with first season
Report Cuesta to continue at Parma, club happy with first seasonParma and former Arsenal assistant manager Carlos Cuesta are reportedly ready to continue together after a strong first season. The coach was an entirely unexpected choice last summer, as he had no previous experience in the main job.He had worked only as an assistant manager at the Juventus youth team, their Under-23 Next Gen side, and then under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal from 2020 to 2025.Cuesta had strong Parma debutPARMA, ITALY – AUGUST 30: Carlos Cuesta, Head Coach of Parma Calcio looks on during the Serie A match between Parma Calcio 1913 and Atalanta BC at Stadio Ennio Tardini on August 30, 2025 in Parma, Italy. (Photo by Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Getty Images)It proved to be a more than positive campaign, as Parma amassed 11 wins, 12 draws and 15 defeats, allowing them to comfortable secure Serie A safety in 12th place. There had been some reports that the club wanted to see someone more creative and with a pro-active style of football, as Cuesta had carried on the Arteta approach of defence and safety first. However, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano insists Parma are very happy with Cuesta and prepared to keep him on for next season. The tactician only turns 31 in July, making him younger than many of the players in his squad. His contract runs to June 2027, so no new agreement is required, only to keep the current status.

Ranking ACC head coaches post-spring: Swinney dethroned, Cristobal soars
Clemson enters the 2026 college football season as one of the ACC’s biggest storylines, but the conference as a whole has plenty of intrigue when it comes to its head coaches. From Clemson legend Dabo Swinney, one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport, to a pair of first-year head coaches still settling into new jobs, the ACC features a wide range of leadership entering the fall. Miami enters the season with plenty of momentum, but the battle behind the Hurricanes should make for one of the conference’s most compelling storylines this year. The ACC has taken plenty of criticism nationally over the last few seasons, but that hasn’t stopped the conference from staying relevant on the national stage. Miami reached the College Football Playoff and played for a national championship last season without winning the ACC title, which only added more attention to the league heading into 2026.With several programs chasing conference title contention and others trying to take the next step, there’s plenty to debate when it comes to the conference’s sideline leadership heading into the fall. Here’s how all 17 ACC head coaches stack up entering the 2026 season.No. 17: Tavita Pritchard, Stanford Cardinal Pritchard spent years with Stanford before taking over for the Washington Commanders as their quarterback coach in 2023. He’s now back but as the Cardinal head coach. We’ll see what he can do.No. 16: Tosh Lupoi, Cal Golden Bears Lupoi was Oregon’s defensive coordinator from 2022 until this past season, doing a great job for head coach Dan Lanning. He lacks head coach experience so like Pritchard, he ranks at the bottom.No. 15: Bill O’Brien, Boston College EaglesI genuinely thought Bill O’Brien would do a good job at Boston College. It’s still early, but he’s not recruiting as successfully as I thought he would and the product of the field is lacking. The former NFL head coach has a lot to prove in the ACC.No. 14: Bill Belichick, North Carolina Tar HeelsSeeing Belichick this low on any coaching rankings would feel insane just two years ago, but it makes sense now. UNC was brutal in his first season as head coach going 4-8, but that doesn’t mean it can’t change. Something just feels off about this situation.No. 13: Fran Brown, Syracuse Orange I’ve never been a big fan of Fran Brown and last season was validating for me. I’d say it’s tough to argue against Brown having already peaked at Syracuse. After finishing at the bottom of the ACC at 3-9 last season, my expectations for Brown and Syracuse remain very low.No. 12: Mike Norvell, Florida State SeminolesAnother coach I never truly understood any hype around, Norvell has proven to be just a decent head coach. No matter how you feel about FSU, that’s a program that should be near the top of college football. He has done a mediocre job running that program. No. 11: Jake Dickert, Wake Forest Demon DeaconsI’ve got a good feeling about Dickert at Wake Forest. Washington State ended up becoming a mess, but that wasn’t really his fault. A fresh start proved great for both Dickert and Wake Forest, as he had the Demon Deacons at 9-5 in 2025.No. 10: Pat Narduzzi, Pitt Panthers Narduzzi is part of the old guard. He’s been with Pitt for years and his ranking in the middle just feels right. Any given year he can be higher or lower.No. 9: Dave Doeren, NC State Wolfpack Doeren is the classic good, not great coach. Don’t get me wrong, he’s very capable… he’s just been there for a decade and yet to hit double-digit wins. I’m not saying double-digit wins are easy by any means, there’s just been hype around him and this program from time to time and when that hype is there, they fall short.No. 8: Tony Elliott, Virginia Cavaliers Tony Elliott and UVA broke out in 2025. Second in the ACC and an 11-3 record, Elliott finally found his footing with the Cavaliers. He’s earned his way up these rankings. No. 7: Manny Diaz, Duke Blue DevilsACC CHAMPION DUKE BLUE DEVILS?! It still sounds crazy. Last year Diaz was my preseason pick to win ACC Coach of the Year, and he barely lost it to a deserving Tony Elliott. Diaz has done great work early in his tenure at Duke. No. 6: Brent Key, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Brent Key is a great head coach. He’s done an awesome job at Georgia Tech over the past few seasons, making this team truly competitive. It feels like any time they step on the field, they can compete. I’m a big fan of Key.No. 5: Rhett Lashlee, SMU MustangsGoing 38-16 in his tenure at SMU, Lashlee burst into the ACC and helped lead the Mustangs all the way to the College Football Playoff in 2024. That alone could push him higher up this list, but I’m not fully sold yet. I want to see on more consistent year before Lashlee moved any further up these rankings.No. 4: Jeff Brohm, Louisville Cardinals I love Brohm as Louisville’s head coach because he knows how to build a winner. He’s brought consistency, toughness, and real excitement back to the program. It feels like Louisville is on the verge of something big with him leading the program. We might even see it this year.No. 3: James Franklin, Virginia Tech Hokies Listen, I get that people like to rag on James Franklin for his tenure at Penn State. He never truly got it done, even when he had the talent to do it. Virginia Tech is a program that has been screaming for help. The fall off has been tremendous, and they turn to Franklin to fix it. With a collegiate head coaching record of 104-45, Franklin know show to win… The Hokies needed someone who knows how to do it. No. 2: Dabo Swinney, Clemson TigersNo matter how much I love Dabo Swinney as a coach and what he’s done for the Clemson football program, he is no longer the top coach in the ACC. Going 7-6 last season a year removed from a College Football Playoff appearance with on paper, a far better team than the year prior… it just doesn’t sit well.I’ll go even further. I truly believe there are multiple head coaches in college football who would have had Clemson as a playoff team once again in 2025, Swinney just wasn’t that guy.Is Swinney still among the elite, one of the best coaches in college football? Absolutely! Does he still deserve the No. 1 spot based on history? Unfortunately, no longer. No. 1: Mario Cristobal, Miami HurricanesI was never a huge fan of Cristobal, but the guy has proven me wrong. Miami was outstanding last season and even the year before. I was all over the Hurricanes being a pretender as a National Championship contender last season and was proven very wrong. After a National Championship appearance and the clear favorite in the ACC in 2026, Cristobal has earned the top spot.Contact us @Clemson_Wire on X, and like our page on Facebook for ongoing coverage of Clemson Tigers news and notes, plus opinions. This article originally appeared on Clemson Wire: Ranking ACC head coaches post-spring: Dabo Swinney falls, new No. 1 emerges

