Moroccan fans rallying at North Shore watch party for huge World Cup match at Boston Stadium
Morocco is set to take the field in Foxborough for the first time, and excitement is already building across Massachusetts — especially in the North Shore city of Revere, where a large Moroccan community is preparing to cheer on its team together.A watch party is planned on Shirley Avenue starting at 3 p.m. for fans who don’t have tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Scotland but still want to be part of the atmosphere. In the lead-up to the game, crowds have already gathered around Boston, including a group that met outside City Hall Plaza earlier this week to celebrate and show support for Morocco. Many told Boston 25 they planned to either head to the official Boston Fan Fest or join community watch parties, such as the one in Revere. At a local Moroccan bakery, one Revere man who moved to Massachusetts in 2019 said the World Cup has sparked pride and brought people together.“Morocco is doing well this World Cup. The first game was great for us, even if it was like a tie,” Khlid said. “There is a lot of community, like the Moroccan community, in Revere. And a lot of Moroccans are coming from Morocco too.”Watch party detailsLocation: Shirley Avenue, RevereStart time: 3 p.m.End time: 9 p.m.With kickoff in Foxborough set for later in the evening, organizers say the watch party will give fans a chance to celebrate their team — and their culture — in a community setting.Download the FREE Boston 25 News app for breaking news alerts.Follow Boston 25 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch Boston 25 News NOW

Jim Furyk embraces new challenge in the TV booth
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – During another injury-riddled year that kept him sidelined from playing PGA Tour Champions last season, Jim Furyk was asked by the PGA Tour if he’d be willing to do TV. “They knew I wasn’t playing the Ally Championship, but I’m an Ally brand manager. They asked would I be willing to do TV for a day with Azinger? I said, ‘Yeah, I'd love to do that,’ ” he recalled.Furyk won both a PGA Tour and Champions Tour event at Warwick Hills in Michigan, played the course a hundred times and knew it like the back of his hand. “That was fun,” Furyk said.Last fall, it got him thinking he might enjoy a regular role doing TV. The Golf Channel offered him a tryout at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship serving as lead analyst of the early rounds. He liked it. That led to a studio role at the Masters. Brad Faxon, a veteran pro turned TV announcer, told him he’d love the live studio work. Furyk wondered why. Faxon said that a lead analyst has to get in and get out, sometimes in just 5 seconds. On Live From, Faxon said, you can talk for as long as you want and they love it. They’ll tell you to keep going and fill some more time. “I told him, that’s the part that scares me. And Fax asked, why?” Furyk recounted to Golfweek recently. “I told him, ‘You can’t say something too stupid in 5 to 6 seconds, but if you give me a minute and a half and who knows what can happen!’”Golf Channel signed Furyk to do this week’s U.S. Open, the Travelers Championship, where he once shot 58, the British Open next month at Royal Birkdale and the Tour Championship, which he won en route to claiming the FedEx Cup. Furyk sees upside in staying involved and remaining tied back to the players of today on Tour. "I think it will really help for the Ryder Cup duties,” said Furyk, the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup captain. “I don’t want to travel 30 weeks a year but having a number of events where the best players are going to be is very interesting to me.”There was no dress rehearsal or training session. Furyk has been thrown straight into the deep end and he’s more than just staying afloat. Asked how he prepared for his TV debut, he said, “I’m preparing the only way I know how – I’m preparing for the golf course like I would as a player.”Furyk’s exposure to how the sausage is made in the TV space has made him more appreciative of the time, effort and manpower involved in bringing the Open to TV. And it didn't take long to realize that making TV is hard work.“It hit me in the first five minutes,” Furyk said. “I had my yardage book with me and I threw it in my backpack behind me.”Furyk is proving to be a quick learner. The hardest part? The first 10 minutes at Bay Hill for the API, Furyk realized things were moving fast. “I had to speed up my internal motor to keep up with everything. Once I got the flow and the rhythm, I was fine,” he said. One question remains: Will he be able to criticize members of his Ryder Cup team – both those players on past teams or that could make the team next year?“If the guy hits a bad shot, he hits a bad shot. But when you say criticize, I got upset or my peers would get upset is when the analyst questioned your motivation or work ethic or something like if they’re tough down the stretch. Those are the things that rub players wrong.”He continued with a story about some advice that NBC executive producer Tommy Roy offered to him. “He said something interesting that I never had heard someone say before,” Furyk recalled. “He goes, I don’t particularly want you to second-guess; I want you to first guess.” Furyk asked him for further explanation of what he meant. In short, Roy said that after a shot he can go back and say that he didn’t like the strategy there because of XYZ, but hindsight is 20/20."Tell me on the front end. That was Tommy’s point," Furyk said. "Tell me, you know what? I don’t really like driver off this hole before he hits it. Now, if he stripes it down the middle 340 and hits a flip wedge in and makes birdie, well, you can say, I guess that’s why he’s Scottie Scheffler, and he’s winning the tournament and I’m sitting here in the booth, but he goes that I don’t mind. I don’t mind when you’re wrong, but do it on the front end, not the back end.” With each rep, Furyk is learning, adjusting the way he preps and getting more comfortable. He's been a fast learner and don't be surprised if his role keeps expanding. This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Jim Furyk finds new rhythm in the TV booth

Rangers’ midfielder Nicolas Raskin hoping to use 2026 World Cup as a springboard for a summer transferAs reported by HLN, Rangers’ midfielder Nicolas Raskin and his entourage are hoping that his performances at the 2026 World Cup will prove to be a springboard to a summer transfer. Raskin came on against Egypt, replacing Amadou Onana, and played a key role in Belgium’s equaliser. He now has hopes of starting the Red Devils next game against Iran on Sunday. Raskin has been with Rangers since 2023, having joined from Standard Liege midway through the 2022/2023 season. After coming through at Gent, Raskin joined Standard Liege in 2019. He went on to play 95 games for the club, scoring five goals. At Rangers, Raskin has been a key player, forcing his way into the national team set up thanks to 13 goals in 145 games and a number of strong performances. Raskin has a contract with Rangers until 2028, but its becoming clear that he wants to leave the Glasgow based side this summer. Clubs across Europe are said to be interested in signing him from Rangers over the next few months, with Atalanta one of the few that has been actually named. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson

