World Cup Day 1️⃣ Essentials: What you need to know before kick-off
World Cup Day 1️⃣ Essentials: What you need to know before kick-offThe long wait is over. The day is finally here.In front of a sold out crowd in Mexico City today, the 2026 FIFA World Cup here gets under way. This is everything you need to know about day one of action.🏟️ Who is playing? The tournament kicks off at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on Thursday as the host nation welcome South Africa to get things going. Both nations have previous experience of taking part in the opening game as a result of their hosting duties. In 1970, Mexico drew 0-0 with USSR in the first game of the tournament at the same venue in front of over 107,000 spectators.Forty years later, Siphiwe Tshabalala wrote his name into African football folklore with the opening goal of the World Cup in a game that would end in a 1-1 draw. And who did that fixture take place against? Today's opponents! Making this a repeat of the 2010 opening game.👀 Why should we watch? As explained already, this game is the second time these nations have met in the curtain raiser to international football's biggest tournament. For South Africa, they will be eyeing a bit of revenge over El Tri who spoiled the party somewhat in Johannesburg when Rafael Márquez's late leveller denied them what would have been an iconic win.But seeing Mexico at home backed by one of the most passionate and colourful fanbases in the competition will be an undoubted treat as they aim to send the majority inside the stadium home happy. In addition, the opening game of the tournament is never one to be missed and this is one is no exception - setting the tone for all of the drama that will follow in the biggest World Cup yet.💎 Who are the men to look out for?Gilberto MoraAt the age of 17 years and 240 days, Tijuana playmaker is the youngest player of any side competing at this summer's World Cup.He has already made history by becoming his country's youngest ever player and appearing in this fixture would see him become their youngest ever World Cup representative too.The teenager has the world at his feet and the fact that he has already won almost 10 caps (including a starting berth in the Gold Cup final) and racked up more than 50 appearances at club level are testament to the trust he has already earned. Will this tournament be Mora's arrival on the global stage?Ronwen WilliamsThe key to Bafana Bafana's hopes this summer will come from experienced goalkeeper and captain Williams. The 34-year-old is heading for Mexico full of confidence after a successful club campaign which saw him clinch African Champions League glory with Mamelodi Sundowns.Williams has also gained a reputation as something of a penalty-saving expert too - you only need to recall the 2023 AFCON showdown with Cape Verde as proof of that when he kept out an incredible four efforts in their quarter-final shootout.🔥 What can we expect?📸 Clive Mason - 2010 Getty ImagesBefore the whistle is even blown to kickstart the festival of football we, of course, have the opening ceremony to look forward to.That promises to be filled with the usual pomp and ceremony that only the occasion of a World Cup can provide. On the field, since these sides drew 1-1 in 2010, all opening games have witnessed decisive victors. With home advantage and an expectant audience looking on, the pressure will be on Mexico to get their tournament tilt off to the best possible start.🔮 PredictionMexico 2-1 South Africa

Remember when a right-winger tried gotcha questions on a No Kings protestor & she turned the tables?
A woman interviewed by a right-winger at a March 28 No Kings protest against the U.S. president has earned the praise of the internet for her responses that seemed to leave the interviewer speechless. Youtuber Nate Friedman claimed to have “exposed” No Kings protestors in New York City by peppering them with supposed gotcha questions. But he was rendered speechless by a woman’s response when he told her he didn’t see a lot of diversity at the event. “Not a Surprise”: James Vowles Publicly Confirms F1’s Massive Mercedes ADUO Loophole
The Formula 1 paddock has spent the last week quietly seething over the FIA’s first official Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) verdict. The ruling effectively locked Red Bull out of engine development while handing Mercedes millions in extra budget to upgrade a power unit that is already dominating the 2026 championship. Now, Williams Team Principal James Vowles has gone on the record, explicitly confirming the exact technical loophole that caused the controversial disparity: Red Bull has the brute force, but Mercedes has the electrical supremacy. In a recent interview with the Italian outlet AutoRacer, Vowles broke down exactly why he wasn’t shocked by the FIA’s assessment, and why Williams stands to massively profit from their engine supplier’s regulatory windfall. The ICE vs. Electrical DivideAs we previously reported, the massive flaw in the ADUO assessment is that it exclusively measures the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), completely ignoring the 50% power output generated by the electrical Energy Recovery System (ERS).When asked about the results, Vowles was brutally honest about the performance gap. “I wasn’t surprised by the results that emerged. Already in Bahrain, I had publicly said that Red Bull seemed to have the most powerful engine. They were doing things that we were not able to do.”However, because the ADUO sensors only test the combustion chamber, Mercedes’ massive overall track advantage was completely hidden from the FIA’s penalty metrics.“The picture of engine performance is more complex than it might appear from the outside,” Vowles explained. “There are two aspects: the combustion part and the electrical part. The ADUO only concerns the internal combustion engine. On the electrical side, I think Mercedes has done a great job. Because of this, we sometimes have more deployment compared to others.”Profiting From the RulesBecause Mercedes officially fell into the 2% deficit bracket on ICE power alone, they are legally permitted to spend extra cost-cap funds to upgrade their engine. As a customer team running the Mercedes power unit in the back of the FW48, Williams is poised to reap the benefits of that development entirely for free.“If the identified margin is really in the order of 2%, I am happy,” Vowles admitted. “We have a good Mercedes power unit, but having the possibility to invest and improve further always makes a difference.”While the Mercedes loophole has drawn the ire of the grid, Vowles actually defended the FIA’s decision to grant maximum development tokens to the severely struggling Ferrari and Honda (Aston Martin) power units.“From a sporting point of view, I think it’s a good thing,” Vowles noted. “Sure, everyone wants to win the championship, but we also want everyone to have the chance to fight to win it. Honda is investing a huge amount, and giving them the chance to catch up makes perfect sense.”Williams Racing Embracing the 2027 RebalanceLooking ahead to the newly proposed 2027 power unit rebalancing, which will shift the engine regulations to a 60:40 ICE-to-electric split, Vowles confirmed that Williams is already aggressively shifting their development focus.“I think [the 2027 regulations] are a good thing,” Vowles stated. “In combination with the planned changes to the power units for 2027 and 2028, I think it is a positive direction… Selfishly, I like change. Change creates opportunity. It allows us to already focus on next year’s project while others might be more cautious.”With Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon locked in for the future, and an upgraded Mercedes power unit on the horizon, Williams is perfectly positioned to weaponize the chaos of the 2026 regulations.

Martin O’Neill staying at Celtic as he signs new contract after league and cup double
Martin O’Neill has signed a new one-year contract as Celtic manager, with an option for a further season, the club announced. The 74-year-old returned to Celtic Park twice last season, leading the Hoops to a league and Scottish Cup double.O’Neill, who returned to Celtic Park twice last campaign, expressed his privilege. He told Celtic’s official website: "It is once again a great privilege for me to continue as Celtic manager. Last season will live long in all our memories and to be part of that success has in a big way whetted the appetite to work again for more days like those and bring our supporters those moments."His impact was immediate. He stabilised the team after Brendan Rodgers’ sudden departure, winning seven of eight games, before a third spell followed Wilfried Nancy’s disastrous reign (six losses in eight matches). O’Neill then led Celtic to nine consecutive victories, achieving 19 wins, two draws, and two losses in 23 William Hill Premiership games, alongside two cup triumphs over Rangers and Europa League knockout stage progress. Now with nine trophies as Celtic manager, O’Neill emphasised continuous pursuit of excellence. Martin O’Neill is staying at Celtic (PA Wire)He stated: "We know of course that Celtic can never rest on past success so we are now aiming to drive forward together in the coming season as we aim to deliver again for the club and our fans. “I thank our fans for their ongoing support, it means everything to us. I look forward to being back at Celtic Park next season when we will come together and we will strive again to bring our fans the success which that support deserves."Confirmation of O’Neill’s appointment came hours after reports suggested delays over his backroom staff. Assistants Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham were reportedly offered wage cuts, though the club’s announcement made no mention of other coaching personnel. O’Neill staying at Celtic came after some supporter protests opposing Robbie Keane’s potential appointment. Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond reportedly spoke with Keane, whose previous stint at Maccabi Tel Aviv during Israel’s bombing of Gaza had drawn criticism from a segment of the fanbase.O’Neill won two trophies with Celtic last season (PA Wire)Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond lauded O’Neill’s enduring qualities. He said: "Time and time again Martin has shown his qualities and what he can bring to Celtic. We know he is a winner, we know what the club means to him and he continues to be the outstanding candidate to give us the best opportunity to realise our objectives. “The club will support Martin fully again across the close season to make sure we are well prepared to achieve domestic success and compete on the European stage."Interim chairman Brian Wilson echoed this, adding: "This is the start of a busy summer and we will ensure that we are in the best possible position to compete, with Martin back at the helm." Chief executive Michael Nicholson concluded: "We have important challenges ahead and the immediate priority of everyone at the club is to ensure we are ready to tackle these with confidence and deliver success again for our supporters."

Knicks fans threw eggs at Victor Wembanyama after NBA Finals Game 4 comeback
New York Knicks fans have been waiting 53 years for a championship, and now they are only one win away after watching their team pull off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history in Game 4. The Knicks somehow erased a 29-point second half deficit to win the game just before the buzzer on OG Anunoby’s tip-in to take a commanding 3-1 series lead ahead of Game 5 in San Antonio on Saturday. It’s understandable that New Yorkers are excited, but the behavior from certain segments of the fanbase in this series has been disappointing and totally inappropriate. Knicks fans beat up Spurs fans in the streets after their Game 3 loss, and following the Game 4 win, Knicks fans were throwing objects at Victor Wembanyama as he went back to the team hotel.Knicks fans were waiting to jeer the Spurs as they arrived at their hotel after Game 4, which is weird behavior by itself. Wembanyama appeared to be hit by an egg as he walked off the bus. Someone just perfectly threw an egg at Wemby LMFAOOO pic.twitter.com/yvPPzWZaAf— 🌧️ (@wstgoat7) June 11, 2026Here’s another angle of Knicks fans throwing debris at Wemby.Knicks fans WAITED for the Spurs at their hotel and somebody threw something at Wemby and hit him THIS IS ACTUALLY INSANE MAN WTF pic.twitter.com/9guYUKJI1z— Hater Report (@HaterReport) June 11, 2026Wembanyama has turned into public enemy No.1 for Knicks fans. He got away with decking Jalen Brunson in Game 3, and then in Game 4, he was taunting Mitchell Robinson in the first half before the Spurs’ massive collapse. Booing the opponent’s star player is fair game, but throwing things at him on his way to bed is just completely out of line. Knicks fans should be embarrassed. It’s a terrible look for the city and the fanbase. Wembanyama deserves a lot more respect than that, not just as a player but as a human. Knicks fans are disgracing themselves in this series as their team puts itself on the brink of achieving an impossible dream. I’m not going to tell Knicks fans to act like they’ve been there before, because almost 70 percent of New York City residents weren’t born when the team won its last title in 1973. Still, let’s try to have a little respect for the opponent. This behavior is gross, and it needs to stop immediately.

Chatbots Keep Telling Stories About Lighthouse Keeper 'Elias Thorne'. We Might Know Why
Depending on which chatbot you ask, Elias Thorne might be a clockmaker, a lighthouse keeper, or a librarian. But if you ask ChatGPT or any of the other popular large language models to tell you a story, there’s a good chance he’ll appear, unbidden. And Elias’s stories are flooding the self-published AI generated book market, Youtube, and fake news sites.Software engineer Daniel May first noticed the Elias takeover earlier this year; he found that on Google Trends, people weren’t searching for “Elias Thorne” until late 2025. Searches for the name really spiked in early 2026, while the related query “lighthouse keeper” also started trending upward in the last few years. He tested a few chatbots, including Grok, Deepseek, and Gemini, with the prompt “tell me a story,” and the chatbots frequently started with similar stories about lighthouses, clockmakers, or explorers. In late May, researchers Sil Hamilton and David Mimno at Cornell University’s Department of Information Science published their paper, “Elias in the Lighthouse, Again?” on the preprint repository arXiv. They sampled 20,000 total stories from OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini, and the Allen Institute for AI's chatbot using five prompts, and found that the same 11 words—names like Elias, Mara, and Elara, and occupations like lighthouse keeper, clockmaker, and librarian—appear in more than 88% of generated stories, with little difference between models. Unite.ai covered the study shortly after it was published. The researchers posit in their paper that these themes show up so often in part because of the models’ safety and alignment tuning. “Model development today is like a big family tree. Most models are related to each other because developers synthesize a lot of training data with models even from different companies,” Hamilton told me in an email. He, Mimno, and their colleague Rebecca M. M. Hicke found this in a 2025 paper where they looked at specific words used across models. OpenAI’s first ChatGPT model, GPT-3.5, is the root of the family tree because it was used to make WildChat, a training set that’s since been used to make other training sets. “WildChat contains 1 million real conversations with ChatGPT, and 166 of these contain the name ‘Elias’ like here and here,” Hamilton added. “These are written in that familiar ‘lighthouse’ style. Models trained on WildChat copied this style, and developers unwittingly replicated it when using those models to generate newer datasets. It's like a virus.” 0:00 /2:36 1× Elias has since escaped chatbot containment. May noticed Elias Thorne popping up on Amazon as an author of alt-medicine cancer handbooks, a 2026 YouTube-algorithm guide, a book on Greek mythology, and a psychological thriller novella. “No human writes all of those,” May wrote in his blog post. “The first one sits in territory where bad advice causes real harm. The mode-collapsed name from the chat window is now a byline appearing across genres.”When I searched Elias Thorne on Amazon, I found Elias as the protagonist in fantasy books and producing music, too: he’s “a brilliant but cynical archaeologist with a knack for unearthing what powerful institutions want to keep hidden” in one fantasy series, or a musical artist making ambient listening albums of birds and nature sounds. Fittingly, one Elias Thorne with an AI-generated author photo is also churning out AI grift books. In the last few years, AI-generated books have flooded Amazon’s self-publishing offerings, especially, with books containing dangerous misinformation and messy errors taking over the platform. AI-generated books are also making librarians’ jobs hell.Elias has also escaped to the Youtube slop world: in one video from the channel Moments That Moved the World, a slop-illustrated story features the plight of “83-year-old Sergeant Major Elias Thorne.” On the AI slop site Wonderful Museums, “Snake Museum Owner Shot By Wife: Unpacking the Tragic Incident at Thorne’s Reptile Sanctuary” spins Elias Thorne’s story as a man shot by his wife. On another slop site called Tatticle, the “wealthiest man in Ohio,” Elias Thorne, died “with exactly twelve dollars in his pocket.” In these stories, Elias is usually a tragic figure, an aggrieved and unfairly-treated old man. He’s a similar character in a short story published by the BBC as a finalist in its 2024/2025 children's writing competition—but Elias is a real name, and could feasibly still be the subject of a human-written story (and there have been no accusations of the BBC’s children’s writing competition being infiltrated by AI slop). But with all the world’s literature as its training data, why do LLMs seem to default so often to the lighthouse? It comes down to how model makers try to safety-align and sanitize their outputs. “We found many stories in WildChat are not safe for work. This led us to hypothesize that models going through alignment are preferring a small slice of WildChat stories, like a bottleneck,” Hamilton said. “It isn't that Elias stories are frequent, but that they're just so safe.” He said the researchers plan to explore this theory further in future research. As for Elias, there is one example I’ve found of him existing pre-generative AI, as a time traveling mad scientist in the 1980’s trading card series Dinosaurs Attack!. And a real-life Elias that comes close to the stories told by LLMs did actually exist, Hamilton found—Elias Allen was a 16th century clockmaker in London.

