Brazil to be without star forward for World Cup opener vs Morocco
Brazil to be without star forward for World Cup opener vs Morocco originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.On Saturday afternoon, Brazil is slated to begin the Carlo Ancelotti era of the national team’s history as they take on African powerhouse Morocco for the first game of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.A Seleção is set to go into the tournament with a world-class forward department, with their offensive battery including the likes of Vinicius Jr, Raphinia, Endrick, and Gabriel Martinelli, amongst others. This has made them one of the more formidable front lines in the tournament, but it appears they’re set to be missing a big piece when they take on The Atlas Lions on Saturday evening.Neymar is still on the path to full fitness🚨🇧🇷 BREAKING: Neymar Jr to miss Brazil vs Morocco opening game but back next week.“Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible. The expectation is that he will recover and rejoin the group next week”. pic.twitter.com/8aFLuHyo11— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 12, 2026As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Brazil will be without Neymar for their World Cup opener, but he will be on the cards for a return in the subsequent matches. The 34-year-old is currently recovering from a Grade 2 calf strain, which he suffered from in mid-May during a match for Santos in the Brazilian top flight. This injury was one of the reasons that Neymar’s inclusion in A Seleção’s camp for the upcoming tournament was so controversial, given that it wasn’t a guarantee for him to return at all during the global spectacle.Another reason that his selection was questioned by some was his mixed performances for Santos this season, recording six goal involvements across eight appearances for the Peixe, with the 34-year-old’s availability being limited due to various injuries sustained over the course of the season. If Romano’s claim is to be true, it would mean that Neymar will return to the squad for Brazil’s match against Haiti on June 19, which will be their penultimate match of the tournament. However, for the rest of the Brazilian squad, they will start their World Cup campaign off on Saturday evening, with kick-off against Morocco slated for 6:00 p.m. EST.MORE TRANSFER NEWSAston Villa among six Premier League teams eyeing Barcelona wingerManchester United star striker completes move to NapoliChelsea linked to Juventus defender amid potential Cucurella exitLiverpool, Manchester United tied to relegated West Ham starChelsea reveal hefty price tag for defender amid La Liga interestManchester United, Inter Milan being linked to ex-Aston Villa starLiverpool, Bayern Munich lose race to sign German wonderkid

Port Vale sign ex-Burton defender Moon
Jasper Moon has spent the majority of his career at Championship or League One level [Getty Images]Port Vale defender Jasper Moon says he is targeting promotion after joining the League Two club on a free transfer.Former Barnsley and Leicester City academy graduate Moon, 25, was released by Burton Albion last month after three seasons with the Brewers, scoring his first goal for his former side in a draw with Exeter City to ensure they stayed in League One."I know the stature of the club," Moon told Vale's website, adding that his experiences with assistant coach Gary Mills at Burton and head of physical performance James Walsh at Barnsley had influenced his decision."As soon as I heard they were interested, I was buzzing to get it done. Promotion is what we want to look for - I know that's what the manager is looking for."Robbie Williams named Port Vale shirt sponsor11 EFL players to look out for at the World CupVale boss Jon Brady said Moon's arrival reflected his ambition to create a "competitive" squad following a third-bottom finish in League One last season."He's a strong defender, an excellent professional and, just as importantly, a character who will help drive standards on and off the pitch," added Brady."We want people who are committed, ambitious and prepared to challenge themselves and those around them every day, and Jasper fits that profile perfectly."Listen to Port Vale content on BBC Sounds

Football Extra newsletter: Dispatches from inside the Tartan Army
The party started long ago for the Scottish fans lucky to be in Boston for their World Cup opener against Haiti [Getty Images]This is my full column from this week's BBC Football Extra newsletter. Throughout the World Cup we'll be sending editions daily, landing in your inbox ahead of the day's play to help guide you through the biggest and busiest tournament ever.If you're outside the UK and would like to sign up, head this way.Just travelling to a World Cup is its own special adventure. Before I got out of Glasgow Airport en route to Dublin and then on to Boston, the fun had well and truly started. At check in there were flights going to Reykjavik, London, Dublin, Lisbon and many more widespread cities. Each flight had a snaking line full of kilted Scots. It looked like a tartan clad exodus had begun or a friendly invasion organised, with everyone delighted to be going along. Before even dropping my suitcase, two men were being interviewed beside the airport entrance doors. Their less-travelled but still impressive route was to be Glasgow to Lisbon, on to the Azores, then I think Cancun in Mexico before flying up to Boston. All very impressive except they had slept in and missed the first of those flights. I don't even want to think of the thousands lost for the sake of a 'wee' lie in!The best was yet to come, when I made it through passport control, I was sipping a coffee when a very serious sounding lady made an urgent announcement over the intercom: "Would anyone who has lost a kilt, please come to the lost property immediately".I then witnessed something very rare, an entire airport laughing together. He might not have noticed he'd lost his kilt, but if he was a true Scotsman (wearing no underwear underneath) then I bet everyone else had!'It's all they're talking about': Scotland gripped by World Cup feverGo big against Haiti – or face going homeThere is nervousness buried beneath the Scottish smiles of my fellow travellers from the Tartan Army though.Scotland have a problem: our most important game of the World Cup will almost certainly be the first one against Haiti. Win that and they can go through – anything else and it is a long shot even Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't fancy trying. The same scenario is the case for the Haitians as well because wins against the mighty Brazilians or the ultra-talented Moroccans seem distant, though not impossible, hopes.Four years work – or 28 if you consider how long the Scots have waited to make a World Cup finals – could disappear in less time than in takes to watch a movie. The entire nation seemed to go into some sort of mini nervous breakdown when it emerged Scott McTominay had missed a training session with a sore tummy. This is not a natural reaction but it underlines what everyone already knows; if Scotland do not win against Haiti then it might be an idea to start packing the bags before they are fully unpacked. You are Steve Clarke – what do you do against Haiti?Teenager's pride as artwork chosen for Scotland World Cup team busWho will be the surprise package? The Scotland fans who have hopped over the pond, whichever route they chose, are going to have a great time and be very entertaining. They will be fun but also fearless which is what you need to qualify on the field. The top teams are fearless at the start. I don't think England are particularly worried about not getting out of their group. Croatia aren't quite the force they once were, Ghana are not the strongest team in Africa and if England can't beat Panama there will be questions in the Houses of Parliament. England have also got a rather helpful habit of keeping clean sheets – no goals shipped in qualification is a sobering challenge to others at this party.Whatever Thomas Tuchel says to relieve the pressure on the English, considering the depth of talent, they are most certainly amongst the favourites. I would also suggest that this is the most open World Cup I have ever been to.Since 1998 the winners have been from the powerhouse nations of Europe and South America, the usual suspects as it were, but maybe the outsiders have a chance because there is no outright clear and obvious favourite this time.Turkey and South Korea got into the last four in 2002, while Croatia and Morocco upset the odds in getting that far as well in the years since. Who is to say one of the others can't take that extra step this time?Who will win the World Cup? BBC pundits make their predictionsNo tea at this Boston partyThere was a party in Boston on Friday night. I must admit, going to it probably wasn't the best idea while still being a bit jet lagged from the flight over. Being a Tartan Army affair, it certainly couldn't have been described as a Boston Tea Party in any sense.I intend to give a full and frank account to everyone, as soon as the lawyers have checked it out and I can actually remember some of it. There were a bunch of songs by The Proclaimers, a rousing rendition of 'Flower of Scotland', then a few toasts and after that it got a bit messy…but as the hilarious broadcaster Kenny Everett used to pronounce, "it was all done in the best possible taste".I did however find myself sitting beside Hearts manager Derek McInnnes for the evening and decided not to push the journalistic parameters too far and ask about his immediate future. He wouldn't have told me anyway. With John Swinney, Scotland's first minister there alongside Hollywood actor Gerard Butler and a host of other celebrity figures, the vibe seemed to be "what happens in Boston, stays in Boston"...This is the joy of the World Cup, fun and camaraderie. Even though the prices are horrendously high for the travelling fan, every plane leaving Scotland and indeed Ireland was jam packed with the Tartan Army this week. I walked the length of our airbus and did not see a single American going home, or even a casual tourist among the football fans. These seats have been booked up for many months.Flights have doubtless been commandeered en masse around the world too, even if the Scots are particularly keen followers of their national side. The competition is a few days old, but just starting for some of us. With the real fans around you, if you concentrate, you can just about block out the gruesome monetising of this year's festival…for a little while anyway.

