Giants' Abdul Carter named a 'player poised for massive breakout'
New York Giants second-year linebacker Abdul Carter has been in the news for various reasons lately, and football has been at the bottom of the list. Time to switch gears on that. Carter is poised to build on a solid rookie campaign this year and has been identified by CBS Sports as one of their five NFL sophomores who are in for a "massive breakout" in 2026.Stardom is just within reach for 2025 NFL Draft third overall pick edge rusher Abdul Carter's grasp. His 66 quarterback pressures ranked as tied for the 12th-most in the entire NFL in 2025, and that figure was 21 more than the next closest rookie -- Atlanta Falcons edge rusher James Pearce. Jr. and his 45, according to TruMedia. However, Carter turned just four of those 66 pressures into sacks for sack-to-pressure rate that ranked 211th among 271 players with 100 or more pass-rush snaps. That production doesn't align with a player who possesses the bend, fluidity and athleticism of a player like Carter. With a full year under his belt and playing alongside Brian Burns, whose 16.5 sacks were the second-most in the NFL last season, and 2026 fifth overall pick Arvell Reese, Carter has what he needs to ascend to stardom. Carter will also benefit from the addition of first-round pick Arvell Reese, who will line up at the WILL backer position. Carter will play on the other side of veteran free agent Tremaine Edmunds at the right outside linebacker spot. The trio is expected to create mismatches for opposing offenses."Both of the young men, they love football, okay?" first-year defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson said this spring. "They are problems in terms of the pass-rush. It's hard for people to block them. Why? They're explosive off the ball. They can win on the edge. They have length. They can play underneath guys. They have numerous tools in their tool bag." This article originally appeared on Giants Wire: Giants' Abdul Carter named a 'player poised for massive breakout'

NBC Sports ranks all 32 NFL GMs (see where George Paton ranks)
The general manager is a sports unsung hero. They are responsible for drafting and signing players, roster construction, and hiring the coaches. It gives some credence to the late Jerry Krause, former GM of the Chicago Bulls, that organizations win championships.NBC Sports writer Patrick Daugherty decided to compile a list of the NFL’s general managers and rank them from 1-32. While Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman unsurprisingly finishes first, Denver Broncos GM George Paton, while sharing credit with head coach Sean Payton, is ranked tenth.“Sean Payton inherited a strong overall roster when he took the Broncos’ job in 2023," Daugherty wrote for NBC Sports. "It lacked a quarterback, but he has since found one in Bo Nix. A highly-questionable selection at the time, it is looking like Payton’s best pick since arriving in Denver. Obviously, that’s a great outcome since it comes at the most important position. It’s extra critical for Payton because he hasn’t drafted exceptionally well elsewhere. This roster has been more sustained by free agency than the draft. More power to you if you can pull that off, but it is typically a short-term trick.”A No. 10 rank is nothing to scoff at. It takes time and a vision to serve as the general manager of a franchise. But to win a Super Bowl, Paton and Peyton have to continue building together and serving their vision.Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Diamond Heels rally, beat Pirates 7-5 in the NCAA Tournament
UNC baseball overcame an early three-run deficit and came back to defeat East Carolina 7-5 in the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA tournament. The Heels are now only one win away from advancing to the Super Regionals. The Heels got off to a slow start. ECU got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first and promptly scored two runs on UNC starting pitcher Jason DeCaro. The Pirates played small ball to get there, using three singles and a bunt to score before Jeff Sabater hit a double and give ECU a 2-0 lead at the end of the inning. They added a third run in the third inning to take their largest lead of the game at 3-0.UNC’s bats woke up in the fourth inning. Erik Paulsen and Tyler Howe both hit singles to get on base before Colin Hynek launched a homer to deep center to bring them in and tie the game up at three apiece. East Carolina immediately yanked starting pitcher Luke Payne and replaced him with Charlie Hoagland, who managed to get the Pirates out of the inning without any further damage. ECU returned the favor in the bottom of the fourth, chasing DeCaro after he issued two outs walk. The Heels brought in freshman Caden Glauber. The Heels took the lead in the fifth inning on a sac fly by Paulsen, scoring Gavin Gallaher. The sixth inning saw UNC break the game open as the Heels scored three more runs to run the lead up to 7-3. RBI doubles by Jake Schaffner and Gallaher did most of the damage; meanwhile, Glauber did what he’s been doing all season and continued to mow down Pirate batters. ECU did manage to get two runs back off a seventh inning triple, but Glauber and closer Walker McDuffie held the line to give UNC the win.Glauber ended up getting the win; he threw 4.1 innings, allowing only three hits and two runs while striking out eight batters. McDuffie got credit for the save after striking out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth. Hynek finished with two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs; Gallaher was also a big part of the offense, driving in two runs while scoring once as well. Gotta tip my hat to Pirates second baseman Braden Burress as well, who managed to get on base every at bat; he finished with three hits, scored three runs, recorded an RBI, and was walked twice. Now the Heels get to rest and await the winner of tomorrow’s first game. VCU eliminated Tennessee 5-4 earlier on Saturday; the Rams and the Pirates will play to see who gets a shot at UNC Sunday evening. Hopefully, the extra rest will help the Heels wrap up the region quickly and advance.

Right mounts anti-LGBTQ+ attacks on Talarico while Maine kills anti-trans ballot question
Maine quashes anti-trans ballot initiative due to invalid signatures What the initiative did: Maine was one of several states to put a ban on trans sports participation on their 2026 midterms ballot, a move intended to bypass the state’s Democratic elected officials. But a court review of the signatures found irregularities, and Maine’s secretary of state ruled that not enough valid signatures were collected to put the question on the ballot. Why it matters: The attacks came all at once from Republicans across the country, using similar language. Allred has previously said he doesn’t “want boys playing girls’ sports,” which was criticized as an anti-trans dog whistle. Meet the Barcelona player who earned a place in the World Cup after playing just five minutes for his nation
Meet the Barcelona player who earned a place in the World Cup after playing just five minutes for his nationThere are World Cup stories that begin with a decade of caps, a truckload of goals and a nation already knowing and clamouring for the name to be included.Hamza Abdelkarim’s story begins differently: Five minutes. That is all the 18-year-old on-loan Barcelona forward has played for Egypt’s senior national team, and even that came after Hossam Hassan had already included him in the preliminary touring party to the United States for the marquee event.Hassan decided there was enough promise in the teenager to take him to the biggest tournament in football.Alongside Mohamed Salah and Omar MarmoushHamza Abdelkarim will go to the World Cup. (Picture credit: Instagram/@hamzabdelkarim)Abdelkarim has been named in Egypt’s final 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, featuring in a list that also includes names such as Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Egypt will play in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand and Iran, opening their campaign against Rudi Garcia’s team in Seattle on June 15.For Barcelona, it is a significant story. Perhaps their most surprising inclusion in the World Cup, Abdelkarim arrived on loan from Al Ahly earlier this year and has been part of the youth setup since. The Catalan club have an option to make the deal permanent for around €1.5 million plus add-ons.His only senior bow came in the recent friendly against Russia, which the Pharaohs won 1-0, when he came off the bench for the final five minutes of the game. All eyes on himHamza Abdelkarim is a key player to watch in the World Cup. (Photo courtesy: FC Barcelona official website)For any other player, five minutes would be a footnote. For Hamza, it has become a doorway. His impact and goalscoring for the youth team have travelled faster than his reputation. Eventually, Hassan had to make one cut for the final squad, and he left Aqtai Abdullah out.For Egypt, he is a calculated gamble. He may not get many minutes in the tournament, but he will be keen to impress with whatever is afforded to him. Barcelona and Hansi Flick will surely be watching. For the Catalan club, he is a potential investment suddenly attracting the global limelight, and if he can prove himself on the biggest stage, Barcelona could have the chance to sign one of the most promising young strikers around for an absolute bargain.

5 Eagles newcomers flying under the radar ahead of training camp
The Philadelphia Eagles added several headline-making players during the offseason, including cornerback Riq Woolen, edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, and first-round wide receiver Makai Lemon. Those additions have dominated offseason discussions, but some of the Eagles' most intriguing newcomers have received considerably less attention heading into training camp. Here are five additions flying under the radar as Philadelphia prepares for the 2026 season.Dontayvion Wicks, wide receiverMuch of the attention at wide receiver has focused on Lemon, DeVonta Smith, and the uncertainty surrounding A.J. Brown's future. Wicks could quietly emerge as a significant contributor in Sean Mannion's offense. Acquired from Green Bay, the former fifth-round pick brings size, route-running ability, and experience in a system connected to Mannion's coaching background. If he develops chemistry with Jalen Hurts, Wicks could push for meaningful snaps early in the season.Dameon Pierce, running backThe Eagles signed Pierce to provide competition behind Saquon Barkley, but the veteran brings more than depth.Pierce rushed for 939 yards as a rookie and has proven capable of handling a significant workload. With Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby also competing for touches, Pierce enters camp as a player who could quickly climb the depth chart if he recaptures his earlier form.J.T. Gray, safetySpecial teams additions rarely generate headlines, but Gray has built a long NFL career doing exactly that. The veteran safety signed with Philadelphia after spending time with several organizations and immediately upgrades the Eagles' special teams unit. His presence also adds depth and experience to a safety room undergoing significant changes.Eli Stowers, tight endThe second-round pick has been somewhat overshadowed by Lemon, but Stowers could carve out a meaningful role sooner than expected.Dallas Goedert remains the starter, yet the Eagles have long valued multiple-tight-end packages. Stowers arrives with upside as a receiver and the athletic traits needed to create matchup problems in the middle of the field.Markel Bell, offensive tackleOffensive linemen rarely generate offseason buzz, but Bell may become one of the most important developmental players on the roster. With questions surrounding Philadelphia's offensive line depth following the departure of longtime coach Jeff Stoutland, Bell enters camp with an opportunity to establish himself as a future contributor. The Eagles have consistently built through the trenches, and Bell could be the next player in that pipeline.Final analysisThe Eagles possess one of the NFL's deepest rosters, which often allows under-the-radar additions to develop without significant pressure. As training camp approaches, Wicks, Pierce, Gray, Stowers, and Bell all have pathways to larger roles than many observers currently expect. For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, uncovering contributors from that group could prove just as important as the performances of its established stars. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Under-the-radar Eagles newcomers worth watching this summer

