Charli Cannon scores first WMX victory after Lachlan Turner crash
MOUNT MORRIS, Pennsylvania: Charli Cannon took the lead away from Lachlan Turner as time was running off the clock when Turner cross-rutted and crashed.Cannon struggled in Moto 1, when Taylah McCullough lost traction going up the face of the tunnel jump. Cannon rebounded to finish fifth in that race. She led led on the original start, but she quickly lost the tow on the second race won Moto 2.Turner has been under the weather all weekend in the High Point National, but even than could not keep her from challenging for the overall win. Turner and Cannon tied in points, but Cannon was awarded the overall on the tiebreaker of the better second moto finish.Turner got a poor start in Friday's Moto 1 and rebounded to finish third. She got another poor start in the second moto on the initial gate drop, but a massive Turn 1 crash that eliminated her from competition forced a complete restart. The third time was the charm and Turner earned the holeshot in Moto 2 and rode away from the field.Lotte van Drunen also benefitted from the restart. Her holeshot starting device locked down on the initial start. The team disengaged the device and did not get a good start without it, but she battled to fourth in Moto 2 and finished second overall.Herrick's crash in Turn 1 was the scariest incident of the afternoon. She was transported off the track on the Alpinestars Medical cart.

Manchester City Are Confident About Signing This Nottingham Forest Midfielder: Should They Snap Him Up?
Manchester City Are Confident About Signing This Nottingham Forest Midfielder: Should They Snap Him Up?In a recent post on X, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester City are confident about recruiting Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer. It has been stated that the Mancunian club are about to finalise a move to bring the English talent to the Etihad Stadium this off-season.Anderson’s Solid Campaign In The Premier LeagueAnderson enjoyed an impressive campaign at the Midlands club as he put in a run of solid performances at the centre of their midfield. The 23-year-old did well to score four times and pick up five assists in 50 matches for Nottingham last season in various competitions. The English sensation is currently one of the most consistent central midfielders in the Premier League. Therefore, it is no wonder that Man City are hoping to get a deal done for Anderson this off-season.His current contract at the City Ground will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Mancunian club to sign him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.TAMPA, FLORIDA – JUNE 06: Elliot Anderson #8 of England controls the ball during a international friendly match between England and New Zealand at Raymond James Stadium on June 06, 2026 in Tampa, Florida. (Photo by Rich Storry/Getty Images)Should Manchester City Snap Anderson Up This Summer?Anderson is a tough-tackling midfielder who can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and is full of energy and running at the centre of the park. The English sensation can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third. Anderson is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Mancunian club if they manage to get him on board this summer.Anderson would bring more bite and steel to Man City’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years. At 23, Anderson has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good choice for the Premier League club to consider this off-season. He will also help Man City challenge across all fronts in the future. All in all, the Mancunian giants should focus on trying everything they can to snap Anderson up this summer.

Matthew Golden analysis: Stats show bright spots and areas to improve
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden had an interesting rookie year, flashing the talent which made him a first-round pick, but also finding his opportunities limited in a crowded wide receiver room.It was an up and down campaign in terms of production, with highlight performances against the Bengals in Week 6and the Bears in the playoffs, and other stretches where he was barely involved, partially due to shoulder and wrist injuries, as well as Christian Watson’s return to the lineup. After the highs and the lows, Golden ended the year with just 445 yards and one touchdown, but how did his rookie season look according to the underlying stats? Here are his percentile ranks at the wide receiver position in 2025:In terms of usage, Golden’s chart reflects the fact he was primarily utilized as a deep threat as a rookie, with an ADOT of 13.2 yards, which ranked 19th out of 91 eligible receivers. This makes sense given his 4.29 speed. He was effective in that field-stretching role, scoring well in yards per route run (Y/RR) on both deep (20+ yards downfield) and intermediate (10-20 yards) routes. However, he was not as effective on routes within 10 yards of, or behind the line of scrimmage, and as evidenced by his targets per route run, which ranked 73rd out of 91 eligible receivers, he was not a high volume player or a go-to guy within the Packers offense.Much like Christian Watson earlier in his career, the ability to take the top off a defense is clearly there with Golden, but in 2026 and beyond, he needs to become more of a chain-moving presence in the offense, having ranked below average in first downs per route run as a rookie. In fairness to Golden, it is likely more of an opportunity issue than a lack of ability, as on tape he was one of the best route runners on the team, so there is no reason he cannot excel at all levels of the field, including on short passes. If anything, the Packers would be wise to stop miscasting him in a YAC-centric role. Despite ranking in the 76th percentile in missed tackles forced per reception, Golden is better before the catch than after it. He ranked in just the 21st percentile in Y/RR on screen passes.Having Jayden Reed healthy again should help in that regard, as he should resume his role as the slot receiver and primary target of Green Bay’s quick hitters in the passing game. Golden played in the slot 41.6% of the time as a rookie, a higher rate than in any of his college seasons.Golden’s impressive Y/RR against man bodes well for the future, and combines well with his ability to threaten over the top, giving Green Bay answers when teams decide to challenge their receivers.Conversely, his below average Y/RR versus zone again speaks to the need to use him in more ways where he can keep the offense moving, rather than just a deep threat. For his part, Golden needs to continue to earn the coaching staff’s trust, as there have been suggestions he had a fair few rookie moments throughout the year, manifesting in him running incorrect routes. As he gets more comfortable in the offense, he should become more of a focal point.Earning the trust of his quarterback is also key for a young receiver, and Golden will have done that by rewarding Jordan Love for looking his way, dropping just one of his 46 targets and bringing in four of his six contested targets. Golden’s hands and ability to adjust to the ball were noteworthy.A quirk of his rookie year was an inability to find the end zone, with Golden having to wait until the postseason loss to Chicago to finally score his first touchdown as a pro. There were plenty of times where he was open to potentially score, but for one reason or another the ball did not come his way, and in general, the Packers offense did not appear to be looking to feature Golden once they got into the red zone. We will see if that changes in 2026.One area Golden must improve in 2026 is his run blocking, which is famously important for receivers in Matt LaFleur’s offense to get on the field. He ranked 104th out of 142 eligible receivers as a rookie with a 47.1 PFF grade as a run blocker. He is not an especially big receiver, so run blocking will likely never be a true strength of his game, but it is an area for him to continue to focus on moving forward.Entering Year 2, the hope for Golden is that he is able to expand his role within the offense and get the opportunity to show his first round pedigree more consistently. This article originally appeared on Packers Wire: Matthew Golden analysis: Stats show bright spots and areas to improve

NASCAR heads onto eye-popping Naval Base Coronado in its latest Cup Series race
Ryan Blaney wants to keep his eyes on the road as NASCAR returns to Southern California with a race through the bone-jarring streets of San Diego’s Coronado Island.Yet the Team Penske driver is worried about being distracted Sunday as his No. 12 Ford barrels toward the third turn with the USS Carl Vinson directly in its path.“I hope I’m paying more attention to the corner and not the carrier when I brake into that corner,” Blaney said with a laugh. “We’ll see. It’d be a heck of a way to go.”There will be a dive team on hand in the highly unlikely scenario that a car lands in the water, but the 16-turn, 3.4-mile layout at Naval Base Coronado will already make a splash in many other ways. It’s the second street course in the 77-year history of the Cup Series and the first that NASCAR will hold on a military installation. Amazon Prime Video will broadcast the race from the USS Vinson, putting its studio set on the deck and its announcing booth in the bridge of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The picturesque views of battleships and the San Diego Bay will be juxtaposed with a track that’s the roughest yet on the Next Gen car, which made its debut in 2022.“This is quite possibly the hardest thing we’ve done in a race car,” Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing driver Chris Buescher said after practice Friday. “It was very difficult to find your marks, and then you just really don’t have much room for error.”Points leader Tyler Reddick balanced taking in the scenery while taming a course with massive railroad-style ties that were launching cars off the asphalt.“Hold your breath,” he said. “That Turn 3 braking zone is difficult. Hopefully, nobody gets distracted by the aircraft carrier, but it’s quite the sight in front of you.”NASCAR wants to make an impression with its first points race in Southern California since California Speedway was shuttered three years ago. NASCAR chief operating officer Ben Kennedy said racing in a market of more than 20 million is “paramount,” and he’s been aggressive with building schedules to reach new fans. Last year, a street race in downtown Chicago completed a three-year run, and a road course in Mexico City made its debut.“When I started racing in the Cup Series, NASCAR was very schedule risk-averse,” said 2012 champion Brad Keselowski, who’s in his 17th season. “Maybe a date changed year to year, but basically they were all the same racks. And now it feels like the culture has just flipped 180, and we’re just major schedule innovations. I welcome that.”The 2027 schedule is being formulated and might not include Chicago, Mexico City or San Diego, but Keselowski (who sits in on planning meetings as a team owner) hinted it’ll have more surprises. He would like to see NASCAR embrace more ovals (such as the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway short track in Tennessee).Coronado has still been a breath of fresh, salty ocean air. Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron said he was excited to tackle a unique track that Cup drivers are commuting to with scooters. “The muck of the Cup series is just kind of grinding,” he said. “I think we’re conditioned well for a new challenge.”Debut for MagnussenA week after racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for BMW’s top sports car team, Formula One veteran Kevin Magnussen will make his NASCAR debut in Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 Chevrolet. Magnussen joins four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves and F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen as drivers of the No. 91 Chevrolet, which aims to bring stars from other series to NASCAR.Magnussen's father, Jan, finished 12th at Sonoma Raceway in 2010.“I always loved NASCAR,” Kevin Magnussen said. “My dad loved it so much and had such a great experience. It’s a big privilege. Not many European drivers get that opportunity, so I’m very thankful and privileged to be here. A Formula 1 car is more like a fighter jet with wheels than it is a car. These are real cars.”Sticking aroundBuescher signed a multiyear contract extension to stay at Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, where he made his NASCAR debut in 2011. Buescher, who is ranked seventh in the points standings, has five Cup wins for the team since taking over the No. 17 Ford in 2020, and Keselowski said “it was not a layup for us to re-sign him” because of interest from rivals.“From a performance standpoint, we’re in a good spot, but we have to be able to better it yet,” Buescher said about why he returned. “Some of it is feeling like you have a home, and the other part of it is truly feeling like the competition level is at the cusp of truly being great.”Odds and endsShane van Gisbergen is the overwhelming favorite over Trackhouse Racing teammate Connor Zilisch and points leader Tyler Reddick. “I feel like it disrespects my competition," van Gisbergen said. "I know there’s probably 10 guys that can win on pure pace. In NASCAR, so much stuff can happen, so I don’t think it’s going to be easy.” At 3.4 miles, the 16-turn layout is the fifth-longest track in Cup Series history. The Daytona Beach, Florida, road course used from 1949-58 holds the record at 4.17 miles. … Christopher Bell, who still is recovering from a broken wrist in a Michigan International Speedway crash, will have Brent Crews on standby as a relief driver. … Addressing concerns from teams about wear, NASCAR added a set of tires for the Cup race.___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

