SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWashington Nationals use wild 7th inning rally to beat the San Diego PadresWASHINGTON, DC - MAY 30: CJ Abrams #5 of the Washington Nationals slides into second as Xander Bogaerts #2 of the San Diego Padres fields the throw during the game at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 30, 2026 in Washington, District of Columbia. (Photo by Rob Tringali/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images When you have an elite offense, you are truly never out of a game. Nationals fans, including myself, are learning that this season. Even when the offense has nothing to offer early in the game, they have the ability to turn it on at any moment. That is exactly what they did in a crazy 7th inning rally this afternoon. For the first six innings, the offense and the atmosphere was lifeless. It was a nice Nationals Park crowd, but the Padres took the fans out of the game. Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. all homered off of Foster Griffin. The Tatis homer was his first of the season, and he celebrated like a major monkey was taken off his back.Besides the solo homers, Foster Griffin was solid. He gave the Nats 5 clean innings to keep them in the game. However, getting a rally going against Michael King felt like a tall task. Besides a Drew Millas solo homer, the Nats had nothing to offer against the right hander. It looked a lot like last year, with a steady flow of ground outs. Through six innings, King was absolutely cruising, but everything changed in an instant. CJ Abrams started things off with an innocent seeming base hit. Then Jose Tena struck what appeared to be a double play ball. However, Tatis made a bad throw to second base and everyone was safe. This really seemed to rattle King because he totally lost the zone. He walked the light hitting Jorbit Vivas and then hit Dylan Crews with a pitch to make it a one run game. There were still no outs, and King’s day was done. The craziness continued though. Drew Millas hit what appeared to be a force out to tie the game, but Xander Bogaerts missed the bag at second base and everyone was safe again. And the Nats tie the game on Drew Millas' grounder to second, with Xander Bogaerts' foot never touching the bag as Dylan Crews slid in. Bases still loaded, still nobody out in the 7th.— Mark Zuckerman (@MarkZuckerman) May 30, 2026It was very close and the Padres challenged it, but the call on the field was upheld. Former Nats pitcher and current Padres manager Craig Stammen was still not happy, and got himself tossed. It was his first career ejection as a player or manager. The Nats kept pouring it on from there. Curtis Mead came in to pinch hit and calmly took a walk to get another run in. A couple batters later, Luis Garcia drove in two more with a base hit. However, my favorite run scoring play from the inning came when Daylen Lile beat out what seemed to be a tailormade double play.Daylen Lile RBINats lead 7-3 in the 7th pic.twitter.com/xViGPf1B1I— Kev (@klwoodjr) May 30, 2026Lile’s hustle says a lot about him as a player and the Nats culture. The Nats left fielder has been struggling lately and easily could have not gone 100% down the line. However, he immediately put his head down and went into a full on sprint. He just barely beat the throw and a run came in to score.Having that extra run made me feel a little more comfortable when Gus Varland totally lost the strike zone in the next inning. Varland got two quick outs before totally melting down. He allowed a run on a double to Machado and then threw 8 straight balls to close out his outing. Clayton Beeter came in and saved the day, but that was a tense situation.Curtis Mead made things a bit less tense when he blew the game wide open in the top of the 9th. Jacob Young had gotten a bad jump on a squeeze play and got thrown out at home for the second out. Mead picked up his teammate by drilling a double down the line to score two runs and make it 9-4.CURTIS MEAD MAKES IT 9-4‼️#Natitudepic.twitter.com/LDBhlfBM2M— SleeperNationals (@SleeperNats) May 30, 2026As I wrote about today, Mead has been absolutely outstanding for this team. He did not even start this game, but still made a big impact. Mead got that RBI walk in his first at bat and then got a clutch double to ice the game.Clayton Beeter pitched in front of a raucous Nationals Park crowd that included a large tarps off section. The crowd was chanting and cheering the whole inning. Beeter put up a zero and got the Curly W. The fans were loving every moment of it, and the Nats got over .500 again. I wanted to shout out Brad Lord as well, who was an unsung hero in this game. His two scoreless innings helped the Nats stay in the game. He is such a weapon out of the bullpen, and I think he deserves to be put in even higher leverage spots. I love how he goes after hitters. This was a game where they could have easily rolled over. However, they did not do that and that shows something about the character of this group. Even when it looks grim, the Nats offense can strike at any moment. Now, the Nats have a chance to go for yet another series win to finish out May tomorrow.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWest Virginia vs Kentucky baseball live box score: Stats from NCAA Baseball Championship GameWest Virginia vs Kentucky baseball live box score: Stats from NCAA Baseball Championship Game originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Kentucky moved into the winner bracket with a win over Wake Forest. Today's matchup included familiar foes. West Virginia and Kentucky have faced each other three times in the NCAA Regionals over last four years. Splitting that series 2-2. Kentucky manager Nick Mingione is not overlooking the Mountaineers. "You don't get to host a regional without being a balanced, well-coached team", Mingione said. "And that's what West Virginia is." The balance of pressure is on West Virginia. This will be only the 3rd time the Mountaineers have hosted a regional. West Virginia is also chasing its elusive first ever College Baseball World Series berth in program history. The balance of expectation is in Kentucky's favor. The Wildcats are playing with house money. One of the last teams to make the field, expectations are low and they can play loose. 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship123456789RHEWest Virginia (40-14)0023111882Kentucky (32-21)420020891West Virgina vs Kentucky baseball box score: Live stats from NCAA Baseball ChampionshipWest VirginiaBatterPOSABRHRBIBBSOAVGOBP17Matt IneichSS410011.299.4332Gavin KellyC322310.381.4826Paul SchoenfeldCF301000.346.44311Sean SmithDH200101.316.408Matthew GravelineLF400002.283.3665Armani Guzman1B322010.301.40012Brodie Kresser2B200000.289.39724Ben LumsdenRF311011.246.3628Tyrus Hall3B322211.275.405Total187324340534621362B: Guzman 1 (18)Hall 2 (7)H: Kelly 2 (15)RBI: Kelly 3 (53)Smith 1 (46)Hall 2 (26)PitcherPOSIPHRERBBSOBFERA15Maxx YehlP0.22401072.129Reese BassingerP1.21000253.018Ian KornP3.264202182.7Total6.09821430Bassinger 15 (12 strikes)Korn 70 (51 strikes)Yehl 36 (15 strikes)KentuckyBatterPOSABRHRBIBBSOAVGOBP37Jayce TharnishCF321010.346.4086Tyler BellSS421001.341.50810Luke LawrenceDH401100.338.44823Hudson Brown1B110000.331.4689Ethan Hindle2B322300.310.43324Braxton Van CleaveRF311201.262.32634Carson HansenLF201001.237.3501Caeden Cloud3B301001.210.33329Owen JenkinsC301200.246.301Total178131545735123642B: Lawrence 1 (13)H: Van Cleave 1 (6)RBI: Lawrence 1 (42)Hindle 3 (50)Van Cleave 2 (25)Jenkins 2 (17)PitcherPOSIPHRERBBSOBFERA36Nate HarrisP3.255524196.15Jack BennettP2.03220196.316Ira AustinP0.20000128.838Ryan MullanP0.0000000-19Jack SamsP0.20102052.2Total7.08875637Bennett 26 (19 strikes)Austin 9 (5 strikes)Harris 68 (37 strikes)Sams 20 (7 strikes)How to watch: West Virginia vs Kentukcy 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship Game Date: Saturday, May 30Time: 5 p.m. ETTV: SEC NetworkMore NCAA NewsArkansas vs. Nebraska softball box score: Final stats from Women's College World Series gameDeion Sanders buyout, contract details as Colorado Buffaloes coachArkansas vs. Georgia box score: Final stats from 2026 SEC Baseball ChampionshipBill Belichick, Jordon Hudson at Kentucky Derby leaves everyone saying the same thingDemond Williams bombshell could have resulted in Lane Kiffin fired by LSU0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