MotoGP Italian GP: Marco Bezzecchi leads emotional Aprilia 1-2
Motorsport photoMarco Bezzecchi scored his first grand prix win since March and stretched his MotoGP championship lead after winning the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello on Sunday. On a spectacular weekend for Aprilia, Bezzecchi headed his factory team-mate Jorge Martin home, allowing the latter to entrench himself in second place in the championship standings.Francesco Bagnaia's third place helped Ducati salvage some pride at a circuit on which it had dominated in recent years.Bezzecchi made a far better job of the first corner than he had in the Saturday sprint, staying patient in the face of early resistance from Martin, who grabbed a brief lead. But Bezzecchi was back in front of his team-mate by the time they exited Borgo San Lorenzo on lap one. Read Also: MotoGP Italian GP: Raul Fernandez scores first sprint win in Aprilia 1-2 Sprint winner Raul Fernandez was already out of contention by this stage, having wildly outbraked himself at the first corner following a good start from the front row. The Trackhouse man was well outside the top 10 by the time he picked up the pieces. On lap two, Bagnaia took second from Martin. Then, a lap later, the factory Ducati went past the factory Aprilia of Bezzecchi, raising memories of many of a previous Mugello triumph for the two-time world champion.Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia RacingMarco Bezzecchi, Aprilia RacingBezzecchi, however, was simply playing a patient game, taking good care of his tyres as he sought to get back on the grand prix winning trail for the first time since Austin in March. Martin proved to be no major threat, remaining a safe distance behind in third as Bezzechi hung on to Bagnaia's rear tyre.On lap 14 of 23, Bezzecchi took advantage of a superb final sector on the previous lap and a subsequent 6km/h edge through the speed trap to simply drive past Bagnaia. He pulled away immediately, and when Martin swept through on Bagnaia two laps later, it became clear that the factory Ducati was beginning a serious battle for late-race pace. That put him at the mercy of Ai Ogura, who was on one of his trademark charges. The Japanese Trackhouse Aprilia rider reeled him in quickly over the last two laps, nosing up his inside at the final corner of the race. But Ogura ran wide, and Bagnaia defied the odds to hang on up the hill to the finish line and claim a home podium.Next up behind Ogura was Fabio Di Giannantonio, who had to recover from yet another dreadful start that dropped the VR46 Ducati rider outside of the top 10 on the first lap. Both Ogura and Di Giannantonio's charges were helped by Marc Marquez's ability to bottle up some of the riders they needed to pass, most notably Pedro Acosta. The KTM tried all kinds of tricks to get past the cunning but injured champion, only to be repeatedly thwarted as Marquez stubbornly held on.It was lap 16 before Acosta finally passed Marquez for good - but by then the pair had nothing for Ogura and Di Giannantonio. As Acosta and Marquez made do with sixth and seventh respectively, Fernandez had to settle for a disappointing eighth place. NFL Rule Change Could Force Detroit Lions to Leave Some Players Behind
The NFL has quietly made a scheduling change that could create a major headache for the Detroit Lions and several other teams at the end of training camp. For years, NFL teams played their final preseason game and then had until the following Tuesday afternoon to trim their rosters to 53 players. That timeline gave coaches and front offices a couple of days to review film, evaluate bubble players, and make some of the toughest decisions of the year. That luxury is now gone.Lions Facing a Much Shorter DeadlineUnder the NFL’s new rules, teams must finalize their 53-man rosters by Sunday, August 30 at 6 p.m. ET.For most teams, the adjustment won’t be dramatic because their final preseason game is scheduled for Friday night. The Lions, however, are one of four teams affected more significantly.Detroit’s final preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts is scheduled for Saturday, August 29 in Indianapolis. That means Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes, and the rest of the front office will have less than 24 hours after the final whistle to make dozens of roster decisions.Instead of spending Sunday reviewing game film and debating final roster spots, the Lions will essentially have to arrive at many of those decisions before the game is even played.Bubble Players Could Feel the ImpactWhile most roster spots are already spoken for by late August, the final few positions often come down to preseason performances. In previous years, a player could make a last-minute impression during the final exhibition game and give coaches time to carefully evaluate whether he deserved a roster spot. Now, there will be far less time for that process.Players fighting for jobs at positions such as wide receiver, linebacker, offensive line, and defensive back may find themselves impacted the most. A strong performance against the Colts could still matter, but the compressed timeline means decisions may already be leaning one way or another before kickoff. For fringe roster players, every hour matters. Why the NFL Made the ChangeThere is a positive side to the new schedule.By requiring teams to complete roster cuts on Sunday evening, the NFL can begin the waiver claim process much earlier.Teams will have until Monday afternoon to submit claims on players released by other organizations. That gives clubs additional time to bring new players into the building before Week 1 preparations begin. For the Lions, that could prove beneficial. If Brad Holmes identifies a player released elsewhere who fits Detroit’s roster, the team would have nearly two full weeks before its regular-season opener against the New Orleans Saints to get that player acclimated.Lions Must Be PreparedThe reality is that Holmes and Campbell likely have most of their roster decisions mapped out well before the final preseason game arrives.Still, the new deadline removes flexibility from the process. The Lions, Colts, Bears, and Titans now face a unique challenge that most of the league avoids. Rather than spending Sunday carefully reviewing every final roster battle, they’ll be racing against the clock. For a team with playoff aspirations and one of the deepest rosters in the NFL, that could mean some difficult decisions have to be made faster than ever before.

Survive And Advance, Tide Beats USC Upstate 7-5
May 30, 2026; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron (1) tracks down a softly hit line drive between short and third in the Tuscaloosa NCAA Regional winner’s bracket game between Alabama and USC Upstate in Sewell-Thomas Stadium. | Gary Cosby Jr. / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Alabama Crimson Tide is one win away from hosting a Super Regional next week. After defeating Alabama State 21-3 on Friday night the Tide defeated South Carolina Upstate 7-5 on Saturday night. The game scheduled for 6 p.m was delayed until a 7:36 start time because of potential rain. That rain didn’t come until the third inning of the game, but the teams played through it. SCU defeated Oklahoma State 8-5 on Friday. OSU defeated Alabama State 8-7 in 11 innings on Saturday and will play Upstate Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Tide awaits the win of that game for a 7 p.m. CT game on Sunday. In Saturday’s game Alabama junior left hander Zane Adams faced off with fellow left hander Chris Torres for USC Upstate. The Tide was designated as the visiting team under the NCAA Regional Rules, but were allowed to use their normal dugout and bullpen. In the 1st Bama got a two out single from Brady Neal and a walk to Jason Torres, but could not push a run across. Adams also worked around a walk and single in the bottom half of the frame. Neither team threatened in the 2nd inning. In the to top of the 3rd the Tide broke through. Justin LeBron lined a one out single to centerfield and stole second base. After Neal struck out for out two, Torres blasted a double into the left field corner to score LeBron. Johnny Lemm was hit by a pitch to bring freshman slugger Eric Hines to the plate. In a steady rainfall the big Tuscaloosa native muscled a ball the other way over the right field fence for a three run home run and a 4-0 Bama lead. The Spartans used a one out double, an error, and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 4-1. Alabama matched that run in the top of the 4th inning. Bryce Fowler blasted a two out triple off the center field wall, his second three bagger in the last two games. LeBron stroked a single into left field to scored Fowler, then stole second base for his 40th stolen bag of the year in 41 attempts. A strikeout stranded the shortstop there. Upstate cut into the lead in the bottom half, with some help from some shoddy Tide defense. After a lead off single by Trey Bentley, Adams threw the ball away on a pick off attempt allowing Bentley to advance to second. A single and a sacrifice fly brought the Spartan’s centerfielder home. Wylie Waters then singled to put two runners on, but a nifty double play started by a ground ball to Adams, who threw to LeBron, who fired to first, ended the inning.Bama added to the lead in the top of the fifth. Torres drew a walk and moved to third on a single by Lemm. Lemm, the Tides primary catcher, suffered a hand injury in Friday nights win and was doubtful to play. However after treatment and a special glove he was able to fill the DH role on Saturday night. Hines struck out before Brennan Holt was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luke Vaughn lined out to bring Peyton Steele to the plate. Steele worked a full count walk to drive in Torres, making the score 6-1. Fowler grounded out to end the inning. Adams worked around two two- out walks in the bottom half to hold the score. The Tide got their last run of the game in the of the sixth. Leading off, LeBron slammed his second home run in as many days over the left field wall, his 16th of the season. Adams was back out for the bottom half and after allowing a lead off single before using a line out and two strikeouts to end his outing with a 7-2 lead. Adams allowed six hits, three walks, two unearned runs, and struck five.Vaughn was hit by a pitch and Fowler singled in the 7th, but the Tide couldn’t score either man. Matthew Heirberger replaced Adams and was also victimized by his teams defense. Henry Zenor reached on an error by Holt at second base, and advanced on a walk. Holt and LeBron combined for a double play that moved Zenor to third base. Johnny Sweeney then smoked a home run to right field to cut the lead to 7-4. At this point all four Spartan runs were unearned. Torres and Lemm both singled in the 8th, but a double play rapped into by Hines ended that threat. Heiberger allowed a bloop single just out of the reach of LeBron in the bottom half. The Tide went down in order in the 9th to set up the nerve wracking finish. After a ground out by Zenor, Maloy Heaghney laced a single. Tyler Lang hit a ball in the hole at shortstop where LeBron made the play and laser throw to retire him a first base, and Heaghney advanced to second. With two outs Torres fielded a ground ball at third base and appeared to hesitate on the throw, that sailed wide, putting runners on the corners. Bentley slapped a double into the left field corner to score one and push Sweeney to third base. Chase Kroeberger, into the game as a defensive replacement, just missed throwing Bentley out at second on the play. Bama challenged the safe call, but did not win the challenge. With the tying runs in scoring position and the winning run at the plate, Jake Armsey smoked a ball to deep centerfield that Fowler hauled in a few feet from the wall to end the game with the Tide on the good end of the 7-5 score.Bama hit 11-37 in the game with four walks, four hit batters, a triple, a double, two home runs, two stolen bases, struck out seven times, and left 11 men on base. The biggest issue was the Tide committed six errors. Bama did turn three key double plays.LeBron finished 3-5 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases, as well as several highlight reel plays at shortstop. Fowler was 2-5 with a triple and a run, Torres hit 2-3 with two walks, two runs, and a run driven in. Lemm was 2-4 with a hit by pitch and a run. Hines drove in three with hit 9th home run of the season. Adams improved to 7-4 with the win after not allowing any earned runs. Heiberger earned his 5th save of the season year with his three inning outing. Heiberger allowed four hits with one walk, one strikeout, and two runs-both of which were unearned. South Carolina Upstate hit 10-36 with four walks, one home run, two doubles, one sac fly, and left 1o on base. Bentley and Armsey led the way with hits each. Wyatt Land, the second Spartan pitcher, was the loser and fell to 1-2 on the year. USCU used three pitchers two innings each and one for the last three frames. The win improved the Tide to 39-19 on the year, and on the cusp of reaching Super Regional play for the second time since 2023. One more win this weekend, weather it comes tonight or in a winner take all game on Monday, would put Bama as a Super Regional host for the first time since 2006. The defensive woes that had improved over the last several games, reared its ugly head again last night. Four of the six miscues were throwing errors, and that needs to be cleaned up. It is a testament to the pitching staff to only allow five runs-all unearned- with that type of play behind them. LeBron is playing like the best player in the country right now and drew praise from Carolina coach Kane Sweeney, calling the shortstop “one of the most explosive players I’ve seen in person, and honestly kind of fun to watch. I wish we weren’t playing against him tonight, but he is definitely a really good baseball player.” Fowler has been the spark for the Tide for much of the season and has continued that during this Regional run. The Tide will play the winner of the Upstate and Oklahoma State winner at 7 p.m. tonight. The Cowboys and Spartans will faced off at 2 p.m in an elimination game. US strike on an alleged drug boat kills 3 in the eastern Pacific Ocean in fourth attack this week
President Donald Trump speaks during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in Washington, as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, looks on. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)2026-05-31T13:08:28Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military said it carried out another strike Saturday on a boat accused of smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing three men in the fourth attack this week and putting the total death toll at 205.U.S. Southern Command announced the strike with its usual language that the vessel was “engaged in narco-trafficking operations” and operated by a designated terrorist organization. It provided no evidence for the allegation. It’s the latest in a monthslong campaign against alleged drug boats traversing the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific.Video released by the military on social media shows a small vessel floating in the ocean before it’s hit and engulfed in a fireball. The attack brings the death toll to 205 in a series of U.S. strikes that began in early September, with other attacks announced on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The Trump administration has declared that the U.S. is at armed conflict with Latin American drug cartels, saying they are behind the flow of drugs into American communities.U.S. Southern Command said in its post on X that the strike came at the direction of Gen. Francis L. Donovan, the top U.S. commander in Latin America.

