Rajat Patidar breaks silence on India's T20 captaincy, sets sight on back-to-back IPL titles
TimesofIndia.com in Ahmedabad: Rajat Patidar stands on the brink of history. A victory over Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad will make the Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper only the third captain after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win back-to-back Indian Premier League (IPL) titles."I've never thought about what another captain has done before, and whether I want to compete with someone or not. I've never thought about that," he told reporters here."And as an individual, my journey has been a rollercoaster. I've never focused on that. Wherever I am, I focus on what I can do best."I've never thought about moving forward or going back. If I'm here, I'm just focusing on what I can do before the final. Tomorrow is the final, so we'll try to give our best," he added.Having guided RCB to their long-awaited maiden crown in 2025, Patidar now has the chance to cement his place among the league's most successful leaders on the biggest stage.Patidar played a belligerent 33-ball 93 against GT in Qualifier 1 and propelled his team to a thumping 92-run win.Patidar's stock has risen significantly in recent times, and the swashbuckling batter from Madhya Pradesh, who will turn 33 in a couple of days, is increasingly being viewed as someone who could lead India in T20Is.However, the right-handed batter, who has played three Tests and a solitary ODI for India, is yet to make his debut in the game's shortest format. On the eve of the final, he dismissed questions about both national selection and any ambitions of captaining India."I'm not looking forward to any selection regarding India. So, I'm not looking forward to it," he said when asked about an India call-up.On India's captaincy, Patidar said: "I don't visualise being the T20 captain of India. But at the same time, every captain wants to win trophies." 131411684Patidar joined RCB in IPL 2022 as a mid-season replacement for the injured Luvnith Sisodia. He ended IPL 2022 with 333 runs from eight innings at an impressive strike rate of 152.50. Among his standout performances was a breathtaking 112 off 54 balls against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator. Though RCB's campaign ended in the very next game, he carried his rich vein of form with a fluent 58 in Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals. A few weeks later, he capped off his dream run by smashing a match-winning century for Madhya Pradesh against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy final.IPL 2022 turned out to be a game-changer for Patidar. In IPL 2025, he was handed the captaincy of RCB, a franchise that had never won the trophy. They had come agonisingly close multiple times but had never managed to lift the title. After winning one title and standing on the brink of another, Patidar is not looking at the past."Last year we did it, but again it's a new season. You cannot keep talking about 2025 and what we did. You have to be more in the present and do whatever best you can do to win the title," he said."I don't think we changed anything or are thinking differently. We are in the same mindset. But as I said earlier, we are not here to defend anything with the mindset of defending champions. We have an opportunity to win one more title."We have to keep that sort of mindset that we are here to win the title, not defend anything that we did in 2025. It's a new season and a new opportunity to do it again in 2026."He also pointed to the cultural change within the RCB setup, which was once heavily dependent on one or two players."Earlier, there were one or two players the team depended on. But now every player is taking responsibility when he goes out to bat or bowl," Patidar said."So I think the word 'responsibility' is the main thing that every individual is thinking about. Responsibility and being eager to contribute to the team."And having the same mindset that we are not here just to play qualifiers. We are here to play finals and win finals. So I think that mindset has changed." 131410798

President Trump responds to uproar over Giants QB Jaxson Dart's appearance at rally
Discussions over New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introducing President Donald Trump at a rally last week aren’t quite finished.President Trump responded to the uproar over Dart’s introduction in a post on social media on Saturday, thanking the Giants quarterback for his appearance and claiming that the criticism directed toward both of them (and all of the president’s supporters) is based in jealousy. Trump went on to tout Dart’s popularity among his supporters and the QB’s money-making potential, while deriding critics. The president also indicated that he would see Dart again at the White House at some point. Dart introduced Trump at a rally held approximately 40 miles outside New York City last week, which was noted by fans and observers. But Carter responded to the appearance on social media, questioning Dart’s decision to appear at the rally. Naturally, that prompted questions as to whether or not there was now division in the Giants’ locker room over political support and beliefs. However, Carter quickly responded to the developing narratives, telling fans that he and Dart spoke about the matter and were “good.” The Giants met for organized team activities this week, where Dart told reporters that he addressed his teammates while they were together in a statement to the media.Dart acknowledged that “politics can be a sensitive matter,” which he needs to consider as someone playing the featured position for an NFL team playing in the New York market and the scrutiny that comes with such status.Carter followed up by saying there were no issues between him and Dart. New Giants head coach John Harbaugh also commented on the situation with reporters, saying that it presented “a really good opportunity” for players from various backgrounds to learn and establish how they interact with each other, in addition to the public.

🚨 PSG retain UCL crown with penalty shootout win over Arsenal
🚨 PSG retain UCL crown with penalty shootout win over ArsenalParis Saint-Germain have won the 2026 Champions League final on penalties after the scoreline was all square after 120 minutes. The deadlock was broken early doors in Budapest as Kai Havertz broke forward on the break before unleashing an effort into the roof of the net inside the opening five minutes.PSG dominated possession from then on, but struggled to break down Arsenal's impenetrable defence for the remainder of the first half.It was much the same in the second, but PSG's dominance eventually paid off as Cristhian Mosquera was penalised for a foul on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé then made no mistake from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.The two teams couldn't be separated after 30 minutes of extra-time, so penalties were needed to decide this year's winner - the first time they've been required in a decade. After a tense shootout, in which Eberechi Eze, Nuno Mendes and Gabriel all missed their spot kicks - it was PSG who ultimately emerged victorious. It was a historic night for the French champions, as they retained their European crown.

Player ratings as PSG squeeze past Arsenal in nerve-shredding Champions League final
Player ratings as PSG squeeze past Arsenal in nerve-shredding Champions League finalParis Saint-Germain sneaked past Arsenal in a dramatic Champions League final at the Puskas Arena to win a second consecutive European title.Kai Havertz, who unexpectedly got the nod ahead of Viktor Gyokeres, fired the newly crowned Premier League champions off to a dream start, breaking the deadlock after just six minutes. The German forward picked up a loose ball nearly the halfway line and proved too quick for Marquinhos, who couldn’t catch him. More importantly, he kept his cool to beat Matvey Safonov from an acute angle with a thumping finish.Arsenal immediately dropped back to protect their slender lead in a classic Mikel Arteta fashion, allowing PSG to take complete control of the game, with Les Parisiens boasting a remarkable 77% possession in the first half. However, Luis Enrique’s side failed to find a way to unlock the Gunners’ deep block. They generated a disappointing 0.34 xG in the opening 45 minutes while making just a single attempt on target.PSG could create anything from open play, yet Cristhian Mosquera helped them fight back, taking down Khivcha Kvaratskhelia in the box. Ousmane Dembele made no mistake from the spot to pull Les Parisiens level.Dembele’s strike was enough to take the game to extra time, where Arsenal thought they should’ve been given a penalty for Nuno Mendes’ reckless tackle on Noni Madueke, only for Daniel Siebert to wave play on.With nothing to separate the sides after 120 minutes, penalties were required to crown a champion, with PSG keeping their cool in the shootout to become the second team after Real Madrid to defend their Champions League title.Paris Saint-Germain (4-3-3)Matvey Safonov (6/10) – It was anything but a busy night for the Russian goalkeeper, but whether he could’ve done better to stop Havertz from scoring remains debatable.Nuno Mendes (6/10) – With Arsenal playing behind the ball for most of the game, didn’t have to worry about Bukayo Saka. However, didn’t do anything noteworthy in the final third.Willian Pacho (8/10) – Had a relatively comfortable evening as Arsenal failed to muster any attacking threat after taking the lead.Marquinhos (7/10) – Atone for a sloppy clearance, which led to Havertz’s goal, with a superb last-ditch defending to thwart the German’s close-range effort.Achraf Hakimi (6/10) – Largely unchallenged defensively, the Moroccan had plenty of freedom to venture forward, though his final touch frequently let him down.Fabian Ruiz (6/10) – Heavily involved in the build-up play, the Spanish midfielder unleashed one ambitious half-volley at the tail-end of the first half.Vitinha (7/10) – The beating heart of Enrique’s engine room was pulling all the strings in the middle of the park. Had one superb shot from the edge of the box, but it finished on the roof of the net.Joao Neves (7/10) – His work rate was nothing short of phenomenal, providing endless energy both in and out of possession.Khivcha Kvaratskhelia (8/10) – Despite enjoying plenty of possession, the Georgian superstar struggled to impact proceedings from the left wing. Still, he drew a game-changing penalty.Desire Doue (6/10) – Displayed some fancy footwork on a few occasions, albeit without the end product. Apart from a wayward long-range effort midway through the first half, he never came close to troubling Raya.Ousmane Dembele (7/10) – PSG desperately needed their standout performer to provide a spark after falling behind, yet nothing went the Frenchman’s way in the first half. Nevertheless, converted a crucial penalty.SubstitutesBradley Barcola7/10Goncalo Ramos4/10Warren Zaire-Emery6/10Illia ZabarnyiN/ALucas BeraldoN/AArsenal (4-2-3-1)David Raya (7/10) – His first save of the game was a bit clumsy, but he grew into the contest as the final progressed.Cristhian Mosquera (3/10) – Fared outstandingly against Kvaratskhelia up until he gave away that mindless penalty. Received a silly yellow card for time wasting at the start of the second half.William Saliba (8/10) – A standout performance from the French centre-back, who dealt with Dembele expertly, completely neutralising the reigning Ballon d’Or holder.Gabriel Magalhaes (7/10) – Once again dominated his opponents in the air, cutting off PSG’s aerial threat with another commanding display at the heart of Arteta’s steely backline.Piero Hincapie (7/10) – Made up for a lack of speed with excellent positioning to fend off Doue. Nowhere to be seen in the attacking third.Declan Rice (8/10) – His composure on the ball and ability to retain possession in tight spaces often gave Arsenal a much-needed breathing room.Myles Lewis-Skelly (6/10) – Invisible in the offensive part of the game. Fully committed to helping his defence endure a game-long siege.Bukayo Saka (2/10) – A near-anonymous performance from the Arsenal talisman, who had absolutely no impact on the game whatsoever.Martin Odegaard (4/10) – Speaking of zero impact, the Norwegian playmaker was a largely marginal figure, in part due to Arsenal’s approach.Leandro Trossard (5/10) – Like his counterpart on the opposite wing, the Belgian forward spent much of the game on the fringes.Kai Havertz (8/10) – Arsenal’s best attacking player by a mile. In addition to the goal, he often created havoc in the penalty area.SubstitutesGabriel Martinelli5/10Noni Madueke7/10

