SPORTS.YAHOO.COMShould Red Sox Swing Trade For Giants Breakout Star?Should Red Sox Swing Trade For Giants Breakout Star? originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox are not living up to expectations so far, but in what is a weak American League, they are far from out of the race. The Red Sox entered Friday just 3 1/2 games back of a wild-card spot. They will eventually get Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet back and will have a chance to make a late push. They still need some of their underperformers to step up, and Caleb Durbin's recent surge is a good sign of that. However, they still need a right-handed bat they can trust. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Red Sox are aggressively searching for a right-handed bat and are willing to take on a bad contract to do so. Well, they may not have to take on a bad contract at all.Depending on how willing the Red Sox are to add a talented right-hander, they could target Casey Schmitt of the San Francisco Giants. He is having a breakout year, and the Giants could be sellers at the deadline.Schmitt has an .844 OPS and has already hit a career high of 13 homers. He can play shortstop and second base, and could be a great addition to the Red Sox. He may hit even better playing at Fenway Park.He would not be cheap, as he is under club control through 2029. However, if the Red Sox are willing to take on a bad contract, they may be willing to give up some prospects for a good one.More MLB: Why Isn't There More Buzz Around Upcoming Red Sox Vs. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSteelers insider suggests Alex Highsmith situation is bigger than previously believedAlex Highsmith's mysterious absence from Day 2 of the Pittsburgh Steelers' mandatory minicamp received an update, as one respected insider believes the team isn't telling the whole story.According to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Highsmith's mysterious absence — which was reported as an "illness" — may not be the complete truth."Hey, listen, I will leave open the possibility that he actually was sick, but it would be highly coincidental, and I have some other information that tells me that probably is not the case," Fittipaldo said via 93.7 The Fan. "It’s nothing I can discuss, though. … I would be speculating that that is how he feels, but just put yourself in his shoes. He’s been a starter since his rookie season in 2020. Good soldier, good community guy, produces on the field, led the team in sacks last season. How do you deal with that mentally if Nick Herbig comes in and takes that $100 million deal? Anyone in that circumstance would be a little bit upset."Steelers Senior Director of Communications Burt Lauten attempted to clear up Highsmith's absence by claiming the defender was sick and would "continue to be at the practice facility."If Fittipaldo's report is accurate, Steelers fans may be in for another hold-in when training camp rolls around. But it's hard to imagine the team handing out another contract extension to another edge rusher after giving Nick Herbig a new deal worth $100 million. For up-to-date Steelers coverage, including any offseason moves, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers' Alex Highsmith may be 'upset' with team, says insider0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow much FIFA will pay clubs for every player at the 2026 World CupPhoto by Eva Marie Uzcategui - FIFA/FIFA via Getty ImagesFIFA will pay clubs at least $5,000 per player per day for releasing footballers to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, with the final figures to be confirmed after the tournament. This payment comes under FIFA’s expanded Club Benefits Programme, which now totals $355m for the 2026 cycle.Although the daily tournament rate is lower than the $10,950 paid during Qatar 2022, the overall fund has grown because clubs are now compensated for both World Cup qualifying matches and the finals themselves. How much FIFA will pay clubs per player during the 2026 World CupPhoto by Erica Denhoff/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesClubs will receive a minimum of $5,000 per day for each player released to the World Cup.World Cup daily payment: $5,000 per player, per day.Minimum tournament payment: around $160,000 per player.Payment if a player reaches the final: around $285,000 per player.Qualifier payment: $2,362 for every qualifying match in which a player was named in a matchday squad.Total 2026 fund: $355m.Final tournament allocation: $250m.Qualifying match allocation: $100m.Administration and wider club football allocation: $5m.Qatar 2022 comparison: $10,950 per player, per day, from a total fund of $209m.The payment is calculated on a per-player, per-day basis. It runs from the mandatory release period through to the day after the player’s national team exits the tournament. This means the final amount depends on how many players a club sends and how long each national team remains in the competition.FIFA has said the precise figures will be finalised after the tournament, once the total number of player-days is known. Why FIFA’s total club payment has risen to $355mThe qualifying element is the key change. For the first time, clubs can be paid even if a player was involved in World Cup qualifying but does not appear at the final tournament. This is why the 2026 programme is larger overall, despite the daily finals rate being lower than it was in Qatar. The 2026 World Cup will also be a bigger event, with 48 teams and 104 matches spread over a longer tournament window. More teams and more matches mean a wider pool of players and more clubs involved. The simple answer is that FIFA will pay clubs at least $5,000 per player per day during the World Cup. The more important change is that clubs are now being paid for the qualifying process too, which makes this a broader compensation system than the one used in previous tournaments.Read more:What Harry Kane has now told Thomas Tuchel about Ivan Toney in privateUS Soccer turns to AI scouting as Pochettino prepares for World CupNeymar injury update: Carlo Ancelotti offers Brazil hope ahead of World Cup opener0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COM“Christian fascist” influencer says Pride flag is anti-white. Here’s why he’s wrong.Self-described “white nationalist” and “Christian fascist” broadcaster John Doyle published a video on Tuesday claiming that the progress Pride flag mocks Christianity and is deliberately meant to represent “every identity incapable of producing white children.” Neither claim is true – and here’s why. Doyle’s video makes numerous claims (most of which are easily debunked below), but he notes that the original Pride flag’s creator, Gilbert Baker, was a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, an activist group of drag nuns, who (according to Doyle), “literally go around mocking Christians, and specifically Catholics, by dressing up and publicly disrespecting their beliefs and practices.” Related Trump’s ex-border chief speaks alongside neo-Nazis at pro-fascism summit Doyle also claims that the black and brown stripes were recently added to the Pride flag to include every identity “incapable of producing white children, which just so happens to be the biggest enemy of the [queer] regime.” The “Pride flag” exists to mock God’s promise of mercy and love to Noah and also to encompass every identity incapable of producing white children (the thing most hated by the empire it represents) btw pic.twitter.com/4cboGRpUGg— John Doyle (@JohnDoyle) June 2, 2026 Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today The LGBTQ+ movement isn’t anti-white: The black and brown stripes were added to the six-striped rainbow Pride flag to denote the historic contributions queer people of color, as well as the ongoing fight for racial justice and inclusivity. That is, the newly updated flag isn’t anti-white, it’s anti-white supremacy — and if Doyle feels threatened by that, that’s quite telling. Black, brown, and queer people have (white) children: While Doyle says that the progress Pride flag represents every identity “incapable of producing white children,” white queers birth children quite often; LGBTQ+ families of color also raise children (including white ones) through old-fashioned intercourse, IVF, adoption, and surrogacy. These parents tend to love their children very much, and numerous studies show that these kids thrive. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence aren’t a mockery of Christianity: Many conservative Christians claim that the drag activists “mock” Christianity by dressing up as nuns. But the group actually protests anti-LGBTQ+ religious bigotry, encourages everyone’s free expression, and also provides “community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment,” according to their website. Yes, the Sisters have irreverent events, like their annual Sexy Jesus contest in San Francisco each Easter (which plays upon the notably erotic images of Jesus that gay artists and Christians have made for centuries). But their website also links to resources promoting suicide prevention, justice for Black lives, domestic violence shelters, mental health support, trans-affirming healthcare, addiction recovery, medication access, queer cultural resources, as well as links to virtual museum tours, online classes, and local events. If anything, many Sisters believe that it’s hateful, anti-LGBTQ+ faith leaders who make a mockery of Christ’s message of radical love and acceptance. The rainbow is not an explicitly Christian symbol: The rainbow belongs to all of us. Yes, there’s a story in the Bible in which God drowns almost all living creatures on Earth and then puts a rainbow in the sky as a sign of his promise to never again destroy the earth with a flood. But lots of religions that pre-date Christianity also use the rainbow as a symbol, including Greek myths about the rainbow goddess Iris; pre-Islamic Arabic and Hindu myths about the rainbow being the bow of storm gods; Thai and Viking myths about a rainbow bridge connecting the mortal and godly realms; aboriginal myths about rainbow serpents