How Oregon baseball's pitching staff set the table in Eugene Regional
It hasn't always looked as smooth as the No. 11 Oregon baseball team's starting pitching staff made working through innings look in the NCAA Eugene Regional. The Ducks (43-16, 20-10 Big Ten) went a perfect 3-0 with wins against Yale, Washington State and in-state rival Oregon State over a raucous weekend at PK Park to advance to their third super regional in four years, mostly thanks to the strength of its pitching staff. In three victories, Oregon gave up just four runs. In those same three wins, all against good offenses, the Ducks' starting trio of Cal Scolari, Will Sanford and Miles Gosztola allowed just one run over 16 2/3 of the possible 27 innings available while striking out 27."The pitching we’ve seen in this regional has been special," coach Mark Wasikowski said. All three have had their challenges to overcome over the last few seasons, and even this year. But all three dominated when given the chance this weekend.Scolari, a transfer from San Diego who followed his pitching coach, Matt Florer, to Oregon, has been in and out as a starter but lights out in recent weeks. The redshirt sophomore issued a few walks that put runners on the bases against a scrappy Yale team but didn't allow a run in 4 1/2 innings pitched of an 14-2 victory.Sanford got the ball next and didn't allow Washington State to do anything in a 4-0 Ducks win, striking out 14 in a career-best performance after a rocky freshman season a year before.Gosztola, a Gonzaga transfer, admitted earlier in the season a crowd like the one at PK Park would have affected him in a negative way. But thanks to Florer and Wasikowski, it fueled him instead.Wasikowski said Florer's impact on his pitching staff has been evident since the moment he arrived."He’s got the buy-in of the players and his personality is really one that embraces others," Wasikowski said of Florer, Oregon's first-year pitching coach. "He’s a great communicator and him and (director of pitching development) Dan Straily have just been marvelous for our pitchers."After the implosion at the 2025 Eugene Regional, when the nationally seeded Ducks went 0-2 in front of thousands at PK Park, and a long history of up-and-down pitching in the postseason, Oregon's starters set the tone all weekend in three dominant showings."It looked like they were commanding the fast ball, throwing a secondary pitch for a strike and getting it out of the zone when they needed to and their mentality was tremendous," Wasikowski said. Perhaps no pitcher on Oregon's staff encapsulates its growth like Gosztola, who has featured this season in a variety of roles and admitted he had several deficiencies at the start of the season. Along with his command in high-leverage moments and with big crowds, Gosztola also struggled with containing the opposing team's run game. In a huge sequence in the sixth inning of Oregon's win over Oregon State, Gosztola held off a Beaver runner at first and struck out Jacob Galloway to end an inning unscathed."Miles, I challenged a few weeks ago to quit acting good, because he’s not good, he’s great and he needed to act that way," Wasikowski said. "I think they did this weekend for sure and down the stretch they’ve been outstanding. We got tremendous pitching in the Big Ten tournament. Even before that, you can just see it coming together in the momentum of the team is one that I’m really thankful that we’re getting this blessing to be able to continue to play and be around these guys every single day."The challenge will be amplified against No. 6 Texas in the super regional round, just two wins away from Oregon's first Men's College World Series appearance in over half a century. But Wasikowski believes this group has more in the tank."I just feel like we haven’t even reached our potential yet," Wasikowski said. "That’s when you just want to really dig in with the guys and be with them more."Alec Dietz covers University of Oregon football and women’s basketball for The Register-Guard. Ken Paxton’s first campaign ad calls James Talarico “too low-T” while avoiding policy issues
Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s Senate campaign released its first ad, which is fixated on state Rep. James Talarico’s (D) gender, calling him “too low-T for Texas.” And Donald Trump himself joined in the attacks, referring to Talarico as “this transgender” in comments The ad does not address policy issues like the economy, and even its brief mention of immigration is in service of calling Talarico feminine. Instead, it highlights quotes from Talarico that show his support for LGBTQ+ rights, his sympathy for vegans (even though he himself is not a vegan), and his support for trans kids in particular. Republicans have already been using those quotes to imply that Talarico is himself gay or transgender. Related Donald Trump’s contempt for female journalists is indicative of a much larger problem “Radical Talarico: Too low-T for Texas,” the ad, which is produced by the Paxton campaign, declares at the end. “Low T” is an expression from certain parts of the right-wing internet that means “low testosterone” and is used to insult men for not being masculine enough. Talarico is cisgender, straight, and has a girlfriend. Republicans have no knowledge about his testosterone levels, and testosterone doesn’t determine whether someone is vegan or supports LGBTQ+ rights. This is Texas, and we will fight to protect it. pic.twitter.com/7bI9jti6Gz— Attorney General Ken Paxton (@KenPaxtonTX) May 27, 2026 Last week, White House advisor Stephen Miller said that Talarico is “transgender” as an insult several times, hammering what will likely be the Republicans’ central message in the campaign. Miller specifically said that Talarico is “transitioning to a woman” and “doesn’t belong in the Senate but in a cabaret show.” Miller even compared Talarico to Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), saying that his testosterone levels are lower than hers. Crockett is a Black woman, and Talarico is a white man. On Fox News last Friday, host Jesse Watters -who has a long history of discussing his personal insecurities with masculinity on air – suggested that Talarico wears women’s underwear, calling him “low-T Talafreako.” Republicans have been calling Talarico a “freak” and a “creep,” insults they often use against LGBTQ+ people. “I have questions I want reporters to ask low T Talafreako,” Watters said. “Does James Talarico even own a gun? Is James Talarico a Cowboys fan? A Houston Texans fan? Does he even know the Spurs are playing tonight?” “Has Talarico ever even been to a football game or is he more of a World Cup guy?” Watters continued, likely drawing on the stereotype that real American men love football while soccer fans are effeminate Europhiles. “Does Talarico own a truck? Does he believe in premarital sex? Does he wear women’s underwear?” “These are things local reporters should be pressing him on!” Watters concluded. Watters: I have questions I want reporters to ask low T Talarico:Do you own a gun? Are you a Cowboys fan? Does he know the Spurs are playing tonight? Does he own a truck? Barcelona unlock major financial boost after finalising €11 million transfer – report
Barcelona unlock major financial boost after finalising €11 million transfer – reportAccording to SPORT, Barcelona are set to receive a significant financial boost after Ansu Fati’s permanent transfer to AS Monaco, with the operation expected to help the club comply with La Liga’s 1:1 rule. The deal marks the end of Ansu’s long association with the club and could have important consequences beyond the player’s departure. Along with the transfer fee, Barcelona will also remove a sizeable salary from their wage bill, creating valuable room for future business. For a club that has spent several years under financial restrictions, the development could prove crucial ahead of the remainder of the summer window.Barcelona gain financial breathing roomAs reported before, Monaco have decided to activate the agreed purchase option and will pay €11 million to secure Ansu’s services on a permanent basis.Barcelona are expected to operate within the 1:1 rule. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)Furthermore, the Spanish forward has also agreed to adapt his salary conditions in order to continue his career in Ligue 1, helping facilitate the operation. It must be noted that Ansu was still under contract until 2028, meaning his departure removes a long-term salary commitment from the club’s books. The combination of the transfer income and wage savings is expected to be enough for Barcelona to satisfy the requirements needed to return to the 1:1 rule.Interestingly, that would allow the club to register signings and manage transfers with far greater flexibility than in previous windows.Exit was plannedThe report adds that Barcelona had already decided there was no place for the Spaniard in Hansi Flick’s first-team plans, despite the player’s encouraging performances during his spell in France.Ansu Fati will permanently join AS Monaco. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)Although Ansu initially hoped for one final opportunity to prove himself at Camp Nou, the club’s position remained unchanged, leading his representatives to complete negotiations with Monaco. While €11 million is a useful injection of funds, the real significance of the deal lies in its impact on Barcelona’s financial planning. The club’s transfer strategy has been affected by La Liga’s financial regulations, making player registrations and new signings more complicated than desired.Hence, returning to the 1:1 rule would represent a major step forward, as it would give Barcelona greater freedom to pursue targets without facing the same restrictions that have complicated previous transfer windows.

