WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMRemember when Idaho Republicans voted no on overturning same-sex marriage? The Idaho House of Representatives passed a measure this week asking the Supreme Court to overturn its landmark 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage across the U.S. But the legislation lost three Republican votes compared to a similar measure that passed in the state House last year. As the Idaho Statesman reports, House Joint Memorial 17 passed in a 44–26 vote Tuesday. The measure, introduced by State Rep. Tony Wisniewski (R), is a formal legislative request for the Supreme Court to overturn its 2015 decision in Overgefell v. Hodges. The measure argues that the decision establishing the constitutional right of same-sex couple to legally marry is “at odds with the Constitution of the United States and the principles upon which the United States is established.” In its Obergefell ruling, the measure argues, the Court applied a definition of liberty that would not have been recognized by the country’s founders. The decision, it says, “relies on the dangerous fiction of treating the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution as a font of substantive rights” which “strays from the full meaning of the Constitution.” Related Idaho Republicans want the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate same-sex marriages House Joint Memorial 17 is identical to House Joint Memorial 1, which the Idaho House passed last year. This time around, however, 17 Republican lawmakers joined House Democrats to vote against the measure, with three more Republican no votes than in 2025. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today According to the Statesman, Republican Reps. Dori Healey and Mike Pohanka, who both voted for House Joint Memorial 1 last year, both voted against the 2026 measure. Grayson Stone, who is serving as a long-term substitute for Rep. Don Hall (R) and recently announced that he is running for Hall’s seat, also voted against the measure. Late last year, Hall replaced former Republican Rep. Lance Clow, who voted for House Joint Memorial 1. Hall resigned due to health issues earlier this year. Stone reportedly acknowledged that his no vote might amount to “political suicide,” but cited the Bible as the reason for his vote. “This entire argument is rooted in the Bible,” Stone said, according to the Statesman, noting that the Bible includes instructions on how to shave. “I just don’t understand why we have to apply the Bible to specific aspects of our life, but not all of it. So, I will be voting against this bill.” Pohanka, meanwhile, noted that his own religious beliefs on same-sex marriage have not changed since he voted for the 2025 measure. However, he told the Statesman that he represents all his constituents and wants to get back to actually legislating. “I thought we advanced [House Joint Memorial 1] last year,” he said. “This year, to me, it’s just going to cause hurt and pain and I don’t want to do that.” Healey declined to comment on his vote, according to the Statesman. House Joint Memorial 17 now advances to the Idaho Senate, which declined to vote on the 2025 measure. Even if the state senate approves House Joint Memorial 17, it would not compel the Supreme Court to act. While conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito have repeatedly signaled that they are eager to overturn Obergefell, last November the Court declined to hear a case challenging the decision. Fellow conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett has also said that she thinks the court’s same-sex marriage ruling would remain in place because it affects many other rights, including medical, financial, family, and other social rights. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRangers signing Elias Diaz, per reportsKANSAS CITY, MO - MAY 20: Kansas City Royals catcher Elias Diaz (43) gestures as he runs the bass after hitting a two-run home run in the fifth inning during a MLB game between the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals on May 20, 2026, at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO. (Photo by Keith Gillett/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images MLB Rumors: The Texas Rangers are signing free agent catcher Elias Diaz, per multiple reports.Diaz, 35, has been with the Kansas City Royals this season before being released earlier this week. He has spent most of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Colorado Rockies. In 2025 he was with the San Diego Padres, slashing .204/.270/.337 in 283 plate appearances over 106 games. The Rangers have an open 40 man roster spot due to Sam Haggerty being designated for assignment yesterday. The speculation is that Danny Jansen could be headed to the injured list. The Rangers don’t have another catcher on their 40 man roster aside from Jansen and Kyle Higashioka, and none of their AAA catchers are guys you’d feel comfortable using in a regular backup catcher role in the big leagues. After starting the year in AAA, Diaz had slashed .227/.261/.591 in 23 plate appearances over 10 games for the Royals after being added to their major league roster. Diaz came up to be the Royals’ third catcher due to concerns about Salvador Perez’s health, but was dropped in favor of Tyler Tolbert last in late May.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Bears QB Caleb Williams is perfect Madden 27 cover athleteChicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was announced as the cover athlete for "Madden NFL 27," becoming the first player in the franchise to do so. For the last quarter century, gracing Madden's cover has been an honor for whichever athlete was selected to do so that season.Williams was the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. When the Bears made that selection, they hoped that they'd be getting a player that helps turn the franchise into a respected one after decades of mediocrity. It was a tough rookie year for Williams, who had two head coaches and three offensive coordinators, but he flourished in just one season with Ben Johnson. Chicago went from worst-to-first winning the NFC North, defeated the Green Bay Packers twice, including in the playoffs, and took the Los Angeles Rams to overtime in the divisional playoffs.Along the way, off the field, Williams has established himself as one of the coolest players in the NFL. He has an aura that few around the league have these days. When you combine this with his play on the field, there aren't many better options for the cover heading into the 2026 season. The standard version of the cover features Williams recreating the "Jumpman" throw -- made famous in the wild-card playoff win against the Packers, when Williams connected with receiver Rome Odunze on fourth-and-8 -- above the Chicago skyline. The deluxe edition features the "Iceman" celebration that Williams also made famous during a Week 16 overtime win over Green Bay.The 2025 season was a strange one in a lot of ways. No one team or player stood out so much that they felt like a lock to be in consideration for Madden, which is what makes Williams the perfect choice. He's a really good player who is only going to get better, and he has a reach with the younger generation that makes him cool. The NFL is also better when the Bears are relevant, especially when their rivalry with the Packers is at its peak, which it is right now. Between this Madden news and seven nationally televised games, including Thanksgiving and Christmas, the NFL fanbase is going to get a heavy helping of the Bears coming their way.For those reasons, EA Sports hit a home run with this selection of Williams for the Madden 27 cover. Now, it is on the star quarterback to go out there and prove why he was the right man for the cover. There are a lot of great quarterbacks in the NFL, and it's about time that Chicago had one on the cover of the most iconic sports video game ever made. This article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears QB Caleb Williams is perfect Madden 27 cover athlete0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWho could replace Bernardo Silva at Manchester City?Who could replace Bernardo Silva at Manchester City? After nine illustrious seasons in Manchester, Bernardo Silva has departed the blue half of the city. City’s captain leaves with a staggering 20 trophies to his name, being a pivotal player in Pep Guardiola’s ever changing sides.Boasting an exceptional legacy at the club, ranking third in all time Premier League appearances for the Cityzens (302), alongside holding the title for most wins as a City player within the modern era of the English top-flight.A fan and a manager’s favourite, but who can fill the boots of the Portuguese maestro? Ibrahim MazaIbrahim Maza’s services were acquired by Bayer Leverkusen in the previous summer, joining from Hertha Berlin for a fee of £10.4m.The 20-year-old appeared 44 times this campaign for the German side, performing primarily in the right sided number ten role of Kasper Hjulmand’s 3-4-2-1 system. Maza is also capable of playing in a deeper role of midfield, and also on the right hand side of attack, similarly to his predecessor.Bundesliga forward becomes ‘new obsession’ for Pep Guardiola – €65 million bid pendingMaza notched five goals and six assists for Leverkusen this campaign, asserting himself as one of the shining lights of the Bundesliga, having been nominated for rookie of the season in the German top flight.During the 2025/26 campaign, the Algerian cemented himself in the Bundesliga, Champions League and for his country. As the 20-year-old provided two assists in Leverkusen’s Champions League campaign, alongside appearing for his nation at the African Cup Of Nations, where he scored twice and assisted once.Maza thrives as a technician, where he can get on the ball and aim to make something happen, whether that is taking a shot from distance, a chance or to simply control the ball. The 20-year-old’s best attribute lies in the dribbling department, where he ranks in the top 6% for successful dribbles in the Bundesliga. His overall ability in attacking and defensive areas allows him to thrive, making him the perfect successor for City’s club captain. If the 20-year-old is to depart Leverkusen this summer, City look strong candidates to be the next club for the Algerian star, having been linked with the midfielder since April. Technically confident, tactically flexible and defensively astute, Maza looks to be the long-term replacement for City’s Portuguese icon.Elliot AndersonAnderson has had a stellar season in the Premier League, cementing himself as one of the best midfield talents in the English top flight. The talented midfielder has featured 49 times for Forest this campaign, playing in every single Premier League fixture thus far, alongside helping the Tricky Trees to reach the Europa League semi-final. Anderson performs primarily as a number six in a double pivot for Vitor Pereira’s Forest side, but also offers versatility in a further attacking role in midfield.Anderson has scored four and assisted five – at the time of writing – this campaign, a step up from the two goals and six assists from his previous campaign. Alongside an increase in attacking form, the 23-year-old has consolidated his position in the England national team.Proving as an essential figure alongside Declan Rice in the engine room