Longisa's legacy: She leaves WSU a national champion
Jun. 19—There are few better role models in track and field than Kenya's Faith Kipyegon. The 32-year-old women's 1,500-meter and mile world record holder owns three Olympic gold medals and five World Championship golds. So when Washington State sophomore Rosemary Longisa, who on Saturday won the women's 1,500 national championship at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, heard that Kipyegon would be in Eugene, Ore., last summer — she had to be there.Twice before, Longisa said, she had come close to meeting her fellow Kenyan. This time, Longisa, with the help of her friend and former teammate Maya McCabe, made a sign that read "I came from Kenya to meet Faith and Athing (Mu-Nikolayev), from Rozzy Longisa, a future 800m/1500m star and big fan of you."The sign got the attention of one of Kipyegon's associates on that July, 2025 day, Longisa said."She was glad to meet me. I was like, 'This is unreal,'" said Longisa in an April interview with the Tribune. "It was the best moment of my life."Soon after meeting Longisa, Kipyegon broke her own world record in the 1,500 by 0.36 seconds — a feat Longisa witnessed.A few days later, Kipyegon sent a direct message to Longisa on TikTok.Longisa didn't believe it at first, but Kipyegon told her that she was looking for Longisa after her race. The world record holder wanted to give Longisa her record-setting uniform.Kipyegon sent the uniform to Longisa via one of her teammates, who happened to be in Kenya at the time.Longisa was blown away by Kipyegon's kindness."I don't take that for granted. It's not easy to get in contact with these great people," Longisa said. "And I think I just felt like maybe I am also a star. Like meeting a star — it's so special to me. I just feel like I'm also a star."A star, she certainly is.With Kipyegon's kit in her possession, Longisa blazed to an outstanding 2025-26 cross country and track campaign, capped by her first national title. The next week, she transferred to Iowa State, following her coach Laura Harmon, WSU's women's cross country coach and track and field assistant, who accepted similar roles in Ames. She departs Pullman having already left an outstanding running legacy as one of college's all-time fastest middle- and long-distance runners.A national titleShe took the lead and never gave it back.Longisa gained an early foothold in the 1,500-meter final and sparked her kick around the 300-meter mark on Saturday, the hottest day of the multi-day NCAA Nationals.Longisa's lead was so staggering that she survived a late surge from South Carolina runner Salma Elbadra, who picked off every runner in front of her except for Longisa.Clad in the crimson and gray, Longisa was a national champion at one of track and field's most-storied venues. The Eldoret, Kenya, native's victory clocked in at 4 minutes and 12.10 seconds — nearly a full second in front of the runner-up — making her WSU's first individual national champion since Jeshua Anderson's men's 400 hurdles crown in 2011 and the first Wazzu woman to win a national title since high jumper Whitney Evans in 2003.The crowning moment of Longisa's career so far capped not only a sensational sophomore season, but it also marked the close of her Cougar career.A sensational sophomore seasonLongisa has come a long way from the freshman who had reservations about her own sport."I didn't have a positive attitude toward my running," Longisa said. Her coaches had to push her, Longisa said, more than she was willing to push herself. The result was a slew of negative feelings about a sport, cross country, that may not have been her primary focus. After conversations with Harmon, she came to a realization."'I need to do this out of love and I need to enjoy running instead of being pushed to do it,'" Longisa said she told herself. The shift was sensational. The WSU women's cross country team won its first conference championship in program history. Then, Longisa broke onto the national scene with a runner-up finish at indoor nationals March 14 in Fayetteville, Ark.Longisa's 4:24.59-mile at January's UW Invitational in Seattle was the third-best mark in NCAA history at the time. After a raucous season, it is now the sixth-best mark all-time.Longisa broke a 15-year school record in the 800 at the Husky Classic in February, finishing with a time of 1:59.71.Then came her eye-popping 4:02.55 time in the 1,500 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. — the second fastest in NCAA history and the 20th-best time in Kenyan history."We love our country so much," Longisa said of Kenyans. "Sometimes we just run with the pride of representing your country."Harmon said that the idea that Longisa was not just running for herself, but also for her teammates and her country, helped her turn a mental corner this year."I think being a high-level runner is kind of mundane sometimes," Harmon said. "It's just like day in, day out, putting in the work and then the results sometimes don't come immediately."Harmon said that last year, she was advocating for event organizers to give a freshman Longisa a chance to compete."This year, obviously, that's not an issue now," Harmon said. Now, Harmon said, "the tables have turned." Everyone wants Longisa to race at their event.Longisa's legacyLongisa's 2026 track and field season is certainly one of the finest individual campaigns in WSU history, among any sport. And it came after the school cut its field events and scaled back sprints for a "distance-focused approach."WSU did not provide financial strain as a reason for the cut, instead stating that it gave the programs "the best opportunity to remain competitive at the conference and national levels."The byproduct of not competing in the majority of events, however, is that it makes team titles impossible for WSU.Longisa seemed to be the blueprint for how WSU could still obtain national titles on the track. The future of the program, however, will not include the Cougars' reigning national champion or the coach who molded her."I didn't realize the things that I can do, but it's all just from changing and just taking this sport with love and a positive attitude," Longisa said. "I wasn't expecting that to happen so soon, like, this fast, and also I think I deserve it because I've been working so hard."While Longisa's days of traversing the golden hills of the Palouse are done, her story is far from finished. There's a girl running in Kenya today. Maybe, someday, Longisa's kit will mean something to her, too.Taylor can be reached at 208-848-2260, staylor@lmtribune.com, or on X or Instagram @Sam_C_Taylor.

