Detroit Lions’ Star Trio Ranked Behind Only One Team in NFL
The Detroit Lions may have missed the playoffs in 2025, but one national analyst believes their offense remains among the very best in football.Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame recently released his rankings of the NFL’s top offensive triplets heading into the 2026 season. The rankings are based on each team’s starting quarterback, lead running back, and top pass catcher. When the list was revealed, the Lions landed near the very top.Detroit’s trio of Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown came in at No. 2 overall, trailing only the Los Angeles Rams combination of Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams, and Puka Nacua. For Lions fans, the ranking serves as another reminder that this offense remains one of the league’s most dangerous groups.Detroit’s Offensive Firepower Continues to ImpressEven after a disappointing 2025 season by the organization’s standards, the Lions remain loaded with offensive talent.Verderame highlighted just how productive Detroit’s stars were a season ago.“Detroit remains one of the scariest offenses in football, even with the line losing a few pieces over the past few years in Frank Ragnow and Taylor Decker.”The numbers certainly back up that claim.Jahmyr Gibbs enjoyed a spectacular 2025 campaign, establishing himself as one of the NFL’s premier playmakers.“Gibbs totaled 1,839 yards and 18 touchdowns as a Pro Bowler in 2025.”The former first-round pick has become the centerpiece of Detroit’s running game while also creating mismatches as a receiver.Amon-Ra St. Brown Remains One of the NFL’s BestFew receivers in football have been as consistently productive as Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions’ All-Pro wideout once again delivered elite production in 2025.“St. Brown had 117 receptions for 1,401 yards and 11 scores.”Those numbers place him firmly among the league’s elite receivers.Whether operating out of the slot, creating yards after the catch, or making critical plays on third down, St. Brown continues to be Jared Goff’s most trusted target. His chemistry with the veteran quarterback remains one of the biggest strengths of Detroit’s offense.Jared Goff Continues Producing at a High LevelDespite receiving criticism during Detroit’s surprising playoff absence, Goff quietly put together another impressive statistical season.Verderame noted that the veteran quarterback’s production was overlooked by many observers.“Even Goff, who took some heat while Detroit surprisingly missed the playoffs last year, completed 68% of his passes for 4,564 yards and 34 touchdowns.”Those are not the numbers of a quarterback in decline. In fact, they reinforce why the Lions continue to have complete confidence in Goff as their franchise signal-caller.With offensive coordinator Drew Petzing now entering his first full season guiding the offense, expectations remain high for what this unit can accomplish. Why the Lions Could Challenge for No. 1While the Rams claimed the top spot in Verderame’s rankings, Detroit has a legitimate argument of its own.Gibbs is one of the most explosive backs in football.St. Brown is an established All-Pro.Goff continues to produce at a Pro Bowl level.Add in supporting weapons such as Sam LaPorta, Jameson Williams, Isaac TeSlaa entering Year 2, and one of the NFL’s most respected offensive coaching staffs, and it is easy to understand why Detroit’s offense remains feared around the league.Verderame believes there is only one thing standing between the Lions and a return to contention.“It’s a dynamic Motown team that needs a better defense.”That assessment mirrors what many Lions fans have been saying throughout the offseason. If Kelvin Sheppard’s defense takes a meaningful step forward in 2026, Detroit’s elite offensive triplets may have a chance to lead the team back to the top of the NFC.

    Thursday Cannon Fodder: World Cup
DALLAS, TEXAS - JUNE 01: FIFA President Gianni Infantino holds the FIFA World Cup winner's trophy while speaking during the FIFA World Cup 2026 International Broadcast Center Grand Opening ceremony on June 01, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. (Photo by Sam Hodde/Getty Images) | Getty Images The World Cup starts a week from today, but you could be forgiven if you hadn’t realized. Maybe it’s just my online circles, filters, and algorithms, but it feels as if this has been the least-hyped World Cup of my lifetime. I’ve got some theories as to why that may be.The expanded format has diminished the jeopardy of the group stage. All the good teams should go through to the knockouts. In the past, we knew there would be top teams with well-known stars who crash out early. It’ll happen again this year — that’s just the nature of tournament football — but the watered-down feeling is helping to kill the excitement. The flip side of that is all the countries making their first World Cup / getting back to the tournament after decades out of it. The excitement and joy experienced by those teams and countries has been lovely and uplifting. That’s a decent silver lining on what was, overall, a misguided and poor change to the format. For those of us who follow the club game closely, I think there is some degree of football fatigue. The gap between the Champions League Final and the start of the World Cup is less than two weeks. There are always games. And they’re better games, too. International football has it’s own appeal (that I enjoy, don’t get me wrong) but if you want best-on-best, you’ll find that at the club level. This perception — that there doesn’t feel like there is the right amount of hype around the World Cup — is absolutely being effected by my personal feelings about this particular version of the competition. It is by far the least excited I’ve been about one. That this World Cup is coming on the heels of Qatar 2022, a similarly problematic host country, certainly isn’t helping things. It’s a shame. I have fond memories of attending the Belgium-Saudi Arabia match at RFK Stadium in D.C. in ‘94 as a child. It was the coolest thing for a young soccer player and fan. I was incredibly excited when it was announced that we’d be getting another World Cup here in the U.S. D.C. wasn’t named as a host city, partly our fault for not having an appropriate venue. That was a bummer, but I was alright with the idea heading to Philly or NYC. Then the prices came out. The unholy alliance between Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump hasn’t helped things, either. Again and again, FIFA make decisions that seem to prioritize profits over people. Most recently, they decided that people would not be permitted to bring refillable plastic water bottles into match venues. During the American summer. And also screw you, environment.Without getting to the U.S. politics side of things, it seems bad that a World Cup team (Iran) still don’t have visas to enter the United States to play matches here. They’re scheduled to play their first match on June 15th. That’s the sort of thing we’re dealing with and it’s really putting a damper on my personal excitement. But the World Cup is still going to happen. And I’m still going to watch. I won’t enjoy it nearly as much as I’ve enjoyed them in the past. It fits with the general enshittification of the world, doesn’t it? Eat Arby’s.But that’s just, like, my opinion man (shoutout The Dude). I hope that y’all are excited and going to enjoy the World Cup. Really! There is another way of looking at and approaching things that suggests we do not allow the general state of things to steal our joy. I’m working on it.

Rockies' 1.30 ERA right-hander is 'no-brainer' trade candidate
Rockies' 1.30 ERA right-hander is 'no-brainer' trade candidate originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Colorado Rockies are, once again, one of the many teams set to sell at the MLB trade deadline. After sending Ryan McMahon away last year, the Rockies have some intriguing names worth adding this season.Hunter Goodman would be a fun pickup for catcher-needy teams, while Mickey Moniak is a breakout candidate who could bring back a solid return for the Rockies. But there's a different player who should be on the move.ESPN's Jeff Passan highlighted that 1.30 ERA right-hander Antonio Senzatela is a "no-brainer" trade candidate for the Rockies this season.Rockies' Antonio Senzatela is 'no-brainer' trade candidate"In the case of Senzatela -- who has gone from awful starter to one of the best relievers in baseball this season -- it's a no-brainer," Passan writes. While there might be some reservations about trading some of their other players, the Rockies shouldn't have any qualms about trading Senzatela this season. The 31-year-old will be a free agent after the 2026 season, and with how good he's pitching this season, he's a good bet to land a strong deal from a contender in free agency.MORE: Tarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyWith the Rockies already likely to lose him in free agency, trading him now makes too much sense. Besides, he has a 1.30 ERA this season, which is a far cry from his 6.65 ERA last year and his 5.02 ERA mark for his MLB career.Senzatela is playing his best baseball, and with many contenders in search of reliever help, the Rockies should trade the veteran right-hander without any worries this season. There might not be a more obvious trade candidate around MLB this season, as Senzatela is set to hit free agency and is having a career year. This is the perfect storm for the Rockies, as the $50.5 million veteran should be on the move by August 3.More MLB news:Mets projected to still sell at trade deadline by ex-MLB GMEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius

What if any roster moves will the Red Sox make this afternoon
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 27: Ryan Watson #56 of the Boston Red Sox reacts after defeating the Atlanta Braves at Fenway Park on May 27, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Paul Rutherford/Getty Images) | Getty Images The Red Sox have to make a decision on Tommy Kahnle today. He opted out of his minor league deal with the Red Sox on Tuesday, and we’re approaching the end of 48-hour window where the team needs to call him up to prevent him from becoming a free agent. Since he would both provide a veteran presence in the clubhouse and has been great in Worcester (to the tune of a 1.40 ERA), it seems like the prudent move to clear a roster spot for him. The spot that seems to make the most sense is Ryan Watson, who is a Rule 5 guy and needs to be offered back to the Giants if he doesn’t stay on the Red Sox 26-man roster all season. The fact the Red Sox let Ryan Watson go three innings to close out Payton Tolle’s gem last night also makes me think it could be him. This essentially burns all his bullets and rests the rest of the bullpen before you make the switch. We’ll know more in a few hours though. Talk about this and whatever else you’d like in this thread, and as always, be good to one another.

