SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMilan Momcilovic commitment jumps Kentucky up transfer portal rankingsThe 2026 offseason was a mixed bag for the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and coach Mark Pope. They failed to land any of the top 100 players in the recruiting targets, including a high profile whiff on Tyran Stokes. They also missed out on multiple highly rated players early on the transfer portal. However, on Monday night, Pope finally landed an elite player, getting a commitment from forward Milan Momcilovic, rated by some as the best available player in the portal. He capped off a very good class of transfers for Pope, and in the latest transfer portal class rankings by 247Sports, Kentucky jumped all the way to No. 2, behind only Louisville.Momcilovic is the big name, but Kentucky landed some other very good players. Zoom Diallo was a top 30 transfer, and Alex Wilkins was also in the top 50. Franck Kepnang, Justin McBride, and Jerone Morton are also solid additions with clear roles on next year's squad. Will the new additions, added to returning players like Malachi Moreno and Kam Williams, equate to wins? Fans will have to wait and see, but Pope has assembled a better shooting team than last year, and hopes to have a healthier team. Momcilovic was a major win for a beleaguered Pope, and may have saved the Kentucky offseason. This article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Kentucky basketball now has 2nd best transfer portal class0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCould Dodgers trade for Tarik Skubal? Dave Roberts jokes MLB would 'go ballistic'Don't rule out the Los Angeles Dodgers adding more firepower at next month's trade deadline. Despite their gaudy payroll, NL West leaders are down two major pieces of the rotation with Blake Snell (loose bodies in left elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (lower back spasms) both on the IL for the foreseeable future. One name that the Dodgers have been attached to on the rumor mill for some time now is Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, and as manager Dave Roberts joked to USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale, Los Angeles may be the only team with a strong enough farm system to pull off a hypothetical deal for the back-to-back Cy Young winner. With CBA negotiations currently ongoing and the Dodgers having already been painted as the poster boys for why MLB needs a salary cap, it's a move that would cause an uproar unlike any we've seen – and manager Dave Roberts knows it."They would go ballistic," Roberts told USA TODAY, laughing. "But we would have the prospect capital to do that. We are one of the teams that could do that with the Tigers."Armed with the No. 2-ranked farm system in the league and five top-100 prospects according to MLB Pipeline, there's no shortage of options the Dodgers could use to entice Detroit to part ways with Skubal, if the TIgers were to deal him.The Dodgers' top prospects include Josue De Paula, who's hitting .320 with a .958 OPS and eight home runs in 49 games with Double-A Tulsa, Zyhir Hope (.296 with 11 homers and .871 OPS), Eduardo Quintero (their 2025 Minor League Player of the Year) or Mike Sirota, who's hitting .349 with a 1.035 OPS in 12 games since being called up to Double-A.Skubal's currently on the IL with loose bodies in his throwing elbow, an injury the Dodgers are all too familiar with right now with both Snell and closer Edwin Díaz. Skubal, however, is closest to a return out of all three. According to MLB.com's Jason Beck, he threw 64 pitches in a four-inning simulated game at Tropicana Field on Monday and could go on a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on possibility of Tarik Skubal trade0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGeorge Santos allegedly bet on himself. He may be going to prison again for it.Four months after his prison sentence was commuted by Donald Trump, George Santos went on social media to say that he’d be at the State of the Union (SOTU) address in February to cheer the president on. “I’m going to be there for the State of Union in the gallery, guys,” Santos said in a video posted to X the day before the speech. Related George Santos wants a piece of Trump’s new MAGA slush fund He never showed up. “Watching SOTU from an airport tv was not part of the plan! FML,” Santos posted during the president’s remarks, using an abbreviation that stands for “f**k my life.” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today According to sources familiar with his actions, however, not showing up was always the plan. Santos was playing the prediction markets, three people with direct knowledge of the matter told NPR. Santos is now under investigation by the Justice Department as a result. Weeks ahead of the SOTU speech, bettors on the prediction market Kalshi were laying odds on who would attend the Joint Session of Congress. That list included Santos, who sent odds soaring when he made his first post to X the day before the speech. The same odds crashed when he posted from the airport. In between, according to sources, Santos bet on himself not showing up, and reaped tens of thousands of dollars for the accurate “prediction.” Kalshi detected Santos’ trades, froze his account, and referred the case to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice, NPR reports. Both agencies opened investigations into the disgraced former congressman. Neither the DOJ nor the Commodity Futures Trading Commission returned requests for comment. But Santos did. “Well, that’s news to me,” he told NPR when asked about an insider trading investigation. “I’m not saying yes, I’m not saying no,” Santos replied when asked if he had a Kalshi account. He then said that he would call the co-founder of Kalshi, “fellow Brazilian” Luana Lopes Lara, whom he claimed to know personally, to get to the bottom of a possible probe. A source familiar with the Kalshi investigation said Santos doesn’t know Lara. For anyone familiar with Santos’ story, that deception and the accusations leading up to it come as no surprise. The former New York rep, 37, was charged with fraud in 2023, after The New York Times and other outlets reported that he lied extensively about his biography. He claimed to be Jewish. He is not. He said his grandparents died in the Holocaust. They did not. Santos had a fake animal charity. Roommates accused him of stealing rent. But it was lying on official campaign forms and stealing from donors, among other schemes, that earned prosecutors’ attention. He was eventually expelled from the House less than a year after taking office — only third House member in history to earn that punishment — and he was sentenced to seven years in prison for his campaign crimes. President Trump commuted Santos’ prison sentence last October, after Santos had served less than three months behind bars. Before Trump’s “weaponization” slush fund was withdrawn by the Justice Department this week, Santos was looking for a piece of the action. If under investigation, Santos is the third high-profile target of a prediction market probe in recent weeks. In April, federal prosecutors charged a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier with reaping $400,000 off the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Last week, the DOJ charged a Google employee for making more than $1 million betting on search trends based on confidential information from the tech giant. Both traders made their bets on Polymarket. President Trump’s son, Eric Trump, was recently appointed a “special advisor” at Kalshi. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat's going right for the Cleveland Guardians? And can they challenge the Yankees atop the American League? The Guardians beat the Yankees 9-4 on Tuesday in New York in these teams’ first meeting of the season. The Guardians, at 35-27, lead the AL Central, while the Yankees (36-24) are second in the AL East. They’re looking like two of the strongest teams in the American League, and their series this week in the Bronx, followed by another next week in Cleveland, could tell us a lot about how these squads compare. On the latest episode of “Baseball Bar-B-Cast,” Jordan Shusterman and guest host Zack Meisel of The Athletic discussed what’s going well for the team in Cleveland.“This is a team that has three rookies thriving,” Meisel said, referring to Parker Messick, Travis Bazzana and Chase DeLauter. “There’s a little bit of the Guardians that people are accustomed to, where they don’t hit for a ton of power and it’s just slapping the ball all over the place and running and pitching well … but I think there’s a little bit more legitimacy to this team because of the rookies.“Messick is supposed to be a rookie who’s terrified of the big moment, like a lot of young players would be, and yet he is just fearless,” Meisel continued. “And it’s the same for Travis Bazzana, who has come up and looked like a polished veteran, drawing walks. … Another rookie, Chase DeLauter, debuted in a playoff elimination game last season. “It’s team that has young players who don’t look like they’re young or inexperienced or daunted by anything.”Case in point: Bazzana drove in three runs with a two-out, bases-clearing double in the eighth inning Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. The Guardians also knocked Yankees starter Cam Schlittler out after 4 1/3 innings and 4 earned runs, marking the young star’s worst outing of this season.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentShusterman noted that for years now, pitching and run-prevention have been the backbone of the Guardians, and while the team looks a little different this year, that’s still a strength.“People are so used to assuming that the pitching is elite, and there are some components of that still in place,” he said, highlighting Cade Smith’s emergence as the Guardians’ closer in Emmanuel Clase’s absence.“For him to seamlessly be able to transition to just be one of the best closers in baseball is not that surprising, because we watched him as a rookie, and yet, what a luxury. And that’s a credit to Smith and the Guardians. That’s an incredible thing to have.”The Guardians are one of only three teams in baseball, along with the Dodgers and Braves, that have not been swept this season. And after their win Tuesday, they won’t be swept by the Yankees this week, either.Zooming out, Shusterman remarked that anytime the Guardians meet the Yankees, which has happened a lot in the postseason in recent years, it’s a matchup of David vs. Goliath — and a gut check for the small-market, low-payroll Guardians.