As the Pentagon pushes for battlefield AI, some military leaders urge caution
Pages from the Anthropic website and the company's logo are displayed on a computer screen in New York, Feb. 26, 2026. (AP Photo/Patrick Sison, File)2026-05-31T12:56:37Z TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Trump administration is pushing to unleash the power of artificial intelligence for the U.S. military while facing calls to put up guardrails around the rapidly developing technology from some companies — and even notes of caution from top leaders in uniform.Adm. Frank Bradley, head of U.S. Special Operations Command, told attendees of a recent annual special forces conference in Tampa, Florida, that troops “have to be very careful about how we come to (AI’s) employment and its inspiration into the delivery of lethality.”Bradley said he can see a future where AI determines what targets to hit but that “we, as humans, have to have the confidence that ... it’s going to deliver violence only where we intend it to be delivered.”The remarks from Bradley, who oversees the units that handle the military’s most difficult and dangerous operations, about the need to ensure safeguards come as his boss, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, is pushing to rapidly evolve the military through AI. It is a push that has led to clashes with some tech companies worried about safety measures. Hegseth has insisted that the Pentagon be allowed to use the technology any legal way it sees fit. He told an audience of SpaceX employees in January he would reject any AI models “that won’t allow you to fight wars” and that his vision for the technology was systems that operate “without ideological constraints that limit lawful military applications.” AI’s use in the military is part of the Republican administration’s larger push to grow the capability it sees as a unique American advantage even as it faces pressure to ensure responsible safeguards. Read More President Donald Trump abruptly called off plans to sign a new AI executive order hours before an expected White House ceremony over concerns the measure could dull America’s edge on AI technology.“We’re leading China, we’re leading everybody, and I don’t want to do anything that’s going to get in the way of that lead,” Trump told reporters. Two differing AI worlds within the militaryWhen asked about Bradley’s remarks, a Pentagon official said efforts are focused on using AI to create “functional battlefield tools” that can help troops come up with and identify targets more quickly and, as a result, speed up strikes on those targets. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to offer more candid remarks.Officials at U.S. Special Operations Command talked about AI not as something that will help eliminate targets but rather as a tool that can offer troops more time to focus on their mission.Sgt. Maj. Andrew Krogman, the top enlisted official for U.S. Special Operations Command, said at the conference that he sees AI handling administrative tasks to free up operators or helping modernize how the command does business.Melissa Johnson, the top acquisition official for the command, said AI should be “reducing the cognitive workload on mundane tasks.”“We’re leveraging AI more and more, but it’s not to replace operator judgment, it’s to enhance it,” she added.Helen Toner, interim executive director at Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology, said those differing descriptions about AI in the military are both true. “There are a huge number of potential uses for AI in these kinds of bureaucratic settings, which the U.S. military is actively exploring,” Toner said.Lt. Gen. Michael Conley, head of Air Force Special Operations Command, told a congressional committee in May that his troops used AI “bots” to convert top secret intelligence down to a secret classification within seconds to make it easier to share with drone operators on the ground during the Iran war. However, there is no doubt that AI also is helping the military find and strike targets. The center that Toner oversees published a case study two years ago on how the Army’s 18th Airborne Corps used AI to target artillery strikes “just as efficiently as the best unit in recent American history” and with 2,000 fewer service members.“Human operators are still the ones making crucial decisions, but AI ... is making it possible to operate with a new level of speed and scale,” she said. AI safety has created a public dispute between the Pentagon and AnthropicThe clash over the integration of AI into the military, who ultimately controls the technology and the ethics behind its use has played out in unusually public fashion during the Trump administration.Hegseth and Anthropic are embroiled in a bitter contract dispute over the company’s concerns about unchecked government use of its technology, including the dangers of fully autonomous armed drones and of AI-assisted mass surveillance that could track dissent. After CEO Dario Amodei refused to back down over concerns about how the chatbot Claude is used in classified Pentagon networks, both Trump and Hegseth accused Anthropic of endangering national security. The Pentagon formally labeled the San Francisco-based company a supply chain risk — ending its $200 million defense contract and prohibited other government contractors from working with the company. Anthropic sued, claiming the Pentagon is illegally retaliating by stigmatizing the company with a designation meant to protect against sabotage of national security systems by foreign adversaries. The Pentagon has since emphasized its turn to Anthropic rivals — including Google, OpenAI and SpaceX — to secure AI technology that can “augment warfighter decision-making in complex operational environments.”Toner, a former OpenAI board member ousted after a clash with CEO Sam Altman, said “the general public often seems to underestimate the caution with which the U.S. military approaches new technologies.”“Commanders want their missions to succeed, which means both being able to create lethal effects at scale, and avoiding unintended effects like friendly fire, civilian casualties, or simply identifying targets incorrectly,” she said. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

    A.J. Brown week is here
When receiver A.J. Brown was traded from the Titans to the Eagles — and when then-Titans coach Mike Vrabel's body language made clear his thoughts on the move — it happened suddenly. The next trade of Brown has been a slow burn. Most expect Brown to be traded soon. The key date is June 1, because that's the moment at which the Eagles can push millions in dead money into 2027.Under the CBA (Article 13, Section 6(b)(ii)), the key language is "on or before June 1." That means the trade can't become official until June 2.Brown presumably will be required to pass a physical before the deal is done. As the Maxx Crosby non-trade to the Ravens made clear, there's no guarantee that the physical will be passed. (Given the multiple reports that the Rams backed out of a potential deal for Brown in March due to available medical information, no player physical is a no-brainer.)It doesn't have to happen on June 2. When Vrabel's Titans did a post-June 1 trade with the Falcons for receiver Julio Jones in 2021, it happened on June 6. As long as it occurs after June 1, the Eagles get the benefit of the delayed acceleration of Brown's prorated bonus money. Our sense as to the current status of the situation is this — and it's a semi-educated assessment, not a "report." The Eagles and Patriots have a tentative deal in place, and it's been there since before the draft. But the Eagles have retained the ability to accept a better offer if they get one. And the Patriots are confident that the Eagles won't get a better offer.Another team could swoop in at the last minute. Reports that the Eagles want a 2027 first-round pick imply that the Patriots haven't offered one. And it also sends a message that, if another team wants to snatch Brown away from the Patriots, a 2027 first-round pick will do that. The recent report that the Eagles and Patriots are "not particularly close" on a deal seemed to be a last-ditch effort by the Eagles to get someone else to the table. That said, another team would have to persuade Brown to embrace that opportunity. He wants, by all appearances, to reunite with Vrabel and to play for the Patriots. Even though Brown doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, no team is going to give up a first-round pick for a player who doesn't want to play there.If/when the Eagles trade Brown to the Patriots, the depth chart in New England becomes very crowded. Brown immediately would be the No. 1 receiver, with newcomer Romeo Doubs sliding to No. 2. Mack Hollins or Demario "Pop" Douglas would be No. 3. The other would potentially be No. 4. Kyle Williams, a third-round pick in 2025, would be fighting for playing time and targets.Kayshon Boutte, who has been absent from offseason workouts, would potentially be traded. (He could be part of the Brown deal, but that would leave the Eagles with too many receivers, too, given the offseason arrivals of Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, and first-round rookie Makai Lemon.)The first step is the A.J. Brown trade. If it happens. When it happens. The "when" could be this week. And the biggest surprise at this point would be a decision by the Eagles to not trade him. All signs are pointing to the Eagles moving on. Whatever the root cause of the dysfunction, the relationship has run its course. And the Eagles, as some in league circles firmly believe, need to do it this year to avoid an even more complicated cap situation in the future. For the Eagles and Patriots is now. More accurately, the future is as soon as Tuesday.

Dylan Harper’s mom reveals what she told him after NBA Finals berth
Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty ImagesDylan Harper’s Western Conference finals breakthrough became a family moment after the San Antonio Spurs guard embraced his mother, Maria Harper, following a Game 7 win over Oklahoma City. The moment carried more weight than a standard postgame celebration. Harper had just helped San Antonio reach the Finals after a Western Conference Finals series that tested his body, role and confidence. That made Maria Harper’s message feel bigger than encouragement. It sounded like a parent reminding her son that the difficult parts had not been wasted.Photo by Soobum Im/Getty ImagesDylan Harper’s mom’s message defines Spurs NBA Finals berthThe NBA shared the emotional embrace between Harper and his mother after the Spurs punched their Finals ticket.Maria Harper told him, “You go through all your life experiences. Last year was a tough year… it all lines up for this.”That quote fits because Harper’s playoff run had already demanded a response. He dealt with a right leg issue earlier in the Western Conference Finals, then had to fight through a short scoring slump before finding rhythm again. His Game 6 performance helped push the series to its deciding night. Harper scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and added four assists in San Antonio’s 118-91 win over Oklahoma City.Spurs beat Thunder in Game 7 to reach NBA FinalsSan Antonio finished the job with a 111-103 Game 7 win over the Thunder. That victory sent the Spurs to their first NBA Finals since 2014.Harper was not the headline scorer in the clincher, but that does not make his role small. Rookie guards rarely get a clean playoff path, and Harper’s series showed exactly why patience matters. The Spurs needed him to stay ready after an uneven stretch. He did that, and the Game 6 response gave San Antonio another trusted bench option entering Game 7.That is why the embrace with his mother worked so well. It captured the pressure behind the achievement, not just the achievement itself.Read more:Dylan Harper finds form at perfect time as Spurs rookie reaches Donovan Mitchell territory

Dustin Johnson says when he last felt so confident about his game after finishing fourth at LIV Golf Korea
Photo by Jung Yeon-je / AFP via Getty ImagesDustin Johnson was at least three shots better than anyone else over the final two rounds at LIV Golf Korea. Johnson went into the week in 27th in the LIV Golf standings. He had managed to register just one top 10 finish all season, with the 4Aces captain finishing tied for 10th in Singapore. The 41-year-old did not get off to the best start in Busan. The two-time major champion was level par after the first two rounds. He made eight bogeys across Thursday and Friday. However, he would not drop another shot over the remainder of the tournament. Johnson finished 10 under par for the week to end up in fourth place, two shots off making the playoff involving Joaquin Niemann and Talor Gooch.Dustin Johnson reacts to finishing fourth at LIV Golf KoreaIt was his first top five finish since Indianapolis last year. And Johnson suggested that he was particularly pleased with his performance given that he had not been feeling well at the start of the tournament.“Starting really Saturday of the PGA, I’ve been really close, but actually felt really good. Even though I played really good on Sunday, I putted terribly. Played really well, drove it well,” he said.Photo by Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images“Even this week, unfortunately on Wednesday, I just got sick, and I barely made it through Thursday and Friday. It was everything I could do just to finish the rounds Thursday and Friday.“Then felt a little better yesterday and a little bit better today, but still felt like s—.“But I’ve been really swinging really nicely and rolling the putter good, too. I hit so many good putts today that could have gone in the hole and just didn’t make anything.”Dustin Johnson says when he last felt so confident about his gameThere has been a perception, fairly or not, that Johnson does not have the same drive that he had before he decided to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in 2022.He has won three times on LIV. The 2025 season was the first where he failed to register an individual victory. Nevertheless, it remains the case that Johnson has not had a top five finish in the majors since the 2020 Masters. He was asked after Sunday’s final round whether this is the best he has felt about his game in some time.“Yeah, it’s been a couple years. It’s felt close, but, finally I feel like it’s consistent, like I’m finally driving it like I normally do. So it obviously takes a lot of pressure off the rest of your game,” he said.“Now I can focus more on my wedges and my irons and chipping and putting. I was driving it so poorly, all I was focusing on was driving it because that’s one of the strengths of my game. But it’s nice to see the game is coming around, and it’s really good.”LIV Golf will certainly benefit if Johnson can now edge closer to something like his best.He remains one of their biggest names, despite his form over the last couple of years. And while he may be approaching the twilight of his career, it would definitely be a much-needed boost for LIV if Johnson’s fourth place finish in Korea is a sign of what is to come.