India takes down giant Messi statue over safety concerns
A giant statue of Argentine football star Lionel Messi was taken down in the Indian city of Kolkata after it was spotted swaying in the wind (Dibyangshu SARKAR)A giant statue of football superstar Lionel Messi was taken down in India on Monday after it was spotted swaying dangerously in the wind, authorities said.Hydraulic cranes and ropes were used to dismantle the 21-metre (70-foot) sculpture in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal state, before it was taken away on an open-top flatbed truck, AFP journalists saw."The statue was removed on Monday afternoon after locals complained it was swaying in the wind," state lawmaker Sharadwat Mukherjee told AFP.Mukherjee said the statue would be kept in a government warehouse while authorities decide on a new location. The gold-coloured statue, depicting the 38-year-old Argentina and Inter Miami star lifting the World Cup trophy, was unveiled in December during Messi's much-publicised GOAT tour of India.Messi will captain Argentina at the upcoming World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The statue drew scrutiny as political power shifted in West Bengal, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party swept into office last month after defeating the opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC).The statue was reportedly designed under the patronage of former chief minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee, and was criticised by the new BJP sports minister Nisith Pramanik as "unsightly".India, a nation of 1.4 billion people, is a cricket powerhouse but has long struggled on the international football stage, and is 142nd in the FIFA rankings.Football, however, is the country's second-favourite sport, according to recent research by data company Nielsen.str-sai/abh/pbt

Jets sign 31-year-old former Falcons history-making Pro Bowler
Jets sign 31-year-old former Falcons history-making Pro Bowler originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New York Jets made an interesting signing last Wednesday. The struggling AFC franchise reportedly brought on board a 31-year-old former Atlanta Falcons history-making Pro Bowler (he set the record for the longest made field goal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in September of 2024).“BREAKING: The#Jets are signing K Younghoe Koo,” SNY’s Connor Hughes reported on X/Twitter. “Koo spent seven years with the Falcons, where he was a Pro Bowler in 2020. Last year kicked for both Atlanta and the 9New York) Giants. He was 6 of 9 on FGs, 13 of 14 on PATs.”After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, Koo inked a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. Koo, who was Los Angeles’ starter to begin the 2017-18 campaign, was cut by the organization after four contests (he drilled three of his six field goals and all of his extra points on the then 0-4 Chargers). After failing to find consistent work in the big leagues for a little over two years, Koo latched on with the Falcons in 2019 and made his mark with the Super Bowl-less NFC South organization. The Georgia Southern product connected on at least 86% of his field goals and only missed seven extra points during his first five seasons with the Falcons. Unfortunately for Koo, his production declined shortly after, compelling Atlanta to release him three weeks into the 2025-26 campaign.Koo spent the rest of the season with the Giants, finishing with a 66.7% field goal percentage and a 91.6% extra point percentage. Given the 31-year-old’s experience and high level of success, he should be well-positioned to win the starting job with the Jets this year.More NFL: Steelers blockbuster trade rumor could lead to massive deal with EaglesBears named landing spot for $123 million 115-sack Steelers star LBEagles named top landing spot for former Cowboys $21 million starter

Smiles and stars: MayeDay Charity Softball Game hits home run
WORCESTER, Mass — Smiles filled the faces of every single person at Polar Park on Sunday night as fans watched on as many Boston legends took part in Drake and Ann Michael Maye's inaugural MayeDay Charity Softball Game. Among those who were taking part were Patriots legend Julian Edelman, all of the star quarterback's brothers, Bruins legend Zdeno Chara, Boston Fleet stars Megan Keller and Jill Saulnier, comedian Matt Rife, and so many more. The event benefited the MayeDay Family Foundation, with funds going to Boston Children’s Hospital, and fans truly showed their love, with it being a sold-out game.“They’ve embraced us since I got drafted,” Maye told reporters. “I really love these fans, love playing for them. I love getting to meet them... I think it shows when you bring some energy back to the city and all sports, how much this city loves sports."Ann Michael echoed her husband's sentiments. “It’s all been such a whirlwind. I feel like everything happened so, so fast. I mean, I was literally in college two years ago today, probably,” she said with a smile. "We’ve grown to love this place in a short amount of time. So it’s awesome to see something like this, such a great turnout. How our idea on a whim kind of turned into something so cool. It’s awesome.”Home run derbyFirst up was the home run derby, which numerous players took part in. And to make it even better, Drake and Ann Michael Maye donated $1,000 for each home run hit. Will Campbell kicked things off, finishing with five home runs, as did San Jose Sharks star and Lexington native Will Smith. Edelman and Christian Gonzalez both had four, while Mack Hollins and Dave Portnoy each had one. And then, there was Chara, who ended with zero. As for Drake Maye, he finished with six home runs, and his brother Cole recorded three of his own. That led to the finals, which were between Maye, Smith, and Campbell. The offensive tackle finished in third with six home runs in the finals, while Maye and Smith both recorded nine. However, Maye gave the trophy to Smith, who was officially crowned the champion. And with that, by the end, it was a total of 54 home runs for $54,000. Golden arm competitionAfter the home run derby, those who hadn't participated in that took part in the Golden Arm Competition. There, each person was given five chances to throw the ball and knock down three bats at first base. The distance was roughly 180 feet, and the players certainly struggled.Tight end Hunter Henry started things off and went 0-for-5, but he wasn't the only one, as Maye's brothers Luke and Beau, comedian Matt Rife, Seattle Kraken forward Matty Beniers, linebacker Robert Spillane, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs also didn't hit the bat. Wide receiver DeMario Douglas was able to break the streak, going 1-for-5, as did safety Brenden Schooler and punter Bryce Baringer. That led to a throw-off, with all three continuing to throw the ball at the bats until one knocked it over. In the end, it was Douglas who hoisted the trophy.Softball classicTeam Sox: Brenden Schooler, Dave Portnoy, Matt Rife, Will Smith, Matty Beniers, Tommy DeVito, Marcus Jones, Mack Hollins, Robert Spillane, Jared Wilson, Julian Edelman, Jack Westover, Christian Gonzalez (captain)Team Patriots: Will Campbell, Beau Maye, Cole Maye, Luke Maye, Megan Keller, Jill Saulnier, Mike Onwenu, Hunter Henry, DeMario Douglas, Rhamondre Stevenson, Romeo Doubs, Zdeno Chara, Mike Vrabel, Drake and Ann Michael Maye (co-captains)...Plus a special appearance by wide receiver Efton Chism on Team Patriots. The game would last seven innings, with each team either getting three outs or going through their entire lineup each half-inning. And to up the ante, Drake and Ann Michael Maye announced that they would donate $2,500 to Boston Children's for each home run hit. But despite Maye admitting he might have loaded up his team (Team Patriots), it was Team Sox who came out on top, winning 17-16. However, what mattered most was the money raised, as the players hit a combined 70 home runs through all the activities for $94,000. Drake and Ann Michael also presented an $80,000 check to Boston Children's Hospital before the game, while giving a $5,000 check to a local high school. And Maye's teammates were so happy to be a part of it.“We have each other’s backs on and off the field, simple as that,” Stevenson said. “Any time we can all get together outside of football, it’s always a fun time.”It was truly a night to remember as Drake and Ann Michael did such an incredible job raising money for a great cause. Browns' Myles Garrett trade cost revealed
Browns' Myles Garrett trade cost revealed originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Cleveland Browns still haven't won much of anything with Myles Garrett. He just set the single-season NFL sacks record, and the Browns were still bad. Welcome to professional football on the shorts of Lake Erie in the last quarter-century.Because of that, Garrett is a bit of a perennial trade candidate. Is this the year? How about now?The reality is that as the calendar flips to June, a trade becomes more likely. After June 1, the Browns could trade Garrett and split up his dead cap hit over two seasons. If they had done it earlier this offseason, the dead money would've all counted against the 2026 cap.So procedurally, a Garrett trade is now more possible. The Athletic's Zac Jackson also wrote in a new article on Monday that it seems like a legitimate possibility.Jackson goes so far as to lay out what it might cost.MORE: Jason Kelce says the NFL is ruining its most valuable assetMyles Garrett trade costGarrett would likely cost multiple first-round picks in a trade, at least."If they can find a team that’s willing to give two first-round picks plus something else of substance, absolutely," Jackson wrote. "Garrett’s value almost certainly will never be higher than it is now, and multiple contending teams might at least explore giving up future assets for a chance to get Garrett now."Jackson then wonders if Cleveland could ask for even more:"Would any of them actually give up three first-round picks? Or two first-rounders plus a young player the Browns covet? That’s hard to say, but interested teams have known of Garrett’s March contract modification since it happened. The biggest hurdle might be the Browns’ actually finding what they believe is maximum proper value for moving on from such a dominant player, but acquiring premium draft assets for 2027 (and potentially 2028 and ’29) would give the Browns necessary flexibility and a clearer road map in their ongoing roster remake."Clearly, Garrett wouldn't come cheap. The Browns won't want to trade him for minimal value. But whether or not he moves this offseason could come down to whether someone is willing to pay a steep cost.More NFL news:The Aaron Rodgers problem no one is talking about for the SteelersCommanders, Brandon Aiyuk are waiting for the same thingLamar Jackson has an obvious reason not to sign right nowCould the Bosa brothers join forces?Saints still waiting for Cameron Jordan news

