SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPhillies' Bryce Harper receives strange All-Star voting resultsPhillies' Bryce Harper receives strange All-Star voting results originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Philadelphia Phillies have some high-quality candidates for the NL All-Stars this season, which happen to take place in Philadelphia.Kyle Schwarber, Cristopher Sanchez, and very likely Jhoan Duran are locks for the All-Star team this season. Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh are solid candidates, but their status is still a bit uncertain at the moment. However, as USA Today's Bob Nightengale shared, the first wave of voting for the All-Star Game has come in, and for Harper, there are some strange results so far.Bryce Harper receives strange All-Star voting resultsHarper received 651,792 votes so far, which places him third, and currently on the outside looking in for the NL All-Star team. He's behind Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers at 870,606 votes and Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves at 802,848 votes. It's not a total surprise that Harper is third behind these two, considering Olson has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season, and Freeman has a massive advantage thanks to the massive Dodgers fan base when it comes to the fan vote.Harper has been a bit better than Freeman this season, with Harper's .860 OPS a tab better than Freeman's .836 OPS. Olson has an .894 OPS for reference. But it's close enough that it's not too strange for Harper to be third in this group.MORE: Phillies extending Cristopher Sanchez to his $107 million deal was geniusWhat is strange about the All-Star voting results so far is that Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm both somehow, unlike Harper, were second-place in their respective positional categories for All-Star voting.Despite both Stott and Bohm having OPS marks well below .700, they received the second-most votes at second base and third base, respectively.Marsh placed third for NL outfielders, while Schwarber was second behind Shohei Ohtani for designated hitters. But, somehow, Harper is in a worse spot than Bohm and Stott for his All-Star position this year. This obviously isn't the final voting results, and Harper still has a better chance to earn an All-Star bid this year than either Stott or Bohm. But it doesn't change the fact that this is a strange first result for Harper.More MLB news:5 reasons to believe in Jordan Walker's breakout for CardinalsEx-MLB GM projects White Sox to sell at trade deadline despite 2026 successTarik Skubal being traded by Tigers would help him in free agencyCubs’ cost to trade for Tarik Skubal from Tigers revealed by ex-MLB GMYankees’ Ryan McMahon problem has a $25 million release solution0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM49ers may have found their next breakout offensive star for 202649ers may have found their next breakout offensive star for 2026 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The San Francisco 49ers have put themselves in a great spot to be one of the elite teams in the NFL this upcoming season. The 49ers are a star-studded team on both ends with players like Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Mike Evans, George Kittle and Trent Williams getting all the headlines, and deservedly so. The offense is loaded with talent thanks to those names above; however, it's the other contributors who could take the 49ers over the top.One name that has been predicted to be a breakout player for the team is offensive lineman, guard Dominick Puni. Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports believes Puni will be the breakout star for San Francisco. "After an impressive 2024 debut -- especially for a third-round rookie -- Dominick Puni wasn't quite as good in 2025 according to PFF, but he still only gave up one sack. He has started every game at left guard for Kyle Shanahan's club since he arrived, which is no small feat considering how many 49ers have been injured recently. At his best, Puni is a physical mauler in the ground game who can really move people. If there's a leap to be made in his pass protection in Year 3, he could ascend to one of the league's more well-regarded interior linemen." Dominick Puni establishing himself as top linemanPuni has established himself as a key and important player on the roster for the 49ers. The 26-year-old has emerged on the offensive line, helping stabilize that unit, which has been a cause for concern for the team for several seasons. Puni is arguably the best offensive lineman not named Trent Williams. Puni does it all for San Francisco, including being a critical piece to their run game. Health will be key for Puni, as he dealt with a PCL injury early on in the 2025 season. In 2026, if health is on Puni's side, he could certainly be a Pro Bowl candidate and help improve the pass protection for Purdy and the rush attack for McCaffrey.More NFL news: 49ers' Kyle Juszczyk embracing overlooked status as Rams and Seahawks dominate offseasonRams legend Eric Dickerson sends strong message to Aaron Donald amid comeback buzzSaints' next Alvin Kamara step could reveal full plansJets backup RB crossing his fingers he's not returning kicks this year0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMShould the Nets choose Darius Acuff or Nate Ament in 2026 NBA Draft? The Brooklyn Nets will have an important decision to make with the No. 6 overall pick later this month when the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft happens on Jun. 23. Brooklyn has been linked to various players throughout the pre-draft process, especially guys like Arkansas guard Darius Acuff Jr. and Tennessee forward Nate Ament. Who should the Nets choose, though? In recent mock drafts by Bleacher Report and the Associated Press, the Nets were projected to take Acuff or Ament with the No. 6 pick, respectively, which is interesting given the different roles that they would serve in Brooklyn. If the Nets select Acuff, they would be leaning into the fact that he can be a lead ball-handler for an NBA offense while Ament presents as a forward with great positional size that can hopefully develop into an elite shotmaker at the next level."They'll most likely be looking at the top guards, with Darius Acuff Jr. the type of engine who'll look attractive to a rebuilding team. Per sources, he's already conducted a workout for Brooklyn," Jonathan Wasserman wrote on Acuff for Bleacher Report. Acuff seems to have all the tools necessary to be the kind of guard that can elevate the players around him, especially with his ability to score the ball. Ament has his own qualities as well."There’s an intriguing blend of versatility and fluid athleticism with the 6-10, 211-pound freshman, a playmaking passer and No. 2 scorer (16.7) for a team that reached the NCAA Elite Eight," Aaron Beard and Brian Mahoney wrote of Ament in their mock draft for the Associated Press. Ament showed what he could do as a scorer during his lone season with the Volunteers, but there are concerns about whether his scoring will translate to the more physical NBA.What makes Brooklyn's decision interesting is that they are likely considering more players than just Acuff and Ament, but they can also decide to move up or back depending on what offers are on the board. Be that as it may, Acuff and Ament have each drawn their share of buzz in connection to the Nets so general manager Sean Marks and the front office will have to decide which guy is the right fit for this rebuild. This article originally appeared on Nets Wire: Should the Nets choose Darius Acuff or Nate Ament in 2026 NBA Draft?0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMFabrizio Romano drops update on Darwin Nunez’s potential return to LiverpoolFabrizio Romano drops update on Darwin Nunez’s potential return to LiverpoolLiverpool Transfer Latest: Fabrizio Romano