He gave up two hits on his first five pitches this time, with Bazzana doubling and scoring on Ramirez's double.Dion allowed six runs in his lone inning of relief, fueled by errors by third baseman Ramirez and left fielder Stuart Fairchild. The Guardians lost right fielder Angel Martinez to left foot inflammation in the fifth. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWorld No. 252 Soo Bin Joo leads by four shots after windy ShopRite LPGAGALLOWAY, N.J. — Soo Bin Joo thrived in a raging wind off the Atlantic Ocean inlets Friday for a 3-under 68, closing with a long two-putt birdie on the 18th hole and watching her lead to grow to four shots by the end of a taxing day at the ShopRite LPGA.Joo, whose only professional win was on the Epson Tour two years ago, finished two different rounds at Seaview Hotel at 8-under 134.“I was barely making pars on the golf course today and yesterday was like going for birdies on every single hole,” Joo said. “So different game plan and a different mindset. I think that put me in a good position today.”Japanese twins Chizzy and Aki Iwai each scratched out a 68 and were in the group of players four shots behind that included Celine Boutier of France (72), Somi Lee of South Korea (69) and Israeli player Laetitia Beck, who started with a one-shot lead and tumbled to a 75.“Today was extremely windy, so definitely was much harder to judge club selections, and putts were also much harder,” Beck said. “That’s where I pretty much struggled today. I didn’t make putts.”That’s wasn’t a problem for Joo, who took only 25 putts. She dropped only one shot, on the opening hole, and wondered if it was a sign of what was to come.“I almost shank my 3-wood on the first tee. I mean, it looked way bad because of the wind,” Joo said. “I knew that it was going to play as a different golf course, like a totally different golf course comparing to yesterday, so I was trying to stay mentally calm and also physically calm, too.”The wind not only made some of the holes on the Bay course play longer, even the holes with a helping wind were difficult in trying to judge the distance.Eight players failed to break 80, while 11 players broke 70, most of them in the morning before the wind began to strengthen.Charley Hull, at No. 7 the only player from the top 10 in the world, followed a 74 with a 75 and missed the cut. The ShopRite LPGA is one of two LPGA tournaments played over 54 holes. This field is on the weaker side mainly because of scheduling. The New Jersey tournament is a week before the U.S. Women’s Open across the country at Riviera in Los Angeles. The cut came at 3-over 145.Joo is the No. 252 player in the world, with her best success coming in the fall when she is trying to get back a full card. Now she has a four-shot lead as she goes for her first LPGA title.“I started playing golf because I want to win a tournament on LPGA, so it will be super fun, very exciting,” she said. “But right now I just want to get a hot shower. So cold, yeah. Freezing.”ShopRite LPGA Classic - Final RdTune into the final round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic at Seaview’s Bay Course in Galloway, N.J.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMarlins could find Pete Fairbanks' trade market shrinking with widening ERAMarlins could find Pete Fairbanks' trade market shrinking with widening ERA originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Possessing a power arm with high-leverage experience, Miami Marlins relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks remains a top candidate to be traded before the MLB deadline, despite a bloated earned-run average. The eight-year veteran could have scared off a few interested parties Friday night, yielding MJ Melendez's walk-off, two-run home run, leading the New York Mets to a 9-7, 10-inning victory at Citi Field. With Saturday's 6-1 loss, the Marlins dropped their fourth straight, slipping to 26-33 and six games out of the NL Wild Card race. If they continue to falter, Fairbanks, who will be a free agent next winter, generally would have a number of clubs inquiring about his price tag. With Fairbanks' 7.53 ERA albatross, what type of deal could Marlins general manager Gabe Kapler hope to negotiate with one of the league's bigger names?Marlins' Pete Fairbanks needs smoother outingsFairbanks faced two batters Friday, releasing four pitches. He forced leadoff batter Juan Soto to fly out to center field on his first offering. Melendez then faced three straight fastballs, slamming a 98-mph four-seamer 373 feet to keep the Marlins skidding. With Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman and Houston Astros' Josh Hader expected to be dangled to contenders, Fairbanks likely would be a fallback option for most front offices.Three times this season, Fairbanks yielded three earned runs during three of his 16 appearances. Two of those appearances bookended his time on the league's paternity list. He had two blown saves. But he also thrived in the 2020 playoffs, earning three saves. He also posted 96 career saves. Signed to a $13 million deal, Fairbanks' prorated salary could prove an enticing investment for deep-pocketed contenders. Can they afford to add his ERA?More MLB news:Astros GM Dana Brown contemplating trading Isaac ParedesAstros' Spencer Arrighetti outduels Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi, continues hot streakBlue Jays' Patrick Corbin silences 1,000-hit celebration by Orioles' Pete AlonsoHow New York Yankees are impacted by new MLB salary cap0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCanada bet on health, speed and belief as Marsch names World Cup squadCanada coach Jesse Marsch named his 26-man World Cup squad in a primetime TV address to the co-host nation on Friday night.Photograph: Tony Gutierrez/APThe only surprise is that we were surprised. In his final moments of deliberation Jesse Marsch looked at the options in front of him and chose speed. Why change the habit of a lifetime?Jacob Shaffelburg was the final winner on Friday night as Marsch named his 26-man World Cup squad in a primetime TV address to the co-host nation. The LAFC winger was likely Mr 26 as Canada’s American head coach cut six names from a group of 32 he’d named earlier in the week. Fitness, particularly in defense, was the factor which had forced Marsch to bring the expanded group to camp in Charlotte. Most acutely, the health or otherwise of captain Alphonso Davies occupies so many Canadian thoughts and will continue to do so. The Bayern Munich man didn’t make it as far as North Carolina but will join his 25 teammates on home soil in the coming days.Related: Canada World Cup 2026 team guideIn his late shuffling Marsch stacked defense and midfield and named four strikers. Nonetheless he’s adamant that the slew of health issues won’t affect his squad on their mission to deliver history at home.