Summit Country Day highlights day 2 of OHSAA track state meet
COLUMBUS, OH — One day after Cincinnati Country Day's Luke Schnieber won a pole vault state title, a Summit County Day relay team made it two track and field titles in as many days for Cincinnati. In the first year with five divisions at the Ohio High School Athletic Association track and field state championships, Fenwick, CHCA and Summit Country Day led the way among the area's Division IV teams, while a pair of sprinters claimed spots on the podium. Here are the highlights from Friday's action at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Saturday will see field events in Divisions I, II and III, running semifinals and a handful of finals in DI and DII, and the DIII running finals.Summit Country Day claims girls sprint relay titleMaddy Amend, Brielle Bryant, Alaina Williams and Ama Karikari brought home Cincinnati's lone state championship on Friday, winning the Division IV 4x100 meter relay in a new overall DIV state record of 48.59 seconds.Running the anchor leg, Karikari took the baton in second place and caught Girard to win the Silver Knights' first track state title since Braeden Austin, Oscar Loehrer, Oren Jenkins and Matthew Shuler won the 2022 DIII 4x200 meter state title."We knew the whole season that we were really close to winning and yesterday during prelims, we were 0.05 (seconds) away, so worked really hard on our handoffs and knew that if I got the stick in first or second, we'd definitely win," Karikari said. The junior also helped SCD to a fifth-place finish in 4x200 meter relay and took sixth place in the 200-meter dash.Summit Country Day, which doesn't have a track, was the top local team in the girls standings, tying for 12th place with 17 points."We have really hard-working coaches and staff that help us get ready before meets and train before the season starts. It just shows how hard work pays off," Karikari said.Wyatt Gockerman places in three events for CHCAWith his twin brother, Nate, out for the second half of the track season with various stress fractures, Wyatt Gockerman was thrust into the primary leadership role for the Eagles. The lineup change allowed him to explore his possibilities in the 3,200-meter run, which led to a new personal best of 9:13 and a third-place finish on the first day of the state championships."It honestly helped propel me and give me more motivation because I was able to really have a breakthrough race in the two-mile at regionals," Gockerman said.Earlier on Thursday, Gockerman and senior Jagger Dollenmeyer helped the Eagles to a seventh-place finish in the 4x800 meter relay. Both competed in the 1,600-meter run on Friday. Gockerman closed his junior season with a sixth-place finish in 4:18.93, one second slower than his personal best. Dollenmeyer, who will run at Wright State, closed his career with a 13th-place finish in 4:22.41."I feel pretty exhausted, especially with how late in the season it is," Dollenmeyer said. The Eagles were the highest-placing DIV boys team, scoring 17.33 points for 13th place.Fenwick's Sam Long bags two fourth-place finishesAs one of the elder stateswomen for the Fenwick track team, Samantha Long has shown her teammates what is possible this year. She had a top five 300-meter hurdle time in DIV this year and was a part of numerous school-record relay teams. The Falcons took 10 athletes to the DIV state meet, including seven freshman, but Long had the most successful day, taking fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles and running the anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x400 meter relay team."I passed people early on because I wanted to start out fast and then just tried to maintain it for the rest of the race," Long said of the relay. In the hurdles, she found her stride rounding the curve into the home stretch, holding off Columbus School for Girls' Hannah Watson and Mineral Ridge's Malayna Wilson.Long is optimistic about the team's future, knowing they can capitalize on the 10 points they scored this year."A lot of the freshmen we have have never run track before. I feel like they definitely look up to the upperclassmen. I was team captain this year and, hopefully, I get to do it again next year because it's really fun, trying to help the coaches," Long said.Serena Cyprien, Jimere Furr show out in Division V short sprintsOpening up the first-ever DV state meet, Cyprien took third place in the 100-meter dash in 12.73 seconds. Despite running into a tough headwind, the Cincinnati Christian senior's first state championship race brought her the first of two medals."It really is all about the start, getting out of your blocks and running through the rest," Cyprien said. She came back in the 200-meter dash, where she was the top seed from the prelims, and took second place in 25.68 seconds.Cyprien will run at Wittenberg University and credits her coaches and teammates for her progression this season. She lowered her 100-meter dash time from 13.35 seconds at her second meet to 12.23 seconds at regionals, and dropped her 200-meter time from 26.34 seconds on April 30 to 25.38 seconds in the regional prelims. She won district titles at both distances and snuck into state by taking fourth place at regionals but made the most of her experience."I've never been at a meet with this many people, ever. It's really nice. The support is amazing, all the girls are super sweet and it was a really good opportunity," Cyprien said.Right after Cyprien finished her 100-meter dash, Furr lined up in lane seven and, 100 meters later, was the runner-up in 11.37 seconds. It was one of his slower times of the season, coming one week after his personal best of 10.75 seconds, but again, he had a tough headwind."Everything was feeling good. I made sure I locked in, made sure I stayed focused. My coach told me that the wind would be crazy so he said to make sure my drive phase is longer than usual so, that way, I can cut through the wind," Furr said. The result was extra sweet because Furr was part of the Lions' 4x200 relay that got disqualified for a false start in 2025. One year after that miscue, he became the first Cincinnati College Prep Academy athlete to stand on the podium at the state meet."To come out here and get second means a lot," Furr said.Which Cincinnati athletes made the podium on the second day of the 2026 OHSAA track and field state championships?Events are listed by division, starting with DIII.DIII boys 3,20-meter run: 5. Red Sox 5, Yankees 3: New York nixed
Jun 5, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras (40) reacts after an RBI single during the third inning against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images | Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Am I the Willson Contreras whisperer? Many are saying it’s true. Due to a bug/feature in the schedule I haven’t have a game recap since mid-May, when the headline was “Where there’s a Willson, there’s a way, son.” Deja vu? Contreras led the way again tonight, in swatting Yankees pitchers:And coolers of delicious, cold crisp liquids on a balmy Big Apple nite:Not to be outdone, Andruw Monasterio hit his first donger of the year which helped the Sox pull one out behind Sonny Gray, who worked into the 7th and gave up two solo homers and a double but got the W once Aroldis Chapman closed the door on the two-on, one-out situation into which he was put by Aroldis Chapman. I will admit it was tough to follow the game while watching Thor: Ragnarok but it was made easier by the fact I’ve seen it a million times but I promised my son (almost 9) that we’d watch tonight and I forgot I had traded for the game because of Patriots Day until I was reminded like three hours before. Rules are rules. But a note about the Yankees from down in enemy territory. It’s sorta obvious the Knicks have subsumed them right now, especially with Aaron Judge’s injury, but they’re the one team that always had the power to do so. As much as Yankees fans are a majority bloc here, there are more Mets fans here than there are of hometown fans in most league cities. But the Knicks are the only game in town (the Nets are a fake idea that helps Barclays Center charge mortgages for 19.2-oz cans of Brooklyn Lager). Is it worth it? I’m not a Celtics crazy by any means, so the answer is a plain yes. This is fun. The Yankees cannot be fun by definition. You might say we won this one before the game even began. Thanks to Willson, we did it afterward too.

Gary Russell Jr vs Pitbull Cruz likely for late summer
Gary Antuanne Russell and Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz are likely to fight in August or September, according to ESPN Knockout’s Salvador Rodriguez.Rodriguez says that August 22 and September 5 are possible dates. The fight is targeted for Las Vegas.Russell (19-1, 17 KO) would be defending the WBA super lightweight title against Cruz (28-3-2, 18 KO), who is the WBC’s interim champ at the weight, and is a former WBA titleholder at 140, and title challenger at 135.The 29-year-old Russell fought on February 21, holding off a solid challenge from Andy Hiraoka to retain the title, which he won from Jose Valenzuela in 2025. If this fight does happen in 2026, it would be the first time since 2022 that Russell has fought twice in a calendar year.Cruz, 28, is coming off of a draw with Lamont Roach Jr last December. Many observers felt Roach probably deserved the win that night, but two judges scored it 113-113, and the third scored for Cruz, 115-111. Cruz did drop Roach in the third round.Russell vs Cruz could be a terrific fight, as Cruz is a fearless, come-forward fighter, and at his best, Russell is a strong technician with some good pop and timing. It could bring the best out of both men in terms of entertainment. If we get this fight, who do you like to win?

Delta girls tennis magical season ends in IHSAA state semifinals
INDIANAPOLIS — For the third time in Delta girls tennis history, the Eagles reached the state final four. The No. 15 team in the state pulled off another upset of a top-10 team by taking down No. 8 Munster in the IHSAA state quarterfinals at North Central High School on Friday, June 5. The Eagles previously defeated No. 10 Westfield in a regional championship and No. 18 Homestead in a semi-state championship to reach the state finals.Unfortunately for the Eagles, the first state championship appearance in Delta tennis history was not meant to be, as No. 3 Carmel won a 4-1 result in the state semifinals. Nevertheless, the Eagles' 2026 girls are only the fifth out of coach Tim Cleland's 67 Delta tennis teams to reach the state final four, joining the 2000 girls, 2004 boys, 2014 boys and 2022 girls."Final four in the state in a one-class tournament is amazing," Cleland said. "We've beaten two top-10 teams in the last week, so we're not doing it with an easy route, that's for sure. ... There's all these things that go into it, but five times in the final four, whether you've been at it 67 seasons or 167 seasons, that's pretty good."Stella Sieber the hero of quarterfinals victory over MunsterThe action began with an early-morning showdown with Munster. The match was one of the quickest quarterfinal matchups of the day, as the Mustangs made quick work of No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while the Eagles did the same at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.Delta's doubles teams have been exceptional this season, and that trend continued against the Mustangs. Senior Kate Manor and junior Alexa Bratton won, 6-2, 6-0, over Munster sophomore Krisha Parikh and freshman Grace Nierengarten at No. 1 doubles, while seniors Elizabeth Bamidele and Rowan Hinds stayed undefeated on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Munster sophomore Sophia Zilz and senior Lila Labahn at No. 2 doubles. Those victories gave the Eagles a combined 50-2 record this season for their doubles teams, including a perfect 26-0 record for Bamidele and Hinds. "Our doubles have done it all year ... and that's against eight state-ranked teams," Cleland noted. While the Eagles' strength is their doubles, the Mustangs flourished at singles. Munster sophomore twins Priyanka and Pallavi Tallamraju only surrendered one game combined at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Delta freshman Sophie Crabtree lost, 6-0, 6-0, to Priyanka at No. 1 singles. Pallavi's 6-1, 6-0 win over Delta senior Olivia Marshall at No. 2 singles tied the match at 2-2 at the time. That left senior Stella Sieber to carry the weight of Delta's season on her shoulders at No. 3 singles. She started strong with a 6-1 win in the first set, but Munster sophomore Berlyn Compton jumped out to a lead in the second. Sieber rallied to force a 6-6 tiebreak, which she cruised through at 7-1 to clinch a 6-1, 7-6 (1) victory and punch her team's ticket to the final four."I definitely felt some pressure, but I just tried to not let it get to me," Sieber said. "Even though there was a big crowd watching, I just wanted to play my best and play calmly, which I feel like helped me win. She's a very aggressive player, so my biggest strategy was just keeping the ball deep so she could not have the shots that she wanted."Greyhounds too much for Eagles in state semifinalsDelta wrapped up its quarterfinal match around noon, but a top-five matchup between No. 3 Carmel and No. 5 Center Grove on the other half of the bracket took nearly four hours to finish as both No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches went into third sets.Although Carmel likely entered the semifinal match with much more fatigue than Delta, the Greyhounds eliminated the Eagles with a 4-1 win. Sieber gave Delta its lone point, cruising past Carmel sophomore Annie Mann with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. The Greyhounds got their first two points from the doubles matches. Seniors Gabby Hall and Maddie Littell clinched the first point of the match with a quick 6-0, 6-3 win over Manor and Bratton at No. 1 doubles, handing the Eagles' duo their first loss since May 15. Bamidele and Hinds put up a much closer fight at No. 2 doubles, rallying back from early deficits in both sets, but they ultimately lost their first match of the season, 7-5, 6-4, to Carmel junior Brylie Price and sophomore Shravya Pillutla."Both of their doubles teams, and our No. 2 doubles, were undefeated for the season," Cleland said. "Something has to give in that situation."Like Munster, the Greyhounds also featured twin sisters at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Carmel officially clinched the match at No. 2 singles when senior Alexia Widjaja defeated Marshall, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, Crabtree dueled through an hour-and-40-minute first set with senior Olivia Widjaja, who eventually won, 7-6 (6), after a long tiebreak. Crabtree lost the second set, 6-1, but the match had been decided by the time that set began."I'm very proud of (Crabtree) because that's a lot of pressure on a young player in that setting," Cleland said. "As the team match was decided, I think she lost a little bit of fight, which is normal. She knew the season was over, she's already lost in the individual stuff, so to be able to grind to the absolute end there, she had to have every ounce of strength in her body, and at some point, she just got tired."But I guarantee if the match had still been 2-2, she'd have been fighting for another three hours."'We'll miss Delta tennis'Five of Delta's seven varsity starters saw their Eagles careers come to an end Friday, with Bamidele, Hinds, Manor, Marshall and Sieber all seniors set to graduate. They excelled in the classroom — Marshall and Sieber earned academic all-state, and Bamidele is a Lilly Scholar. They also excelled in other sports — Marshall and Bamidele in basketball, Manor in volleyball, and Bratton, Sieber and Manor in cheer."The thing that's underestimated is the character of the athletes," Cleland said. "Our kids are high-character. Good parents, smart, coachable, all the things that you've got to have to really put runs together. I'm really proud of them — they gave us themselves, gave our whole program everything they had."Manor and Hinds have played varsity No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, since their freshman year and will graduate as the top two winningest players in the history of Delta girls tennis. Manor sits atop the leaderboard with 96 career wins, and Hinds holds second with 90."We've been best friends playing together since kindergarten or first grade," Hinds said. "It was just a crazy, really surreal experience. I feel like none of us even realized until our senior year, and then we're like, 'Oh, we could actually get this.' It was just a great feeling."Even as they move on to the rest of their lives, the Eagles' seniors know they are leaving Delta girls tennis in good hands."Everyone that's ready to play is ready to play," Manor said. "I'm really confident in what they can achieve, and all the girls that practice with us are just as ready."I'm going to miss all these girls. We'll miss Delta tennis."Contact Cade Hampton via email at cbhampton@usatodayco.com or on X, formerly known as Twitter, @CadeHamp10.This article originally appeared on Muncie Star Press: Delta reaches final four of IHSAA girls tennis state finals

