SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCan Patriots Get A.J. Brown's Career Back On Track After Down Year? Can Patriots Get A.J. Brown's Career Back On Track After Down Year? originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New England Patriotsofficially traded for A.J. Brown on Monday, acquiring him from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for two draft picks. While the Patriots got one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, it's fair to wonder if he's already in decline. His receiving yards total has decreased every year since 2022, and his 12.9 yards per catch last season were a career low. He also turns 29 this month and is nearing the end of his physical prime.Fortunately, he's in a great spot to reverse those trends and bounce back with New England. The former Super Bowl champ gets to play with Drake Maye, who's one of the best deep ball passers in the league and was last year's NFL MVP runner-up.Maye is a significant quarterback upgrade over Jalen Hurts, who threw for nearly 1,200 fewer yards than Maye last season and is a far less prolific passer. What new Patriots WR A.J. Brown has to look forward to working with New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels: pic.twitter.com/yCMNkVHov5— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) June 2, 2026Brown should also benefit from working with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who has a long history of giving wide receivers a boost in their first season with him. Look no further than last year, when Stefon Diggs racked up 1,013 receiving yards and averaged his most yards per catch since 2022.Brown also gets to reunite with two-time NFL Coach of the Year in Mike Vrabel, who coached him for three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Vrabel has a good relationship with the three-time Pro Bowler and knows how to keep him happy and motivated.Accordingly, Brown seems poised for a big season with New England so long as he and Maye stay healthy. His production soared the last time he changed teams, so it won't be surprising if that happens again.More NFL: Patriots Insider Reveals Why A.J. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMShannon Sharpe Joins the Pile-On against J.J. McCarthyMark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsIf J.J. McCarthy is to win this summer’s quarterback battle against Kyler Murray and become the Minnesota Vikings’ QB1 in 2026, he will do so against the grain of public opinion. McCarthy spoke to reporters last week, acknowledging an active competition for the job and insisting it was not awkward, but that did little to tame folks’ reactions to his statement.Former NFLer Shannon Sharpe, among others, teed off on McCarthy, and that’s just how it will be — apparently — for the time being.Sharpe Questions McCarthy’s Public ApproachFormer NFL star and media personality Shannon Sharpe watches the NBA In-Season Tournament championship game between the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Lakers at T-Mobile Arena. Sharpe has become one of sports media’s most recognizable voices, regularly weighing in on NFL quarterbacks and league-wide storylines. Dec. 9, 2023. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports.Sharpe on McCarthyMcCarthy compared his relationship with Murray to high school coexistence at organized team activities — two guys vying for one job. That did not sit well with Sharpe.“It’s his fault. Had you played better, Kyler Murray’s services would not have been needed. The mere fact that they got Kyler Murray in there tells you everything you need to know, J.J. McCarthy. Don’t be mad at the coach, be mad at you,” Sharpe opined on his podcast, The Nightcap.“Your play brought this on, and guess where you’re going to be? He is going to be on the field; you’re going to be sitting on the bench.”Others, like ex-NFL passer Kurt Benkert and FantasyLife‘s Matthew Berry, offer similar critiques of McCarthy’s answers.See for YourselfMedia members were quick to ask McCarthy about his feelings on Murray’s arrival. Some were not impressed. It’s up to you to decide if these remarks were inflammatory:J.J. McCarthy spoke after practice Wednesday at Vikings OTAs. He believes it's an open competition despite the team signing Kyler Murray in the offseason."The organization made a decision that they feel like is going to improve the depth and the quality of the room. All I’m… pic.twitter.com/6Xe2GqutTZ— FOX 9 (@FOX9) May 27, 2026Given the amount of criticism leveled at McCarthy from Sharpe and others, he might’ve been better off lying and providing a more political answer. Instead, he revealed a candid answer about his emotions, while Murray’s reply sounded more like a man who’d been in the NFL for seven years. What’s on the Line for McCarthyTo assess McCarthy’s situation, one must first view it through the lens of Murray’s performance.Should Murray win the starting job, play effectively, and then secure a sweet contract extension from the Vikings, McCarthy’s future would suddenly become uncertain. While Minnesota has McCarthy under contract until the end of 2028 if it so chooses, removing any immediate urgency, justifying the retention of a former 1st-Round pick without a clear path to the starting quarterback position would be challenging. It would be particularly true if another team were to offer a decent draft pick next offseason via trade. Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell speaks with quarterback J.J. McCarthy during the first half of a road game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The interaction highlighted the growing relationship between Minnesota’s offensive architect and the young passer guiding the franchise forward. Sept. 8, 2025. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images.McCarthy can completely reverse this trajectory by outperforming Murray in training camp or by earning the starting role during the season. If that happens, everything reverts to the original plan. The Vikings drafted him to be their long-term quarterback after Kirk Cousins, and the smoothest outcome for everyone is McCarthy establishing himself as the franchise quarterback by 2026.Conversely, the situation could become considerably more complicated. If McCarthy receives a fair opportunity but still fails to make meaningful progress in his third year, the Vikings might not see a need for him beyond 2027. At that point, he would become a clear trade asset, especially if Murray has already proven himself to be more than just a temporary solution. Thus, McCarthy is not yet out of contention. He still has the clearer path to becoming the long-term starter if he wins the job. But if Murray truly takes charge this season, McCarthy could rapidly transition from a prospective franchise quarterback to a trade chip. The Stage Is SetThis particular quarterback situation in Minnesota has no shortage of intrigue. The Vikings aren’t simply choosing between a long-term gamble and a fading veteran whose time is clearly up. Both Murray and McCarthy are young enough to be long-term solutions, particularly McCarthy, and they both possess real personality. This isn’t a scenario where one player merely waits out an aging veteran; instead, it’s a battle featuring two dynamic, semi-young talents.Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy goes through pregame throwing drills before a divisional matchup against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. The young quarterback worked through footwork and timing exercises as Minnesota finalized preparations for an important NFC North showdown. Sept. 8, 2025. Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images. The betting market still sees Murray as the overwhelming favorite, with his odds hovering around -1000. That’s a loud number, suggesting the job is his unless something pretty dramatic happens in Eagan.McCarthy finished the 2025 season scorching hot, a fact that has been almost treated like an afterthought by some. Perhaps Sharpe undervalues him, or others prioritize Murray’s experience, ending the conversation there. No matter what, though, McCarthy showed enough late last season to keep the competition genuinely interesting.Quarterback uncertainty in July and August is rarely comfortable or ideal for a football team; for the Vikings, this version is particularly fascinating, even if Shannon Sharpe isn’t buying McCarthy’s upside.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMTrump’s latest check-up has this doctor wondering what’s really happening: “A few questions…”Nearly 80-year-old President Donald Trump underwent a medical check-up last week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, his third such check-up since April 2025. But Jonathan Reiner, the heart doctor of former Vice President Dick Cheney, said the White House’s three-page memo about the visit left several unanswered questions. The memo said the bruising on the back of Trump’s hands is due to frequent handshaking and noted that doctors advised the president to take low-dose aspirin, increase physical activity, and lose weight. (The memo said he weighs 238 pounds.) However, in a May 30 post on X, Reiner asked why doctors suggested that Trump take a dose of aspirin four times higher than what’s recommended for cardiovascular protection. Related Medical expert gives surprising sign Trump may have a heart issue Reiner also asked whether the White House medical team addressed Trump’s apparent daytime fatigue and sleepiness, which has been repeatedly documented by the media. Reiner also noted that, at the check-up, Trump took the fourth cognitive exam of his presidency. While Trump said the test results showed his “extreme intelligence,” The New York Times reported that the exam isn’t an intelligence test but is “meant to screen for signs of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or other conditions.” Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. APNEWS.COMFrom festering infections to untreated cancer, ICE detainees across the US describe medical neglectA person, who was detained at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Ga., and did not wish to be identified, poses for a portrait, April 22, 2026, in Flowery Branch, Ga. (AP Photo/Brynn Anderson)2026-06-02T13:02:09Z An Albanian man’s pain grew so unbearable, he said, he pulled out his own tooth as he languished for months in a New Mexico immigration detention center. A Honduran mother of two said she was hospitalized for a heart problem after she was denied blood pressure medications while held in Florida. A Venezuelan man said his leg grew purple and swollen from flesh-eating bacteria when staffers at a Vermont facility did not bring him to a scheduled doctor’s appointment.Hundreds of detainees across at least 33 states allege in federal lawsuits that immigration detention facilities are failing to provide adequate medical care, an investigation by KFF Health News and The Associated Press found. Detainees say they didn’t get medications on time — or at all — for conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and HIV. Requests for help went unanswered for weeks. Blood sugars rose. Infections festered. Cancers remained untreated. Detainees collapsed and had seizures. U.S. jails and immigration detention centers have long struggled to meet the medical needs of the people in their charge. But the system is sagging under an influx of detentions since President Donald Trump returned to office: More than 75,000 immigrants were being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as of mid-January, up from around 40,000 a year earlier. KFF Health News and AP analyzed thousands of court cases filed since Trump’s second inauguration that use a legal route known as habeas corpus to argue people are being held illegally by ICE. The records offer a rare window into how those detained say — often under penalty of perjury — ICE is handling their medical needs. Reporters also interviewed more than 50 detainees, family members and lawyers. Read More The investigation revealed that medical neglect is alleged across the sprawling detention system, including in offices not designed to house people, county jails and quickly staged sites with nicknames such as “Alligator Alcatraz.” ICE custody is deadlier than it has been in two decades, researchers wrote in JAMA in April. The Department of Homeland Security reported 51 people had died in detention since the start of Trump’s second administration, with suicides spiking to an unprecedented number. KFF Health News and AP asked DHS to respond to the findings six days before publication but it did not provide comment. The department’s acting chief medical officer, Sean Conley, previously said “it is both policy and longstanding practice for aliens to receive timely and appropriate medical care from the moment they enter ICE custody” and that DHS recruits healthcare professionals to maintain high standards. “This is better, more responsive healthcare than many aliens have ever received in their entire lives,” he said.Individual facilities and private prison companies contracting with DHS that responded to requests for comment said they follow ICE standards and that detainees receive medical care when it is required. Some said they were unfamiliar with the allegations outlined in court documents; others blamed the detainees themselves for lapses in their medical care. “I have never seen such disregard or medical neglect like this anywhere,” Vardan Gukasian, a political dissident and former paramedic who spent years behind bars in Armenia, wrote in a court declaration in March to contest his detention in Henderson, Nevada, as it stretched to 13 months despite his health problems. Have a news tip?Contact AP’s global investigative team at [email protected]. For secure and confidential communications, use the free Signal app +1 (202) 281-8604. Madeleine Skains, a spokesperson for the city of Henderson, said medical care is always available at the facility and that the court had not ordered changes to his care.Last June, as Gukasian experienced the symptoms of uncontrolled high blood pressure — dizziness, a nosebleed and a headache — his cellmate banged on their door for help. “When it did not arrive, the rest of the block banged on their doors,” he wrote. Gukasian was hospitalized that day. ‘Brazen indifference to really obvious problems’ A person, who was detained at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Ga., and did not wish to be identified, poses for a portrait, April 22, 2026, in Flowery Branch, Ga. Their immigration proceedings are civil, not criminal.