SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMets get Freddy Peralta trade update that 'makes the most sense'Mets get Freddy Peralta trade update that 'makes the most sense' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. With the New York Mets going through some struggles this season, sitting at the bottom of the NL East a few days into June, it would not be a surprise if the Mets were sellers. How far the Mets go in their sale is a big question mark, but as things currently stand, they might only be trading a few players who are set to be free agents.ESPN's Jeff Passan gave Freddy Peralta, the All-Star ace the Mets acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers this past offseason, a significant trade update that "makes the most sense" for the Mets as a franchise.Freddy Peralta trade update 'makes the most sense' for Mets"And with the compensation for potentially losing Peralta in free agency not close to what he'd demand on the trade market, moving him before Aug. 3 makes the most sense," Passan writes. This update is not an especially surprising one. Players who leave in free agency, even if they sign with a new club after declining the qualifying offer, don't bring back nearly as much as they would in a trade. With the Mets' poor record, trading someone like Peralta would make a lot of sense. He's a free agent after the season ends, and he's much more valuable to the future of the franchise in a trade than keeping him for the rest of the year.MORE: Mets projected to still sell at trade deadline by ex-MLB GMThat would change if the Mets can rebound from their poor start to the season. But barring such a turnaround, Peralta should be on the move.Teams would surely offer a solid package to the Mets for Peralta, as the All-Star ace would be one of the more sought-after pitchers on the market this season.Trading Peralta might not be the decision fans are hoping for, but this would actually be the best thing to do for the future of the franchise.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMControversial UFC Champion Sean Strickland Rips Trump’s White House FightToplineSean Strickland, the UFC’s reigning middleweight champion who may be just as well known for his history of offensive statements, claimed he is blacklisted from the UFC White House fight over his critical comments on Israel, suggesting he’d show up to the event anyway with a bullhorn to protest.Sean Strickland is the UFC middleweight champion. (Photo by Jack Gorman/Getty Images)Getty ImagesKey FactsStrickland, an American UFC fighter who won the middleweight title last month, claimed in a video on X unnamed UFC higher-ups called him to say he cannot attend the upcoming White House fight, quipping the executives told him he is not “Israeli enough,” likely referring to Strickland’s history of anti-Israel comments.Strickland said his “allegiance was apparently in the wrong place,” noting he has been a critic of the war in Iran and both the United States and Israel’s involvement. In another video on his Instagram story, Strickland said, “I already bought my plane ticket, we’re f—ing going… I’m gonna get a big f—ing bullhorn, and we’re gonna go right up to the gates,” claiming it would be a “peaceful protest.” UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell backed Strickland at a press event late Wednesday and blasted the White House fight, saying the government is "desecrating its role in society by entertaining sports.”The government should “never” host sporting events because “there's more room for corruption and we already have a corrupted government,” Mitchell said, adding the role of the government is to “protect us, not entertain us.” Strickland has previously criticized the UFC’s White House fight, saying in December he would not want to go to “hang out with the f—ing Epstein list.”What Other UFC Figures Have Criticized The White House Fight?Joe Rogan, a longtime UFC commentator, has repeatedly criticized the upcoming fight on his podcast, despite being slated to attend and call the event. On “The Joe Rogan Experience” last week, Rogan raised concerns over safety, saying, “That seems like a good safe place to be, huh? Everyone’s going to know where all the world leaders are going to be.” He has frequently criticized the logistics of the event, saying a UFC championship should not be held outdoors because of potential disturbances like bad weather, bugs or high heat. Rogan, also a frequent critic of the Iran war, said in March it is “weird to have a fight at the White House in the middle of a f—ing war.” UFC fighter Brandon Royval criticized the fight in November, saying, “I don’t give a s— about fighting at the f—ing White House.” Royval said he doesn’t care about any politicians or billionaires, and he likened fighting in front of them to “The Hunger Games.” Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey also slammed the event in September, saying, “I ain’t fighting at the f—ing White House.” In March, Rousey said the card for the White House fight “sucks” and “fell extremely short of expectations.”What Do We Know About The UFC White House Fight?UFC fighters will face off at the White House on June 14, which is both President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and Flag Day, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Construction of a 4,000-seat arena is underway on the South Lawn, which Trump earlier this week compared to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. He said the Eiffel Tower was never taken down as planned, suggesting the UFC octagon is “quite attractive to a lot of people” and “maybe we’ll never ever take it down.” The UFC is expected to spend $60 million on the event, with UFC president Dana White claiming the organization will likely lose $30 million. White has defended the event against critics, including those who have called it insensitive or unsafe to host a fight at the White House during a war. The UFC “can’t just bend and break and roll over for every bad thing that happens in the world,” White told Rolling Stone, saying he’s “not going to not run my business” because of the war. The UFC announced the lineup in March, sparking mixed reactions from fans who felt it lacks the sport’s legends. The event’s main fight is a lightweight match between American Justin Gaethje against Ilia Topuria of Georgia.key backgroundStrickland is a two-time UFC middleweight champion, winning his first title in 2023 and his second last month. Rogan has previously praised him as “one of the best fighters on planet Earth,” saying he is “one of the hardest guys to hit in the sport.” But Strickland also regularly draws outrage for making controversial and offensive statements that have targeted women, LGBTQ people and people of color, and he has sparked backlash for using racial and homophobic slurs. Earlier this year, he drew backlash for using a homophobic slur against musician Bad Bunny after his Super Bowl halftime show, calling him a “gay foreigner who doesn’t speak f—ing English” during a UFC Media Day event. The same day, he said “no one gives a f— about women’s sports,” adding, “There’s nothing wrong with women. They do great things. They cook, they clean.” Earlier this week, he posted an apparently AI-generated video on Instagram of himself beating a transgender woman in a UFC octagon, saying he has “yet to see one rainbow flag. We're back!!!” referring to the start of Pride Month.further readingTrump Says UFC Arena Could Be Permanent At White House—Everything We Know About The Upcoming Event (Forbes)Rogan Raises Safety Concerns About White House UFC Fight (Forbes)This article was originally published on Forbes.com0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. It's always darkest before the dawn. The Boston Red Sox take the field today against the Balimore Orioles looking to win their second consecutive series. A victory at Fenway Park would put the Red Sox in prime position to make up ground in the American League East.Boston is in last place in the division, 10.5 games behind the first-place Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox are 3.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card, with the New York Yankees owning a healthy lead in the standings. That could change this weekend, when the Red Sox visit the Yankees for a three-game series in the Bronx.Yes, New York swept a three-game series from Boston back in April. But that was days before the club fired manager Alex Cora. Since then, interim manager Chad Tracy (16-17) has stopped the bleeding. The Red Sox have Sonny Gray, Ranger Suarez and Connelly Early lined up to face Ryan Weathers, Will Warren and Massachusetts native Cam Schlittler. So it should be a great weekend for pitching. The Yankees lead the AL with a 3.31 team ERA and the Red Sox are 5th with a 3.78 team ERA. New York also could be missing right fielder Aaron Judge as the three-time AL MVP battles a rib cage injury. From there the Red Sox head south for a three-game series with the Rays. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKyle Trask's unlikely rise remains one of Florida's greatest storiesFlorida Quarterback Kyle Trask hadn't started a game since his freshman year of high school, but somehow became a Heisman trophy finalist for the Gators after taking over the starting role in 2019. Relieving injured teammate Feleipe Franks, Trask went on to have a record-breaking season, throwing for 4,283 yards to go along with 43 touchdowns. The former three-star prospect was named Second-Team All-American in 2020, a feat that The Athletic defines as one of the biggest recruiting finds of the past decade.A Texas native, Trask had offers from Houston Baptist, McNeese State, and Lamar after a high school career in which he was a back-up for three seasons. So, how does a recruit go from obscurity to breaking a 24-year-old school record held by Gator great Danny Wuerffel? Extreme perseverance, patience, and seizing the moment. Trask's scholarship offer at Florida didn't come from HS game tape, but from attending a camp where he showcased his elite pocket passing. The adversity didn't stop once he got to Florida; the 6-foot-5-inch playmaker had multiple foot injuries in the process, losing battles to higher-ranked recruits. In the third game of the 2019 season, Franks suffered an ankle injury against Kentucky. Trask entered the contest and led the Gators to a comeback win, and the rest is history. Trask was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2021 draft.Follow us @GatorsWire on X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Bluesky, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida Gators news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Gators Wire: Former Florida QB Kyle Trask one of decade's biggest recruiting wins0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGOP candidate shows no remorse after disturbing “Anti-Pride Month” declarationA GOP candidate for the Connecticut state House is doubling down after posting a callous anti-Pride message that has been condemned by both Democrats and Republicans in the state. “Happy Straight Month!” wrote 23-year-old Jadon MacCormack in a June 2nd social media post. “It’s American to be Anti-Pride Month, this is America’s 250th Anniversary!” Related Red states are declaring June something other than Pride Month in latest anti-LGBTQ+ trend He added that if elected as a state representative, he “would stand firmly against the Transgender and LGBT movement that has for too long corrupted our families, undermined parental authority, and eroded the foundational values of our society.” “This ideology promotes confusion over clarity, prioritizes feelings over biological reality, and seeks to redefine the natural order of marriage, family, and human identity in ways that directly contradict God-given rights and common sense,” he continued. Your LGBTQ+ guide to Election 2024 Stay ahead of the 2024 Election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. Subscribe to our Newsletter today He concluded with a promise to “fight relentlessly in the state legislature to protect our children from premature medical interventions, indoctrination in schools, and the normalization of perverse ideologies that threaten the innocence of the next generation.” State House Minority Leader Vincent J. Candelora (R) told the CT Mirror that the post was “immature and reckless” and that it proves that MacCormack “isn’t ready for the responsibility he’s asking voters to give him.” Candelora did not specifically defend the LGBTQ+ community, but nonetheless called on MacCormack to drop out of the race, saying voters deserve someone who is “focused on their paychecks, their property taxes and their kids’ futures.” He later added that it’s important to debate issues like trans athletes in sports, but that his rhetoric “is not only naive, but it is disturbing.” Candelora also told the Mirror that when the Supreme Court legalized marriage equality in 2015, MacCormack responded by posting a photo of a noose with the message, “The Bible got it right.” MacCormack was unmoved by Candelora’s condemnation, calling the statement “absurd” in a 2:39 a.m. text to the Mirror. He also claimed it revealed “a profound lack of character,” accusing Candelora of being “willing to play politics at the expense of integrity simply to hold onto power.” “There is a clear reason Connecticut is in such deep decline: too many Republicans in office have grown weak and complacent,” said MacCormack. “What the party desperately needs is the bold, principled mindset that young conservatives like myself are bringing to the fight.” Democrats also condemned MacCormack to the Mirror. Vanita Bhalla, vice chair of the Connecticut Democratic Party, called him “just another MAGA extremist,” while state House Speaker Matt Ritter (D) and state House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D) called the comments “sickening” in a joint statement. MacCormack is running against Democratic incumbent Rep. Pat Boyd in Connecticut’s 50th district. Boyd has represented the district since 2017. Boyd also posted a response to MacCormack’s bigoted comments, writing that he is “deeply embarrassed that our region is drawing statewide, and potentially national, attention for all the wrong reasons.” “The nomination of a major party candidate who chooses to divide our towns, spread hate, and insult our neighbors is completely tone-deaf to the decent people from all political backgrounds who live here,” he added. Boyd praised the bipartisan rebuke of the anti-Pride post and emphasized that “one of the greatest freedoms we celebrate in the United States is the right to live your life exactly the way you want.