Responds to Darwin Nunez Return ClaimsLiverpool have been drawn into fresh speculation around Darwin Nunez after reports in Uruguay claimed the forward was set for a return to Anfield.Nunez left Liverpool last summer to join Al-Hilal in a deal worth €53m, around £46m, but his time in Saudi Arabia has not developed as expected. The striker struggled to make the desired impact in the Saudi Pro League and was then left stunned when Al-Hilal signed Karim Benzema midway through the campaign. That move pushed Nunez further down the pecking order and ultimately led to him being omitted from Al-Hilal’s Pro League squad for the remainder of the season. With the relationship damaged, Nunez and Al-Hilal have now mutually agreed to terminate his contract just one year into his spell in Saudi Arabia. That has made the Uruguay international available on a free transfer, with Liverpool among the clubs to have been offered the player.Photo: IMAGOIraola Factor Adds Logic to SpeculationThere are clear football reasons why the links have gained attention. Andoni Iraola has just arrived as Liverpool head coach and his system demands aggressive pressing, relentless running and intensity from the front.Nunez, for all the inconsistency that marked his first spell at Anfield, always offered energy and chaos without the ball. That profile would appear to fit aspects of Iraola’s preferred approach.Liverpool also have concerns in attack ahead of the new campaign. Hugo Ekitike is expected to miss around half of the season while recovering from an Achilles tendon rupture, leaving Alexander Isak as the main senior option through the middle.Isak’s quality is clear, but Liverpool will be conscious of his injury history. That combination has made the idea of a Nunez return feel more plausible, at least from the outside.Romano Dismisses Liverpool Return ClaimsHowever, Fabrizio Romano has now moved to cool the story significantly.A report from Uruguayan journalist Juan Pablo Romero, relayed by Martin Charquero, claimed: ‘ATTENTION. Darwin Núñez returns to Liverpool. The confirmation will not be given in these days since the player asked to be focused with the Uruguayan National Team. Information from @jpromeroh on #Minuto1.’Romano has since stated that this version of events is not backed up by those close to the player.“My information is that those close to Darwin and those close to Darwin’s camp deny this information,” explained Romano on his YouTube channel. He added: “They say it’s not true, that there’s nothing ongoing with Nunez and Liverpool.”Liverpool Situation Remains One to WatchThe expectation remains that Darwin Nunez will find a new club this summer. Being available as a free agent changes the financial dynamics and will naturally attract interest from across Europe and beyond. For Liverpool, the current position appears clear. There may be logic to the idea, there may even have been an opportunity presented, but there is no advanced move at this stage.Fabrizio Romano’s update leaves little room for claims that a return has already been agreed. As things stand, Liverpool are not progressing towards re-signing Darwin Nunez, despite the noise around his Al-Hilal exit. That does not mean the situation cannot evolve. Liverpool’s forward planning under Iraola remains active, particularly with Ekitike sidelined and squad depth under scrutiny. But for now, the suggestion that Nunez’s second Anfield spell has been approved appears premature.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

WWW.LGBTQNATION.COMRemember when Trump’s lesbian niece explained the president’s mental decline in just 4 words? The president’s lesbian psychologist niece, Mary Trump, recently took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test used to assess an adult’s cognitive impairment and dysfunctions. Donald Trump bragged about acing the test in the past. But even though she did well on the MoCA too, she warned that the president displays evidence of declining mental abilities. The 79-year-old president took the MoCA earlier this year and claimed it was “very hard.” He then publicly insulted Democratic Reps. Jasmine Crockett (TX) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) by suggesting that he would outscore the two progressive congresswomen of color if they took the same assessment. Related Trump’s lesbian niece explains how his upbringing caused him to want Qatar’s luxury airplane Donald Trump also took a cognitive exam while receiving an MRI for unspecified reasons during a physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in January 2018. While he reportedly achieved a perfect score of 30, MRIs are a non-invasive imaging technique often used to assess brain activity, cognitive function, and even injury and abnormalities in the brain, the nervous system, or in other body parts. Mary Trump took the MoCA in a video that she posted online yesterday. The test involves tasks like drawing a clock, copying a cube, recalling a list of words, identifying objects, repeating sentences, and answering questions about the date and location. In all seriousness, Donald Trump is not a well man. We need to continue to focus on the ways in which he is deteriorating cognitively, psychologically, emotionally, and intellectually.” This marks the second recent occasion in which a psychologist suggested that the president has demonstrated an immense cognitive decline. In October, Dr. John Gartner told The Daily Beast that the nearly 80-year-old president is exhibiting a “massive increase” in “clinical signs of dementia,” exacerbating the president’s “malignant narcissism.” Gartner noted the president’s “disordered” thinking and compared his rambling and nonsensical public speeches to dementia patients who “pick up on one concrete physical detail” and then “free-associate” away from the original topic. He also noted Trump’s fabrication of nonexistent events and his forgetting of politicians’ and countries’ names. “People don’t make those kinds of [recurring speech errors] if they’re tired or if they’re aging,” Gartner said. “It’s something very specific that is linked to dementia and organic, cognitive decline…. This is really someone who could wake up and — in a state of complete confusion and erratic irritation — do something catastrophic.” Subscribe to the LGBTQ Nation newsletter and be the first to know about the latest headlines shaping LGBTQ+ communities worldwide.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior -
APNEWS.COMCape Verde stuns Spain with a surprising 0-0 draw in the country’s World Cup debutCape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha (1) makes a save during the World Cup Group H soccer match between Spain and Cape Verde in Atlanta, Monday, June 15, 2026. (AP Photo/Mike Stewart)2026-06-15T17:23:56Z ATLANTA (AP) — Tiny Cape Verde pulled off a stunning result in its World Cup debut, shutting out heavily favored Spain. An impressive performance by 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha helped Cape Verde play one of the favorites to win the tournament to a surprising 0-0 draw. The final score is the biggest shock of the tournament so far, with Spain a -1200 favorite to win the match by some bookmakers.