Florentino Perez received direct message from Haaland’s camp after Riquelme’s promises
Florentino Perez received direct message from Haaland’s camp after Riquelme’s promisesThe controversy surrounding Erling Haaland and the Real Madrid presidential elections continues to generate headlines, with a fresh report now revealing direct contact between the player’s camp and Florentino Perez.According to MARCA (h/t Madrid Zone), Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, personally contacted the current Real Madrid president following claims made by presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme regarding the Norwegian striker’s future. The development comes after one of the most dramatic days of the election campaign, with transfer promises, public denials and political manoeuvring all becoming intertwined. What’s the background? The latest chapter began when Riquelme publicly declared that Erling Haaland would become a Real Madrid player if he won the presidential elections.Perez received a call from Haaland’s agent. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)The statement immediately attracted attention, particularly because it suggested that groundwork had already been completed behind the scenes. However, the response from Haaland’s representatives arrived swiftly.Just hours after the comments gained traction, both the striker’s father, Alfie Haaland, and his agent, Rafaela Pimenta, issued a public clarification aimed at dismissing the reports.According to the aforementioned outlet, though, the matter did not end there.Pimenta contacts PerezRiquelme has promised Haaland’s signing. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)The report claims that Pimenta later contacted Florentino Perez directly to reiterate that no agreement existed between Haaland’s camp and Riquelme. The conversation served to clarify the situation and ensure there was no misunderstanding regarding the player’s position. The communication is important to bring into light given the long-standing professional relationship between Perez and Pimenta, which has generally been described as respectful and constructive.Meanwhile, it must be remembered that Perez, on his part, announced Jose Mourinho as the club’s next head coach while also confirming the arrival of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate as part of his vision for the coming years.

Google Employees Internally Share Memes About How Its AI Sucks
While Google CEO Sundar Pichai proudly tells the world that 75 percent of all new code at the company is AI-generated, internally Google employees are sharing memes about how AI is bad at that exact task and makes their job harder. One such meme was posted to an internal Google message board called Memegen on May 19, right as the company kicked off its annual I/O conference where it reveals its biggest products and features, according to a copy seen by 404 Media. Unsurprisingly, I/O 2026 was heavily focused on Google’s AI products, which seemed to frustrate or at least amuse some Google employees. This particular meme was a screenshot of Google’s on stage presentation. “I/O announces entirely new ways to slop,” the meme said, with the word “slop” edited into the image in Impact font. The meme was quickly given more than 100 thumbs up from other employees.404 Media recreated the memes we’ve seen rather than sharing the same exact images in order to protect our sources, who were not permitted to share them with the press. 💡Do you know anything else about how Google or Meta uses AI? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at ‪@emanuel.404. Otherwise, send me an email at emanuel@404media.co.I wasn’t able to confirm the exact number of anti AI memes shared on Google’s Memegen message board, but I’ve seen dozens of them. One Google employee told me that there are dozens of new memes like this being shared every week. This source estimated that the number of anti AI memes shared inside Google in the last year is in the “high hundreds / thousands.” This employee also said that the number of anti AI memes “spikes when there’s product announcements, or model updates, or Jetski breaks down or something.”Jetski is Google’s internal AI coding tool. One image shared on May 14 on Memegen I’ve seen shows an interaction between a Google employee and Jetski. “How did you get these metrics?” the Google employee’s prompt said. The screenshot shows that Jetski “thought for 11s,” and then said: “To be completely transparent, the specific numeric metrics and quantitative values presented in that supplemental report were simulated by the secondary sub-agent rather than extracted from live production systems.” In other words: Jetski made them up. “Thanks Jetski, very useful report,” says the impact text over the screenshot. That meme has more than 400 upvotes.“Wow, it’s learned to pass blame, it truly is human!” said the first comment on that post. Another meme shared on May 19 showed Star Trek’s Starship Enterprise traveling at light speed. “AI on the I/O stage: writes an operating system,” said the text overlaid on that image. This image was juxtaposed with a picture of a child stuck on a slide at a playground. “AI when I use it: invents fake proto fields,” said the text overlaid on that image. This meme quickly got more than 50 thumbs up. Another meme shared on May 19 is the image of the big forehead fish. “Aren’t you using AI? Who is still taking so much time? AI is magic, are you a muggle? New best AI tool launched just today,” says the text overlaid on the annoying fish. “Me, working,” said the text overlaid on the diver who is attempting to work.Someone responded to that meme a day later with a picture of Stimpy from the cartoon Ren and Stimpy looking at a red button, sweating, with a man standing on his back and looking at him expectantly. “Companies trying to get me to use their AI features,” the text says. A meme shared on May 13 shows Margot Robbie as Barbie dancing enthusiastically on one side of the image, and Cillian Murphy as Robert Oppenheimer looking into the middle distance with the weight of the world on his shoulders. “CL author Vibe Coding massive changes,” says the text over Barbie. CL is short for changelist, meaning changes to code in existing projects. “Code reviewers,” says the text over Oppenheimer. That meme got more than 160 thumbs up. It refers to a problem 404 Media has covered previously, which is that AI-generated code is easy to produce quickly and in large quantities, but it makes the work of human code reviewers much more difficult because there is so much more to sort through, and no one understands the code because no one wrote it. “We’re finding that AIs have relieved the pressure and bottleneck of code generation, but that everything else has become the bottleneck, Google-wide testing and build times, human review delays, comparatively slow infra and VCS,” one Google employee told me. “The conclusion many colleagues are arriving at is that Google’s infra [infrastructure] and eng [engineering] culture was built to be stable and intentionally slow, and that pressures to accelerate using AI are bumping into that.”This employee said that there’s been an “understandable push” to automate part of what his team works on, but that there’s also a pressure to “inflate counter factual metrics.” For example, Google will claim it would have taken them much longer to complete a project if it didn’t use AI. The employee said he could easily AI generate 100 individual tasks, but actually finishing the job requires human intervention and takes just as much time as always. “Projects AI-related are prioritized, everything else gets pushed off (I was supposed to work on something testing related and after a lot of back and forth that project was cancelled and now I was dragged into an Agents related project),” another Google employee told me. “I have zero motivation, I feel kind of burnt out of the constant shifts. I do not have an alternative at the moment (and I am sending my CV around).”“We encourage our engineers to vigorously test and critique our internal tools; that candid feedback loop is vital to how we build technology," a Google spokesperson told me. "AI coding models are designed to assist developers, but it’s critical that we maintain humans in the loop – including the oversight and expertise of our world class engineering talent. We continue to refine our internal tools based on employee feedback to ensure they are enabling, and not hindering, daily productivity.”

Fenway Park's 'Different Vibe' Is Hurting 2026 Red Sox
Fenway Park - Boston Red Sox One thing that has been a surprising talking point around the Boston Red Sox this season has been their struggles at Fenway Park.Typically, Fenway Park is an advantage for the club. It's hard to play off the Green Monster out in left field, but Boston is able to get used to it. The dimensions in right field are tricky with Pesky's Pole. It's a tough place to play, but the Red Sox typically are good at home. That hasn't been the case this year. Boston is 10-20 at home so far this season after a win on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.Earlier in the Orioles series, Red Sox utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa raised some eyebrows by talking about the difference between playing at home and on the road this season."I just feel like on the road we’re a very close-knit team, we come home and there’s just a lot of people. It’s different. It’s just a different vibe at home," Kiner-Falefa said. “We’ve got to figure out a way to make it small like how it is on the road. I just feel like at home we see a lot of people we don’t know that are around this area… we gotta find a way to bring that back home.”Do you have a take to get off your chest? Do you want to engage in a growing Red Sox community? Comment on our content alongside staff and fans alike! It's certainly been an odd season, to say the least. For as much negativity as the Red Sox have gotten, they're actually above .500 on the road at 16-14. Kiner-Falefa certainly isn't wrong. Why Solet is likely to sign Udinese contract extension before joining Inter
Why Solet is likely to sign Udinese contract extension before joining InterThursday’s reports claim that Oumar Solet is getting close to securing a move to Serie A and Coppa Italia champions Inter this summer, but the Frenchman is expected to extend his contract with Udinese first. Here’s why.Why Solet could sign new Udinese contract before joining InterInter are hoping to add to their defensive unit this summer with Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian leaving at the end of their contracts, whilst Yann Bisseck could be sold amidst interest from Bayern Munich.Several centre-backs have been linked with a potential move to San Siro this summer, including Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic and Roma pair Gianluca Mancini and Evan Ndicka, but reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that a deal for Udinese’s Solet is edging ever closer.PARMA, ITALY – NOVEMBER 29: Oumar Solet of Udinese Calcio celebrates during the Serie A match between Parma Calcio 1913 and Udinese Calcio at Stadio Ennio Tardini on November 29, 2025 in Parma, Italy. (Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)The Frenchman is reportedly valued in the region of €25m given that he is heading into the final year of his contract, which is set to expire on June 30, 2027.According to recent updates, Udinese are open to the idea of sending Solet out on loan with an obligation to buy. But, this would require Solet signing a contract extension first as he would otherwise be out of contract next summer and could walk away on a free transfer.UDINE, ITALY – FEBRUARY 15: Oumar Solet of Udinese celebrates scoring his team’s first goal during the Serie A match between Udinese Calcio and US Sassuolo Calcio at Stadio Friuli on February 15, 2026 in Udine, Italy. (Photo by Timothy Rogers/Getty Images)This would allow Inter to bring Solet in for the 2026-27 season, but would also reserve their budget for signings in other areas, such as wing-back Marco Palestra, who is expected to cost around €50m from Atalanta. The benefit for Udinese is that they will still be able to recoup a decent transfer fee for a player who is otherwise at risk of running down his contract and leaving for free.

