Victor Wembanyama breaks down in tears after leading Spurs to first NBA Finals since 2014
OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA - MAY 30: Victor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs celebrates with Stephon Castle #5 and De'aaron Fox #4 after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder with a score of 111 to 103 to win Game Seven of the NBA Western Conference Finals at Paycom Center on May 30, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (Photo by Joshua Gateley/Getty Images)Photo by: Joshua Gateley / Getty ImagesThe 22-year-old superstar became emotional after San Antonio’s Game 7 victory over Oklahoma City, saying he’s now just four wins away from a lifelong dream.Since entering the NBA in 2023, 7-foot-4 San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has shattered expectations. After starting his career as a number one overall draft pick, Wemby has gone on to become a two-time All-Star, a unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, and one of the most dominant forces in basketball, all before his 23rd birthday. After helping the Spurs punch their ticket to the NBA Finals on Saturday night, Wembanyama was visibly emotional. Following San Antonio’s 111-103 Game 7 victory over the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Wembanyama was seen embracing teammates and fighting back tears as the reality of the moment began to sink in. The win sends the Spurs to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2014 and marks another milestone in the meteoric rise of the French phenom. View this post on InstagramA post shared by NBA (@nba)Wembanyama finished Game 7 with 22 points and seven rebounds, helping close out a hard-fought Western Conference Finals series against league MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder. He was later named Western Conference Finals MVP. When asked how he was feeling afterward, the Spurs star explained that reaching the NBA Finals represents something he has envisioned for much of his life.“This is a dream,” Wembanyama said after the game, reflecting on the magnitude of the moment. “It’s a lifetime chance… It’s hard to put into words. It’s almost like the meaning of my life.”The emotional display was notable given the scrutiny Wembanyama faced just days earlier. After a disappointing Game 5 loss, the young star declined to speak with reporters, drawing criticism from some analysts and prompting questions about how he was handling the pressure of his first deep playoff run. San Antonio rallied to win Games 6 and 7, with Wembanyama leading the charge as the Spurs completed one of the most impressive postseason runs in franchise history. Now, the focus shifts to the NBA Finals, where the Spurs will face the New York Knicks in a matchup few predicted at the start of the season. The Knicks haven’t been to the Finals since 1999, when they were defeated by the Spurs. The New York team hasn’t won an NBA championship since 1973. Conversely, the Spurs have won five championships, with the most recent in 2014. AI porn isn’t regulated. What does that mean for depictions of queer people?
When Pornhub released its most-watched categories of 2025, queer-themed content held the top two spots: “Lesbian” was the most viewed category, and “Transgender” was the second most viewed, up five spots from 2024. The global appetite for LGBTQ adult content is increasing in tandem with the explosion of AI porn. Over the last year, Google searches for “AI porn generators” have steadily climbed, with one site receiving 8.57 million visitors in January. But unlike porn made up of real people, AI porn is largely unregulated, opening the door for the exploitation of queer bodies. Related AI disproportionately discriminates against trans people. It doesn’t have to be this way. “More often than not, AI-generated pornography falls under this umbrella of ‘non photo-realistic media,’ or ‘non hyper-realistic adult content,’ not unlike illustration,” Aurélie Petit, a postdoctoral researcher at the Quebec research chair on French-language artificial intelligence and digital technologies, told Uncloseted Media and GAY TIMES. “And the moment you don’t know how to address this kind of content, then you don’t know what to do with a big part of AI adult productions.” Though there have been steps taken to regulate the AI porn industry, there is still a long way to go. Last year, Congress passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which bans the publication of intimate, non-consensual images in the U.S., including AI-generated images. And the sharing of these images, known as deepfakes, is now a felony in Tennessee. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today But much of AI porn isn’t based on one person’s likeness. Rather, it’s generated from a vast database of preexisting content used to teach the AI model. So any user who wants to create porn can simply ask an AI model to create their dream scenario, and—in a matter of minutes—a video to their liking that depicts realistic people is created. “There’s a very real concern that some of the worst types of content on the internet—hateful content, non-consensual content of children … those exist on the internet, and we cannot verify that data sets [used to power AI algorithms] don’t include those images,” says Miranda Wei, postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University’s Center for Information Technology Policy. Outside of deepfakes, U.S. laws leave AI-generated porn in a legal gray area, often varying by state or municipality. In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill cracking down on deepfakes and requiring AI-generated content to be watermarked. But there is yet to be a consistent policy across the board on how to legislate AI porn. “When you have real people, or images that look like real people, we understand harm,” says Petit. “But most platforms do not know what to do. … It’s really a legal blur, a policy blur.” Depictions of Trans Women Because transphobic people make up a significant chunk of porn consumers, mainstream trans porn is often designed in a way that leans into prejudice. Videos using slurs or harmful tropes perform well on porn websites, and Google Trends show that searches for “tr***y porn” and “shemale porn” remain high. On Reddit, the largest trans-related subreddit is r/traps, a porn-sharing group named after a derogatory term that describes trans women as “traps” for cis men. “[The internet] is still often reflecting a very heteronormative mindset. … Those preexisting biases for what kinds of content exists on the internet informs the data that is fed into those AI models,” Wei told Uncloseted Media and GAY TIMES. A quick search for “AI trans porn” produces countless generated images of hyper-feminine trans women with unrealistically large penises, often the same length as their torsos. Other videos show trans women being penetrated by men with penises so large that, in real life, they would inevitably cause physical harm. “When they say trans, you need to really understand it’s trans women, and a trans woman who still has a penis… it’s really a fetishization of trans women pre-operation,” Petit says. One of Google’s first search results for “AI trans porn” is for CreateAIShemale. On the site, users can build a trans woman from a wide variety of options. They can choose her age, the size of her breasts, butt, and penis, and select from nearly 70 modifiers including “bimbo,” “spanked, hand print,” “impregnation,” and “pony cock.” The site also lists 42 options for “race,” with strange inclusions such as “goblin” and “green skin.” On a separate but similar site, the owners write: “Your fantasy, your rules. With Trans AI customization, you can design every detail of your AI companion—from physical characteristics and outfits to voice tone and personality traits. … Our shemale AI models can generate images and videos on demand, making your interactions more vivid and exciting. … Shemale AI makes it possible instantly.” Brandon Robinson, associate professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of California, Riverside, says these infinite customization options are concerning: “[It] can further the objectification of trans women, as it treats them as just sex objects that can be changed and customized to one’s own likes and desires,” they say. “It also erases that trans women are real, actual human beings, with their own wants, needs, and desires.” Beyond the fetishization lies a celebration of violence against trans women. A quick search yields videos with headlines that include “AI Generated Shemale Getting Destroyed by a Massive Dick.” Robinson says these depictions exacerbate preexisting stereotypes. “A lot of men come into dating or hooking up with trans women with these stereotypes.” | screenshot Depictions of Gay Men While deepfake laws in the U.S. now offer some protection, AI porn that isn’t based on one person’s likeness is harder to prosecute. And that’s concerning when you look at the global appetite for gay porn. In 2025, Pornhub reported that “femboy” and “twink” were the site’s two most searched for gay terms. And “Femboy Fixation” was one of the top five trends that defined 2025, with searches for “cute femboy” and “sexy femboy” up 79% and 93%, respectively. What’s concerning is that AI has the ability to produce depictions of categories—which are code words for skinny, younger men—that take it to the next level. Many AI-generated depictions of these men show very thin, often emaciated, bodies. “It’s giving very unrealistic body ideas,” Robinson told Uncloseted Media and GAY TIMES. “And we know that there’s a history of eating disorders and body dysmorphia within the gay community.” | screenshot Depictions of children in AI porn is another space that has opened the door for bad-faith actors. A 2026 issue brief from UNICEF found that across 11 countries, at least 1.2 million children reported having had their images manipulated into sexually explicit deepfakes through AI tools in the past year. And while there have been regulations on deepfakes, groups devoted to creating twink and femboy AI porn can create videos that depict youthful, small bodies, potentially making content that blurs the lines between adult content and child pornography. While some may find it hard to believe that something as sinister and criminalized as child pornography could be informing AI models, Wei says it’s happening. “Using Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) is definitely not legal. It is awful. But lots of illegal things still happen,” she says. “People do use generative AI to generate AI CSAM, because the models have probably ingested CSAM before.” | screenshot Lesbian Porn and AI Unrealistic depictions of lesbian sex are also popping up in AI porn. One AI-generated lesbian porn video shows a woman licking semen out of another woman’s vagina—inserting an invisible male presence into sex between women. Another disturbing part of AI’s representation of lesbians has to do with how it often makes women look identical. In one AI-generated image, two lesbians in matching black bikinis sit on the beach. Their haircuts, facial features and bodies are the same. Through these kinds of images, AI risks encouraging viewers to overlook women’s individuality or—worse—lean into the fetish of incest. In addition, many of the AI-generated depictions of women are feminine, extremely thin, white, and often have unrealistically large breasts and butts. While these attributes are already sought after in conventional porn, AI generators have the ability to produce depictions of women with impossible body proportions. “[AI porn] maintains unrealistic beauty standards that most people can’t conform or live up to but also it pushes most people out of being seen as desirable and beautiful,” says Robinson. The Impact on the Viewer AI-generated porn can be harmful for those who watch it, especially for young people: Pornography is already highly addictive, with one study finding a 91% increase in pornography consumption since 2000. Another study found that between 17-24% of adolescents have experienced a dependency on AI. Wei finds this troubling because much of how AI porn is generated is a black box. “From a consumer standpoint, you don’t really have the ability to audit how this tool was made,” she says. Because of this, users may unknowingly consume media that is based off of abusive imagery or even child pornography. This is because the massive amount of data that tech companies use to feed their AI models is gathered from across the internet, making it impossible for individuals to vet each piece of information. “It feels more risky to use it when you don’t know who created [the AI porn], what their intentions were, or how they collected the data that was used to make it.” Wei says what’s most concerning is that the data that tech companies use to feed their AI models is not always publicly available. “Large tech companies can be very protective of where they get their data. That is part of their business,” she says. “The scale at which these data sets are being collected means that you cannot have a human manually go through and verify that every piece collected was consensual [or] that a queer person was accurately depicted.” What Can be Done? Some popular generative AI models say there are safety regulations in place. ChatGPT’s website states that the model cannot be used for the creation of “illicit activities” or “sexual violence.” But Petit says that bad-faith actors may still succeed in skirting regulation. “There’s so many AI generators, and there’s people whose entire game is to break the generation,” she says. “You can tweak it more and more and can make the AI do something it doesn’t want.” In one Reddit thread, a user of Elon Musk’s Grok expressed frustration about newly developed moderation making it harder to generate explicit images. In response, another user seemingly confirmed they were able to find a workaround: “Right now I’m generating realistic videos of completely naked men with tentacles and fluids and non-con sex talk and moans and it works great,” the user wrote. The potential for nefarious uses of AI came to light when it was revealed that, starting in December 2025, Grok produced and shared upwards of 1.8 million sexualized images of women over the course of nine days. “As we’ve seen with Grok and the numerous scandals over the past few years, the ability to stop an AI model from creating explicit imagery of someone is … unsolved,” Wei says. Wei doesn’t have a bulletproof solution. “I’m not necessarily aware of a universal technique that could prevent, 100% of the time, the creation of images of other people,” she says. There are, however, strategies that help safeguard AI models. For example, red teaming, which consists of prompting an AI model to generate illicit content, is an ethical tool companies can use to spot regulatory weaknesses. “[It’s] a way to adversarially test, to attack a model and see if it can do harmful things which you are trying to prevent it from doing,” says Wei. With some companies like Google employing hackers to red team in hopes of identifying security concerns, Wei thinks other AI companies should do the same. Another approach lies in public model cards, which are small files accompanying AI models that provide information about the data the model was trained on, as well as the AI’s intended use and limitations. Both of these methods are in pursuit of transparency, which Wei sees as necessary to safer AI use. “There should be a way to make technologies safe when people want to use them. … Transparency is needed in order to make progress on safety issues, but that’s again, ongoing.” In the meantime, Wei says that “tech companies and lawmakers need to step up” and implement greater regulation around AI porn. “Effective regulation also needs the input of people who already have lived experience with pornography, like sex workers and adult actors, and anyone who would be depicted in this imagery.” Additional reporting by Spencer Macnaughton and Hope Pisoni. Tennessee softball coach Karen Weekly disputes claim by Texas Tech's Taylor Pannell regarding handshake line remarks
In Saturday’s action at the Women’s College World Series, No. 2 Tennessee defeated No. 11 Texas Tech on a walk-off home run by Emma Clarke. The Volunteers advanced to Monday’s semifinal round while the Red Raiders play an elimination game against No. 18 UCLA on Sunday night. However, Tennessee coach Karen Weekly and Texas Tech third baseman Taylor Pannell didn’t move past their matchup immediately after Saturday’s matchup. Following the game, Pannell — who transferred from Tennessee to Texas Tech after last season — claimed that Weekly told her that she made a mistake by leaving Knoxville in the postgame handshake line. "We were walking through the line just saying 'good game,' and she said that I made a mistake instead of saying 'good game,' which is kind of crazy," Pannell told reporters, including the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Cora Hall. "Like celebrate with your team. I just think it's funny she's still thinking about it,” she added. “It's old news. Whatever."When informed of Pannell’s accusations, Weekly told Hall that the claim was “an outright lie.” "If you rewatch at the tape of the handshake line, you’re going to see me go just as fast by her as anybody else," Weekly said, via the Knoxville News Sentinel. "I didn’t even know where she was in the handshake line.“That’s an outright lie,” she continued. “I said good game, like I said to every other player."Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentPannell played three seasons for Weekly at Tennessee. Last year as a junior, she hit 16 home runs with 65 RBI and a slash average of .398/.493/.747 in 64 games. She entered the transfer portal on June 12 and announced that she was transferring to Texas Tech on the same day, which prompted allegations of tampering from Weekly. "I think we can all agree on 2 things: 1) women making money in sports is awesome and long overdue,” Weekly wrote on June 13. “2) contacting players (directly or indirectly) before their season ends and signing them to NIL deals before they enter the portal is wrong. Money isn’t the issue - tampering is!" The Tennessee coach did not directly single out Pannell, Texas Tech or Red Raiders coach Gerry Glasco in a social media post. However, Weekly spoke more directly on the matter to The Athletic before the NCAA softball tournament began.“There’s no question they were in contact with our player long before the season was over,” Weekly said to The Athletic’s Lindsay Schnell. “A financial agreement was signed with Texas Tech before she ever went in the portal. [She] told me that.”Adding to the lingering tensions that were stoked on Saturday were social media posts by Pannell’s father, which have since been deleted. Softball on SI screen-captured the deleted tweets, one of which said “Karen Weekly was right that my kid did make a mistake and that was to play for her.”