RCB vs GT, IPL 2026 Final: Home advantage or batting depth — where the title may ultimately be decided
NEW DELHI: The wait is over. The IPL 2026 season has reached its final destination, and fittingly, the two most consistent teams of the tournament will fight for the trophy.IPL 2026 Final LiveDefending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and former winners Gujarat Titans will clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, with both sides chasing a second IPL crown. There is no second chance now. One team will complete a remarkable campaign with silverware, while the other will be left wondering what might have been.On paper, there is very little to separate the finalists. Both teams won nine matches each during the league stage and finished as the top two sides on the points table, with RCB edging ahead only on net run rate. Both teams won their respective home fixtures against each other earlier in the season.RCB may have gained a psychological edge after comprehensively defeating GT in Qualifier 1, but the final presents a different challenge altogether. This time, the Titans will play in familiar conditions in Ahmedabad, a venue where they comfortably defeated RCB during the league phase.Adding another twist to the contest is the contrasting preparation time. RCB have enjoyed nearly a week of rest after sealing their place in the final on Tuesday. GT, meanwhile, had to battle through Qualifier 2 on Friday and were further delayed in reaching Ahmedabad, arriving only late on Saturday evening.Whether the longer break helps RCB remain fresh or whether GT carry valuable match momentum into the final remains one of the biggest unknowns heading into the title clash. Two modern IPL powerhousesSince entering the competition in 2022, Gujarat Titans have established themselves as one of the league's most successful franchises. They won the title in their debut season and reached the final again in 2023. Sunday's match will be their third final appearance in five seasons, while they have now qualified for the playoffs four times in five years.RCB's rise has been equally impressive. After years of heartbreak, they finally ended their title drought last season and have emerged as one of the most consistent sides in recent campaigns. Sunday's encounter will be RCB's fifth IPL final as they attempt to become only the third franchise after Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to successfully defend the trophy.History also appears to favour RCB. The winner of Qualifier 1 has lifted the trophy in each of the last eight IPL seasons. Yet history alone will not decide the champion. The key battles on the field could.New-ball battle could shape the first halfGT's batting success has largely revolved around one unstoppable force — the opening pair of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The duo have rewritten partnership records throughout the season and remain among the leading run-scorers in the competition. Gill has amassed 722 runs, while Sudharsan has contributed 710. Together with Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (776), they occupy the top tier of the batting charts.Behind them, Jos Buttler has added another 507 runs, giving GT arguably the most productive top three in the tournament.Their biggest challenge, however, arrives in the form of RCB's experienced new-ball attack.Bhuvneshwar Kumar has enjoyed a sensational campaign, collecting 26 wickets from 15 matches and placing himself firmly in contention for a third Purple Cap. Significantly, 15 of those wickets have come inside the powerplay. His ability to swing the new ball and break partnerships early could prove decisive against GT's formidable opening pair.Alongside him stands Josh Hazlewood, a bowler with an enviable record in major finals. The Australian pacer has featured in five previous T20 finals and finished on the winning side every time. Experience under pressure is often priceless on nights like these.GT's pace attack, however, is equally threatening.Purple Cap race leader Kagiso Rabada has been devastating with the new ball, taking 17 of his 28 wickets during the powerplay. Mohammed Siraj has claimed 13 of his 18 wickets in the same phase, making GT arguably the most dangerous side with the new ball this season. That places immediate pressure on Virat Kohli and RCB's top order. Kohli has once again led RCB's batting charts with 600 runs. Injuries and form issues have forced changes around him, but the expected return of Phil Salt provides added stability at the top.The opening exchanges of the final may therefore resemble a mirror image — elite top-order batters attempting to survive against two of the best new-ball attacks in the competition.Batting depth may decide the titleIf the first six overs are likely to be evenly contested, the latter stages of the innings could ultimately determine who lifts the trophy. This is where RCB appear to hold a significant advantage.GT's batting has been heavily dependent on its top three. Beyond Gill, Sudharsan and Buttler, Washington Sundar's 327 runs represent the next most substantial contribution. Rahul Tewatia has chipped in with 183, while the remaining middle-order batters have struggled for consistency.RCB, by contrast, possess multiple match-winners across the batting order.Alongside Kohli, Rajat Patidar has scored 486 runs and Devdutt Padikkal has added 463. Tim David (281), Krunal Pandya (225), Phil Salt (202) and Venkatesh Iyer (177) have all delivered important contributions at different stages of the tournament. That depth has been reflected in RCB's results. Eight different players have won Player of the Match awards in RCB victories this season, highlighting the variety of match-winning options available.Krunal's all-round influence has been particularly valuable. He is one of only two players this season to score more than 200 runs while also taking over 10 wickets, underlining his importance in pressure situations.Gujarat Titans' formula remains simpleDespite questions around depth, GT possess a straightforward blueprint that has repeatedly delivered success. They have won six of the seven matches in which Gill and Sudharsan have survived beyond the fifth over. When the opening pair settles, GT become extremely difficult to stop. The challenge for RCB is therefore clear: strike early and expose a middle order that has not faced consistent pressure throughout the season. For GT, the mission is equally obvious. Allow their star opening pair to lay the platform and let their powerful pace attack squeeze RCB thereafter. The final promises a fascinating clash between GT's home advantage and RCB's superior batting depth. In a contest featuring two remarkably complete sides, that difference may ultimately decide which team lifts the IPL trophy on Sunday night.

San Francisco Giants Call Up Hot-Hitting Outfielder Jonah Cox
RICHMOND, VA: San Francisco Giants prospect Jonah Cox of the Richmond Flying Squirrels runs to third base during an Eastern League game against the Somerset Patriots at CarMax Park on April 21, 2026. (Photo by Matthew Mitrani/Minor League Baseball via Getty Images)Minor League Baseball via Getty ImagesJonah Cox has hit his way from the ninth spot in a minor league batting order to a call up to the Major Leagues. The San Francisco Giants summoned the 24-year-old outfielder from the Richmond Flying Squirrels before last night’s Double-A Eastern League game in Akron against the RubberDucks. A clubhouse source said the Colorado native could make his MLB debut today in Denver against the Rockies.Cox opened the 2026 season with the reputation as a fast, fine-fielding outfielder trying to find a way to make consistent contact at the plate. He now leads the EL with a .400 batting average and 27 stolen bases. For most of the first six weeks, he hit ninth as a secondary leadoff guy trying to get on base and utilize his speed. A bunt single often led to a steal of second and perhaps a wild throw sending him to third.Cox’s confidence grew and he continued to work on his swing. He began slashing line drives to the opposite field and occasionally lifting the ball for a home run. He was moved up in the order and eventually to leadoff. His batting average soared to .420.Several scouts in the stands this week were immediately impressed with his speed as well as his willingness to take an outside pitch the other way and not try to do too much.I wrote about Cox’s career for forbes.com earlier this month. UNC stars Colin Hynek and Caden Glauber react to big ECU win
The North Carolina Tar Heels are one game away from a regional championship and hosting another series next weekend. UNC took a step forward in their path to Omaha by beating East Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Coming off a win over VCU on Friday, the Diamond Heels fell behind early to the Pirates. But clutch relief pitching and the bat of Colin Hynek got them on track.UNC rallied and scored seven unanswered runs to get the 7-5 win over the Pirates. They now await the winner of East Carolina and VCU on Sunday with the chance to punch their ticket to the Super Regional round. But before that, let's read what Hynek and pitcher Caden Glauber had to say about the win.Colin Hynek“It was a lot of fun being able to bring the team back into that game. I haven’t played in the postseason, haven’t played past a conference tournament, so you know that’s part of why I came here, to be in moments like this. So to be able to come through, that was pretty special, and something I’ll remember forever.”On the timeout conversation with Coach Forbes before the HR“He just told me to stay short, hit something in the gap, and that he believed in me, and that if he was betting, he was going to bet on me. So it’s a couple times now this year he’s stopped me to let me know that he believes in me, and that means a lot, coming especially from your head coach. So it’s kind of gives you an extra confidence boost in the box.”Stringing together multi-hit games“I think I’ve done a better job of getting good swings off. I’m not in between as much. When I’ve struggled this year, that’s been the case a lot. Swinging at bad pitches and taking good ones. So, when I’m getting good pitches, I’m getting swings off right now. That’s a credit to our coaching staff. We’ve worked a lot on that with Coach Jesse Wierzbicki, Coach Brandon Martorano, and Coach Scott Jackson.”Caden GlauberOn being in high-leverage situations early in the season…“Those situations (from earlier in season) definitely helped me out. Been in them before, and I think everyone on our team performs their best in high-leverage situations. So we had a great team win today, and with the heart rate, you have to stay the same throughout the whole time, can’t get too high, I can’t get too low.”On Gavin Gallaher…“Watching (Gavin Gallaher on TV the last two years), it’s incredible what he’s done in past regionals. He’s doing it right now in front of my eyes so it’s insane to see it in person rather than seeing it on TV.”You talked about watching that LSU game in ’24 with a weight on your chest….“It’s definitely crazy. I had the biggest weight in my chest watching that game, but today it’s almost like the crowd and the momentum and the team that we have just take it off you. You know that they’re going to compete for you, compete behind you, and just get the job done with you.”Follow us @TarHeelsWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of North Carolina Tar Heels news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Tar Heels Wire: UNC Baseball: Players discuss regional win over ECU

French Open: Iga Świątek upset in straight sets by Maria Kostyuk, latest high seed to lose at 2026 tournament
The stunning upsets at the 2026 French Open continued on Sunday with No. 3 seed Iga Świątek losing to No. 15 Maria Kostyuk in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.Świątek, a four-time French Open champion, suffered her earliest defeat at Roland Garros since 2019, in what was then only her second major tournament. She lost in the round of 16 before returning to win her first Grand Slam title in Paris the following year.Adding to the indignity, Świątek lost on her 25th birthday. Ranked No. 3 in the world coming into the French Open, she has yet to win a tournament this year. Up next, Świątek will attempt to defend her Wimbledon title in late June. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentKostyuk, 23, has not lost on a clay surface this season, winning the Madrid Open and Rouen Open earlier this year. However, she was 0-3 versus Świątek in her career, not even winning a set, including a defeat during the 2021 French Open. "I'm still in shock to beat such an unbelievable player who won four times here," Kostyuk said after the match, via the BBC. “I woke up this morning and I just thought about what an unbelievable day I have to live today to play on Chatrier against Iga."Kostyuk was in control throughout the match, asserting herself with powerful serves and returns. Świątek didn’t help herself by losing her serves and consistently returning wide with her forehand during the first set. Świątek’s serving difficulties continued in the second set as Kostyuk frequently won volleys with clean returns and defended the net particularly well to catch the four-time champion out of position. Kostyuk won the next six games after Świątek took the first.Kostyuk’s confidence grew as it became more apparent that Swiatek wasn’t at her best. At one point during a set break, she showed how relaxed she was by dancing to the music being played over the PA system at the venue. Swiatek is the latest top 10 seed in the men’s and women’s draw to be eliminated from this year’s French Open before the quarterfinals. On the women’s side, No. 5 Jessica Pegula was upset in the first round and No. 2 Elena Rybakina suffered a second-round defeat That was followed by No. 4 Coco Gauff and No. 6 Amanda Anisimova losing in the third round. In the men’s draw, No. 6 Danlil Medvedev and No. 9 Alexander Bublik were eliminated in the first round and No. 5 Ben Shelton took an upset loss in the second. The third round saw the stunning defeats of No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 3 Novak Djokovic and No. 8 Alex de Minaur in what’s been a very surprising 2026 French Open.