🚨 Right after kick-off: Germany star sets a World Cup record!
🚨 Right after kick-off: Germany star sets a World Cup record! He probably didn’t even think himself that he would break this record. After all, Manuel Neuer had actually no longer planned to stand between the posts for the Germany team again. But now, as we know, things turned out very differently. And thanks to his comeback for the Germany team, Neuer directly broke a record today in just his second appearance since returning in national team colors. With his appearance in the second group match against Côte d’Ivoire, he now has a total of 21 World Cup matches to his name. That put him past Hugo Lloris, who kept goal for France in 20 World Cup games. The Frenchman retired from the national team in January 2023 — just a few weeks after losing the World Cup final in Qatar to Argentina — and accordingly no longer has any chance at this tournament to add to his number of appearances. Quite unlike the 40-year-old German keeper. As long as his body holds up, he will make at least one more World Cup appearance: in the final group match against Ecuador. Hopefully with a win behind him and the certainty that they will go through and reach the round of 32.That could be wrapped up now — but for that, they need a win against Côte d’Ivoire. At the moment, it’s still 0-0.What do you think? Will Neuer keep a clean sheet today? Write it in the comments! This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. Bizarre scene in Chennai! Rahmanullah Gurbaz kicks ball to boundary, gifts Rohit Sharma four runs - Watch
Cricket briefly gave way to football at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday as Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz produced an unusual moment that left fans amused and concerned in equal measure during the third ODI against India. The incident occurred on the third ball of the third over when pacer Fareed Ahmad banged one short to Rohit Sharma. Attempting an aggressive shot, the Indian batter only managed a top edge that sailed over Gurbaz's head. The Afghanistan keeper sprinted back desperately to save the boundary, but things took an unexpected turn.In a sequence that resembled a football move more than a cricketing effort, Gurbaz failed to gather the ball cleanly and instead saw it ricochet off his knees before racing away to the fence. The bizarre stop attempt drew laughter from spectators.Watch: — StarSportsTamil (@StarSportsTamil) However, the light-hearted moment quickly turned into a cause for concern as Gurbaz was seen clutching and rubbing his knees in discomfort after the collision. The team physio rushed out to check on him, but the wicketkeeper signalled that he was fine and asked for play to resume without further delay. The mishap came on a difficult day for Afghanistan, who were restricted to 218 after electing to bat first. India pacer Prasidh Krishna starred with a career-best 5 for 23, reducing the visitors to 36/4 inside the opening 10 overs.Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi then staged a remarkable rescue act with his maiden ODI century. The left-hander scored 102 off 131 balls and shared key partnerships with Azmatullah Omarzai (50) and Mohammad Nabi to steer his side past the 200-run mark.India won the match by nine wickets, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal (110 not out) laying a solid foundation before Sharma departed for 79. With this result, Team India completed a 3-0 clean sweep over Afghanistan.

Chelsea Are In Talks To Sign This Juventus Talent: Should Alonso Move In For Him?
Chelsea Are In Talks To Sign This Juventus Talent: Should Alonso Move In For Him?In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Chelsea are in talks to sign Juventus talent Andrea Cambiaso. It has been revealed that the Blues have identified the Italian defender as a main target for this summer transfer window.Cambiaso’s Solid Season In Italian FootballCambiaso managed to catch the eye at times with his performances on the left side of Juventus’ backline last season. The 26-year-old found the back of the net three times and secured five assists in 47 matches for the Turin outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions. The Italian talent is currently one of the most talented full-backs in Serie A. Hence, the Blues would do well to bring him on board later this year. His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2029. Therefore, Chelsea would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing him this off-season.UDINE, ITALY – MARCH 14: Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus looks on during the warm up ahead of the Serie A match between Udinese Calcio and Juventus FC at Stadio Friuli on March 14, 2026 in Udine, Italy. (Photo by Timothy Rogers/Getty Images)Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Move In For Cambiaso?Cambiaso loves a tackle and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a tidy passer as well. The Italian sensation can deliver some inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty area from the left flank. Cambiaso mainly operates as a left-back but can also serve as a left-sided wide player or as a right-back if asked to do so by his manager. However, the jury is still out on whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Blues manage to snap him up in this transfer window.Cambiaso would bring more quality and depth to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting place at the West London club in the coming years. At 26, Cambiaso has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent fit for Alonso’s needs this summer. Thus, the Blues would be wise to move in for him before the end of this transfer window. However, Alonso has to give him some time to adjust to life in England.

Dan Hurley pitches UConn-Duke game at White House after UFC Freedom 250
Credit: Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images / Amber Searls-Imagn ImagesDan Hurley left the White House South Lawn on Sunday with one idea in mind: to put a basketball court where the Octagon was.The UConn head coach was among the guests at UFC Freedom 250, the first professional sporting event ever held on the South Lawn, a seven-fight card on Paramount+ that coincided with President Trump’s 80th birthday and the 250th anniversary of American independence. When it was over, a TMZ reporter asked Hurley what sporting event should come next.“That would be good, man,” Hurley told TMZ DC. “I think UConn should definitely be in it. Maybe UConn-Duke. Yeah, it’d be pretty cool. I’m definitely down.”UConn and Duke met in the Elite Eight with the Huskies trailing by 19 points before Braylon Mullins hit a 35-foot buzzer-beater over Isaiah Evans to complete one of the more stunning comebacks in recent tournament memory and send UConn to the Final Four. The Huskies ultimately lost to Michigan in the national championship game in Indianapolis, but a rematch with Duke is already on the books — Amazon Prime Video has a neutral-site game between the two programs scheduled for Nov. 25 — and apparently, the South Lawn works just as well for Hurley. The event Hurley attended had no business being on the South Lawn, at least according to a federal lawsuit that tried to stop it. The suit, filed by two Virginia residents, argued that Freedom 250 violated National Park Service rules banning sporting events on the South Lawn, accused the UFC and its broadcast partners of hiding a commercial enterprise behind a Semiquincentennial Commission exemption that was never designed to protect a for-profit event, and flagged Trump’s purchase of stock in UFC parent company TKO as a conflict of interest. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta cleared it to proceed, ruling that the plaintiffs failed to establish standing or irreparable harm, and citing the UFC’s $60 million investment as evidence that blocking the event would cause substantial damage of its own.Dana White had been promising Super Bowl-type viewership numbers for the event, and spent months teasing the possibility of CBS carrying part of it on linear television. Per Sports Business Journal, that was never actually on the table. The card aired exclusively on Paramount+ and averaged 7 million U.S. viewers, with 17 million total tuning in across the U.S. and Latin America — the biggest exclusive live event in Paramount+ history — and nowhere near the Super Bowl, which averaged 124.9 million viewers this past February.White said afterward that Freedom 250 was a one-time event, in part because the UFC projected a $30 million loss on the production. Whether a basketball court ever goes up on the South Lawn is entirely up to people above Hurley’s pay grade, but if Duke can end up playing in a baseball stadium over a broadcast rights dispute, the White House lawn isn’t the most outlandish venue on the board. The post Dan Hurley pitches UConn-Duke game at White House after UFC Freedom 250 appeared first on Awful Announcing.

