Nature, Published online: 23 July 2025; doi:10.1038/d41586-025-02289-0The symptoms of primary deficiencies of the mitochondrial antioxidant coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) caused by loss of CoQ10 synthesis do not respond readily to CoQ10 treatment. Molecular precursors of the CoQ10 headgroup increase the survival of mice that cannot make the headgroup and improve neurological symptoms in an individual with primary CoQ10 deficiency.