“Guys are getting healthy, I promise you,” said Marsch. “The reason we put this squad together is because these guys are all trending in the direction, they’re looking ready to go. We have really our best group of 26 players that this country has ever assembled at any one time.”GoalkeepersIt is both a quirk and a concern that the one area of the roster which was fully known ahead of time also contains Canada’s biggest unknown.Marsch has done many things in two whirlwind years at the helm where Fifa ranking and World Cup expectations rose. What he hasn’t done, remarkably, is pick a No 1. His indecision between Maxime Crépeau and Dayne St Clair rolls on to Edmonton on Monday night where Canada face Uzbekistan in the first of two pre-tournament tests. Both will get 45 minutes, continuing this prolonged timeshare between the posts. What hasn’t helped is that both come into the World Cup on the back of struggles in MLS. Just as Crépeau felt slightly favored he’s been torched for 38 goals in 14 games this season. His experience and authority may swing it but the indecision must end.DefenseThe first men’s World Cup to land on Canadian soil took its sweet time getting here. For Marsch’s injury-ravaged defense, every extra minute has been priceless. The past 15 months have been spent with the entirety of what had emerged through the 2024 Copa América odyssey as Canada’s first-choice back four absent. Marsch’s leading central defensive options tell the tale: Moïse Bombito (broken leg) hasn’t played a club match since October; Derek Cornelius (hamstring) not since November and Alfie Jones (ankle ligament) December.Yung duo Ralph Priso and Jamie Knight-Lebel travelled to Charlotte with hope but Marsch clearly saw enough from the recuperating trio to stick with them, Luc de Fougerolles and veteran Joel Waterman offering cover. Barring setbacks, Bombito and Cornelius will surely start the opener against Bosnia & Herzegovina.Marsch has all but ruled Davies out of that historic day in Toronto, Canada’s captain recovering from yet another muscular issue. In spite of all the progress made under Marsch and the proliferation of Canadian talent across European leagues, Davies remains the one indisputably world class player on the roster. Getting him back for either Qatar or the final group game against Switzerland feels imperative. In such circumstances, the fitness and form of right back Alistair Johnston is pivotal. The versatility and dependability of Niko Sigur could tell too.MidfieldThe system which Marsch honed at club level has, with some tweaks, worked a charm with this gifted Canadian generation. Much of the relentlessness of the Rouge Bull way starts with vice captain Steph Eustaquio haring across every inch of the middle. His partnership with Ismaël Koné is locked in. After a stellar Serie A campaign Koné feels primed to put a major imprint on this tournament. Anderlecht’s Nathan Saliba is another on the rise and will offer energy off the bench. The biggest dilemmas for the coaching staff were out wide. While Tajon Buchanan owns the right, the left looked stacked. While Ali Ahmed has looked to make the position his own, Liam Millar finished his season in brilliant form, helping Hull City reach the Premier League. Meanwhile Marsch heavily recruited Canadian-born Mexican international Marcelo Flores and after a January switch, saw Flores light up the March window. That piled pressure on MLS duo Jayden Nelson and Shaffelburg, a breakout star of that Copa América run which gave the Marsch era instant lift-off.Nelson, ultimately, misses out but with some cutting up top, Marsch found room for Shaffelburg, another on his way back to fitness. But could a man with a moniker as good as the Messi of the Maritimes really have been omitted?AttackAn irony of the year leading into this tournament was that Canada’s defense was threadbare yet water-tight while its attack was fully-healthy but mostly anemic. An irony and a serious concern.Marsch insists his team will score. Jonathan David, as ever, is likeliest to do so even if his maiden season at Juventus was the least prolific of his career and in Marsch’s system he’s deployed deeper. Cyle Larin’s World Cup prospects looked grim around Christmas but the veteran has been invigorated on loan at Southampton and will lead the line in front of David. The only thing that could stop Promise David scoring goals in Belgium proved to be a ruptured hip flexor. His rapid recovery has been, according to Marsch, “a revelation”. The always-quotable powerhouse put it another way this week: “I think I could regrow a limb if I lost it.”Tani Oluwaseyi rounding out a leaner attacking corps meant last-minute cuts for both Jacen Russell-Rowe of Toulouse and Daniel Jebbison, who switched his allegiance to Canada in 2025 but hadn’t yet found his feet.Canada 2026 World Cup roster(First-time World Cup indicated with an asterisk, caps and goals listed in parentheses)Goalkeepers (3) Maxime Crépeau* (Orlando City, 30/0) Dayne St. Clair, (Inter Miami, 19/0), Owen Goodman* (Barnsley, 0/0)Defenders (9) Moise Bombito* (Nice, 19/0), Derek Cornelius (Marseille, 42/1), Alphonso Davies (Captain; Bayern Munich, 58/15), Luc de Fougerolles* (Dender, 11/0), Alistair Johnston (Celtic, 56/1), Alfie Jones* (Middlesbrough, 1/0), Richie Laryea (Toronto FC, 73/1), Niko Sigur* (Hajduk Split, 17/2), Joel Waterman (Chicago Fire, 17/0)Midfielders (4) Mathieu Choinière* (LAFC, 22/0), Stephen Eustaquio (LAFC, 54/4), Ismaël Koné (Sassuolo, 38/4), Nathan Saliba* (Anderlecht, 13/2)Attacking midfielders/wingers (6) Ali Ahmed* (Norwich City, 24/1), Tajon Buchanan (Villarreal, 58/8), Marcelo Flores* (Tigres, 2/0). SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNick Hamilton, Silver Lake softball reach state championship mountain topThere’s been one singular goal for Silver Lake softball this season: Win it all. The Eagles accomplished their biggest goal with a 4-0 win over Southeast of Saline in the Class 3A State Championship in Lawrence. “Feels good, feels good to finish,” head coach Nick Hamilton said. Hamilton has guided the Eagles to the state title game four previous times since 2019. They all resulted in runner-up finishes, until Saturday, May 30. Hamilton and Silver Lake reached the mountain top hoisting the coveted title. It's the school's 14th state championship, and first since 2018. Leading Silver Lake was starting pitcher Riley Mohler. She simply pitched a gem. “That was really big for me,” Mohler said. “Once regionals and state hit, I was really on it. I knew I had a job to do and my team knew as well. I think we really performed out there.”Silver Lake scored its opening run in the top of the third inning. Kailyn Hanni, Saylor Liggatt and Taylor Swygert loaded the bases via a walk. On a six pitch at-bat, Paige Heiman was walked allowing a run to score. The Eagles rode their 1-0 advantage into the sixth inning before adding some insurance. Audrey Kirk nailed an RBI single scoring Mohler giving Silver Lake a 2-0 lead. The Eagles would score on back-to-back wild pitches to double the lead a few batters later.“The biggest thing for them was just trusting the process after being here twice. They just had to trust that at some point, they were going to find that ball at the right time and find the luck.”Mohler retired the final eight batters as Silver Lake's defense was on the mark throughout the title game. “They are one of a kind,” Mohler said. “I have been on very few teams that have a great defense like us. We work really great as a team and it really shows on the field that we are a family.”One of the biggest reasons for Silver Lake's success has been their trust. Hamilton explained that no player grew frustrated after many close title calls. The players trusted the staff and they reaped the benefits, finally lifting the state title trophy.Liam Keating covers high school sports and Washburn University athletics for The Topeka Capital-Journal. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMorrow has 17 points and 14 rebounds, Sun beats Sparks 84-81 to snap a 3-game skidHARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Aneesah Morrow had 17 points and 14 rebounds, her fourth consecutive game with a double-double, and the Connecticut Sun beat the Los Angeles Sparks 84-81 on Saturday night at PeoplesBank Arena. Morrow leads the WNBA with seven double-doubles this season. Kennedy Burke scored 14 points for the Sun. Leila Lacan, who made her season debut, and Diamond Miller added 12 points apiece.Connecticut (2-8) had lost three in a row, all by double figures. The Sun tied their season high with 11 steals.Ariel Atkins and Rae Burrell led the Sparks (4-4) with 16 points apiece, Erica Wheeler scored 13 and Dearica Hamby 11. Ogwumike finished with 12 points and three rebounds.Wheeler made a layup 27 seconds into the fourth quarter and the Sparks didn't make another field goal until she made another layup with 3:38 to play. Nneka Ogwumike followed with a three-point play and Atkins hit two free throws to make it a three-point game less than a minute later. Burrell's 3-pointer made it 81-79 with 52 seconds lefts, but the Sparks got no closer. Ogwumike has 3,315 career rebounds to move into a tie with Tamika Catchings for fifth on the WNBA’s career list. Connecticut's Brittney Griner (rib injury) returned from a four-game absence but left the game for good late in the first half after she was apparently poked in the eye. She finished with nine points. Lacan helped Basket Landes to a championship, and was named finals MVP, in the top French professional league earlier this month. She averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 steals as a rookie last season in 25 games for Connecticut and the Sun were 2-17 before the point guard returned from international duty and went 9-16 after. Kelsey Plum (ankle) missed her second consecutive game for the Sparks. Plum, the WNBA’s leading scorer at 28.6 points per game, will be re-evaluated on Tuesday. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBiggersville hires Tyler Rosenthal to lead football programTyler Rosenthal is taking over one of the state’s best small-school football programs of the past decade, and he’s more than a little excited.Rosenthal is the new head coach at Biggersville. He replaces Case Ingram, who left after five seasons to take the head post at Saltillo. Ingram led Biggersville to its first state championship in 2023, and the Lions have gone 93-21 over the past nine seasons and six times have recorded double-digit win totals.“Super, super pumped, super excited,” Rosenthal said. “Excited to be at a great program like Biggersville. I’ve had tremendous community support already, coming in after a great coach and a great man, coach Ingram. I’m just trying to keep things going and put my own spin on it.”Rosenthal, 35, has spent the past five seasons as defensive coordinator at Amory. He helped head coach Brooks Dampeer lead the Panthers to four winning seasons and nine playoff wins over the past five years.“Coach Dampeer meant the world to me,” Rosenthal said. “He gave me my first shot to call one side of the football. Unbelievable human, very, very organized to the T. His organization skills, play-calling skills, leading kids – I’m taking a lot of what he’s doing with me, from what I’ve learned from him.”Biggersville has been a highly athletic team this past decade, although it’s graduating a lot of talent from last year’s team, including two-way stars Zialis Blackmon, Xae Mayes and Brooks Seago. But the Lions have made a habit of reloading, and Rosenthal’s approach on the field will be anything but timid, no matter who’s out there.“Offensively I want to be a first-step football team,” he said. “We’re going to run the ball, and we’re going to spread it out, and we’re going to throw it, and we’re going to get it to our best players. On defense, we are going to relentlessly pursue the football and just rally to the ball, force turnovers, get lined up and play hard.”Rosenthal is the son of Bill Rosenthal, who was a head coach at Saltillo, Holly Springs and Oak Hill Academy.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrayden Randle walks it off as Ole Miss wins marathon thriller to open NCAA TournamentOle Miss junior shortstop Brayden Randle – who entered Friday night’s NCAA Tournament matchup against Arizona State as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning – hit a walk-off single in the 14th inning, leading the No. 2 seeded Rebels past the No. 3 seeded Sun Devils 7-6 and into the winner’s bracket of the Lincoln Regional at Haymarket Park.Ole Miss (37-21) faces host Nebraska on Saturday night. The Rebels’ bullpen duo of sophomore Walker Hooks and junior Hudson Calhoun pitched seven scoreless innings to close out the game. Sophomore outfielder Hayden Federico led the Rebels with four hits, and senior third baseman Judd Utermark and senior outfielder Tristan Bissetta each hit home runs.Friday was a matchup of ace lefties in Rebels stalwart Hunter Elliott and Arizona State’s Cole Carlon, though neither had their best performance. Elliott, the lone holdover from the 2022 national title team, surrendered four earned runs over five innings of work with four strikeouts and four walks. Carlon, a first-team All-Big 12 pick, surrendered six earned runs over 6 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts.Arizona State’s (37-20) Nu’u Contrades hit two home runs, though star outfielder Landon Hairston – the 2026 Big 12 Player of the Year – went 0 for 4 at the plate. The first four batters of the game reached on Elliott, and the Sun Devils scored two in the first inning on a walk and three singles. Utermark hit the 50th home run of his record-setting career in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half.Contrades led off the third with solo home run to deep left, and the Rebels responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior first baseman Will Furniss tied the game 3-3 with a two-run double before senior outfielder Tristan Bissetta scorched a two-run home run 432 feet to right that put Ole Miss in front for the first time. Junior second baseman Dom Decker’s two-out single in the fourth put the Rebels ahead by three.Arizona State’s Dean Toigo hit a solo homer in the fifth to break up the Rebels’ run of five straight runs scored, though Elliott stranded runners on second and third to end the inning.Hooks entered the game in the sixth and retired the side in order but surrendered a two-run home run to Contrades in the seventh that tied the game 6-6. Hooks pitched 5 1/3 innings in relief, surrendering two earned runs with four strikeouts. He made a season-high 75 pitches. The Rebels loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth with singles from Furniss and Federico and a walk from junior catcher Austin Fawley, but sophomore shortstop Owen Paino struck out to end the inning. After Hooks retired the side in order in the top of the ninth, Decker drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a groundout. But freshman first baseman Luke Romine – who entered the game after Furniss was pulled for a pinch runner in the eighth – struck out to send the game to extras.Back-to-back infield singles from Federico and Randle set the Rebels up to win the game in the bottom of the 10th, but Fawley and Paino both struck out to end the inning.Calhoun entered the game in the 11th with a runner on second and got the final two outs – the last a strikeout of Contrades following an intentional walk to Hairston. Calhoun allowed just one hit over his 3 2/3 innings of work.Federico’s one-out double and an Arizona State wild pitch set the winning run up at third in the 12th inning, but Federico was thrown out at home on a grounder from Randle. Romine and Bissetta led off the 14th with walks, and Federico legged out an infield single to load the bases. Randle took the first pitch of his at-bat through the right side of the infield to end the game.Ole Miss faces No. 1 seed Nebraska on Saturday at 7 p.m.