encircling the sky; and Chinese myths about a goddess using multicolored stones to patch the heavens. LGBTQ+ Pride isn’t about flaunting “sin”: Numerous Christian and other religious congregations and faith leaders welcome LGBTQ+ people and celebrate Pride month. That’s because the month and its celebrations aren’t about celebrating “sin,” they’re about refusing to feel the shame that bigots have tried to make us feel over centuries of violent religious and institutional oppression — shame about who we are, not just what we do. John Doyle is a straight-up racist bigot Doyle reportedly organized a “Stop the Steal” rally alongside Nick Fuentes. Fuentes has referred to Black people as n-words, said that “the GOP is run by Jews, atheists, and homosexuals,” described Adolf Hitler as “really fu**ing cool,” has cast doubt that the Holocaust happened, said “perfidious Jews” must “be given the death penalty” after “we take power,” and said, “A lot of women want to be raped… They want a guy to beat the s**t out of them.” Doyle has said “it wouldn’t be the worst thing” if New York or Washington D.C. (which are predominantly non-white), were wiped out by “nuclear hellfire.” He has attacked figures like Martin Luther King, Jr., saying that “being assassinated was like the best thing that could happen to him,” and has threatened college students with Christian fascist violence. He has also supported mass shootings at LGBTQ+ bars, and has made numerous statements fomenting anti-LGBTQ+ misinformation and hatred. Doyle has over 363,000 YouTube subscribers, over 105,000 Instagram followers, and over 136,400 X followers. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC) Junior Tafa might regret stepping back into the octagon so soon. The Australian light heavyweight came in over the limit for his fight with Iwo Baraniewski at UFC Vegas 118, stepping to the scale at 206.5 pounds, a half pound heavy, at Friday’s official weigh-ins. Even after stripping down and weighing in again with a box around him, Tafa still failed to make weight. It should be noted Tafa accepted the Baraniewski fight on a little over two weeks’ notice as a replacement for Billy Elekana, who withdrew for undisclosed reasons. This is Tafa’s second fight in 35 days following his knockout over Kevin Christian at UFC Perth in May,It is not yet known if his bout with Baraniewski will proceed at a catchweight and, if so, what percentage of his purse will be forfeited as penalty.Fortunately for the UFC, there was no issue with the rest of the main card, including welterweight headliners Belal Muhammad and Gabriel Bonfim. Both made use of the one-pound allowance for a non-title fight, registering at 170.5 pounds.A former UFC champion, Muhammad is badly in need of a win after losing consecutive fights to Ian Machado Garry and Jack Della Maddalena. Muhammad is currently No. 7 at welterweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings, with No. 15 Bonfim eager to take his spot.Bonfim is 4-0 since suffering his lone defeat to Nicolas Dalby in November 2023. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPanthers' top pick says he'll be ready to play multiple positionsThey say the best ability is availability, especially in the NFL. Usually, that means staying healthy and on the field—and the more a player can do for their team, the better. The Carolina Panthers' first-round draft pick is exemplifying that idea with his attitude and versatility. Monroe Freeling mostly played left tackle during his time at Georgia, but he did put in some time at right tackle as well—totaling 257 snaps there prior to his final collegiate campaign. While the plan may be to still put Freeling on the blindside, he has been practicing a bit on the right at organized team activities. Freeling says he's he'll be whatever the Panthers need him to be, per team reporter Kassidy Hill:"I'm really just a jack of all trades. Whatever they need me, I'll be," Freeling stated. "So if they tell me to go right, I'm going right, I'm not going to have any complaint. I'm going to do my best to be my best right tackle. If they told me to go left, I'm going to do exactly the same thing. So, whenever they need me to be, I'm going to be."For now, Taylor Moton is still projected to start at right tackle—where he has only missed a grand total three games since he was drafted nine years ago. Moton will turn 32 years old before this coming season begins, though—and the Panthers will need a contingency plan for his inevitable retirement. As for the other side of the offensive line, starter Ickey Ekwonu is currently recovering from the torn patellar tendon he sustained in January. So while the right may be an option for him, Freeling should continue to battle veteran free-agent signee Rasheed Walker for Ekwonu's spot early on.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers OT Monroe Freeling: I'm a 'jack of all trades'0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMContrasting paths, same destination - who will win French Open final?Mirra Andreeva (left) is eighth in the world rankings, while opponent Maja Chwalinska is down at 114 [Getty Images]The career trajectories of French Open finalists Mirra Andreeva and Maja Chwalinska could not be more contrasting.Russian eighth seed Andreeva is a teenage sensation who earned her first WTA Tour win as a 15-year-old in 2023, reaching the Wimbledon fourth round just two months later.Becoming a Grand Slam champion has felt like a question of when, and not if, ever since."I'm getting closer - I'm getting a little bit more mature with every match I play," said 19-year-old Andreeva.Qualifier Chwalinska's path to Saturday's showpiece at Roland Garros has been less predictable. The 24-year-old from Poland has never received direct entry into the main draw of a major and had only come through Grand Slam qualifying in two of her previous 14 attempts. With little pedigree, 114th-ranked Chwalinska's breakthrough is a lesson in what can be achieved through dedication and perseverance."I feel like I'm in the bubble. I don't know what's going on. I'm just very happy to be here," said Chwalinska, who was a 500-1 outsider at the start of the tournament.[BBC]The teenage sensation benefitting from growing maturityWhat Andreeva has achieved over the past fortnight is underlined by the historical statistics. The third-youngest Roland Garros finalist this century behind 18-year-old Coco Gauff in 2022 and 17-year-old Kim Clijsters in 2001, Andreeva is bidding to become the youngest French Open champion since Monica Seles in 1992.Born in Siberia and trained in France, Andreeva has been touted for greatness since her breakthrough at the 2023 Madrid Open - where her talent and fearlessness led to praise from Andy Murray. Her progress has accelerated since appointing former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez as her coach in 2024.Spain's Martinez says it was clear from the moment she started working with Andreeva that she was a star in the making.'If I won then so can she' - the Wimbledon champion nurturing AndreevaAfter reaching the French Open semi-finals two years ago, Andreeva continued to make great strides in 2025, winning two WTA 1000 titles and cracking the world's top five.A tempestuous streak on the court has, however, served as a reminder of her tender age. Some of her behaviour - notably swiping away balls towards the crowd - has come close to crossing the line and she combusted against home wildcard Lois Boisson in a febrile French Open quarter-final last year. But the calm manner in which she powered past Ukrainian 15th seed Marta Kostyuk in Thursday's semi-finals - a match played against a backdrop of political tension - was a sign of her increasing maturity."At some points, I was listening [to Martinez], but at the same time sticking to what I had been doing," said Andreeva, who has not faced a top-10 ranked opponent."Now I feel like I completely trust what my team tells me and it's easier for me. Whatever they tell me, I will just do it."The qualifier seamlessly adapting to the biggest stageChwalinska has not beaten anyone ranked inside the world's top 20, but has knocked out Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen and former French Open semi-finalist Maria Sakkari [Getty Images]Chwalinska's remarkable run means Emma Raducanu's place as the only qualifier to win a Grand Slam title - which the Briton achieved at the 2021 US Open - is under threat. If Chwalinska beats Andreeva, it will rank as high as Raducanu in terms of major victories that no-one saw coming. Most of Chwalinska's career has been spent on the lower rungs of the professional ladder, travelling around trying to make ends meets.Even after winning her second-round match in Paris, Chwalinska feared she could not afford to pay for more nights in her hotel.Without sponsors of her own, a Polish company that backs six-time major champion Iga Swiatek - a childhood friend of Chwalinska - stepped in to cover the costs."Let's not pretend someone expected it. I was outside the top 100 and now I'm in the final of a Grand Slam. It is hard to process," she said. How shock French Open finalist's tiny tattoo gives meaning to big runIn 2021, Chwalinska took an indefinite break from tennis after losing in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon.Chwalinska was suffering from a depression that left her feeling lifeless and unable to get out of bed. She had no idea when - or even if - she would return.Four months later she felt well enough to make a comeback, but the journey to the top has been a slow burner.Chwalinska was playing tiny tournaments in Italian cities Brescia and Bari after losing in French Open qualifying last year. Now she is preparing to walk out in front of 15,000 people on Court Philippe Chatrier, as millions more watch on from around the world."I always really enjoyed playing in front of people, even on the ITF circuit. I always enjoyed tournaments where people were interested," Chwalinska added."The stage has changed, but honestly, I just want to win."Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