Prasidh Krishna's five-for, Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten 110 power India to 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 110 while Rohit Sharma made a fluent 79 as India thrashed Afghanistan by nine wickets in Chennai on Saturday to complete a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODI series.Chasing a modest target of 219, the Indian openers made light work of the task with an impressive 170-run opening partnership. Rohit, after a watchful start, shifted gears and attacked Afghanistan's bowlers, including star spinner Rashid Khan. Jaiswal looked comfortable from the beginning and reached his century in just 83 balls, sealing the match in style with a six. India eventually reached 224 for one in only 28.4 overs. The duo ensured there were no hiccups in the chase, with Jaiswal registering his second ODI hundred and Rohit narrowly missing out on a century after falling for 79. Their aggressive approach put Afghanistan under pressure throughout and left little room for a comeback.Prasidh Krishna's five-for gives India edgeEarlier, Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball, picking up a career-best 5 for 23 to reduce Afghanistan to 36 for four inside the first 10 overs. The pacer removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah and Darwish Rasooli in a devastating opening spell.Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi then led a spirited fightback with his maiden ODI hundred. The left-hander scored 102 off 131 balls and shared crucial partnerships with Azmatullah Omarzai, who made 50, and Mohammad Nabi to guide the visitors to 218.Despite Shahidi's brave effort, Afghanistan's total proved insufficient. India dominated both with the ball and the bat to wrap up another comprehensive victory and finish the series unbeaten. The visitors also suffered a five-run penalty after Shahidi repeatedly stepped into the danger area of the pitch during the innings.

Larger World Cup led to predictions of lopsided affairs. The results tell a different story
GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — Not long after FIFA announced an expanded 48-team World Cup, criticism began to pour in about how the quality of the tournament would likely be worsened. The critics argued that by allowing smaller teams to the expanded field, the number of weak matchups would increase, as would the chances of lopsided results. But as the biggest World Cup ever progresses, those fears have not fully materialized. Through the first 24 games, the goal differential was unchanged compared to the tournament in Qatar in 2022, suggesting the larger field did not create more one-sided competition.Germany did rout newcomer Curacao 7-1, Qatar was trounced 6-0 by Canada, and Haiti was eliminated after two matches. But some of the less-traditional nations were able to hold their ground early on.Cape Verde, the fifth-lowest ranked team entering the World Cup and one of the smallest nations to ever make it to the tournament, pulled off one of the biggest surprises in World Cup history by holding European champions Spain to a 0-0 draw.Congo, whose only other World Cup participation was in 1974 as Zaire, was unfazed while facing Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, holding one of the tournament favorites to a 1-1 draw. What are the reasons for the overall competitiveness?Coaches, players and analysts say global soccer has become increasingly competitive, with more players joining the top leagues and more top coaches being hired by smaller nations. There is also wider availability of tactical knowledge and physical conditioning methods, allowing less-traditional teams to better compete against the traditional powerhouses."It’s very tough to win. It surprised me how even things are. They had talked about having 48 teams, but not counting Germany, which did have a big gap with many goals scored, all other matches were very complicated,” Mexico coach Javier Aguirre said. “It’s not easy to win. Really, believe me. The teams have been improving, until recently we didn’t know much about Cape Verde, and there it is. Morocco played a tremendous match against Brazil."While the number of goals scored after the first 24 matches increased from 57 in Qatar four years ago to 75 now, the goal differential this year was 35, exactly the same after the same number of games in Qatar. Cape Verde was ranked 67th when it came up with the upset by playing second-ranked Spain to a draw.“This game showed us that the World Cup is a tournament with a lot of equality. It’s very complicated,” Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said. “These teams have their limitations, but they do what they do well. The team we faced was clearly inferior to ours, but it did what it had to do very well and defended very well. In every match you have to be fully focused and extremely precise to be able to overcome your rivals.”Curacao, the third-lowest ranked team at the start of the tournament at No. 82, held Germany to a 1-1 draw until late in the first half before the European powerhouse took over for good.Haiti, ranked 83rd and back in the World Cup after five decades, lost 1-0 to Scotland in a decent performance in its opener, but then was no rival for five-time champion Brazil, conceding three first-half goals before improving to hold its ground in the second half of a 3-0 loss. Qatar, 56th in the world coming in, conceded six goals against co-host Canada, but it was coming off a 1-1 draw against 19th-ranked Switzerland.New Zealand was the lowest-ranked team at the start of the tournament at No. 85. It drew 1-1 with 20th-ranked Iran.UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin was criticized last Sunday by soccer governing bodies in Asia, Africa and the Caribbean for allegedly saying the expanded tournament created uninteresting matches.“We have a huge number of matches that are completely uninteresting,” he said, according to Zurnal 24, while adding the expansion allows small countries to participate and experience the tournament’s excitement. The associations of Cape Verde, Congo, Curaçao, Haiti, Jordan and Uzbekistan issued a joint statement they said was in solidarity with the federations of Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.“Football does not belong to a select group of nations. Its strength comes from its universality,” the statement said. “For many countries, participation in the FIFA World Cup is not only a sporting achievement. It is a moment that inspires a generation, accelerates football development and creates memories that last a lifetime.”The excitement for the underdog teams can, of course, be short-lived as previous dark horses have seen following surprising debuts in the World Cup. But some of them have hope, and that can be enough to carry a team.“When you are organized and together, you are able to compete," said new Tunisia coach Hervé Renard, admitting that Cape Verde was giving his team hope for a good result against Japan on Saturday. "We have to follow this example and not be scared of defeat.”___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/fifa-world-cup