Seeking his first win of the year, Joaquin Niemann shares lead at LIV Golf Korea
Joaquin Niemann won five times on LIV Golf last year. This year, he's winless. The 27-year-old Chilean star is looking to change that at LIV Golf Korea, where he shares the lead with Talor Gooch after three rounds. But victory doesn't seem to be top-of-mind for the man nicknamed Joaco. Instead, he just wants to hit the ball well. “Last year was an exceptional year. Winning five times, it was pretty cool,” said Niemann, whose seven total LIV Golf wins are the most of any player in the league's five-year history. "It's obviously a nice feeling to win, and we're out here for that. But I'm just more focused on what I'm doing now and the way I'm hitting the ball, just trying to keep chasing that trajectory that I'm seeing in my head, so that's what I need to do.”What he's doing is working through 54 holes at Asiad Country Club in Busan, South Korea. Niemann fired a 4-under 66 in the opening round, followed it up with a 69, then posted another 66 in the third round to get to 9 under. He credited a hot putter for his stellar outing Saturday.“Putter did behave a lot better today than the first two days, so pretty happy about that,” said Niemann. “It did love me a lot. I did love it a lot, too.”Gooch, meanwhile, made 17 pars and one birdie for a 69 Saturday, just one day removed from pouring in eight birdies en route to a 7-under 63 in the second round. “You've got to stay patient and just wait for your time and hope that it comes, and it unfortunately didn't come much today,” said Gooch, who's seeking his fifth career win on LIV Golf. “But that's why we stay patient. Maybe tomorrow it'll come.”One shot behind Niemann and Gooch at 8 under is Scott Vincent, who's looking to secure his first LIV Golf victory. The 34-year-old Zimbabwe native was relegated from the circuit in 2024 but earned his way back by finishing atop the season-long International Series standings last year. “Winning out here is not easy,” said Vincent, who entered the week coming off two straight top-10 finishes. “I think just big picture-wise, just putting myself in this position is just great for me, try and get better and develop as a player.”To win in Korea, Vincent will not only need to overtake Niemann and Gooch, but he'll also have to hold off a trio of major champions lurking close behind. Cameron Smith is tied for fourth at 7 under, just two shots off the lead, while Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson are part of a tie for sixth at 6 under. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: LIV Golf Korea: Joaquin Niemann, Talor Gooch share 54-hole lead

'They Are All Losers' — Donald Trump Fires Back At Jaxson Dart's Critics After Giants QB Faces BacklashNew York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introduced President Donald Trump at a rally in New York on May 22. The appearance drew immediate backlash, most notably from teammate Abdul Carter, whose since-deleted post calling out Dart generated a lot of chatter on social media.Dart faced reporters during Friday’s open OTA session to address the situation, and now Trump himself has come out to defend the Giants quarterback.Donald Trump Calls Jaxson Dart a “Winner” and Points to QB’s Surging Jersey SalesIn a post on Truth Social, Trump offered a full-throated defense of the 23-year-old quarterback.“Thank you Jaxson! It was great being with you,” Trump said. “I know you’re taking some heat from the Radical Left Lunatics who are jealous of you, me, and everyone who surrounds us but, l also know that your Jersey also went to Number One, and you’re making Millions of Dollars so, YOU ARE A WINNER – THEY ARE ALL LOSERS. I’ll see you in the White House!”Unfortunately, a message from the president doesn’t make things easier for Dart inside the Giants’ facility. The rally, Carter’s response, the team meeting, and Trump’s public support have turned a small moment into a storyline that has dominated the team’s entire OTA period. For a franchise that went 4-13 last season and hired John Harbaugh as the new head coach to change the culture, this is the opposite of the clean start they needed heading into 2026.Take a Quick Break. Run a Mock Draft! Before you keep reading, jump into the shoes of the GM of your favorite team.Powered by PFSN's NFL Mock Draft SimulatorDart showed enough as a rookie to give Giants fans genuine hope, throwing for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns with just five interceptions while adding 487 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, Dart posted an impact score of 76.3 last season, ranking 18th in the league.BE AN NFL GM:PFSN’s Ultimate GM SimulatorDart’s dual-threat ability and competitive edge were a major reason Harbaugh found the job so attractive. However, talent alone won’t settle the noise around him.The only thing that will quiet the critics and unite a locker room navigating political fault lines is winning football games. Dart has to deliver on the field in his second season because if the Giants stumble early, every headline from this offseason will resurface, and the rally will be the first thing his detractors point to.