Politician With No Better Ideas Decides To Campaign On Improving The Economy
DENVER—Frustrated by his fixation on a totally irrelevant topic at the expense of issues that actually matter to Americans, numerous voters told reporters this week that congressional candidate Ted Botello was campaigning for office with no better ideas than improving the economy. “This guy won’t stop talking about how he’s going to make life more affordable, like anyone even cares about that bullshit,” said Marcie Cagle, adding that just once she’d love to hear Botello attempt to explain away a series of sexual transgressions or savagely scapegoat an entire culture for no reason. “Seriously, he’d better start railing against an eighth-grade trans girl who wants to play middle school volleyball, because this nonsense about how people like me shouldn’t have to choose between healthcare and paying rent is not cutting it. If he’s going to just sit there going on and on about the needs of everyday Americans, then he’ll never connect with average voters such as myself. But hey, who knows? Maybe today’s the day he stops blabbing about my sky-high grocery bills and finally condemns the woke apocalypse.” At press time, Cagle was seen shaking her head as Botello unveiled a four-part plan for lowering gas prices. IWasPoisoned.com Introduces New Teen Accounts
CLAYMONT, DE—As part of its effort to make the popular consumer-led food safety platform kid-friendly and provide parents with tools for oversight, IWasPoisoned.com announced Friday that it was now offering teen accounts. “Starting today, new restrictions have been placed on the accounts of IWasPoisoned.com users under the age of 18, who will now need permission to view certain posts about contracting food poisoning at local restaurants,” said website CEO and founder Patrick Quade, adding that a feature called Family Poison Center would allow parents to decide both how many and what kinds of user-generated posts about nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting their children could see. “First and foremost, we hope that IWasPoisoned.com can be a safe, supportive place where children who have eaten tainted food and contracted a dangerous bout of norovirus, listeria, or E. coli can describe that experience to strangers in graphic detail. We are also committed to blocking various keywords that are harmful to teens, including ‘severe gas,’ ‘bloody stool,’ ‘hospital,’ and ‘Walmart Supercenter.’ ” The introduction of teen accounts follows an incident last year in which millions of children were reportedly exposed to an IWasPoisoned.com post written by the family of a 56-year-old man who ordered a barbacoa burrito from Chipotle and subsequently died in a pool of his own vomit, urine, and feces. Key considers imposing alcohol ban on England team
Director of cricket Rob Key is considering imposing an alcohol ban on the England team and has given no assurances Ben Stokes will remain Test captain.All-rounder Stokes and pace bowler Gus Atkinson will not play in the second Test against New Zealand after being involved in an incident in a London nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning. It is the latest alcohol-related controversy to hit the England team in the past six months. Six of the XI who played in the first-Test win over the Black Caps at Lord's have been caught in late-night misdemeanours.Following allegations of a drinking culture that dogged the winter, England introduced a midnight curfew, which was broken by Stokes and Atkinson. And Key admitted he may need to take further steps for England to regain the trust of the public."Do we need to look at have we been strict enough?" said Key. "Even when they win a game of cricket, is it now a time when there's just no alcohol at any time and at any stage?"I need to think through these things because I don't want to make a rash decision that hinders the team and creates a situation where they don't feel they can do anything."But the players now have to show the public they can be trusted. At this point it's hard to say they can."'In emergency, break glass' - England seek stability in RootStokes out of England squad, Root named captainStokes and Atkinson are the subject of an investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and have been made unavailable for at least the second Test, which begins on 17 June, pending the results of the inquiry. In a statement released on Monday, the ECB revealed the pair had broken the curfew. It later emerged that 35-year-old Stokes and Atkinson, 28, were present when a member of the England security staff was struck by Saracens rugby player Totoa Auvaa. The member of security was left bloodied and required medical attention.Asked by BBC Sport if he felt Stokes could resign the captaincy and retire from playing, Key said: "He has not intimated that to me."On whether Stokes will play for England again, Key responded: "I don't see why not."But on if Stokes will resume the captaincy, a position he has held since 2022, Key offered no guarantees."There are a lot of things to happen before then," said Key. "We've got to run the investigation, find out what happened exactly. We're in the midst of that at the moment. No decisions will be made until after that."Pressed on the subject, Key replied: "We just have to let this play out. No decisions have been made on our side."We've not given him an ultimatum, we're just speaking to him all the time to make sure that he is alright. It's obviously been a traumatic time for him over the last few days. When things are like that you don't want to make any decisions. Time is our ally in this."Harry Brook is Stokes' vice-captain in the Test team, yet the captaincy has been passed to Joe Root for the second Test beginning on Wednesday.Brook, 27, was involved in a nightclub controversy of his own when he was punched by a bouncer in Wellington in October, the night before leading England in a one-day international against New Zealand. And although Key said there were "many reasons" why Brook had not been chosen to skipper in the second Test, the former Kent batter admitted it would have been "pretty hard" to make Brook captain considering what happened in Wellington."That would be one of them," said Key, when asked if Wellington was a reason for Brook not to be elevated to Test captain. "That's not the main reason, that's for sure."I just don't feel it is the right time. That's a decision we came to. The Test captaincy is a massive job, even in an interim basis, especially going into this next Test match and everything Harry would have to deal with."The scrutiny of England's off-field activities during the winter was compounded by some dreadful performances on the field in a 4-1 Ashes series defeat. The ECB conducted a review into the tour of Australia, and opted to keep Key, Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum in their posts.Stokes' record as captain - 24 wins from 43 matches - gives him the best success rate of any skipper since 1981, but the constant stream of controversy is overshadowing his reign and at risk of damaging the reputation of the game in this country.Key denied this England team have become a "national embarrassment"."Stokes and McCullum are two of the most successful coach and captain partnership we've had," said Key. "This is one of the more successful England teams and that's what I like to reflect on."No, I don't think they've become a national embarrassment."The defeat of New Zealand at Lord's was a small step in the right direction for England following the Ashes defeat.Yet, once again, Key has been left to explain the actions of his players.Key, who played 15 Tests for England, said news of this latest indiscretion left him with a "sinking feeling, then anger, then disbelief".And he said he shares the frustration of any supporters who have grown tired of the behaviour of the England team."I can understand how they feel, because that is exactly how I feel with this situation," said Key. "Here I am again talking about this. That is incredibly frustrating, so I can only imagine how they feel."There is so much work that Ben and myself have put in, so much time spent on the phone – I think the overriding thing was shock that it was Ben involved in this."All the things that we have been working on, every single thing, whether it's within the dressing room, within that side, all the work we've tried to do to reconnect the game - it feels like we've just been smashed in the face with that."When you look at what has happened it is hard to defend anything that has gone on at the moment. I believe that we are on the right path, and that is really hard for me to be able to prove. We will be judged by our actions going forward, as we are being judged now."A shock group-stage exit? NBA Finals 2026: Taylor Swift, Timothée Chalamet, USMNT and die-hard Knicks fans react to historic Game 4 win
The New York Knicks pulled off the impossible Wednesday night. Despite being down 29 points in the third quarter, the Knicks somehow managed to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. They needed an iconic play to get the job done. With a little over four seconds to go, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson fired up an errant three in an attempt to take a late lead. But as the ball bounced off the rim, OG Anunoby seemingly came out of nowhere to tip it back into the basket, giving the Knicks an improbable 107-106 lead with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. Despite having a 0.5 percent chance to win Game 4, the Knicks somehow pulled out the victory. The win gives the team a 3-1 lead in the Finals, and a chance to close it out Saturday, which would give the Knicks their first championship since 1973. Given the nature of the team’s comeback, the iconic last shot and the Knicks’ lengthy championship drought, there were plenty of huge reactions to the team’s legendary comeback in Game 4. As you might expect, the celebrities at the game played a pretty big role in the celebrations. Taylor Swift, who sat on celebrity row with Knicks super-fan Mariska Hargitay, was seen after the game jumping and cheering in celebration.Hargitay, on the other hand, looked emotionally exhausted after seeing her favorite team pull off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history.Timothée Chalamet made sure to let the world know he still believed in “Knicks in five” after the contest. He and Ben Stiller kept the celebration rocking after the game too. At least two former New York sports stars got in on the action. Former Knick Iman Shumpert celebrated the victory by walking through the streets of New York wearing his own jersey.Former New York Mets star Matt Harvey, who was at the game, called it the “best sporting event I have ever been to.”Caution: NSFW language in video.Athletes in other sports also erupted in cheers when the Knicks pulled out the win. The entire USMNT went ballistic after Anunoby’s shot went in. Wrestling legend Paul Heyman complimented the NBA “scriptwriters” on their decision to let the Knicks win Game 4.And then there were Knicks fans. Whether they were at a watch party or literally in the airport, they found ways to celebrate the victory. And as an honorable mention, here’s Larry David reacting to a key Josh Hart miss with under two minutes to go in the contest. The reaction ultimately got lost in the shuffle after the Knicks completed the comeback, but it was the perfect encapsulation of the stress and emotions Knicks fans felt as their team was trying to charge back into the game. The Knicks will look to close out the NBA Finals on Saturday in Game 5. The reactions should be even bigger should New York pull it off.

Ingrid Christina moved to Canada because of Trump. But they still found Pride in their hometown.
LGBTQ Nation will be sharing your pictures of Pride throughout May and June. Submit your own if you want to be included! Last August, Ingrid Christina packed up with their “kiddo” and moved from D.C. to Canada. Credit Trump with the relocation. Related This photojournalist usually shot crime scenes. But he took this “joyful” picture of 1978 Pride. The writer and former librarian had a hard time watching Trump put his stamp on the city, from the deployment of National Guard troops to putting his name and likeness everywhere you looked, affixed to the Kennedy Center (now illegally), and in glaring portraits hanging from federal buildings. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today “All of that stuff is really troubling,” they say. “Some people have been able to slough it off, but I have a harder time doing that. So, when the opportunity came up to go to Canada, we took it.” But not before a tour with the “kiddo” of some of Christina’s favorite spots in the federal city. “We had a magical day visiting the MLK Library and rooftop terrace, the National Building Museum, the National Mall, and riding the Metro. Then, just ten days later, the National Guard went in. There were tanks and armed soldiers right where we had been. And even a shooting. It was chilling to see that on the news.” It’s not the Washington that Christina had called home for over 20 years. There are, however, a few oases left in the city free from Trump’s visage. The D.C. Public Library is one of them. Earlier in the summer, mom and son stopped by the Georgetown neighborhood branch, where Christina had worked some years before and knew several former colleagues. The occasion was the branch’s “Be-YOU-tiful” celebration of all things kids and books. It coincided with Capital Pride. “That day at ‘Be-YOU-tiful’ in Georgetown was all wonder and smiles,” Christina recalls. “There was a kids’ parade around the neighborhood to kick it off, and then it turned into a joyful, affirming, rainbowful block party. The event was for kids, so it was really just a little slice of the kind and welcoming world we all want to live in.”“I just kept telling the staff, ‘Thank you, we needed this!’ And we really did.” “To be honest, I had been feeling an increasing sense of dread with every discriminatory word coming from the administration. Some of the threats aimed at the LGBTQ+ community felt almost like personal attacks, specific to me and my family. So, it was a big relief for me and my kid to be able to see all the brave people who were willing to stand up for what was good and right.” It turns out, though, that even a small neighborhood celebration in D.C. associated with Pride wasn’t immune to Trump’s chill. “One librarian told me she’d been doxxed on Fox News over the event,” Christina shares. “But they weren’t deterred. They throw a great party.” More importantly, those librarians are guardians of what Christina calls “a true beacon of democracy.” “The attacks on libraries are unfortunate and make it harder for staff to serve their communities, but they’re not at all surprising. Public libraries are non-commercial spaces that truly welcome everyone. And they work hard to make sure that all their patrons can see themselves reflected in the collection. It’s the opposite of the closed, controlled societies that authoritarians want. “Dictators always go after books,” Christina says. The kiddo’s mom then recalls a moment after he took his commemorative pic of the day with Christina holding up the rainbow. There was a “feeling of freedom,” they say. “We’d just had ice pops and made rainbow bracelets. My kid was getting a butterfly temporary tattoo, and ‘True Colors’ was playing on the speakers.” “For me, it was a joyful moment of calm before a coming storm.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.