Lakers linked to massive four-team Giannis Antetokounmpo trade for $106 million shot-blocking star
Lakers linked to massive four-team Giannis Antetokounmpo trade for $106 million shot-blocking star originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to another massive, multi-team blockbuster trade centered on Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. On Friday, NBA reporter Evan Sidery named the Miami Heat’s 22-year-old rising star Kel’el Ware as a potential Lakers acquisition this summer. On Saturday, Sidery switched things up a bit by crafting a monster offseason deal that would land the Los Angeles Lakers a well-documented, 30-year-old shot-blocking star.“A potential four-team Giannis Antetokounmpo trade framework: (Miami) Heat: Giannis, Bobby Portis, Dalton Knecht,” Sidery wrote on X/Twitter. "(Detroit) Pistons: Tyler Herro + Jake LaRavia."“Lakers: Myles Turner + Andre Jackson Jr. Bucks: Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Isaiah Stewart, Nikola Jovic, Marcus Sasser, Caris LeVert, Jarred Vanderbilt, No. 13, No. 25, future 1sts + swaps (via Miami).”Although Turner is a below-average rebounder for his size (he averaged 6.6 rebounds with the Bucks last year and is a 6.6-rebound contributor for his career at 6-foot-11), he’s undoubtedly solidified himself as an elite rim protector in the big leagues. The Texas product has a knack for meeting opponents at their apex and viciously swatting layup and dunk attempts at the rim as a primary or help defender. Turner, who’s averaging 2.1 blocks for his career, recorded 1.6 of them with the Bucks this year. The Bedford, Texas native is also a legitimate stretch big, capable of playing effective pick-and-pop and pick-and-roll basketball alongside Luka Doncic in Los Angeles. In addition to his 1.6 blocks, Turner contributed 11.9 points on 44.0% field goal shooting and 38.3% three-point shooting this past season. With Sidery reporting in a separate tweet that the Bucks are looking to flip Turner this summer, it could make sense for him to join a Lakers franchise that would be wise to start fresh at the center position. Oregon's Dante Moore hosts hundreds at Eugene youth football camp
Dante Moore couldn't wipe the smile off his face June 20 as he walked on the turf at Marist Catholic High School in front of hundreds of kids attending his youth camp. The Oregon football quarterback trotted on to the field to repeated chants of "Dante" from the crowd of kids ages 6-16, including several "I love you, Dante" screams. The typically calm and collected Moore couldn't help but laugh and think back to his days as a kid chasing a dream in Michigan. "I remember when I used to go to camps and see people walk around that are in the NFL and in college and I said, 'One day I’m gonna be in their shoes,'" Moore said. "It’s just funny because when they say them type of things it just makes me enjoy and appreciate life. Just making sure that I’m putting the right impact into people’s lives."The camp, put on by FlexWork Sports — the same group that helped Bo Nix put in his youth camp two years ago at North Eugene High — featured drills run by FlexWork coaching volunteers and Moore's interaction with kids, including throwing and catching passes during chaotic two-hand touch mock scrimmages. Before that, Moore spoke to the crowd and said he'd answer any three questions from the group. The first was the first question Moore had to answer this spring after opting to return to Oregon for a third season: Why not go to the NFL? He gave the same answer he gave reporters then, that he still had things to work on and things he wanted to accomplish for the Ducks. The next question was much tougher: "Are you better than Bo Nix?" Moore shook his head and said "no," with a smile. The last question was if Moore could play for any NFL team, what would it be? A heavy contingent of Seattle Seahawks fans lined the young crowd, who shouted out their support of the team to which Moore eventually Seattle for the group. Afterward, Moore's focus was on preaching football as being something that's fun and not competitive all the time. "We can be loving in the way we can connect with other people and making sure we have a great time," Moore said. "It’s just having a great time with the kids and seeing everybody smile and run around."Moore has made a habit of showing up in the Eugene-Springfield community of late. After a Thurston Elementary teacher and her students sent letters to Moore throughout the year and read his children's book, "From Journey to Dream," Moore visited the second-grade class earlier this month to surprise the group, sign autographs and take pictures. Though Moore has only lived in Eugene for a few years, the community feels like home, he said. "This community, this city is loving," Moore said. "Everybody just loves pouring into kids and athletes and it’s just when you see that, you just want to give back … I’m thankful for them and of course the teacher."Moore's summer of giving back isn't quite over as he and a group of Ducks will head to Japan at the end of the month to host a football showcase. Oregon teammates Bear Alexander and Jeremiah McClellan were also in attendance at the camp. Moore will head up the road to Portland for another youth camp at Ida B. Wells High on Sunday, as well. Expert Opens Up About Skepticism Over Arch Manning Ahead of 2026 Season: “He Needs to Be Healthy”
Sep 20, 2025; Austin, Texas, USA; Texas Longhorns wide receiver Parker Livingstone, © Scott Wachter-Imagn ImagesThe Texas Longhorns were one of the most popular teams last year, with analysts predicting that Arch Manning would lead the team to the Playoffs in his first year as the starting quarterback. While the Longhorns missed their opportunity last year, many analysts are optimistic about the team’s offense going into the 2026 college football season; however, CFB expert Connor O’Gara has some doubts about their quarterback.Talking about his 2026 CFP bracket, O’Gara told J.D. PicKell that while he is high on Texas for the upcoming season, there are a lot of things Manning would have to do right on his part.“I think that if you’re trying to find what is the thing that you can buy as much as anything in the SEC this year, I am buying the Texas offense, even if I still have skepticism about Arch.” O’Gara said. “And skepticism that we talked about, the short throws, the issues of being able to, you know, figure out the footwork, if he was healthy last year, whether he was or whatever. He needs to be healthy this year. You need to be able to execute the short throws that Quinn Ewers made I think look really effortless at times. And you need to be able to lean more on this ground game. The experience on the offensive line is really going to benefit them.”Steve Sarkisian Weighs In on Arch Manning’s Potential Plans After the 2026 SeasonDuring a recent conversation on “Up and Adams”, Steve Sarkisian discussed Arch Manning potentially returning for a third year as a starter in 2027.Sarkisian highlighted that Manning has had a lot of NIL success to his name because of both his lineage and the Texas brand, which might be why he ends up staying with the program for another year. The Longhorns coach also added that Manning loves college football and the University of Texas, which could also lead to his decision to come back.“On the same token, I won’t be surprised if he declares and decides to go to the [NFL] draft. Some of that depends on how we play as a team this fall. How does he play individually?” Sarkisian added.Manning is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.Read More:Did Dianna Russini Really Save an Elderly Man From a Car Crash? Shane van Gisbergen captures the pole for inaugural NASCAR race at Naval Base Coronado
CORONADO, Calif. (AP) — Even when he’s less than his best on the twistiest tracks in NASCAR, Shane van Gisbergen still is better on one lap than the rest of the Cup Series drivers. The Trackhouse Racing driver qualified first Saturday for the inaugural race on Naval Base Coronado near San Diego, turning a 2-minute, 14.788-second lap around the 16-turn, 3.4-mile street course that easily put him ahead of Carson Hocevar. But van Gisbergen, who has won seven of his 14 Cup starts on street and road courses, was unhappy with the effort despite winning his sixth career pole and second this season.“I left a lot of time on the table,” said van Gisbergen, who scraped the wall with his No. 97 Chevrolet. “I thought the track would be better, and I thought people would execute a bit better, but it’s just so difficult. So yeah, it’s amazing. I guess this Chevy’s really good. Just need to get the driver better.”Ryan Blaney qualified third, and Zane Smith was fourth — the first of six drivers in the top 10 starting spots who are winless this season.Their desperation for a victory will be mixed with heavy tire wear that has many drivers predicting chaos over 75 laps Sunday.“It’s going to be a heck of a race,” Blaney said. “Tire degradation is massive, so it’s who can kind of manage their rears better. Manage your tires and don’t hit any concrete. I hope I can do those two things. That might be the recipe for success.”With no Toyotas qualifying in the top 10 (for the first time since last March), several big names will be coming from the back. Denny Hamlin will start 26th as he seeks his fourth consecutive victory with the No. 11 Toyota.Chase Elliott qualified 30th in the No. 9 Chevrolet. Seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson qualified 36th as the El Cajon, California, native makes his second and final start of the season at his hometown race. With many friends and family from New Zealand on hand, van Gisbergen will be aiming for his eighth Cup victory on a road or street course, which would break a tie with Elliott for most among active drivers.“There’s going to be a lot of carnage, a lot of tire gambling, and hopefully we can make the calls right,” said van Gisbergen, who won from the pole position at Watkins Glen International two months ago.___AP auto racing: https://apnews.com/hub/auto-racing

🤯 Germany's defence all at sea: Ivory Coast shock the favourites!
🤯 Germany's defence all at sea: Ivory Coast shock the favourites! After a lively opening 20 minutes and a few minor concerns about Nico Schlotterbeck, the DFB team’s second group match has now delivered its first major flashpoints — and the shock of a surprising deficit for Germany!First, the ball ended up in the Ivorian net at the other end (22’), but referee Benitez immediately blew the whistle. The reason: following a corner, Fofana rose high in his own box and was impeded by Pavlovic, who also jumped and headed the ball. Although the Bayern star ultimately nodded the ball into the net, the goal did not count because he had his arm out and caught Fofana in the process. It was by no means a clear refereeing error, so VAR did not intervene and the goal remained disallowed. Certainly a defensible decision.Instead, things turned bitter for the German side right after the following drinks break: after Brown initially made a successful block against an effort from Amad, the rebound fell to Franck Kessié in the penalty area, and he ruthlessly buried it with his right foot (30’). So the underdogs lead the German national team 1–0 — the same team that played so brilliantly just last Sunday. If it stays this way, or gets even worse, going into halftime, things certainly won’t get any more pleasant for head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side. What do you make of Wirtz, Musiala and Co.’s performance so far? Can they turn it around quickly? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments! This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. You can read the original version in 🇩🇪 here.

Amateur stars Russell and Koivun play together in the US Open's 'future of golf' pairing
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — Miles Russell had a long walk to his ball at the end of a long U.S. Open round with Jackson Koivun on Saturday after smashing his tee shot 407 yards on the 18th hole.“Not bad, not bad,” Russell said afterward with a smile. “I hit that one pretty good.”Imagine what he might be able to do when he's all grown up.The 17-year-old Russell and 21-year-old Koivun were paired together in the third round, a grouping that was being referred to during TV coverage as the future of golf.Already so accomplished before they are even professionals — Russell hasn't even started college yet — both players understand why such expectations have been placed on them.“I mean, I’m trying not to think about that,” Koivun said. “Just taking it one day at a time and let my golf game do the talking, but those are great compliments.”Both players shot 4-over-par 74, dropping to 7 over for the tournament. Those scores weren't too bad on a difficult day at windy Shinnecock Hills for any golfer, let alone two that were playing on the weekend for the first time in a major championship. It's expected to be the first of many times for both.Koivun is about to turn pro after a dominant college career in which he led Auburn to two national championships in three seasons, becoming the first freshman since Justin Thomas in 2012 to win the Haskins Award, given to the nation's top collegiate golfer. He won the Southeastern Conference individual title all three years and has been the world's top-ranked amateur.Russell is now the next big thing. The left-hander is ranked No. 1 in the American Junior Golf Association and No. 7 among all amateurs in the world. He is headed to Florida State and will be a teammate with Charlie Woods, Tiger Woods' son, who carried Russell's bag when he earned his spot in the U.S. Open through a 36-hole qualifier.“He’s been been in the game for a while and he’s just such a good player,” Koivun said. The players didn't know each other well. Russell, who played with 54-year-old Padraig Harrington in the first two rounds, took advantage of a chance to be with someone closer to his age to get some advice about school.Like Koivun, he tried to downplay the “future of golf” hype around them.“I don’t know, that’s kind of crazy,” Russell said. "I mean, I think the main thing is just keep enjoying it, because if you’re not enjoying it, you may not have much of a future in it. So, I think we just keep doing what we’re doing, and see where it takes us.“Golf is a very difficult sport," he added. "One day you have it and the next day it’s gone, so I think you just have to kind of block it out and just keep doing what you’re doing, and hopefully one day that’s true.”Still, he could tell there was an interest in them, even though they were out early in the morning, long before anyone near the top of the leaderboard.“At the beginning, we had some good crowds out there,” Russell said. “I think if we might have played a little better, they might have stuck around a little longer, but it was cool.”Koivun and Russell were two of the five amateurs who made the cut, a group that was led by 21-year-old Ryder Cowan. Cowan, who will be a senior at Oklahoma, was tied for 11th after 36 holes. So perhaps the future of golf goes beyond Koivun and Russell.“Yeah, I mean, amateur golf is in a great spot right now,” Koivun said. “The college kids are definitely showing off, showing off how good they are, and for five of us to make it through, it’s quite impressive.”___AP golf: https://apnews.com/hub/golf