Get to know the new Lobo: A few questions with junior college transfer AJ Pierre-Jerome
Lobo hoops transfer portal trackerThe Journal is keeping tabs on all offseason roster moves for the Lobo men’s basketball team — who is leaving, who is returning, who hasn’t decided — on its Transfer Portal Tracker (CLICK HERE).AJ Pierre-Jerome, a 6-foot-9 forward transfer from Butler Community College in Kansas signed in mid-May to play for the 2026-27 UNM Lobos. The big man averaged 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds and blocked 32 shots in 35 games this past season and has a history of playing above the rim and should add needed depth to the Lobo front court. The Journal reached out to Pierre-Jerome to ask a few introductory questions. The following are his answers via a text exchange.• • •JOURNAL: What about coach Eric Olen's system made you want to play for the UNM Lobos?PIERRE-JEROME: Coach Olen's system is great! During my recruitment process, Olen and the staff talked about how my game fits well with their style of play. My ability to protect and score in the paint is an aspect they were really intrigued about. I'm super excited to be playing for a program that really takes pride in sports, and (has) the support from the community.• • •JOURNAL: I'm told you have twin sisters who also hoop. Be honest — who's the best basketball player in your family? And if I asked them the same question, who would they say is the best?PIERRE-JEROME: My sisters and I are super competitive. We always try to one-up each other in everything we do. If you asked them who was better, they would obviously say themselves, just like how I would. My sister's names are Amira Pierre-Jerome and Amaya Pierre-Jerome. Amira and Amaya play similarly, they just play different positions. Amira is really good at catch and shoot 3s while Amaya is really good at ball-handling and playmaking.• • •JOURNAL: You've played with so many current college stars and NBA players over the years while attending Monteverde Academy. Who was the best?PIERRE-JEROME: I spent four years as a student athlete at Monteverde Academy. Throughout my basketball career, I've played with tons of notable players. The most recent I can remember was my past teammate, Emeka Opurum who went to Auburn.• • •JOURNAL: How has playing with some of the world's best players helped you in your development?PIERRE-JEROME: Throughout my basketball journey, playing with and against those types of players helped me become the player I am today.• • •JOURNAL: I see a lot of rim protection and dunking in your highlight reels. How would you describe your game on the court? And is there a player you would say you are similar to on the court or try to play like?PIERRE-JEROME: I describe my game like playing chess. I am a very unpredictable player. One thing people don't know about me is I play the game with IQ. I do the little things that help the team come out on top.I'm not sure who I can compare my game to, although I do like the way Giannis Antetokounmpo plays. He has a knack for not giving up on a play. I see glimpses of myself in the way he hustles and carries himself as a basketball player.• • •JOURNAL: Did you know much (or anything) about Albuquerque, New Mexico or the Lobos before being recruited?PIERRE-JEROME: I knew that Albuquerque was a city in New Mexico, but never experienced what it was like living here up until now. I knew that the Lobos are a great program ever since they made March Madness in 2024 and 2025.• • •JOURNAL: Do you know what a Lobo is?PIERRE-JEROME: A lobo is a wolf. I figured that out through seeing its logos.• • •JOURNAL: Do you know what you are planning to study at UNM? Do you know what you want to do after your playing career is over?PIERRE-JEROME: I will be studying mass communications and media at UNM. I don't know what I want to after my basketball career is over. All I know is that I want to have fun and be successful in the profession of my choosing.Get To Know A Lobo Series*Get to know the new Lobo: A few questions with transfer forward Tunde Vahlberg FasasiVersatile newcomer talks fit in Eric Olen's system and his connection to a former fan favorite.3 days ago*Get to know the new Lobo: A few questions with incoming freshman guard Dax HallThe younger brother of Lobo star Jake Hall is ready to show he's a DI talent26 days ago*Get to know the new Lobo: A few questions with transfer forward Imran SuljanovicSt. John’s transfer and Austrian forward Imran Suljanovic talks UNM fit, his NBA mentor, family rivalry and what Lobo fans can expect on the court.28 days ago*Get to know the new Lobo: A few questions with transfer guard Hudson MayesThe UC San Diego transfer talks Eric Olen, Hall of Fame roots, Major Payne and 'Uncle Mel'April 20, 2026*Get to know the new Lobo: Benjamin 'Beni' SchuchThe Austrian 'point forward' on why Olen, why UNM, why it's 'Beni' and what fans should expectApril 15, 2026Reach Geoff Grammer at ggrammer@abqjournal.com or follow him on Twitter (X) @GeoffGrammer.

People are delighted by Mel C’s “stunning response” to a question on speculation she’s gay
Folks online are delighted by Spice Girl Mel C’s response to a question on speculation around her sexuality in the nineties, when the Spice Girls were at the height of their fame. The exchange took place on the Mitch Churi Chat Show podcast earlier this month. Churi, who is gay, asked Mel, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, if she would “get accused of being gay” due to being the “sporty” member of the group. Related Trans rights advocates win a major court victory in Kenya “Well, I never called it an ‘accusation,'” Mel replied. “An assumption,” she said, was a better way to think about it. “Sorry, I shouldn’t say that,” he said, chuckling as he realized what his words implied. It was a quick and lighthearted exchange that left many impressed by Mel for making it clear she never felt it was an insult to be assumed to be gay. On TikTok, the comments section is filled with compliments. “queen reaction,” one person wrote. “this is how you respond as a true ally ,” said another, “her being confident in who she is! love that.” A third person called it a “stunning response,” and a fourth called her a “good person with [a] big heart.” But the conversation didn’t end there. Mel emphasized, “We love all of the community,” before Churi clarified that “the press were awful to you guys.” “You’ve got all the different ones, and the one who’s in the activewear, it was assumed – or suggested – that I was gay,” she replied. “And I don’t personally have a problem with that. I mean, it’s none of their friggin’ business, I just thought to base it on somebody’s look, or the way that they dress, it was a bit sh*t of them.” She added, “We did have an incredible following in the LGBTQ+ community. And we were like: ‘This is bigger than us.’” @themitchchurichatshow Full interview is yours to watch and listen via our bio now! #MelC #SpiceGirls #fyp #LGBT #Gay ♬ original sound – The Mitch Churi Chat Show Mel has addressed the speculation on her sexuality before. In 2001, she complained about British tabloids obsessed with her sexuality. “There’s been lots of things written about me that aren’t true,” she told the Irish Examiner. “The fact is I’m not gay, and they try and brand me a liar when the fact of the matter is that they’re the ones who lie. It makes me angry that they try to stereotype how a lesbian should look.” “When they first started was when I had short hair and I was quite muscular and I’ve got tattoos. They just said by my appearance that I’m a lesbian.” Twenty years later, she told The Times she’s no longer upset about the assumption. “I actually love that now because it gives me this affinity with the gay community,” she said. In 2021, she told Closer Magazine, “I work a lot with the LGBTQ+ community and I very much feel part of that community, even though I really don’t fit into any of those labels. But, I really don’t mind being called a lesbian.” In fact, she admitted, “There have been times in my life where I’ve thought, ‘I wish I was a lesbian.’” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Song Yadong vs true contender & 2 more fights to make after UFC Macao
After an off weekend, the UFC returned, as the MMA juggernaut headed to Macao, China, for UFC Fight Night Song vs Figueredo. The card started at 4 a.m. EST, with the main card starting at 7 a.m. EST. The main card featured some of the top talent in the Bantamweight and Heavyweight divisions. Song Yadong owns the day, securing one of the best performances of his career with his second-round submission against Deiveson Figueiredo via guillotine.MORE: UFC Macao results, Song Yadong makes strong statement with over former champUFC Macao notable resultsIn the Heavyweight division, Sergei Pavlovich secured another first-round finish, knocking out Tallison Teixeira 39 seconds into the first round. Pavlovich is now on a three-fight win streak and is looking more like the guy who ran through the division before running into Tom Aspinall. The next biggest Bantamweight fight on the card featured Kai Asakura finally finding that first UFC win and doing so in brutal fashion. Asakura got back to his Rizin roots, scoring a violent knockout of Cameron Smotherman. UFC Fight Nights always lay the groundwork for the biggest fights possible, and that’s no different today, coming off some impressive performances. Here are three fights to make after UFC Macao. MORE: Dana White earns TIME Magazine cover ahead of historic UFC eventFights to make next Feb 22, 2025; Seattle, Washington, USA; Henry Cejudo (red gloves) fights Song Yadong (blue gloves) in the bantamweight bout during UFC Fight Night at Climate Pledge Arena. Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn ImagesSong Yadong vs Cory Sandhagen-Mario Bautista winner Starting with the main event, the winner, Song Yadong, beating a seasoned former champion in Deiveson Figueiredo, is a huge win, and keeps Yadong as a viable contender at 135. After UFC Macao, Song Yadong will likely keep his spot in the rankings at No. 5. A fight with the winner of Cory Sandhagen vs Mario Bautista makes perfect sense for Song. Neither Sandhagen nor Bautista should earn a title shot after a win over the other. Either would likely need one more fight before ensuring a shot at the belt, which is exactly where Song is in the division as well. Song also has a history with Cory Sandhagen, losing to Sandhagen in a Fight Night main event via a doctor’s stoppage TKO. The first matchup was a lot of fun; there’s no reason it shouldn’t be again if they share the cage once more. Sergei Pavlovich vs Josh HokitApr 11, 2026; Miami, Florida, UNITED STATES; Josh Hokit (blue gloves) reacts after the fight against Curtis Blaydes (red gloves) during UFC 327 at Kaseya Center. Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn ImagesIn the Heavyweight division, it’s hard to find a matchup for Sergei Pavlovich where he doesn’t fight down again, being that he probably won’t get booked with Alexander Volkov again. The perfect next opponent for Pavlovich is Josh Hokit, who’s fighting at the UFC White House card in just over two weeks. Hokit has to take care of Derrick Lewis first, but the brash American with multiple personas would have a field day talking trash to the Russian Sergei Pavlovich, ideally on the main card of a PPV to close out the year. Kai Asakura vs Raul Rosas JrKai Asakura finally looked like the fighter fans were expecting when he was given a Flyweight title shot in his first UFC fight ever. Now, after a stellar debut at Bantamweight, a low-ranked opponent could be in play. Raul Rosas Jr is a perfect dance partner for Asakura. Rosas is a somewhat well-known name in the division and doesn’t have any claim to fight way higher in the division right now after beating an aging Rob Font. This gives Asakura an opportunity to get back into the UFC rankings, this time at Bantamweight, and Rosas an opportunity to build up his name and win streak even further, and solidify that he’s ready to fight up in the division. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —

Forget fatigue: The Knicks’ week-long break became a game-changing strategy
Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesHow the long break may affect the Knicks’ NBA Finals openerThe Knicks head into the NBA Finals with an eight-day gap between games, while the winner of Spurs-Thunder Game 7 has no time to catch their breath. This doesn’t just shift the conversation from rust to rotation; it also adds a tactical layer for how coaches approach their lineups early in the series.Recent history shows that teams coming off extended rest have struggled in this situation. Teams with six or more days off before Game 1 are just 3-11 against teams coming off a seven-game series. That’s a sharp contrast to earlier rounds, where rested teams tend to come out ahead more often than not.The most recent case happened just last year when Miami were swept by Denver after waiting nine days for that series to start. Miami didn’t look rusty and played competitive games early on, but ran out of steam as it wore on.That same fatigue factor showed up in 2019 as well, when Toronto had six days rest and beat Milwaukee, which had seven days rest, in five games. Despite both sides being fresh physically, Toronto took control late in the series thanks to better depth and roster balance overall.Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesRecent examples of rest vs fatigueKawhi Leonard was outstanding throughout that entire postseason run for Toronto after managing his workload carefully. That carried over when he led them past Golden State. Other recent examples include Golden State’s sweep of Portland in 2019, and Cleveland’s sweep of Atlanta back in 2016.In those cases, there wasn’t any visible rust either – it was simply one team being deeper than another over seven full games across two weeks or more between rounds played elsewhere first before tipping off again later down south somewhere around May/June every year.San Antonio’s 118-91 win over Oklahoma City on Thursday forced Game 7 on Saturday, May 30. The Finals open June 3 in either Oklahoma City or San Antonio, with the Knicks on the road regardless. That leaves the West winner three days between elimination pressure and Game 1. New York wrapped its sweep of Cleveland on May 25 and has eight days off before the opener. The impact of extra rest is a mixed bagLooking back over the past two decades, teams with more time off before the NBA Finals have an even 13-13 record. But when you dig into situations that match New York’s more closely, the numbers shift. Since 2000, teams coming into the Finals after exactly one week off are 4-0.However, those with eight full days off – like the Knicks – are 0-1 in that span. The only instance was the 2015 Cavaliers, who lost to Golden State while missing Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving. And over the past ten years, just one team has entered the Finals with a rest advantage of five days or more.New York has won 11 consecutive playoff games by double digits, outscoring opponents by a record 262 points during that stretch. The concern with an eight-day break is losing some of that offensive rhythm, even though they still managed to win after their previous extended layoff. If the rest advantage allows New York to lean into its usual rotation while the Western Conference champion deals with lingering fatigue and injuries, it could be a deciding factor. Oklahoma City has been without Jalen Williams for 39 of its past 52 games, and Ajay Mitchell remains out with a calf injury.San Antonio has had De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper working back in, with Harper coming off an 18-point Game 6 off the bench. New York needs the first two games to be played at its tempo, with cleaner closeouts, stronger legs on the glass and enough offensive timing to make a Game-7-tired opponent.Read more:Inside the playbook: San Antonio keeps using to hunt down the Thunder’s two bigsGregg Popovich’s locker-room mic-drop: What echoed through every Spurs defensive possessionHow Knicks turned every game into a possession bonanza against Cleveland