Champions League controversy as Arsenal benefit from handball decisions
Champions League controversy as Arsenal benefit from handball decisionsArsenal got off to the dream start in the UEFA Champions League final as Kai Havertz fired them into the lead against Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest. The German playmaker got a clear run through on goal after a failed clearance bounced off Trossard, giving him a one-on-one opportunity with goalkeeper Matvey Safonov. It was relatively similar to the chance he got in the 2021 final when he scored against Manchester City as Chelsea won the competition for the second time in their history, and the end result was the same.Havertz waited and waited for a teammate to make a run into the box, but when no one showed he rifled the ball over the keeper’s head and into the roof of the net in the sixth minute.Champions League controversy as Arsenal benefit from handball decisionsReplays, though, showed that the ball had hit Trossard’s hit in the lead up to the goal. VAR did not overturn the goal, which was ultimately the right decision as it was completely unintentional and impossible to avoid given how close he was to the ball.PSG did, however, have reason to feel aggrieved later when another handball incident occurred in Arsenal’s box.Bukayo Saka attempted to clear the ball from a PSG corner in the 16th minute, but he fluffed his lines, missing the ball entirely with his leg before it bounced off his arm and then off his hand.PSG players called for a penalty, but referee Daniel Siebert evidently felt that it as accidental and not worthy of a spot kick as he ignored their protestations. The VAR agreed, as no action was taken. It was a controversial decision as similar incidents have resulted in penalties in the past, but Arsenal could breathe a sigh of relief. The Gunners did a great job of shutting down PSG’s attack in the first half and deservedly held onto their slender lead going into the break, although they were complaining when the halftime whistle went.Saka took his sweet time taking a corner deep as the game passed the six minutes of allotted stoppage time, so the referee blew his whistle in frustration at the north London outfit’s time wasting antics.Cristhian Mosquera was booked just 60 seconds after the restart for taking too long with a throw-in, setting a precedent for the second half.Read – PSG vs Arsenal: Past meetings and head-to-head recordSee Also – Five of Arsenal’s best ever Champions League winsArteta – Arsenal need to ‘go to the next level’ in Champions League finalFollow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | YouTube | TikTok

How the Baltimore Ravens' offensive identity could evolve in 2026
The Baltimore Ravens have built one of the NFL's most successful offenses around Lamar Jackson, a dominant running game, and a physical identity that often featured heavy personnel packages and a fullback. That formula is beginning to evolve, and it'll be no more. Speaking on the C4 and Bryan Nehman Show, general manager Eric DeCosta offered perhaps the clearest glimpse yet into how Baltimore's offense could look under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. The Ravens are not abandoning their roots. They still expect to run the football effectively and leverage one of the league's most dynamic quarterbacks. But the structure of the offense appears poised to change."Formationally, I think you'll see us in three and four wide receivers, probably a little bit more," DeCosta said. "We won't be using, as you alluded to, a fullback."That statement alone represents a significant shift. For years, Baltimore utilized fullback-heavy formations that often signaled run concepts before the ball was snapped. Doyle's offense appears designed to create more uncertainty for opposing defenses. Instead of relying on predictable personnel groupings, the Ravens plan to feature multiple tight ends, spread formations, and interchangeable skill players capable of executing a variety of assignments."The idea would be really to create sort of a surprise element to the offense where defenses really don't get a sense of what we're trying to do in any given play," DeCosta explained. Veteran tight end Durham Smythe recently echoed that philosophy, noting that many of Baltimore's new concepts are designed to look identical before the snap, forcing defenders to diagnose plays after the ball is already in motion. The personnel moves support that vision.Baltimore used the 2026 NFL draft to add wide receivers Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane, two prospects known for their physicality and ability to win contested catches. Rather than targeting pure speed, the Ravens prioritized receivers capable of making difficult plays in traffic and converting critical third downs and red-zone opportunities. The approach gives Jackson additional answers when throwing into tight coverage.Early offseason practices suggest the quarterback is already developing chemistry with both rookies. While spring workouts rarely provide definitive conclusions, the early connection reflects a broader effort to expand the passing game's flexibility. The offensive line is another factor.DeCosta expressed confidence in tackles Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten while praising the development of Baltimore's guard position. The Ravens still need to resolve questions at center after failing to land their preferred targets during the draft, but DeCosta made it clear the organization is exploring additional options through free agency and potential trades. If the offensive line holds up, Baltimore could feature a more aggressive passing attack than in previous seasons. That possibility has fueled optimism surrounding Doyle's arrival. The 29-year-old coordinator learned under Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, two offensive minds known for creating matchup advantages through formation diversity and personnel flexibility. The blueprint is becoming increasingly clear. More spacing. More versatility. More disguise. More opportunities for Lamar Jackson to attack defenses from multiple angles. The Ravens believe they have assembled one of the NFL's deepest collections of offensive talent. Now they are building a system designed to maximize it.If the transition succeeds, Baltimore's offense could be one of the league's most difficult units to defend in 2026.This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Baltimore Ravens embracing new offensive identity under Declan Doyle

Video: Dembélé Sends Arsenal Goalkeeper The Wrong Way to Level Champions League FinalThe first 45 minutes of the UEFA Champions League final couldn’t have gone worse for Paris Saint-Germain.The reigning champions went down 1-0 to Arsenal in the sixth minute after Kai Havertz scored a sensational goal over Matvey Safonov. The rest of the first half was a defensive clinic from Arsenal. They put their whole team behind the ball and showed why they were the best defensive team this season in the Champions League. However, PSG would not be denied. In the 61st minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was brought down in the box by Cristhian Mosquera, who was already on a yellow card. After a VAR check, PSG was awarded the penalty. Now, if you have been following PSG this season, you’ll know that they’ve struggled with converting penalties, but Ousmane Dembélé left no doubt on the equalizer.PSG is looking to win back-to-back titles while Arsenal have yet to hoist the most coveted trophy in club football. The goal will likely force Arsenal out from their defensive low blow and the game could open up in favor of PSG.