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFantasy Football Video: Can Cowboys WR George Pickens take his game to next level or will he regress in 2026?Fantasy football is difficult to predict. But after being traded to the Dallas Cowboys last offseason, it was easy to see the change of scenery would be good for WR George Pickens. Still, we didn't think that would mean Pickens would finish as a top-five fantasy wideout in 2025.As we look ahead to 2026, there will be plenty of talk of regression surrounding the Cowboys star. Or, will Pickens build on his strong campaign last season and provide even more fantasy value for managers?Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL seasonMatt Harmon and Justin Boone talk Pickens' fantasy value on the latest episode of the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast.Harmon touted Pickens as the one player he wouldn't leave a 2025 draft without going into last season. And while Harmon takes a quick victory lap on the Pickens call, there are some things to consider when looking back at his monster season. Dallas WR CeeDee Lamb missed a handful of games due to injury, though Pickens was good regardless. The 25-year-old posted nearly 1,500 receiving yards on 93 catches with nine touchdowns to finish as the fantasy WR4 overall in half-PPR scoring. Even when Lamb was healthy and getting a bigger target share, it was Pickens who was producing.Boone piggybacks with Pickens being the top fantasy WR in the four games that Lamb missed last season. Looking back, it all made sense to target Pickens, going from Pittsburgh to a better offense in Dallas — a scheme that was going to throw the ball more with a quality QB in Dak Prescott.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentBut this year, Boone doesn't feel the same way. He’s worried going into 2026 because of the contract issue with Pickens not showing up to OTAs. With that in the way, it could be difficult for Pickens to live up to his hype given his early ADP for 2026, which has him going as the WR9 around the late second round in 12-team drafts, per Yahoo. For Harmon, Pickens isn't going to be a full fade but you're "paying the iron price," to quote "Game of Thrones" there. Harmon likes Cowboys depth receiver Ryan Flournoy as a sleeper in the event that something happens with Pickens or if Lamb misses time again.Yahoo ADP and Boone align on Pickens, as the analyst has him as the WR9 in his updated June wide receiver fantasy football rankings for 2026.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'That's what's unusual': Alastair Cook reveals what makes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi differentFew players have captured the imagination of the cricketing world quite like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. At just 15 years of age, the Rajasthan Royals opener has emerged as one of the biggest sensations in the game after producing a breathtaking IPL 2026 campaign that shattered records and earned admiration from some of cricket's most respected voices. The teenager from Samastipur finished the season as the tournament's leading run-scorer, amassing a remarkable 776 runs. His explosive performances played a major role in Rajasthan Royals' campaign and sparked widespread calls for an India debut, particularly after his pair of scores in the nineties during the playoffs. Sooryavanshi's dominance was reflected in the awards he collected at the end of the season. Alongside winning the Orange Cap, he was named the Most Valuable Player and Emerging Player of the Season. His astonishing strike rate of 237.31 earned him the Super Striker Award, while his record tally of 72 sixes secured the Super Sixes honour. Former England captain Alastair Cook was among those fascinated by the youngster's batting. Speaking on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Cook highlighted a quality he believes separates Sooryavanshi from even the most destructive batters in the world. "I think the one thing about it is there doesn't seem to be any premeditation. Most batsmen, even the best hitters, are literally waiting for that ball to be in their one slot for six. They might have two slots. But with him, you bowl five balls, and he'll wait for a ball at 99 miles per hour, then react to it and still hit it for six. So cleanly. I think that's what's unusual," Alastair Cook said in stic to cricket podcast. Cook's observation centred on the youngster's incredible reaction time and natural ball-striking ability. Unlike many power hitters who anticipate certain deliveries, Sooryavanshi appears capable of adjusting instantly and dispatching even high-speed bowling with ease. Another former England captain, Michael Vaughan, also shared an amusing encounter with the teenage star during the tournament. "I was in the pool last week in Mumbai. Rajasthan playing Mumbai - a must-win game to go through to the playoffs. Yashasvi Jaiswal comes and has a chat, and then the kid (Sooryavanshi) arrives and I start off: 'It's a pleasure to meet you. Full admiration for the way you play. How do you prepare for the matches?' He went: 'Watching cartoons.' I was like... alright. I said, 'Are you training?' He went, 'No.' I said, 'What do you eat?' He went, 'Everything.' I said - there's the modern player. Watch a cartoon, eat what you want, smack it out of the ground," he said. The light-hearted exchange offered a glimpse into the carefree personality behind one of the most talked-about talents in world cricket. Following his record-breaking IPL season, Sooryavanshi is set for another important chapter in his young career. The teenage sensation will next feature for India A in the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka and is also in contention for a place on India's tour of Ireland.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHowie Roseman masterclass salvaged nightmare A.J. Brown situation | McGonigalEveryone knew the Philadelphia Eagles were going to trade star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. Everyone had Monday circled on their calendar for the blockbuster move, and it happened right on schedule. The earliest the Eagles could trade Brown and spread out his salary cap hit over the next two seasons was 4:01 p.m. The Eagles announced that the deal was done at 4:20 p.m. Nice and easy, right? Well, not really. Framing the Brown trade that way would shortchange the impressive job general manager Howie Roseman did to extract the most value he could from a distressed asset. Some have criticized Roseman for the compensation received in exchange for the three-time All-Pro wide receiver. Some have opined that a 2028 first-round pick, with a 2027 fifth-round pick tacked on, wasn’t enough of a return for arguably the best receiver in franchise history. The Eagles are +140 to win the NFC East Division on Caesars. Our complete Caesars Sportsbook review provides a helpful guide on how to navigate their app. Also, our NFL futures betting guide has you covered if you’re interested in learning more about how to bet on NFL futures. But those people, whether they’re fans, trolls or out-of-touch national media types, are ignoring the context of the Brown situation — and the job Roseman did navigating it. Brown wanted out. There wasn’t a robust market. There was an obvious landing spot. They realistically couldn’t trade him before the NFL draft and didn’t have any real leverage after it. And yet, Roseman came close to recouping what the Eagles paid for him in the first place.Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman reacts during an NFL preseason football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, in Philadelphia.(AP Photo/Chris Szagola)Brown joined Philadelphia in April 2022. The Eagles sent a first-round pick and a third-round pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for Brown, a rising star at the time. On Monday, the Eagles got a first-round pick and a fifth-round pick after utilizing his talents for four years. In those four years, Brown recorded 339 catches for 5,034 yards and 32 touchdowns. The Eagles won the NFC East three times and racked up 50 regular-season wins. They went to the Super Bowl twice and won it last year, beating the Chiefs to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. For what essentially amounted to a long-term rental, that’s pretty darn good. Sure, there were issues, particularly this past season. Brown’s comments (and his subsequent silence that spoke volumes) could have tanked his trade value. It was no secret that he was frustrated. He no longer wanted to play for the Eagles or catch passes from Jalen Hurts. Then, the list of potential suitors for Brown started to dwindle. The Bills traded for Bears receiver D.J. Moore. The Broncos traded for Dolphins receiver Jaylen Waddle. The Rams showed interest and pursued Brown but were reportedly “scared off” by chronic knee concerns.Nevertheless, Roseman set a high asking price before the NFL draft. If the Eagles were going to trade him for 2026 capital — and take on all of the $43 million in dead money immediately — they needed a first-round pick, a second-round pick and a player to make it worthwhile. There weren’t any takers. But the Eagles planned for life without Brown anyway, drafting first-round USC star Makai Lemon, acquiring Dontayvion Wicks and signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore. Southern California wide receiver Makai Lemon poses with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after being chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 20th overall pick during the first round of the NFL football draft, Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Pittsburgh.(AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar)After the Eagles traded up in dramatic fashion in the first round to secure Lemon, everyone really knew Brown was gone. But Roseman moved forward, confident that the Eagles would land a first-round pick. And to his credit, he did. It helped that the Patriots, after falling flat on their face in the Super Bowl, desperately needed a WR1 for phenom quarterback Drake Maye. Would Roseman have preferred a 2027 first-round pick? Probably. That draft class is expected to be one of the best in recent memory. Would Roseman have liked to get back what Miami received from Denver for Waddle? Sure. But the Dolphins got a first-rounder and a third-rounder in part because they was no pressure to sell. They also received the No. 30 overall pick in the 2026 draft; there’s a decent chance the Eagles get a higher pick in 2028.“We scout future drafts, not just ’26, but ’27 and ’28,” Roseman said Monday. “And I think for us, we’ve always been of the mindset that a pick is a pick. A first-round pick is a first-round pick. It doesn’t matter. Teams are still going to be playing football in 2028.“... From our perspective, getting a first-round pick for our team, having two first-round picks in 2028, is a huge, huge part of this move. When you look at that and obviously the options of what you’re able to do with multiple first-round picks, it’s a huge game-changer.”Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown (11) lays on the field after he dropped a pass on the Eagles final drive of the NFL Wildcard playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026 in Philadelphia. The 49ers won, 23-19.Andrew Mills | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comLanding a first-round pick for Brown — a disgruntled player who’s turning 29 years old later this month — is Roseman making lemonade out of lemons. Splitting up the cap charge made the Eagles more flexible in the short term, allowing them to trade for Pro Bowl edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. And adding a future first-rounder gives Roseman more premium capital to work with — and we all know what he can do with that. Are the Eagles a more talented team without Brown? No. But when Brown decided he didn’t want to be in Philly — when he saw New England as a destination for the final stages of his career — there wasn’t much the Eagles could have done about that.Roseman made the best of a less-than-ideal situation. And that shouldn’t get lost in the conclusion to the exhausting Brown trade saga that is finally, mercifully over. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMA.J. Brown opens up about Jalen Hurts relationship: ‘Not as close as we once were’A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts’ relationship was once described as a “brotherhood.” But that frayed friendship came into focus as trade talks swirled around Brown this offseason. Shortly after Brown was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New England Patriots, the three-time All-Pro wide receiver addressed where things stand with Hurts. Brown, in an in-depth interview with NBC Sports host Maria Taylor, was asked to describe his relationship with the Eagles’ franchise quarterback. “Not as close as we once were,” Brown said in an interview published on Tuesday. “I believe that’s fine. There’s no bad blood. There’s actually still a lot of love. I love him to death. I want him to succeed and accomplish all the things that he wants to accomplish.