APNEWS.COMTrump says he wants his new acting director of national intelligence to cut the officeDirector of the Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte, speaks to reporters at the White House, July 24, 2025, in Washington. (AP Photo/Julia Demaree Nikhinson, File)2026-06-05T17:53:40Z ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Donald Trump said on Friday that he wants Bill Pulte, his new acting director of national intelligence, to cut the office, which has already been significantly scaled back during his second term.Trump noted that the size of the office as been “way too high for way too long” and that “if he cut, I wouldn’t mind.”“Bill Pulte is very good, he’s very talented,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One as he traveled to Wisconsin. The Republican president said in an earlier interview with The Wall Street Journal that he has asked Pulte to start the process of firing employees. In the interview with the Journal, the president says he has already conveyed his view to Pulte, the incoming acting DNI, who has served as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency but apparently has no national security expertise. “I’d like to see it smaller. I think there are a lot of people in there that shouldn’t be there,” Trump said, which the Journal said was in reference to intelligence community officials who had served in the Democratic administrations of Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama. Trump told the Journal that he wants Pulte to “start the process” of firing personnel and that the eventual permanent director of national intelligence should continue it. The president has indicated that he would not formally nominate Pulte for the position. The temporary appointment has now snarled the renewal of a critical national security surveillance program on Capitol Hill, with Democrats key to the vote pointing out that they did not trust Pulte — whose office oversees 18 intelligence agencies — to help administer the surveillance program. Under Pulte’s successor, Tulsi Gabbard, the DNI office had already taken steps to scale back its size. In August, the Trump administration said that the office’s budget would be cut by more than $700 million per year, while slashing the size of its workforce. At the time, Gabbard said the office had become “bloated and inefficient” while she announced the roughly 40% workforce reduction.Gabbard resigned last month after revealing her husband’s cancer diagnosis.___Kim reported from Washington. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSick and sleepless Arnaldi pulls out of French Open semifinal after night of vomitingPARIS (AP) — Having spent a large part of the night vomiting and deprived of sleep, Matteo Arnaldi was in no shape to fight for a spot in the French Open final. The 104th-ranked Arnaldi withdrew before the first all-Italian men's Grand Slam semifinal against Flavio Cobolli on Friday at Roland Garros.Arnaldi believed he caught a virus and said he could not play competitive tennis.“I think it’s a virus because I was feeling pretty cold,” he said. “I had a fever. I just know that I can’t move, and I can’t eat, and I can’t drink.”His withdrawal handed Cobolli a place in Sunday's final against second-seeded Alexander Zverev. Arnaldi said he felt fine during practice on Thursday, until he had dinner.“I started to feel so-so with my stomach,” he told a press conference also attended by Cobolli, who sat at the other end of the interview desk.“I was, like, ‘All right, just didn’t digest very well.’ But then I woke up at 1 a.m. and I started vomiting. Then I tried to sleep. I couldn’t sleep at all. At 6, 7 a.m. I vomited again. This time was pretty bad.”He summoned a doctor to his room and took medicine.“I was hoping that it would just be something from dinner or something like that, but then throughout the day I couldn’t eat," Arnaldi said. "Every time we did something or would drink, I would go back to the bathroom."He reached the semifinals after countryman Matteo Berrettini retired in their quarterfinal due to a hip injury before the end of the second set. Arnaldi spent a total of 19 hours, 42 minutes on court, more than any other player has taken to make the semifinals at any major tournament since the ATP Tour began recording match times in 1991.“It’s tough, because for how the tournament was, for how many hours I spent on court, I was feeling actually very good,” Arnaldi said.“To have to withdraw from the first slam semifinal is not something that you wish to anybody. I tried to get ready and tried to stay as much as I could here and tried to see if I could go on court, but every time I get up, I feel dizzy, and I don’t feel like the best. I’m pretty sure if I eat again, I’m not going to feel, like, good. That was the right decision for me to take."Cobolli said he was saddened by the news.“When he came to me almost one hour ago, I almost cried,” he said. “Matteo is a big inspiration for all of us.” ___AP Tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLB exec calls Rays a 'perfect fit' in trade for Mets' 3.63 ERA aceMLB exec calls Rays a 'perfect fit' in trade for Mets' 3.63 ERA ace originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.So far, the 2026 Tampa Bay Rays are the leaders of the American League, with the rest of the conference behind the Rays in terms of win-loss record. But this Rays team could use a bit more help this season to truly be a World Series contender. One of the best ways of improving the team become such a contender is to add more starting pitching help. One MLB executive, according to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, called the Rays a "perfect fit" in a trade for the New York Mets 3.36 ERA ace, Freddy Peralta. The reason why is clear: the Rays can meet the Mets' lofty demands perfectly.Rays called 'perfect fit' for Freddy Peralta"I think a team like the Rays are a perfect fit with multiple guys in the 50-100 range," one MLB executive said. "Don't see them giving up Theo Gillen, but the rest of Caden Bodine, Nathan Flewelling, Taitn Gray, and Brody Hopkins could make sense."Peralta is a 30-year-old pitcher who will be a free agent after the 2026 season comes to a close. In a trade deadline deal, Peralta is strictly a rental.Such players typically don't fetch the significant returns that multi-year options would be able to bring back. But, because Peralta is so good, the Mets can and will ask for a lot in return. He has a 3.63 ERA this season, but last year with the Milwaukee Brewers, he had a 2.70 ERA in his second All-Star season. Peralta is a good pitcher and someone who will cost a bit to acquire.MORE: Mets projected to still sell at trade deadline by ex-MLB GMThis MLB executive called the Rays a perfect fit for Peralta, thanks to the combination of their need for more pitching help and their prospect options the Mets might have interest in.Hopkins, Flewelling, Bodine, and Gray all could be reasonable trade options for Peralta, according to this MLB executive. While losing some solid prospects would sting, adding Peralta might be the move that makes the Rays legitimate World Series contenders.Rays fans might as well keep an eye out for more Peralta rumors, as if this MLB executive realizes the Rays are such a perfect fit for a Peralta trade, surely the Rays and Mets are aware of how good a fit this could be for both teams.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

Eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed Brunson walking over to the scorer's table at the end of last night's game, and may have originally thought he was just speaking with crew chief Scott Foster. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMScotland hammer Israel in World Cup qualifier but suffer injury blowCaroline Weir scored a hat-trick as Scotland hammered Israel 6-0 in their Women’s World Cup qualifier to boost their chances of finishing top of their group and returning to League A in the Nations League. The Real Madrid midfielder had a hand in the first four goals as she also provided the assist for the opener scored by Erin Cuthbert, who was carried off with a potentially serious knee injury late on in Budapest. It boosted the Scots’ goal difference to 18 – 10 clear of rivals Belgium who end their campaign with two games against bottom club Luxembourg – and with Israel to come again next week Melissa Andreatta’s side will look for another big win to secure top spot in League B Group 4, which earns a seeding for the qualification play-offs.Weir first teed up Cuthbert to nudge the ball past Rachel Steinschneider and fire home from the edge of the area in the 17th minute.Erin Cuthbert scored but later suffered an injury blow (Reuters)Three minutes later Weir scored her first as Israel twice failed to clear a corner and the midfielder moved the ball one way with her left foot and then back the other with her right to skip past two defenders to open up space for a shot through a crowd of players. An intricate passing move saw Weir run through the middle of Israel’s defence to slot her second in the 57th minute and she completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot 10 minutes later.Lauren Davidson and Kirsty Hanson added late goals to boost the goal difference further.PA0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMGig Harbor athletic director out following basketball coach turmoilGig Harbor High School athletic director Blair Suek is resigning from her position, The News Tribune has learned. The Peninsula School District confirmed her departure from the position in an email to The News Tribune.“Blair Suek is resigning at the end of the school year, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” Peninsula School District chief of schools Michael Farmer wrote in a statement. “The GHHS athletic director position will be posted in the coming days.”It’s unclear whether Suek’s departure stems from the recent handling of a situation with former Gig Harbor varsity girls basketball coach Michele Hackett.Hackett was fired after a meeting with Suek in late April, during which Suek told Hackett that the “general consensus was that I wasn’t the best fit for this particular program and community” after postseason discussions with players. In a rare reversal, the Peninsula School District stepped in less than two weeks later and announced Hackett would be returning.