It's reductive to say "the Fever would have won without Clark." The Dream is one of the best and most complete teams in the WNBA; the Fever to date has looked a cut below them. But Saturday's loss will do nothing to quell continued big-picture debates about Clark, and specifically the trade-off between her explosive offensive ability and lacking defensive skill. In addition, Clark's offensive impact will continue to have a defined ceiling until she overcomes her turnover problems. With seven more against the swarming Dream defense on Saturday, Clark now has accrued a league-worst 72 turnovers in 15 games. That puts Clark on pace for 206 turnovers, which would make her the first player in WNBA history to have two seasons with 200 or move turnovers in their career.Caitlin Clark in 1Q:13 PTS0 TO+7 ratingCaitlin Clark rest of game:13 PTS7 TO-26 ratingFever blow 11-point lead, allow Dream franchise-record 113 points in loss. pic.twitter.com/j5leJLpqOZ— Underdog WNBA (@UnderdogWNBA) June 20, 2026More WNBA news:Wings' Azzi Fudd reveals Stephen Curry's role in Project B decisionCaitlin Clark's defense remains a topic of conversation after Fever's win streak endsAngel Reese links up with Latto after Dream win, and fans loved every second of itCaitlin Clark and Angel Reese's latest on-court exchange quickly grabs attention during Fever-Dream matchup

Staveley & Ghodoussi eye stunning West Ham takeover after Newcastle exit
Staveley & Ghodoussi eye stunning West Ham takeover after Newcastle exitFormer Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are exploring a takeover of West Ham United as the football investors weigh up a return to club ownership, per the Daily Mail. The couple, through their investment vehicle PCP Capital Partners, has opened exploratory discussions over a possible deal involving the Hammers following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.Staveley and Ghodoussi have been assessing opportunities across English football since leaving Newcastle, with Tottenham Hotspur also among the clubs to have featured in preliminary conversations. However, West Ham have now emerged as a serious option as they look to identify a project with long-term growth potential.Earlier this week, Staveley hinted at the type of challenge she is seeking, explaining that she and her husband are motivated by the prospect of revitalising underperforming clubs with untapped potential.Staveley and Ghodoussi played a central role in orchestrating Newcastle’s Saudi-backed takeover in 2021, bringing together the Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers to complete the acquisition.Their arrival transformed the club’s fortunes, helping lay the foundations for Champions League qualification within two seasons before Newcastle ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy by lifting the Carabao Cup.The Reuben brothers are not involved in the discussions surrounding West Ham.The Championship club’s ownership remains split between majority shareholder David Sullivan, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky and the Gold Family Trust.Sullivan recently stepped down as joint-chairman and director ahead of allegations concerning his personal life being published. While no agreement is close, Staveley and Ghodoussi’s interest represents another significant development in what could become one of English football’s most closely watched ownership stories this summer.West Ham desperately need fresh inspiration and direction from the hierarchy following two poor seasons that ultimately culminated in relegation to the Championship.

Shubman Gill breaks silence on Rohit Sharma's ODI future: 'It is a good kind of headache'
TimesofIndia.com in Chennai: With Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring his second century in the last three ODIs, the pressure is mounting on the selectors to decide the future of veteran Rohit Sharma. Although the 39-year-old survived a jittery start in the third ODI, he went on to score an eye-catching 79 and put on 170 runs for the opening wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal.Rohit, who got a reprieve early in his innings, took Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan to the cleaners before getting dismissed. In the three-match series, his scores are 16, 48 and 79. But are those knocks enough for him to secure his place for the upcoming England tour? And if he does, where does that leave the 24-year-old youngster, who, despite his stop-start ODI career, has been in rollicking form and has tried to maximise every opportunity he has got?"It is a good kind of headache to have when all your players are performing," captain Shubman Gill told reporters when he was asked about India's opening combination for the upcoming England tour."The squad will be announced either tomorrow or in the next couple of days, so we will look at the squad and then put out the best XI in England."When asked where Jaiswal stands if everyone is fit, Gill said: "We will have to see where everyone's fitness stands. If everyone is fit, as I said, we will formulate the best possible XI based on that."— BCCI (@BCCI) However, the skipper had special praise for Jaiswal and called it "unfortunate" that he has not been getting a long rope in ODIs."We all know he's a phenomenal player. It's not easy for any player because, when everyone is available, he's unfortunately the one who sometimes misses out," said Gill."Since Virat bhai wasn't available in this series, he got the opportunity to play a couple of games, and today he played really well. Hopefully, he'll continue this form and keep grabbing the opportunities he gets."— BCCI (@BCCI) "I think a lot of the boxes are ticked," he told broadcasters at the post-match presentation."We spoke about keeping the intensity in the middle overs, and one of the things we also discussed was how we can keep creating opportunities in the middle overs as a bowling unit and, as a batting unit, how we can keep pushing for extra runs in the middle overs."Going to England, the conditions will be a little more similar to what we get in South Africa. Not quite the same, but still close. So the kind of combination that we would be looking to play there, hopefully with all the players fit and ready, should make it another great series for us," he said.

Liverpool want deal for exceptional talent after Barcelona bid knocked back
Liverpool want deal for exceptional talent after Barcelona bid knocked backLiverpool are making a habit of signing the best young centre-back talents around. Last summer Giovanni Leoni - now 19 - signed for the Reds for around £26m from Parma. In January a deal for Mor Talla Ndiaye was tied up with the teenage defender arriving from FC Amitie.Deals were also put in place for two more young centre-backs in Jeremy Jacquet and Ifeanyi Ndukwe - who will both arrive once the transfer window opens. But Reds recruiters won’t stop there.Liverpool looking at Socceroo Lucas HerringtonThe club are now reported to be scouting an outstanding young Australian in the shape of Lucas Herrington. The Socceroo has been the subject of a recent bid from Barcelona - which has been knocked back by his MLS club Colorado Rapids.Herrington is expected to fetch more than the $7.7m the Rapids raked in when selling Moise Bombito to Nice last year when he eventually goes according to a report in the Athletic.Colorado Rapids knock back Barca bid for Herrington“Barcelona has already had an opening bid rejected by Colorado for Herrington,” the report reads. And that could potentially open the door for Liverpool to sign the 18-year-old - who is currently with his national team at the FIFA World Cup.“Liverpool sent scouts this season,” the report discloses.Lucas Herrington: Situation summaryLucas Herrington is an 18-year-old Australian centre-back, standing around 1.92m, currently established as a first-choice starter for Colorado Rapids in MLS and already capped by the Socceroos after debuting in March 2026.A Brisbane native and Brisbane Roar academy product, he profiles as a modern, right-footed central defender: dominant aerially, physically imposing, but also composed in possession and comfortable playing out from the back.He joined Colorado in 2026 and has since played every minute in the heart of their defence, quickly becoming one of MLS’s standout young centre-backs.Contractually, he is tied down on a deal running to the end of 2029 with a club option for 2030, leaving the Rapids in a position of strength and underpinning reports that they would like to keep him for at least two full seasons to maximise his value.European interest is already intense. Barcelona have had an offer rejected, while Everton and West Ham are among the Premier League clubs tracking him, and there is additional interest from across Europe.Colorado are understood to be looking towards the €15–20m bracket in the near term, with some estimates placing his upside valuation higher, so a medium-term move to a development-focused European club – with Barcelona currently at the front of the queue – looks the most plausible next step if and when MLS can no longer match his trajectory.