The United States and Mexico had a dream start to a World Cup on their home soil.Canada’s first game wasn’t too bad, either. The Americans put an exclamation point on Friday’s action with a 4-1 win over Paraguay in Inglewood, California, building a 3-0 lead by halftime and matching the biggest U.S. World Cup victory.Folarin Balogun scored two goals and Giovanni Reyna added another in the final minute as the American team broke its record for goals in a World Cup game. Caitlin Clark ties Tamika Catchings' Fever franchise mark in latest win
Caitlin Clark is no stranger to holding Indiana Fever team records. And now she's close to adding another impressive one to her resume.Clark always seems to play her best against the Chicago Sky, and that was certainly the case on Thursday. The former Iowa star posted 32 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in the Fever's 114-106 overtime win over the Sky. It was the third 30-point double-double of Clark's WNBA career, which ties her with a Fever franchise legend atop the record books.Tamika Catchings had three 30-point double-doubles in her career. Clark pulled even with the longtime member of the Fever with her third 30-point double-double.Caitlin Clark tied Tamika Catchings for the franchise record for most 30-point double-doubles tonight against Chicago 🤩32 PTS | 10 AST | 7 REBhttps://t.co/cHCEiomjvl 🗳️ pic.twitter.com/cW5YyoxzbC— Indiana Fever (@IndianaFever) June 12, 2026Catchings, the 2011 WNBA MVP, played her entire 15-year career in Indiana, appearing in 457 games. Clark has tied her franchise record in just 64 games, a testament to how quickly she's adjusted to the WNBA game. Outside of some injury problems last season, she's been exactly what Fever fans hoped she would be so far. At just 24-years-old, there's plenty of time for Clark to hold this record all for herself. Over the next decade, Clark will have a great chance to overtake a few more of Catchings' franchise marks. If she continues at her current career averages of 18.8 points and 8.5 assists per game, she'll pass Catchings for most points and assists in Fever franchise history.Clark will continue her climb in the record books on Saturday night, when the Fever take on the Connecticut Sun. Tipoff will be at 5 p.m. CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Network and stream on Peacock.Contact/Follow us @HawkeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Iowa news, notes and opinions. Real Madrid prodigy not engaged in any talks with Serie A champions regarding summer move – Romano
Real Madrid prodigy not engaged in any talks with Serie A champions regarding summer move – RomanoReal Madrid have no intention of parting ways with Endrick this summer despite reports linking the Brazilian forward with a move to Inter Milan.Earlier today, speculation gathered momentum when reports emerged suggesting Inter were exploring a deal for the 19-year-old, potentially involving a loan with an obligation to buy worth between €35 million and €40 million. However, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has now dismissed those reports, insisting there is no truth to the rumours and no ongoing discussions between the parties. No truth in Inter Milan linksThe story initially gained traction after reports claimed Inter Milan had identified Endrick as a priority target and were evaluating possible formulas to bring him to Serie A.Given the fierce competition for places in Real Madrid’s attack, the rumours inevitably sparked questions about the Brazilian’s future, but according to Romano, there is currently nothing to discuss.Endrick was linked to Inter Milan. (Photo by Wagner Meier/Getty Images)The Italian journalist has stated that there have been no contacts between Inter Milan and Endrick, effectively shutting down the speculation before it could gather further momentum.More importantly, Real Madrid recently held conversations with the player’s representatives and used those meetings to reaffirm their faith in the youngster while communicating that he will have a prominent role next season.Understandably, Endrick is considered a player for the future and someone Real Madrid fully expect to continue developing at the Santiago Bernabeu.Real Madrid have a plan in placeOne of the most significant details from Romano’s update concerns the direct communication between Real Madrid and Endrick’s camp.It is said that the club officials met with the player’s agents towards the end of May and reiterated that they continue to believe strongly in his potential.Endrick will not leave Real Madrid. (Photo by Ira L. Black/Getty Images)That conversation removed any uncertainty regarding his immediate future.Rather than discussing possible exits, Real Madrid used the opportunity to reassure the player’s entourage that he remains an important part of their plans moving forward.Furthermore, another important factor working in Endrick’s favour is the arrival of Jose Mourinho. As such, the young forward has already spoken with the new Real Madrid manager, which could prove decisive heading into the new season.Simply put, there seems to be no concrete basis for the Brazilian’s links with Serie A as Real Madrid will be counting on him for next season.

With storms forecasted, Dana White says UFC Freedom 250 taking place 'no matter what'
Sunday's UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn of The White House will be the second time the fight promotion has held an event outdoor. The first, UFC 112, was held in an open-air, outdoor temporary concert arena in the Middle East on Yas Island.UFC CEO Dana White has gone on record several times voicing his unwillingness to hold events outdoors citing weather as his main concern. As fate would have it, thunderstorms are forecasted for Sunday. But come hail or high water, the event will proceed. "Listen, the show goes on on Sunday. No matter what happens, we're going," White said during Thursday's UFC Freedom 250 Pre-Fight Press Conference . "I don't care if it rains, snows, whatever happens we have a fight on Sunday."I'm sick and tired of hearing about the weather now and all the other bullsh*t surrounding this event. We are fighting on Sunday night on The White House lawn no matter what."The event is headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between champion Ilia Topuria and interim titleholder Justin Gaethje. According to Accuweather.com, it's expected to be "hot and humid" in Washington D.C. on Sunday with the possibility of a "heavy thunderstorm late in the afternoon." The chance of rain is estimated at 55 percent.

Erling Haaland: The Story So Far
Erling Haaland: The Story So FarOn this day in 2022, it was officially announced that Erling Haaland was joining Manchester City.It was a huge coup for the Blues, with the deal becoming active on 1 July. One of the world’s best young strikers, it was a transfer that thrilled our supporters and sent a shiver down the spine of defenders up and down the land. And for the last six years, the talismanic Norwegian has been breaking records right, left and centre. Here’s a look at what Erling has achieved so far with City in all competitions.Games: 198Just two short of a double century of matches for the Blues, Haaland has been almost a permanent fixture in our starting XI since making his debut away to West Ham United in 2022.Of those games, 132 have come in the Premier League where he has so far scored 112 goals at an average of 98 minutes per goal.Goals: 162Haaland has already climbed to fourth in our top goal-scorers of all-time.He is just four goals from equalling Tommy Johnson in third and 15 behind Eric Brook in second – and you’d expect him to surpass both in this calendar year given his exploits in sky blue so far.But the Norway star has still got a way to go to catch Sergio Aguero’s total of 260.Trailing by 98, if he keeps his average of 40.5 goals per season, he would be closing in by the start of the 2028/29 campaign but could get there even sooner.Watch video for free with a Cityzens account Register Sign in Loading your videoThis may take a few seconds. Press play when it’s ready.Assists: 29An overlooked part of Haaland’s game is making goals for team-mates.His 29 to date mean that he averages just over seven assists per campaign – a more than decent return and evidence if needed of his mentality of being a team player, as well as am effective defender at set-pieces.Shots: 703Like any striker worth their salt, Erling isn’t shy at taking shots. His average over four seasons is 3.5 shots per game – and while they don’t all end up in the back of the net, plenty of them do!Minutes played: 16,053Erling averages 81.07 minutes per game for his 198 matches played. He has had only a couple of occasions when he was forced to miss more than a couple of games and has an excellent fitness record.Pep Guardiola preferred to rest our No.9 in some cup competitions to give him time to recover and stay sharp, though inevitably he would be called upon for semi-finals and finals.Trophies won: 9Erling came to City to win trophies – and he’s done just that in his first four seasons at the Etihad. To date, he has won nine trophies with the Blues, including one Champions League, two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Carabao Cip, one FA Community Shield, one FIFA Club World Cup and one UEFA Super Cup.Career games: 402Including Bryne FK, Molde, Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has already surpassed the 400 games threshold. It’s 11 seasons since he made his debut for Bryne FK as a 14-year-old and he has packed more into that time than most players manage in an entire career. And at just 25-years-old, our No.9 has plenty of gas left in the tank .Career goals: 317An incredible number of goals only elite strikers reach, Erling’s goal-scoring is already the stuff of legend. He averages 0.78 goals per game so far, which is a phenomenal return.NorwayGames played: 50 Goals: 55No wonder Erling Haaland is adored by Norwegians. His return of 55 goals in 50 games has helped Norway become one of the most improved European nations in the past couple of years and now he is set to shine at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.With three Premier League Golden Boots and a European Golden Shoe to his name, would anyone bet against Erling adding a FIFA World Cup Golden Shoe to his ever growing collection?