Trump plans to appeal order allowing all importers that paid struck-down tariffs to seek refunds
In this Nov. 9, 2018, file photo shoppers look at televisions at a Walmart Supercenter in Houston. (AP Photo/David J. Phillip, File)2026-05-30T16:40:16Z NEW YORK (AP) — Businesses big and small have started receiving tariff refunds after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump lacked the constitutional authority to impose higher import taxes on goods from nearly every other country. The process could grind to a halt, however, after the Trump administration said Friday that it intended to appeal a federal judge’s order to allow all companies that paid the invalidated duties to seek refunds, not just the ones that filed lawsuits.Until the Department of Justice informed the judge of its planned appeal, the refund system overseen by U.S. Customs and Border Protection had been working fairly smoothly. Refunds reached the bank accounts of the first successful applicants on May 12, about three weeks after importers and their customs brokers could start submitting claims through an online system, according to CBP. Applications for refunds totaling $85 billion — more than half of the $166 billion the agency estimated the government owes to companies that paid the tariffs on imported goods — were accepted for processing as of May 22, CBP reported in a legal filing earlier in the week. It said it had so far directed the Treasury Department to issue $20.6 billion in refunds. The administration revealed its appeal preparations while objecting to a demand by Judge Richard K. Eaton for CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott to appear in the U.S. Court of International Trade to answer questions about how long it would take to repay all 330,000 importers that might be eligible for refunds. The judge has scheduled a June 9 hearing on why he shouldn’t require the government do whatever it takes to speed up the process. Read More Justice Department lawyers asked Eaton to allow one or two of Scott’s deputies to appear in his place, arguing that as a high-ranking presidential appointee, the CBP chief could not be compelled to testify in court. They also argued that Eaton exceeded his own authority when he determined in March that the Supreme Court’s ruling entitled “all importers of record’’ to refunds. “For that reason, defendants intend to appeal the court’s universal injunction,” the lawyers wrote, adding that CBP would continue to move “as quicky as it can to process refunds in a phased approach” for businesses that filed some 485 pending trade court complaints to assert their rights to refunds. In a terse reply Friday, Eaton said he needed to hear directly from Scott whether the government would return all of the money it collected between when Trump put what he called “reciprocal” tariffs on most countries in April 2025 and when the Supreme Court struck them down in late February. “This case involves $166 billion,” the judge wrote. “It is undisputed that the remedy for this unlawful collection is for the United States government to refund the unlawfully collected duties.”Some national retail chains said they planned to use their tariff refunds refunds to lower customer prices on some items. Walmart Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey told analysts last week that the company would implement price cuts even though the maximum refund it might be eligible for represented less than half of 1% of Walmart’s $483 billion in annual U.S. sales. Some smaller companies told The Associated Press that the partial refunds they’ve received so far would go toward paying remaining or future tariffs, reducing debt or just keeping the lights on after more than a year of uncertainty and additional import costs. Jay Foreman, CEO of toy company Basic Fun, said he received about $450,000, or 7% of his total claim, over two consecutive days this month. He took the initial repayment as a positive sign but said that after having less than $10,000 refunded since then, the process seemed like a “total slow roll.” “It’s time to release the funds back into the economy, especially given how much we and others need these funds to support our businesses and fund our operations,” Foreman said. MAE ANDERSON Anderson reports for The Associated Press on a wide range of issues that small businesses face. She is based in New York. twitter mailto

What your golf fit says about you: Sun Day Red
There’s no getting around the fact that if you wear Sun Day Red, a lot of people are going to see you as a Tiger Woods fanboy.Your attitude: So what?Like Tiger, men who wear Sun Day Red are obsessed with details. Not in a loud way, but in a deliberate, almost academic way. They appreciate the snaps instead of buttons on polos, and the lack of labels or tags that itch the back of your neck. They like the tiny, strategically placed ventilation holes in polos and shorts that most people never notice but absolutely make a difference on hot days.Guys who wear Sun Day Red don’t view that label as an insult, and they know its accurate. Not only do they understand that each of the 15 stripes in the logo represents one of Tiger Woods’ 15 major championship wins, but they can also probably recite each of those victories in chronological order. They’ll also correct you when you try doing it and get one wrong.Nothing is accidental, and that’s the appeal. The Sun Day Red guy drives something a little sporty like a red Mazda MX-5 or an Infiniti QX60. He enjoys blackjack because it rewards focus and math, and he loves the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing. Forget Bandon Dunes or Sand Valley. His bucket-list courses include Riviera, Torrey Pines, and St. Andrews—places tied directly to Tiger’s story and legacy, not just golf’s.When it comes to drinks, Michelob Ultra is safe bet for a Sun Day Red guy, but don’t be surprised if he’s holding a protein-infused hazelnut latte, because protein matters and he once heard Tiger likes extra-hot hazelnut lattes. A guy who wears Sun Day Red is probably considering a Spartan Race, eats Chipotle more often than he wants to admit, and thinks nothing of planning a knee-scraping CrossFit workout the morning after the annual 36-hole police benevolent association golf outing.More than anything, wearing Sun Day Red gives guys a sense of quiet confidence. Throwing a cashmere hoodie over a clean white logo T-shirt and heading to brunch will do that. You look sharp, pulled together, and modern. You’re wearing a logo that people who understand golf, history, and details will recognize, while posers won’t.That’s the idea: Tigers don’t concern themselves with the opinions of sheep. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: What your golf fit says about you when you wear Sun Day Red

Will Thunder's Ajay Mitchell return from injury in Game 7 tonight?
The Oklahoma City Thunder are known for the tremendous depth general manager Sam Presti has built over the years. It's now being tested. Ajay Mitchell, a key Thunder reserve, will miss Game 7 with a right calf strain. The injury occurred during Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals and he hasn't played since. He doesn't appear to have a timetable to return. While OKC will miss Mitchell, he isn't the biggest absence the team is facing with a hungry San Antonio Spurs squad awaiting tonight. Jalen Williams, a third-team All-NBA selection a season ago, is also out. J-Dub is dealing with a hamstring strain he tried to play through in Game 6 without much success. The injuries put more on the plate of two-time MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who struggled mightily in a 118-91 loss in Game 6. As for Mitchell, it's unfortunate timing for a player who ascended into one of Mark Daigneault's trusted role players in his second NBA season. He doubled his scoring and assist averages in Year 2 and started 16 games after only making one start as a rookie.Mitchell and Williams will watch from the bench as the Thunder fight to keep their championship repeat hopes alive tonight. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Ajay Mitchell injury update: Will Thunder guard return for Game 7?