World Cup update: emphatic 4-1 victory for Kobel and Switzerland
World Cup update: emphatic 4-1 victory for Kobel and SwitzerlandFor a long time, the team struggled in attack and found the Bosnian defence a tough nut to crack. It was substitute Johan Manzambi who broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, before Granit Xhaka and further goals sealed what was ultimately a comfortable victory.BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel played the full 90 minutes in the Swiss goal as usual and looked set to keep a clean sheet for a long time. It was not until the third minute of stoppage time that the keeper was finally beaten after parrying corner as Mahmic, who had come on as a substitute shortly before, scored with a first-time volley to make it 1-4. It was a powerful strike that Kobel had no chance of saving.

HSE's Sloane May named Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year
Hamilton Southeastern senior Sloane May was named the Gatorade Indiana girls soccer player of the year on Thursday.May led the Royals to a 22-0-1 record last season — a run that culminated with a 1-0 win over Carmel in the Class 3A state championship game. It was the first state title for the HSE girls soccer team. The 5-foot-8 midfielder and forward scored 15 goals, which tied for the most on the team. She also set a new school record with a team-high 17 assists.More: HSE girls soccer star, national player of the year, flips commitment to IU from Big Ten rival“What impressed me the most about Sloane was how she set her teammates up for success,” Fishers coach Harold Spooner said in a press release. “She was more than capable of taking over games by scoring herself and she showed that throughout her high school career, but what made her an elite player was how she did all the little things to make her teammates better.“The way she could dictate the terms of a game through her distribution and (ball-holding) play set her apart from other high school players who put up impressive goal scoring stats like she did. Her impact was more than just the counting stats, it was the control she took over the game.”Last season, May also set a school record for the most consecutive goal-involvement games with 19. Along with her Gatorade distinction, May was the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year and the United Soccer Coaches 2025 National Player of the Year. She flipped her commitment from Michigan to Indiana in February.Marc Ray is a high school sports reporter at the IndyStar. Mary Earps ‘over the moon’ as she seals WSL return after PSG exit
Former England goalkeeper Mary Earps is set to make a significant return to English football, joining Women’s Super League side London City Lionesses following her departure from Paris St Germain. This follows the conclusion of her two-season spell in the French capital, having previously signed for PSG from Manchester United.London City Lionesses, owned by American billionaire Michele Kang, enjoyed a successful introduction to the WSL last year, impressively finishing sixth in the table during their debut season.Earps won the Euros with England in 2022 (Getty)Expressing her excitement for the new chapter, Earps shared her motivations: "I’m over the moon to join this club and I’m really looking forward to it. I feel the club aligns with what I stand for. Official | Charles Vanhoutte joins Feyenoord from OGC Nice
Official | Charles Vanhoutte joins Feyenoord from OGC NiceAfter just one season at OGC Nice, Charles Vanhoutte (27) has departed on a permanent transfer. The Belgian midfielder has joined Eredivisie side Feyenoord. Vanhoutte only joined Nice last summer, signing from Union Saint-Gilloise. He hoped that the move to the Allianz Riviera would bolster his hopes of making Rudi Garcia’s Belgium squad for the FIFA World Cup. The midfielder started well under Franck Haise, who pushed to bring him to the club, but his impact waned as Nice struggled. By the end of the season, under Claude Puel, he was no longer the key player that he was at the start of the campaign. There has been a change in the dugout at Nice, with the arrival of Olivier Pantaloni confirmed earlier this week, but he will not have Vanhoutte at his disposal. The midfielder’s exit has now been confirmed. Nice have not made a loss on the player, who arrived for €6m. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Manchester United could make profit in Mason Greenwood’s potential sale as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linked
Manchester United could make profit in Mason Greenwood’s potential sale as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur linkedManchester United will be monitoring the situation of Marseille attacker Mason Greenwood following a recent report from France. The Englishman could be sold this summer, and Man United will pocket 40% of any proceeds having inserted a sell-on clause in the deal which took him to Ligue 1. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing Greenwood, according to L’Equipe. The 24-year-old striker is the most valuable player at Marseille, and AS Roma are also keen on the former Red Devils star. A return to the Premier League seems unlikely right now given how he left Man United in 2024.Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 for attempted rape, assault and coercive control, last playing for the Old Trafford club that month. The charges against him were eventually dropped in February 2023, but he was sold to the Ligue 1 club in a £27 million deal in July 2024 having spent 2023-24 on loan in La Liga with Getafe. The 24-year-old has 48 goals and 17 assists in 81 games for the French club and will fancy his chances of impressing at any European club.Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi claimed that former Man United striker has what it takes to win the Ballon d’Or during their time together at Marseille, but a reunion does not appear to be on the cards despite the links.

Summer Sports Ratings Across NBA, NHL, & World Cup Set Record Highs
Knicks, Hurricanes, Messi - Ronald Cortes/Getty Images; Brian Babineau/NHLI via Getty Images; Masashi Hara/Getty ImagesThe summer months tend to be a quieter time for sports ratings, but not this year, as the NBA Finals, the NHL Stanley Cup Final, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup have attracted record ratings.According to The Hollywood Reporter, citing Nielsen figures, the NBA Finals, which saw the New York Knicks defeat the San Antonio Spurs to win their first title in 53 years, drew 20.6 million total viewers. This was the highest viewing figures for the NBA Finals since 1998, at the height of Michael Jordan‘s Chicago Bulls fame.In fact, the NBA Finals as a whole achieved mammoth ratings, with three of the five games bringing in over 20 million viewers. That hadn’t happened since 2016, and it led ABC to its biggest finals audience in the 24 years the network has had the broadcast rights. The Stanley Cup Final, won by the Carolina Hurricanes in six games, also saw a huge ratings increase this year, attracting 5.2 million viewers, the largest TV audience since 2019. As the outlet noted, hockey is having a pop culture moment with the recent TV adaptations of hockey-romance novels Heated Rivalry and Off Campus.Meanwhile, the World Cup, which kicked off on June 11, drew 14.2 million total viewers across its opening weekend, the most on record. The tournament has likely seen a boost due to being hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Related 15 Hottest Players of the 2026 World CupThe U.S. men’s team’s win over Paraguay is the most-watched match of the tournament in the U.S. so far. It’s also the most-watched World Cup broadcast ever for English-language audiences in the U.S., averaging more than 18 million viewers across Fox, FS1, and Tubi.Combining the three audience totals, just under 40 million viewers have tuned in for June’s major sporting events. In the years with a men’s or women’s World Cup since 2014, no NBA-NHL-World Cup combination has come anywhere close to that figure, per THR.The highest combined total in previous years was 27.75 million in 2014 (15.54 million for the NBA Finals, 4.7 million for the Stanley Cup, and 7.5 million for the early days of the World Cup).Read the latest entertainment news on TV Insider.