Korda fights back at US Women's Open
Three-time mayor winner Nelly Korda, seeking her first US Open title, had been seven strokes off the lead overnight, but wasted no time closing the gap (Ryan Sirius Sun)World number one Nelly Korda roared back into contention at the US Women's Open, shooting a four-under par 67 in Friday's best round to sit just two strokes off the lead. She trailed a pair of co-leaders on four-under after two rounds at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles -- American Alison Lee, and world number four Yin Ruoning of China."Overall, just really happy with the way my game is trending, especially from yesterday," said Korda."It was weird because I was striking it so well Monday through Wednesday, and all of a sudden... I had no idea what was going on yesterday with my driver."So tried to figure it out on the range after the round and got a little bit of something going."Yeah, I still hit a few out right today, but it was much, much better."Three-time major winner Korda, seeking her first US Open title, had been seven strokes off the lead overnight, but wasted no time closing the gap.She birdied the par-five first hole, a pinpoint approach gave her a tap-in on seven, and she sank an 11-foot putt on nine.A fourth birdie out of the rough on the par-five 11th was followed by her only bogey of the day on 12, where her short putt dribbled right after a sliced drive and overlong approach. But Korda, chasing her second straight major title after victory in the Chevron Championship in April, upped the pressure on the leaders again with a birdie on 17 to end tied-ninth on two-under.Korda credited her sister for improving her swing with advice given on the driving range after Thursday's frustrating round to just try to "strengthen my grip a little bit.""It felt super funky today, but I just trusted and went with it," she said.Yin enjoyed a bogey-free round of 69, while Los Angeles native and fellow co-leader Lee racked up four birdies on her way to an impressive 68 as she pursues her first major.A shot back on a bunched leaderboard were South Korea's Chun In-gee, Yoo Hyun-jo and Kim Sei-young, Japan's Hinako Shibuno, Mexico's Gaby Lopez and overnight leader Jennifer Kupcho -- all on three-under par.Having started on the back nine, Kupcho bogeyed her final two holes to slip down the leaderboard. She scuffed her approach on the eighth hole, and then had to chip out of a steep-lipped fairway bunker on the ninth. It meant she followed her opening round 66 with a two-over-par 73, which included a total four bogeys and two birdies. The American -- chasing her second major title, after her 2022 Chevron Championship win -- said she remained optimistic, noting that "almost after every bogey I've come back and made a birdie.""So just telling myself that really any hole is birdieable. I just need to go out and hit the shots and do the best that I can," she said. The tournament is taking place on the Los Angeles course that will be the venue for Olympic golf at the 2028 Summer Games.amz/bb

Mock trade proposal sends Heat guard Tyler Herro to the Houston Rockets
After failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension last fall, Tyler Herro's future with the Miami Heat seems to be in jeopardy as he enters the final year of his contract. While Herro and the Heat will be able to renegotiate this summer, there's reason to believe that Miami could trade the former Kentucky product if the two sides are unable to come to terms on a new deal.A recent article by Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz ranked possible landing spots for Herro, and the Rockets came in at No. 3. In Swartz's proposed deal, he has the Rockets acquiring Herro and the No. 41 overall pick from Miami for Jabari Smith Jr. and Clint Capela. Considering Capela's limited usage last season, his departure wouldn't be a major subtraction. However, it's worth noting that Smith Jr. may be difficult to give up without an extension in place for Herro, as Smith Jr. is under team control for the next five seasons. While acquiring Herro would add another proven scorer and shot-creator, Houston would need to address their lack of depth on the wing after Smith Jr.'s departure, considering another wing player, Tari Eason, will be a restricted free agent this summer. This article originally appeared on Rockets Wire: Mock trade proposal sends Heat guard Tyler Herro to the Rockets

Jason Whitlock labels reporter as ‘original Dianna Russini’ over Caitlin Clark trade rumor criticism
Photo by Mark Alberti/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesJason Whitlock and Jeff Goodman have turned the Caitlin Clark trade rumor into a media fight, with the Los Angeles Sparks speculation now sparking shots between reporters. The rumor around Clark leaving the Indiana Fever remains unverified, but it has still created a loud debate because of her value to the franchise and the WNBA.Once Goodman mocked Whitlock’s claim, the story shifted from the possible trade itself to the credibility of the people discussing it.Whitlock has been critical of the Fever’s handling of Clark, and his belief that a Sparks move could happen gave Goodman an opening to fire back.Photo by Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesJeff Goodman mocks Jason Whitlock over Caitlin Clark trade rumorJeff Goodman on X reacted to Jason Whitlock’s Caitlin Clark trade claim by questioning whether the commentator had any real reporting behind the Los Angeles Sparks speculation.“Jason Whitlock trying to break news for the first time in his life. This should age well,” Goodman tweeted. The jab was aimed at Whitlock’s suggestion that Clark could end up with the Sparks, a claim that has not been backed by confirmed reporting from the Fever or any major WNBA decision-maker.That is what made the criticism easy to understand. Clark is the face of Indiana’s franchise, and the idea of trading her would be so massive that it would need far stronger evidence than social media chatter.Jason Whitlock fires Dianna Russini insult at Jeff Goodman after Caitlin Clark pushbackJason Whitlock on X responded to Goodman by attacking his ethics and calling him the “original Dianna Russini” as the Caitlin Clark debate became personal.“Lol. Jeff try to have some ethics and integrity for the first time in your life. You’re the original Dianna Russini, and everybody knows it,” Whitlock tweeted. The Russini comparison turned the exchange into a broader media credibility fight. Whitlock was not only defending his Clark prediction, he was accusing Goodman of lacking the standards he claimed to be enforcing. The actual basketball question remains unresolved. Clark has dealt with Fever pressure, Stephanie White scrutiny, and constant debate around Indiana’s direction, but there is still no confirmed sign that the team plans to move its biggest star. For now, the Sparks rumor is loud rather than proven. The Goodman-Whitlock fight only made it louder, while Clark remains the player everyone is still building the argument around.Read more:Fired journalist raises fresh questions about Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini with new revelation teaseNew England Patriots star answers if Mike Vrabel has changed after the Dianna Russini controversyHow Patriots coach Mike Vrabel is focusing on his job amid distractions because of Dianna Russini controversy

JB Pritzker and legislative leaders say they are willing to work with the team, but questions remain about whether they can agree on a plan - and whether they can act quickly enough - to keep the Bears in Illinois. The Bears' announcement comes after the Illinois House and Senate passed separate stadium proposals that failed to win support in the opposite chamber. The legislative session ended without a deal, prompting the team to announce it is pursuing a site in Hammond. While no move has been finalized, a league source says it is not a done deal. That leaves a narrow opening for Illinois, with Arlington Heights still seen as a possible option if lawmakers can act swiftly.Senate President Don Harmon said in a statement, "We are ready and willing to re-engage with the Chicago Bears when they realize Illinois will always be the best place for them."House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch echoed that position, saying, "Illinois remains open to ongoing efforts to secure the Bears in Illinois. However, it will take time to get it right."Sports business analyst Marc Ganis, president of Sports Corp. Ltd., said the situation is still fluid."They are not finished with the deal with Indiana yet, and that is the sliver of hope Illinois might have if it acted quickly," Ganis said.Across the state line, Indiana officials are expressing confidence. State Rep. Earl Harris Jr., a Lake County Democrat, said discussions he has had in Indiana suggest the project is moving forward."My understanding and conversation I've had with people here in Indiana is that this is definitely a go," Harris said. He added, "We are 100% confident that eventually we'll be able to sit in a stadium in Hammond, Indiana, and be glad to see the Bears play their first home game there."Pritzker's office reiterated the governor's position in a statement, saying, "Governor Pritzker has always been clear that he wants the Bears to stay in Illinois / and still remains open to a sensible solution that protects taxpayers."The issue is also drawing attention in the governor's race. Republican challenger Darren Bailey weighed in, saying, "I do know one thing, I'd hate to be the governor that loses the Chicago Bears."Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson did not take questions from reporters after an event but released a statement addressing the uncertainty surrounding the team's plans. "Without a final site selection, until we see shovels in the ground in Hammond, the City will continue to engage in discussions grounded in the interests of our residents," Johnson said.Ganis said the Bears' posture reflects the lack of a clear alternative in Illinois."This has never been a leverage play. It has been the option, and because there is no Illinois option right now, there is only one option on the table for the Bears," he said.Still, some Illinois lawmakers say talks are continuing. State Rep. Kam Buckner, who co-led negotiations with the team, posted on social media that he spoke with Bears President Kevin Warren earlier in the day."He ended the conversation by committing to continue discussions around their pursuit of a new stadium in Illinois," Buckner wrote. For now, momentum appears to favor Indiana, but Illinois leaders maintain the Bears' future is not yet settled, leaving what may be a final opportunity to keep the team in the state.RELATED: Illinois General Assembly ends session without passing Chicago Bears stadium billIllinois Gov. JB Pritzker's office issued the following full statement on Friday: "The Bears have built a storied legacy in Illinois for over 100 years but have spent the last six years, and especially the last few months, shifting their position on a stadium location. That has hindered their progress. Today appears to be another instance of that after Illinois leaders have been working with the Bears in good faith. Governor Pritzker has always been clear that he wants the Bears to stay in Illinois and still remains open to a sensible solution that protects taxpayers."This comes after Illinois lawmakers ended the spring session this past weekend without passing legislation to keep the team in Illinois and build in Arlington Heights. The failed measure would've allowed for a mostly Bears-funded stadium that would be publicly owned, meaning the team would not have to pay property taxes. It passed the Senate but stalled in the House. Suburban leaders in Arlington Heights are hopeful the team could still build on the old Arlington Park site.Illinois Senate President Don Harmon issued a statement on Friday, saying, "The Chicago Bears have been saying for some time now that Hammond, Indiana is their main focus. Today's statement isn't fundamentally different than what the team said in February after Indiana voted to give the Chicago Bears more than a billion dollars in taxpayer money if they move to Indiana. But that didn't stop their conversations about a future here in Illinois, and it doesn't appear that today's statement will either. We are ready and willing to re-engage with the Chicago Bears when they realize Illinois will always be the best place for them."House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch said in a statement Friday, "In April, the House passed an economic development package that was the product of extensive negotiation with the Bears and other stakeholders. That bipartisan legislation reflected our belief that we can incentivize statewide development and provide property tax relief for working people. While Indiana is willing to raise taxes and promise $1 billion in taxpayer funds, Illinois has focused on the needs of working families who want relief at the gas pump, at the store, and on their insurance bills-not taxpayer-funded stadiums. Illinois remains open to ongoing efforts to secure the Bears in Illinois. However, it will take time to get it right."Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement, "Over the last several years the Bears have stated their intentions in multiple jurisdictions, today's announcement is not surprising. It's also not surprising that Bears officials have stated this vote does not mean a move to Hammond is a done deal. Without a final site selection, until we see shovels in the ground in Hammond, the City will continue to engage in discussions grounded in the interests of our residents."Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, "While today's announcement that the Chicago Bears' Board of Directors has voted to move forward with a relocation to Hammond, Indiana, conversations are ongoing. Cook County remains willing to engage with team ownership and state leaders to explore a path that keeps the Bears in Illinois. As those conversations continue, I am committed to solutions that protect taxpayer dollars while continuing to support the legacy of the Bears in our state."Outside of Soldier Field Friday, ABC7 broke the news to a couple of Bears fans.Chicago Bears fans are reacting after the team said the Board of Directors voted to advance a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana."That's the worst news I've heard all year maybe my entire life," Bears fan Aiden Uppling said. "This is outrage, this is wrong, like my heart is beating out my chest, I can't believe this.""I was hoping and praying. I really wanted it in Arlington, because that's closer to where we live," fan Rex Chapman said. "I'm lowkey devastated, I'm not gonna lie."Friday's development was met with disbelief and questions."I just knew they were going to work something out so they were going to stay in Chicago, I can't believe it," fan Elana Smith said."What stopped, what held up the discussion, where they were just like, okay we are through there was nothing we could do here in Chicago to keep our team in our state," fan Alisha Smith said."I'm thankful they are not too far. I'm still mad just like everybody... but at least they are just right over the border, a 20-30 minutes drive and we can still see a game," fan Erik Holston Jr. said. Some say they will not be going to see the Bears in Indiana. Fan Jessica Neely says she was considering buying season tickets, but not now."I hate this for us, I don't like it at all," Neely said. "It's good for Hammond, Indiana, but why? I feel like there were so many options."Some shared they think this move disrespects the devotion of Bears fans."Everything they might have gained isn't for us, because we are not getting anything from it," Joseph Murillo said. 'We are losing our team."Fans ABC7 spoke with hope this isn't the final move. They urged Bears executives to consider the revenue lost from fans who aren't willing to cross the state line for games. The Bears previously said they would make a decision about their stadium by late spring or early summer.