“His brain is toast”: Trump appears to believe James Talarico is literally transgender
Republicans have been making jokes about Senate candidate and Texas state Rep. James Talarico (D) being transgender, gay, and “low-T” this past week, an attempt to paint him as too queer for public office, even though he’s a straight, cisgender man. But people online are questioning whether Donald Trump is in on the joke or if he actually believes that Talarico is transgender. Related White House official says James Talarico has less testosterone than a Black woman “They won’t, you know, this transgender, this guy running in Texas, he says there are six genders,” Trump told Fox’s Jesse Watters in an interview that aired over the weekend. While White House advisor Stephen Miller said that Talarico is “transitioning to a woman” last week, it was clear from his tone that he meant it as a transphobic insult. With Trump, though, people are wondering if he actually believes that Talarico is trans. His brain is toast.— Nan (@BeTrueVoteBlue1) May 30, 2026 The really scary thing is. Trump believes this stuff. Trump admitted in the interview that he only talks about trans issues to win votes. The president of the United States is calling a man transgender because he doesn’t like him. A shocking upset by St. Mary’s on Friday sent UCLA baseball to the loser’s bracket of the Los Angeles Regional. The Bruins and Gaels met once again in an elimination game on Sunday, and St. Mary’s found a way to pull off another upset over UCLA to eliminate the No. 1 overall seed from the NCAA Tournament. Report Parma buy Cremaschi from Inter Miami for €4m after loanParma are reportedly set to activate their €4m option to buy USMNT talent Benja Cremaschi outright from Inter Miami. The creative midfielder turned 21 in March and arrived in Serie A last summer on loan with an option to make it permanent. At the time, it was suggested that clause was worth €4.5m, but now transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano maintains the cost of the operation will be closer to €4m.Injury stalled Cremaschi progressFORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – JULY 26: Benjamin Cremaschi #30 of Inter Miami CF looks on during the MLS match between Inter Miami CF and FC Cincinnati at Chase Stadium on July 26, 2025 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Caring For The ‘Clay’ Of Roland Garros
Sweeping the clay on Court Suzanne-Lenglen at Roland Garros in Paris. (Photo by JULIEN DE ROSA/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty ImagesWhat we call the clay of Roland Garros offers a slightly more complex definition. Each of the courts at the Paris tennis major feature five distinct layers and none have any actual clay involved in the crafting of the famous red-hued tennis court surface. The courts of Roland Garros have been roughly the same since their initial creation in 1928 and now each of the 18 courts feature five layers: a layer of stone, a layer of gravel, clinker, limestone and all topped with a dusting of crushed red brick. Each of the courts features the same construction to ensure consistent play across the site. And each layer serves a distinct purpose. The bottom two layers of stone and roughly a foot of crushed gravel allow for proper drainage. The middle layer of about three inches of clinker—a coal or volcanic residue—helps retain moisture so the top layers don’t crack. The second layer from the top of 2.5 inches of crushed limestone offers stability for the players. It is all topped with just over half an inch of crushed red brick that not only provides the playability of the courts that slow the ball but also give the surface its famous red color. Bruno Slastan, who has spent 36 years prepping the playing surface at Roland Garros, once told me that getting the facility’s competitions and practice courts ready for the tournaments requires special attention to the top two layers. Each year, crews rework the white limestone layer and haul in 88,000 pounds of broken brick, but only during completely dry weather, to refresh each of the courts. A staff member prepares the surface of the Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros in Paris. (Photo by JULIEN DE ROSA/AFP via Getty Images) AFP via Getty Images“The thickness of materials are respected,” he said. “That is very important. We strive our hardest to achieve perfection.” Care for the courts is constant throughout the tournament. It takes eight staff to prepare a court for play and the roughly 100 members of the crew caring for the courts maintain them during matches. Courts are continually dragged, swept, brushed and lightly watered during the day. In the evening, when play has finished, each court is thoroughly watered. MORE: How Does Wimbledon Maintain Its Grass Courts?By watering the court, the brick retains its color and doesn’t blow away. Slastan said the courts need the water and after the nightly dousing, the courts are covered for the night. Each morning, when the crews peel back the covers, courts are scraped to “standardize the broken brick” and calcium chloride is added to the surface to encourage the brick to stay wet and retain its red color. Each tournament, the brick slowly fades from the courts, blown about by the wind or tracked back to the lockerroom on the shoes, socks and clothing of the players. Roland Garros crews use another roughly 11,000 pounds of the brick during the tournament to fill in gaps as needed across the tournament site. The careful care of the Roland Garros courts ensures there’s plenty of crushed red brick on hand, even if clay gets all the credit for the work of limestone and brick. Hayden girls soccer becomes 3rd team in Kansas history to end season undefeated
WICHITA — It was a championship journey full of twists and turns. It all culminated with Hayden girls soccer lifting the Class 4-1A State Championship on Saturday, May 30. The Wildcats defeated Rose Hill 1-0 to win the title for the first time since 2015. It's the program's fourth state championship, all of them coming under head coach Klaus Kreutzer. For the third time in Kansas history, a team finished the year undefeated without any ties. The Wildcats’ record was finalized at 21-0-0.“I couldn’t have imagined it," Kreutzer said. “Going undefeated was never on my radar. It's nothing that I ever considered. It's pretty amazing for them. I didn’t do anything; they did all of the work."Washburn Rural baseball: Class 6A State Championship 74 years in the makingAfter a scoreless first half, Hayden’s lone goal came in the opening two minutes of the second half. It was almost a carbon copy of the goal in Hayden's semifinal victory over Bishop Miege. Avery Becker whipped in a cross from the right wing. The ball floated above the Rose Hill keeper.Carsyn Broxterman was the first to meet the ball. Just like her goal against the Stags, Broxterman chested the ball into the wide open net. The Wildcats have thrived all season in set pieces and scoring from wide possessions. When they needed a goal, Hayden went to their bread-and-butter. Silver Lake softball: Nick Hamilton, Silver Lake softball reach state championship mountain top“We've been doing it all year. We've been connecting. Our chemistry on the field is amazing,” Broxterman said. “Having this great team atmosphere brings all of the pieces together.”Once Hayden took the lead, momentum completely swung in the Rockets’ favor. Hayden had to block shot after shot. The Wildcats’ stout defense was up for the challenge, thwarting any opportunity. As the final horn blared, Hayden’s players threw their arms around each other in jubilation. It was a moment that every player has dreamed of since losing in double overtime of the state title game last season. Throughout the year, the Wildcats have called the 2026 season their revenge tour. With the hardware, the team accomplished its mission.Due to weather, the state championship game was moved indoors at Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita. The game also started two hours after the original kick-off time due to a penalty shootout in the previous game. “We were not very excited about that," Broxterman smiled. “We were ready for anything. We were not going to let this take us out at all. We came and gave it our best."The late start and different playing venue were unexpected, but Hayden was not going to let it ruin the chance at glory. Instead of making excuses, the Wildcats wrote themselves into the history books. “This is a special group that has a lot of team chemistry,” Kreutzer said. "It's been quite a ride.”Liam Keating covers high school sports and Washburn University athletics for The Topeka Capital-Journal. Serena Williams’ tennis comeback: Her first tournament and what comes next
Editor’s note: This explainer has been updated June 1, 2026, to reflect news of Serena Williams’ return to professional tennis.Serena Williams, considered by many the greatest women’s tennis player of all time, will return to tennis with a women’s doubles wild card into Queen’s, the prestigious grass-court tournament played ahead of Wimbledon.Williams, 44, will compete on the WTA Tour for the first time in nearly four years. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) listed Williams, 44, on its roster of reinstated tennis players, with an eligibility date of Feb. 22, 2026, last year. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion initially denied a return to the sport, after appearing in a tennis anti-doping pool, but has since softened her position, refusing to rule out a tennis comeback during an interview with “Today” in January. But which tournaments could Williams play in? Would she partner with her sister Venus, the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion with whom she won 14 major doubles titles and three Olympic golds, who has also recently returned? And what has she had to do to make a tennis return possible?Where is Serena Williams making her tennis comeback?Williams’ first tournament back will be the women’s doubles at Queen’s in southwest London, which begins June 8. Williams is set to play with Victoria Mboko, the 19-year-old Canadian.Whether or not Williams will use that tournament as a launchpad to play Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year and one that she has won seven times, remains to be seen.“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter,” Williams said in a statement.“Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”The announcement ends a gradual shift in Williams from a definitive “no,” to non-committal, to returning to the sport. When Williams’ name was seen in the tennis anti-doping pool last December, Williams posted on X: “Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”But during an interview on “Today” in January, Williams was offered the chance to put the possibility of her return to bed. Instead, she laughed and responded: “If I want to put it to bed … Listen, I want to go to bed — it’s early.”On both occasions, representatives for Williams did not respond to a request for comment. Then, Feb. 19, Williams posted a cryptic TikTok in which she practiced serves alone on a tennis court for, she said, the first time since 2023.By reentering the testing pool, and in so doing subjecting herself to tennis’ whereabouts rules, which include accepting the possibility of random drug testing, and remaining in a certain place for an hour a day, Williams gave a huge indication that she is, at the very least, keeping the option open of a comeback. Actively teasing practice videos only deepens that possibility. She has practiced with Alycia Parks, a fellow American player, and was looking to return as early as last year’s U.S. Open, according to a report in Bounces. At that time, she had not completed the six months in the anti-doping testing pool required by the ITIA for returning players.Various players told The Athletic last year of the (necessary) strain that tennis’ anti-doping rules puts on them, so it would be an extremely strange move to subject oneself to them unnecessarily. The strong suspicion is that Williams’ denials and deflections are more because she wants to make any comeback announcement on her own terms. In August 2022, Williams gave a news conference after beating Nuria Párrizas Díaz in the Canadian Open, in which she gave no indication that she was about to announce her retirement. The following day, Williams did exactly that in a first-person piece for “Vogue.”How will she enter tournaments? With wild cards. There is no protected ranking for players who have left the sport, and so Williams’ participation, at least until she builds up her ranking, will be at the discretion of the tournaments she wishes to enter.Given her status in the game, she is likely to have absolutely no issue getting a wild card wherever she wants. And smaller tournaments will likely be queuing up to offer her hefty appearance fees to play at their events. How is she preparing for a possible comeback?Williams still plays tennis regularly at her home in Florida, and world No. 77 Parks told Tennis Majors on Saturday that she had recently practiced with her. Parks added: “She is in great shape. So I think she would kill it on tour.”Williams has also spoken about the benefit of taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs since she retired from tennis — more on those later. When you love something come rain or shine you find a way to enjoy and keep doing it 🥰🥰 pic.twitter.com/ZiNvggzhnW— Serena Williams (@serenawilliams) December 28, 2024Will she play singles or doubles, and who with?It had been unclear whether Williams would go straight into singles, or look to smooth the transition by playing doubles first. She has alighted on the latter route at Queen’s, before confirming whether or not she might receive a wild card of any kind into Wimbledon. There is some precedent for the latter, with Williams opting to just play the doubles at the Eastbourne Open in England in June 2022 as she returned to the sport after a year out with injury, before returning to singles action at Wimbledon a week later. On that occasion in Eastbourne, Williams teamed up with Ons Jabeur. What do retired tennis players have to do to return to tennis? The main obstacle was reentering the anti-doping pool for six months, which Williams completed Feb. 22. She will then need to remain in the pool, and give her daily whereabouts to the ITIA.Then it’s a case of trying to clamber up the rankings ladder again — although that’s less relevant for Williams, who will be given wildcards whenever she wants them. Why did she reenter the tennis anti-doping pool?Either to return to tennis, to keep the option open of returning to tennis, or because she enjoys updating her daily whereabouts and the prospect of a drugs tester ringing on her doorbell at 6 a.m. asking for a urine sample. Why would she want to come back to tennis?Largely because she can, and at 44 surely won’t be able to for much longer. Williams still hits regularly, and will have seen how competitive Venus, now 45, has been on her return to the sport over the last seven months. Why not see if she can be even more so? Especially when her Grand Slam tally of 23 remains one behind Novak Djokovic and Margaret Court’s record, and when she is of the view that she can compete against today’s top players on the women’s tour.Williams always left the door open for a return — speaking of “evolving away” from tennis rather than retiring when announcing her farewell in 2022 — and with her children a little older, at 8 and 3, she may see this as the right moment and last opportunity. Williams has proven herself the master of the comeback before — returning to the sport after serious injury to win Slams previously, and reaching four major finals after giving birth in September 2017.Williams has also spoken about the benefits of taking GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, and in a series of interviews last summer said that she felt joint stress caused by her weight had prevented her from winning as many Grand Slam titles as she might have done. Then, a year after her cameo in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show at Super Bowl LIX, during Super Bowl LX, Williams appeared in a commercial for telehealth company Ro, advertising the effectiveness of the weight-loss drugs. In the advert, Williams delivered a voiceover saying she is “moving better” and “feeling better” thanks to the drugs provided by the company, at one point directly injecting a syringe into her arm. Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, is an investor in Ro and serves on its board. Are tennis players allowed to take GLP-1 drugs?GLP-1s were not included on the World Anti Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2026 list of prohibited substances. They are part of WADA’s “monitoring program,” however, meaning the situation could change as more information about the drugs and their effects comes to light. When was her last match and why did she retire? You mean, “evolve away.” Williams did so, she said at the time, because she wanted to move “toward other things that are important to me. A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family.” Williams has just done that, giving birth to a second child, Adira River, in August 2023.Williams played her final match in September 2022 — a third-round defeat to Ajla Tomljanović at the U.S. Open, having beaten Danka Kovinić and then the No. 2 seed Anett Kontaveit in the first couple of rounds. It brought to an end a glittering career that took in 23 singles Grand Slams (the most of any woman in tennis’ professional Open Era), plus 14 in doubles and two in mixed. Overall, Williams won 73 singles titles and picked up just under $95 million dollars in a career that made her one of the biggest icons in the history of professional sport.Have other major champions made similar comebacks?Court, Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Kim Clijsters have won titles after childbirth, while Venus has done well since returning to tennis after 16 months out last July. But she’s only actually won one match, and so there’s no real precedent for a player in their mid-40s coming back to the tour and making a big impact.Martina Navratilova returned to singles in 2002, aged 45, eight years after retiring, and won a match at the Britannic Asset Management International Championships in Eastbourne, England. A couple of years later, she made more of a concerted comeback, but never won more than one match at the five tournaments she entered (plus another in 2005). She reached the latter stages of numerous doubles Grand Slams during this period, and won three mixed-doubles majors — including the U.S. Open in 2006 with Bob Bryan, aged 49.Should she return, Williams has the opportunity to make yet more history. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Sports Business, Culture, Tennis, Women's Tennis2026 The Athletic Media Company

Victor Wembanyama’s underwater Navy SEAL-style training shows how far he’ll go to bring the Spurs a title
Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty ImagesVictor Wembanyama’s underwater training clip says plenty about why the San Antonio Spurs are now four wins from another NBA title. The timing is impossible to ignore. San Antonio just knocked out the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, and Wembanyama is again showing the kind of edge that separates stars from franchise-changers.This is not empty workout content. It fits a bigger pattern of a young centerpiece treating preparation like part of the title chase, not a summer hobby.Photo by David Berding/Getty ImagesVictor Wembanyama training fuels Spurs title beliefThe clip shared by Overtime shows Wembanyama pushing through underwater work that looks closer to Navy SEAL-style preparation than standard NBA conditioning. That matters because Wembanyama has already built a reputation for unusual training methods. Previous offseason work has included underwater treadmill conditioning, chess between high-intensity intervals and a Shaolin Monastery retreat focused on discipline and body control. The point is not that one viral clip wins a playoff series. The point is that Wembanyama keeps looking for ways to build a body and mind that can handle pressure.San Antonio saw that payoff against Oklahoma City. The Spurs won Game 7, 111-103, and Wembanyama scored 22 points while managing foul trouble in the biggest game of his career.San Antonio Spurs face Knicks with Wembanyama readyThe next challenge is clear. The Spurs host the New York Knicks on Wednesday, June 3, in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. That matchup changes the meaning of the training clip. This is no longer about future promise, because the title shot is right in front of San Antonio.Wembanyama’s last response under pressure was exactly what the Spurs needed. After a quieter Game 5, he produced 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a 118-91 Game 6 win. Then came Game 7, where San Antonio’s supporting cast carried major stretches and Wembanyama’s presence still shaped everything. That is what serious contenders need from a franchise star.