“I didn’t truly understand why our friendship became the center of everyone’s attention when it comes to football. Because looking back on it, we haven’t been as close as we were for a couple years now. But that didn’t stop anything. We still competed, we still pushed each other, we still led the team. It was just kind of strange. People got so fixated on our relationship.“Im’a say it to you, Im’a say it on camera, I have nothing but love for him. I want him to do well and accomplish everything that his heart desires.”Taylor then asked Brown why he and Hurts grew apart.“Nothing happened. Nothing happened,” Brown insisted. “People just grow apart. Nothing happened between me and him or our families, our wives, anything. Nothing like that ever happened. But life happens and you just look up sometimes and you find yourself drifting away. And that’s fine. And I think both parties accepted that.”Hurts and Brown were teammates for the last four seasons after the Eagles acquired Brown in a 2022 trade with the Tennessee Titans.Hurts and Brown created one of the NFL’s best QB-WR duos in that stretch. Brown recorded 5,034 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns from 2022-25. The duo reached a pair of Super Bowls and won it all in February 2025.Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) talks with wide receiver A.J. Brown (11) during a timeout during an NFL game against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 5, 2023, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.(AP Photo/Rich Schultz)But when Brown’s role in the offense diminished slightly in 2024 and 2025, speculation swirled over a rift between Brown and Hurts. In Dec. 2024, Eagles legend Brandon Graham hinted that Hurts and Brown’s relationship was deteriorating. In April, ESPN published an in-depth story that claimed Hurts was at a “crossroads” in his career in Philadelphia — and his relationship with Brown was a major topic. Last week, Hurts was asked about the possibility of Brown being traded. He said nothing could “replace all the greatness that we achieved together.”Hurts said “nothing’s changed” about their relationship since they last spoke at the end of the 2025 season, saying they were “really good.”Tabloid outlets made a big deal about Hurts not attending Brown’s wedding last month. It’s unclear if Hurts was invited or not. But the QB made it clear he was excited for Brown.“I saw how beautiful the pictures came out at his wedding. APNEWS.COMWhat to know about the deal between Israel and Lebanon extending their shaky ceasefireAn Israeli flag hangs on a destroyed building in southern Lebanon as seen from northern Israel, Thursday June 4, 2026. (AP Photo/Ariel Schalit)2026-06-04T13:11:55Z BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) — Israel and Lebanon have agreed to renew their shaky ceasefire, with an aim to continue talks later this month for a comprehensive peace deal. The U.S.-brokered agreement, announced in a joint statement by the U.S., Israel and Lebanon Wednesday, comes after Israeli forces made their deepest incursion into Lebanon in more than a quarter century. But it includes several contentious points, including the creation of “pilot” security zones inside Lebanon from which the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group that Israel has been fighting would be banned, and a stipulation about the group’s eventual disbanding.Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Thursday the deal is the “last chance to enter a final and comprehensive ceasefire.” A November 2024 U.S.-brokered deal to end fighting between Hezbollah and Israel sparked by the war in Gaza failed to hold. It comes days after a major escalation in the Lebanon conflict was narrowly averted, with a separate agreement reached Monday for Israel to refrain from its threatened strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and Hezbollah to halt attacks on northern Israel. But its details raise questions over whether it will hold. Here are some key things to know about the Israel-Lebanon ceasefire deal. Hezbollah’s actions are key to the deal’s successThe current deal builds on a ceasefire initially reached on April 17 between Israel and the Lebanese government. But crucially, even though much of it hinges on what Hezbollah will do, the militant group was not officially involved in the talks. Hezbollah’s leader, Sheikh Naim Kassem, has instead relied on Iran’s leverage in its talks with Washington. Tehran has insisted any deal to end the Iran war must include Lebanon. Read More Kassem slammed the agreement Thursday, calling it “Satan’s dream in heaven.” He insisted on a complete ceasefire and Israeli troop withdrawal, saying the deal would destabilize Lebanon and create divisions among its people. “The agreement allows Israel to take in politics what it couldn’t in war,” Kassem said. “As long as the occupation is still present, then the resistance will continue.”Israel says it is at war with Hezbollah, which it has long considered to be a major threat, not with Lebanon itself. However, Israel has struck areas far from Hezbollah’s influence, including in the heart of the Lebanese capital. The Shiite Muslim armed group emerged in 1982 in response to Israel’s then-occupation of southern Lebanon, and has grown to become one of the country’s most influential forces. Underlining its view of the group as an existential threat, Israel said in Wednesday’s joint statement that its own security and respect for its territorial integrity “can only be achieved through the disarmament of Hezbollah and the dismantlement of its infrastructure throughout Lebanon.” Lebanon signing a statement describing Hezbollah as a threat underscores the growing divide in the country over the group, and Beirut’s efforts to distance itself from Iran and improve ties with Gulf countries and Washington. It also risks alienating Hezbollah and its supporters, largely members of the Shiite community. Ceasefire stipulates the creation of ‘pilot zones’ controlled by the Lebanese armyThe joint statement says the ceasefire “is contingent on a complete cessation of Hezbollah fire and the evacuation of all Hezbollah operatives” from south of the Litani River. The river, located about 30 kilometers (20 miles) north of the border with Israel, forms the boundary of a 2006 U.N.-established buffer zone in which Hezbollah is banned. Israeli troops have currently pushed far past the Litani River into southern Lebanon, sending hundreds of thousands of Lebanese fleeing.According to the statement, Lebanon and Israel agreed to “swiftly advance the creation of pilot zones in which the Lebanese Armed Forces will take exclusive control of the territory to the exclusion of all non-state actors.”That piles pressure on Lebanon’s cash-strapped military to exert its presence in areas where Hezbollah is prominent. Lebanon fears a confrontational approach to disarming Hezbollah could risk conflict across the country, whereas Israel accuses Beirut of not being aggressive enough. Israeli forces now control large areas in southern Lebanon and have demolished homes and historical sites. The statement also said the negotiators discussed a security framework that would include “the dismantlement of non-state armed groups, and the prevention of their reemergence.”But how exactly the pilot zones will be created, and how Hezbollah will be dismantled, remain very unclear. Aoun said a string of villages just north of the Litani could be the pilot zone. Ceasefire deal attempts to separate Lebanon from the Iran warLebanon has become a major sticking point in attempts to extend the separate ceasefire in the Iran war. The joint statement said that “all parties condemned Iran’s attacks on countries in the region, and ongoing activities that undermine stability throughout the Middle East, whether through support for proxies and all other acts of aggression.”It also included clear references seeking to separate the two conflicts. “All countries reaffirmed that the future of the relationship between Israel and Lebanon must be decided by the two sovereign governments. They rejected any attempt, by any state or non-state actor, to hold Lebanon’s future hostage,” it said.It added that “any agreement to cease hostilities must be reached directly between the two governments, brokered by the United States, and not through any separate track.”The phrasing would aim to prevent Tehran from using Hezbollah and the conflict in Lebanon as a bargaining chip in its own ceasefire negotiations.Israel says it can continue fighting during the ceasefireDespite the initial ceasefire deal in mid-April, fighting has continued, with Hezbollah resuming attacks after Israeli strikes in Lebanon that Israel characterized as self-defense.That fighting shows few signs of abating. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday the Israeli military would remain in what he described as a security zone in Lebanon, while continuing operations against Hezbollah infrastructure. The military “will, at this stage, continue its fire and activity on the ground,” he said. Katz said the arrangements reflect “the reality we have created in Lebanon so far” and could eventually lead to a peace agreement with Lebanon and “real and lasting security” for residents of northern Israel. On Thursday, the Israeli military issued a warning to residents of southern Lebanon that it was continuing to target Hezbollah “infrastructure located in and near the area south of the Zahrani River.” It said that “anyone who moves south of the river is putting their life at risk.” The Zahrani is located some 30 kilometers (18 miles) north of the Litani River. ___Becatoros reported from Athens, Greece. APNEWS.COMA fire at a nursing home in Sri Lanka kills 12 peopleA Sri Lankan police officer inspects a charred elderly care home following an overnight fire in Anguruwatota, Sri Lanka, Thursday, June 4, 2026. (AP Photo)2026-06-04T08:43:08Z COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — A fire at an unregistered nursing home in western Sri Lanka killed 12 residents and injured eight others, police said Thursday. The fire started late Wednesday at the home in Anguruwatota town. Fifty-one residents were rescued, police spokesman Fredrick Wootler said. He said people with mental illnesses were also housed there. The director of the home was arrested on suspicion of causing deaths through negligence. He appeared before a court and was ordered to be detained for a week while an investigation is underway. Associated Press footage showed the building gutted with its charred furniture and equipment. Bodies lay nearby. Local television channel Hiru showed image of firefighters, police and residents trying to contain the raging fire. Those rescued were assisted by police and soldiers in boarding buses to a safe location. Chathura Mihudum, director of the National Secretariat for Elders, said the facility was not registered as a nursing home and had been warned to follow laws and guidelines. He said it was overcrowded with beds for just about 15 people in a space where 71 people were living. Government officials had previously visited the institution and had instructed the management to follow laws, he said, without elaborating.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 33 Views 0 Anteprima

APNEWS.COMSenate begins voting on bill to fund ICE, Border Patrol as Democrats try to derail itSenate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., joined from left by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., speaks to reporters after a closed-door meeting with fellow Republicans, at the Capitol in Washington, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)2026-06-04T14:12:22Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate is beginning a long series of votes Thursday on legislation to fund President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agencies, moving toward passage of a three-year fix as Democrats have blocked the money for months in protest. The roughly $70 billion bill to fund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol would end the blockade by Democrats who demanded policy changes after the fatal shootings of two protesters by federal agents in January. The bill would fund the agencies for three years, through the end of Trump’s term. First, though, Republicans must beat back a potential gauntlet of amendments that Democrats plan to offer, including to try and permanently ban Trump’s $1.776 billion settlement fund for allies who he believes have been politically persecuted. Democrats have said their first amendment Thursday morning will be to eliminate the fund and send the immigration spending bill back to committee. Senate Republicans are using a complicated procedural maneuver to get around the filibuster and pass the budget legislation with no Democratic votes. But it has taken weeks to get the bill to the Senate floor as Republicans navigated various obstacles to passage created by Trump and the White House — including a $1 billion proposal for White House security that they eventually scrapped and fierce bipartisan backlash to the settlement fund. “The thing we’re trying to do here is to keep the focus on funding for ICE and CBP,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Wednesday evening, after the Senate voted to start debating the legislation. “This was narrow and targeted from the very beginning and clean, and we’re trying to maintain it that way.” Read More But it’s unclear if Republicans will have enough votes to fend off the Democratic amendments. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said this week that the fund would not move forward, and many GOP senators said Wednesday that they were satisfied with his remarks. Yet Trump, who has been at odds with Senate Republicans in recent weeks, raised new doubts about the settlement’s future on Wednesday afternoon when he told reporters that the settlement is “very important” and said “I don’t know” whether it is dead or on hold.“I’d have to ask the lawyers,” he said. Democrats, Republicans plan to force votes on settlementTo pass legislation through the budget process called reconciliation, the Senate must first hold a long series of votes. Democrats are using that process to try and ban the settlement by law — and also kill the immigration spending bill. After Trump’s comments about the fund, Schumer posted on X that “this is EXACTLY why” Democrats would be forcing votes to ban it.Some Republicans also planned to try and put Blanche’s promise in writing. Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., has said he will offer an amendment to block any attempt at resurrecting the fund.“We’ve got a sufficient number of Republicans who have been very clear they’ve got concerns there,” said Tillis. ICE and Border Patrol money has been long fightDemocrats say any funding bill for the Homeland Security Department should place restraints on federal immigration authorities, including better identification for federal officers and more use of judicial warrants, among other asks. After federal agents shot Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, Trump agreed to a Democratic request that the Homeland Security bill be separated from a larger spending measure that became law. But bipartisan negotiations went nowhere, and the DHS funding lapsed in mid-February with no agreement on changes to the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics.Congress eventually funded the rest of the Homeland Security Department at the end of April with Democratic support. But ICE and Border Patrol remained without regular funding, and Republicans launched a new effort to pass three years of funding for those agencies with no Democratic votes. Security money for Trump’s ballroom dropped Work on the legislation was also delayed by Republican opposition to $1 billion in security funding for the White House, including for Trump’s new ballroom, that was added to the original bill. Democrats and some Republicans questioned using taxpayer money for the massive project, and Republicans did not include it in the final bill when it was released on Wednesday. Thune said he was working with his GOP conference to try and fight off any amendments and ensure he has enough votes for a simple majority to pass the bill in the 53-47 Senate. “Keep in mind, we’ve got to keep them all together, make sure we’ve got 50 votes for it,” he said. Republican House leaders said Wednesday they would like to clear the legislation before the end of the week, if the Senate can finish it. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., said that House leaders were having internal conversations about the schedule. “We just need to make sure everybody’s there,” Scalise said. APNEWS.COMEx-national security adviser John Bolton will plead guilty in classified information case: AP sourceJohn Bolton speaks at Harvard Kennedy School's John F Kennedy Jr Forum, Sept. 29, 2025, in Cambridge, Mass. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer, File)2026-06-04T14:46:33Z WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Trump administration national security adviser John Bolton has agreed to plead guilty to a single count of retaining classified information under a deal with the Justice Department that could allow him to avoid prison time, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday. The deal would resolve a criminal case filed in October that charged Bolton with 18 counts of either retaining or disseminating classified information, including diary-like notes from his time in government that officials say he shared with his family members as he was preparing a memoir about his time in office.Under the agreement, Bolton would also face a $2.25 million fine, said the person, who insisted on anonymity to discuss a deal that had not been made public. Any prison sentence would be capped at five years, but the agreement allows for him to avoid time behind bars, though the punishment will ultimately be up to a judge. Bolton is one of multiple adversaries of President Donald Trump who have been prosecuted over the past year by the Republican administration. An FBI investigation into Bolton burst into public view int August when FBI agents served warrants at his Maryland home and office. He is a a longtime fixture in Republican foreign policy circles who became known for his hawkish views on American power. APNEWS.COMTrump officials went after dozens of colleges. Now they’re rewriting the rules for all of academiaStudents sit on the lawn near Royce Hall at UCLA in the Westwood section of Los Angeles on April 25, 2019. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong, File)2026-06-04T11:02:27Z WASHINGTON (AP) — A year ago, the White House was unleashing a blitz on higher education. At one campus after another, Trump officials opened investigations and cut federal funding unless schools fell in line with the Republican president’s political agenda. Now, after a campaign that put dozens of universities under investigation, President Donald Trump’s administration is taking a wider approach, moving to rewrite the federal rules that govern all of higher education. Demands that were being pressed on individual schools are being written into the fine print for thousands of U.S. universities.“We’re coming over the higher education system and course correcting,” Nicholas Kent, undersecretary for the Education Department, said in an Associated Press interview. Unlike investigations that target individual campuses, he said the new tactic has power “to affect 6,000 institutions.” The shift comes after federal judges blocked Trump’s administration from making crippling cuts at Harvard and the University of California, Los Angeles. It also follows a mass exodus in civil rights lawyers who traditionally guide investigations against universities. Still, Trump hasn’t backed down from his campaign to end what he calls “wokeness” run amok in academia. Read More Several US agencies propose new rulesOne new rule being proposed by the Education Department would overhaul the system that decides which colleges can receive federal money, known as the accreditation process. Among other changes, the proposal would require accreditors to make sure colleges have “intellectual diversity,” a veiled call for more conservative voices. Many people in higher education are alarmed by a proposal from the Office of Management and Budget that would order agencies to ensure federal grants “advance the President’s policy priorities.” Trump officials would verify that grants aren’t used to promote DEI, “anti-American values” or anything denying “the sex binary in humans,” according to the proposal issued last week. An OMB spokesperson said the rule aims to promote transparency. Another proposal from the General Services Administration would require federal grant recipients, including universities and their contractors, to certify they don’t have DEI policies deemed unlawful by the administration. At least 11 new rules have been proposed at the Education Department, including one aimed at “streamlining the process” to cut money for schools that violate the Trump administration’s interpretation of civil rights law.Making federal rules can take months of debate in humdrum bureaucratic processes. But unlike earlier strategies that tested the limits of White House power, the rulemaking process is a widely accepted route to establish federal policy into law — without needing to go through Congress. Some in higher education welcome the change. Unlike last year’s attacks, the new approach opens the door for a conversation, said Ted Mitchell, president of the American Council on Education, which represents college and university presidents.“We’re playing a game that has rules and referees, and that’s good,” said Mitchell, a former Education Department official under President Barack Obama, a Democrat. “It gives us an opportunity to talk about where we might agree with the administration. That was impossible to do when these were just straight-on attacks.” The administration launches fewer new investigationsMeantime, the Education and Justice departments have announced fewer higher-education investigations, issuing news releases on roughly a dozen at U.S. universities so far this year. In the same span last year, they announced more than 70, according to an AP analysis. The exact number of new investigations is unclear — a public database has not been updated since January 2025.Kent said the Education Department will continue to open investigations as needed, describing it as using a “scalpel to cut out the bad.” But he said colleges have started to come to heel on the administration’s priorities.“Folks realize that it’s a new day and that we’re paying attention,” Kent said. The vast majority of the investigations opened last year are still open. The White House struck deals with Columbia, Brown and a handful of other campuses, but most cases are unresolved with no public update in months. Still, some fights have intensified. The White House has doubled down on battles with Harvard and UCLA after federal judges blocked the administration from cutting off research funding from the campuses. The Justice Department has sued Harvard and UCLA four times since February, alleging that both campuses tolerated antisemitism and that Harvard refused to release admissions data sought by the administration. Share Share Facebook Copy Link copied Print Email X LinkedIn Bluesky Flipboard Pinterest Reddit Read More Admissions cases become a top priorityA White House official said the investigative slowdown is also the result of a mounting focus on college admissions. The administration has been building cases against colleges accused of considering race in admissions decisions even after the Supreme Court struck down affirmative action. Those investigations can take more time because they require large data collections, said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy. Some of those cases are now coming to bear. The Justice Department recently concluded that medical schools at Yale and UCLA discriminated against white and Asian American students by allegedly favoring Black and Latino applicants. The universities have defended their admissions processes, saying they were rigorous and based on merit.Trump officials are taking a hard-line approach against any use of race in admissions, clashing with colleges that invite students to discuss their race in application essays. In its 2023 decision, the Supreme Court said nothing stops schools from considering how applicants’ race speaks to broader qualities.“We are making sure,” Kent said, “that we are elevating our best and our brightest and that we’re not putting the thumb on the scale because of somebody’s skin color.”Higher education has already been changedFacing last year’s blitz, many campuses quietly made changes to avoid scrutiny. Some closed DEI offices. The NCAA moved to limit transgender athletes. Universities from UCLA to Columbia tightened campus protest rules after pro-Palestinian demonstrations were the subject of federal investigations.Research has been scaled back as top schools face continued funding cuts.In the classroom, there’s been a chilling effect as professors fear that what they say or teach could attract federal attention, said Todd Wolfson, president of the American Association of University Professors.Still, he’s optimistic the balance of power is shifting in universities’ favor. Students and faculty members on several campuses built pressure to reject a White House invitation last fall to sign on to aspects of Trump’s agenda in exchange for favorable access to research funding, he said. The AAUP has brought several lawsuits against the administration, including one that stopped funding cuts at UCLA. “The sector is getting its feet under it, and it’s only getting stronger,” Wolfson said. “I can promise you that we will fight them tooth and nail.”___The Associated Press’ education coverage receives financial support from multiple private foundations. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFalcons duo ranked on lower end of NFL's new QB/coach combinationsThe Atlanta Falcons have added some interesting new pieces this offseason. Their top draft picks consisted of an undersized slot cornerback and an undersized slot receiver, and they landed an upgrade at right tackle in free agency.Nothing else the Falcons have one is going to matter if their biggest moves don't pay off, though. That means signing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and bringing in a new front office regime led by head coach Kevin Stefanski. On that score, not everybody thinks it will work out. Over at CBS Sports, Jared Dubin has a new ranking of all the new head coach/quarterback combinations around the NFL. The duo of Tagovailoa and Stefanski only came in at No. 8 on his list out of 12."Given Michael Penix Jr.'s injury issues, assume Tagovailoa gets the first shot under center. That does not necessarily spark optimism for the Falcons. When Tagovailoa was at his best, he succeeded in a very specific set of circumstances created by Mike McDaniel's offense. Things are going to be quite different under Stefanski, who is an excellent offensive coach in his own right but perhaps not the best fit for Tagovailoa's skill set."For context, that's one spot ahead of Malik Willis and Jeff Hafley of the Miami Dolphins, who are projected to have the worst record in the league this season by ESPN. It's one spot below Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy of the Pittsburgh Steelers, which might very well blow up in their faces by Week 7 given how things went between them last time in Green Bay.Then again, this is all speculation and it's very difficult to accurately predict how a previously unseen QB dynamic will go. At the bottom of the list is Deshaun Watson and Todd Monken in Cleveland, and while it would come as a surprise Watson has at least shown in the past that he has elite potential. At the top of the list is the only one we already are familiar with: Josh Allen and former Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady, who's now their head coach. Those two should do well in Buffalo but it's impossible to say this early how it will go with the other 11. If Tagovailoa winds up being a good fit with Stefanski, there's more than enough talent around him to field a top-10 offense. This article originally appeared on Falcons Wire: Tua Tagovailoa, Kevin Stefanski ranked 8 out of 12 new QB/HC combos0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