Vegas-Carolina Stanley Cup Final is ‘a new series’ going into Game 3 after Canes’ comeback
Jun 4, 2026; Raleigh, North Carolina, USA; Vegas Golden Knights left wing Ivan Barbashev (49) shoots the puck against Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen (31) during the third period in game two of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final at Lenovo Center. Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn ImagesNathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn ImagesBefore the Carolina Hurricanes made their comeback, before the Vegas Golden Knights needed a goal with 81 seconds left in regulation to tie it and before Seth Jarvis scored in overtime, the sound of Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final was silence. The same crowd that roared at the start of the series was stunned, with their beloved Hurricanes shut out through the first two periods for the first time since mid-January. They were fewer than 15 minutes away from a 2-0 hole that only five of 55 teams have overcome to hoist the Cup.The topsy-turvy ride that followed ended with Carolina winning in emotional fashion and making this a competitive series between two of the best teams in the NHL. Game 3 is Saturday night in Las Vegas. If it is anything like the first two, it is best to expect the unexpected the rest of the way.“It’s obviously a new series, a five-game series now,” said defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who leads the Hurricanes with three points so far in the final. “A lot of emotions throughout the games, too. For almost 50 minutes there it’s kind of low, and then kind of even, then really high, then low again, and then high. It’s a roller coaster for sure.”This final is shaping up to be more like a seesaw, with wild momentum swings back and forth. This is the first Cup final in league history in which each of the first two games featured a multigoal comeback victory.Carolina is now the first team in 82 years to win a game in the final when down by more than one goal within the final 10 minutes of regulation. That would also make Vegas — which fell behind by two goals in the opener — the first team since 1944 to blow such a lead.“The sport of hockey is funny that way,” Golden Knights center William Karlsson said Friday. “I think that’s why we all love it. It can go either way at any times .... But it’s hockey. It’s a game of mistakes, and it’s bound to happen.”The Hurricanes after cruising through the first three rounds with 12 wins and just one loss met their match in Vegas, and that was evident in Game 1. What also became clear is that neither of team is going to get pushed around for an entire night, even if there are stretches of domination by one side or the other.“It’s going to be hard to play your best game — that’s the point,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “It would be great if you could do it for the whole 60 minutes. But it’s probably not going to be that way because they’re a very, very good team.”Counterpart John Tortorella emphasized that again before he and his team flew home, insisting he likes where Vegas is at two games into its biggest challenge yet this postseason. The Golden Knights have stolen home-ice advantage and get to play the next two on The Strip, where Tortorella can better control matchups.“There’s no difference,” Tortorella said. “We’re going to play. We know how to play. We know how we want to play.”So do the Hurricanes, and it’s what they displayed at the end of Game 2. Logan Stankoven provided the spark, Mark Jankowski kept it going and Jordan Staal scored on a power play after Tortorella’s failed goaltender interference challenge became a difference-making moment.Of course, the Golden Knights dominating for much of the first two periods and the start of the third showed why they’ve been such a buzzsaw since Tortorella took over in late March. Brind’Amour acknowledged the vibes around his team were better than they could have been if not for the turnaround, but neither team should expect to feel too good about itself for toon long in a series like this.Players are embracing that as part of the fun.“This is exciting,” Jarvis said. “This is what playoff hockey’s all about is tight games and momentum swings, and you never really know what’s going to happen next. I don’t think you can ask any more of a playoff series.”

Washington football picks up pledge from big-bodied 4-star Arizona WR
The Washington Huskies have added another high-end wide receiver to the 2027 class, with four-star Dontay Tyson choosing Jedd Fisch's coaching staff over the Texas A&M Aggies. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound product of Peoria High School in Arizona, who is ranked as the No. 39 wide receiver and No. 6 player in the state by 247Sports, had narrowed his list of 20 offers down to two, and didn't wait long after his official visit to Seattle to pull the trigger. Now, he joins one of the nation's best classes of wide receivers already committed to position coach Kevin Cummings: four-stars Braylon Pope, Tre Moore, and Zerek Sidney. Tyson also brings a complementary play style to the table that should help him excel in the Z position or move all over the formation in Fisch's offense.Although he was limited to just seven games during his junior campaign, he was still able to post 38 catches for 447 yards and 7 touchdowns while showing off a promising skill set that could get him on the field early at the college level."He really excels on go routes and wide receiver screens and has home run hitting ability," former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote in an evaluation of Tyson. "He’s strong in the air with excellent body control and routinely wins 50-50 jump balls. He uses his body well to shield smaller defensive backs and is tough to bring down in the open field. He has strong hands as well and catches the ball through contact."With his pledge, the Huskies now have 17 commits in the 2027 class and are sitting with the nation's No. 14 class according to 247Sports.This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: Washington Huskies pick up pledge from big-bodied 4-star Arizona WR

The most bizarre NBA awards ballot ever (on record)
When the NBA released its full All-NBA ballots after the 2018-19 season, one of them got the attention of Dwyane Wade himself. Kennegh Lau of China's BesTV had Wade, who had been on his farewell tour averaging 15 points in 26 minutes a night, on his All-NBA 2nd Team. Wade quickly reacted to the selection on Twitter:The wife and i having a little fun. It’s so many guys in our league that’s deserving of a spot on either team or teams and it’s always someone that will be left off the list. It’s unfortunate but that’s the game. Klay understands that better than anyone.— DWade (@DwyaneWade) May 25, 2019That is the most extreme outlier full ballot in our Media Vote Tracker, the tool we launched last week that lets you look up how every media voter has filled out NBA award ballots over the years. The tracker gives each voter a contrarian score, which measures how far their picks strayed from the consensus across every award they voted on.A typical voter scores around 5 percent in the Outlier Rating. Lau's 2018-19 ballot came in at 36 percent. The Wade pick was not the only big surprise on his All-NBA 2nd Team. Lau also had Luka Doncic and Danilo Gallinari there. Doncic had a stellar rookie season, but his team finished 14th in the West. Gallinari had the best year of his career in his final season with the Clippers, though his numbers were nowhere near 2nd Team territory. And Wade, at that stage, had cratered to a level of production that should not have put him on any awards list.Lau's All-NBA 3rd Team included Marvin Bagley (!), Pascal Siakam and Donovan Mitchell. Bagley, also a rookie, averaged 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds and finished seventh in Rookie of the Year voting. Siakam was just coming into his own in his third season and won Most Improved Player that year, but 16.9 points and 6.9 rebounds should not warrant an All-NBA vote. Mitchell was the most defensible of the three after a strong sophomore year of 23.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. Even so, not a single one of the other 99 voters put any of those three players on a ballot. Some players Lau left off might be the most telling part. Paul George made 1st Team All-NBA and finished third in the MVP vote playing all 82 games and averaging a career-high 25.6 points, 5.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds. It was the only All-NBA 1st Team selection of George's career, and he earned it without any help from Lau, who skipped him entirely. Also excluded from his ballot: Nikola Jokic (1st Team), Kawhi Leonard (2nd Team), Kyrie Irving (2nd Team) and LeBron James (3rd Team).Lau found room instead for Jordan Bell on his All-Defensive 2nd Team. Bell played 11.6 minutes per game that season and averaged 0.8 blocks and 0.3 steals, a complete non-factor in any awards discussion. Kevin Durant, Bam Adebayo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Terrance Ferguson rounded out that All-Defensive 2nd Team, and Adebayo, SGA and Ferguson did not receive a vote from anyone else in the 100-ballot pool. The Defensive Player of the Year portion followed the same pattern. Lau had Rudy Gobert third, even though Gobert was the runaway consensus pick with 82.2 percent of the maximum possible score that season. Giannis Antetokounmpo and George rounded out the Top 3 among voters, and Lau picked neither. His Top 2, Draymond Green and Joel Embiid, did not crack the Top 3 of the award overall.Though the league is less punitive about outlier votes than you might expect, it goes without saying that was the final ballot Lau ever got for end-of-season NBA awards. This content may be blocked in parts of Europe due to GDPR. How four-star WR Dontay Tyson's commitment affects Washington football
The Washington Huskies earned their fourth wide receiver commitment of 2027 on Friday when Peoria (Ariz.) standout Dontay Tyson announced his pledge to Jedd Fisch's coaching staff over the Texas A&M Aggies.Tyson, the No. 325 player and No. 42 wide receiver in the class per the 247Sports Composite, is Washington's 17th commitment and eighth blue-chip commitment of the cycle. Four of the Huskies' top six recruits in 2027 are now foundational pieces of the offense: quarterback Blake Roskopf, receiver Tre Moore, receiver Braylon Pope, and Tyson. The other two are both defensive tackles: Tevita Nonu of local O'Dea and Jon Ioane of Tustin (Calif.).Fisch and wide receivers coach Kevin Cummings have now gotten commitments from 13 wide receivers since their first full class on Montlake in 2025. But how does Tyson fit in to what's quickly becoming a crowded group?Let's start here: ten of Washington's eleven scholarship receivers on this year's roster have remaining eligibility in 2027. Only Kennesaw State transfer Christian Moss is guaranteed to graduate, and all but Moss and redshirt junior Rashid Williams are redshirt sophomores or younger. Sophomore Dezmen Roebuck is expected to be the team's top receiver this season and will presumably return as such in 2027 as a junior, barring a massive NIL check elsewhere. Sophomore Chris Lawson and freshman Jordan Clay have been in the mix with Moss as the starting X, and both should play a decent amount this year.Freshman Mason James will back up Roebuck in the slot, freshman Trez Davis can work at all three positions, and redshirt freshman Bodpegn Miller has tantalizing traits at the X but missed most of the spring with an injury after transferring in from Ohio State. Redshirt sophomore Justice Williams and redshirt freshman Deji Ajose are the furthest away from playing time, but even then, both had their moments this spring.Add Moore, Pope, Tyson, and three-star Desert Edge (Ariz.) recruit Zerek Sidney - a high school teammate of Roskopf's - and there will be a tenacious battle for playing time next spring. Even if you assume Justice Williams and Ajose transfer in search of greener pastures, the Huskies would have eight receivers returning and four more coming in, all of whom are on the cusp of productivity. That could result in some tough decisions this offseason, like letting Rashid Williams cash in elsewhere for his senior season or one of Clay, Davis, James, or Miller deciding to search for playing time at another school.Such is a testament to the job Cummings has done luring talent to Montlake that the arrival of the 2027 group may inherently push out older, more experienced players. Moore chose Washington over Miami and Ohio State, while Tyson picked the Huskies on Friday over Texas A&M. While Moore and Pope both stand at a reported 6-foot-3 and may shake up the depth chart at X, Tyson could play any of the three receiver spots thanks to his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. He qualified for the Arizona state track meet in the 100 and 200 meters as a freshman and has experience taking handoffs (29 in his high school career to date) from his receiver spot.Tyson told 247Sports on May 28 that playing early was important to him, but that "the most important thing is getting developed." Washington's staff has shown the ability to do both: they burned redshirts for Roebuck, Lawson, and since-transferred Raiden Vines-Bright in 2025, and Audric Harris in 2024, while developing Roebuck into a standout starter and the first Husky freshman to record a 100-yard performance since 2017 despite his three-star recruiting pedigree.Go back further, and Cummings' track record of producing receivers becomes even clearer. At Arizona, Cummings mentored future first-round NFL draft pick Tetairoa McMillan and led Jacob Cowing and Dorian Singer to more than 1,000 yards, the first time that two Arizona receivers went over that mark in the same season in program history. Bailey Gaither earned All-Mountain West first team honors at San Jose State under Cummings' tutelage during his first stop as a wide receivers coach as well.Fast forward a few years, and a theoretical offense of Roskopf, Moore, Pope, and Tyson in 2029 could easily be one of the most high-powered groups in the country. Washington has plenty more to fill out in the meantime, but if they can hang on to those four until they reach their true junior seasons, the Huskies should be incredibly dangerous in what would be Fisch's sixth season at the helm. This article originally appeared on Huskies Wire: How 4-star WR Dontay Tyson's commitment affects Washington Huskies

