SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCan Packers Running Back Marshawn Lloyd Finally ‘Prove It’?Green Bay Packers running back Marshawn Lloyd (32) has missed 33 of 34 NFL games due to a bevy of injuries.Copyright 2026 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.Prove it.That’s been Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur’s message to third year running back Marshawn Lloyd this offseason. To date, the oft-injured Lloyd has proven nothing. He hopes things finally begin to change in 2026.“I can’t do anything until I make it happen,” said Lloyd, the Packers third round draft pick in 2024. “Coach LaFleur says, prove it. If I want to change that narrative, prove it.”In two NFL seasons, Lloyd’s stat line reads like this: one game, six carries, 15 yards.Lloyd has missed a remarkable 33 of 34 games with hamstring, ankle, groin and calf injuries, as well as an emergency appendectomy. In the one game Lloyd played — against Indianapolis in Week 2 of 2024 — he logged just 10 snaps. With Josh Jacobs facing potential legal issues and the running room devoid of a proven No. 2 back, the Packers would love to count on Lloyd in 2026. But that’s risky business the way his first two seasons have gone.“I think the proof will be in the pudding,” LaFleur said of Lloyd. “He’s got to show that consistently over the course of all of OTAs, into training camp, into the preseason, and then we’ll see where we go from there.”Lloyd, who stands just 5-foot-8 ½ and weighs 215, was the fourth running back taken in the 2024 draft behind Jonathon Brooks of Texas (pick No. 46 to Carolina), Florida State’s Trey Benson (No. 66, Arizona) and Michigan’s Blake Corum (No. 83, Los Angeles Rams). On draft weekend, Lloyd made a lofty prediction.“I’m the best running back in the draft, for sure,” Lloyd said. That statement seems laughable today after Lloyd has had two wasted seasons.Lloyd missed the 2024 season opener with a hamstring injury. Then after playing in Week 2 against the Colts, Lloyd spent seven weeks on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury. When Lloyd finally appeared ready to return, he suffered an emergency appendectomy and missed the rest of the season. In 2025, Lloyd pulled a groin at the start of training camp, then suffered a severe hamstring injury that sidelined him for the majority of the season. Lloyd also dealt with a calf injury and additional hamstring strains as he tried to return, and never saw the field last season.“It was definitely hard,” Lloyd said. “It was definitely hard being on the sideline knowing I could help. I know I can be a part of this team and help in any way possible. I think that was the biggest thing.”Lloyd spent the majority of his offseason at the Meyer Institute of Sport in El Segundo, Calif, working with Dr. John Meyer.“California’s expensive,” Lloyd said.Lloyd is optimistic it will be money well spent, though, as he and Meyer targeted several areas that needed improvement.“Honestly just the deficiency in my body, things not being as strong, overcompensating, back to all the way from college, my ACL, just things that didn’t get the strength they needed,” Lloyd said. “I had to re-evaluate that, get my quads stronger, get my whole body stronger, honestly. I’ve been able to go to him, get those things figured out. It’s been really good.”The Packers still have a sliver of hope that Lloyd can be “really good” for them.Lloyd averaged 7.1 yards per carry with USC during his final college season in 2023. He then ran the 40-yard dash in 4.45 seconds and seemingly has big play potential — if he can stay on the field.“I mean he can do things that the other guys can't, in terms of his speed and quickness,” Green Bay running backs coach Ben Sirmans said. “He's the fastest and the quickest guy that we have. So if he's healthy … for him to be there, it does make our job easier from having another guy back there that's going to add some explosiveness to the offense.”Lloyd knows this is likely his last chance to impress. In fact, he admits he feels fortunate the Packers have stuck with him this long.“Usually in the NFL … you don’t play for two years, you’re gone,” Lloyd said.Instead, he’s still in Green Bay, and believes he can be a difference maker. Now is the time to “prove it”, or it’s likely Lloyd will be out of chances.“That’s never been a doubt,” Lloyd said of why he believes he can thrive. “I know I’m meant to be here. I know the team believes in me, and I believe in myself a lot. It’ll be fun. It’ll be fun. “There’s a lot of people that still believe in me as well. I know when my time comes and it’s time to go, I’ll show a lot of people why the Packers drafted me, almost three years ago now. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re coming, though.”This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Chris MacFarland's history with Avs makes him 'perfect' GM fit for PredatorsAfter a four-month search, the Nashville Predators have found Barry Trotz's replacement, naming Chris MacFarland president of hockey operations and general manager on June 2.MacFarland spent the past 11 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, working as general manager since the 2022-23 season. Since he joined them in 2015, they have won the Presidents' Trophy twice (2021, 2026); made the playoffs in nine straight seasons (2018-2026); made the Western Conference finals twice (2022, 2026); and won the Stanley Cup (2022).MacFarland's résumé — which includes being named a finalist for the 2026 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award — should placate a fan base growing concerned that the Predators were too patient in their search. To that point, majority owner Bill Haslam said in a news release that MacFarland was in their sights the whole time."All along, we were hopeful to interview Chris (MacFarland)," Haslam said. "He turned out to be a perfect fit for us, just what we were looking for to lead our organization moving forward."But what makes MacFarland a perfect fit for Nashville? Chris MacFarland's success with Colorado Avalanche MacFarland's time with Colorado began on May 21, 2015, when he was hired as assistant general manager to then-GM Joe Sakic. At the time, the Avalanche were a bottom-dweller in the Central Division. They finished seventh in the division in 2014-15, sixth in 2015-16, and dropped to last place in the NHL in 2016-17. That season was rock-bottom for Colorado, but it fueled a meteoric rise to the top of the league, with MacFarland a key contributor. With Nathan MacKinnon, drafted No. 1 overall in 2013, blooming into a superstar, the Avalanche added forward Mikko Rantanen in 2015 (No. 10 overall), then defenseman Cale Makar in 2017 (No. 4 overall). MacFarland was there for both picks, as well as for depth additions A.J. Greer (2015), Tyson Jost (2016), Conor Timmins (2017) and Alex Newhook (2019).Draft success led to on-ice success, which led to trades to bolster the roster. In the years leading to their Stanley Cup run, the Avalanche added several key players who contributed heavily to their Cup win in 2022, including:J.T. Compher from Buffalo for Ryan O'Reilly, Jamie McGinn (June 2015)Samuel Girard from Ottawa/Nashville for Matt Duchene, sending Kyle Turris to Nashville (November 2017)Nazem Kadri from Toronto for Tyson Barrie, Alex Kerfoot, 2020 sixth-round pick (July 2019)Devon Toews from New York Islanders for 2021 second-round pick, 2022 second-round pick (October 2020)Josh Manson from Anaheim for Drew Helleson, 2023 second-round pick (March 2022)Artturi Lehkonen from Montreal for Justin Barron, 2024 second-round pick (March 2022)After being named GM in 2022, MacFarland continued Sakic's work in the trade market, acquiring Martin Necas from Carolina and Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders in 2025. He also added Nicolas Roy and Kadri (for the second time) ahead of the Avalanche's 2026 playoff run. In particular, the Necas trade was tidy work to sidestep a contract headache with star winger Rantanen. After it became clear Rantanen would not sign long-term in Colorado, MacFarland added Necas in January 2025, then signed him to an eight-year, $92 million deal. Necas had 100 points (38 goals, 62 assists) in his first year of the deal.It makes you wonder if MacFarland, who watched Sakic avoid a similar headache with Duchene in 2017, was taking notes. On that point, it's fair to ask how much of Colorado's impressive roster was MacFarland's work and how much was Sakic's. For the entirety of MacFarland's 11 seasons in Colorado, Sakic presided over him, both as general manager and as president of hockey operations. When Sakic signed Makar to a six-year deal in 2021, did MacFarland help? When MacFarland signed MacKinnon to an eight-year deal in 2022, did Sakic help?According to the Avalanche, the two worked nearly in tandem. MacFarland "worked closely with Joe Sakic regarding all hockey-related matters," according to the team website, and MacFarland's bio frequently matches many of Sakic's accomplishments with his own (and vice versa).DRAFT: Why the Nashville Predators could select a defenseman at No. 10 in 2026 NHL DraftBut whether MacFarland is the mastermind or merely Sakic's stand-in, the Predators are getting an executive with proven experience turning a loser into a winner. As he arrives in Nashville, with a hockey team not much better than the Avalanche were in 2015, the Predators are hoping he can do it again.Alex Daugherty is the Predators beat writer for The Tennessean. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMilan Momcilovic gives Kentucky a major bump in 2026-27 college basketball rankingsKentucky Basketball entered the offseason with plenty of uncertainty after losing several key players to graduation, the transfer portal, and the NBA Draft. While Mark Pope successfully retained Malachi Moreno, Kam Williams, and Brayden Hawthorne, many national analysts still viewed the Wildcats as a team on the outside looking in.That changed when Iowa State transfer forward Milan Momcilovic committed to Kentucky.Momcilovic, one of the nation’s top shooters and easily the biggest remaining available transfer, immediately boosted Kentucky’s national perception heading into the 2026-27 season. Before and After the Momcilovic CommitmentESPN’s Jeff BorzelloBefore: UnrankedAfter: No. 17 nationallyBorzello previously left Kentucky out of his Top 25 rankings altogether. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTexas Tech EDGE commit moves up Wisconsin visit as he weighs final decisionWisconsin will host a Texas Tech defensive line commit this weekend in an attempt to pull off a flip. Hoisington (Kan.) High three-star EDGE Brody Pfannenstiel tells me for Rivals that he’ll be in Madison this weekend. Pfannenstiel was supposed to initially visit Wisconsin June 12 weekend but wants to get the visit in sooner. “Yes sir, I wanted to move it up,” Pfannenstiel said.“I have a great connection with Coach Mitchell and they’ve shown consistent interest with keeping in contact. I’m excited to see the environment.”As of right now, Wisconsin is the only schools that the Kansas native is even considering outside of Texas Tech. Nebraska, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt have all pushed for official visits from the 6-foot-4, 220-pound EDGE. “I’m committed to Texas Tech but hopefully after my OV to Wisconsin it should be final. Still going through the process,” Pfannenstiel said. The Badgers have stayed in consistent contact with Pfannenstiel even after his pledge to Texas Tech in March. That consistency has earned the program an official visit. Now we’ll see if the Badgers can complete the flip away from the Red Raiders.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMiami Heat predicted to lose All-Star in free agencyMiami Heat predicted to lose All-Star in free agency originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Norman Powell turned in a solid season for the Miami Heat in 2025-26. He led the team in scoring with 21.7 points per performance and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. But despite his productive play, the Heat may not be able, or willing, to retain Powell over the offseason. He's headed for unrestricted free agency. Miami Heat predicted to lose Norman Powell in free agency In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Grant Hughes predicted that the Heat will lose Powell in free agency, likely by choice. "It might only take midlevel money to retain Norman Powell in unrestricted free agency, but the Miami Heat have plenty of reasons to let the 33-year-old shooting guard walk away. First, they'd probably need to extend Powell's new deal out multiple years to beat the market," Hughes wrote. "Miami's broader plans are uncertain and could include a superstar trade, but most fallback options involve preserving cap space for 2027. Committing to Powell's decline phase wouldn't make sense in that scenario—not with Tyler Herro playing the same position (with many of the same flaws). ... The Heat landed Powell for virtually nothing last offseason, and he outplayed his $20 million salary for long stretches. Those facts aren't enough to make him a surefire keeper." WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMMAGA hate preacher says smoking marijuana makes men “spiritually gay”Christian nationalist hate pastor Joel Webbon — a man who blames Jewish people for everything he hates and thinks maybe Adolf Hitler wasn’t so bad after all — said in a May 30 X video that Christian men should smoke tobacco to help restore the nation because marijuana makes men “spiritually gay.” “I think you know one of the biggest propaganda psyops that we’ve experienced in the last 50-60 years is the war against tobacco and nicotine, that tobacco and nicotine are the worst thing in the world, and they’ll kill you and give you cancer. I don’t believe that,” he said, ignoring decades of scientific and medical research. Related GOP candidate struggles to burn rainbow flag on top of U-Haul truck while screaming at 2 people He suggested that tobacco-related cancers are actually caused by chemicals and pesticides sprayed onto the leaves. He said that nicotine is anti-viral (which isn’t true) as well as anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic (which are true). He also said tobacco and nicotine boost testosterone levels to make men “more masculine,” increase focus, and reduce appetite and weight. While tobacco and nicotine can temporarily induce these effects, doctors don’t use them for those purposes due to their high toxicity, adverse side effects, addiction risks, and long-term harm to the cardiovascular system and lungs. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “Do you think the government has perhaps a vested interest in kind of boarding that type of man, because that man is a lot harder to control, harder to manipulate?” he claimed, suggesting that government anti-smoking efforts are to make a docile population rather than say, to prevent respiratory illnesses. He also said the government has increasingly legalized marijuana because, “It makes you less masculine, more feminine, soft, gay — at least spiritually gay,” adding, “Marijuana causes you not to focus, not to lock in, not to be ambitious. It makes you cloudy, fuzzy, lazy, unambitious.” While his generalizations apply to some marijuana users, the same cannot be broadly applied to successful users like billionaire entrepreneurs Martha Stewart, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, and famous artists like Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen King, Lady Gaga, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg, not to mention numerous politicians. “Hard times create nicotine men,” he said. “Nicotine men, they work hard and create good times. Good times create weed boys, and weed boys ruin the world. That’s where we are right now. We don’t need weed boys. If anything, we need nicotine men. It built the country, and perhaps by the grace of God, it can restore the country.” Does the Bible permit Christians to use Nicotine? pic.twitter.com/WJoU48Div0— Joel Webbon (@JoelWebbon) May 30, 2026 Numerous nicotine addicts who commented on Webbon’s video said there’s nothing manly about addiction, noted that nicotine reduce sperm production, talked about the positive benefits marijuana had on their appetite and spiritual life, told him not to connect Christ to drug addiction, and wondered whether he was being paid to promote tobacco. But interestingly, Webbon isn’t the only religious fanatic to make these kinds of claims. In early 2017, Dr. Wesley Muhammad of the Nation of Islam (a doctor of Islamic Studies, by the way, not medicine) presented his conspiracy theory that the U.S. government introduced chemically-treated, “weaponized” marijuana into Black communities as a way of “feminizing” its men. According to Muhammad, the secret manhood-destroying properties of this gay-inducing marijuana partially diverts or blocks masculinization of the nervous system through use of an anti-androgen that bonds to “melanated (Black) tissue,” releasing poisons into Black bodies for life. The only proof Muhammad offered was his repeatedly use of the phrase “we have documented.” To figure it out if Muhammad was correct, drug writer JS Rafaeli asked Jason Tantra, the man behind Tantra 4 Gay Men, a group that uses spiritual and sexual exploration as a sacred act to elevate gay and bi men to a higher spiritual plane, if marijuana does actually make men gay. Rafaeli told Tantra that some male web users have reported feeling more open to sex with men when stoned. Tantra replied that marijuana can dull inhibitions and remove the filters and protections that people use to conform to everyday life. “A straight person is not going to become gay – but if there are some latent feelings towards either sex, their repression may be lifted to act on that truth in themselves,” Tantra said. Rafaeli also spoke with gay drug users who say that marijuana allowed them to feel more of a bodily high and feel more present in their lovemaking. Tantra concluded that, because cannabis heightens one’s sensitivity to touch, taste and sound, it can definitely make one feel more openly sexual, and that one should approach its “powerful and enriching” effects cautiously and consciously. Webbon previously blamed Jewish people for turning the United States into “a very gay nation” filled with transgender people, abortion, low wages, and “the LGBTQ.” In June 2024, Webbon went off on “degenerate” gays, saying that death, as a “maximum penalty,” would act as a deterrent to homosexuality. He also heartily agreed with a guest that 17% of gay men regularly eat feces. Webbon has also previously said that Black civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. is in Hell and that racist, slave-owning Confederate leaders are in Heaven. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBedford girls lacrosse team slows it down, gets first-round playoff win over DoverBEDFORD — Once the Bedford High School girls lacrosse team slowed down, its scoring got going in its 10-7 NHIAA Division I first-round win over Dover on Tuesday.Powered by three goals from senior attacker Eloise Montagano, Bedford scored five of the game’s final six goals to earn its comeback win at Bulldog Stadium. The eighth-seeded Bulldogs (9-8) will play at top-seeded and undefeated Portsmouth (15-0) in the quarterfinals on Thursday (5 p.m.). Ninth-seeded Dover finished with a 6-10 record.Early on, Montagano said Bedford was frantic and kept shooting right at Dover sophomore goalkeeper Leighton Kelly.“I feel like placing our shots helped a lot in the fourth quarter,” Montagano said. The Green Wave led 6-5 at halftime before Montagano’s three second-half goals powered a 5-0 Bedford run.Montagano knotted the score at 6-6 with her goal that came with 4:04 left in the third quarter and put Bedford ahead for good with a cutting goal that she scored 1:39 into the fourth frame. The Connecticut College commit finished with a game-high five goals.“We expect a lot of her and she usually comes through,” Bulldogs coach Christine Hodgdon said of Montagano, a two-year varsity player who has scored more than 100 goals.Bedford’s second-half run was also aided by sophomore Mary Lenti’s stellar effort on the draw.Lenti secured 16 of the game’s 21 draw controls and went 6-for-8 on the draw in the second half. She helped the Bulldogs dominate possession over the opening seven minutes of the fourth quarter.Lenti, who did not play in Bedford’s 9-6 season-opening victory at Dover, recorded her 250th career draw control in Tuesday’s triumph.“I definitely thought that that would be the difference-maker and it (was),” Hodgdon said of having Lenti for the rematch.Kelly stood on her head in the Dover cage with 10 saves, eight of which came in the first half. She excelled at denying low shots from the Bulldogs, which Montagano said are their favorite shots to take.In her first varsity season this spring, Kelly made nearly 120 saves.Dover coach Gabbie Haug, a former goalie at Oyster River, said she worked a lot with Kelly last season.“She’s a good backbone,” Haug said. “She kept us in the game today.”Offensively, the Green Wave got four goals from junior Khloe Healy and one each from Kyra Small, Kaitlyn Bastille and Declyn Mangum.Alongside five goals from Montagano, Bedford received two goals from Lenti and a hat trick from senior Carly Hodgdon-Rogers.Bulldogs senior goalies Vye Hodgdon-Rogers and Irene Tsai made one save each.Hodgdon said Bedford’s quarterfinal against two-time defending Division I champion Portsmouth will be difficult. The Clippers are deep, experienced and talented, she said.Portsmouth beat Bedford 18-4 in the regular season.“It’s hard to match up with a team like that but we’re going to give it our best game and we are going to show up,” Hodgdon said.ahall@unionleader.com0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWellington's Nate Blehm is Blue FCU's top spring sports boys athleteThis week's special edition of the Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week determined our top local high school boys athlete for the spring sports season.Wellington baseball's Nate Blehm took top spring honors in the Fort Collins area with a tremendous two-way season on the diamond. The junior could do it all for the Eagles. That included leading Wellington to the program's first-ever postseason wins and state appearance, making the Class 3A tournament.Blehm was outstanding on all fronts this spring. It has to start on the mound. The right-hander mowed batters down all season, compiling a 6-2 record with a sparkling 1.80 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 42 innings. He tossed three shutouts, didn't allow more than three runs to any Colorado team and went five-plus innings in seven of his eight starts.Dominant pitching alone is ultra-valuable in high school baseball, but Blehm did plenty more. The junior hit .312 with 10 RBIs. Plus, he was Wellington's regular catcher when he wasn't pitching, giving quality innings behind the plate at a demanding position. It all came together during the Eagles' magical upset run through regionals.First, No. 22 Wellington eked out a 6-5 win over No. 11 Sterling in the opener, and Blehm caught every inning while providing a difference-making RBI single at the plate.Hours later, he turned around and tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout to blank host and No. 6 seed Prospect Ridge Academy in a 4-0 regional championship.Blehm was also responsible for Wellington's first-ever win at the state tournament, pitching another complete game with two runs allowed and five strikeouts in a 5-2 victory vs. Delta. While the Eagles lose several key seniors from this year's state squad, Blehm and a core of several other starters should have Wellington baseball firmly in state contention again next spring.Wellington fans showed out at the polls for their two-way star, pushing Blehm past the field in a tight race with 47.3% of the vote. That was ultimately enough to beat out the other four fantastic spring nominees:Dylan Rubenstein, Fort Collins baseball (runner-up with 47.2%)Sam Lofstrom, Rocky swimmingCadel Ruthven, Fort Collins track and fieldAlec Lundy, Heritage Christian track and fieldThe Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named later in the week. With the high school seasons complete, stay tuned throughout June to vote in head-to-head brackets for the top Fort Collins-area boys and girls athletes of the entire 2025-26 school year.View the final results:Chris Abshire covers high school and community sports for the Coloradoan. This article originally appeared on Fort Collins Coloradoan: Wellington's Nate Blehm is Blue FCU's top spring sports boys athlete0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMYankees’ 6-Year Veteran Goes Missing From Red Sox Affiliate After DeadlineNEW YORK, NY - OCTOBER 15: Tommy Kahnle #41 of the New York Yankees looks on from the dugout during Game 2 of the ALCS presented by loanDepot between the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in New York, New York. (Photo by Mary DeCicco/MLB Photos via Getty Images)MLB Photos via Getty ImagesThe Boston Red Sox have spent much of the season searching for bullpen consistency, and that need became increasingly apparent as veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle continued to dominate at Triple-A Worcester.Kahnle was pitching well for the Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate this season and, after spending 11 seasons in the big leagues, the right-hander appeared to be positioning himself either for a major league opportunity in Boston or the chance to pursue one elsewhere.“Veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle, who has a 1.40 ERA in 18 games at Triple-A Worcester, can opt out of his minor league deal and become a free agent Monday (June 1),” Chris Cotillo reported for MassLive last week. “According to a source with knowledge of Kahnle’s thinking, the righty ‘100 percent’ plans to hit free agency if he is not added to Boston’s roster.”FORBES | By Peter ChawagaDodgers’ Kyle Tucker Makes Change For First Time Since Leaving Cubs As Concerns MountFormer New York Yankees Pitcher Skips Out On Boston Red Sox Affiliate GameAnd once that deadline passed, evidently without the Red Sox calling him up to the 40-man roster, it seems Kahnle has gone missing without an official update for the media.