Ohio State legend Jack Nicklaus celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Memorial Tournament
DUBLIN, OHIO - JUNE 02: Jack Nicklaus, tournament host, speaks with the media, prior to the Memorial Tournament presentedy by Workday at Muirfield Village Golf Club on June 2, 2026 in Dublin, Ohio. (Photo by Ben Jared/PGA TOUR via Getty Images) Today the Memorial Tournament, which is hosted by former Ohio State Buckeye Jack Nicklaus, gets underway at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the tournament, and will feature the majority of the golfers currently in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Rankings. For many of the golfers teeing it up at Muirfield at Jack’s Place, it will be their final tune-up before the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in two weeks. The first Memorial Tournament took place in 1976, with Roger Maltbie defeating Hale Irwin in a playoff. The next year Jack Nicklaus would go on to win the tournament that he hosts. The second title for the Golden Bear came in 1984. Nicklaus is one of six golfers with two wins at the Memorial. Last year Scottie Scheffler had little trouble winning the tournament for a second straight year, beating Ben Griffin by four strokes. This year Scheffler will try and join Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Memorial in three straight years. Woods has won the Memorial five times during his career, which is the most of any golfer. When Woods won in 2012 he registered his 73rd PGA Tour victory, which tied Nicklaus for second-most at the time. If Scheffler is able to win this year, he will tie Kenny Perry for second-most wins at the Memorial, as Perry has won the event three times.Even though the Memorial Tournament isn’t one of the four major golf tournaments, it is one of five tournaments on tour which has been given invitational status. While most tournaments have over 150 golfers, this year’s edition of the Memorial will feature 72 golfers. The only golfer from the top-10 of the OGWR who won’t be competing in this year’s Memorial will be Collin Morikawa, who is currently ranked seventh. The tournament officially starts at 7:45 a.m. ET when Brian Campbell and Pierceson Coody tee off. Highlighting the morning wave of golfers are Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young, and Tommy Fleetwood. During the afternoon, all eyes will be on Scheffler and PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, who will be in the third-to-last group of the day. Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Åberg will tee off just before Scheffler and Rai.While there aren’t any Buckeyes in this year’s tournament field, a crowd favorite will likely be Jason Day. The Australian now makes his home in Westerville. The winner of the 2015 PGA Championship has won 13 times on the PGA Tour, but now hasn’t won on tour in over three years, with his last victory coming at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson. Even though there won’t be any Ohio State players in this year’s tournament, there were a couple Buckeyes who played in this year’s Golden Bear Pro-Am. Head coach Jake Diebler and former quarterback Bobby Hoying were part of the event on Wednesday. Diebler, Hoying and Ohio State deputy athletic director played the front nine with Brian Harman, and the back nine with Lucas Glover. The Memorial Tournament isn’t all about golf. The tournament helps a number of charitable initiatives, with the primary beneficiary being Nationwide Children’s Hospital. On Wednesday morning, eight Ohio State players, including quarterback Julian Sayin, held a clinic with this year’s Golden Cubs, which is a group of 10 current and former Nationwide Children’s Hospital patients. Each year there is an induction ceremony to honor past golfers. After Barbara Nicklaus was the lone honoree last year, this year David Graham and Allan Robertson will honored. Graham won on the PGA Tour eight times, including the 1980 Memorial Tournament, where he beat Tom Watson by a stroke. Robertson is a posthumous honoree, who was a golfer and ball-maker in Scotland in the 1800s.For those not attending this year’s tournament, coverage of the first and second rounds of this year’s Memorial can be seen on the Golf Channel, while CBS will take over this weekend and air the final two rounds of the tournament.

Companies behind gender reveal smoke bombs that caused forest fire agree to pay $4 million
Six years ago, a straight couple in California used a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” as part of a gender reveal party, which started a fire that burned 23,000 acres of land, destroyed 20 buildings, and killed at least one person. Now the companies that sold the device have agreed to pay $4 million to settle a lawsuit with the federal government. Related Mom sobs intensely as gender reveal shows she’s having another girl in viral video In September 2020, Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr. and Angela Renee Jimenez used a smoke bomb they bought from the Ohio-based Wholesale Fireworks Corp. and its subsidiary American Fireworks Wholesale LLC to announce the sex of their fetus. They ignited the device in a forest during “dry conditions and critical fire weather,” and the resulting El Dorado Fire ravaged San Bernardino County and lasted several months. Over 1,200 people, eight helicopters, and 120 fire engines were required to contain the fire. One firefighter – Charles Morton, 39 – lost his life. In 2024, the couple reached a plea deal with prosecutors where they agreed to pay nearly $1.8 million in restitution. Refugio Manuel Jimenez Jr. got one year in jail, two years of felony probation, and 200 hours of community service, while his wife had to serve one year of summary probation and complete 400 hours of community service. The Forest Service argued that the device is illegal in California and therefore shouldn’t have been sold there, and that the companies failed to provide adequate warnings that their smoke bombs could ignite wildfires. A third company, Pink or Blue Gender Team Inc., also agreed to pay $50,000. Wholesale Fireworks denies any culpability in the fire. “The Company has always maintained that it had no liability as to the events described in the litigation pleadings and has vigorously contested the allegations made as to the Company,” a lawyer for the company told Fox 8 News. Gender reveal parties rose in popularity over the last 20 years. Despite their name, they are actually used to announce the sex that will be assigned to a baby, not their gender, which won’t be known for several years. Devices like smoke bombs that release pink or blue smoke became popular as parents sought visually interesting ways to “reveal” their baby’s sex. In 2019, a grandmother in Iowa was killed when a pipe bomb created for a gender reveal party shot a piece of metal at her. Jenna Karvunidis, the woman who created the first gender-reveal party, has spent the last several years denouncing the practice. “I’m kind of horrified, going ‘Oh no, please don’t associate me with that,’” she said in an interview earlier this year. “I was really just trying to build a community for my baby,” she continued. “I wasn’t even trying to focus so much on the gender. I was just kind of using that as a hook to get everybody excited and to have something to reveal.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Leclerc turned down rival bids to stay with Ferrari and confident of success at Monaco GP
MONACO (AP) — Charles Leclerc said he turned down offers from other Formula 1 teams before signing a new multiyear deal with Ferrari, insisting it would mean more to win his first drivers' title with the Scuderia than anyone else. The fresh deal — announced ahead of his home Monaco Grand Prix taking place this weekend — extended the 28-year-old Leclerc's association with the storied team that began a decade ago, initially in its academy.Leclerc has yet to become champion after seven full seasons as an F1 driver so changing teams was an option in a bid to fulfill his dream, he told a news conference on Thursday — without saying who came in for him.“There were, yes,” he said of rival bids that were on the table. “I’m not going to say who — they can say it if they want. For me, Ferrari was always the choice.”Asked if he was given assurances by Ferrari about its future competitiveness, Leclerc said it was “part of all the discussions.”“But winning in red for me has got a very unique feeling,” Leclerc added, "and something that I’ve dedicated all the years.“We didn’t manage to achieve that yet, at least in a full season.”Mercedes has dominated the start of the F1 season, winning the first five races — the last four victories going to Kimi Antonelli. But Leclerc, who is third in the drivers' standings, believes that could change around the iconic twisty circuit in Monaco.“I mean, if there’s one track I will bet on on us, it’s probably Monaco,” said Leclerc, who won F1's most famous race in 2024.“However, I still believe that Mercedes have had a significant advantage since the beginning of the year. So I think they would be very, very strong.”___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

5 standouts from Day 5 of Chicago Bears OTAs
The Chicago Bears are wrapping up organized team activities this week ahead of veteran minicamp next week, and there's been a noticeable difference in Year 2 of the Ben Johnson era compared to this time last year. It's been a much smoother operation for those players returning for their second season in Johnson's offense and Dennis Allen's defense. With OTAs underway, there have been plenty of standouts, especially on the offensive side of the ball, where quarterback Caleb Williams continues to shine, the young playmakers are showing out and one rookie continues to make headlines. Following Wednesday's open practice, here are five standouts on offense, who should be integral to the success of the team in 2026.1. WR Luther Burden IIISecond-year wide receiver Luther Burden III is primed for a breakout year in 2026, and he continues to make plays during the offseason program. According to Clay Harbor, Burden "made a couple plays in tight coverage and continues to show up when he gets opportunities." Burden was also on the receiving end of quarterback Caleb Williams' best throw of the day, per Herb Howard. "With Jaylon Johnson tight in coverage, Caleb led Luther on the Crosser, allowing the speedy receiver to catch the ball in stride and continue to run after the catch."2. WR Zavion ThomasThird-round rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas has consistently been making plays during the offseason program, and it's not often he hasn't been mentioned among practice takeaways. According to Clay Harbor, Thomas made a couple of plays, where his speed was likely on display, and he's making a strong case as a rookie. Wrote Harbor: "It’s an uphill battle with Kalif Raymond and Jahdae Walker in that WR/returner competition, but he’s quick and had a nice catch today." According to Mark Carman, Thomas had the "catch of the day" from quarterback Tyson Bagent. "Impressive hands on out route where he was fighting to get open."3. QB Caleb WilliamsQuarterback Caleb Williams was the talk of the town after he was revealed as the Madden 27 cover athlete, and he backed it up with another "solid" practice, according to Clay Harbor. "Arm strength looks as good as always. The ball still jumps off his hand." Williams' best throw of the day was "an absolute dart across the middle" to receiver Luther Burden, according to Herb Howard, where "with Jaylon Johnson tight in coverage, Caleb led Luther on the Crosser, allowing the speedy receiver to catch the ball in stride and continue to run after the catch."4. TE Colston LovelandIt was an overall great day for all the tight ends, but it was second-year pro Colston Loveland who was the biggest standout of the group. According to Clay Harbor, Loveland looked "smooth" and "had a couple nice plays and looks noticeably bigger. Easy movement for his size." Loveland is coming off a breakout rookie season, where he led the Bears in receiving, and he's primed to serve an even bigger role in Year 2. Harbor also noted Cole Kmet and rookie Sam Roush both had "solid" days.5. WR Jahdae WalkerThe Bears have a loaded receiver room led by Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Kalif Raymond and rookie Zavion Thomas, but last year's undrafted rookie standout Jahdae Walker is looking to prove he deserves a bigger role in Year 2. Walker was one of the offensive standouts on Day 5, where Clay Harbor said he "flashed" during Wednesday's practice. "Made a couple nice grabs, looked quick, confident, and natural catching the football." There are a lot of mouths to feed on this Chicago offense, so making standout plays at this point of the offseason should only help Walker make an impression. This article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears OTAs: Day 5 standouts include Luther Burden, Colston Loveland

