LGBTQ+ people of color will break records and make history with this years Emmy nominations
Among this years LGBTQ+ Emmy nominees, several performers of color are set to break records and make history.As The Wrap noted following the announcement of the 2025 Primetime Emmy nominees Tuesday, RuPaul Charles is now the most nominated reality TV host of all time. With his 10th consecutive nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for RuPauls Drag Race, Charles broke the previous records set by Project Runway host Heidi Klum and Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron, both of whom have been nominated nine times in the category. Meanwhile, out Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang became the most nominated Asian male performer ever with his fourth nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. And The Bears Ayo Edebiri scored nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, making the queer star the first Black woman ever to be nominated in both categories in the same year. Alongside Yang, Somebody Somewheres Jeff Hiller, Shrinkings Michael Urie, and The Four Seasons Colman Domingo all scored nominations. As The Wrap notes, should Domingo win this year, he would become the first out Black actor to win a second acting Emmy, following his 2022 win for his role in Euphoria.In the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, out Severance star Tramell Tillman received his first-ever Emmy nomination, teeing him up to potentially become the first out Black actor ever to win in that category.Other first-time Emmy nominees include out actors Cooper Koch, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), and Robby Hoffman, who is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Hacks). Among Hoffmans competition is queer Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who earned her third Emmy nomination for her guest role playing multiple characters in the second season premiere of Poker Face. In the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, Bella Ramsey received a second nomination for their role in The Last of Us, making them the first nonbinary performer ever to score a second Emmy nomination.