“I couldn’t understand why they treated me so harshly,” said a father of six in Georgia. He said he was injured while shackled in custody when the vehicle transporting him to an Atlanta facility jolted, throwing him out of his seat and into a metal armrest. His wound became infected with E. coli, he said, because he had to sleep on a dirty concrete floor amid leaking toilets.Like other detainees interviewed, he spoke on the condition of anonymity; they said they fear for their safety, for the safety of their families or that speaking out would jeopardize their immigration cases. The AP and KFF Health News are not naming anyone identified in court documents without their consent. Staffers at Stewart Detention Center in rural Lumpkin, Georgia, didn’t adequately respond to that man’s request for medical help, court records say, until he passed out and was taken to a hospital about an hour away. There, he said, a doctor told him he’d narrowly escaped amputation of his left leg. Medical staff found no records of a case matching this description, according to Brian Todd, a spokesperson for CoreCivic, a private prison company, which runs the facility. The 48-year-old, who moved to the U.S. from Guatemala more than two decades ago, was released in October and is now a legal permanent resident. But he is unsure if he’ll be able to return to his job in construction because he said he can no longer lift heavy things due to his injury. Some detainees or their lawyers said even basic care was denied: gauze to protect an open foot wound, prenatal care for a high-risk pregnancy, a pillow to ease the pain of sleeping with advanced stomach cancer, sanitary pads for postpartum bleeding.“I would like to believe the government has the best interest of those it holds in detention for whatever period of time,” Judge Benita Pearson, a federal judge in Ohio, said during a hearing in October concerning a 70-year-old who alleged the government lost her glasses during her arrest. “If one is unable to see due to the loss of glasses when detained, that should be fixed.”Dora Schriro, who worked for ICE and now serves as a special adviser to the American Bar Association, said case law requires the government to treat people in immigration detention with the same care it affords those in traditional jails awaiting trial. But administrators are granted discretion and medical care standards vary.Detainees are frequently moved across the country, often without warning, interrupting treatment. A woman from El Salvador said she missed a week of HIV medication when she was transferred from Colorado to a county jail in Wyoming.A Russian man wrote that he saw a gastroenterologist about his painful gallstones while detained in Texas and scheduled an appointment with a surgeon. “Unfortunately, I never got to see him, due to my being moved around various detention centers.”Advocates say even obvious disabilities, like legal blindness, are ignored.A detainee who lost one eye and had severe glaucoma in the other required twice-daily drops to maintain what vision remained. But, he said, some days the drops never came.“Now, I can only see a little bit straight in front. It now often looks like I’m seeing through gauze,” the man wrote in a court declaration. “This makes me very afraid that one of these times I am going to open my eyes and not be able to see anything at all.”He wrote that he was scared he wouldn’t be able to see his infant son grow up.“It’s just sort of brazen indifference to really obvious problems, things you would have thought absurd a decade ago — like the fact that you can’t see,” the man’s attorney, Brian Hoffman, said. “Before, you could attempt to work with folks on the government side and maybe shame them into doing the right thing. Now, it’s sort of like anything you want done you have to go to court and sue over.”Even court orders aren’t always enough. One California judge ordered the government to take a man showing signs of prostate cancer to a specialist for diagnosis and treatment. Records show they did not take him.Lawyers representing ICE told the judge that officials missed the appointment because of an “internal scheduling error.” CoreCivic, which runs that facility, said it was unable to comment on active litigation.A surge in casesWhen immigrants file habeas corpus petitions, they exercise a right to challenge unlawful imprisonment that dates back to medieval times.More than 40,000 such petitions have been filed during Trump’s second term, fueled by decisions last year to deny bond to many people held on immigration charges. Judges are split on whether that’s legal; the question appears headed to the Supreme Court. Many habeas claims have been successful, but judges typically cite reasons unrelated to the medical neglect described in the petitions, such as being held too long before being deported. The more than 300 medical neglect claims found in this investigation represent a fraction of the problem. The details of habeas corpus cases are often hidden due to a federal rule barring the public from viewing such documents online. KFF Health News and AP obtained some documents directly and received records on 4,400 cases from Habeas Dockets, a project of the nonprofit Immigration Justice Transparency Initiative. But tens of thousands more remain largely inaccessible. Some judges have written that the habeas process is not how to raise allegations of medical neglect and have declined to release detainees over those claims. Not every detainee who believes they experienced medical neglect files a habeas petition or cites their medical issues if they do.Jose-Antonio Segismundo’s petition made no mention of being unable to see an oncologist for the cancer in his abdomen while detained for more than seven months at the Florida detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz and Folkston D Ray ICE Processing Center in Georgia. Medical records in his court filings show he was arrested about five weeks before his scheduled appointment with a cancer specialist. His wife, Maria Jose Gonzalez, said he didn’t receive any treatment even though she sent his medical records and explained his condition to officials at Folkston. When his stomach pain erupted, often suddenly and intensely, she said, they gave him Tylenol.Geo Group, which runs Folkston, follows ICE standards and provides healthcare and access to off-site medical specialists when needed, spokesperson Christopher Ferreira said. This spring, Segismundo, 48, was deported to Mexico, a country he left nearly 30 years ago, Gonzalez said. Now, she said, he will have to restart his search for care in the Oaxacan village where he grew up.Watching loved ones deteriorateDetainees receiving inadequate healthcare have little recourse. DHS last year gutted the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman. In early May, it shut the office entirely, citing a lack of funding from Congress.Previously, ombudsman staffers could facilitate medical care or investigate complaints of neglect, according to Matt Boles, an immigration attorney in Georgia. Now, he said, there’s no one to call.Meanwhile, detainees’ families said they feel helpless, making desperate calls to facilities, the government and their legislators while watching their loved ones deteriorate.Riya Khan saw her mother get sicker at the California City Detention Facility, which is owned by CoreCivic. When she visited a week after her mother arrived at the facility in the Mojave Desert, Riya said, the 64-year-old woman stumbled into her seat. She was shaking and her breathing was labored.Masuma Khan came to the U.S. from Bangladesh in 1997. She has no criminal history, her records say, and was detained in October when she showed up for her regular ICE check-in.For the month she was detained, according to her daughter, she only intermittently received her medications for conditions including high blood pressure, hypothyroidism and prediabetes. CoreCivic treats chronic conditions in line with applicable medical standards, Todd said.“Nothing matters more to CoreCivic than the health, safety and well-being of the people in our care,” Todd said.Khan said she got her asthma medication for the first time two days before she was released and her eye drops for glaucoma never arrived. Staffers told Khan she needed to buy some of her medications from the commissary but it didn’t stock them, her daughter said. Before ICE detained Masuma Khan, she made friends with everyone, her daughter said. She had worked for years at Lucky Boy, an iconic Pasadena fast-food restaurant, and in her free time fed birds and left out fruit for bees that visited her apartment’s balcony. Now she’s too scared to go outside. She still must regularly check in with ICE, and she’s terrified each time.A stroke on a video callPreviously, detainees with serious medical needs would likely have been released on humanitarian parole, in part to avoid the cost of their care, Vermont attorney Andrew Pelcher said.In fiscal year 2023 — before the detained population soared — ICE spent more than $390 million on healthcare for detained noncitizens, according to its most recent annual report to Congress. At a conference in May, then acting director Todd Lyons said ICE has spent “almost half a billion dollars” on detainee healthcare this year. Now, under “mandatory detention,” attorneys say people are staying locked up with serious — and expensive — conditions.A Romanian citizen underwent several heart surgeries, including an emergency triple bypass in April 2025, before he was arrested in July. As part of his recovery, the 52-year-old was required to take 16 daily medications. While at an ICE field office in Baltimore, his court filings allege, he went two days without any medication before officials moved him to a facility in New Jersey. He was hospitalized three times while detained, complaining of chest pains — in part, medical records and court documents say because, despite “countless requests,” the detention center did not provide all his medications. Hospital discharge papers cited by his lawyer show he received only eight of the 16 medications after his second release from the hospital.“Can you please talk to the ICE facility to make sure they give him his medications?” his treatment providers wrote in medical records included in his court filings. “He was admitted last week for chest pain and today he was readmitted again for chest pain secondary to non compliance for medications.”Several weeks later in August, he had a stroke while on a video call with his daughter, according to court filings. “He was struggling to breathe, and was pointing at his chest where he was again experiencing pain, and suddenly stopped speaking.” His daughter screamed for help through the video monitor, according to his petition. “Eventually an officer came in to assist him and cut the feed.”The man lost his ability to speak for four days, the document says. He was returned to detention, where he remained until a federal judge ordered his release in November.Families of ICE detainees are left with impossible choices Cassandra Amador waits for the phone to ring every morning, desperate to ask her husband the question that’s woken her up every night for months: “Did you get your medicine?”Her husband, Pedro Javier Amador Gutierrez, 36, has high blood pressure and depends on the state-run facility in Florida nicknamed “Deportation Depot” to administer the prescriptions that have kept him alive for years. Many mornings, he tells his wife he did not get them. When she talks to him, she said, he sounds weaker and more scared every day, not like the upbeat man who would take her kids out for ice cream.“You can hear in his voice how he feels,” she said. Now, she said, he’s considering returning to Cuba, which he fled because of political persecution, out of fear that he will die in detention without his medicines. Amador and her children would go with him, she said, even though she was born in New Jersey, has never been to Cuba and doesn’t speak much Spanish. He has already collapsed twice at the Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson, Florida, his wife said. She’s terrified that the next time, he won’t get up.___This report is a collaboration between The Associated Press and KFF Health News. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMarta Kostyuk sweeps past Elina Svitolina in French Open quarterfinal that meant more to UkrainePARIS – With the imposing attack and fine serving that has made her one of the best clay-court players of the season, Marta Kostyuk made history on a rainy Tuesday in Paris by becoming the first Ukrainian woman to reach a singles semifinal at the French Open. She did it by beating her compatriot, Elina Svitolina, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, in the first all-Ukrainian quarterfinal at Roland Garros. It was a match that felt fitting for a tournament speckled with sobering reminders of the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.Last week, Kostyuk broke down in tears after her first-round win in Paris, explaining that hours before, a missile had landed “100 meters” from her family’s home in Kyiv. Oleksandra Oliynykova, a 25-year-old who lost in the third round here, adorned her racket bag with the triton symbol of the Ukraine army, in which her father serves as a volunteer. Oliynykova has been directly criticizing top Russian and Belarusian players since the Australian Open and continued to do so in Paris. There were more tears from Kostyuk Tuesday, who will face 19-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the first Grand Slam semifinal of her career.“We had a very difficult night again in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv, and I want to give this match to the Ukrainian people and their resilience,” Kostyuk said. “First I want to point out Elina and their incredible impact on Ukrainian tennis. … I want to thank her again for this incredible match.”Beyond the historical significance of the meeting, Kostyuk and Svitolina gave fans a good show under the roof on Court Philippe-Chatrier.Svitolina arrived at her sixth career French Open quarterfinal having authored one of the finest seasons of her long, accomplished career. After taking an extra-long offseason last fall to address burnout, she returned to the tour in 2026 and so far has two titles to show for it. They include the all-important Italian Open, a WTA 1000 event played on red clay at the level below a Grand Slam, where she bested last year’s French Open champion Coco Gauff in the final.Yet Svitolina, with her 20 career WTA titles sitting alongside an 0-4 record in Grand Slam semifinals, maintained a realistic, characteristically even-keeled outlook about her status as a frontrunner at this tournament. Svitolina is one of the more unflappable players on the WTA Tour, at times even seeming immune to scoreboard pressure — and she’s also made peace with the idea that she may never win a Grand Slam title.“I’m not thinking too much. I think people are talking too much about it,” Svitolina chuckled in a news conference, waving her hand. “I’m in good form, but I think there are still players who are more favorites than me – I think at least five players who are, you know, still bigger, they have bigger chances to win this tournament.”By the time Kostyuk arrived at Tuesday’s quarterfinal, she was thinking about things a little differently. Her fourth-round upset of four-time French Open champion Iga Świątek Sunday shook her out of the underdog mentality she arrived with in Paris.Kostyuk has sped through clay-court season, picking up two titles on the dirt, and entered Tuesday with an impressive 16-match win streak. But Grand Slam success had felt far away for the No. 15 seed, who had only reached one major quarterfinal in her career, at the 2024 Australian Open.Until she beat Świątek.“Maybe a lot of things will change after this tournament or not,” Kostyuk said with a smile Sunday. “I’m not going to be considered an underdog anymore, but I don’t mind to be in either position. I take it as it is.”She certainly didn’t play like an underdog Tuesday.Kostyuk zipped to a 4-1 lead before Svitolina was able to make any inroads on her serve. Svitolina worked her way back into the set, only for her first serve to desert her at 3-4. The 31-year-old gave up the break, and Kostyuk, 23, served out to take a 1-0 lead. Her ball speed and aggressiveness meant that she was in control of most outcomes, even in the second set, when the speed dropped and Svitolina took advantage by pinning her opponent in the corners and moving forward into the net.Kostyuk’s aggressiveness and relentless defense returned in the third, and she ultimately overwhelmed a fading Svitolina. The 23-year-old is one of the fastest players on the WTA Tour, and she sprinted through their long rallies without needing to pause for a breath. It was rare that Svitolina could find a corner Kostyuk couldn’t reach.Kostyuk will need her legs again going forward, for her third match against a talented clay-court player. Andreeva, the No. 8 seed, is the only woman who has won more on clay this season than Kostyuk has, with her 19 wins including a title at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz Open. This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Culture, Tennis, Women's Tennis2026 The Athletic Media Company0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGilbert Arenas’ co-host bizarrely compares LeBron James’ career to the Fast and Furious franchisePhoto by Luke Hales/Getty ImagesRashad McCants praised LeBron James as an all-time great before making one of the strangest comparisons about his never-ending NBA run.The former NBA player was not questioning James’ place in history. He actually pushed him into the highest tier while admitting that the length of the story has started to feel unreal. That is what made the moment land. McCants sounded impressed by the legacy, but also stunned that the journey is still going.Photo by Phillip Faraone/Getty Images for CLD PR and SettecentoRashad McCants says LeBron James belongs on NBA Mount Rushmore after historic runSpeaking in a recent The Arena clip, McCants made it clear that James’ career has earned full respect.“He is impressive. Listen, it’s historic, man. We ain’t seen nothing else like this since the other guys who’ve done it before him were Kobe, Kareem, and who as the other guy, Tim Duncan,” McCants said.He added, “Why not join the Mount Rushmore? I think that’s where he belongs. He’s put in the work. He’s done all the things we thought he couldn’t do.“Made it to the finals 10 times and won four of them. And what more can you ask for?”James has stacked longevity, production and championship-level relevance across multiple eras, which is why even critics eventually run out of clean ways to keep him out of the all-time discussion.McCants pointed to the Finals trips and four championships because those are the milestones that have kept James in the greatest-ever conversation, even as debates around his losses and team changes continue.Rashad McCants compares LeBron James’ longevity to the never-ending Fast and Furious franchiseThen McCants shifted from legacy talk to a line that made the discussion feel completely different.“He definitely deserves everything, man. I’m just waiting for this s___ to be over with. This is like Fast and the Furious. It’s like G__ d___, we got another one, Vin Diesel? That car still moving, Vin Diesel?” McCants stated. The comparison was bizarre, but the idea behind it was easy to understand. James has lasted so long near the top of the league that his career can feel like a franchise that keeps adding another sequel after everyone assumes it should be finished.McCants was not saying James has overstayed his greatness. He was pointing out how unusual it is that fans are still watching meaningful LeBron chapters after two decades of dominance. That is why the Fast and Furious joke works. Every time the story seems ready to slow down, another version appears, still loud, still moving and still impossible to ignore. For McCants, James deserves the praise. He just also seems ready for the final credits to roll at some point.Read more:Max Kellerman compares Wembanyama edge over Chet to iconic LeBron momentThe LeBron James record Victor Wembanyama took after Spurs Game 7 winWhy LeBron James’ best friend sees Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen’s rings as the ‘same’0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Jack Nicklaus once was left laughing at Matt Kuchar’s controversial actions during the Memorial tournament in 2019Photo by Amy Lemus/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesGolf is a complicated game, and rules incidents happen all the time. Most of the time, golfers are trusted to referee their own game, and when they need clarification on a ruling, they will call a rules official over. But sometimes those rules officials are called so a player can argue their case. That’s exactly what happened at the Memorial Tournament in 2019, when Jack Nicklaus laughed at Matt Kuchar for their ridiculous attempt to get a favorable ruling from an official.Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesThe rules controversy that made Jack Nicklaus laugh at Matt Kuchar The controversy that left Nicklaus perplexed took place on the 17th hole at Muirfield Village. That’s where Kuchar’s drive ended up in the edge of a pitch mark that was not his.Every professional knows that if your ball lands in someone else’s pitchmark, you do not get relief, but Kuchar tried to argue he was entitled to relief because he thought his ball created a second pitchmark within the original.A cameraman was called in so Kuchar could view a replay of the shot, which showed the ball bouncing before it eventually settled in the pitchmark, so it clearly did not make a mark of its own.Rickie Fowler, who was paired with Kuchar, agreed with the rules official, but that didn’t stop Kuchar from continuing to argue his case. That led to Nicklaus, who was on commentary at the time, laughing at the predicament. The 18-time major winner exclaimed, “That is the most amusing thing I’ve ever seen someone try to get a ruling on.”Kuchar did not get relief and ended up shooting a one-over 73 to leave him eight shots off the lead.READ MORE: Dan Rapaport picks who he wants back on the PGA Tour more – Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCubs BCB This Morning: Come to the launch party for my new book!Remember when I introduced BCB This Morning back in March?Well, okay, you probably don’t. At the time I made that post I said it would be an “occasional” feature of this site. And truth be told, I’ve been busy and this has been a busy Cubs season and… now, here we are after a Cubs off day and there’s no game until tonight, so I thought this would be a perfect time to have a sort of open thread for you this morning.First, I want to extend an invitation to everyone here to come to the launch party for my new book, “The Incredible Chicago Cubs Trivia Book.” Sure, you can pre-order one at that link (it will ship June 9), but why not come and get one in person? The party will be at Almost Home Tavern and Grill, 3801 N. Clark St. in Chicago, just a couple of blocks north of Wrigley Field. It’ll happen next Monday, June 8 at 5 p.m. I’ll be there to sign copies of the book — and I’ll have some copies of my other books, including “Chicago Cubs Firsts,” in case you missed them.Hope to see you there! As I promised, with each edition of BCB This Morning, I’m going to post a song that has either some current or past meaning to me, or is something newsworthy.Today’s song is both. It’s a song I used to play as a college DJ, and also, Route 66 is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Though US Highway 66 was officially decommissioned in 1985, the legend of the Chicago-to-Los Angeles highway continues, and many people still drive along the interstate highways that now cover that route. As you can see in the link above, there are a lot of historical sights to see along the route, and detours you can take if you drive it. I drive much of this route myself twice a year between Chicago and Arizona. So… go get your kicks on Route 66! Here’s one of the best versions of Bobby Troup’s song, by Nat King Cole:The rest of the morning is open for discussion including… how will the Cubs do this week?0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Baseball: Avoid putting your pitchers in danger against these strong MLB offensesAlthough we are always searching for a big game, sometimes avoiding disaster is the biggest key to winning a fantasy baseball league. This is especially the case in category leagues, as a disastrous outing from a starting pitcher can ruin an entire team’s ratios for the current scoring period.Wise managers will avoid four teams with pitchers who are anything less than excellent. There are also a few matchups that are problematic in specific situations.Go here for offenses to stream pitchers againstLet’s dive in.Offenses to avoidWashington NationalsThe highest-scoring team in baseball is also the most surprising member of the Big 4 offenses of 2026. After all, the Nats finished 20th in runs scored last year and didn’t add any significant hitters over the offseason. Instead, they overhauled their front office and coaching staff over the winter, and the fresh approach has worked wonders with youngsters James Wood and CJ Abrams, who are enjoying breakout seasons. The Nats have slightly outperformed their run expectancy, as other key statistics such as OPS, wRC+ and wOBA place them in the range of fourth or fifth, but they have still cemented their status as an offense to avoid. They also have more bust potential than the other clubs, as Wood and Abrams are the only players among the seven Nats with at least 150 at-bats to post an OPS over .800. Still, for now, Washington is to be avoided.Atlanta BravesAfter a pair of disappointing seasons, a deep group of Atlanta hitters has finally recovered their status as one of baseball’s best lineups. Sure, they haven’t fully returned to their 