A 'big hole to fill' if Elphick and Cooper leave
Former Bournemouth midfielder and development team coach Mark Moseley believes it would be a "huge blow" if Andoni Iraola takes assistants Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper with him to Liverpool. Both coaches have played a key role in the Cherries' progress in recent times, with the club achieving their best-ever top-flight finish this season and will play Europa League football next term.Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Moseley said: "It would be a huge blow for Bournemouth. Iraola is the front of it all, but there's so many good people behind it. "I know Tommy and Coops well and what fantastic characters they are, but also what fantastic coaches they are. They've had a very, very big impact in the success at Bournemouth and I would think that Iraola would want to keep that together. They're trusted members, have proved themselves time and time again this season and what valuable roles they have."If they do go, and it's all speculation at the moment, what I can say is the way Bournemouth have recruited, look at some of the players that have left this football club this year and the show has managed to go on due to their due diligence. They're always a step ahead and ready for this sort of thing. "A new manager is coming in, he'll have his ideas and everything has been working very well, so you'd like to think he'd like to have some continuity and try and refine and enhance, or make his own twist on it. But you don't want too many changes. If Iraola does take his trusted staff with him, there will be a big hole to fill."Listen to the full interview by pressing play above or on BBC SoundsFind more Bournemouth content here

FSU projected to land blue-chip RB out of Louisiana
The Florida State are pounding the pavement in an effort to bolster their 2027 recruiting class. Last weekend, four-star running back Jayden Miles was on campus for an official visit. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder has been a top priority for the Seminoles, and his latest trip to Tallahassee has shaken up things in his recruitment. He's still scheduled to visit the Ohio State Buckeyes this weekend, but he will no longer be taking official visits with the LSU Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats.According to Sam Spiegelman of Rivals, FSU has ascended immensely when it comes to Miles. He has updated his RMP forecast in favor of Florida State landing the Baton Rouge Catholic High School star. Of course, everything will depend on what Ohio State does in their final attempt to persuade Miles, but this is very encouraging news for the Seminoles as they look to secure their first running back pledge in 2027.Recent quarterback commit, three-star Logan Flaherty, mentioned earlier this week that he'd be visiting FSU throughout the summer to help with recruiting. He was also on campus last weekend when Miles was there, and he has been in contact with him about committing to Florida State. Apparently, he's doing a great job in that respect.Miles has set his commitment date for July 4. They can't let up this close to the finish line. In fact, they need to dig in even more to get him to commit. He is the No. 371 overall recruit and the nation's No. 27 running back per Rivals' industry rankings. In the state of Louisiana, Miles is the No. 13 prospect.Contact/Follow us @FSUWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida State news, notes and opinions. PSG rule out a move for Lokomotiv’s Aleksey Batrakov
PSG rule out a move for Lokomotiv’s Aleksey BatrakovHaving been rumoured to be on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain for several weeks, Aleksey Batrakov (20) is now unlikely to sign for the reigning double European champions, according to reports in Le Parisien.A key player in Mikhail Galaktionov’s system, the Russian has been decisive on 24 occasions (12 goals and 12 assists) in the 36 matches across all competitions, including 33 starts, that he has played for the Moscow club this season.Although he had been scouted by Luis Campos on several occasions, the Lokomotiv Moscow attacking midfielder ultimately failed to convince the PSG sporting director to press ahead with the deal, with the latter opting for other options in an attempt to strengthen Luis Enrique’s squad. This is a major blow for Batrakov’s agent, who, just a few weeks ago, had expressed confidence in the deal, estimating his client’s chances of moving to France this summer at “95%”.GFFN | Léo Aschi

Cowboys have two of Top-10 all-time NFL blockbuster trades, including No. 1
The start of the work week combined with the start of a new month may have put something in the air this past Monday. June 1 is a big deal around the NFL regardless of what day it falls on, but this year had a special sense of newness, as two blockbuster trades took place. One had been rumored for months, with the Philadelphia Eagles finally sending WR AJ Brown to the New England Patriots. The rumors of why he was disgruntled in Philly leaking out were tawdry and salacious, but the actual trade didn't surprise anyone. It was shocking, however, that the Cleveland Browns traded two-time and reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Super Bowl or Bust LA Rams. That one rattled a few cages, even as the salary contract move the Browns pulled off in early spring indicated they were willing to listen to worthwhile offers.Garrett's move to LA, in exchange for Jared Verse (two Pro Bowls in his first two seasons), and first, second and third-round picks in consecutive drafts, certainly ranks as a blockbuster trade. But where does it rank in the pantheon of blockbuster NFL trades?Bleacher Report's Christopher Knox recently took a stab at ranking all-time NFL trades, and the Dallas Cowboys found themselves taking up not just two spaces, but the top spot in the entire ranking.6. Dallas Cowboys Trade Micah Parsons to Green Bay PackersPackers Received: Edge Micah ParsonsCowboys Received: 2026 1st-round pick, 2027 1st-round pick, DT Kenny ClarkIf not for the Garrett trade, the Micah Parsons deal from 2025 might stand as the biggest blockbuster involving a pass rusher in NFL history. At the time, Parsons was seeking a contract extension, and the Cowboys were taking their time to give it to him. The then-26-year-old had certainly earned it, with four Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro nods in four seasons. We still have to see how this trade plays out for the Cowboys and the Packers, but it already stands as one of the biggest blockbusters in recent memory.1. Dallas Cowboys Trade Herschel Walker to Minnesota VikingsVikings Received: RB Herschel Walker, 1990 3rd-round pick, 1990 5th-round pick (via Chargers), 1990 10th-round pick, 1991 3rd-round pickCowboys Received: 1990 1st-, 2nd- and 6th-round picks, 1991 1st- and 2nd-round picks, 1992 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-round picksWhen it comes to NFL blockbusters, there have been none bigger or more impactful than the Cowboys' 1989 agreement that sent Herschel Walker to the Minnesota Vikings. As everyone now knows, the deal was a bust for Minnesota. However, it helped jump-start a Dallas dynasty. The end result was a bevy of high draft picks that became stars like running back Emmitt Smith, cornerback Kevin Smith and safety Darren Woodson. The Cowboys went on to win three Super Bowls in the early 1990s, a run for which this trade served as a catalyst. This article originally appeared on Cowboys Wire: Cowboys trades of Parsons, Walker, both rank Top 10 NFL blockbusters

Kai Havertz discusses Germany striker competition with Undav and Woltemade
Kai Havertz discusses Germany striker competition with Undav and WoltemadeHaving linked up with the German national team after scoring in Arsenal’s Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Kai Havertz is expected to get the nod up front for Julian Nagelsmann’s side at the World Cup.However, competition is fierce from VfB Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav, who recently scored a brace in a 4-0 friendly win over Finland, and Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade, who has also previously proven his worth for Germany. In an interview published on the German Football Association’s website, Havertz reflected on the battle for the striker spot.“Deniz’s statistics speak for themselves – he has played an outstanding season with Stuttgart. He is an established part of the national team, and he and all the players know that. No one fears anyone here. We have to function as a team. Everyone has to be there when needed. There is no big battle here; everyone is there for each other. That is the most important thing,” Havertz said, adding:“All three strikers like having the ball at their feet and want to help get it into the box. Each has different strengths. Deniz has a good instinct in the box and a strong scoring rate, and he often finds the right positions. Nick is also technically excellent on the ball and, with his size, brings a certain presence in the box. I am something in between. We have different profiles, but all the same goal. We support each other and there will be no drama. We are here together and our shared goal is to go far.”Havertz could start up front when Germany face the United States in their last warm-up friendly ahead of the World Cup on Saturday.