for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions, where he looks to be a certain starter for his country in America, Mexico and Canada next month.Whilst the England international may be seen as a more defensive alternative to Silva, Anderson acts as a controller, dictating the tempo of the game, almost identically to City’s number twenty.Manchester City and Enzo Maresca face £125M demand for priority transfer targetThe 23-year-old tops Premier League metrics for recoveries, defensive contributions, duels, successful dribbles and successful passes for defensive midfielders, asserting himself as a defensive and attacking contributor.Alongside his exceptional statistics, Anderson has been an ever-present since arriving at the City Ground, playing 74/75 available Premier League fixtures. With the fitness doubts to other defensive midfield options Mateo Kovacic and Rodri, attaining Anderson’s services will be crucial for revolutionising the Manchester City midfield, providing the club with a consistent figure and leader for the club for years to come. After an impressive campaign for the Forest midfielder, it looks likely that Anderson will depart the City ground in the summer transfer window. At 23, Anderson still has plenty of years to develop his talent and midfield prowess, similar to his predecessor who also joined the Cityzens at this period of his career.A proven Premier League option, alongside being strong in defensive and attacking areas, he looks to be the ready-made option to replace Bernardo Silva at Manchester City.Phil FodenAcademy graduate Phil Foden has struggled to nail down a specific position in Pep Guardiola’s ever-changing Manchester City systems.Coming through the City ranks as a number ten, the Stockport born star acted as an understudy for the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Bernardo Silva, before switching to a wider position.Since the departure of the former, the 26-year-old has found his position back centrally. However, with the abundance of talent in the City midfield with the likes of Rodri, Cherki, Silva and O’Reilly, the academy star has struggled for consistent starts in the Cityzens’ side.Like Silva, Foden has found himself playing in the deeper roles in midfield this season. Due to his talents in receiving, scanning, ball progression and dribbling, he acts as the number eight to drive attacks forward. This modification in position can help to enhance Foden’s chances for game time following the departure of this captain, helping to solidify his place as an essential asset to Manchester City once more. The 25-year-old has an impressive 12 goals and assists in 22 Premier League starts this campaign, playing in a variety of different roles just like his Portuguese teammate.Phil Foden breaks silence on Manchester City struggles after five-star Crystal Palace performanceThis alteration to the role for the City academy graduate could prove meaningful in preparation for City’s life after Bernardo Silva. The pair both boast a similar play-style: left footed, slight build, technically focused and tactically flexible. Foden would be the most cost-effective – and the most direct – way to replace the Portuguese star.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAndreeva wins first Grand Slam title at French OpenMirra Andreeva became the youngest women's French Open champion since 1992 (Alain JOCARD)Mirra Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title on Saturday by downing Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in straight sets in the French Open final. The 19-year-old Russian beat Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to become the youngest Roland Garros women's singles champion since Monica Seles, then aged 18, won her third straight title in Paris in 1992.With her first-ever major crown, Andreeva also became the first player, man or woman, born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam. The Coupe Suzanne Lenglen will now take centre spot in Andreeva's burgeoning trophy cabinet, which already features two WTA 1000 titles.Defeat at the final hurdle brought to an end an astonishing run which started in qualifying for Chwalinska, who won nine matches in the French capital to become the first qualifier to reach the final in the Open era. However, the world number 114's career will now be on a different stratosphere as she will climb to 21 in the rankings and be assured of competing regularly in tennis' biggest tournaments.- True grit -Chwalinska displayed some early nerves as she dumped two serves straight into the net on the very first point of the match, with Andreeva finally forcing a break at the end of a seven-minute long opening game. But the Pole broke back instantly as Andreeva overcooked a backhand down the line following a series of looping defensive shots coming from both sides of the court at 30-40.Both players seemed to be struggling with the occasion, a situation not helped by blustery conditions on centre court, as two more consecutive breaks came about.Chwalinska then put an end to that as she held to love, bringing the crowd to their feet as she showed the variety of her shot selection by drawing Andreeva to the net with a drop shot before lobbing her with a perfectly weighted volley en route to taking a 3-2 lead. But Andreeva showed she was willing to go toe-to-toe with her opponent as she waited patiently to strike with a winner up the line before slamming down an ace to earn her first hold of the match. The Russian dug in and moved into the ascendancy as she pounced on a Chwalinska service game that was particularly impacted by the wind as several court-side spectators saw their straw hats fly off in the breeze. She then reeled off a comfortable hold before powering to a one-set lead, breaking Chwalinska again with a crosscourt backhand winner.Andreeva kept on a roll as Chwalinska compiled errors to go behind early in the second frame. Two Andreeva errors and an unplayable drop shot gave the Pole the chance to instantly wipe out that advantage but the teen showed serious mettle to pull off a battling hold and at 3-0 the writing looked on the wall for Chwalinska.Andreeva then rattled through the next two games to move to the brink. But Chwalinska refused to give in and held to make it 5-1, before breaking Andreeva as she served for the match. However, the new world number six was not to be denied as she pounced in the very next game to claim the biggest trophy so far of her fledgling career.A backhand winner sending her crumpling to her knees as she surpassed her coach Conchita Martinez's 2000 runner-up finish at Roland Garros.nf/jc0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFrench Open women’s final: Mirra Andreeva overpowers Maja Chwalińska for first Grand Slam titleRelive the 2026 French Open women’s final with live coverage from The AthleticPARIS — Mirra Andreeva beat Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open final at Stade Roland-Garros on Saturday. The No. 8 seed from Russia prevailed over the qualifier and world No. 114 from Poland in a match that started compellingly but was ultimately one-sided, decided by Andreeva’s ability to match Chwalińska’s variety, and her proactivity in stepping inside the court to attack. It is the 19-year-old’s maiden Grand Slam singles title, in her first Grand Slam final. The Athletic’s writers, Charlie Eccleshare and Matt Futterman, analyze the final and what it means for tennis. How did Andreeva turn the first set? It’s 3-3, 30-30. Chwalińska is serving. She’s coming off her first service hold of the match. She’s in this thing. She’s frustrating Andreeva with variety, and off-speed balls, spins and changes in height over the net. This is how it’s gone for nine matches. It might be on again. But then Chwalińska sends a short forehand flying off the court to give Andreeva a break point. Then she slices a backhand into the net. Two shots that had been money for her for two weeks become gifts for Andreeva, who grabs a 4-3 lead.Things turned from there. Andreeva won 20 of the next 21 points, and it was like someone had turned on a switch. Now she was taking balls early and belting line drives and looping darts into the corners. For the first time in the match, it looked like a top-10 player was going up against a qualifier.Andreeva played the next four games with an authority that her compatriots, Diana Shnaider and Anna Kalinskaya, never found against Chwalińska. They had played reactive tennis, allowing the world No. 114 to dictate the terms of engagement and scramble them.Andreeva was determined not to do that. It seemed like she had figured out the way. Now it was a question of whether she could sustain it.She could.— Matt FuttermanWhy was Chwalińska’s greatest asset neutralized by Andreeva’s play?In her run to the final, Chwalińska made most of her opponents look one-dimensional. They may have been higher-ranked, but they simply couldn’t deal with Chwalińska’s beguiling mix of spins and slices, and ended up being exposed as not really having a Plan B.The fear for Chwalińska going into this match was that she was finally up against an opponent who, as well as having more power, might be able to at least try and match her when it came to variety. As early as the second game of the match, Andreeva tried a moonball of her own to give an indication that she wasn’t going to dance to Chwalińska’s tune. Chwalińska ended up winning the point, but it was a message from Andreeva: She didn’t mind if the match became a bit scrappy and unorthodox. The 19-year-old can mix the pace and trajectory of her ball, and possesses an excellent forehand slice. She used one to great effect when serving at 4-3 up in the first set, with the ball landing so deep and in the corner that it went past a bemused-looking Chwalińska for a winner. Wasn’t it her opponents who were supposed to be the ones with the furrowed brow?On the next point, Andreeva completed an important hold for 5-3 by chasing down a Chwalińska drop shot and responding with an even cuter one of her own. It barely cleared the net and forced Chwalińska to hoist up a lob that Andreeva could easily flick away for a winner. It was the first time either player had had daylight in the final, and, thanks to the variety that has been Chwalińska’s hallmark this tournament, Andreeva was on her way.— Charlie EccleshareHow did the favorite manage the pressure of expectation? When Chwalińska hit a brilliant drop shot for 0-30, with Andreeva serving at 2-0 in the second set, the Russian’s reaction was one fans have seen before. She chucked the ball away in anger, and it looked as though this might be one of those moments when her composure suddenly evaporates.Still only 19, it’s only natural Andreeva has these moments from time to time, but they can seriously derail her. Like this time a year ago, when Andreeva twice smacked a ball away in frustration and asked for members of her team to leave the court during a frazzling quarterfinal defeat to home favorite Loïs Boisson.Andreeva lost the next point to go down 0-40, and maybe this was going to be another of those moments. Instead, Andreeva steadied to win the next five points and hold for 3-0 — breaking Chwalińska’s resistance once and for all.It was a similar level of calmness Andreeva had shown in the early stages of the first set, when she could have started venting at being 3-2 behind having twice been a break up. It followed a similar level of calm in her previous two matches against Marta Kostyuk and Sorana Cîrstea. In both, Andreeva gave up a break lead in the second set, only to straight away get it back and not lose another game.Andreeva hasn’t had to face a huge amount of adversity in her run to the title, dropping just one set along the way, but that’s largely because she hasn’t let things spiral when she has suffered setbacks. This match, a first Grand Slam final, where she was a huge favorite against an extremely tricky player, would have been tailor-made not long ago to drive her to distraction. Instead, she kept her cool.