SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFormer teammate backs Barcelona new signing to succeed at Camp Nou: ‘He’s going to tear up the league’Former teammate backs Barcelona new signing to succeed at Camp Nou: ‘He’s going to tear up the league’Anthony Gordon’s move to FC Barcelona has been one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer so far. The €70 million fee, plus add-ons, has got everyone excited about the season ahead. While many are questioning the price tag, Barcelona have received a vote of confidence from one of Gordon’s old teammates, Salomon Rondon. In an interview with Diario SPORT, the 36-year-old Venezuelan captain and Pachuca legend, who played alongside Gordon for a season and a half at Everton, backed the Englishman to succeed at Camp Nou.Rondon backs Gordon to shineAnthony Gordon will be a success at Barcelona, says Rondon. (Picture credit: Barcelona official website)“I understand why Barca signed him for that amount of money, especially knowing that Anthony has enormous potential and a huge future,” he said. Rondon was quick to highlight the physical and technical attributes that make Gordon such an exciting prospect for Flick’s side.“He’s very versatile and incredibly fast. I think he reached speeds of up to 37 kilometres per hour in a sprint while at Newcastle.“Technically, he’s very good, and his one-on-one ability is another of his strengths,” he added. For Rondon, those qualities translate directly into what Barcelona demands from their attackers and he has no doubts about how well Gordon will slot in.“He fits perfectly into the style of this Barca and can be a very important piece,” he said. Rondon on Gordon’s characterRondon was equally appreciative of Gordon’s character and the mentality he brings to the table. Anthony Gordon was a major coup for Barcelona. (Picture credit: X/@FCBarcelona)“I played with Anthony at Everton when he was quite young, and he’s very professional, a very focused guy even back then. I’m sure he’ll do very well because of his conviction and his focus on football,” he said. Rondon also pointed to the quality of Gordon’s recent CV as evidence that this move is no gamble.“Anthony has competed very strongly in the Champions League. And in the Premier League, he was undoubtedly one of the standout players,” he said. He was equally clear about the timing of the move, believing Gordon would arrive at the Spotify Camp Nou at the peak of his powers.“I’m sure he’s going to tear up the league, because it’s a very dynamic style of football, and besides, he’s playing for a Barca side that plays the ball very well and is always looking for space,” he said. He wished luck to his former teammate, concluding, “I wish him all the best, because he deserves it.”0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Jayden Daniels was involved in Commanders promoting David BloughWashington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was a big fan of former offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. It's not surprising since Daniels had the greatest rookie season in NFL history under Kingsbury's tutelage in 2024. However, things went off the rails in 2025. Much of that was due to injuries. Daniels missed 10 games with different injuries, and Washington's offense wasn't the same without him and a healthy Terry McLaurin. At the conclusion of a 5-12 season, head coach Dan Quinn had seen enough. He fired defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., which was expected. But it was surprising when word began to leak that the Commanders could also move on from Kingsbury. Washington did move on from Kingsbury, only days after Daniels endorsed his return. The decision wasn't made based on Kingsbury's 2025 results. It was about the future. Quinn and GM Adam Peters wanted the Commanders to move forward with a more traditional offense rather than Kingsbury's fast-break, no-huddle offense. An offense that would take some of the pressure off Daniels and play him more under center. While the Commanders interviewed several candidates, it was clear that assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough was always the guy. Quinn had identified him as a future star once Kingsbury added him to his offensive staff in 2024. Another benefit of promoting the 30-year-old former NFL quarterback: Daniels loved Blough. Daniels and Blough were close, having spent the past two years together. If Washington was going forward with a new offense, it made sense to hire someone with close ties to Daniels. The Commanders opened OTAs this week, and it was the first chance to see Daniels in Blough's new offense. While reporters weren't going to see much, there was plenty of Daniels under center. His teammates were impressed with his command of the new offense. What does Daniels think of Blough now being his offensive coordinator?"It's fun, he said after Wednesday's OTA. "I mean, it's been awesome just to see his offensive mind, his creative mind, and juices flowing, and we're building this thing together."Daniels likes Blough's offense. "I love the offense. I mean, I love what Blough’s doing. I love how he's creating and designing different things, and then we're going from there."It made sense to go with an offensive coordinator with ties to Daniels. While that helped Blough's case, that's not the only reason he was hired. Other teams wanted to hire him. Quinn truly believes in Blough's vision and didn't feel he needed to wait after getting into coaching only two years ago. So, did Daniels have a voice in Blough's promotion?"I would say I was in the loop, but a lot of stuff is above my pay grade, so that's it," Daniels said. This makes sense. Daniels should have a voice, while Quinn's decision should always be with Daniels and the organization's future in mind. While Daniels proved he could thrive in Kingsbury's offense, there was always a ceiling to it, regardless of the quarterback's talent. Quinn and the Commanders wanted a running game that was married to the passing game. They wanted more play-action possibilities, which was almost impossible under Kingsbury. Washington believes this will make Daniels even more dangerous in 2026 and beyond. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIPL's Rs 25.20 crore star flops in Pakistan; dismissed for a duck - WATCHNEW DELHI: After a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, Cameron Green's struggles with the bat continued as the Australian all-rounder was dismissed for a duck in the opening ODI of the three-match series against Pakistan.Green was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record-breaking Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history. However, the hefty price tag failed to translate into the kind of performances KKR would have hoped for.The lean run continued in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan's teenage debutant Arafat Minhas produced a dream start to his ODI career. Minhas, who finished with a five-wicket haul on debut, dismissed Green without troubling the scorers. The young spinner delivered a slightly short ball on leg stump that turned sharply away. Green remained rooted deep in his crease and failed to pick the turn. The ball beat his bat and crashed into the top of the off stump, ending his stay at the crease instantly.Green's IPL campaign was also underwhelming. Representing KKR, he scored 322 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 145.70. Despite a few useful contributions, he was unable to consistently justify the record fee.Green remains the most expensive overseas player in IPL history, while Rishabh Pant holds the record for the most expensive player overall after being bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore at the IPL 2025 auction.— CallMeSheri1_ (@CallMeSheri1_) KKR's season mirrored Green's struggles. The three-time champions failed to make the playoffs, finishing seventh in the standings with six wins, seven defeats and one no-result from their 14 league matches under captain Ajinkya Rahane. The campaign got off to a poor start, with losses to Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad exposing weaknesses in both departments. Although they produced some memorable victories against Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, consistency remained their biggest challenge.A dramatic Super Over win against Lucknow Super Giants briefly revived KKR's playoff hopes, but crucial defeats later in the season proved costly. A six-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru dented their chances, while a 40-run defeat against Delhi Capitals in their final league game effectively summed up a frustrating campaign marked by missed opportunities and inconsistency.