Mr. Met Embarks On Missionary Trip To Spread Mets Fandom To Uncontacted Amazon Tribes
NEW YORK—Touting the initiative as a way to “bring love for the Orange and Blue to the places that need it most,” the New York Mets front office announced Thursday that franchise mascot Mr. Met had embarked on a missionary trip to the Amazon rainforest to spread Mets fandom to the region’s uncontacted tribes. “As we speak, Mr. Met is canoeing down the Envira River deep in the heart of the southwestern Amazon, distributing Mets hats, foam fingers, and Doc Gooden rookie cards to people who have never even heard of David Wright,” said Mets owner Steve Cohen, who showed reporters photographs of the baseball-headed mascot handing out free Mike Piazza jerseys to the Javari Valley’s Arrow People and drawing a Citi Field diagram in the soil with a stick as fascinated Mashco Piro tribe members looked on. “We firmly believe that by teaching these peoples to sing ‘Meet The Mets’ and explaining to them why the offseason additions of Bo Bichette and Freddy Peralta might make the team into playoff contenders, Mr. Met can create a passionate New York Mets fan base in some of the most isolated cultures on the planet.” Cohen concluded the press conference by acknowledging that Mr. Met had narrowly escaped death at the hands of a hunter-gatherer society that had already become diehard Colorado Rockies fans following an earlier visit from Dinger the triceratops. Taylor Swift Urges Travis Kelce To Whittle Down Trampolines On Registry To One
LEAWOOD, KS—Remarking that it seemed “a tad excessive” to own more than a dozen of the recreational bouncing devices, pop star Taylor Swift reportedly urged fiancé Travis Kelce on Thursday to whittle down the number of trampolines on their wedding registry to one. “That’s a lot of trampolines, babe, and you can really only bounce on one at a time,” said Swift, who scrolled through the assortment of indoor and outdoor trampolines with a look of growing apprehension on her face as the Kansas City Chiefs tight end pleaded, “Come on, babe, 13 trampolines—it’s your favorite number!” “Hmm, it looks like you added both the Jumpflex Hero and the Jumpflex Mega. Is there really a difference between the two? I get that making one floor of our house nothing but trampolines would be fun, but how often do you think we’d really use that? No, Trav, they can’t be tax write-offs. That’s not how that works… Okay, fine, but can you at least cut it down to three?” At press time, sources said Kelce was vehemently arguing that a bouncy house didn’t count as a trampoline. Kentucky high school basketball team forfeit game over safety concerns
For varsity basketball in Kentucky, the rivalry between Brownsville Edmonson County (Ky.) and Leitchfield Grayson County (Ky.) has been a staple of the league slate for over a century. However, it was announced that Edmonson would be forfeiting their games against their fierce rivals this season. This came after two Edmonson players, Braden Wright, a senior, and Jonah Massey, a junior, announced their decision to transfer to Leitchfield. Following that, Edmonson’s Superintendent Brian Alexander made the decision to forfeit the games due to safety concerns.[ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ]“In the past several years, there have been multiple ejections in our games, which has been one of the hottest rivalries in Kentucky’s boys’ basketball. However, these recent transfers have taken this to another level, and I will not put my school and my school district in a position where something could happen at a basketball game that will cause Edmonson County to be in a negative light.” Alexander revealed in an email that was obtained by k105.com.With the announcement being made, the superintendent shared that the rivalry would continue with other sports, including football. In the varsity football year, both teams will continue to take each other on in a game that is known locally as the Tobacco Bowl.Last year, in the Tobacco Bowl, Grayson County took the overall lead in the rivalry between both teams at 25-24, with a 39-15 victory. And they had even more success on the varsity basketball front, with a historic season. With an 8-0 district record, they managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 KHSAA state championships. Ultimately losing out to Louisville St Xavier. (Ky.) Adding both of Edmonson’s leading scorers next year, they will combine with three-star WKU commit Jack Logsdon.Last season, Logsdon helped guide the Cougars to the state championships as their leading scorer, averaging 21.0 points and 6.8 rebounds. He was also named at an all-state level in his junior season, going into his senior year with the team’s new additions. After the recent announcement, the Cougars will start the season with a 2-0 district record. Their road back to the state championships will start with the season in late November, with the postseason set to tip off in mid-March in Lexington.

British tennis player Dan Evans announces retirement after Wimbledon
British tennis player Dan Evans has announced he will retire following this summer’s Wimbledon, at the age of 36.A former world No 21, Evans is best known for his exploits representing Great Britain at the Davis Cup, where he was part of the winning team in 2015. He also memorably teamed up with Andy Murray in the men’s doubles at the Paris Olympics in 2024, reaching the quarter-finals in the Scot’s final professional tournament. Evans won two ATP Tour titles, his biggest the ATP 500 in Washington in 2023, and the ATP 250 Murray River Open in 2021, when he beat Felix Auger-Aliassime to lift the trophy. Now the British No 10, Evans posted a collage of photos from his career to Instagram on Thursday alongside the announcement of his impending retirement. He wrote: “After an incredible journey, I wanted to share some personal news with you all. I will be retiring from professional tennis following this year’s Wimbledon championships. “This sport has given me everything. The friendships, the experiences, the battles and even the hard days were special in hindsight. I have loved every single minute of being a professional tennis player. To my parents, my wife and my family, thank you for your unwavering support through every high and low. None of this would have been possible without your support. “To every coach, trainer, physio, sponsor and member of my team over the years, the list is too long to name individually, but each of you played a part in shaping my career and I am truly grateful. “Representing Great Britain in both Davis Cup and the Olympics remains the greatest honour of my career and something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I’m looking forward to finishing on a high across these final two tournaments and giving everything I have one last time. Thank you for the support. Evo.”Evans has played sparsely in 2026, losing in the first round in qualifying at the Australian Open in January and again to French teenager Daniel Jade in Roland-Garros qualifying last month, while he also lost in qualifying at the Little Rock Challenger event. He has slipped down the rankings in recent years, falling from 58th in the world to 176th after he chose not to defend his Washington singles title and instead play Olympic doubles with Murray, and is currently ranked 217th. He will require a wildcard to enter the main draw at Wimbledon. After winning in Washington he rose to a career high of 21st in the world, while he also reached two Masters 1000 semi-finals, at Monte-Carlo in 2021 - where he defeated then-world No 1 Novak Djokovic en route to the last four - and the Canadian Open the following year. His career was interrupted by a one-year ban after he tested positive for cocaine in 2017. He denied taking the drug, which is banned in competition, during a tournament, saying it had entered his system accidentally after he put it in his washbag, where it contaminated some permitted medication also stored there which he then took in-competition.