“The team tried,” said Spain midfielder Rodri. “It’s about fine-tuning those chances we created because against a team that sits back so much you’re not going to have many, and you know you have to take them. It’s that simple.”Cape Verde actually had a chance to win the game, but Diney Borges’ late header was saved by Spain keeper Unai Simon. European champion Spain’s roster is filled with superstar players. But they were frustrated by the underdogs from Cape Verde, with Vozinha pulling off a string of saves before halftime. Barcelona forward Ferran Torres came closest to scoring for Spain, hitting the bar with shot and later forcing a save from Vozinha on another well-struck ball. The keeper also denied Pedri and pushed away another potential score late in the half. Cape Verde — a group of islands with around half a million inhabitants — is playing at its first World Cup. The 2010 champion Spain is aiming to win the World Cup for a second time, but coach Luis de la Fuente warned on Sunday that Cape Verde could be one of the surprise teams of the tournament.Cape Verde continued to defend stubbornly in the second half and not even teenage star Lamine Yamal could turn the game Spain’s way after he entered the match. ___James Robson is at https://x.com/jamesalanrobson___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/fifa-world-cup 获取更多RSS:https://feedx.net https://feedx.site0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArsenal target is compared to Rooney and BellinghamArsenal target is compared to Rooney and BellinghamAyyoub Bouaddi is one of the players Arsenal want to sign, and the midfielder has now been compared to Wayne Rooney and Jude Bellingham. The Moroccan teenager is regarded as one of the most exciting young midfielders in European football, with Lille once again appearing to have developed another standout talent capable of generating significant transfer interest in the future.Although the midfielder is currently content at the Ligue 1 club, there is growing expectation that a move to a larger European side may eventually materialise. Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring his progress closely and are keen to strengthen their squad with his arrival. The Gunners continue to track his development and view him as one of the most promising young players on the continent. As a result, they are determined to compete with Paris Saint-Germain and other elite clubs for his signature.Bouaddi remains open to staying at Lille to continue his development, although a transfer after the World Cup could become more likely depending on his performances. Arsenal are hopeful that they will be in a strong position to secure his services should he decide to take the next step in his career.Rising Comparisons in European FootballEuropean football journalist Andy Brassell has drawn significant comparisons between Bouaddi and some of the game’s most influential midfielders. As reported by TalkSport, he said:“He’s fantastic.“He’s not the same player as Wayne Rooney, obviously, but I think you get a little bit of that Wayne Rooney or Jude Bellingham feel for him.“In terms of how he’s physically built, it says on his birth certificate that he’s a boy, but he looks like a man immediately.”Arsenal Battle for Elite TalentSuch comparisons underline the growing reputation Bouaddi is building within the game, particularly given his age and rapid development at senior level. His physical presence combined with technical ability has made him one of the most closely followed prospects in Europe.Arsenal’s interest reflects their ongoing strategy of recruiting elite young talent before they reach their peak. However, competition from other top clubs means any potential transfer is likely to be highly contested. If Bouaddi continues his upward trajectory, he could become one of the most sought-after midfielders in world football in the coming years._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow….You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWashington Commanders minicamp preview: Jayden Daniels, Sonny Styles and moreThe Commanders have reached the pinnacle of their offseason program. Veteran minicamp is nearly upon us, with a three-day practice session starting on Tuesday at the team’s training facility in Ashburn, VA. They’ve conducted a full strength and conditioning program and nine OTA sessions to this point. The Commanders still haven’t thrown the pads on and won’t until late July, but we’ll reach new heights of activity over the next three days. This minicamp stands a milestone for where the Commanders are and where they need to go in training camp. Here are three things to keep an eye on as we move into the summer: Jayden Daniels progress Commanders quarterback was under center for 32 dropbacks in two seasons, by far the lowest in the NFL during that span. Let’s be honest, Kliff Kingsbury’s offense is rooted in college concepts. That doesn’t make Kingbury’s system bad, it simply was what it was. It’ll be far different under new coordinator David Blough, who will presumptively install a system somewhat similar to what Ben Johnson ran when they were together in Detroit and runs now in Chicago. Daniels is confident that he can execute an under-center offense and has performed well doing that this spring, but he’s the lynchpin to Washington’s entire operation. If he can perform in this new system, we should see something similar to what Caleb Williams did in Chicago. I was there, with boots on the ground, for the Bears’ 2025 campaign. I believe Daniels is capable of what Williams did or better in what we expect from Blough’s scheme. Expect some growing pains, but signs of progress should be evident during this minicamp. Sonny Styles taking control It’s entirely possible that we’re harvesting low-hanging fruit here, but keeping a close eye on the No. 7 overall NFL draft pick isn’t a bad idea. Sonny Styles is one of those dudes, with a legit perfect Relative Athletic Score, someone seemingly destined to make an instant impact. While he doesn’t play a premium position, he plays an essential one, as middle linebacker and field general for everything the Commanders will do on defense. He’s as fast as the safety position he played at Ohio State, yet as physical as the linebacker spot he now occupies, a rare combination that should make him a weapon in Washington. The green dot conversation has been discussed ad nauseum, but I think we can all agree it’s beneficial if Styles just takes the gig. He has so much room to grow and is far from being a Commanders captain, but fans should see a step in leadership and schematic understanding in this minicamp. The better he is at this stage, the better he’ll be in the summer and the fall. Non-Terry McLaurin WR options It’s borderline assumed that the Commanders will add someone to the receiver group before Washington starts playing for keeps. Brandon Aiyuk is the natural assumption, with his 49ers connection to GM Adam Peters and the fact he can’t stop wearing Commanders gears in his Instagram posts. One issue: he’s still under San Francisco’s control. It seems highly unlikely the Commanders acquire him without a trade, but it’s plain to see that he’s a bit erratic. Stefon Diggs is also on the market and could come home to the DMV, but that’s super far from certain at this stage. The Commanders currently employ Terry McLaurin, an elite athlete and obvious No. 1 receiver. There’s Treylon Burks behind him, with Luke McCaffrey and third-round rookie Antonio Williams in the mix. There should be focus on these non-McLaurin receivers and how they fare. The Commanders front office will likely do the same as they decide whether to spend on a free agent or pursue Aiyuk in trade or to secure the asset after San Francisco inevitably releases him.