“The district would like to clarify that this decision to end Coach Hackett’s tenure was made without consulting district administration, and proper administrative protocols were not followed,” district officials wrote in an email/ParentSquare post to parents in early May.The email announcing Hackett’s reinstatement was signed by Gig Harbor High School principal Bob Marshall and Peninsula School District athletic director Wendy Malich. Suek’s name was absent.Another headspinning development followed: Hackett announced this week she was leaving to coach the girls basketball team at Stadium High School in Tacoma.Suek, who was formerly the athletic director at Steilacoom High School, replaced Bob Werner ahead of the 2022-23 school year. Werner had worked in the role since 2011. Suek graduated from Puyallup High School in 2009 before attending and playing volleyball at Pacific Lutheran University. The Peninsula School District has had several athletics controversies in recent years. In 2024, a Gig Harbor student directed a racially charged reference toward a Lincoln High School basketball player during a game. The year prior, there was an investigation of a Gig Harbor basketball player allegedly using a racial slur toward a Peninsula High School basketball player during a game. The 2023 “Fish Bowl” rivalry football game between Gig Harbor and Peninsula was marked by controversy after a player was sent to the hospital because of a late hit. The game exposed crowd-control and safety concerns, prompting it to be moved to Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe key factor that will decide Barcelona’s pursuit for Premier League defenderThe key factor that will decide Barcelona’s pursuit for Premier League defenderFor the first time in years, young Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona is being questioned, and for good reason. While he has long been seen as a bright prospect and a potential all-time great should he develop correctly, he has shown no signs of growth in recent seasons. His stagnation, needless to say, has been a concern for Barcelona and the club are now active on the market in terms of scouting possible left-back reinforcements. Marc Cucurella, on that front, is one player linked with a move. One key factorAs revealed by MARCA in a recent report, Cucurella is well aware of Barcelona’s interest in signing him in the summer. The operation to sign him, however, is dependent on factors beyond his control.Cucurella is a La Masia graduate. (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)Indeed, whether or not Barcelona land Cucurella will largely depend on the decision of Alejandro Balde who does not want to leave Barcelona as matters stand. The player is indeed not satisfied with how his prominence has dwindled since Janaury nor with the amount of playing time he has seen. The arrival of Joao Cancelo in the winter window was another move he did not approve of.Despite all the hurdles, however, he does not consider a departure at this moment in time.Close monitoringCucurella, as a La Masia graduate himself, stands out as an option for Barcelona should Balde choose to leave. APNEWS.COMTrump’s deportation agenda is about to get a $70B infusion from CongressSenate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., walks from the chamber to his office at the Capitol in Washington, Thursday, June 4, 2026. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)2026-06-05T18:40:32Z WASHINGTON (AP) — With virtually no strings attached, Congress is on the verge of providing a sizable infusion of cash to the Department of Homeland Security, powering President Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda for the remainder of his term in the White House. The nearly $70 billion package, which cleared the Republican-held Senate in a middle of the night vote and now heads to the House, was declared a “rotten bill” by the Democratic leader and an “ATM for ICE” by pro-immigrant advocates. But for those aligned with Trump’s campaign promise for the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history, it all but guarantees an uninterrupted flow of money to carry out the administration’s immigration enforcement operations — and comes on top of some $170 billion Congress already approved for the department last summer, as part of Trump’s big tax breaks bill. “We’re going to continue to arrest people, we’re going to continue to detain people and we’re going to keep deporting people,” Trump border czar Tom Homan told CBS News on Friday. He hinted at summer sweeps of enforcement actions coming next to New York City. More money, fewer guardrails The work of Congress comes at a pivotal time for the Republican president and his party as they face restless voters before the midterm elections. About one in three U.S. adults know someone who has been impacted by Trump’s immigration operations, according to an AP-NORC poll conducted in April. And as America celebrates its 250th anniversary, most say it’s no longer a great place for immigrants. The funding package from Congress is just a slim dozen-page bill that carries none of the usual guardrails or directives typically demanded in legislation. It turns loose $30 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, nearly $20 billion for the Border Patrol, and others, prepaying the department’s operations into 2029. Read More “Their options are limitless in terms of what they can do with this money,” said Vanessa Cardenas, the executive director at America’s Voice, a longtime advocacy organization for immigrants. “That is such a hard thing to accept as a taxpaying citizen that our dollars are going to this massive, mass deportation machine, while Americans are struggling to meet health care costs, and have access to food and they’re paying so much in gas.” Sign up for Morning Wire: Our flagship newsletter breaks down the biggest headlines of the day. The administration has sought to shift the debate over its immigration operations, installing new leadership at Homeland Security in the aftermath of violent scenes of immigration enforcement earlier this year and the shooting deaths of Americans Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.Rather than the dramatic street sweeps, the administration is working behind the scenes on actions that are stripping immigrant groups of their ability to remain in the U.S., by doing away with Temporary Protected Status or making it more difficult to secure green cards. The so-called Dreamers, young immigrants brought illegally to the U.S. as children, have reported delays in renewing their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals status, exposing them to potential deportation. But protests on American streets continue, including over detention conditions at the Delaney Hall facility in New Jersey. At the same time, Homeland Security continues to hire more ICE agents — it’s hosting an employment fair next month in Florida — build more detention facilities and partner with countries around the world to take people who are being deported from the U.S. In a statement, the department said Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin are “laser focused on ensuring the hardworking men and women” of ICE and Customs and Border Patrol are fully funded. It said the package from Congress “will ensure our critical national security operations continue despite any Democrat attempts to hold our great patriotic employees hostage in the future.” Power of the purse becomes a blank checkTypically a funding package from Congress would run hundreds pages or more, with a range of specific instructions about how the money can be spent and on what timelines.Congress, after all, holds the power of the purse, and often uses that constitutional role to put checks on the administration. But after Democrats refused to fund Homeland Security earlier this year following the violence in Minnesota, Republicans retaliated by using the congressional budget resolution process to muscle the package through on their own, outside of the traditional appropriations channels. It’s the same process both parties have used in the past, most recently on Trump’s 2025 tax cuts bill.“All this important oversight doesn’t happen,” said Bobby Kogan, a former staff member of the Senate Budget Committee and now at the Center for American Progress, a think tank.Overnight, Democrats in the Senate worked to exert that authority, offering amendments to ensure Congress had some say in the process. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, for example, sought to protect “Dreamers” from deportation as their DACA renewals are being delayed. But those efforts all failed. Deportations not enough, for someMeanwhile the administration is under enormous pressure to deliver on its promise to boost deportations to some 1 million a year, after the Republican president’s first year numbers fell short.Mike Howell, president of the Oversight Project, is a leader of the Mass Deportation Coalition that is pushing the Trump administration to stick to its promises.“Everyone’s talking about ICE is going to get another massive cash injection, and that’s not how I see it at all,” he said. “They’re getting like life-support money.” “We’re not asking them to keep going,” Howell said. “We’re asking them to start.”Howell said there’s little chance the Trump administration will be able to reach the president’s deportation goals unless it drops its priority to go after what it calls the “worst of the worst.” His group put out a framework earlier this year that proposes more comprehensive sweeps to arrest immigrants, particularly in the workplace. He also wants to see the Trump administration make it more difficult for immigrants who are in the U.S. to use the banking system, get social services and obtain drivers licenses. Republicans in Congress have offered bills tackling some of those issues. The administration has been amping up its own rhetoric and recently posted a new website that characterizes immigrants as “aliens” — with outer-space themes — and suggests ways the White House is working to prevent people from staying in the U.S.