Côte d’Ivoire World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best Bets
Côte d’Ivoire World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best BetsIvory Coast enter the 2026 World Cup as long-shots for the outright title, priced at 300/1 with the best available price sitting at 250/1, placing them 27th in a 48-team market. That positioning is honest: the Elephants have never won the World Cup and have never survived a group stage. Yet under I. Kamara, this is arguably the most balanced and best-prepared Ivorian squad in years, having qualified with a flawless CAF record and arrived carrying genuine Premier League and Serie A quality throughout the spine. For bettors, the outright is a speculative flutter at best. The smarter angles lie in group-stage and round-of-32 markets, where Ivory Coast’s draw with Germany, Ecuador and Curaçao offers a realistic path to the knockout rounds. The group winner price of 6/1 reflects a competitive but winnable section rather than a mismatch.Best Pick — To Win Group E (6/1, best available price)Confidence — 3/5Best Odds — 6/1Reason — A clean CAF qualifying record and attacking depth from Amad Diallo and Simon Adingra give Ivory Coast a realistic case to top a group containing Germany, Ecuador and Curaçao. Ivory Coast’s World Cup HistoryIvory Coast return to the World Cup for the fourth time in 2026, ending a 12-year absence that saw them miss both the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. Their first appearance came in 2006, followed by 2010 and 2014, and on each occasion they were eliminated at the group stage despite performing creditably in difficult groups. The 2014 edition in Brazil represents their most recent outing, and Cote d’Ivoire World Cup odds have lengthened in the years since as the squad went through a transitional period.Continental form has compensated. Ivory Coast lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992, 2015 and 2023, the most recent triumph coming on home soil and confirming the programme’s upward trajectory. The 2026 campaign offers the first genuine chance to break the group-stage ceiling on the global stage, with a squad that blends AFCON winners with a new generation of players based at some of Europe’s top clubs. The table below summarises Ivory Coast’s World Cup record across their previous appearances.Highbet 5.0Welcome BonusBet £10 and Get a £20 Free Bet BET NOWCurrent Ivory Coast Squad and Manager AnalysisI. Kamara’s Likely Ivory Coast ShapeIvory Coast are expected to line up in a 4-3-3 that mirrors the system used during the successful 2023 AFCON campaign. The shape allows full-backs to advance into wider channels while a three-man midfield provides both defensive cover and forward drive. The tactical question for Kamara centres on whether to prioritise defensive solidity against Germany and sacrifice early width, or to back the attacking full-backs to push on and use the 4-3-3 as an attacking tool from the first whistle. In possession, Ivory Coast build patiently from the back through centre-backs Evan Ndicka and Odilon Kossounou, who are both comfortable carrying the ball forward. The side typically transitions into wide 1-v-1 situations for their wingers, then looks to exploit penalty-area deliveries with late runners from midfield. Set pieces are a meaningful weapon given the physical presence of Kossounou and Ndicka from corners.Predicted XI (4-3-3): Fofana; Singo, Kossounou, Ndicka, Konan; Sangaré, Kessié, S. Fofana; Adingra, Guessand, A. DialloKey Players To WatchAmad Diallo (Manchester United, FW) — The 23-year-old was Ivory Coast’s top scorer in CAF qualifying with four goals and brings direct running, creativity and the ability to operate both wide and centrally. His club form in 2024-25 elevated his profile considerably and he arrives at his first World Cup as the squad’s standout attacking threat.Ibrahim Sangaré (Nottingham Forest, MF) — The 28-year-old ball-winner is the engine of the midfield, winning possession and driving forward with consistent power. His partnership with Franck Kessié gives Ivory Coast both aggression and technical control in the centre of the pitch.Franck Kessié (Al-Ahli, MF) — With 103 caps and 15 international goals, Kessié is the most experienced outfield presence in the squad. His box-to-box energy and ability to contribute at both ends remain vital, and he scored twice in qualifying.Odilon Kossounou (Atalanta, DF) — The 25-year-old centre-back combines pace with aerial authority and has become the fulcrum of the defensive line. His partnership with Ndicka is among the more reliable central defensive pairings in African football at this level.Simon Adingra (Monaco, FW) — One of the breakout stars of AFCON 2023, Adingra’s direct dribbling and willingness to run at defenders creates space for those around him. Now 24, he is at the peak of his physical condition and expected to start wide left.Injury And Selection WatchNo significant injury absences have been confirmed ahead of the tournament. The squad announced for 2026 is at full strength, with the 26-man group covering all positions with experienced options and young alternatives. Nicolas Pépé, 31, retains his place with Villarreal and adds veteran experience and set-piece delivery, though his role is likely to be rotational rather than a guaranteed starter. The main selection dilemma for Kamara is likely at forward, where Evann Guessand, Yan Diomande and Bazoumana Touré all offer different profiles and will compete for places in the starting eleven.Ivory Coast’s Route To The FinalGroup E is competitive but not unnavigable. Ivory Coast face Ecuador in Philadelphia on 14 June, then travel to Toronto to meet Germany on 20 June, before a final group game against Curaçao back in Philadelphia on 25 June. A win over Ecuador in the opener would give Ivory Coast significant momentum and allow them to approach the Germany fixture with flexibility. Curaçao, making their tournament debut, are the group’s weakest side, and three points from that game should be attainable regardless of other results.Germany are the likely group favourites and represent Ivory Coast’s toughest examination, but the knockout-round format in 2026 means the third-placed finisher in each group can still advance, so the margin for error is slightly wider than in previous editions. If Ivory Coast finish second in Group E, they would enter the round of 32 as slight underdogs but with a genuine chance of progressing. A quarter-final appearance would be historically unprecedented and would require beating a top-eight side.Realistically, the value in Ivory Coast World Cup 2026 betting lies in group-stage and early knockout markets rather than deep-run outright punts. The 6/1 available on winning Group E reflects the difficulty of getting past Germany, but beating Ecuador and Curaçao while remaining competitive against Germany is within reach for this squad. The stage-of-elimination market, specifically exiting in the round of 32 or later, represents a more measured angle than the 300/1 outright.Ivory Coast World Cup Betting Markets ExplainedSeveral markets are worth considering for Ivory Coast World Cup 2026 tips beyond the headline outright price. Below is a guide to the main options and what the pricing implies.Outright Winner (300/1, best price 250/1) — Ivory Coast have never progressed past the group stage and face Germany in the group. This is a speculative, low-stakes inclusion at best. To Win Group E (6/1) — Requires beating Ecuador and Curaçao and ideally avoiding defeat to Germany. Realistic if Amad Diallo is in form and the defence holds its qualifying-level solidity. To Reach The Round Of 16 — With a third-place route available under 2026 format, Ivory Coast qualifying for the knockouts from Group E is a plausible outcome and likely priced around evens to 6/4 at leading operators. To Reach The Quarter-Finals — Would require beating a second-round opponent after escaping the group. History and current pricing make this an outsider play, likely available in the 8/1-12/1 range.Top Ivory Coast Goalscorer — Amad Diallo is the natural favourite having led qualifying with four goals. Simon Adingra and Evann Guessand are the main alternatives for those seeking a longer price.Stage Of Elimination (Group Stage) — Given three previous group-stage exits and a tough group, the market for Ivory Coast to exit at the group stage is likely to attract the most volume among realistic outcomes. Best Ivory Coast World Cup BetsMain Pick: To Win Group E (6/1, best available price) — Ivory Coast’s CAF qualifying record was exceptional, finishing unbeaten with five wins and one draw across six matches, scoring 13 and conceding none. Amad Diallo leads an attack capable of hurting Ecuador and Curaçao, and the 6/1 price on the group winner market offers reasonable value for a side with clear attacking quality and a settled defensive structure. The Germany fixture is the obvious obstacle, but two wins from the other two games could be enough.Lower-Risk Pick: To Progress From Group E (best available price) — The expanded 2026 format means a third-place finish is still enough to reach the round of 32 in most scenarios. Ivory Coast have the squad depth, qualifying pedigree and tactical discipline to accumulate enough points to advance, and this market removes the need to beat Germany directly. Back Ivory Coast World Cup 2026 progression at the best available price as the primary, lower-variance selection.Betfred5.0Welcome BonusBet and Get New Bettor Bonus of £50 in Free Bets BET NOWHighbet 4.9Welcome BonusBet £10 and Get a £20 Free Bet BET NOWParimatch4.8Welcome BonusSports Welcome Offer Bet and Get for a £20 Free Bet BET NOWBest Ivory Coast World Cup Odds By SportsbookOdds across the main Ivory Coast World Cup betting markets are listed below. The Ivory Coast opener against Ecuador in Philadelphia kicks off at 19:00 local time on 14 June, with the Germany fixture in Toronto following on 20 June and the Curaçao game closing the group on 25 June.World Cup outright and group markets are typically available from leading operators well before the tournament begins, and prices will shift as injury news, squad selections and early results emerge. Norway World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best Bets
Norway World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best BetsNorway arrive at the 2026 World Cup as one of the more intriguing mid-market outright candidates, priced at 30/1 with the best available odds trimmed to 25/1 at the shortest end of the market. That places them ninth in the overall tournament winner market, ranking ahead of a number of more experienced nations and reflecting genuine expectation built on a flawless European qualifying campaign.Under Ståle Solbakken, this squad has delivered a 100% qualifying record across eight matches, scoring 37 goals in the process. With Erling Haaland leading the attack and Martin Ødegaard pulling the strings in midfield, Norway carry more recognised quality than at any point in their modern history. Whether that translates at a major tournament is the central question for bettors.Best Pick — Norway To Reach the Quarter-FinalsConfidence — 3/5Best Odds — 30/1 (Outright Winner)Reason — A favourable group draw and world-class forward line give Norway a clear path to the knockout rounds, but limited major tournament experience caps outright ambitions. Norway’s World Cup HistoryNorway have appeared at three World Cups in total, with their best finish coming at the 1998 tournament in France, where they reached the Round of 16. That campaign is best remembered for their group-stage victory over Brazil, a 2-1 win that remains arguably the most celebrated result in Norwegian football history. They were subsequently eliminated by Italy in the knockout round. Before 1998, Norway appeared at the 1938 and 1994 tournaments, with the 1994 edition in the United States marking a previous era of qualification success. Since 1998, the country endured a prolonged absence from World Cup finals, failing to qualify through multiple cycles. The 2026 edition in the United States, Canada and Mexico marks Norway’s first World Cup appearance since France 1998, a return built on the most dominant qualifying campaign in the country’s footballing history. The table below covers their most recent World Cup cycles.Highbet 5.0Welcome BonusBet £10 and Get a £20 Free Bet BET NOWCurrent Norway Squad and Manager AnalysisStåle Solbakken’s Likely Norway ShapeSolbakken, who has been in charge since 2020, operates primarily from a 4-3-3 base, though the system is flexible enough to shift into a 4-2-3-1 or a two-striker shape when Alexander Sørloth partners Haaland up front. The approach blends a compact defensive structure with fast, direct attacking transitions, designed to exploit Haaland’s movement and Ødegaard’s creative passing range. In possession, Ødegaard functions as the team’s technical hub, linking midfield to attack and dictating the tempo. Wide players provide width and pace, with Julian Ryerson often pushing forward from right-back to create overloads and occasionally produce asymmetrical build-up shapes resembling a three-at-the-back. Set pieces and vertical transitions are central features of how Norway manufacture chances.Key Players to WatchErling Haaland (centre-forward, Manchester City) is Norway’s primary goal threat and the most scrutinised player in the squad. He scored 23 goals during European qualifying alone and carries the expectations of a nation on his shoulders at his first senior World Cup. Haaland has 55 international goals from 50 caps, a remarkable return that makes him one of the leading candidates for the Golden Boot.Martin Ødegaard (attacking midfielder, Arsenal) captains the side and is the creative engine behind Norway’s fluid attacking play. His 68 caps bring experience and leadership, and his ability to connect midfield with the forward line is central to how Solbakken’s system functions.Antonio Nusa (winger, RB Leipzig) is widely considered the squad’s most exciting emerging talent. The 21-year-old scored five goals in qualifying and brings pace and directness in wide areas that complement the more structured play through the middle.Sander Berge (midfielder, Fulham) provides the defensive balance in midfield, shielding the back four and offering composure in possession across 66 caps. Alexander Sørloth (forward, Atletico Madrid) adds a physically imposing alternative up front, with 26 international goals from 72 caps making him a reliable option from the bench or as a partner for Haaland.Injury and Selection WatchThere are no confirmed major injury absences from the published squad for the tournament. Oscar Bobb (midfielder, Fulham) and Thelo Aasgaard (midfielder, Rangers) provide further options in the middle of the park, while goalkeeper Orjan Nyland (Sevilla) brings experience across 71 caps as the likely first choice between the posts.Solbakken’s primary selection challenge is how to best deploy the attacking depth available. Jørgen Strand Larsen (forward, Crystal Palace) and Sørloth give Norway genuine options to alter their front line mid-game, which adds a useful tactical dimension heading into the knockout rounds.Norway’s Route to the FinalNorway have been drawn in Group I alongside France, Senegal and Iraq, which is a demanding section on paper. Their opening match is against Iraq in Boston on 16 June, a fixture they will be expected to approach as three points. The second group game, against Senegal in New York/New Jersey on 22 June, is the key test of whether Norway can handle a physically intense, well-organised African side. The final group game is against France in Boston on 26 June, a match that could determine Group I’s winner.Progressing from the group as runners-up is a realistic base case, which would likely set up a Round of 32 tie against a third-place qualifier before a potential Round of 16 clash with a contender from an adjacent group. A quarter-final appearance would represent a significant achievement and would almost certainly require defeating a top-eight nation. Given Norway’s limited recent major tournament experience, that stage feels like a ceiling rather than a floor at current odds. The Norway World Cup odds at 30/1 for the outright arguably undervalue the difficulty of the route to a final, but they also reflect a squad capable of genuine upset results. The stage-of-elimination markets, specifically reaching the quarter-finals or semi-finals, offer a more measured way to back Norway’s potential without the considerable risk attached to an outright winner wager at a tournament they are entering for the first time in 28 years.Norway World Cup Betting Markets ExplainedBeyond the outright winner market, there are several alternative ways to back Norway at the 2026 World Cup, each offering different levels of risk and reward. The markets below cover the key options relevant to Norway’s realistic tournament trajectory.Outright Winner — Norway are available at 30/1, ninth in the overall market. Requires winning six consecutive matches against the tournament’s elite. To Reach the Semi-Finals — A more attainable target given Norway’s group draw. Reaching the last four would constitute a major achievement but is not beyond a squad of this quality on form.To Reach the Final — A longer-shot proposition, priced accordingly. Norway would likely need to eliminate at least one top-four favourite to get there. To Win Group I — Available at 3/1 and arguably the most straightforward market for Norway given Iraq are winnable and Senegal represent a manageable obstacle, though France are the group’s dominant force.Top Norway Goalscorer — Haaland is priced at 17/1 for the Golden Boot and is the clear in-team favourite. Nusa at 699/1 and Oscar Bobb at 699/1 are speculative options for those seeking depth plays.Player of the Tournament — Haaland is available at 25/1, a price that reflects both his potential and the competition from other world-class attackers in the field.Stage of Elimination — For bettors who believe Norway exit at the Round of 16, this market may offer the sharpest value given the Group I schedule.Best Norway World Cup BetsMain Pick: Norway To Win Group I (3/1) — Norway’s qualifying record, eight wins from eight with 37 goals scored, sets them apart from Senegal and Iraq in terms of recent competitive form. A draw against France in the final group game would be sufficient if Norway handle their first two fixtures, and Solbakken’s side have shown they can compete with top European nations, as their 4-1 qualifying win away to Italy demonstrated. At 3/1, winning the group is a worthwhile primary bet with clear pathway logic.Lower-Risk Pick: Erling Haaland Top Norway Goalscorer (To Score At Least Once) — Haaland scored 23 qualifying goals and carries 55 international goals from 50 caps into this tournament. While the Golden Boot market at 17/1 carries outright risk, any market centred on Haaland finding the net in Norway’s group-stage fixtures represents the most evidence-backed selection in this squad’s range of options. Norway’s group matches, including fixtures against Iraq, Senegal and France, are expected to be covered across both channels, with streaming available via BBC iPlayer and ITVX for viewers who prefer to watch online. For Norway World Cup betting, the outright and group markets are typically posted well in advance of the tournament, though prices can shift considerably once squads are confirmed and opening group results are known. Haiti World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best Bets
Haiti World Cup 2026 Odds, Predictions & Best BetsHaiti return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974, priced at 2500/1 to lift the trophy and ranked 47th of 48 teams in the outright winner market. That price reflects reality: Group C also contains Brazil and Morocco, two sides with genuine expectations of a deep run, and Scotland. Progressing from the group would itself be a historic achievement for a nation making only their second World Cup appearance in over 50 years.Best Pick: To Win Group C (Haiti)Confidence: 1/5Best Odds: 99/1Reason: Haiti face Brazil and Morocco in the group stage, making any deep run highly unlikely, but the 2500/1 outright and 99/1 group winner prices are for entertainment only given the group composition.Haiti’s World Cup HistoryHaiti’s World Cup story is a short one. Their sole previous appearance came at the 1974 tournament in West Germany, where they were placed in a group alongside Italy, Poland and Argentina. The campaign produced one of the competition’s enduring moments when forward Emmanuel Sanon put Haiti ahead against Italy, though the side ultimately lost all three matches and finished bottom of the group. It would be their only World Cup for more than half a century. In the decades between 1974 and 2026, Haiti repeatedly fell short in CONCACAF qualifying despite reaching advanced rounds on several occasions. The 2026 edition marks a genuine breakthrough, with the squad qualifying automatically through the CONCACAF third round. Their best recent major-tournament showing was a semi-final at the 2019 Gold Cup, though the 2025 Gold Cup ended at the group stage. The table below covers the last six World Cup cycles.Highbet 5.0Welcome BonusBet £10 and Get a £20 Free Bet BET NOWCurrent Haiti Squad and Manager AnalysisS. Migné’s Likely Haiti ShapeSébastien Migné, the Frenchman appointed in 2024, has guided Haiti through the final stages of qualifying and into the World Cup. With no fixed home ground available due to Haiti’s ongoing security situation, the team has played “home” qualifiers in Curaçao, which has shaped a staff-driven preparation model that leans heavily on video work and diaspora recruitment. The expected shape is a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 that prioritises compact defending and fast vertical transitions rather than sustained possession, using Haiti’s mobile forwards to threaten on the counter. The key tactical question is whether Migné can organise the side well enough defensively to stay competitive in what is an extremely demanding group. A heavy 3-0 loss away to Honduras in qualifying showed that, when opponents can impose tempo and attack the full-backs, Haiti’s defensive shape can be overrun. Against Brazil and Morocco, that vulnerability will be tested at the highest level.Key Players to WatchDuckens Nazon (Esteghlal) is Haiti’s leading scorer with 44 goals in 78 caps and scored 5 goals in qualifying. A versatile attacker capable of playing centrally or from wide areas, he is the focal point of the Haitian attack. Frantzdy Pierrot (Çaykur Rizespor) has 34 goals in 51 caps and scored crucial goals in the qualifying campaign, giving Haiti a rare CONCACAF pairing of two genuinely prolific forwards.Danley Jean Jacques (Philadelphia Union) brings box-to-box energy from central midfield and scored 2 goals in qualifying. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolverhampton Wanderers) adds a Premier League-honed technical profile that can raise Haiti’s level in tight moments. In goal, veteran captain Johny Placide (Bastia), 38 years old and with 81 caps, provides experienced leadership and organises the back line.Louicius Deedson (FC Dallas) offers pace and directness from wide areas, having contributed 10 goals in 32 caps, while Wilson Isidor (Sunderland) adds a further European option in attack at 25 years old.Injury and Selection WatchNo specific injury concerns have been confirmed ahead of the tournament. The squad has been announced and includes the full complement of recognised starters. Selection decisions will likely centre on the balance between experience and energy in midfield, with Bellegarde’s fitness and availability a factor given his club commitments. Goalkeeper Johny Placide, at 38, faces competition from the younger Alexandre Pierre (Sochaux), though Placide’s experience and captaincy make him the likely starter.Haiti’s Route to the FinalHaiti’s World Cup 2026 group is among the toughest draws any team could face. Group C contains Brazil, Morocco and Scotland alongside Haiti. Brazil arrive as one of the pre-tournament favourites, Morocco are Africa’s strongest side and reached the semi-finals at the 2022 World Cup, and Scotland are a competitive European qualifier. Haiti are, by any objective measure, the fourth-ranked team in the group. The most realistic scenario is that Haiti target a positive result against Scotland on 13 June in Boston (Foxborough), their opening fixture. Matches against Brazil in Philadelphia on 19 June and Morocco in Atlanta on 24 June represent severe tests. Even progression beyond the group stage would require a combination of results that goes against the expected order. Haiti’s qualifying record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses across 8 games, with 15 goals scored and 11 conceded, reflects a side capable of beating lesser opposition but inconsistent against higher-ranked teams. If, against all probability, Haiti were to advance from the group, they would meet one of the top two sides from Group D in the Round of 32. A run to the knockout rounds would then quickly pit them against elite opposition. The realistic conclusion for most bettors is that the stage-of-elimination market (group stage exit) offers more logical value than the outright, even at 2500/1. Haiti’s World Cup 2026 odds reflect that the tournament is a landmark rather than a realistic title tilt.Haiti World Cup Betting Markets ExplainedFor those considering Haiti World Cup betting, there are several markets worth understanding before placing any stake. Most carry significant risk given the group draw, but they offer different ways to engage with the tournament.Outright Winner (2500/1): Haiti to win the World Cup. At market position 47 of 48, this is a long-odds flutter rather than a serious investment. The group composition makes even reaching the knockout rounds a major challenge. To Win Group C (99/1): Haiti to finish first in a group containing Brazil and Morocco. Effectively requires both those sides to have catastrophic tournaments. Extremely unlikely.Stage of Elimination – Group Stage: Haiti to exit at the group stage. This is the most likely outcome given the group draw and recent form against stronger opponents, and the corresponding odds will be short. This is the market that reflects reality most accurately.Top Haiti Goalscorer: Duckens Nazon leads the way as the obvious choice, having scored 5 of Haiti’s qualifying goals and carrying 44 international goals to his name. Frantzdy Pierrot is the second option at 34 international goals.Haiti to Reach the Round of 32: Qualifying from the group would be the story of the tournament for Haiti. The price for this outcome reflects just how difficult Group C is, though a result against Scotland on matchday one could keep the theoretical possibility open heading into the later fixtures.Haiti World Cup 2026 Predictions: Most analysts and markets agree that a group-stage exit is the most probable outcome. The interest for bettors lies in whether Haiti can secure a positive result against Scotland and cover spreads in the Morocco and Brazil fixtures rather than in any outright market at realistic odds.Best Haiti World Cup BetsMain Pick: Top Haiti Goalscorer – Duckens Nazon Nazon is the clear first choice. He scored 5 goals during qualifying, leads Haiti’s all-time scoring charts with 44 goals in 78 caps, and is the central attacking reference point for S. Migné’s side. Frantzdy Pierrot and Louicius Deedson provide competition, but Nazon’s involvement in qualifying and his profile as a versatile, direct forward give him the clearest path to scoring in Haiti’s three group fixtures.Lower-Risk Pick: Haiti to Score in at Least One Group Match Haiti scored 15 goals in 8 qualifying matches and drew 1-1 with Iceland in a March 2026 friendly, showing they can trouble opponents even without a clean run of results. With three matches in the group stage, including a fixture against Scotland, the chance of registering at least one goal across the group phase is a more grounded proposition than any outright market. Haiti’s attacking options, particularly Nazon and Pierrot, give them the firepower to contribute to open games.Betfred5.0Welcome BonusBet and Get New Bettor Bonus of £50 in Free Bets BET NOWHighbet 4.9Welcome BonusBet £10 and Get a £20 Free Bet BET NOWParimatch4.8Welcome BonusSports Welcome Offer Bet and Get for a £20 Free Bet BET NOWBest Haiti World Cup Odds by SportsbookThe prices below represent the best available figures for the main Haiti World Cup 2026 betting markets at the time of writing. Availability varies by operator.Odds are subject to change, and some markets may not be available at every operator. How to Watch and Bet on the 2026 World CupAll three of Haiti’s group fixtures will be broadcast free-to-air in the United Kingdom. ITV and BBC hold the UK broadcast rights for the 2026 World Cup, with matches available on ITV, BBC One, and their respective streaming platforms ITVX and BBC iPlayer. Haiti’s opener against Scotland on 13 June, the Brazil fixture on 19 June, and the Morocco match on 24 June will all be accessible without a subscription. Kick-off times are listed in UTC-4 (Eastern Daylight Time), so UK viewers should add five hours to convert to BST.For those looking at Haiti World Cup 2026 betting tips and markets, outright and group-stage prices are typically posted well in advance of the tournament and may shift as team news, injuries and early match results emerge. The most significant price movement tends to occur after matchday one results, so bettors with an interest in stage-of-elimination or group-progression markets should monitor prices closely around the opening fixtures. Haiti’s best available price of 2500/1 for the outright is unlikely to shorten unless something extraordinary happens in the group stage.Responsible GamblingBetting should always be approached as a form of entertainment, not as a source of income. Opening of Canada-US bridge in Detroit that Trump threatened to block is delayed
The Gordie Howe Bridge is shown under construction between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, May 22, 2026. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File)2026-06-11T12:54:45Z WASHINGTON (AP) — The opening of a Canadian-U.S. bridge across the Detroit River that President Donald Trump previously threatened to block has been delayed due to “outstanding issues.”In a statement released Thursday ahead of a Friday ribbon-cutting ceremony at the bridge, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority says “Canada and the United States have agreed to delay the opening of the bridge, taking the necessary time to resolve any outstanding issues.”The Gordie Howe International Bridge is jointly owned by Canada and Michigan and was expected to open to traffic later this month. The bridge’s opening had remained in question for months after Trump, a Republican, in February demanded that Canada turn over at least half the ownership of the bridge to the U.S. federal government and agree to other unspecified demands in one of his many salvos over cross-border trade issues. Invitations for the bridge’s opening went out this week following a conversation between Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.“This project is a powerful example of bipartisan and international cooperation, and the governor looks forward to attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony when it happens,” a statement from Whitmer spokesperson Bobby Leddy said. UK defense secretary quits, says government isn’t willing to spend enough on military
John Healey, Britain's Minister of Defense arrives for a cabinet meeting inside 10 Downing Street in London, Tuesday, June 2, 2026. (AP Photo/Alberto Pezzali)2026-06-11T11:25:44Z LONDON (AP) — U.K. Defense Secretary John Healey unexpectedly resigned on Thursday, saying the government isn’t willing to spend enough on the military at a time of “rising threats.”The resignation is another blow to embattled Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who is already facing demands from Labour colleagues to step down.Healey told Starmer in a letter that the government’s Defense Investment Plan falls “well short of what is required at this dangerous time.”Publication of the plan has been delayed amid reports of disagreement between the defense ministry and the Treasury.Starmer has pledged to boost U.K. defense spending to 2.5% of gross domestic product by 2027 and 3% by 2034. But many in the military say that isn’t fast enough.“You have been unable, and the Treasury has been unwilling, to commit the resources that the nation needs to defend the country at this time of rising threats,” Healey wrote in his resignation letter. He said that the spending plan put forward by the Treasury would see defense spending rise to just 2.68% in 2030 after hitting 2.6% next year.Healey said that isn’t enough with growing demands on defense and British military commitments, citing the Iran war, Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine and threats from Moscow. “I am now left with no other option than to submit my resignation,” he said.Healey has been U.K. defense secretary since the Labour Party government was elected in July 2024, and he’s regarded as a capable and serious minister. Read More He has played a key role in bolstering international support for Ukraine and assembling a multinational coalition to help guarantee security if a ceasefire is reached. Healey also has helped spearhead a maritime security force that would help keep the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping if the Iran war ends. The United Kingdom and other NATO member nations have faced pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump to increase military spending. Trump has long questioned the value of the military alliance and complained that the United States provides security to European countries that don’t pull their weight. The U.K. military is also seeking to reverse years of decline in the face of an increasingly assertive Russia, which fully invaded its neighbor Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, and increasingly tests the defenses of European nations with overt and covert activity. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, informed of Healey’s resignation by The Associated Press during a news conference in Brussels, said that Healey is someone “I respect very much.”“What we are seeing all over the alliance is countries increasing their defense investments, and of course it is not easy, because in the end there is always a trade-off with other expenses, which are also important,” Rutte said.Healey’s resignation is likely to further stoke talk that Starmer’s days as prime minister are numbered. Already bruised by a series of missteps since Labour returned to power less than two years ago, Starmer has faced calls within his party’s ranks to stand down. He appears to have been unable to bridge the gap between Healey’s department and Treasury chief Rachel Reeves over defense spending.Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham is widely expected to challenge Starmer for the leadership, if he returns to Parliament in a June 18 special election.___Mark Carlson in Brussels, and Pan Pylas in London, contributed to this story. Gary Lineker weighs in on Rashford vs Gordon debate ahead for England
Gary Lineker weighs in on Rashford vs Gordon debate ahead for England Former Premier League striker Gary Lineker has settled the debate on who should start for England at the World Cup between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon.Rashford setbackOn Wednesday, news broke that Barcelona have opted against keeping Rashford permanently despite impressing during the 2025/26 season.Rashford contributed 14 goals and as many assists to help Barcelona retain their La Liga crown. Barcelona have an option to retain him for £26m, which expires on 15 June. However, the Blaugrana are not expected to take it up as they are not willing to meet this valuation.Barcelona are prepared to offer £13m or have him on another loan stint. United are refusing to budge on the terms that were initially agreed. The Catalan giants arrived at that conclusion following their signing of Gordon from Newcastle. In addition to being younger than Rashford, the winger is also viewed as stronger from a defensive standpoint. In response to the Barcelona news, Rashford removed all mention of the club from his social media pages, leaving England instead.Currently with the Three Lions ahead of their participation in the World Cup, it will be interesting to see who Thomas Tuchel sees as his starting left winger between Rashford and Gordon.According to Lineker, Rashford would be his pick but he feels Tuchel will likely prefer Gordon.Lineker’s viewSpeaking on The Rest Is Football on Netflix, Lineker remarked, “We just mentioned them both, Gordon and Rashford, because that looks like what it’s going to be [for England at the World Cup].”“I think it depends [on] how he [Tuchel] wants to play. If he wants to play with the press, I think he’ll go with Gordon because he’s very, very good at that.”“The statistics [for Gordon] back that up. I think if he goes for the best player, I think Rashford is unbelievably talented.”The former England international continued, “Do you know what I think he will do? I know this is our team, not Tuchel’s.”“I think Tuchel will start a lot of the time with Gordon because of that kind of energy that he can give and use Marcus more as an impact player. I think they will both feature quite a bit. We will see.”Lineker concluded, “I have to go Rashford. If he is in form and confident, and he has been really, really good for Barcelona, he has not overplayed, another one as well, but I think Rashford and Gordon will feature quite a lot.”England kickstart their World Cup campaign on Wednesday, 17 June, when they face Croatia in Arlington, Texas.Featured image Julian Finney via Getty Imagesonline pollsThe Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Bears HC Ben Johnson not worried about NFL figuring out his offense
For all the success he had as head coach of the Chicago Bears in his first season last year, Ben Johnson knows it will not be an easy climb to keep that consistency going. Known for his high-powered offense, Johnson was instrumental in turning around the development of quarterback Caleb Williams, which in turn led the Bears to an 11-win season, their first NFC North title since 2018, and their first playoff win since the 2010 season. While Johnson's success in his first season rejuvenated the Bears franchise and city of Chicago, it also put a target on him as opponents will be looking to figure out, and slow down, Johnson's offense and ability as a playcaller. This week, Johnson discussed how he plans to keep his offense ahead of opposing defenses."I feel like we're so multiple in what we do and what we've put on tape," Johnson said. "It's really not a huge concern of mine, of teams feeling like they’ve got a beat on it. I think when you’ve got a quarterback like we have too, there's a lot of unpredictability that comes along with it. As he continues to grow and develop, if the structure of the play is there for him, then he'll take it. But what he can do out of structure is really unique and I think it makes us even more difficult to defend. Our guys do a great job, our coaching staff with the self-scout, knowing what we've put on tape and how can we can continue to compliment that going forward. So it’s not something that we spend a whole lot of time on."Johnson has turned around the Bears franchise in just one season, but in order to keep himself and his team as a contender in the NFC, he'll have to keep his offense one step ahead of opposing defenses. One of the biggest credits Johnson received was building a strong coaching staff around him, and if they can turn it up a notch in their second year together, the Bears could find themselves in a favorable position to make noise this season.Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and InstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Bears HC Ben Johnson explains how he plans to stay ahead of opponents