The feeling was shocking, the Hall of Fame forward said.Barkley said that San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama was "in shock" after the first half of Game 2 of the 2026 NBA Finals, which the visiting New York Knicks led 56-52 after 24 minutes of play."It's probably been a long time since he got his ass kicked like this."Chuck thinks KAT is dominating Wemby 💪 pic.twitter.com/VVIVPyDjvB— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) June 6, 2026The physicality that Karl-Anthony Towns and the Knicks played with clearly took Wembanyama off his game in the first half, as he tallied only 7 points of 2-for-4 shooting to go with 5 rebounds at the half.Meanwhile, Towns poured it on to lead the Knicks, scoring 17 points before halftime, including a trio of key three-pointers.A masterful performance by Towns and the Knicks shouldn't be shocking to anyone at this point as New York looks to extend its undefeated streak in these playoffs. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Victor Wembanyama 'in shock' as Karl-Anthony Towns, Knicks lead Game 2

Cleetus McFarland involved in ARCA championship affecting crash
Motorsport photoJust before the ARCA race at Michigan International Speedway was called just past halfway to its scheduled distance for rain, an incident involving Cleetus McFarland had an impact on a fringe unlikely championship contender. On lap 49 of 100, second in points Ryan Vargas dived under the YouTuber also known legally as Garrett Mitchell. He was held tight and broke traction when he lost the nose. They both washed up the track and into the path of an oncoming Andy Jankowiak, the winner of the April race at Talladega before ultimately collecting Jason Kitzmiller as well. They were all racing for ninth. TROUBLE. Cleetus McFarland and Ryan Vargas make contact, and Andy Jankowiak gets collected 😬📺 FS2 | @MISpeedwaypic.twitter.com/IHjrqTcpLs— ARCA Menards Series (@ARCA_Racing) June 5, 2026In real time, spotter Kevin Hamlin had told Cleetus that he needed to hold a car below him tighter but in this case, he was also told after the crash that 'no one gave anyone room' by the veteran spotter.“I haven't looked yet, but I mean, give up the position and let him clear you, it’s probably not going to happen,” Cleetus said. “But it's like we're in a race, so I don't know. There's a balance to it. And I'm still learning.”Vargas was looking for Cleetus in the garage after the race to talk it over but also ask him for a little bit more space when someone has position under him like he felt like he did. “I mean just tight three-wide racing (and) got a little snug on the bottom inside there,” Vargas said. “I just washed up a little and I just had no room to the top side. But I mean at the end of the day I slid up. So, I guess you could say that is on me but nobody was cutting anybody any breaks out there, which I don't get.“I mean, I was getting my doors tight by lapped cars out there. It was just disappointing racing, for sure. … I think we were up to what, seventh (to) eighth for a little bit there racing, dicing it up with the Nitro (Motorsports) cars. So I mean that just goes to show how much we've improved.”Was there any consideration of lifting off the throttle knowing the inexperience from the driver the longtime O'Reilly Series racer was trying to overtake?“In that instance, I entered the corner with him on my right rear corner, so you would expect somebody to give some room,” Vargas said. “Again, Garrett's learning, so I'm not mad at him at all. He's racing and honestly he's been doing a phenomenal job. So I just feel gutted for this team and everybody and all the force involved. So we live to fight another day.”Ultimately, Vargas was left disappointed because he feels even a 12th place finish all but ends his longshot bid to win the championship racing for underfunded Maples Motorsports against Nitro drivers Jake Bollman and Thomas Annunziatta. He entered the race 23 points back and is now 28 points back.“It’s gutting,” Vargas said. “I mean that effectively kind of takes us out of it right there. I hate to say it, maybe that's just me being morbid, but I think we're still in the hunt. But regardless, the fact that we've made it this far and we've kind of been a thorn in so many people's side this year with a fifth of what some of these teams have, I think that just goes to show what our team has done.“We have a small group of, I think we got five or six people at the shop that works there, and that's not all crew guys. So I mean, it means a lot to have people, teams that believe in me and just that's what makes nights like this suck.”Even Jankowiak had his longshot championship chances affected by the crash as he entered the race fourth and 40 points back.“I can't see that,” Jankowiak said of how much he knew about what was happened under his car. “I was trying to run in a way that gave him enough room. I knew I was outside three wide and I seen someone's fender coming up into my door, so I moved up and there's just this weird spot off Turn 2 over there where it gets flat. I've done it, I saved it the first time and the second time I just couldn't save it.” Read Also: Gio Ruggiero wins rain-shortened ARCA race, pole-sitter Cleetus McFarland wrecks Joe Gibbs Racing, Chris Gabehart, Spire agree to terms on deleted text message retrieval In addition to all of this, Bollman increased his championship lead, now over teammate Annuziatta, with a second place finish.“Yeah, I'm not really looking at it,” Bollman said. “I'm just looking at my finishes. If they're closing in, they're closing in. If I'm pulling away, I'm pulling away. It's just really about me. I'm focused on points by keeping my finishes solid, not putting myself in situations that I don't want to be in, but still trying to get after the win. And I feel like this weekend was really going to be our day just until that last restart.”To read more Motorsport.com articles visit our website.

Anderson, Eicher crowned state champions on Day 1 of WIAA girls state track
LA CROSSE - The 55th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association girls state track and field meet kicked off on Friday, June 5 with preliminary action in the sprints, a pair of long-distance finals and field events for Division 1 transpiring all over Veterans Memorial Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The greater Milwaukee area crowned two state champions in the first session of the weekend, along with countless athletes putting themselves in position to win state championships on the final day of the season on Saturday. Here's a look at the state champion duo, along with some of the area's top times and top finishers from the D1 action prior to Division 2 and 3 action to close the first day of action.Note: The Division 2 and 3 session is currently in a weather delay as of 9 p.m. with events such as the girls' 800-meter final and the 1,600-meter relay preliminary heats still to come. The WIAA also announced the wheelchair shot-put finals would be moved to 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 6.Franklin's Ella Anderson sets school record to win D1 state high jump titleAfter running on Franklin's 800-meter relay team that just missed qualifying for Saturday's final heat by 0.01 seconds, sophomore Ella Anderson felt like she was on fumes as the Division 1 state high jump competition with four competitors left at five feet, seven inches. It took all three allotted efforts at 5-7, but Anderson came up clutch on her final attempt to clear the height and win her first state title after finishing tied for 12th place as a freshman."It was amazing," Anderson said on standing on the top step of the podium for the first time. "I was pretty tired after the 4x200 relay, but I was feeling ready. I could feel it at that height and I'm just so happy."Anderson's main goal was making the podium coming into her sophomore campaign, but by the end of the action of the first session, she was a state champion by setting a personal best and also became Franklin's new all-time record holder for girls high jump in any event."The goal was to get back here to state, but I didn't see winning happening," Anderson said with a laugh. "I was coming in kinda nervous, but I just told myself to do what I do and let it all work out."Arrowhead's Payton Eicher gets Warhawks' three-peat bid off to great start with D1 long jump titlePayton Eicher ran the second-best qualifying time in the 100-meter heats and then made sure she wasn't second on the podium in the long jump competition. She didn't top her personal best of 20 feet to set a Classic 8 Conference record earlier this season, but standing atop the podium .75 inches from the state meet record with a gold medal is still a good Friday afternoon for the future Youngstown State athlete."I was super stoked about long jump because I knew it wasn't gonna be an easy pathway through," Eicher said. "I definitely still had those nerves of like, 'OK, I gotta push myself as far as I can to get to the position I want to be in."Eicher led the competition after the first flight with a jump just over 19 feet, but widened her lead even further in the final three jumps with a leap of 19-8 on her fourth and her meet-best 19-9 jump on the final attempt. It wasn't ideal circumstances to jump three times after having to exert some energy on the 400-meter relay heats where Arrowhead topped the leaderboard, but it worked out in the end for Eicher."I was hoping to jump before I had to run my 4x1, which ended up working out," Eicher said. "I think it worked for the better because I was a lot more relaxed (for the high jump) because I was like, 'OK, I know I have nothing else after this. I can focus all my attention to this and I think it was really exciting."Knautz, New Berlin West, Pius set D2, D3 state meet records in preliminary heatsIn her quest to win the 100/200 sprint double in D3, along with a potential state title in the 400-meter relay, Dominican senior Sydney Knautz started her Friday off with a bang. She won her heat in the 100 meters and set a D3 state meet record in the process with a time of 12.10 seconds, .19 better than defending champion Bella Thomas from Assumption. Dominican ran a 50.07 in its preliminary heat to qualify as the No. 7 seed in the final heat.Over in Division 2, Pius XI Catholic's quartet of TyJah Horton, Samara Crowley, Alanna Loyd and Nyomi Seals-Presti set a D2 state meet record with a time of 1:41.27 in the first heat of the 800-meter relay preliminaries. It stood for about five real-time minutes.Two-time defending state champion New Berlin West took its record back in the second heat with a time of 1:40.87, setting up an awesome matchup between the two area programs in the final on Saturday. The record-setting group was Caroline Gerovac, Aubrey Lane, Harmony Billups and Ashley Babcock.Pius' fortunes would take a positive turn later on in the 400-meter relay. After Xavier broke the D2 state meet record with a time of 48.03, Horton, Crowley, Seals-Presti and Loyd broke that record with a time of record of 47.60 to take the top seed heading into the final.Top qualifiers for Saturday's final heatsTwo of the top four qualifiers in the girls D1 100-meter hurdles preliminary heats are from the area as Sussex Hamilton's Macy Price (14.882) and West Bend West's Rylee Faehling (14.889) ran the third and fourth-best times in the qualifying heats. Price went 44.78 to win her heat with the third-best time. The area dominated the top times on the board in the D1 sprints, specifically in the 100. Bott also went to the top of the board in the 400 to win her heat with a time of 56.18 seconds. Pewaukee's Vanessa Johnson joined Bott in Saturday's final with a time of 56.47 seconds to take third on the overall board.Arrowhead's quartet of Payton Eicher, Elise Schroeder, Josie Bularz and Giselle Huggett zoomed to a time of 46.56 seconds to pace the field in the D1 4x100 relay preliminary heats. Mukwonago (48.25) and South Milwaukee (48.84) joined the Warhawks in Saturday's final heat.Mukwonago's team of Rileigh Black, Libby Gnewuch, Emma Craig and Laela Presendofer led the charge in the D1 4x200 relay preliminary field with a time of 1:40.99. 'Inside the NBA' crew blasts Victor Wembanyama: 'Probably been a long time since he got his a— kicked like this' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Victor Wembanyama endured a turgid first half in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The French phenom struggled mightily in the Spurs' series opener against the Knicks, missing 15 of 21 shots as San Antonio fell. His struggles continued early Friday night. Wembanyama was virtually invisible through the game's opening two quarters, failing to make much of a mark despite his imposing frame. With Karl-Anthony Towns feeling it for New York, San Antonio found itself in dire straits by the end of the first half."Inside the NBA" was attuned to Wembanyama's struggles. Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith expressed dismay over the 22-year-old's first-half outing, leading to several viral clips. Here's what you need to know.NBA FINALS HQ:Live NBA scores | NBA playoff schedule | NBA playoff bracketWhat did the 'Inside the NBA' Crew say about Victor Wembanyama?Barkley offered a scathing critique of Wembanyama's first half performance. The Spurs big attempted just four shots in the opening 24 minutes of Game 2, struggling to affect the game on the offensive end of the floor. His defense toiled as the half wore on, as well, with Towns erupting for a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists to help New York turn a nine-point first-quarter deficit into a four-point lead at the halftime break.Barkley claimed that Wembanyama was "in shock" over Towns' impressive showcase."It's probably been a long time since he got his ass kicked like this," Barkley said.Charles Barkley:"Wemby's in shock right now. "Listen, we can say what we want to, he's 22, he's going to own the league soon. But right now, Big KAT is just taking his ass to the wood shed, plain and simple."More from Charles:"He's gonna own the league soon, but right now Big KAT is just taking his ass to the woodshed plain and simple" https://t.co/JXWPL8Kwuvpic.twitter.com/gh0i0AUzHU— Oh No He Didn't (@ohnohedidnt24) June 6, 2026Barkley wasn't alone in his assessment. O'Neal questioned Wembanyama's energy and aggression, leading to a lively chat between him and his co-hosts."I thought he was going to come out with a little more aggression," O'Neal said. "He didn't take his first shot until the first four minutes of the game."He's not showing me anything right now. I'm actually surprised."Do you all agree with Kenny and Charles that Victor Wembanyama is in shock, or do you agree with Shaq that he is playing with no energy? pic.twitter.com/RYiz3owFEg— Jet (@_jetgaming) June 6, 2026Smith offered the most bizarre analogy for Wembanyama's first-half outing, comparing the league's first-ever unanimous Defensive Player of the Year...to former Magic guard Nick Anderson. Anderson famously missed four last-second free throws in Game 1 of the 1995 Finals, a series Smith and the Rockets would win in a sweep."KAT has him in shock. That's it," Smith said. "A great player is in shock. Nick Anderson was a great player at that time. He became in shock."Kenny comparing Wemby to Nick Anderson. Seems a bit much."KAT has him in shock. That's it. Mike Brown's decision to lean on Towns worked wonders in Game 1. It continued to pay dividends in Game 2, with Towns using his stout frame to disrupt Wembanyama's rhythm whenever he tried to post up.That strength was evident on the offensive end, as well. Towns showed no fear attacking Wembanyama in the paint, even throwing down a dunk over the Frenchman's outstretched arm in the second quarter.KARL-ANTHONY TOWNS DUNK THROUGH TRAFFIC. 😤😤 pic.twitter.com/nDf1AS6Ozz— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) June 6, 2026Sprinkle in some precise passing and his typically smooth shot form, and it was easy to see why Towns — and the Knicks — were able to achieve such success against Wemby and Co. in the first half.