— Charlie EccleshareWhat does tennis look like with no serves? The serve always means something to a match, even though it remains less of a defining factor in the women’s game. Don’t have a fastball that can win free points? That’s a lot of pressure to place on winning points from the baseline, especially in a major final. There were serves in this French Open final, to be clear — they just had very little influence, if any, on the outcome of the match, despite one player having clear supremacy on the shot before it started.Andreeva, who can crack her serve into the 115 mph range, averaged 93 mph on her first serve Saturday. She had one ace and two double faults, but her serve was basically a point-starter. It’s possible the outcome of this match would have been the same had a coach stood at the side of the net and took turns feeding a ball to a player to start a rally. There were five unreturned serves in the entire match, three for Chwalińska and two for Andreeva.Andreeva won the higher proportion of first-serve points, but that was largely because of how she proactively stepped into the court during a rally, not because she was swinging the ball past her opponent right from the start of the point.Chwalińska might wish she had served better, but that was never the weapon that was going to win her this title. It could have been for Andreeva. She didn’t need it to be.— Matt FuttermanWhat did Mirra Andreeva say after the final? We’ll bring you their on-court quotes and press conference reflections as they come in.What did Maja Chwalińska say after the final? We’ll bring you their on-court quotes and press conference reflections as they come in.This article originally appeared in The Athletic.Tennis, Top Sports News, Women's Tennis2026 The Athletic Media Company0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLes Snead’s Championship Design Is Like Traveling Through a Time MachineThe Los Angeles Rams general manager, Les Snead, has guided the franchise back to championship status after their 2021 title run, using many of the same strategies that helped the franchise win its last Super Bowl. The Rams won Super Bowl LVI with a regular-season record of 12-5, and since then, the Rams have been rebuilding, steadily improving year after year.Les Snead’s Championship Design Is Like Traveling Through a Time MachineLast season, the team finished 12-5 and was one play away from winning the NFC and playing in the Super Bowl. This season, the team once again has several premier players along with the same quarterback and head coach, illustrating their championship design.Whether it’s 2021 or 2026, the Rams strategically designed a remarkably similar championship-caliber roster. Based on Snead’s design, the Rams appear well-positioned to compete for another championship this season. As Super Bowl favorites, the Rams are the best team in the league.Snead’s Championship DesignAs general manager for one of the best front offices in the NFL, Snead is a master at designing rosters. In 2021, the Rams’ roster was loaded with superstars. Led by quarterback Matthew Stafford, the team also featured stars such as Cooper Kupp, Andrew Whitworth, Leonard Floyd, Jalen Ramsey, and Aaron Donald. The roster was loaded with premier talent, with every unit featuring at least one player who was Hall of Fame worthy, and this season’s roster is built the same.Every unit has talent from the quarterback to the safety position. Snead’s design follows the same formula – a star quarterback, at least one dominant receiver, a strong offensive line, a dominant pass rusher, and one elite cornerback.Players like Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Myles Garrett, and Trent McDuffie are the key pieces in Snead’s design. Snead typically builds through the draft until the Super Bowl window opens.Once the Super Bowl window opens, Snead adopts the aggressive philosophy that became known as “F them picks.” After the Rams’ 2021 title run, Snead embraced the slogan, wearing a shirt with the quote shown across his face.Since then, he has steadily added high-caliber talent through both the draft and the trade market, creating what may be the most talented roster in the NFL.Sean McVay’s Roster InputAnother key element of Snead’s championship design is his close collaboration with head coach Sean McVay. McVay has been heavily involved in the Rams’ roster construction since becoming the head coach in 2017.McVay’s voice is highly valued, and Snead works with him to create the best rosters possible. McVay was one of the leading voices behind the Jared Goff – Matthew Stafford trade, a move that became one of the main reasons the Rams won Super Bowl LVI.McVay’s influence remains just as instrumental today as when he became head coach. Although he later cleared the air, McVay’s initial reaction to the Ty Simpson pick sparked speculation that he was dissatisfied with the pick. The Rams spent their 13th overall pick in this year’s draft on Stafford’s successor, but with their Super Bowl window open, many speculated that it was a waste. After the addition of Myles Garrett, the Simpson selection makes far more sense and demonstrates the strong working relationship between McVay and Snead. Draft and develop talent now, then use future draft picks to acquire superstar players. While they may not agree with each other, they trust each other. While McVay lets Snead know his preferences, he trusts Snead to guide the franchise in the right direction. Several trades, including two blockbuster trades of Garrett and McDuffie this offseason, help validate the Simpson selection. The chemistry between McVay and Snead is undeniable and when they work together, they have proven that they can win the Super Bowl.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis -

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMThis 81-year-old nun is helping Catholic parents affirm their trans kidsAn 81-year-old St. Louis nun has devoted the past two years to helping Catholic parents affirm their trans children. Sister Nancy Corcoran of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet hosts weekly dinners where about two dozen parents commiserate over the challenges of raising trans children in America’s hostile political and religious environment. Related Democratic leaders across the country are all in for Pride Month: “Pride is joy. Pride is courage.” “They share their stories,” Corcoran told St. Louis Public Radio. “They eat, they talk about being Catholic, work, and being affirming parents.” Corocoran made it clear that the group is exclusively about helping one another support trans kids. It does not tolerate discussion of trying to stop children from being who they are. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “They have to realize it is not about them, it’s about their child,” she said. “Do they want their child to become the best person that they can be, whoever that is, whether it’s male or female?” Corcoran didn’t always believe in the legitimacy of trans identities. But when she met an out trans student for the first time about ten years ago, things changed. She decided to spend her two-year sabbatical traveling the country to learn more about trans people. “Nancy, you’re blind and stupid in an area that is making a big difference to people’s lives,” she told herself, “and so you need to learn.” When she met a parent who was desperate for connection with other affirming Catholic parents, she decided to start hosting the Friday dinners. Trans Rev. Eli Anthony, who has worked with Corcoran through the LGBTQ+ Faith Alliance, said work like Corcoran’s “means so much.” “I come from a strict Catholic family background,” he said. “It took five or so years, but my own family is now very accepting of me. They call me Eli, they use my pronouns. But I think I understand the pain and fear that parents have, they want their kid to go to heaven, they want their kid to belong in this world. I can’t imagine hearing state legislation, seeing social media, that fear.” Missouri has passed a slew of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in recent years, while the state’s former attorney general has sued to uphold conversion therapy, gone after trans women in locker rooms, and targeted healthcare workers for assisting trans youth. A report released at the end of 2025 by the Movement Advancement Project (MAP) found that up to an estimated $879 million in LGBTQ+ household and business income has left Missouri in recent years, as queer residents flee the hostile political environment. “I know 40 families who have already left the state,” Corcoran said. “These are good, hardworking people. Every family of a trans child knows how long it will take to get across the river into Illinois, how long it would take to get to Canada, and, if they can afford it, they all have passports. That’s the kind of terror that they live in. When you think that when a child goes to school, they have to worry about where they’re going to go to the bathroom. Really?” But she remains optimistic that the tides will turn, at least within Catholicism. “Yes, of course, the church will change,” she said. “It always gets better.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Challenges ahead': Suryakumar Yadav breaks silence after India snub as Shreyas Iyer named T20I captainSuryakumar Yadav wished the Indian team well after losing the T20I captaincy, sharing a message of support on Instagram following the announcement of India's squads for the Ireland and England tours. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday named Shreyas Iyer as India's new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav. Soon after the announcement, Suryakumar posted an Instagram story backing the team."Wishing this highly skilled group all the best for challenges ahead," Surya posted on his Instagram story. The squad announcement also marked a major moment in Indian cricket as 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned his maiden India call-up. At 15 years and 71 days old, he became the youngest player ever selected in an Indian cricket team, going past the record held by Sachin Tendulkar.Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi on November 15, 1989.India will first tour Ireland for two T20Is on June 26 and 28 before playing a five-match T20I series against England from July 1 to 11.Shreyas returned to India's T20I side for the first time since the match against Australia in Bengaluru on December 3, 2023.