Lakers jersey history No. 52 — Jay Carty
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. In 1962, the St. Louis Hawks took Jay Carty, a 6-foot-8 forward, out of Oregon State University. He didn't make his NBA debut until the 1968-69 season as a member of the Lakers, and it would be his only season in the league. That year, he averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 6.9 minutes a game. He also appeared in three playoff games and totaled one point in 10 minutes as Los Angeles made it to Game 7 of the NBA Finals, only to lose there to the Boston Celtics. This article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: Lakers jersey history No. 52 — Jay Carty

Thoughts on a 10-1 Rangers loss
Jun 12, 2026; Boston, Massachusetts, USA; Boston Red Sox center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela (3) dives under Texas Rangers shortstop Ezequiel Duran (20) as he steals second base during the first inning at Fenway Park. Mandatory Credit: Eric Canha-Imagn Images | Eric Canha-Imagn Images Red Sox 10, Rangers 1That was a trash game.Just trash. As a Rangers fan, it felt good for a half inning, when the Rangers hit three singles in the first to score a run and give the team a 1-0 lead. After that, everything was ass. Those three first inning singles? Half of the Rangers’ hit total for the day.Jack Leiter wasn’t good, something that is recurring with an alarming frequency this year.A pair of runs allowed in the first, highlighted by a Willson Contreras homer. Then four more in the fifth — Leiter’s last inning — when the first four batters of the inning went double-double-double-sing.This is the second straight start where Leiter has allowed at least five runs, and the fourth time in his last five starts where he has allowed at least four runs. Leiter has allowed four runs or more in eight of the fourteen stars he has made this year. After a solid 2025 season, the expectation was that Leiter would take a step forward in 2026. Instead, he appears to have taken a step backwards.Leiter has now allowed 19 runs in 12.1 IP in the fifth inning of games this year. That seems less than ideal.Cal Quantrill and Luis Curvelo, apparently not wanting Leiter to feel bad, chipped in, with Quantrill allowing one run and Curvelo three. Luis Curvelo is now sporting a 7.56 ERA and 7.91 FIP on the season.Oh, and Evan Carter left the game with an oblique issue after making a diving catch.Trash game. Bleah.Jack Leiter hit 98.4 mph with his fastball, averaging 96.9 mph. Cal Quantrill hit 95.5 mph with his sinker. Luis Curvelo topped out at 97.0 mph with his fastball.Josh Jung had a 105.7 mph single. Wyatt Langford had a 101.7 mph fly out.We are moving on to the next game and forgetting this one happened.

Real Madrid to receive €15m as Newcastle United near winger deal
Real Madrid to receive €15m as Newcastle United near winger dealIt should be another summer where Real Madrid manage to rake in a significant amount of money in the transfer market. There will be at least one or two players leaving the Bernabeu, but some of the funds will come via the activation of sell-on clauses – which is exactly what will soon happen in the case of Victor Munoz.Last summer, Real Madrid sold Munoz to Osasuna for €6m. As part of that agreement, they retained a buy-back clause, while they also hung on to 50% of his rights – and this decision has proven to be masterstroke, as the 22-year-old has been excellent during his first season at El Sadar.Seven goals and five assists in 36 appearances does not tell the full story, as Munoz has been a constant threat for opposition teams whenever he has played. Understandably, his performances have caught the attention of numerous clubs across Europe, and one of them is Newcastle United. The Premier League club have been searching for a replacement for Anthony Gordon, whom they sold to Barcelona a few weeks ago. They have landed on Munoz as their leading target, and according to Diario AS, a deal to take him to the North East of England is almost done.Real Madrid decide against triggering buy-back clauseImage via Alex Caparros/Getty ImagesA €30m deal has been agreed in principle, with only minor details to be resolved before Newcastle can get their man. Real Madrid decided against activating their buy-back clause, but by retaining 50% of rights, they will be entitled to receive at least €15m.Real Madrid may well continue to keep tabs on Munoz during his time in the Premier League, although they will lose control of his future. However, that €15m will come in handy, as they continue searching for possible additions to Jose Mourinho’s squad for the 2026-27 season.

Packers relying on Lukas Van Ness 2026 breakout: 'I believe in him'
When the Packers drafted pass rusher Lukas Van Ness with the 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the bar was set high for the kind of impact he was expected to have. After a slow start in his first two seasons, Van Ness finally took a sizable step forward last year, ranking 19th among 124 eligible pass rushers in pass rush win rate, but his mini breakout was undermined by injuries, as he was only able to play in 10 games.Speaking to the media at minicamp earlier this week, Van Ness seemed frustrated by his injury-plagued 2025, and is hoping to put it behind him.He said: “My goal for this year is getting back to really having fun with football and enjoying it, and I think I’m doing that. With this new defense, (there’s) a lot of versatility, allowing us to play free without thinking, and I’m just having a lot of fun."“Two years ago dealing with my thumb, and this past year dealing with the foot injury, not the way I would’ve envisaged it going but that’s part of the game, part of football and I think I’ve learned a lot about myself internally."Van Ness certainly enjoyed himself at OTAs and minicamp, putting in one particularly impressive practice performance where he was constantly in the backfield. Quarterback Jordan Love knows how impactful LVN can be when he is on form.Asked what he thinks Van Ness has improved on, Love said: “The biggest thing with him is his get off. He was getting off the rock today and he’s got that speed that puts tackles in a bind.“They’ve gotta make sure they’re getting off at the same time as him. If not, he’s gonna beat you around that corner."He continued: “I’m excited for him and what’s gonna come this season. He’s in a great spot, he puts the work in, he’s a guy that’s always making practice hard on us."Micah Parsons has been one of Van Ness’s most vocal supporters since he arrived in Green Bay on the eve of last season, and when addressing the media for the first time this offseason, the All-Pro pass rusher was once again bullish on his running mate.He said: “Luke is someone that people sleep on the most and I don’t know why. I think by the end of the season if Luke stays healthy, I think he’ll probably be the (fan) favorite. That’s how much confidence I have in him."“I believe in him, I think sometimes he listens to (the media) and that gets to him, but I think he can be as great as he wants to be."Van Ness admitted it can be difficult to ignore the outside noise, saying: “Pressure is a privilege to have. You’ve just gotta believe in yourself and believe in what you’re hearing in the building and from your coaches, your circle and other players in the defensive room."“There’s a lot of noise out there, a lot of distractions, and just focusing on the guys in the building and the task at hand, which is winning Super Bowls. I’m feeling good, I’m feeling healthy, I’m getting back on a roll again."On Parsons’ support, Van Ness said: “I’ve learned a lot from Micah over the past year. He’s taught me a lot about how I can improve and work on my game. He’s a good guy to have in my corner."Jonathan Gannon is taking over as defensive coordinator for the 2026 season, meaning Van Ness will be playing in his third defensive scheme in four years. He believes Gannon’s defense will suit him, explaining: “It allows you to use your smarts on the field, kind of see the whole defense, make calls at the defensive line and be more involved, which I really enjoy. For me when I can verbalize what I’m seeing, it allows me to play faster."Coming out of Iowa, Van Ness was a young prospect – 21 years old on draft day – with a lot of growing to do. Patience was always going to be required, but with his combination of elite athleticism and work ethic, it is hard to truly fail.Head coach Matt LaFleur has been impressed with his progress, saying: “He’s shown a ton of growth. I think it’s reflective in his work of how he prepares, he’s always prepared the right way. For a lot of these rushers, it takes some time to get going."The time for Van Ness to ‘get going’ is now, and so far the indications are that as long as he stays healthy, a breakout campaign could be coming. The Packers are certainly relying on it.This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Packers relying on Lukas Van Ness 2026 breakout season

What we know about a possible deal to end the Iran war
A woman walks past an anti-American mural on the wall of the former U.S. Embassy, now a museum, in Tehran, Iran, Friday, June 12, 2026. (AP Photo/Vahid Salemi)2026-06-13T11:08:13Z TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The United States and Iran appear close to a deal to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz.Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Saturday that a deal aimed at ending the war in the Middle East is closer than “ever before” and expected to be finalized within 24 hours. Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the agreement, followed immediately by technical-level talks next week.Previous declarations of an imminent breakthrough failed to materialize. The apparent breakthrough in negotiations comes after Iran exchanged fire with the U.S. and Israel over three days this week, threatening to push the region into a full-scale war. U.S. Central Command late Friday said in a social media post that it intercepted several Iranian attack drones that were targeting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The war launched by the U.S. and Israel on Feb. 28 has rattled the Middle East and virtually shut down oil and natural gas shipments from the Persian Gulf. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since April 7. Here’s what to know: Iran’s nuclear program terms to be finalized within 60 days of the agreement.Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday the terms of dealing with Iran’s nuclear program would be finalized in the 60 days after the initial agreement is signed and that the parties could decide to extend that period.Iran’s nuclear program has been a key point of division. The U.S. and Israel fear it could lead to an atomic weapon — a main reason their leaders cited for going to war. Tehran has insisted its nuclear efforts are for peaceful purposes. A senior U.S. administration official, who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity under ground rules set by the White House, said Friday that the emerging agreement would begin the process of destroying or removing Tehran’s highly enriched uranium. Read More The official said the 60-day period after both sides sign the deal would be used to work out technical details for removing Iran’s enriched uranium. The official did not detail who the U.S. envisions taking charge of removing the uranium, believed to be entombed under three nuclear sites that were battered by American strikes last year. The deal will include conditions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, official saysThe U.S. official said the emerging agreement includes provisions for reopening the strait. Araghchi said Iran wants a deal that allows Tehran to charge ships “for services rendered” when they transit the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has imposed a toll system during the war, which the U.S. and other nations say violates international law.Transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for oil and natural gas, has been disrupted and crimped global energy supplies, driven up fuel prices and made food and other basics more expensive well beyond the region. The agreement is set to include Iranian sanctions reliefThree regional officials said the emerging deal is also expected to include the phased lifting of sanctions on Iran and the release of frozen Iranian assets. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the negotiations. They said they expect a signing ceremony for the agreement in the coming days after officials in Washington and Tehran approve it. What will happen to Lebanon remains unclearIran has insisted throughout that any deal must also include a ceasefire in Lebanon, where Israel has been fighting Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy militia. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Friday that Israel could still act independently toward Iran and that the country would not pull out of the zones it is occupying in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza, nor would it withdraw from the northern refugee camps of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Fighting continued in southern Lebanon on Saturday. —Associated Press writers Munir Ahmed in Islamabad, Michelle L. Price and Aamer Madhani in Washington and Russ Bynum in Savannah, Georgia contributed to this report.