Paige Bueckers gives priceless reaction to $65,000 debut jersey sale
Photo by Adam Davis/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesPaige Bueckers’ WNBA debut jersey has become another sign of her growing influence, selling for $65,000 and setting a new league memorabilia record. That figure doubled the previous high, which was set by A’ja Wilson’s 2025 Finals Game 1 and Game 2 jersey, sold for $32,150.Bueckers has already lived up to the hype as the Dallas Wings’ No. 1 pick, averaging 19.4 points and 5.1 assists early this season. But it is not just her skills drawing attention, her personality is making headlines too.Paige Bueckers jokes she would not pay $10 for her own jerseyPhoto by Sam Hodde/Getty ImagesSpeaking to Melissa Triebwasser, Bueckers called the $65,000 price “insane”, but her first thought was not about herself. Instead, she focused on what it meant for women’s basketball. She stated: “That’s insane to me. It’s crazy, that much money is insane to me. And I’m just very grateful and feeling very blessed and fortunate that people are that invested in women’s sports. I mean, people have been supporting, you can see just the rise in popularity, the growth in respect.“And it just means so much because I was just a little kid growing up watching the Minnesota Lynx, and I didn’t get to watch them on national television.“If I wanted to go see them play, I would have to go to a game. Not everybody that is fortunate has that ability to do that. So just to be a part of the rise right now, we’re just extremely grateful for it.”Bueckers later added: “Like I talked about before, I think records are meant to be broken. And it’s an honor to be the first to do something because that means so many people after you are gonna do it, and somebody after you is gonna break that record. So just to be a part of that experience means a lot. And I can’t even imagine, I wouldn’t even pay $10 for my own jerseys.”That reaction is part of what makes her so popular. Bueckers is productive, marketable, and still able to make a historic moment feel down-to-earth.The jersey price says plenty about her appeal, but her response showed she is keeping it in perspective.Read more:Why Caitlin Clark felt she was ‘thrown into fire’ after being picked No. 1 in the 2024 WNBA DraftAngel Reese’s unimpressed midgame look sparks strong WNBA fan reactionsCaitlin Clark’s postgame decision could come with a hefty WNBA punishment

College pipeline rankings: Which schools produce the most Ravens players?
The Ravens have built one of the NFL's deepest rosters by drafting and signing talent from some of the country's most productive college football programs, and their current roster reflects several strong pipelines.Clemson and Penn State lead the way with five players apiece currently on the 90-man roster. Clemson is represented by Adam Randall, Trenton Simpson, John Simpson, Nate Wiggins, and newly signed defensive back K'Von Wallace. Penn State also has five players on Baltimore's roster, with Nick Dawkins, Vega Ioane, Dominic DeLuca, Amani Oruwariye, and Adisa Isaac giving the Ravens another strong connection to a Big Ten power.Georgia is next with four players: John Jenkins, Nick Moore, Roquan Smith, and Malaki Starks. Alabama has three players on the roster in Josh Cuevas, Marlon Humphrey, and Derrick Henry, while Notre Dame also has three with Kyle Hamilton, Durham Smythe, and Ronnie Stanley. Ole Miss has three players as well: Diego Pounds, Dayton Wade, and Tavius Robinson.Several programs have two players on Baltimore's roster. Cal Berkeley is represented by Jaylinn Hawkins and Teddye Buchanan. Colorado has Chidobe Awuzie and LaJohntay Wester, while UConn has Joe Fagnano and Travis Jones. Iowa has Aaron Graves, Jay Higgins IV, and Marshall has Rasheen Ali and Mike Green.Maryland has two players in Corey Bullock and Cortez Braham Jr., while Michigan has Rayshaun Benny and Cornelius Johnson. Michigan State is represented by Ryan Eckley and Elijah Tau-Tolliver, while North Carolina is represented by Kaimon Rucker and DeVontez Walker. Oklahoma has Mark Andrews and Luke Elzinga, and USC has Andrew Vorhees and Ja'Kobi Lane. The current roster construction shows how much the organization and GM Eric DeCosta value proven production from the traditional blue-blood programs, while also finding contributors from schools outside the traditional NFL factories. Clemson and Penn State sit atop the current pipeline rankings, but Georgia, Alabama, and Notre Dame continue to provide the Ravens with high-end talent at premium positions. For an organization built around physicality, versatility, and elite athleticism, those college pipelines matter most. They help explain where the Ravens are finding depth, athleticism, and long-term upside as they continue forming the roster around Lamar Jackson and one of the league's most complete teams. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Ravens roster has strong pipeline from Clemson and Penn State

Thoughts on a 7-6 Rangers win
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - MAY 30: Brandon Nimmo #24 of the Texas Rangers reacts after slideing across home plate to score the winning run against the Kansas City Royals during the ninth inning at Globe Life Field on May 30, 2026 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by Ron Jenkins/Getty Images) | Getty Images Rangers 7, Royals 6What a weird game.Kumar Rocker went six shutout innings despite walking more batters (3) than he struck out (2). Rocker wasn’t missing bats — he got 9 swings and misses on 85 pitches — and he gave up a good amount of hard contact. And although he’s usually a ground ball pitcher, the Royals put a bunch of balls in the air against him.But he still kept Kansas City off the board. The biggest jam he got into was in the third inning, when a single and a pair of walks resulted in a bases loaded, two out situation, but Rocker got Salvador Perez to ground out to end the inning.Rocker even ended up retiring the final nine batters he faced. He left the game with a 3-0 lead, and surely, with the Rangers’ bullpen going up against a bad Royals offense, Rocker would end up with the win.Right?Of course not. Things don’t work out that easily for the Rangers.Tyler Alexander and Jakob Junis combined to strike out the side in the seventh. That would be much more exciting news if the Royals didn’t also bat around in the seventh, with a double, four singles and another double plating four runs and turning the 3-0 lead into a 4-3 deficit.Alexander did get credit for a Hold, however, because the Rangers were still up when he left the game. This, despite retiring just one of four batters he faced. That’s kind of funny.Chris Martin exacerbated things in the eighth inning, issuing a walk to start the inning and then giving up a homer to Carter Jensen.Chris Martin is now sporting a 7.84 ERA, a 7.56 xERA and a 6.35 FIP. That makes me sad.Texas had gotten on the board in the first on a Josh Jung home run, then scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth thanks to an E5 on a fielder’s choice that resulted in runners on first and second with no one out. Alejandro Osuna bunted the runners over, but in doing so hurt his finger and ultimately had to leave the game, because of course what the Rangers really need right now is more injured hitters.Anyway, the Rangers scored two in the fourth, with offensive catalyst Nicky Lopez singling home the second of those two runs. I know y’all are fired up about Nicky Lopez. The Rangers rallied in the eighth and were in position to tie the game, as a Jake Burger double, Ezequiel Duran walk, and Danny Jansen double made it a 6-4 game with runners on second and third and one out. Justin Foscue, pinch hitting for Lopez, popped out, and then Michael Helman, for some reason, tried a two out bunt but popped it up for the third out.At this point I was all prepared to talk in the thoughts post about how this is what happens when you are relying on the likes of Justin Foscue and Michael Helman to take key at bats and drive home runs late in the game. You fall short and you end up losing and that’s the way it is.But instead I can talk about how you should never lose hope, you should never give up, you should always keep believing.Joc Pederson led off the ninth with a home run, his eighth of the season, one fewer than he had all last year. The Rangers were suddenly down just one. Josh Jung smoked a ball into the hole at shortstop that Bobby Witt Jr. made a great diving stop on. Jung, not the fleetest Ranger, seemed like he’d be a dead duck at first base. Witt rushed the throw to first, however, and it went way wide, resulting in Jung getting credit for an infield single.Brandon Nimmo then hit a chopper back up the middle. If Lucas Erceg, the Royals reliever, lets it go past him, it is probably a double play. However, Erceg tries to make a play on it, and it caroms off his glove. Nimmo beats the throw to first for an infield single. Can you feel the momentum building? Were you sensing a miraculous comeback was at hand?Or were you convinced that this was a tease, that the Rangers were just setting things up for a heartbreaking loss?Jake Burger swung at a 2-0 pitch but didn’t get good wood on the ball. It ended up working out for the best, as he flared the ball the other way, just beyond the infield into right field, for a game-tying single. That set the stage for Ezequiel Duran, who blooped a 1-1 pitch the opposite way. It fell in front of Royals right fielder Jac Caglianone. Brandon Nimmo, at third, broke home once the ball fell in, and slid in ahead of the throw.Ballgame. A walk off win.And the first ever major league win for Peyton Gray, whose scoreless ninth inning kept the Rangers in position to make the comeback.Think how made Royals fans must be about this game. The Pederson homer to get the game within one. Then two infield hits, followed by a flare and a bloop, and your team lost. Its just the second time this season that a reliever has gotten walked off while facing at least five batters and retiring none of them. The other one was Jordan Romano against the Angels last month. And it is only the second time in Rangers history that the Rangers have walked it off in such a scenario. The only other time was in 2008, when Fernando Rodney faced six Rangers, retired nine of them, and was walked off on a Chris Davis bases loaded single.Joc Pederson’s homer was 108.0 mph. Brandon Nimmo had a 104.6 mph groundout, a 104.1 mph fly out and a 102.8 mph single. Josh Jung had a 102.2 mph homer and a 101.1 mph single. Jake Burger had a 101.9 mph single.Kumar Rocker’s fastball topped out at 94.9 mph, averaging 93.4 mph. Tyler Alexander touched 92.7 mph with his fastball. Jakob Junis hit 94.9 mph with his sinker. Chris Martin’s fastball reached 94.7 mph. Peyton Gray maxed out at 93.6 mph with his fastball. Let’s go sweeping on Sunday.

