APNEWS.COMUS to drastically slash the number of embassies in Africa that can process visasPresident Donald Trump, next to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaks during a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)2026-06-01T18:20:50Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department plans to drastically slash the number of U.S. embassies and consulates in Africa that can process visas for foreigners seeking to come to the United States. The almost 50 U.S. embassies and consulates that are processing visa applications will be reduced to 20 in the coming weeks, according to three U.S. officials and an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. There is not yet a set date for the change, but it is expected in June, according to the officials, who were not authorized to comment to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity. The move is part of the Trump administration’s effort to crack down on issuing both immigrant and non-immigrant visas as part of its broader aim to limit immigration to the U.S. and clamp down on those who travel on temporary visas but then overstay them. The administration also has scaled back personnel at embassies and consulates around the world. On a conference call last Friday, U.S. diplomats, including consular chiefs, were told the U.S. would be scaling back its visa services across Africa, according to one of the officials who was on the call. Under a directive approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week, the State Department will reduce consular operations in all but 20 “hubs” in Africa, according to the officials and the memo. Visa processing in Africa has already been affected by a travel ban on certain countries as well as a requirement for applicants to post up to $15,000 bond in order to apply and more recently by restrictions caused by the Ebola outbreak. Read More The new rules mean that a citizen of a non-hub country will have to travel to one of the 20 approved sites, which could pose formidable travel challenges and costs. Consular sections in non-hub countries will stay open but be limited in the services they can offer. They will still be able to assist American citizens with passport renewals and emergency consular requests as well as special national interest cases and diplomatic visa applications. According to the memo, the 20 hubs to remain open for all processing are: Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Accra, Ghana; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Cape Town, South Africa; Dakar, Senegal; Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania; Djibouti, Djibouti; Johannesburg, South Africa; Kampala, Uganda; Kigali, Rwanda; Kinshasa, Congo; Lagos, Nigeria; Lome, Togo; Luanda, Angola; Malabo, Equatorial Guinea; Monrovia, Liberia; Nairobi, Kenya; Port Louis, Mauritius; Praia, Cape Verde; and Yaounde, Cameroon.___Mednick reported from Tel Aviv. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMProblem plaguing the Blue Jays, White Sox's incredible turnaround and two teams making noise in the power rankings updateSubscribe to Baseball Bar-B-CastApple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTubeWhen the Toronto Blue Jays went on their incredible World Series run last season, there was plenty of hope that it was the start of what could be a dominant run by a stacked team. Fast forward to 2026, and Toronto finds itself in a bit of a sticky situation. Although, based on last year's success, all hope might not be lost just yet.On this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jordan Shusterman is joined by special guests Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi to break down what has gone wrong this year for the reigning American League champions and whether injuries are the main reason for their sluggish first two months. Even though the Blue Jays might be nine games back in the AL East, they currently hold a Wild Card spot, and with players returning from the IL, it still could be a very exciting summer in Canada. Also on this episode, Jordan and Ben talk about the remarkable turnaround season the Chicago White Sox are having, which sees them sitting just one game back in the AL Central while also occupying a Wild Card spot. Instead of being sellers at the deadline, they could find themselves as buyers. However, with the injury to rookie sensation Munetaka Murakami, will the White Sox be able to tread water until he returns? The guys then discuss the Seattle Mariners' use of piggyback pitching, the New York Yankees continuing to impress and their thoughts on the latest power rankings.2:37 - The Opener: White Sox roll on 19:54 - Nationals also offering a turnaround 35:01 - Issues plaguing the Blue Jays 51:30 - State of Toronto pitching and hitting 1:09:27 - Around the League: Mariners pitching strategy 1:21:38 - Power rankings thoughtsPhoto by Alyssa Piazza/MLB Photos via Getty ImagesPhoto by Alyssa Piazza/MLB Photos via Getty Images🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all episodes of Baseball Bar-B-Cast and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at yahoosports.tv0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSerena Williams, at 44, will shatter myth that women have a 'use by' date | OpinionSerena Williams' comeback isn’t only for her.Like the returns of Lindsey Vonn, Allyson Felix and so many other women athletes, Williams' announcement that she is returning to competitive tennis at 44 is a reminder to the world that women do not have a "use by" date. We can do whatever we please, whenever we damn well please, and we will no longer be bound by the artificial constraints society tries to impose. We’re too old. We can’t juggle a demanding career with a family. We need to make way for the next generation.Hogwash.So long as our bodies cooperate, and advances in medicine make that more and more likely, women can and should continue doing what brings them joy. Especially when they’re the best in the world at it.Joint pain one reason Serena Williams stepped away from tennisWilliams stepped away from tennis in 2022, in part because she and husband Alexis Ohanian wanted another child. Daughter Adira was born the following year, and Williams focused on her family and investing in people and ventures who were getting overlooked by traditional sources of funding. But Williams had also been plagued by joint pain that was bad enough to hamper her training since her first pregnancy. It probably also kept her from winning more Grand Slams. When she began taking a GLP-1 drug, she realized that not only was she losing weight, the joint pain was disappearing. Much as a partial knee replacement made it possible for Vonn to resume her skiing career, this medical advancement opened the door for Williams to play tennis again. Results not only measure of Serena Williams comebackMaybe Williams will win another Grand Slam — if you think she’s only coming back to play doubles at The Queen’s Club, you don’t know Serena Williams — maybe she won’t. That’s not the point. The point is Williams still wants to play. And that is reason enough for her, and anyone else, to keep going.“Why not?” Williams’ older sister, Venus, said last summer when asked why she was playing again after going more than a year between tournaments."Just the pure fun of playing the game, the fun of the challenge, overcoming – when you play, you overcome so many challenges: your opponents, the conditions, a lot of times you have to overcome yourself,” Venus Williams said. “Those things are very exciting."For too long, the shelf life for women has been our late 30s or early 40s. Even younger for women athletes. You hit a certain age, and the world essentially wrote you off. It didn’t matter if you had more to give or weren’t ready to give up. The world had decided for you that your purpose had been served. But women have stopped accepting a lot of "norms" lately. We get married and have children later. Or not at all. We demand equal compensation. We refuse to accept that what we do, say and play has less value simply because we’re women. Of course Serena Williams is going to be part of that revolution.Serena Williams has never let anyone define herWilliams’ greatness has never just been about her tennis. She’s challenged conventions on looks, body type, race, fashion and finance. She played with power and strength, and was unafraid to show it. She spoke her mind on a variety of issues and would not take less than she deserved. Now she’s going to show the world that playing past her 40th birthday was just a warmup. If you have seen any of the videos of Williams hitting in the last couple of months, it is obvious that she can still play. And play well. It should not surprise anyone if she makes a Grand Slam final this year."Her return is an expression of her passion for competition," Valerie Camillo, chair of the WTA, said in a statement, "and I cannot wait to see her face a new generation of top players."Williams has never let anyone define her. In anything. She wants to play tennis again, so she's going to. It's a choice she is making, rather than one that's being imposed on her. That alone is a victory, for Williams and every other woman.Follow USA TODAY Sports columnist Nancy Armour on social media @nrarmour.This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Serena Williams' return at age 44 will happen on the tennis star's terms0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