4 of 5 victims of Virginia bus crash were traveling to a family wedding, relative says
This photo provided by the Virginia State Police, shows the scene of a fatal accident involving a bus on Interstate 95 near Quantico, Va., on Friday, May 29, 2026. (Virginia State Police via AP)2026-05-30T19:00:30Z A family of four from Massachusetts who were killed when a bus crashed into multiple vehicles in Virginia were traveling to a wedding with a carload of homemade desserts for the celebration. The family wedding will go forward Sunday in South Carolina, but it also will be a time to mourn the loss of Dmitri and Ecaterina Doncev and their two children, Emily and Mark, a relative said Saturday.“A son, a father — the whole family — everyone that has been dear to us,” Carolina Bublik said. The Doncev family died early Friday when a motorcoach crashed into vehicles that had slowed down for a work zone on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia. A fifth person, a 25-year-old female from Worcester, Massachusetts, died in an SUV, authorities said.More people were treated for injuries, including one who was in critical condition, though most were discharged from the hospital, Mary Washington Healthcare said. A member of the National Transportation Safety Board planned to speak to reporters about the crash investigation Saturday. The bus was operated by E&P Travel Inc., based in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Virginia State Police identified the driver as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York. Dmitri, 45, and Ecaterina, 44, emigrated to the U.S. from Moldova in 2008 and settled in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Bublik said.Dmitri was a nurse who worked at Holyoke Medical Center. Ecaterina was a hair stylist who spent days making desserts for the family wedding, Bublik said. Read More Dmitri and brother Iuri tried to stay together while traveling in separate vehicles to South Carolina.“At some point they ended up getting separated,” Bublik said. “Dmitri said, ‘You go ahead. I’ll catch up later.’ It was a big shock when Iuri arrived at the house. Dmitri should have arrived around the same time. When his car did not show up, and he wasn’t picking up the phone — that’s when the family started panicking.”

Hall of Fame WR 'pained' by former QB helping Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins have benefited from having Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino around the building for years, but this offseason, they've brought in more help, as Hall of Famer Troy Aikman is also consulting for the team.Aikman played 12 seasons for the Dallas Cowboys from 1989-2000, winning three Super Bowls and making six Pro Bowls. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.Miami originally brought Aikman in to assist with their search for a new general manager, but he's still helping in some capacity, which has upset one of Aikman's former teammates.“It does pain me to see that,” Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin said during a recent appearance on the DLLS Cowboys podcast. “I mean, I think it’s criminal for any club not to try to glean as much as you can from a guy like Troy Aikman, whose job is to go and talk to teams and coaches and bring an understanding of what’s going on behind the scenes to the world.“He understands each thing that’s going on in your organization. There is no better place of information than to get from a guy like Troy Aikman, and Tom Brady is smart enough to be doing that and have part ownership into a team. I think that’s a hell of an advantage for Tom Brady. So yeah, absolutely, that hurts me.”Irvin even compared the situation to the Denver Broncos, who allowed John Elway to serve as general manager and eventually president of football operations after his playing career.“It pains me to see that happening because I know Troy wanted to do that,” Irvin added. “Troy wanted a John Elway situation here in Dallas, and I know he wanted it and certainly he’s earned it, but it’s not going to happen.“I rest my mind to that reality. I wish Jerry would at least have brought him in. He’s not certainly going to turn it over like they did in Denver. They turned it over to John. No, you ain’t getting it.”It's never bad to get opinions from multiple Hall of Fame quarterbacks, so the Dolphins are in a good position to have two consulting in some way or another.More Dolphins: Veteran defensive lineman says he wants to retire with the DolphinsThis article originally appeared on Dolphins Wire: Hall of Fame WR 'pained' by former QB helping Dolphins

📸 Class in the biggest moment! As everyone knows, the only thing worse than sore losers is sore winners. And that was exactly what the Brazilian was not. Marquinhos immediately rushed over to put his arm around his compatriot after this heavy blow. 📸 Richard Heathcote - 2026 Getty ImagesAlthough they were opponents on the pitch today, they will see each other again in just a few days with the Brazil national team. PSG edge Arsenal on penalties to retain Champions League title
Paris Saint-Germain edged Arsenal on penalties for the club's second Champions League crown in as many years (INA FASSBENDER)Paris Saint-Germain claimed back-to-back Champions League triumphs with a 4-3 shoot-out win over Arsenal following a 1-1 draw after extra time on Saturday, with Eberechi Eze and Gabriel missing from the spot.Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions showed great resilience to take the game beyond 120 minutes in Budapest, but fell to a second final defeat, 20 years after their first against Barcelona in 2006.Luis Enrique's side became only the second besides Real Madrid to win the competition in consecutive years in the Champions League era."We are so, so proud, so happy, so grateful," PSG winger Desire Doue told TNT Sports."As a team, as a family, I think we deserve that... look at the fans, we are so happy."PSG's first triumph was 55 years in the making, 14 of those under Qatari ownership, the second could start what they hope is an era of dominance and dynasty-building."It was Real Madrid and now it's us too," PSG midfielder Fabian Ruiz told Movistar."They defended all through the game and football is fair... today the right team won."Luis Enrique rebuilt the team swiftly and efficiently, removing the club's superstars and building a cohesive and committed attacking side, capable of shredding opposition with terrifying pace.It was the Spaniard's third Champions League triumph, making him one of only five coaches to complete a hat-trick -- the first coming with Barcelona in 2015.For a while it looked unlikely as Kai Havertz powered Arsenal ahead after six minutes but Ousmane Dembele's penalty midway through the second half took a tight game to extra time and ultimately spot-kick.Arsenal's Jurrien Timber was fit after a groin injury but his rust from over two months out led Arteta to deploy Cristhian Mosquera out of position at right-back.The coach also opted for Havertz in attack over Viktor Gyokeres, and for an hour it seemed like his calls would pay off.Luis Enrique selected 10 of the side which demolished Inter Milan 5-0 in last year's final as PSG finally lifted the trophy they so badly craved. In Arsenal's only prior final 20 years ago German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was sent off in the opening stages as they were defeated. They got off to a far better start at the Puskas Arena, with Lehmann's compatriot Havertz firing the Gunners ahead after just six minutes.Havertz, who scored the winning goal in Chelsea's 2021 Champions League final victory, could not believe his luck after Marquinhos's attempted clearance hit Leandro Trossard and bounced into his path. The forward galloped into open space behind PSG's defence and towards Matvey Safonov's goal. Havertz had a tight angle to overcome but rifled a strike into the roof of the net.It was the worst possible start for PSG against a miserly Arsenal side who had conceded just six goals on the run to the final.Their disciplined defending kept the Parisians at bay with consummate ease, as Luis Enrique's side controlled the ball but could not break through Arsenal's defensive bastion.Gabriel made an excellent last-ditch challenge to pick Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's pocket. The dynamic Georgian has been the tournament's best player but in the first half was not allowed room to breathe. The French champions appealed for a penalty when Bukayo Saka bungled an attempted clearance and the ball hit both his arms, but referee Daniel Siebert was unmoved.- Fighting back -PSG were reduced to frustrated pot-shots from distance and after the break moved the ball quicker to try and destabilise Arsenal's rearguard.Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya saved from Achraf Hakimi's bouncing free-kick before Kvaratskhelia finally had his say. After the winger's slick one-two with Dembele, Mosquera bundled him down in the box with a clumsy foul.Dembele sent Raya the wrong way with a low penalty to level, with PSG fans igniting several flares in celebration. It was their 45th goal of the competition, matching the all-time record.PSG almost set a new one when Kvaratskhelia hurtled down the left but teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly deflected his shot against the post.Substitute Bradley Barcola fired a fine chance wide on the break before extra time, as the French side threatened frequently, a tiring Arsenal suddenly giving them too much space. The Gunners pleaded for a penalty of their own when substitute Noni Madueke went down under pressure from Nuno Mendes, but it would have been harsh on the PSG defender whom the winger was pulling. To a shoot-out it went, with PSG confident after already claiming three trophies on penalties this season, and winning their last five. They also took the first spot-kick, and at the end in front of their own supporters.Arsenal blinked first, with Eze firing wide but Raya then saved from PSG's Mendes. Declan Rice drilled home to level at 2-2.After Lucas Beraldo put the Ligue 1 winners 4-3 up, Arsenal defender Gabriel was left with the fifth kick for his side and lashed it high over the crossbar to hand PSG the trophy.rbs/mw/jc

Did the 'Madden 27' cover athlete leak? What we know
Do we know now which NFL player is on the cover of Madden NFL 27? A leaked image on Saturday showed Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams as the cover athlete for this year's edition Madden NFL. Williams would make a ton of sense as the next Madden cover athlete, even if we can't confirm that this is real. This account, "MUTLeaks," also shows a possible College Football 27 cover featuring multiple folks, including Indiana coach Curt Cignetti and Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Bears fans may rush to get that preorder going with this possible leak, but we don't know for sure yet if Williams is on the cover or not. Morris/Sussex highlights from Group track and field championships
MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP — Anthony Agnoli was "feelin' it" at the Group 3 Track and Field Championships on Saturday, May 30. He made sure the crowd gathered around the shot put circle at Northern Burlington Regional High School was feelin' it too. After letting the shot put fly on his final attempt, Agnoli screamed, clapped, and then gave a fist pump before practically dancing around the sector to pick it up. The Montville senior won Group 3 with a final throw of 63 feet, 10½ inches. It was a four-foot personal best, his first time over 60 feet. After picking up his shot from the officials, Anthony rushed over to celebrate with his older brother Joe, younger brother Michael, and mom Michelle Agnoli. Anthony Agnoli had also won the Group 3 discus the day before, after fouling his first two throws."It felt really nice to finally get one over 60. I didn't expect to be that far over. It's insane," said Agnoli, who has signed a National Letter of Intent with Monmouth University. "They're clicking at practice. Over 60 was enough. I didn't expect to throw that far."The top two finishers in each event in each group automatically advance to the NJSIAA Meet of Champions, which will be held June 3 at Pennsauken High School. The next 18 across all the groups will earn wild cards, for a maximum of 30 competitors per event.West Morris girls piling up prizes againWest Morris added the Group 2 girls team trophy to its long list of titles this spring. Not satisfied with just being the Morris County Relays small-school champ, the Wolfpack swarmed the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference East meet, as well as the Morris County Championships. West Morris is also the North 2, Group 2 girls winner.Caroline Sardeira was first in the 400 meters (56.71) to get Saturday's meet off to a great start. She anchored West Morris to second place in the Group 2 4x400, sealing the team title. Junior Alanna Parkes was second in the Group 2 100 and 200 and third in the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Georgia Hostler was second in the long jump (18-¾). Sophomore Johanna Olsen finished third in the Group 2 discus, with Jefferson sophomore Gwen Silipena fourth (PR 116-1). "Last year, we were a really competitive team, but this year, it's on a whole other level," Sardeira said. "I'm really proud of the team. We're really super motivated. Everyone seems so much more determined. We wanted a result for what we've been doing."Morris County: West Morris girls, Morris Hills boys add to track championship haulVernon's golden girlsThe Vernon girls 4x100 — seniors Sophia Haw and Monica Curry, sophomore Samantha Janus and freshman Isabella Kuzicki — didn't quite meet all their Group 2 goals. The official time was 48.03 seconds, good enough to break the school and Sussex County record they'd set a week ago. But not quite under 48 seconds, not that it dimmed the celebration for long. "Being part of the 4x1, especially such a great 4x1, for me it's so special," Haw said. "I hope (the younger girls) are excited to get in here next year. We're setting a good record for them to go after."More: Vernon's Samantha Janus voted Morris/Sussex Athlete of the WeekLearning to flyAt the start of track season, High Point junior Gabe Elston's goal was to finish in the pole vault top 15. After clearing 14 feet to tie the school record and win Group 2, Elston said, "I've exceeded my expectations."Elston took three additional attempts at a new personal best of 14-6, going up to a stiffer pole "to shoot myself to higher heights." His revised goal at the MOC next week is to clear 15 feet and finish in the top three. On Saturday, Morris Hills senior Gianna Ledford cleared 11 feet to finish second in Group 3 and also move on to the MOC pole vault."I came down here, do what I know how to do, and execute," Elston said. "It's a bigger meet. It means a little more. Being around people who are really good makes it a better time. I like competition. I like the nerves of having to beat someone else."Moving on to Meet of ChampionsRyan Foley was relieved as he crossed the finish line in the NJSIAA Group 3 800 meters. He was way ahead of the field in his heat, and he also managed to keep his queasy stomach in check.Foley, a Mount Olive senior, won the event and will move on to the MOC. He's already looking forward to challenging himself against the top runners from all over New Jersey."I'm happy I put it together," said Foley, who signed a National Letter of Intent with Bryant University in Rhode Island. "I took off from training (on Thursday) to stay hydrated and eat well. I came back feeling a little better. I guess I prepared well."More: Morris Hills boys, West Morris girls make history at NJAC East meet➤ Rohan Tucker will have a chance to defend his MOC 200-meter title. Tucker, a Madison senior, won the Group 2 200 and 400 on Saturday. He was also third in the 100 on Friday. ➤ The Group 3 boys 1,600 could have been a flashback to the Morris County Championships, just shorter. Chatham senior Marcus Valenzuela led the field in 4:13.73, followed by Morris Hills senior Nicholas Falcone and Morris Knolls senior Sean Wemmlinger.Falcone had won the Group 3 3,200 on Friday afternoon. ➤ Montville freshman Gabriella Pelov won the Group 3 1,600 (5:05.98) by nearly three seconds. This article originally appeared on Morristown Daily Record: Morris/Sussex highlights from Group track and field championships