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSenegal aim to overcome 'regrettable' absence of fans denied World Cup visasSenegal are hoping to make a big impression at the World Cup despite their fans being denied visas to travel to the United States (JULIEN DE ROSA)The secretary general of the Senegalese Football Federation has told AFP he is confident his country can have a big impact at this year's World Cup despite the "regrettable" decision of US authorities to refuse to issue visas to their supporters.Senegal is one of several countries participating at this year's World Cup whose supporters have not been able to travel to follow their team due to the tight immigration restrictions imposed by co-hosts the United States. The Lions of Teranga are playing their first two group games in the US, beginning against France on Tuesday in New Jersey, where they will also play Norway on June 22."It is true that this World Cup is particularly difficult, but you know every country is a sovereign power and has its own rules," Abdoulaye Sow told AFP at the Senegal team base, an hour south of Manhattan."The United States has its own laws and regulations and these laws mean that –- unlike European countries for example -– we are not able to benefit from the support of many Senegalese people, and many African people, who wanted to come."It is really regrettable. FIFA knew about all this. These are the laws of the United States and we have to respect them."This is Senegal's fourth appearance at a World Cup, but it is the first time they have entered a tournament without an official fan group coming to back them at the government's expense.Pape Thiaw's team must overcome that handicap as they aim to live up to their billing as dangerous outsiders in the competition. The team's best performance to date came in 2002, when they reached the quarter-finals. They reached the last 16 four years ago in Qatar."It is obvious that the African countries are impacted" by the visa restrictions, said Sow, whose nation are one of a record 10-strong contingent of teams from the continent at the expanded tournament."Senegal have been used to having the 12th man behind them. We will be denied that," he added."But there are Senegalese people and African people here. And in any case the match will be won on the pitch. And the supporters will not be on the pitch."- 'Champions of Africa' -Ranked 16th in the world, a Senegal side still led by former Liverpool star Sadio Mane are itching to get their campaign started. The last few months have been overshadowed by the controversy of January's Africa Cup of Nations final, which Senegal won 1-0 against Morocco after extra time. But that was after most of their players walked off the pitch in protest at a late penalty given to Morocco, and the Confederation of African Football later stripped Senegal of their title as a punishment.Senegal have taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and are awaiting the outcome of their appeal."It is clear that until we get the decision of the CAS, Senegal remain the champions of Africa," said Sow."We are just focused on the World Cup. For us, the AFCON is behind us. We won it on the pitch, and there is a legal battle ongoing."We have faith in the CAS. They will make a decision when the time comes. But that is not our priority right now."as/nf0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

James Talarico (D) is “a barely straight” version of former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and then said that that’s why he wouldn’t want Talarico “around my young kids.” Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX), age 32, was speaking with Fox host Kayleigh McEnany about the state’s U.S. Senate race when McEnany asked whether Talarico’s politics are “representative of Texas.” Related GOP gov posts picture of James Talarico as a woman while attacking his climate action bill Gill said that no one at the Texas Republican Convention thinks that Talrico “is in any way reflective of normal Texas values.” It’s unclear why he framed his statement this way, since it’s not exactly surprising that people at the Texas Republican Convention wouldn’t support the Democratic candidate for Senate. But then Gill dug in and brought up how Talarico supports transgender kids, saying that his support shows that Talarico “is not the kind of person that I would want around my young kids.” Your LGBTQ+ guide to Elections Stay ahead of the election with our newsletter that covers candidates, issues, and perspectives that matter. McEnany said that it’s “scary” for Christians to think that Talarico might win the Senate race. “Does he have a shot or is this [Beto] O’Rourke 2.0?” she asked, invoking a past Texas candidate who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate in 2018. Gill said that Talarico is “a much more effeminate version of Beto O’Rourke,” adding that he thinks Talarico doesn’t eat enough meat. Talarico is “somebody who is really obsessed with children, someone who I don’t think is normal.” Conservatives often accuse LGBTQ+ people of being a threat to children, and it’s a hateful stereotype. “I think of James Talarico as a barely straight version of Pete Buttigieg: people in Washington love him, but he doesn’t work with the rest of the country,” Gill concluded. THEONION.COME.T. Admits Shock At Not Even Being Called For Cameo In ‘Disclosure Day’LOS ANGELES—Saying a courtesy call would have been nice even if nothing ever came of it, E.T. told reporters Monday he was shocked at not being contacted by director Steven Spielberg for a cameo in his new sci-fi movie Disclosure Day. “I knew I wasn’t going to be the lead, which was totally fine, but are you telling me that after more than 40 years of friendship, he can’t pick up the phone and say he’d love to throw a few lines my way?” said the extraterrestrial, adding that it was him and his “glowing fucking fingertip” that gave Spielberg one of the top-earning movies of all time. “I mean, who’s in the logo of his production company? Not Gizmo, that’s for goddamn sure. But somehow I don’t get a single feeler from Mr. Nicest Guy In Hollywood even though I said on Reddit not two years ago that I was eager to get back into acting now that I’ve put my personal demons behind me. Well, guess what, Stevie? You had your chance, buddy boy. When George Lucas calls, you’d better believe I’ll be picking up.” When reached for comment, Spielberg simply stated that he and E.T. had not spoken in many years, but that he wished him all the best. THEONION.COMAriana Grande Fans Slam Body-Shamers For Pointing Out Singer Actively On FireOAKLAND, CA—Stressing that it was never okay to criticize someone’s appearance, Ariana Grande fans reportedly took to social media Monday to slam body-shamers for pointing out that the singer was actively on fire. “One, she’s always been naturally flammable, and two, she’s asked people to stop talking about the fire multiple times,” said 29-year-old Emma Dunning, who vigorously defended Grande’s new look in a comments section online after photos from the Eternal Sunshine Tour showed the singer performing with a visible blaze consuming her from head to toe. “Whether or not she’s engulfed in flames is nobody’s business but her own. To be honest, those 10-foot-tall flames don’t even look that serious to me. Besides, some women actually feel healthier when they’re burning down to ash.” At press time, Dunning added that those bringing up the fire were likely just jealous that they weren’t ablaze themselves. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWorld Cup 2026: Christian Pulisic limited in training as USMNT star manages calf injuryIRVINE, Calif. — Nursing a calf injury that forced him from the U.S. World Cup opener Friday, Christian Pulisic worked on the side instead of joining his teammates for the start of training Monday.U.S. Soccer Federation spokesman Michael Kammarman said Pulisic was doing a “modified training session [and] gym and individual field work.”With four days until the U.S. faces Australia in Seattle — a meeting of Group D’s undefeated teams — the Americans got back to work at Great Park after an off-day Sunday. As customary, reporters were permitted to watch the first stage of training before being escorted back to the media center. While his teammates went through standard exercises and ballwork, Pulisic was in a tented gym adjacent to the field using a full-body workout bike.He was not made available for comment. In a casual field-size exchange with reporters, coach Mauricio Pochettino said Pulisic was “good.”Pulisic was in terrific form in the first half of the 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the group opener at SoFi Stadium but did not return after halftime. He had initially suffered the ailment in training last week. After the match, both Pulisic and Pochettino played down the severity.