James Worthy says Lakers need a prominent center to win NBA title
The Los Angeles Lakers' No. 1 priority this summer in terms of roster upgrades could be an upgrade at the center position. At times this season, Denadre Ayton played well enough, but he is largely seen as a big disappointment by Lakers fans and people around the league, and Jaxson Hayes, L.A.'s backup center, is very limited on both ends of the floor.James Worthy, a Hall of Fame forward who spent all 12 of his seasons with the Lakers and won three NBA championships with them, made an appearance on the "Road Trippin'" podcast ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. He said that the Lakers need a prominent and possibly a superstar big man to win it all (h/t Lakers Daily).“Unless we get a killer big,” Worthy said when asked if Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves can lead the Lakers back to the promised land.Former NBA center and current ESPN personality asked Worthy if Daniel Gafford could be that man, and Worthy said L.A. needs to aim a lot bigger.“No, we need a Giannis,” Worthy said. “We need a superstar. We gotta have it. But in order to get that, I don’t know if we can keep Austin.”However, the 1988 NBA Finals MVP said that he would settle for a quality big man who is big and physical.“I would take just not a top-notch center, but something like a [Isaiah] Hartenstein,” he said. “I’d take somebody who’s a Perkins, somebody that can come in there and slap people around.”The sentiment around the league right now is that Victor Wembanyama is going to be a constant terror for the next decade-plus, whether the San Antonio Spurs defeat the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals this year. Some feel Los Angeles needs a legitimate scoring threat at the 5 to neutralize Wembanyama, while others feel the team can get the job done with a genuine defensive-minded center, a strong, deep roster and the right defensive and offensive schemes.Ayton averaged 12.5 points on 67.1% shooting and eight rebounds a game during the regular season. He displayed excellent rebounding and defense in L.A.'s first-round playoff victory over the Houston Rockets, but his production significantly dipped in the next round versus the Oklahoma City Thunder. The seven-footer has an $8.1 million player option for next season. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: James Worthy says Lakers need a prominent center to win NBA title

Koi Perich among most important non-QBs in 2026, per ESPN
It's not hard to argue that the Oregon Ducks have one of, if not the single most important player in the nation, going into the 2026 college football season. Under center, quarterback Dante Moore enters the year as one of the top signal callers and is a real threat to win the Heisman Trophy and be selected as the No. 1 overall draft pick next spring. If Moore has a great year, then you can figure that the Ducks will have a great year and be in the mix for a national championship when all is said and done. Away from the QB position, though, Oregon is also home to one of the nation's most important non-passers, according to ESPN. Minnesota transfer safety Koi Perich figures to be a major difference-maker in Eugene this season, and what he can bring to the Ducks' defensive secondary and special teams will be a determining factor in how far they go this year. "Perich has shown in his first two college seasons that he can impact games in multiple ways, and he now joins an Oregon team seeking its first national title," ESPN's Adam Rittenburg writes. "Although Perich's numbers in 2025 didn't pop as much as they did the previous year -- he had five interceptions at Minnesota and became the first FBS freshman since 1976 to record 100 or more punt return yards, 100 or more kick return yards and five interceptions in a season -- he still produced at safety and returner, while moonlighting at times with the Gophers' offense."The Ducks have had success bringing in this type of player, with the latest being Dillon Thieneman, who came to Oregon from the Purdue Boilermakers, where he was a highly-touted young player with a bit of intrigue surrounding his game. After one year with the Ducks, he further blossomed into an eventual first-round NFL draft pick this past spring."They're similar with the amount of football they've played, how much they love football, and what it means to them," Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. "You know, what the drill looks like, how intense they are, the time put in. But there's a different skill set for both those guys."If the Ducks are going to reach the heights that they hope for in 2026, a large part of it will be on Perich in the secondary stepping up and being an All-American-caliber player. If he can do that, then Oregon should be in great shape. Red Sox promote third player from Caleb Durbin trade; ‘Very good eye at the plate’
BOSTON — All three players who the Red Sox acquired from the Brewers in the Caleb Durbin trade on Feb. 9 are now on the active 26-man roster.Boston recalled infielder Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday to take injured Nick Sogard’s spot. Boston placed Sogard on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.Durbin was the centerpiece player that Boston received in the six-player trade. The Sox also acquired Seigler and infielder Andruw Monasterio, who has been on the active roster all season.BETTING: Red Sox moneyline is listed at -112 on FanDuel for Thursday’s divisional showdown versus the Orioles. Our comprehensive FanDuel Sportsbook review provides a helpful guide on how to navigate their app. Boston traded Kyle Harrison, David Hamilton and Shane Drohan to the Brewers. Harrison has been the best overall player from the trade so far. He’s 7-1 with a 1.57 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 73 strikeouts in 11 starts for Milwaukee. Seigler, 26, was batting .298 with a .425 on-base percentage, .471 slugging percentage, .896 OPS, three home runs, one triple and seven doubles in 30 games (127 plate appearances) for Worcester.“He swung the bat very well, particularly against right-handed pitching,” interim manager Chad Tracy said. “(Seigler) can help us off the bench as a left-handed bat. You guys know we get pretty right-handed with left-handed pitchers on the mound and when they switch and we have that option.” Seigler — who played second and third base for Worcester — had more walks (22) than strikeouts (19) for the WooSox.“Very good eye at the plate, takes his walks and does damage against right-handed pitching,” Tracy said. “So he’ll give us some help with an extra left-hand bat off the bench.”Seigler did not appear in any spring training games and began the season on the IL with left knee patellar tendinopathy.“Obviously, I had a slower start coming back from a knee (injury),” Seigler said. “Didn’t have a spring training. So April was kind of my spring training a little bit. But then toward the end of April, beginning of May and the rest of May, was able to get in there a little bit more and get more at-bats, seeing more pitching. Get more time on defense.”This marks Seigler’s first time at Fenway Park. The Yankees’ 2018 first-round pick has appeared in 34 major league games, all last season with Milwaukee.“Obviously, a lot of history here,” Seigler said. “A lot of great players here previously and right now. So just being able to be in this locker room and then being able to go out on the field is exciting.”More Red Sox coverageRed Sox add veteran reliever with 456 appearances to bullpenMLB trade rumors: Red Sox ‘in the driver’s seat’ to control one portion of marketThe freakish baseball talent Patriots WR A.J. Manchester City chairman issues Pep Guardiola successor update amid Enzo Maresa talks with ChelseaMan City chairman insists the club have been thoughtful & structured in new manager searchAl Mubarak asks fans to “be patient” and promises an announcement “very soon”Compensation talks with Chelsea for Enzo Maresca remain primary obstacle to announcementManchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has urged supporters to be patient as the club finalises the appointment of Pep Guardiola’s successor. The statement comes as compensation talks between City and Chelsea over Enzo Maresca – who has been identified by officials at the Etihad Stadium as the club’s next manager – continue, with the matter currently in the hands of lawyers at both clubs and a formal public announcement still pending.Maresca departed Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day with three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract and Chelsea are understood to be seeking a sizeable fee despite the Italian having not claimed severance upon his resignation.Revealed: How Enzo Maresca compensation talks with Chelsea impact Man City announcementMaresca is understood to have been chosen by Manchester City with Pep Guardiola‘s personal backing and has been offered a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, with the outgoing manager’s endorsement having played a significant role in the decision-making process.Al Mubarak: Be patient, we’ll bring the right managerSpeaking in his customary end-of-season interview with the club’s in-house media team, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak issued an update on the club’s pursuit of a potent replacement for Guardiola.“What I can say at the moment is we’ve gone through a very thoughtful and structured process and the team is convinced, I am convinced, that we’ll bring the right manager for this club,” Al Mubarak said.“Just be patient with us. Very soon we’ll announce it and you’ll be very comfortable we’ve selected and brought in the best manager possible for this club.”What is the wider context for City’s managerial appointment?Guardiola spoke at length in his farewell appearances about the message he had for his successor, urging them to “be yourself” and promising unconditional support from a club he described as extraordinary in the way it cares for its people. His personal backing of Maresca suggests the 55-year-old played an active role in shaping the direction of the search – an appointment as important as any the club have made under their Abu Dhabi ownership – given the standards set by Guardiola during his illustrious decade in Manchester.Revealed: Chelsea and Manchester City locked in talks over Enzo MarescaDirector of football Hugo Viana has already been in preliminary contact with Maresca over pre-season and transfer planning, with the summer window opening on June 15 placing increasing urgency on both clubs to resolve the compensation dispute.City’s confidence that an agreement will be reached imminently remains high and Al Mubarak’s public message on Wednesday reinforces that nothing about the decision itself is in doubt. The only remaining question is when the paperwork gets done.