It would be nice to be a game above .500 after today’s game. The Jays have a new member of the constantly evolving bullpen. Hayden Juenger is the latest contestant. Today’s lineup. No Lips today. He’s in a bit of a slump, with 2 hits in his last 16 at bats and his average has dropped from .313 to .277 in his last six games. Slumps happen. I’m sure he’ll pull out of it soon. Celtics Trade Idea Sends Jaylen Brown To Warriors In Compelling Package
Celtics Trade Idea Sends Jaylen Brown To Warriors In Compelling Package originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.If the Celtics are contemplating a trade involving Jaylen Brown this offseason, a swap for Giannis Antetokounmpo may not be their only avenue.Boston might also explore trades with other teams across the league to bolster its roster now and in the future. One potential deal the Celtics should consider is with the Golden State Warriors, and here is a possible trade idea both teams could make.Warriors Receive: BrownCeltics Receive: Jimmy Butler, Brandin Podziemski, 2026 first-round pick (No.11) and 2028 first-round unprotected pickThis trade would likely only occur if Brown were open to the Celtics moving him, as Boston would be sacrificing a chance to compete for a title next season. However, adding Butler to the mix could still prove beneficial, as the Celtics would be good enough to make the playoffs if he stays healthy.Butler will turn 37 this fall and is currently recovering from a torn ACL he sustained in January. Before his injury, he was enjoying a strong season, averaging 20 points per game across 38 games. If he makes a full recovery, there’s a good chance he could regain his former level of play. The only concern is that Butler's career is nearing its end, and he might only have a few more seasons left. Yet, the Celtics would gain a young shooting guard in Podziemski, who is just 23 and averaged 13.8 points per game last season. Additionally, they would acquire the No. 11 pick in this year’s draft to build around, along with another pick in 2028.If the Warriors were to acquire Brown, they would provide Steph Curry with a top-15 player to play alongside him over the next few years. With Curry turning 39 next March, it's crucial that he has another star to support him on the court.More NBA: What Latest Celtics-Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors Mean For Jaylen Brown

Vestal and M-E softball overcome Horseheads and Oneonta at sectionals
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Southern Tier’s best softball teams, that of Vestal and Horseheads, Maine-Endwell and Oneonta, competed at Greenlight Grand Slam Park in Binghamton for the Class AA and A sectional title, respectively.Maine-Endwell’s Tessa L’Amoreaux laid out the blueprint for her teammates, so to speak, serving as a model and key factor in the team’s 3-1 title victory over Oneonta. The junior pitcher managed 12 strikeouts in seven innings, while allowing the Yellowjackets only three hits in the game.Vestal's Natalie Frobel had three hits in the nine-inning performance against Horseheads, including a game-winning single line drive out to right field to bring teammate Tilly MacNamee her second run of the game and the Golden Bears' close 5-4 victory over the former sectional and regional title holders.Vestal will likely meet Section 6's at-large team at 1:00 PM at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park on June 2, while Maine-Endwell will likely face Section 8's at large team at 4:00 PM at the same venue for the continuation of the 2026 NYSPHSAA state softball tournament.Maine-Endwell's pitching proves to be second to noneBottom line: L’Amoreaux’s dominance on the mound left Oneonta scoreless until the fifth inning, with the Yellowjackets then seeing some light at the end of the tunnel before L’Amoreaux ended the game the way she began, shutting out the last two innings to put the score at 3-1 and a shot at becoming back-to-back state regional champions.Key plays & sequences:Bottom of 1st: L'Amoreaux singled to Oneonta's Kylie Carr (centerfield) while Isabel Hunter hit a hard ground ball to left infield, occupying first and second base. L'Amoreaux advanced to third on a passed ball, then went for it on a ground ball by Harper Eagan, giving M-E its first run of the game. 1-0Bottom of 3rd: Harper Eagan singled on a ground ball to left field, but advanced to second on a slow throw. Maine-Endwell's Kaylee Hurba scored. 2-0Top of 5th: Desiree Wheeler singled to right field, then made it to third base on two passed balls. A sacrifice fly from Julie Ferriera-Reyes brought Wheeler home and put Oneonta on the board. 2-1Bottom of 5th: Emma Rondeau narrowly steals second base after hitting to right field in the previous play. T. L'Amoreaux took a heavy swing to put the ball deep into left field, bringing Rondeau home. 3-1Other key stats:Tessa L'Amoreaux (P), M-E: at bat - 1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI; Harper Eagan (1B), M-E: 1 hit, 2 RBIsCarey Mistler (P), Oneonta: 4 strikeouts, 8 hits allowed; Desiree Wheeler (2B), Oneonta: 1 run, 1 hitVestal's decisiveness comes in clutchBottom line: A walk-off home run by Vestal's Maggie Costello and Horseheads' Caitlyn Yearick brought the two powerhouses to a late standstill at 4-4 before pivotal decisions made by Vestal's Tilly MacNamee named Vestal the 2026 sectional champions with a 5-4 victory over last year's champs.Key plays & sequences: Bottom of the 4th: Horseheads' Raegan Burge managed to strike out three and allow only one run (Katelin Gowe, Vestal) after a tough pitching adjustment with the bases loaded. 1-0Top of the 6th: Caitlin Yearick hits a home run to center field to put Horseheads on the board. 1-1Top of 7th: Yearick hits another home run to center field to bring home Kolby Chaffee and Grace Cornin. 4-1Bottom of 7th: KayLynn Tanton gets tagged at home after trying her luck on Rachel Ouimette's ground ball.MacNamee singled on a hard ground ball to right field to bring Ouimette to score. 4-2Maggie Costello hit a home run out to center field to bring MacNamee home to score. 4-4Bottom of 9th: MacNamee advanced to third base after stealing second and capitalizing on a groundout by Costello. A single line drive by Frobel brought MacNamee home. 5-4Other key stats: Erin Gowe (P), Vestal: 14 strikeouts, 8 hits allowed; Maggie Costello (SS): 1 run, 2 RBIs, 1 hitRaegan Burge (P), Horseheads: 6 strikeouts, 11 hits allowed; Caitlin Yearick (3B), Horseheads: 2 runs, 4 RBIs, 3 hitsThis article originally appeared on Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin: Vestal and M-E outlast two softball powerhouses at sectionals

The Spurs have been exceptional this season with a 73-27 record, and they have been a reliable road team, going 10-5 against the spread away from home over their last 15 games. However, Oklahoma City presents a tough test, holding a 4-1 record against the spread over their last five home contests. If you prefer projecting the combined scoring output, targeting the Over (212.5) looks like a highly favorable option. The trends strongly support a high-scoring environment: the total has eclipsed the projection in seven of the Thunder's last nine games against opponents with a winning record. Similarly, the Spurs tend to play higher-scoring games when operating as the underdog, surpassing the projected total in three of their last four games in that scenario. Combining both teams' propensity to push the pace, projecting the over stands out as a top play. How to Get Started With Novig Promo Code TSNEWS50Ready to lock in your picks for the Thunder-Spurs matchup? Virginia Tech vs UCLA baseball live box score: Live stats from NCAA Baseball Championship Game originally appeared on The Sporting News. UCLA surprisingly dropped their first game to Saint Mary's on Friday. Virginia Tech also lost their first game 6-2 vs Cal Poly, placing both teams in the losers bracket. Win and stay alive or lose and go home, for both teams. The Hokies will send out Brett Renfrow to start the game. Renfrow had a 4.65 ERA and a 5-4 record in 14 appearances. Renfrow has not pitched since May 14. UCLA is expected to start Michael Barnes. On paper, this is a lopsided matchup. Julian Nagelsmann already dealing with health issues on Bayern Munich stars
BERLIN, GERMANY - MAY 23: Jamal Musiala and Manuel Neuer of FC Bayern Munich celebrate following victory during the DFB Cup Final 2026 match between FC Bayern München and VfB Stuttgart at Olympiastadion on May 23, 2026 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images) | Getty Images Anyone closely following Bayern Munich is well aware of the uncertain status of both Manuel Neuer and Jamal Musiala. While Musiala’s physical status is more about how he feels day-to-day after that major injury rather than a current ailment, Manuel Neuer has been dealing with a calf issue. For German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann, it will be daily monitoring on both players for the next month. As a precaution, Nagelsmann said that Neuer will not play against Finland on Sunday in an international friendly serving as preparation for the upcoming World Cup.“Manuel Neuer will not play against Finland on Sunday. That was our decision, and he agreed to it. We’ll give an update on how things are looking for him ahead of the USA friendly. Oli Baumann will play on Sunday and will do well,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). As for Musiala, Nagelsmann indicated he would be okay if the attacker was only operating at 70%, but is aiming for the 23-year-old to be at 100% for the first game on June 14th — which seems like a reach. “He’s taken important steps in recent weeks. He intuitively does a lot of the right things – the important thing is that he plays freely and doesn’t overthink things. Even if Jamal plays at 70%, he’s still better than many others. I’ll be happy if he’s at 100% for the first game. He still has some time; we’re not putting him under pressure. We have a brilliant partner for him in Flo Wirtz. He doesn’t have to orchestrate everything on his own. If they both work well together, we’ll naturally be a better team,” Nagelsmann remarked. If you are looking for more Bayern Munich and German national team coverage, check out the latest episodes of Bavarian Podcast Works, which you can get on Acast, Spotify, Apple, or any leading podcast distributor… Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