2023 stardom, when they scored 41 more runs than the second-place team, but this remains a deep, talented group that could lead the majors in runs scored. The best news is that they are achieving success without major contributions from Ronald Acuña Jr., who has not yet shown his best form (.821 OPS) but will likely return to superstar status this summer.Matt Olson is having a terrific season, as is Michael Harris II, who has bounced back from two down years. Ozzie Albies has been solid, and Drake Baldwin was the team’s best hitter until suffering an oblique injury that will sideline him for most of June. Atlanta is especially effective against righties and on the road.Los Angeles DodgersIf there is one offense to avoid, it’s the group on the defending World Series Champions. The Dodgers currently rank third in runs scored but lead the majors in OPS (.787) by a notable margin. They have been excellent at their hitter-friendly home park but even better on the road, where they have logged a league-leading .800 OPS. And they have been equally punishing against righties and southpaws. It’s the depth of this group that makes it special, as five members have posted an OPS of .785 or better over at least 175 at-bats. They could be even better during the summer, as Kyle Tucker (.722 OPS) has been a major disappointment, and Shohei Ohtani (.909 OPS) has not met his vast power potential. There is also upside in Mookie Betts, who has missed time due to injury and is having his worst season (.661 OPS).New York YankeesThe highest-scoring offense from 2025 is on pace to lead the American League in runs for the third straight season. The Yankees are also baseball’s most powerful team (86 homers). They are especially potent at home, where they have logged an .824 OPS that is 27 points higher than the home mark of any other team. The lineup revolves around Aaron Judge, who has substantial room for improvement on a .907 OPS that is roughly 200 points lower than his mark from each of the previous two seasons. Ben Rice has been the club’s best hitter (1.056 OPS), and Paul Goldschmidt (.850 OPS) is enjoying a bounce-back year. Cody Bellinger is having another excellent season (.855 OPS), and the lineup could improve if Trent Grisham (.704 OPS) and Jazz Chisholm Jr. (.700 OPS) can rediscover their 2025 forms.Situations to avoidArizona DiamondbacksFantasy managers should be careful when using left-handers against the D-backs, as the club ranks second in baseball with a .795 OPS in those matchups. Lefty superstar Corbin Carroll is having an outstanding season against same-sided hurlers, making him one of three Arizona hitters, along with Ryan Waldschmidt and Ildemaro Vargas, who have logged an OPS over 1.000 in those matchups. Switch-hitter Ketel Marte and righties Nolan Arenado and Gabriel Moreno are effective against southpaws as well.Chicago White SoxThe White Sox have been excellent (.780 OPS) against left-handers this year, and I’ll leave it to individual fantasy managers to determine whether their success is sustainable. Although he isn’t a lefty killer, losing Munetaka Murakami for a couple of weeks with a hamstring strain significantly weakens their lineup.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentRight-handed hitters Miguel Vargas and Chase Meidroth have been predictably excellent against lefties, and lefty Colton Montgomery has fared well, too. Managers can be careful with left-handers against this group but do not have to use the same caution as with other teams in this article.Pittsburgh PiratesThis one doesn’t make sense, but I will report it anyway. The Pirates rank second in baseball in OPS at home and 27th on the road. They were also much better at home last season. Bryan Reynolds (1.004 OPS) has been on fire at PNC Park, making him one of six Pittsburgh regulars with a home OPS over .770.The Bucs offensive prowess at home flies in the face of long-standing park factors that paint PNC as a pitcher-friendly venue that is particularly hard on power hitters. As with the data on the White Sox versus lefties, I would be aware of the Pirates’ success at home while not being obsessed with it.AthleticsSo far, the Athletics rank fifth in OPS, third in wOBA and ninth in wRC+ at home. Those solid marks figure to rise in the coming weeks, as the weather heats up and hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park becomes even more of a launching pad. The addition of Carlos Cortes gives the Athletics another talented young hitter to go along with the likes of superstars Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers. If veteran Brent Rooker (.646 OPS) gets on track, this lineup will be one to avoid at home during the summer.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMcAulay makes 'hardest decision' to leave Rangers[SNS]Scotland winger Mia McAulay has made the "hardest decision" of her career to depart Rangers. The 19-year-old academy graduate has made more than 100 appearances for the club since her debut at age 16 in 2023. Named SWPL young player of the year for her impressive breakthrough season in 2023-24, McAuley won successive SWPL Cup and Scottish Cup doubles with Rangers but missed out on silverware this term as Leanne Crichton's side lost both finals and finished second to league champions Hearts."This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make, to leave the club I love," said McAulay."Having spent my entire career here, coming through the academy, all the way to the first team has been a sense of pride for myself and my family."Everyone knows I have grown up supporting the club, and it was a dream to wear the famous blue jersey."Head coach Crichton is "extremely disappointed" to see McAulay leave."I know this wasn't an easy decision for her, as everyone is aware how big a supporter of Rangers she is," Crichton added."Mia believes she is ready for a new challenge, and I thank her for all of her efforts and wish her every success in her next move."0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEngland consider handing Test debut to fast bowler in first red-ball match since Ashes disasterEngland are contemplating a Test debut for promising fast bowler Sonny Baker at Lord’s, as the national side prepares for their first red-ball outing since their Ashes debacle concluded almost five months ago. Head coach Brendon McCullum has indicated that the 23-year-old is firmly in contention for a spot in Thursday’s series opener against New Zealand. With Josh Tongue and the returning Ollie Robinson seemingly assured of two seam bowling positions, the final pace slot appears to be a direct contest between Baker and Gus Atkinson. Atkinson boasts an impressive record at the home of cricket, having claimed 19 wickets at an average of just 10.94 in his two previous appearances, alongside a century against Sri Lanka. However, Baker’s superior pace has brought him squarely into the selection discussion. The team is already set to blood opener Emilio Gay for his debut, and Baker’s claims are being carefully considered as selectors assess a mixed weather forecast, which could sway them towards a more explosive attack.McCullum spoke enthusiastically about Baker’s potential, stating: "He’s quick. I think he’s going to be a cricketer that the country really gets behind. You can see he charges in and leaves everything out there. Some guys have a bit more of a rhythmical component to their style. Brendon McCullum hinted Sonny Baker could make his Test debut on Thursday (PA Wire)“I think Sonny is full noise. He loves the game immensely. I am not saying the others don’t, but he’s got a real deep passion for it and he’s exciting."The coach further elaborated on Baker’s attributes: "He swings the ball both ways. He hits probably a slightly fuller length and he’s obviously got the ability to touch 90 miles an hour and he’s got a skiddy bouncer. “So he’s an exciting proposition and, if it’s not in this Test, his time will come. If it is this Test, I’d expect him to do a good job."The final decision, McCullum suggested, hinges on conditions: "We’ll just work out whether we want that extra air speed, if all of a sudden it becomes 35 degrees and flattens out, or if we stick to what’s tried and tested at Lord’s and remain with the type of bowlers that will extract some movement with the overhead conditions."Baker’s potential Test bow would mark a significant turnaround after challenging white-ball debuts. He was hit for 76 runs off seven overs in his sole One Day International, with South Africa’s Aiden Markram inflicting the damage at Headingley, and conceded 52 runs from four overs against Ireland in his only T20 international at Malahide. He is yet to claim an international wicket.Baker looks to be in a straight shootout with Gus Atkinson (pictured) (PA Wire)Despite these initial setbacks, Baker has impressed with his attitude and a strong start to the county season with Hampshire, earning McCullum’s full confidence. "He’s one of those customers that he learns from tough experiences. I think it strengthened him to be honest," McCullum affirmed. "We certainly don’t judge it from that point of view. I think it was a nice lesson for Sonny and I feel like he’s come back at a better, stronger, and a more complete cricketer."0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC champ sees 'game over' moment for Justin Gaethje with Ilia TopuriaAlexander Volkanovski sees Justin Gaethje suffering his predicted fate against Ilia Topuria.Interim lightweight champion Gaethje (27-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) is a huge underdog going into his title-unification bout against champ Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on June 14 (Paramount+)."Ilia Topuria, Justin Gaethje, White House main event fight, huge fight," Volkanovski said on his YouTube channel. "Ilia obviously looking like the favorite. The pros are saying this could be a very, very, very bad night for Justin Gaethje, but let's break it down a little bit further."While Gaethje started out his UFC career with a wild and chaotic style, he has shown tamed and refined performances in his recent wins over Dustin Poirier, Rafael Fiziev, and Paddy Pimblett."Justin Gaethje, obviously a durable, aggressive fighter and still quite calculated," Volkanovski said. "A lot of people see him being so aggressive and think he's just going to be so open for Ilia. Charles (Oliveira) is more aggressive than Justin Gaethje. ...Justin Gaethje has a lot of offense, very aggressive, but he will still try and put himself in defensive positions."He will shell up. You'll see him sometimes get into a big shell, which I think I've seen some people bring up and be like, 'This is a big problem.' It can be a big problem. For Ilia, Ilia is going to be a big problem if you are trying to pressure, fire shots and leaving your chin out there for him to just counter and put one on you."UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski explained Gaethje's best approach – even though he thinks one false move could shut his lights out."So Gaethje, I think being defensive coming forward with maybe trying to come forward, pressure, really shield up, not giving easy options for Ilia is going to be his approach," Volkanovski added. "I've seen him sort of do that, and I think he's going to know he needs to do that."Volkanovski recounted how Topuria was able to back him against the cage to knock him out in their featherweight title fight at UFC 298."Ilia talked about, you know, wasn't the one and twos that he was going to get me with," Volkanovski said. "It was the three, fours, and fives is where he got me. When he brought that up, he was right. The ones and twos weren't really there, but the three, fours, fives in that combo were."I did a decent enough job to get myself outside his right hand, but he comes forward, I start drifting too far across. If he was just to continue that combo, I'm too far off to the right. He did a great job of mid-combo shuffling laterally to get his base and then just ends up catching me. I end up countering. We both stand in front of each other, we both fire, I end up copping the shot."Volkanovski sees Gaethje taking a defensive approach, but eventually needing to take chances vs. Topuria. However, as soon as he does, Volkanovski spells a bad night for him."Are there easy ways to find a finish for Ilia? No," Volkanovski said. "This is going to be maybe a little bit harder. But as soon as Gaethje opens himself up, as soon as he tries to open up and let his hands go off, take the opportunity, I just believe Ilia is going to be too sharp and just catch him. 'I think he's safe enough and defensive enough to not fall into any of Justin Gaethje's traps and then as soon as Gaethje opens up, game over. I think it could be that quick as soon as he opens himself up. ... I think it's going to be a KO for Ilia. He is the favorite for a reason. I think he's just going to be too much and he's going get the KO victory."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC White House: Champ says Ilia Topuria will KO Justin Gaethje0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

