SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAs FIFA entices a new generation of fans, a Brazil influencer's platform will stream all 104 gamesGUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — In Brazil, home of soccer-mad fans and the five-time world champions, the only way to watch all 104 games of the World Cup will be through a streaming platform anchored by an influencer. Elsewhere, users will get to see parts of matches live on YouTube and TikTok for the first time. Forget about the exclusivity of traditional over-the-air networks: The World Cup will be watched differently this time.As FIFA pushes to engage a new generation of fans, younger audiences will have more options to access soccer’s showcase event thanks to what soccer's governing body describes as a record number of deals with broadcast partners that carry digital-only platforms. Creators’ perspectives will be brought to the forefront and user experiences worldwide will be enhanced thanks to what FIFA is calling “game-changing” partnerships. The goal is to grab viewers' attention, effectively giving them an appetizer that will encourage them to go back and watch the games on traditional channels.Co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, this year's World Cup — the biggest ever, with 48 teams — begins Thursday and will run through July 19.Brazil’s CazéTV has the rights to all gamesBrazil historically has been one of the countries with the most engagement on social media and digital platforms.FIFA took notice, and four years ago did a type of a test run with popular streamer Casimiro Miguel, now 32, who had shown success engaging with younger sports fans on his Twitch channel. For the 2022 Qatar World Cup, FIFA reached a deal with him — and his partner LiveMode — to broadcast 22 matches on the CazéTV YouTube channel. With a more informal and conversational approach to the broadcast, along with increased fan engagement and the participation of content creators as commentators, the trial was considered a resounding success. It led to an expanded deal for the tournament this year, with CazéTV becoming the only channel — digital or traditional — with rights to all 104 games in Brazil. The network Globo, the home of soccer in Brazil for decades, will show 55 games.“FIFA is always looking at innovative ways about how to enhance the broadcast coverage of our flagship competitions and the deal with CazéTV is an example of such, which will ensure football fans in Brazil will be able to watch all 104 games, while also helping to reach new audiences and demographics,” the governing body told The Associated Press in a statement.A Cristiano Ronaldo connectionLiveMode, the Brazilian company that has CazéTV under its umbrella and broadcasts matches with content creators, announced last month that it had launched an international broadcast arm of the company and that Cristiano Ronaldo was one of its shareholders.LiveMode's channel in Portugal will broadcast one game per day during the World Cup, including all of Portugal's matches and the final. The 41-year-old Ronaldo, one of soccer's all-time greats, is making his sixth World Cup appearance with the national team.“There is an audience that connects with digital first, and digital allows us to bring this new audience to follow major sporting events,” LiveMode co-founder Sergio Lopes told the AP. “Generally, this audience is younger and doesn’t just want to watch a match. They want to participate in the conversation, interact in real time, and feel like they are part of a community.”YouTube and TikTok dealsFIFA earlier this year picked TikTok as the first “preferred platform” for video content on social media at the World Cup, giving creators access to content. World Cup broadcast rights holders can livestream parts of the 104 games at a dedicated hub on the TikTok app. Then in March, FIFA reached a deal with YouTube to also allow rights-holding broadcasters to stream game action live on the video platform. Rights holders will be allowed to broadcast the first 10 minutes of games. “YouTube is where global sports fans tune in before, during, and after the game. That is what makes our preferred partnership with FIFA for World Cup 2026 so unique,” said Angela Courtin, YouTube's vice president of entertainment and sports marketing. “Between the incredible reach of our creator cohort and providing FIFA’s media partners with a pathway to upload more premium content to their YouTube channels, plus our live YouTube FIFA Creator Cup in New York City this July, we are ushering in the next generation of soccer fans for years to come.” Taking aim at world recordsWith the new deals, FIFA expects the 2026 World Cup to break all records related to digital and streaming audiences. In 2022, FIFA reported 5 billion total engagements during the tournament in Qatar, with 2.7 billion coming through digital and streaming services, and 2.9 from linear television. Nearly 1.5 billion people watched the final won by Argentina, with 237 million of them being digital-only viewers, according to FIFA.In the U.S., Fox holds the rights for the 2026 World Cup, and there were no exclusive deals by FIFA with digital platforms, though the network will have every match streaming live and on-demand within its apps. Streaming giant Netflix has secured the U.S. broadcasting rights to the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031, in the most significant deal FIFA has signed with a streaming service for a major tournament. “We are seeing that sport needs to occupy all screens, engage with all audiences to grow,” LiveModeTV co-founder Lopes said. “New audiences expect authenticity, interaction and different ways to follow an event. The World Cup continues to be the greatest sporting spectacle on the planet, but the way to experience it is also becoming more social, more participatory, more accessible, and more connected to the digital habits of each generation.”___AP World Cup coverage: https://apnews.com/hub/fifa-world-cup0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMLeeds United join the race for Ousmane DiomandeLeeds United join the race for Ousmane DiomandeLeeds United have entered the race for Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande, with reports suggesting they are prepared to break their club transfer record to land the highly rated Ivorian. The Whites have identified the 22-year-old as a key target to strengthen their defence following an impressive Premier League return under Daniel Farke. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the Elland Road hierarchy are willing to go to great lengths to secure Diomande’s signature.Leeds are reportedly preparing an opening offer worth £43.1 million, which, if accepted, would eclipse the club-record £36m paid for the services of Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim in January 2023. Sporting are believed to be open to formal negotiations around this figure, viewing it as an acceptable starting point despite Diomande’s £69m release clause. Leeds’ pursuit of Diomande signals a major statement of intent, as they look to leapfrog several long-term suitors, including Arsenal. The Gunners have monitored Diomande for several seasons but have so far hesitated to make a move, leaving the door open for Leeds to capitalise. Signing a defender of Diomande’s pedigree would immediately strengthen Farke’s tactical setup, though it raises questions about the long-term futures of current defensive regulars Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon. The Ivorian’s blend of physical dominance and composure in deep build-up play makes him an ideal fit. Any deal for Diomande is likely to face a short delay, as he is currently on international duty with the Ivory Coast ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAncelotti marks birthday as Spike Lee visits Brazil World Cup trainingSpike Lee wears Brazil colours as he attends the team's training session in New Jersey (Mauro PIMENTEL)Brazil players gave coach Carlo Ancelotti a guard of honour for his birthday at a pre-World Cup training session Wednesday attended by Spike Lee.The entire Brazil squad, with the exception of the injured Neymar, welcomed the smiling Ancelotti out onto the pitch at the team's base, the New York Red Bulls training facility in suburban New Jersey.Ancelotti was marking his 67th birthday, three days before the Italian leads the record five-time World Cup winners into their opening match at this year's tournament against Morocco at the MetLife Stadium.Veteran filmmaker Lee, 69, then appeared as a surprise spectator, wearing a Brazil top and cap."I want Brazil to win," insisted Lee, who called Neymar "my man".Brazil's all-time record scorer has not played for his country since 2023 due to injuries and is struggling to be fit for the start of the World Cup as he recovers from a