Rookie Saints 3rd-round pick Oscar Delp compared to 7-time Pro Bowler
Just how big of a role will Oscar Delp have in the New Orleans Saints offense during his rookie year? The former Georgia Bulldogs tight end was picked in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft but is, for now, behind veterans like Juwan Johnson and Noah Fant on the depth chart. That doesn't mean he won't see the field at all. He just needs to prove he's the best option the Saints have for enough plays and personnel packages to get on the field and earn more opportunities. He already has some fans; one of them is NFL Films senior producer Greg Cosell, who has seen generations of great players play the game at the highest level. Cosell sees Delp as someone who could take a similar path to former fifth-round tight end George Kittle."He's a player whose tape I really like. Now he did not put up huge receiving numbers in college, but I think that he could become a really good, multi-dimensional, dual tight end in that he can block in line, he's athletic as a receiver," Cosell said on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast. Delp only caught 70 passes in four years at the college level, but he was efficient with 12.2 yards per catch, 46 first downs, and nine touchdowns. There's untapped potential there.Cosell was careful to avoid a direct comparison between Kittle and rookies like Delp; after all, he said, Kittle is likely headed for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The playmaking tight end has four seasons with 1,000 or more receiving yards and 52 touchdown catches to his name. But the lesson to take from his success is that college tight ends may have skills that flash more brightly at the next level. High-end athletes with good hands are often asked to block rather than catch, but that doesn't mean they can't handle both assignments when given a chance.“Kittle, in his last two years at Iowa, if I, if memory serves me correctly, caught 20 and 22 balls, and was what, a fourth- or fifth-round pick? And he's obviously gone on to be a great player and an outstanding receiver. So I think there's probably a belief that some of these receivers, some of these tight ends were not used in a certain way in college but the receiving traits are there," Cosell added. "I think there's a sense that these guys have a lot of receiving ability that can come out more at the NFL level.”So it's probably too soon to hope for Delp to lead the team's tight ends in receiving yards. But if he can pop off like Kittle did as a rookie and make a consistently positive impact (43 receptions for 515 yards and a couple of touchdowns)? That alone would be impressive. It would also set a strong foundation for him to build on in Year 2 and beyond. Delp's selection was a surprise for many fans on the second day of this year's draft, but he has the tools to prove it was a smart move now and in the future. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Saints rookie Oscar Delp compared to 49ers superstar George Kittle

Vikings hire Seahawks assistant Nolan Teasley as their general manager, AP source says
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms Saturday on a contract with Seattle Seahawks assistant Nolan Teasley to be their general manager, a person with direct knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized with Teasley, who has spent his entire 13-year NFL career with Seattle. During that span, the Seahawks made the playoffs nine times, reached three Super Bowls, and won two of them including the most recent one in February.Teasley was promoted in 2023 to assistant GM by president of football operations and general manager John Schneider, who was the architect of both of those championship teams. After the Vikings decided not to re-sign quarterback Sam Darnold last year, he joined the Seahawks and helped them become champions.Teasley will replace Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who was fired in January after four years in the role. Adofo-Mensah was an outside-of-the-box hire, bringing economics degrees and Wall Street experience to the world of pro football. Vikings owners Mark Wilf and Zygi Wilf were first seeking more of a collaborator with this hire, a leader who could better bridge between the personnel department and the coaching staff, but all of their external candidates had traditional scouting backgrounds.Watching Darnold lead the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, after he won 14 games in 2024 in his lone season with the Vikings, also undoubtedly played some part for the Wilf family in the dismissal of Adofo-Mensah.Teasley was among five finalists who met in person this week with Vikings leadership during the second round of interviews, beating out current Vikings executive vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski, Denver Broncos assistant general manager Reed Burckhardt, Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray, and Los Angeles Rams assistant general manager John McKay. Brzezinski, who directed the draft last month while serving as interim general manager, has been with the Vikings since 1999 and rose to the top through his expertise in salary cap management and player contract negotiation. Brzezinski, who is widely respected in the organization and throughout the league, will remain in his role alongside Teasley and coach Kevin O'Connell, a trio the Wilfs will entrust to bring the Vikings their first championship.Teasley was the only finalist without ties to the Vikings. Burckhardt and Gray both previously worked as scouts for the Vikings. O'Connell previously worked for the Rams. Gray, McKay and Teasley took part in the NFL’s accelerator program that was revamped with a rollout at the league meetings earlier this month.Teasley is a Washington native who graduated from Central Washington University in 2007 with a degree in public relations, working in marketing before making the jump to the NFL and joining the Seahawks as an intern in the scouting department in 2013. He became director of pro personnel in 2018.Adofo-Mensah and Ryan Poles were the only two finalists who had in-person interviews for the vacancy in 2022 after the firing of Rick Spielman. Poles was hired by the Chicago Bears instead and remains in that job for the defending NFC North champions.___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

USMNT vs. Senegal — How To Watch, Prediction And Projected Lineups
FAYETTEVILLE, GEORGIA - MAY 28: Weston McKennie of the United States looks for the pass at Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center on May 28, 2026 in Fayetteville, Georgia. (Photo by John Dorton/USSF/Getty Images)Getty ImagesThe United States 2026 World Cup squad will play its first of two preparatory friendlies on Sunday against Sengal in Charlotte, N.C. Here’s everything you should know about the fixture, including how to watch and whom USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to feature in his starting XI.How to Watch USMNT vs. SenegalTime and Venue3:30 pm ET | Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, N.C.TV and StreamingTBS, HBO Max (English) | Universo, Peacock (Spanish)Tickets:Click HereUSMNT and Senegal Projected LineupsUSMNT Team NewsUnited States manager Mauricio Pochettino has clearly held a higher tolerance for experimentation during his tenure than some fans would prefer. However, now that the final 26-man squad is together, you’d expect to see something close to his ideal starting XI in these to friendlies. Unlike other international windows, recovery between games should not be a problem, since the two friendlies come six days apart, with another six before opening the tournament against Paraguay on June 12.The exception is center back Chris Richards, who made the bench in Crystal Palace’s victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night but did not play as he deals with what appears to be an ankle sprain. He’s expected to be ready to go in time for the tournament, but will be given a few extra day to recover.Even were Richards available, the smart money would be on Pochettino’s group playing a 3-4-3. Without their best center back on the pitch, that feels like a virtual certainty.Projected USMNT Lineup (3-4-3, left to right)Matt Freese (GK) - Auston Trusty, Tim Ream, Mark McKenzie - Antonee Robinson, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, Sergino Dest - Tim Weah, Folarin Balogun, Christian Pulisic.Senegal Team NewsArguably the most talented side in Africa, Senegal cruised through a qualifying group that also included DR Congo, which qualified for its first World Cup via the intercontinental playoff pathway. All the focus may be on whether captain Kalidou Koulibaly can get healthy in time after injuries kept him out of the close of Al-Hilal’s season. But don’t let that obscure an exceptional roster that includes Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye and Villareal midfielder Pape Gueye.Senegal Projected XI (4-1-4-1, left to right)Édouard Mendy (GK) - El Hadji Malick Diouf, Moussa Niakhaté, Mamadou Sarr, Antoine Mendy - Idrissa Gana Gueye - Sadio Mané, Pape Gueye, Lamine Camara, Iliman Ndiaye - Nickolas JacksonUSMNT vs. Senegal PredictionWith a short roster in holding midfield and a deep one on the flanks, the best guess is Pochettino is trying to build a squad that fits well within his tactical comfort zone of attacking transitions. And while we may see less lineup experimentation, don’t count on tactical conservatism -. That could make this a bit of a track meet against an opponent that can more than match the Americans for pace and quality. And with the stakes still low, it’s one that suggests plenty of goals. The U.S. is the home team, but Senegal is the better one. They take a narrow victory in an entertaining contest.Match Prediction:USMNT 2, Senegal 3This article was originally published on Forbes.com

PSG go back-to-back and join 'greatest of all time'
Paris St-Germain underlined their status as one of European football's greatest ever teams by becoming only the second club to retain the Champions League.Their nervy 4-3 win on penalties over Arsenal following a 1-1 draw in the final in Budapest backed up their 5-0 win over Inter Milan in Munich 12 months ago.In doing so they became the first side to successfully defend their title since Real Madrid's three-peat from 2016 to 2018, and only the second to do it in the Champions League era - 1993 onwards.Indeed, across the competition's 71-year history PSG are just the 10th club to win successive titles."I'm mixed," boss Luis Enrique said after the game. "Excitement, fatigue - everything. But this is the best moment of the season. We are still champs, two in a row, it's amazing."All 10 of the outfield players who started PSG's win over Arsenal, also started their victory over Inter Milan.Only goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was new, in for Gianluigi Donnarumma who was signed by Manchester City last summer.Over the past two years Luis Enrique's team have dominated almost all competitions they have competed in.Since the start of last season they have won eight of the 10 trophies available to them - only missing out on last summer's Club World Cup and this campaign's French Cup.If they continue their dominance next season PSG could become just the fifth side to win three successive Champions League/European Cup titles. But they still have a way to go to break Real Madrid's record of five European Cups in a row between 1956 and 1960."Tonight PSG have made history," said European football journalist Julien Laurens on BBC Radio 5 Live."Last season will always be special, but I think they will enjoy this more as they had to dig deep, they had to fight, and they had to come back."Last season was almost a bit too easy against Inter. Back-to-back you join the greatest of all time."Luis Enrique is now the fifth manager to win three Champions League/European Cup titles [Getty Images]'They are in the conversation with those great teams'ESPN journalist Laurens said PSG's second Champions League crown "puts them in another dimension".The French champions also scored the most goals (45) and recorded the highest average possession (60.5%) in this season's competition.Laurens added to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Now they are in the conversation with those great teams. Pep [Guardiola] never did it with [Lionel] Messi and Barcelona, or with Manchester City either. "If you win one it's great, one and you are happy. But back-to-back is a different story."Paris St-Germain were playing in their third final. Their first was in 2019-20 when they lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich in Portugal. But by winning a second Champions League title PSG also became the best-performing French club in the competition, going clear of rivals Marseille who have one title. The Paris St-Germain fans unveiled a tifo suggesting they weren't going to give up their title before the game [Getty Images]Luis Enrique 'didn't want PSG job' at firstHead coach Luis Enrique follows in the footsteps of Bob Paisley, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane in becoming just the fifth manager to win three Champions League/European Cup titles. The Spaniard, who was unveiled as PSG boss in July 2023, also won the Champions League as a player with Barcelona in 2014-15.Remarkably, "he didn't want to take the job when he was first asked", journalist Guillem Balague told BBC Radio 5 Live. "[He said] 'you are full of stars - I'm not interested'. He was promised [he could] change the culture and the question was different. It wasn't how can we win the Champions League, it was what kind of football do we want? "The answer was offensive, attractive and Luis Enrique represented that and he was convinced he could do that."Under Luis Enrique, PSG lost their record goalscorer and five-time Ligue 1 player of the year Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024.But, arguably, the France forward's departure has helped balance the team.PSG scored 44 more goals across all competitions in their first season without Mbappe (2024-25) compared with his final season at the club."Everyone plays like a team," says Balague of the current squad. "PSG is the team with the fewest yellow cards in Europe's top leagues. That is a reflection of emotional control and everyone playing for everybody instead of being angry. "He [Luis Enrique] said before when Mbappe left he prefers five players scoring 10 goals than one scoring 50. This season PSG have 20 different goalscorers. It is a collective approach."They also equalled the record for most goals scored in a single edition of the European Cup/Champions League, with their 45 drawing level with Barcelona's total in 1999-2000.Luis Enrique has also created a brilliant relationship with PSG's fans. After their Champions League win last year, they unveiled a flag in tribute to their coach and daughter Xana - who died aged nine in 2019 - showing the pair planting a Barcelona flag in the centre circle after the 2015 European triumph over Juventus in Berlin. And in Budapest, before their win over Arsenal, a giant banner showing Luis Enrique lifting the famous trophy was displayed among the French faithful. He was cheered on by the PSG fans passionately as he was lifted into the air by his players while hold the Champions League trophy. After collecting his medal he danced in front of them with president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, celebrating the trophy that for so long had eluded the club. Trump set to headline ‘Great American State Fair’ after artists drop out over ties
President Donald Trump looks out the window of his limousine at the construction in Lafayette Park as he departs the White House, Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)2026-05-30T19:55:11Z WASHINGTON (AP) — An upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, “The Great American State Fair,” recently had several musical guests back out because of the event’s connections to President Donald Trump. Now, Trump himself is slated to headline the festivities, the organizers said Saturday.“I understand Artists are getting ‘the yips’ having to do with their performance,” Trump posted to his social media platform Truth Social Saturday, adding that he was thinking of bringing “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP, to take the place of these highly paid, Third Rate ‘Artists.’”The group organizing the June fair on Washington’s National Mall, Freedom 250, confirmed the billing in a statement, writing, “we are excited to announce that President Trump will personally kick off this historic celebration.” Trump’s social media post twice referenced the event as being “Wednesday,” though the fair doesn’t start until June 25. The White House did not immediately clarify the discrepancy.Danielle Alvarez, a spokesperson for Freedom 250, emphasized the broader fair that will run through July 10 includes an array of exhibits, family friendly attractions, musical performances, flyovers and more. Freedom 250 is billed as nonpartisan, but was launched last year by Trump and is led by a former State Department appointee from Trump’s first term. Several artists, including Bret Michaels, the Commodores and Martina McBride dropped out last week. Corey Heim Joins 23XI Racing Full-Time for 2027 NASCAR Cup Series Season
Corey Heim’s long-awaited NASCAR Cup Series opportunity is finally here.On Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway, 23XI Racing announced that Heim will join the organization as a full-time Cup Series driver beginning in 2027. The move gives one of NASCAR’s most highly regarded young prospects a permanent seat at the sport’s highest level after years of success in Toyota’s development pipeline.Heim will drive the No. 35 Toyota Camry XSE, replacing Riley Herbst, who is expected to remain with the organization in a different capacity. For many around the garage, the announcement feels less like a surprise and more like the next logical step in Heim’s career. The 23-year-old has spent the last several seasons establishing himself as one of the top young talents in NASCAR, collecting victories, and the 2025 championship, in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series while steadily building a reputation as one of Toyota’s most promising prospects.“Since I was five years old, all I ever wanted was to be a Cup driver,” Heim said in a statement released by 23XI Racing. “My family and I have sacrificed a ton to get me to this level, and I don’t take that for granted.”Corey Heim Finally Gets The Opportunity Many ExpectedHeim’s promotion comes after one of the most successful stretches by any young driver in NASCAR.The 23-year-old captured the 2025 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship and has spent the last several seasons establishing himself as one of Toyota’s top prospects. As victories and strong performances continued to pile up, many viewed a full-time Cup Series opportunity as a matter of when, not if.That opportunity officially arrived Saturday when 23XI Racing announced Heim will join the organization full-time beginning in 2027.“From everyone at 23XI to the team at Toyota Racing, I’ve been blessed to have support from so many people along the way. I can’t wait for the 2027 season to begin,” he said. The move gives 23XI Racing another young cornerstone alongside Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace as the organization continues to expand its future plans. Denny Hamlin Explains Why 23XI Racing Believes In HeimTeam co-owner Denny Hamlin made it clear Saturday that 23XI Racing views Heim as much more than another developmental prospect.Speaking with reporters at Nashville, Hamlin said Heim possesses traits that separate him from most young drivers.“For our company, generational drivers only come by every now and then,” Hamlin said. “And I firmly believe that we have one here.”Hamlin said Heim’s race craft has stood out to him for years, drawing comparisons to Reddick’s ability to create opportunities in difficult situations.“It was just his race craft in general,” Hamlin said. “Very similar to Tyler (Reddick) in that when his vehicle is in a certain position, vulnerable position, he still finds a way to get out of it and make a move wherever he is trying to pass.”Hamlin added that Heim consistently makes difficult moves look routine.“I know moves that are difficult to make and the great ones find ways to make them and make it look easy when I know it’s not.”Those comments offer a glimpse into why 23XI Racing was willing to make such a significant commitment to the young driver. Now, after years of waiting for his shot, Heim has the opportunity he has been chasing since childhood.Beginning in 2027, one of NASCAR’s most accomplished young prospects will finally have a full-time home in the Cup Series.