APNEWS.COMAP exclusive: Under Notre Dame cathedral, a ‘dig of the century’ unearths 1,700 years of historyArchaeological workers wearing hard hats dig 4 meters (13 feet) underground during excavations outside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, Monday, June 1, 2026. (AP Photo/Nicolas Garriga)2026-06-02T04:04:59Z PARIS (AP) — Wilting in the summer sun, a line of tourists waits to climb Notre Dame cathedral and meet its gargoyles. Four meters (13 feet) beneath them, a team of archaeologists is digging the other way — straight down and back in time, to Roman Paris 2,000 years ago. In 2019, fire brought Notre Dame’s spire crashing down as the world watched. The cathedral was rebuilt and reopened in late 2024, and now Paris wants to soften the hot, bare square in front of it with trees and shade. But in a city this old, the soil cannot be turned until what lies beneath it is excavated, in case it is damaged during works. So a slice of Notre Dame’s forecourt has become an excavation site — an open pit ringed by barriers and crossed by a wooden walkway, a few steps from the line-up. A modern Da Vinci CodeFrench media have dubbed it the “dig of the century.”“It’s a rare opportunity for us to work on something that’s tangibly going to make a difference to the history of Paris,” Lucie Altenburg, a conservator with the Paris archaeology unit, told The Associated Press.Among the hundreds of objects already found: a fourth-century coin stamped with the face of the Emperor Constantine, and shards of medieval pottery painted on the inside with marks no expert has yet deciphered — like a modern Da Vinci Code. “It makes Notre Dame feel alive again,” said Emily Carter, 34, a tourist from Manchester waiting in line with her two children. “You come to see the cathedral, then realize there’s another city under your feet. That’s almost more moving.”The first traces appear 50 centimeters (20 inches) down; 4 meters (13 feet) lower, the team is still pulling up the past. Some days they fill 15 crates — from ground that has lain untouched for decades. Read More Ancient cities have archaeologists monitoring digsThis is the bargain in every old city: The past is not in a museum down the street — it is under the street.Cities rise. Each age builds on the rubble of the last, and the ground climbs with it; in Rome, it has risen about 9 meters (30 feet) since the empire fell in the fifth century AD.When Athens built its metro for the 2004 Olympics, it set off the largest excavation in Greek history and turned up tens of thousands of objects, now shown in the stations themselves. Paris is no different. It all comes from the island in the Seine, the Ile de la Cite, where Paris began. Centuries later, Notre Dame rose on the same ground. At the cathedral’s birth in 1163, the entire square was packed with medieval houses, split by a single street, said Camille Colonna, the archaeologist leading the dig. Digging down, her team has reached their cellars — and therefore also the time in history they represent. Below them lie Merovingian and Carolingian grain pits, from the sixth to the 10th centuries; below those, darker and deeper still, a dense Roman quarter from the fourth and fifth centuries.Twenty centuries are stacked in 4 meters (13 feet) of earth — or about the height of two-and-a-half Napoleon Bonapartes standing on top of one another. “Here you can see the layers — medieval Paris, Roman Paris, maybe even before that,” said Yasmine Benali, 22, an archaeology student watching from behind the barriers. “It makes the city feel less like a postcard and more like something still being discovered.” Coins, ceramics and mysterious markingsThe richest finds here come from the foulest place: the deep pits beneath the medieval houses, old latrines that doubled as rubbish dumps. Out of them the team keeps lifting whole jugs and cups — thrown away centuries ago, yet still intact — among the broken plates and animal bones. It’s “rare to find complete ceramics,” said Valentine Breloux, an archaeologist with the unit. Here the soft waste cushioned them, and centuries later they miraculously came up whole. Then some other objects came that confounded experts. As conservators cleaned what looked like ordinary medieval pottery, they found faint reddish writing painted on the inside — the same mysterious markings on shard after shard. What they mean has yet to be deciphered. Of everything she has cleaned from Notre Dame, Breloux said, these are the most “astonishing.” Coins can help date the layersThe coins came up as black discs, eaten by rust. But under an X-ray, a face returned: it was Constantine, the Roman emperor who ruled in the early 300s AD.Such objects also “can be invaluable in giving us the date of the (underground) layer,” Altenburg said. The Roman finds are the ones the archaeologists value most — the deepest, oldest and least understood. In Roman times, the town was called Lutetia, and its center lay across the river, on the Left Bank. As the Roman empire collapsed, people pulled back to the Ile de la Cite, where Notre Dame would later rise, and fortified the island with walls of stone taken from earlier buildings.Colonna’s team found some proof: a Roman doorstep found in the dig, taken from a much bigger building, carried over, turned upside down, and laid in a road as paving. Paris houses thousands of finds in an archaeology centerEvery find leaves the pit and travels north, to the city’s archaeology center — what Colonna calls “a huge archaeological store,” a treasure house of Paris. For archaeologists, the cathedral dig is a rare treat. In France, like elsewhere, they work only where building work is about to begin — a bit like how industrial quarry workers end up unearthing dinosaur remains. “This only happens because the city of Paris decided it wanted to beautify the area,” Altenburg said. The new square should be mostly finished by 2028: a kind of woodland clearing, with 160 new trees and a thin film of water sliding over the stone to cool it in summer — part of how Paris is bracing for ever hotter summers induced by global warming. The tourists who now wait in the bare sun beneath the gargoyles will, in a few summers, line up in the shade. The old underground parking lot will reopen as a visitor center looking onto the Seine. Until then, the Notre Dame team wants to go deeper still — past the Romans, toward whoever came before them, the Gauls who gave the city its first name.“The hope is that we are able to go back in time even further than we’ve ever been before,” Altenburg said.___Nicolas Garriga in Paris contributed. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMA.J. Brown explains why he and Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts drifted apartFor the past two years, speculation surrounded the relationship between A.J. Brown and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Following his trade to the New England Patriots, Brown addressed the topic directly with Maria Taylor on 7PM in Brooklyn, making it clear that while he and Hurts are no longer as close as they once were, there was never a falling out between the two stars."Not as close as we once were," Brown said. "And I believe that's fine. It's like there's no bad blood."Brown explained that the situation was far less dramatic than many observers assumed during their time together in Philadelphia."Nothing happened," Brown said. "People just grow apart. Nothing happened between me and him or our families, wives, anything. Nothing like that ever happened."Instead, Brown described a reality familiar to many friendships."You just look up sometimes, and you just find yourself drifting away," Brown said. "And that's fine. I think both parties accepted that. It's part of life. It's part of growing up."The comments provide clarity on a narrative that followed the Eagles throughout portions of their recent run as Super Bowl contenders. Brown acknowledged that he never fully understood why his friendship with Hurts became such a prominent topic among fans and the media. Looking back, Brown said the two had not been as close personally for several years, but that never affected their ability to work together."We still competed. We still pushed each other. We still led the team," Brown said.Brown repeatedly emphasized his admiration for Hurts and dismissed any suggestion that their relationship contributed to issues within the organization."I love him. I love him to death," Brown said. "I want him to succeed and accomplish all the things that he wants to accomplish."The interview came as Brown discussed his transition to New England following four successful seasons in Philadelphia. While he described the move to the Patriots as a dream come true and an opportunity for a fresh start, he made it clear that his respect for Hurts remains unchanged. For Brown, the relationship simply evolved. For those seeking controversy, his explanation was straightforward: sometimes friendships change, even when respect remains. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: A.J. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM3 NHL free agent destinations for Kraken's Bobby McMann3 NHL free agent destinations for Kraken's Bobby McMann originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Bobby McMann had a career year in 2025-26. In 78 games split between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Seattle Kraken, the 6-foot-2 forward set new career highs with 29 goals, 17 assists, 46 points, and 165 hits.McMann’s career year came at a perfect time, as he is a pending unrestricted free agent and set to land himself a big raise. This remains the case whether he re-signs with Seattle or hits the free agent market on July 1. With that, let’s look at three teams that could sign McMann if he chooses not to re-sign with Seattle. Edmonton Oilers The Oilers need more secondary scoring and grit, so don’t be surprised if they look to sign McMann this summer. He would have the potential to be an excellent addition to their top six. Yet, even if he played in a third-line role for Edmonton, he would still give their forward group a much-needed boost. There is also a strong chance that McMann would be open to the idea of playing for the Oilers. This is because they not only have two superstars in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but also because McMann is a native of Wainwright, Alta. MORE: The Edmonton Oilers will waste another season if they don't address goaltending issuesDetroit Red Wings The Red Wings could be another team to keep an eye on if McMann tests free agency this summer. The Red Wings desperately need to improve their forward group this summer, as they need more secondary scoring. McMann would provide them with just that. McMann would be a candidate to play on Detroit’s first line with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond if signed. Yet, due to his versatility, he could still make an impact in a smaller role for Detroit.MORE: Red Wings Poised For Big Offseason Push As Salary Cap Jumps To $104 MillionWashington Capitals After missing the playoffs this year, the Capitals should be looking to improve their forward group this summer. With McMann being one of the top pending UFA forwards this year, it would not be surprising if the Capitals looked to sign him this offseason. The Capitals need another scoring winger, and McMann showed this season that he can be just that. He would be an upgrade over Anthony Beauvillier in Washington’s top six if signed. He would also give the Capitals another option for their power play. WWW.404MEDIA.COHere is the Contract for Palantir’s Super API for the IRS📄This article was primarily reported using public records requests. We are making it available to all readers as a public service. FOIA reporting can be expensive, please consider subscribing to 404 Media to support this work. Or send us a one time donation via our tip jar here. The IRS’s new, Palantir-powered API will make IRS data available to any app it wishes, and Palantir is working for the Criminal Investigation (CI) part of the IRS on a new system to bring together traditionally disparate systems into a single overarching one to investigate all sorts of financial crime, according to a cache of documents obtained by 404 Media. The existence and development of the API have been previously reported and announced by the Department of the Treasury. But the documents provide much more specific insight into what the IRS is hoping to achieve with it, and what the agency wants Palantir to build.