“Against teams like New York, the talent on the other side, the payroll, the star power, the overwhelming amount of physical ability … is stark,” he said.Noted Meisel: “This is not new to this decade. This franchise hasn’t won a World Series since 1948. And it feels like every time they get to the postseason, they’re facing the Yankees.”In his mind, that’s perhaps fitting.“If the Guardians are ever going to win a World Series — and again, it’s been 78 years — it feels like they need to get past the Yankees in the playoffs for it to feel correct.”So can the Guardians’ new crop of rookies help them finally eliminate the Yankees in October? Cleveland fans might get to find out in a few months.“These guys are so far from reaching their peaks,” Shusterman said of the young Guards, “so counting on them to lead them past the Yankees as rookies is absurd. “At the same time, those are the kinds of players that just make your team feel more threatening when it does get to October.”For more on the Guardians, Yankees and other MLB topics, listen to “Baseball Bar-B-Cast” wherever you get your podcasts.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLions News: SI predicting huge year for Detroit in 2026ATLANTA, GEORGIA - AUGUST 8: Head coach Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions smiles prior to an NFL preseason football game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 8, 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) | Getty Images We’re inching closer to the time for 2026 NFL season predictions, and Sports Illustrated’s Connor Orr is getting a jump on the rest of the NFL media landscape. On Tuesday, Orr published his 100 bold predictions for the 2026 NFL season, and several are related to the Detroit Lions. The first is a very simple one: a year after finishing last in the division, Orr is predicting the Lions to win the NFC North for the third time in four years. I liked the prediction, even if I question some of the rationale. “One of the most underrated aspects of a team’s schedule, in my opinion, is the runway with which to build momentum,” Orr wrote. “That momentum overpowers the basic fact that many of those wins were against opponents that the team should have beaten. Those wins create a false confidence those teams carry with them into more neutral matchups or matchups in which a team should be considered an underdog.”Orr takes that prediction a step further with #17 on his list: The Lions will lead the NFL in regular-season wins. “Despite finishing last in the NFC North and undergoing a midseason offensive coordinator change, the Lions had a plus-68 point differential. That was better than seven teams that made the playoffs,” Orr notes. Working off that prediction, Orr also believes Detroit will finish with more points than any other team, his #94 prediction. “Detroit had an abysmal schedule and a coordinator who needed to be replaced mid-stream, yet still scored just two fewer points per game than the Rams and totaled roughly 400 fewer yards. The indicators are there,” Orr wrote. You can read all of Orr’s predictions here.Shout out to commenter Hunt Baker, who did a complete position-by-position roster comparison between the Rams and Lions. I think it’s a pretty fair assessment: Nice read on new Lions receiver Greg Dortch over at the Detroit News. One great quote from Dortch: “The coaching staff has the most NFL players on a coaching staff that I’ve ever been a part of. You can just tell right away that they take care of their players, they know what the f— they’re talking about, and they’re serious.”On Wednesday, the Lions completed Day 5 of OTAs. Here’s a photo gallery from practice, including Aidan Hutchinson breaking things down at the end of the day. Are you a card collectors? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOverjoyed, Igor Thiago can't believe he's at the Copa: “It feels unreal”Overjoyed, Igor Thiago can't believe he's at the Copa: “It feels unreal”Being called up for the World Cup still doesn’t seem real to Igor Thiago. Despite his goal-scoring season for Brentford, the winning goal against Croatia, and the strike against Panama, the forward still hesitates to believe that his dream has come true. That’s what he said in a press conference this Wednesday (3) at The Ridge hotel, where the Seleção is staying in New Jersey.“When I arrived at Granja, it still hadn’t fully sunk in. It doesn’t feel real. I’m very happy to be here with the national team and to play in this World Cup. It’s something very positive. The biggest goal is to make our people proud. And to have the chance to bring that sixth title home,” he celebrated.“Being called up for the World Cup is the greatest achievement of my life, personally and professionally. When I was back in my hometown, I dreamed of representing my country, but when you get here, the feeling goes far beyond what I imagined", he added.Igor Thiago during a press conference with the Brazilian National Team in New JerseyCredits: Rafael Ribeiro/CBFThe 24-year-old player is among coach Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking options and has shown himself to be a valuable alternative. In his debut against France, he was involved well in attacking moves and found the net against Croatia and Panama.“Regardless of whether I start or not, I want to be available for the national team. Just being available to represent the national team is already a huge source of gratitude and joy. When you wear the national team shirt, you have to be prepared for whatever comes. That mindset of always giving our best football and also encouraging our teammates to do their best—this competitiveness is healthy for our national team, and I hope we can do that more often,” he said. The Brasília-born striker from Gama ended last season as the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League campaign, at 24 years old. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHigh school girls lacrosse: Watertown, South Jefferson denied in Section 3 finalsCORTLAND — The South Jefferson and Watertown girls lacrosse came into Thursday night with high hopes of successfully defending their Section 3 titles and getting back to the state playoffs.Yet both were turned away in their respective finals, with each coming up short in comeback attempts. In a close finish that went down to the wire, Watertown came storming back to take the lead in the final minutes, only to let the opportunity slip away in a 13-12 loss to Fayetteville-Manlius in the Class B title game at SUNY Cortland. Then on the same field, Jamesville-DeWitt outlasted South Jefferson to record a 10-7 triumph in the Class C final.FAYETTEVILLE-MANLIUS 13, WATERTOWN 12The top-seeded Hornets held off the second-seeded Cyclones to prevail in the Class B final. The Cyclones who trailed by as many as three goals in the second half, tied the game at 11-all as Olivia Macutek scored on a free-position attempt with 8 minutes, 46 seconds left in regulation.Watertown then took a 12-11 lead as Adriana Arthur converted on a free-position shot with 7:05 remaining.“We knew coming into it that is was going to be a tough game and it was going to come down to the very end,” Macutek, a junior midfielder, said. “And our team we fought back to get the lead at the end and our goalie made a couple key saves and we had big players stepping up in the offense and we worked really well together as a team.“This one is going to hurt, but we just have to keep moving forward and hope that next season we can come out with a win.”But F-M came back to draw even at 12-12 on an unassisted goal from Helen Dougherty with 6:02 left and Jane Ryan followed with the go-ahead tally with 3:07 remaining.Undaunted, the Cyclones fought right down to the end as they hit a goal pipe and Hornets’ goalie Efimia Everding made two saves in the final 30 seconds, corralling the ball on their last shot.“That’s what you practice and train for all year for that perfect situation and it’s super upsetting when you can’t capitalize on it,” Macutek said. “But I’m super proud of our team.”“It was just hard to find each other,” Arthur, who is a senior forward, said. “I mean F-M, they have good (defense) and we couldn’t find each other for the goal.”Watertown’s defense, led by junior Lucy Swartz, strengthened in the second half, allowing only four goals, including limiting F-M to one tally in the third quarter.Goalie Lilah Bierl made six saves on the night for the Cyclones to help keep them within reach of the Hornets. Her counterpart Everding totaled eight saves.“Our defense works really, really hard to shut down teams,” Arthur said. “Lilah our goalie made some amazing saves and kept us in it. They did a good job getting us the ball back on offense.”Taylor Novack supplied four goals and two assists to pace F-M, and Mallory Burns and Ryan each scored three goals, while Dougherty contributed two goals and two assists.Watertown, which reached a sectional final for the second straight year, finished its season at 12-6.“I think I said it from the beginning that I have a group of girls that never quit and work their hardest for the whole game,” Watertown coach Taylor Purvis said. “That’s one thing that we said from the jump, they have the grit, they have the determination, they’re going to play the whole 48 minutes, whether you’re down or up.”Arthur generated six goals to lead Watertown, Milan Gosier totaled two goals and two assists and Macutek and Julia Covey each provided two goals and an assist.“It was definitely a battle, we were expecting it,” Arthur said. “We were really prepared for this game and to come out strong, which is what we did, we worked to the final whistle. I’m really proud of everyone, we worked really hard, we worked hard in practice building up to it, too, even though it wasn’t the ending we wanted.”The Cyclones defeated Auburn 11-7, in a semifinal last Thursday to reach the title game.Last year, Watertown bested Auburn to win the Class B title and advanced to a state quarterfinal.Earlier on Tuesday, Watertown led 3-2 before F-M generated a 5-0 run, which extended into the second quarter, to build a four-goal lead at 7-3.The Cyclones twice closed within two goals, including a tally from Arthur with 33.7 seconds left in the first half. But after winning the draw, the Hornets carried a 9-6 advantage into halftime on a free-position goal from Mallory Burns with 11.6 remaining.