“I just got a bit of a kick in the first half, so I'm really hoping it's nothing, taking a little bit of precaution, but I'm hoping I'll be fine in the next few days,” Pulisic said. “But I've had similar things before, and I’m staying positive. I don't think it's anything.”The Americans’ three-goal lead also seemed to play into the decision to remove him in favor of Sebastian Berhalter."Everyone, let's relax,” midfielder Tyler Adams said Monday. “I think he picked up a knock a few days before the game and got kicked in the same spot again during the game. When you go into halftime, things obviously get tight, but he'll be fine." Forward Haji Wright added, "He's doing well. I don't think it's anything too serious."0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhich Bucs player has the worst contract heading into the season? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the better front offices in the NFL, but even they are not perfect. The team has given out many extensions in recent years, one of which has drawn the ire of an analyst. Bleacher Report's Brab Gagnon ranked the 10 worst contracts in the NFL, regardless of position. For the Bucs, Chris Godwin's contract ranked second-worst in the league. Gagnon writes, "The 30-year-old has failed to play in double-digit games in back-to-back seasons and his productivity when healthy plummeted in 2025. Godwin hasn't put up 1,200 yards or scored eight touchdowns since 2019, which is also the last time he was a Pro Bowler or All-Pro."He also adds that the team would have to eat $16.2 milion in dead cap to move on from him in 2027. This all comes while he is set to make $33.7 million as a cap hit, which is the most of any wide receiver in the league today. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArsenal are admirers of Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence LacroixArsenal are admirers of Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence LacroixArsenal are one of the admirers of Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix, according to the Daily Mail. The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants to make the Arsenal squad stronger ahead of next season’s Premier League title defence and could bring a central defender to the Emirates Stadium club. The North London club are already thinking longer term about who will succeed Gabriel Magalhaes, with RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba on on their radar. The 28-year-old Arsenal star has had knee issues in recent seasons and Lacroix has emerged as a potential transfer target. The 26-year-old France international is currently at the World Cup, and Chelsea and Real Madrid are also keen after his impressive performances in the Premier League and in Europe. Lacroix won the Europa Conference League with Palace last season and the Gunners could look to lure him away from the Eagles this summer. The Frenchman joined the Selhurst Park club from Wolfsburg for £17.6 million in 2024, signing a five-year deal. While Palace are in a strong negotiating position, Lacroix is reluctant to commit to new terms and wants to assess what offers arise this summer.Arsenal could come calling in the coming weeks, and more suitors could emerge if he gets to play and impress at the World Cup.Lacroix and William Saliba could become the Gunners’ centre-back partnership should a deal get done. However, another player in the position does not appear to be top priority for the Gunners right now.Cristhian Mosquera, Ben White, Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori are all options available to Arteta at centre-back, and strengthening in other areas should be prioritised.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRoman Anthony Likely Why Red Sox Didn't Bolster Offense, Per InsiderRoman Anthony Likely Why Red Sox Didn't Bolster Offense, Per Insider originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox did not improve their offense much this offseason, aside from trading for Willson Contreras, and it has shown this season. Contreras has been excellent for Boston this season, but has been one of the team's only consistent offensive players. The Red Sox's offense is dealing with multiple injuries to key players like Trevor Story and Roman Anthony, but it still struggled even when those players were healthy. Boston pulled off a blockbuster trade last season, sending away Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants right before calling Anthony up to the big leagues. The former No. 1 prospect impressed for the Red Sox last season, slashing .292/.396/.463 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs across 71 games in his rookie campaign, quickly becoming the face of the Red Sox's franchise.Even before going down with an injury that's held him out of action for over a month, Anthony has struggled this season. The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey believes it's likely that the Red Sox failed to bolster their offense after the Devers trade with the hope that Anthony would have already emerged as a star."The Red Sox likely predicted Anthony would have emerged by now as a key bat for the top of the order, a reason why they only added Contreras this winter," McCaffrey wrote on Monday. "Instead, Anthony has missed significant time due to two injuries since debuting one week before the Devers deal last year."He missed the final 22 games of the regular season, as well as the three wild-card games with an oblique strain and has been out since May 7 with a sprained right ring finger that’s made swinging a bat without pain difficult. In 101 career games, Anthony is batting .273 with an .804 OPS, but in 30 games before this season’s injury, he hit .229 with a .675 OPS. Not only did the Red Sox trade away Devers and not replace his bat in a meaningful way, but they also didn’t properly assess or unlock the potential of two players they acquired."Boston did make attempts to sign top offensive players this offseason, targeting Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette and Pete Alonso, but was unable to sign any of them. Even if Anthony returns to form when he makes his return to the field, the Red Sox will still need to do more to improve the offense. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMUFC CEO Dana White slams comments by fighter who called Michelle Obama a ‘man’UFC President and CEO Dana White denounced comments made by one of his fighters calling former First Lady Michelle Obama a man during the UFC Freedom 250 at the White House. Heavyweight champ Josh Hokit, 28, made the hateful, unprompted remarks during a post-match interview with podcaster Joe Rogan, yelling out, “Michelle Obama is a man, am I right, America?” after winning his fight on the South Lawn. While nothing was said to push back against Hokit in the moment, he has since faced backlash from both Republicans and Democrats— as well as from the UFC boss, who said he hates “that kind of nonsense.” “I understand that the Obama’s are public figures but I’m completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families,” White told TIME in a text message. “Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense.”The White House has not publicly commented on Hokit’s remarks, and it was not immediately clear if the fighter faced any consequences over his words. The Independent has contacted the White House and UFC for comment. UFC CEO Dana White (right) spoke out against comments made by fighter Josh Hokit after winning the heavyweight title during Sunday’s Freedom 250 event at the White House (Getty)Hokit’s remarks drew widespread backlash, even from supporters of President Donald Trump, who have gone out of their way to defend the lavish UFC bash, which cost approximately $60 million to put on at the White House this weekend. In a social media post, the Democratic National Committee shared a portrait of Obama and said she “lives in their heads rent-free.” “The fighter yelling ‘Michelle Obama is a man,’ at an official White House event to honor America is utterly unacceptable and the administration should [denounce] it in no uncertain terms,” Fox News columnist David Marcus wrote on X.