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMA day of firsts for Christian Scott and Hayden Senger carries bigger meaning for Mets -- with hopefully more to comeChristian Scott and Hayden Senger shared stops along the Mets minor-league pathway, so perhaps it’s only appropriate that they shared two important career “firsts” on Saturday, too, when Scott earned an elusive first victory and Senger smashed his first big league homer. “I think it’s a really cool thing,” Senger said following the Mets’ 6-1 victory over the Marlins on Saturday at Citi Field. “I kind of thought we would do it together. I just kind of had a feeling.” “Coming up through all the levels, so you want to see him get that moment and the smile on his face as he was running the bases and the dugout was awesome,” added Scott.Judging by something else Scott said, the two were showered with food and beverages by teammates afterward, too, a messy baseball tradition for such firsts. “I won’t be able to get peanut butter out of my hair for a couple weeks,” Scott said, “but it was awesome.”It was a giddy end to a nice day of celebration for the organization – before the game, the Mets inducted Bobby Valentine and Lee Mazzilli into the club’s Hall of Fame. But, particularly with Scott’s performance, there are some this-year applications that could really boost a team looking for ways to come out of a poor start to the season. Scott only delivered five innings of mound work after the Marlins forced his pitch count skyward, but his stuff was tantalizing. He allowed just one run and five hits. His sweeper was really good – he got five swings-and-misses on 16 cuts at it – and he matched his career-high of eight strikeouts. He was helped by two terrific catches, one by A.J. Ewing and one by Carson Benge, too.As the Mets seek answers, Scott might be a big one. He is now an important part of a rotation in flux, a key pitcher they look to for stability. “If we can get that version, which I’m pretty confident we will, that’s another factor for us to turn this thing around, right there,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “He’s too talented. He’s got electric stuff and he’s going to continue to help us.”“His stuff is very swing and miss and when he's in the zone and he's locating that heater at the top, it's pretty tough to hit,” added Senger.Scott, who missed all of last season while recovering from elbow surgery, has allowed four or fewer runs in each of his first 16 career starts. He’s the first pitcher in club history to own such a streak. The Mets were gaga over his potential before he got hurt and now he’s getting them back into that kind of mood. New York Mets starting pitcher Christian Scott (45) pitches against the Miami Marlins during the first inning at Citi Field. / Brad Penner-Imagn Images Maybe their mood overall is changing, too, though that might be premature. The Mets have won three straight, but there is a long way to go for them to flush their terrible start. They are 25-33 and, their last two games notwithstanding, have troubles on offense. But maybe a couple of fun firsts are a palate cleanser of sorts. Senger, 29, is Luis Torrens’ backup, at least until Francisco Alvarez returns, and he’s been trying to add power to his resume in Triple-A. He had hit six home runs in his first 22 games at Syracuse. The one Saturday, not surprisingly, felt “maybe a little better than the ones in Triple-A,” Senger admitted. “Probably one of the best feelings I’ve had.” He got the ball back as a keepsake. “Thanks to the clubbies,” he said. Clubhouse workers exchanged some Mets memorabilia for the milestone ball, Senger said. “Thanks to the fan, too,” Senger said. He said he’ll try to find a good spot for the ball at home. Mendoza said he did not realize it was Scott’s first career win, “because of how well he pitched for us in 2024.” Scott’s first nine starts in the Majors were promising, though winless. Now, Mendoza is thinking, “First of many,” after Saturday. Mendoza also praised the righty for how he moved through the slog of a year-plus of rehabbing. “You feel like you’re on an island by yourself, you know, down in Florida,” the manager said. “It can be a lonely place at times and frustrating at times as well. You’ve got to give him credit and all the medical people and the trainers.” Scott admitted he never thought it’d take this long to get his first win – he debuted on May 4, 2024. “Hopefully, it doesn’t take as long to get the second one,” he quipped. After the game, the Mets’ posted on social media a nice clip of Senger and Scott sharing an embrace in the tunnel from the dugout to the clubhouse. It was a good win for a team that needs to start stacking them, but it was a nice personal moment for two players, too. “I knew that was his first win, so I just congratulated him and he congratulated me,” Senger said. “And that was it. “And we’re both very happy for each other.”0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Red Sea' watches Kings softball claim first-ever regional titleKings High School's fans have a reputation for traveling well (remember the "Red Sea" at Wright State when the volleyball team won the 2023 state championship?), but they didn't have to drive far to witness the Knights clinch their first ever softball regional title, a 2-1 win over Clayton Northmont at Mason High School."It's so nice because I only live like 10 minutes away. I like being close to home, especially with the turnout we've had. I've seen so many people that I love here, coming to games. My own family has ben able to make it out, everybody from school, even my favorite service dog that comes every Friday was able to make it out," senior pitcher Neely McElhaney said.McElhaney was one of the featured players in the win, throwing 123 pitches (85 strikes), striking out 10 batters and allowing just three hits and two walks. With the tying run on third base with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, she struck out Jabria Bickerstaff, leading to her teammates mobbing her in the circle.McElhaney meticulously scouts every player she could possibly face, allowing her to only focus on the task at hand and not worry about who's on base."Neely is a cerebral pitcher. She doesn't get too high, she doesn't get too low. When things get a little bit rough out there, I don't really panic too much because she's capable of calming herself down and get to where she needs to be. That kid does notes on every teams she's gonna face. She has a notebook with probably six pages on these kids. Knew how we were gonna attack them. She just came out and did her thing," Kings head coach John Schablein said. When Julia Lowry led off the second inning with her 11th home run of the season, there was a feeling that the Knights would use their power to overwhelm the Bolts. It was the team's 38th home run of the season, a new program record."To be able to put the team on the board and get the energy started, to keep us rolling is an amazing feeling," Lowry said.Despite Northmont's 19-11 record, there was a reason they were in the regional final, beating Troy 7-0 in the regional final after losing to the Trojans, 10-6, to open the season.Northmont's Jadyn Johnson was up to the task, putting together one of her best outings of the season. She struck out 14 batters and allowed just four hits and walked three. Two of those walks and one of the hits came in the fourth inning. Kings' Grace Parkhurst opened the frame by reaching on an error. Lowry followed with a walk. One out later, Madi Titler singled to right to load the bases. With two outs, junior Emma Myles worked a walk on a seven-pitch at-bat to score what became the winning run."I had to be as patient as I've ever been. She has some really good spin on all of her pitches, so it's really important to make sure you see the spin and can differentiate between a ball and a strike. It was a fun at-bat but it was nerve-wracking," Myles said. The Knights' defense was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on Saturday afternoon. In the third inning, a fielding error by Parkhurst and a throwing error by McElhaney allowed the Bolts to tie the game at 1-1. Kings committed three errors in the first three innings; the Knights hadn't committed that many errors in a game since April 17."We talked about it, not with the kids but the coaches. We're like, 'Holy cow.' It was a little bit of nerves early on. We got to this point last year and