Beau Brieske Gives Tigers Bullpen Needed Boost
Beau Brieske is back in Detroit, and the timing could not be clearer for a Tigers bullpen that has been scrambling for outs. The Tigers activated Brieske from the 60-day injured list on May 29, adding a needed right-hander while late-inning roles remain unsettled and injuries keep cutting into the pitching staff.Detroit has been operating with very little margin in relief for weeks. A.J. Hinch said on May 1 that the bullpen had been leaned on quite a bit, and that strain kept building as short starts and health issues pushed more innings onto relievers. Why Brieske matters right nowThis is not just another arm on the roster. Brieske gives Hinch another reliever who can cover meaningful outs in the middle or late innings, which matters when the Tigers bullpen has been forced to squeeze too many high-stress spots out of the same small group. The bullpen took another hit when Brant Hurter went on the injured list May 25 with lumbar spine inflammation. Four days later, Hurter was transferred to the 60-day injured list in the move that created 40-man space for Brieske. The bigger problem came at the back end. Kenley Jansen went on the 15-day injured list May 28 with pelvic inflammation, leaving Kyle Finnegan and Will Vest as the recent closing alternatives, with both coming off uneven results.Late innings have become a matchup problemVest’s outing against the Angels showed how thin the margin has become. He entered with a 6-4 lead on May 26 and gave up a grand slam in a five-run eighth inning, a breakdown that forced the Tigers to rethink how they bridge games without Jansen.Brieske’s return gives Detroit a better chance to avoid those forced matchups. Instead of asking Finnegan or Vest to absorb every tense pocket late, Hinch can spread leverage across another experienced right-hander and keep one bad inning from bleeding into the next two games. That flexibility matters almost as much as the innings themselves. If Brieske handles seventh-inning traffic or clean eighths, the Tigers bullpen can reserve Finnegan and Vest for narrower assignments instead of exposing them every night in the same spots.Detroit needs stable outs, not just another nameBrieske also returns with trust already built inside this staff. He played a key role in Detroit’s 2024 late-season push and worked in several important postseason spots, which adds real context to how the Tigers can use him now.The Tigers do not need Brieske to solve the entire bullpen by himself. They need him to take real innings, cut down on overexposure for the rest of the relief group, and give Hinch one more matchup option when the game starts tilting in the sixth or seventh. The next challenge is simple to track. Detroit now has to decide whether Brieske goes straight into leverage work or opens in a lower-stress role, and that deployment will shape how often Finnegan and Vest are asked to protect narrow leads over the next series.

Remember when Donald Trump tried to call Pete Buttigieg dumb? It backfired immediately.
Donald Trump ranted about wiring allegedly installed by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in an attempt to make Buttigieg sound dumb, but instead, everyone pointed out how ignorant Trump’s accusations were. “There’s Pete Buttigieg, he spent billions of dollars on fixing the air traffic control,” Trump said during comments to Republican senators at the newly paved-over White House Rose Garden yesterday. Related Lauren Boebert brags about giving birth in a truck in repulsive anti-gay rant about Pete Buttigieg “They used copper wire going into glass wire. Any union electrician here or any non-union electrician would say you can’t hook copper into glass. It doesn’t work. They spent billions of dollars, they turned on the system, and it was stone cold blank.” It seems that Trump was referring to how some buildings use both copper and fiber optic wiring to handle internet connections, a widespread practice that has been made trivial by converters. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Copper wiring has caused problems for air traffic controllers recently. A piece of burnt-out copper wire caused a blackout at the Newark Airport earlier this year, for example, which is why plans to modernize the equipment that controllers use involve replacing that wiring—often installed in the 1970s and 1980s—with fiber optic lines. However, the copper wiring was installed well before Buttigieg was at the Department of Transportation, and the issue is not that it has to interface with fiber optic lines. The issue is that the copper wiring is aging poorly and supports limited bandwidth. On X, people mocked Trump for his claim that copper and fiber optic lines can’t interface. the key fact about Donald Trump is that in addition to being infinitely self-absorbed and having no morals whatsoever, he is an almost impossibly stupid man https://t.co/cqv1Sk1szk— Will Stancil (@whstancil) October 21, 2025 Union av tech here,You can absolutely convert a fiber optic (glass) wire and signal into a copper one using one of these handy converter boxes. https://t.co/h5OPug3t5g pic.twitter.com/GroXLciMcG— Matt Kimball (@Matt_J_Kimball) October 21, 2025 This is patently absurd. But is he addicted enough to risk everything for another shot at the elusive Triple Crown? His former McLaren teammate Jenson Button certainly thinks so.As highlighted by F1 commentator @Nachez98 in a recent X post, Button was recently asked about Alonso’s chances of completing motorsport’s ultimate holy trinity: winning the Monaco Grand Prix, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the Indianapolis 500.Alonso Has The Best Chance in the WorldCurrently, Graham Hill is the only driver in the entire history of motorsport to actually pull it off. But according to Button, Alonso is the only modern driver capable of joining that exclusive club.“Fernando is probably the one with the best chance of completing the Triple Crown, having won Monaco and Le Mans, and coming close in Indianapolis, where he led the race,” Button explained. “If he wants to try again, he undoubtedly has a shot at it.”And honestly? Button isn’t wrong. Alonso took the IndyCar world completely by storm during his rookie attempt back in 2017, qualifying on the second row and leading 27 laps before his Honda engine tragically exploded. If that engine held on, we might not even be having this conversation. The Danger and The DakarBut here is where reality hits the wall. Does Alonso even want to go back to the Brickyard? The short answer seems to be no. As Nachez pointed out, Alonso explicitly shut down the idea of an Indy return back in May 2023, citing the massive amount of dedicated preparation required and the extreme, life-threatening danger of oval racing. When you are pushing 45 years old and already have two F1 World Championships and two Le Mans trophies on your mantle, do you really need to risk it all going 230 mph an inch away from a concrete wall?May 21, 2026; Montreal, Quebec, CANADA; Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso (14) arrives to the paddock area at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Mandatory Credit: David Kirouac-Imagn ImagesInstead, Alonso has completely shifted his non-F1 focus to the dirt. He recently stated that the only external challenge that truly excites him now is winning the grueling Dakar Rally. While it’s a massive shame for motorsport fans who desperately want to see him complete the Triple Crown, it completely makes sense. Let’s just hope his new Aston Martin F1 contract keeps him entertained enough in the meantime.

Phillies Mike Trout trade rumors get big update from MLB insider
Phillies Mike Trout trade rumors get big update from MLB insider originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Philadelphia Phillies are very likely to be trade deadline buyers this season, and if there is one thing this team needs more than anything else, it would be a good right-handed hitter. While there will be attention on Byron Buxton and plenty of other stars, Los Angeles Angels future Hall of Famer Mike Trout is someone who will be at the center of Phillies' fans' attention in the trade market this year.MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today shared a big update on the Phillies' chances to acquire Trout. Unfortunately for Phillies fans, this is not a good update.Phillies Mike Trout trade rumors take big hit with new update"They will be on the lookout for a right-handed hitter at the trade deadline, but no, Mike Trout will not be coming to Philadelphia," Nightengale writes. "He still is owed $148.46 million after this season, and has a full no-trade clause."As good as Trout has been in his MLB career, and how well he's playing this season with a .910 OPS, an MLB-leading 56 walks, 14 homers, and an AL-leading 45 runs scored to go with 2.4 bWAR, the odds of a trade are slim to none.Trout has full control over whether he's traded or not with his no-trade clause. Even if the Phillies and Angels are in agreement on a deal, Trout could shut down anything with this no-trade clause.MORE: Phillies’ Aidan Miller finally beginning baseball activities amid back injuryHe's shown no indication that he wants to leave the Angels, and even though Phillies fans would surely love to see their team acquire Trout, this rumor from Nightengale all but shuts down the possibility of Trout coming to Philadelphia. It's not impossible, as Trout, the Angels, and the Phillies could still change their minds by the August 3 trade deadline. But, as things stand now, the Phillies are not likely to land Trout in a trade despite all of the rumors over the last few years.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxDodgers still have a Roki Sasaki problemChase Burns becomes first Reds pitcher with elite stat line since 1922Yankees’ Aaron Judge on track to become first player in MLB history with five 50+ homer seasons

Recruiting Roundup: Huskies Host Their First Batch Of Official Visits
Happy Sunday Husky fans. The Huskies saw their first wave of official visitors head to campus this weekend, and while the list got trimmed down a little for who was on campus it is still an important visit weekend. There were 3 un-committed players who made their way onto campus and the Huskies are doing well with all three prospects. In addition to the 3 un-committed players the Huskies also had 4 committed players on campus to help the staff recruit.4 star wide receiver Dontay Tyson from Peoria HS, AZ headed to Montlake for an official visit. The Huskies have been after Tyson for a while and he recently narrowed his recruitment down to UW, and Texas A&M. Listed at around 6’1” and 190 pounds Tyson has a college frame currently. When you watch his film you can see that he is physically advanced and looks like the best player on the field when he’s playing. He can play inside or outside and he recently clocked a 10.77 100 meter time this spring. It sounds like the Huskies are doing very well this weekend with him and I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw a decision come soon from Tyson and his official visit to A&M cancelled. Last season he accounted for 448 yards receiving on 37 catches and 7 touchdowns in 7 games.View Link4 star (composite ranking) cornerback Kamil Loud from Bishop Gorman HS, NV was on campus this weekend for his official visit. The Huskies have been recruiting Loud for several months, but UW isn’t the only school who has been after him with schools like Cal, Utah, and Miami also after him. Listed at around 6’1” and 170 pounds Loud has a good frame to play outside or at nickel in college. Rated as the 60th best cornerback in the country by 247sports, Loud reminds me of current Husky Jeron Jones (very active around the ball). The Huskies would love to add a couple of cornerbacks to their 2027 class and Loud is a prospect who has been rising on recruiting boards over the last several months. In 9 games last season Loud had 18 tackles and 3 PD’s on a loaded Bishop Gorman team. I like where the Huskies stand with Loud and when cornerback coach John Richardson hones in on a prospect he usually lands his top targets.Full JR season highlights. ALL GLORY TO GOD!!! @Benwik21@BishopGormanFB@CoachBriscoeWR@ActivatedSP@GusMcNair009@adamgorney @GregBiggins2 @BlairAngulohttps://t.co/Z2kD2UIhn3pic.twitter.com/nRR9UrXCxF— Kamil Loud (@kamloudd) December 29, 2025Last but not least among the un-committed prospects on campus was 3 star edge Chaz Gray from St Joseph Regional HS, NJ. Gray, who is rated as the 33st best edge in the country by 247sports, was recently offered by the Huskies and getting him on campus so quickly was a big coup for the Huskies. It’s no secret that coach Fisch and his staff have cast a wide net in their recruitment strategy and Gray is a perfect example of how that strategy may pay off. Listed at 6’4” and around 250 pound Gray has a great frame and a huge wingspan which helps him disengage blockers and create havoc in the backfield. The Huskies don’t currently have any commits from an “edge” recruit yet, but if they can land Gray they will have addressed one of the bigger needs in the class fairly early. I suspect the Huskies are doing pretty well with him and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were able to land him after an official visit (his first time to Seattle).Regular season film https://t.co/tYdUaNslS5— Chaz Gray (@chazgray0) November 14, 2025The committed prospects who made their way to Montlake included: 4 star quarterback Blake Roskopf who was likely be in the ear of Tyson all weekend. 4 star running back Jeremy Adeyanju will also be campus for an official visit as will Rokopf’s teammate 4 star wide receiver Zerek Sidney. The trio of Roskopf, Adeyanju, and Sidney are all from Arizona and that was likely a strategic decision from the staff (as well as hosting Tyson who is from Arizona). The Huskies also had 3 star linebacker Titus Osterman on campus to help the rest of the commitments acting as recruiters for the un-committed players.