Mourinho wants Real Madrid to re-sign another ex-academy gem apart from Nico Paz – report
Mourinho wants Real Madrid to re-sign another ex-academy gem apart from Nico Paz – reportAccording to journalist Miguel Serrano, incoming Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has identified Osasuna winger Victor Munoz as a key signing for his new project, intending to trigger the club’s buyback clause to bring the academy graduate home. The Portuguese tactician views the 22-year-old as an essential asset whose versatility and explosive pace are a perfect fit for the plans he has for the team. The strategic buyback clauseMunoz, a La Fabrica graduate, was sold to Osasuna last summer on a five-year contract in a deal that saw the Pamplona club secure 50% of his rights. Mourinho wants Munoz back. (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)Crucially, Real Madrid inserted a strategic safety net into the agreement: a buyback option set at €8 million for this summer, which rises by €1 million for the next two years – similar to the deal for Nico Paz, who is set to return to the Bernabeu imminently. Now, as per the report, Mourinho has requested that the board activate this clause immediately, seeing it as a low-risk, high-reward market opportunity to reinforce the team’s depth with a player who already understands the club’s values.Tactical versatility and impactMourinho’s interest is driven heavily by Munoz’s impressive adaptability across the pitch. Munoz to return to Real Madrid? (Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images)The manager believes the player can operate effectively on both wings and possesses the physical attributes to be successfully converted into a full-back or wing-back in future tactical setups. This assessment follows a breakout season at El Sadar, where Munoz recorded six goals and two assists in 34 La Liga appearances, consistency that even earned him his debut goal for the Spanish national team. While rival clubs like Barcelona have shown interest, Real Madrid hold the decisive advantage. With the €8 million option significantly lower than his release clause, the club could be poised to execute Mourinho’s wish and secure the forward’s return.

Notre Dame and Texas Tech… yeah go ahead and schedule that football game
SOUTH BEND, IN- APRIL 25: Young fans enjoy the on field action during the Notre Dame Spring game on April 25, 2026 at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN. (Photo by Jeffrey Brown/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images Joey McGuire and Texas Tech got back in the Notre Dame conversation again this week after news about there being a possibility the Texas Longhorns may not end up playing the Irish in their scheduled games.First of all… McGuire is a phenomenal salesman/promoter right now. Seriously — regardless of any comments made that might cast Notre Dame in a negative light, he’s putting on his Red Raider suit and sneaking into the Notre Dame conversation like a real bandit. I respect the hell out of that. Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire: If Texas doesn’t want to play Notre Dame, we’ll play in 28/29.— Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer) May 28, 2026So… if Texas backs out of its games with Notre Dame, should the Irish immediately call Texas Tech? Should the Irish schedule Texas Tech anyways? It’s a game that has never been played before, and it does help open more ND vs Big 12 games for the future (which they should probably do a little more of if we’re bring honest). Mark me down as someone who want to schedule the game regardless. At least Texas Tech is taking football and winning seriously — or at least trying to.Sound off in the comments below.

Coco Gauff’s French Open title defense ends in defeat to Anastasia Potapova
PARIS — Coco Gauff’s French Open title defense ended Saturday, on the court where she collapsed to the clay a year ago as the winner of a second Grand Slam title, a capacity crowd exploding for her, the biggest star in the sport triumphing on one of its biggest stages once again.Fifty-one weeks later the scenes on Court Philippe-Chatrier could not have been more different as Anastasia Potapova, the Russian-turned-Austrian who has blasted her way back to relevance this spring came back from a set down to outlast Gauff on arguably her best surface, 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 on a strange evening in tournament’s main stage. While Gauff and Potapova battled, PSG, France’s top soccer team, faced off against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League Final. That sucked most of the ticket-holders and nearly all of the life out of the stadium. Instead of having throngs lifting her up in the match’s crucial moments, the action unfolded in front of wide swaths of empty wooden seats.Still, for a stretch in the middle of the match, it looked like Gauff was going to steam into the second week of the tournament. After losing her serve in the first game of the match, Gauff surged past Potapova from 2-4 down, reeling off four games to take the first set.In the second set, she fell behind 1-5, with Potapova holding two chances to serve out the set. Gauff caught fire once more, winning five straight games. With Potapova serving at 5-6, Gauff got within two points of the finish line, but the Austrian held off the charge. Suddenly with room to breathe, Potapova sprinted through the tiebreak, winning 7 of 8 points, as Gauff sprayed errors every which way.It didn’t take long for Gauff to recover and take control of the third set. She went up 3-1, as Potapova seemed to lose the life in her legs. Once more though, Gauff couldn’t finish her off, a problem that has dogged her throughout the clay-court swing and which she has mostly overcome until now.Given her high expectations and status as one of the two best clay-court players in the world, it had been a strange couple of months.Illness and Linda Nosková knocked her out of the Madrid Open in the middle of the tournament. She made the finals at the Italian Open, but lost to Elina Svitolina. Then came Paris, the challenges and pressure of defending a title and a third-round scrap against a talented player playing as well as nearly anyone the past month and brimming with confidence.Gauff looked up to the challenge for much of the tussle, forcing Potapova to take the initiative if she wanted to win. For most of the match, she couldn’t do it.But then, at 4-5, a double fault and a poor drop shot got Potapova to match point. Gauff took a big cut at her first forehand. It clanked off the rim of her racket and into the half-empty stands, and her title defense was over. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Tennis, Women's Tennis2026 The Athletic Media Company