calf problem.Lee, meanwhile, said he would not be hanging around as he planned to head back into Manhattan to attend the fourth game of the NBA finals later Wednesday."I'm here just for the practice, I have a game to see tonight," said Lee, whose beloved New York Knicks host the San Antonio Spurs as they defend a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.raa/ma/as/gj0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMSomeone stole my Pride flag 3 times. This anonymous letter from a neighbor brought me to tears. As I walked into my front yard, I noticed that the LGBTQIA-inclusive Pride flag I had hung on my garage was missing once again, for the third time in less than eight months. Coming from the depths of my soul, I looked up into the sky and let out a howl that scattered birds from an adjacent tree. On the first occasion that I found my flag missing, I sank into a depression that lasted a few days, for the flag was not merely a piece of polyester cloth waving in the western Massachusetts breeze, but it represented an important part of my intersecting identities and the larger community that I love. Related People still ask me why we need Pride. The answer could not be simpler. I bought and hung another Pride Flag on my garage door, and soon thereafter, someone stole it once again. By the second theft, though, the rage began to bubble to the surface. I cursed silently to myself and vowed not to let whoever was responsible for the theft get inside my head. Dive deeper every day Join our newsletter for thought-provoking commentary that goes beyond the surface of LGBTQ+ issues Subscribe to our Newsletter today I bought and hung a third flag. Yes, I understand that a definition of “insanity” is doing something over and over again and expecting different results. Actually, I don’t expect different results, but I wanted to send a message to the thieves and to my neighbors who support the First Amendment: I will not be intimidated. However, after the third time, I took direct action. First, I called the local police department and filed a complaint, which the officer who answered the phone promised would be added to the town’s stolen property record. I then walked to the home of a neighbor who works at our local middle school. I instinctively did so because in 2024, during the presidential election, I created a handmade yard sign announcing, “Harris and Walz,” whose letters I fashioned with a razor knife from glitter paper. I later placed small sparkling lights to illuminate the sign after dark. | Warren Blumenfeld On several occasions, I found my sign turned horizontal to the lawn with telltale small tire tracks on one side. My neighbor across the street informed me that she had seen two boys, who she estimated to be middle school-aged, ramming into the sign on their bicycles. Knowing that my neighbor worked at the middle school, I spoke with her and asked whether she had heard of anyone who might have vandalized my sign. I asked her a similar question about any information she might have about the theft of my Pride flags. Though she was not aware of any possible perpetrators, she informed me she would let me know if she found any information about the crime. Yes, the defacement of my yard sign and theft of my Pride flags are, indeed, crimes much more serious than damage to cardboard and glitter paper and the pilfering of yards of cloth. This third time, I made a banner to notify the thief that no matter how many times they take my flag, there will always be something they can never rob from me. I wrote with glittering stick-on letters: “YOU STOLE MY PRIDE FLAG BUT YOU WILL NOT STEAL MY PRIDE.” | Warren Blumenfeld Yes, our Pride flags are only symbols, but what do they symbolize? Our identities, our histories, our stories, our communities, our very lives. I live in an economically modest, mostly working-class family neighborhood in a rural area of western Massachusetts. People of all ages, from very young to elderly, walk or jog on the sidewalks, some using canes, some pushing baby strollers or walking hand-in-hand with young children, many walking dogs of all breeds. A man who rescued a baby squirrel often takes his pet out for a stroll on a leash and allows local children to feed it small nuts. Our places of residence express many aspects of who we are: our financial status, our architectural and design tastes, and, yes, our religious backgrounds and political affiliations. Many of my neighbors display statues of various sizes depicting the Virgin Mary on a blue half-shell, and residents of one house fly a flag in their front yard featuring Mary holding baby Jesus. Many display Christmas decorations from November through January. My next-door neighbors placed a reclining garden gnome on a tree stump beside their Virgin Mary statue, while others hang tinkling wind chimes or small windmills that turn gently on breezy days. “Old Glory” stands proudly on poles or porches on holidays throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. In addition to my Pride flag, I have also displayed a “Black Lives Matter” banner. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, I made a yard sign on which I painted the Ukrainian flag of blue and yellow, representing the sky above and fields of grain below. Since Trump’s second term, I purchased gold sequin letters and attached “Hands Off” and “No Kings” to my Ukrainian flag sign in protest of the Trump administration’s actions, leading closer to authoritarian rule. More recently, I have displayed a Ukrainian flag, which, until recently, flew next to my Pride flag affixed to my garage. For the most part, except for the three thefts of my Pride flag, I haven’t received much backlash from my neighbors or from people passing by in cars or on the sidewalk. Occasionally, someone will honk their horn in solidarity, or I hear an occasional shout of “you fa***t” or “where’s your American flag” from a speeding automobile. To my surprise, as I was planting flowers in my front yard recently, I found a folded piece of paper attached to something in a plastic bag. I unfolded the paper and found a handwritten letter inside: Hi! You don’t know me and I don’t know you, but I felt compelled to write you this note. Sometimes my runs take me by your house, and your house always makes me smile. It looks happy, warm, and inviting. So earlier this week when I was running by, your newest flag stopped me in my tracks. Why someone would ever steal someone else’s flag is beyond me, especially a flag that symbolizes love and joy. As soon as I got home, I ordered you a replacement, plus a similar flag for my own home. If someone in this community was so mad that they had to take your flag, well than they have two houses to be mad about. I hope this isn’t awkward or overreaching; I just wanted to make sure there are plenty of people in town who want you to feel welcomed and appreciated. Nothing but the very best wishes for you. K | Warren Blumenfeld As I began reading the message, tears blurred my vision so completely that I had to dry my eyes in order to proceed. I don’t know this woman, but I intend to take my dog for a walk around my neighborhood to look for a beautiful heart rainbow flag, which I hung proudly, replacing my previous handmade banner. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMStefon Diggs return not in Patriots’ current plans, says Mike VrabelFOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS - JANUARY 04: Stefon Diggs #8 of the New England Patriots speaks to Head coach Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots in the fourth quarter against the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium on January 04, 2026 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. (Photo by Winslow Townson/Getty Images) | Getty Images Three months after getting released by the New England Patriots, and with his assault case resolved in his favor, Stefon Diggs remains unsigned in free agency. So, would the New England Patriots consider brining the veteran wide receiver back into the fold?According to head coach Mike Vrabel, nothing can be ruled out. However, the Patriots’ current plans at the position look differently.“I think we’re probably at the number that we would need right now,” Vrabel explained ahead of the Patriots’ second practice of mandatory minicamp on Wednesday. “I wouldn’t say anything is off the table. We’d want to add anybody that can help us. I’m not going to give a percentage on it, but I think we’re happy with where we’re at right now, with the the numbers and the people in the receiver room.”A former member of the Vikings, Bills and Texans, Diggs joined the Patriots on an incentive-heavy three-year, $63.5 million deal last offseason. Despite coming off a torn ACL, he became a core member of New England’s passing attack and finished as quarterback Drake Maye’s favorite target. In total, Diggs saw action in all 21 games and was on the receiving end of 99 combined passes for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns. He also took on a leadership role in what was mostly a young wide receiver room.Nonetheless, with his cap number set to spike and legal questions hanging over him, the Patriots decided to cut him in mid-March. Since then, they added free agent Romeo Doubs on a four-year contract and traded a pair of draft picks for A.J. Brown.Nonetheless, Diggs remained a popular name linked to the franchise. And while Vrabel did not close the door entirely, he also made the Patriots’ position clear at this point in time.“I appreciate Stefon as a person and as a player, and what he did for us last year,” the reigning NFL Coach of the Year said. “I value that. Helped us win football games. Helped us get to where we got. But right now, I don’t think that’s something that we’re exploring. But I would never say no.”0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