Liverpool must move for perfect Arne Slot replacement – Opinion
Liverpool must move for perfect Arne Slot replacement – OpinionWhy Liverpool Should At Least Explore the Luis Enrique PossibilityLuis Enrique has done what very few managers in modern football have ever achieved. He has delivered consecutive Champions League triumphs for Paris Saint-Germain and transformed a club once criticised for individual brilliance into a genuine collective powerhouse. The PSG side that has dominated Europe over the past two seasons is not built around superstar egos or marketing appeal. It is built around coaching, structure, intelligence and relentless intensity. That is why Enrique now sits comfortably among the elite managers in world football. The question Liverpool’s hierarchy may quietly be asking is simple. What comes next for him?PSG have conquered Europe. They continue to dominate French football. The project Enrique inherited has now reached a level where maintaining success may prove harder than achieving it in the first place. For some coaches, that is enough. For others, a new challenge becomes irresistible.Liverpool represents one of the very few jobs in world football capable of tempting a manager away from an established giant. Regardless of PSG’s recent success, there remains a unique prestige attached to managing Liverpool Football Club. The history. The supporter base. The expectation. The atmosphere. The pressure. There are only a handful of clubs in world football that can genuinely claim to sit in that bracket, and Liverpool remains firmly among them.If Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are conducting a thorough search for Arne Slot’s successor, surely the world’s best coach deserves at least a phone call.Nobody expected Liverpool to persuade Jürgen Klopp to leave Borussia Dortmund.Nobody expected them to attract some of the elite talents they have recruited over the past decade. Football changes quickly when the right opportunity emerges. And if Enrique feels he has completed his PSG mission, Liverpool may represent one final mountain worth climbing. The Dream Appointment Liverpool Supporters CraveAndoni Iraola remains an outstanding candidate. Young, progressive, energetic and familiar to Richard Hughes. His work at Bournemouth has earned enormous admiration and there is a strong argument that he is perfectly suited to rebuilding Liverpool’s identity after a disappointing campaign. But Luis Enrique exists in a different category. He is not a promising coach. He is a proven world-class manager. The Spaniard has demonstrated his ability to dominate domestically, succeed in Europe and develop players while maintaining a clear footballing identity. His teams press aggressively, move the ball with purpose and attack with imagination. Most importantly, they are recognisable. That was arguably Liverpool’s biggest issue under Slot.Supporters struggled to identify exactly what the team was trying to become. The football often appeared slow, cautious and disconnected from the values that had previously made Liverpool one of Europe’s most feared opponents.Enrique would immediately change that.Imagine a Liverpool side featuring Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Rio Ngumoha and Dominik Szoboszlai operating within Enrique’s fluid attacking system. Imagine the intensity returning. Imagine the crowd reconnecting with a team that once again plays with aggression and confidence. Then there is the Premier League narrative. After defeating Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the Champions League final, the prospect of continuing that rivalry across a full English season would be fascinating. Two elite coaches. Two elite clubs. Two ambitious projects fighting for supremacy.Whether Liverpool can realistically lure Enrique away from Paris remains uncertain. The financial challenge would be enormous. The negotiations would be complex. And Iraola may already be further down the road than anyone realises. But if Liverpool genuinely wants the best available coach in world football, there may be nobody better qualified than Luis Enrique.Sometimes the most ambitious clubs make the most ambitious calls. Liverpool should at least make that one.

Overall leader Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard pedals during the last stage of the Giro d'Italia in Rome Sunday May 31, 2026. (Fabio Ferrari/LaPresse via AP)2026-05-31T17:06:56Z ROME (AP) — Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard won the Giro d’Italia on Sunday, becoming the eighth male rider to win all three Grand Tours.Vingegaard, who rides for Team Visma-Lease a Bike, ended the three-week race with an overall advantage of 5 minutes, 22 seconds over second-place Felix Gall. Jai Hindley finished third, 6:25 behind.Vingegaard won the Tour de France in 2022 and ’23 and last year clinched his first Spanish Vuelta title. It was his first Giro. After crossing the line in Rome, the 29-year-old Vingegaard embraced his wife and two children, who were wearing replicas of his maglia rosa — the leader’s pink jersey.Having dominated his first Giro — living up to his billing as pre-race favorite — Vingegaard will turn his attention to the Tour de France as he attempts to become the ninth man to complete the Giro-Tour double. The largely processional final Giro stage, that ended with eight laps through Rome, was won by sprint specialist Jonathan Milan. The 131-kilometer route started in Rome and then went out the sea before returning to the Italian capital for the finishing circuit. So relaxed were the riders that they were all seen sharing a box of sweets as they started the stage, before also being given glasses of Prosecco. They also all posed for team photos during the ride out to the sea.Milan, who had seen other bids for stage wins end in disappointment earlier in the race, finally got his victory. The Italian edged out compatriot Giovanni Lonardi and French cyclist Paul Penhoët in a bunch sprint.___AP cycling: https://apnews.com/hub/cycling 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

Ruturaj Gaikwad replaces injured Riyan Parag in India A squad for Sri Lanka tri-series
Ruturaj Gaikwad has earned a return to the India A setup after being drafted into the squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka. The right-hander comes in as a replacement for Riyan Parag, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and will now undergo rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The selection offers Gaikwad an immediate opportunity to rebuild momentum after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. Despite leading the Chennai Super Kings, the opener struggled to make his usual impact, scoring 337 runs at an average of 28.08 and a strike rate of 123.44.India A's selectors, however, have shown faith in his ability by not only bringing him into the squad but also naming him vice-captain alongside captain Tilak Varma. The tour could prove crucial for Gaikwad as he looks to push his case for future national-team opportunities.Updated India A squad for tri-series: Tilak Varma (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Kumar Kushagra (WK), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy,The tri-series will feature India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. All white-ball matches will be played in Dambulla before the tour moves to Galle for two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A. The squad for those red-ball fixtures will be announced separately. For Gaikwad, the tour represents more than just another India A assignment. After a difficult IPL season, it offers a valuable chance to rediscover form, lead from the front and remind selectors why he remains one of India's most highly rated batting prospects.

Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The first of 16 tickets to the NCAA baseball super regionals should be punched Sunday. Though rain has wreaked havoc on the schedule at multiple regionals, most are in line to see teams that have gone 2-0 so far this weekend clinch a spot in the next round with a victory today. That list of teams that will advance with a win today includes No. 2 overall seed Georgia Tech, No. 3 Georgia and No. 5 North Carolina, among others who will await the winners of earlier elimination games in their regionals. The headliner in that group is No. 1 UCLA, which gets a rematch with Saint Mary's after falling to the Gaels on Friday. The Bruins had to rally in the ninth inning to survive against Virginia Tech on Saturday and will continue to play with no margin for error. No. 4 Auburn also is up against it and will need to beat UCF and tournament Cinderella story Milwaukee today to have a chance to advance Monday. So the Red Sox want to give him today plus the off day tomorrow," The Boston Globe's Tim Healey wrote on Bluesky. "Willson Contreras occasionally hyperextends his elbow/arm on swings, so Tracy likewise wants to give him a rest."Tracy reiterated that the pair of right-handed hitters should benefit from the extra day of rest."I’m not overly concerned about either of these guys after the off day, but there are some guys banged up," the 40-year-old said, according to a report by Cotillo.Contreras and Rafaela have been two of the Red Sox's most productive batters this season. The former paces the team in home runs (11), RBIs (33) walks (23), slugging percentage (.505), OPS (.889) and total bases (99), while the 25-year-old Gold Glove award winner is third in hits (53), tied for second in doubles (11) and second in stolen bases (six).More MLB: Red Sox's Garrett Crochet Suffers Injury Setback, Faces Likely MRI

Paris Saint-Germain players celebrate amid riot recriminations
Paris Saint-Germain players celebrated with the Champions League trophy on stage near the Eiffel Tower (Kenzo TRIBOUILLARD)The French capital laid on a hero's welcome Sunday for Paris Saint-Germain players to mark their second straight Champions League title, amid bitter recriminations after hundreds of people were arrested and dozens of police hurt in a night of unrest across the country.Tens of thousands of flag-waving fans took to the streets again to see the team parade from Paris Charles de Gaulle airport to the Champ de Mars plaza in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The team flew back from Budapest where they beat English Premier League champions Arsenal on Saturday night 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out.They were also received by President Emmanuel Macron before returning to their Parc des Princes stadium for a final encounter with fans.A night of celebrations was blighted however by clashes between youths and police in Paris and other cities, cars set on fire and shops looted. One man died riding his motorbike around the Paris ring road in celebration while authorities reported stabbings and other attacks. They said 57 police and 219 "participants" were injured. Eight of the injured were in critical condition.Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said there were 780 arrests across France, nearly a third more than when PSG's triumph last year over Inter Milan also set off a night of disturbances. He said looting had taken place in around 15 cities across the country. Municipal workers hurried Sunday morning to clear the Paris streets of broken glass, damaged bus shelters, trash cans and burned out cars and bikes before PSG's return.French President Emmanuel Macron called the violence "unspeakable".But amid political recriminations over the troubles, Paris mayor Emmanuel Gregoire played down the severity, saying such incidents were nothing new.- 'Brainless thugs' -"In the vast majority of cases, people celebrated with family and friends. And it was an extraordinary celebration," the mayor told BFM TV. "And incidents on the fringes of major events have been going on for centuries."Gregoire blamed the "media coverage" of the unrest "and perhaps also the obsession of these troublemakers who come to cause trouble and show themselves on social media"."There's a kind of escalation, a chain reaction, and an incitement, in a way, to do just about anything," he added. The town hall for the Paris district that includes the Champs-Elysee, where tens of thousands went after the football victory, called for a ban on such gatherings. On Saturday night, the "Champs-Elysees avenue and its surroundings ceased to be a place of celebration and became an arena of urban guerrilla warfare", the town hall said in a statement.Politicians from all sides lambasted the troubles and questioned the way it was handled.Far-right figurehead Marine Le Pen wrote on X that "only in France does a football club's victory spark riots".Valerie Pecresse, the head of the greater Paris council from the Republicans party, slammed "the brainless thugs who allow themselves to destroy everything, tarnishing the image of Paris and France!". She demanded "exemplary sanctions" in a post on X.A spokesperson for the hard-left France Unbowed said: "We cannot be satisfied with the way last night's event was managed and organised by the government."- Riding high -Nunez promised "strongarm" security for Sunday's celebrations as thousands of PSG supporters waited, waving flags and sporting PSG shirts. Some 6,000 police were on duty across the centre of the capital."We're still riding yesterday's high, so we want to keep the party going," said 25-year-old Abou, a PSG fan "since he was little". "Paris, Paris" chanted supporters, as they filtered through security checkpoints to get spots near a stage where the players appeared. The "We Are the Champions" pop song blared out on speakers. The streets were so packed that the team arrived more than an hour late at the Champs-de-Mars where they paraded on a red, white and blue tricolour carpet to the stage.Giant screens showed replays of the penalty shootout that brought the trophy back to Paris."It was great, there was the stress of the penalty shootout but it was good stress in the end," said Mirna Makima, a 39-year-old physiotherapist who travelled from Belgium for the celebrations.burs-sw/tw/phz

‘I Kept Winning’ – How Phetjeeja Went From Fighting Boys To Chasing Two-Sport Glory
Before she attempts to become a two-sport ONE World Champion at The Inner Circle on Friday, June 19, “The Queen” Phetjeeja Lukjaoporongtom continues to carry one of the most unique stories in all of combat sports. The reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion will challenge ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues for the undisputed crown in a massive clash between two of the greatest pound-for-pound female strikers on the planet. The blockbuster bout airs live in Asia primetime, exclusively on live.onefc.com from Bangkok’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium.View this post on InstagramYet, even on a resume that now includes an interim World Title, a World Championship unification victory, and a successful defense of her undisputed kickboxing crown, one specific chapter of Phetjeeja’s journey stands entirely apart. Before she became “The Queen,” she was known across Thailand as the girl who defeated the boys.Phetjeeja Fought Boys Because There Were No Girls Left To Face HerFor Phetjeeja, Muay Thai was never simply a hobby.Like many young martial artists growing up in rural Thailand, stepping into the ring represented a crucial opportunity to earn money and help support her family from a very young age. She began fighting at just 6 years old, following in the footsteps of her older brother, but quickly discovered there were almost no female opponents available in her weight class.View this post on InstagramSo, she fought boys instead. At first, those matchups happened simply out of necessity. But after continuously defeating male opponents around her size, the young Thai phenom slowly became a national sensation. The 24-year-old explained:“I started fighting when I was 6 years old. I fought male fighters from my very first fight because there were no female fighters in my weight range. So, I started off fighting boys.”View this post on InstagramAs her reputation grew, so did the overwhelming demand for those intergender fights. Phetjeeja traveled around Thailand competing against boys in provincial stadiums, often fighting multiple times in a single day because opportunities for female fighters barely existed at the time.By the time most children were entering secondary school, Phetjeeja had already amassed more than 100 fights. Roughly 70 of them came against boys. She recalled:“I kept winning. I fought male fighters in the provinces based on weight comparison. Sometimes, I fought twice in one day against male fighters. One fight would be during the day, and another would be at night.”View this post on InstagramSoon, Phetjeeja became nationally recognized through televised stadium fights in Bangkok, where fans across Thailand began recognizing her as the young girl defeating boys inside the ring.Much of her training also took place alongside boys and men, helping her adapt to stronger training partners from an unusually young age.She said:“Sometimes I was clinched by four or five male fighters at the same time. It was to test my strength and see if I could cope with four or five men at once. Training with men all the time strengthened my heart and pushed me to fight every day.”View this post on InstagramPhetjeeja’s Fame Eventually Changed Her Career ForeverAs Phetjeeja’s fights against boys gained more national attention through televised broadcasts, the public scrutiny around intergender competition intensified.Although regulations against male-versus-female fights already existed in Thailand, they had rarely been strictly enforced on the provincial Muay Thai circuits.View this post on InstagramThat abruptly changed once Phetjeeja’s fights started airing nationwide. She still vividly remembers learning about the sudden decision just moments before one of her scheduled fights.Phetjeeja explained:“I heard that I might not be able to fight again because the Sports Authority of Thailand was against it. The promoter told me that I couldn’t fight because they no longer allowed fights between male and female fighters.”View this post on InstagramThe decision absolutely devastated her.Ironically, the massive success that made her famous also threatened to end her career prematurely. There were almost no girls willing to fight her, and now she could no longer face boys either. Phetjeeja genuinely feared she might not have a future in Muay Thai at all.She recalled:“I was really disappointed because I had always been fighting against male fighters. There were no female fighters around. Female fighters were really rare. No one would fight with me.”View this post on InstagramFor several months, her fighting career effectively stalled. Eventually, promoters began matching her against significantly larger and older female opponents simply to keep her active. Despite often giving away several kilograms in weight and facing physically stronger rivals, she continued winning, ultimately building the elite resume that would later make her one of Thailand’s most decorated female strikers.Today, Phetjeeja owns a remarkable 210-6 career record, but she firmly believes those incredibly difficult years shaped the unbreakable mentality that still drives her today. She said:“Fighting male fighters shaped and strengthened my heart to be durable and patient until today. Without those days and without my father by my side, there wouldn’t be me today.”View this post on InstagramChildhood Rivals Turned Global StarsAmong all the boys Phetjeeja fought growing up, one name remained especially memorable: former ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title challenger Songchainoi Kiatsongrit. The pair fought each other three different times as children during Phetjeeja’s rise through Thailand’s provincial circuits, developing a fierce rivalry that later beautifully evolved into mutual respect and friendship.View this post on InstagramYears later, both eventually arrived in ONE Championship together. For Phetjeeja, seeing Songchainoi competing on the same global stage felt less like reconnecting with an old rival and more like reuniting with someone who truly understood her difficult journey. The Team Mehdi Zatout star concluded:“I fought Songchainoi three times. I beat him twice, and he beat me once. Then I joined ONE Championship. I saw him there too, and I was really excited. It felt like a reunion with a childhood friend.”“I am happy for him to be in ONE like me.”View this post on InstagramSource

Pirates make worrying Carmen Mlodzinski roster move amid clear dissatisfaction
Pirates make worrying Carmen Mlodzinski roster move amid clear dissatisfaction originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Pittsburgh Pirates got some good news for Sunday's matchup with Ryan O'Hearn returning from the injured list. But they also got some bad news.Konnor Griffin replaced O'Hearn on the IL, which is a brutal blow, but it's not the most worrying roster move the Pirates made on Sunday.According to Jason Mackey of MLB.com, the Pirates have placed Carmen Mlodzinski on the restricted list after he clearly expressed his dissatisfaction over losing his starting rotation job with Jared Jones' return.Pirates place Carmen Mlodzinski on restricted list"Pirates have placed Carmen Mlodzinski on the restricted list and recalled Cma Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis," Mackey reports. "Would imagine further explanation forthcoming."This decision from the Pirates comes a few days after Mlodzinski was taken out of the starting rotation to accommodate the retuning Jared Jones. As 93.7 The Fan shared, Mlodzinski was clearly not happy with the decision. He said, "I'm just still communicating with the organization, the people in my corner, whether that's my family or my agency, about what's next.#Pirates Carmen Mlodzinski has taken going to the bullpen hard pic.twitter.com/OhmG5ACRxX— 93.7 The Fan (@937theFan) May 29, 2026It was clear he was not a fan of the decision to be moved to the bullpen, which isn't that surprising considering how well he's pitched this season as a starter. On the season, he has a 3.76 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 11 outings this season, nine of which were starts. Since May eighth, he's made four starts and has gone at least five innings and never allowed more than two runs in all four starts.Mlodzinski was a solid pitcher for the Pirates this season as a part of the rotation, but he lost his spot to Jones' return, as the Pirates stuck with Bubba Chandler in the rotation over Mlodzinski.MORE: Chase Burns becomes first Reds pitcher with elite stat line since 1922After his dissatisfaction over the decision was made clear, this roster move now sparks some worry about whether he's going to pitch again for the Pirates. While he might be more amenable to a bullpen role after this restricted list placement is over, it's hard to ignore the negative side effects of this roster move. For as good as Mlodzinski has been this season, it would be a shame if the Pirates had to move on from him with how dissatisfied he's been with this bullpen decision. It's too soon to determine the actual reason for this restricted list placement and whether the Pirates are going to move on from Mlodzinski. But the warning signs are there, and the 27-year-old right-hander might not be a part of the Pirates much longer.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxDodgers still have a Roki Sasaki problemYankees’ Aaron Judge on track to become first player in MLB history with five 50+ homer seasonsPhillies’ Aidan Miller finally beginning baseball activities amid back injury