7 NFL players who could be traded after June 1, from AJ Brown to Myles Garrett
June 2 is an important day for the NFL, even if it's stuck in the doldrums of the offseason. That's when teams can spread out the salary cap hits of released or traded players over two seasons, lessening the blow of losing them and creating the spending room to fill the void they've left. The biggest example for 2026 is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown. The three-time All-Pro seems destined to be dealt, especially after Philly used its first round draft pick on USC wideout Makai Lemon a month earlier. The New England Patriots, who notably did not select a Day 2 wideout destined to be released after two seasons (as is tradition), appear to be his most likely destination. However, he's not the only big name who's more likely to clear out his locker now than he was a week prior.Who else could join Brown as an offseason headline generator via trade? EDGE Myles Garrett, Cleveland BrownsGarrett showcased his loyalty by signing a four-year, $160 million contract extension with nearly $89 million guaranteed last year. Then he showcased his frustration as the Browns remained very much the Browns last fall. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year remains in his prime, but his clock is ticking as his age-31 season approaches.Dealing Garrett would bring a rebuilding Browns team an epic haul of draft considerations. Trading him before June 2 would have incurred a $41 million dead salary cap charge for Cleveland. Moving him after the cutoff date reduces that to a more manageable $15.5 million, per Over the Cap. Garrett has more than $72 million in guaranteed money coming over the next two seasons, which will scare some suitors away. Even so, the future Hall of Famer would generate interest from the majority of the league if the Browns put him on the trading block.EDGE Josh Sweat, Arizona CardinalsAnyone missing out on a potential Garrett sweepstakes could instead turn their attention to the southwest. Sweat had his most productive season in his Arizona debut, racking a career high 12 sacks alongside a 13.6 percent pressure rate despite playing less than half the team's defensive snaps. But the 29-year-old may not be the right man for another year of rebuilding -- the Cardinals quarterback rotation at the moment is Carson Beck, an injured Gardner Minshew II and a holding-out Jacoby Brissett. Thus, Arizona may opt to deal away one of its most accomplished players for inexpensive draft picks to set the table for a 2027 reload. Sweat's dead money drops from $22 million to $5.5 million after June 1. With less than $10 million in guaranteed money left on his contract -- all due in 2026 -- an acquiring team may have to hammer out an extension, but he should remain a commodity as training camps approach.LB Jordyn Brooks, Miami DolphinsThe Dolphins have a handful of veterans who could be new links in a chain of 2026 departures. Offensive line stalwarts Austin Jackson and Aaron Brewer fit the bill, but the addition of Malik Willis, extension of De'Von Achane and utter lack of reliable wideouts following the release of Tyreek Hill and trade of Jaylen Waddle suggest blocking will be a priority. Defensive lineman Zach Sieler's production dropped sharply in his age 30 season as his pressure rate was cut roughly in half from his 2023-2024 peak. Brooks, however, is 28 years old and coming off a breakthrough, All-Pro season in the middle of the defense. The cost of dealing the reliable inside linebacker drops from about $8.3 million to $2.5 after June 1. That's money the Dolphins could have absorbed before the draft if they were truly keen on selling high. But Brooks will likely remain part of trade discussions for a team looking to move on from the Mike McDaniel era and build the franchise's first playoff winner since Dave Wannstedt was head coach.QB Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis ColtsRichardson's dead cap won't be affected by the calendar flipping to June 2. He's currently staring down the opportunity to rebuild his value as a potential starting quarterback in Daniel Jones' absence. And Jones, despite signing a two-year, $88 million extension this offseason, can be released after the 2026 campaign while accelerating less than $9 million onto the Colts' salary cap for 2027. This all boosts the value of the former fourth overall pick in Indianapolis. It also may not be enough to keep him with the franchise that's backed him through three tumultuous seasons. Richardson's talent is massive but his inconsistency -- ranging from his passing accuracy to his ability to stay healthy -- may have told the Colts everything they need to know about his future. Indianapolis will be content to keep a player it gets limited financial relief from decoupling from, but the right deal could make the former Florida star someone else's lottery ticket.EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux, New York GiantsNew York has drafted an edge rusher with a top five selection three of the past five seasons. With Abdul Carter and now Arvell Reese in the fold, Thibodeaux could be the odd man out in a rotation that also includes All-Pro Brian Burns.Thibodeaux's breakthrough 11-sack 2023 was a bit of a mirage -- it came on a 9.2 percent pressure rate, his lowest in four seasons as a pro. He played only 10 games in 2025 due to injury and tallied only 3.5 sacks. His 11.2 percent pressure rate last year didn't crack the top 50 when it came to full-time edge rushers. Still, he maintains the potential that made him the fifth overall pick of 2022. Dealing him would clear nearly $15 million from the Giants' 2026 salary sheet.RB James Conner, Arizona CardinalsUnlike Sweat, there's minimal financial benefit in moving on from Conner. But like the dynamic edge rusher, Conner is a veteran presence on a team in the midst of a youth movement. This was made abundantly clear when the Cardinals selected Jeremiyah Love with the third overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, weeks after signing Tyler Allgeier to a free agent contract.Conner is 31 years old, which is ancient for a running back. He played only three games last season due to injury and averaged a woeful 3.0 yards per carry and a career-worst -0.6 rush yards over expected (RYOE) per touch. But he slapped together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2023 and 2024 and remains a pile-moving monster between the tackles. A modest Day 3 pick could deliver him to a new backfield platoon in need of steady veteran leadership. This article originally appeared on For The Win: NFL trades: 7 players who could still be dealt, including Myles Garrett

Eagles sign a new WR as NFL awaits A.J. Brown trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Philadelphia Eagles continue to add wide receivers this offseason as the NFL awaits news of an assumed trade that would send star WR A.J. NBA Finals 2026 betting preview, odds: Best bets for Knicks-Spurs Game 1, series
The last time the New York Knicks made the NBA Finals was back in 1999, and they faced the San Antonio Spurs. Leading the Spurs at the time was a star big man in 22-year-old Tim Duncan. This time, they face a 22-year-old Victor Wembanyama. Some of the franchise trajectories heading into this series are eerily similar to the past. What separates these two teams is how they were built. The ever debated topic of building through the draft or through trades and free agency also clashes in this matchup. The Spurs drafted Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson — five of their main seven rotation players. They also promoted a head coach from within in Mitch Johnson. Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentThe Knicks, on the other hand, signed Jalen Brunson in free agency and traded for Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby — all in separate deals. They also brought in Mike Brown to coach from outside the organization. It shows there is no right way to build in the NBA. Making the NBA Finals starts with lots of correct organizational decisions stacked atop of one another, however they come. While the storylines are awesome, the question we’re looking to answer in this article is: How do we stack good decisions atop one another in betting this series? How is the market reacting for Game 1? What player props can we target? Here are my NBA Finals best bets:Series best bet: Spurs 4-1 correct score (+380) The early money coming in on this series that is influential enough to move lines has backed the Spurs. In lookahead prices before the matchup was certain, the Knicks were +4.5 for Game 1, and now the line has pushed to a consensus +5. There has been a power rating bump for San Antonio after it beat the Oklahoma City Thunder; and it’s noteworthy De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper both looked healthy doing it. My model and projections are in line with the early market. I price the game at Spurs -6.5 before factoring in the rest disadvantage that San Antonio has against a New York team that will have had nine days rest after sweeping the Cavaliers. We have already seen New York in two scenarios this postseason with large rest advantages going against a team that won Game 7 on the road: the Philadelphia 76ers in Round 2 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Round 3. In both of those games, the Knicks got a 1.5-to-2-point market correction on their side because of the rest advantage. Going from New York +6.5 model in my model to a +5 in the market with the Knicks’ rest advantage makes sense. The key to this detail is that I suspect Game 2 for San Antonio makes them closer to a 6- or 6.5-point favorite as the rest advantage neutralizes a bit. Look at Cleveland as a 6.5-point road underdog for Game 1, and then +5 in Game 2. The Knicks' rest advantage was phased out of the market. This brings me to the bet. Even projecting the Spurs as a 5-point favorite in Game 1, a 6.5-point favorite Game 2, with standard home-court advantage flip and Knicks as a half-point favorite in New York, the correct score bet 4-1 should be +310, not +380. This provides an actionable edge at around 15%. That is very large, the biggest I can remember pricing out this postseason. This edge hinges on being right that the Game 2 market moves toward San Antonio, likely regardless of the Game 1 results.Game 1 player prop: Mikal Bridges under 2.5 assists (+130)The NBA playoffs are all about matchups. Mikal Bridges will be tasked as the primary perimeter defender on ball against the Spurs — which will rotate between Fox and Castle. When Bridges has gotten the primary perimeter matchup defensively, his offensive usage rate has dropped significantly — directly impacting his assist opportunities. Check out all of Yahoo's sports betting content here in our new betting hubTaking a look at Bridges' defensive stats in the Knicks’ first three series is very insightful. Against the Atlanta Hawks, Bridges was on the ball against Nickeil Alexander-Walker and CJ McCollum for 207 possessions. Against the Philadelphia 76ers, it was primarily Tyrese Maxey (140 possessions in four games). But in the four games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bridges had only 40 possessions against Donovan Mitchell and only seven minutes matched up against him. Bridges was primarily on James Harden who has clearly lost his speed and burst.Bridges has under 2 assists in nine out of 14 playoff games (64%), but that number increases to 70% when you key in on his defensive assignment. Bridges will be a focal point defensively against San Antonio, and offensively will be asked to use his length to shoot 3s and to score in the mid range.True market odds price this at +120, and we can grab a +130 as an actionable edge from both a market and basketball perspective. Game 1 total: Under 218.5We know how good San Antonio’s defense is with Wembanyama — the unanimous Defensive Player of the Year — controlling the paint and providing elite rim protection, a few studs on the perimeter and a defensive lead assistant in Sean Sweeney who just got poached to be the Orlando Magic head coach next season because of how he operations the Spurs’ defense. The Spurs forced the Thunder to have five of their worst 10 offensive games this season (playoffs and regular season combined). The Knicks quietly have the No. 1 defense in the NBA playoffs, though. New York has a 104.3 defensive net rating (first), allows the least points per game at 100.6, and is third best in opponent field goal percentage at 43.3%. They also matchup hunt offensively and that will slow the clock down. While this is a consensus number right now without a market edge, I think there will be a move towards the under between now and tip, and we should be fronting the news. The likely closing line value will generate the positive expected value to come.