“We have got a bit more time for the next WC, and his (Shreyas) performances as captain having won (the IPL) with KKR and a couple of good seasons with PBKS. He was very close to always being there in the team but could not find the spot,” chief selector Ajit Agarkar told reporters after announcing the squads.Agarkar said Suryakumar's form over the last two seasons influenced the decision to make a change in leadership. As a result, Suryakumar lost both the T20I captaincy and his place in the squad.Squads:For Ireland and England T20 tours: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (vc), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. For Asian Games: Shreyas Iyer (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (vc), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. For multi-day matches in Sri Lanka: Dhruv Jurel (c&wk), Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal (vc), Ayush Pandey, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Harsh Dube, Saransh Jain, Gurnoor Brar, Auqib Nabi, Yash Thakur, N Jagadeesan (wk), Aman Mokhade, Shaik Rashid, Zeeshan Ansari. 1315542550 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKimi Antonelli's dominance continues as he beats Max Verstappen for Monaco Grand Prix pole positionKimi Antonelli’s dream season shows no signs of ending anytime soon. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver beat Max Verstappen for the pole position of the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday with a lap right as the final session of qualifying ended. Verstappen had posted the fastest time of the session ahead of Lewis Hamilton, but Antonelli beat Verstappen by 0.043 seconds to start first. If you know anything about the Monaco Grand Prix, you know just how important it is to start first. As F1 cars have gotten bigger and bigger, passing has gotten harder and harder at the tight track in the confines of the principality. On-track passes for the lead are rarer than an endangered species. The best hope for Verstappen and Hamilton is a pit strategy maneuver or, somehow, a pass right after the start of the race.Charles Leclerc will start fourth after he smacked the wall with his right rear tire as Antonelli was finishing his lap. Leclerc had posted the lap to beat before the three others got past him on their final laps. After George Russell won the Australian Grand Prix, Antonelli has won each of the last four races to build a 43-point lead over his teammate in the standings. Russell was slow all throughout qualifying on Saturday and will start sixth behind Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar in fifth.Russell’s poor qualifying means Antonelli has the chance to jump more than two full races ahead of Russell just six races into the 2026 season. Race wins are worth 25 points. If Antonelli and Russell hold their positions throughout the race on Sunday, Antonelli’s points lead will be 58.McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris occupy the fourth row. The two drivers were over a half-second back of Antonelli as the top six all posted laps within four tenths of a second of each other.Monaco Grand Prix qualifying results1. Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes2. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNFL landing spots for Brendan Sorsby after appeal falls shortTexas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has reportedly taken one step closer to entering the NFL Supplemental Draft this summer.According to ESPN, Texas Tech’s appeal to have Sorsby’s eligibility reinstated was denied by the NCAA. This comes on the heels of Sorsby losing eligibility after he admitted to gambling, including on his own team when he attended Indiana. There is still one more avenue for Sorsby to play college ball in 2026 after he filed for an injunction in the 99th District Court in Lubbock Country. No decision has come down from Judge Ken Curry yet.MORE: New details emerge that Brendan Sorsby had others bet for himIf Sorsby fails to regain his eligibility, we could see him enter the NFL Supplemental Draft this year.Should Sorsby take that route, here’s a list of teams that could make him the first NFL Supplemental Draft pick since 2019.New York JetsThe Jets signed Geno Smith and drafted Cade Klubnik, but Smith is in his late 30s and was one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL last season and Klubnik doesn’t offer much hope because he was a fourth-round pick. The Jets could very well wait until the 2027 NFL Draft, which is expected to be deep at the quarterback position. But with three first-round picks next year, the Jets are in a great spot to take a swing on Sorsby with a 2027 pick if they think he could be “the guy” in New York.Miami DolphinsA quarterbacks room that includes Malik Willis and Quinn Ewers offers zero guarantees for the Dolphins.Willis impressed in relief duty for the Green Bay Packers the past two years, but the jury is still out on his ability to be a franchise quarterback thanks to his small sample size.MORE: Dolphins offense in for long season after Jeff Hafley’s commentsThe same can be said for Ewers, who has just four NFL games (three starts) under his belt. The Dolphins would have a crowded quarterbacks room with Sorsby in the mix, but that’s a good problem to have at the most important position in the NFL.Cleveland BrownsDeshaun Watson is entering the final year of his contract and barring a massive turnaround from his dismal showings during his Browns tenure, he’s unlikely to be back in 2027.Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders is competing against Watson for the starting job this year, but we still don’t know if the Colorado product is the long-term answer in Cleveland.Head coach Todd Monken has cast doubt on the Browns being interested in Sorsby, but general manager Andrew Berry hasn’t closed the door on that option.MORE: Second-year NFL QBs poised for a breakout season“No different than we do every year,” Berry said of possible interest in Sorsby. “We’ll do the work on all the prospects, and then we’ll make the appropriate decision for the organization.”Arizona CardinalsA quarterbacks room that includes journeymen Jacoby Brissett, who is currently in the midst of a holdout, and Gardner Minshew and 2026 third-round pick Carson Beck doesn’t exactly inspire confidence for the future under center in Arizona. We know neither Brissett nor Minshew are long-term solutions, and Beck is a total wild card as he prepares for his rookie campaign. With general manager Monti Ossenfort likely on the hot seat as he enters his fourth season on the job, Sorsby could give him another avenue to keep his it.Tampa Bay BuccaneersThe Buccaneers have a good starter in place for 2026 in Baker Mayfield, but this could also be his last season with the team.Mayfield is entering the final year of his contract and recently admitted extension talks with the Bucs aren’t going well.MORE: Buccaneers playing foolish game with Baker Mayfield“Not anywhere close to what we were thinking,” Mayfield said of extension talks with the Bucs, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “Would love to be here long term but as of right now that’s not exactly the case.”If Mayfield and the Bucs remain at a standstill, it’s possible Tampa Bay could explore adding Sorsby as the heir-apparent.Minnesota VikingsThe Vikings already have a crowded situation at quarterback with Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, but neither one is a lock to answer the bell.Murray is a solid starting quarterback, but injuries have been an issue for him during his career and he’s only on a one-year deal.Meanwhile, McCarthy, who appears to be trailing Murray early on in their competition, was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL in 2025, which leaves his future in doubt. If the Vikings aren’t fully confident in either quarterback, it’s possible they take a swing on Sorsby.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReport: Forest are in the race to sign Bundesliga forwardReport: Forest are in the race to sign Bundesliga forwardNottingham Forest Transfer News: Said El Mala Interest Signals AmbitionForest and Newcastle Track Cologne ForwardNottingham Forest’s transfer planning has rarely felt quiet, and the latest report from TEAMtalk adds another intriguing name to the summer conversation. According to TEAMtalk, Forest and Newcastle United have both made contact over a potential move for Cologne forward Said El Mala, a 19-year-old attacker attracting interest across Europe. The phrase “highly-rated young forward” is used often in modern football, sometimes too often, yet El Mala appears to fit the description with more substance than most. He has impressed at Cologne, caught the eye in youth international football, and already worked his way into senior squad discussions. For Forest, that matters. This is a club trying to build not merely for survival, but for identity. Players such as El Mala represent possibility, speed, unpredictability and resale value. They also represent risk, because the leap from promise in Germany to delivery in the Premier League can be brutal.Family Element Adds Transfer ComplexityTEAMtalk report that Brentford had previously been leading the pursuit, only to step away after “significant hurdles” emerged. Those hurdles are understood to involve extra demands beyond the main transfer structure. The most fascinating aspect is the family dynamic. El Mala’s parents are said to be closely involved in negotiations and are keen for clubs to also consider signing his older brother, Malek El Mala, who remains at Cologne.Photo IMAGOThat is where a football story becomes a human one. Clubs like Forest and Newcastle are not simply assessing Said’s pace, ceiling and tactical fit. They are weighing squad planning, dressing-room logic, wage structures and whether a dual deal makes sense.TEAMtalk state: “Said is also well ahead in terms of his level, and Malek is still to make a senior Bundesliga appearance.”That sentence may prove decisive. Sentiment can influence transfers, but Premier League clubs rarely have the luxury of indulging it without a sporting case.Creative Solutions May Be NeededForest and Newcastle are reportedly still exploring ways to keep the deal alive. That suggests the interest is genuine, and perhaps strong enough to justify compromise. For Forest, the attraction is clear. El Mala would add directness and attacking electricity, qualities every Premier League side craves. He would not necessarily arrive as an instant starter, but as a development piece with the potential to become something larger. There is also competition from Serie A and other Bundesliga clubs, which means Forest cannot afford to treat this as a straightforward negotiation. Cologne have offered El Mala a new contract, and TEAMtalk claim that while he has not pushed to leave, “there is a desire to play at a higher level.”That leaves Forest in a delicate position. Push too hard, and the family element may become a problem. Move too slowly, and Newcastle or a continental rival may shape the deal first.Premier League Ambition Meets Transfer RealityThis is the sort of deal that reveals how modern recruitment really works. It is not only about scouting the player. It is about understanding the ecosystem around him.Forest have shown ambition before, sometimes boldly, sometimes chaotically. A move for El Mala would need to be the former. If they believe he can become a Premier League-level forward, then the club should explore every sensible route. If the brother clause becomes too heavy, then discipline must win.Said El Mala looks like a player worth watching. Whether Forest can turn interest into agreement may depend less on money, and more on patience, persuasion and clarity of plan. Our View – EPL Index AnalysisFrom a Forest fan’s perspective, this is exactly the type of transfer rumour that gets the imagination going. Not because Said El Mala is a household name, but because he feels like the sort of player Forest should be looking at.There is a thrill in signing potential before it becomes obvious. Forest have spent enough time reacting to the market. Deals like this suggest a club trying to get ahead of it. A 19-year-old forward with Bundesliga exposure, youth international pedigree and interest from Newcastle is not a casual target. There is something there. The concern, naturally, is the complexity. Forest supporters have seen enough transfer windows to know that ambition can drift into clutter. If signing Said means being pushed into a second deal for Malek, then the club have to be ruthless. Family matters, but squad balance matters too.Still, there is a romantic side to this. Footballers are not spreadsheet entries. They are young men making life-changing choices, often with family close by. If Forest can build trust, offer a genuine development pathway and avoid overcomplicating the squad, this could be clever business. The key question is simple, does El Mala fit the plan? If he does, Forest should be brave. If he does not, walk away cleanly. Supporters will accept ambition. What they cannot afford is another transfer that looks exciting in June and confusing by November.