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 41 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM100 days till Arizona Cardinals' opener: Remembering the 2000 seasonWe can officially commence the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Friday, June 5 is 100 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers. In years past, we have focused our countdowns on stats or uniform numbers. This year, it will focus on seasons. With 100 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 2000 season for the Cardinals. A look back at the 2000 season for the CardinalsIt was not a good year. Two years after making the playoffs for the first time in Arizona, they started the season 2-5 and head coach Vince Tobin was fired. Dave McGinnis, who was defensive coordinator, was given the interim tag. They went 1-8 after he took over, losing their final seven games, six of them by double digits. 2000 offensive leadersJake Plummer was the starting quarterback. He started 14 games, going 3-11. He had only 13 touchdown passes and 21 interceptions. Michael Pittman led the team in rushing and total yards from scrimmage. He rushed for 719 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 3.9 yards per carry, and he caught 73 passes for 579 yards and two scores, for a total of 1,298 yards from scrimmage. Rookie first-round pick Thomas Jones rushed for 373 yards and two scores on 3.3 yards per attempt. Pittman led the team in receptions, but David Boston caught 71 passes for 1,156 yards and seven touchdowns. Frank Sanders had 54 catches for 749 yards and six scores. 2000 defensive leadersLinebacker Ronald McKinnon and safety Pat Tillman led the team with 157 and 155 total tackles, respectively. Hall of Fame cornerback Aeneas Williams, in his final year with the Cardinals, had five interceptions. Simeon Rice, also in his final season with the Cardinals, led the team with 7.5 sacks. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDana White Scrambles as Sean Strickland’s Snub Turns UFC Freedom 250 into Political Flashpoint AgainUFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland is threatening to protest outside the White House with a bullhorn and his title belt. With just ten days until UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn, this is a major PR headache for Dana White. The event already faces heavy criticism for its political timing, as it takes place on President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. Critics are calling it a political rally rather than a sporting event. In this tense atmosphere, Strickland’s shocking snub has only amplified the controversy.Meanwhile, the UFC boss is trying to cool things, mirroring his approach from right after the initial White House event announcement.Sean Strickland’s White House Ban Sparks ControversyStrickland, who reclaimed the middleweight title with a split-decision upset over Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328last month as an underdog, revealed Wednesday he had been blacklisted from attending the major event. UFC 312 SYDNEY, Sean Strickland of United States speaks to the crowd after his loss to Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa in his middleweight title bout during the UFC 312 event at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Sunday, February 9, 2025. In response, Strickland vowed to stage a “peaceful protest” outside the White House gates, armed with a bullhorn and his title belt.“The only male American champ banned at the White House because I said Trump is owned by [Benjamin Netanyahu],” he wrote on Instagram. When a fan asked why, he kept it short: “I made fun of Israel and Epstein.”Sean Strickland says he’s BANNED from attending the UFC White House event “I made fun of Israel and Epstein. The only male American champ banned at the White House.” pic.twitter.com/gdF2bFD6Bt— Happy Punch (@HappyPunch) June 3, 2026Strickland announced he bought a plane ticket anyway. “I’m gonna bring the belt, I’m gonna get a big bullhorn and we’re gonna go right up to the gates,” he said on X.The ban pulled in Freedom 250’s main event headliner Justin Gaethje, who faces lightweight champion Ilia Topuria in a title unification bout on fight night. After a fan called for American fighters to boycott the event, Gaethje fired back, penning, “You and Sean are relentlessly dumb.”Strickland replied, “Youre a real good goy Time to switch your flag.”This explosive personal back-and-forth completely oversaturated the news cycle following Strickland’s ejection from the White House event. By taking their feud public, the fighters left absolutely no room for Dana White to dodge intense media scrutiny heading into fight week.Dana White Forced Into Familiar Damage Control ModeThe fallout pushed White to defend the event publicly again. When the date was first confirmed, the 56-year-old faced the same “political rally” criticismafter it emerged the card would land on Trump’s birthday. MMA journalist Ariel Helwani even called it a “love letter to Trump.” Now, in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, he delivered a near-identical rebuttal.“This is the 250th birthday of America. That’s the story that we’re going to tell,” White said. “Everybody, no matter what your politics are – this is relevant to you as an American.”However, the optics continuously undermine his message. The event was entirely Trump’s idea. The 4,300 on-site seats were handpicked by the Trump administration and UFC leadership, completely bypassing public ticket sales. The UFC is spending an estimated $60 million on production alone. Now, its own active American middleweight champion is banned from the grounds for his political speech.White can insist this is simply a patriotic celebration. But banning a reigning champion for what he says makes it incredibly difficult to argue the event is about anything else.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM“Have Plenty of Talent”: The Athletic Ranks the Indiana Hoosiers as the Number 1 Team in College Football as the 2026 College Football Season ApproachesThe Indiana Hoosiers have proven to be a football power over the last two seasons. In Curt Cignetti’s first season as head coach, they had an 11-2 record. The two teams they lost to were the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They both met each other in the national title game that season. As for last season, Indiana finished with a 16-0 record and won the national title over the Miami Hurricanes.Indiana University’s Curt Cignetti walks through pit lane Sunday, May 24, 2026, ahead of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. There are a lot of ways that the Hoosiers could approach the upcoming 2026 college football season. For the last two seasons Kurtis Rourke and Fernando Mendoza have been the starting quarterbacks. Mendoza was the number one overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. Josh Hoover will be Indiana’s starting quarterback this season and he played for the TCU Horned Frogs a season ago. Despite the Hoosiers losing some players to the NFL Draft, will they be good again in 2026?The Athletic Ranks the Indiana Hoosiers as the Number 1 Team in College Football as the 2026 Season ApproachesMay 24, 2026; Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; Indiana University football head coach Curt Cignetti walks the red carpet Sunday, May 24, 2026, ahead of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mandatory Credit: Peter Fanning-USA TODAY Network via Imagn ImagesSam Khan Jr. and Austin Mock of the Athletic created its latest Top 25 rankings. They have Indiana as the number one team in the nation as the 2026 college football season approaches. Khan and Mock said about the Hoosiers football program,“The reigning champs still have plenty of talent thanks to a handful of key returnees and the No. 2 transfer portal class. No returning FBS QB has thrown for more yards in the past three seasons than Josh Hoover when he was at TCU. Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh should form a productive receiving duo, and the return of All-America tackle Carter Smith to anchor an experienced front is huge. So is having a veteran defensive front, led by Tyrique Tucker and transfer Tobi Osunsanmi.”Charlie Becker is projected to be the top wide receiver for Indiana this season and could be Hoover’s top target. Becker could very well be a first-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Indiana’s toughest games next season will be against Ohio State and also against the Michigan Wolverines also. For More Great Football ContentFollow me on Twitter at @glennkaplan13 more great content. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCardinals finally get the reinforcement they've been desperately missingCardinals finally get the reinforcement they've been desperately missing originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The St. Louis Cardinals have spent weeks searching for answers. Now, one of their most important players is on the verge of returning. After completing the final day of his rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Lars Nootbaar is expected to rejoin the Cardinals on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds, according to manager Oliver Marmol. The timing couldn't be much better for a club that has repeatedly struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities and has watched its offense leave runners stranded at an alarming rate. And if Nootbaar's final rehab game was any indication, he may be arriving just in time to change the entire conversation around this lineup.Lars Nootbaar sends a loud message before Cardinals returnThe Cardinals wanted to see Nootbaar handle back-to-back games and play full defensive workloads before activating him. He responded by doing much more than that.Nootbaar launched a leadoff home run, finished 2-for-5 and drew a walk in Memphis' game against Louisville, giving St. Louis exactly the type of encouraging performance it hoped to see before ending his rehab assignment. The 28-year-old has been working his way back from double heel surgery, and his return instantly gives the Cardinals a proven big-league bat, a strong on-base presence and one of the team's most energetic personalities. For a club that has spent much of the season searching for consistency near the bottom of the lineup, that's a significant development.Cardinals' biggest problem may finally have an answerSt. Louis entered Wednesday tied for the lowest batting average with runners in scoring position in Major League Baseball at just .222. The issue surfaced again Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers when the Cardinals failed to score after putting runners on first and third with nobody out in a tie game. While Marmol pushed back on the idea that runners-in-scoring-position numbers tell the entire story, he acknowledged that Nootbaar brings something the offense has been lacking. The Cardinals manager pointed directly to Nootbaar's ability to control the strike zone, work counts, take walks and consistently move the baseball forward. That's exactly the skill set St. Louis needs. Even when Nootbaar isn't collecting hits, his disciplined approach forces pitchers to work harder and often creates opportunities for the hitters behind him.MORE: Dave Roberts makes telling Shohei Ohtani decision after dominant Dodgers outingThe impact goes beyond the box scoreThere is another reason Cardinals fans are so excited about Nootbaar's return.Energy.Few players on the roster bring the same level of emotion, intensity and enthusiasm that Nootbaar provides every time he steps onto the field. It's one of the reasons he quickly became a fan favorite in St. Louis. The Cardinals' young roster has already shown far more competitive fire than many expected entering the season. Adding Nootbaar back into that mix only amplifies it.His return isn't just about improving the batting order. It's about injecting confidence into a team that still believes it can make noise in the National League.Could this be Nootbaar's most important stretch as a Cardinal? An interesting wrinkle hangs over Nootbaar's return. ESPN's Jeff Passan recently identified Nootbaar as a potential trade deadline candidate if the Cardinals decide to explore moves later this summer. Before any of those conversations can happen, however, Nootbaar has a chance to remind everyone exactly why he's been such an important part of the organization. The former Gold Glove finalist owns a career 9.4 WAR and has consistently demonstrated the ability to impact games in multiple ways when healthy. The biggest question has never been talent. It's availability. Now healthy and finally back in the lineup, Nootbaar has nearly two months before the trade deadline to show what kind of difference he can make. For a Cardinals team searching for offense, energy and consistency, that could be enough time to change everything.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMGovernor’s races have never been more important for trans rights than this yearIt can be easy to forget about gubernatorial races as we head towards the midterms. They are, ultimately, state-level elections at a time when we’re focused on national problems. The balance of power in the Senate and the House of Representatives is the focal point for many of us as we hunt for a way to stem the bleeding caused by Donald Trump. But governors wield a huge amount of power, especially when it comes to protecting trans rights. There’s a lot a governor can do to make a state safer for trans people (see Tim Walz’s work to make Minnesota a trans refuge). But, just by using their veto power, governors can do a lot to save trans lives between now and the next presidential election. Related Anti-trans laws are killing us & making it even harder to fight back against them If a state legislature takes it upon itself to pass anti-trans laws, whether that means targeting gender-affirming care, legal gender recognition, or access to bathrooms and sports, a governor can stop that in its tracks. If a governor vetoes a bill, the only recourse the legislature has to still enact the law is either to secure a supermajority to override the veto or to reintroduce the bill in the next session, fully aware that it might be vetoed again. But how often does that really happen? How much are governors putting a stop to this anti-trans legislation? More than you think. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today There are currently eleven states where neither the Republicans nor the Democrats hold a complete trifecta across the governor’s mansion, the House, and the Senate. Two of those are borderline, with Democrats holding Minnesota’s governorship and Senate, but with an equal split in the House between the parties. Alaska has a Republican governor, but both the House and Senate are split 50/50. But five of the states have Democratic governors with Republican Houses and Senates: Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. All of those states voted for Trump in 2024. But they also all installed Democratic governors. And every one of those five governors has vetoed anti-trans legislation to protect trans people in their state. Andy Beshear in Kentucky has repeatedly vetoed legislation. Tony Evers in Wisconsin just vetoed five bills that would have restricted trans access to both gender-affirming care and sports. Laura Kelly in Kansas vetoed a bathroom bill while calling it “poorly drafted legislation to boot.” Meanwhile, Michigan’s House is Republican and Pennsylvania’s Senate is Republican, while the rest of those states are Democratic (despite both going to Trump in 2024). Governors Gretchen Whitmer and Josh Shapiro haven’t yet had to veto any anti-trans bills, but they have both said they would if such legislation were to pass both chambers. Conversely, Gov. Joe Lombardo (R) in Nevada is pushing for a ballot initiative to ban trans women from sports as a way to get around his state’s Democratic House and Senate. (Although to be fair, Republican Gov. Phil Scott in Vermont did sign an updated Shield law last year to protect patients and providers around gender-affirming care). Obviously, we have a national problem. Trump is doing so much harm to the LGBTQ+ community, and he’s made his intention to further hurt trans and gender-diverse people through his executive orders, guidances, and administrative actions. The Department of Justice is busily intimidating hospitals and trans families while they also torture prisoners in a wider effort to end gender-affirming care for everyone. Even the International Olympic Committee has barred trans athletes over Trump’s posturing. But as we look at the national picture and the years ahead, it’s crucial that we remember how much power governors can wield, and how they may be able to protect at least some of the United States’ trans population. In November, 39 states are holding elections for governor. Five of those are seats held by Democrats in states that Trump won in 2024. Several of the gubernatorial races are predicted as toss-ups. Right now, primaries are still being counted or haven’t taken place yet. Candidates need reminding of the need to protect trans people, and that’s exponentially more important in states with Republican legislatures. It’s time to help campaign and get progressive, pro-trans Democrats into a place where they can help to bandage the wounds left by Trump. WWW.PROPUBLICA.ORGFounder of Kentucky Drug Rehab Center Indicted on Fraud and Money Laundering ChargesLogos of organizations under the Addiction Recovery Care umbrella are on display at ARC’s career services office in Louisa, Kentucky. Ryan C. Hermens/Lexington Herald-Leader Timmy G. Robinson Jr., founder and owner of what was once Kentucky’s largest drug addiction treatment company, was criminally indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on charges of wire fraud and money laundering. The indictment, filed in the Eastern District of Kentucky, charges Robinson with fraudulently selling millions of dollars of the same IRS tax credit to two companies. Robinson “devised a scheme” to “unlawfully enrich himself” by selling those tax credits to two parties, the indictment says. Robinson is also charged with two counts of money laundering for spending the proceeds of the fraudulent sale. Robinson has resigned as CEO of ARC, company spokesperson Vanessa Keeton said Thursday. Robinson, 50, founded the company in 2012 after becoming sober and telling people he felt called by God to help people in the state with addiction. ARC, which at one point operated more than 40 drug treatment centers around the state, has been under FBI investigation for Medicaid fraud since July 2024. That investigation is ongoing, the FBI confirmed on Friday. The Lexington Herald-Leader, in partnership with ProPublica, reported in April firsthand accounts from former ARC employees and clients who said they were told by ARC to falsely bill Medicaid, or witnessed others billing for services that were not actually provided. The company said at the time that it “has never knowingly or fraudulently billed Medicaid for services, and there is no evidence that the organization encouraged employees to falsify group notes for billing purposes.” Robinson’s attorney, Kent Wicker, said he and his client were surprised to learn an indictment had been placed over a “dispute with some investors that is now pending in a civil courtroom.” That dispute escalated earlier this year, when ARC was sued by two companies to which Robinson had sold IRS credits, including the Bahamas-based Angelica Capital Trust. But both companies allege that when ARC received the IRS credits, it illegally kept more than $8 million the companies were owed. They allege ARC was refusing to repay the money in part so it could pay a preliminary $28 million settlement with the Department of Justice over alleged Medicaid fraud. Robinson has said he would make payments to creditors upon the sale of the company, which he described in January as imminent. “To be clear, Mr. Robinson did not defraud anyone, did not gain anything from the transaction at issue, and he has done nothing but deliver high quality care for over a decade to thousands