Do Seahawks need rookie RB Jadarian Price to have big season in 2026?
Some rookies enter the NFL with mounting expectations to perform at a high level out of the gates, while others are eased into prominent roles on their respective teams over time.Seattle Seahawks rookie Jadarian Price approaches his first season in the NFL with pressure to perform as the team’s starting running back, with star RB Zach Charbonnet slated to begin the 2026 season on the shelf due to a torn ACL. According to NFL.com’s Gennaro Filice, Price is one of 12 rookies in the NFL who need to succeed in their first season in the league. Seattle will rely on Price to handle the lion share of carries in the ground game for a good portion of the season until Charbonnet returns. The Seahawks have much at stake in 2026 as the defending Super Bowl champions. Seattle was the third highest-scoring team in the league in 2026. The Seahawks ranked No. 10 in the NFL in rushing yards last season with 2,096 and No. 7 in rushing touchdowns with 19.Price will be tasked with playing at a high level to help maintain the strength of the Seahawks’ balanced offense in a season that will once again come with Super Bowl expectations in 2026. His excellent play at Notre Dame in 2025 is an indicator of his capability to record high volume yardage next season. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Seahawks need rookie RB Jadarian Price to have big impact in 2026

‘One of the best batters in the world’: Shubman Gill's bold declaration on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has delivered perhaps the biggest endorsement yet of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's extraordinary IPL 2026 season, describing the 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter as "one of the best batters in the world" in the T20 format.Gill's praise came on the eve of the IPL final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, less than 24 hours after the two players starred in a thrilling Qualifier 2 clash. While Gill's magnificent 104 guided Gujarat to a seven-wicket victory and a place in the final, it was Sooryavanshi's breathtaking 96 that once again captured attention. The teenager signed off from the tournament with 776 runs, including six scores of fifty or more, a strike rate of 237.30 and an astonishing 72 sixes. He also produced back-to-back playoff masterclasses, following a 29-ball 97 in the Eliminator with a 47-ball 96 against Gujarat.Reflecting on Sooryavanshi's remarkable campaign, Gill admitted he had rarely seen a batter dominate attacks in such a fashion."The kind of season he's had is remarkable. I've not seen anyone bat like the way he bats."The Gujarat skipper then made a bold assessment of the teenager's standing in the shortest format."I think in this format probably, he's, right now, one of the best batters in the world."Gill believes Sooryavanshi's success is driven by far more than his ability to clear the boundary ropes. According to him, the youngster's unique biomechanics and exceptional bat speed set him apart from most players."It's not just hitting those boundaries, but his biomechanics and his hand speed no matter what opposition he plays against."Sooryavanshi once again showcased those qualities in Qualifier 2. After Gujarat's pace attack struck early and prevented him from getting off to a flying start, the teenager rebuilt the innings and kept Rajasthan in the contest with another fearless display. 131411359Gill said that ability to adapt and fight back under pressure stood out as much as the runs themselves."Today he didn't get off to a flyer, but still the way, how he managed to come back into the game kept putting us under pressure, so that just tells you about the mindset that he has."The left-hander eventually fell for 96 after following up his 97 in the Eliminator, narrowly missing out on centuries in successive playoff matches. Even so, his innings helped Rajasthan recover to 214/6 after an uncertain start.Gill believes the challenges posed by Sooryavanshi are only going to grow for bowlers in the years ahead."I think, in the years to come, the opposition that he plays against is going to have a tough time against him."Sooryavanshi's stunning campaign has earned praise from across the cricketing world, and Gill's comments add another glowing endorsement to a season that has rewritten expectations of what a 15-year-old can achieve at the highest level of franchise cricket.

Coaches go ballistic when Kai Asakura says they're getting his UFC Macau bonus
Given he hasn't had a two-paycheck fight in 30 months, Kai Asakura was perhaps surprisingly generous with his first three-paycheck bout in the UFC.Asakura (22-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on Saturday knocked out Cameron Smotherman (12-7 MMA, 1-3 UFC) less than two minutes into their fight with an utterly vicious punch that had Smotherman on the canvas, wide-and-glassy eyed, no doubt wondering what just happened. And for that, Asakura got not only his show money and win bonus, but an extra $100,000 as one of the two Performance of the Night bonus winners at UFC Fight Night 277 at Galaxy Macau. The win Asakura's first in the UFC. He arrived in late 2024 as a highly touted Rizin champion and had an immediate flyweight title fight against Alexandre Pantoja, but was submitted in the second round. Title shots in UFC debuts are about as rare as it gets in MMA.In his follow-up to that in August 2025, he was upset as a 3-1 favorite by former title challenger Tim Elliott for an 0-2 flyweight start in the UFC.Saturday, Asakura was back at bantamweight, where he thinks he belongs, and the result was brutal for Smotherman. Not so brutal? Asakura's coaches were told while he was on the phone learning he got a $100K bonus that he was gifting it to them.Check out their enthusiastic response below.朝倉海🗣️「ボーナスはコーチたちに配ります😁」@kai_1031_#UFCMacau🏟️ #GalaxyArena | #GalaxyMacaupic.twitter.com/9uWDlTpmtB— UFC Japan (@ufc_jp) May 30, 2026This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC Macau video: Kai Asakura gives $100,000 bonus money to coaches