2026 World Cup: Why chants dominate soccer … and why Americans are so terrible at them
The world's soccer fans are coming to America's beloved NFL stadiums, and they're bringing their drums, their scarves, and — most of all — their chants. Intricate, melodic multi-verse chants, sung in rough full-throated unison loud enough to overwhelm any feeble attempt at "U-S-A!" And we Americans will cheer for our guys in red, white and blue, and maybe we'll manage a "Ref you suck!" every now and then, but all the while we'll be looking over at the chanting masses from beyond our borders and think, That sure looks like fun. Chants are the lifeblood of soccer (or football, whichever) fandom, a communal expression of joy, sorrow, exultation, grief and humor — sometimes all at once. Every culture has its chants, but soccer has codified them into a vast, rich foundation of community. The brilliant, exhaustive website FanChants has catalogued tens of thousands of chants — Manchester United alone have 574 different ones. Chants can be deeply affecting, like Liverpool's "You'll Never Walk Alone," or deeply ridiculous, like "We Lose Every Week," chanted to deflate the latest club to knock off the home lads. ("You're nothing special, we lose every week" — the implication also being that we're loyal enough to keep coming back despite all the losing.) For so many reasons, though, the chant culture just hasn't taken hold in America. Just as there's a gulf between the United States men's team and the titans of the sport — Argentina, Spain, France, Brazil — on the pitch, there's a gulf in the stands, too. Naturally, an old tweet put it best:American sports fans: De-fense! De-fense!British sports fans: All right lads, I've just worked up a song to the tune of Debussy's Clair de Lune about an opposing player's drunk driving charge, I'll count us off:So how did we get here? What makes soccer chants so compelling to the rest of the world, and so difficult to pull off in America? Swill a pint, get your vocal cords warmed up, and sing along with me … A history of chants from the battlefield to the pitchHumans have a primal need to sing along together, promoting togetherness and camaraderie as a defense against everything from loneliness to foreign armies. Soldiers, in particular, have sung chants since the days of the ancient Greeks. Wartime chants — "Yankee Doodle" in the Revolutionary War, "Battle Hymn of the Republic" — are still used as the musical foundation for soccer chants all over the world. In recent decades, popular music, from "You'll Never Walk Alone" to "Country Roads," has inspired chants in stadiums located a long way from West Virginia. Giles Barkwill, the co-founder of FanChants, notes that three elements combine to make a perfect chant: the tune, the content and the support of the home team. "You'll hear chants sung about past players that weren't even that good, because it was a catchy chant that the fans loved at the time and still love singing to this day," he says. A chant will stick around "if it's doing a job, having a go at a player, getting the crowd going or is just plain funny." For example, Man United fans still sing this on occasion about former player Johnny O'Shea:When Johnny goes marching down the wing, O'Shea, O'Shea When Johnny goes marching down the wing, O'Shea, O'Shea When Johnny goes marching down the wing, The Stretford end will f***ing sing We all know that Johnny is gonna score.Plus chanting is the ultimate, and literal, crowd-sourced art form. "It's something decided at that moment on the terraces (the grandstands, in American terms) when somebody starts a chant," Barkwill says. "Either others join in and it has a chance to become a regular chant during the season, or it's consigned to the dustbin, never to be repeated again.""There's a community connection element, wanting to help your team and feel like you're playing a part in the spectacle, rather than just be a passive consumer of it," says Andrew Lawn, author of the 2020 book "We Lose Every Week: The History of Football Chanting." "You're actually involved in the game and you have some kind of agency over what happens on pitch."Lawn also adds a note familiar to American non-soccer fans: "Soccer as a game is not always 100% exciting. It's not just like constant action, action, action. There's an element of kind of entertaining yourself within the broader entertainment of the game."Play 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentFor clubs' supporters, chants are a form of self-expression and self-definition, allowing those in the stands to hold forth on their club, their opponent, their own lives, their communities, their eras, and more. The list of examples is as long as the list of clubs in the world; Barkwill cites a few of the notable examples: Supporters of St. Pauli of Germany, for instance, take pride in their poor working-class roots, proudly claiming to be "anti-social ticks" who "sleep under bridges." Fans of Brazil's Vasco de Gama chant about their legacy of standing up to racism. Others will air their grievances with the current political administration or club leadership in a method that's much catchier than a "Sell the team" banner tugged behind a plane. Grant Thomas/Yahoo SportsPlay 2026 Soccer Pick 'Em with FOX One and make your picks for the world's biggest soccer tournamentBut chants don't have to be quite so serious. Manchester City's former striker Mario Balotelli earned his own chant after a range of incidents that included an allergic reaction to grass and a fine for throwing darts at other players in the team facility. "You're not fit to referee" is the more melodic version of "Ref you suck!" And Grimsby fans, hailing from a town known for its fishing, simply clap and shout "Fish!"Chants were once the exclusive province of their own small stadiums and localities, but no longer. "Now you will have songs at English football grounds that have come from Argentina or Italy or Spain or anywhere else in the world, because a good chant is shared on the internet, and anyone anywhere can see it and then take it to their ground and sing it," Lawn says. "If it's really catchy and it's got a great tune and people enjoy singing it, then they can catch on anywhere in the world."Which raises an obvious question: Americans have all these same hopes, dreams, fears and beliefs about their home towns and their opponents. Americans have a world-shaping musical heritage, plenty of brilliant professional and amateur humorists, and access to YouTube. So why can't we seem to come up with these kinds of chants?American chants: A "Loser Mentality"?Sadly, the chant style of nimble, bold, on-the-fly creativity seems out of reach for most American audiences. One of the United States' current thought leaders, a gentleman by the name of Jason Kelce, dug in on the idea of America's woeful soccer chants last year:"I do remember distinctly thinking how much better, watching soccer, Brazilians were than Americans," Kelce said on his "New Heights" podcast. "You go to the World Cup as an American, and they're like, 'I believe that we can win. I believe that we can win.' … That is the most loser-mentality chant I have ever heard in my life." Kelce's suggestion for an alternative — "I believe that we can f*** you up" — may or may not catch on, but at least it's got a bit more heft and attitude. So why can't the United States seem to do anything more sophisticated than belting out "U-S-A"? Pick a reason, and you're probably on target. To start, games in the NFL are closer to Marvel movies, bombarding fans with spectacle and pre-recorded music. Yes, we can manage to sing the "Da-da-daaah" refrain of "Sweet Caroline" roughly on the beat, and a few fanbases can nail most of the first lines of "Mr. Brightside," ("Comin' out of my cage and I'll be doing just fine … ") but those aren't really our songs, now are they? "There's a massive difference between going to a soccer match as a consumer and kind of expecting to be entertained, and going to a soccer match as a fan, where you might be entertained, you might not," Lawn says. "But that isn't the point. The point is not the product. The point is the communion and the community."Plus, there's an element of insecurity in our national character that doesn't lend itself to chanting. Americans in this era tend to be thin-skinned, happy to mock opponents but all sensitive and up in our feelings when we get mocked ourselves. (You'll never hear a "We lose every week"-style declaration from an American fanbase.) Until we can see the humor in getting our butts kicked, we'll never be able to match the carefree joy of European supporter chants. "I think it comes down to heritage more than anything," Barkwill says. "As Europeans we're brought up on the terraces — you grow up listening to these songs, and they've been filtered over decades, some over a hundred years: That one's good, that one's not, let's keep that one. The same tunes get used over and over. America just hasn't had that long process yet.""The U.S. has had a serious top-flight (soccer) league for maybe 30 years. That's just not long enough yet," says Michael Dennis, FanChants CEO. "And here's the odd bit: this is a country that's given the world some of its greatest music. The raw material is all there. It's the football tradition underneath it that's young."The closest American analogue to international soccer — at least for now — is college football, where generational tribalism reigns. College football has the same hyper-local deep-rooted character as, say, English soccer; students today with deep family ties to a university are almost certainly walking the same campus, going to the same stadium, and hearing the same anthems as their grandparents and great-grandparents did. As a result, the college football chants persist through the generations, too. Think, say, Ole Miss's "Hotty Toddy," call-and-responses like "We Are Penn State," "Boomer Sooner," and "Rock Chalk Jayhawk," or Florida State's Seminole wordless-but-still-powerful war chant. "I believe that we will win," the Kelce-hated USMNT anthem dating back to 2014, actually began life as a college football chant — at Navy, of all places, back in 1999. There's a growing, vocal contingent of American soccer fans looking to bring the chant vibe to our shores. The American Outlaws, the USMNT's most active supporter network, runs an entire chant-based operation throughout every United States match. And several MLS teams helpfully post the lyrics and proper in-game moments for their chants. It's a noble effort, and one that pays off if enough supporters are into it, even if there's something a little odd about pledging your life to a club that began in, oh, 2017. In the end, though, chants are about authenticity, and you can't buy or speed-run authenticity. There's something charmingly authentic about singing in a century-old stadium with overcrowded concourses, too-small seats and nasty restrooms that just doesn't translate to America's sleek, multibillion-dollar football palaces. Chants are best done over pints, not in luxury suites. So this year during the World Cup, give a listen to the other nations' chants, and see if you can find a tune you like. Sit on it until the fall, then whip up a few new lines about the opposing team's struggling quarterback or diva wide receiver. Get a few of your crew to sing along, preferably after a couple beers. Sure, most of your section will look at you like you've lost your mind. But one or two might just start singing with you. And then one or two more. And before long, you've got yourself a new tradition. That's how it starts …