France's Saliba says playing through the pain at World Cup
William Saliba played through the pain to help France to a winning start in Group I against Senegal (FRANCK FIFE)France centre-half William Saliba said Saturday he has been "gritting his teeth" and playing through the pain at the World Cup after suffering from a back problem for the past few months. The defender was a key figure in helping his club Arsenal secure their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, but told reporters that he is not operating at "100 percent" in North America as he bids to help France win a third World Cup."I've had some minor niggles for several months. I've been gritting my teeth because there was the Champions League and the Premier League. But the coaching staff are handling it very well," Saliba said at a press conference ahead of his country's upcoming Group I match against Iraq."The World Cup comes round only once every four years, so you've got to grit your teeth.""I'm not at 100 percent, but there are plenty of players who aren't at 100 percent either -- you can't make excuses," he added.Saliba has been following a personalised training programme since the France squad met up for the World Cup but still managed to put in a strong showing in the 1998 and 2018 champions' opening group-stage win against Senegal on Tuesday.Les Bleus take on Iraq on Monday in Philadelphia, where they can ensure progression to the knockout stages with a victory, before taking on Norway four days later.kn/hpa/nf/jc

A school fired an intersex teacher because a parent thought he was trans. Now he’s fighting back.
A teacher hired by a Florida school was forced by the superintendent to either resign or be fired (with no reason given) after only three weeks. Now, Shepherd Scalf is filing a discrimination complaint with the ACLU, alleging that the district thought he was trans because he’s intersex. “Receiving this ultimatum was confusing and overwhelming. Everything had been going so well — I couldn’t understand why this was happening,” said Shepard Scalf in a statement. “The start of a school year is always brimming with promise and excitement, and I was looking forward to continuing my teaching career at Patriot Oaks until I was cornered into resigning. It became clear to me that being fired had nothing to do with my qualifications or teaching — it was about who I am.” Related The Trump-nominated EEOC head wants to end diversity programs. One organization is fighting back. Intersex as a term covers many different ways that physical sex traits and reproductive anatomy can develop in a body that do not fit the traditional binary male and female understandings some people have. Scalf is an intersex man with XY chromosomes and has Swyer’s Syndrome. People with Swyers may sometimes be born with external genitalia that appear female at birth and are therefore assigned female at birth. While some intersex people identify as trans, the majority do not. Scalf was hired by Patriot Oaks Academy in Florida to teach Language Arts for the school year of 2025-26. However, on August 29, just three weeks into the school year, he was summoned to an “emergency meeting” with the principal. There, he was told to read a letter from Superintendent Dr. Brennan Asplen. Never Miss a Beat Subscribe to our newsletter to stay ahead of the latest LGBTQ+ political news and insights. Subscribe to our Newsletter today The letter said that as he was in his first year and on probationary status, he was able to be dismissed without cause. It went on to make it clear that Scalf could either resign his position or be terminated. On the recommendation of his union representative, Scalf resigned as it would be easier to get another job that way than if he had a termination on his record. The letter did not provide any reason for his dismissal. According to the complaint filed by the ACLU on Scalf’s behalf with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), during that meeting the school principal said that he “met every expectation” set for him and described his performance as “nothing less than exemplary.” This, the complaint argues, makes it clear that there was no “merits-based justification for firing” him. While his new hire paperwork included his gender-assigned at birth, it was clear that the school understood that he was a man, going as far as to give him a placard that read “Mr. Scalf.” His gender identity nor his genetics were ever discussed with students or school district officials. According to the complaint, Scalf believes that those who chose to fire him did not know that he was intersex, but saw that his gender identity did not match his gender assigned at birth and assumed that he was trans. The complaint also makes it clear that Scalf has evidence that the decision to fire him came from a perception that he was trans. It notes, “Following Mr. Scalf’s resignation, he received communications providing evidence that the termination followed complaints from a parent about the perception that Mr. Scalf is transgender.” Through the complaint, Scalf seeks reinstatement, noting that he is a dedicated teacher. The complaint says that the St. Johns County School District violated Scalf’s Title VII rights, which were established in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Supreme Court set precedent in 2020 with its decision in the case of Bostock v. Clayton County. In that case, the court ruled that Title VII includes protections against discrimination on the basis of gender identity, as it is impossible to discriminate against trans or queer people without taking into account their sex assigned at birth. While that should make this case a simple matter, recent moves by the EEOC might complicate the matter. Earlier this year, the EEOC ruled against a trans person who filed a complaint about being denied access to the appropriate restrooms in a federal building. In their decision, they upheld that “Title VII permits a federal agency employer to maintain single-sex bathrooms and similar intimate spaces,” and “permits a federal agency employer to exclude employees, including trans-identifying employees, from opposite-sex facilities.” There is also a pending complaint from the Legal Accountability Center against the current chair of the EEOC, Andrea Lucas, alleging that she told investigators not to look into complaints about anti-LGBTQ+ behavior and sent letters to law firms requesting DEI information in a move designed to intimidate them into ceasing and DEI programs. The complaint suggests that the EEOC itself is in violation of Title VII. While intersex identities are often distinct from trans ones, for a long time, intersex people have been seen as something to “fix,” with doctors pressuring families to allow irreversible surgeries on intersex infants. While the EEOC has made its stance on trans people painfully clear, it is less clear how they may handle this case. It's the country's first time in the tournament in 28 years. Nygren left disappointed as Sweden thrashed by Dutch
Benjamin Nygren is left frustrated by Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries [Getty Images]Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren thought he had combined with former Parkhead centre-half Gustaf Lagerbielke to bring Sweden back into their World Cup group game against the Netherlands only to be thwarted by the offside flag in a 5-1 thrashing in Houston. The Dutch were ahead thanks to two goals from Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey when Nygren floated in a free-kick for Lagerbielke, now with Braga, to head home just before half-time.But it was ruled out and Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo scored twice after the break before substitute Anthony Elanga, the Newcastle United winger, pulled one back for the Swedes shortly after Nygren was substituted.West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville restored the four-goal advantage as Sweden fell short of the point that would have probably been enough to secure a place in the knock-out stage. The Swedes had opened by thrashing Tunisia by the same scoreline and racked up 20 attempts on goal, nine of them on target, against the Dutch. However, head coach Graham Potter said they would learn from the experience as they prepare for their final Group F game against Japan.

Sunderland Are Set To Rival Fulham For This Serie A Defender: Should Le Bris Snap Him Up?
Sunderland Are Set To Rival Fulham For This Serie A Defender: Should Le Bris Snap Him Up?In a recent report, ParmaLive claimed that Sunderland are set to rival Fulham for Parma defender Mariano Troilo. It has been stated that the Black Cats are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Argentine centre-back in this transfer period.Troilo’s Impressive Form In Serie AThe 22-year-old managed to prove his worth at times with his performances at the heart of Troilo’s defence in the previous campaign. Troilo made 23 appearances for the Italian club last season, scoring one goal across all fronts. The Brazilian talent is currently one of the most gifted young centre-backs in Serie A. Thus, it is no wonder that the Black Cats are hoping to land him this off-season.His current contract at Parma will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to sign him later this year.PARMA, ITALY – APRIL 12: Rasmus Hojlund of Napoli SSC competes for the ball with Mariano Troilo of Parma Calcio during the Serie A match between Parma Calcio 1913 and SSC Napoli at Stadio Ennio Tardini on April 12, 2026 in Parma, Italy. (Photo by Emmanuele Ciancaglini/Getty Images)Will Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Snap Troilo Up This Summer?Troilo is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.Standing at 1.94m, the Argentine sensation can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, it remains to be seen whether he can adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League if Sunderland manage to get a deal over the line for him in this summer transfer window. We can expect Troilo to add more bite and steel to Regis Le Bris’ defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the Stadium of Light in the coming seasons. At 22, Troilo has got a promising future ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Black Cats to consider this summer. He will also help the Wearside club compete across all fronts in the future. Hence, Le Bris would be wise to go all out to snap him up before the end of this transfer period.