Best of Hugo Gonzalez with Boston Celtics in 2025-26 NBA regular season
At the start of the first season in the NBA for rookie Boston Celtics forward Hugo Gonzalez, the primary question most analysts were asking about the former Real Madrid reserve was whether he would spend the season mostly playing at the G League level or if he might see some significant time with the parent club at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. But the Madrid native has since managed to dispel any chatter of it being wise to send him to Portland to play with the Maine Celtics, and instead acquitted himself as a bona fide NBA player enough that there was significant debate as to whether he should played more in the postseason. Gonzalez logged 3.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor overall, 36.2 percent from beyond the arc, and (oddly) 50 percent from the free throw line in his first year in the league. The folks behind the official "Boston Celtics" YouTube channel put together a clip of his best plays in it for us to watch. But the 30-year-old right-hander, who said he began feeling discomfort in the shin while preparing for a start against the Washington Nationals on May 9, said he was discouraged by how he felt throughout this week and during his bullpen Saturday.“That’s kind of where we made the decision to let’s try to look at this, pinpoint exactly what it is and have a better game plan of how to attack it,” Junk said.Marlins manger Clayton McCullough said he’s hopeful Junk won’t need much more than a minimum stint on the shelf.“Being his plant leg, drive-off leg, get some time off his feet, we’re encouraged — we believe it’s going to potentially be a two-to-three week thing,” McCullough said. “Let the inflammation get out of there and we’ll see how he responds.”Left-hander John King will start a bullpen game for the Marlins. Josh White, who was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to replace Junk on the roster, is expected to make his big league debut at some point Sunday. White is 4-0 with a 1.33 ERA and one save in 17 games at Jacksonville.Junk is the third Marlins pitcher to go on the injured list in as many days. Fellow starter Eury Pérez, who went on the shelf Friday due to a right gracilis strain, could miss up to two months. McCullough said Sunday that left-handed Andrew Nardi, who went on the IL Saturday, will be sidelined for up to three months with a stress reaction in his left rib cage.Junk is also the third starter the Marlins have lost this month. Rookie left-hander Robby Snelling, who suffered a UCL sprain following his big league debut May 8, underwent Tommy John surgery May 21.McCullough said off days Thursday and June 8 will help the Marlins navigate their rotation.“Unfortunately, injuries are a part of this and right now, having a few of them happen at the same time, it will test our depth some,” McCullough said. “The schedule gets broken up a little bit to be able to feel like (they’ll) be able to manage this. Whether it be traditional starters or openers, bullpen games, we’ll be fine.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Houston lands commitment from 2027 safety Tavon Bolden
Houston is red-hot on the recruiting trail and added more star power on Sunday.Within hours of wrapping up his official visit, touted safety Tavon Bolden declared for the Cougars.“Houston was the right choice for me because of just the culture there, they make everyone that comes in feel like family every time I’ve been there,” Bolden told Rivals. “This weekend just confirmed that it was the right thing to do, just by meeting with Coach (Willie) Fritz. He is a real, good, down-to-earth person. What is exciting about my future at Houston is that I would have the chance to play early and showcase my talents next spring.”Houston edged past Arizona State for the Humble (Texas) Atascocita standout.Bolden has had numerous interactions with Fritz and position coach PJ Hall over the course of multiple visits this spring and again this weekend.“I fit in really well with what they do on defense,” Bolden continued. “Just all the coaches and players there, they have a good bond and make everyone feel like family. They’re making me feel like this is the place I need to be.”

Arsenal 23yo target sends clear message over future
Arsenal 23yo target sends clear message over futureThe midfielder renewed his contract last year and says his immediate focus is on Valencia and Spain’s World Cup preparations.Photo by Aitor Alcalde/Getty ImagesJavi Guerra has moved to calm speculation around his future by telling Valencia supporters that he wants to stay at the club, despite reported interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Atlético de Madrid. The midfielder has been linked with several major clubs after a strong end to the season, but his public message was reassuring for Valencia.Guerra renewed his contract until 2029 last year after lengthy talks, and the club’s current stance is that he will be a central figure in the 2026/27 season.“I have a contract,” he wrote on social media. “I renewed last year. It’s clear that I want to stay here (at Valencia CF).”Guerra, who is valued at around €25m, reportedly has a €100m release clause and that’s the price Valencia want before they will consider any sort of sale. The 23-year-old’s final weeks of the season were ‘significant’ according to media in the country, and largely responsible for the interest in him now.Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty ImagesIn Valencia’s last four league matches, he scored three goals and provided three assists, helping Carlos Corberán’s side move away from the relegation zone and a late fight for European places on the final day.His performances have also earned him involvement with Spain ahead of the World Cup.Guerra has joined the group of support players working with Luis de la Fuente’s senior squad at Las Rozas as Spain prepare for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. It’s the same sort of role that Ethan Nwaneri has been called up to play with England.“I’m happy because it’s a dream I had since I was little and nothing now has to be enjoyed,” Guerra said.Guerra remains a name to watch only if Valencia’s stance changes or a club decides to meet the financial demands attached to him, which seems unlikely. Nobody is paying his clause as it stands and that is said to be the only fee Valencia would entertain. For now, the midfielder’s own message is clear enough. He has a contract, he has a role at Valencia, and he wants to stay. What Valencia would say, however, to a club offering €50m or so for him remains to be seen.

Official: Barcelona defender selected in Uruguay World Cup squad
Official: Barcelona defender selected in Uruguay World Cup squadOne of the last teams to announce their squad for the upcoming World Cup, Uruguay have finally released the final list of players who will travel to North America this summer.Quite unsurprisingly, the list features Barcelona star Ronald Araujo, who will play a key role for the South American giants as they look to impress in this year’s World Cup.Araujo named in Uruguay’s 26-man squadThe centre-back has been a mainstay of Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive setup and his inclusion was never in doubt, having been one of Uruguay’s most important players over the past few seasons.Araujo is joined in the defensive line by familiar faces, including Jose Maria Gimenez, Guillermo Varela, Sebastian Caceres, Mathias Olivera, Joaquin Piquerez and Matias Vina, giving Uruguay a well-stocked and experienced defensive unit.He is expected to partner Jose Maria Gimenez at the heart of defence, with the pair forming one of the most experienced centre-back combinations at the entire tournament. Guillermo Varela, Sebastian Caceres, Mathias Olivera, Joaquin Piquerez and Matias Vina provide further depth across the backline.Darwin Nunez, whose name has been linked with a potential move to Barcelona this summer during talks over Joao Cancelo’s permanent signing, leads the attacking line alongside Rodrigo Aguirre and Federico Vinas.Barcelona vs Barcelona?World Cup presents an excellent opportunity for Araujo. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images)Perhaps the most intriguing prospect for Araujo comes in the group stage, where Uruguay are drawn to face Spain. That fixture could see the Barcelona defender go head-to-head with several of his own club teammates, including Pedri, Gavi, Ferran Torres and Joan Garcia, in what promises to be one of the standout group stage clashes of the entire tournament. For Araujo, the World Cup represents the perfect stage to build on after a disappointing campaign.

Jurupa Valley transgender athlete AB Hernandez wins titles at CIF State Track & Field Championships
A transgender athlete from Jurupa Valley High School who has drawn protests for competing against girls won two events at the 106th CIF State Track & Field Championships in Clovis Saturday evening and finished third in another.AB Hernandez began Saturday's competition at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School by leaping 20-2 1/4 to finish third in the long jump. Ellie McCuskey-Hay of St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco and Gianna Gonzalez of Moorpark both jumped 20-3 1/2, with McCuskey-Hay taking first on the basis on a better second jump, 20-1 1/4 to 19-3 1/4.Corinne Jones of Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley was also credited with a third-place finish with a leap of 19-9 1/2.Under CIF policy, transgender athletes who place at the state championships receive medals but do not displace cisgender girls in the final standings. The federation announced last year that the policy would apply specifically to the long jump, triple jump and high jump -- the three events Hernandez competed in -- and the rule remained in effect for her three events this weekend.Hernandez cleared 5-10 to win the high jump. Lelani Laruelle of Monta Vista High School in Cupertino in Silicon Valley was also credited with a first- place finish, clearing 5-8.Hernandez won the triple jump with a leap of 42-8 3/4 inches. Daniela Hughes of Los Altos High School in Silicon Valley was also credited with a first-place finish, with a jump of 41-1, 1-7 3/4 shorter than Hernandez. In last year's state championships, Hernandez won the girls' triple jump and high jump and finished second in the long jump.Hernandez's participation has ignited protest both years.California's two major Republican candidates for governor, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and businessman Steve Hilton, have both issued statements against trans athletes competing against girls.Hilton appeared in Clovis on Friday beside signs that read, "Hey, CIF: Girls' Sports Girls Only."Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer released a video Friday of a prior conversation he had with Hernandez."I'm so proud of you for what you're doing," Steyer tells the teen in the video. "So proud of you for succeeding. So proud of you for competing. That's really the point. And I'm going to hope like heck that you don't just make state but you do really well there."The social media post that included the video had this post from Steyer: "The role of the governor is to protect Californians, and to stand between them and danger. That's a role I take very, very seriously, particularly when it comes to trans youth."Steyer also addressed the issue last weekend on the "I've Had It" podcast."When you understand the vulnerability, the stress, the danger of being a trans kid, and you understand almost half of them try to commit suicide, then you think, We're gonna punish those kids, we're gonna cut them off from team sports?" he said. "No, we're not."Hernandez, who graduated from Jurupa Valley High Wednesday, told the Riverside Press-Enterprise that she blocks out the uproar over her participation, including the presence of protesters."Track is a very singular sport; it teaches you to rely on yourself," Hernandez said. "Once you're on the track, you just stay focused on the track.""I just laughed" she said of the protesters. "I don't care."Hernandez's participation in last year's CIF meet also drew the attention of President Donald Trump, and the U.S. Justice Department later sued California for allegedly violating Title IX, warning that allowing transgender athletes to compete against biological females in high-school sports was putting billions of dollars in federal education funding at risk.