Hey, Knicks fans: Stop throwing stuff at Victor Wembanyama
Let me say this, from one New York Knicks fan to another, from one native New Yorker to another, from one human to another: There's no need to throw anything at Victor Wembanyama as he's walking into his hotel after the San Antonio Spurs blew a 29-point lead in Game 4 on Wednesday. Some people say he got "egged" -- that's eggs being thrown at you -- but whatever it is, there's no need for that behavior. Fans can boo, they can talk trash, but throwing stuff and being violent? There's no need for that. Plain and simple. We can be better, New Yorkers. We've seen brawling, violence against Spurs fans and now this. Enough. That's crossing a line. GOP gov posts picture of James Talarico as a woman while attacking his climate action bill
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) posted a picture of Democratic Senate candidate and state Rep. James Talarico as a woman in order to mock the Democrat for supporting action on climate change. “Jimmy Talarico authored the Texas Climate Action Act – Texas’ Green New Deal,” Abbott wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “No matter what Talarico says on the campaign trail, the truth is his record is much more aligned with AOC than the ideals of Texans.” Related The attacks on James Talarico’s masculinity hurt everyone, including the people who lob them He posted a screenshot of the bill but didn’t describe what it would have done. His screenshot just highlighted the name of the bill. Abbott also included a doctored image that appears to be Talarico’s face superimposed on Rep. Earlier this week, a Paxton-aligned PAC spent millions to air an AI-generated video of Talarico in a dress singing about children transitioning. After Talarico won the Democratic primary in May, White House advisor Stephen Miller labeled Talarico Texas’s “first transgender senate candidate,” citing no evidence. In a speech following his own primary victory, Paxton claimed that his opponent believes “there’s actually six biological sexes.” RNC Chair Joe Gruters claimed that “Tala-freako…wants to mutilate children” and “put boys in girls’ locker rooms.” MAGA loyalists like Fox News’ Jesse Watters, podcaster Benny Johnson, and even the president himself have attacked Talarico’s masculinity, describing him as “Low T” and suggesting that he is secretly gay. Abbott’s Facebook post referred to a bill that Talarico introduced in 2021 to address power shortages in the state, a major issue that year. The bill sought to reduce the state’s reliance on fossil fuels, establish greenhouse gas emissions targets, and increase energy efficiency standards. The bill did not pass. Bernardo Silva a priority for Mourinho and Real Madrid -report
Free agent Bernardo Silva is a top priority for José Mourinho and is close to signing a contract with Real Madrid, according to a report published on AS. His leadership and his ability to control and dictate the tempo of the game through the midfield are the main reasons why Los Blancos have ultimately decided to listen to Mourinho and negotiate a deal with Silva and his agent Jorge Mendes, per that same report.Bernardo Silva will turn 32 years old and it’s clear that he’s no longer the player he was years ago. However, he can still be a very valuable asset for Real Madrid and his signing would make sense if Los Blancos can somehow sign him to a short and somewhat affordable deal. As things stand right now, it looks like a two-year deal could be a good compromise for both the player and the club, sources told Managing Madrid. Both parts will wait until the end of the FIFA World Cup to complete this move, but it looks like Bernardo Silva could play for Real Madrid next season.

Somali referee who was refused entry into US for World Cup picked to officiate Uefa Super Cup
Omar Abdulkadir Artan, the Somali referee who was barred from entering the United States for the World Cup, has been chosen to officiate the Super Cup by Uefa.Artan was denied entry into the US due to alleged links to “suspected members of terror organisations”, which made him a “national security threat”.A highly-regarded official who was named Africa’s referee of the year in 2025, Artan had “the biggest dream of my life” destroyed at US border control despite him insisting he had “the correct visa”.The decision to turn him away has led to heightened criticism towards the Trump administration and Fifa for failing to deliver on promises of inclusivity for this World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday evening in Mexico City.Artan has since received a hero’s welcome after returning to his homeland of Somalia and has now been awarded a showpiece European clash, refereeing the Super Cup match between Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Europa League holders Aston Villa on 12 August.A Uefa statement read: “Despite his young age, Artan has established himself as one of the world’s top referees and has been on the Fifa international list since 2018. “Among the most notable matches he has officiated is the second leg of the 2025/26 Caf Champions League final. In recognition of his performances, he received the Caf Men’s Referee of the Year Award 2025.“Artan had been included by Fifa in the match officials’ list for the Fifa World Cup 2026 but could not participate as he was not allowed to enter the United States.”Uefa also cites the promotion of its “core values of unity, equality and non-discrimination” in appointing Artan as the match official.Artan is far from the only footballing figure to have experienced visa troubles ahead of this summer’s finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Iran seeing a number of “integral” members of team staff refused entry with the rest of the squad.Fifa president Gianni Infantino responded to critics by telling everyone to “chill, relax” in another pre-World Cup press conference that would go down in infamy, four years on from declaring ahead of the Qatar World Cup: “Today, I feel gay. Today, I feel disabled.”Infantino and Uefa president Aleksandr Ceferin have often found themselves butting heads over football issues and by appointing Artan, he has opened his Fifa counterpart to even more criticism.Ceferin added: “Omar Artan is an excellent young but already experienced referee, who has proven himself at the highest competition level of the Confederation of African Football. “Football is made to connect people, and Uefa wants to show its respect to Omar and his outstanding officiating skills, which had earned him such a prestigious nomination. I am grateful to my friend Caf President Patrice Motsepe for supporting enthusiastically our initiative.”