The 34-year-old star was selected for the team but suffered a calf injury and may miss the start of the World Cup. But even if he can't go, this game still has a lot of intrigue. It's the first World Cup game for Brazil under coach Carlo Ancelotti, and it comes against a team that just won the African Cup of Nations (in controversial fashion) and made it to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentNetherlands vs. Japan (June 14)The winner of Group F could be decided in the first match. And don't automatically assume that this is a group that's the Netherlands' to lose. Japan was a steamroller in Asian qualifying and has made the Round of 16 in each of the past two World Cups. Both teams should move on to the knockout rounds thanks to the expanded World Cup's format, and we're intrigued to see if they will be content for a tie or go for the win.France vs. Senegal (June 16)The 2022 runners-up open the tournament against a Senegal team that has plenty of talent to make a deep run in the knockout rounds. Morocco's controversial AFCON win we mentioned above? That came at the expense of Senegal, who had won the game in penalty kicks after leaving the field in a mass protest over officiating decisions in extra time. Months later, the Confederation of African Football ruled that Senegal officially forfeited the game by leaving the field, and gave Morocco a 3-0 win.England vs. Croatia (June 17)The first 2026 game for each team is a rematch of a 2018 semifinal that Croatia won 2-1 in extra time. The Croatians are again led by 40-year-old Luka Modric and 37-year-old Ivan Perisic, though Modric may may play more of a supporting role this time around. He came off the bench four times in Croatia's eight qualifiers. England is one of the favorites to win the World Cup, and whether or not the English finally break their World Cup drought will likely come down to how its wingers can advance beyond striker Harry Kane when he drops deep to collect possession.Mexico vs. South Korea (June 18)On paper, this is the toughest group stage game for Mexico as Group A also includes South Africa and Czechia. South Korea is led by former Tottenham star and current LAFC forward Son Heung-Min, and also features Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-Jae. The South Koreans easily made it through Asian qualifying with no losses across 16 games.Germany vs. Ecuador (June 25)Four years after crashing out in the World Cup group stage, Germany should move on. After all, 32 of the 48 teams at this expanded World Cup will advance. But how will the Germans break down an Ecuador team that will certainly hunker down and look to strike on the counter? Across 18 CONMEBOL qualifying games, Ecuador allowed just five goals. Paraguay and Argentina were the second-stingiest teams in South America. They each allowed 10 goals.Türkiye vs. United States (June 25)Will this game determine who finishes first and second in Group D? Türkiye snuck into the World Cup via UEFA's knockout rounds but they are a much stronger side than you'd normally find in Pot 4. There's a case to be made that Türkiye is the best team in the group. The U.S., meanwhile, should be 2-0 heading into this game. Paraguay and Australia are far from gimmes, but anything less than victories against those teams on home soil is a disappointment.Norway vs. France (June 26)Is this the game of the group stage? With all due respect to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, this may be the tournament's matchup of star strikers with Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Norway was a machine in qualifying and could present problems for a French team that isn't too keen on pressing. How will France slow down Haaland? And will Norway have enough talent at the back to keep up with Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and the rest of France's attack?Uruguay vs. Spain (June 26)There's a chance this game could ultimately mean very little. With Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde also in Group H, both Spain and Uruguay have a very clear path to finishing in the top two. But there's a genuine reward for winning the group and Uruguay would be smart to push Spain for first place if possible. The second-place team in Group H will play the second-place team in Group L in the Round of 32. There's a chance that team could be England, but most likely Croatia, Ghana or Panama. The winner of the group plays the second-place team in Group J. If you assume Argentina is the runaway winner of J, then that team will be Algeria, Austria or Jordan.Colombia vs. Portugal (June 27)How far can James Rodriguez carry Colombia? The 34-year-old has been a magician for his national team at the World Cup. For Portugal, just how much will 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo play? Portugal couldn't fathom leaving Ronaldo home for the World Cup, but it might also be a better team without him on the field. Barring an upset or two, these are the two best teams in Group K.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMKieran McKenna steps down as Ipswich Town boss in shock decisionKieran McKenna has stepped down as Ipswich Town head coach to take a break from football. The 40-year-old coach, who had just guided the Tractor Boys back to the Premier League, had been heavily linked with Fulham after Marco Silva’s departure. Yet McKenna will not take up that job, nor another job, in the near future as he steps away from the spotlight to focus on spending time with his family. Following confirmation of his departure, Kieran McKenna said: “It is with a mixture of gratitude, pride, sadness and contentment that I have decided to step down from the honour of managing this historic football club. “When you have the connection that we have built at this club there is never a good time to say goodbye. However, having achieved a second promotion to the Premier League last season, with another memorable final day in our stadium, and after reflection over the last couple of weeks, I feel this is the right time for me to step aside. “I do so with great pride at the incredible progress we have made and with huge hope and optimism for the future of the club. “To manage this club has been an absolute privilege. Over the last five seasons we have been on an incredible journey that has brought so many of the best experiences in my professional and personal life. “After giving so much to the role over the previous five seasons, I now look forward to taking a break from management and dedicating some time to my family, who have been with me every step of my career so far.”Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna during a victory parade in Ipswich (PA)McKenna continued to thank Mark Ashton and the Board for giving him the opportunity “to manage such a massive football club, and for the unwavering support and trust they have shown ever since” as well as thank his coaching staff. He concluded: “Most importantly, thank you to the amazing fans and supporters of Ipswich Town. You have followed this football club through wonderful highs and difficult lows. “I will be forever grateful for the way that you welcomed myself and my family, both to the football club and to the county of Suffolk. I will cherish the memories that we have shared together for the rest of my life. “Ipswich Town will always have a special place in our hearts.”McKenna was appointed Ipswich Town manager in December 2021, having previously assisted the likes of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his time coaching at Manchester United. He went on to manage 222 games for the Tractor Boys and achieved promotion from League One and promotion to the Premier League twice.