“It’s very tough,” Arthur said of the outcome. “I’ve been on the team for four years and I love being a part of that. It’s really sad that it’s come to an end, but I couldn’t be more proud of my team and my teammates with the way we fought right to the end.”JAMESVILLE-DEWITT 10, SOUTH JEFFERSON 7The second-seeded Red Rams rode a strong start and went on to outlast the top-seeded Spartans in the Class C final. In a meeting of two teams ranked in the top four in the state in Class C, Jamesville-DeWitt denied South Jefferson’s bid to win a third straight sectional title.“We definitely battled and never gave up until the end,” Spartans senior goalie Emma Vespa said “The first quarter was definitely very tough and we kept us in it, but that gap that they pulled ahead by we just couldn’t close it.“I thought we played as good as we could and the result showed that they definitely deserved it.”After yielding an early goal, the Red Rams led the rest of the way to hold off the Spartans.“I thought they played their game and that worked for them,” South Jefferson coach Jen Williams said of Jamesville-DeWitt. “And I think that was important that they stuck to the way they play, they play very consistent to what they do, and it worked, right? I think they were able to play the J-D way and it was successful for them.“And we just did a lot of hesitating I think and that cost us a couple times. We just didn’t seem to be able to recover from that two-goal deficit, we just didn’t get it under two the whole game,” Williams said. “I think they held that pretty well and every time we answered with a goal or two, they were able to respond.”South Jefferson scored the first goal of the game, but trailed by three goals at halftime at 6-3.The Spartans drew within two goals twice the third quarter, but the Red Rams generated back-to-back goals on a tally each from Kylee Gallagher and Gabriella Doumit to build a 9-5 advantage heading into the final period.“I think the first couple of goals that they had kind of set the tone a little bit, and then we were kind of playing catchup, which we did eventually,” Spartans sophomore defender Kendra Staie. “But it was just a little bit too late in the game,”South Jefferson answered with unassisted goals from Jordynn Hazard and Amalia Netto, with Netto’s goal coming with 7:39 left in regulation to close within 9-7.But the Spartans would get no closer as Maggie Bliss added an unassisted tally with 5:34 left for the final margin for Jamesville-DeWitt (16-2).“Their draw girls are amazing, but so are ours, I think it just came down to grit and determination,” Vespa said. “And we just weren’t able to capitalize on what we had even though we were coming down with the ball more, shooting more, I just think they were able to capitalize more on their possessions.”Goalie Pearson Eckrich made nine saves to record the win for the Red Rams.Aliana West scored two goals and assisted on two others and also won 10 draw controls, and Netto supplied a pair of goals and Emma Kelley contributed a goal and three assists to pace the Spartans, who finished their season at 16-3.“The draw was going to be a battle and I though Ali did a good job of battling back and it ended up being equal,” Williams said. “So that showed good recovery on Ali’s part, it also showed a lot of grit on our part to be able to get some stops, I think it got to four at one point and we were able to come back a couple times to get within two, which was good. But their goalie is fantastic and she was able to save a lot of our high shots.”South Jefferson won the past two Section 3 titles in Class D, reaching the state final two years ago and made the state semifinal last season.“Even though we didn’t win today, it’s a lot to say that we made it here with three starting freshmen and a few starting sophomores and we were able to battle like we did,” Vespa said. The Spartans, who also reached a sectional final for the fourth consecutive year, came into the game ranked No. 3 in the state after moving up a class this year.“This group is amazing, it’s definitely very hard on some youngsters to keep up with this high, intense pace,” Vespa said. “They’re not really used to it sometimes, we have freshmen out there on the field who have never been in a situation before, but they definitely showed up. We’ll just come back to it next year and just grind even harder.“We’re all definitely sad of course, but I’m really proud of how everybody played,” Kendra Staie said. “We never gave up and we were determined no matter what, we just kept going, so we’re upset that we lost, but I think we played well and were determined.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

Here are some of the non-Beckham takeaways from the workout.Taking action against injuriesIn revealing that defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris might be able to return this season from his Achilles tendon tear, head coach John Harbaugh also highlighted an aggressive response by the organization to the injuries.“You look for answers and there are none,” Harbaugh said. “You can’t predict tendons really hardly at all, let alone Achilles are the worst. You just don’t know.“There’s no common denominators with any of the three guys. There’s no common denominators with loads or anything else.”The Giants have, though, reacted in an effort to prevent more injuries.“What we did was we went to technology and we went to testing.,” Harbaugh said. “Tested all our guys this week. Turned over every stone, all hands on deck, and we’re bringing in four new pieces of equipment between strength training equipment and also testing equipment, body movement equipment to try to make sure that we can do everything we can for our players and make it as individualized as we can.“That’s what you do. You try to tackle it with everything you’ve got.”Andrew Thomas takes team repsLeft tackle Andrew Thomas, whose workload is being managed due lingering foot and shoulder issues, took left tackle reps during team periods on Wednesday. That is the first time Thomas has done so during the three OTAs media has had access to.Veteran defensive tackle Shelby Harris was again not at practice. He has not been in attendance at any of the workouts media has attended. Workouts are voluntary, so no explanation was given.Gunner Olszewski, out for the season with a torn Achilles, was in attendance. He was rolling around the field on a four-wheeled scooter.A couple of other lineup notes:Kayvon Thibodeaux took some first-team reps in place of Brian Burns, the first time media has seen Thibodeaux do so this spring..The starting trio of wide receivers was Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin, Malachi Fields.Greg Newsome and Deonte Banks split first-team cornerback reps.Play of the dayMooney had a sweet catch on a deep, back shoulder ball thrown by Jaxson Dart with Newsome in tight coverage.Rough day for Ben SaulsPlacekicker Ben Sauls made just four of 10 field-goal attempts from between 33 and 47 yards. Sauls did rally to make two late field goals from about 35 yards at the end of 11-on-11 move the ball sessions.Pass rush on the prowlDefensive coordinator Dennard Wilson dialed up a few effective blitzes. Abdul Carter and Arvell Reese got home on one. Cornerback Nic Jones got home on another, and let everybody hear about it.\Wid receiver movesWhy were the Giants so aggressive in signing three wide receivers on Monday?“I’d say just principally doing everything you can to be the best you can be, give yourself the chance to be the best team you can be,” said head coach John Harbaugh. “Those were three guys that were out there, we’ve been monitoring, talking about those three for a while.”“Probably was a catalyst when we lost Gunner. Didn’t have to be a ‘one for one’. “Try to be aggressive and give ourselves as many opportunities as we possibly can to have the strongest roster we can. We’ll see what happens.“0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

APNEWS.COMSpaceX’s IPO is set to be the biggest ever and could make Elon Musk a trillionaireA Falcon 9 SpaceX heavy rocket lifts off from pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018. (AP Photo/John Raoux, File)2026-06-03T21:01:50Z NEW YORK (AP) — SpaceX says it plans to raise up to $75 billion when it goes public this month, setting the stage for the largest-ever stock market debut and putting Elon Musk on course to becoming the world’s first trillionaire. The company, formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp., said Wednesday it will sell 555.6 million shares at $135 a piece. The offering would give SpaceX a market value of $1.77 trillion. Only six companies in the S&P 500 are currently worth more, with Nvidia tops at $5.2 trillion.Besides the size of the offering and the expected proceeds, SpaceX’s amended prospectus updates details about how much control of the company Musk will have. As SpaceX’s CEO, chief technical officer and chairman, Musk’s voting power will come primarily through his ownership of 5.22 billion Class B shares, which give the holder 10 votes for every share held. According to the filing, Musk would have 82.4% of the voting power in the company. Forbes currently values Musk’s net worth at $826 billion and his stake in SpaceX at $542 billion. The estimated proceeds from the SpaceX IPO would easily top the $26 billion raised by oil giant Saudi Aramco in 2019. Time will tell how SpaceX fares on the market. Musk’s plans for the company are as fantastical as the money he hopes raise in the sale.Colorful, even frightening in parts, the IPO document strikes a contrast with the typically dry, technical prose in IPO documents, detailing plans to use proceeds from the sale to help put men on the moon again and perhaps even Mars. In one section, it talks of a need to build “a permanent human colony” on the red planet with “at least one million inhabitants” as existential threats loom that could consign man to “the same fate as the dinosaurs.” Read More And SpaceX isn’t the only colossal market debut investors are now bracing for. Earlier this week, Anthropic submitted a confidential filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to officially start its own IPO clock.OpenAI has not yet reported filing the initial SEC paperwork, but an IPO from the ChatGPT maker is widely expected.