Getting back a young Pro Bowler on a rookie contract in Jared Verse is a nice touch, who will immediately add talent to the void left by Garrett. However, there is no replacing a player of Garrett's magnitude.Verse will now start opposite Alex Wright, who just signed a contract extension, along the Browns' defensive line. Isaiah McGuire rounds out the room that lacks much depth behind these three names. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSorsby and NCAA await ruling after judge hears case as QB seeks eligibility after admitting betsLUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Attorneys for Brendan Sorsby and the NCAA presented arguments before a district judge Monday as the Texas Tech transfer quarterback seeks an injunction to allow him to play next season after he acknowledged making thousands of impermissible bets while in college. There was no immediate ruling from Senior Judge Ken Curry after the two-hour hearing, or any indication of when he would rule on a temporary injunction against the NCAA. An injunction would not change Sorsby being declared permanently ineligible by the NCAA, but would put that on hold as the case proceeds.Sorsby did not attend the hearing in the 99th District Court in Lubbock County, where Texas Tech is located. Jeffrey Kessler, the attorney who negotiated the House settlement against the NCAA and is now representing Sorsby, requested a ruling by June 15. That would be a week before the deadline for Sorsby to apply for the NFL supplemental draft if he remains ineligible to play for the Red Raiders this fall. Kessler told the court the 22-year-old Sorsby has a diagnosed addiction and anxiety-driven compulsion. He said the quarterback was never motivated by financial gain in his gambling and never sought to alter or compromise the outcome of a game. Sorsby, who transferred to Texas Tech for a reported multimillion-dollar deal after playing for Cincinnati the past two seasons, recently completed a month-long residential treatment program for gambling addiction. According to a clinician who treated Sorsby, Kessler said, not allowing the quarterback to play would hurt his mental health and impede the progress of his recovery. NCAA lead attorney Taylor Askew questioned how being allowed to play again in college, and putting him back into the situation that triggered his behavior, would help Sorsby’s mental health. As for NCAA rules, Askew said, Sorsby would have been ruled ineligible long ago had his gambling been known in the past. Court filings revealed that on March 11 the NCAA received a tip from an online gambling book, which had been informed by law enforcement, about Sorsby’s gambling activity. Texas Texas was notified April 14 that the NCAA was doing an investigation. “If this were just one or two violations, it would still render him ineligible,” Askew told the judge. “This is thousands of violations, 40 individual bets on Indiana football when he was a member of the team, he was on the roster. He just wasn’t traveling. A member of the team, that’s permanent ineligibility.”The bets made by SorsbyAccording to court documents, Sorsby made thousands of bets totaling at least $90,000 while in college. That included at least 40 bets on Indiana football when he was a Hoosiers freshman in 2022, though none on games that he played in over two seasons there. The documents show that Sorsby made at least 2,900 bets totaling more than $30,000 while at Indiana from June 2022 through December 2023. He continued betting after transferring to Cincinnati, though not on the Bearcats. He provided more than $60,000 to a friend to deposit into a shared FanDuel account registered in another name.Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech after last season, to a state where online betting is illegal, and electronically transferred about $5,000 to other individuals who placed bets on his behalf. Texas Tech seeks Sorsby’s reinstatementTexas Tech announced on April 27 that Sorsby was taking an indefinite leave of absence to enter a residential treatment program. Coach Joey McGuire said last week that the quarterback would still be able to participate in offseason workouts with the Red Raiders after returning to campus. Their season opener is Sept. 5 at home against Abilene Christian. Texas Tech won the Big 12 last season before a loss in the College Football Playoff capped a 12-2 season. Sorsby sought the injunction against the NCAA in a lawsuit filed May 18, the same day Texas Tech ruled him ineligible, a necessary step before the school could pursue his reinstatement. Tech filed that request for reinstatement the following day, and the NCAA denied it May 22. Texas Tech is appealing that ruling.___AP college football: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-football0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Virat Kohli is a huge name in Australia right now': Deputy PM Richard Marles after RCB's second consecutive IPL titleNEW DELHI: Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles used Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2026 title win as an example of the strong relationship between India and Australia. Speaking a day after RCB defeated Gujarat Titans to win their second consecutive IPL trophy, Marles pointed out how Indian star Virat Kohli and Australian players Josh Hazlewood and Tim David all played important roles in the victory.Marles said the trio's contribution reflected how the two countries increasingly work together across different fields. "When I was here last year, it was the morning after the final of the Indian Premier League, as it is, of course, this morning. Last night, as we saw a year ago, we saw RCB triumph. But I like the fact that Virat Kohli was 75 not out and was man of the match, but alongside him were Josh Hazlewood and Tim David. So there was very much an Australian-Indian bilateral theme at play last night as RCB won the IPL. And that is emblematic, I think, of the relationship between our two countries," he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.Speaking further at the "Manobal" community event in New Delhi, Marles highlighted Kohli's immense popularity in Australia and recalled growing up watching Indian cricket legends. "Virat Kohli is a huge name in Australia right now, but as I grew up, the very first Indian cricket captain I remember was Bishan Bedi; they were the great names of that era," he added. He added that cricket remains a powerful bond between the two nations and helps strengthen wider ties.Marles also shared his excitement about meeting 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev at the event. Calling it a memorable experience, he said, "It is quite a thrill for me to be standing next to the great Kapil Dev... The relationship between Australia and India is at a high point... In so many ways, the shared passion that we have for life is embodied in our passion for cricket."0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTigers fans won't like seeing where their team sits in latest power rankingsTigers fans won't like seeing where their team sits in latest power rankings originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. There was a lot of hope for the Detroit Tigers heading into the 2026 season. They held onto their ace, Tarik Skubal, and added another frontline starting lefty in Framber Valdez during the offseason. However, the team would learn in May that they would be without Skubal for a while. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow earlier in the month. Without the reigning two-time AL Cy Young Award winner, they have struggled. Detroit posted a 6-22 record this past month, which has them sitting in the basement of the AL Central. MORE: Detroit Tigers desperately need former No. 1 overall pick to 'heat up'Tigers fans won't like seeing where their team sits in latest power rankingsIf you were to ask Tigers fans before the season started if they expected to be 10 games behind the Chicago White Sox, they likely would have looked at you like you were crazy, but here we are. The Tigers have already dug themselves a deep hole, sitting 11.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians, who hold the top spot in the division. There's not a lot of hope surrounding this team at the current moment, and Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter ranks them as the worst team in his latest power rankings. "The Tigers wrapped up a disastrous month of May with a 6-22 record and just 81 runs scored in 28 games while batting .204 as a team. Along the way, they plummeted from tied atop the AL Central standings to 11.5 games back in the cellar, and it won't be long before the vultures start circling their roster ahead of the summer trade market."There's growing concern that Detroit has already dug itself into a hole too deep to climb out of. And with this comes selling ahead of the trade deadline, which Reuter warns the fanbase about. This is where Detroit fans envisioned their team would be at this point of the season, but it's now a reality. This team could look awfully different if things don't start changing now. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMFederal court rules Trump illegally banned trans people from the militaryA federal court ruled against Donald Trump’s transgender military ban earlier today. A three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled 2-1 in Talbott v. USA that the ban on transgender people serving openly in the military is a policy designed to target a group of people based on their gender identity, upholding a March 2025 ruling from out federal Judge Ana Reyes that the policy likely violates the Constitution. Related Donald Trump forced Erica Vandal out of the military. So she’s fighting back. The ruling does not mean that trans people will be allowed to join the military again since the Supreme Court ruled last year that the ban could be implemented while the lawsuits against it work their way through the legal system. Judge Robert Wilkins, a Barack Obama-appointee, wrote for the court that the ban “appears to be driven by the bare desire to harm a politically unpopular group: persons who identify as transgender.” Wilkins was joined by Bill Clinton-appointee, the AP reports. Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Judge Justin Walker, who was appointed by Donald Trump, dissented, arguing that judges have “neither the expertise nor the authority” to determine who can join the military. Donald Trump signed an executive order in January 2025 banning transgender people from serving in the military. The order said that trans people are, by definition, unable to meet the military’s “high standards” and that having a gender identity that does not align with one’s sex assigned at birth is proof that a person cannot be “honorable, truthful, and disciplined.” Within two months, Reyes ruled against it, saying it violates trans servicemembers’ Fifth Amendment due process rights and “invokes derogatory language to target a vulnerable group.” “The cruel irony is that thousands of transgender servicemembers have sacrificed – some risking their lives – to ensure for others the very equal protection rights the military ban seeks to deny them,” Reyes, a Joe Biden appointee, wrote. “This is such a sigh of relief,” said Army Reserves 2nd Lt. Nicolas Talbott, the lead plaintiff in the case, at the time. “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do. This is my dream job, and I finally have it. And I was so terrified that I was about to lose it.” The government appealed the decision, leading to today’s appeals court decision. But in May 2025, the Supreme Court heard an appeal to an injunction against the trans military ban and ruled against it, allowing the Department of Defense to implement the ban while several lawsuits challenging it worked their way through the legal system. The Supreme Court ruled, along party lines, that Trump wasn’t banning a class of people but instead just people who are diagnosed with gender dysphoria, the condition that describes stress generated by dissonance between one’s gender identity and sex assigned at birth. Many trans people get diagnosed with gender dysphoria in order to access gender-affirming healthcare, like hormone replacement therapy. Judge Wilkins in today’s decision responded to that reasonsing, writing that Trump’s trans military ban “target[s] applicants and servicemembers who express what the Administration believes is a ‘false gender identity.'” He wrote, according to the Tampa Free Press, that the trans military ban goes beyond other medical policies that exclude people from military service due to their medical histories by also banning people who have transitioned in the past. Moreover, Wilkins wrote that the administration didn’t provide any factual evidence that people diagnosed with gender dysphoria can’t serve honorably. “The government abandoned all pretext of trying to craft sex-based classifications that were ‘sufficiently related’ to the legitimate government interests in ‘lethality, meritocracy, accountability, standards, and readiness,’” he wrote. “Those interests were dismissed as irrelevant—having the correct gender identity is all that matters.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -

On Sunday, a high-traffic X account shared a photo of Wilson’s new modeling campaign and wrote, “We should never forget that if not for Vivian, Elon Musk never would have gotten involved, never would have purchased Twitter, Kamala Harris would be President and the Left-wing would have total instrumental control over the construction of Skynet.” Related Ken Paxton’s first campaign ad calls James Talarico “too low-T” while avoiding policy issues Musk simply replied, “True.” Of course, it’s impossible to know if Musk is being sincere, but he has certainly made clear he does not support his daughter and is against trans rights. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Musk has repeatedly claimed Wilson’s trans identity is caused by the “woke mind virus,” claiming in one 2024 interview that he had “lost his son” and that they call it deadnaming because “your son is dead.” In an interview that same year, Wilson said that growing up, her father would berate her for any sign of gender nonconformity, including having a voice that was too high-pitched. She described him as “cold,” “very quick to anger,” and “uncaring and narcissistic.” True— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) May 31, 2026 Last year, Wilson told Teen Vogue that the notion that her trans identity turned her father into a right-wing zealot is “insane.” “It’s such a convenient narrative, that the reason he turned right is because I’m a f**king tr*nny, and that’s just not the case. That’s not what that does to people. Him going further on the right, and I’m going to use the word ‘further’ — make sure you put ‘further’ in there — is not because of me.” Wilson had previously slammed her father’s biographer, Walter Isaacson, for pointing to Wilson’s transition and her teenage behavior as fuel that moved Musk to the right – and for deadnaming her throughout the book. “I was treated as a VILLAIN BACKSTORY-ORIGIN to excuse or explain away his behavior,” Wilson wrote. “As if my whole existence was nothing but an inconvenience to HIM. My identity was trivialized, my reasons for seperation were misconstrued, and I was treated as naïve; stupid, unfairly unforgiving and unreasonably moralistic.” Just last month, Ashley St. Clair, the mother of Elon Musk’s son, Romulus, slammed Musk for putting Wilson in danger by posting transphobic messages about her to his massive social media platform. “STOP tweeting YOUR CHILDREN IN THIS WAY!” she wrote on her Instagram story. “This is just NOT OK and IMO a promotion of violence against trans individuals.” St. Clair explained that whenever Musk posts about her, threats against her family grow, whether he says something positive or negative. “Now why in the f**k when you know this would you repeatedly harass and target your OWN CHILD on the platform you own? I am just sick of this sh*t.” I am sick of pretending like any of this is ok. I am sick that I enabled individuals who think it’s acceptable for a grown a** man to endanger the life of his child because he is so angry at this adult child having a life of her own.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -
APNEWS.COMA key hearing for the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk will be public, judge rulesTyler Robinson, left, accused in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, appears during a hearing in the 4th District Court in Provo, Utah, Tuesday, May 19, 2026. (Trent Nelson/The Salt Lake Tribune via AP, Pool)2026-06-01T04:37:00Z SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Reporters and the public will be allowed to attend a key upcoming hearing for the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk, after a Utah judge on Monday denied a defense request to restrict access.Tyler Robinson’s defense team had asked Judge Tony Graf to close portions of the preliminary hearing on July 6-10, when prosecutors must show they have enough evidence to warrant a trial. It will mark the most significant presentation of evidence to date in a case that has so far focused on matters of media access.“The public and the media enjoy a presumptive right to access court proceedings, including preliminary hearings,” Graf said during his ruling. He said the defense hadn’t shown that presenting the evidence publicly would deny Robinson a fair trial.Robinson’s lawyers have tried to guard against media coverage that they say sometimes misrepresents their client, as his case has drawn tremendous public attention. The 23-year-old from southwestern Utah is charged with aggravated murder in the Sept. 10 assassination of Kirk on the Utah Valley University campus. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty if Robinson is convicted. He has not yet entered a plea. Prosecutors argued that the preliminary hearing should remain open, but they agreed with the defense that media should be limited from viewing or copying some exhibits that could be used in a future trial. They plan to introduce forensic analyses, surveillance video, recordings of witness statements, autopsy findings and alleged messages from Robinson admitting to the crime. Read More Authorities have said DNA consistent with Robinson’s was found on the trigger of the rifle used to kill Kirk, the fired cartridge casing, two unfired cartridges and a towel used to wrap the rifle. Prosecutors also have said Robinson left a note for his romantic partner that read, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.” Graf also granted defense attorneys’ request for a hearing on June 12 in which they will argue that prosecutors should be punished for comments they made in the media. Robinson’s lawyers have said one prosecutor, Christopher Ballard, essentially went on a “media tour” in which he made “expressions of opinion as to Mr. Robinson’s guilt.”Prosecutors responded to the claims last month, saying Ballard had a right to correct misinformation in the media about an inconclusive, preliminary finding by ballistics experts, which led to speculation about Robinson’s possible exoneration. They said Ballard did not make any statement of opinion about guilt. HANNAH SCHOENBAUM Schoenbaum is a national reporter for The Associated Press, based Salt Lake City, Utah. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow do the Boston Celtics rebuild around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown if they keep both? How do the Boston Celtics rebuild around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown if they keep both of their supermax star forwards? There has been a lot of chatter around dealing away Brown in particular, and his considerable cap hit in the league's current, punitive collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is a large part of the reason why.But what if Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and the rest of the front office instead elected to keep the Jays together in spite of the constraints their outside salaries create for building the next contention era of the team? Is there a way to rebuild this core back into a bona fide contender given the resources Boston has to work with moving forward? The folks behind the "NESN" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Boston Has Entered the Chat" podcast that tries to answer all of the above. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. For nearly two full months, the Boston Red Sox's offense was a disaster.Over their first 47 games through May 18, the Red Sox averaged just 3.62 runs per game. They ranked 29th in runs, 29th in home runs, 29th in slugging percentage, 27th in wOBA and 30th in wRC+. They were arguably the worst offense in baseball and went nine straight games without exceeding three runs -- their longest such streak since 2012.Over the last two weeks, however, Boston's lineup has finally found its groove. By wRC+, the last two weeks have been the team's two best offensive weeks this season. The Red Sox just finished their second best offensive week of the season with a team wide wRC+ of 122 with a wOBA of .354Their best week of the season was.. the week before which saw them post a wRC+ of 122 and a wOBA of .355 pic.twitter.com/ejGhc93fSr— Justin (@JustinMLB) June 1, 2026Since May 19, the Red Sox's offense has been one of the best in baseball. Aided by strong bench production and the resurgences of Jarren Duran and Caleb Durbin, they've ranked first in batting average, first in OBP, fifth in slugging percentage, third in wOBA, fourth in wRC+ and ninth in runs. It's been a stunning and much-needed turnaround for Boston, which has averaged 5.55 runs per game during that span. Unfortunately, the Red Sox haven't capitalized as hoped, going 5-6 during that stretch. On the plus side, their offense is humming as they enter one of the most critical stretches of their season. They have three straight series against AL East opponents coming up and a whopping 16 divisional games this month, so they'll need to keep swinging the bats well if they want to make up some ground in the standings. They also need to hit better at Fenway Park, where they'll play nine of their next 15 games. Their recent stretch inspires confidence they'll be able to do that. More MLB: Red Sox Star Catching Fire At Ideal Time Ahead Of Crucial Stretch0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Browns a "hard no" on Denzel Ward being available for tradeCleveland's best defensive player is on the way out of Northeast Ohio after the Browns agreed to trade Myles Garrett to the Rams on Monday. Is another elite defender going to depart the Browns, too? According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the answer is no. Cleveland is not planning a proverbial fire sale, as Fowler reports the Browns are a "hard no" on making cornerback Denzel Ward available via trade. Ward, 29, was the No. 4 overall pick of the 2017 draft, the year after Cleveland selected Myles Garrett at No. 1 overall. He is a five-time Pro Bowler, having been selected in each of the last three seasons. In his 110 games with 107 starts, Ward has registered 18 interceptions with 104 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries.Cleveland may not have interest in trading Ward now. But after G.M. Andrew Berry said earlier this offseason that Garrett would be a “career Brown,” nothing is completely off the table when it comes to potential deals.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKnicks 'rich beyond belief' playing in NBA Finals with respect from fans, says Karl-Anthony TownsIn his second season with the New York Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns became a target for disgruntled fans who saw him struggling on offense and thought he could be a trade piece for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Yet Towns eventually found his comfort zone in head coach Mike Brown’s offensive scheme, embracing more of a playmaking role, and the Knicks have become a juggernaut that is now four wins away from the franchise’s first NBA championship in more than 50 years.New York has embraced the basketball team it’s always loved, even when the Knicks didn’t reward that devotion. And the players are feeling that love, basking in the admiration of the nation’s largest city as Towns gushed to reporters on Monday. “It’s been an honor to be a part of this team, be a part of this organization that’s bringing the word ‘hope’ back to the city,” Towns said. Towns said. “To have the respect of the fans in the city, we are rich beyond belief here in the city."Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentThat echoes the comments Towns made after the Knicks finished off the Cleveland Cavaliers to earn their the team’s first trip to the NBA Finals since 1999. A New Jersey native, Towns said it was an “honor” to be part of this Knicks team that was bringing “hope” back to New York. This season, Towns averaged 20.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 37% on 307 3-point attempts. In the postseason, he’s scoring 16.9 points and grabbing 10.6 rebounds per game, also dishing out 5.9 assists and shooting 49% on 3s.Those numbers were down slightly from Towns’ output last season. But he was still named an All-Star and the Knicks have now advanced farther in the playoffs. That has quieted any talk of using Towns as a trade piece. The Knicks will also look smarter for it if they win an NBA title with their center playing a key role. Teammate Landry Shamet also had big praise for Knicks fans, calling them “a specific species of human that should be studied.” According to Shamet, Knicks fans are a "specific species of human that should be studied" and that is a perfect summary of this fanbase.“They take over arenas. Everywhere you walk in the city, that's what you hear,” he said after the playoff series win over the Cavs. “The buzz is unbelievable."0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNCAA calls Texas Tech football QB Brendan Sorsby a 'serial violator'An attorney for the NCAA said in a Lubbock court that an addiction alibi is no grounds for allowing Brendan Sorsby to rejoin the Texas Tech football team this season. If Sorsby is permitted to do so, the attorney said, it would make the NCAA the first major sports league in the United States to tacitly approve a player betting on his own team."Turning this on its head and saying the NCAA is now the first league in America that allows you, without punishment, to bet on its own contests, that's a reputable harm to the NCAA," Taylor Askew said. "This would be the first league in America that does that. ... We should not say for the first time serial gambling is OK."Sorsby, an acknowledged gambling addict, was not present at the two-hour hearing on Monday, June 1, in Lubbock's 99th District Court. He's seeking an injunction allowing him to play this season after the NCAA ruled him permanently ineligible.More: Brendan Sorsby betting continued into time as Texas Tech football QBMore: What does Will Hammond's return to Texas Tech football 7-on-7 imply? The NCAA found that Sorsby made thousands of impermissible wagers totaling at least $90,000 over the past four years and that he did so at each of his college stops: in 2022 and 2023 at Indiana, in 2024 and 2025 at Cincinnati and continuing since January at Texas Tech. All of it violates NCAA rules that prohibit gambling on any college or professional sport the NCAA sponsors."You don't say, 'This guy who got a DUI was an alcoholic, so let's mitigate that.' No. He's violated the law," Askew said. "Can he get treatment? Sure, and we hope he does, and he should, but that doesn't mean that the rule wasn't broken."Sorsby recently completed a monthlong addiction treatment program in Arizona."The whole case [for an injunction]," Askew said, "rises on him being such a serial violator of the rules that it somehow creates some exception to the consequences. That doesn't make any sense."Presiding Judge Ken Curry heard two hours of arguments from Jeffrey Kessler, the lead plaintiff attorney, and Askew, who's leading the defense for the NCAA. Curry adjourned the court shortly after 11 a.m., with no indication of when he'd rule. In addition to oral arguments, attorneys presented him with a large quantity of exhibits to consider.Kessler began his 48-minute opening statement by telling the court the NCAA has failed to live up to its contractual commitments, both in its constitution and in its regulations regarding the reinstatement process. He said the NCAA is violating its own principle in Sorsby's case to not discriminate against or disparage an athlete because of his physical or mental health. In addition to the gambling addiction, Sorsby's been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.Kessler cited a supporting statement from an addiction clinician that Sorsby's ongoing recovery could best be achieved with the structure his team provides. "This case, I think, is badly misunderstood by a lot of people," Kessler said after the hearing. "It's very important that everyone understand that it is undisputed that (Sorsby) never did any betting to compromise the integrity of his team, the bets he made on his team was when he was not participating in that team