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSocial media reacts to Texas A&M's 17-2 rout of Texas StateTexas A&M's bats came alive in a dominant 17-2 win over Texas State, as the Aggies advanced to the College Station Regional final. After giving up solo home runs in back-to-back innings, right-handed pitcher Weston Moss bounced back to record one of his most impressive outings in the Maroon and White. Moss notched a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed five hits in 7.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Texas A&M's offense came alive to score 17 unanswered runs, led by left fielder Jake Duer's career-high six RBI and Chris Hacopian's four RBI. It remains undetermined who will pitch for the Aggies in the regional final against Texas State or USC, but head coach Michael Earley confirmed after the game that right-hander Aiden Sims is out for the year. The devastating news for the already thin Aggie bullpen could be detrimental, unless Texas A&M can get more consistent outings from guys like Shane Sdao and Ethan Darden moving forward. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat we learned from Scotland's win over CuracaoTwo goals for Lawrence Shankland. A first international goal for 19-year-old Findlay Curtis. An accomplished Scotland debut for another teenager in Tyler Fletcher. But there was also the cruel loss of Billy Gilmour to injury, ruling the midfielder out of the World Cup, a slow start, ponderous defending and a warning from a familiar face about what awaits in the United States. There was plenty to ponder from Scotland's 4-1 win over 10-man Curacao at Hampden on Saturday. Here, BBC Sport Scotland runs through some of the outstanding questions.Gilmour ruled out of World Cup - could Man Utd's Fletcher replace him?Shankland and Curtis make World Cup move - but will Clarke respond?Shankland nets double as Scotland put four past 10-man CuracaoShankland lays strong starting claimDespite his free-scoring form for Hearts over the past few seasons, Lawrence Shankland has struggled to establish himself for his country.Only four of his 18 Scotland appearances before this came as a starter, but he made a compelling case to be the man who leads the line at the World Cup here. The 30-year-old has one key quality that sets him apart from Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, George Hirst and Ross Stewart, and it's a pretty important one – pure goal-scoring instincts. After a quiet first half during which he dropped too deep looking to get involved in the build-up play, Shankland came alive, netting two excellent strikes inside the penalty box.So has he earned Clarke's trust as a starter rather than a finisher of games?"Lawrence is a good player, I've never had any doubts about that," the head coach said. "I know you guys [in the media] don't think that, but I've never had any doubts about Lawrence and what he can bring to the squad."I thought we struggled to get Lawrence into the game first half, I felt he was coming a little bit too deep whereas Lawrence's strength is obviously in the box."Even the set-piece goal that we got, the delivery into him wasn't great but he still managed to dig it out, so his two finishes are pretty much typical Lawrence Shankland."Curtis the coming manFinlay Curtis enjoyed an outstanding end to the Scottish Premiership season, his goals helping loan club Kilmarnock avoid the threat of relegation. That form propelled him into the World Cup squad and the 19-year-old Rangers winger does not look satisfied to go to the United States as a bit-part option or simply to enjoy the experience. His introduction was the spark Scotland needed after a very uncomfortable 40 minutes or so in which Curacao were arguably the better side and decent value for their 1-0 lead.Curtis' movement, neat first touch and left-foot finish brought the equaliser and he drew the foul that allowed Ryan Christie to slam home the fourth from the penalty spot."That finish typifies his confidence - one touch, no look at the goal because he knows where they are, and pulls the trigger," said Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann."It continues the brilliant goalscoring form he had with us. He's in that type of place mentally with his confidence, and physically too, he already looks comfortable out there."That will give him a massive boost."Ben Gannon-Doak showed flashes of pace and purpose in the first half but the end product too often let him down. Curtis may not have the searing pace of the Bournemouth man, but with Clarke unlikely to find room in the starting team for both, might his decisiveness in the final third give him the edge?Frailties at the back exposedCuracao's Tahith Chong will likely remember his wonderful opening goal at Hampden for the rest of his days, but it's one Scotland's centre-back pairing won't want to see again.Scott McKenna got caught under the ball and out of position from the initial long ball up to halfway and from there John Souttar was outpaced and then beaten on the inside as Chong tucked away in impressive style.McKenna and Souttar are solid defenders, but the latter in particular is more suited to winning aerial balls and defending his box rather than dealing with the movement of pacy forwards. When you consider the quality of attackers Scotland will be facing at the World Cup - especially against Morocco and Brazil - the centre-back pairing will be an area that Clarke will look very closely at.After a solid showing against Ivory Coast in March, Dom Hyam did little wrong in his second-half outing on Saturday, albeit the tide had well and truly turned once the visitors were reduced to 10 men.Who fills the Gilmour gap?Gilmour's face said it all when he fell to the turf late in the first half after making a tackle.A knee injury on the eve of the squad departure has robbed the 24-year-old of a place on the plane for America.A replacement will be chosen, but they won't have the 45 caps that Gilmour has - or Premier League, Serie A and Champions League experience. However, midfield is the strongest area of the squad and Clarke has very good options.Lewis Ferguson and Kenny McLean know the deep-lying role well while Ryan Christie has played his best football for Bournemouth in a central position, although he has often been asked to play wider for Scotland.Scott McTominay and John McGinn have played further back throughout their careers, but Clarke will surely want his leading scorers in more advanced positions. Those five have 301 caps between them. While Gilmour's composure will be missed in the middle of the park, he started just two of the six qualifiers, missing the final two through injury.Beware the danger of HaitiA 4-1 win over Curacao, who are ranked one place higher in the world than Haiti, should give confidence for a positive start to Scotland's World Cup campaign.Curacao also beat Haiti 5-1 in qualifyin, so all signs point to a Scotland win in their group opener. Right? It is not quite as simple as that, according to Curacao head coach Dick Advocaat."Haiti, we beat them 5-1, but it was five attacks, five goals," the Dutchman said. "They had 20 attacks and no goals. They have a good side, to be fair. But 11 against 11 is always a different game."They have some strong, fast players, but Scotland do as well. Scotland has some good young Scottish players, so they can surprise as well."World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World Cup0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIPL Final Match Today: Rajat Patidar's RCB vs Shubman Gill's GT - Predicted playing XI, head-to-head, toss timing, pitch report, Ahmedabad weather updateGujarat Titans have taken a challenging route to the final. After a mixed start that saw them win only three of their first six matches, GT found momentum by winning seven of their next ten games to secure a top-two finish. A major turning point came with the inclusion of Jason Holder, who replaced Glenn Phillips and contributed 17 wickets in 10 matches with his hard-length bowling approach.GT's hopes largely rest on their top order of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. If the trio can negotiate the new-ball threat posed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, GT will back themselves to post or chase a big total. However, their dependence on the top three and the quick turnaround after Qualifier 2 remain concerns.RCB enter the final in a more comfortable position after enjoying a three-day break following their Qualifier 1 victory. The defending champions have built their season around an explosive batting unit, crossing the 200-run mark nine times and successfully chasing 200-plus targets on two occasions. Their strength lies in contributions from throughout the batting order, with Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Tim David, Krunal Pandya and Venkatesh Iyer all playing important roles alongside Virat Kohli. The final will be played at a venue that holds historic significance for both franchises. Gujarat Titans won their maiden title there in 2022, while RCB ended their 18-year wait for the trophy at the same ground in 2025. Now, both teams are chasing a second IPL crown, with