PSG best team in the world, admits Arsenal's Arteta after 'pain' of defeat
Arsenal and coach Mikel Arteta could not defeat Luis Enrique's PSG to win the Champions League for the first time (FRANCK FIFE)Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta admitted Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain are the best team in the world after his team fell to defeat in the final on penalties on Saturday.Following a 1-1 draw after extra-time, PSG clinched the Champions League for a second consecutive season with a 4-3 shoot-out victory.Arteta said all he was feeling was "pain", and admitted his Arsenal side, who won the Premier League this season, was not at the same level as the French champions who dominated the ball throughout."I want to congratulate PSG, Luis (Enrique, the coach) in particular, because in my opinion they are the best in the world," Arteta told reporters in Budapest."What they are able to do with the ball, with individual actions, I haven't seen it (before), and it's not a plan to play in certain scenarios when you don't have the ball but they force you to do that. So even more praise to the players."Arsenal had under 25 percent possession in the game, defending resiliently against waves of PSG pressure. The Ligue 1 winners equalled the record of 45 goals scored in a Champions League campaign with Ousmane Dembele's second-half penalty, to level Kai Havertz's early opener for Arsenal.Arteta was unhappy with the decision not to award Arsenal winger Noni Madueke a penalty with the score tied at 1-1 but accepted his team had to improve further still if they are to win the Champions League. This was their second appearance in the competition's final, 20 years after the first in which they lost against Barcelona in Paris. In nearly seven years at the helm Arteta has helped bring Arsenal back to the top of the game, winning the English title after a 22-year wait, but he insisted further change was necessary."The same progression that we had in the last few years, we're going to have to do that over again, and the level is increasing every single season," explained the Spanish coach."You have to go through that pain (from tonight), digest it and turn it into fuel to improve and to reach a different level, because it demands a different level with the quality that is around Europe."rbs/jc

Brighton girls lacrosse ousted by South Lyon in clash of state powers
NORTHVILLE — Ashton Peters has coached three state championship girls lacrosse teams at Brighton and three others that were finals runners-up, but this year’s team may be her favorite. She said as much to her players, even though they didn’t get out of their region following a 14-11 loss to South Lyon in a Division 1 regional championship game between the last two state champions on Saturday, May 30.While state championships are incredible, and the Bulldogs work harder than most teams to achieve them, they’re not the bottom line in high school sports.Peters expressed pride in the leadership of her 12 seniors, who helped six freshmen assimilate into one of the best programs in Michigan. Four of those seniors were a part of state championship teams in 2023 and 2024 before losing to a powerful South Lyon team in the last two regional finals.“They mentored them and taught them what our program is about beyond just the game of lacrosse,” Peters said. “I’ve never been more proud as a coach. They taught their freshmen what it means to be a teammate, a strong confident woman. Those 12 seniors are going to make an insane difference in this world. I can walk away from this game knowing that’s more important than any state title ever.”Among those senior leaders is all-state defender Abby Kissel, who was brought up from the varsity “B” team as a freshman and got playing time in some of the Bulldogs’ tougher nonleague games. She and the team’s leaders helped cultivate a feeling of inclusion in the group, whether a player had won two state championships or was brand new to high school lacrosse.“We’re really one big friend group,” Kissel said. “We really worked as captains and the group as a whole to create a team culture of everyone’s included. You know when you come to practice every day that everyone’s going to be in a good mood and we’re going to have a great time. That’s what I love about playing lacrosse is you know you’re going to have fun.”Kissel and fellow four-year players Vivian Eckerman, Maggie Burchfield and Isabella Orton learned lessons in leadership from the seniors on the two state championship teams.“It was insane,” Kissel said. “It was one of the best feelings ever. It helped us create the culture we have now and wanting to continue that drive for our program, wanting every girl in the program to experience a state championship. It’s truly one of a kind. It’s not the outcome we wanted this year, but it’s a memory I’ll have forever.”The regional final featured two teams who combined to win the last four Division 1 state championships, Brighton from 2022-24 and South Lyon last season. South Lyon is unbeaten over the last two seasons, winning four tight matchups with Brighton.Brighton led 3-2 after one quarter and had a goal disallowed early in the second before South Lyon scored four straight goals to take the lead for good. The Bulldogs rallied three times, only to have South Lyon respond to maintain its lead. After trailing 12-7 with 1:11 left in the third quarter, Brighton cut the lead to 12-11 on a goal by Lauren Simms with 5:47 remaining in the game.South Lyon’s Gabriela Lucchesi scored two quick goals to expand the lead to 14-11 with 4:47 left.South Lyon made things difficult on Brighton by winning draws and making it an ordeal for the Bulldogs to get the ball out of their own end.“They have a fantastic re-defend and they run the pace of the field,” Peters said. “They’re very disciplined. They play very similar to how we play. It’s hard if the draws aren’t going your way, because you can’t answer.”Kelly McKaig had five goals, Quinn Holdridge three and Mia Balogh two for Brighton.Contact Bill Khan at wkhan@livingstondaily.com. Far from scene of triumph, PSG's Paris home thunders with joy
Supporters inside PSG's stadium were jubilant (Kenzo TRIBOUILLARD)Paris Saint-German's legendary home stadium, the Parc des Princes, was far from the scene of the club's Champions League triumph in Budapest but with an electric atmosphere from tens of thousands of supporters packed inside it was like the match was being played there. Some 1,500 kilometres (1,000 miles) from the Hungarian capital, the stadium throbbed with the joy of fans celebrating the club's second consecutive Champions League victory after the dramatic penalty shootout win against Arsenal.Over 48,000 PSG supporters had crammed inside the stadium in the stifling 30C heat of an early summer heatwave to watch the match relayed on six giant screens. With fans standing up at key moments as if the ball was on the turf below them, cries of "Ici c'est Paris" ("Here, this is Paris" and "le back-to-back") went up as victory was recorded. They whistled at the Gunners and applauded every positive move by their side."It's a totally deserved victory. Arsenal did not have it in them to be the champions while PSG now enters into legend. It's incredible, all the fans were waiting for this," said Adel, 28.After a somewhat lacklustre first half marked by Arsenal's early goal, Ousmane Dembele's penalty equaliser electrified the crowd, who brought out the flares and stamped their feet on the stands.- 'A consecration' -In the stands, 22-year-old Vincent had come with his father, Philippe, a lifelong PSG supporter, who was sporting a retro PSG jersey from the 1980s when the club had nothing like its current global profile. "At first, we were frustrated because they were playing with 10 players in the box, it was hard to score," commented Vincent, who sniped that Arsenal "played very poorly, their passing was messy".Outside the stadium, the atmosphere was more tense, with 4,000 and 5,000 people gathering during the match and projectiles thrown at officers.About 150 people "attempted to enter through one of the gates" but police pushed them back, a police spokesperson said. But there was no such tension inside with the mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Gregoire also sporting a PSG jersey, alongside 500 children from Parisian football clubs. For many Parisians, the second successive win was a fairy tale moment after year-after-year where the club had been synonymous with European failure."When you've been a supporter for many years and have experienced failure after failure after failure, having a second victory is a consecration," said Georges, 38, a resident of the district of Boulogne-Billancourt in the area of the stadium.hdu-sjw/phz

Gilmour ruled out of World Cup - could Man Utd's Fletcher replace him?
Billy Gilmour was comforted by Scotland team-mates after going down clutching his knee [SNS]Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour has been ruled out of the World Cup after picking up a knee injury during Saturday's 4-1 friendly win over Curacao. The Scottish FA confirmed the 24-year-old Napoli player would not take part in the finals, saying: "We're all with you, Billy."Gilmour, who was planning to attend a family wedding later on Saturday, started at Hampden but was withdrawn after pulling up in pain. His replacement, Findlay Curtis, scored Scotland's first-half leveller before Lawrence Shankland's double after the break and a late Ryan Christie penalty.Head coach Steve Clarke said post-match he was "100% worried" about Gilmour."One request was obviously no injuries," Clarke said. "He hurt himself in the tackle and then he made the decision he had to come off, so that tells you that he himself knew it wasn't right."The Scotland squad are scheduled to fly to the United States on Sunday.Scotland put four past 10-man CuracaoHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World CupIs Man Utd's Fletcher possible replacement?Tyler Fletcher made his senior international debut after playing twice for Manchester United this season [SNS]Midfielder Tyler Fletcher was given his Scotland debut as a half-time substitute and Clarke confirmed the 19-year-old was one possible replacement for Gilmour. The Manchester United player - son of former Scotland captain Darren - is one of four youngsters that have trained with the squad this week.None of those are part of the squad for the World Cup matches against Haiti, Morocco and Brazil, and neither are Rangers' Connor Barron, Andy Irving of Sparta Prague and Udinese's Lennon Milller, who Clarke also named-checked."Those three are on standby and obviously Tyler joined us this week," he said. "He's trained well this week, so he's a little bit closer than the other three, but I'd need to have a big discussion with my staff and decide the best way to go."Fletcher - whose twin Jack plays age-grade football for England - made his senior debut for his father's former club in February and also came on in the final game of the season against Brighton.Former Scotland winger Neil McCann put it to Clarke on BBC One Scotland that he looked "really accomplished" in a holding role.Clarke responded: "Everybody was impressed - the players were impressed, the coaching staff were impressed, I had no doubts."I actually thought about putting him on as Billy came off but I just thought I'd have a little look, see how the game panned out before introducing him at half-time."Scotland midfielder Kenny McLean played with Darren Fletcher at the start of his own international career and said he "can't speak highly enough" of Tyler."I said to the lads after his first session, I could see something special in him, so I was glad that he'd got on today. He deserved it after the week he's had," the Norwich City midfielder said."In my first session with Scotland, Darren stood out a mile. Fortunately for us, his son is pretty similar. There's a lot of potential, it's about using him the right way."