UNC will need every bit of Hull for a return to Omaha."If USC has a realistic ability to pitch around Owen Hull, it should. The Trojans need to hope they won't have to face Hull with the bases loaded in a high-leverage spot. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFormer Red Sox Star Alex Bregman Breaks Down Early-Season StrugglesFormer Red Sox Star Alex Bregman Breaks Down Early-Season Struggles originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Alex Bregman has yet to make the Boston Red Sox regret losing him.The All-Star third baseman signed a five-year, $175 million deal with the Chicago Cubs after one season in Boston. While he began 2025 on a tear, Bregman is batting .255/.337/.356 with five home runs in 61 games for his new team.Bregman reflected on his early power funk in a conversation with The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma last Friday. The 32-year-old wouldn't attribute the results to a declining average bat speed, which currently sits at 69.7 mph."I really don’t think bat speed has anything to do with it," Bregman said. "I think mechanics are everything, to be honest. I actually think I can move the bat faster and I’m stronger now than I’ve ever been in my entire career. The year I focused on bat speed in 2024 was the worst of my career."Bregman explained that he's getting his foot off the ground too late and "pressing forward too much." That resulted in a 45 percent ground-ball rate in April, which he remedied in May.The two-time World Series champion is batting .304 against fastballs but .155 with a 30.8 percent whiff rate against breaking balls. He's getting thrown more breaking stuff (40.3%) than at any point in his career, but Bregman believes he'll correct that issue once he fixes his swing mechanics."I don’t really think the pitch type matters either," Bregman said. "I saw how there was a piece that we are seeing more breaking balls. I feel like I’ve hit a ton of homers on breaking balls in my career. When I’m mechanically right, I hit homers on fastballs, breaking balls and changeups. Any pitch that you throw."Although Bregman closed May on an 11-game hitting streak, he still has a career-low .313 weighted on-base average and .101 ISO. The 2019 Silver Slugger still believes he can get back on track."It doesn’t really matter who’s on the mound, who I’m facing, what pitch they're throwing," he claimed. 'It’s more so if I’m mechanically correct, I'm able to hit anything. When I dial that in, it'll get scary like it always does. But I gotta dial that in."More MLB: Red Sox Schedule Offers Glimmer Of Hope Vs. Yankees, Rays0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMENG vs NZ 1st Test: Why England players are wearing black armbands at Lord’sEngland’s players are seen wearing black armbands on the opening day of the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s as part of a special tribute to former cricketers who have passed away since the team’s last home international fixture. Before the start of play on Thursday, a moment of silence was observed ahead of the national anthems, with players from both sides joining in paying their respects. The black armbands were worn in memory of several former England cricketers, including Ken Shuttleworth, John Jameson, Barry Knight, Robin Smith, Hugh Morris, Norman Gifford, Eric Russell, Tony Pigott and MJK Smith. The emotional pre-match ceremony also included a tribute to New Zealand great Martin Crowe, marking 10 years since his passing. Crowe remains one of the most influential figures in New Zealand cricket history, and the Lord’s crowd warmly acknowledged his legacy. His daughter, Emma Crowe, rang the traditional five-minute bell before the start of the Test, drawing appreciative applause around the ground.Once the commemorations concluded, attention shifted to the cricket as New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bowl under partly cloudy conditions. The visitors unveiled a formidable pace attack led by Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke. Jamieson and O’Rourke, both towering quicks standing at least 1.97 metres tall, are playing together in a Test for the first time after overcoming long-term back injuries. Nathan Smith, who impressed with eight wickets against Ireland in a recent warm-up match, completed the seam-heavy attack, while Glenn Phillips was preferred to Mitchell Santner.England handed a debut to Emilio Gay, the Durham opener who recently represented Italy in T20 internationals. The hosts also recalled Ollie Robinson, whose last Test appearance came in 2024. Robinson joins captain Ben Stokes, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue in the pace department. The Lord’s Test marks England’s first red-ball outing since their 4-1 Ashes defeat in Australia earlier this year, adding extra significance to the start of the series.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBoston Fleet hire François Méthot as head coachThe Boston Fleet have named François Méthot the team’s new coach.Méthot will become the PWHL club’s third coach in three years following the departure of Kris Sparre, who left Boston after one season — a campaign that saw him named a finalist for PWHL Coach of the Year — to take the top job with the PWHL’s expansion team in Hamilton, Ont. Courtney Kessel was the organization’s first coach.Méthot spent the past three seasons as coach and general manager of the Rochester Junior Americans, a Tier II junior club in the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He has also worked extensively in player development, most notably working with Fleet defender Haley Winn, who is up for Rookie and Defender of the Year honours.“François stood out throughout the process because of his clear vision for our team and commitment to player development, along with his ability to communicate and build strong relationships,” Boston Fleet general manager Danielle Marmer said in a team statement. “He has a proven track record of developing elite players on both the men’s and women’s sides of the game, including NHL and PWHL athletes.”Méthot served as the Hockey Director for the Americans’ youth hockey programs and launched a girls’ hockey program that has since grown to eight teams. He also founded the Rochester Ice Hockey Academy in 2017, where he trains top junior, collegiate and pro players. Before his coaching career, Méthot was the Buffalo Sabres’ draft pick, taken with the 54th selection in the 1996 NHL Draft, and went on to play six AHL seasons followed by 11 years in Germany’s top pro league.“I am thrilled to join the Boston Fleet as head coach,” Méthot said in the team’s release. “This organization has tremendous momentum following an outstanding season, and I’m excited to build upon the strong culture and foundation already in place. I look forward to working alongside this talented group of players and staff as we pursue a championship and continue the proud tradition of excellence that defines Boston sports.”On Wednesday, the Fleet announced that it had protected captain Megan Keller, goalie Aerin Frankel and Winn as part of the PWHL’s expansion process, leaving top forwards such as Alina Müller and Jessie Eldridge available to the league’s newest teams.Starting Friday, each expansion team will have a three-day window to acquire five players through signings and, if necessary, a player selection process. Everyone who knows me knows that great players want to play for Real Madrid and I want to bring them in. I will make it happen. Another top defender will join this summer.”LONDON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 28: Riccardo Calafiori of Arsenal in action during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD8 match between Arsenal FC and FC Kairat Almaty at Arsenal Stadium on January 28, 2026 in London, England. Romano reports that both Calafiori and Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol are among the most appreciated profiles at the club, though both are described as complicated operations.Calafiori’s potential departure from Arsenal would represent a major blow for Mikel Arteta, with the Italy international having established himself as one of the Premier League’s most impressive left-sided defenders since joining from Bologna in 2024.A move to the Bernabeu would also represent a significant statement of intent from Perez, who appears determined to rebuild Madrid’s defensive options comprehensively following the exits of David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Antonio Rudiger.Whether Arsenal would entertain offers for a player considered central to their title ambitions remains another matter entirely.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNew Details Emerge on Jalen Brunson’s Altercation With Spurs Fan After NY Knicks Game 1 WinNew details have emerged on the altercation that New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson had with a San Antonio Spurs fan at courtside after their Game 1 win in the NBA Finals. On Wednesday night, the Knicks quieted a lot of doubters around the NBA. Many around the sport thought the Western Conference champs and Victor Wembanyama were too good and would dominate New York after scoring a Game 7 victory over the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. However, after four hard-fought quarters, the Knicks overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half and ended up earning a 10-point victory in the opening game of the 2026 NBA Finals. And to the surprise of no one, the team’s top star, Jalen Brunson, came up big when they needed it most in the fourth quarter. But there was a surprising moment immediately after the game featuring the three-time All-Star.Spurs fans throw ‘profane flopping’ comments at Jalen Brunson during Game 1 of NBA FinalsJalen Brunson got HEATED with a Spurs fan after the Knicks stole game 1 in San Antonio.Wow 😬 pic.twitter.com/ml4MMwuTcB— SM Highlights (@SMHighlights1) June 4, 2026Following the win, Brunson was seen having a conversation with referee Scott Foster. One would assume it was about some missed calls over the course of the game. However, the Knicks guard could be seen talking to someone at the scorer’s table, and he did not seem happy. It was awkward enough that teammate Jose Alvarado looked to divert his captain away from the conversation.Well, some information has emerged on what the moment was all about. According to NBA on Prime reporter Chris Haynes, the league is looking into two courtside fans who allegedly directed some vulgar and profane “flopping” comments at the Knicks star late in Game 1 of the Finals. “Brunson met with official Scott Foster after the game to address the fans’ behavior, to which the remarks continued,” Haynes wrote in a post on X.Brunson is a cool cucumber and is known for being unfazed no matter the situation. Obviously, those Spurs supporters must have something pretty ridiculous to make him feel he needed to talk to Foster about these particular fans.Related Headlines‘Shut the Hell Up’: Jalen Brunson’s Dad Had Hilarious Game 1 Advice for NY Knicks Coach‘I Deserve Credit’: Stephen A. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMFar-right Christian group praises Trump for ignoring Pride Month & backing a “family-focused” agendaAn influential far-right Christian group that believes LGBTQ+ people are “demonic” is celebrating Donald Trump’s failure to acknowledge Pride Month this year. Intercessors for America (IFA), which works closely with the White House Faith Office and has hosted a prayer call with Trump, wrote on its website that Trump’s “sharp departure from the policies and messaging of the Biden years” reflects a “renewed emphasis on national symbols and family-focused policies.” Related Christian man sues employer for forcing him to see a Pride flag on his way into work The prayer ministry slammed the Biden administration for celebrating Pride throughout June and praised the Trump administration for putting an end to it all through its anti-DEI initiatives and Pride flag bans. “For many Americans, these developments represent a return to government neutrality on cultural issues and a renewed focus on shared national identity,” IFA wrote, adding that for members of the organization, the moment “highlights the importance of praying for our leaders as they navigate cultural debates that continue to shape the nation.” Insights for the LGBTQ+ community Subscribe to our briefing for insights into how politics impacts the LGBTQ+ community and more. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “We prayed for an end to the erosion of biblical truth under President Biden, and those prayers have been answered through President Trump,” the site declared. The group also praised the administration for prompting many corporations to step back from their traditional Pride support, leaving Pride organizations nationwide struggling to fill funding gaps. IFA is clear about its Christian nationalist agenda and its desire to work with federal officials to inject Christianity into the workings of the government. This summer, it is celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary with an event focused on “rededicating our nation to the Lord.” The group also offers an eight-page “action strategy” to combat “the LGBTQ+ Issue.” The pamphlet consists of 12 steps, including “Exposure of Demonic Agendas.” The guide says folks should use it as a “comprehensive prayer strategy for this issue and for the people ensnared in its deception.” The growing intensity of the GOP’s anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric has made it increasingly acceptable on the right to publicly denounce Pride month and LGBTQ+ identities overall. In the latest trend, a slew of red states have designated June as something other than Pride Month in an attempt to make a statement about their states’ lack of support for LGBTQ+ people. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), for example, declared June “Fidelity Month” to celebrate “Cultivating fidelity to God, family, community, and country.” Sanders then shared a Daily Wire story explaining that she made this declaration specifically for the purpose of “Counter-Programming Pride Month.” The declarations about June do nothing to diminish Pride Month, though. They don’t have any legal consequences and can’t forbid anyone from celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride. Moreover, a month can have multiple designations. The point is to show Republicans’ opposition to LGBTQ+ equality, a message that many on the right are hearing loud and clear. APNEWS.COMThe Dow jumps 800 points as oil prices ease, but slumping AI stocks keep Wall Street in checkOptions trader Ravi Bhandari works on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange, Wednesday, June 3, 2026. (AP Photo/Richard Drew)2026-06-04T03:23:23Z NEW YORK (AP) — Most U.S. stocks are rising Thursday as oil prices ease, but slumps for influential artificial-intelligence winners are keeping Wall Street in check. The S&P 500 added 0.2% a day after dropping from its all-time high and coming just short of its longest winning streak in three decades. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 841 points, or 1.7%, as of 11:15 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.2% lower.A clear majority of stocks on Wall Street climbed, including 7 out of every 10 in the S&P 500. They got a boost from a 2.7% drop for the price of Brent crude oil to $95.21 per barrel. That gave back a chunk of its rise this week caused by the latest flare-ups of fighting between Iran and the United States and its allies. The expectation on Wall Street seems to be that the United States and Iran will ultimately agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers. That would hopefully improve the flow of crude, lower oil’s price and remove some of the upward pressure on inflation that’s hurting the world. Such hopes, along with strong profit reports from U.S. companies, helped launch the S&P 500 on a nine-day winning streak that ended Wednesday. Elanco Animal Health rallied 4.9%, and Zoetis, which sells animal vaccines, climbed 5.1% on expectations for stronger profits after the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed Wednesday that the New World screwworm fly has reached south Texas. It’s the first time in decades that the parasite with flesh-eating larvae has threatened the nation’s cattle industry. Toro added 1.7% after the seller of mowers and other equipment became the latest U.S. company to deliver better profit and revenue for the latest quarter than analysts expected. CEO Richard Olson said Toro saw strong demand across its products, and the company raised its forecasts for revenue and profit over its full fiscal year. Read More Several other companies also joined the long list of those topping analysts’ profit expectations, but many nevertheless dropped, particularly in the high-flying technology industry. Broadcom sank 13.8%, even though both profit and revenue for the chip company surpassed analysts’ expectations. CEO Hock Tan said its AI semiconductor revenue more than doubled to $10.8 billion during the quarter and that demand is only getting bigger. He is forecasting AI semiconductor growth to top 200% in the current quarter. Investors, though, may have been expecting even more after Broadcom’s stock came into the day with a 38.5% surge for the year so far. That towered over the already strong 10.3% rise for the S&P 500 index, and Broadcom has grown to become Wall Street’s sixth-biggest stock and one of its most influential.Analysts have been saying AI stocks may have run too high, becoming too expensive, and that the broad U.S. stock market may be set for a slowdown following an unrelenting streak of nine straight winning weeks for the S&P 500, its longest since 2023. Other AI winners likewise gave back some of their big gains. Micron Technology, the latest company to see its total value top $1 trillion because of AI euphoria, fell 6.7%. CrowdStrike Holdings dropped 6.6% even though the cybersecurity company’s profit and revenue for the latest quarter topped analysts’ expectations. CEO George Kurtz said the latest quarter was when “the worlds of cybersecurity and frontier AI collided,” and the company said it’s splitting its stock to make its share price more affordable. But its stock came into the day with a 59.5% surge for the year so far. And analysts said it beat forecasts for some financial measures by less than it usually does. Outside of tech, PVH Corp., the company behind the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger brands, tumbled 22.3% even though it also beat Wall Street’s first-quarter sales and profit targets. CEO Stefan Larsson warned that it’s feeling “the prolonged effects of the Middle East conflict, which is putting pressure on” customers in the region. In the bond market, Treasury yields eased with oil prices. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.46% from 4.49% late Wednesday. That can lessen the pressure on not only stock prices but also the economy in general. Easier interest rates can help smaller companies in particular because many need to borrow money to grow. The Russell 2000 index of the smallest U.S. stocks jumped 1.4% Reports on the U.S. economy, meanwhile, came in mixed. One said that slightly more U.S. workers applied for unemployment benefits last week, which could indicate a slowdown in the relatively solid U.S. job market. Another report said that productivity for U.S. workers improved by less during the first three months of the year than economists expected. In stock markets abroad, indexes ticked higher in Europe following a weaker finish in Asia.South Korea’s Kospi fell 1.8%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 1.5% and Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.4% for some of the larger losses. ___AP Business Writers Matt Ott and Elaine Kurtenbach contributed.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 33 Views 0 Anteprima

APNEWS.COMIn Iowa, water pollution is a health threat that also disrupts summer funA stream cuts through a farm field Thursday, May 7, 2026, near Marshalltown, Iowa. (AP Photo/Brittany Peterson)2026-06-04T13:01:25Z MANCHESTER, Iowa (AP) — Hannah Ray J Childs propelled her kayak into a rapid on Iowa’s Maquoketa River on a recent afternoon and dipped her paddle in the water to swing the front of her boat into the air.She loves to spend her days performing whitewater kayaking acrobatics that dunk her body in the water and give her the “feeling of flying,” she said. The water is where she found community — she even first spotted her husband when he was flipping his kayak in violent water. He in turn taught her how.But she has also gotten sick from the water and now wears nose and ear plugs to minimize risk. Many others question why she spends so much time on the water.“People’s first response when I tell them that I like to kayak and be upside down in the river,” Childs said, “is, ‘Ew, that’s disgusting. Why would you do that?’” Iowa is a particularly stark example of the Midwest’s broader struggle with water pollution. The state is among the top producers of corn, soybeans and hogs, and it boasts a dense network of streams and rivers. Fertilizer and manure on those farms contain nitrates and phosphorus that drain into those waters, making Iowa among the leading contributors to an aquatic dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. Last summer its biggest city imposed water restrictions as it struggled to remove the harmful nitrates from tap water.Water pollution has been a stubborn problem here for decades, affecting not only public health but also people’s ability to enjoy the water in the summer. Iowa’s waterways face significant pollution challenges due to agricultural runoff and sewage. Authorities say many lakes and streams do not meet standards for swimming, drinking or aquatic life. The problem impacts both recreation and public health. (AP video by Brittany Peterson) Algal blooms can create dangerous conditions at beaches, and soil runoff can make the water just feel gross. Bacteria, sometimes from human sewage, keeps teenagers out of streams. More than half the sections of rivers, streams and lakes the state tracked in 2024 did not meet state standards for swimming, drinking or aquatic life. Read More The state has relied on voluntary actions and incentives — not mandates — to reduce nitrate and phosphorus runoff, but it remains far short of its goal. Recently environmental groups sued the Trump administration, alleging that it improperly reversed a Biden-era requirement for Iowa to address nitrate pollution in sections of several rivers. Read More Takeaways from how water pollution in Iowa can deflate summer fun There has been investment and some improvement. In May, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds promoted a $320 million package for water infrastructure and other projects, adding to the nearly $100 million annually that the state allocates to the problem. Phosphorus has diminished some. Better practices such as cover crops, reduced or no tillage to protect the soil and on-farm installations to reduce runoff have substantially increased in recent years. She remembers paddling to find fishing holes with her brothers and exploring streams with friends. She now volunteers to test the river for chemicals and championed a whitewater park in Manchester, her northeast Iowa hometown, to help others enjoy the water. “If we don’t get people invested in their local river, their local community, how are we ever going to ask them to take care of it?” she said.Feelings of loss Mary Swander looks out over Lake Darling, Friday, May 8, 2026, in Brighton, Iowa. It comes from cows, deer and other animals, although in some places human sewage is the biggest problem. Experts say heavy rains are a major risk when they wash away manure — something that climate change will intensify — and improving sewage treatment and leaky septic systems is vital.Nitrates and phosphorus from manure and fertilizer on farms are also at the heart of the problem. Millions of acres of farmland use plastic pipes under fields — a system called tile drainage — to quickly direct water into streams. The nutrients feed algae, leading to lake advisories and threatening drinking water. As recently as several years ago, kids would finish playing tennis on courts baking in the summer sun and, minutes later, be rewarded with a swim in another nearby lake. But parents noticed that some kids were getting itchy skin, and algae appeared at the water’s edge. Word spread, and many wanted their children not to take the risk. Now they tend not to bother, Eyre said.“It does put a dent in the enjoyment of the summer,” he said.Iowa is symbolic of Midwest struggles with water pollutionEnvironmentalists see a state that can’t say no to agriculture. In 2015, Des Moines’ water utility sued three counties over the money it had to spend filtering out nitrates. A judge eventually dismissed the complaint, saying any push to permit and reduce runoff from nearby agriculture was an issue for the Iowa legislature. While Minnesota has mandated vegetation near streams to reduce runoff, Iowa has taken a different approach. It relies on its agriculture and natural resources departments, along with Iowa State University, to develop voluntary strategies that include less fertilizer use, improved crop management and adding wetlands to reduce runoff. The EPA helps states implement their strategies to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus. The agency said it’s important to see agriculture as part of the solution and to understand that improvement takes time. This photo shows farmland Friday, May 8, 2026, near Ely, Iowa. Plus it can take years for farmers to see a return on their investment — if they ever do — when they improve their practices. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrom speed work to dropping weight, how Odell Beckham Jr. earned his latest chance with GiantsEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J — Some might describe the feeling as antsy or restless.Odell Beckham Jr. instead describes his 2025 season away from football as “unsettling in my soul.”