“As the IRS’ mission expands as a result of legislative mandates, taxpayer expectations, and oversight requirements, IRS data systems have become increasingly complex and siloed; this creates an opportunity to modernize data access, enhance secure information sharing across business operations, and accelerate compliance capabilities,” one of the documents reads.404 Media obtained the documents through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the IRS.The idea of the new API—an Application Programming Interface that lets different pieces of software communicate with one another—is to make “IRS data easily accessible to any app,” according to one of the documents. Specifically, the API will use Palantir’s Foundry software, the documents say.In September, the Department of the Treasury announced: “To continue improving data integrity and technical infrastructure, Treasury has awarded a contract to Palantir. This partnership will enable a common API layer that supports developer platforms, workflow automation, and data analytics. This work supports federal employees, increasing efficiency for their professional duties.”Last month The Intercept reported Palantir is helping the IRS analyze dozens of different datasets to investigate financial crimes. One of the documents obtained by 404 Media discussing CI’s modernization says one objective is to provide modern tools to support investigations into “complex criminal financial crimes, organized crime, tax crimes, protecting the US financial system and other US Treasury Department missions.”One section lays out how CI currently handles data:“CI does not have a centralized law enforcement case management system that allows for deconfliction (increased intelligence and officer safety), lead tracking, centralized evidence/case file management, chain of custody tracking, or investigative file sharing/comprehensive case file access (across CI, Chief Counsel, Department of Justice, and civil counterparts). Nor does CI have a centralized repository for all CI case data (intelligence and data analytics). CI's current solution for managing case data is having case related evidence, memorandums, and investigative approval requests housed in Windows folders maintained on individual agent's computers, shared Windows folders within field offices that periodically backup to regional servers and locking filing cabinets and grand jury storage rooms that house physical evidence.”In February a second federal judge ordered the IRS to stop sharing residential addresses with ICE, Politico reported.Neither Palantir nor the Department of Treasury responded to a request for comment. You can read the documents here:Document one.Document two.Document three.Document four.Document five.0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid eyeing move for two centre-backs this summer – reportReal Madrid eyeing move for two centre-backs this summer – reportWhile all eyes will be on the upcoming presidential election at Real Madrid, it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that the club are in desperate need of a summer rebuild.A key weakness area for the Los Blancos is the defence, especially with both Dani Carvajal and David Alaba leaving the club.Real Madrid, therefore, are in the hunt for defensive reinforcements, especially in the centre-back position, where Eder Militao has struggled with injuries, while Raul Asencio has seemingly lost his importance in the team.Real Madrid are looking to sign two CBsReal Madrid need a replacement for Alaba. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)According to AS, Real Madrid are looking to sign at least two new centre-backs in the summer transfer window. This is hardly surprising as the club desperately require competition for Dean Huijsen and the injury-prone Militao. At the same time, they must also find a replacement for the departing Alaba. Two new centre-backs, therefore, could go a long way in solidifying the Real Madrid backline, especially if one of them is also versatile enough to operate in a fullback role.Who are Real Madrid going after?Konate has agreed initial terms with Real Madrid. (Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images)Everything suggests Real Madrid are eyeing a free transfer for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate, who has reportedly agreed personal terms with the club.Konate is an experienced defender who can add a lot of value to the Real Madrid backline, offering competition to both Militao, Antonio Rudiger and Huijsen next season. If Real Madrid can get one more centre-back, in addition to Konate, they can have a defined central defensive unit, with at least five players vying for a place in the starting eleven. As far as the second new centre-back is concerned, Real Madrid have been linked with a move for a few stars, including Nico Schlotterbeck, Josko Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni. But these are still early days and more details will come out only after Konate’s potential signing.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid seal signing of Liverpool centre-backReal Madrid seal signing of Liverpool centre-backReal Madrid have agreed a deal to bring in Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate this summer, after his departure from Liverpool was confirmed this week. The 27-year-old defender is a free agent, after failing to agree a new deal in the 18 months of negotiations with the Reds.Los Blancos began being linked with Konate in March of 2025, and were thought to be a likely destination for Konate last summer. Yet in November, Real Madrid informed Liverpool they were no longer looking to sign him. The France international had shown a downturn in form, and he looked set to stay at Liverpool as late as April, but this week it was announced he would be leaving.Real Madrid to sign Konate to four-year contractNevertheless, with Jose Mourinho keen for Los Blancos to bring in at least one, if not two, central defenders, they have now approached and agreed a deal with Konate. After it became clear Konate would be a free agent, Real Madrid were linked with a move again, and they appear to have pulled the trigger on a deal. That was first reported by El Chiringuito, who noted that if Florentino Perez was re-elected as President on Sunday, then a deal would be done for Konate to come in as a free agent. That has since been confirmed by Diario AS, who say that he will sign a four-year deal until 2030, with an option for a fifth season. They also note the fact that Kylian Mbappe approves of the deal is a factor that has worked in Konate’s favour.Real Madrid’s centre-back options(Photo by Megan Briggs/Getty Images)Konate joins a centre-back room that has just lost David Alaba, and is currently without Eder Militao, who has been battling injuries for much of the past three seasons. Dean Huijsen was the big-money signing last year, and Raul Asencio is the other option available as things stand. Among those options, Konate will like his chances of being a starter. There are also high hopes for academy talents Victor Valdepenas, Lamini Fati and Joan Martinez, but the feeling has also been that Asencio could leave if a good offer arrives for him.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTigers receive bold trade deadline prediction that would be bittersweet resultTigers receive bold trade deadline prediction that would be bittersweet result originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Detroit Tigers have a lot of attention on them this season, but for all of the wrong reasons. They're 23-38, very much heading towards the deadline as sellers.Tarik Skubal is the obvious name to watch, as the Tigers would be foolish not to trade him this year, with Skubal set to hit free agency and not being likely to re-sign in Detroit either. But, he might not be the only one dealt from Detroit this year.Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report is predicting that the Tigers will conduct a bittersweet trade deadline plan that would "burn it down," selling any asset they can in what's projected to be a strong seller's market.Tigers predicted to 'burn it down' amid hot seller's market"Tigers burn it down," Miller predicts. "... This season hasn't gone anywhere close to plan for the Tigers. But in what figures to be quite the seller's market, they could make out like bandits."This prediction, while it would be a sad way for this iteration of the Tigers to end, might be the best thing for the future of the franchise.Kevin McGonigle, Dillon Dingler, and Riley Greene wouldn't be going anywhere, as they're core tenants of this roster looking into the future. But, when it comes to Skubal, Casey Mize, Gleyber Torres, Spencer Torkleson, Kyle Finnegan, Kenley Jansen, Justin Verlander, Jack Flaherty, and others, the Tigers should be more than willing to make some trades this season.MORE: Tarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyA fire sale this season, in what's likely to be a seller's market, would give the Tigers the building blocks they need to become a contender in the near future.Even though they seemed like a top contender last season, things have gone very wrong in the last year or so, and now it might be time to admit the failings of the roster, go through a miniature reset, and land some incredible value at the 2026 deadline. It would be a bittersweet outcome for the Tigers, as the massive returns they would be able to get on the players they trade away would help make up for the admission of 2026 being a total disaster. The 2026 season isn't the only year the Tigers can be competitive. With McGonigle, a few fun prospects waiting in the wings, and the potential for a huge prospect haul this year at the deadline, the Tigers could be right back in contention in 2027.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsRoman Anthony might’ve been overhyped for Red SoxMets projected to still sell at trade deadline by ex-MLB GMEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GM0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNY Mets Report Reveals Date When Buy or Sell at Deadline Decision is Made, Record They Need To Be BuyersA new report offers up details on when the New York Mets will decide if they are buyers or sellers before this year’s MLB trade deadline. As well as where the club needs to be in the standings to seriously consider being buyers in 2026.This has been an extremely frustrating season for devoted Mets fans. Despite one of the most expensive payrolls in baseball after team president David Stearns remodeled the roster in the offseason, they head into their game on Tuesday with a 26-34 record. They have dealt with major injuries to several key players, including Francisco Lindor and Clay Holmes. But the Mets have also gotten some underwhelming years from high-paid talent like Bo Bichette. Despite another great season from Juan Soto, the team is dead last in the National League East standings. That is why it’s not a surprise that many wonder if they will be sellers before the August trade deadline. But when will management decide to do that? The Athletic’s Mets reporter, Tim Britton, offered up some insight on when that should be. With this year’s trade deadline on Aug. 3, he predicts by July 27 — or a week before the deadline — Stearns will make a firm buy or sell decision. How do the NY Mets become buyers before Aug. 3?USA TODAY Sports via Reuters ConnectObviously, Mets fans are hoping that in the next 40-plus games, the roster can finally show its potential by getting back into contention for a Wild Card spot, and give Stearns reason to add to the roster. So what does the team need to do to force his hand and be buyers before Aug. 3?Britton believes they must “at least” have a record of 27-19 over the next 46 games. That would give them a 52-54 record when it’s time for Stearns to decide whether to buy or sell. “Anything less than that, and they’re almost certain to be sellers,” Britton writes. However, there is one major problem with reaching that record goal. The Mets’ schedule over the next few months is tough. Britton notes that only nine of the next 46 are against teams under .500 right now. And one of those series is against the defending American League champions Toronto Blue Jays. A team that could easily catch fire in the months ahead after a slow start. So if the Mets are going to become buyers later this season, they will need to win a lot of games, and against good teams. Those chances aren’t looking great.Related HeadlinesExplaining the Current MLB, MLBPA Negotiations: How Would A Salary Cap Affect Fans?Boston Red Sox Insider Sheds Light on Reputation of GM Craig BreslowNew York Yankees Rumors: Insider Predicts Potential Tarik Skubal Trade Package0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJerry Jones and Cowboys’ championship drought becomes harder to ignore as Spurs shine again — here’s whyJerry Jones and Cowboys’ championship drought becomes harder to ignore as Spurs shine again — here’s why originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have not returned to the NFC Championship Game since January, 1996, when they defeated the Green Bay Packers 38-27 before going on to win Super Bowl XXX. More than three decades have passed since that win, and throughout that span the franchise has repeatedly fallen short of advancing beyond the Divisional Round. In that exact same window, the San Antonio Spurs continued evolving their journeys. After the Cowboys’ last NFC Championship appearance, the Spurs selected Tim Duncan with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft. Over the following two decades, the basketball team reached six NBA Finals, won five championships, and established themselves as a model of consistency. They also put together a phenomenal streak of 18 straight 50-win seasons.Duncan retired in 2016, Manu Ginobili followed in 2018, and Tony Parker departed for Charlotte that same offseason. Around the same time, tensions with Kawhi Leonard resulted in a blockbuster trade, which ultimately forced the Spurs into a full-scale rebuild. That rebuilding process hit its lowest point during the 2022-23 season when the Spurs finished with a 22-60 record. However, the difficult season paid off when the organization secured the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and selected Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs also witnessed a big coaching change as Hall of Fame coach Gregg Popovich eventually stepped away, with Mitch Johnson taking over during the 2024-25 season. The Spurs displayed signs of progress, but they ended that campaign with a 34-48 record in the Western Conference. However, Wembanyama's squad vaulted from 34 wins to a blistering 62-20 record in the 2025-26 season. They have now returned to the NBA's biggest stage and are preparing for an NBA Finals showdown against the New York Knicks.Meanwhile, the Cowboys have gone 5-13 in the postseason across 30 years. The 2025 NFL season was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing year for them, as they had a 7–9–1 record and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. As the Spurs celebrate a dramatic return to championship contention, the Cowboys are still trying to end a decades-long drought. Jones, who saw the Cowboys winning three Super Bowl titles as owner and general manager, remains hopeful that the franchise can eventually reverse its fortunes and return to the NFL's elite tier.More NFL news:Michael Irvin drops ominous warning about Cowboys rookie after big bear hugDak Prescott and Cowboys face nightmare scenario as rival team acquires 23-sack superstarLamar Jackson has an obvious reason not to sign right nowSuper Bowl-winning Cowboys star doubles down on faith in Dak Prescott’s breakout potential in 2026 - here’s whyThere's a risk the OBJ signing is a mistake0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMRed states are declaring June something other than Pride Month in latest anti-LGBTQ+ trendMore red states are designating June as something other than Pride Month in an attempt to make a statement about their states’ lack of support for LGBTQ+ people. Tennessee kicked off the “rename June” trend this year by designating the month as “Nuclear Family Month.” The declaration said that nuclear families are “one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children” and “God’s design for familial structure.” Related Donald Trump has completely ignored the beginning of Pride month Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) declared June “Fidelity Month” yesterday to celebrate “Cultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country.” Sanders then shared a Daily Wire story explaining that she made this declaration specifically for the purpose of “Counter-Programming Pride Month.” Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed a proclamation last week declaring June “Strong Families Month.” The proclamation makes it clear that “strong families” do not include families headed by same-sex couples: “Homes led by stable parents, a father and a mother, provide children with the structure and discipline necessary to succeed.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Indiana Gov. Mike Braun (R) copied Tennessee’s wording and designated June “Nuclear Family Month” yesterday, saying that families “consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children” are “God’s design for the family structure.” And in Utah, Gov. Spencer Cox (R) declared last week that June is “Fidelity Month” and says that the U.S. Constitution was “made only for moral and religious people.” Conservatives generally oppose celebrations of LGBTQ+ Pride and have gone so far as to argue before the Supreme Court that they have a constitutional right to ignore the existence of LGBTQ+ people. The idea of having “pride” in being LGBTQ+ is a rejoinder to conservatives’ insistence that LGBTQ+ people should feel shame. The attacks began to focus more on June itself in the early 2020s, when conservative influencers targeted brands for celebrating Pride Month with rainbow products and advertising campaigns. Target and Bud Light faced particularly strong backlash. Right-wing influencers started recording themselves pretending to look disgusted at rainbow gear in Target, leading to threats of violence against employees. Conservative musician Kid Rock posted a video of himself shooting up four cases of Bud Light because the beer brand worked with a transgender person as part of its social media outreach. The declarations about June do nothing to diminish Pride Month, though. They don’t have any legal consequences and can’t forbid anyone from celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride. Moreover, a month can have multiple designations, like how May is simultaneously Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Jewish American Heritage Month, National Military Appreciation Month, and an awareness month for about a dozen health conditions, including skin cancer and asthma. The point is to show Republicans’ opposition to LGBTQ+ equality, a message that many on the right are hearing loud and clear. The Family Research Council (FRC) said that Pride Month “is off to a faltering start again this year,” highlighting Gov. Sanders’ opposition to “LGBT depravity.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMA.J. Brown reflects on accountability, media, and being the villainA.J. Brown understands that many Philadelphia Eagles fans viewed him as a polarizing figure during his four seasons with the organization. Looking back, the newly acquired New England Patriots wide receiver acknowledged that some of that perception was intentional. During a wide-ranging conversation with Maria Taylor on 7PM in Brooklyn following his departure from Philadelphia, Brown explained that he occasionally used the media as a tool to create accountability and generate urgency inside the locker room."I didn't mind being viewed as whatever picture was painted," Brown said. "Because I know, like my teammates know, I had their back."Brown rejected the idea that any of his public comments were motivated by personal recognition or self-interest. Instead, he said his goal was always to help the Eagles improve and maximize their championship potential."Nothing I ever said was for personal gain," Brown said. "It was always to help this team win and try to be our better self."The All-Pro receiver admitted that some of his comments were delivered strategically."I know if I say something in the media, I know it's going," Brown said, suggesting he understood the impact his words would have on public discourse and inside the building. At the same time, Brown acknowledged that his approach evolved over time. One of the biggest lessons he said he learned in Philadelphia was understanding when honesty can become counterproductive."Telling the truth out of season is worse than a lie," Brown said. "Not everything needs to be said, even if I feel like it's best."Brown, who was voted a team captain three consecutive seasons, said he still believes accountability is an essential part of leadership. He described himself as one of the players willing to have uncomfortable conversations and challenge teammates face-to-face when necessary."We pushed each other," Brown said. "We didn't really care who was uncomfortable."As he begins a new chapter in New England, Brown said his leadership philosophy is changing. Rather than creating pressure publicly, he plans to focus more on serving teammates and helping wherever he can. The comments provide insight into a player who often became the subject of debate in Philadelphia. Brown's view is simpler: he was never trying to be the villain. He was trying to help the Eagles win. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Why A.J. Brown embraced criticism to push the Eagles0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy a rising star is yet to feature under Diniz at CorinthiansWhy a rising star is yet to feature under Diniz at CorinthiansConsidered one of the gems of Corinthians’ youth academy, 19-year-old forward Gui Negão is going through a spell on the sidelines. The player has yet to log any minutes since coach Fernando Diniz arrived, having last played on March 22 against Flamengo in the Brazilian Championship.Because of this, ge detailed the reasons behind the youngster’s absence from Timão’s recent matches:1. The impact of the injuryThe lack of playing time began for medical reasons. Shortly after the match against Flamengo, Gui Negão suffered a strain in the hamstring of his right thigh during a Brazil U-20 training session held at CT Joaquim Grava itself. The issue kept him out for more than a month, and he was only included in the squad again on May 3 against Mirassol.2. The adjustment period under the new coachSince being cleared by the medical department, the forward has been on the bench for nine matches but has not been used. Asked after the comeback win over Grêmio, Fernando Diniz explained the decision based on timing and the amount of work done:"I've been here for less than two months, and Gui Negão has been with me for less than a month in condition to take part. There are other players who were more familiar with the work. (...) It's a matter of opportunity—it's not possible to put in ten players. You only have five substitutions."3. Praise behind the scenes, but strong competitionDespite not getting on the field, the coach made a point of praising the youngster’s dedication in training and his connection to the club. At the moment, Gui Negão is competing for a spot with Yuri Alberto and Pedro Raul — who, despite going through a low-scoring spell, had been more actively involved in Diniz’s initial methods. This season, the young forward has made 12 appearances, played 637 minutes, and scored one goal.Next stepsNow, the coaching staff and squad will have plenty of time to align their work. Corinthians are on vacation until June 25 due to the break for the 2026 World Cup. The team will only return to the field on July 12 for a friendly against Cascavel in Paraná.This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Tottenham Hotspur eyeing move to sign 21-year-old forwardReport: Tottenham Hotspur eyeing move to sign 21-year-old forwardTottenham Transfer News: Jean Matteo Bahoya Interest Signals Ambitious Spurs SummerCredit to TEAMtalk for the original information on Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest in Jean Matteo Bahoya, the Eintracht Frankfurt winger now emerging as one of the more intriguing names of the summer window.Bahoya Profile Fits De Zerbi VisionTottenham’s interest in Bahoya feels like the sort of transfer story that tells us as much about the direction of the club as it does about the player himself. At 21, the French winger represents risk, projection and possibility, three things that tend to sit at the heart of any serious rebuild.Bahoya, signed by Frankfurt from Angers in January 2024, has built his reputation around acceleration, direct running and the ability to disturb settled defensive shapes. For Roberto De Zerbi, that profile makes obvious sense. His football needs players who can stretch the pitch, receive under pressure and turn possession into incision.Photo IMAGOSpurs have had too many spells where the ball has moved without enough menace. Bahoya’s appeal is that he offers something sharper. He is not merely another body for the forward line, he is a player who could alter the rhythm of attacks.Frankfurt Valuation Creates Transfer TestTEAMtalk report that Frankfurt value Bahoya at around €70million, £60.5m, $81.4m, with his contract running until 2029. That matters. This is not a vulnerable selling club with a player approaching the final stages of his deal. Frankfurt can wait. Tottenham, if their interest hardens, will need to act with conviction. That fee also changes the tone of the pursuit. At £60.5m, Bahoya would not be a speculative addition. He would arrive with expectation, pressure and a sense that Spurs believe he can become a defining figure in De Zerbi’s attacking structure. There is also wider interest to consider. Previous attention from Saudi Pro League clubs, including Al Hilal and Al Ittihad, only adds to the sense that Frankfurt know they hold a valuable asset.Spurs Need More Than NumbersTottenham’s need for attacking reinvention is clear. They require youth, yes, but not youth for its own sake. They need dynamism with purpose, pace with intelligence, and technical quality that survives Premier League intensity.Bahoya’s versatility is a key part of the attraction. He can operate wide on either side or as an attacking midfielder, which would give De Zerbi more flexibility in a system built on rotation, angles and overloads. Spurs have too often looked like a side searching for one more pass rather than one decisive action.A player like Bahoya would not solve every issue, but he would make Tottenham less predictable.Summer Statement Carries RiskFor supporters, the temptation is obvious. A young French winger, already tested in the Bundesliga and Europe, carrying a major price tag and admired across the continent, has the feel of a marquee move. But Spurs have learned before that promise must be accompanied by structure. Bahoya would need a clear role, patience and a platform. The fee would demand immediate impact, while his age would require time. That is the tension at the heart of this report. Tottenham want to behave like a club building the future, but they also need results now. Bahoya sits right between those two demands. Our View – EPL Index AnalysisFrom a Tottenham supporter’s perspective, this is exactly the type of link that excites and worries in equal measure. Bahoya sounds like a player made for the modern Premier League, quick, flexible, aggressive in possession and still young enough to be shaped by a coach with strong attacking principles. The concern is the price. £60.5m is serious money for a player many Spurs fans will still be learning about. That does not mean he lacks quality, but it does mean the recruitment department must be absolutely certain. Tottenham cannot afford another summer of expensive maybes.Still, there is something encouraging about the ambition. If De Zerbi wants wide players who can isolate defenders, attack space and combine centrally, Bahoya appears to make sense. Spurs need more unpredictability in the final third. Too often, attacks have felt tidy rather than terrifying. The question is whether this would be the flagship attacking signing or part of a wider rebuild. If Bahoya arrives alongside smart additions in midfield and defence, supporters may see a coherent plan. If he becomes the one big splash, the pressure on him could become unfair very quickly. For now, it feels like a rumour worth watching. Not because it is guaranteed, but because it hints at the kind of Tottenham De Zerbi may want to build.