Brazil 🇧🇷 can count on Raphinha in possible 2026 last 16; here's whyThis Saturday (20), the CBF released new information about Raphinha’s medical situation after he left the match against Haiti at the end of the first half with muscle pain.In the statement, the federation confirmed a muscle injury in the back of his right thigh, but did not give a timetable for his return. However, according to the outlet ge, the Brazil national team’s coaching staff is counting on Raphinha for a possible round of 16 match. Also according to reporting by Bruno Cassucci and Cahê Mota, the imaging exam did not show “anything too serious,” but the national team’s medical department wants to monitor the injury’s progress over the next few days. This caution is due to the fact that, since the injury is recent, edema and swelling could prevent a more accurate diagnosis.Brazil will return to the field next Wednesday (24), when they face Scotland in Miami, United States, at 7 p.m. (Brasília time).Depending on Brazil’s standing in Group C, the round of 32 would be played on June 29 or 30.And the round of 16 would take place on July 4 or 5. In other words, Raphinha would have about two weeks to recover in order to take the field for Brazil in the round of 16. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence. U.S. shuts out Australia to reach the knockout round
SEATTLE — Mauricio Pochettino’s plan to take the long view to the United States men’s national team’s run at the 2026 World Cup proved wise on Friday. The U.S. coach kept star Christian Pulisic on the bench against Australia, and his side responded with a 2-0 win over the Socceroos at Seattle Stadium to secure a spot in the knockout round. With Pulisic recovering from a calf injury sustained in the opening win over Paraguay, Pochettino opted to start Folarin Balogun and Ricardo Pepi up front. The pair kept constant pressure on Australia, which struggled against the Americans’ speed despite playing five defenders. It was Balogun who forced the issue with a run down the left wing in the 11th minute. His pass into the six-yard box was intended for Pepi but never reached its target. That’s because Swansea City defender Cameron Burgess got in between, only to have the ball deflect off him and past goalkeeper Patrick Beach.“(Pochettino has) always given us different ideas to attack. So, to play with Pepi today wasn’t a shock,” said Balogun, who added that he did not know Pulisic’s status until before the match. “It wasn’t like a plan B before CP was out. It didn’t feel like that to me.“It just felt like another solution to win the game.”It was the second own goal the Americans have benefited from in as many matches and set the tone for the remainder of the day. The U.S. added a second goal when defender Alex Freeman headed a ball past Beach. Initially ruled offsides, the call was overturned by VAR.The victory gave the Americans (2-0-0) six points in Group D, assuring the U.S. of advancing no matter what happens in their final group game. Australia (1-1-0) remains in contention to advance with its final group game coming Thursday against Paraguay.Turkey lost to Paraguay later in the day, helping the Americans clinch the top spot in the group. The U.S. faces Turkey on Thursday.Despite Pulisic being seen at team training on Wednesday, Pochettino said after the game that it was “impossible” for him to play Friday. While saying earlier in the week that Pulisic would face Turkey if he wasn’t able to play against Australia, after the match he offered only that he hopes Pulisic can “help the team as soon as possible.”For Balogun, Friday continued a torrid start to the World Cup, which began with two goals against Paraguay. He also helped force an own goal in that game, making the United States the first team in World Cup history to benefit from own goals in consecutive games.Freeman’s third international goal came just minutes after he and Australian midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler were attended to following a head collision. The son of former NFL wide receiver Antonio Freeman, who once scored a touchdown in the same stadium, Alex Freeman admitted he was anxious while waiting for the VAR.“When it was a goal, I looked back and I saw all my teammates running at me,” Freeman said. “I was like, ‘Oh Lord, now they’re running.’ And then, I ended up running and celebrating with them, and I think it just made me very emotional in the moment.”Both teams managed only a pair of shots on goal. The Aussies’ first came in the opening minute of play, when Mohamed Toure’s attempt was easily saved by goaltender Matt Freese. The Americans would dominate the remainder of the half.Australian coach Tony Popovic attempted to switch the flow with a trio of substitutions coming out of halftime. That included removing Toure and playing Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe up top. While the Aussies did apply more pressure on Freese in the second half and created multiple frantic moments in front of the goal, they were unable to find the back of the net.The U.S. finished with a clear edge in possession at 56%, according to FIFA, while Australia was credited with 33%, and the remainder was contested. It was also a physical match, with U.S. midfielder Tyler Adams the target of multiple hard tackles in the first half.“It was a physical game. I don’t think it was anything different than what we expected,” Adams said. “Fouled a couple times, fouled other people a couple times. It’s the nature of the game.“I think you need to play into it a little bit and understand what the game requires, and that’s what it required today.”The tone was set early for a match that saw 28 combined fouls and seven yellow cards.“Very physical, a lot of challenges,” Balogun said. “I think the referee did his best to try and contain it, but this is a World Cup. So it’s expected for the passion to sometimes spill over. But I think we kept our cool, and it was a really professional performance from us.”The U.S. has now won games in front of partisan crowds in Los Angeles and Seattle, and will return to L.A. to face Turkey. Friday’s game included a helicopter flyover and a vibrant crowd in the home of MLS’ Seattle Sounders, whose fans are known to stand for the entirety of matches.“I’m just so happy they were able to come out and to be able to kind of have that atmosphere,” Freeman said. “And kind of sing those songs that calm and make us, you know, kind of accept the fact that we’re here and we have such an amazing thing to do. And now we have more stuff to do.”And whether that means the Turkey game is a battle for the top of Group D or if the U.S. have already clinched that honor, work remains to be done ahead of the knockout round.“We kind of need to put a 24-hour rule on things,” Adams said. “Enjoy the moment. Enjoy your time with the families. Disconnect a little bit. And then when it’s time to work, we got to go back to work.“Another important game against Turkey. And I feel like in my head, it’s like, ‘Do the job.’ Focus on the next one until you’re out of games to play, because then you did something right.”

Marmoush aims to emerge from Salah's shadow as Egypt's hero
Omar Marmoush is aiming to fire Egypt to a first World Cup win (ALEX GRIMM)Omar Marmoush once rejected the chance to play for Canada, but in Vancouver on Sunday will aim to become a national hero back home in Egypt by making World Cup history. The Pharaohs are powerhouses of African football with a record seven continental titles but are yet to win a match in eight games at the World Cup.A meeting with New Zealand, ranked 56 places below Egypt in the FIFA rankings, offers a golden chance for an elusive World Cup victory and with it progress beyond the group stages for the first time. For Marmoush it is also an opportunity to make his mark on the global stage.Overshadowed by Mohamed Salah's superstar status in the national team, Marmoush has also had to play second fiddle at club level to Erling Haaland since joining Manchester City 17 months ago."It’s difficult but at the same time it makes you better, knowing that when you’re on the pitch you have to give your best. You have to perform because the next person is there, waiting to take your spot," Marmoush said in a recent interview with GQ Middle East."I trained hard to get here, you know? My whole career led up to this point – to compete and play with the best players in the world, trying to win titles."The Cairo native left his club, Wadi Degla, and his homeland at the age of 18 to make his career in Europe with German club Wolfsburg. After spells on loan at St. Pauli and Stuttgart, he rose to prominence as a Bundesliga star at Eintracht Frankfurt and earned a 70-million-euro ($80 million) move to City.During those early years in Germany, his progress caught the attention of the Canadian Soccer Association.Marmoush's parents obtained Canadian citizenship after working there prior to his birth."The Canadian national team contacted me... the head coach called me personally," he told Egyptian talk show Sahibat Al Saada."But when I received the call, my decision was already made: my national team is Egypt; I put Egypt above everything else." - 'Dream big' -He may not yet enjoy the status of Salah, but Marmoush is vital to Egypt's prospects of World Cup progress. His development has eased some of the goalscoring burden on Salah, who at 34 had a disappointing final season at Liverpool after a glittering nine-year spell."It’s a team that defends and counters, featuring two fantastic players in Salah and Marmoush -- both of whom are incredibly fast," said Belgium coach Rudi Garcia after a 1-1 draw in their Group G opener. On paper, Belgium provided Egypt's toughest test of the group stages.New Zealand have also never won a World Cup match, while their final group opponents Iran have had to contend with a series of logistical and emotional distractions as a result of the conflict between co-hosts the United States and the Islamic Republic.Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation and so long an underachiever on the global stage, craves a World Cup win to celebrate."I think the World Cup is a football moment where you can dream to go as far as possible," added Marmoush."We always dream big. It’s great that we have so many MENA (Middle East and North African) teams at the tournament this year, but it’s not just about numbers."We want to go there and perform. Here we are playing on the biggest stage in world football, let’s show them what we've got!"kca/gj

Gerrit Cole’s start pushed back, Elmer Rodríguez to pitch Sunday with Jake Bird demoted
Elmer Rodriguez of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders enters the field before a Minor League Baseball game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, United States, on May 23, 2026. (Photo by Dan Squicciarini/NurPhoto via Getty Images) | NurPhoto via Getty Images We don’t get an ace-off after all. With the Yankees trying to manage a pitching rotation that’s both played at its highest level and seen its share of injuries, Gerrit Cole will be pushed back a day and make his start with an additional day of rest on Monday in Detroit. The club is trying to avoid three straight turns the the rotation on five days’ rest, especially with a careful eye on Cole’s surgically repaired elbow. Rookie Elmer Rodríguez will be called upon to make his third start of the season in the finale with the Reds tomorrow.ERC looked every bit the part of a rookie starter during his two previous outings in May, in particular demonstrating a lack of control that needs to be his primary focus in order to be a full timer in the big leagues. A 14.1-percent walk rate is a jump from his already-high 11-percent mark with Triple-A Scranton. Getting the ball in the strike zone will be his task against the Reds.Boone said Elmer Rodriguez will start Sunday. Desire is to give each of the starters an extra day so the rotation doesn’t go three straight turns on five days rest. Cole will start Monday in Detroit. Jake Bird optioned as the Rodriguez move— Erik Boland (@eboland11) June 20, 2026The corresponding move for Rodríguez is that the ever-scuffling Jake Bird goes down to Scranton, and frankly that just means that Aaron Boone will no longer be tempted to put him into a game. It’s a win all around as far as I’m concerned. These kinds of moves are one of the perks of being a first-place team. Everyone in baseball is trying to figure out how to manage the health of their pitching staff, and the Yankees have a chance to inject an extra bit of rest into the group. Losing on Saturday makes things a little more stressful for young ERC, because you want to win series too, but giving a veteran a little extra time isn’t a bad idea in my book.