and he never bet again to do that. "And what this case is about is when you have no threat to competitive integrity, but you have a mental illness of gambling addiction, which is plaguing — plaguing — student-athletes across the country, the NCAA said in its policies it would consider that it would support the athlete and instead they want to punish him. That's wrong. We think it's illegal and we hope the court will agree."A court filing from the NCAA on Friday showed that during the first two months of the 2022 season, Sorsby made at least 40 impermissible wagers on the Indiana football team or prop bets on Hoosiers players, all to exceed expectations. At the time, he was a freshman, on the scout team with no chance of getting into games. Kessler said Sorsby did not attempt to influence, alter or compromise the outcome of those games. When he was promoted to backup status in November 2022, Sorsby ceased gambling on IU football. However, Askew took issue with Kessler's assertion that the NCAA didn't consider Sorsby to pose an integrity risk."There's been a lot made about, well, the NCAA has stipulated there were no integrity concerns," Askew told the judge. "Respectfully, that is Mr. Sorsby creating his own definition of integrity concerns."If you look at footnote 1 on the second page of the stipulated facts, it talks about how Mr. Sorsby placed bets on opposing players who were playing against Indiana's basketball team to overachieve during the game. That's an integrity concern. That's betting against your institution."A Texas Tech request for Sorsby's reinstatement, filed May 19, was denied by the NCAA on May 22. Texas Tech filed an appeal on Friday, May 29. Kessler called the NCAA's handling of the case "arbitrary and capricious" regarding the denial of Sorsby's reinstatement."The chance for reinstatement, which applies in this case, is that the NCAA Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement will use the student-first philosophy," Kessler said, "ensuring the individual student-athlete is at the forefront of each decision. ... They committed to evaluate the totality of the circumstances in each case so you reach an outcome that considers the wellbeing of the involved student-athlete."That's the commitment they violated, and all we have to show on a motion is that we have evidence that tends to support that."Should Curry deny the injunction, Sorsby could petition the NFL for a supplemental draft. That deadline is coming up in three weeks.Kessler told the judge, however, that upholding the NCAA's ban would cause irreparable harm to Sorsby, inasmuch as he'd miss his last year of college competition. He said that's a unique experience, unlike the NFL."There will be no harm to the NCAA [in letting Sorsby play]," Kessler said, "except its hurt pride and its arrogance that it doesn't want any court to tell it what to do, even though, frankly, the Supreme Court has told it, it has to follow what the courts tell it to do."Askew said "there's no victory lap" by the NCAA in taking down Sorsby. No one wants to be in the situation, he said. Rules are rules, though, he said, and Sorsby has already received an unwarranted benefit by continuing to play as he gambled."He's played for Indiana," Askew said. "He's played for Cincinnati. He's transferred to Texas Tech. He should not have been allowed to. The only reason that he has been is because the substance of his actions were not found out until law enforcement tipped off a sportsbook, who tipped off the NCAA."So if we're talking about avoiding irreparable harm, he should not even have been playing these last few years."In countering an argument from Sorsby's support team that athletes with gambling addictions won't come forward to seek help in the future if Sorsby's banned, Askew said, "Mr. Sorsby didn't come forward. He got caught, and when he got caught, then he went to treatment and that's the first time you heard about this mental health concern. ... He was found out by law enforcement and that's what triggered this."Texas Tech announced Sorsby's taking leave from the team to enter gambling-addiction treatment on April 27. The timestamp on Tech's announcement was identical to the timestamp on an ESPN story that revealed the NCAA had opened an investigation into Sorsby's gambling. That came 10 days after Sorsby threw four touchdown passes in the Red Raiders' spring game. The Avalanche-Journal's Gabriel Monte contributed to this report. This article originally appeared on Lubbock Avalanche-Journal: NCAA: 'We should not say serial gambling is OK' in Brendan Sorsby case0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNorth Central's Cy Street keeps LN off balance, clinching second-straight sectional titleNorth Central right-handed sophomore pitcher Cy Street is named after legendary former major league pitcher Cy Young, the man whose name adorns the award for the best pitcher in the National and American leagues, the Cy Young Award.Street's parents envisioned their child becoming a pitcher, and the righty set about becoming the best pitcher he could be from an early age, including hours upon hours of practice working on off-speed pitches with North Central pitching coach Andrew Dutkanych. Dutkanych knows plenty about talented pitchers; his son, former Brebeuf Jesuit star Andrew Dutkanych IV, was drafted out of Vanderbilt in the seventh round by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024.Street throws two breaking balls, a slider and a curveball, and his ability to command both pitches helped the Panthers clinch their second straight Class 4A Sectional 10 title Monday against Lawrence North. In the bottom of the seventh in a 2-2 count, Street got LN outfielder Amari Moore to swing over the top of his curveball, recording his seventh strikeout of the game and clinching the 5-4 victory for the Panthers.Street went the distance allowing five walks, three hits and zero earned runs."The confidence (in off-speed pitches) comes from constant work in the lab," Street said. "Years and years of practice and it worked out for the team. Since I was a kid, I always knew I wanted to be a pitcher. ... Working on (pitch) grips, intent, attitude, mindset, everything."With one out in the seventh, Street walked pinch-hitter Luke Tatum. With the winning run at the plate, Street retired the next two batters to end the game. The 5-foot-7, 175-pound righty stayed poised after a shaky start to the game. Street committed consecutive errors on attempted pickoffs, allowing lead-off hitter Oliver Glanzman to advance to third. The sophomore regrouped, recording nine straight outs before LN scored two in the fifth and once in the sixth. Street entered the seventh with his pitch count at 93 pitches, but Dutkanych told North Central head coach Andy McClain to let the young pitcher finish out the game."High school pitchers, if you throw your breaking ball in the zone for a strike, you're going to be pretty darn good and (Street) was good," Lawrence North coach Jason Taulman said. "A lot of high school guys want to throw that breaking ball out of the zone, and guys usually don't chase it out of the zone."He did a nice job, he was in the zone, and it worked really well for him."North Central retook the lead in the third on two Lawrence North errors. Cole Kreinhagen added an RBI double in the sixth and came home to score on an error. Christian Krupa's RBI single scored Tyler Jaynes for the winning run in the seventh.Carson Maskel led LN with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Glanzman drove in one with a bases-loaded walk in the fifth. Carter Nahre entered in relief and slowed down the Panthers, striking out five over five innings.North Central awaits the winner of the Sectional 11 championship game between Avon and Brownsburg. The regional will be played on Saturday."It takes all of us, and everybody contributes in every way possible," McClain said. "We've got a tremendous coaching staff. His footprint spans every corner of the country, from Arizona and Texas in the Sun Belt to Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia in the heartland. The reasons are well-documented: a career built on physical intimidation, flagrant fouls, and an abrasive personality that opponents and neutral fans alike find impossible to root for. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTorres Nearing Tigers Return for Tuesday vs. RaysGleyber Torres has started his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, and that puts the Detroit Tigers’ second-base situation in play for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rays. The May 30 transaction moved him into game action, and the Tigers have a chance to get a regular infielder and right-handed bat back early this week.Detroit has not confirmed an activation for Tuesday. Still, the timing matters. If Torres is ready, the Tigers can slide him back to second base, tighten the infield mix, and bring his bat back into the lineup after nearly a month away.Rehab assignment puts the roster decision in motionThe club placed Torres on the 10-day injured list on May 6, retroactive to May 4, with a mild left oblique strain, and the team’s injury update listed his return as early to mid-June. That same update had him scheduled to start at second base for Toledo on May 30.A.J. Hinch said the infielder is fully healthy but still needs to get his timing back. That makes these Toledo at-bats important for more than simple clearance. The Tigers need to know if Torres is ready for regular defensive work and major league plate appearances. What Detroit would get backBefore the injury, Torres had played in 32 games and was batting .259 with two home runs and 11 RBIs, based on his 2026 game log. He has not appeared in a big league game since May 2.His return would give the Detroit Tigers a more natural setup on the dirt. Plugging Torres back in at second base would restore a regular option there and give the lineup another experienced bat as the Tigers open a new series. Why Tuesday is still not locked inThe path back was not perfectly smooth. During his recovery, he took a four-day break from swinging after the oblique area continued to bother him, which left his timetable less certain before the rehab assignment began, as detailed here. That earlier delay is why Detroit still needs to see how Torres comes through game action. The rehab assignment shows progress, but the available reporting still stops short of confirming he will be activated for Tuesday. If Torres is cleared in time, the Tigers can open the Tampa Bay series with their usual second baseman back in place and a cleaner infield rotation. If he needs more days in Toledo, Detroit heads into Tuesday still patching together second base while waiting for those rehab reps to turn into a roster move.