“Tommy Kahnle is not here in Worcester at Polar Park but is technically still on the roster,” the Telegram & Gazette’s Tommy Cassell reported.Adding further intrigue, Cassell noted that Kahnle’s name did appear on the lineup card for the WooSox game on Tuesday though it seems he did bid manager Iggy Suarez farewell after the team’s game against the New York Yankees affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders last week.“We’ll definitely miss him if he's not here,” Suarez told Cassell. “But yeah, other than that, that's all. That's all I know on his end.”FORBES | By Peter ChawagaNationals’ Boss Offers 4-Word Response On Trading Superstar ShortstopBoston Red Sox Missing Former New York Yankees Pitcher After Opt OutThe Red Sox might feel like they have no room on the big-league roster for Kahnle, though it’s possible the team will still make room for him.In the meantime, some Yankees fans might appreciate that Kahnle is giving their biggest rival’s affiliate a bit of trouble. Kahnle has worn the Yankees’ pinstripes across six seasons in two different stints. The veteran signed a minor league deal with Boston after spending the 2025 season with the Detroit Tigers. He was a member of the New York Yankees in 2024, when he posted a 2.11 ERA across 50 appearances and helped with the run to the World Series.Whether Kahnle's absence is the precursor to a roster move, a formal opt-out or another transaction remains unclear. For the Red Sox, the situation could soon force a decision on a veteran reliever who has done everything possible to earn another major league opportunity. For Kahnle, the next few days could determine whether his path back to the majors runs through Boston or another organization entirely, perhaps even back with the Yankees for a third time. This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

These are awesome. We get to spend time together, not always in the same football environment but take us out of that environment and do something different.”This is the 2nd year in a row that the team participated in a project at the center. Last year, they helped paint the interior of the community center’s building. “It means a lot to have them back in our neighborhood, in Hollygrove,” said Lowrey Crews, founder and CEO of The 18th Ward. “Every day after school, kids from Hollygrove come here and get snacks, homework help. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEx-NFL DE makes wild prediction for Myles Garrett's career in L.A.Myles Garrett is already a Hall of Famer, but former NFL defensive end Chris Long thinks he will have the opportunity to become an all-time great at his position now that he's with the Los Angeles Rams.Long, who is a former Rams star himself, recently said on his podcast that he thinks Garrett could play another eight seasons and break Bruce Smith's 23-year NFL sack record of 200. He also thinks Garrett will become the first player with 100 sacks for two different teams."I just looked at 125.5 sacks in his nine-year career. I think there's an interesting take here, and this is not a far-fetched scenario, but he plays another like eight years and accrues like 100 sacks—which for most people, that's laughable to project that onto a player," Long said. "But like, even into his 30s, I think this guy could average twelve and a half—12.5 sacks the rest of the way with the Rams. Especially if the Rams continue to play well and the Ty Simpson thing works out and all that stuff. "But like, let's say he plays another eight years. The reason I picked eight years is because Julius Peppers played like 17 years. I think you're going to look up at the end of this thing and say, 'Myles Garrett breaks Bruce Smith's record, and Myles Garrett has 100-plus sacks on two different teams.'"Chris reacts to Myles Garrett being traded to the Rams‼️ pic.twitter.com/nWyVqAkE6J— Green Light with Chris Long (@greenlight) June 1, 2026This would be a truly insane feat to accomplish in the modern NFL, but Garrett is built for it. He averages nearly 16 sacks per 17-game season and, if he stays healthy, could easily continue on that trajectory over the rest of his career. The issue becomes whether Garrett wants to play into his late-30s or not and if he can sustain his excellence. Long thinks he can, and noted Peppers' long NFL career. However, Peppers averaged just 10.2 sacks per 17-game season and only finished with more than 10 sacks four times from ages 30 to 38.Looking at the other greats, Smith played for 19 years and 12.2 sacks per 17-game season, including six double-digit sack seasons from age 30 to 40. Reggie White, who has the second-most career sacks in NFL history at 198, averaged 14.5 per 17 games and played for 15 years.Garrett only needs 75 sacks to officially break the 200-yard mark, meaning he needs to play a little more than 4.7 seasons at his current pace to break that record. If he stays healthy and productive, Long's prediction is certainly obtainable. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Ex-NFL DE makes wild prediction for Myles Garrett's career in L.A.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCleanup Spot Awaits Kerry Carpenter in Detroit ReturnKerry Carpenter is back, and the Detroit Tigers immediately put him where they need him most. Detroit activated Carpenter from the 10-day injured list on May 31, inserted him as the designated hitter batting fourth against the White Sox, and optioned Gage Workman to Triple-A Toledo in the corresponding move, as shown in the club’s May 31 roster update and a matching game-day report.Detroit did not ease Carpenter back in. Batting him fourth on day one puts a left-handed power bat right back into the middle of a Detroit Tigers lineup that went 4-15 without him and posted a .602 OPS during a 6-21 May, according to the same May 31 update.Detroit put him right back in a run-producing roleA.J. Hinch said Carpenter completed two rehab games and felt healthy before returning, per the pregame update. The Detroit Tigers answered that by dropping him straight into the cleanup spot instead of limiting his workload at the bottom of the order. That deployment says plenty about how Detroit views Carpenter’s bat, especially against right-handed pitching. He was one of the few proven power threats on the roster before the injury, and the Detroit Tigers lineup looked thin without him.The injury that put him outCarpenter went on the 10-day injured list May 10 with a left shoulder sprain after crashing into the right-field wall at Kauffman Stadium on May 9, according to the injury report from that move. Initial testing showed no structural damage, but there was enough soreness and inflammation to shut him down.At the time of the injury, Carpenter was hitting .216 with six home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .750 OPS through 29 games, per the May 10 roster update. Detroit still viewed him as an impact bat against right-handed pitching. What changes nowCarpenter’s activation does not erase the Detroit Tigers’ broader offensive issues by itself. It does give Hinch a direct middle-order option again and opens a clearer path for the Tigers to use the designated hitter spot as a way to keep Carpenter’s bat in the lineup while managing that shoulder. The next thing to watch is how often Carpenter stays at DH versus returning to the outfield. Detroit already showed its first choice on Saturday, and the cleanup spot looks like his as long as he is healthy enough to hold it for the Detroit Tigers.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMelbourne Stars, Renegades set to merge into one BBL franchise in major shake-upMelbourne's two Big Bash League franchises, the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades, are reportedly set to merge into one team as part of a major change to the competition's structure.According to Sen Cricket, Cricket Victoria staff were informed on Tuesday about plans to combine the two Melbourne-based teams into a single Victorian franchise. The new side is not expected to carry the name Victoria because of Big Bash League regulations set by Cricket Australia. According to the report, around 10 contracted players from each of the current franchises are expected to form the base of the new Melbourne team. While staff were briefed about the plans, players had reportedly not been informed by Tuesday evening (AEST). SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhich Cincinnati baseball teams move to OHSAA regional finals?Ohio High School Athletic Association regional baseball action for Cincinnati teams kicked off with a bang as some teams didn't just win; they won big. Here's a recap of the action. The Enquirer will update this story with results from Moeller, Badin, Roger Bacon, Summit Country Day and Miami Valley Christian Academy. More photos are coming for the photo gallery as well.DIV regional baseball semifinal: Fenwick 16, Newark Licking Valley 6Fenwick had a quick first inning in its regional semifinal baseball game against Newark Licking Valley. Licking Valley ace Grayson Snow retired the side on about five pitches. After that, the team had a meeting in its dugout about being more patient at the plate. That turned out to be the right strategy as the Falcons overwhelmed the Panthers for a 16-6 win in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division IV regional semifinals June 2 at Day Air Ballpark. Fenwick (22-8) advances to the regional final 2 p.m. June 4, also at Day Air. LV was the 2025 Division III state champs.Fenwick is one win away from its first trip to the state tournament since 1982 and has its first appearance in the finals in more than 20 years. The program won state titles in 1974 and 1981.Fenwick had lost in the regional semis last year.