__Report Matt O’Brien contributed. APNEWS.COMShia LaBeouf gets probation after pleading guilty to punching bargoers during Mardi GrasShia LaBeouf poses for photographers upon arrival at the premiere of the film 'The Phoenician Scheme' at the 78th international film festival, Cannes, southern France, May 18, 2025. (Photo by Lewis Joly/Invision/AP, File)2026-06-03T17:28:54Z NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Actor Shia LaBeouf was sentenced to probation Wednesday after pleading guilty to punching three people outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras.LaBeouf must attend an alcohol treatment program under the sentence handed down by an Orleans Parish judge, according to Sarah Chervinsky, an attorney for the actor. LeBeouf, most widely known for his starring roles in 2007’s “Transformers” and in 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull,” had been released on bail following his arrest near the city’s historic French Quarter. Video of the Feb. 17 encounter shows a shirtless LaBeouf outside a bar shoving one person to the ground and hitting another person in the face, “causing his nose to possibly dislocate,” according to a New Orleans police report. Police said LaBeouf repeatedly used homophobic slurs, including while he was arrested. LeBeouf pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery. Orleans Parish Judge Juana Marine-Lombard handed the actor a six month suspended sentence and two years of probation. LaBeouf also must stay away from the victims and the bar. Chervinsky said LaBeouf wanted “to take accountability for his part in what happened” and called it a “minor Mardi Gras bar tussle.” Chervinsky said there was “no evidence it was about bias or prejudice.” Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said in a statement that his office consulted with the victims to ensure their support before offering LaBeouf the plea deal. Read More Jeffrey Damnit, a local entertainer whom police identified as Jeffrey Klein, said he was one of the people attacked by LaBeouf. He has said LaBeouf had pushed him from behind at the bar earlier in the night, shouting homophobic slurs and threatening his life.Damnit’s attorney said his client hopes LaBeouf’s behavior improves after the actor undergoes substance abuse treatment. “In New Orleans we are all equal, we should all feel safe, and we don’t treat people different based upon relative fame,” attorney Michael Kennedy said. After LaBeouf was charged in February, a judge ordered him to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.Days later, LaBeouf denied having a “drinking problem” in an interview with journalist and YouTuber Andrew Callaghan. LaBeouf said he doubted rehab would help him. He told Callaghan that the issues leading led to his aggressive behavior during Mardi Gras were more rooted in “anger and ego” than alcohol. LaBeouf also said that “big gay people are scary to me.”“When I’m standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me touching my leg, I get scared,” he told Callaghan. “I’m sorry. If that’s homophobic, then I’m that.”LaBeouf, who converted to Catholicism a few years ago, has had several run-ins with the law during his career, including a 2017 New York City arrest on suspicion of assault that happened during a livestream. While on location in Georgia filming “The Peanut Butter Falcon” later that year, he was arrested for public drunkenness and accused of disorderly conduct and obstruction and sentenced to probation. In 2020, he was charged with misdemeanor battery and petty theft in Los Angeles. That year, the English singer and actor FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, also filed a lawsuit alleging LaBeouf was physically and emotionally abusive to her during their relationship, which they settled in July. The actor first gained acclaim as a child for his role on the Disney Channel series “Even Stevens.” ___Brook is a corps member for The Associated Press/Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. APNEWS.COMGame 1: Spurs and Knicks set to open the NBA Finals on Wednesday night in San AntonioSan Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson speaks to the media prior to the start of the NBA Finals basketball series against the New York Knicks, Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in San Antonio. (AP Photo/Eric Gay)2026-06-03T15:30:35Z SAN ANTONIO (AP) — For the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks, Game 1 of the NBA Finals might feel like old times. It’s the Knicks’ ninth time in the title series, and the eighth time they’ve played Game 1 on the road. It’s the Spurs’ seventh time in the title series, and the sixth time they’ve played Game 1 at home.Granted, a good amount of time has passed for both teams since they’ve been on this stage: The Knicks haven’t played in the finals since losing to the Spurs in 1999, and the Spurs haven’t been there since beating the Miami Heat in 2014.“I think we’re just locked in and focused on the task at hand,” Knicks forward Josh Hart said. “Then we can look back when everything is all said and done and really embrace this process and this run. It’s an honor, but can’t focus too much on the outside world and the run so far.”The run the Knicks are on coming into this series is without compare: 11 straight wins by a total of 262 points, the most lopsided 11-game run — regular season or playoffs — in NBA history. The Spurs have a different kind of streak going into Wednesday night. They’ve never lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals, going 6-0 in openers when they make the title round. Most players on both teams are making their finals debuts in this series. Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox said it’s still going to be important for his team to remember how they got to the finals in the first place. Read More “This is a hard thing to do. It’s hard to get back to these places,” Fox said. “Don’t change anything that we’re doing. There’s a reason that we’re in the finals. There’s a reason that we won (62) games. There’s a reason we didn’t lose three games in a row the whole year. So, we don’t want to get to this place and then start changing the way we play.”___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/nba TIM REYNOLDS Reynolds is an Associated Press sports writer, based in South Florida. twitter mailto0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 41 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHolly Holm opens door for retirement in 2026 after controversial Stephanie Han loss: 'That's where I'm at'Prior to this past weekend, Holly Holm had never suffered back-to-back defeats in her Hall of Fame boxing career. But after her first match against Stephanie Han ended prematurely due to a cut caused by an accidental head-butt in January, Holm lost a controversial majority decision in the rematch Saturday in Han's home of El Paso, Texas.Holm, 44, has yet to rewatch her latest loss to Han, but still believes she should have been the rightful winner after the 10-round clash for the WBA lightweight championship. On Wednesday's edition of "The Ariel Helwani Show," Holm expressed that the loss is extra frustrating thanks to it following the events of the first Han encounter."Life always goes on. You always have to just keep fighting and pushing forward, and life is really blessed," Holm told Uncrowned. "I can't change the path. You can only go forward. So I'm definitely frustrated. It's just, both fights having controversy at the end, it's frustrating. Two fight camps, putting all the work in and not getting that result I wanted — and I do feel in my heart I won, but on paper, that's just not what it is."I do think that there's still opportunities possible — not everything's just lying on the one fight. But the fight itself, you put so much work in, and it's just kind of disheartening."Saturday’s rematch was closely contested in the eyes of the judges, but ultimately the verdict went to Han, who was awarded two 96-94 scorecards, with the dissenting judge scoring a 95-95 draw. Holm acknowledged the pace was competitive early on but believes she pulled away as the fight wore on, leaving her baffled by the decision."I felt like the first few rounds, it started a little closer, and then I just started to take over and took control of the fight. I felt in control, for the most part," Holm said. "Anything can happen. And obviously, there's some [punches], like if I pull out [and pull away], and it almost looks worse than what it is. It's a 10-round fight. It's not like she didn't land any shots. I never felt any hard shots that really did a lot, and I know that I was dictating the pace. I know I was the one with more action. I felt like I threw more punches."I know I was in her hometown, but you still have to trust that maybe these judges are going to be professional. There's a lot of things I felt during the fight, things that were frustrating, even from the first fight. I keep my mouth shut because if you say anything too much, the ref’s there, you don't want to be on their bad side and stuff like that."Competing in enemy territory wasn't necessarily a deterrent for Holm ahead of the bout. But as the action unraveled, it reminded her of past instances when she was treated bizarrely, citing her first fight with Han in Puerto Rico. That wasn't a case of favoritism, Holm said, but one where she was treated more as an MMA fighter than a boxer, despite her Hall of Fame credentials. In the rematch, Holm noticed what she considered strange officiating from the referee, who focused more on the little things she did than on Han."The whole fight, I feel like the ref was just constantly like, 'Watch your head, watch your head, watch your head,' and telling me stuff," Holm said. "Stephanie's over here, kind of doing some rabbit punches. Not that they hurt — it's a fight, I don't really care. But just stop pointing the finger at me for things."There was one time I thought, 'I'm going to pretend just to see what the ref does.' I didn't even hit her. I just pretended, and sure enough, the ref was on my case. I'm not saying it's the ref's fault. It's obviously the judge’s [fault] more. But when you have a ref that's constantly telling one fighter more than the other … there's just frustrating things sometimes."Holm spoke openly about the idea of retirement before her latest in-ring appearance. Despite the Han rematch not going her way, she's not quite there yet. But Holm is sinking deeper into accepting the reality that the end of her run is near, sooner rather than later. The potential for a blockbuster Katie Taylor match next may have been blown up by the loss. Regardless, Holm sees maybe one or two fights left for her — whether it’s MMA or boxing — before she puts a bow on her legendary combat sports career to end 2026."If I'm being really honest, I just want big fights. All of them are big fights for a title. But I’m definitely like, within the year and I’m done. That's where I'm at," Holm said."I definitely want it to be fights that people want to see. I want it to be something big like that, and that's where I'm at, whether it be MMA or boxing. I don't want to be one of those people who's like, 'It's my retirement fight. Ha, ha, not really.' The only time I ever did that was when I went from boxing to MMA. I said, ‘It's my last boxing fight, I'm going to MMA full-time.’ I wasn't retiring from fighting. I was just done boxing at the time, and that was true. But I've never actually been like, 'I'm just done fighting for good.' Not saying I couldn't say that then come back if i change my mind, but I definitely am getting closer. I'm not ready quite yet, but I would say within the year, I'll be done."Holly Holm's rematch against WBA champion Stephanie Han ended in controversy.Ed Mulholland via Getty ImagesWith MMA remaining a possibility for Holm to close out her storied career, it leaves unique options on the table for her even in defeat — especially if that opponent is someone like Gina Carano, who recently returned to MMA for her clash against Ronda Rousey on Netflix.Carano was complimentary of Holm in the wake of the latter's loss. Taking to social media, Carano called Holm "the hardest working female athlete I've ever been around."Similar to Rousey ahead of her Carano bout, Holm made it clear that the idea of a fight against Carano would be incredible, purely out of the respect the two share."Her and I, just through social media, message here and there," Holm said. "There's just a very high mutual respect, and she always has such good words. I never have enough good words to say back, but all that is mutual. I have so much respect for her and who she is and what she's done. She's done a lot for the sport. She stands on her ground as well, and she's an honest person and a straightforward person and stands for what she feels is right at times, even receiving a lot of backlash and things like that. As a person, I really respect Gina. I really do. She's a great individual. She's got a good heart and done a lot in this sport."People do ask about that fight. If I ever fought Gina Carano, it would be out of pure respect for two of us just loving this sport and wanting to put on a good fight. So there's that. So I would only if it was mutually agreed. … I have a lot of love for Gina Carano."0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMViral, controversial high school track and field DQ overturnedThe controversial disqualification of Mallard Creek High School at the NCHSAA 8A Track and Field State Championships on May 16 has been reversed. While a specific state’s track and field state championships tend to fly under the radar on the national scale, this year’s event ended in controversy and went viral. In a video posted by the High School OT account on X, Nyan Brown, a Mallard Creek boys’ track and field team member, was seen finishing the 4×400 relay. When he was nearing the finish line, he lifted his arm with his hand facing away from him. It appeared he had won, but he was disqualified at the finish line for unsportsmanlike conduct. The video went viral on social media because nobody could believe that such a small act, near the finish line, would be considered unsportsmanlike conduct or taunting. After the event loss in the state championships, Mallard Creek High School filed an appeal with the NCHSAA Board of Directors and Commissioner Que Tucker, per USA Today. The appeal was heard by a three-member Independent Interscholastic Athletics Appeals Board run by the N.C. State Board of Education. After two hours of meeting, hearing statements and reviewing evidence from both the NCHSAA and Mallard Creek officials, a reversal was issued. “[Mallard Creek] had presented clear and convincing evidence that the student-athlete did not engage in unsporting or unacceptable conduct as defined in the track and field competition rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations. As a result, Mallard Creek will become co-state champions in the event, and as a result, an overall co-state champion in track and field with C.E. Jordan High School. Tucker discussed the decision. “At the center of the matter are young people who have invested countless hours into their sport and their team. We appreciate the work of the Independent Interscholastic Appeals Board and respect the process that led to today’s outcome. We are pleased that this matter has reached a resolution and that the accomplishments of the student-athletes involved can be recognized.”Brown will now turn his attention to running for North Carolina State University next season.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOdell Beckham Jr. understands he has to earn a roster spot with the GiantsEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Odell Beckham Jr. does not expect to have a roster spot handed to him after returning to the New York Giants.“I know I’ve got a lot of work to do,” Beckham said Wednesday after his first offseason workout practice with the team since signing Monday. “I came here to earn anything. Everything in my life, nothing was given to me. I came here to earn it, work hard every day and be the best I can for the team.”Beckham, 33, worked out for the Giants in April, and coach John Harbaugh said the conditions would have to be right for a reunion. Returner/receiver Gunner Olszewski tearing his right Achilles tendon last week precipitated the move to bring in Beckham, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Braxton Berrios.“Try to be aggressive and give ourselves as many opportunities as we possibly can to have the strongest roster we can,” Harbaugh said. “They’ll be competing for roles. They’ll be competing for their opportunity, just like everybody else. Let’s see how it goes.”There is significant uncertainty at the position, with Malik Nabers working to rehab a torn ACL in his right knee. There is lingering doubt about Nabers being ready for the season opener Sept. 13 against Dallas.Beckham making the team is no guarantee, but this isn't just about nostalgia in New York after getting drafted by the Giants in 2014 and spending his first five NFL seasons with them. He has not played a game in the league since Dec. 8, 2024, with Miami after serving a six-game suspension last year for failing a performance-enhancing drug test.He took time away from football and has been working out since to get in optimum shape.“I still love this game so much,” Beckham said. “Felt great being out there, being back in the building, on this field. Looking at this stadium, it’s a pretty surreal feeling.”___AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJared Verse isn't aiming to fill shoes left by Myles Garrett after trade to Browns: 'My job is to be the best me'Jared Verse beamed a radiant smile at several points of his Cleveland Browns introductory news conference on Wednesday.“I'm used to hard situations,” the 25-year-old defensive end told reporters. After making the Pro Bowl in each of his first two NFL seasons, a career that began with him being selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the 2024 draft and winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year took a hard turn this week. On Monday, the Rams, Super Bowl favorites, dealt Verse to a Browns organization that’s made the playoffs only three times this century.Verse was the crown jewel of a trade package Cleveland received in exchange for two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Born in Dayton, Verse is suddenly back in Ohio."Yeah, it caught me by surprise,” Verse said of the blockbuster transaction. “I loved LA. I loved the coaches, the organization, my teammates, everybody a part of it, the staff, the fans — I loved the whole vibe of L.A., the Los Angeles Rams, and it was upsetting. I was upset for a good little bit of time. “But when you're an athlete, you understand the nature of business. Everybody does what they think is best for their business, and that's the situation that I'm in. I'm happy to be a part of the Browns. I'm happy that they believed in me and they were able to make that trade and bring me here [to] be with my teammates, [to] be with everybody here.”Verse later added: “You got two choices: You can either work, or you can give up. And I ain't never been a quitter."Verse’s ascension is well-documented. He gave the SparkNotes version on Wednesday. Verse had one offer coming out of Central Columbia High School in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. He started his college career at UAlbany, where he broke out in 2021. Then he transferred to Florida State. While starring for the Seminoles for two seasons, he developed into a Day 1 NFL Draft pick. “I've always been doubted my whole life,” Verse said Wednesday. “Leaving college, I was less doubted, but still had the little chip on my shoulder and everything like that. … When I was with the Rams, I was still learning how to play D-End, still learning how to be a football player, NFL player, and how to play at this next level. “And the Browns got me. Now I feel like they're going to get the best of me. They're not going to get a half-finished project or something you got to work on. … This is going to be the best version of me. Everything I've done this offseason, it's going to be great.”Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentVerse said the initial disappointment in the trade news dissipated after a couple of hours, following 1-on-1 conversations with now-former Rams teammates Byron Young and Braden Fiske, the latter of whom he also played with at FSU.Verse swung his focus to his next chapter, which he emphasized Wednesday isn’t about filling the shoes of Garrett, a future Pro Football Hall of Famer and now the NFL’s single-season sack record holder. “That's not my job,” Verse said. “My job is to be the best me. If I'm the best me, I'm not going to be Myles Garrett, I'm not going to be Maxx Crosby, this guy, that guy, the best players in the league. I'm going to be the best Jared, and that's going to be the best player in the league.”Verse is coming off a 7.5-sack campaign in L.A. He piled up 58 total tackles and forced three fumbles. Plus, he made an impact in the postseason for the second year in a row, once again tallying a trio of TFLs as the Rams took another stab at a playoff run.L.A. trots out a 3-4 defense, whereas Cleveland rides with a 4-3. Verse was noticeably excited about that change as well as the speed at which his fellow defenders were flying around during OTAs on Wednesday. With four down linemen, the Browns’ scheme seems to fit Verse’s “attacking” play style. It’s clear Cleveland saw a place for Verse in the unit. When explaining the Garrett trade on Tuesday, Browns general manager Andrew Berry voiced how Verse was the linchpin of a deal that also landed the franchise a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-rounder.The third-year backfield wrecker appreciated that insight.“I feel like that's a testament to not only me but my family,” Verse said. “How hard we work and everything like that. “I feel like hard work never fails you. And to know that this wasn't going to go through if I wasn't a part of it, it's good to know that. That was probably the biggest fact that bought some sunshine into this whole situation for me. I saw that and was like, 'Yeah, they want me.' It was cool to know that.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

