A picture of health: gene-expression maps of the human liver from living donors

Nature, Published online: 15 April 2026; doi:10.1038/d41586-026-01187-3A high-resolution atlas of the healthy human liver has been assembled using gene-expression profiling and spatial mapping of cells in samples from living donors. The atlas reveals human-specific patterns of gene expression in different zones and uncovers spatially resolved adaptations in liver cells from individuals with the disease steatosis.