The Finals are about moments, and in Game 4 the Knicks had one that'll last forever
The NBA Finals are about moments. And moments, by definition, are tiny slivers in time. A couple of seconds, maybe. An instant. Michael Jordan's shrug. Michael Jordan's pose. LeBron James' chasedown block. Jerry West's 60-footer to force overtime. Ray Allen's 3-pointer to save Miami in 2013. Magic Johnson's sky hook. Kobe Bryant jumping on a table, five fingers in the air to celebrate his fifth title. Willis Reed limping to the court for a Game 7.Those are the sort of ones that live forever, a singular event or sequence. The New York Knicks might have changed all that. They won Game 4 of the NBA Finals thanks to one of those moments — OG Anunoby's tip-in that capped the Knicks' rally from 29 points down surely earned him a lifetime membership into Club Iconic. But really, the whole comeback was a moment. Dozens and dozens of plays at Madison Square Garden, all weaved together to become a tale worthy enough for the stages of nearby Broadway and Radio City Music Hall.It was 21 1/2 minutes of basketball, something that lasted well over an hour in real time. Anunoby had the exclamation point, but it's a reasonable to say that the movie or whatever project that actor, director and diehard Knicks fan Ben Stiller is shooting from courtside with his cell phone during this series is going to feature a whole lot of those 21 1/2 minutes pretty prominently.“You have to have a little luck in life. You’ve got to have a little luck in sports,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said. “But you can also make your luck, too.”It's not fair to say the Knicks are lucky to have a 3-1 lead in these NBA Finals, because that would suggest that they aren't worthy of being in this spot. They are worthy. More than worthy. They won two games in San Antonio to begin the series, rallying from double-digit deficits in both, then dropped Game 3 at home and got themselves into a 29-point hole in Game 4.The Spurs couldn't miss anything in the first half. The Spurs couldn't make anything in the second half. That was good luck for the Knicks, bad luck for the Spurs, and both sides were more than a little responsible for that. It was 81-52 San Antonio with 21 1/2 minutes left in the game. History said winning was inevitable.Oops.“It’s a pretty clear picture if you watch the game in terms of what we did in the first half and why we scored so many points. It was pace, finding the paint, passing the ball to your teammate, taking good shots,” Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. “The second half was opposite of that.”Over those last 21 1/2 minutes:— The Knicks outscored the Spurs 55-25.— The Spurs missed 29 of their 35 shots.— Anunoby and Jalen Brunson combined to score 33 points by themselves for New York.— Victor Wembanyama had a stretch where he missed 10 of 11 shots.“I can’t really explain it right now,” Wembanyama said afterward when trying to make sense of everything that had just happened. “I don’t know. I think it’s just execution, greediness of some sort. We clearly weren’t the most hungry in the second half.”Midway through the third quarter, Anunoby made a 3-pointer to get the Knicks within 19. Doesn't look like much, but it was their first time getting the Spurs' lead under 20 since two minutes into the second quarter. The comeback — the moment — was just getting started. The lead was down to 15 going into the fourth quarter. Down to 12 after a 3-pointer by Karl-Anthony Towns with 7:28 left, then within single digits when Towns scored again a minute later. The Garden was rocking. Taylor Swift, sitting courtside, was jumping up and down the way millions of people have at her shows. Spike Lee, also courtside, was waving his arms wildly as if he was the director of this show, even though it had no script. The lead got down to seven. Then four. Then one. New York took the lead, then lost it briefly. And then Anunoby happened. The moment was complete.“We believe in each other,” Knicks guard Jose Alvarado said. “That’s the main thing.”It'll take one more win for the story to truly be finished. That will be the ultimate moment, if it happens. Knicks fans have waited 53 years for that celebration; there's been no NBA title for the franchise since 1973, and back then the Larry O'Brien Trophy wasn't even called the Larry O'Brien Trophy yet.But if that moment comes, then it'll be Wednesday's moment — those 21 1/2 improbable minutes rolled into one moment — that will have made that one possible.“We focus on the things we need to get better every single day and not being satisfied with the things that we’ve done so far,” Brunson said. “Very proud of my teammates, day-in and day-out. But (there's) a lot — a lot — that we have to learn ... to honestly be better and be where we want to be.”___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

Will Brendan Sorsby regret lawsuit? Consequences of Texas Tech QB playing in 2026
Will Brendan Sorsby regret lawsuit? Consequences of Texas Tech QB playing in 2026 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire spoke to fans and boosters at the Houston Touchdown Club on Wednesday – and he was asked whether anything would prevent quarterback Brendan Sorsby from playing at this point in time. "I'm glad you asked that question," McGuire responded before the room burst into laughter. Then, McGuire launched into an answer that started with the backup quarterback. "Will Hammond is coming back from an ACL," McGuire said. "He is recovering from an injury. Brendan Sorsby is recovering from an addiction. … I've sat down with this young man multiple times and the things he is going through and what he's been through is serious." Conflation inflation is high at Texas Tech, as if an ACL and a gambling addiction require the same type of recovery process. Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt and booster Cody Campbell were part of that offensive yesterday. You can't tell the difference between the booster club and the courtroom since a district court in Lubbock County, Texas, granted Sorsby an injunction against the NCAA on Monday. Sorsby is dealing with a gambling addiction. Is playing college football in 2026 the right treatment? Think about the potential consequences for Sorsby if he takes the first snap in that matchup on Friday, Sept. 18 in Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.DECOURCY: Texas Tech is about one thing – winningIs Brendan Sorsby's injunction justifiable? Outside of the stadium, Sorsby will not be seen as "sticking it to the NCAA." Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss or Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia were granted injunctions against the NCAA the last two years in order to gain an extra year of eligibility. Those quarterbacks did not break any rules, however. Any other examples? Cam Newton was briefly suspended at Auburn in 2010 after allegations his father Cecil solicited a six-figure dollar amount from Mississippi State. Johnny Manziel served a suspension in 2013 at Texas A&M after accepting money for autographs. That's all part of the game now with NIL. You cannot conflate any of that with Sorsby - even if Texas Tech is making its best effort. "The integrity of the sport matters," Hocutt said in a statement. "So does the integrity of how we treat a 22-year-old who sought help, entered residential treatment, and is working every day toward recovery," pic.twitter.com/4jIhbJYq2C— Kirby Hocutt (@kirbyhocutt) June 10, 2026That is fair, but it's also reasonable that recovery will take more than 35 days. Calvin Ridley was suspended for the 2022 NFL season after the receiver bet on games during the 2021 season. There was not an uproar at the time to let Ridley – who returned in 2023 – to have a shorter suspension. A year was a reasonable punishment. Ridley enjoyed a pair of 1,000-yard seasons after his return. Campbell called out Georgia for the number of player arrests under Kirby Smart on social media, then McGuire took conflation inflation to an all-time high."For some reason, as a society, we've been OK with other things that happen and allowing players to play, and this has been the one thing that has united people, that they were against," McGuire said at the Houston Touchdown Club. "It's crazy because it's not murder, it's not beating somebody, so there's a lot of things that we're working through. None of this is OK."We're all smart enough to know the Sorsby case is neither a capital offense or a traffic misdemeanor. Yet, like it or not, gambling is the cardinal sin for most college football sports' fans. Maybe that changes in another generation – the one flooded with betting apps on their phones – but the common-sense college football fans should not budge here. Players can't bet on the games. That's the rule, and there is no wiggle room. Texas Tech has already miscalculated the outrage to this shocking injunction, too. How much do you think it amps up if Sorsby takes a snap this season?BENDER: Judge leaves college football with no defense against gamblingBrendan Sorsby will be college football's No. 1 villain ESPN.com reported Sorsby was diagnosed with gambling and anxiety disorders during a 35-day impatient stay at a rehabilitation facility. We're not questioning the sincerity of Sorsby's rehab program, and we get the notion that playing with his teammates and preparing for a football season could be the right form of support. Just don't count on that support at Colorado on Oct. 3. Or in the return to Cincinnati on Oct. 24. Sorsby has a NIL contract with Texas Tech and is being sued by Cincinnati – where he played last season – over a $1 million exit he refused to pay after transferring from the Bearcats to the Red Raiders. So, that's where the cynicism starts to kick in. November trips to Oklahoma State and Baylor aren't going to be friendly either. Newton, Manziel and Pavia had huge followings. Most college football fans will root for Chambliss to beat LSU and Lane Kiffin on Sept. 19 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Who is rooting for Sorsby on the field against Houston the night before that? Plus, here is something to consider. Sorsby had a good season with Cincinnati, but does anybody think he is on the level of those other quarterbacks? Newton and Manziel won the Heisman Trophy, and Chambliss is among the front-runners this season. Pavia finished second, and we saw the fallout to his NSFW reaction after the ceremony. It followed him to the NFL Draft.Which is exactly how this is going to follow Sorsby. As of now, Sorsby will be the guy "who gambled and won," only that won't be perceived to be a good thing when it comes to the battle with the NCAA. That is a tremendous amount of pressure for a college athlete, especially one with an anxiety disorder.Maurice Clarett – who led Ohio State to a national championship in 2002 – was ruled ineligible as a sophomore and tried to challenge the NFL's anti-trust law with USC receiver Mike Williams. They lost. Neither player played in 2004. Williams played six seasons in the NFL. Clarett never played in a regular-season game. The gambling won't be a scarlet letter, but it will be the tag that follows Sorsby if he fails. To be clear, we're not rooting for Sorsby to fail. He should have a chance to play in the NFL – but the NFL Supplemental Draft or free agency next season would have been a more-palatable setting for a comeback story. Two games is simply not enough, and everybody knows it.Now, we're going to get a stand-off with the Big 12, whose entire enterprise is on the line heading into the regular season. Will Brendan Sorsby play in 2026? From a strictly legal perspective, it looks like he's going to play. Texas Tech could take the high road and rule Sorsby ineligible for the season while receiving treatment, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking that will happen. Eventually, Big 12 schools will squash their protests. That Big 12 matchup between Houston and Texas Tech – two conference favorites – is going to draw big television revenue – and that's what the game is all about now. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark knows that, and that money is often the arbiter these days. But at what cost? If Sorsby can gamble on his team and not receive more than a two-game punishment, then what's stopping FBS players all over the country from taking the under, the over or the prop bet on themselves? This is the definition of the consequence-free environment – the "Wild, Wild West" moniker – that is going to spawn conspiracy theories about every game. Why did Sorsby throw that pass? Did he miss that read on third-and-2 on purpose? Did he slide to avoid the under on rushing yards because of a bet? All of that is fair game – and Sorsby better be ready to handle those questions, too. If he plays, there is no quarterback that will ever be under more scrutiny in a single FBS season. And there is nothing that is going to prevent that, either.

Josh Berry's NASCAR Story Was Never Supposed To Be Easy
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - JANUARY 22: Josh Berry poses for a photo during NASCAR Production Days at Charlotte Convention Center on January 22, 2025 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)Getty ImagesIn addition to the pressure that comes with racing in NASCAR’s premier Cup Series, Josh Berry now faces another challenge: the added pressure of looking for pastures that he hopes are a bit greener next season. That’s because Wood Brothers Racing said Wednesday that they have decided not to keep Berry around after the season ends. Berry Breaks His Own NewsThe stunning news comes days before Berry is set to make his 100th start in the NASCAR Cup series in the Wood Brothers famous No. 21 Ford. It was also news that came as a shock to the media as well. That’s because it was Berry himself who revealed his departure during what is normally a weekly, routine, Ford media session. When asked to reflect on his career at the 100th start milestone, Berry said it’s been an amazing ride full of ups and downs. Sadly, his future now appears to be one of those downs. “I’ll just go ahead and put it out there that I will not be back in the 21 car next year,” he said in an almost offhanded tone. “I’m obviously disappointed about that. They’ve been amazing to work with. They’re amazing people and it’s been such a great opportunity.”That pronouncement set off a flurry of activity that saw reporters scrambling to post to social media channels, while still trying to listen to what Berry had to say. Moments later the team posted a statement to its own social media channels:WINSTON SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA - FEBRUARY 04: Josh Berry, driver of the #21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford, looks on during practice for the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on February 04, 2026 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. (Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images)Getty Images“Wood Brothers Racing, the longest-running active team competing in NASCAR, confirmed today that it will not exercise its option with driver Josh Berry for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season. Currently in his second year with the team, Berry will continue to race the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse through the balance of the 2026 season. Wood Brothers Racing will announce the new driver of the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for the 2027 Cup Series season in the near future.“We thank Josh Berry for all he’s done for Wood Brothers Racing and our partners over the last two seasons. Josh has been a great teammate, and we look forward to a strong finish to this season. We wish Josh all the best moving forward. We will announce who will be driving the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse in 2027 soon and we are excited for what lies ahead for Wood Brothers Racing.”From Bank Teller To Cup Series DriverBerry’s path to the Cup Series was anything but conventional. The Tennessee native was racing Legends cars at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, attending community college, and working as a bank teller when he caught the attention of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2008. The two competed against each other in an online racing league, and Earnhardt liked what he saw.NEWTON, NC - AUGUST 04: Josh Berry (73) JR Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo does a victory lap with the checkered flag after winning the Throwback 276 - 138 lap CARS Response Energy Late Model Stock Tour doubleheader August 4, 2018, at Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, North Carolina. (Photography by David Allio/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesTwo years later, Earnhardt hired Berry to race Late Models for JR Motorsports. Over the next decade, Berry became the winningest driver in CARS Tour history while adding ARCA and NASCAR Truck Series starts to his résumé. He eventually moved into the NASCAR Xfinity (now O’Reilly Auto Parts) Series, first part-time and then full-time with JR Motorsports in 2022 and 2023, collecting five victories in just 97 starts.Along the way, Berry developed a reputation as one of stock car racing’s most dependable substitute drivers. His Cup Series debut came in 2021 when COVID sidelined Spire Motorsports driver Justin Haley. An even bigger opportunity arrived in 2023 when Chase Elliott suffered a broken leg in a snowboarding accident and Hendrick Motorsports needed a replacement. Through the relationship between Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports, Berry got the call.A Dream Opportunity, Then Another DetourThe news for Berry and his growing fanbase only got better that same year when he was announced as the replacement driver for Kevin Harvick, who was retiring at the end of 2023. And so, Berry began his first full Cup season with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024. Unfortunately, the timing could hardly have been worse.CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA - JUNE 21: (L-R) Chief competition officer Greg Zipadelli, co-owner Tony Stewart and driver Josh Berry answer questions during a press conference announcing Berry will drive the #4 Stewart-Hass Racing Ford Mustang in 2024 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on June 21, 2023 in Concord, North Carolina. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)Getty ImagesEarly in Berry’s rookie Cup season, Stewart-Haas Racing announced it would shut down at the end of 2024, forcing him back into the driver market almost as soon as he arrived. Thus began his tenure with NASCAR’s oldest active team. One that has fielded cars for legendary drivers such as Curtis Turner, Junior Johnson, Cale Yarborough and David Pearson. Early on the pairing seemed to be perfect. In just his third start for the team, Berry scored his first NASCAR Cup series win in March at Las Vegas. The win helped propel the team into the playoffs, although three DNFs ultimately ended their postseason run.Since then, it almost seems as though a dark cloud has been hovering over Berry and the Wood Brothers. In the first 15 races this season the No. 21 car has crashed out 4 times. And while Berry has scored 2 top 10 finishes, the honeymoon, it seems, is over, and Berry will need to find a new home next season. The Question Facing Josh BerryThe obvious question becomes who takes over one of NASCAR’s most recognizable rides.Nothing is certain at this point, but speculation seems to center on Jesse Love. Whether the 21-year-old, reigning O’Reilly Auto Parts champion will be the Chosen One, or who might be is far from certain. Finding a new driver for one of the most famous cars in the history of NASCAR, however, shouldn’t be an issue. That leaves the bigger question: what does the future in NASCAR hold for Josh Berry? He has a loyal fan base and has already demonstrated he can win at NASCAR’s highest level.LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MARCH 16: Josh Berry, driver of the #21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford, takes a selfie with team owner Eddie Wood in victory lane after winning the NASCAR Cup Series Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 16, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images)Getty ImagesBut there’s a problem, an elephant in the room sized one. Josh Berry will be 36 in October this year. In a sport where youth is often valued almost as highly as talent, and with relatively few Cup Series openings expected for 2027, Berry will join a long list of drivers searching for opportunities. Unlike many of the others in that line, however, he won't be able to sell teams on long-term potential. For now, Berry still has a season to run, races he could still win, and the hopeful optimism that can only come with age.“I still feel like I'm the same guy that won Las Vegas,” Berry said during that media session Wednesday. “I’m still the same guy that nearly won at New Hampshire in the playoffs.“The sun came up today regardless of how bad it might have felt yesterday. It might have felt like it might not, but the sun came up this morning and it’s a new day. You land on your feet and go to work and that’s all you can do.”This article was originally published on Forbes.com