Pirates Trade Joey Bart To Braves For Pitcher To Clear Catching Logjam
Pirates Trade Joey Bart To Braves For Pitcher To Clear Catching Logjam originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton from the Atlanta Braves for catcher Joey Bart, the team announced Thursday night.Stratton was selected by the Pirates in the 16th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and began his pro career in Pittsburgh’s organization. However, in 2025, he was DFA’d and was traded to the Braves for Titus Dumitru and cash considerations. After being DFA’d by the Braves on June 17, Pittsburgh re-acquired the pitcher for Bart. Stratton is 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA in 60 career games in the MLB. The 29-year-old was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.Although Stratton was assigned to Triple-A, he adds some right-handed relief depth to the bullpen, which has struggled this season.Bart, meanwhile, is a former second overall pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2018. Pittsburgh acquired him in April 2024 for Austin Strickland.Yet, with the solid play of Henry Davis and the emergence of Endy Rodríguez, Bart was expendable, and Pittsburgh opted to trade him to Atlanta.Bart is hitting .259 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs this season in 58 at-bats.Pittsburgh will begin a three-game road series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday. The Pirates enter play with a record of 38-37 and are one game back of a Wild Card spot.More MLB: Pirates Mocked To Select High School Shortstop In MLB Draft

Omarion Hampton: Mike McDaniel will be "super good" for Chargers RBs
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert's bid to change his footwork to better fit into offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's scheme has been of note this offseason, but McDaniel's arrival effects more than just the quarterback. McDaniel's offenses in Miami created a lot of big plays out of the backfield for De'Von Achane and that's something Chargers running back Omarion Hampton picked up on while doing research into what expect from the coach. Now that he's spent an offseason learning what McDaniel has planned for him and the team's other backs, Hampton is enthusiastic about what the future holds. "All the running backs like it a lot," Hampton said, via the team's website. "It's just figuring it out, the details of it. It's going to be super good for us."McDaniel's arrival isn't the only reason to feel better about the Chargers offense in 2025 — the offensive line should be healthier and tight end David Njoku gives them another weapon in the passing game — but it is the biggest one and it's clear that Hampton thinks it is going to be of particular benefit to his growth in his second NFL season.

Iraola’s first signing could force major decision on forlorn forward
Iraola’s first signing could force major decision on forlorn forwardGakpo future under spotlight as Iraola reshapes Liverpool attackLiverpool’s summer rebuild continues to gather momentum, but one of the club’s longest-serving forwards could soon find himself at a crossroads.According to reporting from the Daily Mirror, Andoni Iraola’s first major move as Liverpool head coach is set to be the arrival of Victor Munoz from Osasuna. The Spain international winger is expected to join after Liverpool triggered his reported €40 million (£34.6 million) release clause, with the deal set to be completed on a long-term contract. While the focus has understandably centred on Munoz and what he can bring to Anfield, the transfer could have significant implications for Cody Gakpo and his long-term role within the squad.Photo: IMAGOMunoz arrival alters attacking landscapeIraola’s appointment has ushered in a new era at Liverpool, and the recruitment of Munoz appears to be an early indication of the profile of player he wants to build around. The 22-year-old has developed into one of Spain’s most exciting wide attackers, combining pace, direct running and tactical flexibility. Those qualities have made him a coveted asset across Europe, but Liverpool moved decisively to secure his signature ahead of rival interest. What makes the transfer particularly significant is Munoz’s ability to operate across multiple attacking positions. Although predominantly a winger, he is comfortable playing on either flank and can also feature in more central areas. That versatility inevitably creates fresh competition throughout Liverpool’s forward line and places additional scrutiny on the futures of several established players. For Gakpo, the timing is especially noteworthy.Challenging season raises questionsAfter several productive campaigns at Liverpool, Gakpo endured a frustrating 2025-26 season. The Dutch international scored seven Premier League goals and struggled to replicate the consistency that had previously made him one of Liverpool’s most dependable attacking options. Following Luis Diaz’s departure, Gakpo became the club’s primary left-sided forward, but the transition did not produce the expected results.Without Diaz’s explosive pace and ability to stretch defences, Liverpool often lacked balance on that side of the pitch. Gakpo’s technical quality remained evident, but his performances rarely reached the levels supporters had become accustomed to seeing. That downturn has inevitably created uncertainty despite the fact he only signed a new contract less than a year ago.Liverpool remain aware that Gakpo is entering what should be the peak years of his career. At 27, he still possesses significant value both on the pitch and in the transfer market.Ngumoha emergence adds another factorMunoz is not the only player affecting the equation.Rio Ngumoha’s remarkable rise over the past year has provided Liverpool with another exciting option in wide areas. The teenager’s breakthrough campaign showcased his enormous potential and earned widespread recognition across English football. His development has been carefully managed, but there is a growing belief that he could play an increasingly important role under Iraola.Interest from Bayern Munich demonstrated how highly Ngumoha is regarded across Europe, yet Liverpool remained firm in their determination to keep hold of one of the club’s brightest young talents. As a result, Iraola could soon have multiple players competing for minutes on the left side of his attack, creating a fascinating selection dilemma.Decision point approaching for Iraola and GakpoDespite speculation, it would be premature to suggest Liverpool are actively looking to move Gakpo on.The Dutchman remains an experienced international footballer with a proven track record at elite level. One difficult season does not erase the contributions he has made since arriving at Anfield. However, football evolves quickly, particularly at clubs competing for major honours.Munoz arrives with momentum, Ngumoha continues to develop, and Iraola will want to stamp his own identity on the squad. Those factors combine to create uncertainty around players who may once have seemed untouchable.Liverpool could still view Gakpo as an important part of the project, especially given his versatility and experience. Equally, if opportunities become more limited, both club and player may eventually have difficult decisions to make. For now, the focus remains on Munoz’s impending arrival and the fresh competition he will bring. Yet as Liverpool enter a new chapter under Iraola, Gakpo’s future has become one of the most intriguing subplots of the summer.