Ukrainian drone strike kills 1 in southern Russia and triggers fire at sea terminal
In this photo provided by Ukraine's 65th Mechanized Brigade press service, a soldier practices military skills at a training ground near the frontline in the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine, Thursday, June 11, 2026. (Andriy Andriyenko/Ukraine's 65th Mechanized Brigade via AP)2026-06-13T11:39:01Z KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and injured three in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, local officials said Saturday, as part of Kyiv’s campaign of strikes on military and energy targets deep inside Russia. Drone debris sparked a fire at a sea terminal, local Gov. Veniamin Kondratyev said. He did not give details, but Russian news outlets reported that a Black Sea export terminal transporting terminal crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied gas in the village of Volna was damaged.Ukraine’s General Staff did not comment on the Krasnodar strike Saturday, but said that its forces had hit an oil preparation and pumping station overnight in Russia’s Volgograd region, as well as Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The attack comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country’s forces had struck several military and energy infrastructure sites deep inside Russia, including a military factory that he said supplied components for Russian drones and missiles. He said Wednesday that Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo long-range missiles had hit the facility in Cheboksary, in the Chuvashiya region, more than 900 kilometers (560 miles) from the front line. More than four years since the start of Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine, the more than 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line has remained largely static as swarms of drones hinder advances. As a result, both sides have increasingly relied on long-range strikes. Read More Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to strengthen air defenses after Ukrainian attacks set ablaze an oil terminal in St. Petersburg and also hit a nearby naval base, casting a cloud over a showcase economic forum in his hometown.Elsewhere, Russian attacks injured nine people in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, setting fire to a local marketplace, regional authorities said. Russia attacked three districts of the region more than 20 times with drones and aerial bombs, according to regional head Oleksandr Hanzha in a Telegram post on Saturday. Six were hospitalized including a man in critical condition, he added.___Follow the AP’s coverage of the war in Ukraine at https://apnews.com/hub/russia-ukraine

Franz Wagner Q&A: 'Trying to rehab the same injury three times in a year was tough for me'
Franz Wagner, the Orlando Magic forward who won gold with Germany at the 2025 Eurobasket, sat down with HoopsHype for an exclusive interview at the 19th edition of adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy.Wagner discussed his attendance at the camp as a special guest and also opened up about the adversity of suffering the same injury three times in one season, getting hurt after coming back early to play in Berlin, and his goals heading into next year.Injuries hit you hard this past year. How tough was that mentally and physically? Looking back, do you regret playing in the Berlin game, or did it worsen the injury?Franz Wagner: It was very challenging. At the end of the day, if we're not healthy as athletes, we can't do our jobs, so that's the most important thing. And so there's always that pressure that you need to be out there and perform and help the team out. So not being able to do that and not seeing the results in rehab, too, when you're going really hard, it was really frustrating for me. And basically, trying to rehab the same injury three times in a year was tough for me, always having the same kind of setback feeling. The way it went, I probably shouldn't have played. Everybody understands the situation that it was, and honestly, I hate to say it, but I don't really regret the decision to play. It was that special of a moment for me, and for a lot of other people who were there. So, it just happened to be a bad moment in time, probably, but maybe some people hate me for this, but it was a really special moment for my family and me. So, I was happy that I got the chance to at least be out there. Was it awesome playing in that game right after winning EuroBasket gold? How did it feel to cap off that year of German pride?FW: You gotta understand, basketball is a very much growing sport in Germany, and we have had great success with the National Team these last couple of years. So in my mind, I'm trying to capitalize on the moment a little bit, and the game in Berlin was a big part of that. Like I said, we need as many people, as many kids starting the sport to play, and that's kind of the whole goal of this, to grow the sport at home. And moments like that, I know I would have killed to be at an NBA game when I was a kid. So, I know how special it was for everybody who was there. Now that you're in the offseason preparing for next year, what is your mindset to avoid similar injuries? Are you changing anything about your approach?FW: For sure. It's rehabbing first of all, the injuries that I did have, and then sort of addressing some of the patterns, maybe why injuries keep coming up. That's the goal: that you're not hurt at all, and not just treating symptoms when they come up, but taking preventive measures. I have a great amount of time now in the summer to do some of that.Have you spoken to Sean Sweeney yet? What are the vibes so far, especially since he'll be your first new head coach in the NBA?FW: For sure, it's very exciting for all of us. We've played pretty much the same core together for five years, and it's gonna be a lot of change in the building next year. I haven't met [Sean] Sweeney yet in person, but just texting back and forth, you can feel the excitement from him too. And it speaks to his work ethic as well as character. Getting a job that young is not easy. It hasn't been too much; he's still in the Finals. I also want to respect that, but we're all really excited for next year. After consecutive premature playoff exits, what lessons are you taking from these past few years? Are there specific routines you're building or changing to help get the team to the next level?FW: The hope is that you learn these lessons once, and then you've got it down the next year. I can just say, we got a really talented roster. We got guys with high character and dudes that want to work hard and get better. And that's a really good starting point. And every great team has gone through disappointments in the playoffs. But, at the end of the day, you gotta get the job done, and I thought we were really close to it this last year, getting over that hump of winning a playoff series and finding a way to win a game on the road. These are baby steps on the journey, but those are things you gotta learn, especially as a young team. And, no, all we can do is kind of control each day, each moment as well as we can. As I said, prepare well for next year and then, yeah, hopefully take that next step together. With Paolo Banchero missing extended time, your role evolved into a jack-of-all-trades. How did you handle that shifting responsibility?FW: It can be a challenge. I know for individual coaches, too, sometimes that you kind of have to work on a little bit of everything. That's a big part of becoming a really good player is finding your niche a little bit and the things that you want to be really good at, and because you can't work on everything all summer, it's really important to pick two or three things that will get you the biggest reward. And even stretches with Paolo out, they gave me a lot of confidence because I was more on the ball and was able to make a lot of decisions, and sometimes even too much so, maybe, making some mistakes. But it's important as a player to get that opportunity. It's important to go through those mistakes sometimes, and that's the only way you're really going to grow and get better. I've tried to embrace those moments and just do the best I can.As you look toward next year with a new head coach and a clear core, what is the one challenge you all agree the squad must overcome to finally reach its full potential?FW: At the end of the day, it's having a high sense of urgency and accountability within the group, within the whole organization, and understanding that the window to win, especially with our roster and how contracts are, is small in the NBA. So we got to make sure we take advantage of that time. What does it mean to you to be at adidas Eurocamp? FW: It means a lot. It's still kind of weird seeing my sign up there, and I vividly remember being that age and like all the dreams I had and stuff I wanted to do. So, it's not that long ago for me, so it's kind of surreal to now be in that position. And, no, it's really fun and makes me remember all the things I went through, kind of to get here. And how's it feel to be someone who people are seeking out like, 'how do I do this, how do I do that,' and like actually like wanting to hear your opinion and experience here at Eurocamp. FW: It's kind of weird, bro, honestly. I'm still growing into that role a little bit. I vividly remember how nervous I was at camps like this, and like going up to a pro and stuff like that. So I want to do my best job, kind of take that nervousness a little bit, and I'm really excited when people ask me questions and when I get the chance to chat with them a little bit. That's the coolest part about this, just knowing kind of both sides of it and trying to help out. Maybe relieve some of that anxiety, maybe it's a lot of new things, and you're young, you haven't seen a lot, so it can be overwhelming sometimes. And I know very well how that felt. What you need to know: Haiti and Scotland open FIFA World Cup at Boston Stadium
Both teams return to the World Cup are prolonged absences. Haiti is back for the first time since 1974, with Scotland having last appeared in 1998. Neither side has ever gotten out of its group.Group C features heavyweights Brazil, who are five-time champions, and stacked Morocco, semifinalists four years ago. Any hope of moving on requires Scotland and Haiti to get a positive result from Saturday night’s game; for Scotland, it’s a must-win.It may be tempting to assume Haiti’s national team program is steps behind most others at the World Cup due to its comparatively low world ranking (83) and the nation’s recent geopolitical challenges, but don’t fall into this trap. Haitian players are accomplished in overseas leagues and are typically up for the game against bigger teams – they’ve pushed the U.S. to the brink twice at Boston Stadium.Scotland brings a well-rounded roster to the tournament, but head coach Steve Clarke is the architect behind his nation’s resurgence. The Scottish, currently ranked 41, have a roster full of players at or near their peaks, and have also made back-to-back appearances at the UEFA European Championships after a 24-year absence.Players to Watch:On the Scottish side, Scott McTominay is a midfield enforcer. A former Manchester United product who is now at Napoli, McTominay is an asset on both sides of the ball. He brings physicality and structure to the midfield but also lurks around the penalty area as an extra outlet in the attack. The highly technical Haitians can’t afford to be timid about going at the higher-ranked teams in this group, so expect local product Frantzdy Pierrot to be a target on offense (more about him below). That said, Haiti needs structure as well. Martin Experience plays left back, giving him responsibilities on both defense and attack. Look to him to provide cover on back line while also running at opposing defenders and serving dangerous crosses to Pierrot and co. from the flank.Local ties:Haiti: Frantzdy Pierrot, a Melrose High graduate and former Northeastern Husky, is probably the Haitians’ most-accomplished scoring threat. Now 31, he’s recorded 34 international goals and represents Caykur Rizespor in the Turkish first division. In May, he was honored in Boston by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and other prominent local leaders for “Frantzdy Pierrot Day.”Scotland: The Scottish helped grow the game of soccer, first tactically across the United Kingdom, and then via an immigrant diaspora in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Pre-industrialized Boston was home to a thriving Scottish immigrant league, and more than 80 Scotland-born players have suited up for the U.S. men’s national team over the decades. More recently, Steve Nicol, a Liverpool legend and son of Troon, Scotland, presided over the New England Revolution as head coach (2002-11) and helped scout several standout American players, including Clint Dempsey, Michael Parkhurst (Cranston, RI), and Taylor Twellman.Quick Pitch PointsTeam nicknames: Les Grenadiers (Haiti); The Tartan Army (Scotland)Odds: Haiti (+490) vs. Scotland (-175) | Draw (+320) | O/U 2.5 (-115/-111)Best World Cup finish: Haiti, group stage; Scotland, group stageCoaches: Sebastian Migne (Haiti); Steve Clarke (Scotland)Captains: Johny Placide (Haiti); Andy Robertson (Scotland)This is a developing story. Chelsea braced for Malo Gusto bid as Man City show interest
Chelsea braced for Malo Gusto bid as Man City show interestChelsea are braced for a summer upheaval that could see a few big-name players leave the club. There’s a decent chance that Malo Gusto could be one of them after French news publication L’Equipe reported that Manchester City are interested in the Frenchman. The report claims that City have ‘recently inquired’ about the 23-year-old right back, who has a long-term contract with Chelsea. It’s not enough to suggest a move is on the horizon, but it puts Gusto among a list of Chelsea players who could be making way this summer. The Blues will need to sell to balance their books after failing to qualify for the Champions League, and a lot of European clubs will be looking to take advantage.Gusto’s links to City are hardly surprising, especially with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca set to replace Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium. The France international, who is set to represent his country at the World Cup, was one of Maresca’s most trusted lieutenants during the Italian manager’s Chelsea days.A reunion at the Etihad isn’t far-fetched, although neither Chelsea nor Gusto have shown any indication that they’re ready to cut ties this summer.Gusto isn’t the only key Chelsea player linked with a summer exit. The Blues have plenty of high-value assets in their team, including Enzo Fernandez, who has reportedly made it clear that he wants to leave the club this summer.Interestingly, City are also among clubs reportedly considering a move for Fernandez, although any interested club will have to match Chelsea’s £120 million asking price. At the moment, Chelsea haven’t made any such demands for Gusto, although they’ll want to make a significant profit from the £31m they paid to bring him in from Olympique Lyon.Gusto made 49 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions last season, scoring three goals and chipping in with a further five assists.