Osaka and Townsend's dinner for Black players at French Open caused 'bit of a stir' on social media
PARIS (AP) — Naomi Osaka and Taylor Townsend are piling up wins on the court at the French Open.Their success comes after drawing attention off the court for organizing a dinner for Black players before the tournament started.“It caused a bit of a stir, which I thought was pretty funny because for so long we have been the ones that (are) the minority in a sport where we kind of stick out,” Townsend said about chatter on social media. “And now coming together all of a sudden seems like a problem.”While Townsend said the reaction from her Instagram post about the evening was “mostly positive,” she said there was also online criticism.Several comments on Osaka’s and Townsend’s posts suggested the dinner as “segregation,” while another asked, “When are the white, Latino, and Asian parties?”It all prompted Townsend to quote a lyric from the rapper Finesse2tymes: “He said, ‘It’s cool when they do it; it’s a problem when I do it.’”Keeping in the rap theme, Townsend quoted Tupac Shakur in her post about the evening: “Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice; I say the darker the flesh, then the deeper the roots.”Besides Osaka and Townsend, the other attendees of the dinner were 2025 French Open champion Coco Gauff, retiring Frenchman Gael Monfils, doubles specialist Asia Muhammad and retired player turned TV commentator Chris Eubanks.“Growing up, there weren’t a lot of tennis players I could look up to that looked like me,” Osaka — whose father is from Haiti and mother is from Japan — said in her Instagram post about the dinner. “Being a minority in a sport like tennis is very isolating but the positive is that you keep tabs on everyone that … being blunt, is black. There’s a fellowship, a camaraderie.”“I felt like everyone in that room was a part of my family,” Osaka — who represents Japan but grew up mostly in the U.S. — added in a news conference. For Townsend, “it wasn’t just about the culture, it was healing for us to all be able to speak about our journeys.”While Gauff’s title defense ended with a loss to Anastasia Potapova on Saturday, Osaka has reached the fourth round in Paris for the first time in her career while showing off her taste for fashion with her elaborate walk-on outfits. American player Townsend and Czech partner Katerina Siniakova — the top-seeded doubles team — have won their opening three matches and are into the quarterfinals.Althea Gibson broke tennis' color barrierGauff beat Townsend in the opening round of singles, after which a ceremony was held on Court Philippe-Chatrier to honor the 70th anniversary of Althea Gibson’s 1956 French Open victory — the first Grand Slam title for a Black tennis player.Gibson was also the first Black player to compete at a major tennis tournament when she fought with the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association just to get admitted in 1950 to what was then called the U.S. Nationals — now the U.S. Open.“Taylor and I playing on Philippe-Chatrier is a direct product of Althea Gibson,” Gauff told the crowd after beating Townsend. “It just shows the importance of breaking barriers in all aspects of the world, but especially in sport. I’m very grateful for people like her and Serena and Venus (Williams), Zina Garrison for paving the way for us.”‘Soul Food’ Sunday at WimbledonThe dinner recalls how going back to the Harlem Renaissance, Black athletes, entertainers, musicians and writers held salons and dinners to celebrate their successes in a familial space. Such events were not meant as a slight to non-Blacks.Katrina Adams, a former pro and then the first Black president of the U.S. Tennis Association, said she was pleased to see “an old tradition” re-emerging.“In our era in the 80’s/90’s, we hosted ‘Soul Food’ Sunday on the middle Sunday of Wimbledon, when there was no play,” Adams said in a comment on Townsend’s post. “All the black players, got together, cooked, ate and enjoyed each other.”Adams said players like Garrison and Lori McNeil hosted the Wimbledon gatherings for years and that she passed on the tradition to the likes of Chanda Rubin, the Williams sisters, MaliVai Washington and Roger Smith.Townsend's unexpected vacation with OsakaTownsend and Osaka hardly knew each other before Osaka surprised Townsend by inviting her on a vacation last year to the Turks and Caicos.Townsend is an extrovert and Osaka a very quiet introvert.“I didn’t know why she invited me,” Townsend said. “(But) it ended up being the best time and Naomi and I floated in the ocean on a surfboard for three hours and talked to each other. … We’ve been friends ever since.”Both players are mothers.“We share a lot of the same values and principles and morals of how we go about life and how we want to treat people and what type of mothers that we want to be for our children,” Townsend said. “It goes way beyond tennis.”___AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis

Sunderland Prospect Is Generating Interest From Other Top PL Clubs: Should Le Bris Cash In On Him?
Sunderland Prospect Is Generating Interest From Other Top PL Clubs: Should Le Bris Cash In On Him?In a recent post on X, journalist Ekrem Konur stated that Sunderland prospect Chris Rigg is generating interest from other top Premier League clubs. It has been claimed that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City are all trying to sign the English playmaker from the Black Cats this summer.Rigg’s Impressive Rise In English FootballRigg has caught the eye at times with his performances for the Wearside club in the final third. The 18-year-old has scored one goal and grabbed one assist in 18 league matches for Sunderland this season. The English attacker is currently one of the most talented young playmakers in the Premier League. Hence, it is no wonder that so many top clubs are showing interest in recruiting him from the Black Cats this off-season.His current contract at the Stadium of Light will run out in the summer of 2030. Thus, Regis Le Bris is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him this off-season.SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND – APRIL 24: Chris Rigg of Sunderland reacts during the Premier League match between Sunderland and Nottingham Forest at the Stadium of Light on April 24, 2026 in Sunderland, England. (Photo by George Wood/Getty Images)Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Cash In On Rigg?Rigg can engineer a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. The English sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team. Rigg is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if required. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League and could be a real asset for Sunderland in the coming years. At the moment, Rigg remains an important member of Regis Le Bris’ squad. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team place at the Stadium of Light next season. At 18, the future looks quite bright for Rigg as long as he continues to improve with each year. All in all, Le Bris should only consider cashing in on him if he receives a massive offer for his services this summer. Another option for the Black Cats would be to keep hold of him as his market value will only grow in the future.

The Ultimate Guide To Real Madrid’s 2026 Presidential Election
Current President Florentino Pérez is facing a rival at the election for the first time in 20 years.AFP via Getty ImagesOn Sunday June 7th, Real Madrid’s approximately 95,000 registered members will decide who will lead the world’s most commercially powerful soccer club for the next four years. It is the first time since 2006 that there will actually be a choice on the ballot paper to be the club’s next President.Florentino Pérez, 79, faces businessman Enrique Riquelme, 37, in a contest that represents the first genuine electoral challenge to the incumbent since his return to the presidency in 2009. Pérez was re-elected unopposed in 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025.Pérez called the elections in the wake of a challenging season that saw the club fail to win a major trophy for the second consecutive year, a drought that, by Real Madrid’s own lofty historical standards, qualifies as a crisis. Protests from sections of the support during matches, some targeting Pérez directly alongside players including Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, had made the political temperature inside the Bernébu uncomfortable. The early election call, announced in a spectacular and controversial press conference, was widely read as a confidence vote: Pérez daring anyone in the shadows to step forward. That’s exactly what Riquelme has since done. When and where does the vote happen?Voting takes place on June 7, 2026 from 9am to 8pm CEST at the Basketball Pavilion of Ciudad Real Madrid, the club’s Valdebebas complex on the outskirts of the capital. Postal votes are also available for members on the electoral roll, subject to conditions established in the electoral rules. Given the logistics involved in mobilising a six-figure membership, turnout will be one of the stories within the story, particularly given mobility restrictions which are set to impact members given Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the Spanish capital on the same weekend. Results are expected the same evening, once counting begins after polls close at 8pm.Who gets to vote, and who can stand?Any member on the official electoral register is entitled to vote. Based on the most recent General Assembly data, Real Madrid had 95,612 registered members as of 2024.Standing for the presidency is considerably harder. Candidates must be Spanish citizens, legally competent, up to date on their membership obligations, and have at least 20 uninterrupted years as a club member. They must also provide a personal financial guarantee amounting to 15% of the club’s annual budget. With Real Madrid’s budget now in excess of €1 billion ($1.16 billiion), that financial threshold runs to around €185 million ($215.76 million) from the candidacy collectively. The rules were tightened in 2012, when the club constitution was changed to introduce the 20-year membership requirement and the budget guarantee backed by Spanish banks. The effect has been to make serious challenges structurally rare, which is precisely what makes this election notable.Who is standing? The Electoral Board has confirmed two valid candidacies: Florentino Pérez Rodríguez, member number 1,484, and Enrique José Riquelme Vives, member number 41,736.Pérez needs little introduction. He first took the presidency in 2000, built the Galácticos era around Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo Nazário, resigned in 2006, and returned in 2009 to oversee arguably the most decorated period in the club’s history, seven Champions Leagues, multiple league titles, and the billion-dollar renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu. His campaign slogan is “much more history to make” and as the incumbent, he remains the overwhelming favorite.Riquelme is a 37-year-old renewable energy entrepreneur and the CEO of Cox Group. His campaign slogan is “legacy and future,” and the centerpiece of his pitch is an ambitious redevelopment of Valdebebas called the “Member City” project which would transform the training ground into a fan-facing hub with swimming pools, padel courts and a basketball arena. He has also pledged to cut membership fees by 50% and create 10,000 new season tickets through a lottery system. More pointed are his governance attacks as Riquelme has repeatedly questioned why Florentino’s close associate Anas Laghrari, someone with no official position at the club, appears to be involved in major operations including Super League planning and stadium privatisation discussions. On the sporting side, Riquelme has pointed to Real Madrid currently having no players in the Spanish national team and has pledged to sign a player who will feature for Spain at the 2026 World Cup if elected. He has also said he has already agreed terms with a coach who is currently unavailable, declining to name the manager.Pérez, meanwhile, is expected to formalise the return of José Mourinho as head coach, though the election process has delayed that announcement. Can Riquelme actually win?A Riquelme victory seems unlikely, or at least against the odds. Pérez is carries significant credit from overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club’s history and has significant support from the club’s older fan base. Even Riquelme himself, in a moment of candour, called his opponent “the best president Real Madrid has ever had”.But the significance of June 7 is not really about the outcome. For the first time in two decades, Real Madrid’s membership will vote rather than simply ratify. These are the first elections at Real Madrid since 2006, when Ramón Calderón won after Pérez resigned during his first term. The mere existence of the contest, and the questions Riquelme has managed to put on the table about governance, transparency and the club’s relationship with its members, represents a shift in the internal conversation at the Bernabéu, regardless of what the result says on Sunday night. What does this mean for next season?Whoever wins on Sunday inherits a club with a squad that needs significant rebuilding after two consecutive trophyless seasons, and both candidates are already talking transfers. If Pérez is re-elected, as expected, the first piece of business is already in place. Pérez has posted videos on social media directly referring to Como midfielder Nico Paz, who Real Madrid hold a buy-back clause allowing them to re-sign the 21-year-old Argentina international who finished the season with 11 goals and 14 assists for Como in Serie A. The managerial picture is also clear under a Pérez presidency, if not yet official. José Mourinho is reported to have agreed terms to return to the Bernabéu as head coach, with the election process the only reason a formal announcement has not yet been made. The inability to finalize the deal sooner has reportedly increased the cost of bringing Mourinho back, with the Portuguese still under contract at Benfica. The appointment would represent one of the most high-profile managerial returns in European football after Mourinho won La Liga and the Copa del Rey during his first spell at the club between 2010 and 2013.Riquelme’s sporting pitch is built on bigger, if vaguer, promises. He has told media outlets that he has agreements in place with two unnamed “international stars” who will join Real Madrid if he wins the presidency, describing the deals as binding contracts rather than informal discussions. In separate interviews he has promised to sign a player who will represent Spain at the 2026 World Cup. His preferred managerial candidate has not been confirmed either. The commercial reality is that the election outcome shapes the entire summer. Contracts, coaching appointments and transfer targets are all on hold pending Sunday’s result, which, given the weight of expectation behind Pérez, most people inside the club already think they know. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Dylan Harper opens up on advice from five-time NBA champion father after Game 7
Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty ImagesRon Harper knows the road his son Dylan Harper is trying to travel, having won five NBA titles across the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers dynasties. Now Dylan has his own chance to join that family history, after helping San Antonio beat Oklahoma City in Game 7 and reach the NBA Finals. The Harpers can become the sixth father-son duo to win an NBA title, and the 20-year-old revealed what his father told him on court.Dylan Harper reveals Ron Harper’s advice after Game 7 victoryPhoto by Soobum Im/Getty ImagesDuring the post-match press conference, Harper said his father congratulated him, then quickly reminded him the job was not done and he had to stay confident.“He congratulates me and then he talks about what he did. So, you know, we kind of leave it at that, but he just told me to be confident in myself, there’s a reason why I’m here and job is not done, job is not finished,” he began by saying.“He’s kind of preached that to me throughout this whole playoffs, just always telling me just to do little things and just make sure that I’m aggressive and make sure that at the end of the day, I leave it all out there.”That advice matched Dylan’s late-series response. He scored 12 points in Game 7, shooting 63% and giving San Antonio vital bench control, adding to his 18-point display in Game 6.Father-son NBA title duos Dylan Harper could joinThe existing list is small. Matt Guokas Sr. and Matt Guokas Jr. were first, before Rick and Brent Barry joined them.Bill and Luke Walton later added another family, followed by Mychal and Klay Thompson, then Gary Payton and Gary Payton II.That is the company Dylan can enter if San Antonio finish the job.For now, Ron’s message is the right one: the Finals are not a celebration yet, they are another stage for Dylan to prove the Harper legacy has a new chapter.Read more:The LeBron James record Victor Wembanyama took after Spurs Game 7 winShai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Game 7 heroics cannot hide unwanted MVP markGiannis Antetokounmpo sends blunt message after fan compares him to Damian Lillard