Among the memories is the 4-2 victory over Sweden 88 years ago — with goals from Leônidas da Silva (2), Romeu and Perácio — which secured third place in the 1938 edition. This was Brazil’s first major result in World Cups.Twenty years later, in 1958, Brazil defeated Wales 1-0, thanks to a brilliant goal by Pelé, in the World Cup quarterfinals in Gothenburg, Sweden. It then thrashed France and Sweden, both by 5-2, in Stockholm, and won its first star.Earlier, in 1954, Didi found the net in the 1-1 draw with Yugoslavia in the World Cup group stage in Lausanne, Switzerland. The national team did not play again on this same date until 1977. On that occasion, Brazil defeated Poland 3-1 in a friendly at Morumbi in São Paulo. Paulo Isidoro, Reinaldo and Rivellino scored for the team. Then, in 1997, in the Copa América group stage, the Seleção beat Colombia 2-0 in Santa Cruz de La Sierra, Bolivia, with goals from Dunga and Edmundo.Photo of Rio de Janeiro on the national team’s return to Brazil after the 1938 World CupCredits: Disclosure/X/@FIFAWorldCupTonight, the Seleção’s goal is to claim its first World Cup victory. 'Professor' Ion Cutelaba ready to teach Navajo Stirling at UFC Vegas 119
LAS VEGAS – Ion Cutelaba is ready to teach a lesson at UFC Fight Night 279.Cutelaba (20-11-1 MMA, 9-10-1 UFC) faces Navajo Stirling in the co-main event at the Meta APEX this Saturday. He brings a significant experience edge over the undefeated Stirling (9-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) and sees the difference as a teacher vs. a student."You know, once in a while, I kind of feel like a college professor. We've got these young students coming in here, and I gotta see if they're gonna pass my test or not," Cutelaba told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter at media day. "But I can do a thing or two, so I'll show you what I can do still. "... The thing is, the professor also learns and also evolves as he goes, so I'm no longer the same person that you're used to. I also have a lot of experience behind me, but I also have a lot of new skills that I've acquired as I go. So, at the moment, I can tell you that I've never felt as good and as ready as I feel right now."Stirling told reporters that he believes he's the brightest up-and-comer in the light heavyweight division, capable of reading what's happening inside the octagon like a "robot" or "AI." Cutelaba, who says he's entering this fight as confident as ever after submitting Oumar Sy in March, plans to bring the fight to whoever is on the other side of the cage."I can tell you one thing, I'm not going to be moving back," Cutelaba said. "I don't care who's in front of me. I never pick somebody who's in front of me. I'm gonna go out there, and as they say, 'I am willing to die inside that octagon to get a victory.'"This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: 'Professor' Ion Cutelaba ready to teach a lesson at UFC Fight Night 279

McDonald’s Warns Corporate Employees To Beware Emails From Sender Purporting To Be Grimace
CHICAGO—Telling staff never to click on any suspicious communications with blurred purple images, McDonald’s officials reportedly warned corporate employees Friday to beware any emails from senders purporting to be Grimace. “Grimace will never ask you for your credit card number, social security card, or blood type, so please do not follow any dubious links no matter what the sender does to convince you he is the giant personified taste bud representing our company,” read an all-staff email to corporate managers that cautioned employees against converting all the money in their bank accounts into ‘GrimaceCoin,’ which it stressed was a phishing scam and not really a new McDonald’s currency. “It is also important not to share company secrets with anyone who claims to be Grimace or his green-furred Irish counterpart Uncle O’Grimacey. In addition, please refrain from disclosing any personal passwords or other information to senders with ‘Hamburglar’ or ‘Mayor McCheese’ in their email address.” The all-staff message concluded by stating that McDonald’s managers who had business to conduct with Grimace could do it in person once he returned from vacationing with his family in Montauk. According to Angelo Mangiante of Sky Sport, the Trigoria club has offered Fiorentina around €12 million for the former Shakhtar Donetsk player. However, Fiorentina is seeking at least €18 million: a compromise could be reached thanks to the inclusion of some bonuses, which could simplify the negotiation.