Amed Rosario is in uncharted territory
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI - MAY 26: Amed Rosario #14 of the New York Yankees hits a two-run home run against the Kansas City Royals in the first inning at Kauffman Stadium on May 26, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Ed Zurga/Getty Images) | Getty Images If you asked me what the highlight of Tuesday’s 15-1 drubbing of the Royals was, I’d pick Cam Schlittler’s casual six-inning, one-run start. But a close second would be Amed Rosario’s four-hit, two-homer performance. Ok, it’s important to note that his second homer came against a position player on the mound, poor old Tyler Tolbert. However, there was nothing flukey about the rest of his performance; he was scalding balls all day, with all of his hits having exit velocities exceeding 100 mph. Seriously, just look at all this hard contact:View LinkAt first, I thought this was just another entry in the annals of “random backup infielder has great game offensively”. (You will always hold a place in my heart, Jayson Nix on April 7, 2013 against Justin Verlander.) But then I looked at Rosario’s FanGraphs page and did a double take – the man’s running a 130 wRC+! Granted, it’s only been 31 games and 97 plate appearances, which is far from a representative sample size. Rosario has had 31-game stretches where he was even hotter in the past. If I had to choose between “Amed Rosario is a middle-of-the-order bat now” and “this is just a hot streak”, I’m choosing the latter every time. However, there’s one crucial detail that gives me pause; the shape of his production is totally new. Rosario’s .261 ISO this year represents not only a career high for him, it’s the highest mark he’s run over any 31-game stretch in his career, ever. That seems to me like it’s a sign that something has changed with him. There’s also the matter of his platoon splits. Rosario owns a career 121 wRC+ against southpaws and a 84 wRC+ against righties. So, surely his hot hitting so far this year is because he’s being shielded against same-handed pitching, right? Not really, as it turns out. Of Rosario’s 97 plate appearances this year, 52 have come against lefties and 45 against righties – basically an even split. Of course, since lefties only make up less than a third of MLB pitching, having only 50% of your plate appearances come against righties means that you’re being platooned. However, the fact remains that about half of Rosario’s PAs have come against righties this year. His wRC+ against them? It’s the exact same as his line against left-handers – 130. Uh, I thought he was supposed to be a platoon bat? This level of performance against righties is unprecedented for Rosario. Unfortunately, FanGraphs’ Player Graphs function doesn’t support L/R splits for wRC+, but for our purposes wOBA works just fine. See if you can spot the year that is unlike all the others in this graph:So, Rosario is hitting for more power than ever, and he’s hitting righties better than ever. How is he doing it?The first question is easier to answer: Rosario is swinging the bat harder than ever. That seems to have something to do with his power surge, doesn’t it? Case in point: StatCast’s bat tracking metrics go back to 2023. That year, Rosario’s fast swing rate – defined as the percentage of swings at 75 mph or faster – was 15.2%. In 2024, it was 16.7%. In 2025, it was 29.9%, which was already a pretty big increase. This year, it’s 44.0%. Over the course of four seasons, Rosario’s gone from swinging hard about as often as Luis Rengifo to Bryce Harper. I guess that’ll help you hit the ball harder. But what about his disappeared platoon splits? Does swinging faster more often automatically make you a more well-rounded batter? I, uh, have some doubts about that.Ultimately, I can’t point to a clear-cut reason as to why Rosario is suddenly hitting righties as well as he hits lefties this year. I do, however, have a theory. After many hours of grueling research (read: I floated this topic on the PSA slack and Peter gave me this link), I happened upon this tweet from Driveline Baseball:Amed Rosario's bat path transformation from 2025 to 2026 pic.twitter.com/UFe3uB65Dx— Driveline Baseball (@DrivelineBB) April 24, 2026Don’t be fooled by the formatting of the twee. The most revealing video, at least in my mind, isn’t the big one on the left but the bottom right one, showing Rosario’s 2025 (blue) and 2026 (red) swing trajectories from various angles. In particular, pay close attention to the bird’s-eye view graphic. Notice how Rosario’s 2026 bat path starts off at a markedly lesser angle than its 2025 counterpart, and remains close to parallel to the front of home plate throughout its voyage through the strike zone? My theory is that this revamped bat path has allowed Rosario to perform well against pitches from right-handers which break away from him, alleviating his platoon splits. It has been found by past baseball research that pitches that break away from same-handed hitters result in the largest platoon splits. It seems that righty pitchers have taken this to heart when facing Rosario; they’ve fed him more and more breaking balls in recent years, with more gloveside horizontal movement. How do you combat this? Well, one way, it seems to me, might be to “flatten” your bat path as Rosario is doing in 2026 – trying to keep the barrel of the bat as parallel to the front of home plate as long as possible. This would increase your chances of making better contact with, say, sliders spinning away from you, especially if you’re able to catch them out in front of the plate. Lo and behold: it’s still an extremely small sample size, but Rosario’s xwOBACON against breaking pitches from right-handers is by far the highest of his career. Can Rosario sustain this level of performance going forward? I can’t say for certain. But it’s at least very encouraging that there seems to be real, tangible changes in his approach that are fueling his early-season performance. Keep an eye out for Amed Rosario – he might be playing a bigger role in this Yankees lineup in the coming weeks.