Michigan State Football Builds 2026 Momentum Early
Pat Fitzgerald took over at Michigan State on Dec. 1, 2025, and his first roster job was clear right away: keep the 2026 recruiting class from slipping before the early signing period. Michigan State football held together a group that finished with 18 signed players, giving the Spartans needed numbers across the roster and a foundation for Fitzgerald’s first depth chart. The class also carried top-50 national status during the coaching transition. That mattered for Michigan State football, a program changing staffs in December and trying to avoid a full reset in high school recruiting.Michigan State added receiver help after signing dayFitzgerald’s first class picked up another offensive piece on Feb. 4, 2026, when four-star wide receiver Samson Gash signed with the Spartans. Michigan State identified Gash as the consensus No. 1 wide receiver in Michigan. That addition gave the 2026 class a higher-end pass catcher after the coaching change. For Michigan State football and a new staff shaping its offensive personnel, adding a receiver with that profile helped the room’s long-term depth and competition.Chicago recruiting is already part of the planFitzgerald also started establishing one of the recruiting areas tied closely to his background. He continued targeting the Chicago area at Michigan State, and Ohimai Ozolua became the first Chicago-area prospect to commit under his watch, as reflected in spring reporting on the Spartans’ recruiting push. That matters for more than geography. Expanding into Chicago gives Michigan State football another path to build defensive back depth and avoid leaning too heavily on one region in future classes. What the first stretch says about Fitzgerald’s roster buildMichigan State did not post a documented late spring recruiting wave. The stronger takeaway is that Fitzgerald stabilized the class he inherited, kept 18 signees in the fold, added Gash in February, and started opening a Chicago lane early in his tenure.Fitzgerald also arrived on a five-year deal, giving the program time to blend inherited relationships with his own recruiting map. The next recruiting question is easy to spot: can Michigan State football turn that early traction into more help at wide receiver and defensive back, where future class balance could shape Fitzgerald’s first full roster in East Lansing?

    Opponent Snapshot: Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Golden Gophers defeated the Lobos 20-17 in overtime. (Photo by Chris Coduto/Getty Images) | Getty Images Head Coach: PJ Fleck (10th year, 66-44 at Minnesota, 96-66 overall)2025 Record: 8-5 overall, 5-4 Big TenQuick 2025 RecapMinnesota completed its second straight 8-5 season, thanks to an overtime win over New Mexico in the Rate Bowl. Their most notable wins from the season include a snowy 17-7 win over bitter rival Wisconsin for Paul Bunyan’s Axe and a 24-6 beatdown of a then 25th-ranked Nebraska team, which almost immediately blew up the “Matt Rhule-to-Penn State” hype train. Unfortunately for the Gophers, their other two games against ranked opponents ended rather poorly, suffering a 42-3 shellacking at No.1 Ohio State and a 42-13 beatdown at 7th-ranked Oregon. They also got waxed 41-3 against their other bitter rival, Iowa at Kinnick Stadium and lost a close one at Northwestern, 38-35. Overall though, for program standards under PJ Fleck’s tenure, it was about par for the course. Offensive Player to Watch: QB Drake LindseyMinnesota has always prided itself on being a ground-and-pound type of program, and running back Darius Taylor will feature heavily into the offensive attack. However, whether 2026 ends up being a truly memorable one for the Gophers will hinge upon second-year starter Drake Lindsey’s improvement. Lindsey had a solid debut in 2025, throwing for 18 touchdowns, six interceptions, and 2,382 yards en route to becoming the first freshman quarterback in program history to win eight games. In order for Lindsey to take the next step though, he will need to move around a little better and limit sacks, as he was sacked 21 times last season. He will have help with veteran receivers Javon Tracy and and Jalen Smith returning, as well as transfer receiver Noah Jennings (Cincinnati) and Kaden Helms (Oklahoma). It will be imperative that Penn State’s bigger, bulkier defensive front is able to contain Taylor on the ground, which will allow the defense to focus in more on not allowing Lindsey to get comfortable and into a rhythm.Defensive Player to Watch: DE Anthony SmithSmith is not only Minnesota’s best returning defensive player, he’s also one of the Big Ten’s best returning defensive players, having led conference in sacks last year with 12.5. I can’t emphasize enough just how critical it will be for the offensive line, tight ends, or whoever is assigned to block the guy that they not allow him to do his thing, or it could be a very long afternoon for Penn State. Minnesota Wins If…Minnesota almost always gives Penn State a hard time, but when you factor in that the Nittany Lions will be coming off a draining cross-country road trip at Washington, the potential for a rough start that has them staring at an early multiple-score deficit and having to play catch-up the rest of the game is even higher, given the abilities of Darius Taylor to pound the rock and for Smith to wreak havoc with the pass rush. Not to mention, if Lindsey shows vast improvement from his first year as a starter, it will add another dimension to the Gophers’ offense. It wouldn’t exactly be a shocker of a result if Minnesota were to find a way to get out of Happy Valley with a dub. Penn State Wins If…First and foremost, Penn State needs to contain Darius Taylor and the Gophers’ rushing attack. While I anticipate Lindsey will be improved at quarterback, I don’t think Minnesota would feel comfortable putting the entire weight of the offense on his shoulders. Also, while Smith will be a handful for the offense to deal with, the Gophers’ back seven has a lot of holes and question marks and could be exploitable by Rocco Becht and the Nittany Lion offense. It also sure would help if PSU is coming back from their trip Seattle beaming from a win instead of hung over after a loss.

Why Blaine Bradford could be Ohio State’s next great safety
Ohio State Buckeyes safety Blaine Bradford (16) runs during Student Appreciation Day spring practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on April 4, 2026. | Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Not many programs can walk into Louisiana, go head-to-head with LSU for an elite defensive back, and come away with a commitment. That is exactly why landing Blaine Bradford was such a significant recruiting victory. For years, Baton Rouge has been one of the most difficult places in the country for outside programs to win major recruiting battles. Louisiana consistently produces elite defensive back talent, and more often than not, those players end up staying home and playing for LSU. When the Tigers make a prospect a priority, especially an in-state blue-chip defender, they rarely lose.Yet, Ohio State not only entered the race for Bradford, but they won it. Bradford arrived in Columbus as one of the highest-rated defensive backs in his recruiting class. Recruiting services viewed him as one of the top safeties in America, with some rankings placing him as the No. 1 safety prospect nationally. At roughly 6-foot-1 and 209 pounds, Bradford already possesses the frame that NFL teams covet at the position. He combines size, physicality, range, and football intelligence in a package that projects exceptionally well to the modern game. The reality is that Buckeye fans probably will not see much of him this season, and that is perfectly fine. In fact, that may be exactly how Ohio State wants it.BREAKING: Elite 2026 Safety Blaine Bradford has Committed to Ohio State, he tells me for @on3recruitsThe 6’2 205 S from Baton Rouge, LA chose the Buckeyes over LSU, Oregon, & Texas“Ohio State is the best place for my development and for my future.”https://t.co/HkUeZgMBbWpic.twitter.com/i4t7SFFByK— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) March 31, 2025Learning behind one of the deepest safety rooms in the countryThe biggest obstacle standing between Bradford and immediate playing time is not talent. It is an opportunity. Ohio State enters 2026 with one of the deepest and most experienced defensive back rooms in the country. Veterans such as Terry Moore, Earl Little Jr, Jaylen McLain, and even Leroy Roker give Matt Patricia and Matt Guerrieri plenty of proven options in the secondary. For a freshman safety, that is actually an ideal situation. Safety is one of the most difficult positions in college football to learn and succeed at a young age. Young corners can sometimes survive by simply relying on elite athleticism. Safeties cannot. They must understand the entire defense, communicate adjustments, recognize route concepts, fit the run correctly, and eliminate explosive plays. The fastest way for talented freshmen to struggle is to play before they fully understand those responsibilities.Ohio State has learned this lesson repeatedly throughout its history. Many of the Buckeyes’ best defensive backs spent their first seasons learning behind veterans before eventually emerging as stars, and Bradford appears positioned to follow a similar developmental path. That does not mean he will disappear entirely this season. Special teams snaps, rotational opportunities, and late-game reps could still arrive throughout the year. But his biggest job in 2026 may simply be absorbing everything possible from one of the nation’s better defensive coaching staffs. Why 2027 could be the real beginningThe more interesting conversation begins next offseason. By 2027, much of Ohio State’s current safety depth chart will be gone or significantly altered, and that is where Bradford’s path becomes much clearer. Physically, he already looks like a player who could compete for meaningful snaps in the Big Ten, and what separates him from many young defensive backs is how complete his skill set appears entering college.blaine bradford gon be special pic.twitter.com/bAWwUPnr0Y— ttwfo. (@cseem20) April 4, 2026At Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Bradford built a reputation as a versatile defender capable of impacting games in multiple ways. He was productive against the run, comfortable playing deep coverage, and athletic enough to handle man-to-man responsibilities. Ohio State’s coaching staff has repeatedly prioritized safeties who can wear multiple hats, and Bradford fits that profile perfectly. His ability to function as a deep safety, box defender, or matchup piece against tight ends could make him one of the more versatile players in the secondary. The coaching staff has increasingly valued positional flexibility in recent years, especially with Patricia at the helm. Defenses are becoming more matchup-based, and players who can seamlessly move between roles create significant advantages. Bradford’s game naturally lends itself to that style. When evaluating future starters, the question is not simply whether a player can execute one responsibility. It is whether he can stay on the field regardless of personnel grouping or offensive formation, and Bradford appears to possess that exact type of versatility. As a result, 2027 feels less like a developmental year and more like a legitimate opportunity to compete for a major role in Columbus. The long-term ceiling is extremely highThe reason Ohio State fans should be excited is not that Bradford will immediately become a star. It is because his developmental timeline aligns almost perfectly with the way elite defensive backs often emerge in Columbus. Year one is about learning. Year two is about competing. Year three is often when future NFL players fully arrive.Bradford possesses many of the traits that have defined successful Buckeye safeties over the past decade. He has the size to withstand Big Ten physicality. He has the athleticism to hold up against modern passing offenses. He has the recruiting pedigree that suggests high-level natural talent and athleticism. And perhaps most importantly, he enters a program that has consistently developed elite high school defensive backs into NFL talent.Nothing is guaranteed. Development is rarely linear, and every prospect faces challenges transitioning from high school football to one of the nation’s premier programs. But when projecting forward, it is easy to see why Ohio State fought so hard to land him. The likely outcome for 2026 is patience. The likely outcome for 2027 is competition. And then by 2028, there is a very real chance Buckeye fans are discussing Bradford as one of the leaders of the defense and one of the next defensive backs preparing for an NFL future. That may feel far away today. For Ohio State, however, that future is exactly why Blaine Bradford was such a massive recruiting win in the first place.