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho could be in line for the World Cup Golden Boot?Who could be in line for the World Cup Golden Boot? With football’s biggest stars all set to battle it out at this summer’s World Cup, there is plenty to be excited about.Aside from the team glory of winning the whole competition, there are plenty of ways for a player to enjoy a successful tournament. One such way would be by scoring the most goals at the tournament and claiming the prestigious World Cup Golden Boot. Here are some of the stars that will be in the running for the Golden Boot at this summer’s World Cup…Erling HaalandWho better to start with than Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has won three of the last four Premier League Golden Boots and is quite frankly a goalscoring machine. The striker netted a staggering 16 goals in eight qualifying matches, as he helped his nation reach the tournament for the first time in almost 30 years.Although Haaland has Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard on hand to create for him, Norway do not have the strongest national team. Consequently, the Manchester City striker is somewhat of an outsider for the top scorer prize. You can take advantage of that fact and discover him at even bigger odds by using the price boost finder.Harry KaneHarry Kane has been in red-hot form for Bayern Munich this season. The England captain has fired home an extraordinary 61 goals in 51 matches for his club, and will arrive at the tournament at the top of his game.Kane also has the benefit of knowing exactly what it takes to claim the prize too. He won the World Cup Golden Boot back in 2018. With England expected to go far in the competition, there is every reason to believe that Thomas Tuchel’s star striker will be in and around the top of the scoring charts.Kylian MbappeKylian Mbappe too knows how to win this prize. The Frenchman is the most-recent winner of the World Cup Golden Boot, after claiming it in Qatar in 2022. The 27-year-old is one of the most lethal finishers in the entire history of the competition, and is already within touching distance of Miroslav Klose’s all-time World Cup goal record. However, the forward is not coming into this summer’s tournament in the best shape. It has been a tumultuous season at Real Madrid, with Mbappe often at the centre of controversy. Regardless, France will hope this has no impact on his performances for his national side.Lionel MessiLionel Messi is, of course, also amongst the favourites for the World Cup Golden Boot. It is one prize that has eluded him during his illustrious career. However he will be turning 39 midway through the group stage, and his best chance to claim the prize may well have already been and gone.Lamine YamalLamine Yamal has been touted for the award, despite not being the most lethal attacker. The 18-year-old is yet to break 50 senior goals for Barcelona. Despite this, spearheading the attack of a strong Spain side, he should have plenty of opportunities to run up his goal tally – especially in fixtures against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.Cristiano RonaldoFinally, Cristiano Ronaldo is also in the running for the prize. In what will surely be his last World Cup, the Portuguese icon would love to go out in style. However, he was no longer up to scratch in the last edition of the tournament and was eventually dropped from the starting lineup. Four years later and now aged 41, it is hard to imagine the forward setting the competition alight.0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 NBA mock draft: Sixers select Koa Peat with the No. 22 pickThe Philadelphia 76ers will have plenty of options to peruse as they look to make the right selection with the No. 22 pick in the draft. They have a new President of Basketball Operations in the form of former Cleveland Cavaliers GM Mike Gansey and will now look ahead to draft night on June 23.As the Sixers move ahead, there are holes to fill on the roster. They could use more help off the bench as the second unit had its struggles in the playoffs and they could use help at the backup big man spot behind Joel Embiid going forward.A mock draft put together by CBS Sports has the Sixers selecting Arizona big man Koa Peat at No. 22:Peat is a relentlessly physical forward whose stock is hindered by a 3-point shot that was MIA during his lone college season at Arizona. But Peat will be able to hold his own against nearly anyone defensively from day one. If the outside shot comes along, Peat will be an NBA starter.Peat averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists as a freshman for the Wildcats in 2025-26 as he was able to make an impact despite not having much of a jumper. Sixers Wire did a full deep dive on Peat, which can be read here, and looked at his strengths, weaknesses, and potential fit on the Sixers. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: 2026 NBA mock draft: Sixers select Koa Peat with the No. 22 pick0 Comments 0 Shares 50 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWill Auburn football stay hot and land four-star LB Isaac McNeil? The Auburn Tigers have been on a recruiting tear lately by adding three commitments to their 2027 class since Sunday. Will the Tigers' heater continue by adding a fourth in such a short span?Four-star linebacker Isaac McNeil is set to announce his commitment on Tuesday. Where does Auburn stand? Heading into Tuesday's decision, there is no clear favorite as Florida, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia join Auburn as the final schools in pursuit of Alabama's No. 2 prospect. However, one outlet has a sense of who could win the race. The Vigor High School product only has one prediction from Rivals, and it favors the Auburn Tigers. Rivals' recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction in February favoring McNeil would commit to Auburn, which gives the Tigers an 86% chance to emerge as the winning program on Tuesday. Recency bias could also aid Auburn, as the Tigers hosted McNeil for an official visit last weekend. The successful weekend has resulted in the commitments of cornerback Nash Johnson, kicker Noah Ash, and running back Kingston Miles, and Auburn hopes to add its fourth in McNeil.Auburn football holds the nation's No. 19 class from the 2027 recruiting cycle, according to Rivals, and the No. 26 class, according to 247Sports, before McNeil's decision. McNeill, the No. 6 linebacker from the 2027 recruiting cycle, would certainly push Auburn into the top 25 of 247Sports' rankings and could give the Tigers a boost in SEC competition in Rivals' rankings with a commitment on Tuesday. If McNeil commits to Auburn on Tuesday, he would join three-star linebacker Kareem Palmer in Auburn's 2027 haul. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMercury 'weren't close tonight,' in blowout loss to Minnesota LynxThe Phoenix Mercury changed their lineup since their first meeting against the Minnesota Lynx, but the glaring troubles on defense remained. Defensive issues have plagued the Mercury throughout the now-six-game losing streak, and the abysmal rematch, a 111-77 rout at Mortgage Matchup Center on Monday, June 1, hit a low point. “We’ve got to keep our head down and keep working,” coach Nate Tibbetts said. “We weren’t close tonight. We’ve battled in some games, and tonight, we did not.” The Mercury (2-8) were down by 20 points as early as 6:26 in the second quarter and couldn't slow down the Lynx’s duo of Olivia Miles and Courtney Williams, who combined for 49 points. The Lynx scored 67 points in the first half, the third-most in a half in a road game in the WNBA's 30 seasons. Minnesota finished the half hitting 75% with 27 field goals. Miles and Williams accounted for 13 field goals and 32 points before the break. The Mercury raised a white flag when down 32 points; all five starters sat out the fourth quarter. The Mercury’s spacing issues didn’t allow for consistency and the team turned the ball over 14 times, leading to 23 points from the Lynx. “I just felt we needed to play harder offensively. We know what we have to do,” Kahleah Copper said. “But we missed a lot of shots in the paint and in transition and not being matched up and running back.” With spacing becoming a problem, Miles and Williams took advantage. Tibbetts said the team planned to assign defensive-minded guards Monique Akoa Makani and Lexi Held to Miles after the rookie guard out of TCU posted 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds in her first meeting against the Mercury on May 21. But in the second meeting, Miles caused even more trouble. It didn’t matter who the Mercury assigned to her; Miles scored off mismatches, rew contact and went downhill. When she’d get double-teamed, she’d find an open Williams for an uncontested 3-pointer. The formula worked excellently for the Lynx as Miles and Williams accounted for 44.1% of the Lynx’s offense. Williams scored a game-high 30 points and shot 13-of-20, while the Lynx shot 44-of-69 (63.8%). Miles had 19 points and nine assists. Copper led the Mercury with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Starting forward Noemie Brochant looked more comfortable in the offense early in the game, hitting three 3-pointers and finishing with 11 points. The Mercury continue to make changes amid their slow start, waiving guard Kiana Williams on May 31. Williams’ departure allowed the team to bring back Held, who was recently waived by the Toronto Tempo. Held spent her first and only season in Phoenix in 2025, where she made an impact on defense off the bench and provided “hard play” and “hustle,” according to Tibbetts.Held played 14 minutes in her debut and scored five points on 1-of-3 shooting. The Mercury won’t catch a break yet, and begin a four-game road trip in Seattle on Wednesday, June 3. “I don’t think today really reflects who we are and what we want to be able to represent for the organization,” Copper said. “We’re going to get it right and we’re going to figure it out.” Reach the reporter or send tips for stories at jenna.ortiz@arizonarepublic.com, as well as @jennarortiz on X. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMPete Hegseth promises to appeal ruling against trans military ban to Supreme CourtA federal appeals court ruled against the trans military ban yesterday, saying that it violates the Constitution and was created just to target “a politically unpopular group.” Now, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth says that he will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. Related Military students sue Pete Hegseth for “whitewashing” libraries with anti-DEI book bans “See you at SCOTUS,” he posted to social media in response to a reporter who posted about the ruling. See you at SCOTUS. https://t.co/BhLprXz5Im— Pete Hegseth (@PeteHegseth) June 1, 2026 Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today Hegseth has been a major supporter of the ban, which was implemented by executive order in January 2025. “No more pronouns. No more climate change obsession. No more emergency vaccine mandates. No more dudes in dresses, we’re done with that s**t,” he said in a speech in May 2025. While the three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled 2-1 in Talbott v. USA, which ruled against the part of the trans military ban that forces active duty service members out of the military, it will not stop the Department of Defense from kicking trans people out. That’s because the Supreme Court already ruled last year that the administration could implement the trans military ban while the several legal challenges to it work their way through the legal system. Judge Robert Wilkins, a Barack Obama appointee, wrote for the court that the ban “appears to be driven by the bare desire to harm a politically unpopular group: persons who identify as transgender.” Wilkins was joined by Bill Clinton appointee, Judge Judith Rogers, the AP reports. Judge Justin Walker, who was appointed by Donald Trump, dissented, arguing that judges have “neither the expertise nor the authority” to determine who can join the military. Trump signed an executive order in January 2025 banning transgender people from serving in the military. The order said that trans people are, by definition, unable to meet the military’s “high standards” and that having a gender identity that does not align with one’s sex assigned at birth is proof that a person cannot be “honorable, truthful, and disciplined.” Within two months, out federal Judge Ana Reyes ruled against it, saying it violates trans servicemembers’ Fifth Amendment due process rights and “invokes derogatory language to target a vulnerable group.” “The cruel irony is that thousands of transgender servicemembers have sacrificed – some risking their lives – to ensure for others the very equal protection rights the military ban seeks to deny them,” wrote Reyes, a Joe Biden appointee. “This is such a sigh of relief,” said Army Reserves 2nd Lt. Nicolas Talbott, the lead plaintiff in the case, at the time. “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do. This is my dream job, and I finally have it. And I was so terrified that I was about to lose it.” The government appealed the decision, leading to yesterday’s appeals court ruling. The administration can now appeal to the full appeals court or directly to the Supreme Court.