Garrett Wilson is rooting for the Knicks, but he won't be paying for NBA Finals tickets
The New York Knicks are back in the NBA Finals, for the first time since 1999. It's a reminder that the Jets haven't played in the Super Bowl since 1999.Jets receiver Garrett Wilson is nevertheless happy for the Knicks and the New York fans. And the situation makes him even more determined to deliver a similar experience for Jets fans."The city deserves it, right?" Wilson told reporters recently. "And then when you see the way they receive it, it's just like, 'Oh, yeah, I mean, we wish it could happen every year, man.' Seeing the people, the way they get behind their team. "I know Jet fans are, you know, like frothing at the mouth to cheer like that, and we want to give it to them. I personally want to give it to them, you know, the most. . . . Yeah, man, it's cool to see, and I'm glad I'm up here for it. I'm rooting the Knicks on like hell. And yeah, man, you know, that gives us a taste of what it might look like when we figure this thing out, which, you know, we're excited for the opportunity."So will Wilson be going to one of the games? He laughed before saying, "Them jawn's expensive. So, not yet. I'm gonna be watching."For Game 3 on Monday, June 8, against the Spurs, the cheapest ticket to Madison Square Garden on a popular reselling site that we won't mention (because they don't pay us to do that) is $4,486. Which Garrett could easily afford, given his average salary of $32.5 million. The best seats for Game 3 are currently more than $28,000 each. Which he could still easily afford. But here's the reality. If they lose, he'll wish he hadn't spent the money. And, if they win, that $28,000 will be gone forever. Even at $32.5 million per year, it's smart to not spend foolishly.

Tony Pollard unbothered by pre-draft talk of Titans' interest in Jeremiyah Love
Tony Pollard has had four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, the past two with the Titans. Still, the Titans were betting favorites to take Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love in the draft. The Cardinals ended up drafting Love third overall, one pick ahead of the Titans, so it's unknown whether Tennessee would have drafted Love.Pollard was unbothered by talk of the Titans taking his replacement."I know in this league, it's their job to try to replace you," Pollard said, via Nick Suss of The Tennessean. "That's what comes with the business. To be honest, I wasn't really paying attention to it. Not much. I'd seen it, but I've got a wife and three kids and my wife's pregnant, so I've got a lot of things that keep me occupied."Pollard and former Titan Derrick Henry are the only running backs who have 1,000 yards each of the past four seasons. In two seasons with the Titans, Pollard has 576 touches for 2,605 yards and 10 touchdowns in 33 games.“The work ethic, everything that I’m doing behind the scenes, it’s paying off,” Pollard said, via Teresa Walker of the Associated Press. “I slowly feel like throughout my career I’ve just slowly progressed more and more, and I feel like I’m still trending in that direction.”

Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sánchez leaves game Sunday after getting hit by a ball thrown by fan
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sánchez left Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles with an injury. When Sánchez left the game, he was accompanied by a trainer and by manager John Schneider. The outfielder was favoring his right hand/wrist.The injury occurred during the bottom of the sixth inning, where the Orioles were leading 6-0 and had two base runners on. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentA replay of the broadcast showed that Sánchez may have signaled to the stands, but it could have been a wave. Either way, after doing it, a fan threw a baseball at Sánchez, and it hit him in the right hand/wrist. The shock of being hit unexpectedly likely caught Sánchez off guard, and he then began favoring his hand and wrist, prompting trainers to come out. The Orioles released a statement saying the fan has been identified and removed from the game. Baltimore also said it will conduct a full investigation into the matter. Sánchez began the game batting sixth for Toronto. He had a single in the second inning off of Kyle Bradish. It didn’t lead to anything as Charles McAdoo grounded into an inning-ending double play. In his second at-bat of the day, Sánchez grounded out to third base. He was replaced in the bottom of the sixth inning by Yohendrick Pinango, who hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to cut the Baltimore lead to four runs. Sánchez is playing in his seventh season in the major leagues. He joined the Blue Jays in the 2026 offseason. Sánchez has played in 56 games this season and is hitting .285 with six home runs and 28 RBI.

Why Brands Need Creators To Win The 2026 World Cup
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA - SEPTEMBER 04: Lionel Messi of Argentina celebrates after scoring the team's third goal during the South American FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier match between Argentina and Venezuela at Estadio Más Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti on September 04, 2025 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. (Photo by Marcelo Endelli/Getty Images)Getty ImagesThe 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be one of the biggest advertising moments in modern media history. But unlike previous tournaments dominated by television commercials and corporate sponsorships, this World Cup may ultimately be defined by creators.Today’s football audiences consume tournaments across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and livestream communities simultaneously. Fans follow memes, reactions, watchalongs, creator commentary, livestream debates and behind-the-scenes content throughout the tournament cycle. The 2026 World Cup may become the moment sports marketing fully adapts to that reality. The Real Competition Is Now For Online AttentionThe most important evolution happening ahead of the 2026 World Cup is that creators are becoming the primary distribution strategy in a world where audience attention itself has become fragmented.A fan watching a World Cup match may also be consuming creator reactions on YouTube, following clips on TikTok, participating in Discord communities and engaging with football commentary across multiple platforms at the same time. The live match remains valuable. But the surrounding creator ecosystem shapes how audiences experience the event itself.According to the Nielsen 2025 Global Sports Marketing Report, younger sports audiences are consuming content across fragmented digital ecosystems rather than through traditional linear television alone.Meanwhile, the WARC Influencer Marketing 2025 Report found that creator-led advertising continues to grow significantly faster than broader digital advertising categories. For marketers preparing for the World Cup, the implication is that reach alone is no longer enough, brands now need cultural participation.Creator-Native Brands Already Understand The PlaybookSome of the fastest-growing sports-related brands already operate with a creator-first mindset.Prime Hydration is perhaps the clearest example. Built around the audiences of KSI and Logan Paul, Prime scaled globally through internet culture, creator distribution and sports fandom long before relying on traditional advertising infrastructure. Its rapid rise demonstrated how creator-led distribution can build a sports brand at global scale.Meanwhile, sports betting platforms like FanDuel and DraftKings have embraced creator partnerships, podcasts, livestream personalities and social-first sports content to drive engagement around major sporting events. The commercial ecosystem surrounding global sports is also becoming creator-driven. During major tournaments, creators now influence everything from merchandise sales to fantasy sports engagement and betting behavior. Media companies and sports platforms are building creator partnerships around fan participation products, including fan engagement campaigns and popular comparison sites like Sportsbook Review highlighting betting bonuses tied to major sporting events.Even legacy sportswear giants are adapting. Adidas has leaned into creator-led football culture across YouTube, TikTok and social-first storytelling campaigns designed to resonate with younger audiences beyond traditional athlete endorsements. The common thread is that the most effective sports marketing behaves like internet culture rather than corporate advertising.FORBES | By Ian ShepherdJustin Bieber’s $10 Million Coachella Set Wasn’t A Concert — It Was A Content StrategyThe Sidemen Show What The Future Looks LikePerhaps no group better illustrates this transformation than Sidemen.Their annual Sidemen Charity Match has evolved into a major online sporting event generating millions of livestream viewers, viral clips and global social engagement. More importantly, it demonstrates how creators themselves can become sports entertainment infrastructure.Their content blends fandom, livestreaming, internet humor, influencer culture and community participation in ways that feel native to younger audiences. For brands, that environment offers something difficult to achieve through traditional advertising alone: sustained attention and cultural credibility.Traditional advertising still delivers scale but creators deliver trust and participation, something modern audiences value more. The YouTube Culture And Trends Report 2025 highlights how creator-led entertainment and participatory fandom are shaping the way younger audiences engage with live events, including sports.By the time the 2026 World Cup begins, many younger fans may spend as much time consuming creator commentary, reactions and livestream content around matches as the matches themselves.FORBES | By Ian ShepherdHow Instagram Became A Venture Capital Deal EngineWhy The Economics Favor Creator-Led CampaignsThe economics behind this transformation are also becoming difficult for marketers to ignore.Traditional World Cup advertising remains enormously expensive, particularly for brands competing for premium television placements during major matches. Creator-led campaigns, by comparison, often generate longer engagement windows, stronger community interaction and significantly more social distribution.Creators also provide flexibility that broadcast advertising often cannot. A global campaign built for television may remain static for months. Creators, however, can adapt instantly to viral moments, local fan reactions, controversies and online trends throughout the tournament. That adaptability is especially valuable for a World Cup hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, where digital communities and fan cultures will vary dramatically by region.According to the eMarketer Influencer Marketing Forecast 2025, creator-led advertising spending continues accelerating as brands prioritize engagement and community-driven distribution over traditional reach metrics.FORBES | By Ian ShepherdBrands Want Creators’ AI Likeness Rights But Contracts Aren't Keeping UpThe Future Of Sports Marketing Will Be Community-DrivenNone of this means traditional World Cup advertising is disappearing. Broadcast rights remain among the most valuable assets in media and television will still command enormous audiences during the tournament. But the broader marketing ecosystem around sports is evolving rapidly. The Deloitte 2025 Sports Industry Outlook notes that sports, entertainment and digital media are converging as younger audiences gravitate toward interactive and community-driven experiences. The broader lesson for marketers is that attention itself has become community-driven. In the creator economy, audiences no longer want to be marketed to during cultural moments — they want to experience those moments alongside personalities they already trust. This article was originally published on Forbes.com