GT looking to cement their status as a modern IPL powerhouse and RCB aiming to become only the third team after Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to successfully defend their title.RCB vs GT Head to HeadMatches Played: 9Royal Challengers Bengaluru Won:5Gujarat Titans Won: 4RCB vs GT Today IPL Match: Pitch ReportThe IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans will be played on the mixed-soil Pitch No. 6 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, a surface known for producing high-scoring games. The pitch previously hosted the T20 World Cup final and also witnessed GT's league-stage victory over RCB earlier this season. However, it is equally special for RCB, who won their maiden IPL title at the venue in 2025.RCB vs GT IPL Match: Ahmedabad Weather UpdateAn uninterrupted full 40-over match is guaranteed for the blockbuster IPL 2026 Final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, as the India Meteorological Department has forecast no threat of rain. Current conditions in Ahmedabad indicate clear, sunny skies with a localized temperature of 34°C that feels like 39°C due to a moderate 52% humidity level. The heavy moisture will make the ball slippery later in the evening, meaning the captain winning the toss will almost certainly opt to bowl first to leverage the easier chasing conditions.RCB vs GT: Predicted Playing XIsRoyal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI): Venkatesh Iyer, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Salam Dar, Jacob DuffyImpact Player: Romario Shepherd/Suyash SharmaGujarat Titans (Playing XI): Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna Impact Player: Arshad Khan/R Sai KishoreRCB vs GT: Live Streaming detailsThe RCB vs GT clash will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Texas A&M senior sprinter resets 200m school record.Since legendary coach Pat Henry arrived in College Station two decades ago, Texas A&M track & field has rewritten its record book more times than most programs do in a lifetime. National titles, All‑Americans, and historic performances have become the standard and on Saturday, senior sprinter Camryn Dickson added another chapter to that legacy.Dickson, already one of the most decorated sprinters in program history, continues to elevate her ceiling. The 200m has long been her signature event, and just weeks after setting the school record at the Alumni Muster with a time of 22.15, she lowered it again on one of the biggest stages of the season.Competing at John McDonnell Field during the NCAA West Preliminary Round, Dickson delivered a blistering 22.13, a personal best that shaved .02 seconds off her own Texas A&M record. The performance not only secured her spot in the next round it also set a new facility record, underscoring just how dominant the senior has become.Dickson wasn’t the only Aggie to advance. Senior Jasmine Montgomery clocked 22.38, and sophomore Anya Jackson followed with a 22.57, giving Texas A&M three qualifiers moving on in the 200m.With the postseason heating up, Dickson’s form couldn’t be peaking at a better time. Her progression mirrors the program’s long-standing tradition under Henry: elite talent, elite development, and elite results when it matters most.Below is her record‑setting run.CAM BREAKS HER OWN 200M SCHOOL RECORD ‼️‼️‼️SHE WINS THE EVENT IN 22.13 🤯#GigEm // #AggieTFpic.twitter.com/7RWH2EqYs4— Texas A&M Track & Field/Cross Country (@aggietfxc) May 31, 2026Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes, and opinions. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMourinho & Nico Paz could Juventus sign Real Madrid attackerMourinho & Nico Paz could Juventus sign Real Madrid attackerJuventus are hoping to lure Real Madrid attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz, and they may find an unlikely ally in Jose Mourinho. The 26-year-old is a Manchester City youth product who was poached by the Spanish giants in the summer of 2019.Between 2020 and 2023, the Moroccan played on loan for Milan, and his Serie A exploits included a few scorchers against Juventus.Diaz returned to Madrid in 2023, adding depth to one of the sport’s most star-studded attacking departments, one that includes Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Franco Mastantuono.Nico Paz to Real Madrid could free up DiazIn recent weeks, Diaz surfaced as a serious target for Juventus, especially after giving up on signing Bernardo Silva on a free transfer. The Malagan native’s contract with Real Madrid will expire in June 2027, so he could be available at a discount. But more importantly, a new arrival could push out the door.According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mourinho, who will soon be announced as Los Blancos’ new head coach, is keen to bring Nico Paz to the club as early as possible. The young Spaniard has cemented himself as one of the best players in Serie A, playing an instrumental role in Como’s historic Champions League qualification.Real Madrid have a buy-back option on Paz worth €10 million this summer and €11 million in 2027. Nevertheless, the pink newspaper believes the Special One will request the 21-year-old’s arrival in the coming weeks.Juventus identify Brahim Diaz as the right profileWith Paz rejoining the ranks at Los Merengues, Diaz is the most likely candidate to make way for the Como star, given that the club’s other attackers are considered untouchable. Juventus would thus try to pounce on the opportunity to bring the Moroccan back to Serie A.Diaz is a left-footed player who can play almost anywhere in the final third, including as an attacking midfielder. Therefore, he would be capable of adding some much-needed flair to Juventus between the lines. This season, he contributed with two goals and nine assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBraves' Walt Weiss gives telling update on Ha-Seong Kim's future at SS amid Jorge Mateo surgeBraves' Walt Weiss gives telling update on Ha-Seong Kim's future at SS amid Jorge Mateo surge originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Atlanta Braves made the decision to bring back Ha-Seong Kim after an impressive month with the team to close the 2025 season. However, Kim got hurt shortly after signing and suffered a wrist injury.Kim has been back with the Braves over the past few weeks, but he has yet to make much of an impact at the plate, batting just above .100. That slow start has raised questions about his future role.“Sounds like the Braves may be approaching a crossroads with Ha-Seong Kim. The belief internally may still be there, but if this continues another couple weeks, it feels like a legitimate ‘what are we doing at shortstop?’ conversation is coming,” 680 The Fan’s Chris Dimino said.In the last three games, Jorge Mateo has started at shortstop for Atlanta. Braves manager Walt Weiss has described the position as day-to-day.“It’s a day-to-day thing,” Weiss said Friday. “I’ve talked about the challenge of juggling 13 position players, and I try to keep everyone involved as best I can. You play the guys that are swinging the bat well, and you ride that wave.”The concern for Kim is that Mateo has been swinging a hot bat, including a home run on Saturday night. With Kim yet to start this weekend and Mateo continuing to produce, Weiss updated the situation after the Braves’ 5-2 win on Saturday night.“(If) he's swinging the bat like this, it's tough to take him out (of the lineup),” Weiss said.Kim could find himself in a similar situation to last season, when he bounced around multiple times before eventually settling in. There is no doubt his defense is solid, but he is struggling at the plate right now.Weiss appears to be sticking to his plan of riding the hot hand, and there may not be anyone hotter than Mateo at the moment. For Kim, it is an unfortunate situation, but when he gets his next opportunity, he will need to be ready. If he is not, it could be a long time before he gets another chance with Mateo continuing to surge.More MLB news:Yankees going all-in to trade for $32M Cy Young winner to form elite duo with Gerrit ColePadres-Marlins trade pitch sends $56M Cy Young winner to San Diego in move to threaten DodgersESPN insider links Braves to $9.4M World Series MVP, Gold Glover as Ha-Seong Kim replacementBraves radio host warns major $20M decision looms for struggling Ha-Seong Kim as concerns grow0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDon't expect to see Jets' Garrett Wilson attending Knicks NBA Finals game at MSGDon't expect to see Jets' Garrett Wilson attending Knicks NBA Finals game at MSG originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Knicks are all the rage these days as they prepare to take on the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, but no amount of hype will be enough to get New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson to watch a game at Madison Square Garden. While speaking to reporters at OTAs last week, Wilson revealed he will no doubt be rooting for the Knicks, but prices are going to keep him from actually attending any games.