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWorld Cup Tickets Cost More Than a Monthly Mortgage Payment in These 5 Host CitiesThe World Cup kicks off Thursday in Mexico City, and fans are paying hefty prices to be a part of the action. FIFA estimates that between 5 million and 6 million fans will attend the six-week tournament, which takes place in 16 cities across North America.Among the 11 U.S. host cities, in five of them the least expensive tickets for matches are more expensive than the typical monthly mortgage for that market, according to a new analysis from real estate research company PropertyShark.Fans attending matches in Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, Kansas City, and the World Cup Final in New York can expect to pay the equivalent of a monthly mortgage payment or more for the thrill of experiencing the action in person. The World Cup only takes place once every four years, and draws avid fans from around the globe, which may be why ticket prices for matches tend to soar.Games are also being held across Canada and Mexico, and the other U.S. host cities are Houston, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Seattle. How World Cup tickets compare to local rent and mortgage payments in each U.S. host city, according to PropertyShark(PropertyShark)Where the World Cup is more than a mortgage paymentEast Rutherford's Met Life Stadium is hosting the Cup final on July 19, where the least expensive tickets are going for $7,256. In New York, the average monthly mortgage payment is $4,096, and the average monthly rent is $4,872, which means that, on average, it'll cost New York homeowners 1.77 months of mortgage payments and New York renters 1.49 months of rent to attend the game, even in the cheapest seats. And that's just for one ticket. While tickets for the final in East Rutherford may be the most expensive, other cities are seeing match prices that either mirror or outpace monthly mortgage and rent averages. The least expensive tickets for the Dallas semifinal match on July 14 are $2,391, while the city's average mortgage payment is $2,351, and the average rent is $1,578. Atlanta is hosting another semifinal match on July 15, where the cheapest tickets are going for $2,208. The average mortgage payment in Atlanta is $2,149, and the average rent payment is $1,814.In Kansas City, which is hosting one of the semifinal matches on July 11, the cheapest seats are going for $1,567, while the average monthly mortgage is $1,477 and the average rent is $1,342. And in Miami, where Colombia is set to take on Portugal in a much-anticipated match on June 27, the least-expensive seats are going for $2,700. That's about equivalent to the city's average monthly mortgage payment of $2,731 and its average rent at $2,696.Keep in mind, too, that these prices are likely to continue rising as the Cup goes on and it becomes clear which countries will advance. There are some cities, however, where games are relatively more affordable. In San Francisco, for example, the least-expensive tickets for a group-stage match on July 1 are going for $682. Certainly not cheap, but given San Francisco's relatively high housing prices, where the average monthly mortgage is an astronomical $6,842, and the average monthly rent price is $3,635, it seems like a steal.More consumers are focusing their spending on the 'experience economy'"We're seeing unprecedented prices for events like the World Cup because of supply and demand, to put it simply," says Mark Sanaiha of Macallan Capital. "For years, the experience economy has outpaced wage growth, and younger generations aren't planning to change that trajectory." Driven in part by the COVID-19 pandemic and in part by the sense that bigger purchases, such as homes, are out of reach, younger consumers are choosing to spend on experiences rather than things. A study from Mastercard found that consumer spending on "experiences" grew by 65% between 2019 and 2023, while spending on goods only grew by 12% in the same period.Sanaiha believes, though, that home ownership and "experiences" aren't mutually exclusive. He recommends creating a separate brokerage account or high-yield savings account designated specifically for the events you want to save for. "Once you give it a purpose, you're more inclined to keep saving," he says. "Automate it like a bill, saving $X every month until you hit your goal."And as Sanaiha points out, tickets to the game are only a part of what you might shell out to attend the World Cup. There are also travel and accommodation expenses. "Rather than focusing on the ticket price, consider a total cost for your budget, so everything is accounted for. The key is to plan this like it's another routine expense, but it happens to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he explains. FIFA's ticket prices have raised red flags for some U.S. officialsHigh prices are why many fans have already given up on attending. A survey of 1,008 U.S. soccer fans by LiveSportsonTV found that 52% of them had given up on purchasing tickets to the World Cup because of the exorbitant ticket prices. Those prices, and their continuous fluctuations, have led attorneys general in Texas, New York, New Jersey, and California to launch probes into the pricing and packaging policies of World Cup tickets. New York Attorney General Letitia James released a joint statement with New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport in May calling for greater transparency from FIFA regarding its pricing policies."Being honest about ticket sales is not complicated," said Davenport. "But FIFA has turned buying a ticket to the World Cup into a gauntlet of confusion, fake scarcity, and impossibly high prices—all at the expense of consumers and hardworking New Jerseyans.”0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

(Photo by Mitchell Leff/Getty Images) | Getty Images The 2026 Miami Dolphins are going to look vastly different from the 2025 version of the team. The team is in a reset and rebuild mode, looking to reposition the team for sustained future success as they come out of the last attempt to build a team that can win a playoff game for the first time since 2000.One of the biggest areas of transition for the Dolphins this year is in the wide receiver group. The team has moved on from Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle and are turning toward younger players and journeyman veterans to man the group as the salary cap comes back into order. One of those journeymen veterans is Terrace Marshall, Jr., who joins the Dolphins this year and becomes the focus of our latest 90-in-90 player breakdown this afternoon. He is deep on the depth chart right now, likely behind Malik Washington, Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, Tahj Washington, Theo Wease, and the three drafted players (Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, and Kevin Coleman, Jr.). Add in the recently signed Jalen Reagor, and Marshall may be playing for a practice squad at most. A strong training camp and preseason could open a roster spot for him, but it will be an uphill battle for Marshall.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIlia Topuria doubles down on vow to knock Justin Gaethje out in first roundTensions continue to rise between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje just days ahead of their matchup at UFC White House: Freedom 250. Topuria (17-0) puts his lightweight title on the line against interim champion Gaethje (27-5) in the main event on June 14. Both Topuria and Gaethje are known to be respectful towards their opponents, hardly even engaging in trash talk. While things were initially the same in the lead-up to their upcoming fight, Topuria and Gaethje are now going at each other. It started with Gaethje’s father calling Topuria a short guy. Topuria responded by promising to knock Gaethje out in front of his father. Gaethje hit back by taking a dig at Topuria’s recent divorce, which the Georgian-Spaniard took personally. After a heated exchange on X, Topuria and Gaethje recently traded barbs over a video call on Pat McAfee’s talk show. While Topuria is oozing with confidence going into the fight, Gaethje promises to make him look human. “He believes everything he says,” Gaethje said. “Sits down and smells his own fart. He thinks he is god. He is human just like me. I’m going to show him. I’m going to touch his chin, he is going to go to sleep just like anybody would when I land my shots.” Topuria has repeatedly vowed to knock Gaethje out in the first round. But “The Highlight” believes that Topuria will regret his words when the fight goes beyond the first round. “I love you knowing that you’re going to knock me out. Cause when it goes to the second round, the third round, you’ll be like, ‘Oh, I talked a lot of sh*t.’” However, “El Matador” is confident that the scenario won’t arise as the fight won’t go beyond the first five minutes. “Never going to be a second or third round. That’s not going to happen. I’m going to knock you out in the first round… You’re going to feel something you never felt. You never faced someone like me.”"I'm gonna touch his chin and he's gonna go to sleep.. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Alec Pierce could miss the start of Colts training camp due to ankle surgeryINDIANAPOLIS – Alec Pierce underwent surgery in late-March for a nagging injury to his left ankle, the Colts star wide receiver told reporters Wednesday, following a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection he received days after the end of the 2025 season that failed to relieve him of the significant pain he felt throughout the season. The procedure, Pierce said, comes with a 4- to 6-month recovery timeline, putting into question the amount of training camp the receiver -- who landed the most lucrative free agent wide receiver contract in NFL history in March -- could participate in July and August. After the 6-to-8 week required timeframe to see if the injection -- which is typically used to speed up the healing process in inflamed ligaments, tendons, muscles or joints – came and went, Pierce said Wednesday, he had returned to light jogging after spending 2 to 3 weeks in a walking boot but knew the shot hadn’t fully done its job.“We talked with the doctors and they said the surgery was the smartest play for the long term. They were kinda saying I would have to do it at some point and then I asked about the timeframe (for recovery), and he said 4 to 6 months, and it was already late-March,” Pierce said. “Hearing that timeframe made for a quick turnaround.“We could do it in 11 months after next season but they started talking about the risks and stuff, and we just determined that it was smart to take care of it now with the risk of having a worse injury happen during the season.”Four months from surgery would put a Pierce return right at the start of training camp, and the longer end could even put his return for the team’s Week 1 regular season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Ravens up in the air. Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Tuesday that Pierce could very well miss the first week or two of training camp but he couldn’t yet pinpoint precisely when he would hope Pierce might be back.“We all want the date to be as early as possible but you kinda have to let your body guide yourself and see how you feel,” Pierce said. “What I’ve learned with rehab is the more you overdo it, the more it can be counter-productive. I’m learning when to push through the pain and soreness and when to back off.“It’s really interesting how smart your body is. I think I’ve been in-tune with how I feel and learning that this achy pain is fine, but a sharp pain is a guide that maybe we’re doing a little too much and maybe we’re being too aggressive and need to take a step back. And I had gotten used to the sharp pain. I felt it pretty much most of the last year.”Despite his nagging injury, Pierce produced his first 1,000-yard season in 2025 and the team’s only one – with 1,003 yards on 47 catches and six touchdowns. He again led the league in yards per catch (21.3) and came through with two of his biggest games – four catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns against the 49ers and four catches for 132 yards and two scores in the season finale at the Texans – at a time where Pierce said he was feeling the worst over the final month.“It was just a lot of discomfort. I think I knew there was an issue over the last month of the season on game days when I wasn’t feeling very good at all. I’d go out Wednesday, Thursay or Friday, and it might be pretty tough, and I’d understand then I’m not going to feel 100%, and that’s fine,” Pierce said. “But once I’d get to game days, and I still wasn’t feeling great with a lot of discomfort, that’s when I knew I had an issue that I needed to get figured out.”Pierce finalized his offseason contract negotiations with the Colts on March, 11 minutes after the opening of free agency on new four-year deal worth as much as $114 million coming off the end of his rookie deal, and he said Wednesday the free agency process had no bearing on having the surgery done.“We first went with the PRP shot, and that was an eight-week process, and even then a month in, I was saying, ‘I don’t feel great. I don’t think this is working,’ but you still have to wait because this is a thing that takes time to heal, and who knows if in March or April it might be helping me,” Pierce said. “I got around to March and got back into jogging, but nothing too explosive, and we were seeing how the shot reacted and seeing if that helped heal it.“But I don’t think it did as much as we wanted it to. It didn’t fix the problem. It was more of a band-aid-type solution, shorter-term, and that didn’t work out.”Joel A. Erickson and Nathan Brown cover the Colts all season. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFoxxy shot: Ryan Fox returns to site of his 'perfect' shot, so good they made a plaqueRBC Canadian Open defending champion Ryan Fox conceded that his four-hole playoff last year against Sam Burns was “a bit of a pillow fight,” until he took matters into his own hands and ripped a cut 3-wood from 269 yards at the par-5 18th to 8 feet to set up the winning birdie. “It’s the best shot I have ever hit,” recalled Fox, who also noted that he sipped some champagne and a couple glasses of red wine in celebration the night of his triumph. “Golf’s never a game of perfect. You’re always trying to minimize your misses and almost get away with a couple of bad shots here and there, and that was one of the few shots that I’ve ever hit that I could say was 100 percent perfect.”Indeed, it was – so much so that the club installed a plaque to commemorate the shot. Fox, a 39-year-old native of New Zealand, returns this week to TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) in Caledon, Ontario, for the 115th playing of Canada’s national championship, and had a chance to see the plaque for the first time on Wednesday. “I've never had one of those before, so that was a pretty cool novelty today,” he said during a press conference on the eve of the championship. The finishing hole at TPC Toronto, which sits on land that once served as a sand and gravel quarry and features a pond dangerously close to the green, could be the site of another dramatic finish on Sunday.“With the pond there, it just seemed to be a good natural end for a risk-reward par 5,” original course architect Doug Carrick, who watched last year’s tournament on TV, told Score Golf. “It’s kind of a double-dogleg where you have to bite off the corners on both shots to get at the green. That was always the intention with that hole.”Growing up as the son of Grant Fox, one of the greatest rugby players New Zealand has ever produced, Fox learned an important lesson: hard work beats talent. He switched his focus to golf at age 18 and notched four wins on the DP World Tour, including the BMW PGA Championship, its preeminent title, but he called winning on the PGA Tour, which he had done for the first time in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, just a month before his victory in Canada, “a different beast.”“I kind of always felt like I could compete out here, but it's a bit easier to believe it when you actually do it,” he said. “That five-week period last year was kind of what I had dreamed of since I took up golf full-time. Still crazy to think – I've just looked at a few of the names on the trophy here – that my name is part of that history.”The Canadian Open is the fourth oldest tournament, behind the British Open, U.S. Open and BMW Championship, formerly known as the Western Open, begun in 1899, five years before the Canadian Open. This week's field includes 44 players ranked in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking, with 14 of those in the top 50. Four top 10 players headline the field: No. 4 Matt Fitzpatrick, a three-time Tour winner this season; No. 6 Justin Rose, winner of the Farmers Insurance Open earlier this season; No. 7 Tommy Fleetwood, the reigning FedEx Cup champion; and No. 10 Collin Morikawa, winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.“It seems like a stronger field than last year,” said Fox. “Coming from Memorial last week and heading into Shinnecock next week (site of the U.S. Open) it's kind of nice to know that there are some birdies out here if you do play well.”Adam Schupak is a senior writer for Golfweek, covering the PGA Tour. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Ryan Fox returns to defend Canadian Open title0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPhil Simms has some advice for Russell Wilson at CBSCredit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images / Vincent Carchietta-Imagn ImagesRussell Wilson spent 14 seasons in the NFL mastering the art of saying almost nothing at all. Now he’ll have to make a living by saying exactly what he thinks.Wilson officially retired last week to join CBS’s The NFL Today, turning down a contract offer from the New York Jets to make his second career in television official. He’ll take his place alongside James Brown, Nate Burleson, and Bill Cowher on a set that has been one of the better NFL pregame shows on television for years. Before he gets there, though, Phil Simms has a couple pieces of advice.“Don’t be afraid. You just gotta say it, man,” Simms said when asked by Kay Adams on a recent episode of Up & Adams if he had any advice for the incoming NFL on CBS analyst. From one QB-turned-analyst to another…Phil Simms has some wise words for Russell Wilson:@PhilSimmsQB | @DangeRussWilson | @heykayadamspic.twitter.com/RgzXq0ijId— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) June 4, 2026Wilson is a 10-time Pro Bowl player and won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. However, his career has been in a slow decline since his blockbuster trade to the Denver Broncos before the 2022 season. Wilson was just 11-19 over two disastrous seasons in the Mile High City before the Broncos took a disastrous cap hit to be freed from his $242 million contract. Since then, he has had stops in Pittsburgh and with the New York Giants, where he served as a backup to Jaxson Dart and even Jameis Winston in 2025.Wilson certainly has the polish to be a great analyst and presence on television. However, one of the criticisms that’s dogged him throughout his NFL career is that he has maybe a little too much polish and isn’t genuine. Now that Wilson has indeed decided to hang it up and enter the media world, his challenge will be proving his authenticity, not just his ability to communicate Xs and Os“Your job, my job is to tell the truth, and it’s really, really important,” Simms continued. “Because the fans only know what they read and what they hear. And so you have to do it for the player, the organization, their family, everything.”There was also a more nuts-and-bolts lesson from Simms, that television doesn’t give analysts unlimited time to unpack every thought, no matter how much they know. When Tony Romo’s arrival in 2017 pushed him out of the game booth after nearly two decades as CBS’s No. 1 analyst alongside Jim Nantz, Simms had to learn how to condense everything he knew about a full Sunday slate into a handful of studio-friendly takes. He joked at the time that he woke up “in cold sweats on Friday” because he could talk for 10 minutes about every single game and had to whittle it all down to a couple of thoughts.“It’s really quick, Russell, I will tell you that,” Simms added. “They say, it’s your turn to talk, they’re gonna say, 20 seconds, and by the time you introduce yourself, it’s tough.”What’ll be toughest for Wilson, though, isn’t boiling an opinion down to 20 seconds. He’ll need to convince viewers that it’s his real opinion in the first place. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat Bryson DeChambeau has done before every major recently which is the ‘weirdest thing’ Johnson Wagner has ever seenPhoto by Chung Sung-Jun/Getty ImagesIt should probably come as no surprise that Bryson DeChambeau is at the centre of the weirdest thing Johnson Wagner has seen on the range at a tournament. DeChambeau is a golfer like no other. He earned the mad scientist nickname early on in his career, with the American quickly becoming known for using a set of irons that were all the same length. There have been plenty of notable incidents on the range over the years. DeChambeau is often a contender for hitting the most balls on the practice ground during a major championship week.It appears that it baffles Johnson Wagner just how much DeChambeau leaves until the last minute as he prepares to take on golf’s biggest stages.Johnson Wagner left baffled by Bryson DeChambeauWagner was asked on Scorecard from CBS Sports about the strangest thing he has seen when it comes to equipment following the Memorial Tournament, with Ryan Gerard – who lost out in a playoff to J.T. Poston – carrying a number of putters each week to practice with. And he suggested that he is often left baffled by DeChambeau.“I’m pretty traditional when it comes to my bag. I don’t change out, especially the putter. Once I find a putter that I like, I pretty much used the same putter my entire career,” he said.Photo by Hector Vivas/Getty Images“The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, probably Bryson DeChambeau at Augusta, and at every major over the last couple of years, he comes out on the driving range on a Thursday morning before going to tee off, and hit seven different driver heads, writing on the bottom of the head, the spin rates, and all sorts of weird stuff. I find that incredibly hard.“I remember when I first got Track Man, I brought it out on the range before a tournament round, and it freaked me out. I started looking at club path number, all this data, and I’m like, I can’t, I can’t do this. So to think about going to tee off in a major, and playing and messing around with that many different heads right before you go, that’s clearly the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.“But Ryan Gerard, you know, he’s got that putting lab basically in his dining room. Doesn’t even have a dining room. He’s turned it into a putting lab. I kind of want to do that here at my house, too, but my wife won’t let me.”The late driver change that almost cost Bryson DeChambeau the US OpenThe amount of choice DeChambeau gives himself almost landed him in trouble back in 2024 ahead of the final round of the US Open.DeChambeau decided to change his driver head with less than 30 minutes to go before he teed off at Pinehurst. He felt that it had become too flat. The decision almost backfired, with DeChambeau pushing a number of his drives out to the right over the course of the day.Obviously, he ended up doing enough to just about get across the line and edge out Rory McIlroy.Nevertheless, it seems that he remains determined to not leave a single stone unturned in his quest to get better, no matter how close he is to teeing off.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COM“Pathetic coward”: GOP congressman blatantly fakes phone call to avoid reporter’s questionRep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) was caught clearly faking a 90-second phone call to avoid answering a reporter’s question about possible cuts to Social Security. The reporter asked Wittman – who is up for reelection this year – about “Mike Johnson’s secret plan to cut Social Security.” Rumors have been swirling that the Republican House Speaker is planning cuts to the program after controversial comments he made in a June 8th appearance on the Moon Griffon Show. Related Comedian brutally mocks MAGAs who hate rainbow flags but proudly wave Trump flags Before the reporter even finished asking the question, Wittman whipped out his cell phone and began to speak. The only problem: his phone screen was visible throughout the reporter’s video, and it was quite clear that he was not actually on a call. Nevertheless, he kept the ruse going for a full minute and a half as the reporter walked beside him, hoping for a response. When he went to hang up, it became even clearer that there was no actual call to end. Instead, he swiped up to exit whatever app had been opened while he was pressing the phone to his ear. After Wittman pretended to hang up, the reporter asked him the question again. This time, he silently walked away. Folks on social media brutally mocked Wittman. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM🎥 Incredible: referee barred from the US welcomed as hero in Somalia🎥 Incredible: referee barred from the US welcomed as hero in SomaliaReferee Omar Artan, who would have been the first Somali to officiate at a World Cup, was welcomed as a hero in Mogadishu this Wednesday (10) after being denied entry to the United States. The images are striking:Named Africa’s best referee of 2025, Artan was stopped at Miami airport, questioned for 11 hours, and deported, despite holding a U.S. visa and a diplomatic passport. The refusal is linked to the travel ban imposed by Donald Trump’s administration on 12 countries, including Somalia. As all referees in the tournament must undergo training in Florida, FIFA confirmed Artan’s definitive exclusion from the 2026 World Cup, making his participation impossible even in matches hosted in Mexico and Canada.Despite the frustration, the referee celebrated the warm reception and thanked FIFA, the government, and the public for their support. In his speech, he made a promise and an appeal: he assured that he will officiate at the 2030 World Cup and asked Somalia’s youth not to lose hope, encouraging them to keep defending the country’s honor and flag.Artan was also received by Somalia’s president, Hassan MohamudThis article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. SPORTS.YAHOO.COM'Why not?' Steve Garcia sees title shot for the taking at UFC Freedom 250WASHINGTON – Is there a set-in-stone next UFC featherweight title challenger? Steve Garcia isn't so sure.Ahead of his UFC Freedom 250 bout Sunday at the White House, Garcia (19-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) didn't rule out the possibility he could snatch an opportunity from the hands of default next-man-up Movsar Evloev should he make an impression vs. Diego Lopes."Why not? Why not?" Garcia told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a pre-fight news conference when asked if he could be next in line for the title. "I think how I beat Diego Lopes is going to be the big deciding factor. I know Movsar is like, 'Oh, we're just going to give him this guy.' You know what? Let Sunday play out. Let Sunday play out, and I can make my move."So how does one beat Lopes (27-9 MMA, 6-3 UFC)? It's not an easy task. Only champion Alexander Volkanovski and the aforementioned Evloev have been able to do the job thus far in the UFC. Neither were able to finish him."As we break everybody down, we definitely try to pick up on the tendencies and triggers and just different mindsets on who the opponent is that they're fighting," Garcia said. "He has a lot of tape, so you can kind of do that. I think at this level, a lot of us do. I think that me and Diego Lopes are going to set the tone and get it off right."This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC White House fighter sees title shot for the taking on big stage0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

APNEWS.COMFBI seizing evidence at California plant where chemical tank overheated and forced evacuationsEvacuees Rodger Macias, right, and his wife Alendera Marcias set up a tent outside the Elks Lodge in Garden Grove, Calif., on Monday, May 25, 2026. (AP Photo/Ethan Swope)2026-06-10T17:22:56Z LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal authorities served a search warrant on Wednesday at a Southern California aerospace facility where a chemical tank overheated last month, forcing 50,000 residents to evacuate. The warrant signed by a federal judge last week approved the seizure of documents and records related to the “storage, use, or disposal” of methyl methacrylate, the chemical inside the affected tank.“Samples of the substance within any tank, tote, drum, vat, vessel, or container suspected of containing or having previously contained methyl methacrylate and/or any hazardous substance” were also sought, according to the warrant. The warrant also orders agents to seize records related to “any cooling equipment or other equipment used to control or regulate the temperature of methyl methacrylate.”The FBI confirmed its agents were searching GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems in the Orange County city of Garden Grove. GKN Aerospace makes cockpit windows, canopies and windshields. The tank that overheated contained 6,000 to 7,000 gallons (22,700 to 26,500 liters) of methyl methacrylate, which is highly flammable. The liquid is used in the manufacturing of plastics and coatings, such as Plexiglas and dental prosthetics. Exposure to the chemical can cause serious respiratory problems, neurological issues and irritation to the skin, eyes and throat, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Read More Responding to a request for comment on the FBI investigation, a GKN spokesperson told the AP on Wednesday morning: “We are cooperating with authorities at our Garden Grove facility and will continue to do so.”GKN’s Steve Carlin spoke at a community meeting Tuesday evening. He thanked the firefighters and local leaders who responded to the incident at the plant that employs more than 500 people, and apologized to the community.“On behalf of GKN and the Garden Grove plant I want to say that I’m sorry that this event and this incident occurred. I understand and I realized sitting here tonight what a disruptive event it was and how unsettling it is to the greater community. Particularly unsettling to us at GKN because of the long history that we have with Garden Grove and how connected we are to this community.” Carlin said the company would be willing to hold a town hall meeting where residents could ask questions. But he said Tuesday that it is very early in the investigation into what happened, so it is too soon to make decisions about what actions the company might take in response to the incident. Separately, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office also is conducting a criminal investigation into the GKN Aerospace plant, according to DA spokesperson Kimberly Edds.“We have sent a preservation letter to GKN directing them not to modify or destroy any evidence, which the company’s outside counsel confirmed receipt,” Edds told The Associated Press in an email.About a dozen people and businesses that were among the 50,000 evacuated during the chemical emergency have filed federal lawsuits against the company.County health officials assured residents that no contamination or fumes were released, and that they would keep monitoring the air for several months and checking the sewer and storm drains. ___Associated Press journalists Martha Bellisle in Seattle and Josh Funk in Omaha, Nebraska, contributed. 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBest value bets for UFC Freedom 250: Ilia Topuria vs. Justin GaethjeThe matchmakers for Sunday's UFC Freedom 250 — the first sporting event held at the White House — might have had other objectives in mind than evenly paired matchups. With extreme odds up and down the card, bettors will either have to look for angles other than sides to find value, or else parlay like crazy. But there is one very interesting matchup that has the market split, and the numbers at least had a clear opinion.Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentIlia Topuria (-550) vs. Justin Gaethje (+400)(Fightnomics)Steep odds and an eight-year age gap. Both men enjoy a firefight, but Topuria is clearly less damaged and maintains tighter defense. The projected win probability is in line with the current odds, meaning I clearly think the favorite wins but don't see value in the side. That leaves totals or props, and these are much trickier to project. The most affordable angle appears to be over 1.5 rounds on the assumption that Gaethje is still tough as nails, even if the market has this pegged as a squash match. Steep odds usually drive down the total, so perhaps there's value countering that narrative.Eventually, the combination of age and cumulative damage for Gaethje, and the superior power of Topuria, could threaten a finish, so I'm not going to get too greedy on a higher total.Best bet: Topuria to win for parlays, but low value. Over 1.5 rounds or Fight Starts Round 2Alex Pereira (-110) vs. Ciryl Gane (-110)(Fightnomics)This is arguably the most interesting matchup on the card, and the split market agrees. The models don't account for the move up in weight for Pereira, but that's OK, because the models have come down on the side of Gane with pick 'em lines. Another nuance of prediction models is having to specify the favorite, which is a predictive variable. So in cases like this, I run the matchup both ways. Gane came out as the lean either way.The stat line is surprisingly close and entirely focused on the standup game. Nearly identical striking accuracy and pace, but with the per strike knockdown rate favoring Pereira (though earned in smaller weight classes) and avoidance and range favoring Gane. Perhaps surprisingly, Gane is a few years younger. As stated, the models lean Gane to land more efficiently when trading leather, and his power should be the most Pereira has ever felt. Let's just hope for no eye pokes.Best bet: Gane to winSean O'Malley (-430) vs. Aiemann Zahabi (+300)(Fightnomics)This is priced like a layup for O'Malley, facing a smaller, older opponent who is sometimes too willing to stand and take damage. O'Malley may not be the world beater we thought, but he's still the most accurate long-range striker in the division, and that will force an uphill battle for Zahabi.Shockingly (because his brother was notably the coach of Georges St-Pierre), Zahabi isn't a takedown threat. So spending rounds pressing forward against O'Malley sniping away in retreat doesn't offer much room for an upside. And yet playing O'Malley straight up doesn't offer much value either. Instead, I think Zahabi loses, but at least makes it a scrap, as he's been able to go the distance with great strikers before. And full disclosure, based on current prices, the models see the slightest value on Zahabi, though I