A.J. Brown trade buzz to Patriots builds as June 1 deadline nears
Rumors about the New England Patriots say the team could sign a new star wide receiver on June 1. Trade talks have surrounded Philadelphia Eagleswide receiver A.J. Brown and the Patriots for the past two months.Brown was once coached by current Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel when the two were part of the Tennessee Titans. And rumors have been swirling for some time that Brown would be a Patriot by June 1, 2026, a date which serves as one of the salary cap deadlines for the NFL."Among the reasons why a deal has yet to be made is the way Brown’s contract affects the Eagles’ salary cap," Sports Illustrated said. "If Philadelphia had traded him before June 1, it would have carried his entire $43 million dead-cap charge in 2026. AC Milan’s Rafael Leao offered to Arsenal, Gunners eyeing RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba
AC Milan’s Rafael Leao offered to Arsenal, Gunners eyeing RB Leipzig’s Castello LukebaArsenal are thinking longer term about who will succeed Gabriel Magalhaes, and RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba is on their radar, according to The Times. The 28-year-old Gunners centre-back has had knee issues, and it appears Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is already preparing for life without the Brazilian at the Emirates Stadium club. The tough-tackling Lukeba has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga in his position, and the North London club could do with his services of the 23-year-old Frenchman. However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal will come for him this summer or wait until much later before making a concrete move. The Gunners are expected to strengthen in attack this summer and they have been offered AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. The 26-year-old Portuguese wants to leave Serie A ahead of next season and a move to the Premier League could appeal to him. Leao has 80 goals and 65 assists in 227 league games in the Italian top-flight. Passing and dribbling are his major strengths, and Arsenal could do with such a player in their ranks. They could sell Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard this summer, and reinforcements are needed.Arteta will also look to strengthen in the middle of the park, and they have West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi on their radar.

Israel orders strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs as Hezbollah rockets hit northern Israel
A family flees following an Israeli threat to strike Dahiyeh, Beirut's southern suburbs, Lebanon, Monday, June 1, 2026. (AP Photo/Bilal Hussein)2026-06-01T08:57:30Z BEIRUT (AP) — Israel’s government ordered strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Monday, a day after its ground forces reached their deepest point in Lebanon in 26 years and as Hezbollah fired rockets at northern Israel, including the outskirts of the coastal city of Haifa.A joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said the orders to attack targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs followed what they called repeated violations of the ceasefire by Hezbollah and “attacks against our cities and citizens.”Hezbollah agreed to halt attacks on Israel when the ceasefire was signed in mid-April, but the militant group resumed the assaults after Israeli strikes in Lebanon that Israel characterized as self-defense.After Monday’s warning, large numbers of people were seen fleeing the area known in Arabic as Dahiyeh, jamming roads leading out of the suburb, where Hezbollah enjoys wide support. Israel and Hezbollah exchange fire overnightIsraeli airstrikes overnight on southern Lebanon left six people dead, including a Syrian citizen in a village near the city of Nabatiyeh, the state-run National News Agency said. Israel struck other towns and villages near the major city, close to the strategic Beaufort Castle and other towns the Israeli military captured in recent days. The Israeli military, meanwhile, said its air force had intercepted two projectiles launched from Lebanon toward Israeli territory, as well as a suspicious aerial target in the area where Israeli soldiers operate in southern Lebanon. No injuries were reported, the military said.Hezbollah said it carried out rocket and missile attacks on northern Israel on Sunday. It said early Monday it attacked Israeli troops in Zawtar al-Sharqieh, just north of the Litani River, and struck what they said was Israeli military infrastructure in Tiberius, a few dozen miles south of the border. Israel and Lebanon set to hold talks in WashingtonThe latest attacks came despite a nominal ceasefire that has been in place since April 17 and just before Lebanon and Israel hold their next round of direct talks in Washington starting Tuesday. Hezbollah has rejected direct talks, counting on pressure from Iran, which has demanded an end to the war in Lebanon in its talks with Washington. The talks between officials from Israel and Lebanon, which began in April in Washington, were the first in more than three decades between the countries, which have no formal diplomatic relations.Lebanese officials have been scrambling in diplomatic calls, including with Washington, in a desperate bid to push back Israel’s military escalation after Netanyahu’s announcement, a Lebanese diplomatic official said. Beirut is still committed to holding talks to end the conflict despite the boiling tensions, said the official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. Read More Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted Monday that any ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran is a “ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon.” “Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts,” Iran’s top diplomat said in a post on X. Beirut, the Lebanese capital, has been mostly spared from airstrikes since the ceasefire went into effect, apart from two targeted attacks on the city’s southern suburbs in May.The German development minister, Reem Alabali Radovan, had planned to visit Beirut on Monday to meet with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and other officials, but she called off the visit while traveling to the city, citing the possibility of Israeli strikes in the suburbs. Rubio proposes a fresh path to continue talksA U.S. official said late Sunday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had spoken to Aoun and Netanyahu to propose a fresh path to continue ongoing negotiations, as President Donald Trump weighs a tentative ceasefire extension with Iran.Under the proposal, Hezbollah would halt all attacks on Israel, and Israel would refrain from escalating military operations in Beirut, according to the official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private diplomatic conversations. The official said Aoun was open to the idea but that Lebanese parliament chief Nabih Berri had responded by demanding that Israel first stop all military action. The official said the Trump administration does not expect Israel to give up retaliating for Hezbollah strikes on its territory.Berri, a key Hezbollah ally, said in a statement Sunday that he can guarantee the militant group’s “full, comprehensive and immediate commitment to a ceasefire.” Berri added: “But who will force Israel to stop its aggression?”Aoun on Monday said in comments released by his office that Lebanon faces “a fierce and condemned Israeli aggression.” Aoun added that his government continues work to end “the suffering of the Lebanese in general and the southerners in particular.”Later, the president issued a statement reiterating Beirut’s commitment to negotiations, saying it is “safer” than war.” “It will not solve the problem within moments, but it is a process that needs time,” he said. “And we have no other choice.”The latest round of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has killed 3,412 people in Lebanon and displaced more than 1 million people.Israel’s military said a soldier was killed in southern Lebanon overnight in a drone attack by Hezbollah. Hezbollah’s use of hard-to-detect fiber-optic drones has been deadly for the Israeli military, which is struggling to respond.According to Netanyahu’s office, at least 26 Israeli soldiers and a defense contractor have been killed in or near southern Lebanon. Two civilians have also been killed in northern Israel.___Melzer reported from Tel Aviv, Israel. Colorado elections clerk released from prison after governor commutes sentence
Former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters smiles at supporters sitting behind her during her sentencing for her election interference case at the Mesa County District Court, Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, in Grand Junction, Colo. (Larry Robinson/The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel via AP, File)2026-06-01T04:33:44Z DENVER (AP) — Tina Peters, the former clerk convicted of participating in a scheme to chase election conspiracy theories promulgated by President Donald Trump, was released from prison Monday after the president successfully pressured Colorado’s Democratic governor into commuting her sentence.Peters’ release was confirmed by the Colorado Department of Corrections. The state agency said it would have no more information about the 70-year-old inmate. Her sentence was shortened by Gov. Jared Polis last month after Trump waged a lengthy pressure campaign against the governor and his state.Peters served less than a quarter of her nine-year sentence.Peters was the first local election official to be charged with breaching security after the 2020 election. She snuck in an outside computer expert affiliated with My Pillow Chief Executive Mike Lindell — who himself denied that Trump lost the White House in 2020 — and the person copied the county’s Dominion Voting Systems computer server as it was updated in 2021. Peters then joined Lindell onstage at a “cybersymposium” that promised to reveal proof that the election was rigged. Video and photos of the computer system upgrade, including passwords, were posted online. The move stoked false claims that voting machines were manipulated to steal the election from Trump. Peters was convicted in 2024 of attempting to influence a public servant, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, violation of duty and other crimes by jurors in Mesa County, a Republican stronghold that supported Trump. An appeals court upheld her conviction in April, but ordered Peters to be resentenced because it said the judge who sent her to prison wrongly punished her for speaking out about election fraud. Read More Trump had championed Peters’ case, but because she was convicted under state law, he did not have the power to pardon her. Instead, the president pressured Polis to do so, lambasting him on social media and disinviting him to a White House meeting with other governors. The Trump administration also announced plans to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado and relocated the U.S. Space Command to Alabama. Polis commuted Peters’ sentence on May 15. In a letter, he wrote that although Peters was convicted of serious crimes and deserved to spend time in prison, the sentence was “extremely unusual and lengthy” for a first-time non-violent offender. Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, called the move a “dark day for democracy” and said it amounted to ”selling out our state’s justice system for Trump.” 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site