Pink boots are everywhere at the World Cup as the color becomes a soccer star
Gio Reyna scored an iconic goal to kick off the World Cup for the U.S. Vinícius Junior scored a dazzling one in Brazil's opener. Kylian Mbappé scored twice to become France's career goals leader. Harry Kane got two of his own to tie England's mark as he and his teammates try to bring the elusive trophy home. What do they all have in common? Pink, of course.Of all the colors of the rainbow at the World Cup taking place in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, pink is the star on soccer's biggest stage. Dozens of players are wearing pink boots that stand out against the green grass of the pitch after multiple shoe companies produced them ahead of this tournament with an eye on performance as well as visibility.“Athletes associate this color with confidence and standing out, and that resonates," Nike Director of Global Footwear Odinga Nimako said.Nimako pointed to Nike's silver, yellow and blue boots at the 1998 World Cup changing how people saw boots in the sport. Before that, black and white was the standard. This time, Nike, Adidas, Puma, Skechers and New Balance all came out with pink boots.Mbappé and Vinícius have the Nike swoosh on his feet, as does Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Norway's Erling Haaland. Reyna, England's Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, Canada's Jonathan David, Spain's Lamine Yamal and France's Ousmane Dembélé wear Adidas. Whenever Neymar Jr. plays for Brazil, he's expected to be in Puma pink like American Weston McKennie. U.S. teammate Timothy Weah is among those in New Balance. Kane and Sweden's Anthony Elanga are sporting Skechers at the World Cup.Skechers Director of Technical Performance Alex Bardini said the inspiration came from the company's headquarters in southern California.“The colorways reflect the breathtaking palette of an L.A. sunset: warm shades of pink and purple melting into white, with subtle tinges of orange,” Bardini said. From Los Angeles and Vancouver to Guadalajara, Houston, Miami and Boston, long before the World Cup is decided, pink has become a clear winner. When Sweden put up five on Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico, three came from players in pink boots: two by Yasin Ayari and another in the 84th minute by Mattias Svanberg.Pink itself does not make players perform any better, but shoe company executives consider it a mindset. Bardini said comfort and performance are at the core of what Skechers does, and Nimako said Nike wants players to feel more aerodynamic. “That feeling is holistic,” Nimako said. "It’s the engineering, yes, but it’s also how the entire product comes together. When an athlete puts on a Mercurial and it looks fast, feels locked in, and weighs next to nothing, that perception reinforces performance. Everything works together.”___AP World Cup: https://apnews.com/fifa-world-cup

Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron said he was excited to tackle a unique track that Cup drivers are commuting to with scooters.“The muck of the Cup series is just kind of grinding,” he said. 91 Chevrolet, which aims to bring stars from other series to NASCAR.Magnussen’s father, Jan, finished 12th at Sonoma Raceway in 2010.“I always loved NASCAR,” Kevin Magnussen said. “Some of it is feeling like you have a home, and the other part of it is truly feeling like the competition level is at the cusp of truly being great.”Odds and endsShane van Gisbergen is the overwhelming favorite over Trackhouse Racing teammate Connor Zilisch and points leader Tyler Reddick.“I feel like it disrespects my competition,” van Gisbergen said. “I know there’s probably 10 guys that can win on pure pace. In NASCAR, so much stuff can happen, so I don’t think it’s going to be easy.”At 3.4 miles, the 16-turn layout is the fifth-longest track in Cup Series history. The Daytona Beach, Florida, road course used from 1949-58 holds the record at 4.17 miles. … Christopher Bell, who still is recovering from a broken wrist in a Michigan International Speedway crash, will have Brent Crews on standby as a relief driver. … Addressing concerns from teams about wear, NASCAR added a set of tires for the Cup race.

Ex-Hyderabad captain Narsimha Rao to ring bell before India vs Ireland T20I on June 28
MUMBAI: Former India leg-spinner MV Narsimha Rao, who played four Tests in 1978-79 and later moved to Ireland, will ring the ceremonial bell just before the second T20I between India and Ireland at the Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast on June 28 (Sunday). Rao captained Hyderabad to just their second Ranji Trophy title victory against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy final in 1987-88. The development was confirmed to TOI by an official of Cricket Ireland.Popularly known in the cricketing circles as 'Bobjee,' Rao moved to Ireland 36 years ago (in 1988). Like former India opener Raman Lamba, he married an Irish woman and represented Ireland. The two-match T20I series between India and Ireland in Ireland could be historic as India's 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who received his maiden India call-up for India's T20I series in Ireland and England, could be making his highly-anticipated international debut in it. The series would also mark the India captaincy debut of Mumbai and Punjab Kings middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer. An allrounder, who bowled fastish leg breaks, Rao played 108 first-class matches, in which he took 245 wickets@28.05, besides scoring 4845 runs@40.71, with nine centuries, between 1971-72 and 1988-89. Bobjee made his Test debut at Eden Gardens against Kallicharran's West Indies at the Eden Gardens in 1978-79. He took three wickets (75.66), and scored 46 runs (9.20) in his short Test career.‘Bobjee’ was a pillar for the Hyderabad team for two decades and had one of the best allround performances in the Ranji Trophy - 4124 runs (47.40) and 218 wickets (24.20). Later, he played as a professional in Ireland.

Top 15 Kentucky sports moments of 2025-26: No. 6 Cam Miller's hustle
Our countdown of the top 15 Kentucky Wildcats moments from the 2025-26 year, and are nearing the top five. The No. 6 moment comes to us from the football field, and was a play that preserved a win over the Auburn Tigers for the first time since 2009.Kentucky entered the matchup with Auburn having lost four straight games, and the hopes for a bowl appearance were disappearing rapidly. The Tigers were also having a disappointing season, so both teams needed a victory. The Wildcats struck first, taking a 3-0 lead in the second quarter, but it would be 3-3 at the half. The first, and only, touchdown of the game came early in the second half on a Cutter Boley pass to Kendrick Law, giving Kentucky the lead once again. The game would end with a Kentucky interception, but the play of the day came shortly before that. With the Cats trying to run the clock down, Boley threw an ill-advised pass that was intercepted by Auburn. However, during the return, Wildcats receiver Cam Miller chased down the defender, and stripped him of the football, which was recovered by Kentucky. It was a pure hustle play by Miller, and showed that, despite a tough season, he had not given up. Those are the kinds of plays that inspire teammates, and it helped trigger a three-game winning streak that nearly got Kentucky bowl eligible.Previous MomentsNo. 15: Dowdell gets looseNo. 14: Clara Strack respondsNo. 13: Alex Ruiz beats WVUNo. 12: Hailey Nutter no-no x2No. 11: Basketball what might've beenNo. 10: Sebastian Conlon's big saveNo. 9: Garrison's block partyNo. 8: Jayce Tharnish's heroicsNo. 7: A Final Four comebackThis article originally appeared on UK Wildcats Wire: Kentucky Wildcats top 2025-26 moments: No. 6 Cam Miller's hustle

Trump tries to blame Reflecting Pool woes on vandalism, without offering substantiation

(AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein)2026-06-20T16:41:00Z WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Saturday announced that federal authorities had made “multiple arrests” of people he said were vandalizing the Reflecting Pool as he struggled to explain why the $14-million-plus rehabilitation project he launched for the nation’s 250th anniversary seemingly backfired.Trump said his predecessors had let the pool turn an algae-stained green and that he’d line it with “American flag blue” so it better reflected the Washington Monument. But after the new pool was unveiled, its blue tinge quickly became a familiar green. Workers treated it with chemicals to kill the algae, but then the painted blue lining on the bottom began to peel.On Friday night, Trump posted about the pool. Trump on Saturday followed up by saying Park Police “have arrested multiple individuals for vandalizing our Nations magnificent Reflecting Poll,” meaning Pool. He went on: “Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments. Years in jail!” Read More One man arrested was David Hearn, 67, of Bethesda, Maryland, who owned a company that made composite used to build watercraft. He said he stopped by the pool during his 64-mile bike ride Friday to see what was going on.Hearn, a former Olympic canoe racer, told The Associated Press that he reached into the pool because he wanted to examine the peeling new coating. He said he briefly touched a chunk that was still attached to the side of the pool, then let go shortly after a park worker told him to. But, Hearn said, he was then detained by National Guard troops and Park Police for five hours before being released Friday night.“I’m a curious citizen,” Hearn said in a telephone interview. “I reached down to see what it felt like. It was very rubbery.” The Washington Post first reported Hearn’s arrest, and he said he has a date to appear in court next month and is looking for legal help. Even if someone pulled ribbons of paint from the side of the pool, it would not explain the clouds of algae in green water and swaths of loose blue paint detached from the bottom.Trump insisted something nefarious has been going on at the scene. “No different than the chemicals that were used on the National Mall, they used something similar in the Reflecting Pool to try to destroy and demean our beautiful work,” he posted Friday evening.