think it's because O'Malley's stats are deflated by a bad run against wrestlers. Still, a lottery pick for the evening is Zahabi by decision at +500.Best bet: Over 2.5 roundsMauricio Ruffy (-700) vs. Michael Chandler (+500)(Fightnomics)Yet another potentially violent matchup, and again a massive youth advantage for the betting favorite. The numbers love Ruffy here. Despite Chandler showing some wrestling game, it hasn't been deployed consistently and could be easily nullified by a much larger opponent who also has strong takedown defense. And while Chandler is chasing from distance, Ruffy will be landing more accurate and powerful shots against the the worst head-strike defense on the entire card. Chandler's willingness to take punches got him to the White House card, but it doesn't bode well against so many factors stacked against him in this matchup.Best bet: Ruffy to win for parlays. Prop on Ruffy by TKOJosh Hokit (-350) vs. Derrick Lewis (+270)(Fightnomics)So let's acknowledge the statistics in this matchup are the most ridiculous I've ever seen. With minimal sample size, Hokit's limited cage time has been a wild ride. His offensive numbers are unnaturally high, but his key defensive stat is extremely low. Unfortunately, we don't really know what's real and should regress to reality given some more Octagon time. And then there's Derrick Lewis, who owns some extreme traits in his own right. When heavyweights owning dangerous offense and terrible defense collide, picking a winner can feel like a coin flip. That would suggest value on the veteran Lewis to find one shot that could end the night at a hefty return. However, Hokit's surprisingly durable performance against a contender like Curtis Blaydes instantly established him as a force to be respected. On one hand, the sample size is so small the models can't get a realistic read on this. On the other hand, we know that neither man will survive long if the other mounts sustained offense, even if just for a moment. Lewis these days is the embodiment of hit or miss. He folds easily, but only if you can avoid getting hit even once. The glaring liability on Hokit's stat line was being hit by every other punch against Blaydes … and that just won't work against Lewis. Can Lewis fire off at least two clean shots for a sizable return? That's the real bet.Best bet: FDNGTD for parlays. Small prop on Lewis to win by TKOBo Nickal (-330) vs. Kyle Daukaus (+270)(Fightnomics)Anything but normal matchmaking continues. Daukaus has made an impressive return to the UFC after washing out and is now getting thrown to someone everyone thought would be fighting for a title by now.The stats show Nickal with slightly better striking metrics, though having a reserved pace versus the extremely aggressive output of Daukaus. That high rate of output will work against him with Nickal having options to counterstrike with precision, or simply change levels and utilize his dominant wrestling. This is another one that depends on price. The models come in clearly on the side of Nickal, but not enough to see value playing him straight up. Both fighters are capable of finishing, though Daukaus is a bit more damaged. I think the better play is to expect a finish, despite a small fractional unit lean on Daukaus based on current prices.Best bet: Under 2.5 roundsDiego Lopes (-165) vs. Steve Garcia (+135)(Fightnomics)The curtain jerker could bring fireworks. They've combined for 13 knockdowns, but they differentiate more so on the defensive side. Garcia has better range and defense, but he's been dropped five times. Meanwhile, Lopes is yet another guy who snuck into the upper ranks despite the massive liability of poor head-strike defense. This feels like another coin flip scenario where Garcia could pull ahead, only to lose the war of attrition or get clipped in pursuit. The models have a pass here, with just a slight lean toward Lopes. But again I think the finishing potential on both sides is worth noticing. As is the extreme power of Garcia, who actually has the highest per strike knockdown rate on the entire card (a card stacked with strikers, no less). I'll sprinkle a flier on Garcia by TKO, but mainly expect the firefight to send someone down the canvas eventually.Best bet: FDNGTD0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld -

They returned days later to do more damage. An Ontario, Canada, elementary school’s Pride flag installation over the weekend was vandalized for the second time in a week, leaving community members reeling. On Saturday night, two unknown suspects cut down the metal flagpole from which the Pride flag flew at Norwich’s Emily Stowe Public School and proceeded to steal the emblem of acceptance. A week earlier, on June 1, perpetrators removed the Pride flag and set it on fire. There is no place for hatred and discrimination in our school community.” According to CBC, police have identified the suspects as white males in their early 20s or late teens, both thin. Two of the incidents also took place at Emily Stowe Public School. There were also several Pride flag thefts reported in both 2022 and 2023. Tera Russell, the president of the Oxford Pride Committee (Norwich is located in Oxford County), pointed out that the “escalation of cutting down the flagpole is a little more of an aggressive point that they’re making. So it’s concerning for the youth and the citizens of Norwich.” “Incidents like this, there’s not just one victim, there’s many victims,” said Constable Randi Crawford of the Oxford Ontario Provincial Police. Crawford urged anyone with information to come forward. “We need to catch these people and hold them accountable.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRed Wings legend Darren McCarty fires back at Dylan Larkin amid trade dramaThe Detroit Red Wings face a franchise-altering offseason after captain Dylan Larkin reportedly requested a trade. This development has brought an unprecedented uncertainty around Larkin’s future and raised major questions about the direction of the organization.Larkin’s request comes after Detroit extended its playoff drought to 10 seasons, the longest active streak in the NHL. Despite posting another strong individual campaign with 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games, the 29-year-old is believed to be seeking a move to a Stanley Cup contender. Reports indicate that the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild and Vegas Golden Knights are among the teams on his approved trade list.MORE: Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin under fire after reported three-team trade listThe development led to a strong response from Red Wings legend Darren McCarty, who questioned the decision while discussing the situation publicly.“I automatically think about the guys that persevered,” McCarty said. “The guys in St. Louis. Barkov in Florida. That’s a great example. Ovi’s another one where it’s a leader of the team. So I don’t understand.”McCarty also pointed to reported tensions between Larkin and management.“So obviously, he’s got his reasons, but when you bring up the fact they haven’t talked in a year, and there’s contention and stuff like this,” McCarty said. “What do I always say? You’re either in or in the way. So you’re definitely in the way.”What the Dylan Larkin situation mean for Detroit’s future?Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin (71) skates with the puck at Little Caesars Arena. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-Imagn ImagesLarkin’s frustration is understandable. Detroit appeared poised to end its playoff drought after sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference in January, only to suffer another late-season collapse. For a player entering his prime and carrying five years remaining on his contract, the desire to compete for a championship is hardly surprising. However, McCarty’s comments reflect a belief shared by many former players: once a captain asks out, the relationship becomes difficult to repair.“We can put blame on this and that or whatever like this, but I don’t want a guy, no matter if you’re the top guy or the bottom guy, if you don’t want to be here, I don’t want you here,” McCarty said. “This, I believe, will end up being one of the best things to happen to the Red Wing organization.”MORE: Canadiens Rumors: Montreal could prioritize $50.75M center over Dylan LarkinIf Larkin is ultimately moved, general manager Steve Yzerman faces one of the most important decisions of his tenure. Detroit would lose its top center and emotional leader, but a major trade package could accelerate a roster reset built around Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat and the club’s growing prospect pool.Whether McCarty is right will depend entirely on what comes next.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 28 Views 0 voorbeeld