Real Madrid no longer pursuing summer deal for €150m target
Real Madrid no longer pursuing summer deal for €150m targetEarlier this week, Real Madrid made an €150m offer for Julian Alvarez, which was rejected out of hand by Atletico Madrid. The Argentine striker was the mystery target that Florentino Perez teased during his presidential campaign, but despite hopes that the opening bid would be enough for a deal to be done, it was not the case.Upon rejecting Real Madrid’s offer, Atleti made it clear that they will not negotiate for Alvarez – as such, a deal would only be done if €500m, which is the value of his release clause, was paid. On the back of this, it has been decided by Perez and co that they will turn their attention elsewhere, as reported by Sport. It is not only because of Atleti’s stance that Real Madrid have moved on. According to the report, which takes information from Fabrizio Romano, there has been a complete breakdown between club bosses and the striker’s representatives, while the player himself is also very keen to move on quickly from the saga.Alvarez prefers to join Barcelona over Real MadridImage via Getty ImagesAlvarez is keen to leave Atleti this summer, but he has made it clear that his desired destination is Barcelona, who made an offer of €100m prior to Real Madrid’s €150m bid. However, the proposal that was presented by Los Blancos has made the Catalans’ pursuit more difficult, as they are very unlikely to pay the amount that Los Colchoneros have already knocked back from the Bernabeu club.Real Madrid have moved on from Alvarez, but it will be interesting to see who they target now with the €150m they have to spend. Michael Olise is another attacker that has been on their radar, but like Atleti, Bayern Munich have made it clear that they are also not open to receiving any offers.

I felt like a kid,” Kelly said postgame on Friday.Although Kelly has starting experience, Pirates manager Don Kelly confirmed he will be a bulk reliever for Pittsburgh. He also adds some more velocity to the bullpen as he touched 100 MPH in his debut. The Pirates manager, meanwhile, also believes Kelly can be an impact reliever for the Pirates going forward.“He can definitely be big for our bullpen, for sure, not just physically but also mentally,” manager Don Kelly said. “Today was one of those days that he showed what he can do. The whole thing did not go his way, but I feel like he's going to help us, and I believe his pitching will be huge for our team.”Kelly seemed to settle into the game, as after a leadoff double in the eighth, followed by a home run, he retired the final six batters in order, which gained him some confidence.Pittsburgh will look to even up its series against Miami on Saturday, with first pitch set for 4:05 p.m. ET.More MLB: Don Kelly Makes Feelings Clear On Bullpen Blowing Game

Updated Weather Report Calls For 100-Degree Heat, Multiple T-Storms At UFC White House
The UFC octagon and fighting arena during a media preview ahead of a planned UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, US, on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The mixed Ultimate Fighting Championship event on White House grounds planned for June 14 violates National Park Service environmental review regulations, two Virginia residents allege in a lawsuit challenging it. Photographer: Aaron Schwartz/Bloomberg via Getty Images | Bloomberg via Getty Images UFC’s long-awaited Washington D.C. takeover has experienced some inclement weather over the past few days and it appears (for now) that Sunday night’s event from the White House South Lawn might encounter the same event-altering conditions. As you know by now, this weekend’s UFC Freedom 250 fight card is a pretty big deal. It is by far the most high-profile event in mixed martial arts (MMA) history and a huge opportunity for UFC and its fighters to compete LIVE on Paramount+ for over one billion viewers. You can’t ask for much more than that. All of that said, event planning has not been smooth. Not only has the promotion been accused of hosting the one-of-one fight card in order to flex its relationship with President Donald Trump, but things like federal lawsuits, pesky gnats, canceled musical performances, and construction of “The Claw” have taken up a lot of effort over the past few weeks. The funny thing is that those issues aren’t even the biggest concern for UFC officials heading into Sunday. In reality, the weather is the greatest obstacle for UFC to hurdle at this time. The “Claw” is large enough to encompass the Octagon, but the event is still being held outside. If Sunday’s weather delivers rain, lightning, or even extreme humidity it could have a great impact on the fights themselves. While the weather is completely out of UFC’s control the promotion is still doing everything it can to plan ahead, including having a meteorologist onsite for real-time updates. As of Saturday morning, it looks like the weather might present some issues for Sunday’s Freedom 250 card. Per the National Weather Service, Washington D.C. is expected to offer up a high of 91 degrees on Sunday with humidity making it feel like 100 degrees. In addition, UFC officials might have to battle the rain once more as thunderstorms are expected in the early afternoon, between 4-5 p.m. ET, the early evening, and then once again before midnight. Total chance of precipitation in the afternoon is 60% with that decreasing to 40% in the evening. Not to mention winds that can reach up to 22 mph.Check it out below and let us know if the weather will hold for UFC’s White House mega-event!Sunday afternoon:A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 4pm and 5pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 93. South wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.Sunday night:A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.For more UFC White House fight card news and coverage click HERE.