Seaside adds another dimension to Ridgeline Trail
John Meyer and his Ridgeline Club have added another piece to Seaside High School’s Ridgeline Trail. The retired teacher set out with a vision a few years ago to build a hiking, mountain biking and running trail around Seaside High School. This was intended to give local mountain bikers a course on which to test their skills. In addition to mountain biking, the trail has become a staple of cross country season. Seaside now hosts The Ridgeline Invitational, a cross country meet that will be entering its fourth year in fall 2026.Throughout the building of the trail Meyer has always been open to feedback in order to make the trail as good as possible. With enthusiasm in the community towards a more advanced trail, Meyer and his Ridgeline Club recently partnered with Home Depot to add 38 new feet of decking over the spring ditch at Stinson Creekside Trail. The Stinson Trail is one of many side loops of the main Ridgeline Trail.“Home Depot has in the past done a lot of work with veterans and their homes,” Meyer said. “I didn’t really plan to ask them for help, but the assistant store manager, Arthur Koustik, has done these projects before and offered to help out once he got word of what we were doing.”On Thursday May 14, Home Depot and Meyers’ Seaside Ridgeline Club got to work. Due to them having nine-and-a-half acres of land to work with, they got to work building the Rimshot Deck.“Home Depot built everything,” Meyer said. “After they were done we ordered pizza and Ridgeline Club President Chantrell Lee gave a speech and thanked them.”According to Meyer, Ridgeline Trail is the only true mountain biking trail on the North Coast and he is hoping that adding the wooden deck to Stinson Creekside Trail will lead to even more biking enthusiasts using it.“This trail is definitely geared more towards biking than the jumps,” Meyer said. “The owner of A’s Bike Shop in Seaside has expressed interest in putting together a race and having his riders participate.“We want to have more people ride it, since the more people ride it, the better the trail will get.”

The silly Caitlin Clark-Sparks trade rumors, explained (as best we can)
Are the Indiana Fever on the verge of trading superstar guard Caitlin Clark to the Los Angeles Sparks? Okay, let's pump the brakes as hard as we can and think for a second. Why in the world is such a ridiculous idea floating around the internet right now? It's definitely not real, but let us explain what's going on right now.Well, a series of social media posts from former NBA player and Los Angeles Lakers broadcaster Mychal Thompson (father of Klay Thompson) claiming that the Fever didn't want Clark any longer and were "sick" of her garnered some attention on Thursday night. Thompson then implored the Sparks go get Clark via a trade. Then, former ESPN and Fox Sports 1 sports personality Jason Whitlock made a wild claim on Friday that the Fever were planning to actually trade Clark to the Sparks and that UCLA coach Cori Close was expected to take over in Los Angeles upon Clark's arrival. Unlike Skip Bayless getting duped by a fake insider on bogus Fever intel, Whitlock shared this perplexing information as if he'd heard from a source that this was all about to go down in the WNBA. MORE: Why fake sports insider accounts are tricking people like Skip BaylessMuch ado has been made about the Fever and Clark ever since she and coach Stephanie White had an intense coaching moment over last weekend in a Portland Fire loss. Much of the outrage on the viral clip seemed to take place outside of the Indiana locker room; Clark and White both emphatically brushed the moment off as a nothingburger and hugged in celebration during Thursday's Fever home win over the Atlanta Dream. However, speculation that Clark isn't happy with the Fever, or the Fever aren't happy with her, or that the Fever want to trade her, has been running rampant since before the 2026 season. That's why Whitlock's post about a possible Fever-Sparks trade captured people's attention... well, that and the fact we live in a post-Luka Dončić Lakers world. The biggest reality pushing against any sort of Clark trade is the infallible virtue of plain old common sense. The Dončić trade basically broke the Matrix on how we perceive what's possible in a sports trade. If the Dallas Mavericks could stun the globe and ship off one of the league's best players overnight, could the Fever do the same with Clark? The deranged conspiracies already suffocate so much of the Clark/Fever discourse. A Clark trade would almost serve as some sort of prophetic actualization to validate all the imagined bad vibes various camps in this never-ending nonsense tornado about Clark and Indiana. That's why it's baloney; there is no Clark trade happening. How do we know that? Basic economics. Clark is the biggest economic driver in the WNBA; she makes the Fever one of the most financially lucrative teams in the WNBA and one of its most financially valuable. Even if the Fever stink on ice, they'll pack Gainbridge Fieldhouse regularly because of Clark's pull. The Clark merchandise flows freely. Her jerseys fill opposing arenas as traveling Clark fans come to cheer for the Fever on the road. The financial magnitude of Clark for any franchise is generational; she's a Michael Jordan/LeBron James-level must-see event. The Fever would not trade that away. She is the team. Right or wrong, no player, coach or personnel executive is as important or has more sway in Indiana than Clark. She will dictate the terms of the franchise as long as she's there. The only way she ever leaves Indiana is if she walks as a free agent like James did with the Cleveland Cavaliers (technically possible if she doesn't sign another deal, if not likely), her popularity dwindles to the point where she's no longer an economic/attentional force and becomes tradable (c'mon), rampant injuries tank her career to the point where her on-court impact lessens substantially, the Monstars zap her power away with one of those magic basketballs or team ownership decides they're tired of having the league's most popular player and say goodbye . Do any of those scenarios sound reasonable to you? Outside of the injury concern, which can happen with any professional athlete, they shouldn't sound even vaguely plausible. Sure, sports organizations do stupid stuff all the time, like when the Mavs sent Dončić to the Lakers out of nowhere. However, Clark is not Dončić. Clark is Clark. She is her own media and financial ecosystem. The team that drafted her quite literally won the lottery; Clark's future in Indiana should always come down to her. She holds all the power, right or wrong. The deck is beyond stacked in her favor. That's the power a superstar of her magnitude can have in the WNBA. Sure, things can hypothetically change over time, but Clark is a singular persona in WNBA history. Her best odds sit with her playing out her career in Indy, just like Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi did. A statue of her drilling a logo 3-pointer should stand outside of Gainbridge Fieldhouse one day, barring a genuine disaster. The conspiracies will never rest because we live in a post-truth society. We have no idea where Whitlock got his intel, or if he's just trolling with a Bayless-mocking "update." It's the internet; anything is possible at all times. However, until the fabric of our sports reality breaks entirely and/or the Fever organization is ready to open the fiery portal to generational fan backlash Hell with the worst trade in WNBA history, Clark isn't getting sent elsewhere. Clark seems happy in Indy; the Fever seem happy with her... how could they not? She's the sun, moon and stars, all pulled into their backyard for their enjoyment. Teams don't just trade a league's most popular player out of nowhere; there are dollars and cents that dictate so much beyond the discourse. Trading Clark risks financial catastrophe.Sure, Clark may play elsewhere in her career one day for all we know. Nothing is impossible. However, that decision will most likely come down to her throughout her career. She has all the power... outside of requesting a trade right now (not that she'd want to, but for the sake of the hypothetical). There is no world where the Fever would trade her; they'd need to get a Caitlin Clark back. Another one doesn't exist. There is no seriousness to this concept. So, if you hear the Fever might trade Clark, don't sweat it. Such ideas only exist in the aether, where being tethered to reality isn't a requirement. There are no legitimate reports out there of any such trade. It's all just silly Twitter talk. This article originally appeared on For The Win: The silly Caitlin Clark-Sparks trade rumors, explained (as best we can)