“Our junior year we just decided, that’s not happening anymore,” senior Jackson Kauffman said. “Last year we lost in the regional semis so it was kind of personal for us. We were talking before the game just to remember that hurt that we had. And that was a really good Indian Hill team, and we're not going to let that stop us again. So we just got to come into every game and play hard as we can.”The Falcons trailed 3-0 when they stepped to the plate in the bottom of the second. Kauffman led off with a double. Jude McCullough hit a single. Boyd Westerfield drove in Kauffman with a groundout. After the next two batters drew walks, Conner Enderle drove in a run with a single, and another scoring on an error on the play to tie the game at 3.“As soon as we tied that game up in a second, two-out hit, it just felt like everything, all the momentum just came to us,” Enderle said.In the bottom of the third, Isaac Barker and Kauffman drew walks to start the innings. Snow retired the next two batters, but senior Ty Miller reached on an error by the shortstop that would have ended the inning, but instead scored a run.Snow, whose ERA was less than 1.00 this season, was replaced on the mound. Enderle walked with the bases loaded to give Fenwick a 5-3 lead.Carter Shouse gave Fenwick a big cushion with a two-run single, to make it 7-3. After an error scored another run, Kauffman delivered a triple to the wall in left field, scoring three to make it 11-3. In all, Fenwick only had two hits in the frame but made them count.Shouse hit a two-run single in the fourth. In the fifth, McCullough hit a two-run double to make it 15-6. A run scored on a wild pitch to end the game on the mercy rule and the players were thrilled with their effort. “My first and second bats were pathetic,” Shouse said. “I had to change my approach a little bit, being a little bit more smooth than the plate, and that really helped for me personally. And the momentum just kept building.”Kauffman had two hits and two walks. Shouse had three hits and four RBIs. Barker had a hit and two walks. Nick Bachmann had two hits, as did Enderle, who drove in two. The batters six through nine in the order got on base 10 times in 12 appearances. They were helped by Licking Valley making a gamble with its pitching that Fenwick head coach Doc Wieland didn’t. Snow threw 81 pitches in LV’s district final May 29, and the Panthers' coaches started him on three days rest.Shouse said the team could tell Snow wasn’t in top form, and he had a sleeve on his left throwing arm.“After his first five-pitch inning, the guys kind of made a decision not to be too anxious on him,” Wieland said. “So we started being patient with him. They made a decision to change their approach, and not necessarily swing early in the count. Fortunately for us, he threw a lot of balls, and we were able to be disciplined, work the count and get his pitch count up.”Shouse, Fenwick’s dominant sophomore ace as well as its leadoff hitter and center fielder, threw 104 pitches in the Falcons’ district final win over Urbana May 29. He was eligible to pitch but Wieland went with his next two in the rotation, junior Anthony Snyder and senior Caleb McMonigle. They had their issues but settled down and held the big lead.“With ‘CMac’ coming in, all the faith in the world in that kid,” Enderle said. “He just led us the rest of the way on the mound, dominant, and then the bats came alive.”Shouse said he could have pitched late in the game if it was close, but Wieland was glad they didn’t need to, saving him for the regional final.“He could have by rule,” Wieland said. “But in terms of me as a coach, never going to happen. He’s got a bright future. He's only a sophomore. There was no talk of bringing him back to this game. We felt confident enough to win with our two and three out there, have Shouse safe for Thursday.”This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Cincinnati baseball teams advancing to OHSAA regional finals June 20 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat are the NHL overtime rules for the playoffs in 2026?Editor's note: This post was originally published in 2025 and has since been updated for 2026.NHL overtime is quite dramatic these days, with 3-on-3 hockey for five minutes giving way to a shootout if games are still tied. But in the NHL playoffs? The drama is tenfold ... and the rules are completely different. And if you're here, you might be wondering: What are those rules for the 2026 postseason?Fear not. We have the answer. The differences here: If the teams are tied after regulation, that leads to a 5-on-5 overtime period, with 20 minutes to decide the winner. First goal wins, so it's "sudden death."And if there's no winner decided in that overtime? There's another 20-minute overtime period waiting and so on until a team scores and wins the game. Is it exhausting? Sure. But it's the most fun.Now you know! This article originally appeared on For The Win: What are the NHL overtime rules for 2026 Stanley Cup Final?0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSean McVay says he spoke with Aaron Donald about bringing Myles Garrett to RamsThe Los Angeles Rams did not confirm on Tuesday that Aaron Donald is considering a comeback to the NFL.They also didn’t deny it. And head coach Sean McVay, understandably, sounds excited about the prospect. McVay joined general manager Les Snead on Tuesday to introduce Garrett as a Ram, a day after the seismic trade that delivered Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. Amid reports that the deal has Donald considering a comeback, McVay was asked about the prospect. Here’s what he had to say:“Aaron's a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles, talked to him about the opportunity to be able to bring him on board,” McVay said. “If Aaron decides he wants to dust them off at the age of 35, I bet you he could still do it at a pretty high clip."A pass-rush dream for RamsDonald is widely viewed as the greatest defender of his generation. An eight-time first-team All-Pro in his 10 NFL seasons, he was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and helped lead the Rams to a Super Bowl title.Garrett is widely viewed as the greatest active defender in the NFL. He’s fresh off of securing the league’s single-season sack record and his arrival to the Rams has cemented their status as the favorites to win the Super Bowl next season. It’s a dream pairing that would generate nightmares for opposing quarterbacks and send the Rams into further ecstasy on top of their giddiness over securing Garrett. For now, Garrett alone will do just fine.“We’re jacked here,” Snead said Tuesday before being asked a question. It was all smiles on Tuesday as Les Snead left, and Sean McVay, right, introduced Myles Garrett.AP Photo/Kyusung GongGarrett ‘very excited to be here’Indeed, the Rams are jacked. It was all smiles on the podium as Snead, McVay and Garrett spoke about what the trade means. “Very excited to be here,” said Garrett, who waived his no-trade clause to green-light the deal. “It’s an honor and a blessing to be in this building.”Garrett restructured his contract with the Browns in March in a move that signaled that a trade could be possible. He said Tuesday that he first heard about trade talks with Los Angeles last week. “Found out about a week ago that this was even a possibility, “ Garrett said. It was surprise, it was a bit of excitement. … God willing, it happened.”As for McVay? Acquiring Garrett is a multi-pronged win.