3-Point Stance: The Patriots should hold on to Kayshon Boutte
Foxborough, MA - June 9: New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte catches the ball at practice on June 9, 2026. (Photo by Danielle Parhizkaran/The Boston Globe via Getty Images) | Boston Globe via Getty Images What’s the deal with Kayshon Boutte? The New England Patriots’ fourth-year wide receiver is coming off the best season of his career. Yet, he is the headline of trade rumors in New England, following A.J. Brown’s arrival at the start of June.On June 2, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on his podcast after the Brown trade that Boutte had shown interest in a trade out of Foxboro. Despite the report, Boutte told the media after Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp practice that he wants to remain in New England, citing the community, his teammates, and his coaches for his desire to stay.Having skipped the Patriots’ voluntary OTA practices earlier in the spring, Boutte was present for all three days of minicamp, spanning from Tuesday through Thursday. With those sessions now over, there’s extended downtime until training camp begins and veterans report on July 24, marking plenty of time to explore a potential deal, should that be the case. However, New England shouldn’t make Boutte immediately expendable because of Brown’s addition to the offense. The perks of active competitionIn fact, some of the Patriots’ receivers have made it clear they are actively embracing increased competition this offseason.“Man, I love it,” receiver DeMario Douglas said on Wednesday of the position battle. “I don’t think I’ve ever [shied] away from competition. [It’s] what makes that room better. If you [don’t have] competition there, that’s when people get lazy and complacent.”New England spent the offseason aggressively changing and adding talent around quarterback Drake Maye. Letting Boutte go doesn’t drastically change the position group, but it subtracts from the room’s goal of raising its standard, which would be counterproductive.“The talent is stacked, and that’s what you want,” Brown said about the receiver room on Thursday. “You want guys to push each other. We talk about [raising that standard all the time], pushing each other and holding everybody accountable.”The Maye and Boutte connectionWhile Boutte’s numbers from 2025 don’t necessarily catch the eye, with 551 yards and six touchdowns on 33 receptions, he and Maye already have an established connection.Maye took a liking to locating Boutte downfield last season, posting a 143.8 passer rating when targeting him. The quarterback found the LSU product on 12 of 20 deep targets during the regular season, totaling six touchdowns and 340 yards. That connection was also apparent in crucial moments against some of the NFL’s top cornerbacks, as seen in the Divisional Round against the Houston Texans. With New England up five to start the fourth quarter, Boutte lined up opposite $90 million First-Team All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley. The two battled toe-to-toe down the sideline before Maye lofted a deep shot toward the end zone, where the receiver extended for a spectacular one-handed catch as snow flurries fell inside Gillette Stadium, effectively sealing the playoff victory. The chemistry between Maye and Boutte still has room to develop next season as both players enter just their age-24 seasons. Furthermore, based on the Patriots’ moves this offseason and trading for a star playmaker like Brown, team brass is proving they are going all in with Maye still on his rookie contract. So, wouldn’t expanding on that pairing help maximize Maye’s ability and effectiveness on the field next season? It likely would, because the receiver then poised to replace Boutte on those downfield attempts is Kyle Williams. Maye’s deep shots to Williams last season resulted in a couple of memorable touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants. But the second-year receiver has struggled to consistently connect deep with Maye and remain on the same page.Williams has the potential to be an immensely effective pass-catcher for Maye given his explosive skillset. Still, there hasn’t been enough production from the 23-year-old to warrant the comfortability Boutte offers.Boutte’s impact outweighs his current priceAccording to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer on May 18, he believes Boutte would be available for a trade with compensation as low as a fifth or sixth-round draft pick — a minimal exchange when considering his impact on Maye.Although that doesn’t mean Boutte should be untouchable either. New England is getting thin at tight end with the season-ending injury to Julian Hill, a room head coach Mike Vrabel said they may need to add to. Veteran edge rusher Harold Landry and rookie Gabe Jacas also have yet to appear at practice this spring.Moving Boutte to fill needed depth could be an intelligent decision by the front office. That said, shopping him for a late day-three pick wouldn’t outweigh his current value to the team and its quarterback. Packaging Boutte in a more substantive trade would be the way to go.The Patriots are already paying their top receiver duo, Brown and Romeo Doubs, next season for their multi-year deals. They’ll also have to decide whether or not to re-sign slot receiver DeMario Douglas or veteran Mack Hollins. For that reason, they don’t need to retain Boutte after the 2026 season. But if Vrabel and company’s goal is to strategically leverage Maye’s rookie contract, Boutte fits into that equation.

Surrounded by Knicks fever, Spurs fans in New York need to celebrate, too
[BBC]New York City is pulsing with more energy than usual in the build-up to the Knicks facing the Spurs in a crucial game five of the NBA Finals tonight. But in a city fiery with Knicks passion and a championship on the line, it can be tough for San Antonio fans living in the same city."Spurs fans that live in New York City are just as much part of the city as anyone else," said Dave Rizo, owner of Yellow Rose, a San Antonio, Texas-themed restaurant in Manhattan. If the New York Knicks win tonight's game in the best-of-seven series, they will clinch the National Basketball Association championship for the first time in over 50 years - a huge moment for the team and its fans. Yellow Rose is one of a few local establishments recognizing New Yorkers with Texas roots and Spurs passion - and it tries to show up for them.A cardboard cutout of Spurs star Victor Wembanyama's face, a Spurs flag and painted banner, and a signed card from Spurs owner Peter Holt greet customers. But while it has livestreamed the Finals for customers, it's a restaurant - not a sports bar - and the vibe is pretty low-key. Rizo says he's keeping it that way. "I don't want to unintentionally add more fuel to any of the fire that's going on," the San Antonio native told the BBC. "I want this to be a safe space for people that are Spurs fans."[Getty Images]There have been a few instances of violence in New York City against Spurs fans, including one assault that landed a fan in the hospital and another in which a fast food worker wearing a Spurs jersey was attacked, according to local reports. Both Knicks and Spurs players have condemned the violence and harassment. 'City's gonna be crazy:' Knicks run electrifies NYC, as Trump's attendance locks down arena"We're just playing a game out there. And I'm all for passion, but with respect for each other. It's unacceptable," the Spurs' Wembanyama said recently at a press conference. The Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns echoed Wembanyama's sentiment, urging fans to "leave the physicality to everyone on the court".Finals fan harmony is possible though, according to those on the frontlines of frenzied watch parties. At Whiskey Tavern in Manhattan, manager Alex told the BBC that the bar has been packed on game nights - with both teams' fans watching together. "It's fun, it's good energy," Alex said. "Everybody's here just having a good time and celebrating either team. It is definitely heavily mixed."She said she hasn't seen any clashes or tension between the groups - and she's even seen Knicks fans reserve seats for Spurs fans. "It's all just people here together, she said.Bartender Markie insists that the sports bar where she works is a safe space for anyone to watch the game. But with a laugh, she also acknowledges that she hasn't seen "a single Spurs fan" on game nights at the bar, which has a capacity of around 250-300 people.Doris, a Brooklyn cocktail bar, also is striving for fan unity - sort of.It began calling itself a "makeshift sports bar" when the series started, welcoming all fans "whatever that hometown may be" - but with a not-so-thinly-veiled favorite. Its Instagram page features pictures of Texas' Lone Star beer, a mention of a Spurs legend Manu Ginobili jersey on display since 2013, and "go Spurs go" in all caps."Doris loves the Knicks, too! We just LOVE the SPURS more!" it says. Before game three, Rizo walked around the city in a Spurs jersey, and kept hearing "you better be careful" or, "you're really bold for walking around like that"."I didn't really think anything of it," Rizo said. But when he saw on social media the harassment and violence against Spurs fans, as a New York transplant for a decade, he said it made him sad. He is hoping for a Spurs win, but as both a New Yorker and a Texan, he's excited no matter what, he told the BBC."Either way, I win," he said, laughing. Barcelona scouting 18-year-old Australian wonderkid after rapid rise in MLS
Barcelona scouting 18-year-old Australian wonderkid after rapid rise in MLSAccording to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are closely monitoring the development of Lucas Herrington, the highly-rated Colorado Rapids defender who has emerged as one of the biggest young revelations in Major League Soccer this season. The 18-year-old centre-back has reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona’s youth scouting department, although no formal approach has been made and negotiations are not currently underway. For now, the Catalan club is simply observing a player whose rapid rise over the last 18 months has started attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Why are Barcelona interested? The outlet assures that Herrington’s profile fits many qualities that modern clubs look for in a central defender.Lucas Herrington will play at the World Cup. (Photo by Elizabeth Ruiz Ruiz/Getty Images)Standing at 1.93 metres (6’3”), the Australian combines physical presence with strong technical ability, making him an attractive prospect for teams that value defenders capable of contributing during the build-up phase.According to the outlet, Barcelona’s scouts have been particularly impressed by his composure in possession, aerial dominance and ability to play out from the back. Those traits have helped him establish himself as a regular starter despite his young age.Who is Lucas Herrington? After progressing through Brisbane Roar’s academy system, he made his professional breakthrough in 2025 when he secured a move to Colorado Rapids. The MLS club moved to secure his services, handing him a contract until 2029 with the option of extending it for an additional year. That investment is already looking justified.Lucas Herrington impressed in his debut MLS campaign. (Photo by Andrew Wevers/Getty Images)In his debut season with the MLS side, the teenager has become a key figure and has established himself as an undisputed starter despite competing in a demanding environment. In fact, he played every available league minute before the MLS season paused for the 2026 World Cup, which is a remarkable achievement for a player who only recently arrived from Australia.Naturally, those performances have also earned him international recognition, with Herrington included in Australia’s World Cup squad. At this stage, Barcelona’s interest remains at the scouting level rather than the recruitment phase, but that could change quickly, considering that if he impresses during the World Cup, other clubs might follow suit.