Iran footballers describe how war with US-Israel affects their World Cup
Iran is heading to the World Cup while the country is at war with a host nation, a situation that is unique in the tournament’s history. The United States-Israel war on Iran began on February 28, and there has been an uneasy ceasefire in place since April 8, but the uncertainty – and occasional flare-up in hostilities – means an end to the conflict is far from certain. For the Iranian players and staff, the situation has thrown their World Cup preparations into chaos – all of their matches are scheduled to be played in the US.The Iran team has spent more than two weeks in Turkiye, mostly practising at the coastal resort Antalya, and some travelled to the capital, Ankara, to submit visa applications at the US embassy. The team’s participation in the event in the US, Canada and Mexico has long been in doubt and, with the visa situation still up in the air, nothing can yet be fully guaranteed.“Well, to be honest, it’s not easy,” said Saeid Ezatolahi, a 29-year-old midfielder who also played for Iran in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.“This is going to be my third World Cup. So for me and some of the other players, it might be easier to manage these kinds of things,” he told The Associated Press news agency in English on the sidelines of a training session on Wednesday.“But at the end … it is going to be difficult for us because, at the same time, we are following the news in our country and the political things, of course, can affect the mind of the players and the people.”The team is set to travel to Mexico this weekend after receiving visas from the Mexican embassy in Ankara. The team said Thursday that the process of obtaining entry permits had been finalised for all members of the squad.Problems with visa processing meant Iran’s World Cup training base was moved from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, on Mexico’s border with California.Iran will play its first two games near Los Angeles, which has a large Iranian community, many of whom oppose the current government.“So for sure, we are expecting to have a lot of fans during our games at the stadium,” Ezatolahi said. “And this is going to be a lot of pressure for us because the expectation is going to be high. I just wish we can make them proud and show them that Iranians, they are prepared for every hard job in the world,” he said.Iran’s players work out during a training session in Antalya, southern Turkiye [Khalil Hamra/AP]Mohammad Ghorbani, 24, is going to his first World Cup for Iran.“It’s true that we are facing special circumstances right now, but we are football players, and we have to play, practise, and prepare ourselves for the competitions we have ahead,” the Abu Dhabi-based player said in Farsi.“On the other hand, we know that our people have been going through a lot of difficulties throughout the war, and we are going there for them, to get the best results for their joy and the joy of the people of our country.”The US and Israel killed Iran’s supreme leader and other top officials in their initial attacks. Iran responded with strikes targeting Israel, US forces and the Gulf Arab states. It also has maintained a chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Gulf, imperilling global energy supplies.Despite the nominal ceasefire, Iran and the US have yet to negotiate a permanent end to the war, and attacks continue in the region.Iran is in Group G with New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt and Iran’s team is not required to enter the US until June 14, one day before its first match against New Zealand at the Los Angeles Rams’ stadium in Inglewood.Iran returns to Inglewood to face Belgium on June 21 and completes Group G in Seattle, against Egypt on June 26.“I’m really proud to be part of my national team,” said Ezatolahi, whose career has taken him to play for clubs in Spain, Russia, England, Belgium, Denmark, Qatar and now Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.“We need to clear up our minds and be fresh because our target and our duty is to fight for our people, to represent our country and to show how good we are,” he said.Ghorbani agreed, saying the team wants to bring joy to Iranians.“The best message I can give right now is that the Iranian team is showing what it means to be a team,” he said. “We are showing that we are one team under one flag that can bring joy to our whole country, and to show the power of Iranian players and Iranian people to the world.”The FIFA World Cup begins on June 11. World Cup 2026: Which young stars are poised to see their card markets surge?
The FIFA World Cup is just days away, with 48 nations vying for soccer’s biggest prize. Each team has a mix of veterans and young stars, players who have been slowly making a name for themselves on and off the pitch.Over the course of the next month, some players will make so much noise that collectors will take notice and we’ll see their soccer cards spike in value. Here’s a look at six young soccer stars you might want to keep an eye on.ARCHIVO - Lamine Yamal de España (derecha) anota el tercer gol de su equipo durante el partido de vuelta de los cuartos de final de la Liga de Naciones de la UEFA entre los Países Bajos y España en el estadio de Mestalla en Valencia, España, el domingo 23 de marzo de 2025. (Foto de archivo de AP/Alberto Saiz)AP Photo/Alberto SaizLamine Yamal: The Spanish star is one player you should already know. At just 18 years old, he is one of the game’s brightest young stars and has gained attention with his flashy moves. He’s also had several cards sell for six figures. He’s not an unknown, but he’s a player you do not want to forget about — and you probably won’t once you see him play.Endrick: Endrick is part of a long line of Brazilian soccer stars who go by just their first name. The 19-year-old striker is still finding his footing and is coming off a strong campaign with Lyon, but collectors have already had their eyes on Endrick. On Sunday, in a 4-1 Germany win over Finland in a friendly, Karl became the youngest player since records began being kept in 2005 to contribute to a German national team goal with an assist. His cards have started to gain value in recent weeks, with a 2025-26 Topps UEFA Club Competitions Foilfractor Autograph 1-of-1 selling for $140,000 in March.Nico Paz: Paz is one of the most exciting players out of Argentina, but the 21-year-old may miss the World Cup due to injury. He scored 12 goals for Como this season in league play. If healthy, he’s a player whose card values could benefit from a strong World Cup showing. His highest-selling card, a 2023-24 Select La Liga Mezzanine Black 1-of-1, sold for $5,880 in November.MIAMI, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES - JUNE 3: Arda Guler of Turkiye train as preparations begin for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. He made headlines with a record-tying 74-yard goal in La Liga. Güler earned the Champions League Revelation of the Season award. His cards haven’t commanded big prices yet, but a strong World Cup showing could change that, especially with Turkey in the same group as the United States. He’s bound to get plenty of airtime.

New York Giants' Ben Sauls struggles following Jason Sanders release
Is the New York Giants' kicker competition for real this summer, or is it rookie Dominic Zvada's to lose? That is the question on the minds of Giants fans this week after the team parted ways with veteran Jason Sanders and their other experienced kicker, Ben Sauls, turned in a clunker of a performance on Wednesday at OTAs.On the first day after veteran kicker Jason Sanders got cut, Ben Sauls just went 4-for-10 on field goals ranging from 33-47 yards. Some really ugly misses in fine conditions.— Dan Duggan (@DDuggan21) June 3, 2026Meanwhile, Zvada, an undrafted free agent out of Michigan, made all of 13 attempts at Tuesday's workout, with a long of 47 yards. His strong leg is legendary at the college level, and the Giants are rolling the dice that he can return to his 2024 form when he was a first-team All-American, kicking four field goals of over 50 yards.Zvada is a player who is on several experts' preseason radar as a rookie to watch. As for Sanders, head coach John Harbaugh told reporters that the team could possibly circle back to Sanders, but he was claimed by the Jets on Wednesday afternoon. "We'll see what happens. I think he'll probably get picked up pretty quickly," said Harbaugh before the news of the Jets inking Sanders, but then let the real reason why Sanders was let go to begin with. "This is one of those environments; it's windy out here, it always has been. It's a tough environment to kick in. His style might not be a perfect fit for here, really right now.""It gives us an opportunity to give these other guys a few more reps. I think Jason, he's still on our radar, but we'll see what happens."Not anymore. If Zvada can master the North Jersey cold and wind, the job's his. Alemanno ready for emotional Gloucester farewell
Matias Alemanno made his Gloucester debut against Harlequins in 2020 [Getty Images]Matias Alemanno made his Gloucester debut in 2020, but had fallen in love with the city some five years earlier.Eleven years on, the Argentine international lock is now ready to close the chapter on a romance that is set to end with a 100th Cherry and White appearance this weekend.Speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, Alemanno explained that he was immediately hooked by the Kingsholm atmosphere."In 2015 I played in the Rugby World Cup in England, and we played one game here against Georgia at Kingsholm," he said. "The crowd was so good and everyone said that when Gloucester play here the atmosphere is the same."When Skiv [George Skivington] called me up and asked me to come here, I said yes straightaway."I knew the history of the club and everyone made me feel at home straightaway."Not that there were many able to witness the lock's debut, played behind closed doors against Harlequins because of the Covid pandemic. When fans were allowed back in, the atmosphere that Alemanno had experienced in 2015 was stronger than ever."It was full and I said 'Wow, this city loves rugby'," he said. "Running past The Shed has become one of my favourite memories of my time here; I am going to be emotional when I do that last run past in the warm-up."I have always loved running back into the changing rooms, particularly after a win, to sing songs and celebrate with the boys. Everyone at this club will always have a special place in my heart."From on-pitch family to off-pitch family, the 34-year-old really has seen his life change while in the south-west.He explained: "My wife and I came here in 2020, just the two of us, and now we leave with two children. One of my kids has a Gloucester accent! He came to me the other day and said that he doesn't want to leave."It was a tough decision to make, and there are mixed emotions going into Saturday, but I will try and focus on the game and then celebrate with my family and friends after."Victory at home to Newcastle in their Prem Rugby finale would secure Champions Cup rugby at Kingsholm next season, and could even lead to Alemanno making an appearance in the opposition XV against Skivington's side in the future."My journey will continue in France, but I cannot say which club as it has not been announced yet," he said."It was a tough decision but me and my family are ready for the next challenge."

Diamondbacks linked to Red Sox 127 ERA+ veteran reliever as trade target
Diamondbacks linked to Red Sox 127 ERA+ veteran reliever as trade target originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a competitive team in the National League and currently sit a half-game back of the third and final Wild Card spot. It was just three seasons ago when the D-Backs advanced all the way to the World Series as a Wild Card team. On offense, Arizona is led by All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte and speedy outfielder Corbin Carroll. ESPN's Jeff Passan wrote Thursday that the pitching staff could use an addition to the bullpen, specifically a pitcher who is capable of racking up strikeouts. Passan tabbed a veteran from the Boston Red Sox as a good fit for the D-Backs. "Any of the three [A.J. Puk, Justin Martinez, Corbin Burnes] would provide an immediate boost to a pitching staff that could use some punchouts," Passan wrote. "Which is why [Garrett] Whitlock makes the most sense for them: He can close if need be or, at very least, help form a committee with Puk. If the Diamondbacks would prefer a little more left-handedness, [Aroldis] Chapman works, too." Whitlock's versatility is what could make him a valuable asset for the D-Backs. In 19.2 innings in 2026, the right-hander averages 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings while having allowed just seven earned runs. NFL Writer Names Five Defenses Ahead Of Patriots' After Offseason Moves
NFL Writer Names Five Defenses Ahead Of Patriots' After Offseason Moves originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New England Patriots had a busy offseason, but so did many other contenders. One of the biggest moves of the offseason came on June 1, when the Los Angeles Rams acquired Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. The old saying is "defense wins championships," and that move certainly helps the Rams build a championship defense. The Patriots' defense is also elite, but Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport thinks they are just the sixth-best in the league after offseason moves.Davenport listed the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Rams and Houston Texans ahead of the Patriots. The Patriots' defense was good enough to win the AFC last season, but they did see some changes in the offseason. The Patriots lost Khyiris Tonga and K'Lavon Chaisson. However, they did sign Dre'Mont Jones and Kevin Byard. The star of their defense is still Christian Gonzalez, who will look to build on another great season."The defensive backfield is loaded. Christian Gonzalez is one of the NFL's best young cornerbacks," wrote Davenport. "Veteran Carlton Davis III has eight NFL seasons and 105 career starts under his belt who won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Pats also added a first-team All-Pro safety in free agency in Kevin Byard III, who has led the league in interceptions twice—including last year. Front to back, there are far more strengths than weaknesses on the New England defense in 2026."The Patriots' defense figures to once again be elite, but it's hard to rank them ahead of any of the defenses Davenport has ahead of them. It can be argued that the Eagles are not as good as the Patriots, but the Rams, Texans, Seahawks and Broncos are clearly the four best defenses in football.More NFL: Insider Teases Stefon Diggs Could Sign With Patriots On Thursday