According to reports, the 49ers and Aiyuk have been at odds since last summer when the team voided the $27 million guaranteed in Aiyuk’s contract for next season. This was because he failed to attend meetings and other team activities. The 49ers’ general manager, John Lynch, has stated that he does not anticipate Aiyuk playing again for the team. Currently, the team is waiting to see whether another team will be willing to trade for Aiyuk. Otherwise, the 49ers could either cut him or keep him on the reserve list. There are three years remaining on Aiyuk’s four-year, $120 million extension signed last year. In spite of this, he no longer has any guaranteed money reamining.Since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, the 28-year-old Aiyuk has caught 294 passes for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns.Related Reading:“Ejected From The Car” Elite College Athlete Dies In Tragic Car Accident (Breaking News)Eagles’ 2026 First Round Draft Pick Makai Lemon Goes Down With Brutal Injury (Breaking News)“Old Videos Surfaced” NFL Star Dating High Schooler Goes Viral (Watch)“I Count 7 Squad Cars” Gaints’ Malik Nabers Pulled Over By Police, Incident Goes Viral (Watch)Breaking News: Cowboys Sign 24-Year-Old Wide Receiver In Shocking Twist (Report)“He’s Wanted Right Now” Superstar Has Arrest Warrant Issued (Breaking News)The post Watch: Brandon Aiyuk Has Arrest Warrant Issued After Posting Video Breaking The Law (Breaking News) appeared first on Gridiron Heroics.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUSC defeats Texas A&M in the postseason once againOn Monday night, the USC baseball team defeated Texas A&M 7-1 in the decisive game of the College Station Regional. With the victory, the Trojans advanced to the super regionals for the first time since 2005.Of course, this is not the first time recently that the Trojans have defeated the Aggies in a notable postseason contest. Less than 18 months prior, the USC football team took down Texas A&M in the 2024 Las Vegas Bowl. Jayden Maiava threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Ford with eight seconds remaining to give the Trojans a 35-31 victory.Obviously, there are quite a few differences between the two battles between the two schools. For one, the football matchup was played at a neutral site in Las Vegas, while the baseball teams faced off in College Station. On the gridiron, the Trojans needed a score in the final seconds to take down the Aggies, while on the diamond, they defeated them by a combined score of 21-4 over two games. In addition, the baseball showdown was a battle of two top 25 teams playing for a spot in a super regional. On the other hand, USC and Texas A&M both had disappointing 2024 football seasons, with the Trojans finishing the year 7-6 and the Aggies going 8-5.Still, USC has now defeated A&M twice in the postseason in two different sports in less than two years. It would not be surprising if at this point, Aggies fans want nothing to do with facing the Trojans again anytime soon. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: USC football and baseball both defeated Texas A&M in the postseason0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOdell Beckham Jr. excited to ‘earn’ place on John Harbaugh’s Giants in ‘surreal’ return homeNEW YORK — John Harbaugh told Odell Beckham Jr. during their extended spring courtship that he dreaded possibly having to cut OBJ if a return to New York didn’t work out.But Beckham told Harbaugh the coach didn’t have to carry that burden. He is here to earn his place, whatever the consequences.“I like it this way,” Beckham said after practice Wednesday. “I feel like it’s gonna elevate me. It’s gonna bring me up to have to earn it. Coach and I talked about that. I think that was one of his fears. He was like, ‘I love you so much, and I got so much respect for you. I don’t want to bring you here and then have to cut you’ or whatever.“And I’m like, ‘Listen, I’m going out on my sword either way it goes,' ” Beckham said. “So if that’s what you gotta do when you see I’m not at my best or a fit, then by all means I’m good with it. I can live with it. I can’t live with sitting at home not doing it. I just couldn’t do it. It’s not who I am.”Beckham, 33, had to get back on the grass, back with the team that he referred to as “my squad,” a return that gave him “a pretty surreal feeling” as he walked back onto the practice fields of East Rutherford, N.J., and looked across the parking lot at MetLife Stadium. He’s here for one last push at greatness, at contributing to victory in New York, after all the injuries he’s endured and all of his history as a lightning-rod former Giants star.“The way that I had to walk away was just unsettling in my soul, in my spirit,” he said. “I’ve never surrendered or quit or given up on myself. It wasn’t sitting with me well. So I have to do this. This is for myself. This is for my son. I want to lead by example. I want him to be able to see who I am, not, like, who I was. And just know that we never give up.”So Beckham said he would be “pushing it to the limit” during this short spring and summer, and that’s what he tried to do on Wednesday with mixed results. His first target from Jameis Winston was a deep shot down the left sideline. Corner Deonte Banks physically wrestled the ball away in tight coverage, and Beckham took the worst of the contact as both players landed on the grass.Beckham took his helmet off and was grabbed his nose and shaking off the hard landing before trotting back to the huddle.“You know, people don’t wanna get beat by me, so they’re gonna make sure they do what they can,” he said with a smirk. “But it feels good. It’s football. It’s been a minute. I’ve been missing it. I’m happy to be here.”He responded to that incompletion with a nice catch over the middle after sitting down in zone coverage, reaching high over his head and left shoulder to secure a Winston throw. Then he had to take care of himself on a Brandon Allen hospital ball over the middle that safety Raheem Layne stepped up and nearly intercepted.Veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster, another recent signing, had a more productive day and looked comfortable over the middle.Beckham said all the metrics say he’s still explosive and physically capable. It’s just about shaking off the rust of not playing a regular season football game since 2024.“We got a lot of measurements and numbers, and I look at all the numbers and I’m still just as fast, faster,” he said. “It’s just about being back in football.”OBJ did agree he should have plenty to offer young Giants star Malik Nabers as a mentor who went through plenty of ups and downs in his time in New York.“We know what kind of player he is,” Beckham said. “So however I could help him, anybody else, trust me, I know all the things to do and I know the things not to do.”He’s most excited, though, to try to bring a Lombardi Trophy home for John Mara and the Giants franchise that kept its arms open to his return home.“We had been in touch over the years, and seeing him and now seeing the kids and them grown up, I remember them when they were all in kids jerseys,” Beckham said. “Being able to be here and see Mr. Mara, I want to win it, but I want to do it bad for this family.”“This family brought me in, gave my first opportunity, so many amazing memories,” he added. “My life was here, and I never thought I’d be anywhere else. Even to have the opportunity to put a jersey and a helmet back on…”Beckham trailed off.“Actually,” he said, “I left one of my helmets here. It had dust on it.”He dusted it off. He’s a Giant again. He’s ready to make the most of it. And even if it doesn’t work out, he’ll feel better that he gave it one last try.Harbaugh: ‘Let’s go, Knicks!’Harbaugh put a Knicks hat on at the podium and cheered “Let’s go, Knicks!” ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals.“It’s exciting,” Harbaugh said. “Watching the way they play is fun, because I think it’s instructive. You get an opportunity to see how a team can come together and operate at its highest level.”“They’re playing with a lot of confidence because they understand where everybody’s gonna be at all times,” he added. “It’s like a coach’s dream when you watch a team play the way they’re paying. Fun team to watch. Let’s go get a win.”Harbaugh said he would like to go to an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden but quipped: “You gotta get tickets! It’s a tough ticket.”The Giants’ coach admitted the obvious: The Knicks fever that has engulfed the region is what the Giants are chasing.“It’s been exciting because obviously you envision that, you kinda get a little selfish,” Harbaugh said. “You want to see that for the Giants. It’d be something we’re working for. We’d like to get there, too.”Sauls has rough dayOne day after the Giants cut veteran kicker Jason Sanders, left-footed incumbent Ben Sauls made only 6 of 12 field-goal attempts during Wednesday’s practice. He missed six of 10 in one stretch. He sank two kicks from 33 yards, one from 38 and one from 43 while missing twice from 47, twice from 45, once from 38 and once from 43.He closed the practice with makes from 41 and 37 yards, but this was a concerning display and should be a great sign for undrafted rookie Dominic Zvada, the only other kicker remaining on the roster.Harbaugh said Sanders was released because “it’s windy out here” and “his style might not be a perfect fit for here really right now.” The Jets then signed Sanders on Wednesday afternoon and released Younghoe Koo, another former Giant, to keep him in New Jersey.Overall on Wednesday, the Giants’ defense was dominant, with Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Dennard Wilson’s secondary blitzes, Arvell Reese and Jevon Holland and others overwhelming Jaxson Dart’s offense.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -

APNEWS.COMHouse approves war powers resolution to halt military action against Iran, in a rebuke of TrumpSpeaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., joined by GOP leaders, prepares to talk to reporters at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, June 3, 2026. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)2026-06-03T19:43:25Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The House for the first time Wednesday approved a war powers resolution that would halt the U.S. military action against Iran, defying President Donald Trump as a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats to end the three-month-long conflict that has reordered politics at home and abroad.House Speaker Mike Johnson had tried to prevent an outcome that would show the mounting opposition to the war, abruptly shutting down floor action two weeks ago when the resolution was on the verge of approval. But displeasure has only grown as the conflict drags on and as Trump struggles to negotiate a plan for peace. The roll call Wednesday was 215-208, but next steps are uncertain. Trump would likely reject any measure from Congress to limit his commander-in-chief authority. Still, the tally, with four Republicans joining Democrats, was a rebuke of the president’s war strategy, and cheers erupted in the House chamber. “This reckless and costly war of choice needs to end today,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said earlier in the week.“All we need are a handful of Republicans to join us and we can end this reckless and costly war of choice — a war that has cost the American taxpayer over $100 billion — that’s extraordinary — and left our country in a weaker position relative to Iran.” Opposition to war growsIt’s the fourth time the House has tried to curb the U.S. war against Iran. The Senate advanced its own war powers resolution last month when a handful of GOP senators broke ranks with the Republican president in a rare show of political pushback from his party. Each time Democrats have pushed forward the war powers resolution, the vote tallies have inched higher as political unease with the U.S. war swells. Trump had campaigned for the White House on a promise to end U.S. entanglements abroad and focus more on domestic issues, but the war has shifted attention back to the Middle East. Read More Johnson insisted Trump is “laser focused” on the domestic front, particularly ahead of the midterm elections that will determine control of Congress. The speaker said he spent three hours at the White House with the president this week as Trump is calling on allies to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commerce, especially the flow of oil.Since the U.S. joined Israel in launching the Feb. 28 strikes on Iran, Americans have seen gas prices spike at the pumps, adding to inflationary pressure on consumer spending.Iran has been able to interrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital channel for a large segment of the world’s oil, natural gas and related products such as fertilizer. “We’re working on that final piece,” said Johnson, R-La. “The entire world has an interest in the Strait of Hormuz being reopen for commerce. That what he’s working on.”While a ceasefire in the conflict was declared in April, it remains uneasy and uncertain. Talks for a more durable end to the fighting have dragged, increasingly complicated by Israel’s broadening war with Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. Meanwhile, military strikes between the U.S and Iran continue to flare. Congress exerts its war powers authorityThe war powers resolution from the House would not immediately stop the war, but it would provide a symbolic if not legal step against further military action. The resolution next goes to the Senate, where four Republican senators last month joined Democrats in advancing a similar measure to curtail the U.S. campaign against Iran. The Senate has yet to take a final vote to approve or reject its own war powers resolution.Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Wednesday testifying at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing that the Iranians would think that the administration’s “hands are going to be tied” if Congress approved a war powers resolution. He said they would think ”we won’t be able to do anything to them, so why make a deal?” It’s not the only action Congress is taking in the national security arena as Democrats, in the minority, work to peel off Republican support for measures beyond the war against Iran. The House is also voting Wednesday on another Democratic-led effort that would authorize U.S. support for Ukraine’s military operations as it battles Russia and to help reconstruct the war-torn country. The House this week is also expected to consider a war powers resolution to block U.S. action in Lebanon. While Congress has the authority under the Constitution to declare war, the president also has power as the commander in chief to engage in military action, creating a legal dispute over which branch of government has ultimate say in matters of war and peace.Under the war powers act, the White House has a 60-day window to seek approval from Congress for military action. The administration, however, has indicated that because a ceasefire has been declared in the current conflict in Iran, the hostilities have ceased.___Associated Press writer Ben Finley contributed to this report.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 41 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'You sit back down': Jos Buttler reveals why he batted at No. 4 in IPL 2026 finalGujarat Titans' IPL 2026 final defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru featured several moments that attracted attention, but one of the biggest talking points came early in their innings when youngster Nishant Sindhu was promoted ahead of Jos Buttler. Now, the former England captain has revealed that the unexpected move was a tactical decision made by Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra. The Titans entered the final hoping to claim a second IPL title after defeating Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2. However, they ran into a dominant RCB side that had already beaten them in Qualifier 1 and once again found themselves second best on the biggest stage.Their chase for the trophy suffered an early setback when captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 10 in the third over. With Gujarat needing stability, many expected Buttler to walk in at No. 3. Instead, Nishant Sindhu was sent to the crease in a move that surprised many observers.Speaking on the For The Love of Cricket Podcast, Buttler disclosed that he was preparing to bat before Nehra informed him of the change in plans."When the first wicket went down, I got up to put my helmet on. But Ashish Nehra said, 'You sit back down, we are going to send Nishant in at 3'. I did ask him after the game, and he just said it felt reactive at that point, and it was a good chance to get Nishant in the game as he's a top-order batter," Buttler said. The tactical call did not deliver the desired result. Sai Sudharsan fell soon after, increasing the pressure on the batting unit, while Nishant scored 20 before being dismissed in the eighth over. By the time Buttler eventually arrived at the crease, Gujarat were already struggling to build momentum. The England batter explained that the decision was partly influenced by Gujarat's desire to give Nishant a bigger role after a season in which opportunities had often been limited."He has been sometimes on that slippery slope where the team gets going, and he has ended up not batting or batting at 7. So it was a decision to get him in the game. He had batted ahead of me in another game against KKR. Right or wrong, it just didn't work out for us," he added. With wickets falling around him, Buttler attempted to guide the innings deep into the chase. However, he was unable to produce the acceleration Gujarat desperately needed, scoring 19 from 23 deliveries before being dismissed by Krunal Pandya.Looking back on his own contribution, Buttler admitted he was disappointed with the way his innings unfolded."When I did bat, I wanted to take it deep as we had lost a few wickets. I just never got the boundaries and got done in by a good piece of bowling from a smart operator, Krunal Pandya. It's disappointing when you go worse than a run-a-ball in an IPL final. It's not a great look," Buttler added.Gujarat eventually finished on 155, a total that never seriously threatened RCB. The defending champions completed a comfortable chase to secure a second consecutive IPL title, while the Titans were left reflecting on a final where several key decisions, including the promotion of Nishant Sindhu, failed to produce the outcome they had hoped for.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 39 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNBA Finals schedule 2026: Spurs vs. Knicks dates, times, TV channels, live streams, scores for playoff gamesNBA Finals schedule 2026: Spurs vs. Knicks dates, times, TV channels, live streams, scores for playoff games originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. For the New York Knicks, this return to the NBA Finals has been 27 years in the making. After a miracle run in 1999, New York has had its fair share of heartbreak. Until now. Their opponents? The San Antonio Spurs, who boast the youngest starting five in NBA Finals history. After a dynastic run in the 2000s and early 2010s, the Spurs are eager to return to their winning ways, especially with a deep young core that can contend for years to come. For the Knicks, the key to this series is to keep up their offensive firepower. Over the Knicks' 11-game win streak, they've averaged 122.9 points. This number would have led the NBA in the regular season. However, in the NBA Finals, the Knicks will have to grapple with the excellent frontcourt defense of Victor Wembanyama. The Spurs' key point will be contending with a rare team who outrebounds them. With a team like the Spurs, who has a powerful frontcourt, very few teams can beat them on the boards. But the Knicks are one of them, provided Mitchell Robinson isn't seriously limited by a finger injury. The Spurs will need to find a way to make the most of every possession in a way that may feel less familiar than against other opponents. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBCCI likely to not call Suryakumar Yadav for next selection meetingNEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is set to get in a huddle to discuss Suryakumar Yadav’s future in the T20I team. TOI understands that there’s a strong possibility that the current T20 captain, who led the team to successfully defend the T20 title in March, may not be asked to attend the next selection meeting for the white-ball tour of Ireland and England later this month. The selection meeting, it is learnt, will be either held in Chandigarh or Mumbai around the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan from June 6. The matter will be discussed on the sidelines of the BCCI’s apex council meeting on Thursday.ALSO READ: Suryakumar Yadav's successor needs unanimity, can Gambhir-Agarkar see eye-to-eye?TOI had first reported on April 18 that Surya’s position has been under scanner with the selectors mulling a new captain. On May 31, TOI reported that Surya was omitted from the long list of probables for this year’s Asian Games since the selectors wanted to try new captaincy options as they are preparing a succession plan.It is learnt that Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson are the contenders. There’s also an idea floated that vice-captain Axar Patel may be allowed to take charge on an interim basis to let Iyer and Varma settle in the team. Shubman Gill is asked to focus on Test and ODI cricket at the moment.Surya has endured a prolonged slump in form in international cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup. He struggled to regain his form in this IPL as well. It will be very difficult for the selectors to bet on the 35-year-old for the LA Olympics in 2028 and next T20 World Cup in 2028.0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 38 مشاهدة 0 معاينة