For a trans California senior, it’s a track meet. For The New York Times, it’s a debate
A New York Times preview of this weekend’s California state track and field championships has renewed criticism of the newspaper’s coverage of transgender athletes. The publication provided little context and no interviews with trans people or with supporters of transgender inclusion. The focus of the Timesreport is AB Hernandez, a 17-year-old transgender athlete from Jurupa Valley, who returns to the state meet one year after winning two gold medals amid controversy over her participation. As The Advocate has reported, state policy requires her to share first-place gold medals and the podium with cisgender high school girls, who finish after her. It guarantees that even if a trans student-athlete like Hernandez finishes first, the highest-finishing cisgender athlete is also awarded first place. Not everyone in the transgender community is opposed to that. Out trans sports scientist Joanna Harper, who has been studying the ways hormone therapy makes a difference in trans people’s athletic performance for two decades, told The Advocate she agrees with the state’s podium policy.Related: What does the science say about transgender women in sports? "Given that California allows trans girls to compete in the female category without hormones, then don't think it is unreasonable to have a shared podium," Harper said. The policy was adopted as California seeks to preserve participation opportunities for transgender students while responding to concerns raised by opponents. The state is currently suing the Trump administration over demands that it abandon its transgender-inclusive athletics policy.President Donald Trump referenced Hernandez’s case last year without naming her directly and threatened to withhold federal funding if California continued allowing transgender girls to compete under current rules. The Times article, published Friday, noted that Hernandez could return to defend her titles and potentially win additional championships. The story also highlighted pending rulings in Supreme Court cases involving bans on transgender athletes in West Virginia and Idaho. The article noted that a ruling is unlikely to alter California’s policy.Related: Think transgender women have an advantage in sports? A new study disputes the ideaEarlier this month, The Advocatereported on an analysis published by Assigned Media that found that while The Times produced more transgender-related coverage than any outlet examined, it was the least likely to quote transgender people or transgender advocacy organizations in stories primarily focused on transgender issues.Last month, a former subscriber who is the parent of a transgender teenager raised concerns about that coverage during a shareholder meeting, arguing that Times reporting on transgender issues has been cited by the Trump administration and others "to justify discrimination and harm." Publisher A.G. Sulzberger defended the newspaper's reporting as "fair and comprehensive."In 2024, GLAAD launched a campaign criticizing what it described as biased and inaccurate coverage of transgender issues by the newspaper. That same year, writer Riki Wilchins argued that The Times' coverage helped shape public skepticism toward transgender people and transgender rights.Related: 7 takeaways from Supreme Court arguments about bans on trans women and girls in sportsThe Advocate contacted Times reporter Juliet Macur and executive editor Joe Kahn to seek comment on Friday’s story and on broader concerns of the newspaper’s transgender coverage. Neither responded before publication. Among the questions sent by The Advocate were how reporting decisions were made regarding source selection and why the story did not include more perspectives from supporters of transgender inclusion in sports.Friday’s article did include comments from Chris Erchull, a senior staff attorney at GLAD Law, who represents transgender clients. Erchull told The Advocate that he does not expect any forthcoming Supreme Court ruling on state transgender athlete bans to affect California’s policy."There's pretty much zero chance that it will have any bearing on what California is doing," Erchull told The Advocate by phone. "In fact, the California policy right now with respect to AB," he said, "is actually very friendly to the people who raise all these concerns about fairness and opportunities."This article originally appeared on Advocate: For a trans California senior, it’s a track meet. CBS Sports ranks Ohio State coach Ryan Day among best in college game
Being that it is deep into the offseason of college football, we're getting a lot of best-of list rankings from the national media, so why not take a look at them all? The latest is a ranking of the top 25 college football coaches in the game today, and CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli and company have opinions.Fornelli went through the effort of discerning the best 25, but did it with help from a panel of writers. The site has been doing this for 11 years, and it feels like there were some pretty big swings from what we saw last season, notably one coach moving all the way to No. 1 from outside the top 20 (you can probably guess who).Being that we are an Ohio State homer site, of course, we're interested to see where Ryan Day landed, but also curious about all of the Big Ten coaches and more. On that note, CBS Sports has Day as the third-best coach in the country behind Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti at No. 1 and Georgia's Kirby Smart at No. 2.Here's what CBS Sports says about Day:"Ohio State was unable to follow up its national title with another in 2025. The Buckeyes finished 12-2 overall and went 9-0 in conference play before falling to eventual national champion Indiana in the conference title game. They were also upset in their lone playoff game by the Miami team that would also lose to Indiana. So while Day finally got over that Michigan hump, nobody at Ohio State will ever be happy about finishing the season on a two-game losing streak. Given what he's accomplished through his entire career, though, nobody on our panel even thought about ranking him lower than third. That said, Day didn't garner a single first-place vote after picking some up last year."Who are the top 25 college football coaches in the Power Four? Our voters got together and figured that out.https://t.co/K2MYBpExEopic.twitter.com/PO5Zj7M8pK— Tom Fornelli (@TomFornelli) May 27, 2026You could easily make the argument for Day at No. 1, but you know how these things work; it's more of a what have you done for me lately and Cignetti's work to take Indiana to the College Football Playoff national championship and a head-to-head win over Day and Ohio State was enough to push him to the top. It doesn't matter what the Buckeyes did last year with a national title and a win over Indiana, but it does matter that OSU lost back-to-back games in the postseason last season.Other Big Ten coaches who made the list include Dan Lanning at Oregon (5), Michigan's Kyle Whittingham (10), Matt Campbell of Penn State (16), USC's Lincoln Riley (17), Kirk Ferentz of Iowa (20), and Illinois' Bret Bielema (25).These things eventually become more accurate over time, and something tells me Day is going to continue to have his teams compete at an elite level, so don't be surprised if he eventually makes it to the top.Contact/Follow us @BuckeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Ohio State news, notes, and opinion. Scotland dealt World Cup blow as Billy Gilmour ruled out through injury
Scotland have been dealt a blow to their World Cup 2026 preparation as influential midfielder Billy Gilmour has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The 24-year-old suffered a knee issue during Scotland’s 4-1 victory over Curacao at Hampden Park on Saturday and sank to the turf unchallenged before calling for the physios. After receiving some treatment on the pitch, Gilmour was substituted off before the end of the first half and departing the playing surface unaided. That raised hopes that his injury was not a serious issue but following further tests the decision has been made to rule him out for the tournament which begins in two week’s time.Gilmour will now return to his domestic club, Napoli, for rehabilitation. The Scotland National Team announced the news on social media and posted a statement on X, formerly Twitter. It reads: “We regret to announce that the knee injury sustained by Billy Gilmour in today’s win over Curacao will rule him out of participation in @FIFAWorldCup. “We're all with you, Billy.”Gilmour had initially been called up to Scotland’s 26-man squad by manager Steve Clarke and looked set to play a crucial role in the team’s World Cup campaign alongside Napoli teammate Scott McTominay in the middle of the pitch. We regret to announce that the knee injury sustained by Billy Gilmour in today’s win over Curaçao will rule him out of participation in @FIFAWorldCup. We're all with you, Billy 💙— Scotland National Team (@ScotlandNT) May 30, 2026Clarke said: "I am devastated for Billy because he has been an integral part of our World Cup qualifying campaign. The timing of this injury is so, so cruel and we all feel for him."He knows what we all think of him as a footballer and a person and while no words will give him any comfort tonight, I am certain Billy will have many major tournaments ahead of him in the future."Scotland next play a warm-up game against Bolivia on June 6 before their first World Cup game against Haiti in Boston on June 14.

Mountain Pointe juniors have eyes on bigger state basketball prize
Two minutes into its first summer game, 6-foot-8 Marcus Isaac had a dunk, a blocked shot and a 3-pointer for Phoenix Mountain Pointe. Guards Jayvein Moody and Justin Kimbrough then took over, and the rout was on. Mountain Pointe took care of Phoenix Carl Hayden, 80-49, in the opener of the St. Mary's Summer Shootout presented by Monarch Sports on Friday, May 29.Now going to be juniors, Isaac, Moody and Kimbrough have grown up in the program, experiencing the heartache of 5A championship losses as freshmen and sophomores, both times to Phoenix Central."We're very hungry," Isaac said. "We're not the young team everybody looked down on. Now we've got to come extra aggressive, better than before."Mountain Pointe coach Kaimarr Price returns practically everybody from last year's basketball team that revolved around the Big 3 of Isaac, Moody and Kimbrough, the leaders of a revamped program since they were freshmen. The next move is to no longer be satisfied with making a run to the 5A final after falling out of the 32-team Open state tournament early. Teams that lose in the first two rounds fall back into their respective conference tournaments.Instead of wanting revenge against Central, the Pride are thinking about 6A teams such as defending Open champion Phoenix Sunnyslope, Adan Diggs-led Goodyear Millennium, recharged Gilbert Perry and Open semifinalist Chandler Basha next season."We're all chasing Sunnyslope," Price said. "Open championship is the goal."Mountain Pointe went 21-8 last season when Moody averaged 14.7 points, Isaac 14.6 and Kimbrough 11.2 as sophomores. Zen London, who averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds as a sophomore, is also back.Isaac averaged 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks, as well."Maturity is the biggest thing," Price said about the improvement Isaac has shown in the past two years. "Not only the physical maturity you can see, as he grows and lifts more weights, but the way he approaches the game, approaches practices. "He's a lot more aggressive ... . That's going to be a big key for him."Isaac says he needs to work mostly on his ball-handling and his 3-point shooting. Price believes Isaac is the best interior defender in the state. He'll spend June with Mountain Pointe before joining Compton Magic in July during the club basketball AAU season. Isaac said his four Division I offers are from Northern Arizona, San Jose State, Utah and California."We're coming together," Isaac said. "I know losing the two championships can bring you down. But mentally, we're going to be up. We're going to be all right."Kimbrough feels this team will be ready to go for a third state final. But now in the Open."Definitely, the Open," the 5-11 Kimbrough said.Moody, who is 6-1, has great leaping ability. He showed that off with three dunks against Carl Hayden in the Summer Shootout game."I've worked on that," Moody said. "I'm in the gym for hours and hours."The team's road to the title starts with Isaac in the post."Marcus opens up a lot of shots for us," Moody said.Kimbrough said Isaac is a playmaker, too, so there are more options to go around on the court for everybody."Having him is a blessing," Kimbrough said. "Everybody wants to crash down on him. He sees the court really well and gets us cutting for easy layups."Richard Obert has been covering high school sports since the 1980s for The Arizona Republic. Venezuela’s opposition candidate Edmundo González calls for presidential elections
Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez addresses lawmakers next to a picture of former President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, at the National Assembly in Caracas, Venezuela, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. (AP Photo/Ariana Cubillos, File)2026-05-30T20:11:56Z CARACAS (AP) — Venezuela ‘s former opposition candidate Edmundo González called on Saturday for presidential elections as the five-month mark of interim President Delcy Rodríguez’s administration approaches in the wake of the U.S. military intervention that ousted Nicolás Maduro in early January. The 76-year-old former diplomat was recognized by several countries as the legitimate winner of the July 2024 elections amid a post-election crisis and street protests as the opposition alleged fraud.Electoral records that showed González’s victory over Maduro were deemed credible by international observers. In a message posted on social media, González stated that it is time to “build the conditions for holding presidential elections that serve as citizen instruments for change” and contribute to the re-institutionalization of the country and lay the foundations for a stable government. His message comes just shy of the five-month anniversary of Rodríguez assuming power on Jan. 5, following the arrest of Maduro and his wife, who are being prosecuted in the United States.Maduro’s former ally Rodríguez was recognized as president by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, and the two countries have since made progress on a series of agreements that include the lifting of sanctions and negotiations in the oil and energy sectors, as well as the normalization of diplomatic relations. Neither Caracas nor Washington has given any indication that elections are imminent in Venezuela. The U.S. has recognized Rodríguez as Venezuela’s sole head of state, allowing her to reestablish ties with Western banks and more freely work with U.S. investors. Read More According to González, an electoral process must have “independent referees,” national and international observation and political pluralism, among other conditions, with the release of political prisoners and “an end to the persecution” being non-negotiable. The opposition leader asserted that he is the “guardian” of the mandate of his constituents, who chose “freedom” for Venezuela in the 2024 election. Since September that year, González has been in exile in Spain after Maduro’s administration issued an arrest warrant for him on charges of conspiracy, usurpation and the falsification of public documents — charges that he has vehemently denied.González gained prominence when he was named as the substitute candidate for opposition leader María Corina Machado, who was barred from participating in the elections.Corina Machado recently met with opposition leaders in Panama, advocating for a democratic transition in Venezuela. She insisted she would return before the end of the year to run for president.