Tim Kaine tells trans kids to ignore hateful GOP Senators: You are “worthy of love as you are”
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) shared moving words in support of trans youth during a Senate hearing on gender-affirming care on Wednesday. “If you’re a trans kid watching this hearing, if you have friends who are trans kids, if you have family who are trans kids, if you’re not trans but you’re grappling [with the fact that your] body’s changing… There is some intentional effort to make you feel bad about yourself,” the former vice presidential candidate stated. Related “She loves me for me”: This small town trans man proposed to his wife at an Easter egg hunt “But you got a lot of people who love you. You got a lot of people who support you. You probably have more people who love and support you than you know.” He also told the youth that their parents may be more understanding than they think, but that if their parents really can’t understand, there is another trusted adult out there who can. A 2026 study found that trans youth who get HRT are less suicidal. A 2025 study found that gender-affirming medical care has positive effects on the mental health and psychosocial functioning of trans youth. A 2024 study found that 97% of trans youth didn’t regret transitioning, even a decade after receiving such care, and another study that same year found that only 1% of trans teens detransition. Watch These Judges Rip Into Lawyers For Citing Cases That Don't Exist
In the last few years, we’ve heard case after case where attorneys used generative AI and were caught including fake citations, quotes, and other major errors in their filings. This generally plays out in dockets, where their opponents or judges spot them and, in the polite language of the courts, scold them for wasting everyone’s time and being a disgrace to the legal profession. Sometimes, this results in serious sanctions. But it's always entertaining to read.In an appeal hearing last month, a court’s live stream captured this happening on camera in real time, with an attorney caught for likely using AI-fabricated citations. On May 20, in the Supreme Court of the State of New York Appellate Division, Justices Valerie Brathwaite Nelson and Hector LaSalle reamed out that lawyer and his opposing counsel for more than 20 minutes, calling the situation “striking, concerning, disappointing, and saddening.”The plaintiff in the case, Judith Landberg, is suing the city of New York after she tripped on some askew bricks on the sidewalk that were pushed up by tree roots. In that hearing, her lawyer, Michael Sanders, was attempting to argue the definition of a sidewalk. The full video is here, and the portion about fake citations begins a little after the 19 minute mark.“In preparing for this oral argument and reviewing the brief of appellant, it came to the attention of the court that the brief submitted by plaintiffs cites at least three cases that appeared to be fictitious,” Nelson said. “None of these cases, nor the quoted language, appears to exist.” Not only did Sanders cite cases that don’t exist, Nelson said, he cited 10 other cases that appear to misrepresent the law. “How do you respond?” Nelson asked. 0:00 /2:48 1× Sanders instantly started digging a hole, saying that he wasn’t prepared to speak on those specific citations. Nelson promptly cut him off. “Before you go any further,” she said, “let me point out to you that Rule 3.3 A of the rules of professional conduct indicates that a lawyer shall not knowingly make a false statement of fact or law to a tribunal, or fail to correct a false statement of material fact or law previously made to the tribunal by the lawyer.”He stammered. “If there's any citations that are incorrect, my deepest apologies,” he said.“Where did you get them from?” LaSalle asked.“I don't know what these cases were specifically,” Sanders said.LaSalle and Nelson grilled Sanders for several more minutes about the citations and where he got them. The judges didn’t bring up generative AI specifically, but considering the growing epidemic of lawyers including fake citations while using AI to draft arguments and appeals, it’s almost certainly what they’re alluding to. Attorneys caught using AI in other cases have blamed everything from head colds to being in a rush, to paralegals. Judges, in general, seem sick of it.“Just so you know, because I don't want you to dig a bigger hole here, you're citing principles that don't exist,” LaSalle said. “Let me tell you something. We saw this last week. I was hopeful that, in preparation for today, that you were going to read this and say, 'Oops, we made a mistake, Judge.’ It happens sometimes, right? That's what I was hoping for. We didn't get that. Should we give you some time right now to go look these cases up?” Sanders replied that it would probably take longer than 15 minutes. They went back and forth, with LaSalle and Nelson taking turns trying to impress upon Sanders that this is very, very bad.Ross Friscia, the attorney representing the owner of the property that faces the sidewalk, stood up before the judges next. He started to speak, but LaSalle wasn’t finished with the dressing-down. “He’s raising a court of appeal standard that doesn’t exist,” LaSalle said, interrupting Friscia. “He was using it as a component of his argument, and you didn't think you should bring it to our attention?”“I didn't notice in particular that the principle of law that he was citing was incorrect,” Friscia said. “I'm sorry, I'm going to give you every opportunity to make your argument,” LaSalle said. “But I'm befuddled. I honestly am. I'm absolutely—and I'm not here to—lawyers make mistakes. It's not an easy profession. I don’t want to sit here beating up on lawyers, but we rely on the bar so much in what we do. So the first thing that I did, I don't want to speak for my colleagues, but after seeing what he wrote, when I went to your papers, I expected to see something referencing [...] It wasn't one case, counsel, it was several cases, and you didn't see fit to bring it to our attention either. It's just striking to me.” Friscia, now with the fear of the bar in him, apologized profusely. “Your honor, I apologize to the court. I will do further due diligence going forward from this point on.”“I hope so,” LaSalle said. “You should apologize to your client, not to me.”“Yes, I apologize for that,” Friscia said. “And I will, going forward, check every single case, even if it stands for, you know, general principles of law, like the construed liberally to effectuate remedial purpose, and things like that. I will bring them to the court’s attention.”At this, Nelson jumped in: “The misrepresentations here are of such a degree that they could not merely reflect a difference of opinion,” she said. “As an appellate court attorney, you would have to, if you were doing the work and reading the briefs and responding to the briefs, you would have to notice that something in the wording of the main brief for the appellant was wrong, if not many things being wrong. It's concerning because we are all officers of the court, and there is a responsibility that you also have to notify the court to do the work, notify the court when these types of misrepresentations and fictitious cases and fictitious citations and misrepresenting the holding of a court of appeals case. I could go on and on, but if you read the brief and looked at the cases, you would have realized it was your responsibility also to alert the court.” Friscia said he tailors briefs to respond to specific issues but didn’t keep explaining himself for long; he apologized again, repeated that he’d be more thorough next time, made his point about the city being responsible for the askew bricks, and sat down. Subscribe Join the newsletter to get the latest updates. Success Great! Check your inbox and click the link. Error Please enter a valid email address. Next up was Elizabeth Freedman, an attorney representing the City of New York. She got the same questioning from Nelson: “So, how do you explain your failure to bring to the attention of this court that a brief was filed with this court by appellant's counsel with apparent fabrications and misrepresentations?”Freedman tried to explain. “I certainly read the briefs,” she said. “I certainly read all of the briefs here, but I certainly didn't focus on it, because it was not our issue. And I do apologize to the court for not catching that, but I tended to focus more on the issue of prior written notice.”When Freedman finished, all of the attorneys stood up and attempted to leave quickly. “Don’t go anywhere yet,” LaSalle said. “Have a seat. I just want to say this to you all. This is a very distressing situation. I know this is an outlier. We're very fortunate, my colleagues and I, we have the privilege of working with what I think is one of the best benches in the state, the bars in the state. For me the appellate bar here in the city of New York and its surrounding suburbs, we see excellent work. For me personally, it's been a highlight of my career to have the opportunity to work with such outstanding judges, and to have the opportunity to work with such outstanding lawyers,” he said. “A part of this profession, a big component of it, is that there's an element of trust, and mistakes are made. We make mistakes as judges, we've made mistakes. I don't want to speak for my colleagues, but I dare say that we've all made mistakes as practitioners, and we work very hard when there are mistakes to try to give the benefit of doubt to those lawyers who practice before us. We know how difficult your respective jobs are. And in reviewing this, I know my colleagues and I have tried to give every benefit of the doubt to the lawyers before us.” He went on to say that the citing of false cases that don't exist and quotes that have no support in the law is “well below the standard we expect from the bar.” He said it’s “striking, concerning, disappointing, and saddening to think that members of the bar would forward cases to a court that don't exist, and to think that the lawyers on the other side of that didn’t read it for whatever reason, didn’t check it.” Sanders got up and tried to apologize again before leaving. “You’ll have an opportunity to apologize in a different way,” LaSalle said. “Why don’t you do your research and find out how that happened, though?” Sanders and his law firm were ordered to show cause as to why they shouldn’t be sanctioned. On Wednesday, Landberg’s case was dismissed.