Man Souring On ISIS After Reading ‘Controversies’ Section Of Militant Group’s Wikipedia
SAN JOSE, CA—Grimacing as he delved deeper into the article, local man Carter Lee reportedly found himself souring on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria on Monday after reading the “Controversies” section of the militant group’s Wikipedia page. “Holy shit—ISIS does what to unbelievers?” said Lee, recoiling in horror as he viewed a blurred-out image of a jihadist holding a severed head. “Oh my God, blowing up the Temple of Baalshamin was super lame. Shit, do these guys really sell children into sex slavery? I thought this group was just about friends and good times! It’s wild how many people walk around in ISIS merch without considering the more problematic aspects. All right, it’s settled: I’m canceling my monthly recurring donation.” Sources confirmed Lee sought to console himself with the knowledge that even if he could no longer in good conscience support ISIS, he would always have al-Qaeda. Lea Michele Shows Off Ability To Make Co-Star Cry On Command
NEW YORK—Telling everyone to count down as she turned to her colleague, actress Lea Michele reportedly showed off her ability to make her co-star cry on command Friday. “Watch, I’ll make his distress authentic by pulling from his personal traumatic experiences,” said the 39-year-old singer and former Glee star, who brought the rehearsal of her Broadway show to a halt as she beckoned everyone to come and observe. “Pretty impressive, huh? I’ve had this skill on my resume since I was a kid. Apparently it’s hard to do, but some people are just gifted. Another trick is to think of something really sad, like his mom dying, and then tell him about it in gruesome detail.” At press time, sources reported the small crowd had broken out in applause after Michele’s co-star’s sobs spiraled into a full mental breakdown. Steelers 53-man roster prediction ahead of training camp
Even though Pittsburgh Steelers training camp is a month away, much of the 53-man roster is set. There are several position battles we will be keeping an eye on and while a few guys are on the roster bubble, most of these spots are locked in. Here is our latest 53-man roster prediction for the 2026 season.Quarterback (3) - Aaron Rodgers, Drew Allar, Will HowardNo surprises here as we expect Aaron Rodgers to sign soon and Allar and Howard will battle it out to be his backup.Running back (4) - Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, Kaleb Johnson, Riley Nowakowski(FB)It wasn't easy to give Kaleb Johnson a spot here and we don't see the value in Riley Nowakowski butWide receiver (6) - DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Germie Bernard, Roman Wilson, Kaden Wetjen, Ben SkowronekAs much as we love the top three on this list, the bottom three worry us as far as depth.Tight end (3) - Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Robert TonyanThe Steelers' third tight end spot is wide open, but for now, we are giving Tonyan the nod.Offensive tackle (4) - Troy Fautanu, Broderick Jones, Dylan Cook, Max IheanachorThe start of Jones' season is in jeopardy but we love this group regardless.Interior offensive line (5) - Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, Gennings Dunker, Brock Hoffman, Spencer AndersonA great young group led by Frazier and McCormick.Defensive line (6) - Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Logan LeeThere's a ton of pressure on this group, especially Keeanu Benton and Derrick Harmon to take that next step.Outside linebacker (4) - T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Jack sawyerAll the usual suspects here, they just need to play much better.Inside linebacker (5) - Payton Wilson, Patrick Queen, Malik Harrison, Carson Bruener, Cole HolcombAnother group with plenty of talent that just need to play better.Cornerback (6) - Joey Porter Jr., Jamel Dean, Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Echols, Asante Samuel Jr., Daylen EverettThis group is great, but it will take a hit if Jaylen Ramsey has to move back to safety.Safety (3) - DeShon Elliott, Jaquan Brisker, Robert Spears-JenningsWe left this group at three because of Ramsey but we like Sebastian Castro if there's room for him.Special teams (4) - Chris Boswell, Cameron Johnston, Christian KuntzThis group remains consistent. No changes. This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers 53-man roster prediction ahead of training camp

3 NBA players likely to be in blockbuster trades ahead of draft
The NBA draft is only a few days away, and that means teams are just days away from selecting the future of their franchise. Teams are valuing first-round picks in this year’s class higher than usual due to the depth throughout the draft. Many teams could be looking to move picks, or even players, for additional draft capital. The draft also signals that the offseason has officially begun. Every team is looking to improve its roster in any way possible, whether that includes trading draft picks, role players, or even stars. There are three players in particular that, if traded, would cause madness across the league.RELATED: 2 NBA teams under the most pressure on draft nightGiannis AntetokounmpoJul 20, 2021; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34) celebrates after winning game six of the 2021 NBA Finals and the championship against the Phoenix Suns at Fiserv Forum. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesThis is the obvious one. For years, Giannis has been at the center of offseason and midseason trade rumors. Now, it seems like his chances of being traded are higher than ever, with reports claiming that if the two-time MVP is moved, it would likely happen before the draft. The Bucks are valuing draft capital over anything else in a possible Giannis trade. Many teams could be in the mix, but a few stand out.The Heat are at the forefront of the sweepstakes. Miami holds a lottery pick and young players like Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and Nikola Jovic that could headline a package. The Hornets and Clippers could also emerge as possible suitors before draft night.Zion WilliamsonThis move might come as a surprise, but it feels long overdue. Though Zion hasn’t had bad seasons, it doesn’t seem like he has made much development, nor does it seem like he can stay healthy. At this point, it feels like Zion needs a fresh start, and so do the Pelicans.New Orleans is coming off a 26-win season and holds no first-round picks. In a loaded class, trading Zion to get back into the lottery and kick-start a rebuild could make sense.Michael Porter Jr.Mar 1, 2026; Brooklyn, New York, USA; Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. (17) gestures after making a three point shot in the first quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Barclays Center. Mandatory Credit: Wendell Cruz-Imagn ImagesThough Brooklyn just acquired MPJ last offseason and he has played fairly well, the 27-year-old is entering his prime, and moving him now could be the perfect time.Brooklyn has no real direction outside of the fact that they’re rebuilding. The team drafted four players in the first round last year and already has young talent in place. In a loaded class where the Nets hold the sixth pick, don’t be surprised if they move Porter to acquire another lottery selection and continue building toward the future.— Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —

The sapphic subtext of ‘Sister Act’: One nun was “attracted” to Whoopi Goldberg’s character
If you caught a frisson of sapphic chemistry in Sister Act, there’s a good reason, according to Wendy Makkena. This week, the You Might Know Her From podcast reposted an archive clip from their 2021 interview with Makkena, in which she explained that she imagined her character in the 1992 film was attracted to Whoopi Goldberg’s. Related JD Vance runs to Fox News to complain about Whoopi Goldberg asking him about racism In Sister Act, written by out novelist and screenwriter Paul Rudnick under a pseudonym, Goldberg played Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer forced to hide from her mobster ex-boyfriend by posing as a nun. Makkena played Sister Mary Robert, a shy novitiate at the convent where Deloris takes refuge, who is immediately drawn to Goldberg’s brassy character. “I thought to myself, ‘How am I gonna then justify how obsessed I sort of am with Deloris?’” Makkena told You Might Know Her From hosts Damian Bellino and Anne Rodeman. “And then I thought, ‘Well, maybe there’s an attraction.’” Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Makkena said that she kept this bit of character work to herself. “And nobody certainly noticed it on set. It was just an internal little secret that I used as an actor,” she explained. To her surprise, however, queer audiences did pick up on the homoerotic vibes. After the movie premiered, she said, “Somebody called me, and they said, ‘Oh my gosh, Out Magazine says that ‘how come nobody has noticed the sexual tension between Deloris and Sister Mary Robert?’” “I remember thinking, ‘Oh my God, they picked up on it!’” Makkena enthused. Joaquin Niemann penalized for throwing club at US Open
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — Joaquin Niemann of Chile was given a two-shot penalty Friday when he finished the first round of the U.S. Open for throwing his club on the sixth hole, the latest example of golf cracking down on bad behavior. The additional two shots gave Niemann an 11 on the par-4 sixth round, a disastrous hole that began with two lost balls from tee shots that went well to the right in deep grass. He was even par for tournament going into No. 6, his 15th hole of the round. He finished the first round Friday morning at 78.The USGA cited Rule 1.2b on “Code of Conduct.” Among incidents that fall under this category are unacceptable language and abuse of clubs or the course. While the rule has always been in place, the USGA and all the other golf organizations have met in recent years to develop consistent guidelines for a conduct policy, applied separately by each of the organizations at their tournaments. The Masters used it for the first time in April when Sergio Garcia was issued a warning after a bad drive on the par-5 second hole in the final round. He slammed his club into the turf twice and swung his club at a table holding a green cooler. That left the head of his driver dangling from the shaft. The PGA Championship also posted the policy in the locker room at Aronimink last month. The general policy the majors are using this year typically starts with a warning. The second violation is a two-shot penalty, and the third violation leads to disqualification. There was no warning issued to Niemann because of the serious nature of his outburst. The USGA policy for serious misconduct says if a player's behavior (or that of his caddie) is “so far removed from what is expected in the spirit of the game of golf,” officials can assess a two-shot penalty or disqualify the player while considering “the frequency, impact, intent and severity of the misconduct.”The incident happened on Niemann's final hole Thursday evening of fog-delayed opening round. While video has not surfaced of the club throw, the ShotLink tracer shows his first two tee shots well to the right. The third shot was in high grass short of the fairway. From 238 yards away, Niemann hacked the next shot into the fairway, but came up short of the green from 113 yards away. This is where the play-by-play indicated he was penalized. He got down in two strokes from there for a 9, which then turned into an 11.Niemann, who left for LIV Golf after the 2022 season, won in South Korea last month for his eighth career victory in the rival league that began with Saudi Arabia funding but now faces an uncertain future with the Public Investment Fund no longer supporting it.___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf

YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits delivers rare reporter jinx on Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers
Credit: YES NetworkYou’ve heard of the announcer jinx. But have you ever seen a reporter jinx?As the second inning of Thursday’s tilt between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox got underway, YES Network clubhouse reporter Meredith Marakovits was relaying an anecdote about Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers. As she explained, the left-handed pitcher struck out the side in the first inning and appeared to be “a man on a mission,” as he wanted to put a recent string of losses behind him.“His frustration was really boiling over when I spoke to him after his last start,” said Marakovits. “‘I am sick and tired of putting this team in a hole…'”At that point, Weathers delivered a pitch to Chicago’s Colson Montgomery, who drilled it deep into centerfield where it landed on the other side of the fence for a home run.“And he might have done it again,” chimed in YES announcer Ryan Ruocco. “That ball is long gone. Off the back wall of the bullpen.”Hard for a sideline report to be more poorly timed than this was pic.twitter.com/ZEbI9eb6Oh— Talkin’ Yanks (@TalkinYanks) June 18, 2026After Ruocco and broadcasting partner Paul O’Neill marveled at Montgomery’s home-run blast, they brought it back to Marakovits, who added, “There is no way the frustration wasn’t boiling over right there” for Weathers. The announcers still have an insurmountable lead when it comes to jinxing the action on the field, but kudos to Marakovits for finally getting reporters on the board. The post YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits delivers rare reporter jinx on Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Manchester City hold Malo Gusto transfer talks with Chelsea after Marco Palestra setback
Manchester City hold Malo Gusto transfer talks with Chelsea after Marco Palestra setbackMan City have held talks with Chelsea over right-back Malo GustoChelsea are open to offers for the 23-year-old France internationalEnzo Maresca’s close relationship with Gusto is understood to be driving City’s interestManchester City have held talks with Chelsea over a potential move for right-back Malo Gusto this summer, with the 23-year-old’s agent in discussions with a number of clubs over his future at Stamford Bridge.City’s interest in the right-back position has been building throughout the off-season, with sporting director Hugo Viana identified as the driving force behind a search for a specialist in the role.Matheus Nunes performed admirably as a makeshift option at right-back throughout the 2025-26 campaign but City’s hierarchy are understood to want a dedicated occupant for the position as Enzo Maresca prepares to begin his first season in charge at the Etihad Stadium.Enzo Maresca shortlists £31M Chelsea defender as blockbuster Manchester City signingGusto joined Chelsea from Lyon in January 2023 and has established himself as first-choice right-back at Stamford Bridge, racking up significant Premier League minutes under a succession of managers. He is currently representing France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Didier Deschamps selecting him as part of Les Bleus’ squad in North America. The Gusto link is not new from a City perspective. L’Equipe reported an enquiry from Viana’s department earlier this month, at which point the connection to Maresca – who worked closely with Gusto during his time as Chelsea manager – was flagged as a key factor behind City’s attraction to the player.Maresca was also reported at the time to have shortlisted Gusto as a potential first signing at the Etihad Stadium, underlining how long the Italian has held an admiration for his former player.Report: Chelsea open to offers with Maresca driving the dealAs reported by Stamford Bridge insider Simon Phillips on his Substack and relayed by Talk Chelsea, Gusto’s agent is in talks with “a few clubs” about a potential departure from Stamford Bridge this summer, with Manchester City and Inter Milan named as the two sides who have specifically engaged in dialogue with Chelsea over a deal.Chelsea are described as ‘open to offers’ for the 23-year-old right-back, with the club’s own hierarchy reportedly confident they would be able to find an adequate replacement should a sale be sanctioned. The report adds that Gusto was ‘close’ to Maresca during the Italian’s spell in west London, and that it is Maresca himself who appears to be the primary force behind any City pursuit.Manchester City make transfer enquiry for Chelsea right-backChelsea’s own summer business has already seen Marc Cucurella depart for Real Madrid, meaning their first-choice full-backs on both sides could yet be sold before the window closes – a significant shift in the look of the squad Maresca inherited and now leaves behind at Stamford Bridge. What would Gusto bring to Manchester City?At 23, Gusto fits precisely the profile Viana has sought to target across City’s broader rebuild – young, proven at Premier League level, and with considerable room to develop further under a manager who already knows his strengths and limitations intimately. The familiarity angle is not insignificant. Maresca’s City predecessor Pep Guardiola consistently leaned on full-backs who could function as inverted options in possession, and Gusto’s natural comfort carrying the ball into midfield zones makes him adaptable to the kind of system Maresca is expected to implement at the Etihad Stadium. However, City’s position in the right-back market remains far from settled. Inter Milan are also advanced in their own pursuit, while Viana’s department continues to monitor alternatives including Feyenoord’s Givairo Read – meaning Gusto is not necessarily the guaranteed destination even if Chelsea’s openness to a sale holds firm.Whether City can get ahead of Inter and bring the deal to a conclusion before Gusto returns from World Cup duty remains to be seen.