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRich Paul says he flies Delta Comfort Plus and his athletes should take noteRich Paul says he flies Delta Comfort Plus and his athletes should take note originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Rich Paul has negotiated more than $4 billion in contracts for his clients since founding Klutch Sports Group in 2012.He has also watched enough of those clients spend that money to know exactly what the warning signs look like. In a recent interview, the Klutch CEO laid it out directly for anyone paying attention."I got guys, 22, making $200 million over the next four or five years. I've got several of those guys," Paul said. "But the reality of it is that's not a lot of money based upon where you're starting, because they are done at 33. Everyone isn't going to play until their 40s."A 22-year-old athlete signing a five-year deal worth $200 million is looking at a peak earning window of roughly a decade before their playing career ends.By the time taxes take their share, athletes are looking at a 51 to 55 percent effective rate, depending on the stat, according to Paul. That turns $200 million into roughly $90-98 million before a dollar is spent on anything.Insane: Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul says $200 million isn't a lot of money for athletes and it goes quickly."I got guys, 22, making $200 million over the next four or five years. I'm constantly telling them that's not a lot of money based upon where you're starting, because… pic.twitter.com/O5dXeR42zP— Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) June 2, 2026What Paul said about private jetsHe went beyond the tax math to address the visible side of athlete spending, and did it with a personal example."No athlete can afford to fly private all the time, yet we see so many athletes on Instagram flying private," Paul said. "I cannot afford to fly private, and that's okay with me. I'll sit in the Comfort Plus as well, because I'm just trying to get where I'm going to make money. I don't want to spend money. And when I do fly private, you will never see it on Instagram, because it is not for show."Paul's estimated net worth sits between $120 and $150 million in 2026, built over 14 years through commissions, brand partnerships, and media ventures.Klutch now represents close to 300 athletes across the NBA, NFL, MLB, and WNBA. Draymond Green, one of Paul's most prominent clients, put the value of Paul's approach plainly when he said most agents treat athletes like the athlete works for them. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPHOTO GALLERY | The Hill Group walks away with win over Altoona league's Imler's PoultryJOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Capitalizing on free passes gave The Hill Group the momentum from the start of Tuesday’s Johnstown Collegiate Baseball League matchup with Imler’s Poultry of the Altoona AAABA League. The Hill Group tallied four runs over the first two frames, providing more than enough support for starting pitcher Hunter Thomas in a 5-2 victory at Sargent’s Stadium at the Point.Bouncing back from a one-run loss to defending AAABA national champion Mainline Pharmacy in the JCBL season opener gave a big confidence boost to The Hill Group, as it aims to return to the postseason for the second consecutive year.PHOTO GALLERY | Hill Group defeats Imler's Poultry 5-2“It was definitely big for us to get this win tonight,” said Hill Group assistant coach Jason Weber, who filled in for manager Rusty Thomas.“Last night was a competitive game.“We were only one or two hits away from being right there with it. Hunter came out tonight and led the way for us on the mound. We had a lot of guys step up today.”Hunter Thomas went the distance on the mound for The Hill Group, while walking two and striking out 10.Thomas scattered six hits, all singles. He retired a string of seven batters in a row spanning from the first through the fourth innings to protect the early lead.“He had great control,” Weber said of Thomas. “He only gave up a couple of walks. Had some good pop on his fastball and great movement on his off-speed pitches. You can’t ask for much more out of your starter.”The Hill Group (1-1) jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.Logan Bradish stroked a two-run triple over the head of the center fielder before coming home on an error.Tyler Weber then drew a bases loaded walk to give The Hill Group a 4-0 lead through two innings. The Hill Group needed just two hits to gain the advantage, capitalizing on four walks and a hit batsman to go along with the error.“We came out a little rusty,” Imler’s Poultry manager Adam Plummer said. “We’re fairly young with a lot of kids coming out of high school, so this is a big adjustment.“Once we settled down and got into the rhythm a little bit, we played pretty solid. It’ll come around for us.”Imler’s Poultry (0-1) cut into the deficit with single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 4-2.Nick Kraft brought home a run with an RBI infield single.Jake Hileman came home on a wild pitch. The Hill Group answered with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, as Bradish recorded an RBI on a fielder’s choice to set the eventual final.Seven different players for The Hill Group notched one hit. Brody Rumon scored twice.Gavin Fowler headlined the Imler’s Poultry offense by going 3-for-3 out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup.“We have a lot of new faces (on the team) this year,” Weber said. “We also have a couple guys returning who can really make a difference. We just want to be competitive and continue where we were at last year, and hopefully take another step up.”0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 38 مشاهدة 0 معاينة -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCobolli using Nadal's shower in bid for French Open gloryIt is the first time Cobolli has defeated a top-10 ranked opponent at a major [Getty Images]Flavio Cobolli is two wins away from clinching a maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open and he is doing everything he can to make it happen - including using 14-time champion Rafael Nadal's favoured shower cubicle at Roland Garros. The 24-year-old beat Canadian fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets to reach a major semi-final for the first time in his career. The 10th seed will play fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi on Friday for a place in Sunday's final.Arnaldi was on the brink of a two-set lead against compatriot Matteo Berrettini when the former Wimbledon finalist retired from their quarter-final because of a hip injury.Having revealed several superstitions in his on-court interview - thanking the crowd in French, maintaining the same racquet tension no matter the conditions and keeping the same post-match routine - Cobolli was asked about them in his press conference."I'm a little bit [superstitious] but not crazy - this week I'm a little bit more crazy than the others," he said. "I just go to the same restaurant, the same menu, the same shower."Cobolli then recalled a moment at a previous French Open when he was using the shower and Nadal knocked on the door asking him to hurry up because he was waiting to use that particular cubicle."He told me that it was his shower since 14 years," continued Cobolli. "So I think the best thing that I'm doing is the shower."Cobolli recovered from losing the first set to beat Auger-Aliassime 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 and he will make his top-10 debut on Monday if Jakub Mensik, who faces Alexander Zverev in the other semi-final, fails to win the title in Paris.Arnaldi's win in Wednesday's night session means an Italian finalist is guaranteed, even after the shock second-round exit of overwhelming favourite Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti being ruled out of the tournament because of injury.Sabalenka lets another golden Slam opportunity slipSabalenka crumbles in French Open quarter-finalsBoth players started slowly in the blustery conditions on Court Philippe Chatrier before Auger-Aliassime pounced at 5-4 to wrap up the opening set.Playing conditions improved after the roof was closed on the main show court, but Cobolli found himself an early break down in the second set before he rallied to win four games in a row and level the tie."I think we played two different matches today," Cobolli said. "The first set was incredibly windy and it was really tough to play."I went to the toilet to think a bit. I tried to change something. I thought 'this is the best court I've played on in my life because I can show my best tennis'."I said to myself to fight, this is the chance of my life and I must give everything in all my matches. So today I'm really happy."A single break in each of the third and fourth sets was enough to see Cobolli through as he secured his semi-final spot after three hours and 24 minutes on court.Auger-Aliassime's exit means that Cobolli and second seed Zverev are the only top-10 seeds remaining in the men's draw.Qualifier Chwalinska extends dream French Open runHewett & Reid into wheelchair doubles semi-finalsLive scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 التعليقات 0 المشاركات 38 مشاهدة 0 معاينة