“He is a pain in the ass to game-plan against, and I’m glad we don’t have to do that anymore,” McVay said.So would Donald really come back?Garrett’s offseason arrival alongside that of All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie projects to bolster the Rams’ pass defense as one of the NFL’s most formidable. The goal is clear: a second Super Bowl championship of the Matthew Stafford era. Adding Donald, even in a diminished capacity at 35 following two seasons away, would further boost those hopes and expectations. That’s a decision that Donald would presumably make with his family. Donald has yet to chime in. His wife, Erica appeared to do so on social media Tuesday.Coming out of a comfortable bolstered by the security of $157 million in career earnings to play a game that puts one’s health is risk is not a decision to be taken lightly, especially for for a family man. But the prospect of teaming up with Garrett to terrorizing opposing quarterbacks with a shot at a second ring appears to at least have Donald thinking about it.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrom World Cup snub to World Cup weapon: Ricardo Pepi's playmaking gives the U.S. another option up frontFirst and foremost, Ricardo Pepi is a member of the U.S. World Cup team because he knows how to score goals — 45 of them, despite irregular starting assignments, over three years across all competitions for Dutch bully PSV Eindhoven.“Pepi is a killer,” coach Mauricio Pochettino said last week. And for the first half of the U.S. friendly against Senegal on Sunday, the 23-year-old Texan was a menacing figure at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium. He carried himself with purpose and poise, hellbent on proving his value on a squad employing two other potent strikers. But instead of contributing as a scorer, he was the facilitator.First came the clever, no-look touch between two defenders that unlocked the defense and sent Christian Pulisic rushing into the open to set up Sergiño Dest’s icebreaker. Then came the immaculately weighted pass into Pulisic’s pathway for the second goal in the 3-2 victory. The halftime whistle marked the end of the workday for not just Pepi but nine other starters in a take-few-risks tuneup before the World Cup opener next week.By snapping out of his five-month scoring rut and adding an assist, Pulisic was the toast of the town. But Pepi’s diversified performance boosted his stock and put him in prime position to play considerable minutes this summer.USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi proved difficult for Senegal to contain Sunday, helping create two goals in the 3-2 win.Steve Limentani/ISI Photos via Getty ImagesAlthough Monaco’s Folarin Balogun almost certainly remains the top-choice striker — he scored the winning goal Sunday — coach Mauricio Pochettino will not pause to summon Pepi for a second-half refresh or a starting alternative over the course of the tournament.Coventry City’s Haji Wright, who didn’t play against Senegal, is the other option in a strike force that combined for 56 goals this past season.Pepi has “the possibility to score,” Pochettino said, “and to create chances some time from nowhere.”Pepi’s inclusion on the 26-man roster comes 3½ years after the bitter disappointment of being left off the 2022 squad. When then-coach Gregg Berhalter called to tell the teenager he didn’t make it, Pepi hung up on him.Berhalter chose Wright, Jesús Ferreira and Josh Sargent, instead.“Being left off was obviously not nice, but I feel like using that in a good way [helped him] be in this World Cup,” Pepi said last week. “I felt like it helped me grow, it matured me a little bit. It was part of the process, and I'm very happy and excited to be here now.”For the past 18 months, there were questions as to whether he would be here — not because of his skill set but because of injuries. A knee ailment sidelined him the second half of PSV Eindhoven’s 2024-25 season, muscle setbacks limited his role last fall and, just as he was hitting his scoring stride early this year, he fractured a forearm and missed six weeks.Invited to March camp, the last before World Cup roster decisions, Pepi played 20 minutes in one friendly and none in the other.“We didn’t have too much time to work with him,” Pochettino said. “And then when he was with us, he wasn’t his best, but now we’re seeing a different player.”Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentThis past season, as PSV won its third consecutive Eredivisie trophy, Pepi led the club — and finished tied for third in the league – with 16 goals. He did it despite missing eight of 34 matches and starting just 16. He added three goals in five Champions League matches (one start).“I was just really focused on trying to play as much as possible, staying healthy,” he said. “It was a difficult season with a lot of injuries, but everything can change in one second. It can be bad, it can be good as well. Just really focused on helping my team out and preparing for the World Cup, if I got the opportunity.”Like most strikers, goals come in bunches or don’t come at all. In the winter, he scored in six of seven matches, but while in the act of scoring in that seventh match, he broke his fall — and broke his left forearm. (Even today, he still wears a protective sleeve.)Cleared to return, Pepi gradually returned to form. And with the World Cup approaching, he scored in each of his last five appearances (all starts) and totaled six goals.Clubs in the biggest European leagues have taken notice. This spring, he was on the cusp of a summer move to Fulham in the Premier League when the reported $43 million transfer went off track. A strong World Cup could rekindle interest from clubs seeking a young scorer.Pepi is aiming to return to a big-five circuit after his first stint went bust. In 2022, 16 appearances for the Bundesliga’s Augsburg yielded no goals.“I was obviously a youngin’ and, just being 18 years old, going to Europe [from FC Dallas] is obviously a big change,” he said.He has found happiness and success in the Netherlands, first on loan at Groningen in 2022-23. Six goals and an assist in an eight-game swing, though, weren’t enough to get onto Berhalter’s World Cup squad.“He probably deserved to be on the last roster,” Pulisic said. “There's always tough decisions and we had other good players on the squad. He missed out last time, but you can see he's continued to work really hard. He continues to keep a high level, scores goals, does all the things well, and that's why his time is now. He absolutely deserves to be here.”Pepi did not know for sure he had made it this time until May 22, when Pochettino informed the players via a prerecorded video shared in a WhatsApp group chat.“It was definitely way different, of course” than in 2022, he said. When Pochettino’s message arrived, Pepi was in the car with his father, Daniel, his youth coach.“I showed it to him and he immediately started crying a little bit,” he said. This time, there was no reason for him to hang up prematurely. He was going to the World Cup.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed Sox Proposed Blockbuster Would Land Nationals' Surging All-StarWashington Nationals hatThe Boston Red Sox's infield has been impossibly bad on offense this year, particularly when you subtract first baseman Willson Contreras.Marcelo Mayer, Caleb Durbin, and the injured Trevor Story all got off to starts ranging from just slow to absolutely brutal. If Boston is going to be in any sort of buying mood at the trade deadline, the infield figures to be an easy target to upgrade the offense. While we're still two months out from the trade deadline, one baseball writer wasn't wasting time this week in identifying a potential target for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. In a Tuesday article from Bleacher Report, writer Kerry Miller predicted that the Red Sox would add an infielder before the Aug. 3 deadline. Of all the names he pitched as potential fits, the most attractive at the moment was probably Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, who is off to a stellar start for a surprisingly hot team. "The big fish is Washington's CJ Abrams, except the Nationals have won 20 of their last 33 and maybe won't be deadline sellers for the first time since 2020? With that pitching staff, though, it still feels like fools' gold," Miller wrote. "At any rate, none of the forecasting models even have Washington at 20 percent odds of making the postseason. And if Abrams is available, Boston may well be his next home."Do you have a take to get off your chest? Do you want to engage with a growing Red Sox community? Comment on our content alongside staff and fans alike!Abrams, 25, sported a .926 OPS and 12 home runs entering play on Tuesday. He's a subpar defender at his position and might one day be shifted to second base, but if his bat is taking a jump (his OPS as an All-Star in 2024 ended up at only .747), he'll be a name every team wants. The Nationals' front office is led by former Red Sox assistant general manager Paul Toboni, so if there's any farm system Washington might want to pilfer in a haul for Abrams, Boston might be at the top of the list. But again, that depends on Washington's willingness to sell at all, and Abrams doesn't necessarily have to go anywhere with 2 1/2 more years until free agency. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKobbie Mainoo reveals what he’s most grateful to Michael Carrick forKobbie Mainoo reveals what he’s most grateful to Michael Carrick for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has pinpointed the one thing he owes Michael Carrick the most gratitude for.TurnaroundHaving been cast aside and stuck at the bottom of the pecking order under Ruben Amorim, Mainoo appeared destined to leave United at one stage of the 2025/26 season. He requested to leave the club on loan towards the end of last summer’s window, but the club blocked an exit. He was set to leave in January in search of regular playing time, but Amorim’s dismissal and Carrick’s arrival as his replacement sparked a change in his fortunes.Mainoo instantly went from a bit-part role to one of the most important players in the team. Of the 17 games that Carrick took charge of, the Carrington academy graduate only missed one.He played a key role in United’s strong end to the campaign, which saw the club secure Champions League football after a two-year absence.Mainoo’s performances earned him a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup. He spoke to talkSPORT and gave Carrick the credit for his return to the England ranks.Mainoo’s remarksHe told talkSPORT, “We were very happy with it, obviously, we were behind the manager from the start.”“So many great performances under him, and I love the way he coaches and manages me personally in the team as well. I think everyone in the squad can agree with that, so when he officially got the job, we were all so happy.”Asked if Carrick is partly to thank for his World Cup call-up, Mainoo answered, “Definitely, and I told him that I was very grateful.”“Because if he hadn’t put me on the pitch, then I wouldn’t have been here so, I’m always grateful to him for that.”This World Cup marks Mainoo’s first appearance on football’s biggest international stage. He played a prominent role for England at the Euros, starting in the final loss to Spain. The 21-year-old will hope to feature heavily once more.Featured image by Shaun Botterill/Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEDGE Roy Price picks Minnesota: ‘I love the challenge of being great at multiple things’Minnesota just picked up a rising defender out of the Midwest. Newark (Ohio) High EDGE Roy Price took an official visit to Minnesota over the weekend. Now also he’s the latest member of the Golden Gophers’ class. He also told me for Rivals what made Minnesota the place for him.“They are recruiting me for the rush end position,” Price said. “That position needs to be able to drop, cover, set the edge and get after the QB. They believe I can do all those things at a high level. I love the challenge of having to be great at multiple things. I believe that with the talent God has blessed me with I’d be a great fit for the position.”[ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ]The Columbus UA MVP also continued on why Minnesota fits him.“Coach Fleck is very similar to my high school Coach Bill Franks. “How you do anything is how you do everything .” I loved his intensity and attention to detail. Also living and playing for something bigger than yourself is something I believe in. I put God first always so having that as part of the belief system was huge for me.Price also feels like Coach Stanard and Robbins aree great men for him to learn from. “I spent a lot of time with Coach Stanard,” Price said. “I got to know about him, his family and his experience as a coach. He has a lot of time in coaching which I’ll be able to learn from.”Scouting take on Price from UA ColumbusPrice was the surprise MVP of his position group. He earned it though, winning his way to the final five with quickness and agility then having some good battles with Kalis during the final five. He’s light — listed at 205 pounds — but weight can be added. He could be a stand-up outside backer/edge as well.-Allen Trieu0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGirls dual wrestling moves into 'emerging status' with MSHSLJun. 2—BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. — The path to a girls wrestling dual state tournament — and all-girls regular-season dual meets — became clearer on Tuesday.Girls dual wrestling was approved into Emerging Status at a Minnesota State High School League Board meeting on Tuesday morning.According to the MSHSL, "Emerging Status" is a two-to-five year transition period where the sport is studied for stability, logistics and implementation. It is the final step before a sport is approved as a fully sanctioned MSHSL activity. The status change won't trigger any changes for the probationary period, meaning a girls dual state tournament is at least two years away.MSHSL rules allow girls wrestlers to compete with the boys team from their school in dual meets. Some high school programs around Minnesota have scheduled all-girls dual meets or tournaments in the regular season in recent years. Teams can schedule up to eight of those events that do not count toward a program's limit of 16 boys duals. The MSHSL does sanction girls wrestling individual section and state tournaments. An extra half-day of action was added to the state tournament this year — it began on a Wednesday afternoon, as opposed to a Thursday morning — which coincided with the expansion of the girls state tournament to 16-wrestler brackets, up from eight wrestlers per bracket in previous years. Each of the eight sections also hosted its own section tournament for girls this year. The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association has hosted a successful girls team state tournament at St. Michael-Albertville High School for the last two years. Chatfield impressed with a second-place finish last year.If or when girls wrestling moves from Emerging Status to fully sanctioned, girls teams will be able to have a full 16-event schedule, just as the boys do, along with their own state individual and dual tournaments. It will also be classified on its own; it is currently classified under boys wrestling.Girls flag football was also seeking Emerging Status, for the 2026-27 school year, at Tuesday's MSHSL board meeting. The board of directors, however, approved tabling the proposal to provide schools more time to clearly define the sport's rules and a system of scheduling games.Currently, flag football is organized and jointly operated by the Minnesota Vikings and the Girls Football Advisory Committee. The MSHSL and schools around the state will continue discussions with the Vikings to clearly establish the most effective model for the sport, should it be approved for Emerging Status. The proposal will be listed as an Action Item at the MSHSL board meeting in October. That could allow the sport to have Emerging Status prior to its next scheduled season, in the spring of 2027.The Vikings have invested more than $600,000 to help the sport get off the ground and grow around the state. There were 104 registered high school flag football teams in Minnesota in the 2026 season, more than double the number that played in 2025 (51).The MSHSL board also approved an Esports partnership with Fenworks, a Grand Forks, N.D.-based technology company that provides after-school curriculum and competitive leagues. The parternership will be similar to the MSHSL's role with robotics and with clay target shooting. The league partners with those sports to hold postseason championships, and will do the same with Esports, beginning in the 2027-28 school year.Esports is projected to have a 10-week regular season in the winter, followed by a regional playoff and then an in-person state championship. More than 100 schools currently participate in Esports.—The board approved a proposal for girls hockey teams in the state to be divided evenly among Class 1A and Class 2A, beginning in the 2027-28 season. In the 2025-26 school year, there were 57 teams in Class 2A and 50 in Class 1A.—The board approved MSHSL membership for Paladin Career and Technical High School in Coon Rapids, and Career Pathways, a charter school in St. Paul.