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMirra Andreeva comes of age to win French Open and end Maja Chwalinska fairytale runMirra Andreeva overcame testing conditions and the burden of years of expectations to defeat qualifier Maja Chwalinska for her first grand slam title, becoming the youngest women's champion at the French Open since 18-year-old Monica Seles in 1992.19-year-old Andreeva announced her enormous potential on the clay in Madrid two years ago, following that with a storming run to the French Open quarter-finals. Despite her young age she had long been tipped to convert that into titles – and two years on, the vastly experienced teenager fulfilled that potential, maintaining her focus despite a difficult, windy court and a highly partisan crowd to win Roland Garros 6-3 6-2. The eighth seed collapsed to the clay and covered her face in disbelief as a smash, with Chwalinska rooted to the spot, sealed the first of what many believe will be several major titles. It brought an end to Chwalinska’s stunning fairytale run, as she attempted to become only the second qualifier to ever win a major, after Emma Raducanu at the US Open in 2021. Andreeva paid tribute to Chwalinska in the podium ceremony, joking: “You are a very tricky opponent, I wouldn’t want to play against you another time... okay, it’s fine, I hope we play many, many more finals together in the future.“I cannot believe I’m holding this trophy right now. Paris is going to have a very special place in my heart.”She thanked the tournament directors, ball kids, and her team, before adding: “Last but not least, I want to thank myself for believing in myself and always giving 100 per cent, even when it is tough. I try every day to be better as a person and as a player, and fight so many demons inside of me. Only I know how tough it was for me these two weeks – so thanks to myself.”Mirra Andreeva is a grand slam champion for the first time at the age of 19 years and 39 days (AP)Andreeva had said after her semi-final win over Marta Kostyuk that a change in her perspective over the course of this season has allowed her to stay calm in situations that previously would have derailed her. While her increased maturity has been evident the question remained of how she would fare in a cauldron of support for her opposition. Her impetuousness and temper have often worked against her, while she wilted against home favourite Lois Boisson at the semi-final stage last year, unable to cope with the emotion of the situation. And she was facing a similarly one-sided crowd on Saturday, with chants of “Maja, Maja, Maja” erupting during the warm-up, as world No 114 Chwalinska stepped up to serve, and at every changeover. But the key to Andreeva’s run in this tournament has been her ability to adapt, whether that be to different opponents or rapidly changing conditions, and to keep calm, to the extent that she told press after the semi-final that she was so focused she could see “the little hairs on the ball”. She needed every bit of that focus on Sunday. Chwalinska was a difficult opponent, but in many ways this was Andreeva’s Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen to lose. Maja Chwalinska ran out of steam at the end of a stunning run from qualifying, which has launched her into the top 30 in the world (Reuters)Against Kostyuk Andreeva had seemed scarcely bothered by the wind, although she later admitted it had made for tough conditions, changing direction and speed unpredictably. The conditions were similar on Saturday, swirling and kicking clay up into the players’ faces. But they troubled her more, while the nerves of a first slam final were compounded by being the expected champion against a free-swinging underdog with nothing to lose.Nerves were evidently a factor for both, however; Chwalinska, choosing to serve first, opened with a double fault, and there were four consecutive breaks of serve. The Pole’s unorthodox game style posed immediate problems as she chopped and changed pace and direction, with her heavy spin and lefty forehand, and the sheer variety and inventiveness of her game, frustrating Andreeva. Chwalinska’s love of moonballs and ability to switch with ease between baseline exchange and clever drop shot paid off as she went toe to toe with the Russian, who struggled on serve and with her choice of shot. But Andreeva’s ability to focus despite the many distractions – particularly as the wind continued to pick up – was on show as, from 3-3 and after four straight breaks of serve before Chwalinska held for the first time, she locked down. She broke the 24-year-old’s serve again before backing up the break for the first time, digging out a drop shot that very nearly died in the service box before planting a smash into the open court. After taking a 4-3 lead in the first set Andreeva pulled away (AP)That was the catalyst she needed; she went 0-40 up in Chwalinska’s next service game and fired a beautiful backhand cross-court winner to take the set, celebrating with a fist pump and determined smile. She looked like a slam winner-in-waiting.Andreeva’s first serve percentage, having hovered in the low 40 per cent in the first half of the first set, improved to the high 70s, while she showed more conviction in her clean, destructive groundstrokes. Chwalinska, who was playing in her 10th match in a row after winning three in qualifying, began to look mentally drained and to leak errors. There was more fight down the teenager’s side of the court: a sloppy service game as she led 2-0 saw her slip to 0-40 down, but she reeled off five points in a row, getting to deuce with a tidy backhand winner before Chwalinska hit long, to stave off trouble and extend her lead to 3-0. She broke to love immediately after, with the Pole slipping glumly to the court as she watched a forehand trail long, her chances of a slam title carried away on the Parisian wind. In the ceremony, she joked: “You’re so young and talented, it’s so annoying.” To the crowd, she added: “I wish you could see a better match today but Mirra was just too good, so it’s her fault.”Andreeva played patiently against a tricky opponent and overwhelmed her from the baseline (AP)Andreeva made a colossal hash of a net smash at 40-15 in her next service game, but didn’t blink, and a battering ram of a backhand down the line put her a game away from the title. But as Chwalinska held for the first time in the set, the pressure was once more all on the teenager’s shoulders. It told: a miss on a routine net volley brought up 30-30 and she swung long on a forehand to gift Chwalinska a rare break point, but although she saved the first, two clunking errors – the second another poor forehand long – handed over the break and set off another chorus of “Maja, Maja, Maja”.But in the greatest test of her life the teenager held firm and Chwalinska buckled. Andreeva earned three match points and only needed one, shifting from baseline to net to hammer away the winner. She dropped to the ground in joy before embracing Chwalinska and heading up to her box, celebrating with coach Conchita Martinez, who has been integral to her rise. After two weeks of intense focus, the teenager could allow herself a beaming smile, while having worked so hard on her composure, it was telling that there were no tears and she seemed relaxed. Like this was simply inevitable, the culmination of years of work that would always end with her lifting the Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen aloft.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWembanyama learning lesson Kobe, LeBron, other greats did before: Adversity comes before Finals glorySAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama wasn't sure what just happened. He was a jumble of emotions after Game 2.He understands that is the issue."I'm still very blurry. That's the whole problem. I need to have more poise, more control over the game," Wembanyama said from the podium.Wembanyama is learning that poise in these biggest of moments is earned, and the path to it can be a painful one to walk.Wemby was born with incredible gifts — size, athleticism, touch — and has worked relentlessly to hone and master them. Wembanyama has challenged himself mentally and works as hard on his mind and that side of the game as he does on the physical side. However, poise on the biggest stage in basketball is often earned through painful lessons. In that way, these NBA Finals for Victor Wembanyama follow in the footsteps of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and countless other legends of the game who struggled in their first playoffs and/or first NBA Finals. It is unique to this stage.Wembanyama rough 12 secondsThrough six quarters of these NBA Finals, Karl-Anthony Towns and a physical Knicks defense that bumped Wemby on every roll to the rim, bodied him up, threw different looks at him and generally just made him uncomfortable. Wemby found space to operate. After taking four shots in the entire first half, Wembanyama took double that in the third quarter alone and four of them at the rim. He scored a dozen points in the frame, but could not totally close the gap against the Knicks as a New York lineup of Mikal Bridges and four bench players outplayed the Spurs and had New York up nine entering the fourth quarter. That lead stretched out to 14 midway through the fourth quarter, when Wembanyama really took over and led a run — with Dylan Harper and De'Aaron Fox making plays, too — that tied the game, and the Spurs ultimately took a two-point lead with 57 seconds left on a Wembanyama and-1. Brunson tied the game with a jumper, setting up the final seconds.San Antonio got the stop it needed thanks to a Wembanyama contest, then — as only he can do, he covers so much ground — Wemby recovered, grabbed the rebound and started up court. The other Spurs players on the floor quickly recognized that coach Mitch Johnson was not going to call a timeout (and let the Knicks sub offense for defense), and so they sprinted to their lanes while Fox hung back as the outlet for Wemby. Then Wemby threw a look-ahead pass to Stephon Castle, who had his back turned and never saw it. Brunson picked up the