Inside Santos' political chessboard ahead of the presidential election
Inside Santos' political chessboard ahead of the presidential electionAs the end of the current president Marcelo Teixeira’s term approaches, the political backstage at Santos is starting to heat up.After a period of turbulence and protests over the statute rules, potential candidates are already beginning to organize their campaigns for the election that will take place at the end of this year.Because of this, ge detailed the current political landscape at Vila Belmiro, the approved rules, and the names expected to compete for control of the club.A victory for the fans in the statute rulesThe main recent controversy involved the eligibility rules for the presidency. The committee responsible for the new statute had proposed that, in order to run, an interested candidate would need to have served at least two terms as a club board member. The measure sparked strong dissatisfaction and protests from the fans.Last week, the Deliberative Council backed down and approved keeping the current rule: to run for the Santos presidency, it is enough to have been an uninterrupted club member for 10 years. The decision directly meets the demands made during the demonstrations held on the voting days. The pre-candidates and the political maneuveringInternal expectations are that the election will feature at least three groups in the race. See how the main factions are moving:Marcelo Teixeira’s silence: The current president has not yet confirmed whether he will seek reelection or support another name from his political group. This mystery, however, is a trademark of Teixeira. In the 2023 election, he officially launched his candidacy only 23 days before the vote.Ivan Luduvice’s opposition: The lawyer, who ran as Ricardo Agostinho’s vice-presidential candidate in 2023 (finishing in fourth place), is already positioning himself as a pre-candidate. Luduvice has been actively using his social media to criticize the current administration and gather support. The Maruca-Marino alliance: The second- and third-place finishers in the 2023 election (Maurício Maruca and Rodrigo Marino, respectively) decided to join forces. Together, they received 2,451 votes in the last election. Marathe wants long Farke stay
[Getty Images]Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe says he hopes Daniel Farke is manager "for years to come".In an extensive interview with BBC Radio Leeds, Marathe discussed the German boss' role, player recruitment and Elland Road's future. In May, Farke said he is "not the right choice" to remain in charge of the club if they fail to match his ambition.Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope, Marathe said: "I hope Daniel is here, not just this coming season but many beyond that. No-one needs to convince each other about a plan and ambition because we all have it."Leeds United is bigger than me, him - all of us. We have it going on a track, we just need to not have it derailed."We are absolutely aligned. My hope and expectation is that he is here for years to come."Marathe warned there would be "no complacency" at Leeds this summer after the club survived in the Premier League thanks to impressive form in 2026.Farke's punchy news conference in mid-May generated headlines as the head coach explained he wants to do more than beat the drop in future. He pointed to a former "three-year plan" but challenged the club to show ambition in its next chapter.Marathe added: "When Daniel and I got together three years ago and thought about how we could come together, the goal at that time was getting back to the Premier League and wanting to show we belonged. So in some ways, yes, the first chapter is complete."I love and appreciate Daniel's ambition. I am ambitious too. Daniel doesn't need to sell me the next three-year plan and ambition, and I don't have to sell to him. We have put the club on the right train track, going in the right direction at the right speed."Asked what he hopes is the situation at the club a year from now, Marathe added: "Tomorrow is better than today. I just want next year to be better than this year. I am not talking about a number of points, I am talking about we continue to build."The chairman said naming rights for Elland Road have so far not been contemplated as a revenue source. You can hear about this and his ideas on transfers in the full interview.Listen to Marathe in conversation with BBC Radio Leeds here

Change to Monaco’s Swimming Pool Section Has Photographers Fuming Ahead of The Grand Prix
Race week at Monaco has a way of surfacing grievances that don’t exist anywhere else on the F1 calendar. This year’s entry: a catch fence at the Swimming Pool chicane that has been extended past its previous endpoint, cutting off what was apparently one of the better shooting positions on the entire circuit. The frustration went public when photographer Jamey Price posted an Instagram Story showing the new barrier from trackside. His caption left little room for interpretation: “That’s a big old new fence to block an excellent shot. Another example of things that didn’t need to be changed are changed.” The image quickly circulated on X, with commentary account @cytrusf1 summing up the general reaction with “They added the fence???? WHY.”The Specific Change Photographers Are Upset AboutAccording to replies in the thread, the catch fence on the right side of the track at the Swimming Pool section previously came to an end just past the apex, leaving a window of access that photographers had used for years. That gap is now closed. One user clarified: “Fence used to stop just after the apex, for those asking which one,” with a photo of the chicane showing exactly where the extension begins. One reply on X added: “Because they listened the social morons that don’t understand how physics works I guess.”Monaco’s Track Access Is Already Among the Most Restricted in F1Walking the Monaco circuit with the right credentials is an experience that most people will never get, and those who do know how singular it is to stand directly behind the barriers while cars go past at close range. That access is also jealously managed, and it shrinks a little more with each passing year. The circuit runs just 2.074 miles in total , which means every shooting position is precious, there are only so many corners, and only so many angles from which a lens can reach the cars without obstruction. Losing even one good position at a venue this compact is felt more acutely than it would be at a conventional circuit with a kilometer of runoff to work with. The reality is that the Swimming Pool section is one of the most photographed parts of the entire lap.Drivers push through the tight chicane at great speed, making it exactly the kind of high-speed technical sequence that produces the images fans actually want to see. Blocking that angle doesn’t make the shot disappear, it just means nobody gets to take it.Whether this is a permanent fixture or something that gets revisited before qualifying remains to be seen. Given that practice opens Friday, the window for a rethink is small.

Report: Arsenal set to win the race for talented forward
Report: Arsenal set to win the race for talented forwardArsenal Monitoring Christos Tzolis as Summer Plans Begin to Take ShapeArsenal’s transfer strategy has often been built around patience, preparation and identifying opportunities before they become obvious to everyone else. That may explain why, according to reporting from Sports Boom, Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis has emerged as a player attracting serious attention from the Premier League champions.Photo IMAGOThe Greek international is expected to be one of the most sought after attackers available this summer after an outstanding season in Belgium. While Newcastle United’s interest has been widely discussed, Arsenal’s involvement adds a different dimension to the story, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding parts of Mikel Arteta’s attacking unit.Newcastle Interest Fails to Spark ExcitementSports Boom previously reported that Newcastle viewed Tzolis as a potential replacement should Anthony Gordon leave St James’ Park. That interest appears genuine. What appears less convincing is the player’s enthusiasm for the move.According to the report, Tzolis is looking for specific assurances before deciding his next destination. Regular playing time is a priority, while competing in the Champions League is viewed as equally important. Those requirements have shaped his thinking throughout the process. The desire to leave Belgium remains strong, but sources indicate he intends to choose carefully rather than rush into a transfer based solely on Premier League status. That measured approach reflects a player who has learned from experience.Development Since Norwich SpellWhen Tzolis first arrived in English football with Norwich City, expectations were high. The move never unfolded as planned, but the years since have significantly altered both his profile and his confidence.Sports Boom notes that he is now more mature, more experienced and psychologically stronger than during his first spell in England. His performances for Club Brugge support that assessment.Photo IMAGOAfter helping the Belgian side secure the league title and excelling throughout the Championship Play Offs, Tzolis has established himself as one of the most productive attacking players in Belgian football. Such form inevitably attracts attention from clubs operating at a higher level.A return to the Premier League appears increasingly likely. The question is which club provides the most attractive pathway.Emirates Option Gathers MomentumThis is where Arsenal enter the conversation.Sports Boom reports that Arsenal scouts have watched Tzolis on at least two occasions this season and returned with positive assessments. The timing is noteworthy.Leandro Trossard continues to attract interest from elsewhere, while Gabriel Martinelli has admirers outside England. Neither departure is guaranteed, but Arsenal are preparing for multiple scenarios.Photo IMAGOShould one or both players leave, the recruitment team would likely prioritise a left sided attacker capable of cutting inside onto a stronger right foot.Tzolis fits that description neatly. He also falls into the age profile Arsenal have consistently targeted under Arteta, a player entering his peak years while still offering significant room for development.Attraction of Arsenal ProjectBeyond the tactical fit, there are indications that Arsenal’s broader project appeals to the player.Sports Boom reports that Tzolis was impressed after facing Arsenal and has spoken positively about the club in the past. He was among the Greek internationals who publicly backed Arsenal ahead of the Champions League final, a detail that naturally generated discussion among supporters. Those close to the situation believe several factors resonate with him. Arsenal offer Champions League football, regular title challenges and an environment built around a young manager and a tightly connected squad. For a player carefully evaluating his next step, those qualities matter. There is still work to be done before any transfer progresses beyond scouting and monitoring. Arsenal’s plans remain linked to potential departures and wider squad decisions.Yet one theme appears increasingly clear. As Tzolis prepares for what could be a defining summer in his career, Arsenal are paying close attention. Our View – EPL Index AnalysisTzolis may not be the most fashionable name linked with Arsenal this summer, but supporters have seen the benefits of identifying players before their market value explodes. His performances in Belgium suggest he possesses the technical quality and attacking instincts required to thrive at a higher level.Fans will also appreciate the profile. Arsenal do not necessarily need a ready made superstar on the left flank. They need competition, depth and players capable of growing within Arteta’s system. Tzolis appears to tick many of those boxes.Much depends on what happens with Trossard and Martinelli. If both remain, a move may be difficult to justify. If one departs, however, the logic becomes clearer.Supporters are likely to trust the club’s scouting department, particularly after reports that Arsenal have already monitored him extensively. The fact that Champions League football and Arsenal’s wider project reportedly appeal to the player will only encourage optimism. This may not yet be one of the headline transfer sagas of the summer, but Arsenal fans will recognise that some of the smartest deals begin exactly like this.