This scary ‘not done’ message from Spurs centerpiece sends warning to Knicks before NBA finals clash
This scary ‘not done’ message from Spurs centerpiece sends warning to Knicks before NBA finals clash originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The San Antonio Spurs have booked their place in the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014 after edging past the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 in the Game 7. With the win on Saturday, the Spurs clinched the Western Conference Finals 4-3 in the best-of-seven series and will now open the NBA Finals on Wednesday in San Antonio against the New York Knicks.Victor Wembanyama once again stood at the center of the Spurs’ breakthrough postseason run. He was named Western Conference Finals MVP and also secured NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. However, he downplayed individual recognition, focusing instead on the team’s unfinished business.“Though we’re still hungry for one more, this feeling is, I can’t explain it, it’s so powerful,” Wembanyama said. “We want four more. We’re not done. Go Spurs go.”Despite missing out on the NBA MVP award, Wembanyama’s impact throughout the season and playoffs has fueled increasing claims that he may already be the best player in the league. More importantly for the Spurs, his leadership has helped drive one of the most dramatic turnarounds in recent NBA memory. The Spurs finished 22-60 in both 2023 and 2024 before improving to 34-48 in 2025. Just a year later, they are now competing for a championship, completing a rapid ascent from rebuilding side to NBA Finals contender. The Thunder, who went 71-14 against all other opponents across the regular season and playoffs, struggled heavily against the Spurs, going just 4-8. That made them the first team in NBA history to suffer eight or more losses to a single opponent in a season while also recording 70-plus wins against everyone else. The Spurs’ postseason success has also been notable for its less experienced and youth players. At a weighted average age of 25 years and 20 days, this team ranks as the second-youngest squad to reach the NBA Finals since minutes tracking began in 1951-52.As for young head coach Mitch Johnson, he has also made history, becoming just the third coach in the last 50 years to win a conference or NBA Finals Game 7 at age 40 or younger. He now joins elite company alongside Billy Cunningham of the 1982 Philadelphia 76ers and Tyronn Lue of the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers.More NBA news:Mavericks lose their clear favorite to replace Jason Kidd after aggressive rival moveKevin Durant just received the ultimate compliment from college basketball's biggest starVictor Wembanyama’s finals celebration goes viral as teammate claps back at critics with ‘great’ admissionVictor Wembanyama reveals secret ‘addiction’ to this thing after Game 7 heroicsVictor Wembanyama's emotional moment with father says everything after Spurs reach NBA Finals

IPL 2026 Final: Why Josh Hazlewood's perfect record in T20 could boost RCB against GT
As Royal Challengers Bengaluru prepare to face Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final, they will draw confidence from a player who has made a habit of delivering on the biggest stage, Josh Hazlewood. The defending champions are aiming to win back-to-back IPL titles, a feat achieved only by Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Standing in their way is a formidable Gujarat Titans side led by Shubman Gill, but RCB will take comfort from the presence of Hazlewood, whose record in T20 finals is nothing short of remarkable. The man who never lost FinalsHazlewood enters the IPL 2026 final with a perfect record in T20 title deciders. The Australian pacer has played five major T20 tournament finals across international and franchise cricket and has emerged victorious in all five. Even more impressively, he has never gone wicketless in a T20 final.Across those five title clashes, Hazlewood has claimed 10 wickets at an average of 13.9 and an economy rate of 7.1, consistently proving his ability to thrive under pressure. Hazlewood's first major T20 final success came in the IPL 2021 final while representing Chennai Super Kings.Facing Kolkata Knight Riders, the Australian quick returned figures of 2/29 from four overs, removing Sunil Narine and Nitish Rana at crucial moments. His disciplined spell helped CSK restrict KKR's chase and secure a 27-run victory. It was the first IPL trophy of Hazlewood's career and the beginning of a remarkable finals streak.Perhaps the finest final performance of Hazlewood's career came during the 2021 T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. On a batting-friendly Dubai surface, Hazlewood produced a masterclass in fast bowling, finishing with figures of 3/16 in four overs. He dismissed Glenn Phillips and, most importantly, Kane Williamson, who had looked set to take the game away from Australia with a blistering 85. Australia eventually chased down the target to lift their maiden T20 World Cup title, with Hazlewood playing a central role in the victory.Delivering RCB's Historic TitleFour years later, Hazlewood once again showcased his ability to perform when the stakes were highest. In the IPL 2025 final against Punjab Kings, the Australian speedster picked up two wickets and was entrusted with defending 29 runs in the final over of the match. Despite facing a dangerous Shashank Singh at the crease, Hazlewood held his nerve and closed out the game, helping RCB secure their maiden IPL title after an 18-year wait.Hazlewood's finals success extends beyond the IPL and international cricket. The pacer was also part of title-winning campaigns with the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. A Mixed IPL 2026 CampaignDespite his outstanding finals record, Hazlewood's IPL 2026 season has not been entirely straightforward. The right-arm pacer has claimed 13 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 35.15 and an economy rate of 9.62. While those numbers are below his usual standards, they do not fully reflect his impact.

Arsenal set aside loss to PSG with bus parade celebrating Premier League crown
Arsenal fans celebrated the club's first Premier League title in 22 years (Toby Shepheard)Tens of thousands of Arsenal fans put aside their pain at missing out on European glory as the club on Sunday celebrated its first Premier League title since 2004 with a parade in London.Reams of Gunners supporters lined streets in the north of Britain's capital to watch their heroes show off the Premier League trophy from the upper deck of an open-top bus.Decked out in the club's famous red-and-white colours, the fans chanted, cheered, waved flags and set off flares as they revelled in being champions of England for the first time in 22 years. Some climbed trees, roofs and traffic lights in the hope of catching a glimpse of Mikel Arteta's side. The good-natured celebrations were in stark contrast to scenes of violence witnessed in France overnight where revelry following Paris St Germain's Champions League win over Arsenal was marred by unrest.Hundreds of people were arrested across France following clashes with police, burglary, and vandalism."I've waited a long time (for this)," 67-year-old Steven Turner, wearing a red Arsenal hat and attending the parade with his daughter, told AFP."I was a little bit disappointed and sad yesterday. But they played very well. I'm still very happy to be here -- very proud of the team," he added.Arsenal were confirmed Premier League champions on 19 May when second-placed Manchester City drew at Bournemouth. They had been hoping for a double celebration by following up the league success with a first Champions League trophy in the club's 140-year history. But the English giants suffered heartbreak in Budapest on Saturday by losing on penalties to PSG as the French club were crowned European champions for the second season running.Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes missed penalties in the shoot-out after the match finished 1-1 after extra time.Kai Havertz had fired Arsenal into an early lead before Ousmane Dembele equalised from the spot for the French side in the second half.Arsenal's Premier League title came after the club finished runners-up in the league for the previous three seasons.Nick Randall, who works in retail, was only nine years old when Arsenal last won England's top flight.- 'I love this team' -He drove from Manchester, some 200 miles (320 kilometres) away, with his partner and baby for Sunday's party."Overwhelmed", was how he described his feelings. "We haven't had a team like this for 15 years. I felt fine yesterday, a bit sad but we won the Premier league still," he told AFP.Williams Ayodeji, who grew up in Nigeria, travelled from the Scottish capital Edinburgh for the parade."I am so happy. It's been 22 years. I was a baby last time. I love this team. They are part of my life," he told AFP.The 36-year-old Uber driver said winning the Premier League was "a good start" that could hopefully propel Arsenal to Champions League glory next season.Sarah Ball, 47, said she shed a tear when Arsenal lost in Budapest but felt "very proud" of her team."It would have been nice to have a double but we won the Premier league, so happy with that," she told AFP.The parade started shortly after 2:00 pm (1300 GMT) and was due to take two hours to complete a nine-kilometre (5.6-mile) route close to the club's Emirates stadium in the area of Islington.Four buses formed part of the celebration, including one carrying Arsenal Women, who won the inaugural Women's Champions Cup in February.ctx-pdh/dmc

Who fills Kyle Busch’s seat at RCR is 'decision that will be made over time'
The hearts of folks in and around NASCAR are still heavy this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway as the sport prepares for another Cup Series race following the shocking death of Kyle Busch. In Sunday’s Cracker Barrel 400, Austin Hill will once again hop into the driver’s seat of Busch’s car, which has since been renumbered from No. 8 to No. 33.With that, a question in the back of the minds of many remains: Who will be the long-term replacement for Busch for Richard Childress Racing? Will it be Hill?Speaking to a gaggle of reporters on Saturday, May 30 in Nashville, Austin Dillon – the driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet for RCR and the grandson of team owner Richard Childress – was non-committal on what the future held for the car, but expressed confidence in Hill."Look, I think that’s a decision that will be made over time," Dillon said. "But I know one thing – I’m excited for Austin Hill because I think he’s a dog. I’m ready to go to war with him and go out there, as my teammate, and battle with him. If there’s any questions about that, he’s qualified."Busch died at the age of 41 on May 21 due to what his family called complications from severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. Busch’s death certificate revealed that been battling bacterial pneumonia for "days to weeks" before he died. The death certificate also noted that he has since been cremated in Mooresville, North Carolina. No details for a funeral or memorial service have been made public. The sudden death of Busch shook NASCAR in a way that it perhaps hasn’t experienced since Dale Earnhardt died in a crash at the 2001 Daytona 500. Earnhardt, the winner of seven Cup Series championships and one of the most iconic drivers the sport has ever had, also drove for RCR.Dillon – who now pilots the No. 3 that Earnhardt made famous – was just 10 years old when the Intimidator died. Now 25 years later, he’s watching his grandfather’s racing team go through similar emotions all over again."The longer I do this, the more I learn what the family aspect of RCR is," Dillon said Saturday in first public comments since Busch’s death. "It was obviously one of the toughest weeks of RCR’s history. Being a part of that from my side, for the first time, really being able to understand what everybody’s going through, it was hard, and it’s going to be hard. But the people that we have at RCR are the ones that I would want to go through this with."Asked how his grandfather is dealing with the loss of Busch, Dillon said: "Obviously, it’s been very hard for him. But he’s a very resilient person, as everyone knows, and he’s got that cowboy brand that he likes to show everybody – but he’s also got a soft side. I think it’s been pretty wearing on him."The 80-year-old Childress has not spoken publicly since Busch’s death, but is expected to do so next weekend at Michigan ahead of the FireKeepers Casino 400.Busch was in his fourth season driving for RCR after spending the previous 15 years of his career with Joe Gibbs Racing. While he won the Truck Series race at Dover just six days before his death, Busch hadn’t taken the checkered flag in a Cup Series race since June 4, 2023 at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois.Despite the winless streak at the Cup level, Busch was still one of NASCAR’s premier talents, capable of winning races and attracting top-level sponsors. The two-time Cup Series champion was marketable and had prime years remaining on the track. No driver had more combined victories across NASCAR’s top three national touring series than Busch’s 234. All of those reasons are why it was likely that RCR would have tried to work with Busch on a contract extension this season as his deal was expiring. And now – just as it did 25 years ago – RCR has to replace one of the most recognizable and supremely talented drivers the sport has ever seen."Kyle Busch, his character, would’ve wanted all of us to do what we could to get back to victory lane and to work as hard as possible," Dillon said. "I knew what he cared about and that was being here on Sunday, racing as hard as he could for his guys, for himself, for his family, to try and create history in this sport. We have a great opportunity to do that here at RCR, to go back out there and make him proud."For now, Hill will continue to pilot the car previously driven by Busch. Last weekend at Charlotte in the Coca-Cola 600, he finished 27th, a lap down. The 32-year-old from Winston, Georgia, has raced part-time in the Cup Series since 2022, making 18 starts. Hill's best finish at the top level of NASCAR came last year in the Chicago Street Course race, where he placed ninth.Hill does have an accomplished record in the second-tier O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series. In the O’Reilly Series, he’s finished in the top six in points in each of the last four seasons and has 15 wins. He also has eight victories in the Truck Series. The only other in-house option that RCR has in its stable is Jesse Love, who competes full-time for the team in the O’Reilly Series. The 21-year-old from California has seven Cup Series starts in his career, but has never finished better than 24th. But last year in the O’Reilly Series, he won two races and had seven other top-five finishes to claim the championship in the second-tier competition. Love placed second in the O’Reilly race in Charlotte last weekend, losing to Ross Chastain in a rain-shortened race. For now, it seems that RCR and Dillon are throwing their support behind Hill in the No. 33 car in the Cup Series."Austin Hill is a grizzly bear, man. You’ve seen what he’s been able to do in the (O’Reilly) Series. … He doesn’t take any crap out there on the track. In this series, when you’re coming into something like he is right now, you’ve got to be that guy," Dillon said. "I’m excited to work with him, excited to see his development and we’re going to do what we can to make everybody proud. We owe it to the No. 8 team – now the No. 33 team – those guys have been through a lot this year."This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Austin Dillon confident in Austin Hill as he drives Kyle Busch’s car

Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes reopening for Thunder after Game 7 loss to Spurs?
Still, Gilgeous-Alexander referenced the reality that Presti isn’t one to stand still. He analyzes. He innovates. He corrects. If he learned anything from the legendary Gregg Popovich and famed Spurs executive R.C. Buford during his early years with the Spurs that led to his Thunder rise, it was that. League sources have long maintained that Oklahoma City would not take part in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes that will dominate the summertime conversation, but this sort of stunning finish is enough to re-spark that conversation. Nothing should be off the table when the end goal wasn’t reached.New York TimesThis article originally appeared on Hoops Hype: Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes reopening for Thunder after Game 7 loss to Spurs?

Photo by Matthew Stockman/Getty ImagesFrances Tiafoe had to fight through another draining Roland Garros test, beating Jaime Faria 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32.The American fell two sets behind, but his response became emphatic, with cleaner aggression and stronger physical presence carrying him through the final three sets. That comeback still carried a sharp edge, because Tiafoe and Faria exchanged words before the American explained why he brought Ryan Garcia into the conversation.Frances Tiafoe opens up on Ryan Garcia mention during Jaime Faria altercationPhoto by Steve Marcus/Getty ImagesThe flashpoint came when Tiafoe challenged Faria during the match, saying: “Why don’t you quit trying to act like you’re tough? You’re not hard, bro, just play.”The chair umpire stepped in as the argument continued, and the 28-year-old later admitted Faria’s chirping affected the mood of an already tense match.“I felt like I needed that too because I’m up at the time, but I’m still a little nervous,” Tiafoe said in the on-court interview afterwards. The world No. 22 felt Faria was acting like a fighter in a tennis match, rather than simply playing the next point, and compared him to WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia. He explained: “He thought he was Ryan Garcia or something. So I just had to definitely let him know like, ‘Chill out, bro, just play and just enjoy being in Paris.’ So yeah, I mean, it was a little back and forth, nothing serious, but it definitely wasn’t my favourite.”The American insisted it was nothing serious, but it still gave his comeback a different edge. After two lost sets, Tiafoe needed a spark. Faria’s words provided one, and the American used it to take control in Paris.Read more:History shattered: Joao Fonseca pulls off a 35-year miracle over Novak DjokovicAndy Roddick issues stern take on Fonseca vs Djokovic — Is tennis losing its edge?Greg Rusedski ‘shocked’ by how Roland Garros organisers handled Jannik Sinner’s schedule

Donald Trump gives tour of UFC White House event arena
With UFC Freedom 250 right around the corner, President Donald Trump is giving us a sneak peak at the arena being constructed for the event.Despite the UFC having done a ton of events over the years, this event will be unprecedented, as it will take place outdoors on the South Lawn of the White House.Recently, Trump gave us our first look at the setup for the UFC event, which will be held on Sunday, June 14, which just so happens to be Trump’s birthday.“You’ll never see it again. It’s never happened before,” Trump said.“The best fighters in the world are all coming,” Trump added. “They all say, ‘We want to fight at the White House!’ Dana [White] is an amazing man. This would be the highest rated event, maybe one of them, ever in sports.”Trump noted that the event will hold 4,000 spectators, and then close to 100,000 people can watch the event for free on eight big screens in the park behind the event.“It’s the hardest ticket (to get),” Trump said. “Everybody wants (a ticket). I’m going to make more enemies.”“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Trump added. “It’s going to be something that’s going to be very exciting.”Full UFC Freedom 250 fight cardApr 12, 2024; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; UFC fighter Justin Gaethje during ceremonial weigh ins for UFC 300 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn ImagesNot everyone is exactly thrilled with the idea of this UFC event.Even UFC commentator Joe Rogan has multiple issues with it.“The White House thing is odd. I don’t like it,” he said. “I don’t like the idea of fighting outside at all. It’s June and it’s D.C. and we looked it up, the last time, like last year, same day, was 100 degrees. That’s hot as f***. You add the lights. How about dehydration.”“The bugs are a big one,” Rogan added. “How are they going to f do anything about the bugs because I know that Dana was talking about that recently, they were talking about maybe using fans.”Despite Rogan’s very valid concerns, it’s full speed ahead for the UFC and the White House with just two weeks to go before the event.

Rugby players raise money for injured team mates
Chosen Hill RFC in Gloucestershire sent nearly 30 players to the Vets Day tournament at Twickenham on Saturday [Niki Savory/Chosen Hill RFC]A team of rugby veterans have raised £15,000 for a charity supporting players who have suffered life-changing injuries.Chosen Hill RFC in Gloucestershire sent nearly 30 players to the Vets Day tournament at Twickenham on Saturday to raise money for the RFU Injured Players Foundation (IPF).Stuart Coles, the club's chairman, said it was "absolutely amazing" to take part."Rugby is a tough old sport, and to have people recognise that going out doing something that you love could lead to potentially a life-changing situation, and giving you the support that was sadly lacking for a number of years, is testament to why how important this charity is," Coles added."Every club across the land has got examples when people got injured in the past and had bucket and sponge and were just told to get on with it," Coles said. His aim was to raise £50,000 to give back to the charity that had supported him and his family. As the second highest fundraiser, Chosen Hill RFC got to use the away team's dressing room before walking down the tunnel and stepping out onto the hallowed turf at Twickenham."That vets team grew up together, and some had hung up their rugby boots for good so for that to culminate for them in a day at Twickenham, it was really special," Coles said. The team, which featured four sets of brothers as old as 50, got through to the final, but lost out to a last minute penalty.Follow BBC Gloucestershire on Facebook, X and Instagram. Israeli forces make historic push inside Lebanon and complicate an Iran deal
Smoke rises following an Israeli airstrike in the southern port city of Tyre, Lebanon, Sunday, May 31, 2026. (AP Photo)2026-05-31T14:18:29Z TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israeli forces are making their deepest incursion inside Lebanon since they withdrew from the country over a quarter-century ago, despite a nominal U.S.-brokered ceasefire and the first direct Israel-Lebanon talks in decades. It’s a challenge in the emerging deal to extend the Iran war ceasefire as Tehran wants it to end fighting in Lebanon, too.On Sunday, Israeli forces seized a symbolic fort in southern Lebanon, Beaufort castle, perched at over 700 meters (3,000 feet) above sea level. It offers commanding views across Lebanon and into northern Israel. The site has been a military asset for close to a millennium.Israel says it is targeting the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group, which has a strong political presence in southern Lebanon and has launched thousands of missiles and drones at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon and at northern Israel. Israel has warned Lebanese civilians across the south to evacuate or risk being in the line of fire. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Saturday accused Israel of “implementing a policy of total destruction of cities and towns.” Over 3,300 people including dozens of children have been killed in Lebanon since the fighting began on March 2, two days after the Iran war started. About 1 million people have been displaced. At least 25 Israeli soldiers and a defense contractor have been killed in Lebanon or northern Israel, along with two civilians in northern Israel. Here’s what to know: Read More For nearly 1,000 years, a strategic military assetBeaufort, also called Al-Shaqif, was built as a Crusader castle around the 12th century and also has been used by Saladin’s Jerusalem army, Mamluks, Ottomans, the French mandate, the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Israeli military until 2000, when it was partially restored and opened to visitors. On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that Beaufort is “a symbol of a heroic battle for our fighters, but was also a symbol of deep division between us.”The military’s return feels like Israel is going in circles, said Orna Mizrahi, a former deputy director in the government’s National Security Council. “There’s a feeling of, ‘For what?’” she said. The word “Beaufort” summons a sense of victory for the Israeli military that captured it in 1982, but also symbolizes the high price to defend the site before it was handed over in 2000, said Mizrahi, now a senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies.Israel likely eventually will relinquish control of the fortress, she said, even as Defense Minister Israel Katz vows to make it part of Israel’s permanent security zone in southern Lebanon. The military’s presence there will not solve the issue with Hezbollah, Mizrahi said: “Yes, we are damaging them in the operations, but in parallel we need to pursue a political and diplomatic solution.” Israel sees a threat to its northern communitiesIsrael has long considered Hezbollah a threat. The Shiite Muslim armed group emerged in 1982 in response to an Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has targeted communities in northern Israel, and joined the war in Gaza in 2023 in solidarity with the Palestinians.Israel badly weakened Hezbollah during months of war. Fighting ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in late 2024 after indirect talks, and Israeli forces withdrew except from five strategic hilltops along the border. The new Lebanese government came to power with promises to disarm groups like Hezbollah, but the militants resisted. Israel meanwhile claimed that Hezbollah was rearming and rebuilding. On March 2, Hezbollah again fired at Israel, prompting Israel to invade southern Lebanon. Lately, Israel has said it is trying to keep Hezbollah from hurting its forces and civilians with a new kind of fiber-optic drone that has been widely used in the war in Ukraine.Lebanon says Israel has gone too farThe United States brokered a ceasefire that began in mid-April. Unlike the one in the Iran war, it has not held.Hundreds of thousands of people have fled southern Lebanon as Israeli forces carried out airstrikes and ground troops pushed into the country. Many people now shelter in the capital, Beirut, where hundreds have been killed, including in an intense, minutes-long bombardment in April.Israeli forces now control large areas in southern Lebanon and have demolished homes and historical sites. Israel is trying to “uproot Lebanon’s memory and erase the people’s history,” Lebanon’s prime minister, Salam, said Saturday. Hezbollah has refused to accept results of talksHistoric talks between senior officials from Israel and Lebanon began in April in Washington, the first in more than three decades between the countries that have no formal diplomatic relations. On Friday, the first direct military talks occurred in decades.Issues to work out include an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, deployment of Lebanese forces there and the disarming of Hezbollah, which has refused to give up weapons while Israeli forces remain in the country. The talks will continue this week. Hezbollah is not taking part and has said it would not accept any results. The group prefers that negotiations benefit from Iran’s leverage and sees the Lebanese government as weak, a position shared by some others in the country. Lebanon’s people have been divided over the talks, whose announcement was met with protests. Many Lebanese are angry with Hezbollah for the destruction it has caused in the country, but also wary of Israel.Lebanon’s prime minister on Saturday called the direct negotiations “currently the least costly option,” adding that they don’t mean a surrender and acknowledging they are not guaranteed to produce results.___ Chehayeb reported from Beirut and Anna reported from Lowville, New York.