“I’ve defended the administration’s America 250 plans, because I trusted they really would be non partisan, really would bring us together. But I was wrong. And it sucks,” he wrote in a follow-up post.Liberal political commentator Harry Sisson wrote: “One of Trump’s UFC fighters just screamed ‘Michelle Obama is a man’ at the White House. Just incredibly gross. F*** Trump and this corrupt event.”Josh Hokit, 28, made the disparaging comment about former First Lady Michelle Obama after winning his cage fight Sunday (AP)Congressman Christian Menefee, a Democrat from Texas, called out the racist remarks. “They really let a UFC fighter call our only Black First Lady a man on the White House lawn at an official White House event … while thousands cheered and the biggest podcaster in the world smiled. There is no economic policy fix for this. Many of these people are just racist,” he said. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a supporter of Trump, called on the president to denounce Hokit’s comment about Obama. “These are UFC guys, they’re crazy. They’re idiots,” Portnoy said. “But when you have that on the White House lawn on an event you put down... In don’t care what you think about the Obamas or anything. That has be an immediate denounce.” “Josh Hokit won the biggest fight of his career at the White House and decides to finish his interview by calling Michelle Obama a Man. What a disgrace,” former NFL quarterback and broadcaster Robert Griffin III wrote on social media. “It takes a really small man to use his biggest moment to attack a woman by calling her a man. Especially with the history behind calling black women men,” he added. The View co-host Sunny Hostin also addressed the athelete’s the racist remarks during Monday’s show, telling viewers: “For a long time — and the roots are in slavery — Black women have been slurred and made to feel that they were unattractive, made to feel like they were masculine and that they didn’t have the femininity that a white woman would have.” “And so there’s this intersectionality between racism and sexism that was on full display at the White House,” she continued. “The crowd laughed at the statement, and the President of the United States smirked, and then never addressed what was said. That is beneath the dignity of the American people.” This is a breaking news story...0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMHow Should We Grade the Bills’ Last Five First Round Picks? The past few drafts have been chaos for the Buffalo Bills. Between trades back into the second round, and even a few trades up, one thing has remained a constant for the team in their front office: newly promoted President of Football Operations, Brandon Beane.Beane’s promotion this offseason was met with some backlash. Fans blamed him for the roster construction, while others felt it was time to move on from Sean McDermott. As the offseason continues and news comes slower, now feels like the perfect time to reflect on the Bills’ last five first-round picks. Drafting is only a portion of the job, but it can help determine whether Beane deserved his promotion.2025 Draft: Maxwell Hairston — B+With the 30th pick in the 2025 draft, the Bills selected cornerback Maxwell Hairston. While Hairston was limited to 11 games and had some growing pains, he showed flashes of being great.Whether it was marking Xavier Worthy in man coverage or Hairston’s two interceptions in three starts, there’s a lot to be excited about. The reason this grade isn’t higher yet is that the sample size is too small. Also, the argument can be made that the Bills passed on better players to select Hairston, but that isn’t a fair assessment. The team needed a cornerback and took the best one available. As things currently stand, Hairston is in line to start alongside Christian Benford this season. He’ll see a big rise from his 35.44 snap percentage last season, which will make it easier to assess this next year. The conclusion to draw from this pick at the moment is that it was good. Beane made the right decision drafting Hairston, and that will become evident in the 2026 season.Picked by Bills rookie Maxwell Hairston!BUFvsMIA on CBS/Paramount+https://t.co/HkKw7uXVntpic.twitter.com/V8njI8yJpE— NFL (@NFL) November 9, 20252023 Draft: Dalton Kincaid — B+In the 2023 draft, the Bills traded up in front of the Cowboys to select tight end Dalton Kincaid. Kincaid has served as one of Josh Allen’s go-to targets ever since the team traded away Stefon Diggs. The talent with Kincaid is undeniable. When he’s on the field, the Bills are objectively a better football team. The problem is that he’s had numerous knee injuries over his first three seasons. Out of 51 regular-season games, he’s only played in 41.During the 2025 season, Kincaid played in 12 games. He put up 39 catches for 571 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. He helped the team to a 10-2 record in these games and earned a Pro Bowl selection to go with it.Giving the Kincaid pick a B+, just like Maxwell Hairston — will raise some eyebrows, but both players were great value. If they can stay healthy this upcoming season, they’ll continue to prove themselves as cornerstone pieces for the Bills. This is another pick that people need to give Beane his flowers for.2022 Draft: Kaiir Elam — D+During the 2022 draft, the Bills traded up to select cornerback Kaiir Elam. He brought a unique style of play at the position that the roster had been lacking at that point. Elam was 6-foot-1 and excelled in man coverage during his time at Florida. At the time, it seemed like a great pick for the Bills. However, he would struggle to see the field in three years with the team. The project that was Elam ultimately ran its course when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys before the 2025 season. While both sides likely wished for a better outcome, Elam did have some fun moments in Buffalo. As a rookie, he was thrown into the Bills’ Wild Card game against the Dolphins, where he had an interception. The next season, he came back and had another interception against the Steelers in the Wild Card round that shifted momentum back in the Bills’ favor. There were some good moments, and some fans never lost hope. This offseason, Elam signed with the Chiefs, where he’ll compete for a roster spot. This will be his fourth team in the last two seasons.Kaiir Elam picks it off in the end zone for Buffalo : #PITvsBUF on CBS: Stream on #NFLPlushttps://t.co/rnjmj1Pg4jpic.twitter.com/TKW0kThk6g— NFL (@NFL) January 15, 20242021 Draft: Gregory Rousseau — A-The Bills selected Gregory Rousseau with the 30th pick of the 2021 draft. While he might not have the greatest numbers or accolades to go with it, it was still the right pick.In five seasons, Rousseau has racked up 32 sacks and asserted himself as one of the best run defenders in the entire league. Standing at 6-foot-6 with an astounding 83-inch wingspan, he’s able to make some tackles that are unexplainable. With the hiring of new defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, Rousseau is going to move to an outside linebacker position. He’s still going to rush the passer, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see an increase in his sack numbers this year. The reason this is the highest grade so far is that the value at which he was selected was incredible. The chances of finding a franchise cornerstone at the edge rusher position at pick 30 are extremely unlikely. Edge rusher is a premium position, which is why the best prospects at the position often go much earlier.Just like the Hairston and Kincaid picks, Beane deserves his flower for this one too.2019 Draft: Ed Oliver — A-With the 9th overall pick in