Kone tempted by Arsenal and PSG after rejecting Atletico
Kone tempted by Arsenal and PSG after rejecting AtleticoRoma has officially announced Tony D’Amico, and now the Giallorossi’s transfer window is heating up. In addition to contract renewals, the Roman club’s priority is to definitively close the settlement agreement with UEFA. Gian Piero Gasperini would like to retain key players, including Matias Soulé, but Manu Koné could receive offers that are hard to refuse. The French midfielder, whom Gasp, along with Evan Ndicka, would like to build the foundations of the team he will build for the return to the Champions League, has attracted interest from several European giants. And while the number 17 has said “no” to Atlético Madrid, other offers could shake him.Koné has long hoped to join PSG, which has established itself as the best team in Europe. Born about 10 kilometers from Paris, playing at the Parc des Princes would be a dream for the 2001-born player. But beyond Luis Enrique’s team, which hasn’t made any concrete moves so far, the French club’s latest opponent in the Champions League has also set its sights on the Roma player. According to Il Corriere della Sera, Arsenal have made initial contact with the player’s entourage, who is currently playing for France at the World Cup, to see if there would be an opening. And it’s clear that if one of the world’s top teams arrives, it’s hard to say “no” again. Meanwhile, the Roman club is looking around, and in the event of parting ways with their number 17, they’re interested in Yunus Musah.

Matias Soule draws interest in Saudi Pro League
Matias Soule draws interest in Saudi Pro LeagueRoma are aiming to build a dream attacking midfield, and to do so, the Giallorossi will be forced to sacrifice some players, also to meet UEFA requirements. The prime suspect to leave the capital this transfer window is Matias Soulé. The 2003-born player failed to establish himself in the second half of the season, and Gian Piero Gasperini has reportedly endorsed a potential transfer. In Trigoria, the number 18’s valuation is around €40 million, and he’s awaiting offers close to that figure. In addition to Borussia Dortmund, who are also interested in the 2003-born player, other clubs are poised to make their first concrete moves for the Roman winger.Soulé, according to Il Tempo, has attracted interest from Arab clubs. These clubs will undoubtedly have no trouble matching Roma’s demands, but it remains to be seen whether the 2003-born player would be open to the move. If Borussia Dortmund were to decide to move forward, the number 18 would certainly be more inclined to stay in Europe.

Spurs make bold move for Game 5 to limit Knicks’ road support while eyeing 3-1 Finals comeback
Photo by Alex Slitz/Getty ImagesThe San Antonio Spurs are trying to protect home court in every way possible before Game 5 of the NBA Finals.Down 3-1 to the New York Knicks after blowing a 29-point lead in Game 4, the Spurs need more than a clean tactical response. They also need Frost Bank Center to feel like a true home arena. That is where the latest ticket restriction comes in.Spurs make Game 5 ticket restrictionAccording to TMZ, the Ticketmaster page for Game 5 carried a clear local-sales warning.“Frost Bank Center is located in San Antonio, Texas. Sales to this event will be restricted to customers residing within a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center. Residency will be based on the credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside of a 150-mile radius of Frost Bank Center will be canceled without notice and refunds given. Please note there is a 4-seat ticket limit for transactions through the venue.”The message is simple. San Antonio does not want Knicks fans turning a potential road title clincher into another Madison Square Garden.Spurs need more than a ticket wallThe Spurs can try to limit blue and orange in the seats, but the harder task is on the floor.New York lead 3-1 after completing the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, winning Game 4 107-106 behind OG Anunoby’s late block and tip-in.Photo by Patrick T. Only one team has ever come back from 3-1 down in the Finals.A louder home crowd would help. But if the Knicks start fast, even a 150-mile ticket wall may not be enough to keep their travelling fans quiet.Knicks’ travelling army has beaten limits beforeThe concern is not imagined. Knicks fans have travelled relentlessly through this postseason, and similar attempts in Philadelphia and Cleveland did not stop them from making noise on the road. The 76ers restricted playoff ticket sales and even donated 500 tickets per remaining home game to local groups. Cleveland also tried to protect Rocket Arena, but reports still pointed to a major New York presence.Knicks fans were also well represented in San Antonio during Games 1 and 2. With Game 5 offering the chance to see New York win its first championship since 1973, demand has only grown.TMZ reported upper-level seats were going for at least $1,500, with some floor seats around $10,000. Other resale data had get-in prices closer to $1,200, while premium seats climbed much higher.Read more:Can one change end the Lakers’ centre nightmare? U.S. Open 2026: The protest of a Black teenager that almost ended the U.S. Open before it began
This year marks the 126th playing of the U.S. Open and the sixth time Shinnecock Hills has served as host. The championship has outlasted empires, survived two world wars and produced the most consequential leaderboards in American golf. But its history was nearly erased before it began. Here, at Shinnecock, in the summer of 1896, when a group of competitors threatened to walk out unless a Black teenager was removed from the field. What happened set in motion what the U.S. Open would become. The summer of 1896 was not a summer of easy things for John Shippen. He was 16 years old, maybe 17; the historical record is imprecise on the year of his birth, a fitting ambiguity for a man whose life the broader world would spend decades trying to make inexact. He had grown up near the grounds of Shinnecock Hills, the son of a Presbyterian minister who had come to the South Fork of Long Island to serve the Shinnecock Indian Nation. His mother was Shinnecock herself. Shippen had helped build Shinnecock Hills as a boy, part of the clearing crew that shaped the original course. Willie Dunn, the Scottish designer behind the finishing holes, taught some of the young workers to play. Shippen was a natural; by 16, he was Dunn's full-time assistant, giving lessons, repairing clubs, keeping scores. He was, by then, the first American-born golf professional when the U.S. Open came to Shinnecock that July. More U.S. Open preview stories Golf Digest Logo Why can't the USGA get Shinnecock right? U.S. Open preview How does 2026 Scottie Scheffler compare to 2025, and what does that really mean for Shinnecock? U.S. OPEN FAQs U.S. Open 101—Everything you need to know about this year's major at Shinnecock Hills The United States Golf Association was organizing only its second national open championship. The field was small, just 35 players, composed primarily of Scottish and English professionals who had immigrated to serve America's burgeoning appetite for the game. They were proud artisans of the sport, protective of what they considered their domain. When they learned that Shippen and Oscar Bunn, a player of Shinnecock Indian descent, had entered the field, a coalition of the immigrant professionals threatened a protest. They wrote a letter objecting to “colored boys meeting them on equal terms” and held a meeting before the tournament, threatening to collectively withdraw. A championship, they argued, was not a place for people like Shippen.Dom FuroreTheodore Havemeyer, a man whose fortune came from sugar refining, was the first president of the USGA, and he did not deliberate long. He told the protesting professionals, in terms that left no ambiguity, the USGA’s stance: “Gentlemen, you can leave or stay as you please. We are going to play this tournament tomorrow, with them—and with or without you.”The European professionals fell in line. The tournament began, and Shippen played. And for one round, John Shippen was the best golfer in America. He had not merely survived the protest or tolerated his inclusion. He played knowing that men in the same field had tried to have him removed from it, that his right to compete had been debated and bargained over like a commodity, that his presence was considered, by some, an affront. He responded not with bitterness but with the only answer that mattered: for 18 holes, he played better than all of them, a 78 tied for the lead.John Shippen was the first American-born pro in the country. (Photo courtesy of USGA Archives)His position did not survive the second 18, Shippen’s score ultimately undone when making an 11 on the 13th hole. By the time the damage he reached the next tee, the championship was out of reach. He finished with a total of 159, good enough for fifth place. For his efforts, he won $10.Shippen would return to the U.S. Open five more times. It took another 35 years before another Black man would compete at the U.S. Open. Shippen spent his professional life teaching golf at various courses, including Shady Rest Golf Club in New Jersey, one of the first golf clubs in the country to welcome Black members. He died in 1968, the same year that Bill Spiller, Charlie Sifford and Lee Elder were fighting battles Shippen recognized. History, for the most part, forgot him.Much is made about the U.S. Open’s meritocracy, how it doesn’t care about your name, your résumé, your tour affiliation or your agent's rolodex. It stems from Havemeyer's defense of Shippen and the championship itself. He defended the premise that the Open was open. Not a closed thing, not a credentialed thing, nd that performance, not origin, determined who belonged. And it stems from Shippen, a Black teenager, a child of Shinnecock. The psychological weight of what preceded that round would have undone most people. Instead, for a brief moment, he led the U.S. Open. If that 11 didn’t happen, he is remembered in a different light. Yet there’s a portrait of him at Shinnecock Hills today. His face is composed and steady, and does not look like a man who was nearly turned away. John Shippen looks like a man who belonged.