BYU heptathlete Zoey Bonds competes in the hurdles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship on May 14, 2026. | Abby Shelton=, BYU Photo Tiffany Lott-Hogan, the former Olympian, member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, and current assistant coach on the BYU track and field team might want to consider telling heptathlete Zoey Bonds that she isn’t going to flourish at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships next week in Eugene, Oregon. Why?Because any time throughout her career that Bonds, a redshirt junior from Las Vegas, has been questioned, she confounds her doubters.“Zoey is one of those athletes that if you tell her she can’t do something, she’s going to prove you wrong,” said Lott-Hogan, the three-time NCAA champion hired in 2023 to oversee BYU’s multi-events and jumps athletes. “So that’s a fun thing about her.”Case in point: At an indoor meet last December, Bonds asked Lott-Hogan to predict what her time would be in the 60-meter hurdles, and the coach said it would be “not overall slow, but slow for her.”“Part of my (thought process) is just ‘fake it until you make it.’ Be confident until you are confident. … You can’t be timid about anything in life.”BYU heptathlete Zoey BondsNaturally, Bonds went out and broke her personal record by a substantial margin and posted the third-best time in the indoor 60-meter hurdles (8.20) in BYU history.Later, after she was told that she was more of an outdoor combined-event athlete than an indoor star, she was runner-up at the 2026 Big 12 championships in the indoor pentathlon (five events) and placed 10th at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships. In an interview Tuesday with the Deseret News, Bonds said that dogged determination to surpass expectations was instilled in her by her parents when she was a youngster and trying to follow in the footsteps of three older sisters who were outstanding athletes: Tiana, Talie and Quincy Bonds. Tiana and Talie competed in track and field for Arizona, while Quincy played soccer for the Wildcats.“Part of my (thought process) is just ‘fake it until you make it,’” she said. “Be confident until you are confident. … You can’t be timid about anything in life.”Bonds’ mother, Natalie, briefly ran track at BYU, then turned her attention to producing track athletes and volleyball players. The irony is that Tiana and Talie went to college as heptathletes, then specialized in one event. Zoey went to BYU as primary a hurdler, then became the school’s best pentathlete and heptathlete in several years.“I ended up being the only one who stuck with multi-events,” she said. “Maybe I’m the crazy one.”Someone must have told her she couldn’t do it.“Our parents have never let us settle in sports. They always would push us and would never let us take a backseat,” Zoey said. “We were always working extra hard after practices or before practices.”That included some workouts with her mother in the middle of the school day when she was at Centennial High in Vegas, while everyone else was in their air-conditioned classrooms. “Just watching my sisters accomplish the things that they did inspired me,” Zoey said. “It is kind of funny. I would say, ‘If they have the genetics to do it, then I do, too. I’m kinda proving that to be true.”‘She’s a fighter’: Why BYU’s Bonds has a chance at nationalsBonds is one of more than a dozen BYU athletes who will compete at Hayward Field on the Oregon campus in the competition that runs from next Wednesday to June 13, having qualified at the Big 12 meet as one of the top 24 athletes in the country in the heptathlon.Heptathlon events are 100-meter hurdles (Bonds’ favorite and specialty), high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run (Bonds’ least favorite event). BYU heptathlete Zoey Bonds competes in the long jump at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship May 14, 2026. | Abby Shelton, BYU Photo While stars such as distance runners Jane Hedengren, Carter Cutting and Taylor Lovell (steeplechase) are among the favorites in their respective events — freshman Hedengren will go for the double in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters — Bonds has her eye on earning All-America status in the heptathlon. The top eight finishers are First Team All-Americans, the next eight are Second Team All-Americans, and everybody else gets honorable mention accolades.Bonds went to Arkansas for the NCAA West Prelims last week hoping to qualify in the 100-meter hurdles in Eugene, but just missed after making it to the quarterfinals in that event.“I would love to be a First Team All-American. I was able to be second team in indoor, so that is a goal of mine, to move up,” she said. “Honestly I just want to do the best I can on that day. With the heptathlon, there are so many variables. My goal is to just do the best I can and hopefully have some PRs.”Bonds scored 5,735 points at the Big 12 meet, a personal best. Lott-Hogan said surpassing 5,800 points is a reasonable goal for her prized pupil at nationals.“Honestly I just want to do the best I can on that day. With the heptathlon, there are so many variables. My goal is to just do the best I can and hopefully have some PRs.”BYU heptathlete Zoey Bonds on her goals at the NCAA outdoor championships“It is not that she has to get PRs or personal bests, personal records in anything. It’s just being near the upper 1% of all of her marks, and she should put together a very strong meet,” Lott-Hogan said. “The NCAA (field of competitors) right now is just incredible in the combined events, so she has tough, tough competition to go against. But she’s a fighter.”BYU’s Ben Barton, who Lott-Hogan also coaches, is among the favorites in the men’s multi-event competition, the decathlon, in Eugene.“It is hard to say he can win it, because you never know what’s going to happen at nationals, but he has a very good chance of being top three,” Lott-Hogan said.Bonds is the Cougars’ first national qualifier in the heptathlon since Hailey Folsom Walker made it in 2022 and placed eighth overall with 5,692 points. She has another year of eligibility remaining in indoor and plans to return to that next December, having gotten her degree in family life last month from BYU.Whether she will make another run at outdoors next spring might depend on whether a proposed NCAA rule that allows athletes five years of competition in five years goes through.A long and difficult journey to nationalsBonds is often asked why she picked BYU when all her sisters went to Arizona. The answer is simple: BYU recruited her only to be a hurdler, and she “adored” then-BYU sprints and hurdles coach Stephani Perkins. But Perkins left BYU and took a job at Southern Illinois a week before Bonds was scheduled to move into her college dorm.“That is part of why I transitioned into the heptathlon (after her freshman season), she said. “I was not with the coach that I got recruited by, and I just felt like I should change it up. It wasn’t working.”Also, Bonds battled an illness that went undiagnosed almost her entire freshman year that left her tired and lifeless. Finally, after some blood tests, it was determined to be mononucleosis. “That was an awful experience,” she said.During her sophomore season, some foot pain she had dealt with since high school became unbearable, a stress fracture never properly healed, and doctors decided she needed surgery. She got a bone fusion, because the bone had split, and a plate and eight screws were inserted into her foot.Through it all, she never thought about quitting, giving up, or throwing in the towel.“I always believed in myself, but I felt like I was not getting the results that I knew I was capable of getting,’ she said. “So I was like, ‘I am sticking it out, and will try to accomplish everything I want to accomplish, even if they don’t seem reasonable.’”Under the direction of Lott-Hogan and sprints coach Kyle Grossarth, Bonds has healed up and improved so much the past year that she’s weighing the idea of turning pro when her college career ends, as one of her sisters did.Lott-Hogan has become Bonds’ biggest role model in the sport.“She was an Olympian, and she is just amazing,” Bonds said. “She is so calm and collected, which you have to have as a multi(-event) athlete. It is so awesome to be working with someone that has been through what I’ve been through. So, yeah, I definitely look up to her.” The Utah Sports Hall of Fame inducted (left to right) Dave Kragthorpe (football), Tiffany Lott Hogan (track and field), Mark Eaton (basketball), Tom Chambers (basketball) and Lance Robinson (rodeo) in ceremonies staged Tuesday night. | Tom Smart, Deseret News Lott-Hogan said Bonds thrives because she has a great way of overcoming setbacks and subpar performances and moves on to the next event with a minimal amount of moping. Bonds said her mom taught her long ago to rein in her emotions.“The mental aspect is something I learned a long time ago when I did my first heptathlon in high school,” she said. “My mom said it is two long days and you can’t be on a roller coaster of emotions. I just learned to stay steady, and a rule we implemented was that I have five minutes to be sad after an event doesn’t go well, but after that five minutes I have to be happy again, and start preparing for the next one.”Marrying an understanding athleteBonds married former BYU football player Kyle Vassau in December 2024, and the one-time linebacker has become her biggest supporter. The Carlsbad, California, native can often be seen at her meets, home or away, cheering on Bonds in all her events — including the meet-ending 800 meters, which she hates.“Being a former athlete, he gets it,” she said. “He knows when I’m exhausted, or that I have to eat a certain way, which is super nice. I don’t have to explain it all to him. … He travels to all my meets and is my biggest cheerleader. He is kind of living vicariously now through me because football didn’t quite work out for him.”Vassau has one more semester left to graduate and has already started his own insurance agency, which is doing well. He also knows not to mess with Bonds’ pre-meet superstitions and rituals, including her insistence on easting at a Vietnamese restaurant the night before meets.“I always get pho (a soup dish),” she said. “That is something that is non-negotiable, for sure.”Another have-to is getting her nails and makeup done before races.“Because you gotta feel good and look good to run good,” she said.Besides, everyone knows you don’t tell Zoey Bonds there is something she can’t do. HOUSTON (AP) — Isaac Paredes homered for the third straight game, driving in four runs to propel the Houston Astros to a 5-1 victory over the Athletics on Friday night.Jeremy Peña singled off Jack Perkins (2-3) to begin the first inning, extending his hitting streak to six games before Yordan Alvarez followed with a walk. Paredes homered for the ninth time for a 3-0 lead.Alvarez, who chased down first-inning fly balls from Shea Langeliers and Nick Kurtz in left field in his first start out there since May 5, singled to start the third before scoring on a triple by Christian Walker. Paredes followed with a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 advantage.Peter Lambert (5-4) was cruising until Brent Rooker hit his ninth homer in the sixth. The right-hander then walked Tyler Soderstrom in front of a double by Henry Bolte to put runners on second and third with one out. Enyel De Los Santos came in and struck out Zach Gelof before retiring Jeff McNeil on a liner to Jose Altuve at second to limit the damage. The Athletics loaded the bases with one out in the second, but Lambert struck out McNeil and Darell Hernaiz to keep it 3-0. Corey Seager homers in his return and Higashioka also goes deep as Rangers win 3-2 over Guardians
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Corey Seager hit a go-ahead homer to end a career-worst 0-for-29 slump in his first game for Texas in more than three weeks and Kyle Higashioka also went deep as the Rangers beat the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 on Friday night. Seager had missed 19 games since May 13 while on the injured list because of lower back inflammation. His two-run homer in the sixth inning made it 3-2 right after a double by Wyatt Langford, who missed 39 games since April 21 because of a right forearm strain before he was also activated from the IL before the game. Guardians rookie starter Parker Messick (6-2) retired 15 of the first 16 batters he faced, including the first 11, before Higashioka homered leading off the sixth. Messick then gave up the extra-base hits to Langford and Seager, and another hit to Josh Jung before a two-out walk ended his night.Rangers starter Kumar Rocker struck out five while allowing two runs over five innings before Peyton Gray (2-0) worked 1 2/3 innings. Jacob Latz, their third reliever, worked two innings for his ninth save.Travis Bazzana had his first career leadoff homer and finished with three hits for the Guardians. He was stranded at third after a leadoff triple in the fifth.Austin Hedges, a backup catcher for the Rangers’ World Series championship team in 2023, put the Guardians up 2-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. Seager's 0-for-29 slide included 11 strikeouts. The two-time World Series MVP, still hitting .181 in his 43 games, had been hitless in his previous seven games, also a career worst, since an RBI single on May 6 at Yankee Stadium after he hit a home run earlier in that game.Up nextTanner Bibbe (0-7, 4.57 ERA) pitches for the Guardians in the middle game of the series Saturday. Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter (3-4, 4.34) tries to win his third start in a row. ___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

31-32 – A welcomed return as Rangers rally past Guardians 3-2
Jun 5, 2026; Arlington, Texas, USA; Texas Rangers Shortstop Corey Seager (5) hits a 2-run home run during the sixth inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Globe Life Field. Mandatory Credit: Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images | Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images The Texas Rangers scored three runs while the Cleveland Guardians scored two runs. The Rangers had us in the first half, not gonna lie.In what was shaping up to be a familiar game that you’ve seen a dozen times at The Shed this year, the Rangers found the switch to flip and came through with a crooked number inning that just happened to be the exact digit that was as many as they needed to find the win column tonight in the series opener against Cleveland. After a day off yesterday, Texas returned home and greeted us like an old friend as the Guardians took a 1-0 lead three pitches into the game when former No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana took former two-time first round pick and 2022 No. 3 overall selection Kumar Rocker deep. With the first inning blues playing once more, Texas was in a hole before they’d even stepped up to the plate. That started to seem like the least of their problems as they came to bat in the fourth inning without a hit. By that point, it was 2-0 Guardians when World Series-winning legend Austin Hedges singled in Steven Kwan with two outs in the top of the fourth. Cleveland reached to lead off an inning in four of the first five frames but Rocker prevented the big inning throughout his start. One of the key moments in the game came with the Guardians already up 2-0 when Bazzana tripled to lead off the fifth. Rocker buckled down and prevented Bazzana from scoring to keep it close.Overall Rocker went five innings on 94 pitches where he allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.Meanwhile, Cleveland starter Parker Messick would make it to two outs in the bottom of the fourth before Josh Jung singled for Texas’ first hit of the night. The Rangers would be held off the board until a few innings later when catcher Kyle Higashioka smacked a solo home run to give Texas some hope as the Cleveland lead was halved. With the looming threat of a shutout off the table, returning lineup reinforcement Wyatt Langford doubled to put the tying run in scoring position. Also returning was Corey Seager and he followed Langford not just with an RBI hit to tie the game but with a two-run dong that suddenly gave the Rangers a lead as the game exited the middle innings.Despite the fact that the Rangers snoozed through the first half of the game, they held the lead and turned things over to their bullpen. A combination of Peyton Gray, Jalen Beeks, and Jacob Latz tossed the final four innings with Latz collecting a six-out save that proved a bit laborious. The trio of relievers struck out six and held Cleveland to just a ninth inning Hedges single that had us sweating a little before Latz finished off the comeback victory on his 35th pitch of the night.Player of the Game: Seager had been chained to the longest, most dreadful slump of his big league career before hitting the IL with back issues. After missing over half of May, Seager returned and immediately made an impact with his go-ahead and eventual game-winning two-run home run that put Texas up by the eventual 3-2 final score.Welcome back, Corey! Up Next: The Rangers and Guardians hit the national airwaves with RHP Jack Leiter expected to pitch for Texas opposite RHP Tanner Bibee for Cleveland. The Saturday evening first pitch from The Shed is scheduled for 6:35 pm CDT and you can watch the game on FOX.

Jurgen Klopp camp bite back at Real Madrid claims – “It’s annoying”
Jurgen Klopp camp bite back at Real Madrid claims – “It’s annoying”Real Madrid are still yet to officially appoint their next manager, but the matter should be resolved as early as next week. If Florentino Perez retains the presidency, he would finalise the appointment of Jose Mourinho, whereas election rival Enrique Riquelme has promised to land Jurgen Klopp is he wins this weekend’s vote.Riquelme has made several promises to the Real Madrid members in the last few days. He claimed that an agreement has already been reached for Erling Haaland to join, which would become active if he becomes president, while he also ensured that his Manchester City teammate Rodri Hernandez would also be sought. In regards to Klopp, Real Madrid have regularly been linked with him ever since Xabi Alonso’s exit in January, but Riquelme believes he is the one to convince the former Liverpool manager. However, it certainly won’t be easy, as has now been made clear by his camp.As per Florian Plettenburg (via Sport), Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke has reacted to Riquelme’s comments, in which he made it very clear that a return to the dugout is not on the agenda at this stage.“It’s annoying! Jurgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a coach at a club.”Second time this week that Riquelme has been shot downImage via AFP7 It’s not the first time this week that Riquelme’s promises have been shot down by those they refer to. Hours after he made the claim regarding Haaland, the Norwegian striker’s representatives laughed off the claims with a rebuttal, and now the same has happened with Klopp’s agent. These responses will have done Riquelme no good in the eyes of the Real Madrid members, who are gearing up to go to the polls on Sunday for the first presidential election in 20 years.