the 2019 draft, the Bills selected defensive tackle Ed Oliver. Going into the college football season that year, Oliver was seen as a candidate to go first overall. So, being able to snag him at nine was great value for the Bills.Much like Kincaid, Oliver has the same issues. When he’s on the field, the Bills are objectively a better football team. The only problem is that Oliver has struggled to stay on the field in recent years. In seven years with the Bills, Oliver has missed 22 regular-season games. When he hasn’t missed games, he’s struggled at times because of playing through injuries. What’s still intriguing about Oliver is that he gets to play in a 3-4 defense this year, which plays to his strengths. It wouldn’t be surprising if he returned to his 2023 form, when he put up 9.5 sacks. With all the time he’s missed, he still has 30 sacks in seven seasons. Those are great numbers for a defensive tackle.Again, this was another great first-round pick by Beane. Ed Oliver. Grown man.BALvsBUF on NBCStream on @NFLPlus + Peacock pic.twitter.com/qM01vMV7uh— NFL (@NFL) September 8, 2025The VerdictBrandon Beane gets a bad rap for his struggles in the first round, but after further research, he’s been good. If the 2018 draft was included, things start to look even better. Between Allen and Tremaine Edmunds, 2018 was another great year.Out of the Bills’ last five first-round picks, two have received second contracts and two more have become key pieces to the team’s success. It’s not easy to select at the end of the first round every year, but that’s what comes with sustained success. At the time of Beane’s promotion, it might not have seemed like the right move, but as more time passes, it will be.Beane will certainly be on the hot seat if the team continues to fall short, but in the meantime, his promotion wasn’t the worst move ever. The post How Should We Grade the Bills’ Last Five First Round Picks? appeared first on The Lead.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSenegal looks to repeat 2002 World Cup upset of France that set off dancing in Dakar's streetsEAST RUTHERFORD, N,J. (AP) — France's last World Cup match against Senegal set off dancing in the streets of Dakar.Les Bleus were the defending champions when the Lions of Teranga's 1-0 upset win in the 2002 opener caused Senegal President Abdoulaye Wade to declare a national holiday.“Not for revenge do we want to win, but we want to go as far as possible in this competition,” France midfielder N’Golo Kanté said through a translator on Monday, a day before Les Bleus and Senegal meet in Group I.Senegal was a French colony before 1960.“We know that a game between France and Senegal is a very symbolic game,” Senegal coach Pape Thiaw said through a translator.Six of France's players hadn't been born at the time of the 2002 game, when Papa Bouba Diop scored in the 30th minute while lying on his side. The Lions of Teranga reached the quarterfinals that year before losing to Turkey, while France went winless and failed to advance from its group.“There’s no revenge in football,” France coach Didier Deschamps said through a translator. “This will be another page to write now and what happened in 2002, well, all the best for Senegal. I mean it was good for them at the time but we’ll make sure that the results be a positive for us this time.”France is a two-time champion seeking to reach its third straight World Cup final. Les Blues won in 1998 and 2018, then lost the 2022 final to Argentina on penalty kicks. The French team is ranked third in the world, while Senegal is 16th.“Our main opponent is ourselves,” Kanté said. “We cannot see ourselves too beautiful or too strong."Thiaw was picked for Senegal's 2002 roster but played in only one game, the round of 16 win over Sweden. He will pass along lessons learned from the late Bruno Metsu, Senegal’s 2002 coach.“Of course, there is going to be a Bruno effect when I’m going to be talking to my players tomorrow,” Thiaw said. “I will also add my personal touch and also add what Bruno taught me along the way.”Visa denial may not decrease Senegal supporters in stadiumFans in Senegal were denied visas by the U.S. government but Thiaw expects supporters to be inside MetLife Stadium.“Of course we’d like to have our fans. We know what they can do for us. They push us,” Thiaw said. “But we have a major Senegalese community and we know that the Senegalese is very patriotic and they like their national team. You will see this tomorrow. You won’t even believe it that no Senegalese came over from Senegal.”Morocco, not Senegal, is African champion — for nowSenegal won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, then beat Morocco 1-0 in this year’s final only to have the Atlas Lions awarded a 3-0 forfeit win by African soccer’s governing body because the Lions of Teranga left the field for 15 minutes during stoppage time in protest of a penalty kick awarded to their opponent.Senegal has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.“For me we are champions of Africa, full stop,” Thiaw said.Didier Deschamps nears World Cup coaching recordDeschamps said in January he will retire this summer after 14 years in the same job. Tuesday's match will be his 20th as a World Cup coach, five shy of Helmut Schön's record with West Germany. He is one of only three men to win World Cup titles as a player and coach, joining Mário Zagallo and Franz Beckenbauer.Heat not expected to be extreme in New JerseyTuesday's game starts at 3 p.m. EDT and sunny weather is forecast but the temperature at kickoff is likely to be about 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius), down significantly from last weekend.France practiced at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, after arriving in the U.S. last Wednesday.“We had to train in the heat, under the sun," Kanté said, "and we saw also how tired we could be as a result.”___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/fifa-world-cup0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘I’m sick of it’: Tom Izzo ‘disgusted’ by things at Michigan StateTom Izzo, MSU's basketball coach, gets the crowd of over 9,000 people going at the Izzo Run/Walk/Roll, 5K event Sunday, April 26, 2026.Michigan State Spartans men’s basketball head coach Tom Izzo has a legitimate case as the most iconic active coach in the sport, but that doesn’t mean he’s happy with the state of affairs at his school.Izzo has made it clear that he is ‘disgusted’ with the turmoil surrounding his school, following the departures of both Michigan State’s athletic director and president, with president Kevin Guskiewicz departing for Clemson and athletic director J Batt leaving Monday to take the same role at Kentucky.“There’s other dominos that get affected when things go wrong like that,” Izzo said, according to ESPN. “I’m very upset about it, and I’m sick of it.”Guskiewicz cited an “unsustainable situation” created by differing perspectives among board members as factoring into his departure from MSU in a May 27 letter to the Spartan community.“At times, too much energy has been spent revisiting past conflicts and internal disagreements rather than focusing collectively on the opportunities and aspirations ahead of us,” Guskiewicz’s letter read.“While I firmly believe we are all better when there is a diversity of viewpoints informing decisions, our ability to make meaningful progress is hampered when disagreements move from offering alternative perspectives into publicly undermining decisions and putting personal interests above the best interests of the university and our faculty, staff and students.”“What happened with our president is ridiculous,” Izzo said of the situation. “He said it, we know the reasons, and I’m ashamed and disgusted, hurt.