Angel Reese’s alleged ‘dirty play’ against Caitlin Clark goes viral after Fever-Dream game
Photo by Brian Spurlock/Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesAngel Reese and Caitlin Clark found themselves at the center of another viral WNBA moment following the Fever-Dream game, this time involving a play that fans feared could have ended badly for Clark.Atlanta took the win.The conversation online quickly shifted to one awkward landing in the paint.Angel Reese’s alleged dirty play on Caitlin Clark goes viralThe incident occurred as Clark drove to the basket while being guarded by Rhyne Howard. Howard was whistled for the foul, but Clark landed awkwardly after the attempt, coming down on Reese’s foot near the restricted area.Fans accused Reese of not giving Clark enough space to land, noting that the Fever guard labored to get back up. No foul was called on Reese, and intent is difficult to judge in a crowded paint play, but the clip spread quickly because of the injury risk.Tensions were already high, with Reese involved in several other moments that drew attention during Atlanta’s 108-101 win. She was seen rolling her eyes toward Clark from the scorer’s table, then later appeared to mock Clark with a flopping gesture after a foul call.Clark still led Indiana with 26 points, matching Kelsey Mitchell for the team high. She shot 8-for-17 from the field, made 2-of-5 from three, added seven assists, and went 8-for-12 at the free throw line. That free-throw volume helped fuel the foul-baiting debate around the game.Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark’s rivalry keeps tighteningReese had the better team result and another strong individual performance. She finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 5-for-8 from the line for her ninth double-double of the season.Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty ImagesHer year in Atlanta has been impressive. ESPN lists Reese at 15.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. She is also closing in on becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 career rebounds.Clark’s numbers continue to stand out, too. ESPN lists her at 20.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game, with Indiana’s offense still built around her shooting, passing, and pressure on defenses. The WNBA head-to-head still favors Clark, who leads 6-2 over Reese in their pro careers. The overall tally across college and the WNBA remains much closer because Reese held the edge during their collegiate matchups.Every interaction between them draws attention because the rivalry already has years of history. The latest clip does not prove intent from Reese, but it added another tense layer to the WNBA’s most-watched individual matchup.Read more:Why Caitlin Clark couldn’t ‘sleep very well’ before playing against Angel ReeseCaitlin Clark fans hit out at Angel Reese for mimicking Indiana Fever starSophie Cunningham Gives Blunt Verdict On WNBA’s 50-Game Expansion After Massive Pay Raise

Real Madrid learn cost of signing Serie A star Alessandro Bastoni
Real Madrid learn cost of signing Serie A star Alessandro BastoniDespite already having signed Ibrahima Konate and having successfully renewed the contract of Antonio Rudiger for another year, the new Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho does not seem fully satisfied, and reportedly wants another new center-back before the start of the new season. For their part, the Merengues also seem ready to grant the Portuguese trainer’s wishes, and have been linked with several defenders for this purpose, most notably the Borussia Dortmund center-back, Nico Schlotterbeck.Another notable name that has been linked with Real Madrid recently is Alessandro Bastoni, who continues to remain one of the best defenders in the Serie A, and recently won another Scudetto title.Only a few weeks ago, the Italian was also being strongly linked with Barcelona. However, these links have cooled down lately, as the Catalans were unable to pay the price demanded by Inter for him, i.e., €70 million. Now, according to Diario AS, this is also the amount for which the Nerazzurri would start negotiations with the Merengues for their star defender, and they are not expected to budge from this figure.Relations between the two clubs are excellent. They are currently in negotiations for the transfer of Denzel Dumfries, whose release clause would be paid in July. Similarly, the presidents of the two entities, Florentino Perez and Beppe Marotta, also recently met on the occasion of the Corazon Classic match at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, these good relations might also not be enough for Real Madrid to get their desired player on a discount, especially as Inter are in no hurry to lose one of their best defenders. Alessandro Bastoni himself is willing to continue with the Italian club, but might not be able to resist the opportunity of playing for the Merengue club and mark a new era at one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