'You can do it': With 13-month-old son in tow, Alison Lee tied for U.S. Women's Open lead
LOS ANGELES – The most nervous Alison Lee felt Friday afternoon at Riviera Country Club was when she first caught a glimpse of her name atop the U.S. Women’s Open leaderboard.Luckily for the 31-year-old Lee, she’s got the perfect distraction in her 13-month-old son, Levi.“I think about him all the time,” said Lee, who is taking advantage of her hometown major championship, just her seventh start postpartum, by having her parents watch her firstborn. “I think about what he's doing. I guess it's like toxic mom, like, OK, is he sleeping right? Are my parents feeding him when I tell them to? It's small things like that I think I micromanage a little bit too much.”At last month’s Chevron Championship, Lee’s first major appearance since giving birth on April 25, 2024, Lee’s partner, Trey Kidd, brought Levi out on the 14th hole, only for Levi to shout, “Ball!” Lee was glad it was in the middle of her backswing, not an opponent’s. On Friday, Trey waited until Lee hit her approach on the par-4 18th. Levi then yelled his favorite word again before his mom got up and down for par and a second-round, 3-under 68 that moved Lee to 4 under, where she’ll enter Saturday tied with Ruoning Yin for the lead.Six players, including major winners Jennifer Kupcho, In Gee Chun, Hinako Shibuno and Sei Young Kim, are tied for third, one shot back, while world No. 1 Nelly Korda is one of four players two off the lead.Lee carried Levi up Riviera’s iconic staircase and into scoring, then held him briefly during her post-round interview before handing off the talkative toddler, mid answer, to Trey. Lee is still adjusting to being a mom on tour, but she’s got quite the rolodex to lean on, including fellow moms Michelle Wie West, Stacy Lewis, Pat Hurst and Juli Inkster, who won two U.S. Women’s Opens as a mother, in 1999 and 2002, and remains the last to do so.On days where Lee has felt like she’s “drowning,” Lee replays Inkster telling her, confidently, “You can do it.”Lee rarely logs round at home in Las Vegas, instead opting for max efficiency with her practice time. Lee’s days usually begin at 6 a.m., while Levi is still sleeping. She trains for two hours, then comes home to feed and care for Levi while Trey works remotely. During naptime, Lee heads to the course to practice, hopefully until mid-afternoon, before returning to full-time mom duties the rest of the evening.“When I come home too, it's like so much stuff – laundry, cleaning bottles, cleaning the house,” Lee said. “I mean, I clean the house a million times, and it still looks like a tornado went through. I think I just have to accept my house is a mess, and I can't ever have people over. Yeah, then I just do the same thing over and over again. There are days where, if he doesn't sleep great, it is really difficult. I'm not going to lie, there are days where I'll just start crying because I'm so tired, like I can't do this. I feel like over time I've found a good routine for myself.”Lee was so overexerted when she made her season debut at last month’s JM Eagle LA Championship that her ball speed had dipped to 135 mph. She managed to tie for 13th, which she followed with finishes of MC, T-3, T-33. When she scouted Riv in April, it surprisingly marked the UCLA product’s sixth or so time seeing the George Thomas design; the shortest club she had into the green was an 8-iron.“I remember thinking, oh, my God, this is so hard,” Lee said.Despite missing half her fairways and greens on Thursday, Lee grinded to shoot under par. She’s proud of the fight she’s shown so far, especially the gritty par save Friday at the par-4 second, where she fanned her drive behind a tree, was forced to punch out to 116 yards, then ended up holing a 6-footer. She’s dropped only three shots through two days despite being the only player in the top 20 who is losing strokes off the tee.In 45 major starts, Lee has never led after any round and owns just two top-10s. She’s not won on the LPGA, either, despite turning pro in 2015 as a decorated amateur who was a first-team AJGA All-American for six straight years as a junior player before holding the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for 16 weeks while in college.“I feel like I've definitely underachieved what I could have done out here on tour,” said Lee, who’d always thought she’d stop competing once she started having kids. But after enjoying one of her best seasons and qualifying for a second Solheim Cup in 2024 – she played that event pregnant and with terrible morning sickness – Lee went on maternity leave more motivated than ever.“I told myself, OK, I'm going to have Levi, I'm just going to do everything I can, just tell myself absolutely no regrets looking back and just try really hard for this next probably year to maybe two years, to just play the best golf I can,” Lee said, “because realistically, I feel like I've thought about my future a lot, and moving forward, I do want more kids. I want a bigger family. I think, if I were to have another baby, I think it would be 10 times more difficult to try and come back and play.”Lee has accepted her journey to date, from the struggles where she didn’t know where the ball was going to the great golf that still only produced close calls.“I was so close so many times,” Lee said. “I feel like it's literally sometimes one shot. You just need to be lucky here and there. … I would say in a full year, unless you're Nelly [Korda] or Scottie [Scheffler], there's really only a handful of events where you truly, you know, you get the good wave, you have a good first round, you're putting really well, you can see the matrix on putting green where you know it's going to go in.”Like last summer in Arkansas, when Lee, not even five months removed from having Levi, was tied for third after 18 holes of the weather-delayed event, then took the lead during the second round on Sunday only for the tournament to be scrapped because of inclement weather.“I was devastated,” Lee said. “I was like this could have been my week, you know.”Now, nine months later, Lee has another chance at what would be a long-awaited breakthrough, though this time in a major and at a course not far from where she was born in Los Angeles. If she needs a reminder whether she can do it or not, Lee need only make one call, to Inkster.

What Could the Vikings Get for J.J. McCarthy?
Brad RempelThe Minnesota Vikings are likely to install Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for 2026. If and when that happens, Kyler Murray goes to the bench. It’s unlikely that he operates as the backup with veteran Carson Wentz in the building, and there’s no reason for him to rot as a third-string option.New general manager Nolan Teasley can distance himself from Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s pick of McCarthy by simply moving him. Unfortunately, the Vikings won’t recoup the 10th overall pick they invested in McCarthy, but that doesn’t mean he is without value.Vikings New GM Has a QB Asset to WeighMcCarthy is still young, has room to develop, and can learn elsewhere in a situation that doesn’t have the same backstory as Minnesota comes with. Multiple landing spots make sense, and intriguing players always generate some return.Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy (9) delivered a first-quarter pass against the Houston Texans on Aug 9, 2025, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The rookie starter showed rhythm and confidence in front of the home crowd as Minnesota evaluated its offensive flow during early preseason action, looking to build momentum. Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images. Not long ago, Anthony Richardson was once again rumored to be a trade target for the Minnesota Vikings. A late-round pick was the expected compensation, and something along those lines would make a similar amount of sense to get in exchange for McCarthy. The Vikings should make it known that McCarthy is fully available, and then pit interested suitors against one another. Maybe Jim Harbaugh wants to work with McCarthy again in Los Angeles. The Browns may believe they need yet another quarterback. There’s a chance McCarthy may be more alluring than a blind pick for Brennan Sorsby in a supplemental draft, too.Sep 14, 2025; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn ImagesAt any rate, going into the season with McCarthy on the roster after losing the quarterback battle doesn’t seem wise. Trying to cut bait and get value back before another year ticks off his candidate does sound like sound logic. Though the Vikings no longer need McCarthy, that doesn’t mean he’s without value elsewhere.

Baker Mayfield sends clear message regarding his future with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker Mayfield sends clear message regarding his future with Tampa Bay Buccaneers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Star quarterback Baker Mayfield has just one year remaining on his current contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, he hopes to achieve some long-term security with the franchise. Baker Mayfield expresses desire to remain in Tamp Bay long-term In his first public comments of the offseason, Mayfield made it clear that he would like to continue his career in Tampa Bay beyond 2026. But, he has a set a training camp deadline for offseason negotiations, meaning that if an extension is going to get done, it's going to have to get done before late July. If not deal gets done though, Mayfield won't be holding out or anything of that nature. "Obviously, yes, I would love to have a long-term deal done, but they know my deadline: As soon as training camp starts, we're not doing any contract stuff. It's all ball. It's not up to me when that gets done by. So hopefully before that. If not -- still going to have a good year," Mayfield said. "We'd love to be here long-term. And as of right now, that's not exactly the case, but I'm under contract for 2026," Mayfield said. "And the guys in that locker and the staff know that I'm still going to be me. I'm still going to do everything I can to help this team win a Super Bowl. And to me, that's the priority. Everything else will take care of itself."This story will be updated. Guardians score vs. Rangers. Texas rallies to beat Parker Messick, Cleveland
Corey Seager hit a go-ahead two-run home run in his return from the injured list, leading the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night, June 5, in Arlington, Texas.Kyle Higashioka also homered and Josh Jung had two hits for the Rangers, who have won six of their last seven games.Travis Bazzana was 3-for-4 with a triple and home run and Steven Kwan had two hits and a run for the Guardians, who have dropped four of their last six games.Peyton Gray (2-0) tossed 1⅔ innings of scoreless relief. Jacob Latz earned his ninth save by working scoreless eighth and ninth innings. In the sixth, Texas cut the Guardians' lead to 2-1 on Higashioka's 428-foot shot. With one out, Wyatt Langford doubled into the left field corner and scored on Seager's opposite-field homer for a 3-2 lead.Jung followed with a single and Brandon Nimmo flied out to right before Cleveland starter Parker Messick walked Ezequiel Duran to end his outing. Guardians reliever Matt Festa got Joc Pederson to roll out to first to end the inning.Cleveland jumped out to a quick lead when Bazzana led off the game with his fourth home run of the season.Rhys Hoskins walked to open the second, and after Daniel Schneemann lined out, Kwan singled to right. After Austin Hedges struck out looking, Kwan stole second and Cleveland had two runners in scoring position with two outs. Karl-Anthony Towns-led Knicks outlast Victor Wembanyama, Spurs with gutsy win in Game 2 of NBA Finals
The Knicks proved that Wednesday's 105-95 Game 1 win at the San Antonio Spurs was no fluke, doubling down in Friday's 105-104 Game 2 victory and taking a commanding 2-0 lead as the NBA Finals heads to New York.TakeawaysKarl-Anthony Towns was the best player on the floor, continuing his dominance of Victor Wembanyama. Whether New York pushed ahead against San Antonio or ended the Spurs' momentum -- the Knicks faced a largest deficit of 12 points, 37-25, after Stephon Castle's triple at the second quarter's 11:32 mark -- Towns was a common denominator on both ends. Towns scored 17 of his 21points in the first half, including a corner trey with 10 seconds before halftime to give New York a 56-52 lead at the break. He was the X factor, bringing physicality and energy from the jump while Wembanyama struggled to get going until the second half.Alongside Towns, Mikal Bridges stepped up in a development that especially mattered while Towns hit foul trouble and Jalen Brunson struggled shooting. Bridges blossomed after nine points two days ago, scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and a 4-for-6 clip from deep. Among other moments, Bridges' jumper at the third quarter's 1:15 mark pushed the Knicks ahead 82-73 and assisted an alley-oop dunk to Mitchell Robinson on the ensuing New York possession to create an 8-1 run into the 35-second point. Wembanyama ended the spurt on a field goal with 19 seconds left to keep the Knicks' lead at single digits, 84-75, entering the fourth quarter but not before New York's momentum was apparent. As mentioned, Brunson was not himself from the field, posting a 7-of-25 mark. He found his spots for timely buckets, but the Spurs were physical with him early and kept the Knicks' leader out of sorts. For Brunson to have that type of game and New York still dominate San Antonio on the road speaks volumes about where the team is at entering Games 3 and 4. Brunson's five points in the final two minutes of the game, including the decisive free throw on a 1-of-2 trip to the line, should also not be discounted.Landry Shamet's return to the Knicks for the 2025-26 season is perhaps the move of the past offseason. Shamet, as he has been in spots throughout his second year with the franchise, was nails for New York off the bench. Shamet scored 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting in 30 minutes, including two triples to start the fourth quarter and maintain the Knicks' 12- and eight-point leads, 87-75 and 90-82.Who's the MVP?Towns, whose 21-point, 13-rebound on 8-of-12 shooting and a 3-for-5 clip from deep while delivering on both ends went far in 33 minutes.HighlightsJalen Brunson gets the Knicks' first points ✅️ pic.twitter.com/qhlDMDqPAa— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026Jalen Brunson steps into a three 🎯 pic.twitter.com/4jghlcgLlM— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026KAT gets to the rim 🔥 pic.twitter.com/3AHDD6ZfoX— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026KAT THROWS IT DOWN! pic.twitter.com/FGR7y78kjm— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026WHAT A PASS FROM KAT! pic.twitter.com/V0v1BRe2Zu— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026OG BLOCK ➡️ MIKAL THREE pic.twitter.com/vuHTh46iFs— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026GREAT BALL MOVEMENT BY THE KNICKS! pic.twitter.com/ecztQUca98— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026KAT TRIPLE TO CLOSE OUT THE FIRST HALF! pic.twitter.com/7cz2EAufCf— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026JALEN BRUNSON PULL-UP TRIPLE pic.twitter.com/LP4FzyqcpY— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026JALEN BRUNSON PULL-UP TRIPLE pic.twitter.com/LP4FzyqcpY— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026ALLEY-OOP TO ROBINSON! pic.twitter.com/FQBUXKgnzq— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026LANDRY SHAMET. pic.twitter.com/r6t63rUwT9— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026DEUCE PARA TRES!!!!!!!! pic.twitter.com/LuAdmtHGtv— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026OG WITH THE SLAM ON WEMBY! pic.twitter.com/p2xRWio5SQ— SNY Knicks (@sny_knicks) June 6, 2026What's nextThe Knicks return to MSG for Monday's 8:30 p.m. Game 3. Reds drop to 2-11 in division play with ugly loss to Cardinals
ST. LOUIS – The Cincinnati Reds started the first day of their road trip without a pitching coach. They started the second inning without their manager.A 10-3 loss to the Cardinals in the opener of their weekend series in St. Louis, dropped the Reds to 2-11 in division play this season – before they’ve played a game against first-place Milwaukee. And they started to look like a team that couldn’t get out of its own way by the time they reached the sixth inning of a six-game road trip that will take them to San Diego next – and to the brink of getting buried in the division by midseason if the bats and bullpen keep looking like this. The team that finished April in first place and in command of the National League Central has fallen like a rock since, with slumping lineup and one of the worst-performing, beat-up bullpens in the majors leading the race to the bottom.Errors by rookie shortstop Edwin Arroyo and rookie first baseman Sal Stewart in the bottom of the first inning cost the Reds two unearned runs and most of a 3-0 lead – and cost the manager for the rest of the game when Terry Francona was ejected after an unsuccessful replay challenge.Stewart, who was ruled to have pulled his foot off the bag on what would have been an inning-ending groundout, immediately signaled to challenge the play and started jogging off the field. When a lengthy review resulted in a “call stands” ruling, Francona emerged from the dugout in what appeared to be support of Stewart. The Cards tied it on Alec Burleson’s leadoff homer in the third off Brady Singer, who lasted just one leadoff walk into the fifth inning.Another unearned run facilitated by Brock Burke’s errant pickoff throw in the fifth put the Cardinals in front. And then rookie Zach Maxwell and almost-rookie Luis Mey combined to surrender four hits, four walks and a hit batter in the Cardinals’ six-run sixth – Mey loading the bases with a two-out walk, then hitting a batter, giving up a run-scoring single off Eugenio Suárez’s glove at third, then issuing back-to-back run-scoring walks. Not that sixth was especially decisive given the non-pitchers’ fielding and performance at the plate after the first.Consider that the Reds went 2-for-3 with men in scoring position in their three-run first. They didn’t put a man in scoring position again until the seventh. Then left him there. And it’s not like they’re exactly catching a juggernaut on a hot streak as they face their division rivals this weekend. The Cards haven’t won a series in three weeks and had lost 10 of 15 entering the weekend. But the Reds might as well have asked them to hold their beer – losing their sixth in eight games and 20th since the end of April. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Reds drop to 2-11 in division play with ugly loss to Cardinals