“Nah,” Wilson said with a smile. “Them jawns expensive!”We can't say we blame Wilson, as the prices for Knicks NBA Finals tickets at MSG are absurd.According to TickPick, the first game at MSG, which will be Game 3, has prices starting at $4,065. Game 4 is slightly lower at $3,728, but the starting price for a possible Game 6 balloons to $4,917.If Wilson wants a cheaper ticket, he could attend one of the games in San Antonio. The get-in prices for the first two games are $1,230 and $1,340, respectively. Game 5 sees a bump with a starting price of $1,656, and then Game 7 is much higher at $3,393.Not that we needed confirmation that the get-in prices are ridiculous, but you know it's really out of hand when a guy on a $130 million contract isn't down to pay up.Like the rest of us mere mortals, Wilson will be watching from home.Six-figure Knicks ticketsThink the get-in price is nuts?Sports finance analyst Darren Rovell noted how someone paid a whopping $279,804 to acquire to courtside seats to an NBA Finals game at MSG.That's $139,902 per ticket!Must be nice to have that kind of money.MORE NFL NEWSGiants best play at OTAs highlights Dart, Johnson, ReeseEarly favorite emerges in Vikings competition with Murray, McCarthySteelers have front-runner for QB2 between Howard, RudolphNFL insiders say 'not so fast' on Pats-Eagles A.J. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRajat Patidar plays down talk of T20 selection, says focus is on IPL finalAHMEDABAD: Rajat Patidar’s blistering IPL-2026 campaign has inevitably put him in the national spotlight, but the Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper insists his focus remains firmly on the final. The 32-year-old has amassed 486 runs in 14 matches at an average of 44.18 and a staggering strike rate of 196.76, with five fifties, leading RCB to another title clash.“I’m not looking forward to any selection regarding India,” Patidar said at the pre-final press conference on Saturday. He was equally guarded when asked if he saw himself captaining India in the format. “I don’t visualise being the T20 captain of India. Every captain wants to win trophies. Last year we did it, but this is a new season. You can’t keep talking about the past,” he said.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDarwin Nunez’s name ‘crops up’ in Barcelona’s Joao Cancelo talks with Al-HilalRIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA - AUGUST 29: Darwin Nunez of Team Al-Hilal FC celebrates scoring their first goal during the Saudi Pro League match between Al Hilal and Al Riyadh at Kingdom Arena on August 29, 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Photo by Abdullah Ahmed/Getty Images) | Getty Images Darwin Nunez’s name has reportedly cropped in conversations between Barcelona and Al-Hilal ahead of the summer transfer window. The two clubs have been discussing what happens next with Joao Cancelo, who has enjoyed a good loan stint at Barcelona from the Saudi Pro League club. Barca want Cancelo to stay but need to agreed a deal with Al-Hilal.During the discussions it appears Nunez’s name has been mentioned, per Mundo Deportivo. The striker’s had a tough time with Al-Hilal and could end up terminating his contract with the club.Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia last summer after losing his place in the Liverpool team. He has gone on to score six goals in 16 appearances in the Saudi Pro League for Al-Hilal this season. However, the Uruguayan hasn’t been able to play for the club in the Saudi Pro League since Karim Benzema was signed in the winter due to limits on foreign players.Nunez has therefore long been tipped to leave this summer and could move on a free. He has been linked to Barcelona previously, with Ramon Planes admitting the club previously came close to signing him as a replacement for Luis Suarez.Yet it’s not clear if there’s any definitive interest from Barca in Nunez, as MD are unsure whether Nunez’s name cropped up “as a proposal from Barça or an offer from Saudi Arabia.” For now, Julian Alvarez remains the club’s top target for the No. 9 position.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

But this is the only drawback of what has been a fantastic season.“Let’s not forget that the Premier League is a very tough division, which takes a lot out of you.”BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – MAY 30: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Paris Saint-Germain runs with the ball during the UEFA Champions League Final 2026 match between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC at Puskas Arena on May 30, 2026 in Budapest, Hungary. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM3 Colts players on offense who need big seasons to return to playoffsIn order for the Indianapolis Colts to return to the playoffs in 2026, which players on offense are going to have to play key roles for that to happen?Of course, the biggest part of this equation will be Daniel Jones and how he performs. By re-signing Jones this offseason to a two-year, $88 million deal, the Colts are banking on him returning to his previous form prior to injury. That said, we know that Jones, along with Jonathan Taylor, Alec Pierce, and Quenton Nelson, has to play at high levels for this team to be successful. Every team needs its star players to perform well. But looking beyond that group of players, which others can help elevate the ceiling of the Colts' offense in 2026?WR Josh DownsDowns has had strong production since entering the NFL in 2023. But last year, with the addition of Tyler Warren at tight end, his workload was reduced. Downs caught 58 passes for 566 yards, while averaging 9.8 yards per reception -- all of which were career lows. However, with Michael Pittman now in Pittsburgh, there will be a lot more targets to go around, and Downs is presumably one of the players who will benefit heavily from that.RG Matt GoncalvesLast season was Goncalves' first playing the guard position after being a tackle in college and during his rookie year with the Colts in 2024. Overall, Goncalves was able to hold his own, but now in Year 2 at that position, the Colts need him to take a big step forward. As a collective unit, the Colts need to carve out more consistent running lanes for Jonathan Taylor -- moving the ball on the ground during the second-half of last season was no easy task. That, in turn, made things more difficult on the passing game.RT Jalen TravisTravis made some starts late last season and will now have the opportunity to be the Colts' starting right tackle moving forward. The Colts' offensive line unit should be stout once again in 2026, but how good this unit can be will be determined by the growth of Goncalves and Travis. For any offense, consistency begins with the play up front."We're going to bet on some development," GM Chris Ballard said earlier this offseason, referencing Goncalves and Jalen Travis, which may tell us that neither is a lock to be a starter. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: Why these 3 Colts players on offense will be vital to team success0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTwo peas in a pod? Caitlin Clark’s struggles beginning to mirror Angel Reese’sCredit: Jaime Valdez-Imagn Images, David Gonzales-Imagn ImagesCaitlin Clark vs Angel Reese has been a generational rivalry, and it has resulted in a media storm that has helped catapult the WNBA into unprecedented levels of popularity.Reese got the better of Clark in college when her LSU Tigers defeated Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes in the national championship. However, entering this season, Clark has had more success as a professional across their WNBA careers. Clark won Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-WNBA first team.Clark has also reached the playoffs, something Reese has yet to accomplish. This season, it looked as if the narrative would continue, as Reese has struggled throughout the season with her offensive efficiency, while Clark, who is back after her second year in the league was decimated by injuries, looked through the first six games like she was back in her first-team form. However, across her last two games, both losses, Clark’s efficiency has been just as worrisome as Reese’s, as one social media user on X was quick to note.y’all wanna talk about efficiency now or does that only apply to angel??? https://t.co/w1fNVJ2HTzpic.twitter.com/zDkUUAXKij— jay.☆ (@reese4mvp) May 31, 2026While her struggles on the offensive end can largely be attributed to aberrations, Clark’s defense has become just as concerning. Teams are beginning to hunt for matchups with her on that end, and with Clark showing little resistance and at times seemingly lacking in effort, the Fever are struggling immensely to get stops.Indiana is approaching the quarter mark of the season, and it’ll need its star to figure things out on both ends if it wants to compete for a title. The post Two peas in a pod? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOfficial: Venturino withdraws from Italy squad, Serie B replacement called inOfficial: Venturino withdraws from Italy squad, Serie B replacement called inThe FIGC has confirmed that Roma’s Lorenzo Venturino has been forced to withdraw from the Italy national team squad ahead of June’s international friendlies, and that 22-year-old Cesena midfielder Tommaso Berti has been called in to replace him.Italy will play away against Luxembourg on June 3 and away against Greece on June 7 under the guidance of interim head coach Silvio Baldini, who is in temporary charge following the recent resignations of Gennaro Gattuso, Gianluigi Buffon and Gabriele Gravina.Baldini typically serves as Italy’s U21s coach, and so he has decided to name a squad made up almost entirely of the players he knows from the youth set-up. Of the 24 players he selected, only Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Palestra, Niccolo Pisilli and Pio Esposito have been capped at senior level.Among the original selections in Baldini’s squad was 19-year-old Giallorossi talent Venturino, who has, however, dropped out of the squad due to an unspecified agreement between Roma and the national team.NAPLES – FEBRUARY 15: Lorenzo Venturino of AS Roma during the Serie A match between SSC Napoli and AS Roma at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on February 15, 2026 in Naples. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.It will be McPherson's third start since returning from a forearm strain. He hasn't pitched longer than 2⅓ innings. However, O'Connor said McPherson threw five shutout innings in a team scrimmage on May 23."His return was all kind of predicated off being in a regional and an opportunity to start," O'Connor said. "Now, the opportunity has presented itself, and I know he's going to go out there as the competitor he is and give it everything he has for as long as I'll leave him in the game."O'Connor did not say if McPherson will be on a pitch count. McPherson, a sophomore, has a 3-1 record and 2.70 ERA. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFletcher chosen to replace Gilmour in Scotland squadManchester United teenager Tyler Fletcher has replaced the injured Billy Gilmour in Scotland's World Cup squad. The 19-year-old made his international debut as a half-time replacement in Saturday's 4-1 friendly win over Curacao at Hampden.Napoli midfielder Gilmour damaged his knee in a first-half incident and his withdrawal from the squad was announced later in the evening.Fletcher, son of former Scotland captain Darren, has played more minutes for Scotland than he has for his club, having come off the bench twice for United this season.Fletcher, whose twin brother Jack has chosen to represent England, was one of four young players added to the training squad last week by head coach Steve Clarke.Rangers' Connor Barron, Andy Irving of Sparta Prague and Lennon Milller of Udinese were other standby options Clarke had mentioned."I am devastated for Billy because he has been an integral part of our World Cup qualifying campaign," said Clarke."The timing of this injury is so, so cruel and we all feel for him."He knows what we all think of him as a footballer and a person and while no words will give him any comfort, I am certain Billy will have many major tournaments ahead of him in the future."Napoli team-mate Scott McTominay wrote on Instagram: "Absolutely devastated for you brother. Football is a cruel game and you don't deserve this, keep your head up. The players, staff and country love you."What we learned from Scotland's win over CuracaoShankland and Curtis make World Cup move - but will Clarke respond?Shankland nets double as Scotland put four past 10-man Curacao in World Cup send-offWhen asked about Fletcher's second-half showing at Hampden, Clarke told BBC Scotland: "Everybody was impressed - the players were impressed, the coaching staff were impressed, I had no doubts."I actually thought about putting him on as Billy came off but I just thought I'd have a little look, see how the game panned out before introducing him at half-time."Kenny McLean played with Darren Fletcher at the start of his international career and also spoke highly of the debutant."I said to the lads after his first session, I could see something special in him, so I was glad that he'd got on," said the Norwich City midfielder."In my first session with Scotland, Darren stood out a mile. Fortunately for us, his son is pretty similar. There's a lot of potential, it's about using him the right way."The Scotland party flies out to Florida on Sunday and there is a final warm-up game against Bolivia in New Jersey on Saturday 6 June.Having qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998, Scotland will take on Haiti, Morocco and Brazil in Group C.World Cup fixtures and group standingsHow to watch the World Cup on the BBCEverything you need to know about the World Cup0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKimi Antonelli Responds to Ferrari Rumors While Accepting the Bandini TrophyFormula 1’s newest superstar, Kimi Antonelli, has officially achieved hero status in Italy. The 19-year-old Mercedes prodigy, who currently leads the World Championship after a jaw-dropping streak of four consecutive victories, was recently honored with the prestigious Trofeo Bandini in the historic Italian village of Brisighella. But while the thousands of fans crowding the narrow streets were there to celebrate his incredible rookie season, they really only wanted the answer to one question: When is he putting on a red race suit?During his press conference at the 33rd edition of the Bandini Trophy, highlighted by the YouTube channel Il Piccolo Faenza, Antonelli was directly asked if he would ever race for Ferrari.Antonelli’s Mercedes Loyalty FlexYou have to respect how the teenager handled the pressure of a completely Ferrari-obsessed crowd.“Ferrari is a huge team with incredible support and a history that will last forever,” Antonelli acknowledged, beautifully playing to the home crowd. But he immediately shut down any imminent defection rumors. “But today I am a Mercedes driver, and I am very happy with them. They gave me a great opportunity from a young age, supported me throughout my entire journey, and I feel a duty to give my best for this team.”May 23, 2026; Montreal, Quebec, CANADA; Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli (12) during the qualifying session of the Lenovo Grand Prix Du Canada at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Mandatory Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn ImagesAntonelli owes his entire junior career trajectory to Toto Wolff’s Brackley squad. Mercedes funded his meteoric rise, throwing him directly into the W17 seat this season, and that gamble is paying off massively. Still, Kimi made sure to leave the door open just a tiny crack for the Tifosi, finishing his answer with a simple: “In the future, we’ll see.”A Shark Tank MentalityAntonelli didn’t just talk about team loyalty in Brisighella. He also made it crystal clear that he isn’t in Formula One just to play the nice guy. According to local Italian reports from the event (via cronachedi.it), the young driver described the F1 grid as “a tank full of sharks where you either eat or get eaten”. He added that “the angel face is only for the outside” and that his primary goal is to stay out in front and demand respect on the track. If you are George Russell on the other side of that Mercedes garage, hearing your teenage rookie teammate openly talking about eating sharks while dominating the championship standings has to be absolutely terrifying.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYouTube Gold: The Overlooked Greatness Of Moses MaloneOAKLAND, CA - JANUARY 1: Moses Malone #2 of the Atlanta Hawks shoots the ball, during the NBA game against the Golden State Warriors at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California on January 1, 1990. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and/or using this Photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by Tim Defrisco/NBAE via Getty Images) | NBAE via Getty Images Moses Malone has a unique place in ACC history. A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Malone was intensely recruited in high school, and ultimately chose Maryland. He would have enrolled in 1974. However, Malone, who grew up in grinding poverty, opted to sign with the Utah Stars of the ABA. If he had signed with Maryland, given the tendencies of the era, he probably would have stayed for at least three years. That would have meant he would have had teammates like Mo Howard, Brad Davis, Steve Sheppard, Albert King, and, most of all, John Lucas. Lucas was a superb point guard, and Malone would have been a huge weapon for him to work with. Consider this: in 1975, UCLA’s John Wooden won his last championship. In 1976, Indiana’s Bob Knight won his first. In 1977, it was Al McGuire and Marquette, and in 1978, it was Kentucky. That Indiana squad was undefeated for a reason: it was a phenomenal team. But the others? They were beatable. It’s not inconceivable that Maryland would have won two or more national championships with Malone. He might also have played on the 1976 Olympic team. This video looks at his greatness, what made him so extraordinary, and why today he is so often overlooked. But make no mistake: Malone could go toe-to-toe with anyone. Sadly, Malone died in 2015 of heart disease. He was just 60.Go to the DBR Boards to find Blue Healer Auctions || Drop us a line0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLowe future uncertain as contract expiry nearsJames Lowe scored his record-breaking 70th and 71st tries on his 100th Leinster cap [Getty Images]The future of Ireland and Leinster wing James Lowe remains uncertain after his record-breaking night against the Lions. The 33-year-old's contract will expire at the end of the season and there has not been any sign of a new deal.Lowe scored his 70th and 71st tries on his 100th Leinster appearance against the Lions in the United Rugby Championship quarter-finals on Saturday to take him clear of Shane Horgan's long-standing try record. Speaking to reporters after the 59-10 win, which booked a semi-final spot against the Stormers, head coach Leo Cullen declined to provide an update on Lowe's future."Listen, James will come out in terms of his own individual piece, so, it's not really right for me to comment on him at this moment in time," said Cullen, who stated pre-match that "conversations are always ongoing" but added that "some people will move on".Since arriving in Ireland in 2017 from the Chiefs in his native New Zealand, Lowe has established himself as a key player for the Irish province and on the international stage. If Lowe was to leave Leinster and move outside of Ireland then it would end his chances of being selected by head coach Andy Farrell for the 2027 World Cup in Australia. He made his Ireland debut in 2020 after qualifying through residency and has scored 17 tries in 45 international caps as he played a key role in the Six Nations titles in 2023 and 2024.Lowe also represented the British and Irish Lions last summer in the series win over Australia.Nine-try Leinster beat Lions to make URC last fourBefore Ireland's Six Nations win over Scotland in March, which secured the triple Crown, Farrell said he expected both Lowe and centre Bundee Aki to sign new contracts. Aki has agreed a new one-year deal to stay with Connacht but there has not been any progress with Lowe, who is contracted by Leinster rather than an central contract with the Irish Rugby Football Union [IRFU].Lowe did not make the squad for the Champions Cup final defeat by Bordeaux despite having returned from a hamstring injury sustained in the Six Nations win over England. However, his two record-breaking tries on Saturday show he is still a threat when fit and available. While Cullen declined to comment on his future, he did praise the impact Lowe has made since he moved to Ireland nine years ago."He's been a great character in the group. Very, very different, you know, what he brings, great energy," Cullen said after the game."Internally, we had a video there just in terms of some of the stuff that he's done in a Leinster jersey over his career."There's not many James Lowes running around the streets that we've come across so far. He's been a great addition to the group over the years."0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArteta calls on hierarchy to be 'ambitious, fast and smart'[Getty Images]"Pain" - that was the first word out of Mikel Arteta's mouth in his post-match news conference when asked how he would sum up his side's Champions League final defeat in Budapest.Arsenal, who were unbeaten in the competition this season heading into Saturday's final, missed out on becoming European invincibles with their penalty shootout defeat. Before the game, Arteta said he wanted to use their Premier League success as a platform to reach bigger destinations and aim for more silverware. But, unfortunately, his side fell at the final hurdle in their pursuit of a first European trophy, in their first Champions League final since 2006.Arsenal have still had an excellent season, having won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, but could the manner of the defeat be what pushes them on next season? The manager and players understandably looked dejected after the full-time whistle."It is very tough to accept when you are so consistent all the way to the final, and in the end you lose the trophy on penalties," Arteta said."We need to do better, we have to improve and we have to find different margins to get the outcome we want."He has already turned his attention to next season and helping Arsenal return to this stage."First of all, I will take a few days with my family and then we will start the process to review what we have done," he said. "We will have to start making some very important decisions if we want to reach another level."We are going to have to show that ambition because we are more than capable of doing it, but it is going to demand us to be very ambitious, very fast and very smart."Arsenal spent around £250m in last summer's transfer window and they look set to invest again, with a midfielder, left winger and striker all targets this summer."They are 100% not going away," former Manchester City defender Nedum Onouha told BBC Sport. "They have shown this season and last season that they are good enough to go deep in the Champions League."Even though they have lost, they are still one of the best teams in Europe."Read the full article here0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCaitlin Clark benched after heated exchange with coach Stephanie WhiteMay 22, 2026; Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) celebrates a made shot in the second half against the Golden State Valkyries at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Mandatory Credit: Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn ImagesSaturday night’s nationally televised game against the Portland Fire did not go as planned for the Indiana Fever, and the frustration was evident on the sidelines. The Fever entered Saturday night’s game as a 12-point favorite over the Fire as they looked to rebound from Thursday night’s loss to the Golden State Valkyries. However, Indiana was not the team that came away with a double-digit victory.Portland dominated the Fever from start to finish as Caitlin Clark had one of the worst games of her entire career, struggling on both sides of the ball. And during the game, frustrations seemed to boil over between Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White.Caitlin Clark StrugglesClark struggled on both sides of the ball throughout Saturday’s blowout loss. On the offensive end, Clark scored just six points in the game as she shot just 1-for-7 from the field and missed all three of her three-point attempts. While her struggles on offense were evident, Clark actually struggled even more on the defensive side of the ball. Throughout the game, Clark struggled to defend Fire guard Carla Weite, who finished the game with 18 points and 12 assists.Clark could not stay out of foul trouble, either, which caused her to spend a significant portion of the game on the bench.Clark Benched After Heated ExchangeIn the second quarter of Saturday’s game, Clark and White were caught having a heated exchange on the sideline during a timeout. A video captured by a fan in the stands showed the entire encounter. In the video, which has since gone viral on social media, White was quite animated as she had some passionate words directly for Clark. White pointed right at Clark multiple times and slapped her knee in apparent frustration.Thought Steph left her fire in Connecticut! pic.twitter.com/meFefzUAAf— Mostly WNBA Tweets (@MostlyWNBA) May 31, 2026 At first, Clark did not respond to White as she calmly drank water on the bench and looked away. Eventually, though, Clark did have an animated response of her own, holding her hands up while talking back to White. It’s not clear what was said during the heated exchange, but following the interaction, White immediately benched Clark, putting rookie Raven Johnson in the game in her place.Clark did re-enter the game about 2:30 later, but the incident and subsequent benching was still notable and led to several reactions on social media.Incident Goes ViralThe heated exchange between Clark and White quickly went viral on social media, racking up more than 400,000 views in under three hours as fans offered their reactions.“Being uncoachable when you’re on the court looking like barbecue chicken is crazy. Like it gets to a point. I lowkey feel bad for Stephanie White,” one fan wrote in a post on X.