Conservative Christians start petition to protest gay couple appearing on reality TV show
A conservative Christian organization is lashing out at the new reality seriesBack to the Frontier, where three families give up modern technology to live as 1880s homesteaders, because a gay couple was cast on the show. By featuring a homosexual couple with children in a family dynamic within their show, [the shows producers] are now embracing and accepting this lifestyle choice, the group One Million Moms (OMM) posted to their website. Related Ellen responds to One Million Moms: My haters are my motivators Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday publicly responded to the anti-gay group One Million Moms, which recently called on retailer JC Penney to fire her as their spokesperson because she is gay. Back to the Frontier, which debuted recently on the Magnolia Network, is produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines, who produced the reality show Fixer Upper in the 2010s. They tackle historical challenges and learn the skills that frontier families needed to survive a long winter. One of those families is Jason and Joe Hanna-Riggs, who are both men, and their twin 10-year-old sons, Ethan and Lucas.Conservative Christians have been raging on social media at the show for including a sodomite couple, and Chip Gaines responded to his critics by saying that Christians should be less judgmental.Talk, ask questions, listen maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge first, understand later or never, he wrote on X. Its a sad sunday when non believers have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian. That did little to quell the criticism, and now the American Family Association, which runs OMM, is even angrier that Chip Gaines would suggest that Christians try to understand people who are different from them. By having a same-sex couple on Back to the Frontier, Chip said on social media hes only trying to listen and ask questions, American Family Association Vice President Ed Vitagliano said. What does he hope to learn from a homosexual couple that he cant learn from the Bible? Would he ever consider having a racist couple on this show in order to listen and ask questions? He wouldnt dareand rightfully sobecause racism is wrong. End of story.OMM points out that the Gaineses never featured a same-sex couple on Fixer Upper and claimed that Christians are wondering why the sudden change in the stance they are taking. It is disappointing that Chip and Joanna are now glorifying sin, and no sin should be placed in the spotlight and honored, including homosexuality. Promoting something that God defines as sin is, in itself, sin, the group said. OMM also started a petition for their followers to express their discontent. The petition says that signers disagree with the wokeness and liberal agenda you are pushing on families in your new reality show.It is irresponsibly misleading viewers with opinions of liberal, woke individuals, the petition states, even though the group never said anything about the political beliefs of the Hanna-Riggses. Scripture states in Ezekiel 13:10-12 and Matthew 18:6 that it is extremely dangerous to lead others astray, and there are consequences for these actions. My family and I are not buying what you are selling and will stay far away from your reality show, Back to the Frontier. You will not have my support if you continue to veer away from scriptural truth.OMM claims that 5,000 people have signed the petition so far.Subscribe to theLGBTQ Nation newsletterand be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.