The Kings are officially the new Wizards (in helping build NBA Finals teams)
The Washington Wizards can rest easy. Not only did they win the No. 1 overall pick in one of the best NBA Drafts in recent memory, but they're also no longer the preeminent, glorified farm team for the Association's top squads. That title now belongs to the Sacramento Kings, who I think we can also safely call the NBA's obvious most miserable franchise, too. With both the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs and Eastern Conference champion New York Knicks advancing to the 2026 NBA Finals, the Kings are about to be under the worst kind of microscope. Why? They have now contributed at least one major piece to four of the last eight teams to appear in the NBA Finals. That includes:Michael Malone, whom the Kings fired as their coach before he built the Nikola Jokić Nuggets into 2023 champions.Luka Dončić, whom the Kings passed over in the 2018 NBA Draft in favor of Marvin Bagley III. Dončić, of course, took the Dallas Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals, while Bagley has played on five teams since 2018 and is currently an unrestricted free agent. Tyrese Haliburton, whom the Kings traded before he led the Indiana Pacers to the 2025 NBA Finals.Harrison Barnes, whom the Kings traded before he became a key veteran on the Spurs' 2026 finals team.De'Aaron Fox, whom the Kings traded before he became the starting point guard on the 2026 Spurs.Mike Brown, whom the Kings unceremoniously fired before he led the Knicks to their first finals appearance in over a quarter-century. Woof. That is a tough rap sheet to beat. The worst part for the Kings? Their turmoil has no real end in sight. The Kings' roster clearly doesn't have any real franchise players, and they're only picking seventh in the 2026 NBA Draft. A second consecutive 60-loss campaign next season isn't out of the question. That, on top of, once again, contributing to the NBA Finals with people they traded, fired, or passed over. If you know a Kings fan in your life, give them a hug. They definitely need one. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Kings hilariously helped build both Knicks and Spurs NBA Finals teams

Man City's future looks bright - and Shaw's role is key
Khadija Shaw scored 21 goals in 22 WSL matches for Manchester City this season [Getty Images]Manchester City's domestic double is the start of what they hope will be a hugely successful period for the club - and Khadija Shaw is at the centre of it.For weeks, Shaw's name has dominated the news with her future looking certain to be away from City. However, on Monday, in front of 19,000 fans at the club's celebratory parade, the 29-year-old announced a shock u-turn, and her decision to sign a new four-year deal. Those supporters screamed with happiness at the Co-op Live arena, and shirts bearing her name on the back swarmed Wembley Way before Sunday's Women's FA Cup final. She proved why her signature was the club's most important piece of business this summer by scoring the opening goal in their 4-0 win over Brighton and later assisting Aoba Fujino for City's third.Their FA Cup win - a first since 2020 - came three weeks after City ended rivals Chelsea's six-year stranglehold on the Women's Super League title. It was another sign of their desire for continued success, which manager Andree Jeglertz emphasised afterwards. If they are to achieve that, they need Shaw. "First of all, it's amazing that she thinks our programme is the best way to become a better football player and that this is the right place to win titles," said Jeglertz. "We're happy for that and there should be great credit to the people that were involved in making it happen. "We have Bunny Shaw in our team and we play a certain way to get the best out of her, to put her in these [goalscoring] situations. "She's staying and that is what we want to keep doing with her."After firing Man City to title - is Shaw best striker in WSL history?Shaw signs new Man City deal after contract U-turnRabonas & fake births - Chelsea win World Sevens Shaw 'has been so professional'Khadija Shaw's five FA Cup goals this season made her joint top scorer alongside Chelsea's Sam Kerr [Getty Images]Shaw said after the victory at Wembley that she had been "a bit nervous" about announcing her new deal.Fans had been through an emotional rollercoaster about her leaving, with Chelsea poised to take advantage. But after a long season, in which Shaw scooped up several individual accolades including the WSL Player of the Year and Golden Boot, she relished getting her hands on another piece of silverware."To get the double is a good feeling," Shaw said. "I've always said that Manchester is my home. It took a while, but we finally got [the contract agreement] done."At Wembley, her opener was crucial, coming after Brighton had dominated the first 30 minutes and with City struggling to get a foothold. One moment - a cross into Shaw in the 38th minute - changed the game as the Jamaica striker rose highest to loop a header past goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. That killed Brighton's momentum and captain Alex Greenwood's strike just before half-time gave City a commanding lead.Jeglertz agreed Shaw's goal gave his side "relief" and her assist for Fujino in the second half put City out of sight. A final goal from substitute Vivianne Miedema confirmed victory.Despite the noise over the past month, Shaw has remained their standout performer. She was important in the final, was the matchwinner in the semi-finals and finished the WSL season with a double on final day to reach 21 goals in 22 matches."I'm very impressed with how she handled that [speculation]," said Jeglertz. "She has never showed any mood that has affected her performance. "Of course, she knows about the writings. But at the same time, she has been so professional, always performed and always been a good person."Can City 'evolve' in the future? The challenge now for City is to build on their strong foundations and deliver silverware on a regular basis."Winning the WSL was big for the club but it was one thing being able to win the title, and then just a couple of weeks later to win another title," said Jeglertz."We want to keep having this hunger and dedication to want more and not to be pleased. That will be very important thing for us to not think that anything can be taken for granted. We need to keep this for the next level."City have dominated domestically this year but have been able to do so without the distractions of Champions League football.Their squad depth, which has improved over recent seasons, has depth and youthful talent, but is yet to be fully tested.Former City striker Ellen White believes the club need to be proactive in order to build the dynasty they crave."Manchester City want to be dominant on all fronts so they have to keep evolving. They have to get more players in," White told TNT Sports. "They've tasted [success] now - and will want to be back here next season."It has been a long wait for them to win this, their 10th trophy since going professional in 2014. That is no mean feat. But they need to keep evolving, progressing and finding consistency."Ex-England forward Sue Smith echoed that sentiment, saying next season provides a "different test" for Jeglertz and his squad."They have been able to focus domestically but now have to balance European football and utilise the squad. They will have to adapt," Smith told BBC Radio 5 Live."That's where they want to be - testing themselves against the best teams."[BBC]Listen to Ben Haines, Ellen White and Jen Beattie on the Women's Football Weekly podcast. Cowser HR, 4 RBIs back solid start by Bradish in Orioles' 9-5 victory over Toronto
BALTIMORE (AP) — Kyle Bradish pitched seven innings of four-hit ball, Colton Cowser homered and drove in four runs and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 Sunday.Pete Alonso had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run for the Orioles, who mounted a 6-0 third-inning lead against rookie Spencer Miles (2-1) and coasted to the finish. It was a complete contrast to the first three games of the series, each of which was decided by one run after the winner staged a late comeback. In earning a split, the Orioles completed an uplifting homestand in which they won seven of 10, including a three-game sweep of first-place Tampa Bay.Bradish (3-6) allowed an unearned run, struck out four and walked three. Although it was only his second win since April 8, the right-hander has a 1.72 ERA over his past five starts.Cowser hit a run-scoring groundout in the second inning before Baltimore took control with a five-run fifth. Alonso singled in a run and Samuel Basallo hit an RBI double before Cowser launched a three-run drive to center. The Orioles made it 9-0 in the sixth against Hayden Juenger, making his major debut after being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. The right-hander walked two and gave up two hits in his only inning of work.Yohendrick Piñango hit a three-run homer for Toronto in the eighth.Blue Jays right fielder Jesús Sánchez left the game in the sixth inning with bruised right wrist after apparently being struck by a ball thrown from the bleachers during a stoppage in play. X-rays were negative.Up nextBlue Jays: After taking Monday off, Toronto sends Kevin Guzman (4-3) to the mound in Atlanta on Tuesday night.Orioles: Following a day off Monday, Baltimore starts Shane Baz (2-5) on the road Tuesday night in Boston.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/mlb

Diamondbacks have a huge Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly problem
Diamondbacks have a huge Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly problem originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Arizona Diamondbacks are having a solid 2026 season, with a 31-26 record that's 5.5 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West lead, and is good enough to own a Wild Card spot at the end of May.For as good as things are going overall, there are still some concerning issues with the team, as is the case for every team in Major League Baseball. But, for the Diamondbacks, the big issue with the team is a lot more concerning. As Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report highlighted, the Diamondbacks' biggest issue is veteran starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly. They've both struggled, and this problem, unfortunately, doesn't have a clean fix at all.D-Backs have a Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly problem"Arizona Diamondbacks: The Former Aces," Miller writes. "... At the moment, though, they each have an ERA north of 5.00, with Arizona sitting at .500 in their combined 20 starts."Both of these pitchers returned to the Diamondbacks this offseason on free agent contracts, with Kelly signing for two years at $40 million total with a 2028 vesting option, and Gallen for one year at $16.2 million with deferrals to $22.025M total.Kelly has been better recently, posting a 3.51 ERA in his five starts this May, with two against the struggling San Francisco Giants, and one each against the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Colorado Rockies.MORE: Dodgers still have a Roki Sasaki problemOverall, he has a 5.25 ERA this season and 0.0 bWAR through eight starts. For someone making roughly $20 million per-year, that's not nearly good enough production. But, since he's pitching better as of late, the real problem for the D-Backs is with Gallen.Through 12 starts this season, Gallen has a 5.16 ERA with -0.5 bWAR. Contrary to how Kelly has been great in May, Gallen has collapsed this month. In six outings, Gallen has a terrible 7.04 ERA with 24 runs allowed in 30.2 innings pitched. While Kelly might be heading in the right direction, overall, the D-Backs haven't gotten nearly good enough production from both starters this season.MORE: Giants continue to not start Bryce Eldridge as much as they shouldFor the amount of money they've invested into both, nearly $40 million for 2026 between the two of them, their struggles this season are posing a big problem for Arizona.Miller describes them as "The Former Aces," which is an unfortunately accurate description of both starters. They were once two of the better pitchers in MLB, but in 2026, they've both regressed to mediocre at-best pitchers.Gallen and Kelly combine to form the biggest problem for the D-Backs this season. There's no easy fix, as they can't replace either starter.Arizona will just have to hope that what Kelly has done in May can continue, and that Gallen can recover from a rough start like he did last season.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxChase Burns becomes first Reds pitcher with elite stat line since 1922Mets projected to still sell at trade deadline by ex-MLB GMEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 success