“Steph’s gonna ‘win’ these battles, but she is going to lose the war (her job) sooner rather than later,” someone else wrote.“What can justify talking back to your coach when you’re down 20,” someone else wrote.“Oh boy, told Clark to get up and let Raven sit down,” another fan added.“She’s so embarrassing, this happens every game. Steph has the patience of a saint, I would’ve told her to sit her [expletive] on the bench and find a new team,” someone else said.“She basically told Caitlin to hand Raven a water,” another fan wrote.Clearly, tensions were high between Clark and White. The post Caitlin Clark benched after heated exchange with coach Stephanie White appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMColts' coach highlights what Caden Curry brings to defenseDefensive end Caden Curry joins the Indianapolis Colts after a highly productive 2025 season at Ohio State.Playing behind other future draft picks early in his career at Ohio State, including Jaylahn Tuimoloau, Curry had to wait for his opportunity defensively. That then came in 2025, and he took advantage.Curry would go on to record 46 pressures and 12 sacks, according to PFF. Among defensive ends, he ranked 40th in pass rush win rate and was also one of PFF's highest graded run defenders at this position group. But along with the ability to get after the quarterback at a high rate, Curry also brings versatility to the Colts' defensive front -- an important element in Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme."He's smart enough that you can put him inside or he can stay on the edge," defensive line coach Marion Hobby said, via Colts.com. "You always want Swiss army knives in your room."That ability to move Curry around gives Anarumo the flexibility to throw different looks at opposing offenses and hunt for mismatches that can be exploited. Most likely, if we do see Curry move inside, that will come during obvious passing situations for an added pass rush presence. As of now, it remains to be seen how big a role Curry has defensively this season. There's a good amount of experience on the depth chart ahead of him. His biggest impact in Year 1 could end up coming on special teams. That said, his versatility could be what opens up some opportunities for him. This article originally appeared on Colts Wire: How Caden Curry can bring unique skill set to Colts' defensive front0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Need to do a better job’: Caitlin Clark does not make excuses after blowout lossMay 30, 2026; Portland, Oregon, USA; Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) chats with a referee during the second half against the Portland Fire at Moda Center. Mandatory Credit: Jaime Valdez-Imagn ImagesCaitlin Clark had one of the worst games of her career during Saturday night’s blowout loss to the Portland Fire as she struggled on both ends of the court and found herself in foul trouble most of the game. Now, it sounds like all she can do is bounce back. While Clark struggled on the offensive end of the court, scoring just six points on a 1-for-7 shooting performance, she was even worse on the defensive end. Clark struggled to defend Fire guard Carla Weite, who finished the game with 18 points and 12 assists, as she picked up five fouls before the fourth quarter even began. After the game, Clark addressed her defensive struggles and her foul trouble, making it clear that the officiating was not to blame.Caitlin Clark’s Defensive StrugglesClark has never been a strong on-ball defender, and the Fire took advantage of that by intentionally putting Clark in a position that required her to defend Weite in one-on-one isolation situations. Clark struggled to stay in front of Weite and defend without fouling, and that led to a lot of foul issues.Clark entered halftime with three fouls and picked up her fourth just two minutes into the third quarter. As a result, Fever head coach Stephanie White put Clark on the bench. After sitting on the bench for most of the third quarter, Clark checked back into the game at the 2-minute mark in the third quarter, but she picked up her fifth foul less than two minutes later and was immediately taken back out of the lineup. Clark remained on the bench until midway through the fourth quarter, but the game was already out of reach at that point.Clark’s foul trouble forced her to the bench far more often than she or the Fever would have liked. As a result, she was never able to develop a rhythm offensively.Clark Addresses StrugglesAfter the game, Clark was asked about her foul trouble and whether or not she felt that the new officiating emphasis played a role in her five fouls. While Clark has never been shy about criticizing the officiating in the past, she did not feel like it was an issue on Saturday night.“Officiating wasn’t our problem tonight,” Clark said after the game.Clark took the blame herself as she said that she simply needs to be better on the defensive side of the ball, especially if the opponent is going to look to put her in one-on-one iso situations.“It’s hard when you foul,” Clark said. “I just need to do a better job of being straight up and keeping the [opponent] in front of me. Also, if they’re going to hunt isos, just move my feet a little bit better. Definitely some tough ones, but that’s just basketball. It’s just a game. Learn from it, watch the film, come back next game, and be ready to go.”Clark and the Fever will have a chance to bounce back on Thursday with a showdown against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream. The post ‘Need to do a better job’: Caitlin Clark does not make excuses after blowout loss appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJets trust special teams coach Chris Banjo to revive Younghoe KooEarlier this week the New York Jets signed veteran free agent kicker Younghoe Koo. He joins Cade York and Lenny Krieg as kickers on the Jets’ offseason 90-man roster. Koo immediately becomes the favorite to win the kicking job, but that belief comes with faith in special teams coordinator Chris Banjo.Koo was a Pro Bowler with the Atlanta Falcons in 2020 and was once regarded among the best kickers in the league. The 31-year-old saw his productivity fall off a cliff in 2025. The Falcons released Koo after just one appearance after he missed a game-tying field goal in Week 1.Koo later signed with the New York Giants, but his struggles continued. The former Georgia Southern kicker was released after going 4-of-6, including two critical misses against the Washington Commanders in Week 15. Koo then went unsigned until joining the Jets now.Banjo is in his second season as the Jets' special teams coordinator. He appeared to do an excellent job in his rookie coordinating season with Jets kicker Nick Folk going an incredible 28-for-29 on field goals. It's worth noting Folk has been one of the league's most consistent kickers, so it's unclear how much of an impact Banjo's coaching made.Banjo has an opportunity to prove his value if he can get Koo back on track. This article originally appeared on Jets Wire: Jets trust special teams coach Chris Banjo to revive Younghoe Koo0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe reclined seating position that caused Fernando Alonso's Canadian GP retirementMotorsport photoAston Martin’s dismal start to the 2026 Formula 1 campaign has been well documented with problems across the AMR26 - most notably its power unit. But last weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix highlighted another issue after Fernando Alonso retired on lap 23 of 68 all because of his seating position. It was quite the shame because Montreal, looking at the bigger picture, was Aston’s best weekend of the season as Alonso progressed to SQ2 - albeit due to Alex Albon and Liam Lawson not setting a lap - before running inside the top 10 during the Sunday race, though again aided by favourable circumstances and some nice overtakes.Regardless, lap after lap the two-time F1 champion experienced an increasingly intense back pain that eventually caused his retirement because “we had this issue with the seat. “I felt increasingly uncomfortable,” Alonso said.“The position wasn’t right and since we were out of the points, far from the points zone, and with no threat of rain, we decided to put an end to the pain. We tried to adjust a few things last night, but it didn’t work."There is a backstory to this as well, as between Saturday and Sunday the technicians plus Alonso tried to modify the seat. This was done to see if the problem was related to that specific unit, which is molded to the driver’s shape with a carbon fibre structure to which supports are then added. But the situation didn’t improve, and in fact, there doesn't seem to be a defect in the seat itself. So according to Aston’s chief trackside officer Mike Krack, the cause is primarily due to the cockpit position which was modified from previous seasons to be even more reclined. This change was designed to lower the centre of gravity and, in theory, reduce the helmet’s exposure to airflow, thereby minimising turbulence and improving performance.Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin RacingFernando Alonso, Aston Martin RacingWhile the issue had surfaced in other races without ever forcing either driver to retire, in Canada the pain became unbearable. Onboard footage showed Alonso, on multiple occasions, moving his left hand from the steering wheel toward the inside of the cockpit between his legs, both on the straight before the final chicane and leading into Turn 8.What made the matter more serious is the kerb situation at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Compared to other races, they are used much more frequently and that amplified the vibrations. Krack said: “He hasn’t felt completely comfortable for a while now - never to the point of becoming a real obstacle, but it’s like a pressure point that gets worse lap after lap, and I think we need to reconsider the seating position a bit.“With these cars, you always try to sit as low as possible, and if you look at how drivers have been sitting in recent years, the position has become increasingly more relaxed. We need to check. Maybe we’ve gone a step too far, but it’s something we need to look into.”Clearly, the Silverstone outfit will now try to introduce temporary fixes ahead of next weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. But, as Krack explained, more extensive changes might be needed - ones that directly affect the driver’s position in the cockpit - even if this solution wouldn’t be so immediate. When asked if it was an issue that could be resolved with a new seat, or if it was due to a problem with that specific unit, Krack said: “No, I don’t think so. I think we may need to reconsider the situation a bit, going back to how we were in the past.” Read Also: How Aston Martin is navigating its issues, as Honda plots ADUO updates To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 51 Views 0 voorbeeld

APNEWS.COMUkraine hits Russian energy targets and denies striking Kremlin-occupied nuclear plantServicemen of Ukraine's defense intelligence set up drones against Russian in an undisclosed location in Ukraine late Thursday, May 28, 2026. (AP Photo/Efrem Lukatsky)2026-05-31T09:44:57Z Ukraine launched fresh strikes on Russian energy sites overnight into Sunday, Russian authorities and media reported, while Kyiv denied Russian claims that a Ukrainian drone struck a key Kremlin-occupied nuclear plant.Drone debris set fire to a fuel storage facility in Russia’s southwestern Rostov region, Gov. Yuriy Slyusar reported on Telegram on Sunday. He said residents of nearby homes were evacuated. The drones also damaged civilian infrastructure in Saratov province, also in southwestern Russia, according to Gov. Roman Busargin. Astra, an independent Russian news channel, said an oil refinery was on fire in the regional capital, Saratov.Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russia’s oil and gas facilities in recent months, arguing the energy sector both funds and directly fuels Moscow’s more than 4-year-old invasion.Meanwhile, Kyiv denied Russia’s claims that a Ukrainian drone struck the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the largest in Ukraine and Europe. Russian forces captured the plant in the early weeks of the war, and it remains close to the front lines in the southern Zaporizhzhia region, one of four Russia has formally annexed despite lacking full military control or international recognition for its actions. Russia’s state nuclear energy company, Rosatom, said on Saturday that the drone exploded after tearing a hole in the wall of a turbine hall. Rosatom’s CEO Alexei Likhachev accused Ukraine of a “deliberate” attack. Read More “This afternoon, a Ukrainian kamikaze combat drone struck the turbine hall building of Power Unit No. 6, resulting in a detonation,” Likhachev said. He added there was no damage to main equipment.Ukraine’s military denied Russia’s “yet another propaganda ploy,” saying it did not strike or target the plant. The military said in a statement that it adheres to international humanitarian law and is aware of the “consequences of any actions targeting nuclear facilities.” “Along the relevant section of the front line, there was no active fighting at the time of the incident, and no weapons were used,” it said.Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, voiced “serious concern” following the incident in a post on X. Ukraine’s state nuclear supervisory agency said the damage claimed by Russia must be verified by IAEA experts present at the Zaporizhzhia plant as part of a long-term monitoring mission. The Zaporizhzhia plant has repeatedly come under fire since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, sparking fears of a nuclear accident. Moscow and Kyiv have blamed each other for targeting the plant on purpose. Elsewhere, Ukraine’s air force said Sunday that it had shot down 212 of 299 drones launched by Russia overnight. It said 14 drones had reached their targets, while drone debris fell in five locations.Russian drones struck the city of Dnipro and an oil refinery in Ukraine’s Rivne region, causing fires, authorities said.Oleksandr Koval, the head of Rivne’s regional administration, said no one had been injured at the refinery, and that emergency services were at the site. ___Follow the AP’s coverage of the war in Ukraine at https://apnews.com/hub/russia-ukraine0 Reacties 0 aandelen 53 Views 0 voorbeeld

APNEWS.COMFrance detains hundreds after violent clashes as Paris Saint-German won Champions LeaguePolice try to disperses PSG supporters who left off fireworks as they celebrate in Paris, Saturday, May 30, 2026 after the Champions League final soccer match between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal that was played in Budapest, PSG won the game. (AP Photo/Thomas Padilla)2026-05-31T07:43:13Z PARIS (AP) — French police detained 780 people involved in violent clashes in Paris and other French cities that erupted Saturday night after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League title.Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said 57 officers were wounded, with most suffering minor injuries, as football fans set off fires and vandalized shops. One small group even tried to storm a Paris police station. Nuñez said at a news conference Sunday that “the situation has been largely brought under control.”“Most of the celebrations took place peacefully” across the French capital, he said, noting most incidents happened in the Champs Elysees neighborhood and close to the Parc des Princes stadium in western Paris where fans had gathered to watch the match.Police also intervened five times overnight to prevent people from blocking traffic on the main ring road around Paris, he said. Nuñez said incidents took place in about 15 cities in France, describing “one to two” shops vandalized in each other than Paris. He said 780 people were detained in all, with 480 of them in the Paris area alone. The Paris prosecutors’ office said 277 people have been formally placed in police custody, including 82 minors, for alleged offences. Most were for assault of police officers while other allegations include theft, vandalism and disturbing the public order. One serious accident involved a driver losing control of a car that rammed into a restaurant’s terrace, leaving two people wounded including one seriously, Nuñez said. Read More But Nuñez said that planned celebrations for the team’s win on Sunday afternoon at the Champ de Mars, near the Eiffel Tower, would go ahead as scheduled. He warned that police would respond with “firmness and determination” to any potential violence. The PSG team will then be hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee presidential palace. Fans began celebrating in Paris after the final whistle Saturday evening in Budapest, Hungary, where Paris Saint-Germain won by beating Arsenal on penalties in a dramatic final. Fans marched along the avenues near Paris’ Arc de Triomphe monument, with some setting off flares and blaring car horns. Around 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Elysees, where police worked to contain the crowd. The Paris police prefecture said smaller groups caused disturbances in various locations, with some vandalizing shops and setting fires to garbage and self-service bicycles in the streets. Cars were also set ablaze. Those who attempted to storm a police station in the posh 8th Arrondissement neighborhood were dispersed, police said. In May last year following PSG’s first title, 201 people were injured in the French capital and police made more than 500 arrests across France. ___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer SYLVIE CORBET Corbet is an Associated Press reporter based in Paris.