“Spartan Nation better stand up, all 600,000 of them.”The post ‘I’m sick of it’: Tom Izzo ‘disgusted’ by things at Michigan State appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTop-level horse racing action set to get underway at Royal AscotRace-goers attend Royal Ascot, in Ascot, Britain, on June 18, 2025. File Photo by Neil Hall/EPAJune 15 (UPI) -- The carriages scarcely will have stopped rolling before the top-level action gets going Tuesday at Royal Ascot. The very first race on the first of five festive days is the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes, a 1-mile test down the straight course that promises to be among the best of whole meeting.Godolphin runners Notable Speech, winner of the Lockinge Stakes, and Opera Ballo, victorious in the bet365 Mile at Sandown, are favorites in a field of 10. More Thunder, Zeus Olympios and Docklands add to the contentious mix.Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Godolphin operation really could use a good start to the Royal meeting as results for the first half of the year have been somewhat beneath the usual lofty expectations. And Rebel's Romance averted a third straight winless Royal Ascot for the Godolphin team by winning the Hardwicke Stakes on the last day of 2025.However, it's Ireland's Coolmore "lads" who seem to have the strongest hand across the meeting. There are 28 races through the first four days. Coolmore horses trained by Aidan O'Brien are early favorites in seven, and in the top three in four more. In several races, they have first and second favorites.Just three races after the Queen Anne, things get even more challenging in the day's eagerly anticipated feature, the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 mile on the Round Course. In that, Bow Echo puts his 4-for-4 mark on the line as one of the hottest commodities of the week. The Night of Thunder colt, trained by George Boughey, carries the yellow and black dotted silks of the late Sheik Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum. His main rival is Coolmore's Gstaad and Bow Echo slapped a 2 3/4-length beating on him when they last met in the Group 1 1,000 Guineas.Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby will count on Talk of New York, who will have to step it up again after impressive back-to-back wins well down in class at Newmarket and Sandown.Three-year-olds and up charge 5 furlongs down the straight in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes with the first serious whiff of global competition in the air. Early favorite for the frantic dash is Australian-trained Overpass. The 7-year-old Vancouver gelding has been generally competitive back home, but his last win came in November 2024 at Ascot -- the Australian Ascot. The favorite's role may be bolstered as much by history as performance as Aussie runners have won the race six times since the turn of the century. The Aga Khan Studs brings Rayevka from France after a win at Longchamp on May 10 ended a long dry spell, and the 4-year-old Blue Point filly is a logical fallback position after Overpass -- also with an historical spin.Blue Point, who ran for Godolphin, won the King Charles, then called the King's Stand, in 2018 and the following year scored the rare double of that race and the 1,200-meters Group 1 Diamond Jubilee, now the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee, just four days later. The Group 2 Coventry Stakes for 2-year-olds is contested at 6 furlongs with a full field of 28 expected to go. Go figure, but O'Brien has three for Coolmore, including two of the early favorites in Confucius and Great Barrier Reef. The third is Sergei Diaghilev. Sons Joseph Patrick and Donnacha have two and one entered, respectively.Rounding out Day 1 are the Ascot Stakes, a heritage handicap at 2 1/2 miles; the 1 1/4-mile Wolferton Stakes with 30 entries drawn and a maximum of 16 to start; and the Copper Horse Stakes at 1 3/4 miles and 57 entries, also for the maximum 16 spots.Day 2 has only one Group 1 event but it's a doozy, with the Aga Khan Studs' 2025 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner, Daryz, looking to extend his 2026 win streak to three. The 4-year-old son of Sea the Stars has been defeated only twice in nine starts and beaten badly only once. The big loss was a sixth-place finish in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York last August in his only start outside France.Godolphin's Ombudsman won that event and is the main rival in Wednesday's race with eight wins and three seconds from 11 career starts.Daryz's other loss, coincidentally, was a second in last year's Group 3 Prix du Prince d'Orange -- an Arc prep. The winner of that race, Japan's Croix du Nord, flopped in the Arc, but finished second in Sunday's Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin Racecourse.Sheik Ahmed al Maktoum's Almaqam can't be dismissed after winning the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on May 24, with Bay City Roller and Minnie Hauk well in his wake. Minnie Hauk is back for another go for O'Brien's Coolmore squad. The Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes for 2-year-old fillies seems as wide-open an affair as you'd want. American trainer Wesley Ward, who missed last year's Royal Meeting, makes up for lost time with five entries although not all might get into the massively oversubscribed 5-furlongs sprint.O'Brien has the Group 2 Queen's Vase surrounded with five entries for the 18 stalls, including the early favorite, Endorsement. The 3-year-old Wootton Bassett filly exits a 7-length victory in the King George V Cup at Leopardstown.Twenty fillies and mares are set to tackle 1 mile on the Round Course in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes. Juddmonte's Blue Bolt, another by Blue Point, holds the early favorite role after a season-opening win at Goodwood.Thursday is Gold Cup day. The 2 1/2-mile marathon has become an international fixture, with Coolmore's Scandinavia, a Kentucky-bred Justify colt, the early favorite off five straight wins, including last year's Group 1 St Leger.O'Brien, Scandinavia's trainer, won the race in 2022 and 2024 with the remarkable Kyprios. Rahiebb and Trawlerman, successful marathoners both, also are in the mix.The supporting Group races on the Thursday card are the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes for 3-year-old fillies and the Hampton Court for 3-year-olds. The Juddmonte operation has the two favorites in the Ribblesdale and Coolmore has the top two in the Hampton Court.Things heat up again Friday with the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at 6 furlongs, the Group 1 Coronation Stakes with 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile, the Group 2 King Edward VII at 1 1/2 miles and the Group 3 Albany Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Two of Coolmore's star fillies, Precise and True Love, are entered in the Coronation Stakes, and they are the favorites among 10 after finishing 1-2 in the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh last time out.Benvenuto Cellini, deemed a non-runner after an unfair start as the favorite in the Betfred Derby on June 6, is back in the King Edward as part of a four-strong Coolmore team. The favorite and one to watch is Water to Wine, a George Strawbridge homebred 3-year-old by Kingman who puts a 2-for-2 record on the line in a bold move.Massive fields are on tap for many of the other Friday heats. Trainer Ward has one of America's best hopes, Outfielder, in the Commonwealth Cup at early odds of 20-1.The king and queen own Warrant Holder, one of the favorites in Friday's Duke of Edinburgh Stakes with William Buick set to ride for trainers John and Thady Gosden.Saturday is getaway day, but also could be international day as the feature, the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, has Joliestar and Overpass from Australia and Satono Reve and Lugal from Japan in a global all-star 6-furlong dash. Sajar invades from France for Prince Faisal to add another language to the cheers.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 24 Visualizações 0 Anterior