Feyenoord in negotiations with OGC Nice for Belgian midfielder
Feyenoord in negotiations with OGC Nice for Belgian midfielderSacha Tavolieri has revealed that Feyenoord are in negotiations with OGC Nice for the transfer of Belgian midfielder Charles Vanhoutte. The former Union St Gilloise and Cercle Brugge midfielder is said to be open to a move to Feyenoord. Clearly Feyenoord’s new Sporting Director Devy Rigaux has already been incredible active, sacking Robin van Persie and now looking to make some early moves in the transfer market. Vanhoutte is undoubtedly a talented player, as shown during his time in the Belgian Pro League. Feyenoord finished second under van Persie but they were well off the pace and champions PSV in the Eredivisie. Rigaux left Club Brugge to take over at Feyenoord and has been tasked with building a side capable of challenging for the title next season. The 27-year-old Vanhoutte joined Nice last summer after making over 100 appearances for Union and helping them win the league title. He played 38 games for the side that struggled in Ligue 1, scoring once and providing three assists. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson

FSU's 2027 recruiting class ranking after Gregory Batson decomitted
The FSU Seminoles were enjoying a hot streak on the recruiting trail, but that has come to an end. Four-star linebacker Gregory Batson decommitted from Florida State on Wednesday. The Lessburg, Georgia native had been committed to FSU since November of 2025, but never shut his recruitment down. He was one of FSU's highest-ranked commits, and the Seminoles now have just four four-star commits in their 2027 recruiting class. His departure puts pressure on new linebackers coach Ernie Sims, who just flipped four-star prospect Jernard Albright from the South Carolina Gamecocks, but he is currently FSU's only commitment at linebacker. The Seminoles have plenty of time to add several players, and could even keep recruiting Batson. The Seminoles now have 9 total commitments after he decommitted, giving them the No. 52 recruiting class in the country according to the 247Sports team rankings. Fantasy Baseball: Is it skill or luck that's fueling these multi-category players so far?
The theme of this week’s article on hitter skills and luck factors is about players with exciting tools for fantasy baseball. Typically, when we’re thinking of toolsy players, we’re talking about power and speed. Some of these hitters have been making adjustments to their profiles or earning more playing time. Meanwhile, other hitters have been showing similar skills.Do the skills support the outcomes, or have they been fortunate? Should we buy, sell or hold these hitters for the rest of the season?Jackson Chourio, Brewers (99% Rostered)Jackson Chourio has been steadily providing 20+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases in his first two seasons. He is on pace for another 20/20 year this season. That said, Chourio’s .383 BABIP is inflating his batting average (.304). For context, Chourio’s BABIP is over 60 points above his career norm. Chourio’s 77.3% contact rate is consistent with his career averages. However, his swing rate is down by four points (45.7%) with a 10.4% swinging-strike rate that’s within 1-2 percentage points below his career average. That makes Chourio a better option in leagues with batting average, though he is solid in OBP or points leagues. Chourio tends to use an all-fields approach, which impacts his home run production. His 29% pull rate is down by six points, with an uptick in batted balls toward the center and opposite fields. However, Chourio is hitting more flyballs (41%) than his career average (36.2%), though it’s similar to 2025 (39.4%). A better and more consistent launch angle should help Chourio to barrel the ball more often, which is evident in his career-best 9.9% barrel rate per plate appearance. There could be more home runs coming from Chourio, which might present a buying opportunity to be a step ahead of the projections.Chourio hasn’t been caught stealing in five attempts, with a 13% stolen-base rate. He uses his near-elite Sprint Speed (89th percentile) to convert a high percentage of his steals while running often. If Chourio’s barrel rate helps the home runs go above the previous norms and he converts nearly all his stolen base opportunities, there is an upside scenario for him going 30/30 this year. Don’t sell high based on the BABIP, because tools exist for more upside. Pete Crow-Armstrong, Cubs (98% Rostered)Through April, Pete Crow-Armstrong hit three home runs, stole six bases and posted a .241 batting average. Since May 1, Crow-Armstrong has been heating up, with eight home runs, eight steals and a .265 batting average. From the beginning of April through May 22, the Cubs moved Armstrong toward the bottom third of the lineup. Since May 23, Crow-Armstrong has been back in the leadoff or second spot in the lineup. Through April 2026:72.3% contact rate15.5% swinging-strike rate44.6% chase rate71.4% zone swing rate7.6% barrel rateSince May 1 (2026):76% contact rate11.6% swinging-strike rate32.6% chase rate66.4% zone swing rate14.7% barrel rateCrow-Armstrong has been making more contact by chasing and whiffing less often since May 1. Though it’s only a one-month sample, Crow-Armstrong is making significant swing decision changes that should help his floor and consistency as a hitter. It has been reflected in Crow-Armstrong’s season-long 37.9% chase rate being 2-3 points below the career norm and his 68.6% zone swing rate dipping by over eight percentage points. The rolling averages below show a visual of those recent swing decision changes.Pete Crow-Armstrong 15-game chase, zone swing and contact rate rolling average. (Photo by Corbin Young/FanGraphs)From a power standpoint, Crow-Armstrong is swinging the bat harder (74.7 mph), up two mph from 2025. Furthermore, Crow-Armstrong’s 7.3% barrel rate per plate appearance aligns with his career norm. If he continues to make more contact and barrel up the ball, he can go on a home run binge.Crow-Armstrong boasts a high 28% stolen base opportunity rate, which is 10 points below his career average. He typically converted 81% of his stolen base chances throughout his career, but it’s at 73% this season. I would expect his stolen base conversion rate to shift toward the career average. There was skepticism about Crow-Armstrong’s fantasy outlook because of the plate discipline concerns. We’re seeing proof that Crow-Armstrong can make improvements in his swing decisions, but the question is whether he can sustain it. I’m leaning more on the optimistic side of things. Crow-Armstrong might not have a 30/35 season this year, but 25/30 is a likely outcome. I would rather be early and buy into his swing-decision improvements, so he would be a target of mine if my team needed upside in the power and speed department, specifically in leagues with batting average.Jarren Duran, Red Sox (96% Rostered)Jarren Duran was sitting against some left-handed starting pitchers earlier in the season. Since May 1, Duran has been starting against all left-handed starting pitchers out of the leadoff spot. He has been unlucky with a .263 BABIP, which impacts his low .210 batting average. That’s a 50-70 gap between Duran’s career BABIP (.332) and batting average (.260). Besides Duran’s BABIP, he has been struggling to make contact.Jarren Duran's rolling BABIP, contact rate and o-contact percentage 15-game average. (Photo by Corbin Young/FanGraphs)That’s been evident by Duran’s 66.5% contact rate and 15.8% swinging-strike rate. Both Duran’s contact and swinging-strike rate would be the worst since his rookie season. However, it’s worth noting that Duran’s 82.2% zone contact rate is over four points below his career norms. That said, Duran’s overall contact could regress back toward the career averages, especially since he has a career-low 41.1% O-Contact%, meaning he isn’t making as much contact outside the zone this season.Jarren Duran's rolling 15-game pull rates. (Photo by Corbin Young/FanGraphs)Duran has been pulling the ball significantly more this season. His 44.1% pull rate is over eight percentage points above his career norm (35.5%). That coincides with Duran’s career-best pulled air rate (15.9%) after a 15.2% pulled air rate in 2025. All but two of Duran’s home runs have been toward his pull side with a 101.8 mph average exit velocity on pulled flyballs. That’s a helpful approach to pull the ball more, adding to his power ceiling with a career-best 7% barrel rate per plate appearance.Duran runs often, with a 22% stolen base opportunity rate. He has been known for his speed (93rd percentile Sprint Speed) and athleticism, helping maintain a high stolen base conversion rate at 85% in his career. Duran’s speed and high conversion rate should help him reach 25+ stolen bases. Assuming Duran’s BABIP regresses favorably and his plate discipline shifts back to the career norm, Duran should see his batting average be more toward .250 to .260. The most optimistic parts of Duran’s profile involve him pulling the ball more and hitting the ball harder. The likely scenario is 20/25, but there’s a ceiling for 25/30, as seen in 2024. Bryce Eldridge, Giants (17% Rostered)In Bryce Eldridge’s first two weeks (14 games), the Giants faced 13 right-handed starting pitchers. Eldridge started in eight of those 13 games, making us wonder about why the Giants called him up if they were going to limit his playing time as a strong-side platoon option. Since Eldridge’s first two weeks, he has been playing more regularly, including in five of six games against a left-handed starter. More playing time helps us have confidence in Eldridge’s tools, helping to produce fantasy value.Eldridge has a high-end 79.8% contact rate and a 9.5% swinging-strike rate. He has an above-average bat speed (73.5 mph) and a 6.4% barrel rate per plate appearance throughout his MLB career. Eldridge is pulling the ball (42.3%), especially in the air, leading to an above-average 21.1% pulled-air rate. That’s optimal to hit more home runs, though Eldridge plays in the worst home park in Statcast Park Factors for home runs for left-handed hitters. Eldridge had 70- to 80-grade power as a prospect, which has been showing up in his early MLB sample. There’s the potential for 25-30 home runs in Eldridge’s bat, though the home park will limit him. He has been fortunate, with a .358 BABIP boosting his .298 batting average. Most projections expect his BABIP and batting average to fall. However, Eldridge makes plenty of contact while hitting the ball hard, supported by his .299 xBA. He has power, and thankfully, he has been playing more often, which means he should be a priority pickup in deeper formats. If fantasy managers stashed Eldridge, it’s positive to see him earning regular playing time. Willy Adames, Giants (85% Rostered)Willy Adames has been picking it up over the past month. Through April, Adames hit three home runs, zero steals and a .197 batting average. Since May 1, Adames has hit eight home runs, one steal and a .265 batting average. Adames has been striking out less, from 31% through April to 25.8% since May 1. Most of the underlying metrics were similar through April and since May 1, but it finally turned into production, hinting Adames was unlucky earlier in the year. Adames’s plate discipline has been similar to the career averages, besides his zone swing rate dipping to a career low (65.2%). That coincides with Adames’ chase rate increasing to 32.4%. Both were 3-4 percentage points within his career averages. With Adames chasing more than recent years, it’s impacting his walk rate to a career low at 5.9% after a double-digit walk rate in three straight seasons (10-11%). Maybe Adames was pressing earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Adames’ batted ball profile looks nearly identical to the recent seasons, with his high pulled air rate (26.5%). He continues to hit the ball hard and boasts an above-average barrel rate per plate appearance (6.3%). After scaring fantasy managers earlier in the season, Adames has been turning it around to put him on pace for 25-30 home runs and 7-10 stolen bases. This is a case where we want to trust his extensive track record, especially if they have a stretch of being unproductive.