loose ball, and in rushing to try to grab the ball to make up for his mistake, Wembanyama bumped Brunson and fouled him.Jalen Brunson misses the jumper over Victor Wembanyama, who passes to Stephon Castle, who isn't looking, and the ball bounces off his back to Brunson, and Wemby fouls him.Brunson splits the clutch free throws and the Spurs call a timeout. This could be a costly mistake by… pic.twitter.com/utYSjtHEGW— MrBuckBuck (@MrBuckBuckNBA) June 6, 2026"Yeah, I threw that one away. I messed up," Wembanyama said, taking ownership of the moment. The Spurs still had a chance. Brunson hit just one of two free throws, a bucket gets San Antonio the win. Mitch Johnson called for a Fox/Wembanyama pick-and-roll, Fox made a perfect pass when both defenders shifted to cut him off, and Wembanyama got as clean a look as could be hoped for in that moment, he just missed it off the back of the rim.KNICKS GET THE HUGE DEFENSIVE STOP TO WIN GAME 2 THEY'VE WON 13 STRAIGHT AND LEAD THE NBA FINALS, 2-0 pic.twitter.com/5V67qIcT7F— NBA (@NBA) June 6, 2026"Of course I liked the shot. I feel like in this moment you need to shoot to score," Wembanyama said. "In moments like this, it's like results matter more than process, if you know what I mean. We just need to score. I just need to score."Hard lessons on biggest stageVictor Wembanyama is walking a path many other legends of the game have walked before.Kobe Bryant wanted to be the man in his first NBA playoffs, but he airballed a jumper in Game 5 of a second-round series against the Utah Jazz, sending the game to overtime, where the Lakers lost (and ultimately were eliminated). In Kobe's first trip to the NBA Finals in 2000, he averaged just 15.6 points per game on 36.7% shooting and 20% from 3 against Indiana (fortunately, he had peak Shaq on his team to utterly dominate and the Lakers got the ring). In LeBron James first trip to the NBA Finals — where he lifted a Cavaliers team to a moment it was not fully ready for — he shot just 35.6% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc as San Antonio swept Cleveland. The list goes on and on, and it doesn't take reaching the NBA Finals to learn those lessons."I have been on the other side where you're a young team and you're trying to do a lot to win the game," Towns said, referencing his years in Minnesota, and showing empathy for Wemby and the Spurs, but also recognizing that his past pain fuels how he has played in these Finals. "I think that for us, we keep leaning on experience and we keep leaning on the word 'execution.'"Wembanyama gets the big picture, too."We didn't play great as a team. We needed to win that game. This game was ours," Wembanyama said. "But at this point, it's done. Yes, am I going to regret it? Yes, of course. Am I going to use that to fuel me and to fuel us next game? Absolutely."That's what should scare the rest of the league. Wembanyama — and Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle, and coach Mitch Johnson, and on down the line — are soaking up some painful, hard lessons in these Finals. Ones that will fuel them in the future. Ones that will make them better. It's all part of the process that so many legends had to go through before. That doesn't make the present any less painful in San Antonio.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC Vegas 118 main card preview: Belal Muhammad seeks to avoid his third straight lossWhile the focus of the UFC is on next weekend’s UFC Freedom 250 card taking place at the White House, there’s some business to take care of in Las Vegas, and the UFC returns to its home. The UFC is back at the Apex for UFC Vegas 118, Belal Muhammad vs Gabriel Bonfim. The card actually has some solid depth for an Apex Fight Night card and could bring major swings in certain divisions. MORE: UFC Vegas 118 weigh-in results: Belal Muhammad vs Gabriel Bonfim officialHere are the predictions and breakdowns for the main card of UFC Vegas 118. Belal Muhammad vs Gabriel Bonfim (Welterweight) Jul 13, 2024; Denver, Colorado, USA; Gabriel Bonfim (red gloves) reacts after his fight against Ange Loosa (blue gloves) during UFC Fight Night at Ball Arena. Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn ImagesBelal Muhammad enters this weekend on a two-fight skid, but the two opponents were Jack Della Maddalena and Ian Machado Garry, two of the best at 170 pounds. The matchup against Gabriel Bonfim suggests that Muhammad’s days as a true contender are likely over, given the significant drop in competition level. Gabriel Bonfim is riding a five-fight win streak and now leaps in competition level as he fights his first-ever former champion. Bonfim can cause problems for Muhammad stylistically, being dangerous as both a striker and a grappler, but Bonfim will likely want to keep the fight standing. Bonfim also has great takedown defense, posting a 76% takedown defense rate for his career. Belal Muhammad has struggled against opponents he can’t take down. If Bonfim’s takedown defense holds up, then the struggles for Muhammad will continue on Saturday night.Final Prediction – Gabriel Bonfim via Unanimous DecisionMORE: UFC power rankings entering June 2026Brendan Allen vs Edmen Shahbazyan (Middleweight)Oct 18, 2025; Vancouver, BC, CANADA; Brendan Allen (blue gloves) reacts after the fight against Reinier De Ridder (red gloves) during UFC Fight Night at Rogers Arena. Mandatory Credit: Simon Fearn-Imagn ImagesBrendan Allen is coming off the biggest win of his career, against a former top-five opponent in Reiner De Ridder, and what does he get for his next fight? A co-main event against unranked Edmen Shahbazyan in the UFC Apex, where no one watches. Truly one of the weirder matchmaking situations in recent memory, but as far as the fight itself, it’s a mismatch. Brenden Allen is an elite grappler. Allen has 14 career wins via submission, and Edmen Shahbazyan has historically struggled against high-level grapplers. Brenden Allen will likely be able to control Shahbazyan on the mat. Shahbazyan has only been submitted once, but his struggles against grapplers stem mainly from his inability to get back to his feet. Final Prediction – Brenden Allen via Unanimous DecisionFares Ziam vs Tom Nolan (Lightweight)Dec 6, 2025; Las Vegas, Nevada, UNITED STATES; Fares Ziam (blue gloves) reacts after the fight against Nazim Sadykhov (red gloves) during UFC 323 at T-Mobile Arena. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn ImagesFares Ziam is one of the most exciting strikers in the lightweight division. Ziam uses his long frame to pick his opponents apart from the outside. Luckily for UFC fans who don’t enjoy grappling, Tom Nolan is also a very fun striker. Nolan is newer in the UFC, now 4-1 since joining in 2024. Now he faces his toughest test yet, a ranked lightweight who is also a phenomenal striker, and will have the reach advantage over Nolan. Ziam has a great track record against strikers, and that won’t stop here. This fight should be non-stop action from the first bell. Final Prediction – Fares Ziam via 2nd round KOBryce Mitchell vs Santiago Luna (Bantamweight)Dec 16, 2023; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; Bryce Mitchell during UFC 296 at T-Mobile Arena. Mandatory Credit: Stephen R. Sylvanie-Imagn ImagesBryce Mitchell will make his second walk to the octagon since moving down to the Bantamweight division. Mitchell comes in with much more UFC experience and finds himself in the classic “veteran vs prospect” type of matchup. The prospect Mitchell will face is undefeated Santiago Luna. Luna takes this fight on short notice after Victor Henry had to pull out. With a Greco-Roman Wrestling background, Luna should play into Bryce Mitchell’s game. Mitchell is always more comfortable on the ground with his grappling, hunting for submissions. Luna has only one UFC fight under his belt and eight total pro MMA fights, and while he’s undefeated, he’s raw and lacks experience. Final Prediction – Bryce Mitchell via 3rd round SubmissionIwo Baraniewski vs Junior Tafa (Light Heavyweight)Mar 21, 2026; London,UNITED KINGDOM; Iwo Baraniewski (red gloves) reacts after defeating Austen Lane (blue gloves) during UFC Fight Night at O2 Arena. Mandatory Credit: Peter van den Berg-Imagn ImagesIwo Baraniewski made his UFC debut earlier this year and knocked out Austen Lane in 28 seconds. Junior Tafa is taking this fight on roughly two weeks’ notice. To make this prediction as simple as possible, Baraniewski has shown more potential in the UFC in his one fight than Tafa has in his whole UFC career.Final Prediction – Iwo Baraniewski via Round one TKO0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

APNEWS.COMRussian teenager Mirra Andreeva wins French Open to claim first Grand Slam titleRussia's Mirra Andreeva reacts after winning the semifinal tennis match against Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk at the French Open in Paris, Thursday, June 4, 2026. (AP Photo/Thibault Camus)2026-06-06T12:24:10Z PARIS (AP) — Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva was already a tennis phenom at age 15.At 19, she’s a Grand Slam champion. The eighth-ranked Andreeva ended the run of 114th-ranked Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska by 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open final on Saturday.Andreeva became the youngest player to win the women’s singles title since Monica Seles, who was 18 when she landed her third straight French Open in 1992.“You’re so young and talented. It’s so annoying,” Chwalinska told Andreeva during the awards ceremony. When Andreeva executed a backhand cross-court winner on her first match point, she threw her racket into the air and dropped on her knees to the clay to celebrate.During the trophy presentation, Andreeva took the unusual step of thanking herself “for believing in myself, always giving my 100%, even when it’s tough, trying every day to be better as a person and as a player, believing that I can do this, fighting so many demons inside of me. “Only I know how tough it was for me,” Andreeva added. “How nervous I was throughout these two weeks.”Chwalinska was attempting to become the first qualifier to capture the Roland Garros title. Andreeva was born Siberia and moved to Sochi and eventually France to develop her tennis career. She drew a loud applause from the crowd on Court Philippe-Chatrier when she spoke a few words of French during the trophy presentation. Read More “Thanks for your support today and over these past two marvellous weeks here in Paris,” Andreeva said. “It was very important for me.”Alexander Zverev plays Flavio Cobolli in the men’s final on Sunday to conclude the wildest Grand Slam in recent memory. Breakthrough at 15Andreeva has been considered a Grand Slam contender since she burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old at the 2023 Madrid Open, where she became the third youngest player to win a main draw match at a WTA 1000 tournament and made the quarterfinals.Lately, Andreeva has had to contend with playing under neutral status and without her country’s flag due to the war with Ukraine. When she beat Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals, Kostyuk refused to shake her hand, as has been the custom for Ukrainian players facing Russians ever since the war started in 2022.Andreeva has gone a step further than her coach, Conchita Martinez, who lost the 2000 French Open final to Mary Pierce.Pierce presented the winner’s trophy to Andreeva.Polish fan supportThe final was played under mostly sunny skies but wind was a factor in the first Grand Slam final for both player.Chwalinska double-faulted on the opening point of the match but she was the first player to hold serve in the fifth game for a 3-2 lead. But then Andreeva won nine stright games to take control as she found a way to hit through the wind and answer Chwalinska’s array of spins and drop shots.Andreeva produced 25 winners to Chwalinska’s 10 and also had fewer unforced errors: 26 to 29.There was a strong Polish presence in the crowd. When Chwalinska was introduced, fans held aloft red-and-white Polish flags and chanted her name: “Ma-ja, Ma-ja.”Andreeva had little support from the crowd, although there was a shout of “Davai Mirra!” (“Go Mirra”) in Russian late in the match. Men’s doublesIn men’s doubles, top-seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos retained their title with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten.___AP Sports Writer Samuel Petrequin contributed to this report.___AP tennis: https://apnews.com/hub/tennis ANDREW DAMPF Dampf has been a Rome-based sports writer at The AP for more than 20 years, covering soccer, tennis, Alpine skiing and many other events in Italy and beyond, including five soccer World Cups and 10 Olympics. twitter0 Commentaires 0 Parts 42 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMCeltics Still 'Paying Price' For Winning Title, Fans 'Should Be' AppreciativeCeltics Still 'Paying Price' For Winning Title, Fans 'Should Be' Appreciative originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. Are you a Boston Celtics fan who's disappointed that your team blew a 3-1 lead in the first round of the NBA Playoffs to an inferior team? Stop acting so spoiled. Are you upset about a first-round exit after being given the top odds to win the Eastern Conference at the beginning of the playoffs? Your privilege is showing. That's what so-called "cap expert" Ryan Bernardoni would have you believe. He joined Chris Forsberg on the "Celtics Talk" podcast to discuss what he believes is a Celtics season that exceeded expectations. "The Celtics are paying the price for winning the title, which every single fan should be absolutely happy to pay," Bernardoni said. "You look around the league, this is a really hard part of the rebuild to navigate."He points to the fact that the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets have struggled to replicate success after winning their respective titles. Which is an understandably easy position to take. In a league whose history is dominated by dynasties and repeat championship runs, 2026 will be the ninth straight season that a unique champion will be crowned. There has not been a back-to-back winner since the 2017-18 Golden State Warriors. But Boston was in a perfect position to at least make another run at a Finals appearance. Losing in the first round to that Philadelphia 76ers team is unacceptable; it does not matter how recently you have won a title.More NBA: Celtics Get Positive Giannis Antetokounmpo Update In Latest Report0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBrowns GM Andrew Berry’s inner circle has successful brain trust from other sportsOKLAHOMA CITY, OK - JUNE 22: General Manager Sam Presti of the Oklahoma City Thunder embraces team owner Clay Bennett after Game Seven of the 2025 NBA Finals on June 22, 2025 at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mandatory Copyright Notice: Copyright 2025 NBAE (Photo by /NBAE via Getty Images) | NBAE via Getty Images Because of the unique time in the sports calendar when it happened, the Cleveland Browns trade of DE Myles Garrett happened quickly and has lingered in our consciousness without much to move it forward. New Browns DE Jared Verse attended OTAs and spoke to the media, as did Garrett with the Los Angeles Rams, but the big move happened at a time with not much other action going on.Since the trade, we’ve learned that Verse really was the key to the trade happening, that GM Andrew Berry made sure a clause was added to try to keep Garrett out of the AFC North, and it gave us time to review the three biggest trades the Browns have made in the last year plus.Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated also documented how the trade went down over time between Cleveland and Los Angeles. One interesting note from Breer’s piece is that Berry has a “think tank” of executives from other sports that he processes things with:Berry is part of a sort of think tank/buddy group of executives across sports that includes St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti and Pittsburgh Penguins GM Kyle Dubas. And both Bloom and Presti had been in Berry’s shoes. Both Bloom and Presti seemed to reinforce Berry’s goal of bringing back more than just draft picks when trading away Garrett, referencing their trades of Paul George and Mookie Betts previously. The three teams represented in the “buddy group” are generally well-respected, successful teams. The Thunder won the NBA title last year, the Penguins have had winning records in all but one of the last two decades (including a Stanley Cup), and the Red Sox are one of the biggest names in MLB (despite missing the playoffs in three of the last five seasons), including two World Series titles since 2013.In many ways, Berry’s Browns are the outlier of the group when it comes to success on the field/court/ice.What do you think about Berry being involved with the other 3 more successful sports executives in this “thinktank/buddy group”? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLewis Hamilton Says Ferrari “Lost Something” Going Into Monaco GP Qualifying, Despite P3 FinishScuderia Ferrari Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton secured a P3 start for the Monaco Grand Prix after setting the third fastest time behind Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen. However, he was quick to note, “We lost something going into today,” and that was something Ferrari will have to figure out overnight.Hamilton seemed confident with the setup on his SF-26 F1 car, and as a result, his team barely made any changes to ensure the car remained the way the Briton wanted it. However, despite that, he emphasized that the car was very different during the qualifying session, something Ferrari was looking into.Hamilton likely felt the car was capable of securing pole position when he said something was lost going into the qualifying, hinting at a slight drop in performance that led to a P3 rather than a P1.May 3, 2026; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton (44) before the Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix at Miami International Autodrome. Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn ImagesSpeaking after the qualifying session with Jenson Button, Hamilton started by congratulating Kimi on his first pole in Monaco. He said:“Well, congrats to Kimi, mega, mega job. Having your first pole here is so, so special. And obviously, we’ve got such a great crowd here, so it’s a beautiful day.”Hamilton mentioned how his car felt different despite the setup being unchanged:“We were looking so strong in practice, and we barely changed anything, but the car was drastically different once we got to qualifying for some reason. So we had to take a deep dive into that, but I gave it absolutely everything. I was as close to the barriers as I could be, and you know, what a privilege it is to be here, to be one of the 22 drivers in Formula One getting to do this. I love every second of it.”The qualifying session was intense as the gap between the cars was extremely tight, leading Button to mention that he had never witnessed something like that in the past.Hamilton acknowledged the level of competition and highlighted that his team had some homework to do. He said:“I think it is definitely very, very quick. Close between us all…..Max put in a good time and Kimi. I think it’s great to see how close all the cars are. I think we lost something going into today, and that’s what we need to try to figure out. “But a big thank you to the guys back at the factory and the guys here, you know. We haven’t had the peak performance this weekend, but we’re obviously there in the fight, and I’m really keen and looking forward to seeing what developments we bring in the future.”0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBoston Celtics Derrick White on the challenge of guarding Victor WembanyamaThe hardest part of defending San Antonio Spurs star big man Victor Wembanyama is that there has never been a player quite like him in the history of the NBA. But Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White has squared off with the Spurs star a few times, and had some limited success despite the absurd height disparity between the two (Wembanyama is over a foot taller than White).Still, speaking on a recent episode of the "Run it Back" podcast, the Colorado native shared how he approaches covering the Frenchman. "I think you want to be physical," White said, "but we've never really seen someone that is that size that can handle, can shoot from the perimeter.""So if you want to put a big on him, then he's going to take him to the perimeter and you're going to have to guard him out there," he added. "If you want to guard him with a small, then he can just throw it up to him and let him beat you tall, and so he's one of a kind," suggested White. "I'm not exactly sure who the (New York) Knicks will throw on him (in the 2026 NBA Finals).""I'm sure (Karl-Anthony Towns) might start on him, maybe probably OG (Anunoby) will get a lot of time too, and those guys are going to have their hands full definitely trying to figure it out. But I think being physical is the solution to every star ... you've just got to be physical with them, and so I think that's what everybody's going to try."Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on:Blue Wire: https://tiny.ee/CdKpiTunes: https://tiny.ee/RK47YouTube: https://tiny.ee/cOW3This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Celtics Derrick White on the challenge of guarding Victor Wembanyama0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