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGolden State Warriors 2025-26 player grades: Moses MoodyEntering his fifth season in the NBA, all with the Warriors, former Arkansas Razorback Moses Moody averaged over 20 minutes per game for the second time in his career. After making 57 career starts through his first four seasons, Moody made 49 during the 2025-26 campaign alone, appearing in 60 games in total. In those games, Moody's numbers and efficiency improved despite the increase in volume and playing time. During the year the former No. 14 overall selection averaged a career-high 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, one steal and 0.6 blocks. He also improved his 3-point percentage to over 40% for the first time in his career. Unfortunately for Moody and the Warriors, he tore his patellar tendon in late March, sidelining him for the rest of the year and, at best, most of next season as well. Moody currently has two years remaining on his current contract. Given his injury, Golden State could apply for a Disabled Player Exception (DPE), allowing them flexibility to spend above the salary cap.Overall grade: A-This article originally appeared on Warriors Wire: Warriors 2025-26 player grades: Moses Moody0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNico Rosberg reveals major mental change behind 2016 Lewis Hamilton clashMotorsport photo2016 Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg has admitted that his infamous on-track collisions with Lewis Hamilton were sometimes the result of a deliberate, psychological decision to stop yielding and shed his natural tendency to be "too nice" on track. The 2016 title battle between the Mercedes team-mates remains one of the most fiercely contested intra-team rivalries in the history of the championship. While reflecting on the 2016 season on the High Performance podcast, Rosberg explained, when asked if he had to stop being himself: "Oh, totally, because the real Nico Rosberg is way too nice. I had to push and be tougher sometimes, even though it didn't come naturally to me."The former driver drew comparisons with McLaren driver Lando Norris's battles with Red Bull ace Max Verstappen."And again, you have the same example with Lando," Rosberg continued. "Lando, generally, people will say he's just too nice. In wheel-to-wheel battles, he has always lost against Max. In the last year, in every wheel-to-wheel battle against Max, he lost out. What Lando needs to do once is just hold his ground, cause a crash."And that will send a message to Max. 'Oh, he's changing, he's becoming more ferocious. Maybe I need to calm it down a bit next time against him because otherwise we're going to crash.' And you just have to do that."Going back to his own 2016 championship title fight, the 40-year-old discussed his own crashes with the now-seven-time champion. World Champion Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG F1 shakes hands with team mate and race winner Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes AMG F1World Champion Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG F1 shakes hands with team mate and race winner Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes AMG F1"We crashed. And that's just me consciously saying I have to be more firm. I have to not yield as I would. Naturally, I would yield like I did so often before that and I had to push myself hard."It was part of my visualisation, the repetitions that I was doing in meditation. I was working very hard on that, visualising myself not yielding and being firm in my position. That was a strong part of my visualisation and even I was meditating with posture."You meditate with a posture of strength, and it's all these details that add up, and then in the heat of the moment, that preparation helps to hold your ground and not yield and unfortunately, then of course it led to quite a few crashes."Rosberg went on to win the drivers' championship in 2016 by five points over his team-mate, and retired at the end of the same year.To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBoston Celtics alum Keyon Dooling opens up about his involvement in NBA insurance fraudA lot of fans of the Boston Celtics did not understand how former players for their favorite team could get involved in an insurance fraud scheme given how much money they made in the NBA. Some of those Celtics alumni even ended up in prison for their role in the scandal. Among them we can count Boston floor general alum Keyon Dooling, who recently finished his bid, and took some time to talk about that massive mistake with The Players Tribune."I asked myself, like, how did I get here?" said Dooling. "Will I ever be able to recover from this? ... I knew that I had done wrong. I had convinced myself that I was, I'm not doing this out of greed. I'm doing this to help my family. That's where I told myself the wrong story. When I first got into the league, I think I was a young player just trying to find myself. I think a lot of times our relationship to money when we first come into it is like as an ATM machine ... I was accustomed to living a certain way and not making what I was making prior to that. And I saw an easy way to tap into some of the resources that I thought nobody would look at.""At the time, I didn't think it was a big deal at all," he added. "My first conversation with the doctor, he would swipe my supplemental health care benefits card and he would, you know, basically give five hundred and I would get five hundred. If somebody was struggling or anything like that, I even connected them with the doctors. I have to be real, I didn't stop initially because I was able to do it again and I was able to do it again. And so I didn't stop.""I got the call from the feds at about 5: 30 ... in the morning (...)," said Dooling. "They just bum-rushed in, my kids in their sleep, they're walking all in my house with shoes on. So I told him , 'Hey man, look, my kids are downstairs sleeping -- take me in the car now. I don't want them to have to see me like this'. And so they put me in the car, took me away and that was my first time being arrested (...) This pain feels different, because it's pain that self-imposed pain. I put myself and my family in a bad position. I didn't need the money. It was more so not wanting to face the real truths about our lifestyle changing."Now out of prison, Dooling admits his mistake. "It wasn't justifiable. It was greed. I don't blame anybody who introduced me to it or anything like that. I assume my responsibility in the whole act ... It feels a lot more free to be transparent and honest about where I am, what I have done, and it puts accountability out there. It also puts the acceptance of wearing the mistake. I ain't running from it. I ain't scared of it. It is what it is."Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on:Blue Wire: https://tiny.ee/CdKpiTunes: https://tiny.ee/RK47YouTube: https://tiny.ee/cOW3This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Celtics alum Keyon Dooling opens up about involvement in NBA insurance fraud0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEagles trade A.J. Brown to Patriots in exchange for reported 2028 first-round pickBrown has spent the past four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. (Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images)A.J. Brown had a few moments of visible frustration on the Philadelphia Eagles' sideline during the 2025 season. Those blowups, combined with diminishing production in the past two seasons, resulted in Brown's time with the team coming to a premature end.The Eagles traded Brown to the New England Patriots on Monday, the Patriots announced. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles will receive a 2028 first-round pick and 2027 fifth-round pick in return. While Brown, 28, appeared at odds with the Eagles at various points over his career, things seemed to come to a head during the 2025 season. With Brown struggling to put up his usual numbers early in the season, the wideout had multiple instances in which he complained — either cryptically or behind closed doors — about the team's performance.Things appeared to reach an inflection point during the Eagles' wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, when cameras captured Brown and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni yelling at each other on the sideline. Sirianni downplayed the moment after the game. Brown did not meet with the media after the loss.It was a frustrating game for Brown, who finished with just 25 receiving yards. He caught just three of his seven targets in the 23-19 loss and had at least three bad drops in the game.