Duda Sampaio honoured for 50 Brazil caps: “It still hasn’t sunk in”
Duda Sampaio honoured for 50 Brazil caps: “It still hasn’t sunk in”A special moment took over the press room at Neo Química Arena on Friday night (5). After head coach Arthur Elias’ press conference, midfielder Duda Sampaio, who was due to speak next, was surprised with a tribute marking the 50 games she will complete wearing the Brazilian National Team jersey in Saturday’s (6) friendly against the United States. The moment was led by Women’s National Teams coordinator Cris Gambaré, who opened the player’s press conference by highlighting the journey she has built over the past few years and the relationship of trust she has developed with Arthur Elias.“Duda, thank you for your story. Thank you, truly, for everything you are doing for our Brazilian National Team,” said Gambaré.Then, Arthur Elias presented the player with a commemorative jersey bearing the number 50, symbolizing the milestone she will reach against the Americans. Visibly emotional, Duda spoke about what the moment meant to her.“Without a doubt, I’m very happy with this moment. I don’t think I fully realize yet how big it is to reach 50 games for the Brazilian National Team. I remember my first call-ups, always with that anxiety. And being able to experience this today, even after so much time representing the National Team, still with that same intention of being here to improve, is very special,” she celebrated.TrustThe defensive midfielder also made a point of highlighting the importance of the relationship built with Arthur Elias throughout her career.“I have a lot of affection for the entire coaching staff, but especially for Arthur, because of all the history we built working together at Corinthians. Without a doubt, that gives me even more confidence to make the most of my moments on the field,” she said.Duda’s story with football began far from the big stadiums. A native of Jequeri, a small town in the countryside of Minas Gerais, she grew up playing on a dirt field next to her house. The place, which hosted many matches and games alongside her brother, took on an even more special meaning years later. With her career established, the athlete renovated the field where she took her first steps in the sport, turning it into a grass pitch surrounded by fencing as a way of giving back to the place that marked her childhood.Debut and achievementsAt 25, Duda has had spells at América-MG, Cruzeiro and Internacional, in addition to experiencing one of the most successful periods of her career at Corinthians, the club she has represented since 2023. For the senior national team, she made her debut in 2022 in a 4-0 rout of Argentina.Since then, she has played in the 2023 World Cup, won a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and became a two-time Copa América champion. So far, she has made 49 appearances, with 36 wins, four draws and nine losses wearing Brazil’s yellow jersey.Even though she is considered one of the most consistent players on the Brazilian National Team in the Arthur Elias era and has attracted interest from overseas clubs, Duda says she is in no hurry to leave Brazilian football.“Speaking for myself, to this day no offer has arrived that has truly made me want to leave. My main goal is to keep helping Corinthians and continue being called up to the National Team. Being in an environment that helps me grow and continuing to wear the National Team shirt are the most important things for me,” she explained.Important matchTo make the 50-game milestone even more special, Duda hopes to crown the occasion with a great performance against the United States. The last meeting between the teams ended in a historic 2-1 comeback win for Brazil on American soil. The midfielder says the team arrives better prepared for the new challenge.“Our work has always been very focused on the style of play, the game plan and the strategies for each match. That remains the same. But we’ve managed to improve a lot in every phase of the game. I’m sure we are much better prepared now,” she said.“Facing the United States is always a great opportunity. It’s a match that tests us physically, mentally and technically. Thinking about the World Cup, which is getting closer and closer, these opportunities are essential. I’m sure we are more prepared today than we were in that previous meeting,” she concluded. The first friendly for Brazil’s senior women’s national team against the United States will take place on Saturday (6) at 6:30 p.m. at Neo Química Arena. From São Paulo, the squad will travel to Fortaleza for the second match on Tuesday (9) at 9:30 p.m.This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Mitchell Robinson compares himself to Allen Iverson after Donald Trump confirms Game 3 attendance
Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesMitchell Robinson has added a playful twist to Donald Trump’s expected appearance at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The New York Knicks are already heading into one of their biggest home games in decades. Trump’s planned attendance only adds more spotlight to a night that was never going to feel normal.Robinson saw the joke being made online and leaned into it, turning a viral Allen Iverson comparison into extra fuel before the series reaches New York.Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesMitchell Robinson reacts to Allen Iverson joke before Donald Trump attends New York Knicks gameLegion Hoops shared Mitchell Robinson’s response after a TikTok claimed he would play like a young Allen Iverson against Michael Jordan with Donald Trump attending Game 3 at Madison Square Garden.“You ain’t lying, brother,” Robinson wrote. The reference was to Iverson’s iconic 1997 crossover on Jordan, one of the most famous confidence moments in NBA history. The joke suggested Robinson would suddenly move with that same fearlessness because Trump would be in the building.Robinson is obviously not a guard like Iverson, which made the comparison funnier. His game is built on size, rim protection, rebounding, and finishing, not breaking defenders down from the top of the floor.Donald Trump Game 3 spotlight gives Mitchell Robinson extra New York Knicks motivationTrump is expected to attend Game 3 between the Knicks and San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden after being invited by James Dolan. The visit is set to bring major security, massive attention, and an even louder atmosphere. For Robinson, that kind of stage can only sharpen the mood. He has already been playing through a hand injury during the Finals, giving New York important backup-center minutes behind Karl-Anthony Towns. The motivation is simple. Game 3 is the Knicks’ first home Finals game in 27 years, and every role player knows one big play could become part of Garden history.Robinson may not be crossing anyone over like Iverson, but if he blocks a shot, grabs a huge rebound, or finishes through contact in front of Trump, the joke will have done its job.Read more:Brian Windhorst’s key detail about Mitchell Robinson’s hand injury shows the Knicks star’s toughnessMitchell Robinson’s broken pinky can be traced back to this shocking in-game momentNew York Knicks may move star who shone in 2025 playoffs, insider claims

Ogbene earns Republic of Ireland draw against Canada
World Cup co-hosts Canada were held to a 1-1 draw by the Republic of Ireland in Montreal after Chiedozie Ogbene equalized from a rebound.Ogbene reacted quickest to slot home after Troy Parrott's penalty was saved, cancelling out Canada's first-half opener.Canada went ahead midway through the first half when a corner was flicked on by Parrott and found the Irish net via the unfortunate Jake O'Brien.O'Brien made amends with a good block to deny Hull's Liam Millar as the hosts threatened to stretch their lead before the interval.Ireland were given a route back into the match just before the hour when Jamie McGrath was caught by a high foot in the box by Cyle Larin.Parrott's penalty was well saved by Maxime Crepeau, but Ipswich winger Ogbene won the race to sweep the loose ball into the net.Larin went close to restoring Canada's lead, while Crepeau produced another fine save to deny Tottenham's Mason Melia a goal on his second cap.

Knicks hold off Spurs 105-104 for 2-0 NBA Finals lead
New York's Jalen Brunson attempts a free throw in the fourth quarter of the Knicks' win over San Antonio in game two of the NBA Finals (Gregory Shamus)Jalen Brunson drilled the go-ahead free throw as the New York Knicks held off a furious San Antonio rally to beat the Spurs 105-104 on Friday and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals.San Antonio star Victor Wembanyama missed a potential game-winner with two seconds remaining to leave the Spurs in need of an unprecedented comeback when the best-of-seven series shifts to New York for games three and four.No team has lifted the trophy after dropping the first two games of the Finals at home.Michael Jordan's 1993 Chicago Bulls and the 1995 Houston Rockets are the only other teams to win the first two games of the championship series on the road, and both went on to win titles. The Knicks won their 13th straight game of the playoffs -- the second-longest streak in postseason history -- and will have a chance to close out their first title since 1973 in front of home fans at Madison Square Garden. US President Donald Trump is scheduled to be in attendance on Monday. They had to withstand a scintillating fourth-quarter surge from the Spurs, who erased a 14-point deficit with a 14-0 scoring run.Wembanyama shook off a slow start to score 22 of his 29 points in the second half, his three-point play with 57.3 seconds remaining giving the Spurs their first lead since the second quarter at 104-102.But Brunson tied it and after a Wembanyama turnover with a pass behind Stephon Castle, Brunson was fouled and made the first of two free throws to put the Knicks back in front.San Antonio had one last chance, coming out of a time out with 7.5 seconds left. They got the ball to their superstar but his jump shot didn't fall."A great player got a great shot, and it just didn't go in," said Karl-Anthony Towns, who led the Knicks with 21 points and 13 rebounds and delivered a stellar defensive performance that pushed Wembanyama out of his comfort zone.- Make it difficult -"He's a once in a generation player," Towns said. ‘My Little Brother’ – Fabricio Andrey Details Unbreakable Friendship With Diogo Reis
Long before they became two of the most dynamic athletes on the planet, Fabricio “Hokage” Andrey and reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis shared a much simpler beginning. As kids, they survived the sweltering heat of Manaus’s grappling rooms together, forging a brotherhood anchored in shared sacrifice. Andrey will now look to extend his flawless 3-0 promotional run against British standout Owen Jones at ONE Fight Night 44 on Prime Video. The 10-minute featherweight submission grappling clash goes down on Friday, June 26, in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. View this post on InstagramAhead of his highly anticipated return, the 26-year-old took time to reflect on the childhood friend who shared his wildest martial arts dreams. The pair ascended through the colored belt ranks side-by-side. While they have since taken different paths, with Andrey joining Alliance and Reis forming Agora Jiu-Jitsu, their familial connection remains completely untouched.Despite being only two years older, Andrey naturally stepped into a protective role, looking out for Reis long after their exhausting daily classes wrapped up. “Hokage” recalled:“[He is] my friend. Diogo is my brother, my little brother. I used to take him back to his home after training when he was a child. So we’re very good friends, and we still talk to each other on a regular basis.”View this post on InstagramAs their camaraderie deepened, their time on the mats became a daily exercise in iron sharpening iron. They developed into the ultimate stylistic yin-yang, pushing each other to evolve by solving vastly different puzzles. Andrey forged a relentlessly aggressive style that willingly trades positional safety for a highlight-reel finish. Reis, by contrast, relies on meticulous brilliance to shut down attacks before they ever materialize. He deeply admires that cerebral mindset and constantly uses it to evolve his own game: “The main difference between Diogo and me is that, even though both of us are very good at jiu-jitsu, I’m more on the flow side. I’m just going forward and trying to submit, and I don’t strategize too much. And sometimes I lose fights because of a lack of strategy.“Diogo, on the other hand, is not as much in the flow mood, but he’s always thinking ahead on strategy and making the best decisions, always looking for flaws on the opponent’s side. And I learn a lot from him.”View this post on InstagramThe two friends now compete under different banners, but distance has done nothing to diminish what they built together. Andrey still leans on his friend’s analytical mind and still finds ways to sharpen himself through the person who knows his game better than anyone. He stated:“Every session with him is good because I’m learning a lot from him about jiu-jitsu, especially the competitive [side]. He’s really good at learning the rules and the strategy. And I’m learning strategy and the rules from him.”The Ultimate Test Of A Lifelong FriendshipFor Fabricio Andrey, watching Diogo Reis draped in 26 pounds of gold is the ultimate validation of everything they experienced together during their formative years. The proud older brother in him has tracked every moment of Reis’ rise. “Baby Shark” recently extended his own 3-0 ONE Championship record, outclassing Yuki Takahashi at ONE Fight Night 43. Given the countless hours they spent refining their techniques, Andrey is not the least bit surprised by his lifelong friend’s global success:“He’s had amazing performances. He dominated all the opponents he’s fought in ONE Championship. He displayed very good jiu-jitsu and dominated all the time. He controlled his opponents and even submitted [Shoya Ishiguro].”View this post on InstagramWhile their bond is unbreakable, both men understand that competition demands its own code. They faced that reality at the 2022 ADCC World Championships, clashing through a grueling quarterfinal before Reis went on to claim the title. With the flyweight king now chasing two-division glory at a heavier weight class, the intrigue surrounding a potential rematch continues to grow.Andrey feels zero hesitation about the possibility. He believes that facing his closest confidant on the grandest platform would be the ultimate tribute to their shared journey.“Hokage” declared:“Of course! Of course I’ll fight my friend. Show me the money. This is not a problem for us. We fight a lot in training, and we fought in the ADCC Worlds. So in ONE Championship, the biggest stage, that would be amazing for me and for him too.”View this post on InstagramSource