Young and unemployed? Remote work, not AI, may be the problem, study finds
Connor Scott, 24, and Zoe Lloyd, 21, meet up at a local coffee shop and restaurant to work on their studies on April 20, 2026 in Flagstaff, Ariz. (AP Photo/Cheyanne Mumphrey, file)2026-06-01T14:51:10Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The rise of remote work since the pandemic has made businesses more reluctant to hire young, inexperienced workers and is the key driver of higher unemployment rates for recent college graduates, a study released Monday has found. The study, by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, compared occupations that can be done remotely — such as software development — with those that are done in person, such as nursing. The study finds that the unemployment rate among young college graduates in “remotable” jobs rose by about 1 percentage point from 2017-2019 to 2022-2024. Yet for older workers in those fields — those aged 29 and over — the jobless rate declined slightly, leading to a notably higher unemployment rate for college graduates 28 or younger in remotable occupations compared with older ones. Yet in non-remotable jobs, there has been little gap in the unemployment rates between older and younger college grads, the study finds. A similar pattern exists for those without college degrees, the study found. The study, led by New York Fed research economist Natalia Emanuel, concludes that businesses are reluctant to hire new college grads into remote work because it is harder to train and mentor them if they work outside of the office. The authors of the study calculate that remote work is responsible for nearly two-thirds of the rise in the unemployment rate for young college graduates since the pandemic. “Remote work has weakened incentives to hire young workers by impeding on-the-job training,” the study said. “Employers may not want to hire fresh graduates onto distributed teams because it is more difficult to teach them the requisite skills from afar.” Read More The study notes that the rise in unemployment among young college grads pre-dates the development of artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT. And when the authors looked at the exposure different occupations had to AI, it found that AI had little impact on youth unemployment. The unemployment rate for college grads under 29 rose 20% from before the pandemic to 3.7%, on average, in 2022-2025, the New York Fed said. For college grads aged 22 through 27, unemployment reached 5.8% last year, the highest outside the pandemic since 2012. The study’s findings are consistent with the low-hire, low-fire state of the job market, where layoffs are low and the unemployment rate is mostly stable, but those out of work are struggling to find new jobs. The New York Fed study also looked at detailed data from an unnamed Fortune 500 tech company and found that its hiring patterns mirrored what they had seen in the broader data. When the company’s offices were closed and staff worked remotely, “the firm hired fewer inexperienced workers and more experienced workers, who might need less mentorship to do their jobs well.”“Once its offices reopened, the company shifted back to hiring younger workers,” the study said. But even after the reopening, the company favored more experienced workers for teams that included remote work. Serena Williams is returning to pro tennis at age 44 after nearly 4 years away from the sport
Serena Williams, of the United States, returns a shot to Anett Kontaveit, of Estonia, during the second round of the U.S. Open tennis championships, Aug. 31, 2022, in New York. (AP Photo/John Minchillo, File)2026-06-01T14:53:38Z PARIS (AP) — Serena Williams is returning to professional tennis at age 44 after nearly four years away from the sport. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion has accepted a wild card invitation to play doubles at the upcoming Queen’s Club grass-court tournament, the WTA Tour announced Monday, The Queen’s Club tournament starts next Monday and the WTA said Williams will play “with a partner to be announced in due course.”Williams has not competed since bidding farewell at the 2022 U.S. Open. At the time, Williams said she didn’t want to use the word “retiring” and instead declared that she was “evolving” away from tennis.“Serena brought the game to another level and it is incredible for the sport that she’s pushing the boundaries and coming back,” said Martina Navratilova, the previous oldest former No.1 to launch a comeback after retirement, at 43 years, 10 months. “To many of the younger players, they never had the opportunity to play her; some may have never watched her on television so this will be a new and exciting experience,” Navratilova said.Williams, who has also won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, became eligible to compete in February after re-registering with tennis’ mandatory anti-doping program six months earlier — which is the first step toward a comeback. Four-time major winner Naomi Osaka, who beat Williams in the 2018 U.S. Open final for her first major title, was excited at the prospect. Read More “It will bring people to watch tennis,” Osaka said Thursday. “I’m going to be tuned into the first match, for sure. I think a lot of people are. Everyone knows Serena and Venus were my role models growing up, so it’s going to be cool to see her on the grounds again.”A return on grass will raise speculation that Williams also plans to compete at Wimbledon, which starts June 28. She’s won seven singles titles at the All England Club. Williams recently posted a video on Instagram showing herself training on a hard court with her daughter: “Rumor has it…I got a new trainer,” Williams said in the post.Williams’ second daughter was born in 2023.When it was revealed last year that Williams had signed up to return to the drug-testing pool, she wrote on social media: “Omg yall I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”Gauff never got to play Williams“One of my biggest regrets was not being able to play her,” defending French Open champion Coco Gauff said in Paris. “It would be cool for this sport to have a legend back playing.”American player, Iva Jovic, 18, also sounded thrilled.“I think it’s amazing. It’s really cool,” she said. “I have never seen Serena in real life. Obviously I grew up watching her. In my entire childhood she was dominating tennis, so it’s going to be incredible.”Like Osaka, she thinks it will boost tennis in general.“It’s going to make a lot of headlines and it’s something that people are going to talk about,” Jovic said.Added fellow American player Madison Keys, “Serena Williams playing tennis is only good for tennis. Let’s be real. We all want to watch Serena play tennis. “I mean, you literally get to watch history every single time she takes the court,” Keys added. “So why not watch more?”WTA chair Valerie Camillo said that “Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all-time, with a legacy that extends far beyond the court.“Her return is an expression of her passion for competition and I cannot wait to see her face a new generation of top players,” Camillo added. “Serena is not just a great champion. She’s a successful entrepreneur, a powerful advocate for the issues that matter – and one of the most iconic women in the world. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the WTA Tour at this hugely exciting moment for women’s tennis.”___AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis ANDREW DAMPF Dampf has been a Rome-based sports writer at The AP for over 20 years, covering soccer, tennis, Alpine skiing and many other events in Italy and beyond, including five soccer World Cups. Saba Karim sees shades of Dhoni and Rohit in Rajat Patidar’s captaincy as RCB clinch back-to-back IPL titles
Royal Challengers Bengaluru claimed a historic second consecutive IPL title on Sunday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defending champions defeated Gujarat Titans in their home ground by five wickets with their icon Virat Kohli at the heart of it. Former Indian selector Saba Karim highlighted captain Rajat Patidar’s influence and drew comparison with MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, the two greatest captains the league has seen over the years.Patidar became only the third captain after Dhoni and Rohit to win back-to-back titles and etched his name in IPL record books. Speaking on Star Sports' Amul Cricket Live, Karim pointed to Patidar's remarkable rise as the leader of RCB's back-to-back championship win. "One of the biggest reasons behind RCB winning a second consecutive title has been the clarity around individual roles within the team, and Rajat Patidar deserves a lot of credit for that," he said.Drawing comparison with Dhoni and Rohit, the former Indian wicketkeeper said, “When we talk about captains who have led teams to consecutive titles, names like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma come up, and I can see similarities in the way Rajat Patidar leads this team.” Patidar took over the captaincy from Du Plessis in the 2025 season and the rest is history. He has a 70% winning record as a captain of RCB where he won 19 out of 27 matches and delivered the two titles during this period. What makes the achievement all the more striking is the path Patidar walked to reach this point. He arrived as a replacement player in the 2024 season, and eventually inherited the captaincy of a dressing room that included Virat Kohli among its many world-class names. Earning authority in that environment without international experience is remarkable and pointing this out, Karim noted, “ For someone without international experience, earning respect in a dressing room filled with world-class players, including Virat Kohli, is not easy. Rajat earned that respect through consistent performances." 131441226Another influential figure and the leader of RCB’s bowling, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, reflected on the team's development during the interaction in the post-match show. Kumar praised the younger bowlers for their hunger to grow. "Their willingness to learn, their dedication, and the effort they put into improving are what ultimately make the difference," he said, "They've not only learned from experienced players in the group but also from someone like Josh Hazlewood and the coaching staff."