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentThose struggles proved to be emblematic of Brown's 2025 season, which saw him post his lowest receiving total — 1,003 yards — since joining the Eagles. Brown also posted a 64.5 catch rate in 2025, his lowest total in three seasons. All of those factors resulted in rumors suggesting Brown could be traded over the offseason. Those rumors got some validity in February, when Sirianni and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman implied Brown's return to Philadelphia for the 2026 season was not a guarantee. Those comments proved to be a harbinger for the trade.Shortly after those comments, reports emerged suggesting Brown would be traded to the Patriots … but not until June 2. Due to the way Brown’s contract was structured, the Eagles can take a much smaller dead-cap hit if Brown was traded on or after that date. In order to make an NFL transaction, the move must be in by 4 p.m. ET on that day. Because of that, Brown can technically be traded any time after 4 p.m. ET on June 1 and it would count as a June 2 trade. That’s why analysts expected Brown to get moved Monday. With both teams holding out until June 2, the Eagles can now spread out Brown’s dead-cap hit over the next two seasons. When healthy — and happy — Brown has performed like one of the best receivers in the NFL. After some promising early seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Brown was traded to the Eagles ahead of the 2022 season.Over the next two seasons, Brown averaged 97 catches, 1,476 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl both years, was named to the second-team All-Pro team and received down-ballot votes for MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2022.Brown was on pace to post similar numbers in 2024, but hamstring and knee issues limited him to 13 games. He was still good enough in limited work to make the second-team All-Pro team for the third straight season.Things fell apart for both Brown and the Eagles in 2025. After losing offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the entire Eagles' offense dropped from seventh in scoring in 2024 to 19th in 2025. Kevin Patullo was promoted to the role, where he lasted just one season. In his only year as the team's offensive coordinator, the Eagles faced criticism for a lack of innovation.Because of that, Brown struggled to put up his usual numbers. Despite playing in two more games in 2025, Brown failed to exceed his 2024 yardage total. He averaged just 66.9 yards per game, his lowest total since 2021.A few months before the start of the 2024 season, Brown signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles. That extension won't kick in until the 2027 season, meaning Brown is currently signed through 2029. Because of that, the Eagles were reportedly asking a lot for the wideout in trade talks. With the trade, a bounce-back season could be on the horizon for Brown. If Brown's struggles in 2025 were mostly due to playing in a dysfunctional offense, and not a sign of decline, the wideout could still provide multiple years of elite production before his contract is up.In a breakdown of teams that improved specific units this offseason, Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice said this is how the Patriots’ offense will improve with their addition of Brown:Brown is a proven difference maker against any type of coverage and in multiple offenses. … while [Romeo] Doubs has been effective on outbreakers and stop routes, Brown fills out the rest of the route tree with his downfield ability and whenever he wants to tap into the Fountain of YAC in which he bathed himself at the beginning of his career. It remains to be seen if Brown’s drop in speed last year was because of injuries, age or disinterest, or maybe a combination. Perhaps fresh surroundings will help inject another surge in performance while playing with [Drake] Maye. Even a slightly diminished Brown will be easily the most talented receiver on the Patriots’ roster. And his downfield and explosive play potential on inbreakers will fit in perfectly with Maye’s aggression, while also pushing the rest of New England’s pass catchers into better roles as complementary pieces. This story will be updated.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIs a post-June 1 move on the horizon for the Panthers?June 1 may become yet another must-see annual event for the NFL.The post-June 1 designation officially went into effect on Monday, where we witnessed a flurry of activity. From the New York Giants bringing back three-time Pro Bowl wideout Odell Beckham Jr. to the Los Angeles Rams somehow swinging a deal for Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the New England Patriots' reportedly closing in on Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown, the league was quite busy throughout the day.So, will the Carolina Panthers join in on the fun?Well, maybe we shouldn't set any expectations. In the view of The Charlotte Observer's Mike Kaye, the defending NFC South champs seem content in what they're working with heading into the new month. Here's what Kaye posted to Twitter/X this morning:#Panthers GM Dan Morgan and EVP of FO Brandt Tilis haven't really taken advantage of the post-June 1 rules to this point in their joint tenure.I wouldn't expect that to change to this week. The read here is that they feel good about all the guys who would arguably be involved.— Mike Kaye (@mike_e_kaye) June 1, 2026This time of year usually brings about some releases for teams looking to free up some extra salary cap space. While both seem unlikely to this point, two cut candidates for the Panthers could include tight end Tommy Tremble ($4 million in savings) and outside linebacker Pat Jones II ($4.75 million).Carolina might also be keeping tabs on who is let go elsewhere. Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet, whose services may no longer be needed after the emergence of 2025 first-round pick Colston Loveland, has been repeatedly linked to the Panthers over the past few months. But, again, don't get your hopes up, Panthers fans. Morgan and Tilis still appear to be intent on staying the course.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: NFL offseason: Will the Panthers make a post-June 1 move?0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 52 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTitans' WR Carnell Tate named one of NFL's most important rookiesThe expectations surrounding Tennessee Titans rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate continue to grow before he has even played an NFL snap. The fourth overall pick of the 2026 NFL draft has impressed in OTAs and is widely expected to be a big-time contributor in his debut season.NFL.com editor Gennaro Filice included Tate among the league's 12 rookies who need to succeed immediately in 2026. While that designation may sound like added pressure, it also speaks to how important Tate is to Tennessee's plans for the future. Here's what he had to say about Tate:The future is now for Carnell TateTate's selection came as a surprise, but he was drafted because they believed he could become a foundational piece of the offense. The Titans viewed him as the type of receiver who could help accelerate the development of franchise quarterback Cam Ward, while growing alongside him. That responsibility naturally places Tate among the NFL's most important rookies.Unlike many rookie receivers who enter the league as complementary options, Tate is expected to play a significant role immediately. His ability to win on the outside, create separation, and make contested catches should provide Ward with a reliable target from Day 1. Also, he will have the luxury of playing beside veterans Wan'Dale Robinson and Calvin Ridley, who have had success in the league.Tennessee also has reason to believe Tate is prepared for the challenge. He demonstrated the route-running polish, body control, and football intelligence necessary to make an early impact at the professional level while at Ohio State. For a franchise building around a young quarterback, few rookies carry more importance than Carnell Tate entering the 2026 season. This article originally appeared on Titans Wire: Titans' WR Carnell Tate named one of NFL's most important rookies0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMInstant grades for Patriots acquiring A.J. Brown via tradeMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - OCTOBER 19: A.J. Brown #11 of the Philadelphia Eagles warms up before the game against the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on October 19, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 28-22. (Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images) | Getty Images For the first time since taking over as the New England Patriots’ quasi-general manager in 2024, Eliot Wolf has swung a trade for a player. And it is a big one: after months of speculation, the reigning AFC champions have acquired wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade with the Eagles in exchange for a 2028 first-round draft pick and a 2027 fifth-rounder.Let’s put a grade on the move based on the information we have available.Instant grades: Patriots acquire WR A.J. Brown via tradeBernd Buchmasser: Brown is getting up there in age and has plenty of football under his belt, but he has the potential to have a transformative effect on Drake Maye and the Patriots passing offense. Yes, giving up a first-rounder is a serious investment considering that he is about to turn 29 later this month, but the team knows what kind of player it is getting and feels confident in his abilities on and off the field. | Grade: BAndrew Guindon: The Patriots have long needed a top receiver like A.J. Brown, who has plenty of Super Bowl experience. They’ve needed a significant upgrade even when Stefon Diggs was on the roster. Brown’s numbers have slipped the last two seasons (he missed four games in 2024), but the veteran was used in a short-to-intermediate role in an Eagles offense that leaned on the run game with Saquon Barkley more than in the air. A first-round pick even in 2028 is a heavy price, but a Drake Maye to Brown connection — especially in crucial moments — is a tandem difficult to pass up on. | Grade: A-Matt St. Jean: At the peak of his game, A.J. Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL with a skill set that pairs beautifully with Drake Maye’s game. He’s also available for a reason, with reported chronic knee issues and issues in the locker room of a championship team. By exchanging a first-round pick, Mike Vrabel is betting big that Brown will return to form and continue to elevate New England’s offense. If he swings and misses on this move, though, the Patriots will be giving up what could be a top-20 pick they would likely want to use to draft Brown’s replacement. This is a move made with the idea of being the finisher piece on a Super Bowl roster. Is that where New England’s roster is right now? Is that the kind of impact Brown can still provide? Clearly, the Patriots think the answer is yes. | Grade: C-What do you think about the Brown trade? Do you like it? Do you not? The field is pretty packed and I'm trying to give my best, I'm focusing on my game and I want to enjoy this win."Berrettini came through the longest match of his career in the previous round - saving two match points to win in five hours and 16 minutes - to signal injury issues might be a thing of the past. The 30-year-old showed no hangover from that performance during his encounter with Cerundolo, as he raced through the opening set and came through a tie-break in the second.Cerundolo threatened a fightback in the third when breaking for a 3-2 lead but Berrettini struck back for 5-5 and saved three match points before winning the tie-break.Auger-Aliassime enjoying 'dream' runFelix Auger-Aliassime has never previously gone beyond the fourth round at Roland Garros [Getty Images]Felix Auger-Aliassime, a two-time US Open semi-finalist, used his experience to come through a potentially tricky tie against Alejandro Tabilo 6-3 7-5 6-1.In theory, Chile's Tablio should have been the fresher of the competitors, having spent about six hours less on court last week after being handed a walkover in round two.Canada's Auger-Aliassime started strongly, though, breaking at 3-1 before the remainder of the opening set stayed on serve.Tabilo had never previously gone beyond the third round at a Slam but raised his level in the second. The 28-year-old, who celebrates his birthday on Tuesday, played aggressively from the baseline and it almost paid dividends as he looked to break for 5-4. But Auger-Aliassime raised his level to break for a 6-5 lead and served out the set to take full control.Tabilo wilted in the third and was broken three times as his hopes of a first major quarter-final spot were ended."Since I was 12 or 13 it has always been a dream for me to get this far," Auger-Aliassime said. "I am a French-speaking guy - I can say I am very, very happy to get your support and I hope I will have your support until the end."'The match is never done'Fourth seed Auger-Aliassime will face 10th seed Flavio Cobolli for a place in the semi-finals after the Italian beat Zachary Svajda 6-2 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (7-5).Cobolli looked on course for a routine victory after wrapping up the opening two sets in one hour and 25 minutes - breaking twice in each.Svajda, 23, finally found some rhythm in the third and came through a tie-break to get a foothold in the match.Cobolli immediately wrestled back control in the fourth, racing into a 4-0 lead, but Svajda - who had never previously gone beyond the second round of a Grand Slam - refused to give up.The American fought back from 5-1 down, breaking twice and saving match point, to force another tie-break, but Cobolli eventually got over the line to reach just his second Grand Slam quarter-final."The only thing that I understood today is that the match is never done," Cobolli said.Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEverton Are Eyeing This £27m Rated West Ham United Forward: The Right Profile For Moyes?Everton Are Eyeing This £27m Rated West Ham United Forward: The Right Profile For Moyes?Everton are among several Premier League clubs monitoring Taty Castellanos, with the Argentine expected to leave West Ham following their relegation from the top flight. According to Football Insider, former West Ham scout Mick Brown confirmed that Everton’s recruitment staff have been tracking the 27-year-old closely throughout the second half of the season.Everton eyeing West Ham forward as Castellanos’ exit from London Stadium looks certainCastellanos joined the London Stadium during the January transfer window and impressed under Nuno Espirito Santo, but he has no intention of playing Championship football next season. His social media message to supporters, while emotional and heartfelt, conspicuously avoided any mention of the 2026-27 season, which many interpreted as a clear signal that his time in east London is drawing to a close.“Castellanos is one I expect to leave West Ham,” Brown told Football Insider.“His agent will already be busy speaking to clubs trying to drum up interest and seeing who might be interested in his client; it’s always the way it works.“He’s popped up with a few goals and some good performances. I think he’s shown he’s good enough to play in the Premier League, so I have no doubt there will be interest.“Everton, for example, are in need of a new striker, and they could do far worse than him.“Their scouts and recruitment people will have been keeping an eye on his performances for West Ham, and they will have been impressed by what they’ve seen.“He’s shown he can score goals in the Premier League even for a struggling side, so somebody like Everton with their ambitions might be a good fit.“I think what he’s done at West Ham has shown he could do a job, and probably a better one than Beto and Barry have been doing.”Everton’s striking options and where Castellanos fits inLONDON, ENGLAND – MAY 24: Taty Castellanos of West Ham United celebrates his 1st goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leeds United at London Stadium on May 24, 2026 in London, England. (Photo by Richard Pelham/Getty Images)Compared to Everton’s current forwards, Castellanos edges both Beto and Thierno Barry on goals per game, registering 0.33 per match from 17 starts against Beto’s 0.24 and Barry’s 0.19 across the 2025-26 campaign. Brown told Football Insider that the striker has proven he can score consistently even for a struggling side, adding that somebody with Everton’s ambitions might represent a sensible next step for him.West Ham paid around £29 million to bring Castellanos from Lazio in January, though they are likely to take a loss on that fee given their reduced negotiating position following relegation. Everton are also exploring other options in the striker market, including Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus, though his reported wages of £265,000 per week would pose serious budgetary challenges for the club.Should David Moyes push hard for Everton’s next frontman this summer?Moyes does not have the luxury of patience here. Beto and Barry have given him a combined goal return that falls well short of what a club with European aspirations requires, and the numbers back that up plainly. Castellanos, by contrast, has done the hard thing, scoring goals for a side that was sinking week by week. There is a visible pattern to Everton’s reported targets this summer, with experienced Premier League operators appearing to sit at the top of the list. That approach has logic when squad continuity matters, and Castellanos fits squarely into that bracket. He arrives already acclimatised to English football, physically ready, and hungry to prove himself at a stable club. The risk of letting him pass is that Everton spend considerably more on someone less proven in the league, or worse, enter the season relying again on the same frontline that underwhelmed in 2025-26. Moyes should push for this one. Everton need goals, and on current evidence, Castellanos provides them more efficiently than what is already at Goodison Park.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр

Eagles trade receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots, setting up reunion with Mike VrabelFOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The Philadelphia Eagles traded wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots on Monday. Both teams announced the deal. The Eagles said they will receive a first-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027 in exchange for the three-time Pro Bowler. The trade comes after a frustrating 2025 season for Brown in Philadelphia, in which he had grown dispirited with an Eagles offense that played uninspired football at times while the team ultimately failed to defend its Super Bowl title.Brown's arrival in New England will be a reunion with coach Mike Vrabel, who Brown played under for three seasons after being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2019.Brown, 28, quickly rose to the top receiving option in Philadelphia after being traded by Tennessee to the Eagles in 2022.___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 51 Просмотры 0 предпросмотр