ESPN boxing tonight: Stephanie Han, Holly Holm, Amanda Serrano in action
The much-anticipated WBA lightweight title fight between El Paso's Stephanie Han (12-0, 3 KO's) and Albuquerque's Holly Holm (34-3-3) is here. The rematch of the first fight, which Han won via technical unanimous decision on Jan. 3, 2026, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has created a buzz in El Paso. The Han vs. Holm fight will be at the El Paso County Coliseum and is officially a sellout. The Han and Holm fight is part of four championship bouts that feature all women. Popular Puerto Rican featherweight champion Amanda Serrano is also featured on the card and will fight Germany's Cheyenne Hanson in a featherweight title fight. Here is a look at how to watch the fight if you can't attend live in person. How to watch the Han vs. Holm 2, 3 other title fightsTV and start time of coverage: ESPN with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT.Lourdes Juarez (39-4, 5 KO's) vs. Yokasta Valle (34-3, 10 KO's), WBC junior flyweight titleDesley Robinson (11-3, 4 KO's) vs. Mary Spencer (10-3, 6 KO's), 10 rounds, unified world middleweight championshipAmanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 KO's) vs. Cheyenne Hanson (17-2, 13 KO's), 10 rounds, unified featherweight championshipHan vs. Holm full fight cardThe preliminaries will be on EPSN+ and begin at 3:15 p.m. MT/4:15 p.m. CTElise Soto (10-0, 9 KO's) vs. Thalia Joseline Limon (4-1, 3 KO's), 4 rounds, featherweightsNazarena Romero (14-1-2, 8 KO's) vs. Maria Salinas (27-14-6), 8 rounds, junior featherweightsMiranda Reyes (8-3-1, 3 KO's) vs. Camilla Panatta (8-3, 1 KO), 8 rounds, junior lightweightsAlexander Gyeche (11-0, 7 KO's) vs. Joshua Montoya 7-4-2), 8 rounds, junior featherweightsYesica Nery Plata (30-3, 3 KO's) vs. Brook Sibrian (9-2, 4 KO's),8 rounds, junior flyweightsHan vs Holm ticketsThe fight card was sold out on Thursday night according to MVP.Betting odds for Han vs. Holm and Serrano vs. Hanson Han is the minus-600 favorite vs. Holm according to FanDuel. Serrano is the minus-5000 favorite vs. Hanson according to FanDuel.ESPN predictionsChristy Martin, former junior middleweight champion and member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame Han by controversial decision.Ginny Fuchs, WBC interim junior bantamweight championIt could go either way, but I think the fight goes to a decision and Han takes the win again.Cecilia Comunales, former lightweight championHan by decision if she follows the same game plan from the first fight and makes those small adjustments -- more jab and left hook/cross -- to create more separation while protecting herself from headbutts when Holm tries to get inside.Chris Namus, former junior middleweight champion and current 'ESPN KnockOut' boxing analystBased on cold, hard logic and what's already happened, I'd bet it'll be a unanimous decision for Han. If Holm ends up winning, it won't be by decision, it'll be by landing a punch while she's planted. Neither of them is a power puncher, so that's a long shot. But maybe if Holm manages to catch Han at just the right moment while she's planted firmly, Holm could get a knockout. That's the only way I think she could take the victory. But to me, that option is practically nonexistent, so it's a unanimous decision for Han.Felix F. Jay Williams responds to critics of Get Up’s ‘Life Alert’ SGA segment
Credit: Credit: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images, ESPNThere have been many vocal dissenters in sports media recently over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his style of play.Few have been more consistent and harsher than ESPN NBA analyst Jay Williams.SGA snagged his second NBA MVP in a row this season and has the Oklahoma City Thunder one game away from returning to the NBA Finals with a chance to repeat as NBA champions. He could also take home a second Finals MVP as well, cementing himself as one of the best players of a generation. However, SGA has also developed a reputation as a flopper and “foul-baiter,” using that to pad his stats and create a brand of basketball that draws intense criticism.Williams has been at the forefront of that critique, saying last week that he finds it very hard to root for Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder.Last week, Williams scorched SGA and the Thunder over this style of play and how it makes them unlikable.“When you watch OKC play, every single call, every single time they shoot, SGA is landing in somebody’s region, he’s falling down,” Williams said last Friday. “And you’re just like, ‘How do I root for that? I see why I can root for [Victor Wembanyama]. I can’t root for that.’ As a fan of the game, I just want to see the game respected. And there are times when I watch OKC play, I don’t feel like they respect the process of the game.”The ESPN NBA analyst also mockingly walked off the set on Thursday when Michael Wilbon suggested that if Oklahoma City wins another title, little kids all across America will start learning how to flop. This Friday, Williams took things up a notch, leading a segment on Get Up called “Life Alert with SGA” that highlighted all the times the two-time MVP hit the ground unnecessarily.Nah man I’ve NEVER seen a back to back MVP with worse PR than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lmaoooJay Williams just introduced a new segment called ‘Life Alert with SGA’ “Help me I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” pic.twitter.com/2hrRnaR4ZH— Hater Report (@HaterReport) May 29, 2026All of that scrutiny isn’t going unnoticed, and Williams has been getting pushback from Thunder fans and others, who think he’s just being a hater or jealous of an NBA player who is putting up better numbers than he did in his career.Williams responded to one such critic on Saturday, saying that if he’s getting personal attacks, he must be doing something right. One thing I’ve learned in sports, business, and media: when people can’t attack the argument, they attack the messenger. I showed three clips. The conversation became about my résumé. That’s usually a sign we’re no longer discussing the actual point. https://t.co/JPg7Jxzwga— Jay Williams (@RealJayWilliams) May 30, 2026“One thing I’ve learned in sports, business, and media: when people can’t attack the argument, they attack the messenger,” Williams wrote on X. “I showed three clips. The conversation became about my résumé. That’s usually a sign we’re no longer discussing the actual point.”When that critic said he was upset with how ESPN and Get Up were framing the series, Williams responded, saying the critique was hypocritical. You’re doing the exact thing you’re accusing us of doing. Taking one segment, ignoring the larger body of work, and using it to create a narrative. We’ve spent far more time discussing SGA’s greatness and OKC’s dominance than a 90 second clip. The algorithm rewarded that clip.… https://t.co/OYGEzDrGtS— Jay Williams (@RealJayWilliams) May 30, 2026“You’re doing the exact thing you’re accusing us of doing. Taking one segment, ignoring the larger body of work, and using it to create a narrative,” wrote Williams. “We’ve spent far more time discussing SGA’s greatness and OKC’s dominance than a 90-second clip. The algorithm rewarded that clip. That doesn’t make it representative. If we’re evaluating coverage, the standard should be the full body of work, not the one moment people chose to amplify.”There’s truth in that sentiment. We and other sites gravitated towards the Life Alert segment way more than any other critical discussion of the Thunder-Spurs series on Friday’s Get Up. Still, perception is often reality, so it’s unlikely that either side will convince the other that they’re correct in this scenario. And if the Thunder lose Game 7, god help the SGA fans out there…The post Jay Williams responds to critics of Get Up’s ‘Life Alert’ SGA segment appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Could Kyler Murray be next in line as the Vikings starting QB?
The pressure could be on for Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy. When McCarthy, who started at signal caller for Minnesota last weekend after dealing with injury issues, was asked recently about his relationship with incoming veteran and former Cardinals starter Kyler Murray, he described a dynamic similar to that of classmates who are both learning from their instructors. But it appears Murray might be learning things quicker than anyone would have imagined. On Friday's edition of NFL Live, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported what he's been hearing about Murray out of the franchise's offseason workouts, and apparently, things are off to a great start."I talked to sources in the building who said Kyler Murray has handled himself like an alpha quarterback," Fowler said. "He's walked in with the experience and the swagger you would expect from a guy who's been to Pro Bowls and had success. He's also taken the offense very quickly; he's absorbed it in a hurry, so the expectation league-wide is that he will have the leg up."Kyler Murray has reportedly picked up the offense quickly, absorbed the playbook "in a hurry," and is handling himself "like an alpha QB," per @JFowlerESPNpic.twitter.com/lfXz7Uzqfi— SleeperNFL (@SleeperNFL) May 29, 2026So, is it possible Murray could end up as the starter in Minnesota? It's beginning to sound more and more like it each day. McCarthy was inconsistent when he was healthy enough to take starting snaps last year, and missed his rookie season due to injury. And while Murray is coming off an injury of his own, he is still a seven-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowler who has spent his entire career as a starter. But don't think things are completely locked up in Murray's favor yet, either. While Fowler reports Murray is ahead in the battle, he also noted that the Vikings are impressed with a lot of what McCarthy is doing."However, J.J. McCarthy, I'm told that he's made improvements that the Vikings coaches have noted and have told him so, things like layering the ball a little better, using all the clubs in your bag, not throwing a fastball all the time," Fowler said. "He's shown some things this spring that have been impressive so far."This article originally appeared on Touchdown Wire: Could Kyler Murray be next in line as the Vikings starting QB?

Lino starFlamengo “signed off” from the Brasileirão this Saturday (30) with a 3-0 win over Coritiba at the Maracanã, in the 18th round of the 2026 Brasileirão.Now, the Rio and Paraná sides enter “vacation mode” during the World Cup break in the United States, Mexico and Canada, and return to the Brasileirão at the end of July. The truth is, the match was a “red-and-black monologue,” with Flamengo taking the lead after just 10 minutes.Coxa’s goalkeeper played the ball out badly, Pedro produced a backheel assist, and Samuel Lino opened the scoring.Still in the first half, Pedro Rocha made a hard foul on Vitão and was shown a straight red card, leaving Coritiba in a very difficult situation. After the break, Flamengo’s control of the game turned into goals. After Pedro hit the post with a header, the “fired-up No. 9” made the most of Samuel Lino’s low cross and doubled the lead. With less than 25 minutes gone in the second half, Samuel Lino struck a lovely shot from inside the box, the ball took a deflection off a defender and looped over goalkeeper Pedro Rangel. 👀 Under Jesus’ watchAfter winning the Saudi league title with Al-Nassr, Jorge Jesus went to the Maracanã to “relive old memories” with the fans. The Portuguese coach made history at Flamengo by winning the 2019 Brasileirão and Libertadores titles.🚦 The situation nowWith a return to winning ways after two rounds, Flamengo reached 34 points and stayed in second place — four points behind leaders Palmeiras and four points ahead of Fluminense.