of Kentuckians,” Wicker said in an emailed statement to the Herald-Leader and ProPublica. “We look forward to defending this case in court.” Starting in 2023, ARC applied for two COVID-19-related tax credits, totalling nearly $7 million. In July 2025, Robinson sold the rights to the first tax credit to a loan company, the indictment says. Under the agreement, the purchaser would pay ARC $2.7 million in exchange for a future repayment of the tax credit once the IRS funds arrived. Robinson signed that agreement, and later that month the buyer wired ARC the agreed amount. Read More They Needed Treatment for Drug Addiction. The Company They Turned to May Have Used Them to Commit Fraud. Soon after, the indictment says, Robinson “devised a scheme” to sell that same credit amount to a second company and in doing so “falsely represented” that the $2.7 million in initial tax credit was available to purchase. “Robinson concealed the prior transactions” to the new buyer, according to the indictment. In November, Robinson signed an agreement with the second buyer, who sent a wire transfer that included $2.7 million for the twice-sold tax credit. In December, when the IRS paid ARC the COVID-19 tax refunds, “at Robinson’s direction, ARC spent the ERC [Employee Retention Credit] funds on other operational costs and debt obligations,” the indictment reads. Keeton declined to comment further on the case, citing pending litigation. However, she said ARC continues to operate normally. “All facilities, programs, and services remain open and fully operational,” Keeton said in an emailed statement. “Our leadership team, employees, and clinical staff remain committed to delivering high-quality care and support to the individuals and families we serve.” Robinson faces 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gain or loss, for the wire fraud count. Each money laundering count carries up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He was 93.Jarrett was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011 after 50 career wins on the sport's top circuit, including championships in 1961 and 1965. He was part of the second five-member NASCAR Hall of Fame class.Jarrett, known as “Gentleman Ned” for his demeanor, may have been better known by younger NASCAR fans for his broadcasting career. One of his signature moments in the booth came in the 1993 Daytona 500 when he didn't try to restrain from rooting as his son, Dale Jarrett, held off Dale Earnhardt for the win.Dale Jarrett won the Cup Series in 1999. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCobolli through to final as Arnaldi withdraws with virusMatteo Arnaldi looked peaky when he talked to the media about pulling out of the French Open [Getty Images]Italy's Matteo Arnaldi says withdrawing from his first Grand Slam semi-final through illness is an experience he would "not wish on anybody".Arnaldi, 25, was due to play his close friend Flavio Cobolli in the French Open last four on Friday, but pulled out shortly before the match because of a virus. The announcement was made at about 17:35 BST, 25 minutes before the Italian pair were due to walk out on court in Paris."I tried to see if I could get on court but every time I get up I feel dizzy. It was the right decision to take," said 104th-ranked Arnaldi, who had never previously gone past the fourth round of a major."I just know I can't move, I can't eat and I can't drink - there was no way I was able to play."Cobolli, 24, will play German second seed and title favourite Alexander Zverev - who beat Jakub Mensik - in his first major final on Sunday."It is so, so tough. When he came to see me, I almost cried," said 10th seed Cobolli.Cobolli (left) and Arnaldi sat well apart in their news conference [Getty Images]French Open Daily: Zverev sets up Cobolli finalThe two players appeared together at a news conference within minutes of Arnaldi's withdrawal being announced. In order to avoid Cobolli getting ill, the pair cautiously sat at opposite ends of the interview table.Arnaldi described how he became ill on Thursday night, waking up with stomach ache at about 1am.He said he began vomiting and was unable to sleep before calling a doctor to his room in the morning."It's difficult to be here - this is not want I wanted to do," Arnaldi said."I hoped it was something from dinner but throughout the day I couldn't eat or drink and kept going to the bathroom."Withdrawing from a first Grand Slam semi-final is not what you wish to anybody."Arnaldi had spent 19 hours and 42 minutes on court en route to the semi-finals in Paris - the longest anyone has played on their way to the last four of a major since 1991.Arnaldi apologised to the 15,000 fans, with the majority having already arrived at Roland Garros for the match.Ticket-holders will receive a full refund, French Open organisers said."I feel sorry for everyone who came to watch," added Arnaldi. In place of the cancelled match, Cobolli held a practice session on Court Philippe Chatrier in front of thousands of fans who remained.Highly unusual to pull out of a semi-final - analysisA player pulling out of a Grand Slam semi-final is highly unusual - even more so when it happens about an hour before the match is due to begin.Arnaldi's withdrawal is only the third time a Grand Slam men's singles semi-final has ended in a walkover since the Open era began in 1968.The most recent example came when Rafael Nadal decided he was not able to take on Nick Kyrgios in their Wimbledon semi-final four years ago.Nadal had battled through the pain of an abdominal injury to beat Taylor Fritz in the quarter-finals, then announced the following day - 24 hours before the semi-final - he was unable to play Kyrgios. The other occasion came when Richard Krajicek was not fit enough to play Jim Courier at the Australian Open in 1992.Courier later remembered he was told about Krajicek's decision about an hour before the match - very similar to when Arnaldi told Cobolli. When the PA system in the French Open media centre clicked into life on Friday evening, it was immediately obvious a big story was about to break.A hush instantly descended among the hundreds of journalists before it was announced, firstly in French and then English, that Arnaldi was withdrawing.Within 10 minutes, Arnaldi and Cobolli - close friends who have known each other since they were about 10 years old - appeared together in the main interview room.Arnaldi looked visibly peaky - with a pale and weary complexion - while Cobolli was equally as subdued. This was not the way either man wanted their semi-final day to pan out.Live scores, results and order of playGet tennis news sent straight to your phone0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

Organisers said the rider involved, who has not been named, was "reported as conscious and talking" and had been taken to the island's Noble's Hospital via Airmed for "further assessment and treatment".The crash happened at 11th Milestone, near Cronk Y Voddy, shortly before 18:55 BST on the second lap of the Senior TT race. The clerk of the course said there was not enough time to restart the race before roads were due to reopen at 21:30.Friday's earlier races were delayed due to morning road closures being pushed back and a non-racing matter in the afternoon.Racing was initially pushed back by an hour following a crash on the A18 prior to scheduled road closures. The crash occurred before 08:00, on the Mountain section of the 37.7-mile (60km) course. The Isle of Man Constabulary said the crash at Brandywell was "not too serious", but work was needed to clear the area before racing began. As a result the road did not reopen before a formal closure for the TT came into force at 10:00, with the lower section of the course closing at 11:00.A revised three-race programme has been scheduled for the day including the Senior TT, which has been brought forward from Saturday owing to the weather forecast.A "non-racing operational matter" following the first race of the day subsequently pushed the remainder of the schedule back further than the initial delay of one hour, organisers said.Road closures around the Mountain Course were pushed back in the morning [ISLE OF MAN TT]Michael Dunlop won both of the races that were completed earlier - Supersport race two and Sportbike race one - taking his tally of TT wins to 36.Racing is also set to continue on Saturday, but organisers have previously warned it was "likely" a contingency session on Sunday would be needed. This year's race schedule has been severely disrupted by rain, with the opening day of racing on 30 May postponed.Several other planned sessions have also been called off or shortened owing to the inclement conditions.Sidecar racing was removed from the schedule last week on safety grounds, following an incident during qualifying.Read more stories from the Isle of Man on the BBC, watch BBC North West Tonight on BBC iPlayer and follow BBC Isle of Man on Facebook and X. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPenn State extends offers to two 2028 in-state recruiting targetsPenn State has a very important couple of weeks left in the 2027 recruiting cycle. With several high-profile prospects visiting this weekend, the Nittany Lions will look to add to their already fantastic class. However, they may not be adding many more prospects in the state. With only four-star wideout Khalil Taylor truly interested in staying in state, Matt Campbell will have failed to recruit many players in his first Penn State class. Should Taylor commit, he would only be the fifth in-state prospect in the class. Now, that means that the Nittany Lions will turn their sights to the 2028 class, where even more homegrown talent lies. Just this week, Matt Campbell extended offers to two four-star prospects who could give him a stronghold on Pennsylvania for the next cycle. Four-star offensive lineman Nick Anderson and four-star corner Kia Jones Jr. are two players that Campbell seems to be aggressive on early. Both are ranked in the top 10 in the state, per Rivals, and both could instill a Nittany Lions-based culture as well.Wow! Extremely blessed to receive an offer from Penn state! @CoachMC_PSU@CoachTerryPSU@theking1@CoachStorino@Coachstorinod@BrandonHuffman@RyanSnyderOn3@GregSmithRivals@adamgorney@GregBiggins@Andy_Villamarzo@SWiltfong_@TomLoy247@thechadsimmonspic.twitter.com/WAHnD6vZtd— 4⭐️Kia jones jr (@Kiajonesjr4_) June 3, 2026Penn State football offered 2028 Kiski Area (PA) offensive lineman Nick Anderson following its prospect camp on Wednesday. He is the son of Nittany Lion letterman Bill Anderson.Anderson is a four-star and top-10 recruit out of Pennsylvania in the 2028 cycle, per the 247Sports… pic.twitter.com/OSrbkfi4mX— Basic Blues Nation (@basicblues) June 4, 2026Anderson could be an important recruit as he is a legacy player. His father played for the Nittany Lions, which could offer a new sense of connection. While the class of 2027 was not a huge success in the state of Pennsylvania, Campbell is making an effort to be redeemed with his focus on building that homegrown culture. Hopefully, it ends up paying off on the recruiting trail. This article originally appeared on Nittany Lions Wire: Penn State extends offers to two 2028 in-state recruits0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMichael Harris and Mauricio Dubón swap spots in lineup as Braves face PiratesATLANTA, GA - JUNE 04: Michael Harris II #23 of the Atlanta Braves makes a catch during the fourth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Truist Park on June 4, 2026 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin D. Liles/Atlanta Braves/Getty Images) | Getty Images Two of the top four offenses in runs scored will face off tonight when the Pittsburgh Pirates come to town to play the Atlanta Braves. The Braves are third in MLB in runs and the Pirates are only four runs behind them. The Braves will be facing Mitch Keller who has yet again put together a season of almost the exact same output of an ERA in the low fours. This year it is currently at 4.35. The good news for the Braves is that many of their core lineup bats have a history of doing well against Keller. Ronald Acuña has nineteen at-bats against Keller in which he already has three HRs, a .421 average, and 1.371 OPS. Matt Olson has the same exact OPS against Keller in twelve at-bats to include one HR and a .500 average.Austin Riley has ten at-bats against Keller and has a .400 average and 1.055 OPS, and Mauricio Dubón has a .400 average and .955 OPS in ten at-bats. Michael Harris has struggled to an OPS of .500, but has a .250 average against Keller in twelve at-bats, so before the lineup dropped it was interesting to wonder if Walt Weiss was going to factor this in when he penciled in the names. The other question mark, which has been daily at this point, is who is going to get the start at shortstop. Ha-Seong Kim has faced Keller in eleven at-bats and is hitless and has not exactly been living up to expectations this season so it made sense to sit him tonight, but Weiss could have decided to give him more reps to try and get him in a groove. Finally, Austin Wynns had not made his first start yet, so some may have been patiently awaiting to see if tonight was going to be the night, especially considering Sandy León is clearly on the roster for his glove and veteran presence since it seems like he has not hit in a decade.Friday night lights!#BravesCountrypic.twitter.com/gkLeFjdtId— Atlanta Braves (@Braves) June 5, 2026It turns out that Weiss went with Dubón at SS so that Mike Yastrzemski could be in LF and Dominic Smith could be the DH. It also looks like we will have to wait for Austin Wynns to get his first start in a Braves uniform. Outside of León, this looks to be the best offensive lineup to face Keller. Martín Pérez will be on the bump for the Braves in the midst of his best season since 2022. He has been aided by BABIP and strand rates, but he still has his best expected ERA (xERA) since 2022 as well. Even though Martín Pérez has been in MLB since 2012, no player on the Pirates has more than nine at-bats against him. Brandon Lowe has an OPS of .788 in those nine at-bats. One player to keep an eye on is long time Brave, Marcell Ozuna. Ozuna is second on the team with seven at-bats against Pérez, and has done a ton of damage. He owns a .571 average and 1.700 OPS.First pitch is at 7:15 EDT.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMVincent Kompany ‘would love to sign’ £80m Arsenal, Man Utd targetVincent Kompany ‘would love to sign’ £80m Arsenal, Man Utd targetBayern Munich are really interested in signing Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers in the summer transfer window. The German champions are looking to bolster their attacking areas this summer, and after missing out on Anthony Gordon, they are checking on several options.Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea have been linked with a move for Rogers, but Bayern too hold strong interest.Morgan Rogers: Slice of pie for Vincent Kompany?Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Bayern are interested in Rogers, and Vincent Kompany would love to manage him at the German club. However, the Bavarian club are aware that Rogers has a high price tag, and too many clubs are interested in signing the Englishman.Rogers has contributed 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for Aston Villa in 2025-26, and helped them win the Europa League, and finish fourth in the league.Falk told CFBayern: “It is TRUE: Vincent Kompany is interested in Morgan Rogers, likes the Aston Villa star and would like to have him in Munich. However, the price tag is very high, and there are simply too many Premier League clubs following the Englishman. “I don’t think they can afford the player. Bayern fans will remember the story with Xavi Simons when Kompany tried to get the Dutchman. The manager went to Tegernsee, where Uli Hoeneß lives, and the Bayern chief told him that the price is too high, but he can have a slice of pie. I think in this case, it could be another slice of pie for Vincent Kompany!”Arsenal, Man Utd eyeing move for Morgan Rogers? The Times reported last month that Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing Rogers, who would cost in the region of £80m.Arsenal could look to bolster their attacking areas, and could make room for Rogers by offloading the likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriele Martinelli.Likewise, Man Utd also need to add depth and quality in their attacking areas, although signing a new midfielder and a left-back is their top priority.Villa are adamant that they will not sell Rogers, especially after securing Champions League football, but they could be forced to do business if the offer is too high. While Rogers would be a terrific addition for Bayern, the Bavarian giants are probably not looking at established names, rather players like Rio Ngumoha would be perfect for them.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Commanders RT Josh Conerly set himself up to realize potential in second NFL seasonJosh Conerly Jr.’s NFL draft profile listed him at 311 pounds. The Commanders had him at 315 shortly after selecting him at No. 29 overall in 2025, and the starting right tackle finished his rookie year at 318. That doesn’t seem like much of a shift, but the Oregon product wasn’t happy with the weight or his body composition at the time. He decided to do something about it, to be in the best shape possible heading into 2026. “I did cut a heavy amount at the end of last season, because I ended up at 318 or something,” Conerly said. “I was pretty fat. I cut down a lot of body fat and added some muscle.” His strategy was simple: “Eat a little cleaner. Eat a lot less.” Conerly went back to Oregon to work with strength coaches and a personal chef. He spent some time in Alabama training with Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil, never a bad idea from a conditioning and technical perspective. Then he came to the Commanders complex for the offseason program looking lean and mean and ready to get better. “I feel like those three steps I took over the offseason were great for me,” Conerly said after a Tuesday OTA session open to the media. “Hopefully I’m able to show that (it helped).” Conerly believes he’s improved and better prepared for his second NFL season. It also sounds like he took full advantage of his first professional offseason. The previous one was compacted by NFL draft prep, the Senior Bowl, combine prep and the draft. Selections report shortly after being taken, with a rookie minicamp that rolls right into an offseason program already in progress. The post-rookie offseason allows a player to truly reset, hone their craft and take a big leap. That’s Conerly’s goal heading into 2026. While Conerly beleives his added play strength has helped him handle the bull lrush, he’s also making some adjustments. “Just continuously getting comfortable in my stance,” Conerly said. “(I’m) not necessarily rebuilding it, but finding ways to make it as comfortable as possible. Once I stepped out there (for OTAs) I felt a lot more confident. I’m able to just be free.” Conerly’s trying to improve upon a 2025 campaign that featured a rough start – he switched from left tackle to the right side after getting drafted – and some improvement as the season progressed. Per NFL Next Gen Stats, he allowed a roughly 9.9% pressure rate, which was high among right tackles, and that must come down. He clearly has potential as a starting NFL tackle. Now he needs to realize it. Offensive coordinator David Blough is trying to help him and the offensive line do so, using the group’s athleticism to Washington’s advantage. Conerly is also a big believer in offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton, who will lead the room after being an assistant position coach the past two seasons. “He sat next to me in the meeting rooms all through my rookie year, so we already had a pretty close relationship,” Conerly sald. “In our meetings, just like when he ran a lot of our third-down meetings, I feel like we’re a lot more interactive. I feel like me and the guys are in a really great space right now. We’re going to continue to just elevate.”0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 40 Visualizações 0 Anterior