couldn't get over the hump. I think there was some nerves but we settled down," Schablein said. But they wouldn't commit an error the rest of the way. For the second day in a row, Emma Myles made a sliding catch in right field that saved at least one run. She made another diving catch to start the fourth inning. Schablein complimented her as one of the best right fielders he's coached in his 23 years. Also in the fourth inning, Parkhurst snagged a sinking liner at first base. In the sixth inning, Titler ranged to her right to snag a line drive destined for center field. Now 28-1, it would be erroneous to say the Knights are hitting their stride in the postseason. They've been hitting their stride since March 23. Now it's just about making history."It's everything I've ever dreamed about. We've been talking about this since we were eight, nine years old playing for a rec team. To be able to do this is everything we've worked for," Lowry said.Who will Kings play in its first state tournament appearance? The Knights will face Painesville Riverside, which beat Green 10-3 in the Region 8 final. The game will take place at 3 p.m. on June 6 at Akron Firestone Stadium. It will be a jam-packed week for Kings, filled with community celebrations, even though school has been out for the summer for two weeks. That won't distract the Knights from their goal of winning two games next weekend."You have to remind yourself that you're here to play a game," McElhaney said. The Beavers are 27-4, have won 12 of their last 13 games and were ranked No. 3 in the final DII coaches poll of the season. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMClaude Lemieux's brain is being donated to Boston University's CTE Center, his family saysClaude Lemieux’s brain is being donated to the Boston University CTE Center to research the long-term effects of repetitive brain injuries, his family said Saturday in a statement released by daughter Claudia Lemieux Bishop.Lemieux died of suicide at age 60 on Thursday, according to authorities, after earlier in the week serving as the Montreal Canadiens' torchbearer prior to a playoff game. He played nearly 1,500 NHL games with six teams from 1983-2009 and was known for his hard-hitting style and ability to perform in big games on the way to winning the Stanley Cup four times. The family said it gave the CTE Center permission to publicly share any findings with Lemieux's name, adding that no conclusions should be drawn regarding any diagnosis.“Claude dedicated his post-playing career to helping the next generation,” the family said, referring to Lemieux becoming an agent. “By allowing his name to be connected to this research, we hope his life can contribute to greater understanding, more honest conversations and better protection for athletes and families in the years ahead.”___AP NHL: https://apnews.com/hub/nhl0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

We’ve now got enough data to see some interesting trends. For example, this confirms what we suspected: that catchers (and pitchers, though those are a tiny fraction – no AZ pitcher has yet challenged) are better at it than hitters. 58 percent of fielding team challenges have been successful, but for batters, the number drops to 47 percent. The D-backs reflect this too, but have actually been better on defense, where they’re challenging successfully at an impressive 65% rate. But it’s been a while: Arizona haven’t put in a successful defensive claim since May 21, losing their last three in a row.At the dish, Arizona have gone 19-21, a 48% rate that’s basically right in line with league average. The hitter most likely to be tapping his helmet for the D-backs is perhaps unsurprising: it’s catcher Gabriel Moreno, who has challenged seven pitches. However, he’s not quite as good there as when wearing the mask, having gone 4-3. And three of the four were called strikes which actually were out of the zone by more than two inches, including the most egregious overturned strike yet of 2026 for an Arizona hitter, more than three inches out. Corbin Carroll has only challenged twice, but has won both of them. On the other hand, D-backs have challenged and lost five pitches which were inside the strike zone by more than two inches. The worst one there was this challenge by Lourdes Gurriel, which was again, over three inches from being a ball. Considering Gurriel wasn’t even facing the plate when the ball reached the catcher… Yeah. What’s interesting is, overall, the ratio of challenges has remained fairly static at around four percent since the beginning of the season. I might have expected either umpires to get more used to calling the “right” zone, or players to get better at challenges. Perhaps those two things cancel each other out!Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system!0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrench Open: Zachary Svajda remembers late dad after latest winParis — Unheralded American Zachary Svajda continued his surprise French Open run on Saturday by posting a 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3 victory over No. 25 Francisco Cerundolo to reach the fourth round in Paris.Svajda committed 18 fewer unforced errors (59-41) than Cerundolo while thriving on the clay at Roland Garros. The run is emotional for Svajda, whose father, Tom, died of cancer last October. Saturday would have been Tom's 61st birthday, and Svajda pointed to the sky after finishing off the victory."I was thinking about that," Svajda said. "I was nervous. I know he's proud of me, and I want to perform well and win. When I got that match, the last point, I just teared up, fell to the ground like, 'Oh my gosh, what is happening?'"Cerundolo of Argentina had the edge in aces (13-10) and winners (61-43), while Svajda scored well by converting 6 of 9 break points.Svajda will next face No. 10 Flavio Cobolli, who sailed to a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Learner Tien.Due to a slew of upsets, Cobolli is the third-highest-seeded player remaining in the field. The Italian is also aware that not a single former champion remains in the field."Of course I want to think match by match," Cobolli said. "That's the way that I want to think this week.""I know that there are many possibilities to have a new Grand Slam champion. For sure, we will have a new Grand Slam champion, but I don't want to think about this. For sure, I have now another tough match."No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada remains the highest seed in the top half of the bracket after his 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1) defeat of No. 31 Brandon Nakashima. He and Cobolli join No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany as Top 10 seeds to make the Round of 16.Argentina's Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who upset top-seeded Jannik Sinner of Italy on Thursday, needed five hours and 57 minutes to finish off a 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6) victory over Spain's Martin Landaluce. The match was the third-longest in Roland Garros history.Juan Manuel Cerundolo won 214 points to Landaluce's 213 and held a 16-6 edge in aces. Landaluce had more winners (87-76) and committed more unforced errors (86-71).No. 19 seed Frances Tiafoe won his second straight five-setter, rallying from two sets down to beat Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria 4-6, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (4), 6-1, 6-2.He's the first American man to reach the fourth round of the French Open in back-to-back years since Andre Agassi in 2001-03."It was great," Tiafoe said. "Even if I would tell you that I feel tired, it doesn't matter. It just feels good to get through that. It wasn't looking good there for a lot of that match. These ones are big. Just gave myself another chance to stay in the event."Italy's Matteo Berrettini also won a lengthy match with a marathon fifth-set