UCF vs. Auburn NCAA baseball tournament game enters weather delay

The latest example: Their contest against Auburn will not begin at 3 p.m. on May 31 as originally intended. No new start time has been decided. The delay was announced just 18 minutes before the scheduled first pitch, as a storm cell approached Plainsman Park from the north. On Friday, UCF encountered two interruptions. Its tilt against North Carolina State was pushed back two hours by rain. Philadelphia 76ers draft rewind: Selecting Evan Turner No. 2 in 2010
With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history. After a tough 2009-10 season, the Sixers entered the draft with the No. 2 overall pick. With that selection, they turned to Ohio State star Evan Turner who had one helluva collegiate career. He averaged 20.4 points in his junior season with the Buckeyes and was named the AP Player of the Year.In his rookie season, Turner averaged 7.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while helping the Sixers make the playoffs. In the 2012 playoff run, Turner averaged 11.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists as he helped the No. 8 seed Sixers upset the top seed Chicago Bulls in Round 1 and push the Boston Celtics to seven games in Round 2. Overall in 3.5 seasons with the Sixers, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds before being sent to the Indiana Pacers at the deadline in the 2013-14 season. He was averaging 17.4 points and 6.0 rebounds in 54 games for Philadelphia that season before the trade to Indiana.Turner also played for the Boston Celtics, the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Atlanta Hawks. He was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves early in the 2019-20 season, but did not suit up for them. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Philadelphia 76ers draft rewind: Selecting Evan Turner No. 2 in 2010

Scott Wiener rages at Rome Pride for banning major LGBTQ+ Jewish org: “Straight up antisemitic”
State Sen. Scott Wiener (D) of California, a gay and Jewish candidate for Congress from San Francisco, is speaking out over a decision by organizers of Rome Pride to bar a major Jewish LGBTQ+ organization from the event because it “failed to distance itself from the ongoing genocide in Gaza.” “This is straight up antisemitic & reflective of Jews being pushed out of progressive spaces unless we meet litmus test standards applied to no one else — only to Jews,” Wiener said in a post to X on Tuesday. “If you’re a ‘good Jew,’ you’re in. If you’re a ‘bad Jew,’ you’re out.” The one-time San Francisco supervisor is running to replace former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Related Kehlani tells ICE agents to delete all her music in fiery Instagram post This is straight up antisemitic & reflective of Jews being pushed out of progressive spaces unless we meet litmus test standards applied to no one else — only to Jews. If you’re a “good Jew,” you’re in. If you’re a “bad Jew,” you’re out. https://t.co/8haemqK6Fg— Senator Scott Wiener (@Scott_Wiener) May 26, 2026 Rome Pride’s decision to bar the group Keshet Italia from the city’s Pride parade is the latest clash between Pride organizers, Jewish LGBTQ+ groups, and supporters of Palestine triggered by the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the Israeli government’s invasion of Gaza that followed. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “We are fully capable of distinguishing between the Israeli government and the Jewish community, made up of both LGBTQIA+ and non-LGBTQIA+ people, and we could never attribute to the latter responsibility for the criminal acts of war carried out by a genocidal government,” Rome Pride said in a statement explaining its decision. “We do, however, hold Keshet Italia responsible for having failed, and continue to fail, to distance itself from the ongoing genocide in Gaza.” Keshet Italia responded by saying, “Roma Pride has shown its true colors. Our crime? To be Jewish.” “This is just the last step on a hostile path,” the group added. “Last year, during the parade, we received explicit antisemitic attacks, and the Roma Pride chose to remain silent, refusing to condemn them. Today, that silence has become active complicity.” Pride organizations have responded with support for different sides in the conflict, revealing a fraught debate with conflicting allegiances as the groups try to navigate the repercussions of the October 7 attacks and the longtime opposition to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories. In 2024 in Australia, just months after the Israeli government’s full-scale invasion of Gaza, the anti-Zionist group Pride in Protest called members of Dayenu, Sydney’s Jewish LGBTQ+ group, “proud of genocide and the mass murder of children.” Both marched that year and in 2025. But following last December’s terrorist attack at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, Mardi Gras organizers banned Pride in Protest from the parade hours before it started over posts using inflammatory language on social media. Officials cited a breach of the group’s code of conduct. In Belgium this month, Brussels Pride announced it would bar Jewish LGBTQ+ group Mazel Pride from displaying the Star of David or using the word “Jewish” on banners and other signage as a condition to take part in the parade, citing safety concerns.“The message we ultimately receive is that our presence is acceptable only if it is not too visible,” the group responded, even while agreeing to the request. Weeks later, Belgium Pride reversed its decision and dropped the no-signage condition. In 2024, Keshet UK withdrew from the London Pride parade unilaterally, saying they lacked support from organizers to ensure marchers’ safety. “We shared our concerns in a spirit of open dialogue, and made reasonable requests, including antisemitism awareness training for the stewards,” the group said. “Our requests were turned down.” Two years later, London Pride, now under new leadership, has agreed to antisemitism awareness training, and Keshet UK is returning to the march. All of the controversies surrounding Jewish LGBTQ+ groups and Pride celebrations involve accusations that conflate opposition to the Israeli government’s actions with antisemitism. In the United States last year, San Diego Pride’s invitation to Kehlani, a vocal supporter of Palestine, was met with outrage by Jewish LGBTQ+ groups, who accused the nonbinary singer of calling for violence against Jews with the message, “Long live the Intifada” in the music video for her song “Next 2 U.” The invitation followed Cornell University’s decision to drop the singer from a year-end celebration on campus, which was accompanied by an explicit charge of antisemitism by the school’s president, Michael I. Kotlikoff. “I have heard grave concerns from our community that many are angry, hurt, and confused” that Cornell “would feature a performer who has espoused antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments in performances, videos, and on social media. “While any artist has the right in our country to express hateful views,” Kotlikoff wrote, Cornell’s event “is about uniting our community, not dividing it.” “I am not antisemitic, nor anti-Jew,” the queer artist responded in an Instagram post a few days later. “I am anti-genocide. I am anti the actions of the Israeli government, I am anti the extermination of an entire people, I am anti the bombing of innocent children, men, women — that’s what I’m anti.” Temple Emanu-El of San Diego didn’t buy the defense. “No one gets to tell Jews what is and is not antisemitic,” said member Laura Stratton. But organizers stuck with Kehlani, despite opposition from the city’s gay mayor, Todd Gloria, and an announced boycott of her performance by local Jewish LGBTQ+ groups. “We made this decision after having engaged with community and religious leaders on both sides,” a spokesperson for the group said. “Ultimately, we came to the conclusion that removing Kehlani from the program would go against our fundamental belief in individual free speech, a cornerstone of our democratic system.” The group cited the Trump administration “aggressively trying to silence our community” as part of their reasoning. In April, San Diego Pride addressed the breach. The group announced that they, too, would institute antisemitic prevention training, in service of “repair work” with the Jewish community. Chet Holmgren acknowledges being 'out of rhythm,' missing 'opportunities' to get up shots against Victor Wembanyama, Spurs
A day after Oklahoma City’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals, Thunder star Chet Holmgren acknowledged the obvious: He wasn’t active enough in the series or in Game 7.Holmgren hoisted just two field-goal attempts in Saturday’s Game 7 loss. He finished 1 for 2 from the field with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks and 2 turnovers. He didn’t take a shot after Oklahoma City’s fourth possession of the game. For the series, Holmgren averaged 7.3 field-goal attempts per game, four fewer than his average of 11.3 per game during the regular season. He didn’t eclipse that average in a single game against San Antonio; his 10 attempts from the floor in Game 2 marked the only time he reached double figures. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentHolmgren averaged 10.7 points per game against the Spurs, well below his regular-season average of 17.1 during an All-NBA campaign.Holmgren acknowledges ‘area to improve’On Sunday, Thunder players including Holmgren conducted end-of-season media availability. Holmgren was asked about his low volume of offensive output throughout the series. He admitted that he missed “opportunities” on offense. “I think part of it was being closed out heavy to and then also kind of being a little bit out of rhythm at times.” Holmgren said. “I feel like there were definitely opportunities to get more attempts up that I didn't in the moment. That's an area to improve.”Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama impacted every Thunder player on the floor with his length and defensive presence — but none more so than Holmgren. Holmgren tacitly acknowledged Wembanyama’s impact without saying the Spurs center’s name.“I definitely think they’re different, in terms of, I don’t think there’s another team that has their play style, their personnel, Holmgren continued. “They’re unique in that way.“You can’t just kind of play, like a base, normal this is what we kind of do on an average Tuesday night type of thing. They way you have to attack it is look at the film and look at the way you can improve and then work on the things you need to work on to be ready for any night no matter who you play.”Indeed, getting up shots against Wembanyama isn’t an “average Tuesday night type of thing.” And it’s something the Thunder are going to have to figure for the long run as the Spurs figure to stand in their way in the Western Conference playoffs for years to come. Holmgren, meanwhile, is a considerable part of Oklahoma City’s long-term plans as it looks to add more hardware after securing the franchise’s first NBA championship last season. He’s approaching the first year of a five-year, $239.3 million max contract extension he signed after last season’s title run.If he wants to be a part of Oklahoma City's future title hopes, he’s going to have to figure out a way to solve Victor Wembanyama.

Twins GM Jeremy Zoll taking time to deal SP Joe Ryan
Twins GM Jeremy Zoll taking time to deal SP Joe Ryan originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Minnesota Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll still has some time. Not much. But, on the eve of June, and with the Twins entering Sunday as one of seven clubs within 2.5 games of the second AL Wild Card seed, Zoll could wisely hold on to starting pitcher Joe Ryan, one of MLB's top deadline trade candidates, for a while longer.Scheduled to start against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field on Monday, Ryan (3-3) has delivered four consecutive quality starts, posting a 1.75 earned-run average during that span. Along with injured catcher Ryan Jeffers, Ryan could prove to be Zoll's top trade chip. When it comes to the potential of trading Ryan, the Twins (27-32), who had dropped four straight entering Sunday, could be immediately left with rotational depth concerns on the major-league level.Tick ... tick ... tick ...Twins' Joe Ryan to get start against White Sox on MondayAny potential deal for Ryan could have gotten tougher. The Twins on Saturday designated starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment. The Twins were 1-9 in games started by Woods Richardson and 26-21 when others started at the time of his release. The Twins recalled right-hander John Klein from Triple-A St. Paul to replace Woods Richardson. A Minnesota native, Klein made his big-league debut May 2, appearing in three games. He's expected to serve a multi-inning relief role during his second MLB stint. He pitched two scoreless innings during Saturday's 10-9 loss to the Pirates.Rebounding from two rough starts in April, totaling 12 runs, Ryan rebounded to record a 2.94 ERA with 70 strikeouts and a 0.93 WHIP in 64.1 innings.Pitching on a $6.2 million deal, Ryan will be arbitration-eligible for 2027. On the eve of June baseball, contenders will soon start calling Zoll, if they're not already. He still has some time to decide if the Twins can continue to challenge for the postseason and whether the system has enough depth to absorb the absence of another starter. Is time starting to run out?More MLB news:Marlins could find Pete Fairbanks' trade market shrinking with widening ERAOrioles' Taylor Ward scores historic, game-winning run, remains top trade candidateAstros GM Dana Brown contemplating trading Isaac ParedesDodgers' Shohei Ohtani blasts friend Tomoyuki Sugano, flirts with Rockies no-hitter, matches Don Drysdale