“My whole life, for better or worse, is pushing it to the limit …” the again-New York Giants receiver said Wednesday. “I’ve never surrendered or quit or felt like I’ve given up on myself or anything. It just wasn’t sitting with me well.”So Beckham ignored the reality that he’d missed all of the 2025 NFL season, in part as he served a six-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Beckham set aside the lingering knee rehabilitation that limited him to just nine catches with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, and he committed to working through the restrictions that trailed his left ACL tears from October 2020 and February 2022.Yes, Beckham is now 33 years old, hardly spry in pro football years. And yes, he once left the Giants with a bang after a spectacular rookie year and four 1,000-yard seasons in five tries. No matter: On Monday, the Giants signed Beckham. On Wednesday in a practice open to reporters, he was practicing. Beckham warmed up with curtsy lunges and hamstring stretches, and he caught short passes before integrating into routes on air and eventually some team drills.Head coach John Harbaugh, who coached Beckham in Baltimore in 2024, was left opining that Beckham “seems like he’s healthier” than he was in 2024. He looked better in a workout this Monday than he did in an April workout with the Giants, Harbaugh said. And now Beckham will try to earn — he and Harbaugh both emphasized that he’ll need to earn, not be given — a spot on the Giants’ 2026 roster. “The biggest thing is him being in really, really good shape,” Harbaugh said Wednesday. “We talked about this, he would tell you this: ‘You can’t just be OK. You’re Odell Beckham. You’ve got to come out here and you have to be performing at a high level in workout. You’ve got to be performing at a high level in practice. You got to be a guy capable that we can see would have a chance to make a difference in NFL games …“Who knows better what kind of player that is than Odell Beckham?”But how did Beckham work to get back?Harbaugh on Beckham: ‘He’s healthier now’Nic Hill says he and Beckham reconnected to train in Miami back in November before Beckham moved to Phoenix in February for more full-time training.Beckham integrated into a routine that averaged four days a week at EXOS, where Hill has spent the last decade as a performance specialist.Sessions emphasized speed and mobility, factoring in the ideal weight for Beckham to compete in the NFL at 33 years old. While Beckham has competed at 210 with more muscle, Hill said, the benefit of strength didn’t outweigh the detriment to his speed. So since February, they worked to get Beckham down from 210 to the 198 pounds at which the Giants are now listing him.“Making sure that he felt strong, he felt powerful, but he also felt fast and bouncy and fluid,” Hill told Yahoo Sports by phone Wednesday night, so that “he moved really well and he wasn’t too stiff and he could be mobile and rotate.”Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentBack muscles, for example, would interrupt Beckham’s rotational ease. For a player known for acrobatic (and sometimes one-handed!) catches, power was not the primary goal.In a typical four-day week this spring, Beckham worked three linear speed days and one change-of-direction day, Hill said. On linear speed days, exercises emphasized acceleration, top-end speed and transitional speed in sprint and straight-ahead fashions. On change-of-direction days, Beckham worked deceleration — important, but also sufficiently taxing on the body that Hill didn’t want to overprogram it. On high-intensity field days, weight training featured high-intensity work. On high-volume field days, weight training mirrored volume, too. There’s no guarantee Beckham, or any player, can stay healthy. But Hill credits the three-time Pro Bowl receiver with a sharp attunement to his body that could help manage aches and pains that come up.“I do think he's healthier right now,” Harbaugh said, comparing Beckham now to their 2023 Baltimore stint together. “Seems like he's healthier than he was then. That was a few years back. He was dealing with a lot of knee issues back then …“He has to show that he can stay healthy and practice day after day.”In his first stint with the Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. tallied four 1,000-yard seasons in five years. (AP Photo/Adam Hunger)AP Photo/Adam HungerTrying to defy Father Time, Beckham ‘going out on my sword’If Beckham makes the Giants' roster this fall, he’ll be one of the oldest receivers in the league.Only four receivers older than Beckham were active last season, per Pro Football Reference data. None are currently signed to a roster. Rams receiver Davante Adams, who is 49 days younger than Beckham, is the closest in age.But Beckham told Harbaugh he’d rather try and be cut than not try to make the Giants’ 2026 roster.“Listen, I’m going out on my sword either way it goes,’” Beckham said he told Harbaugh. “If that’s what you’ve got to do, you see I’m not best or fit, then by all means I’m good with it. I can live with it.“I can’t live sitting at home not doing it.”He wants to show his 4-year-old son, Zydn: “We never give up in our house. You go after what you believe in.”So in team drills on Wednesday, Beckham raced down the left sideline as quarterback Jaxson Dart targeted him, Beckham tangling with 2023 first-round cornerback Deonte Banks as the duo ultimately fell out of bounds. Later, Beckham lined up left on a second-team snap: After Beckham cut in, Jameis Winston hit his extended arms in the middle of the field.Safety Raheem Layne broke up one pass intended for Beckham with some contact.Another time, with Beckham lined up, Dart targeted Calvin Austin III.“I feel good now,” Beckham said. “I’m fast. I’m moving well. It’s now just about the repetition: Building up your football endurance, back to the football IQ, knowing spatial awareness, knowing where people are at. Things that will come back.“Like everything else, it takes a little time.” Will Beckham also, in his best-case scenario, be able to turn back time? There’s no question Beckham’s last Giants stint was dominant, from when he led the league with 108.8 receiving yards per game as a rookie to when he crossed the 1,000-yard mark every year except when he underwent surgery from a broken ankle. But the bulk of his career 575 catches for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns predated his 30s. He hasn’t hit 50 catches or 600 yards in a season since 2019.Beckham and Hill believe his speed, sure hands and momentum-swinging energy can still influence the NFL in 2026. The Giants are willing to let him try to prove that. Even after missing the entire 2022 NFL season, Beckham chipped in 565 yards and three touchdowns to the 2023 Ravens. Contributions can look different and still be effective. Hill and Beckham insist he hit top speeds of 20 miles per hour while training in Arizona, Hill touting “deceptive speed” for Beckham’s age. “I’m still finding ways to get open,” Beckham said. “It’s not going to be the 195-pound, 2014 No. 1 receiver who knows the ball is coming to him every single time [and could] cheat with a lot of things.“It will be very attentive to detail, very locked in, knowing, ‘This is your opportunity. It’s a different game.“But I’m still ready, you know? 33, it’s a great age.”And it’s great, Beckham feels, to be back.“Taking a step away from the game was what was best for me,” Beckham said. “At a time in my life where you love something so much that it kind of became detrimental, it became bad for me.“Being able to take that time off, be with my son, be with family, re-prioritize what was important to me, knowing that I still love this game so much…“Looking at this stadium, it’s a pretty surreal feeling.”0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDoc Rivers exposes harsh reality of today’s NBA, ‘Everyone flops around now… Players work on it’Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty ImagesDoc Rivers turned one Finals talking point into a league-wide truth, saying modern NBA players no longer treat flopping like an accident. The timing makes the comment sharper. The Spurs and Knicks are already in a series built around physicality, star whistles, and how much contact officials will reward. That is why Rivers’ point lands beyond one matchup. He framed flopping as a learned survival tool in a league where selling contact can change possessions.Doc Rivers makes flopping everyone’s NBA problemPhoto by Emilee Chinn/Getty ImagesFormer NBA head coach Rivers explained to Bill Simmons why he does not see flopping as one player’s issue while naming Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Victor Wembanyama as floppers.“Everyone flops around now. It’s so funny. I think it was (Stephon) Castle they asked, they were trying to get him to say something about Shai. He looked at the guy and said, ‘Everybody flops.’ It’s not taught; players work on it. But it’s not taught really. The players just work on it. I thought Brunson flopped and Karl Anthony Towns flopped every bit as much as Wemby did.”The comment cuts through the usual player-by-player argument. Brunson is a master at stopping, leaning, and forcing defenders into bad angles, while Towns can exaggerate contact when trying to win position inside.Wembanyama brings a different visual problem. Because he is 7-foot-4, any fall looks dramatic, even when the contact is real. The NBA has already treated embellishment as a rulebook issue, with in-game flopping now punished by a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul and one free throw.Stephon Castle made the flopping answer harderCastle’s answer mattered because it refused to isolate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has become the league’s easiest flopping target during the postseason.“I don’t really know how to answer that. I mean, I sell calls too sometimes. I can’t lie. But I mean, it’s really just a field thing, especially in the playoffs. If it’s too egregious, the refs aren’t going to bail you out. They’re going to make the two teams, they’re going to make the better team win.”Shai has faced scrutiny for how often he hits the floor on drives and fouled shot attempts. Tyrese Haliburton also recently said players are being taught to sell contact, which supports Rivers’ broader point about how young players learn the craft. That does not mean every fall is fake. Brunson absorbs contact on nearly every drive, Towns plays through crowded paint touches, and Wembanyama’s frame makes balance a constant battle. The issue is that all three also understand the modern whistle. If falling, snapping the head back, or pausing after contact helps create a call, players are going to use it.Rivers’ harsh reality is not that one star is cheating the game. It is that the NBA’s best players are smart enough to know flopping has become part of the game.Read more:Despite losing Game 1, Victor Wembanyama reaches a Kobe Bryant NBA playoff recordNBA announces lifetime ban for fan who ran onto Finals court for selfie with Victor WembanyamaNBA history shows New York Knicks winning Game 1 of Finals is good news for San Antonio Spurs0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMitch Johnson reveals what crushed Spurs in NBA Finals openerMitch Johnson reveals what crushed Spurs in NBA Finals opener originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. For much of Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs looked in control of Game 1. They built a double digit lead and forced New York to spend most of the evening playing from behind. Every time the Knicks appeared ready to make a push, San Antonio found another answer. By the middle of the third quarter, the Spurs had stretched their advantage to 14 points. That should have been enough to create real separation. Instead, New York remained close enough to keep believing. The reason appeared almost every time the Knicks missed a shot.San Antonio would force a difficult possession. New York would miss. Then the possession continued when the Knicks grabbed another rebound. One extra chance became two. Two became three. Before long, the Knicks were collecting points from possessions that should have ended much earlier. The effect slowly changed the game.San Antonio kept scoring enough to hold the lead. What it could not do was pull away. Every offensive rebound erased part of the work the Spurs had just completed on defense. That became increasingly important as the game moved into the fourth quarter. The Knicks never needed a huge comeback because they never drifted far enough behind. New York remained within striking distance despite spending much of the night trailing. That reality became obvious during the final two minutes. The Knicks did not erase a massive deficit late in the game. They simply took advantage of a score that remained within reach because San Antonio never finished possessions consistently enough throughout the night. Then came the sequence everyone will remember.Victor Wembanyama made a free throw with 2:16 remaining to give San Antonio a 95-94 lead. The Spurs were still in position to win. Moments later, New York grabbed another offensive rebound. Jalen Brunson followed with a 3-pointer and everything changed drastically. The Knicks closed the game on an 11-0 run. Afterward, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson pointed toward the problem that had been building all night."Felt like some of that was bad offense on our part," Johnson said. "The offensive rebounds crushed us, 23 second-chance points. We're up at one point, get them to miss."The final run decided the score. And the rebounds made the final run possible.By the time New York took control in the closing minutes, the groundwork had already been laid over the previous three quarters.More NBA News:Bold Knicks in 6 call gets walked back hard after seeing this from Victor Wembanyama and Spurs10 of 13 analysts agree on one thing about the NBA Finals — and Knicks fans won't like itVictor Wembanyama at center of chaos as one professional wrestler fires back over MVP disrespect claimVictor Wembanyama receives bold Knicks reality check from this NBA legend and it’s interestingThe surprising reason one Knicks star finds it ‘cool’ if Victor Wembanyama guards him0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNapoli President leaves De Bruyne decision to Allegri but warns: ‘Plenty of footballers out there’Napoli President leaves De Bruyne decision to Allegri but warns: ‘Plenty of footballers out there’Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis says that it will be up to Napoli’s next head coach to decide what to do with Kevin De Bruyne, who said that he was ‘happy’ to see Antonio Conte leave the club, but has warned the Belgian that ‘there are plenty of footballers in the world’.De Bruyne joined Napoli on a free transfer at the end of his 10-year spell with Manchester City in the Premier League last summer, and though there was much excitement for the Belgian’s arrival in Serie A, he suffered a serious hamstring injury in mid-October, which kept him out of action until March. In the end, De Bruyne was only fit enough for 18 Serie A appearances in 2025-26, but even in that time, he did not enjoy the style of football that he and his teammates were being made to play under Conte. When asked in a recent interview whether he was ‘happy’ to see Conte leaving the club at the end of the 2025-26 season, De Bruyne said: “For me, yes. As far as I am concerned, he was not obliged to stay. There were promises made last summer on the way that we would be playing, but at the end of the day not much of it happened.