tiebreaker, outlasting Argentina's Francisco Comesana 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (13) in five hours and 13 minutes."Francisco played an unbelievable match," said Berrettini, who lost in the 2021 Wimbledon final. "It was an unbelievable match, I really had to find my way (through) and I gave it everything I had."Berrettini will face Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the round of 16.Chile's Alejandro Tabilo moved on with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (9) victory over 17-year-old Moise Kouame of France. Also, Italy's Matteo Arnaldi outlasted Belgium's Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-7 (5), 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (8).Women's drawDefending champion Coco Gauff was dramatically dethroned at the French Open by Anastasia Potapova, while world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka cut through the chaos to dismiss Daria Kasatkina and reach the fourth round. After a brutal two days for fancied players at the clay court Grand Slam during which Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic crashed out, Gauff was unable to find her best level and lost 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-4 to fall by the wayside."I don't know, I had chances," Gauff said."Just trying to capitalise more on these good points that I was hitting and not quite finishing … that was the difference, she was able to finish points and I wasn't."It's one thing to lose, but today I competed, I fought my hardest, but I don't think I played the way I wanted to in the crucial moments."Gauff's premature exit leaves four-times champion Iga Swiatek and Sabalenka as the top contenders to win the Suzanne Lenglen Cup, while Potapova will be viewed as the dark horse having dished out a massive upset."I'm cramping a little bit, but it's OK, it's all good. I don't have any words now, I'm extremely happy," Potapova said in her on-court interview as she clutched her right arm after two hours and 37 minutes of big hitting."The fight we could show … Coco's such a champion and I respect her so much. I'm unbelievably proud of myself, that I stayed there, and that I was fighting until the last point."Sabalenka earlier beat Kasatkina 6-0, 7-5 on a sun-drenched Court Suzanne Lenglen for her 100th win as the top-ranked woman, making her only the ninth player to achieve the feat since the inception of the WTA rankings. She joined Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, Justine Henin and Swiatek in the honours list."I've got goosebumps," said Sabalenka, who struggled with dips in form and crippling service issues a few years ago."It means the world to me and I'm just happy that in the tough moments I stayed tough. I was fighting and never gave up and that is what it has brought me."This article originally appeared on The Detroit News: French Open: Zachary Svajda remembers late dad after latest win0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKnicks' Mikal Bridges has proven himself worth every pick sent to Nets, and moreWhen the Knicks were down 2-1 to the Hawks in the first round of the 2026 playoffs, things began to look existential for this core, from the bench all the way up to the President. Everybody was under the spotlight, as another two losses would be a catastrophic failure for a team with championship aspirations, after championship-level big swings. Firing head coach Tom Thibodeau and bringing in Mike Brown was one, as was the Karl-Anthony Towns trade, but perhaps the most scrutinized move that built this current iteration was the five first-round picks New York sent Brooklyn to acquire Mikal Bridges. He was a vaunted wing they paid a premium to their crosstown rivals to pick up, and he just put up zero points and four turnovers in a pivotal Game 3 loss. Many had said he more than proved his worth during the 2025 playoffs, with multiple clutch games and moments to beat the Pistons in round one and upset the Celtics in round two. But this town isn’t big on consolation prizes, and a first-round loss this year would put Bridges on the chopping block and the trade that brought him here under a spotlight. But since then, we’ve seen a completely different Bridges, one that’s been instrumental to their 11-game win streak and first NBA Finals berth in 27 years. Since that woeful Game 3, he’s cemented his Knicks legacy and once and for all made those picks an afterthought. It started with his game-changing defense. He locked in on Nickeil Alexander-Walker, this year’s Most Improved Player. Alexander-Walker went from a 20.8 points per game average in the regular season to 13.7 against the Knicks -- his two-point accuracy falling from 52.5 percent to 32.1 -- and Bridges forced nine turnovers in 29 minutes matched up with him. He was also massive off the ball and on switches, helping take All-Star Jalen Johnson out of the series. Electric 28.3-points per game scorer Tyrese Maxey awaited Bridges in the second round, and Bridges stepped up to the plate. Bridges held him to an inefficient first two games -- 19 points a night on 38 percent shooting from the field -- and forced eight turnovers in 21 minutes of matchup time. When OG Anunoby went down with a hamstring injury, Bridges stepped up to take on Paul George to finish the sweep. All the while, Bridges has done the little things on this end as well, boxing out, fighting for boards and running the floor hard.In the Conference Finals, he had the privilege of guarding James Harden, and once again lived up to the challenge. Harden averaged 16 points on 39 percent shooting from the field and 18 percent shooting from three, struggling to make a real dent in Bridges’ defense. There are few wings in these playoffs that have comparable impact to Bridges defensively, and he’s been a different offensive force since his zilch. From Game 6 against Atlanta, he’s averaged 18.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals per game on a remarkable 71.4 percent shooting from two and 37.9 percent from three. This isn’t just by way of his usual diet of leakouts, catch-and-shoot threes and mid-range pulls, either. Bridges rediscovered his paint aggression, looking for contact and rim attacks in transition and the halfcourt. He’s been creating for himself more in the pick-and-roll as the series have gone on, even bailing the Knicks out at pivotal times. His huge threes in Game 1 against the Cavaliers, including the fading prayer over Evan Mobley, were crucial to the Knicks pulling off the comeback.New York will need him to continue this tear in the NBA Finals, but no matter how this final round plays out, the black cloud of draft picks that’s hovered above him for two seasons can now dissipate for good. Bridges has more than proven himself these playoffs, and the front office is validated for taking that swing.