I want my club back."I love the people that have supported me. All I can ask is that they support me through this time. "I hope the whole of Macclesfield gets behind me and we pull together and put me back into a position where I feel that I actually belong."Cheshire Constanbulary said: "On Tuesday 19 May a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour in Wilmslow."He has since been bailed pending further enquiries."'Unsettling'Macclesfield's statement, released on behalf of its board of directors, said: "Macclesfield FC are aware of reports circulating regarding the position of Robert Smethurst within the football club."In light of these, Mr Smethurst has temporarily been relieved of all duties associated with the club whilst legal guidance is sought."With this in mind, it would be improper to divulge any further information at this time."Whereas we can completely and unequivocally understand that these reports will be unsettling, the board of directors would like to assure everyone of their belief that they are wholeheartedly acting within the best interests of the club and in a bid to safeguard its continued success."We would politely ask everyone not to engage in speculation at this time, and further comment will be made as soon as we are able to."Smethurst bought the club out of insolvency in 2020 and installed former manager Robbie Savage, but has since diluted his shareholding.Listen to the best of BBC Radio Manchester on Sounds and follow BBC Manchester on Facebook, X, and Instagram. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMVictor Wembanyama confesses he’s ‘very blurry’ after late-game blunders sink SpursPhoto by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesVictor Wembanyama did not hide from the moment after Game 2, admitting the final possessions became too chaotic when the Spurs needed control most.San Antonio lost 105-104 to the New York Knicks on Friday, falling into a 2-0 hole in the NBA Finals after another painful finish. The numbers showed Wembanyama still impacted the game, but the ending told the bigger story. The Spurs needed poise, and their franchise star knew he did not provide enough of it.Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty ImagesVictor Wembanyama blurry admission explains Spurs Game 2 collapseIn comments shared by Underdog NBA, Wembanyama admitted the late-game sequence was still difficult for him to process after the loss.“I’m still very blurry, and that’s the whole problem. I need to have more poise, more control over the game.”That was not a throwaway postgame answer. Wembanyama was pointing directly at the final stretch, when San Antonio had a real chance to level the series and failed to close. The biggest mistake came with the score tied at 104-104. Wembanyama tried to move the ball forward, but his pass hit teammate Stephon Castle in the back and bounced loose.Jalen Brunson then split a pair of free throws to put New York ahead, before Wembanyama missed a contested look on San Antonio’s final possession.Victor Wembanyama stats show promise and pressure before Game 3Wembanyama finished Game 2 with 29 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks in 40 minutes. He shot 11-of-21 from the field and 2-of-6 from three, a clear efficiency jump from Game 1, when he had 26 points and 12 rebounds but shot 6-of-21 and committed six turnovers. The problem is that the Finals now judge him by the closing possession, not just the full stat line. Wembanyama understood that when he said he threw the game away and would use the regret as fuel.Game 3 now becomes a serious test. The Spurs face the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday, June 8, with New York already leading 2-0.For Wembanyama, the next step is not proving he has talent. Everyone knows that. It is proving he can slow the moment down when the whole series starts speeding up.Read more:Charles Barkley claims Victor Wembanyama is ‘spinning’ as Karl-Anthony Towns takes control of NBA FinalsVictor Wembanyama admits he regrets crucial late-game mistake that led to Spurs Game 2 Finals lossVictor Wembanyama proved Charles Barkley’s vicious halftime take wrong despite losing Game 2 vs. Knicks0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Look at the form': Ajit Agarkar's blunt explanation for Suryakumar Yadav T20 exitNEW DELHI: Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to remove Suryakumar Yadav as India's T20I captain was not taken lightly, stressing that selectors reassessed the team's direction after the 2026 T20 World Cup while also considering the next cycle leading up to the 2028 edition.BCCI announced a major change in Indian men's T20I setup on Saturday, handing the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. Suryakumar not only lost the captaincy but was also left out of the squad.Explaining the move, Agarkar said Shreyas' leadership record and recent performances made him the standout candidate for the role.“With regards to Shreyas, we have seen what he has done over the last few years, leading different franchises,” chief selector Ajit Agarkar told media after announcing the squads for various tours.“(He) won the final once, and from there a tougher season this year after a great start. We have seen everything that a captain possibly can (handle). His own performances have been really good."“He was quite close to getting into the (T20) World Cup squad as well. With Surya still there, there was no room for him, so he is in my opinion a stand-out candidate with enough experience now having led in the T20 format; this is obviously a different challenge,” Agarkar added.Shreyas returns to India's T20I squad for the first time since a match against Australia in Bengaluru on December 3, 2023. His captaincy credentials include leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title in 2024 and guiding Punjab Kings to the IPL final in 2025.Agarkar said Suryakumar's recent form was one of the factors behind the change, though not the only one.“With regards to Surya, obviously it's a tough one having just won the (T20) World Cup. But as it happens after most World Cups, we try and reassess what your best way forward is,” Agarkar said. Also read: 'Challenges ahead' - Suryakumar Yadav breaks silence after India snub “You look at the form in the last two years but he was doing well as a captain (of India). We did not deliberate a lot but at some stage we were going to look ahead,” Agarkar added.“(It was due to) partly his own form but also looking at the next two-year cycle, or a little bit more than two years now till the next World Cup, we thought this was the best way forward and like I said, Shreyas is a very deserving captain.""We deliberated on it a lot, especially when someone has led you to a World Cup win. It's not the easiest sort of discussion to have, but I don't necessarily think... at some stage, we were going to look at it. Now, whether IPL form dictated it; I'm not so sure that's the case. There were always conversations around it," he added.India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 before taking on England in a five-match T20I series from July 1 to 11.Meanwhile, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was included in the squad, becoming the youngest player ever selected for an Indian team. He broke the record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2027 five-star DL recruit Jalen Brewster announces Longhorns visitAs Longhorns football continues preparing for the 2026 campaign, they are also busy on the recruiting front. This weekend, they are welcoming five-star recruit Jalen Brewster to campus. The best defensive lineman has already committed to Texas Tech, but he has not closed the door on other schools. Currently, Brewster is ranked as the top defensive lineman in the 2027 class by 247Sports. They also rank the Cedar High star as the sixth-best player in the nation and the second-best player from Texas. That ranking is partly why he has received offers from some of the top programs in the nation, such as Miami, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Florida. NEW: Texas Tech Five-Star Plus+ DL commit Jalen Brewster will take an official visit to Texas this weekend, @InsideTexas reports🤘Details: https://t.co/mN5zVEnRlBpic.twitter.com/ja6mmmQIcT— Rivals (@Rivals) June 4, 2026Over the last few months, Brewster has been busy visiting schools nationwide. He has made trips to LSU and Indiana. The Longhorns target has also taken a few unofficial visits to Florida. Shortly after he visits Texas, Brewster is expected to return to Texas Tech on June 19th. If the Longhorns can flip Brewster, their 2026 class would get a massive boost. At the moment, it includes one five-star recruit in Jermaine Bishop. He will be joined by multiple four-star prospects such as Dia Bell, Tyler Atkinson, Kosi Okpala, Richard Wesley, Derek Cooper, and Samara Matthews. That group already has high expectations, even though their college careers haven't started yet. No. 1 DL Jalen Brewster on his #Texas OV. He made two trips to Austin last year before committing to Texas Tech. Now, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will have another chance to make their best pitch. They hope it ends with a commitment from the game-changing lineman. While it will not be easy to flip Brewster, it is a good sign for Texas that he is willing to visit campus. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAgarkar drops bombshell, reveals Shreyas Iyer was 'quite close' to India's T20 World Cup squadIndian cricket's T20 setup has entered a new phase, with Shreyas Iyer appointed captain for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, while teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has earned a historic maiden call-up.At just 15 years and 71 days old, Sooryavanshi has become the youngest player ever selected for an Indian team, breaking a record that had stood since Sachin Tendulkar's debut in 1989. Tendulkar was 16 years and 205 days old when he made his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi.India's T20 campaign begins with two matches in Ireland on June 26 and 28 before the team heads to England for a five-match series from July 1 to 11.The squad announcement also marks Shreyas' return to India's T20 setup for the first time since the series against Australia in December 2023. His elevation to the captaincy comes after several successful years as a leader in franchise cricket and consistent performances with the bat.Explaining the decision, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said: "With regards to Shreyas, we have seen what he has done over the last few years, leading different franchises."(He) won the final once, and from there a tougher season this year after a great start. We have seen everything that a captain possibly can (handle). His own performances have been really good."He was quite close to getting into the (T20) World Cup squad as well. With Surya still there, there was no room for him, so he is in my opinion a stand-out candidate with enough experience now having led in the T20 format; this is obviously a different challenge."Iyer's leadership credentials have been strengthened by guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title in 2024 and taking Punjab Kings to the final in 2025. Combined with his strong batting returns over the last two seasons, those performances convinced selectors that he was the right man to lead India's next T20 cycle. The decision, however, comes at the expense of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite leading India to the 2026 T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar has not only lost the captaincy but also his place in the squad.Addressing the move, Agarkar said: "With regards to Surya, obviously it's a tough one having just won the (T20) World Cup. But as it happens after most World Cups, we try and reassess what your best way forward is."(It was due to) partly his own form but also looking at the next two-year cycle, or a little bit more than two years now till the next World Cup, we thought this was the best way forward and like I said, Shreyas is a very deserving captain."We deliberated on it a lot, especially when someone has led you to a World Cup win. It's not the easiest sort of discussion to have, but I don't necessarily think... at some stage, we were going to look at it. Now, whether IPL form dictated it; I'm not so sure that's the case. There were always conversations around it."With a new captain in place and the youngest player in Indian cricket history joining the squad, the selectors have signalled a clear shift in direction as preparations begin for the next T20 World Cup cycle. 1315542290 Commentaires 0 Parts 40 Vue 0 Avis