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRams’ Myles Garrett trade works out very well for NFL’s 2026 primetime scheduleCredit: Ken Blaze-Imagn ImagesThe NFL expected the Los Angeles Rams to be a team that America would be interested in watching this season. And that was before they traded for arguably the best defensive player in the game.Coming off a 12-5 season that ended one game short of a Super Bowl appearance, the Rams are among a handful of teams presumed to be in the hunt for Super Bowl LXI (in Los Angeles, btw). That’s perhaps why the NFL gave the Rams seven primetime games this season, tying them with the 2023 Buffalo Bills and 2025 Kansas City Chiefs for the most in a single season.Week 1 vs 49ers, Netflix Australia gameWeek 2 vs Giants, Monday Night FootballWeek 3 at Broncos, Sunday Night FootballWeek 5 vs Bills, Monday Night FootballWeek 12 vs Packers, Netflix Thanksgiving Eve gameWeek 13 vs Chiefs, Thursday Night FootballWeek 16 at Seahawks, Fox Christmas night gamePer league rules, Los Angeles could also be flexed into one more primetime slot, with eight as the maximum allowed for one team. The likelihood of that happening increased this week when the Rams traded for the Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett. Garrett, a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, instantly upgrades what was considered LA’s biggest liability and cements their status as a Super Bowl contender. He also adds another notable name to a roster already full of them, making the Rams all the more enticing to NFL audiences.PFT’s Mike Florio notes that the Rams are only scheduled to play at 1:00 p.m. ET on a Sunday once this season. Meanwhile, Garrett’s former team, the Browns, has only one primetime game this season, with every other game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.In other words, Myles Garrett, get ready for your close-up.The post Rams’ Myles Garrett trade works out very well for NFL’s 2026 primetime schedule appeared first on Awful Announcing.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEagles made play for Myles Garrett, but Browns wanted Jalen CarterOn Monday morning, before the Browns traded defensive end Myles Garrett to the Rams, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer flagged the Rams, Cowboys, and Eagles as potential destinations.Multiple reports have indicated that the Browns wanted defensive tackle Jalen Carter from the Eagles, but that the Eagles weren't interested in that.Via Jeff Kerr of SI.com, the Eagles offered Nolan Smith or Jalyx Hunt instead. The Eagles' insistence on keeping Carter is a bit confusing, given that the forward-looking Eagles have yet to sign Carter to a second contract. In March, after the Eagles signed defensive tackle Jordan Davis to a new deal, it was leaked that they have gotten calls about Carter, which often is part of a strategy aimed at getting more. The challenge for the Eagles as to Carter is his fifth-year option salary of $27.1 million in 2027. Given that number, he may be looking for a market-level deal well in excess of $30 million in new-money average. For 2026, Carter is due to make only $3.723 million in the fourth year of his first-round rookie deal. He shouldn't set foot on a practice field until he gets his second deal. The team's refusal to include him in a trade package for Garrett should only strengthen Carter's resolve in that regard.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKotsay looking at his options for the A's rotation after Severino injuryCHICAGO (AP) — Athletics manager Mark Kotsay is looking at his options for his rotation after Luis Severino was sidelined by a strained right shoulder. The A's brought up right-handers Kade Morris and Mason Barnett from Triple-A Las Vegas before Tuesday's game at the Chicago Cubs. Right-hander Michael Kelly and left-hander Jacob Lopez were sent down, and right-hander Brooks Kriske was transferred to the 60-day injured list.Morris, one of the team's top pitching prospects, is looking for his major league debut. Barnett pitched two scoreless innings for the A's on April 19 against the Chicago White Sox.“We’ve worn the bullpen down a little bit,” Kotsay said. “But they’ll provide some length right now and we’ll make a decision, you know, which one of them gets an opportunity going forward to fulfill one of the vacancies in our rotation right now.”Severino, 32, was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday, a day after he pitched one inning in an 8-2 loss to the New York Yankees. Kotsay said Severino will be out for “a minimum four to six weeks at least and if not more.”The A's also are playing without right-hander Aaron Civale, who went on the 15-day IL last week because of shoulder tendinitis. Gage Jump was brought up from Las Vegas, and the left-hander was slated to make his second big league start in the opener of a three-game series against the Cubs.Lopez started Sunday's 13-8 loss to the Yankees, surrendering seven runs in two-plus innings. The left-hander is 4-3 with a 6.75 ERA in 10 starts and two relief appearances for the A's this year.Following their series against the Cubs, the A's begin a weekend set at Houston on Friday night. Their next off day is on June 11.Morris, a third-round pick in the 2023 amateur draft out of the University of Nevada, was acquired in a July 2024 trade with the New York Mets for Paul Blackburn. Morris went 5-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 starts for Las Vegas before his promotion.“I think he’s throwing the ball well,” Kotsay said. “He’s a pitcher that pitches with a lot of emotion. I’m sure when he steps on that mound for the first time, there’s going to be a lot of energy, a lot of excitement. ... The Triple-A season has gone pretty well for him. He has been performing at a pretty good clip.”While the A's are dealing with some injuries in their rotation, All-Star shortstop Jacob Wilson is making his way back from a left shoulder injury. He is with the team in Chicago and could begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.“Obviously, Jacob feels good about where he’s at right now,” Kotsay said. “You know, this will be a couple days of pretty good work here, pregame.”___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/mlb0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMA Look Ahead at Purdue Basketball: Caden PierceNEWARK, NJ - DECEMBER 21: Caden Pierce #3 of the Princeton Tigers during the first half of the Never Forget Tribute Classic game against the Princeton Tigers on December 21, 2024 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. (Photo by Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images When Purdue head coach Matt Painter landed transfer forward Caden Pierce, the Boilermakers added more than just another experienced player. Pierce arrives in West Lafayette as a former Ivy League Player of the Year, bringing a unique combination of toughness, versatility, and basketball IQ that has become a trademark of successful Purdue teams. After starring at Princeton and earning national attention as one of the most sought-after transfers in the country, Pierce has an opportunity to make an immediate impact in black and gold. One of Pierce’s greatest strengths is his ability to affect the game in a variety of ways. During his Ivy League Player of the Year campaign at Princeton, he averaged 16.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting over 54% from the field. Those numbers demonstrate a player who can score efficiently, create opportunities for teammates, and dominate the glass. Purdue has traditionally thrived with forwards who embrace physical play and do the little things necessary to win, and Pierce fits that mold perfectly. The Boilermakers will also benefit from Pierce’s experience and leadership. He started 89 of 90 games during his Princeton career and played a key role in the Tigers’ success on the national stage. His maturity should help ease Purdue’s transition following the departure of several veteran contributors. With younger players expected to take on larger roles in 2026–27, Pierce’s presence could provide stability both on and off the court. The most important aspect of Pierce’s addition is how well his game aligns with Purdue’s culture. Throughout the recruiting process, he repeatedly praised Purdue’s consistency, player development, and family atmosphere. Those qualities helped Purdue beat out national powers such as Duke, Gonzaga, Louisville, and UConn for his commitment. Pierce has stated that Purdue felt like home, and his willingness to choose fit over flash suggests he understands exactly what is expected within Painter’s system. While there will naturally be questions about how quickly Pierce adjusts after taking a redshirt year to recover from injury and complete his degree, the potential upside is undeniable. His rebounding, versatility, and experience address several needs for the Boilermakers entering the 2026–27 season. If he returns to the form that made him one of the best players in the Ivy League, Purdue may have found a player capable of helping the program remain among the Big Ten’s elite while leading the next generation of Boilermakers into a new era.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 52 Views 0 voorbeeld