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNew York Yankees @ The Athletics: Ryan Weathers vs. J.T. GinnBALTIMORE, MD - MAY 11: Ryan Weathers #40 of the New York Yankees pitches during the game between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Monday, May 11, 2026 in Baltimore, Maryland. (Photo by Alyssa Piazza/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty Images The ebbs and flows of a long, long baseball season can totally change your mood in a matter of days. Just six days ago, the Yankees had lost three consecutive games against division rivals and had fallen to 5.5 games back of the first-place Rays. Six days later, they have a chance to pull within a half-game after winning five in a row and Tampa dropping their fifth game in six days this afternoon against the Angels.Ryan Weathers will take the bump, looking to secure the series victory in West Sacramento in his 11th start of 2026. It’s been a terrific start to the season for the former Marlin, posting a 3.14 ERA (131 ERA+) and 3.45 FIP in 57.1 innings with 65 strikeouts. He’s coming off a strong seven innings against the Rays at Yankee Stadium, and will look to replicate the eight innings of one-run ball he put up against this potent offense in early April.Toeing the slab for the (Sacramento) A’s is J.T. Ginn, the one-time Mets prospect who you might remember from his near-no-hitter against the Angels earlier this month that resulted in a heartbreaking walk-off defeat. Despite a nightmare start last time out, he’s still pitching to a 3.19 ERA (141 ERA+) and 4.18 FIP in 12 appearances (nine starts) across 53.2 innings with 48 strikeouts. He’s faced the Yankees once before, throwing five innings of one-run ball back in 2024.The peripherals are fairly pedestrian all around on Ginn, but he’s been well above-average at preventing hard contact in the air and keeping the ball on the ground. He has a five-pitch mix, led by his sinker, which he throws 54 percent of the time against right-handed hitters. It’s a much more even split from the left side, which he’s struggled with more, tossing his cutter, changeup, slider, and four-seamer all at least 14 percent of the time.Trent Grisham, who’s been heating up of late, will lead off again, followed by Ben Rice, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. Paul Goldschmidt will get another start at first base, batting sixth, while Ryan McMahon, Austin Wells, and Anthony Volpe round out the lineup. Keep in mind that Amed Rosario is unavailable after being put on paternity leave. It’s more of the same for the A’s. Colby Thomas leads off in front of Nick Kurtz, Shea Langeliers, Brent Rooker, and Tyler Soderstrom. Henry Bolte and Zack Gelof get another start, while Darell Hernaiz and Alika Williams round out the bunch in the middle infield. How to watchLocation: Sutter Health Park — West Sacramento, CAFirst pitch: 10:05 pm ETTV broadcast: YES, NBCSCARadio broadcast: WFAN 660/101.9 FM, WADO 1280 (NYY), Talk 650 KSTE, KVMX 92.1/105.5, A’s Cast (ATH)Online stream: MLB.tv (out-of-market only), Gotham Sports AppFor updates, follow us on BlueSky, Twitter, and Instagram, and like us on Facebook.Saturday in Sacramento.#RepBXpic.twitter.com/ckQKkk64gl— New York Yankees (@Yankees) May 30, 2026Saturday's Starters 🤝 pic.twitter.com/x006xopVS2— Athletics (@Athletics) May 30, 2026Join the conversation!Sign up for a user account and get:Fewer adsCreate community postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community postsNew, improved notifications system!0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThunder, Spurs battle for spot in NBA Finals: Live takeaways from Game 7It all comes down to this.By the end of the night Saturday, May 30, either the San Antonio Spurs or Oklahoma City Thunder will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. The Thunder and the Spurs, the two best teams in the regular season, are battling in a winner-take-all Game 7 of the conference finals Saturday, May 30.And all eyes are on the two stars in this game: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time consecutive Most Valuable Player for the Thunder, and the Spurs' Victor Wembanyama, the young phenom and unanimous Defensive Player of the Year.Awaiting either squad in the NBA Finals is the New York Knicks, who swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals. Here are live takeaways from Game 7 of the Western Conference finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder:Second-chance points have saved the ThunderIf there’s one thing that sparked Oklahoma City’s run in the second quarter, it was its work on the offensive glass. The Thunder gained a 9-4 edge on offensive rebounds in the first half Saturday night. It was no surprise, then, that Oklahoma City took a massive 17-6 lead in second-chance points into intermission. The offensive rebounding helped revive a moribund Thunder offenseThe other thing offensive boards have done for OKC is to neutralize San Antonio’s transition offense; the Spurs have wanted to play quickly, and failing to scoop up defensive rebounds have robbed the Spurs of chances to get out on the break. So did Shai Gilgeous-AlexanderA monster, 13-point second quarter from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander lifted the Thunder back into this game. Gilgeous-Alexander, admittedly, was slow to start this game. The Spurs did throw extra bodies at him anytime he got the ball in an attacking position, so some of the early issues were to be expected. But Gilgeous-Alexander was far more decisive in the second quarter and looked to get his looks before the Spurs were able to set their defense. At the half, Gilgeous-Alexander has 19 points on a wildly-efficient 8-of-11 shooting and has added 5 assists and 4 rebounds. His 19 points were most this series during a first half. He looks like an elite player who knows what’s at stake. The San Antonio offense to start the game was impressive. Their defense was even betterEarly on in Game 7, the Spurs swarmed the ball, used active hands to deflect passes and took control of the game with turnovers.San Antonio, though the first 6:45 of the game, forced the Thunder into 5 turnovers (on 5 steals), which led to a quick 7-0 advantage on points off turnovers. Of course, it helped that the Spurs didn’t commit a single turnover during that span early, but it was the force and intensity the Spurs brought that impacted the game. The Thunder were better with the ball in the second quarter, which allowed them to get better looks. For San Antonio to win this Game 7, it needs to find a way to continue pressuring ball-handlers into turnovers, because that’s the recipe it can use to play with more tempo. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Spurs vs Thunder live takeaways, analysis from NBA playoffs Game 70 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme

The Bobcats eventually beat the Trojans with less at bats, less hits and better pitching. A very similar story came out of the Texas A&M vs Lamar game. Less at bats, less hits, but better pitching. The question in this game could come down to the better pitching staff and the team that can generate runs, especially later in the game. Both teams are adequately good at creating scoring opportunities. The question will be, which pitching staff can slow down the opposing offense. 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship123456789RHETexas A&M (40-14)0010140Texas State (37-24)110231Texas A&M vs Texas State baseball box score: Live stats from NCAA Baseball ChampionshipTexas A&MBatterPOSABRHRBIBBSOAVGOBP9Gavin Grahovac1B211100.345.43313Caden SorrellCF201000.344.4398Chris HacopianDH200000.310.3992Nico Partida3B202000.318.4183Jake DuerLF100001.293.39916Bear HarrisonC100000.295.48610Ben Royo2B100001.455.4741Terrence Kiel IIRF100001.261.4076Boston KellnerSS100001.237.422Total1314104H: Grahovac 1 (21)RBI: Grahovac 1 (73)PitcherPOSIPHRERBBSOBFERA21Weston MossP3.032215135.8Total3.03221513Moss 45 (27 strikes)Texas StateBatterPOSABRHRBIBBSOAVGOBP7Rashawn GallowayRF200001.319.37033Manny SalasDH211101.311.41332Clayton NamkenC200001.306.39824Jaquae Stewart1B201001.263.3931Justin VossosSS100000.299.37044Jackson CottonLF111100.250.3702Chase Mora3B100001.233.2939Bennett FrymanCF100000.231.32221Brady Boles2B000010.260.374Total1223215H: Salas 1 (16)Cotton 1 (13)RBI: Salas 1 (40)Cotton 1 (35)PitcherPOSIPHRERBBSOBFERA13Jesus TovarP3.041104135.1Total3.04110413Tovar 41 (31 strikes)How to watch: Texas A&M vs Texas State 2026 NCAA Baseball Championship Game Date: Saturday, May 30Time: 7 p.m. ETTV: ESPN2More NCAA NewsArkansas vs. Nebraska softball box score: Final stats from Women's College World Series gameDeion Sanders buyout, contract details as Colorado Buffaloes coachArkansas vs. Georgia box score: Final stats from 2026 SEC Baseball ChampionshipBill Belichick, Jordon Hudson at Kentucky Derby leaves everyone saying the same thingDemond Williams bombshell could have resulted in Lane Kiffin fired by LSU0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 42 Views 0 önizleme