Can one change end the Lakers’ centre nightmare? The answer will surprise you
Photo by Luke Hales/Getty ImagesWhat stands out most about the Lakers’ offseason isn’t a splashy signing or a bold trade – it’s the way they’ve stopped trying to convince themselves everything is fine as is.For years, Los Angeles treated centre as an afterthought. Sometimes they leaned into small ball, other times they tried mixing up lineups, and often they just hoped their role players could hold up against bigger bodies. None of those approaches ever really stuck. Now, according to a Western Conference executive, the Lakers appear “laser focused” on fixing the spot once and for all. The executive told Heavy Sports that Los Angeles simply cannot compete in the West with its current situation in the middle. The comments were highlighted in a recent Lakers Daily report that framed center as the organisation’s top offseason priority.Photo by Michael Owens/Getty ImagesThe Ayton-Hayes Pairing Never Looked Like a Long-Term SolutionThis change isn’t just about who plays centre; it shows that Los Angeles has come around to what much of the league already knew. Their biggest issue wasn’t hiding anywhere – it was right there in plain sight.Last season, the Lakers relied on a mix of Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes to fill the void at centre. On paper, Ayton’s numbers were solid enough. He put up 12.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 block per game while shooting an efficient 67.1 per cent from the field across 72 appearances. Meanwhile, Hayes added a bit of bounce and activity off the bench. But in reality, nothing had been solved. The team still didn’t have a dependable interior presence, still struggled to clean up the defensive glass, and regularly found themselves exposed against top frontcourts in critical games.TheWestern Conference keeps exposing the same flawIt goes beyond just adding another centre. The Lakers need someone who can handle the demands of playing in the West. Nikola Jokic remains the toughest cover at the position, and Victor Wembanyama is changing expectations for interior defence. Oklahoma City’s length up front adds even more challenges.Los Angeles doesn’t need a perfect solution, but they do need a clear upgrade from what they have now. The center position has been consistently cited by league observers as one of the main reasons holding them back from becoming a real contender. That’s why recent comments from executives matter—center isn’t just another need anymore, it’s becoming the priority. Luka Doncic being around changes things too.Several offseason reviews have come to similar conclusions: Doncic is best suited alongside a defensive anchor who can rebound and work well in pick-and-roll situations. That profile helps focus their search on balance and defence rather than scoring alone.Top targets might be out of reachWalker Kessler and Jalen Duren have been linked to the Lakers throughout the offseason, but both players will be difficult to land. There’s already strong interest in each of them, and most around the league don’t expect their current teams to let them go easily. If those options are off the table, Los Angeles may have to cast a wider net. There are several veteran defenders and low-cost specialists being discussed around the league who could still offer more stability than what the Lakers had last season. The key isn’t just the name – it’s finding someone who can truly impact how teams approach playing against them. There will still be questions about roster depth, long-term flexibility, and how the team plans to maximise its star window, and those are all fair points. But none of them matters as much as what happens at center. While plenty of noise will always surround the Lakers’ offseason plans, the core issue hasn’t changed. The team has spent years trying to cover up a glaring hole in the middle, and recent reports indicate they’re finally done with stopgaps. Now comes the harder part: actually finding a solution.Read more:Giannis trade alert: The sneaky move that could make Boston championsUSMNT star Tyler Adams’ reaction to the Knicks’ NBA Finals comeback against the SpursReferee controversy erupts: The missed call that sank New York Knicks in Game 3

Converting chances 'missing piece of the jigsaw' - Lynch
Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch says his side's much more clinical finishing proved the difference in their 4-1 win over Bohemians at Celtic Park on Friday as they bounced back from a run of disappointing results. The Candystripes had gone seven games without a win before securing a convincing victory over Bohs in their Premier Division encounter.Harry Vaughan gave the visitors the lead on 17 minutes with a venomous effort from range, before James Clarke equalised against his former club.Three goals in eight second-half minutes sealed the win for the hosts, Conor Barr marking his first goal for his hometown club with a wonder-strike, before another from Clarke and one from Kevin Dos Santos rounded off the win.Clarke had a chance to complete his hat-trick, but had a late penalty saved."We have been creating lots and lots of chances but we just haven't been putting the ball in the net and that was the missing piece of the jigsaw," said Lynch."We said if we could start to find the net with the chances we're creating we'll win more football games and thankfully we did that."I don't think this performance was a million miles different from so many other performances but the chances that we created we scored."Derry hammer Bohs to end winless run in style'We had to keep believing'Despite winning just five of their 21 league games to date, Lynch's side sit sixth in the table."I'm absolutely delighted, delighted for the players. They deserved that. Delighted for the fans and everyone involved with the football club," added the former Larne boss."It was a tough first part of the season for us and I thought on so many occasions we didn't deserve what we got."We just had to keep believing that if we kept doing the right things we would get the reward and thankfully tonight was one of those nights."Goalscorer Barr is one of the players who has impressed the Derry manager in recent weeks despite the side's underwhelming results."We've been crippled with injuries this year and it's been hard to get two successive starting XIs on the pitch but that's been a blessing in disguise for others."Conor Barr came in a few weeks ago and has arguably been one of our best players. "We've got one win and we have to build on that, take belief from it, and keep doing the work we've been doing."

Blue Jays' offensive problems are a 'real' concern per ESPN analyst
Blue Jays' offensive problems are a 'real' concern per ESPN analyst originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Toronto Blue Jays are not having the best season, though they've bounced back from a rough start to the year and are now 34-36, which is good enough to be just 0.5 game back of a Wild Card spot. They're in the playoff hunt still, despite a sub .500 record. But, more importantly, they have a huge issue to fix this season that could make-or-break their season. That issue is the offensive output from the lineup.ESPN's David Schoenfield made the case that these offensive concerns are "real," and not just a temporary problem due to injuries and slumps from key sluggers. The Blue Jays' offense is a very real problem this season.Blue Jays' offensive woes are 'real' problem in 2026In calling the Blue Jays lineup an issue, Schonefield handed out a "real" verdict, indicating that this is something to worry about."You can blame injuries for the offensive woes - and that's certainly part of it - but the Jays are still making contact at a high rate," Schoenfield writes. "Only the Tampa Bay Rays strike out less often. Their isolated power, however, has dropped from .162 (12th in the majors) in 2025 to .136 (26th) this season."Looking across this lineup, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is struggling, George Springer isn't as good as he was last season, and Daulton Varsho, Alejandro Kirk, and Addison Barger have missed time this season while not performing as well as they did a year ago.Even though Kazuma Okamoto has been a great addition, the Blue Jays' offensive performance this season is well below where they should be, considering how good 2025 was for this team.MORE: Yankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution Players aren't performing as well as they did a year ago, the team is suffering from injuries to key players, and more importantly, the margin for error is a lot slimmer.Run prevention has been an issue for the Blue Jays this season, which has made their offensive woes sting a lot more. Fixing things as a team won't come just through the hitters getting right; they need the pitching staff and the defense to right the ship, too.Schoenfield called the Blue Jays' lineup struggles this season a "real" concern. This was meant to be a World Series-caliber season. But, with how badly the lineup has struggled, it's hard to imagine this team winning a postseason series, let alone multiple en route to a title.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMPhillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was genius