“Obviously it was difficult for me because Conte has a very different vision of football to mine. In truth, I never had the opportunity to play in my preferred position. In any case, I always tried to give my all for the team.“We played very defensively. If you try to win every game by a one-goal margin with a 4-5-1 formation, you play a certain type of football. At the start of the season, we sat back even deeper.“Our centre-forward scored just 10 goals, so you know the statistics are not going to be great…”NAPLES, ITALY – OCTOBER 25: Kevin De Bruyne of SSC Napoli battles for possession with Hakan Calhanoglu of FC Internazionale during the Serie A match between SSC Napoli and FC Internazionale at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on October 25, 2025 in Naples, Italy. (Photo by Francesco Pecoraro/Getty Images)What happens next for De Bruyne and what does De Laurentiis make of it?De Bruyne’s statements have led to speculation over his future in Naples. Conte has now left, but he is set to be replaced by Massimiliano Allegri, who is famed for his defensive-minded approach which might not please the six-time Premier League winner. It also remains to be seen whether De Bruyne will face any form of punishment from his employers given the disruptive statements he made about the departing Conte, who had won Napoli their fourth ever Serie A title the year prior.De Laurentiis, speaking at a press conference on Thursday, insisted that it will be down to Napoli’s next head coach (widely expected to be Allegri, even though De Laurentiis couldn’t name him for legal reasons), to decide what to do with De Bruyne.Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis arrives for the screening of the film “Freaks Out” presented in competition on September 8, 2021 during the 78th Venice Film Festival at Venice Lido. We’ll see what the new coach thinks of it. If someone has to leave, they will leave. What’s the problem? There are plenty of footballers in the world.”0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFalcons QB listed among players who could be benched in 2026For the fifth year in a row, the Atlanta Falcons could enter the season with a new starting quarterback. The team is having an open competition between Michael Penix Jr. and veteran Tua Tagovailoa for the QB1 job.Tagovailoa seems to have the early advantage being the healthier of the two quarterbacks, and his veteran experience could help him secure the job. Nonetheless, the Falcons are going to make sure the best man wins the job. The national media seems to be convinced that it's Tagovailoa's gig to lose, but that doesn't mean we won't see both quarterbacks in 2026. In fact, Tua was listed as one of Bleacher Report's eight quarterbacks who could be benched this season. "Another significant injury would quickly open the door for Penix or Trevor Siemian, as would a stretch of poor play," wrote B/R's Kristopher Knox. "Atlanta doesn't have much invested in the former Miami Dolphins starter, and if Tagovailoa can't deliver a playoff run, the Falcons will give Penix another chance to prove he can be the long-term answer. Of course, if Tagovailoa and Penix both battle injuries and/or underwhelm, Siemian could end up steering the ship down the stretch while the Falcons eye that 2027 QB class."Tagovailoa was benched late in the 2025 season by the Miami Dolphins, leading to his release over the offseason. The Falcons were able to land Tua for the veteran minimum, which was a savvy move that gives the team another starting-caliber QB without paying an arm and a leg (aka the Kirk Cousins contract). Both Penix and Tagovailoa have dealt with serious injuries throughout their careers, although they were very different in nature. Tagovailoa suffered multiple serious concussions over a short span, which some believed caused his play to suffer in Miami.Meanwhile, Penix is rehabbing from another significant knee injury that cut his 2025 season short. The former first-round pick has been working hard to get back on the field. Penix even surprised fans by participating in the first two weeks of OTAs.Tagovailoa is still in the driver's seat, though, and the fact that Stefanski has no prior ties to Penix could work in Tua's favor. However, we wouldn't overlook Arthur Blank's input on this decision either. Penix is a former top-10 selection who's entering just his third NFL season. The former Washington QB was having arguably his best game of the year before suffering a partially torn ACL against the Carolina Panthers. Atlanta may want to see if Penix can pick up where he left off. Ideally, the Falcons will pick a starter and stick with him for the duration of the season. If not, we could be in for another long year of the team playing musical chairs with the two quarterbacks. Last season, the Browns never seemed to settle on a quarterback, switching from Joe Flacco to Dillon Gabriel, and eventually to Shedeur Sanders. The Falcons did the same thing with Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke in 2023, and it's something the fans would likely choose to forget.Hopefully, Stefanksi learned from his time in Cleveland and sticks with one quarterback in Atlanta. This article originally appeared on Falcons Wire: Atlanta Falcons: Tagovailoa listed among QBs who could be benched0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 32 Views 0 Anteprima

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDiana Shnaider’s French Open Style Is UnmissableHaving come on strong in this year’s French Open, Diana Shnaider’s explosive left-handed forehand and double-handed backhand aren’t her only signatures. The Russian-born player, who is recognizable for her colorful headscarves, is squaring off against Maja Chwalińska of Poland Thursday. Shnaider opted for a repeat look, wearing the same orange headscarf and black Yonex tennis dress that she wore Wednesday to defeat the WTA’s top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. As for her French Open strategy, Shnaider told reporters earlier this week that she was “trying to go match by match.”The Yonex-sponsored athlete was unmissable in an orange ribbed headscarf that accented the orange and turquoise trim on her black tennis dress with a leathery-looking pleated skirt. It also coordinates with the red clay courts at Roland-Garros. Born in Zhigulevsk, Russia, Shnaider started playing tennis at the age of 4 and was training under coach Samvel Minasyan in Moscow by the age of 8. After a stint at North Carolina State University in 2022, she competed in her first Grand Slam tournament the following year at the Australian Open. Repped by Topnotch Management, the former Adidas-sponsored athlete has an endorsement deal with the sports media content company First & Red. Her career earnings to date are $5.17 million including $952,112 in prize earnings. This year women’s single winner at the French Open will take home 2,800,000 euros, or $3.25 million. Her signature headscarf was something that she started wearing years ago to shield the sun. Shnaider’s parents were concerned that the fair-haired daughter would get sunburned on the courts, but caps and visors reportedly obstructed her view. So Shnaider opted for a headscarf that they bought in a supermarket. By 2023, Shnaider was outsourcing the design of her favorite accessory, by buying the material for a seamstress to design. However, for Wednesday’s upset victory, she appeared to wear a ribbed one with the Yonex logo on it. That is the flavor, more so than the pale green color. Hoping to reward herself after an early round win with pistachio mochi ice cream, Shnaider told reporters that she had to settle on vanilla and chocolate macaroons, because the mochi had been wiped out, as well as the pistachio macaroons.Shnaider, whose favorite movie is “Don’t Back Down,” faced controversy earlier in the tournament, when the Ukrainian player Oleksandra Oliynykova criticized the Russian players. In response, Shnaider told reporters, “I’m here just to play tennis, not talking about Instagram or video likes or anything else.” Shnaider’s take on a headscarf is more like a bandana than the traditional headscarves that first became popular with Russian women who had previously worn embroidered linen scarves over a small hat. Aside from being practical to shield the elements, they were a requirement for women to enter a church. During Soviet times, the standard uniform for women working in factories and on collective farms included a headscarf to adhere to health and safety requirements. Through the years, a headscarf was also a signal of a marital status and specific occasions such as a celebration versus a church service. The look remains popular including with fashionable Russian women, with the Moscow region producing traditional styles and the Orenburg area creating knitted ones for winter. Some associate the headscarf with the image of a girl wearing one on the wrapper of the Alenka milk chocolate bar. Introduced in the 1960s and known as the national chocolate of the day, Alenka was named for the daughter of the first female in space Valentina Tereshkova. But the model for the wrapper’s illustration, Elena Gernias, later sued the chocolate company unsuccessfully seeking financial compensation for the use of her image.Best of WWDBest Hollywood Heroine Beauty in Cannes Film Festival HistoryBest Hollywood Heroine Beauty at Cannes Film Festival Over the YearsThe Top Hair Trends on the Met Gala Carpet Through the YearsSign up for WWD's Newsletter. WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMOrganizer of Omaha’s first Pride march in 1985 explains how much things have changedLGBTQ Nation will be sharing your pictures of Pride throughout May and June. Submit your own if you want to be included! For Jim Gau, a veteran of Omaha’s very first Pride march in 1985, the city’s Heartland Pride event last year was “emotional.” “We went from just a few people cheering and lots of jeers and hate speech 40 years ago, to thousands of people cheering last year. I looked out as we opened the parade, and I cried,” he tells LGBTQ Nation. Related “She loves me for me”: This small town trans man proposed to his wife at an Easter egg hunt Gau was among a group of eight Pride pioneers – those who helped organize the city’s first Pride demonstration in 1985 – who led the Heartland Pride parade down Capitol Avenue in the Nebraska state capital in 2025. Three of them met in junior high school. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “We are still good friends and good trouble,” he says.Looking back four decades, the view down the parade route in Omaha was very different. The first march was a Candlelight Pride Walk along 16th Street downtown. About 60 people showed up that night — Jim and his fellow Pride pioneers among them — in memory of those who had died in the HIV/AIDS epidemic. “We started with 30 people in a park,” Gau says. “It wasn’t safe.” “Some people back in 1985 marched with paper bags over their heads, afraid of community retribution. There were no Pride flags, no floats. Some people were assaulted.” But they returned every year, says Gau, and the movement grew stronger. In 1988, the first official Pride Parade and Festival was held at Turner Park in midtown Omaha. Later, the march moved back downtown, to Lewis & Clark Landing on the Missouri River, to accommodate the growing festival. Attendance topped 10,000, and more than 50 floats and community organizations marched for Heartland Pride’s 25th anniversary. Now the event regularly draws thousands of participants and spectators from across Nebraska and neighboring Iowa. Corporate sponsors — while fewer than in past years for Heartland Pride, like Pride organizations everywhere in 2026 — include hometown insurance giant Mutual of Omaha. The org offers scholarships for LGBTQ+ students in community colleges, universities, and trade schools, and diversity and inclusion remain at the heart of Heartland’s mission to “Live with Pride.” From his perch on the float leading last year’s parade, Gau was struck by the march’s evolution. “We took 20 city blocks in Omaha in 2025,” he marveled. Like the sign on the Pride pioneers’ float that day said, “Some lost jobs, some lost family, some lost everything” in those fraught, early years of Omaha Pride. Maybe the most emotional moment for Gau at the 2025 march was when he was approached by a man he didn’t know. “The man came up and hugged me. He said, ‘Thank you for what you did 40 years ago, so my teenage son can be who he is today: happy and proud of who he is.”“That was a monumental moment in my life,” Gau said.