    Cowboys 2026 roster rundown: S P.J. Locke
KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 25: P.J. Locke #6 of the Denver Broncos looks on from the sideline during the national anthem prior to an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on December 25, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images) | Getty Images There will be a lot of new faces on the Cowboys defense this year, but only one of them has history with our new defensive coordinator. Safety P.J. Locke’s time working with Christian Parker in Denver helped bring him to the Cowboys, and gives him a huge advantage in Dallas’ upcoming training camp.BackgroundYears in NFL: 7Acquired by: Free agent (2026)Locke’s career actually began in Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie in 2019. He was waived at final cuts and didn’t land on the Steelers’ practice squad, or anyone else’s, for most of that year. Finally, in mid-December, the Broncos signed him to their practice team. Locke again didn’t make the 53-man roster in 2020 but was on the practice squad, and got called up for their first game. He wound up playing in 15 games that year as a core special teamer, leading Denver in ST snaps. In 2021, Locke’s second year in Denver, Christian Parker was hired as the defensive backs coach. During Parker’s three years with the Broncos, Locke transitioned from being just a special teams ace to a defensive role player. He started eight games at safety in 2023, earning high marks for his play and being rewarded as a full-time starter in 2024, the year Parker left to join Vic Fangio in Philadelphia. In Denver’s playoff loss to Buffalo that year, Locke suffered a spinal injury that required a rare fusion surgery. He was able to come back and play in 16 games in 2025, with three starts, but his performance dipped. He became a free agent this offseason and quickly agreed to a deal to rejoin Parker in Dallas.Contract StatusYears Left: 12026 Cap Hit: $3.97 millionLocke got nearly $4 million on his one-year deal but with $1.5 million guaranteed, so there is some wiggle room for Dallas depending on the summer goes. But like Jalen Thompson and Caleb Downs, Locke feels like part of a concerted effort to reshape the safety room from past regimes. His contract suggests some kind of role going forward.2026 ProjectionsRole: Backup DBRoster Chance: 90%We learned last year that familiarity with the defensive coordinator doesn’t mean you’ll play well, but it does help with job security. Hopefully, Locke has better results than Jack Sanborn did. But while Sanborn may have been unsuited for the starting MLB spot that he played, Locke seems to be in Dallas to fill a very similar role to what he had in Denver. He should fit right in as a rotational safety with slot corner flexibility, plus likely special teams work. When Dallas signed Thompson and Locke last March, they had no idea they’d also wind up with Downs in the draft. And with Malik Hooker and Markquese Bell still around, it’s now a very full group at safety. If the Cowboys only want to keep four of them, it may come down to Locke or Bell. But that would probably be bad news for Bell, who now faces legal issues on top of being a holder from previous coaching staffs and schemes.Still, Dallas may very well keep all five. Because of that slot ability that Downs, Locke, and Thompson all possess, it could allow the Cowboys to go shorter at cornerback. But in either scenario, Locke still feels like a very safe bet to make the 53 and help Parker bring his vision to this defense.Check out our previous player profiles from this series:C Cooper BeebeG Tyler BookerS Alijah ClarkEDGE Donovan EzeiruakuTE Jake FergusonS Malik HookerWR Jordan HudsonLB Shemar JamesG Trevor KeeganFB Hunter LuepkeRB Phil MafahQB Joe Milton IIIWR Jonathan MingoCB Devin MooreLB DeMarvion OvershownLS Trent SiegWR Anthony SmithOT Terence SteeleCB Reddy StewardDT Jay ToiaEDGE Tyrus WheatEDGE Sam Williams

Teenager Moïse Kouamé’s French Open run ends in third round defeat
PARIS (AP) — Teenager Moïse Kouamé's French Open run ended when he lost to Alejandro Tabilo 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (9) in the third round on Saturday. The 17-year-old Kouamé saved four match points but his resistance was finally broken when he fluffed a shot at the net. He walked around the net to hug his Chilean opponent.Just like in the previous two matches, he entertained a raucous home crowd with his combination of whipped forehands down the line, sharp volleys at the net and improbable retrieves from the back of the court.Kouamé, ranked 318th, has been quite the showman on his Grand Slam debut, and unleashed two big downward fist pumps after winning the first set. When he broke to level at 4-4 in the fourth set the crowd rose to their feet. But he could not withstand Tabilo's relentless accuracy and waved goodbye to the fans at Court Suzanne-Lenglen. ___AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis

Trump vents about judge who blocked the Kennedy Center renovation and fumes over his legal setbacks
The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts is seen in Washington, Friday, May 29, 2026. (AP Photo/Cliff Owen)2026-05-30T18:28:45Z WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Saturday branded the federal judge who blocked his renovation of the Kennedy Center as “an anti Trump Hater” and predicted that the nation’s premier performing arts center he wanted to shutter for a two-year overhaul will “soon be closed, probably never to open again.”In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, Trump fumed about the Friday decision from U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper who also ordered Trump’s name removed from the center. Clearly angered by his latest legal setback, he said it was “impossible for me to be treated fairly,” tying Cooper’s ruling to earlier losses, including the Supreme Court’s rejection in February of his sweeping tariffs. His post aimed to make the case for the project but did not clarify whether he would continue to defend it in court. Hours after Cooper’s decision, Trump said he was backing away from the renovations and making arrangements to relinquish control to Congress of what, until the Republican president’s second term, had been known as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The White House did not immediately clarify his position or say whether he would keep serving as the center’s board chairman. Without offering evidence, Trump suggested that Cooper’s wife, lawyer Amy Jeffress, was to blame in part for the ruling. The president noted that Jeffress, a partner at the Hecker Fink law firm, is a former federal prosecutor who served as a counselor to Attorney General Eric Holder during the administration of Democratic President Barack Obama. Cooper was nominated for the bench by Obama. Read More Trump also noted that Hecker Fink is representing former President Joe Biden in a lawsuit against the Department of Justice to block the release of audio recordings and transcripts from the Democrat’s interviews with a ghostwriter that were obtained in an investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents from his time as a senator and as vice president. Trump asserted that the Kennedy Center, named for the late Democratic president and opened in 1971, was “rusted, rotted, and rat and bug infested” and that the ”new Building would have been incomparable.”Cooper said in his ruling that the center board’s March 16 vote to close the venue was “ill-informed and seemingly preordained” with no regard for its legal obligations. The administration had announced the work would begin in July and last approximately two years. Cooper’s ruling halts those plans for now.The judge also found that the board “overstepped its statutory bounds” by adding Trump’s name to the center. Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it, he said. Cooper ordered that Trump’s name be removed within two weeks.Trump on Saturday said it was the board, not him, that added the Trump name to the center. “They thought it would be good for this dying Institution,” he wrote.Shortly after returning to office in January 2025, he ousted the center’s previous leadership and replaced it with a handpicked board of trustees that named him chairman. Cooper held hearings in late April for parallel lawsuits challenging the project. One lawsuit was filed by a group of cultural and historic preservation organizations. The other was brought by Rep. Joyce Beatty, an Ohio Democrat who serves as an ex officio member of the board through her position in Congress. He ruled in favor of Beatty’s request but rejected the other challenge.Trump, in his post, also noted that Jeffress’ firm represented E. Jean Carroll, the longtime advice columnist who has said Trump sexually assaulted her in a New York department store 30 years ago.Jeffress did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
